Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans - Xavier Restrepo GOES CRAZY at Tennessee Titans Mandatory Mini-Camp & PERFECT PRACTICE to End Summer
Episode Date: June 17, 2026The Tennessee Titans capped off mandatory mini-camp on Wednesday and Xavier Restrepo was the star of the show. Multiple catches on the day, including a jaw-dropping one-handed catch, made him a stando...ut in a continued pattern for the second-year receiver. The man ahead of Restrepo in the slot, Wan'Dale Robinson, also had a busy day with multiple catches. It is no surprise that these two slot targets are making noise. However, the defense also made their plays on the day from multiple sacks to wins in coverage, that side gets paid too and they showed it. This comes with two starting safeties missing. Finally, we did get an update on a trio of players dealing with injuries and they are names you do not want to hear. Jeffery Simmons, JC Latham & Femi Oladejo are all banged up, but the consequences aren't equal. Xavier Restrepo has been bowling out this summer,
and he had another big day to end Tennessee Titans mandatory minicamp.
I'll break down everything you need to know from practice on today's edition of Locked on Titans.

I'm going to break down everything you need to know
from the Tennessee Titans final practice before summer break.
This was the last day of mandatory minicamp
and what a great practice setting we got for the final day.
The Tennessee Titans had a scrimmage on Wednesday.
A lot to dive into.
We got some injury updates that are a bit unfortunate to hear.
It was a perfect practice to finish with because the offense and the defense had their moments.
But we got to start with the stars of the day.
And it's two wide receivers, Wondale Robinson and Xavier Restrepo.
and they have a common theme between the two wide receivers
that we'll talk about as well.
But Xavier Restrepo just continues to make plays.
And in this practice, he had one of the best plays of the entire all season.
I think I saw someone call it what they thought was the best play of all season practices so far.
A one-handed O'Dell Beckham-like catch by Xavier Restrepo from Mitch Trubisky
that got the Titans down by the goal line.
I think Tehran Davenport called it a touchdown, whether it was downshore or whether it was a touchdown.
It was an incredible catch from Xavier Restrepo.
I would imagine the Tennessee Titans media team is going to make sure that they get that out on the internet as soon as possible.
But it just continues Xavier Restrepo making a monster impact this all season.
He had a nasty route according to TD against one of the cornerbacks.
He caught a deep crosser from Mitch Trubisky on the day as.
well that goes into yesterday when he had the 20-yard touchdown catch from Will Levis.
Jim Wyatt saying that he had the most catches of any wide receiver in OTAs
through the three weeks of OTAs that we had before mandatory minicamp this week.
It's just been a consistent theme throughout the entire all season that Xavier Restrepo is doing well.
And again, I've admitted I was worried about Restrepo when he was in that undrafted free agent
rookie mini camp. It wasn't a great sign in my opinion.
but he has taken the challenge. Clearly, he's stepped up.
He looks athletic out there when you see him moving around on some of the videos.
He's looked athletic in practice, according to the reports.
And he continues to produce and make plays.
And I think in this offense, and this is kind of the through line here too,
as we talk about Wondale Robinson, who also had a fantastic day.
And I think there's an obvious reason why both of these guys are playing in the slot.
They are slot-wide receivers.
And I think it's interesting to hear that Xavier Restrepo is the number two slot-wide receiver right now.
All of his catches or the majority of his catches are coming from Trubiski.
He had a big-time catch from Cam Ward.
I believe it was last week.
A strike zone period might have been a 27-yard corner route from Cam Ward.
So not only is Xavier Restrepo making an impact in practice,
not only is he standing out, not only is he running good routes,
making plays catching the football, but he's doing it for different quarterbacks.
he's doing it with the second string, he's doing it with the first string,
which shows an improvement in pecking order for Xavier Restrepo.
So when we talk about Xavier Restrepo potentially making this roster,
yeah, it's going to be difficult.
And Robert Sale even said that it's going to be an absolute battle
for the final wide receiver spots.
You have Bryce Oliver, who's a bigger, more outside receiver,
who's better on special teams,
KJ Osborne, who's a veteran who's playing on the outside right now,
but certainly has some inside outside versatility.
you have a guy like Xavier Restrepo in that mix.
Who's trying to break through.
It's going to be very difficult.
It is going to be very difficult for all those guys to make it.
But if Restrepo is having this kind of impact, again, in this offense,
he just has the ability to showcase his skill set
much more than the Brian Callahan offense
with the reliance on option routes
and a true traditional slot-wide receiver in this offense
and the way that it's designed and the routes
that you're expected to run from the slot-wide receiver position.
