Starting point is 00:00:00 You know, thanks for what you do with your podcasts and all the rest. You're doing a great job. I hope everybody keeps tuning in. You get a lot of good info, a lot of insights, understandings on how to get strong, how to stay strong, how to use your strength. You do a great job, dude. You make things better than they are in real life, I think.
Starting point is 00:00:16 If you don't follow Massanomics, y'all do it. Social media, website, everything. Massanomics! Here we are, everyone, for episode 283 of the Massanomics podcast, the lifting podcast about nothing. My name is Tanner. And my name is Tommy. Do either of us know why 283 is special this week?
Starting point is 00:00:45 If you give me enough time, I'll find a reason to make it special, Tanner. Andre Rison might have worn 83 in football. Plus 200. Andre Badmoon Rison, as they call them. So we're here for 283. We've got a number of topics. Big news in the powerlifting world. Big news in massonomics world. Sack segments, can segments.
Starting point is 00:01:06 A cool guest. Probably some reviews some we've got reviews ready we've got of course an overrated underrated segment uh newsflash we're going to do an overrated underrated this week this isn't the week that the streak's going to break i was thinking uh maybe something i'll work in sometimes is just uh even in the middle of the show or in this part of the show, I'll ask you just like a pop over and over. Because I don't really ever get to ask you overrated, underrated anymore like the good old days. Yeah, it's been a long time. Just do like surprise overrated, underrated.
Starting point is 00:01:37 Like just single questions. A single one-off, yeah. Okay, that could be fun. I mean, now you kind of ruined the surprise though. So I'm going to have my guard up the whole time. When's he going to do it? Yeah, I'm just sitting over here on edge. Now maybe that's the thing I'm never going to do.
Starting point is 00:01:51 Just all this extra anxiety every episode for nothing. Yeah. Are you ready for a little history lesson? If there's one thing I learned, I love. It's a good new history lesson. Before anyone tries to skip past this this is a brand new never before heard on the massonomics podcast history lesson timeline exciting stuff let's do a deep dive here okay in the early 80s merit shikris was born during a
Starting point is 00:02:20 snowstorm in the soviet union in the lady That sounds like the intro to a movie already. Actually, and before I get too far into this, what I'm going to do is, Merritt told me how to pronounce his name. Because he knows there's like a thousand percent chance Tanner's going to say it wrong. Well, I'm pretty sure I've said it wrong multiple times, and he did it in a voice message. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:02:42 So is there volume for the voice message here? Okay, we should be good. This is to make sure you guys can all check and make sure I'm doing it right then. Marat Shikris. Marat. Marat Shikris. Okay. Okay. Now that we got our facts straight. Gonna start over now that I... Yeah, now that you know Marat Shikris. Okay. In the early
Starting point is 00:03:00 80s, Marat Shikris was born during a snowstorm in the Soviet Union. In the late 80s, Marat, along with his parents and sister, escaped communism and found their way to freedom in the United States of America. Throughout the 90s, Murat played ice hockey and first entered the weight room to train for his sport. But really, he just bench-pressed a lot, which turned out to not help in his sport at all. In the early 2000s, Marat's competitive hockey days came to an end due to injuries and probably just not being good enough to go on. But his love for the iron was born. With no YouTube or Instagram to guide him, every day was chest and arms day.
Starting point is 00:03:37 As with many others in the area, sketchy pre-workouts and disgusting protein powders were a normal part of life. In 2011, Marat walked into a CrossFit gym, learned how to squat, and ditched most supplements. In 2013, an old and recurring back injury reared its ugly head, forcing Murat to have spinal fusion surgery. Recovery was long, but Murat was determined to get back to doing what he loved, lifting weights. In 2019, fully recovered and now powerlifting in his garage, Murat switched to early morning training sessions and the pre-workouts entered his life once again. Completely dissatisfied with anything he tried, Murat thought to himself,
Starting point is 00:04:14 I can do this better. And better he did. Using full doses of studied and effective ingredients, Fusion Sports Performance was born with Super Soldier pre-workout. Staying true to doing this better, he vowed to never use proprietary blends because as a consumer, he felt the need to always know what's in his supplements. Since the creation of Super Soldier, the Fusion line has also gone to include Healing Factor post-workout, their 100% whey protein, Ice Light, and Mad Titan high-stem pre-workout. All orders are protected by a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can be sure Fusion will leave you satisfied.
Starting point is 00:04:48 That's what she said. Go to FusionSP.net right now and use code MASS, M-A-S-S, in all caps to say a massive 20% on your entire order. Woo! That's the Marat Shikris FusionSP.net timeline. Wow, that was good. We got our timelines, don't we? There's one thing we know here.
Starting point is 00:05:10 It's a good timeline. And, of course, once again, that will be on the test. All of those dates. The big test that we have lining up here. Which update? We've got a lot of updates to cover. I've got an update. I really, I've said this several times
Starting point is 00:05:27 i really like our latest drop the raw power shirt especially my wife was kind of getting on my case because i wore it too many days in a row i'm like no i just can't take it okay i didn't go anywhere for like a day or two so i can just wear it around the house and then i did laundry and then i was going somewhere like i can wear it now i did laundry it's a it's a fresh start so uh that one is just really one of my favorites right now i don't have the raw power one and we sold out of my size actually okay i won't have i won't have the raw power one until we until we have more um i my collection certainly doesn't rival big john jonathan oldham. That was absolutely shocking. We were talking about this before the show.
Starting point is 00:06:09 I never even know we made that many shirts. Big Jonathan had all of his Masonomics gear spread across his bed and hanging from the wall. And it was like, no, we've never made that many items. Where did these come from? And how many things did he have all together? Did you say like 50 some? I think there was 50 t-shirts. See, if you would have told me all time t-shirts we would have made,
Starting point is 00:06:30 I would not have guessed 50. I thought it'd be, I'd for sure say a little under 50. And there's probably a couple things missing there out of the, you know, out of everything we've ever done. That's, I don't have that many things. That's for sure. That is a lot. His wife, I think, was getting on him about reducing his T-shirt collection.
Starting point is 00:06:48 He said he didn't know that he could bear to really get rid of any of the Massanomics ones. You've got to have, like, a Massanomics dresser just to. You would have to. And then the comments on that post is, like, the Massanomics shirts stay on the bed during sex and things like that. They're so funny. Yes.
Starting point is 00:07:05 Those are really good. Breaking news. Johnny Candido has officially agreed to come on the Mathsonomics podcast. That was one of those things when I saw that. And this isn't a joke. Yeah, I think we, did we record, was it last Wednesday or last Thursday night?
