Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to Love Life, I'm Matthew Hussey. Now do you ever feel like you're stuck in a rut? We all do from time to time. The problem is just going through the motions cuts off our ability to grow and increase our happiness in life. Now what would happen if you actually began living each and every day with purpose? Let me tell you, it is possible to transform your life from ordinary to extraordinary. And it doesn't have to take months or years, but just a matter of days. Stick with me till the end of the show and I'll tell you exactly how to do it.
Starting point is 00:00:39 It's that time again, people. You may have heard this segment before. This is the second run at it. The first one was a huge hit. This one's going to be even bigger. This new segment is called Boring Heroes. We did this to commemorate all of those ordinary people who in their lives don't get enough credit for the little moments where they prove to be extraordinary. They may seem boring to everyone else, but to me, they are not. To me, they are heroes and we are making them renowned. We are making them famous. We are giving them the appreciation they deserve through this segment. So this is round two, my friends. This week's boring hero is Justin. Welcome, my friends, to Boring Heroes. This person, I was in Seattle on tour and I was eating in a fish restaurant and this wonderful
Starting point is 00:01:28 guy kept coming up and he was serving my food. And at the end of the meal, he said something that I've never heard a waiter say before. He passed me my check and then he looked at me with a really friendly expression, looked me dead in the eye. And he said to me, come back soon. We love seeing the same faces. Come back soon. We love seeing the same faces. Now, what I loved about this moment is that it made me instantly feel part of something. It made me feel like I belong. I've talked before in episodes on Love Life about social anxiety. And one of the great ways to overcome social anxiety is to feel familiar with a place. And one of the things I loved about this is he made me feel familiar. Even though I
Starting point is 00:02:16 was new to Seattle, even though I was new to this restaurant, I'd never eaten there before, even though I'd never met him before. He made me feel like I belonged. And when he said, come back soon, we love seeing the same faces. In that moment, I thought, you know what? If I had an extra night here, I would come back to this restaurant because this person made me feel like I belonged. This person made me feel at home. Now, people don't generally do this. Let's step out of the realm of waiters for the moment and just talk about business in general. How often do businesses at the end of an interaction say something like, hey, you know what? Come back soon. We love seeing the same faces in here. How often does someone say that? And how much stronger would people's businesses
Starting point is 00:02:59 be if they did? If people introduced that one millimeter shift into their organization or into their everyday lives, they would find that the repeat customers would go up. They would find that the customer experience would go up. In fact, there's been research to show that whatever you do at the end of something, at the end of an interaction, generally skews the entire tone of the interaction in someone's memory, whatever you do at the end. So how you finish something is so important. So when he said to me, come back soon, we love seeing the same faces, that set the tone for the entire interaction in my memory. It skewed it. It put a different tint on the whole thing. And of course, if I went back there, I would be more inclined to visit that restaurant than to go somewhere else because I felt at home there. You can introduce this into
Starting point is 00:03:49 your life in any way that you want. But what I want you to understand is that this creates a real sense of community and reciprocity that makes someone want to come back to you. What he did with this comment is he created a sense of community, a sense of belonging that we all want. And I want you to introduce this into your everyday life and notice from this boring hero how a one millimeter shift can make all the difference. That was months ago now, and I'm talking about it today. That's how easy it is to be extraordinary in a moment. Send me your boring heroes. I cannot wait to hear about them. Leave comments on Facebook. It's Coach Matthew Hussey. Let me know the people that you
Starting point is 00:04:31 think are underappreciated and underappreciated and under admired. Send them through. And as I said before, you send me your boring hero. I will make them renowned. I can't wait to speak to you soon, my friends. So earlier we were talking about being stuck in a rut.