I think it makes it totally different for Xavier Restrepo from last year,
and it gives them a lot better opportunity.
And similarly, Wondale Robinson.
Wondale Robinson is standing out in this practice.
And I think it's no surprise that in a practice that is more like a scrimmage,
in a practice that's more like regular football,
call it periods, move the ball periods,
where you're putting the ball down,
you're calling a play, and you're going after.
it's not as scripted as other versions of practice.
I think it's no surprise that in a more game-like practice,
Wondale Robinson and Xavier Restrepo are standing out
because that safety blanket in the slot, the quick throws underneath.
Wondale Robinson had one intermediate over the middle from Cam Ward
in between multiple defenders.
He had a couple of quick catches on an early segment of practice.
had three straight catches from Cam Ward at one point in time during practice.
I think you'd go through the reports.
You're looking at six or seven, maybe eight catches for Wondale Robinson on this day.
And again, the offense is designed for the slot position for that kind of player
to be able to make an impact.
At some point in time, we're going to talk about what Brian Daible said about option routes
before Tuesday's practice.
There's so much content right now with all of the interviews,
all of the practices,
We're focusing on the practice information.
We're going to go back through some of these interviews
over the next days, weeks,
as we get the summer break here and talk about what these coaches had to say
because they had a lot to say.
And Brian Dable really went deep on option routes.
And I think, think about how helpful a choice route
or an option route could be.
And if you don't know what that is,
it's where the wide receiver basically can change their route
based on the coverage.
So think, if you're going to run a slant route,
a couple of steps forward and then break inside,
that's going to be very difficult to do if the cornerback has inside leverage.
If the cornerback is sitting on your inside shoulder,
it's going to be hard to run an inside route,
whether that's an in route, a slant route, anything like that.
Similarly, if the cornerback is on your outside shoulder
and you're trying to run an out route or a deep comeback,
they're going to be in perfect position to stop you.
An option route or a choice route,
which is something that I learned a lot about when Tom Brady was cooking with the Patriots,
because they had with Wes Welker.
They could basically decide, based on what the defense shows you in the middle of the play,
you could change your route.
So if you're running a slant route, but the defender is on your inside shoulder,
you're not going to be able to get on the inside.
You can change it to an out route.
If they're backed up off of you, you could do a quick little sit-down route.
If they're too close to you, you can beat them with a release at the line of scrimmage
and get vertical.
If they're sitting on the outside, you can run a slant.
but the quarterback and the wide receiver have to be on the same page for that to happen.
And that's why, again, it's no surprise that you're seeing Wondell Robinson get so many targets
from Cam Ward right now because now they're starting to get on the same page.
And we're going to talk about Cam Ward and his performance here in just a second.
But again, no surprise.
That's the theme of the episode.
It's no shock to me that Wondell Robinson and Xavier Restrepo are safety blankets for their
quarterbacks because the offense is literally designed for those guys to read the defense
and get open based on what they're showing. In a previous offense, if there's a slant
called and there's inside leverage by a cornerback, too bad, you've got to find a way to win.
But now with certain routes in certain situations, you can play off of that.
And when you can have your answer in the middle of the play to what the defense is doing,
there's no way that the defense can ever stop you because you're reacting to what the defense does.
And this is why I've been saying for weeks now, and this is all tied together.
I've been saying that this offense is harder to learn, but easier to deploy.
So it's going to take more work on the back end.
There's going to be more struggle.
There's going to be more issues early because it's so hard to get on the same page.
Read the defense the same.
See it the same way.
Speak the same language early on when everything's new.
but once it clicks, once it happens, once you are on the same page, once you are seeing it the same way,
once you've repped it enough and that connection becomes boom, confirmed and locked in,
then it becomes easy.
Then you're cutting the defense up because you got them on their heels.
No matter what they do, you have the adjustment figured out.
It becomes simpler to beat the defense, especially against man coverage, tight press man coverage.
which the Titans have struggled with for years.
And what player is going to be able to take advantage of that reality most?
The quickest, agile, shiftiest guys,
Xavier Estrepa, Wondell Robinson, in the slot.
So whether it be the progress of the offense and the option routes
and being on the same page and gaining chemistry,
whether it be the natural opportunities within the offense
that the slot-wide receiver position offers because of those option routes,
it's no surprise that these are the two dudes who showed up in a scrimmage,
game-like setting for the Tennessee Titans.
And this is how Wondale Robinson could get hundreds of targets every year.