Starting point is 00:07:20 Did we record? I think it was last Wednesday. Yeah, it must have been last Wednesday. But I think it was the next day we woke up and it was shortly after we had the Discord going, which we'll talk more about Discord here in a minute. And I think that's where I think it was last yeah it must have been but I think it was the next day we woke up and it was shortly after we had the discord going which we'll talk more about discord here in a minute and I think that's where I saw it for the first time was in discord and I for sure thought someone made a really good meme because these guys because the guys in the discord and the one or two gals yeah they know how to put a put a fire meme together but I thought for sure
Starting point is 00:07:41 now we're getting roasted here right away in the morning, but it was the real deal. Like Johnny Candido apparently came out of nowhere and decided to get this going. Let's see. I had, yeah, he must've posted that fairly late on a Wednesday night because I was up way later Wednesday night than I normally would be. And I woke up,
Starting point is 00:07:58 I had like, we had like in the massonomics, we had like 15 DMS about, you know, people sharing that Candido or sending us that Candido story. And I'm like, holy crap, it must be real. Is it actually happening?
Starting point is 00:08:13 It's like the fairy angel came in our sleep. Sprinkled this little dust on us. So we did talk to Johnny a little bit. It'll probably come later in September maybe,. Tentative timeline as of now. But he is going to be on the Masonomics podcast. And boy, that'll be a doozy, won't it? It should be fun. Question number one.
Starting point is 00:08:33 It's going to be a major letdown. It'll be like this. All right, Johnny. Question number one. Who the hell do you think you are? Number two. What gives you the right? Wouldn't it be funny if we really came out firing,
Starting point is 00:08:46 just like really being pricked? Like way too aggressively. Like, oh, really? I was ragged on for so long for this to just go get roasted on air. Yes. So we do have that to look forward to, though. Yeah, I'm excited for it. That is going to be a fun one.
Starting point is 00:09:02 We'll have to do even more prep than normal i think for that i think we there's got to be a little hoopla just because there's a lot to cover with that yes because we have been we've been fans of i personally can say i've been a fan of johnny candido probably longer than almost anyone that we one of the first ones yeah and almost anyone that we talked to just because he's been doing putting videos on youtube for so long yeah so it'll be fun it will that'll be good should we should we snap into a can right here let's do it okay this is a what's in the can tanner so you better suit up barney uh barney from how i Met Your Mother suit up. And this, Tanner, I will give you a hint that I've never had this before either.
Starting point is 00:09:50 Ooh. Maybe I have. You could have. We don't even know it. It's very possible you could have. That won't help me, though. All right, I'm suited up. Okay, here it is.
Starting point is 00:10:04 This doesn't have ammonia inhalants on top of it, does it? Oh, there's only one way to find out. Felt kind of light at first, but feels like a 12-ouncer. If I just go by just the smell test, because we've had a lot of weird things lately, kind of. The smell test, I'm liking the smell test. Hmm. kinda the smell test I'm liking the smell test hmm it's it makes sense to me this one makes sense I like it
Starting point is 00:10:36 I'll just tell you this is actually better than I thought it was going to be for some reason well it's a sparkling water um it's uh i'm wondering if it's a la croix i'm not 100 convinced it's la croix or not though what is that flavor it sounds it feels familiar to me but i don't think i can put my taste buds like like coke familiar or i'm getting hints of a almost a cherry coke okay okay like uh cheer wait there's nodes of cherry and cola cherry Cherry Coke. No, this one actually doesn't make me...
Starting point is 00:11:25 It's ringing a different bell, not the Cherry Coke bell, but I'm not sure what the bell is. It's like a... You know what it reminds me of almost? Like a Fanta. I'm actually not sure I've ever had Fanta. It's been a really long time since I had it. I don't know if I've ever drank a Fanta.
Starting point is 00:11:42 And they do make Fanta in like, I think, 10 different flavors. Okay, so what I'm ever drank a Fanta. And they do make Fanta in like, I think, 10 different flavors. So what I'm thinking is it's grape. Grapist is the flavor that's coming to mind. I'm going to say it's a grape sparkling water, not LaCroix. I'm going to say it's a Ha. Okay. Well, I think you should take a look, Tanner.
Starting point is 00:12:00 Strawberry? Oops. Felt it on your phone. Collateral damage. Oh, boy. Oh, well. Oops. Felt it on your phone. Collateral damage. Oh, boy. Oh, watermelon. Okay. So we have a La Croix pastique.
Starting point is 00:12:14 Pastique? I don't know how you say it. Is that what watermelon is? Watermelon. Whatever that is. Is that the French version of watermelon? That probably does taste like watermelon. I think it really does, actually. See, it reminds me. watermelon probably does taste like watermelon i think it really does actually see it remind like i'm artificial watermelon is always a different different animal yeah no i think i that is kind of what it tastes like to me but pasticay even better huh this one's
Starting point is 00:12:36 surprisingly good to me and the funny thing is i don't know who i think i don't know if someone dm me this or if i just saw it someone take masonomics in it but i'd never seen this flavor ever i go to target two days later it's on the shelf just waiting for me so i know i had to jump on it it's pretty good don't you think yeah i think this is almost uh this almost might be for jd power territory i think i'd give it a four i really like it what a very flavorful la croix it was it is i that's why i was thinking it wasn't a LaCroix because I figured that's why you were that's why you're going that way because it is I mean it's even kind of fragrant see it does remind me of like um this flavor though is like a what was that
Starting point is 00:13:14 kind of beverage I mentioned earlier I already forgot like that fruity cult oh Fanta Fanta yeah like this could remind me of like a watermelon Fanta. Yeah. It's in that same vein. My phone also gave it four J.D. Power and Associates Awards after I dumped it on it. After you had doused it. Should I do this ad here? Yeah, let's do it to them. Leading into maybe something else that we have coming here. Yes. This episode of the Massanomics Podcast is brought to you by The Strength Co.
Starting point is 00:13:44 Grant Brogy was born in the late 80s, nearly two decades after buddy caps began lifting. In the late 90s, Grant's brother Jordan bought him the new encyclopedia of modern bodybuilding by Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Grant's love for weightlifting began. In 2001, Grant joined the local YMCA and began training with weights. In 2009, Grant discovered the book Starting Strength, and in 2012, as lieutenant in the Marine Corps, he began teaching Marines this method. In 2017, Grant opened his first gym in Costa Mesa, California,
Starting point is 00:14:12 and the Strength Co. was born. This is the part where I want to say it's strong as a house. I'm jumping the gun here. That's not quite right. In 2020, during a major iron shortage, Grant sought to bring back quality manufacturing of Olympic barbell plates to America.
