Okay, today's topic, Facebook or fake book.
We're going to be talking about Facebook and how it has a massive impact on our own personal self-esteem and how we can actually avoid that trap.
What happens is we go on Facebook and we just see how amazing people's lives look on the surface.
You know, we don't see the reality.
What we see is the holiday that they went on.
And of course, every part of the year is occupied by one of your friends going on holiday.
And you look at it and you go, oh my God, I'm stuck in this office in the rain and everyone
else is having, everyone's having fun but me.
Then you look at people's relationships and you see, you know, ladies, I'm sorry, you're
more guilty of this than guys are you see people put up pictures of them with their boyfriend and it's
like here's us on a beach rock somewhere indescript look how happy we are and they were on that rock
for a grand total of one minute in fact they, she made him climb up onto that rock for a photo that she planned
for Instagram or Facebook, but it looks amazing. And everyone goes, oh my God, everyone's relationship
is better than mine. But of course that represents 1% of their entire relationship. The rest of the
time they're doing normal stuff and everyone gets frustrated. Now, the problem is that makes us
insecure about our own lives
and we don't compensate by trying to do more exciting things. We tend to compensate by giving
up. We get overwhelmed by the amount of excitement we're not having and we just end up doing less.
Now, what I want us to do is understand the reality of the situation that most people,
most of the time, live mundane lives. In fact, I'm going
to correct that. Everyone, the most part of their lives is mundane. It doesn't matter who they are.
You could be, by the way, you could be a Hollywood actor. 90% of your time is spent in a trailer.
You're not doing anything. My job, everyone sees these things of me public speaking online and me
in front of big audiences. That represents
10% of my year. The rest of the time I'm sitting in front of a laptop at home trying to grow my
business and my organization. Life gets pretty mundane. And I don't think that the excitement
in life is about finding the excitement in the extraordinary. I think it's about finding the
extraordinary in the mundane moments. But we cannot do that when we're comparing our lives to everyone else's.
And by the way, sometimes people decide how great their lives are by how they compare themselves to someone else.
Here's the truth.
Get back to your life.
Switch off that computer and get back to your life and the moments in your life.
And start small.
Read a new book.
Go see a movie you haven't seen before.
Walk in a part of your area that you
haven't walked before and appreciate that seemingly mundane, stupid little moment,
because that's what life is all about. There's a quote, and I will leave you this quote because
I think it's one of the most important things we can hear all week or even all year. Don't compare
your behind the scenes to somebody else's highlight reel. With that, I will let you
go and live your mundane and extraordinary life as I will mine. And if you want more information,
go to howtogettheguy.com and you'll find information not just on your love life,
but on your life and every part of your world that can maybe help you take a small step forward.
