Hey folks, Aaron here.
Welcome to Deeper Lore, a short bonus episode designed to be a topical guide.
Now because I've noticed some confusion on why exactly I am making these little bonus
guides, I thought I would quickly revisit the purpose I had in mind.
This week, my team and I published Lore Episode 251, which is the 275th brand new episode,
if you count all of the Lore legends as well. Never, my friends,
did I expect my little podcast to go this long. But it also presents a problem, right?
Can you remember the episode number of your favorite vampire story? Or track down that
fun deep dive we did a few years ago into the concept of medicinal cannibalism? No?
Well, don't feel bad because I need a spreadsheet to keep it all straight.
I've covered so much stuff here in the past nine years.
So for deeper lore, my aim is simple.
If a new lore episode reminds you of a past episode on the same topic,
or if it simply sparked your interest in learning more about that topic,
then I figured that it could be a helpful way to get some recommendations from me to you. It's not a money grab or a rerun or a way to waste your time. I honestly feel like there
are some old episodes buried so deep in the podcast feed that you might need some help finding them.
So deeper lore is my solution to that. It's me being helpful. To that end, this week's new lore,
251, is all about the ancient roots of what we
might think of as magic. And thanks to the fantastic research my team did, we were able
to time travel back to ancient Greeks and Romans and see what role magic played in their day-to-day
lives. And if you found that sort of journey to be entertaining or educational or both,
here are three related older episodes that might be fun to
revisit or hear for the first time. First, go download number 196 Bad Seed. In keeping with
the magical theme here, this oldie is all about weather magic. It's one of my favorites, covering
stuff that you know by heart but you never thought of as weather magic before, like Groundhog's Day
or Red Skies at Night, Sailor's Delight.
Seriously, go download it and enjoy all of the cool party facts that you'll walk away with.
Next, re-listen to 127, Tipping the Scales. It's another magical episode, but this time it's all
about the power of the mummy's curse, where it came from, and if it's really an ancient form of
magic. Re-listen today and you'll thank me later.
And finally, you can't go wrong with 221 Remote Control.
For this episode from last year, we get a bit more specific and discuss Love Magic.
It's not as rose-colored glasses as you might expect,
and there's a bunch of really entertaining stories in this one.
I highly recommend it.
So, there you go.
Follow up this week's brand new episode with the trip into the past. I highly recommend it.