Starting point is 00:14:26 His innovation, adaptation, and can-do attitude brought about the greatest plates made in decades. The plates were accurate, antifragile, made to last a lifetime, strong as a house, and instantly became the go-to plates of hundreds of lifters at Massanomics Gym. You can check out the Strength Co. Olympic barbell plates at the strengthco.com that's the strengthco.com you can also check out the plates at massonomics gym you could go right to them yes you could do that too tell me how about a sack segment i would love a sex i love a good sack segment this is uh certainly one of the most unique one of the more unique sack segments we've had on the History of the Masonomics podcast. You would say that, huh?
Starting point is 00:15:08 I would say that. So let's see. Where to even start here? We received a care package, which is not uncommon. We often receive care packages here at Masonomics anymore. The uniqueness of this is more so who it came from and the type of products that they produce we received this care package from seafoam so if you don't know what about seafoam first of all we'll bust out a couple of their products uh this would be the
Starting point is 00:15:38 most traditional seafoam there's multiple products here though so i've never i've never used truck and suv seafoam. I've always used the small, like the one you put in your mower. Yeah. They have a lot of products. I didn't know that either. I thought it was like seafoam, and that was it. So here's a high mileage.
Starting point is 00:16:00 Okay, so I guess I should explain a little bit what seafoam is. Here's a brochure here, but you're not going to be able to read all that. But what seafoam, like, okay, growing up on farms and stuff. There's just like cans of it rolling around. There is. And actually, like, I had a joke about it with someone in the gym the other day. It's like, not only is there one half-empty can of seafoam at every farm, there's like four.
Starting point is 00:16:25 There's never just one. And they've all been opened. And they're all kind of dirty. Oh, yeah. They're all greasy. Rusty looking. But seafoam kind of is like the silver bullet for your vehicle's engine is kind of what I think of it as. Because it kind of almost does anything.
Starting point is 00:16:45 And it's almost like you can almost put it in any of the reservoirs. It can go in anything that can hold liquid and it'll work for some reason. Yes. It does say use in gas, gas, ethanol, diesel, or bile, or use in oil. So like that's what I'm saying you can put it in the gas tank or you put it in probably even put it in your windshield wiper just um so it says clean injectors clean carb jets stabilized fuel that's actually like the most common thing that i've often used it yeah for is it's like oh i left i left my gas in the mower all winter. I can just pour this in and it'll fire right up. Clean deposits, control moisture, add lubricity, de-ice, anti-gel.
Starting point is 00:17:31 Basically everything you can think of. So what did I hand you? The second one is the high mileage version. Yeah, high mileage, which I didn't know that existed. So that's very cool. Okay. Here is a seafoam deep creep premium penetrating oil and lubricant i would think that's almost like a more like like wd-40 yeah i would say deep creep that's pretty cool
Starting point is 00:17:55 um more of the truck and suv you know there's a total of one two three four five six like 10 12 bottles in here here's more high mileage more high mileage if you have anything with high mileage i have high mileage and truck suv no but like do you have anything that has high mileage well oh over 75 000 miles my car i have a 2009 malibu with 89 000 miles on it um okay it's a prime candidate for something like that there was okay this one this is uh sea foam spray auto marine fleet top engine cleaner and lube helps remove harmful deposits from critical engine areas so we got quite i'm not exactly sure what that the purpose for that one is so we've got the sea foam products there as there as Tommy is still holding up and looking at.
Starting point is 00:18:46 Then we also got some sweet seafoam swag. Oh, awesome. Check out some of these stickers here. And what I. I believe our good friend Grant at the Strength Co. Facilitated. Actually, I don't believe i know that yeah yes grant had a play in this seafoam is a minnesota-based company oh they are just down the
Starting point is 00:19:10 road from us oh they are shipping address is chaska oh by the Yep. So not far from us. Wow. They did send us some cool stickers there, Tommy. That's not all. Oh, but wait, there's more? It's a heavy box of seafoam. I saved the best for last. Okay. Whoa!
Starting point is 00:19:40 Seafoam hats? Yes. Very cool. Seafoam motor treatment established in 1942. Nice little hat. That is a nice little hat. Yeah. Wow. Nice embroidery on it.
Starting point is 00:19:53 Jeez, seafoam, hooking it up. I can't wait until my dad will just love hearing this story. So here's what I wanted to say. This is the first. We've gotten a lot of different little things on the Massonomics podcast. We've gotten sent a lot of different cool stuff. A lot of stuff that I think is really cool. This will be the first thing, say, for my dad and my father-in-law
Starting point is 00:20:18 that I'll be able to tell them about and show them, and they'll be like, you fucking made it. This is something that a free box you did it you sons of bitches stickers and hats where it's like seafoam yes you know that is really cool though wow i'm uh i'm grateful for this i mean I don't put hardly any miles in anything, so I won't use this much, but it's really, really cool to have. It is. It is a really cool thing.
Starting point is 00:20:50 And this, the hats and, you know, so the stickers are going to, there's going to be quite a bit of seafoam bling in Massanamish GM, which I think is really. That's maybe the best part, actually. It's also really fun. And it's just like I showed my brother-in-law this hat, and he's like, that is the coolest hat I've ever seen. Because, like, especially, like like around here in the egg community,
Starting point is 00:21:07 like everyone kind of has seafoam and knows it. And like if you have rocking a seafoam hat, everyone would be like, hey, where and why did you get a seafoam hat? Yeah. That guy knows something or someone. Yeah. Sweet. Well, that's really cool.
Starting point is 00:21:22 Thank you, people at seafoam. Yeah. Cool stuff. Thank you, seafoam yeah cool stuff thank you seafoam gladly vouch for yes so if you need uh fuel stabilizer cleaner yeah etc kind of like i said i think it's kind of a jackknife would be an uh i believe they all said two or four stroke engines so you are four stroke okay so you're good with pretty much anything with the engine uh so i could use them in my scooter my scooter is a two stroke
Starting point is 00:21:46 is it really? it's injected though you don't have to pre-mix it has separate reservoirs for the gas and the oil does it have a separate reservoir for the seafoam? no because you just put the seafoam in all the reservoirs there is no specific they're all seafoam reservoirs
Starting point is 00:22:04 what if you just instead of using oil though you just the seafoam in all the reservoirs. There is no specific. They're all seafoam reservoirs. It's just like, oh, you just top it off with a little seafoam. Instead of using oil, though, you just use seafoam. That might not be recommended. I'm not sure. Yeah, you'd probably be safer using seafoam instead of gasoline than seafoam instead of. But again, that's probably not the intended purpose there. Damn it, we're going to try it.
