Starting point is 00:03:03 That's our sponsors. Alright. Does that then we can start the show finally just always got to keep coordinating with our guests chatting on the phone over there tanner people don't know this we don't really do any cuts in the show so we do this whole guest thing when you say we don't really do any cuts you mean we do zero sorry yes in the his in the 249 episode history we've done like two. Yeah. Because we had two or something. I think one was like a technical error.
Starting point is 00:03:28 Yeah. Like big enough that it was like, okay, this would be annoying to have a gap in here this long. Yeah, that's probably about it. So we have to court. If you haven't figured it out by now, we usually talk for about half an hour. Then we have our guests on. So we have to have that all coordinated. And when we call them, when you hear it ring on the audio or watching it on YouTube, that's not like piped in ringing.
Starting point is 00:03:51 That's the phone actually ringing and then them hopefully picking it up and answering. And we hopefully have that all worked out before we start recording here. And we're getting really good at sticking to the script for 30 minutes before we call the guest. We do kind of. We do keep it to that pretty well.
Starting point is 00:04:06 I wonder if we'll do it today. We're already four. We've already used four. We've got about 26 to 30 left. And we've got good sack seconds today. We do got a lot. Okay, so we do got a lot to cover. So we should get ready to it.
Starting point is 00:04:16 But we are going to work up a thirst during all this, Tanner. Let's just say, we'll say this is a what's in the can. Is it an aha orange grapefruit no not this time because i wouldn't be disappointed i wouldn't either but it's not this is a what's in the can tanner let's do this so this is a what's in the can this is a what's in the can so i'm uh my eyes are open but i'm not looking here oh it's got a nice crisp opening i'm gonna take i like to take a sniff first. Yeah, there's a smell.
Starting point is 00:04:49 I don't know what it is, but it's, it's, it's aromatic for sure. I don't think I would've got this one off a smell. And for anyone that doesn't know what what's in the can is, if you can't figure it out by the name alone, we usually sample a beverage. Maybe, maybe someone's new to me. That's always fun to think that it could be someone's first ever episode. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:06 Statistically, it's someone's first ever episode. Sparkling water, for sure. Okay. Okay. Tastes like the lemon lime to me. Are you ready for it? Some version of lemon lime. Are you ready for it?
Starting point is 00:05:24 At least one of those two ingredients has to be in the name of this. It is. lemon lime to me some are you ready for it some version of lemon lime are you ready for it at least at least one of those two ingredients has to be in the name of this so yes it is lemon oh okay just lemon okay just just limo i'm actually going to double check because i'm pretty sure i looked at yes it is just lemon it is in fact just lemon okay and it's refreshing see they throw you off guard but you know they get so fancy and it's a lacroix and it's a lacro, they throw you off guard, but, you know, they get so fancy. And it's a LaCroix. And it's a LaCroix. They get so fancy with the flavoring sometimes. It's like, oh, it's just coming at me with one flavor. This, to me, is a for sure four.
Starting point is 00:05:53 Let me try again. I put lemon at a for sure four out of five J.D. Power & Associates Awards. I would probably agree just because it is very, like, I could slam this. Oh, yeah. Give me another. Yeah. Let's go for round two. It's delicious.
Starting point is 00:06:08 It is hard for me to tell that this is just lemon and not lemon lime. Yeah, that there's not an extra flavor in there. I would like to put lemon next to lemon lime. But I would like, nah, it's lemon cucumber, Tanner. You'd be like, ah, the cucumber. Always hanging around. The honey cucumber got me. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:23 Good sparkling water, though. Yeah, it is a classic. So, Tanner, we do have a lot to cover today. And I'm just looking. People can't tell, but we are in a room, and I'm just looking at all the things that we want to talk about because they're sitting in the room with us. Right.
Starting point is 00:06:38 I don't know where to start. Well, we did. Should we start maybe with our stuff first? Yeah, let's start with our stuff. Because the last time our stuff got pushed to the back burner. Yeah, and we don't like that. That's not good for business that's not best business practice so first of all i am wearing this shirt that's kind of been under wraps for quite a while now this is the first time i can publicly publicly wear this tan yeah you've had it for a while then too yeah this is the sumo poles shirt and i mean you gotta you should if you're not watching you
Starting point is 00:07:03 should be watching otherwise go on the, you'll see it on there. But Sumo pull, this thing's classic. This thing looks good. Yeah. Cause this is, as we're recording this, this is releasing tomorrow. So, but the, the drop, the clothing drop is releasing tomorrow. And this episode comes out Monday. So hopefully there's some of these left.
Starting point is 00:07:18 We've had this problem lately. I actually wouldn't care if there was none left. Well, I do. You do catch me on that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Ideally there won't be any left if you're listening right now ideally for you maybe there'll be some left like one left in
Starting point is 00:07:30 your size because we have had this thing happening where we talk about these products that are and then they kind of like and then they're like gone before uh but this one uh the we have a it says sumo very large in smaller text there's the word pulls a red silhouette of a guy doing a sumo deadlift and the red really does pop it does pop you could actually say this whole shirt really does pop yeah it's um it's a good looking design it is i'll say that it is so i think uh i think people are gonna like this you gotta see it if you were just listening to this in audio you need to look at this design to really get what's going on you do need to see it. If you were just listening to this in audio, you need to look at this design. To really get what's going on, you do need to see this one. Because there's some stuff to it.
Starting point is 00:08:08 But we did have a long time ago, we sent one to Massanomics team member, Jonathan Oldham, down in Alabama. And his Instagram had several comments of people saying, where is that shirt from? Where can I get it? And normally I'd be hopping in there and being like, come on over. We're over here. But since it was kind of –
Starting point is 00:08:23 We were playing hard to get in the beginning. Right, right, right. I think this one will go over on over. We're over here. But since it was kind of hard to get in the beginning. Right. I think this one will go over pretty well. Are we ready for next for item number two? Item number two on the docket. Come on down. We have a big one. Actually, we got two pairs here, Tanner.
Starting point is 00:08:36 Oh, good. We can both. And these actually might not exist. There's a good chance these won't be by the time. There's one of the things that not. Yes. So we won't talk about this for too long because there's a good chance these are the limited edition only 100 pairs bench heavy shorts yep and the last time we had a pair of limited edition blue shorts it was the blue lift
Starting point is 00:08:53 shorts and i mean even if you're a short time listener of this show you know how that turned out yeah yeah you know how that turned out so uh bench heavy of course because they're limited edition they're coming with the certificate of authenticity yep uh and royal you know things are serious when we bust out the royal blue when the when the royal blue shows up yeah uh there's no there's no time to be messing around it's only business so i do not anticipate these being around too long no maybe a little longer than lift shorts but probably not super long yeah these are limited edition the same way that the royal blue was like you said where each one comes with a its very own certificate of authenticity a numbered certificate of authenticity and when these are gone just like we did with the
Starting point is 00:09:37 blue lift shorts we're not reordering them yeah the the lift shorts i mean some of those are in trophy cases across the world literally they are some are on-worn, on-display cases with their certificates of authenticity. That's how you know it's a keeper. These came out cool, though. Yeah, they look great. It's our Bench Heavy logo, obviously. Next on the list, we have this amazing, and I don't use this, i'm not using that word lightly i'm not just throwing it around but this amazing massonomics heavy lager silly pint and this is at 22 ounce 22 ounce 22 ounce now this cup tanner in my house when you brought this over last week and i said wow this is really
Starting point is 00:10:18 cool yep uh my wife thought it was even cooler than i did because she has had this for like the last week she like won't let me take it like this has become like her cup which is kind of a weird thing to have but it's just that cool of a cup like and it fits perfectly in your garbage can yeah because it is disposable it's great in that just throw away culture of the world we live in today the 22 ounce thing is pretty sweet you know it is it's a very it's a large piece yeah so the other silly pints we've had in the past are our true pints they're 16 ounce which is uh good for serving a good purpose and they're a little bit cheaper obviously this one's a little more expensive but the 22 ounce is a nice size and the blue tie-dye yeah really really does pop tan that if there was a word to describe the appearance of that it's pop right that is the word yeah what else do we
Starting point is 00:11:05 have on the list we have restocks major restocks lift shorts who knows how long those will last and those have been out of stock for quite a while especially in certain sizes like xl and 2xl for so for all the uh slightly beefier boys or girls out there don't wait on those because there has been a limited supply on some of these champion shorts for whatever reason yeah they're really hard to get do we have a we have a good supply going into this launch but it could not like it could go fast so we have those joggers getting restocked those will for sure be the last stock of the season yep um we don't we don't restock joggers in the summertime so or even the spring so once those ones are gone, they're gone until maybe Black Friday. We don't know if that's for sure.
Starting point is 00:11:49 So if you're interested in those at all, you're going to want to get on those. And anything else? That's debatable. Oh, yeah, you're right. You're right. Okay. That probably is everything. Right.
Starting point is 00:12:02 Yep, that probably is all of it. Okay. So get on that if you guys haven't yeah tanto jump on it name that song i i don't know what that song is actually called tanto jump on it yeah is it on the fresh prince ballet where he dances that yeah that is it isn't it what's that song actually called i don't know it's called the song that plays that wedding dances yeah I can't think of it well we'll never know Tanner we'll never know it's one of those things I'm sure nobody listening knows no one will ever know no one will ever DM it to the Massanomics
Starting point is 00:12:40 Instagram account I promise nope won't happen should we talk about some more of the goodies we have here? Cause I'm seeing stuff over there, Tanner. And I want to, I want to, I want to really see what we got. I came buried in gifts this week. Yes,
Starting point is 00:12:52 you did. So this is a sack segment that we're into. I busted out a sack here, of course. Maybe you want to hold on to those bench limited edition bench heavy shorts. Oh, this is all actually for you. Oh, this is actually for you. Oh, not related to this or the podcast.
