Hey folks, Aaron here.
Welcome back to another edition of Deeper Lour,
a bonus episode designed to serve as a topical guide
to the most recent episode of lore.
Have you ever wondered where you can find more episodes
on the topic you just heard about?
Did this particular type of folklore get you interested
in keeping the vibe going, so to speak?
Did the newest episode of lore make you want to go deeper
into a particular topic?
Well, that's the purpose of deeper lore.
In this short bonus episode,
I'll dig into our vast 10-year archive and point out some old episodes that fit well with this week's newest.
The hope is that you can keep this spooky feeling going well into the weekend,
putting a handful of episodes into a new, more powerful context.
So let's get started, shall we?
This week for episode 295, Making Your Mark,
we take a look at the wild and wacky world of gambling folklore.
It's fascinating how embedded many of these superstitions are in our culture today,
and how different the true roots of those beliefs are from what you would assume.
But it's not the first time we've discussed everyday folk beliefs here.
So here are three older episodes that will pair up nicely with this week's new one.
First up, episode 54, Teachers Pet.
In this classic episode, we explore an idea that most people have heard of
because of how ubiquitous the term has become, doppelgangers.
The roots of the folklore, though, are eye-opening and very, very difficult to fully
explain away. So check it out today. Next, download episode 74. All Fall Down. What a better place to
find mundane, subconscious folklore than in our conversations about the weather. This episode
explores some of the more weird weather phenomena that have been documented, and it is a fascinating
journey that I think you'll really enjoy. And finally, there's episode 87 road trip. You can't
throw a stick these days without hitting an alien conspiracy. From
flying saucers and strange lights to abductions and lost time.
It's a pretty robust corner of folklore, and it all started with one event.
As a side note, the story from episode 87 about Betty and Barney Hill
helped inspire an entire spinoff podcast that the team and I made a few years ago called
Strange Arrivals, written and narrated by journalist Toby Ball.
It's a fantastic look at UFO encounters and their impact on the world around us.
Plus, strange arrivals is being developed as a major motion picture right now,
starring Demi Moore and Coleman Domingo.
Hashtagg.
And there you go.
Follow up this week's brand new episode with a trip into the past.
Episodes 54, 74, and 87 are waiting for you in this podcast feed.

And until next time, stay spooky.
Hi, I'm Chris Getherd, and I'm very...
excited to tell you about Beautiful Anonymous, a podcast where I talk to random people on the phone.
I tweet out a phone number, thousands of people try to call, you talk to one of them, they stay
anonymous, I can't hang up, that's all the rules. I never know what's going to happen. We get serious
ones. I've talked with meth dealers on their way to prison. I've talked to people who survive
mass shootings, crazy funny ones. I talk to a guy with a goose laugh, somebody who dresses up as a pirate
on the weekends. I never know what's going to happen. It's a great show. Subscribe today, Beautiful
Anonymous.