Starting point is 00:22:24 We got this whole case that's practically free gasoline, right? We could get to halfway on our Kansas City trip later this month. I think so. It's like racing fuel over there. It's just such a high octane. That was our
Starting point is 00:22:39 seafoam. Wow, very cool. What did we have next on our agenda? We had a few other important things to touch on didn't we well i think we should one more time touch on the discord and yeah how crazy that's been um you know we last week was like the first time we had uh mentioned anything about the discord because it only existed for like one day at that time right i think it was like 24 hours i think so it had already kind of gained some traction. And we're saying, Hey, there's a few people in here.
Starting point is 00:23:06 This is kind of silly and fun. And it's really gained traction. Like today you could, I only going to have almost bits and pieces of it. I had to laugh because my, my thoughts exactly were almost summed up. Like at the, I had a very busy day today.
Starting point is 00:23:21 And at the end of the day, it was five o'clock and I'm sitting there. Oh, discord. I'll pop that open. open and it's like just a wall of messages and the first few messages i'm seeing are already is anyone getting anything done there's so much going on in here and people are like no i have to work today i couldn't read all this and there's just so much shit happening in there and when i go in i just laugh the whole time because there's funny jokes there's funny memes yeah people are having a good time and i don't even really completely get where it's going sometimes and that's the beauty of it it has like just it has like a mind of its own it
Starting point is 00:23:53 does get a mind of its own there's uh you know secret masonomics parties are being formed in there you know and all kinds of uh yeah people already planning parties for next summer in your backyard tanner and that would be pretty fun. My wife was shocked at the number of people that seem to live in the Northeast region of the country that that would be moving this way. I actually did traveling the numbers. It's a shocking amount of Canadian people that we have in the also community.
Starting point is 00:24:20 I mean, it's also a shocking number of Canadian people that we send gear to. Yes. They're like the number of canadian people that we send gear to yes they're like the number of orders we send a lot down there yeah i know the number of orders we send across the border is pretty crazy yeah south south down there south the border to canada uh but so the discord the way you get involved if anyone's out there is asking well that sounds all like a lot of fun i enjoy the massonomics podcast how would the way you get involved, if anyone's out there is asking, well, that sounds all like a lot of fun. I enjoy the Mastonomics podcast.
Starting point is 00:24:47 How would someone like me get involved on the Mastonomics Discord community? Well, all you have to do is become a supporting member of the podcast. Sign up to be a supporting member. Yep, mastonomics.com slash join. Once you sign up, you will automatically get an email with an invite to get into the discord
Starting point is 00:25:05 and if you don't because sometimes those can get caught in a spam filter you just dm or just dm or anything and we'll know we'll know you're in the club and we'll get you in and then once you're in there you'll uh it'll be like uh you'll thank yourself like your group of best friends that you didn't know you never had yeah yeah and there's a lot there's already a lot of people there's not at this point now there's a lot of people in there there is a lot of people so you can almost get bombarded right away and there's even there's even not real people there's bots there's a there's a small army of bots it's like westworld in there there's just like an army of bots that are generating a lot you can't tell who's a real supporting member and who's one of
Starting point is 00:25:41 the who's real and who's a bot except that most of them do say bot behind them but and they say the same thing repeatedly they tend to stick to the same uh gifts and uh and sayings but so if you can't so it's a it's an item on our store in our shop on our website you know that like instead of a shirt or shorts or don't even want to say the hat there's an item in there that's a podcast supporting membership and you can go in there select your level um any of the levels will get you in there but if you want to um be more generous sign up for one of the higher levels is what i would say and then that'll get you access to the discord like you said and anyone that uh is already a supporting member and isn't in the Discord now,
Starting point is 00:26:28 if you haven't seen it, shoot me a message. Everyone got an email, but sometimes they go in your junk folder, spam folder. So let us know and we'll send it to you too. But anyways, go and get signed up. And one of the things, as soon as you get in the Discord, there's a discount code for all the supporting members, but it's in the Discord. So you have to go there to get it.
Starting point is 00:26:44 It's like a treasure hunt. And if we're talking and if we're talking like well i don't know what discord is oh i have no i had no idea i'm fairly certain over half of the people that are in there have never used discord i bet like 75 and i think it's taken them all about two seconds to adjust to life there it's very simple and like takes if you remember how like chat rooms work in 1999 you can use discord or if you work in an office that has maybe any type of like slack or team chat thing it's probably exactly like that there's actually nothing special about it i don't even know how it's like a thing that wasn't already a thing yeah well like for a long time oh yeah yeah yeah yeah no no like i mean i i realized it existed before we got it
Starting point is 00:27:25 here but like like technologically speaking it doesn't feel like there's anything in there we're probably not using it to its full potential true uh one of the other little little perks too is also we have the ability to set up custom emojis so there is of course there is a growing list of great custom emojis there is the jd power emoji ejac. There's the ejaculoid emoji. There's a cool beans emoji. There's a Strength Co. plate emoji. And it's a growing list. There's a billboard emoji. There's a Texas Power bar emoji.
Starting point is 00:27:52 Just a small little bit of what's actually in there. There's all types of stuff getting added in there. Big John's Old West barbecue sauce emoji. And you know you have a really good comment when it's getting just a great collection of emojis. It gets three ejaculoids, two go-to plates, and one cool beans. You're like, oh, I'm pretty funny. I can go home now.
Starting point is 00:28:16 So sign up to become a supporting member. I honestly don't think you'll be disappointed. I think you'll say, this is pretty fun. This is worth it. Yeah, and a lot of people have been signing up. Like, the last few days have been really good for that because people are excited to get in on the Discord action. And we've got some other ideas and plans
Starting point is 00:28:35 how to utilize that further, you know, where we get the Discord community involved a little more, maybe through the podcast in some ways. It'll happen. It's a matter of's just right we're gonna take steps yeah it's just so brand new to us but yeah there is there will be some more exciting stuff coming in there but i would get in on it now because it is pretty fun yeah it's a good time if nothing else i think some of the people in there probably aren't really like as actively participating others but i assume they're enjoying uh so i think even if you're not an active participant, it's just fun to be a bystander.
Starting point is 00:29:09 Right. And then you just pick your spots where it's like, I'll jump in on this thing. For sure. We still have one topic that we've now pushed off. That's probably too big of a topic. I know for like two or three weeks now. So I guess we'll just have to push it off again.