Starting point is 00:13:11 Or anything at all. Oh, there's actually something else in here that we also not related to us talking on the podcast. That is a bag of goodies over there, Tanner. Yes. So what size do we got? There you go. So do you know what you're holding there? I know exactly know exactly what i'm holding i'm gonna gotta open i haven't even opened mine either i actually saw one of these in person for the first time the other day who was wearing it
Starting point is 00:13:35 jake big jake at the gym okay i don't know if i saw no no no no no i'm sorry he had ours on yeah that's what i was yeah yeah let's see we actually don't even i haven't yeah i haven't seen this one in person actually i that never really dawned on me so this is the kind of fit kind of fat we did the collab with them obviously here this last month and this is their version of the shirt yep and it's funny when just opening this my mind played a trick on me for a split second i'm like oh they printed it upside down. The guy's doing the cake stand on the back. I'm like, why?
Starting point is 00:14:09 You know, there's like a split. It is really cool getting to see the shirt after all this time. Yup. So it's got the kind of fit kind of fat by massonomics keg on the front with the beer spilling out. And then the back is the, uh, kind of the kind of fit kind of fat strong man,
Starting point is 00:14:23 dude, doing a keg stand, a lift keg stand on a lift keg and we've talked about this many times on the podcast now but to see it in person it's always special and i don't know what their availability this is one you buy from them uh not from the not from massonomics.com you'd buy this from kind of fit kind of fat i don't know what their availability is on it right now if they're maybe restocking some because i know they've sold quick also but you can certainly hop on their website and check it out and see what's available yeah
Starting point is 00:14:48 if it is available i would buy it because it is very cool oh yeah it is it is a sweet quality it's a good tea yeah the quality is there awesome yeah amazing tanner yep okay this is like christmas keep it coming don't stop okay um this next one is a little harder to grab so we've had our sack segment and then had so much cool stuff this week i had to mix a sack segment with a box segment so this is uh what's in the box and when tanner's bringing a box you know it's a party oh Oh, bringing my mic down. This could potentially be the heaviest sack segment that we've ever had. It could be a PR sack segment. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:15:30 I would think it would be, unless someone can remember a podcast that we don't, but it seems to me like it would be a heaviest. And he's reaching. He is reaching. You need to get out of your chair to get that. Ooh, that looks nice. These are always so much heavier when you're not in the gym. Oh, yeah, they are.
Starting point is 00:15:58 Okay. Oh, what I'm crushing my nuts with. Okay. Wow. I'm pretty tired now. Okay. oh what i'm crushing my nuts with okay wow pretty tired now okay this is a 45 pound plate is why i was struggling so so bad i was trying to just remain seated in my chair and pick this up off the ground uh and this is from the strength co if you remember back to episode 241 they made their first appearance in the sack segment they sent us some hats and shirts it's actually wearing the strength co shirt that they sent me the other day in the gym i wore mine yesterday it's a nice shirt it is a nice both
Starting point is 00:16:34 of them actually are nice shirts um we mentioned in the app that episode that what we really need for the sack segment is a pair of their new 45 pound plates and you ask and you shall and we shall receive and that's exactly what he said too and these are sweet i don't know if you want to hold this or not i do actually it has no effect on the recording of this episode but i want to hold it you know do the transfer over here it is crazy how a 45 pound plate in your house feels like the heaviest thing ever it is uh uh i don't know if anomaly is the right word but it's like it's something that like if i didn't know any better i'd be like oh this is that 50 kilo plate yeah the gym i know it really heavy one but it's all about the setting now yeah the 50 kilos yeah those are the yeah yeah the green
Starting point is 00:17:22 110 pound plates yeah it is so dependent on the setting and where you're at as to how heavy those are. These are sweet. Here, I'm kind of looking at the way the light's reflecting off them in the screen there, Tanner. Yeah. So I think... Yeah, that's really cool. I'm probably going to bastardize some of this. And the reason it's okay to bastardize a little bit this when i
Starting point is 00:17:45 describe what's going on here is because what we're going to do is we're going to have grant from the strength co on as a guest soon not this episode well he doesn't know this yet so he will and we'll get actually like fine detail on the process and how these work but these are cast and then prior i have said milled these are not milled these are machined okay that's like a fine difference there is a difference there actually i believe so um and then i think these are e-coated so these are not powder coated okay i don't know the finer points of e-coating either but i do i have that is something i've seen it is a really good looking plate it is sweet and this know, so this edge is certainly machined like this outside edge.
Starting point is 00:18:27 That is, it is a sweet plate. It makes me want a whole gym full of them. And it's okay. I'm going to give it back to you now. Tanner, are you, are you ready for this?
Starting point is 00:18:35 So the, the massonomics gym, not counting the calibrated plates, how many pounds of plates roughly do you think the gym has? About 000 pounds of plates so it has a fair number it has a fair amount of weight in it a lot more than um most home gyms yeah that's right i mean you just wouldn't it'd be quite the home gym as many as a lot of commercial places i would think even right um but of those 5 000 pounds not not counting the calibrated ones are all of the weights used were any of them bought new actually But of those 5,000 pounds, not counting the calibrated ones,
Starting point is 00:19:06 are all of the weights used? Were any of them bought new, actually? I don't think any of them. With the exception of maybe like some fives or tens or something. I don't even know about that. I don't know that any outside of the calibrated set of plates that we have that any of them were bought new. So we have, and we do have a wide, I mean, we got York plates. We got a lot of the like standard Olympic plates, you know, whatever those are.
Starting point is 00:19:27 Yep, that you see in like every gym. Some old brands that I'm not even sure like exactly if they exist or where they came from. Yeah, there's a few of them that are branded. Like Excel. Yes, yes, yes, Excel. Yeah. But these plates win the Style Award hands down. Yeah, they're super cool.
Starting point is 00:19:43 But these plates win the Style Award hands down. Yeah, they're super cool. And another thing we could talk more about with them at the Strength Co. is this center, the hole within the hub of the plate is a tighter, smaller tolerance than a lot. Is it closer to that calibrated yeah when yes when so when you put this on the bar there is much much less slop especially compared to like those like when you said some of those you put on the deadlift yeah it's a quarter of an inch like the the lift that you know is the deadlift because you put it on you could put use like some of those old cheap standard olympic plates on and the bar like the plates are going to be at like a 45 degree angle like you set
Starting point is 00:20:30 one pair of you you load 135 on the bar and like the plates are like all pitch and you can't get the like bar to sit level it's yeah even all around right and these are not that way these are uh and that is a sign of a higher quality plate generally speaking that tighter tolerance because they're within better tolerances they can make it a smaller hole and know that it's still going to fit on the barbells yeah and so these are also made in america yeah that's a huge point and i think is that stamped right up it is molded right made in usa right there yeah they're super cool i really love them when i opened them up i'm like i love these yeah and i wish i had like and also a set of 45 pound plates isn't cheap nowadays no no i mean just this product is specifically right like i mean no and the way not cheap and like can't be found basically like the the demand for plates has gotten so insane
Starting point is 00:21:28 over covid and stuff like that that um used plates are now expensive you know you're paying like three dollars a pound for used plates so i the these are priced fairly i think especially competitive for for your other options of buying quality product. Right. Yes. It's you're not buying a low cost leader product here. And it's obvious when you look at it. Right.
Starting point is 00:21:52 Yeah. These are super cool. Excited to use them at the gym. I'm excited to see those at the gym, but now it makes me want five, six sets. Cause otherwise it's like, I can't just do it on the bar.
Starting point is 00:22:01 It's just like, it's, it's ruining it. When I put these on for one 35 and then you throw the shitty pair on after that like ah my my lift has been yeah yeah that's right yeah they're really cool though well huge thank you to the strength yeah that is one of the cooler sack segments i was gonna say the same thing this is easily in the top i mean it's probably also the top sack segment of all time yeah i'm having a hard time thinking of anything else that wowed us like this another thing that's weird is i'm used to
Starting point is 00:22:29 if i was sitting around with one of the plate old plates from the gym right now my hands would be dirty i need to go take a shower yeah right in this i'm like oh my hands are probably going to be dirty i look at them like oh they're clean that will change the yeah i'm like i've never i've i don't know if i've hardly ever handled a new 45 pound plate in my life yeah yeah those yeah they're cool super cool the machined edge just really gives it a cool look too it does yeah sweet and and it's also just i would mention it's kind of got that traditional styling, like that four spoke with the hub there. Really cool.