Because in this offense, it is designed for those guys to be,
and that's how they can keep the chains moving,
stay on schedule as an offense, not have negative plays,
quick three, four-yard dump-off to the slot on first down to give us a second and manageable,
rather than running a run play into the teeth and the defense for negative one yard
and being in second and 11, second, and 10 every single drive like the Titans have been
last year in the last couple years.
That's how you solved that problem.
So very excited about the progression of the offense and how it's exemplified by the slot-wide
receiver position and how Xavier Restrepo in particular,
but of course, Wondale Robinson even more are taking advantage of those opportunities
that are created within this offense.
So all good news for me.
To me, not only am I excited about Restrepo and Wondale Robinson,
who can be key contributors,
but I'm excited about what this means for the health of the offense overall.
With that in mind, though, let's talk about the offense,
particularly Cam Ward, who had another good day, if not spectacular day,
another good day, but the defense, the defense got their licks in there as well.
And I think, again, that is the sign of a healthy football team.

Great organizations win because operations matter.
The Tennessee Titans know that.
They've been trying to upgrade their operations.
They've been trying to upgrade their process.
I know I'm constantly trying to do that as well.

you need to know from Tennessee Titans
mandatory mini-camp. The Titans are going to have
a family barbecue on
Thursday for their final day of mandatory
mini-camp. So this was the last practice
that we're going to get to see until
training camp, and boy, it was a good one.
Both sides of the ball got their licks in. Both
sides of the ball had some success. And again, I think that
is a good sign of a healthy team.
Before we dive into the rest,
of practice.

With that being said, though, Cam Ward 19 for 27, no touchdowns, no interceptions.
Pretty good day for the quarterback overall, according to all reports out there.
I think it was Terry McCormick that had the 19 for 27 stat line.
But pretty much everybody across the board said Cam Ward had a good day, played good football,
and that's the progress that we wanted to see.
We just wanted to see Cam Ward take steps forward.
We just wanted to see Cam Ward make some progress.
We talked about how healthy the offense can be when the slot-wide receiver is getting opportunities, being on the same page,
understanding the depth, the timing, how the offense works.
I think that's a great sign.
Cam Ward not only had completions to his slot-wide receiver, Wondale Robinson.
He had an out route to Cornell Tate.
He got Daniel Bellinger involved in a ton.
I saw a lot of hype about Daniel Bellinger and how he's being used in the offense.
Again, no touchdowns on the day, but Cam Ward did lead to points every single
drive. I think it was Buck Rising who had four different drives on the day for Cam Ward, all of them
leading to field goals. You'd love to see a touchdown in there for certain a couple of touchdowns
would be great, but it wasn't Cam Ward's fault necessarily that they didn't. There were some
drops out there. There were some pass breakups from the Tennessee Titan secondary. And again,
I think that's the sign of a healthy offense. It shouldn't be dominated by the offense.
Shouldn't be dominated by the defense. There should be some back and forth. What I will say,
is though, Jim Dike
continuing
to make plays.
Run an outside receiver
with the second offense.
Right now he's catching passes
from Mitch Trabiski consistently.
You can put two and two together here.
DK. is with Trabisky a ton.
Restrepo is with Trabisky a ton.
Osborne's catching passes
from Trabisky.
So that's three,
which leaves Wondale Robinson,
Carnal Tate, and
Elyke-I-O-Manner, I guess.
currently, and that's surprising to me, because with how D.K.
is playing, D.K. more similarly to Calvin Ridley, in my opinion.
Maybe they want to get Cornell Tate some work at Z, so they're running Elyke Iommanner at X
so that Tate can practice at the Z spot as well.
See how he does there instead of just being at the X nonstop.
That would make sense as well, so I could see that.
But interesting, that Iow Manor and Tate and Wondale Robinson are currently
the starting wide receivers with Calvin Ridley not participating in these
team activities and things like that, which is smart.
Ridley's over 30. They're trying to
be slow with him, and that makes sense. It's the middle
of June, not training camp yet. Let's make sure he's
ready for that. But Elyke Eo Manor
reports of some drops.
There's a throw. Cam had a perfect throw to him when he got open.
He didn't turn his head around quick enough. I think
TD said on one.
Elic Eo Manor is someone who
I don't think has taken advantage of the opportunities
that he's being given right now.
and he's a guy who I'm looking at.
Is he going to be able to step up and be,
I know that he looks good.
He looks great.
He looks muscular.
He looks in shape.
That's all great.
That doesn't mean that you're going to catch the football.