Starting point is 00:29:26 Well, and we would just say that the IPF is now not allowing the USAPL lifters to lift at Worlds. It's a big deal. I saw many of those usual USAPL champions that would lift at IPF voice their opinions, and it seemed like none of them were happy about it, of course. Which is not really surprising. And I think in the upcoming weeks here,
Starting point is 00:29:49 we're going to interview a few of those people that would normally compete at IPF Worlds and see what they have to say about it. So we probably don't need to say a lot about it this week anyways because we can get them to weigh in on it more. Yeah, we'll get the full story from more of a person on the inside. Yeah, we'll get the full rundown that way. Full-on rundown.
Starting point is 00:30:09 Well, we're kind of on this timeline kick, aren't we, Tommy? Yeah. What would a timeline... We're opening the history book again. What would a timeline kick be without the original timeline? Without the origin story? Yes. Are you familiar with Buddy Caps?
Starting point is 00:30:24 I have heard of the man okay buddy caps first started lifting weights in the late 60s he began power lifting in the mid 70s at that time he was working for image barbell building gym equipment around 1976 the local machine shop started making olympic bars for them and calling it the image bar in 1977 image barbell became champion barbell it was then that buddy caps started looking at the bars with an 1977 image barbell became champion barbell it was then that buddy caps started looking at the bars with an intent of changing them for the better in 1979 buddy bought his first lathe to begin addressing the known issues in 1980 his passion drive and purpose now had a greater mission but he set out on his own to make what he believed was the greatest bar
Starting point is 00:30:59 he'd ever seen and trained with and the texas power bar was born it was strong as a house with the best journaling of course it was maintenance free hundreds of state national international and world power lifting records have been and continue to be set and broken on the texas power bar to learn more uh visit them at texaspowerbars.com you can buy their bars there i just saw now they had i hadn't seen this before they had a scratch and dent sale on bars even like a blemish bar sale i think you could get a bar for like 75 bucks off normal price oh okay i think you say no i would have bought like 10 yeah like they're they can't be making any money but like a pretty 75 bucks off it's a good deal i'm a big fan of blemish bars
Starting point is 00:31:42 i've gotten i've gotten those from numbers of companies. Most people don't realize is that if it's not like just you using the bar, the second you take any bar out of the tube, it's now a blemished bar. Exactly. Especially like we have a gym full of people that all even respectfully just use the bars a lot. I get if you have your own garage gym and you're the only one that uses it. It's different. But the second you introduce one,
Starting point is 00:32:08 for sure two more people to your bar, it's a blemished bar. There's no way around that. Saving 15% on the price of the barbell because it's still just as good of a bar. It just has some scratch that would be there anyways. And actually, normally you can't even figure out what it is. And I'm kind of just speaking for all the companies in that way.
Starting point is 00:32:25 You know, there's just. Yeah. You're not getting like this mangled bar when you sign up for the blemish bar. Exactly. Should we get our guest? I think we should. On the horn here. If you're into that sort of thing, stick around.
Starting point is 00:32:41 I'm very into that sort of thing. So I'll stick around. All right. You'll be here. Good'll be hard by myself. That's what she said. Hello. Big Anthony, is this you? Yes, what's up? You're with Tanner and Tommy here. How's it going?
Starting point is 00:33:07 It's going well, man. It's just post-bench sadness slash happiness. Because benching, anyone who knows me, is like a love-hate sort of thing. Mostly hate and uh mostly pretending to love so that i don't fucking hate two days a week in the gym so uh yeah everyone has that with a lift probably yeah benching is definitely difficult but learning to love it and trying to like do the thing where i'm overly positive where it's like i love benching i love that and eventually it'll turn around so eventually you just live a lie and then it's
Starting point is 00:33:47 all good right fuck it yeah makes it makes it easier we can tell our so we can convince ourselves of anything you know what i mean i think those are the kind of relationships that mean the most though and buried deep inside yeah exactly yeah it's very healthy. It's like a good coping mechanism, you know? Okay, so tell me if this is how you say your last name. I don't know. Is it Oliveira? Very close, dude. Yeah, very close.
Starting point is 00:34:15 Usually I get like Oliveira. No, it's just Oliveira. Oliveira. Okay, sometimes I just try to say it fast and mumbly and then people are like, ah, it might have been right. I would not have corrected you if you said it wrong. Okay, so Anthony Oliveira? Yes, sir.
Starting point is 00:34:31 Okay, all right. Sweet. Got that out of the way. So, Anthony, you are the host of the Stay Hated Trigger Warning Conjugate podcast. You run the Trigger Warning Conjugate Instagram page. And the way that, uh, quite honestly,
Starting point is 00:34:47 the way that we first find, found out about, let's yes. Okay. All right. Hey, listen, I,
Starting point is 00:34:53 Hey, listen, Hey, listen. Okay. Uh, you brought up some like shit. I didn't get invited to the fucking prom.