Starting point is 00:23:08 I guess I don't know how many times I can say that it's really cool, but it does look really cool. Yeah, absolutely. Now I'm going to try to set it down. Okay, look at him go, people. Look at him go. Oh, he's leaning. All right, we're good good makes a great foot rest for
Starting point is 00:23:26 the episode and rest of the episode too look at you king of the castle over there tanner all right we got a few minutes still we've been knocking things off our list here oh i think i landed last week's episode i think it was last week's teaser i had to give my review of world's strongest man that i had seen on tv so have you seen did you see no i want to it's just a problem i never had what so what is it on still on like that cbs sports or something okay i'm pretty sure it was espn it was on espn yeah it was on espn this year yeah well i don't it might have been espn too i don't know you know you bring up espn the ocho you bring up the channel guide and you just
Starting point is 00:24:05 you see world's strongest man you click on i'm pretty sure it's espn though um you know just kind of that odd random day well is it on christmas or it's a lot of times it's on like it was like that whole christmas weekend i saw quite a bit and i actually had to time it because in my head it felt like it was like a 50 50 split between commercials and the show yeah and then i think i got i think i realized i was just getting really into it and so maybe the show just felt like it was going way faster yeah but because i actually did time it because i did think i was like off on it but it did seem like it was no it wasn't quite as bad as i thought but um i was surprised to see i don't't remember, like in years past,
Starting point is 00:24:46 I think it was probably just bad luck and bad timing, not being able to catch much of anything besides the finals. And in this case, I caught pretty much everything besides the finals. So I saw a lot of the qualifying events. Yeah, all the heats and all that. I shouldn't say qualifying events. I should say the heats of the finals. So it was cool to see the guys do all of their,
Starting point is 00:25:07 just seeing one guy do something really good on one heat and then not so good on the other one. Because when you just catch the finals, you kind of miss out a lot of that. That's true. Just because they're usually just showing the top two or three guys on any given lift. But the production quality seemed pretty solid. You know, Rogue is all over a lot of stuff yeah kind
Starting point is 00:25:25 of fit kind of fat was all over quite a bit of stuff yeah when it would cut to commercials there was a kind of fit kind of fat commercial on tv that would come on okay be cool to have a mass economics commercial on tv you went to someday i was just watching like what would the mass economics commercial be that kind of talks about that anyone would like look at and be like i get what that is and i want that yeah and also like that is also on brand for us right right yeah without going way off of uh oh yeah like yeah i mean we could we could definitely make something that's really cool and like yeah like a commercial you expect people like that's not who those guys are so um i it still just makes me laugh to think
Starting point is 00:26:03 that that could ever be a thing yeah that's not insane no it's not insane it just is really funny like what the hell would right yeah i still don't know like what would just also the fact of like espn being like yeah we need a commercial from you guys like that's also really really funny to think about but yeah and we can have it be whatever we want we're paying for it yeah yep uh but overall it was they were they were very entertaining they were fun to watch you know they do the thing where they talk to all the guys and you know try to get their backstory on stuff but was there anyone that stood out as particularly interesting or uh fun to watch or anything like that like competing or in their back either way either way um i mean robert over his backstory or his story was i think he's kind of talking about
Starting point is 00:26:45 covid and with everything going on you know all that that whole angle which is just funny like hearing that um i you know who for the most part who the guys are so you're not like hearing anything and they're like oh i never knew that about you right right um there wasn't there wasn't a whole lot of that but uh overall entertaining i would recommend it if you could ever watch it tanner i would like to it's just the cable television thing i just yeah you know not where i might be living where i'm living right now it might even have cable television i'm just so like um out of the conditioned on i'm like i don't even like i don't i don't even think about turning a TV on and being like,
Starting point is 00:27:25 well, what's on the... Flip through the old tube here. See what we got. So that is my World's Strongest Man review, Tanner. Oh, I think that's a solid review. I would. Based on your recommendation, I would like to watch it. It actually makes me...
Starting point is 00:27:41 One thing, I think it was in the... Was it in the... I don't think it was in the was it in the i don't think it was in the final finals but in the heats god my days are getting so jumbled around because it was on for so many days and i'm now mixing it up but at one point they did do like an eight stone atlas stone yeah that's a lot of stones yeah um even the finals no the finals was just five yeah no that was the that was the so the way that the heats work there's say four events and then the whoever's in first after the four events automatically qualifies for the finals and the two that are in second and third regardless of how much points
Starting point is 00:28:20 separate them those two go head to head in the stones and whoever wins makes it to the finals and it used to be a stone over bar back and forth yeah which that's a brutal event and yeah i don't know that necessarily last man standing stones um this year they switched that to the eight stone thing but which isn't it still is an interesting concept because you could have someone way ahead of someone else like in second place by 10 points over the third place guy. But then it is. And, and third place guy could be Tom Stoltman.
Starting point is 00:28:51 Yep. And you're like, well, damn it. You know, like shouldn't have came. Yeah. Right.
Starting point is 00:28:57 Right. So it does kind of suck for those people that may have a commanding lead in second, but then you have to go ahead, dad stones on someone. That's a great stone lifter. But I mean, that's just the way, that's the way they've done it so it's not new and yeah the last few years but i do like the eight stone thing is cooler than last man standing stone over bar i
Starting point is 00:29:13 agree uh one other quick thing a follow-up tanner that we i don't think we hinted at this but you and me talked about it there was a video making the rounds on social media quite a bit like two weeks ago of a guy squatting with two pairs of knee sleeves on right and it's just such an odd thing to do right isn't it and was it knee sleeves or knee wraps underneath i heard both i know and to me in the video it looked like knee sleeves but i did hear someone say it was knee wraps underneath but uh because he was kind of like doing like the frankenstein walk even up to the bar a little bit and this is in a knee sleeve division so it's like at all just and it wasn't like a guy going for a 1 000 pound squat world record it was like i don't know it was like a 500 pound squat or something you know like not bad but like man you're cheating for that yeah like that's the that's exactly what i thought too
Starting point is 00:30:06 yeah um what are we what was the goal here i i don't it was also kind of crazy how the ref like called it out to yeah he's like he i i bet the ref had been my thought was like someone tipped the rat off like someone was like yeah guy, something fishy is going on. Check this guy's knee sleeves, you know. Yeah. Because he, it was almost like the ref was just waiting, like, let's get this lift over because then I got you, bitch. Yeah. You know.
Starting point is 00:30:33 Yeah, that's kind of what it looked like. Yeah, yeah. But just hilarious, almost humiliating how the guy had to stand there in front of everyone and pull them down. It's like, the guy in his head is like, maybe these won't be there. Do I run now? Yeah. I be there like what are my options here like could i just just be like sorry no i'm not pulling them down you're just like standing there in a singlet so exposed to the world could you imagine how insanely like the the the blood to the face insanely embarrassed you'd be at that point in time. Like just caught as red-handed as it gets. Yeah, not a spot you want to be.
Starting point is 00:31:10 No. So just don't wear multiple flies of things on your knees. Don't cheat when you go to a meet. Don't cheat to beat someone else by a little bit that nobody actually cares about. Yeah, don't do that. Are we ready for some ads, Tanner? Yeah, I thought we'd never get here. Here we go.

Starting point is 00:33:56 and click on the 2021 sponsorship contest button today tanner can you uh can you like maybe stall for 30 seconds or something um in the last episode this is the first thing that come to mind i mentioned that i'm kind of a record guy now and people got uh got a little bit of kick out of that so i've since even updated my record collection um i guess i'm kind of addicted to buying records right now because like I said before, I am a record guy. Um, I have like every Sturgill Simpson album for anyone that doesn't know Sturgill Simpson. I would recommend looking him up if you are interested in country music,
Starting point is 00:34:37 but it's not necessarily mainstream country music. Oh, you do have a microphone over there. I was just going on something that I knew I could just talk about for a long time well that's uh tanner's record segue um in the ad break now we're gonna go back to our ads okay uh unless tanner unless you wanted to finish no that's i i really don't was i actually i don't know where i was headed with that yeah i was i was having trouble typing i was so into your story there. So the other ads, because there's more ads, Tanner.

Buddy Caps first started lifting weights in the late 60s and began powerlifting in the mid-70s. At the time, he was working for Image Barbell, building gym equipment. Around 1976, a local machine shop started making Olympic bars for them, calling it the Image Bar. In 1977, Image Barbell became Champion Barbell. It was then that Buddy started looking at the bars with an intent of changing them for the better. In 1979, Buddy bought his first lathe to begin addressing the known issues. In 1980, his passion, drive, and purpose now had a greater mission.
Starting point is 00:36:38 Buddy set out on his own to make what he believed was the greatest bar he had ever seen and trained with, and the Texas Power Bar was born. It was strong as a house with the best knurling and was maintenance-free. Hundreds of state, national, international, world, and massonomics powerlifting records have been and continue to be set and broken on the Texas Power Bar. To learn more about Texas Power Bars and buy one of the legendary bars, visit TexasPowerBars.com. Thank you to our sponsors. One other thing that did make me think of is a while back we had gotten uh judd who's as
Starting point is 00:37:06 a south dakota based band that had sent us some uh couple records and some other things i've gotten to since listen to the judd who's album now spin it out and and you know what i had had a passing thought uh as i was listening to them you know what would be cool a massonomics podcast episode on vinyl that would be right that would be cool totally useless uh ridiculous but i do like that actually fits in well with vinyl yeah yeah that would be yeah uh that would be cool i don't know how it probably couldn't even be a full episode like if we'd have to probably yeah can you go much no like i would say it's like usually about five songs a side of a oh yeah per side yeah so there's about 10 songs well but a lot of times i do side a b c and d it's a two two record album yeah um so then in that case you could fit well
Starting point is 00:37:59 if we knew we were going to record it for vinyl we could we could make it fit the format right right right true that's a good point no what if we had a uh like if somebody ever mixed up our intro and we had a if judd who has wrote a wrote and recorded a mass like a massonomics intro like uh that'd be pretty cool or an outro or something like that especially with the south dakota connection you know and and because uh a few of the guys um are you know they're yep into massonomics so they get it you know they can have i could picture like a lift shorts something thrown in there you know a couple things like that that would be funny that would be really cool we might have to work on that yeah we might have to work on that and then and then the vinyl yes good ideas. So that's two great ideas.