And he had the ball knocked out of his hands by a latte on one,
had a drop,
had a couple drops yesterday.
Again,
didn't turn his head around for one.
I just don't know if it's going to click for him quite yet.
I got my eye on Alecai over.
manner. He's an interesting player going forward. I just don't know.
Is he just going to be like a wide receiver four or five utility guy?
Can he be one of your top three wide receivers? I think that remains to be seen. So interesting
there. Quiet day for Carnell Tate. He had one catch that I saw reported. Maybe he had another
one in there, maybe two catches on the day, but nothing spectacular, nothing that really
stood out again. It was more about the slot guys, the tight ends on this day. And I don't think
that that's a coincidence.
Because
Cordell Flott
and Alante Taylor
are back out there now.
And apparently
Alante Taylor was being
very physical
throughout the practice
with Elico Ionor
most of the time
Cordell Flot
running on Carnell Tate
most of the time
Cardinal Tate
can't throw the ball
to himself.
You know what I mean?
But I talked about this
at the beginning of the week.
I want to hear
the Cornell Tate
chemistry continuing to grow.
course I do. But at some point in time, it's like, I know that Cam Ward could probably throw a little
fade ball to Cornell Tate over and over and over again. I want to, again, I want to hear how some of
these other guys are doing. And hearing that Elye O'Manor hasn't really taken advantage of those
opportunities based on the practice reports, hearing that Wondell Robinson has been a big factor.
Hearing that Daniel Bellinger is getting target after target. Gunner Helm is impressing every single
day. I feel confident that Cam Ward and Cornell Tate can have that connection and kind of have
that bread and butter, that thing that they can rely on.
I want to hear about all the other stuff
starting to progress. And I feel like that's exactly
what we got this week, which is exactly
what I was wanting. But again, that's just
the offensive side of the ball, the defense.
The defense came to play
in this practice.
The defense got their licks too,
especially on the defensive line.
And look, these non-padded
practices are certainly
slanted towards the
defensive line when it comes to offensive line versus defensive line.
The offensive line can't slam quite as well.
Defensive linemen are already generally better athletes than offensive linemen.
So in non-padded practices where athleticism can dominate even more,
yes, there's going to be a little bit of a slant towards the defensive line.
So keep that in mind as I tell you this.
Although I know what the comments are going to say.
Pressure on the quarterbacks all day long.
especially Cam Ward.
Jermaine Johnson, first play, the first play of team drills.
Jermaine Johnson slipped inside Dan Moore and got a sack.
Welcome back, Dan Moore. Awesome.
Now, that's great news for Jermaine Johnson.
And coaches are raving about him.
He looks good.
Aaron Whitecotton said he looks like the guy that he was with the Jets two years ago.
So great, great news.
Jacob Martin had a sack.
Jacob Martin had a pressure.
Cedric Gray blitzed and got a sack.
There were other pressures throughout the day.
Brendan Crenshaw Dixon apparently is playing right tackle
with J.C. Latham out.
We'll talk about the injuries here in a second.
But the defensive line, John Franklin Myers,
Solomon Thomas had a knockdown,
going to the linebackers.
Cody Barton had a P.B.U.
Knocked down at the line of scrimmage.
Cedric Gray knocked down a Camp Ward pass.
Cordell Flott, again, knocked the ball out of somebody's hands.
I think it was Elyke-O-Manner at one point.
Cordell Flott knocked the ball out of his hands.
I saw, you know, I got conflicting reports from what I read
and the different things of who was garden who,
but I saw one.
Alante Taylor getting real physical with Carnell Tate on one.
Again, Cam Ward got points on all of his drives,
got field goals, but did not get a touchdown.
So this is what a healthy team, a good team will look like.
The defense gets their wins.
The offense gets their wins.
Both sides have moments back and forth, this and that.
And I feel like that's what we've got with this mandatory mini-kut.
But I know that saying, hey, there was sacks and pressure
and back downs at the line of scrimmage.
I know the instant response to that.
The instant response to that is going to be the Titans' offensive line sucks.
Here we go.
But well, you know what?
You may be right.
Because Dan Moore, we know who he is.
Shloatman, Cordell Volson is the start.
right now. J.C. Latham is out.
and if Brendan Crenshaw-Dixon is the one who's in there for him,
yeah, I would tell you that's not a very good offensive line,
even if things are slanted towards the defensive line.
And I would tell you that you're fair to worry about that.
If we do a list of things that could be big worries for the Titans
as we go into training camp, obviously number one on the list is offensive line.