Starting point is 00:35:00 I, I, and that's, listen, that's how I felt. And honestly, like the people who are like who are the homies and people that I coach and like you know the community with trigger warning like they're brutal and you guys got like probably you guys probably got like 15 percent of what those cats
Starting point is 00:35:19 can bring I like those dudes those dudes don't they don't, they don't fucking play. So, uh, yeah, but that story is kind of funny if you guys want to tell it from your perspective. I mean, it was like,
Starting point is 00:35:33 I remember I'm looking at it. So Tanner posted, you know, we, we knew we'd update. Yeah. We do this annual list. We talked about,
Starting point is 00:35:39 I think we talked about the list a little bit in the last, last week's episode. We do this and we've done it for like the last four or five years. And it's a list of, uh, some of the top strength podcasts and it's like well obviously we're going to include ourselves every single year like that's yeah no i get it yeah and then like that's half of it two or three that like just always keep going so like we keep them on the list and then like the other 60 just turn over every single year right and it's not because we stop liking those podcasts it's because they just literally stop they just quit making so like that
Starting point is 00:36:07 that's the reason the list has to be updated right and sure the updated list comes out and tanner's like yeah i'm gonna make the post on instagram and i see the post i'm like whoa we're getting a lot of comments about some other podcasts here and these people are very passionate about this and yeah and so it's kind of well and we don't we don't uh i would say too we i we had neither of us had any problem with that because we can really relate to that because there's there's been things happened in the massonomics world before that we also have like a pretty passionate uh fan base that like if they think we would have been included in something oh they'd do the same if like you said even if not like much more severe than that so that's what
Starting point is 00:36:51 we laughed about it we can see if like if it was the other way around it would be the exact same thing for us actually my first thing was like oh this because i really didn't didn't know about uh about your podcast and everything until then. And my thought was, this must be something real. You know, like this is a re this must be a very legit thing because otherwise you don't get this number of people. Right. Right. Like, so my initial thing was like, oh, I, we do need to check. Like they basically, they're not wrong. We do need to go check this out. Yeah. It was was like i saw the post i might have gotten sent to me honestly something i sent to me or i saw i don't remember
Starting point is 00:37:30 and i was like oh that's a fucking bummer like we have a hundred like i was like fuck like we have a hundred episodes i've had like you know cone and and hoff and like you know big laura and like all these big names and stuff i was like i had my feelings hurt so i uh i talked to a couple of the homies about it and you know they had their liberties with your comment section um i you know i at first i was like i was like fuck like i could i didn't want to really get involved in it because like i've done listen we've all done the like internet drama thing anybody in strength sports has been involved in that and and dude like i had two of my big like thousand plus pound squats posted on quarter squat gang so i have been in the bullshit
Starting point is 00:38:15 dude like and that was years ago i have been in the fucking like in the firefight of the internet and uh just in the trenches dude just getting my ass kicked they're like going after my fucking girlfriend like on her instagram telling her she's telling her telling her she's a twat because of my sweat like dude it was crazy so whenever that internet stuff starts to pop off it can get like negative i was like yeah man i hope this doesn't take a weird turn and i was like i was hoping you guys had like you guys obviously have a good sense of humor and shit so like like i hope they get that this is like like these guys aren't being shit it's like my buddy mike was like what have you lived under a fucking rock or some shit like i was like i hope they can
Starting point is 00:38:58 get the like you know sort of like east coast humor with the whole thing so i appreciate you guys and then like you know we've obviously talked since and stuff. So I appreciate you guys like, uh, asking me to come on and all that stuff. Cause I know that your demo is definitely like your demographic of, of the people that you guys usually do. It was like probably significantly different than what I'm about over here.
Starting point is 00:39:19 So like, I know I, I wasn't surprised that you guys hadn't heard of me, but it still hurt my fucking feelings. I, I wrote about it in you guys hadn't heard of me, but it still hurt my fucking feelings. Yeah. I wrote about it in my diary, like whatever. Well, it's actually like a part of part of the good that comes out of that every year. There's a couple where it's like, oh, we didn't know about it.
Starting point is 00:39:36 Now we do, you know, like shake out. And then we find out. Yeah. I would say, obviously, like you've over the last because I think it's probably been like a year and a half since we re updated that about, so you've obviously gained like a ton of momentum in that year and a half because you know,
Starting point is 00:39:51 a year and a half ago when we probably shared it, I don't remember. Uh, well that would have been, yeah, I mean, yeah, that would have been,
Starting point is 00:39:56 no, yeah. I mean, well honestly it's only been shit. I think, I think I've only had it for like two years. I, you know,
Starting point is 00:40:04 I started the podcast uh like maybe three or four months before maybe it might have been during like right during the pandemic like and during that time because everybody was home i was putting out episodes like every three days it was fucking insane like i just would like just started messaging people like and everybody was home so everybody could do it and i got lucky with a couple people where like i didn't get lost in their like request folder because everybody's home and they're bored and so it grew kind of fast and i like put out i might have blown my load with it you know what i mean because now i like have to be like all right i need more guests i've already had like
Starting point is 00:40:42 ed call you know but uh yeah it kind of, it grew pretty fast. So I wasn't surprised. Like I said, I wasn't surprised you guys hadn't heard of it, but I'm stoked to be here, dude. You guys do an awesome job and obviously your following is great. And like, I can fuck with the memes and the humor. We kind of try to
Starting point is 00:41:00 try, we, we poke at our, we probably poke at ourselves more than we poke at anyone. So it kind of, we get away with then making fun of a little bit of everything in the community. Sure. Because we make fun of ourselves more than anyone else. Right, right. But what you said I think is true. We kind of live in – it's funny.
Starting point is 00:41:17 We're both into powerlifting just generally speaking. But yet it can be divided enough into separations. Which sucks. Yeah, right. Which but it is that is real bro and it is like uh and listen dude like i'm not dumb i know that like the quick power lifting has like a lot of weird um stuff surrounding it like and and like i know that it's easy for people to sit there and be like yeah dude sweet fucking diaper suit you squat four inches high like you bench you bench 600 i bet you can't leave bench two plates raw like whatever like throw in it throw into the mix like steroids bald fat guys louis simmons like like just like you know what i'm saying like all of
Starting point is 00:42:03 a sudden it's very easy to be like you guys are fucking ridiculous and and on top of that like because like raw lifting is generally a like younger person's culture true yeah it's even easier for them to look at someone who's like it's like it's very easy for a 22 year old kid to be like we this fucking idiot who weighs 400 pounds and benches 800 in his shirt like it's really easy for them 22-year-old kid to be like, leave this fucking idiot who weighs 400 pounds and benches 800 in his shirt. It's really easy for them. So I don't – Well, it's almost like a lot of stereotyping too, and it's funny because –
Starting point is 00:42:33 but you can also do the stereotyping – It's not that wrong, dude. I mean, it's not far off. Right, right, right. But you can also do it the exact opposite end of the spectrum. You kind of go to the uh usa the very uh usa junior uh you know like it's like the opposite exists too you know there's yep and the probably the problem is is people like just being so against the other side you know like the tribalism right yeah there people are
Starting point is 00:43:01 very dogmatic and then you add into it the training philosophy too right so like everybody thinks that like what's the what's the joke like you know if you put one set of chains on a bench press like they'll they'll do like you know a raw guy will do like this like you know and it's very easy to like i get it And when it comes down to it, bro, like honestly not to get like hippie dippy, but like, listen, like I coach raw lifters. I lifted raw. I respect raw lifting. I think it's crazy. The fact that there's fucking people who like walk backwards with like, that doesn't use a monolink. You're fucking crazy.
Starting point is 00:43:39 You walk out big weights and like squat over a thousand pounds raw. And like, you've got these crazy chicks who are squatting five and six or five. Like that's awesome. It's not what I want to do because my hips don't like it. And I actually really like, I love the culture of multiply and I love the like smoke them. If you got them sort of mentality and very like extreme person. So I,
Starting point is 00:44:00 I fucked with that and I liked that it was counterculture. That's why I got into it. Um, but, uh, I hate with that. And I liked that it was counterculture. That's why I got into it. Um, but, uh, I hate the division. Um, and everyone thinks that I don't like raw lifting because I put out, you know, like with the clothing itself, put on a shirt, you know, American multiply and whatever. And to me, it's just like, I like this. So this is what I'm going to rock. And, you know, I'm going to put stuff out for regular power lifters too,
Starting point is 00:44:21 that don't necessarily lift in gear, but like, I'm definitely pushing the narrative that gear is sweet. You mentioned it, Tommy, before we recorded too, that you're just promoting what you like. Your stuff all has a really positive spin on it and stuff. You're not shitting on anyone else or anything like that. It's all like you're just passionate about what you're not shitting on anyone else or anything like that. It's all like – No. You're just passionate about what you're doing.