Starting point is 00:38:45 Just full of bangers here. Two can't miss ideas. But first we're going to get our guest Tom Callis on the line and I'm going to call him right now. See if he answers. It's probably working.
Starting point is 00:39:06 Hello? Big Tom, can you hear us this time? Yeah, loud and clear. All right, good. Did you hear us the last time? Negative. Oh, okay. I was streaming at you.
Starting point is 00:39:15 Okay. Yeah, we were doing the same. All right, now you are live on the Mastodon from Tanner with Tanner and Tommy streaming live from western northeast South Dakota. Oh, that's my favorite part of South Dakota. North Dakota. It's in the top five places to go in South Dakota, that's for sure.
Starting point is 00:39:36 That's my number one if I ever make it that way, which I probably never will. We're going to now that Finn has that camper, we're going to petition for you guys to load it up someday with you and him and tank and uh anyone anyone and everyone else that you can throw in there from illinois and head over this way that's a good idea we can bring cam yes there you go have them walk around barefoot get that south dakota fan underneath his coat you know yeah
Starting point is 00:40:02 yes uh no we we have been meaning to have you on the podcast for a while but then um we figured after you called us out on it we really had to do it yeah i did that intentionally i got i said watch this week later funny how that works yeah this way I can see if you guys are listening to us oh I don't miss an episode that's a good point actually so the let's get stupid podcast how long have you guys been at it now
Starting point is 00:40:34 we just crossed the year mark so we had like 50 usually I think the same like you guys we shoot for one episode a week and then if we have like an event going on or whatever, we'll do two in a week. But yeah, about a year. So we're at 57th episode last night. So we're chugging right along, man.
Starting point is 00:40:53 And that's really impressive. A lot of podcasts, a lot of podcasts don't even make it to the half year mark, but a year is a pretty awesome milestone in the world of podcasting. Yeah, because that was our thing too. I'm like, well, I like lifting podcasts. I listen to yours. I listen to Mark Bell's for a while. And then I'm like, you'd see some pop up and it'd be like, oh, we had one
Starting point is 00:41:12 in October and then December and then March. I'm like, what the fuck is a consistency? There is none. Yeah, that doesn't work in the long... People don't stay tuned into something when they're randomly one pops up every other month. You know, it doesn't really work.
Starting point is 00:41:27 Right. That's what we said. When we started it, we're like, if we do this, it has to be once a week, minimum. Like every, we pick a day,
Starting point is 00:41:35 every fucking Wednesday night by midnight, we have it out. Like if we're recording till fucking 1130 and I'm uploading on that Wednesday, so be it. But I go, we have to commit to this. Otherwise, we're never going to gain a following.
Starting point is 00:41:46 We're not going to know when the show comes out. No, I think that's spot on. I mean, we found out that exact same thing. How does it feel after a year of doing it consistently like that? Are you having a lot of fun with it? Does it ever feel like work or what do you think? No, dude, me and Finn hanging out has never worked you know drinking shooting the shit half the time we fucking talked for like an hour before the podcast started i go motherfucker we should have put our heads like we fucking missed like a
Starting point is 00:42:14 great hour of content so the only issue we ran into is obviously with covid like we went from like i'm like i built a schedule i had guests line up and then all of a sudden you know it kind of got all shut down. Because we like trying to do the in-person guests, because one, it's funner, because we can either travel or people come to us. Absolutely. So a lot of times, it's like me and Finn, and I'm like, man, I hope we have something to talk about.
Starting point is 00:42:37 And we always fucking at least knock out an hour to two hours every time, like easy clockwork. It's great. Yeah, you kind of just summed up our podcast process too. It's, it's like, yeah, I feel like it's very similar. Yeah. It's like my wife has to be like the podcast episodes a little over an hour. Why does it take you and Tanner four hours to do it? It's like, well, we have to talk for two hours before, and then it takes an hour and a half
Starting point is 00:42:58 to record. And then it takes like another, you know, 45 minutes to wind down afterwards. So it's like, it's a whole nightly process, you know? yeah i always tell her i got one night a week that's time and time and time time this is all right this is our excuse to get away and drink once a week that's right um so you record with huck tom tom finn as huck finn barbell as everyone would know on instagram and everything you know i've maybe you can correct me if this is not correct, but it seems like probably you're a little more organized and have to push some of that stuff on Tom sometimes. Do you ever get in a situation where you get frustrated with him? Has he ever pissed you off with anything like that?
Starting point is 00:43:40 Yeah, I'm definitely the more organized one. I'm basically like, because his wife karen is super organized too so like me and karen are more similar and finn just does whatever finn wants to fucking do that day um but it's like we've been asked that before like man tom does tom piss you off and i'm like every once in a while like especially at the arnold he'll be fucking lollygagging walking like no there's no fucking fast or slow it's just one fucking constant slow shitty speed that he walks at i'm like dude hurry the fuck up man we got shit to do yeah so that's the only time i'll ever get like pissy but as far as like our content together
Starting point is 00:44:15 hanging out like we're always fucking like like best friends you know just every once in a while i get to my nerves because he's just he's got fucking tom finn speed and ain't fast but yeah we have a pretty good dynamic going yeah that work and that makes it a little easier when you got when you got a dynamic you get each other it makes it easy to do this this thing more in the long run too yeah yeah because like i said it's fucking clockwork for us to strike up a conversation for four hours you know something and finn you know finn's kind of old school so like we'll mean him don't text like it's always a phone call. Even if it's like a little thing, it's, hey brother, what are you doing?
Starting point is 00:44:47 I need this. Like it's always a phone call. And then a two second phone call turns into 25 minutes. And then before you know it, you're home and you're driving. Like that's just us. It's always, we've always been for fucking like five, 10 years. So the podcast like almost just made sense. Like why didn't we do this earlier?
Starting point is 00:45:02 Right. We have a lot of fun with it yeah for sure so we're you might know i think you might know about this we're one of the top five lifting podcasts in western northeast south dakota pretty prestigious honor are you serious yeah that's no shit like no shit top five for ease actually the the the phrase is easily in the top five for western northeast south dak. Pretty big deal. You guys also have a pretty prestigious honor, from what I understand. Is it Baharan?
Starting point is 00:45:32 Baharan, yes. Are you top 14 podcast in Baharan? Is that right? At one point, we were, and I was very confused. I go, why the fuck are we trending in Baharan? And then my buddy, he was he was an air force guy and he reached out to me he goes hey there's a there's like a naval or air force base there because i think a lot of the guys that are americans are over there fighting whatever because they listen
Starting point is 00:45:55 i go oh fuck yeah that makes it even better i mean like i'm so happy that all those guys out in baharan are listening to us yeah we're pretty excited about that we try to because usually i don't know about you guys but they'll like the stat company like email us so to like ran a listen to us yeah yeah we were pretty excited about that we try to because usually i don't know about you guys but they'll like the stat company like email us so to like pull up like 56 and baha ran this week i'm like okay keep pumping them out yeah yeah okay we got something to shoot for now yeah yeah we're gonna we're good luck we want to our end goal is to beat you guys in Bahrain. Son of a bitch. How long have you guys been doing it for?
Starting point is 00:46:27 A couple years, right? This is episode 249. So that's almost five years. Holy shit. You guys are veterans. Yeah, we have not missed a week. We've had one new episode a week for 249 weeks. You're actually just one off of making 250,
Starting point is 00:46:43 which probably should have saved you for one more of making 250 which probably should have saved you for one more here yeah i should have blew you guys off yeah that's what she said whoa i like this guy big office man yes so tom we had a i noticed this week on instagram you had a photo it looks like you're just like in some random kitchen and you're with zach efron what what's I noticed this week on Instagram, you had a photo. It looks like you're just like in some random kitchen and you're with Zac Efron. What's the story behind that? So that was my kitchen where I grew up with or at with. I grew up in that house.
Starting point is 00:47:18 And it was weird. Like the movie didn't do too good. It was called At Any Price. It was with Dennis Quaid and Zac Efron and i do not remember that one at all yeah no nobody i didn't even watch it i was i was partly in it because they're like you know like in the background and one of the scenes we were in and they were like hey we're filming this the scene in a cornfield and we're like can we stage some of the like the vehicles and all the equipment at your place and we'll pay you my parents were like yeah whatever we got we have like a five acre farm so we're like my parents like yeah i don't care and they're like hey do you mind if one of our actors stays with you
Starting point is 00:47:51 and they wouldn't really tell us like who so we thought it was maybe actually the backup zach efron's backup was there and he was fucking cool as shit he was fucking drinking beer with us chewing tobacco and then they're like so they wouldn't say who exactly who was coming and we're like okay yeah whatever because they're throwing my parents a bone anyway it's like fuck yeah we'll take it and then shows up at the door with fucking a couple people zach afron knocking on our door i'm like what the fuck then all of a sudden like every girl who ever thought they knew me from facebook was fucking messaging me can i come over can i come back i'm like get the fuck out where here where were you last week yeah
Starting point is 00:48:25 yeah right where were you before he showed up so he ended up he actually stayed in our house for like the whole day like between sets
Starting point is 00:48:33 and stuff like that so he just hung out with us and he's actually great guy we watched Girls Going Wild together real nice guy
Starting point is 00:48:38 just guy stuff you know yeah and so I don't know I don't know what's more interesting about that photo that you,
Starting point is 00:48:45 that you shared it, whether it's Zach Efron in your kitchen or gay without a beard. Yeah, that is a rare sighting. I have not, not, not had a beard for fuck me. And it's been probably every once in a while.
