Hello and welcome to Main Engine Cutoff, I am Anthony Colangelo, and I've got some cool
news to talk about today.
I've mentioned it on the last couple of shows, but thought that it's worth taking a couple
of minutes doing a special episode to just talk you through some changes that are happening.
worth taking a couple of minutes doing a special episode to just talk you through some changes that are happening. And if you're a fan of the show, they are the best changes that you could hope for,
because last week I left my full-time job at Big Cartel. I don't know if a lot of you know,
but I've been working full-time gig at Big Cartel. I've actually been there about seven years now.
But I made the decision that it's time to go independent, to do more main engine cutoff, more off nominal.
My other show that I do with Jake Robbins, I'll talk more about that in a bit.
I'm also going to be building some of my own apps, and to round all that out, I'm going to be doing a lot of client work.
Really, any digital projects that you've got to do, I might be someone that can help you with that.
My day job, I'm an iOS developer by trade, but I do a lot of web
development, web design, native app design. Really, like I said, any digital projects is what I really
tackle. So that's going to be a thing that rounds out all this work. But the goal here is to make
main engine cutoff and off nominal the primary thing that I do that other projects bend around.
For a long time, that's been the inverse relationship that I had these projects,
uh,
going and I would fill in my time available with those projects.
Um,
things obviously changed when I had a kid a year and a half ago and,
started thinking about more longer term stuff.
And also,
you know,
this project here is almost coming up on six years old,
uh,
in April and it's
grown a lot.
Thanks to all of you out there listening, especially thanks to those of you out there
supporting at mainenginecutoff.com slash support.
I'll mention that because now is a really good time to jump in there.
If you are pumped about this direction that I'm going to do more of this show and to do
different things, it's a good time to jump in there and support because that is really the thing
that's making this all possible,
that I've got this level of support from you all
that gives me the launchpad to do this
and to make this change and to be confident in it
and to really fulfill what I've always wanted
out of these projects that I do here.
You know, Miko's, like I said, almost six years old, but I feel like I'm still starting out. There's a lot of things I want to try. There's
a lot more I want to do. There's a lot of new things I want to try, more travel to do. And that
all becomes easier when this becomes the primary thing that I do, that other stuff in my schedule
works around. And that's really the main change. And over on the off-nominal side, if you have not
checked out off-nominal, I cannot, you I cannot impress upon you enough how much you need to check this out. If you like what I do here, I think you'll love OffNominal. OffNom.com is where to go.
actually look up my details. I think it was four years ago. But we've changed a lot in recent months. And we're trying a lot of new things there. And it's feeling so good to be doing
something new there and trying some stuff out to see what we can do. So there is the
off nominal podcast that we do once a month. We also stream that live on YouTube as we do it.
But we just started a new weekly show called off nominal happy hour every Thursday at 4pm Eastern.
We're going to be talking with creators in space that are working on interesting projects people that are in space
doing interesting work we're going to be talking more about current events they're really just a
weekly hangout with jake and i and some friends from around the internet i i think it's been a
lot of fun so far we've done a couple of shows the first one we talked about a project that jake did
called mars time the second one we had uh Krause, the photographer on, who was the main photographer for Inspiration4
and is an incredible photographer all around.
And that was a really fun conversation talking with him about covering that mission, about
being a photographer and things that have changed over time.
And then the most recent one that we did was talking all about what I'm talking to you
about right now is why I'm making this change, talking about with Jake, some of the stuff that we're trying with Off Nominal, why we're trying it, and then digging into Jake's projects as well and talking about things he might be doing differently in 2022.
And we're just getting started on that.
The week after Christmas, we're going to be having Jeff Faust from Space News on to talk about what next year in space will be like and what last year in space was like.
So it's just going to be people like this that we bring on and time to hang out.
So please check that out.
YouTube.com slash off nominal.
You can check out everything we're doing over there because that's going to be a big part
that I focus my energy on because both Miko and off-Nominal, I think they're unique and fun
projects and it's the ways that I want to spend my time. But anyway, to get back to the main plot,
I just, I'm so excited to be doing this and it's going to be a really interesting year.
So I'm going to be doing more Miko. I might try some new things out. You might see me traveling
more. I'm still figuring out all of my plans for the year. And obviously given the state of the
world, things are getting a little bit shaken up at the current moment as I record this just before Christmas here
in 2021. But we'll see what happens on the other side. Once again, I do just want to mention if
you have any interesting projects out there that you'd like to work with me on, I am doing some
client work. So if you have a digital project of some sort, that might be something that fits me
and a couple of teammates that I have as well. Hit me up, let's talk about some sort that might be something that fits me and a couple of teammates
that I have as well, hit me up. Let's talk about it. It might be interesting to work together
and kind of round out what I'm doing here. So I don't want this to go on too long. I'll get
kind of rambly. I did write a little bit of post over on my personal site. I'll have a link to that
in the show notes if you want to read some more about behind the scenes stuff. If you want to
click some links to the projects that I have going
and some of the other stuff that I've done in my past,
that's a good spot to do it.
And I'll also leave a link to the Off Nominal Happy Hour
where Jake and I dive into this topic in depth
if you want to hear more about it.
Just know that I'm so thankful for your support.
You're making this possible.
If you're someone listening to this,
if you're someone supporting the show,
you're making it possible to do this.
And I'm excited to be able to have time
to do more for you
and to have more Miko out in the world
because I think it could be
a very special thing we have going here
and over at Authnominal.
So thank you, thank you, thank you so much.
So thankful for all of your support over the years
and for you being a listener,
spreading the word,
all of that is making this possible.
So here's to a great 2022 and beyond.