Starting point is 00:44:47 The message is probably more uplifting and positive than what people might think from the outside looking in. Yeah, it's almost like contrary to the overall look sometimes. It's like, no, no, they're like – Well, I love that. Dude, I fucking love that. I've loved that since I was like a young kid, right? So, like, man, I have a three-eyed wolf with an upside-down cross tattooed on my throat. And I'm sitting there being like, what's up, everybody?
Starting point is 00:45:11 What's up, Monday? And I love that. And it's not fake. It's not fake. It doesn't seem like it. I try to live that way. Obviously, it's easier for me to be a negative guy at times and stuff. But I try to push that. It's like yo you can be a crazy looking motherfucker with traps up
Starting point is 00:45:30 to your earlobes and a big neck tattoo and and be fiercely fucking competitive like i want to do when i compete against people i want to cut their fucking heads off like i want to win i want to do my best fuck everybody no friends but at the same time like yo i'll give somebody a slap on the ass if they have a big lift even if it beats me like i you know i i i like that duality of it i think people have a hard time seeing that and with my page especially with the stay hated thing it's like people automatically go to negativity with it like off off rip but like you said if you look at more than one post on the page you're gonna know like i'm about the sport as a fucking hole and like you know the division doesn't help anybody except for make everybody less money and cause a lot more people
Starting point is 00:46:17 to get like tendonitis in their thumb stuck and shit yeah that is kind of the funny part though because like when we when we in those comments and we're seeing like no trigger warning and stay hated it's like whoa these are like like as far as terms go today like almost like strong buzzwords for like kind of negative stuff and i'm like yeah what is this place over here then you go and it's like oh no this isn't as bad as maybe what you you want it might initially pop into your head when you think those things well what was the um the the names you know, uh, trigger warning conjugate. I mean, I kind of, I kind of get it just from, you know, the bit I have been following and stuff,
Starting point is 00:46:52 but what was like the inception of that stuff? Where did those names come from and everything? Well, so like, just to get like, do you want like a little background, like put myself in context, it'll help. So, uh, yeah, so I was just training people in new hampshire and um i got invited to a tryout for west side barbell i came out did that and i obviously didn't have any money i moved out like most cliche thing in the universe i drove or yeah i drove out here in my fucking prius with uh everything i owned that i could fit in there and $800 in my bank account, lived on a couch and like figured out my life. Well, at least you were getting good mileage while you were doing it. Yeah. It only cost me 65 cents. So, uh, uh, yeah. And so like, it started just
Starting point is 00:47:37 like, I had like eight lifters that I was coaching and, um, I was just like, let's try to do online stuff. And we did, and it kind of grew from there. And one of my, one of my clients is like, you know, like second gen feminist, super liberal, like super left-leaning. Um, she's like a good friend of mine. She's awesome. Um, she came up with the name trigger warning conjugate because I guess it's just like funny because to come from
Starting point is 00:48:05 like such a liberal person you use like those like those words and uh the idea being like as a coach i'm a little softer now but especially back then i was just like if you look like shit i was gonna say like you look like shit like and i'm not gonna say you did this good you did this bad you did this good i'm just gonna say no fuck that like i was like you don't pay me i'm not here i'm not gonna say you did this good you did this bad you did this good i'm just gonna say no fuck that like i was like you don't pay me i'm not here i'm not here to be your friend like you pay me like we can be friends without you paying me but if you're paying me i'm gonna tell you the truth about what your lifts look like and um and how you're fucking up or whatever uh so that's where that came from and the stay hated thing was sort of just like
Starting point is 00:48:42 uh you know it doesn't like it literally doesn't matter like i'm sure you guys have people slide into your dms talk shit or like not like you and you guys are like obviously fun loving nice dudes like have a good time like like to goof around whatever how could anyone dislike you but like people it doesn't fucking matter like dude like people are gonna hate you no matter what. Yeah. So fuck it, like, be yourself. Like, there's people who hate Mother Teresa.
Starting point is 00:49:10 On the internet, if enough people see you, somebody's going to voice, think that they need to tell you that they don't like you or what you're doing. Well, they're just, like, sad on the inside about something else. Like, that's, like, something for them to, like, you know, write down and whatever deal with themselves like i don't know that that whole thing is very weird to me so um yeah so that was kind of like where that came from and then it just kind of grew man like you know i have uh like just under 70 people that i coach right now you know we sell apparel we do really well and it's
Starting point is 00:49:42 kind of grown like really or like slowly but but organically. Um, and people really latch onto the culture of the, like, stay hated thing because it's really, it just makes sense. It's like, yo, like middle fingers up. Like if you're into it, rock it. And like, I don't give a fuck. Like that's why I tell people like, yo, I love raw lifting because if you're into raw lifting, like, and you're about that, fuck what anybody has to say about it. If you're a bench only, if you're into raw lifting like and you're about that fuck what anybody has to say about it if you're a bench only if you're a fucking single ply bench only guy drug tested whatever and you're really into that sick do it like and if anybody has a problem with it like they can go bang their fucking ankles or whatever they're gonna do you know what i mean so i think it's really i try to bring that level of intensity while bringing like positivity to,
Starting point is 00:50:26 to the sport as a whole, because like, I think the sport's sick and more or less like it sounds cliche, but it did, I don't want to say like save my life, but it definitely like helped me not be a piece of shit. You know what I mean? Yeah. Yeah. So that's cool. It feels like to me uh your your podcast um because i've listened to probably over five of them now and i've been following along and i watch stuff pretty closely over these last few weeks here and uh it seems like as far as in the multiplayer world trigger warning conjugate stay hated podcast is like the podcast uh like is there anyone else would you say that did you just last minute invite me
Starting point is 00:51:10 to the dance I think you did yeah stay tuned because that could be the surprise ending that that could be the I'm waiting for it yeah surprise ending here but that's honestly my take on it uh
Starting point is 00:51:25 that it's like it is the podcast if you're uh big into especially multi-ply powerlifting like you are you would be a fan of your podcast like before any others i would i would say yeah i mean like you have you know elite fts does their thing but they don't really like yeah and dave's not really like, he's not in a, I mean, he's in the multi-five or like those, that's a huge business that like, obviously if raw is popular,
Starting point is 00:51:51 that's what they're going to spend. Right. Right. It's just a different energy on. Um, and yeah, I, I would never say I'm the premier,