Starting point is 00:48:58 I don't know if you remember at the Arnold, I'd shave it for that Hulk Hogan. Oh yeah. Yeah. We, we, we interviewed you, got you and,
Starting point is 00:49:05 uh, Oh yeah. We got a good interview with that Hogan mustache. Oh, yeah. We interviewed you. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. We got a good interview with that, I think. Yeah, we were screaming in real good context. But yeah, usually, besides I would do that once a fucking year, I would never shave. And then even after that, I'd just trim it down. But I've not had a beard for fucking 10 years. So I don't know.
Starting point is 00:49:26 But one time I trimmed it, and my daughter was like six months at the time. You're scared. And terrified. Oh, yeah, dude. I go, I ain't never doing this again. And then I just haven't done anything since. Can't go changing her whole world like that. Yeah, no.
Starting point is 00:49:40 I go, I just got to keep this going. And now that I started that, kind of like some apparel and stuff, I'm like, well, now I can't ever shave yeah i started a brand we both got a couple of those shirts over here that's a good cool looking and what's the tagline is it uh work working class lifter yeah it was always kind of my my thing was working class lifter working class barbell kind of uh you know play on just you know like i just felt like there wasn't a big big enough like i don't know not name or something but for like the working class lifters and that was just as simple as i came up with so there's no working class lifters and me and dan bell would always
Starting point is 00:50:13 say that too because dan bell is just a drunk mechanic you know he grew up two hours south of me in the middle of nowhere yep so we always kind of ran with it and i'm like i'm gonna throw that in a logo and my tattoo artist was nice enough to make me a nice logo and turn all that, get that shit all set up to print. So just ran with it. And now I can't shave. And now it's hanging in the massonomics gym.
Starting point is 00:50:34 Yeah. We've got the banner hanging up on the gym now and everything. It does look cool though. I like that. That's a, that's a cool, and I like the working class lifter, but that is the thing you do work a pretty,
Starting point is 00:50:44 I mean, you, you work long hours at times, too. And you still manage to get your lifting in and all that. Yeah, and that's when I kind of pride myself on it. Plus, I'm just getting off the job site right now. You know, it's 9 o'clock. I almost couldn't do the podcast. And you made it work to podcast with us still. Yep, I said, I don't care who's out of power.
Starting point is 00:51:06 I have to do the the house without a podcast. All of Chicago is down. I'm just walking around with headphones in, talking. All of Chicago is down. Yeah, but we can't let Western Northeast South Dakota down. Priorities. Yes, that's right. Yeah, but yeah, I just kind of like to push the working working class and you know like my whole thing was always you know you could work a full job have kids and you could
Starting point is 00:51:30 still like you know to motivate people you can still fucking train you can do it i can do it i'm an idiot i do it it's not hard you just don't sleep well and it's true with lifting you know we're the same way and even like say your uh, uh, your train training for others that you do and all that stuff. It's just like us. We both have full-time jobs, but we, if it just all depends on what your priorities are, people will like to say that they don't have time for stuff, but it is more effective. Like, yeah, you, you, you do. It's just what do you want to prioritize it or not? Is it a priority or not? Yeah. And I've always said that too. Like I don't have time for it. No, you do.
Starting point is 00:52:10 Everybody's got time for it. Look at that. My favorite thing is looking at those stats on your phone. Like the iPhone says, yeah, you've had 10 hours of fucking whatever screen time. I'm like, okay,
Starting point is 00:52:22 if you didn't spend 10 hours on your phone, what the fuck could you do with 10 extra hours a week? Like you have time. You just don't want to do anything. There's a huge difference. Yeah, for sure. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:32 So I've always kind of just prided myself on that. And then the fact that then I just try to push it, but some people get like pissy. I'm like, well, you know, I can miss a squat. Cause I must've worked a 16 hour shift that day.
Starting point is 00:52:43 And they make fun of me and shit, but I'm like, Oh man, that's, that's my thing. And, and you know, I always like, Oh man, that's, that's my thing. And, and, you know, I always say, you don't take a, take a walk in my boots for a day and let me know how it goes and go squat. You know, it's just, it's, uh, that's what I get off on. You know,
Starting point is 00:52:59 if I'm not working and doing what I do all the time and constantly staying busy, like I'm sitting around, I feel terrible. You know what I mean? I just like to constantly in motion, always fucking going forward, you know? And we've talked about that too. It's just, it's, it's easier to stay productive. Yeah. To keep the momentum going. Like once it stops, it's like, oh, now what? Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:53:16 The ball is rolling. Don't fucking stop it. Yeah. Yep. That's a, we're, we're the same mentality over here. Yeah. We agree with that for sure. So the other thing then is smart strength official.
Starting point is 00:53:24 You do that with Jacob Ross and I see now uh cowboy cam is in on the team with that how long have you had that going uh so me or should say jacob and i started that in probably march because we were always kind of not complaining to each other but we're always like man people always hit us up for training but you know we didn't really want to do the excel spreadsheets you know there's a really good way to do it how to like, man, people always hit us up for training, but you know, we didn't really want to do the Excel spreadsheets. You know, there's a really good way to do it. How to like, so I always, we always kind of had the same problem and then we just started training together. Um, and we're like, Oh, we both have the same problem.
Starting point is 00:53:55 And he's like, well, there's a popular, now it's more popular. It's an app called true coach where it's like a lot more hands-on approach to coaching, a lot easier to program videos you know you can message your coach anytime like i'm like why don't we just start a fucking training business i go you're pretty smart i feel like i'm pretty smart like let's uh let's put something together so we did and then we thought like okay covid people gyms are shut down and they don't have jobs yeah people are gonna want to pay for training right now i'm like see i don't know if it's like maybe we should wait and just build up i don't know fucking workouts and maybe just you know try to think of other stuff to do with the
Starting point is 00:54:34 business before we release it and then we're like you know what people's got garage gyms people work remotely you know they're kind of just starting to work on that stuff in like march and april so we're like let's just go see what we can get and then it took off like a lot better than we expected uh which was made us happy now it's like that's a lot of fucking work like I'm up every fucking day for three hours before I go to my normal job and then I'm up for another two hours every night another 10 hours on the weekend programming and talking to clients and I'm like holy shit this is really it's almost a little bit too much at times which is kind of of why we started bringing on Cam just as another aid to another coach. Because I always always said, like, keep throwing it at me.
Starting point is 00:55:12 Keep throwing another client, another custom program, whatever. And then I'm like, you know, you get to so many clients, which is a good problem to have that. Are you really getting personal? Do you have a personal relationship with a client? If you have 200 clients to yourself, I guess it's not going to going to happen yeah so i'm like okay we have to split some things up and hire a new guy and so we brought in cam he's pretty knowledgeable he may look like a barefoot buffoon but he's actually really really sharp really smart um and then jacob he's a fucking professional athlete trainer he trained hundreds of nfl, Olympic athletes. His, his, I think most famous ones do all bang.
Starting point is 00:55:46 But so I'm like, yeah, do we, us three together? I'm like, let's just keep this ball rolling. And we've had a lot of fun doing it. It's, uh, it's taken off pretty, pretty well. Is it true that you just have three spots remaining and you need to swipe up for me? I love that. Only two more clients.
Starting point is 00:56:06 You're the third one. Fuck off. It's like bullshit. You're not turning those people down. Nobody's buying that. It's like, I just want to, please. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, but I mean, maybe it's a selling point
Starting point is 00:56:22 because I've seen quite a few bigger name coaches do it. i'm like maybe there is two spots off because i'm like there's a million fucking spots after we have too many clients we'll hire another coach right people in the corner waiting it's like oh man i don't know about this business 101 artificial scarcity right right yeah i better hurry up swipe up now that's right yeah that's hilarious uh is it true that you might you kind of got some insider knowledge on this so you can probably shine better light but did did huck finn kind of steal our idea for silicone pint cups yeah he did i saw that i was telling about that last night i go you know mass and i just got this same cup and i'm pretty sure they had it first buddy that's right actually what happened he texted me we had these cups for quite some time uh i don't know maybe we had had them out for a
Starting point is 00:57:16 year six months i can't remember exactly how long we had had them before him but then he texted and said hey those silicone cups you guys have look really cool i want to maybe make those two is that all right with you guys and we're like sure fine you know we'll give you our blessing yeah you can go ahead and make those two and i think that's if i remember yeah that's how it all played out are you serious that's what happened he did not mention that damn it i don't know i don't trust you South Dakotians. Maybe there's a few details. Yeah, there's something there.
Starting point is 00:57:49 There's something like that. Well, how's that South Dakota cut t-shirt going? We're still working on that. Still R&D. Well, we're talking what is the South Dakota cut going to actually be? And one thing we're looking at is just cutting one sleeve off. It's either one sleeve or you cut them south of the bottom. We can't decide if it's a one sleeve or a crop top.
