Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey folks, Aaron here. Welcome back to another edition of Deeper Lour, a bonus episode that's designed to serve as a topical guide to the most recent episode of lore. So, have you ever wondered where you can find more episodes on the topic you just heard about, or did this particular type of folklore get you interested in keeping the vibe going? Did the newest episode of lore make you want to go deeper into a particular topic? Well, that's the purpose of deeper lore. In these short bonus episodes, I'll dig into our... vast archive of 10 years of episodes and point out some old ones that fit well with this week's
Starting point is 00:00:35 newest. The hope is that you can keep this spooky feeling going well into the weekend, putting a handful of episodes into a new, more powerful context. So let's get started, shall we? This week for episode 288, Doom and Gloom, we look into folklore about the end of the world and explored moments in history where those stories impacted real societies in a bizarre way. But it's not the first time that we've discussed people who seem to know more than the rest of the world around them. So here are three older episodes that will pair up nicely with this week's new one. First up, episode 50, Mary, Mary. Now, I have to confess that out of nearly 350 episodes, this is one of my favorites.
Starting point is 00:01:16 I'm not exactly sure why that is, but the story of one family's tragic loss and another's supernatural gain has a way of hitting me right in the fields. Plus, it's darn right creepy. to listen, either in its original format or as one of our remastered episodes. Your choice. Next, download episode 111, Inside Job. This is a weird one, featuring a woman who could go to sleep and find things for other people, things that were thought to be lost and gone forever. Sleeping Lucy is an amazing character, and her story will delight you. And finally, there's episode 151 by the book. Conjure up images of sorcerers and witches in your mind,
Starting point is 00:01:55 and you're bound to picture them using magic books. It's a trope that goes back centuries, and much of it came from one specific branch of folklore, grimoires. These books were used as tools by many people throughout history to claim knowledge that no one else possessed. I love this episode, and I hope you will as well. So, there you go. Follow up this week's brand new episode with a trip into the past.