So no surprise there.
That's the theme, right? No surprises.
Okay. But with that being said, we did get updates on certain injuries,
and unfortunately we didn't get great news on three different players,
although the news varies in terms of severity.

Fans, let's cap off today's edition
of the Locked-on Titans podcast.
Again, breaking down everything you need to know
from Tennessee Titans mandatory minicamp.
We talked about the two slot-wide receivers
having a great day.
We talked about the offense and defense
going back and forth
and having their wins, particularly,
with the defense and the pass rush.
But now I want to talk about some of the injury updates
that we got from Robert Sala
finishing off mandatory minicamp
before I do though, thank you again

But with that being said, again,
we got injury updates.
And as we feared,
Femiola Dejo is nursing and injury.
So he was injured and only played six games as rookie year.
He's been injured to the point where he's missed.
a month of the off season.
If he misses time during training camp,
like, I was a Femi supporter.
I've been a big Femi defender.
You guys know that.
But at some point,
we got to face reality here as well, right?
Like, if this guy is a developmental project
that just can't stay on the field,
and maybe,
maybe his body could take
what he was doing at linebacker.
It was conditioned for what he was doing at linebacker.
Maybe his body just can't handle what you have to do to be an edge.
Maybe just the switch.
What his muscles had gotten used to, the muscle memory of linebacker.
Now you're activating different things.
You're at different angles.
You're playing football a different way.
Maybe his body can handle it in the linebacker way and it just can't for the edge way.
I don't know.
But most of you guys out there, the majority of people I would say did not like the
Femiola Day Show pick.
And you're looking like you might be right because he simply just can't
can't get on the field to develop the way that he needs to.
And it's unfortunate.
And Aaron Whitecotton, and we'll talk about this more during the summer,
but Aaron White Cotton said they've been able to talk to him about what he's going to be asked to do.
Like, this is how we're going to use you.
This is what we think you're going to do well.
This is what moves we want you to use.
This is how you're going to win.
And that's great.
But until he can physically get out there and start to rep those things,
it's a disaster.
It has been a disaster offseason for Femiole de Jio.
He is the biggest loser of the offseason so far
for the Tennessee Titans.
No doubt about that there.
J.C. Latham, nursing something.
Also terrible news.
And this is another thing where
can J.C. Latham's body hold up
with the demand he's putting on it.
So Latham was a heavier guy.
He's lost a lot of weight.
335, 340, that's great.
But at the college level, his body wasn't stressed as much
because the speed, the power, it's just different.
The difference in the demand on the body
at the NFL level from the college level,
plus J.C. Latham pushing his body to be smaller,
which he absolutely has to.
He can't survive at 360, 370.
That's true.
I'm not saying that he's wrong to think that.
He's right. He can't.
He won't be fast enough.
But maybe his body just can't handle the ask of being in the shape that he needs to be
to be good enough.
Maybe that's just the reality.
Because since he lost the weight, he's been hurt.
He's been hurt.
So it does make you wonder.
I hope he can get back right because if J.C. Latham misses time,
boy, the Titans' offensive line is just absolutely disastrous in an unmanageable way, quite honestly.
So they need him back.
Finally, Jeffrey Simmons, apparently he is banged up.
He had elbow surgery.
He said, you know, he has the big elbow brace on all the time.
He said his elbow's been messed up for years.
And he hasn't been able to fully extend properly.
and he had to have it. I think I need a cleanup surgery on my elbow.
I'll be, if anybody out there knows,
I have such bad pain in like the outside part of my elbow,
like at the bottom on the front of my elbow,
at the bottom near my tricep,
and it hurts so bad.
I don't know.
It's like tennis elbow or tenant or what.
But anyway, Big Jeff, I know how it is, brother.
And it's hard.
And you've noticed it.
If you watch Big Jeff closely out on the field,
you can see him messing with his elbow.
quite a bit throughout the season.
So the fact that he led the NFL,
led Interior defensive linemen in the NFL
with Sacks last year,
and had a bum elbow for years.
He got it cleaned up.
He's out there working doing individual drills,
things like that, but I'm perfectly fine
with playing slow with Jeffrey Simmons.
Simmons had a lot of interesting things to say
about his training, his role within the defense,
the snap count limits of the defense,
how that helps him, his contract situation.
We're going to go over all that
very, very soon. So much to dive into.
Make sure that you're here with me
throughout the entire summer break
on Locked on Titans. But that's going to do it
for me today, folks. As
always, I am your host,
Tyler Rowland, and this
was Locked on Titans.