Starting point is 00:58:11 Well, if you do the one sleeve, you could also sell them a custom headband. And it goes along with it. So you charge five more bucks for the South Dakota cut and five more dollars for the headband. Go ahead and quit those day jobs, boys. You got a new business. That's the perfect plan. Finn was on to something over there, wasn't he? Yeah, he's smarter than he looks.
Starting point is 00:58:34 We've met Karen and talked to her though, too, so we know what the brains of the operation is over there. Oh, yeah. That company would not be nothing. They would fuck that whole thing up without her, 100%. Yeah. It's actually an awesome team because
Starting point is 00:58:51 Karen does all the shit that Finn doesn't want to do and can't do. But at the same time, Karen couldn't be doing that stuff without Finn being fucking fit. It allows him to just focus on him. It allows him to do that stuff, have the freedom to
Starting point is 00:59:07 come up with his wacky shit and execute on all of it. Yeah, and it's working for him. And then keeping everything in-house is pretty cool. How do you guys do yours? Do you guys all sign out? Because obviously you guys both have jobs. There's no way you're doing a podcast
Starting point is 00:59:24 and making all the clothes in your fucking basement no we we don't we don't print the stuff we're actually just talking about that before here how we're actually to point now like if we even if we did i there if we had started doing that i don't know how in the hell we would be getting it done now like at this point we would just say hey family we won't see you this week yeah right right right so we do have a print, you know, we have the printing done elsewhere and, you know, some people have it all all of the fulfillment and everything done
Starting point is 00:59:51 by another company, but we do the fulfillment. We have all the garments sent to us and then we handle all the orders and everything. You know, it can get kind of expensive to pay someone else to do that full part of it and we haven't wanted to go down that road. So we do keep that part of it in-house.
Starting point is 01:00:08 And it's a little more personal that way because we get to be putting each order out there and write notes with it when we want to and say stupid shit to people that we know. And pay attention to who's actually ordering the stuff too. Right, right. Yeah, yeah. No, actually, I like seeing that because that's basically – I've been doing mine on a much smaller scale than yours uh because it just started doing you know the logo and the t-shirts like a couple months ago but uh yeah i would suggest the same thing like oh there's
Starting point is 01:00:33 these websites where people just order their side and then they're made one at a time right yep and i'm like yeah i mean one your profit margin is so small yeah i guess almost paying everybody yeah right and then it's like there's no i'm like i don't mind putting up the money you know and if i gotta sit on some stuff for a while to make it back and like it's not a big deal and i'm like yeah it's personally to see who the order comes in it's kind of you know the first time we did it i had the whole fucking living room laid out and we're having this fucking the old lady and and hayley filling bag and stuff but this is kind of cool you know i mean it's not huge it's like this nice little side thing to do
Starting point is 01:01:04 and it pushes our training because it pushes people to the website. But I'm like, it's just kind of nice to do it in house. And like, like you guys with the letters, you know, people post about it. Right. Yes. A hundred percent. Yeah. Wrote a free letter.
Starting point is 01:01:16 Now you got more business because you know what I mean? It's just, you're not going to have that if you outsource everything. Yep. Yep. Yep. I agree with that completely. But yeah, Karen does do all the printing there. So is it right
Starting point is 01:01:28 kind of related to that? Is JB Boss, are they no longer going to be up and running? Yeah, they turn their hats in and I think Boss has other businesses and ventures. This is basically his hobby. He'd go to the Arnold
Starting point is 01:01:44 and sell some stuff to cover his costs and just have fun and party with us you know and that was kind of his thing he'd go to meets and do the same thing he just liked to travel and meet the people and you know tire lifting is you know it's a super small percentage of the population that's super small i think oh yeah in the past probably five years the popularity is really gained like when i started there was like a woman lifting maybe maybe one maybe two now you have a whole day of women lifters at meets or just as many guys as women and the women are fucking you know i can name off the stephy cohen hunter henderson like these fucking freaks out of nowhere like holy shit like that wasn't five years ago ten years ago especially when i started i'm like this thing that was never there um so bosses you know he got behind all that and then were able to come to the meets and see how the people watch kind of the sport evolve and grow and then
Starting point is 01:02:32 i don't know because of covid maybe and maybe he couldn't travel as much he's like well this is why i did it to travel and now he's like i can't do it so calling it quits but it sounds like finn's gonna be doing some jb boss special shirts every once in a while so i think the name will still live on for sure yeah that's cool that he's uh that he's keeping it around a little bit like that yeah because he's gonna have all the screens and stuff and karen can fucking you know just swipe the ink and it's done so everything's already based that that's the easiest part i believe in the whole process so yeah it'd be cool that finn will still be you know and Boss were fucking...
Starting point is 01:03:05 Boss is the one who got Finn started doing their own shirts. It's kind of cool to see it come full circle. Yeah, for sure. Right on. How about you, lifting-wise, are you going to be competing in the hybrid deal down in Miami? Is that your plan?
Starting point is 01:03:20 I'm going to try. Things are not going so well. i popped i had like six small pops in my right quad about four weeks ago when i was squatting out of the hole like i just came out and i just heard like a fucking little ripple and went on my leg i'm like oh this ain't fucking good so i'm like well whatever maybe you know my thing was it was six small it wasn't one big so this is good it's a good thing you know what i mean it's wasn't one big. So this is good. It's a good thing. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 01:03:46 It's not one large tear. So I'm like, well, maybe it's just a bunch of small stuff. And within a week, I was able to squat the bar again. Then I was able to squat mid threes again. Okay. A couple weeks later, then I had another pop in my leg two weeks ago. I'm like, what the fuck, man? Then I rehabbed it.
Starting point is 01:04:03 Luckily, Jacob's like a fucking whiz at rehabbing. So he's been rehabbing me, got me back up. Now I'm back into the fours, low fours. And I'm like, well, here's my thing. I wrote out a plan to basically squat essentially 75 pounds more every week. If I can do that until hybrid, I can probably put up a decent squat of 750. So I'm not going to be 100%, percent, but it would be respectable for my wall for a one 98 or, but if there's any setbacks to me,
Starting point is 01:04:31 it's, it's not about being tough and pushing through and squatting 600 with a bad leg. Like, no, it's a big meat. I'm going to go there. I'm not going to be even close to my best.
Starting point is 01:04:41 And if that's the case, why would I take that spot from another good lifter so if it does come down to that and things aren't really i'm not even if i'm not even 90 i'm probably gonna pull out and just coach cam and dan bell there um and then let let another lifter who would be on pro day would take my spot you know give my feet to that let them fucking compete and i'll just hang out and help with all the lifters you know i just don't think't think it's worth it to me. And plus what, you know, if I really got to push myself to the extreme and I tear something again, okay, start all over, you know, that gets a little old. Yeah. It is, it is the thing of living to living to lift another day. It's a, it's a better
Starting point is 01:05:18 approach in the long run. Yeah. And I've come to know that like, you know, the first 10 years of lifting or powerlifting, I get away with a lot of stupid shit you know squatting on top of leg press steward yeah yeah a lot of things and nothing's breaking now it's like you got to really be careful and then watch more of this minor details so they don't have major problems i'm learning that as i go along with the sport i I'm like, yeah, I may be going to be 28. I'm like, but I've been fucking powerlifting for 10, 12 years now. I'm like, I really got to pay attention to the little shit so I can get back to 100% again. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:54 Talk about that squatting on top of the leg press. What was your favorite kind of crazy video that you ever got involved in? That one was definitely most popular. And it was tough but to me our toughest video which didn't get a lot of credit because i think we fucked up and we released it on valentine's day and then maybe when people weren't on their phones so the timing was bad there's a lot of weird shit with instagram that you just can't you know like that you can just get screwed on and that you're not expecting yeah Yeah. So me and Finn, we, we set up this whole Valentine's day post, yada, yada,
Starting point is 01:06:30 but the lift was, I had two 25 or three 15 on my back or something. And Finn squatted me and then got onto a stair master. So he was doing the stair master with you know i was you know whatever 200 pounds with another two three hundred while those things moving and he's doing and i was squeezing him so tight and that's up in the air you know yeah and we're fucking i don't know the barbells at least probably 12 feet off the ground right so at that point and then i'm squeezing him so tight when we had like one or two takes and he like was like literally dizzy at the end of it, like almost falling over. Cause I was trying to fucking stay tight.
Starting point is 01:07:08 Cause if I got loose, we're fucked. He got loose. We're fucked. So we're just like pushing through. We did the video. We're like, Oh dude,
Starting point is 01:07:14 the leg press one got like 5 million views out of, out of all the different sites we put it on combined. I'm like, Oh, this is going to be better. And we got like 20,000 views. It's just not worth it yeah it's like impossible to predict though no it is impossible like the stuff that you think is not like that
Starting point is 01:07:32 be like i don't know maybe it's all right it could just go wild and then other stuff you're like yep home run and then nothing yeah that's how it was when we started like a lot of them were just fucking it was just hitting home runs for us yeah and then sometimes like this isn't that great and then they do awesome and then vice versa you put a lot of time into it and then about i don't know i think about three years ago instagram's algorithms changed and me and finn would go from getting like half a million views on shit and you know gaining the followers and all the bullshit on instagram to like 20 000 50 000 maybe 100000, maybe a hundred. We're like, how did, you know, the following doesn't change and it's going, it keeps going up or stays the same. How are our views getting cut by a tent?
Starting point is 01:08:11 Yeah. This doesn't make any sense to us. And then ever since then we like, and then we both keep getting injured. So we probably don't do as much stupid shit, but I'm like that I'd like to do the stupid shit again. If it would fucking pay off a little bit. Yeah. It's funny to eat the people that even just choose to follow. You aren't really seeing your stuff anymore the people that already said yes i want to follow this person and see what their stuff what they have like it's not getting in front of all of those people even anymore yeah i don't understand how anything works but if i talk about fucking uh some flowers i want to buy for my wife i can't stop swiping on it i talk about flowers i thought about flowers now they're in my instagram feed how did this happen
Starting point is 01:08:55 yeah it's fucking weird they're always listening i guess whatever you know that's a whole different conspiracy theory that if you ever have cowboy cam on he could dive into about three hours probably what What was one of those rankings? What was the, the gym that you guys always used to lift at back in the day when you were doing like those where the Lillibridges and stuff lifted out? That was barbell central. Okay. Yeah. So were those guys cool with you guys? Like just doing dumb stuff? Oh, the owner loved it, man. Do whatever you want want light it on fire fucking run around truck blues i don't care he fucking you know let's do anything we wanted
Starting point is 01:09:28 what happened to that place i don't think he paid the bills the building was like leaking all the time because there were buckets everywhere and then all of a sudden it wasn't a gym anymore so how long ago was that that it went out that was probably four years ago it was okay i was wondering if just you guys all left or if there was like more to it than that but yeah it was basically that gym kind of went and then kind of everybody went their own ways and at that time i started building my garage gym and i'm like you know what like especially then i just started having my first daughter and i'm like yeah no, I can't really be working 10, 12,
Starting point is 01:10:06 16 hours a day. And then I'm coming home and then going to the gym for three hours. I go, I can't wait to get divorced. If I keep this up. Then I just started training, training in my basement or my garage, whatever kind of house I was at.
Starting point is 01:10:19 And then, and then Cam started to come with me. So he said I have a spotter and stuff. And then, yeah, ever since then, me and Finn, both, we just kind of built our own things and we just And then, yeah, ever since then, me and Finn both,
Starting point is 01:10:25 we just kind of built our own things and we just trained. But me and Finn, we're tighter than two coats of paint, but we never trained together. Just because he likes his gym, I like mine. I don't want to leave. He's going to see. So I'm glad we did. But then ever since the gym went down and stuff,
Starting point is 01:10:39 everybody kind of just went and did their own shit in different places. Right on. Tom, we've got this little game we like to play with everyone. It's called Overrated and Underrated. We've got a special set of Tom Callis topics here. Are you down to play? Are you serious? Yeah, we've pulled out all the stops
Starting point is 01:10:55 for you this time. I'm serious and heart attack. Let's go. So you just got to answer Overrated and Underrated. You can't ride the line in between. You got to pick an answer even if you might want to ride the line in between. And there's some doozies here, so I hope you're strapped in. My seatbelt's on. I'm ready to go.
Starting point is 01:11:14 Okay, perfect. Good. Okay. Topic number one, overrated or underrated, Tombstone the movie. Overrated, man. Look at people paying me in my Venmo for me to watch it, and I still might not watch it. And I'm going to keep the $3
Starting point is 01:11:29 that they sent me. So you still haven't seen Tombstone? No. Well, you know, and my old lady is gone in Florida for a couple weeks, so I'm like, you know what? I got some time. Maybe I'll throw on Tombstone. I'll put a fucking floppy
Starting point is 01:11:45 piece of shit jack's pizza on the bazaar put on tombstone pour myself a coffee and have a nice little night I go it might happen if it does I'm gonna put it on Instagram uh is Dan Bell kind of keep an eye over your wife in Florida if you know what I mean yeah he's probably trying to trim my bushes he was over there the other night at midnight giving her her favorite wine. I don't know about that guy. That old snake in the grass. You gotta watch out for him. I know, man. He's good, dude.
Starting point is 01:12:14 He's actually keeping an eye on it. They actually ended up getting a place like 10 minutes from his house. So it works out. He'd do a great job of scaring away any humans, animals, anything. Yeah, house so it works out he'd do a great job of scaring away uh oh god fucking humans animals anything yeah fucking fucking refrigerator coming at you with fucking legs yeah anybody's gonna run and that voice
Starting point is 01:12:35 yeah that's right um tommy have you seen Tombstone ever before I've never seen the whole thing of it it was one of those things we started when we were like drinking beer and then eventually you know the beer drinking takes over so I've never seen the movie in its entirety okay not a bad movie it's not a bad
Starting point is 01:12:58 I've heard nothing but good things about it it's not a bad movie okay well we're gonna maybe I going to find out next week. We'll stay up to date on Let's Get Stupid Podcasts and find out. Yeah, right. Overrated or underrated? Cadillacs.
Starting point is 01:13:17 Underrated, for sure, dude. I mean, you can go any year, right? Right now, I'm cruising in an 01 DeVille with three windows. Most comfortable car i might have seriously i might have ever been in and i have don't tell anybody this but i have a 2020 cadillac two brand new one oh honestly i like this one better as far as comfortability now if i put the pedal down this thing it will putter out and die immediately it happened to me one time i was
Starting point is 01:13:43 trying to i was leaving the city from work and i go oh i gotta get through this green light i'm like oh i'll just punch it it's got a v8 that's he's in a hall i punched it bunch of blue smoke came out white smoke it fucking puttered out and then like i started back up i'm like okay she's back in game i'm on the interstate in chicago everybody's going 80 i'm going 45 in the middle of it with my hazards on because my car won't go any faster so when that happens that kind of sucks but if you just baby her i fucking love this oh wunderville i might get an o2 i'm thinking about it but upgrading yeah we'll see what happens with the podcast get some more sponsors maybe get a cadillac yeah is the 20 uh 2020 is it a suv or no it's the ct4 okay it's like a sports car or whatever i don't know i barely
Starting point is 01:14:27 travel i think my wife drives it all like more than i do for sure she drives she likes it i don't know you know women and fancy cars yeah they have a thing for it i'm over here with the old wallet and a fucking three window car i've always been a bit of a buick guy myself uh give me an a nice mid-2000s buick leSabre and drive for miles. Hell yeah. I used to have a Lincoln Town Car, too. It was a 99. Oh, dude. 225 sweet turns on the dash, and that
Starting point is 01:14:53 thing floated like a fucking cloud, man. Plus, no one ever knows if you're a cop or not. You got that thing going. With this Cadillac, I kind of look like a drug dealer with the window missing and I got the windows 5% tinted so I just put golf stickers all over the back
Starting point is 01:15:09 of it and they just think I'm an old man with bad eyes yeah there you go everybody leaves me alone yep yep yep okay overrated and underrated we know you're kind of a working man and this is a working man clothing overrated or underrated car heart overrated too pricerated car heart?
Starting point is 01:15:25 Overrated. Too pricey, you know? It's fucking like the Louis Vuitton of fucking work clothes, man. I got fucking old fucking work pants with holes in them. I don't even know what brand they are. Don't bother me. I ain't know what's a fucking car heart. That's like those guys with the pickups that have never seen dirt. They work on daddy's farm.
Starting point is 01:15:46 It's all daddy's money wearing brand new car hearts. I don't believe in it. Don't believe in it. Plus, as far as their jackets, I don't know about you guys in the Dakotas, but I never wear a fucking jacket. Always sweatshirts. Never a fucking full jacket, ever. It gets pretty cold here.
Starting point is 01:16:02 I personally do like to ride out sweatshirts as long as i can but when it's like 30 below it's just it's the difference between living and dying sometimes yeah yeah yeah yeah well like last year i think it was in 19 the year before maybe it was a winter up in chicago where i was literally i was it was i was on a back shift at work so i'd come in at 2 p.m and i'd be off at 6 a.m so i'd do 16 overnight and it was like negative like probably 10 20 it's not as bad as your guys's but the wind chill was like negative 50 and i would be up in the air and my eyelids would freeze together and i guess what no jacket
Starting point is 01:16:38 yeah that's cold as shit yeah that's a tough one like when you're snow blowing your driveway and you come in and like everything's frozen your mustache and beard is just like a block of ice from like snot running down your face yeah that's my favorite look I come in and I show my wife that's a hard working man
Starting point is 01:16:59 and then she gets to put me to bed and kiss me you know give you a little kissing. Yeah. Let that beard thaws out. Clean up them boogers, maybe. Okay, last one, and this one's probably the most important one, so don't mess it up.
Starting point is 01:17:16 Overrated, underrated, Tito's vodka. Underrated, for sure, dude. Because you go to a bar, usually always have titos but everybody thinks the fancy ones like uh what's the fuck what's the other fancy with the tall bottles like gray goose yeah belvedere maybe or something i'm like they think that's top shelf but top shelf is titos man ain't nothing smoother than titos love that stuff trying to get sponsored by it's just why i keep talking about it so much actually I got six handles from the guy who directly knows the owner up in Wisconsin where is Tito's from Wisconsin or Illinois or something or
Starting point is 01:17:54 well the owner I believe is from Austin I know it's just out of Austin but he's got a lake house in Lake Geneva so they're like buddies with the guys in the bars in the gym up there and they know him really well so he gave me six handles for my fucking bachelor party. Or not my bachelor party, my wedding. It's my wedding up there. Okay, so you got the in there. By far my favorite vodka. Yeah, I'm trying. Work that angle. Where is Tito's priced?
Starting point is 01:18:15 Like if you're buying a mixed drink, is it moderately priced? I think it's kind of just below Grey Goose, isn't it? Yeah, I don't think it's like, it's not crazy expensive. Where I live now, to me, it's yippy. It's a little bit more than it should be,
Starting point is 01:18:32 but I think usually a Tito's and tonic would be like $6 to $8, which is not bad. It's usually top shelf, I think like $10. I don't know. I don't really go out and drink a lot, so whenever I drink, it's not, I'm like, well, is this one $2 cheaper? I bet you're like, I'd like to see a menu.
Starting point is 01:18:52 I get that. I agree with that. Like I also don't go out and drink all that much. So when I do, I'm like, yeah, I want whatever the hell I want. Like, let's make it enjoyable. Right. Like I might make it to a bar with my friends once a month. Maybe.
Starting point is 01:19:06 I'm just going to drink. I want Tito's. If you have Diet Dr. Pepper, I'll give you the biggest tip ever, but most people don't. Yeah. Because nothing settles me down like a good coffee. You know what I mean, boys? Amen. Yep.
Starting point is 01:19:21 You guys had that? You guys need to try it. Tito's and Diet Dr. Pepper. You ever had that in your life? I never. Tito's and what and Diet Dr. Pepper you ever had that I never Cheetos and what Diet Dr. Pepper that's what I call coffee okay oh you call that oh I have had that like once or twice okay I never
Starting point is 01:19:35 have and then you stopped you never did it again you know that that was yeah that was about it I guess maybe I maybe I need to come at it with fresh eyes a fresh palate yeah I don't think I don't think you drank that right I i i gotta you know that catches me off guard because i'm more used to like uh clear liquor more often being with um not necessarily clear pop but like that's like that clear goes with clear and almost like whiskey goes with coke dark yeah yeah yeah because with like lemonades right juices and sprites.
Starting point is 01:20:05 I agree. I was the same way. I go, oh, you keep clear with clear and you're in the clear. You don't put dark pop with fucking clear alcohol. And then I did it once and I go, holy fuck, I'm a genius. And then Finn took it and he thinks that he came up
Starting point is 01:20:21 with it, but he did not. It's just like the damn silly pints all over again. Right? This guy is a fucking fish, man. Yeah. Well, great news, Tom. You passed overrated and underrated. Thank you.
Starting point is 01:20:34 Oh, thank God. I was getting nervous. I was sweating over here. You walked away with it. So with that, you are now invited to the next time you're in western northeast South Dakota, you can let us know and you'll get a free day pass to the massonomics gym. Yeah. Worth big, big retail value on that, actually. So you're coming out like a bandit. All right. I'll bring the Tito's and diet after pepper. We'll call it either. All right. No, we that's awesome. We appreciate you coming on and
Starting point is 01:21:00 it was probably overdue. So glad you brought it up again and got our asses in gear and got you on here. Yeah, no problem. Next time I feel like I should be on, I'll just bring it up in our pond. That's right. That's right. And next time we're in IL, we'll make sure to stop by on our way through. Yep. Gym membership's only 20 bucks a day. So for of you for you guys 35 for both of you oh perfect excellent all right well thanks thanks for having me on guys i appreciate it man i like talking to you guys and missing at the arnold so yeah yeah because nobody was there so hopefully that happens again someday uh we can do that again and i guess one more plug you know check you out uh on instagram and everything and smart strength official where do the what's what if they want to sign up for that sort of thing do they catch you through instagram or website or what's the best way yeah you can hit
Starting point is 01:21:51 me up at time one on instagram number one because i'm number one um or smart strength official uh that's marching official or smart strength official.com we do template programming you know for like a cheaper 29 bucks you get a month template and i you For us, we think that you're probably not going to see workouts like these because we do things a little bit differently, but we do it for a reason. And then if you're into custom programming, one-on-one with a direct coach, we only have two spots left. Swipe up. Swipe up.
Starting point is 01:22:18 Hit us up. And like I said, we're always taking clients, and we truly believe the customized approach is the better approach as far as just – even if – our program is really great, but having be able to like bounce off of a coach or somebody who's been in the game for a while i think that's you know that pays for itself you know just in itself just having access to a coach uh for any questions that they have and so if anybody signs up for it for mass dynamics podcast make sure you guys you know utilize that yeah it's a big plus to me you know know, be able to talk like,
Starting point is 01:22:45 you know, if you sign up for a big time coach, sometimes you just get a program and then you don't talk to him for 12 weeks. Right. You know, ours is they fucking can basically text us anytime they want and we get back to them. So I think we got something good. Right on.
Starting point is 01:22:58 Yeah. Awesome. Well, that's good stuff. We'll catch you later, Tom. Thanks a lot, Tom.
Starting point is 01:23:03 We'll see ya. Okay. Bye. Mr. Tom Callis. stuff we'll catch you later tom appreciate it guys thanks a lot tom we'll see you okay bye mr tom callous mr callous plug this didn't disappoint no it's kind of is funny to me to think that he hasn't been on until now yeah i know and he's on our he was on our list that's just one we we just have really oh also first of all what did you rate what do you rate that interview back it up yeah there we go it's not really about it it says yeah the interview really isn't wrapped up now yeah now it's done and we can reflect on what just happened yeah um yeah we just have a had a long list of people we got to get on here and it's just which is good it works in our favor.
Starting point is 01:23:45 We just need to start podcasting three days a week, Tanner. That would take care of that problem, wouldn't it? Wouldn't that be quite the life? Can you imagine if we did the Mathsonomics podcast every morning for an hour? Just think if it made enough money where that was worth it. That'd be pretty fun if it made so much money that it's like, yeah, this is our best use of time is to just do this every day and get this put out day i guess the best use of our time is to just talk for an hour every day oh god yeah
Starting point is 01:24:09 prep for an hour talk for an hour spend two hours getting ready get it out there and i could do it yeah we could we could come up with the content to fill that hour someday oh yeah i mean it seems crazy to think that you could for that much but oh I mean, what are we doing? What are we coming up with here? We figured it out, you know? Yeah. Oh, that's what that reminded me of something funny that I didn't list.
Starting point is 01:24:32 I didn't catch it on the local radio. I know you don't listen to the local radio at all either. I know what you're going to say here. Go ahead. Maybe, you know, is it what Ross said about podcasting? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:24:41 Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. That's, that's who, yeah. Ross from the gym brought it up.
Starting point is 01:24:44 Yeah. That, what was it that, that Aberdeen is kind of becoming a hotbed for podcasting is that generally what he said that's basically yeah what i okay yeah uh i thought that was funny he said whoa not aberdeen western northeast yeah like first of all like get your geographical regions people need to know where we're talking about and uh not sure if that's factually an accurate statement either but i'm like i don't know ours is mildly successful for the niche that we're involved in yeah yeah uh yeah so stay tuned for more more western
Starting point is 01:25:19 northeast podcast success hopefully don't get bumped out of the top five oh man that would if we were off those chart if we got kicked out of those charts we'd be in trouble that would be depressing yeah we kind of have hung our hat on that for quite some time now been our calling card right uh is there we we talked about all the new stuff that people need to buy that was yeah probably the more most important thing yeah the most important thing is that they check on that right now because who knows how long this could be around. So don't wait. As far as the podcast goes, tell a friend if you enjoy listening,
Starting point is 01:25:52 if this is your first time, if you listen. Yeah, that is a good point, Tanner. Tell a friend about the podcast. We'd love to see the numbers continue to grow. The numbers of the podcast, just to give you a peek behind the curtain, do continually grow. They do. It's like almost always generally going up, but we're just greedy and we just want to see them go up faster
Starting point is 01:26:09 yeah and the youtube's seen some fairly decent growth uh with the new setup compared to some of the older videos so that's nice to know that um it looks like people are appreciating or at least paying off in some way at least that more people are watching they didn't go down so that's yeah right right that's a good step yeah but we would like to see it more so if you know buddies that are into this sort of thing you could turn them on to it or share it uh so one of the funny things that people have been doing is sharing the show notes which yes those are great i love those like people have been taking a screenshot and putting their summary in an instagram story uh we do like those lines and
Starting point is 01:26:43 it's usually something that catches me. Some of it takes shots at us even and I think that's funny. It's like, yeah, we are dumb. Yep. So keep doing that. And then if you really like us, you could sign up to become a supporting member
Starting point is 01:27:00 of the podcast, of course. And you can do that at massonomics.com slash join there's the four different levels the let me get this right the apple pie level the lacroix level the lift shorts level and then the lift platinum club level platinum club level and of course you can mix and match those any way that you want to or double up or triple yeah you can you could literally give us like a hundred dollars a month to be a supporting member. I mean, I wouldn't just, I would not discourage it. Give us $2,000 a month if you wanted to. Yeah, I wouldn't discourage any of those things.
Starting point is 01:27:31 You could just even do that for one month and then that'd be fine. Your one-time gift. Is that about it? I think that's about it. Okay. Oh, leave us a review would be the one other thing. We're hot and heavy on the road to 300. I think as of we're at 284 we're 16 out from 300 wow we better get our our butt in gear here tanner we got planning to do that that's right yes we do yes yes we do uh okay
Starting point is 01:27:59 where do they find you at then time you can find me at tomahawk underscore d you can find me at tanner underscore baird but much more importantly make sure to follow us at massonomics see you