Starting point is 00:52:00 but like, you know, multiply podcast, but there really isn't any other and i try to like bring other people like yo if any of these big raw lifters like if there's any like raw lifters that are sick that are listening that want to come on like slide into the dms dude i'd love to have you on like i had dan bell on i've had like um you know some of these bigger raw lifters on a thing i love it but there is like part of that is just a cultural
Starting point is 00:52:25 thing with uh with multiply is like it's definitely not cool to be on the internet if you're like an og right that's actually something i wanted to talk to you about that like let's get into it buddy you're almost like it's a weird thing yeah you're like kind of like the i don't know like almost the antithesis of like because like it's like uh it's like uh it's like the oxymoron yeah it's like an oxymoron yeah equipped lifting is like well i mean i the impression you get as an equipped lifter is they really love equipped lifting but at the same time they don't want anyone else to love it and they kind of don't want people to know that they love it either is yeah it's like it's basically like you're a punk rock band that refuses to sign a deal to get a tour bus but you you fucking you play basement shows in front of
Starting point is 00:53:19 15 people and talk about how shitty it is and then but then but then if someone offers you like hey man you want to come on tour and like open for terror you're like no i don't want to that's fucking stupid like you know that there's definitely that vibe to a lot of it is kind of changing but like yeah listen i'm not i'm not lost on it man like i know there are people in the multiply community that probably think i'm a fucking total cheese ball. And I'm cool with that. Um, because like when I left New Hampshire, there were probably six multiply lifters in that state. And now when you go to a fucking meet at my old gym, if there's 30 lifters,
Starting point is 00:53:56 25 of them are multiply. So I'm, and all that is, man, it's like the more people who are multiplied, the more people pay to go to meets, the more money we can put in meets, the bigger it gets, the bigger the number gets. Well, to me, it's just gets to be more fun then too, right?
Starting point is 00:54:10 Fuck yeah, dude. I don't want to be the only guy in a fucking penguin suit. I want everybody to have a mom. And I think a lot of that too is, to be honest with you, is like people are going to deny they feel this this way but this is just the fact of the matter a lot of people latched on to the west side barbell vibe and a lot of those people who latched on to that never fucking trained there so you have people so you'll have a fucking meet in connecticut or fucking you know some like wherever dude palahassie a bunch of guys that have never been to west side barbell who will walk in with their hoodies up and they're and they like you know and they want to be the tough guys in the corner like with the oxygen tanks and eating cheeseburgers between
Starting point is 00:54:55 their attempts and be like beating those guys and it's like that culture is not sustainable for a sport that you want to like do you want to like do you want to get treated like a like listen you want to get treated like a professional you want to get paid like a professional that means you have to like shake hands and be kind and like put yourself out there that takes you know what i mean to grow the sport we have to do that it's definitely not part of the culture do you want every meet you go to to have less and less people at it all the time like correct correct it can still be extreme but yet like like what you're talking and that doesn't have to necessarily have all of those like it can still be very extreme and that can be what draws you to it but like it can have like uh
Starting point is 00:55:38 softer touch to it kind of still too yeah dude hey man listen it doesn't have to be this like always be this like always be this big fucking swinging axe you know what i mean like it's it's fine like we can be a butter knife every so often it's all right and so i really try to i mean that's probably one of the reasons why i didn't last like super long at west side like i was only there for like two years um because that is not it's just like that amount of negativity isn't going to help the sport. And it's like, when it comes down to it too, there's no real argument anymore about like,
Starting point is 00:56:12 if raw lifters are fucking badass anymore. So like the old school multiply thing where it's like, fuck raw lifting and fuck this and we're underground and we're tough or whatever. Like it doesn't work anymore. Cause there's a ton of super fucking badass, super awesome people who lift raw. And, you know, and then also there's a lot of people like, you look at someone like Laura Phelps.
Starting point is 00:56:34 Yeah. Best, you know, you know, multiply power lifter to walk the face of the planet for the most part. You know, like everybody's going to agree with that. She's all over the internet. She does online coaching. She sells t-shirts. Like, like you know we have to evolve if we want this to go anywhere otherwise if everybody just stayed in the basement and trained in a fucking gym with spray-painted black windows like no one you know like no one's gonna know what we're doing and no
Starting point is 00:56:59 one's gonna care but now it's like we've been on espn we have really good streams you know like you have to do this stuff to be able to showcase the thing that you think is rad it's like we've been on espn we have really good streams you know like you have to do this stuff to be able to showcase the thing that you think is rad it's like man like look at um i don't know if you guys follow this kind of a weird thing but i don't know if you guys follow skateboarding at all but i skated for years yeah so like you think about street league everyone's like oh it's fucking stupid it's like yeah it's stupid until you see a kid who got paid six figures to fucking skateboard yeah get the fuck out of here that's incredible and like the reach that that has and like oh there's also production value this is fun to watch like there's just like so many upside there's almost no downsides to it like there literally is no oh you're selling out like oh no you're gonna make more money so you can get better equipment so you can get more sponsors so more people can know about it so
Starting point is 00:57:49 yeah more kickflips can be done like dude like it's it's really weird so uh i think it's kind of turning around now to be honest with you like i think that multiplies kind of opening up and um guys like myself i think are doing a great job you know pat myself on the back to fucking yeah i think you are doing a great job though honestly push that positivity that positivity and also like you know you have guys like michael fahey who did west side versus the world and and then helped put together wpo and wayne pollum and and these p and the domingas from tricity barbara like these are people who put up uh money for wpo they help organize it like and uh and people can say what they want about wpo or whatever but at this point it's like, and, uh, and people can say what they want about WPO or whatever,
Starting point is 00:58:25 but at this point, it's, like, the biggest showcase meet of multi-fly powerlifting in the fucking world, so, um, that's really cool, and I, I think that, um, not to kiss everybody's ass, but there are just, like, a lot of really awesome people in the multi-fly community that not everybody in our sport as a whole are aware of, like, what they're doing, and, like, I mean, when you've got a guy like Wayne Pullum who who helps put together wpo like you see him like leading up to the meet it looks like his head's gonna explode because he has so much shit going on but he really just cares so much to get that going for us so uh i'm really stoked on where multiply is already now and it's just gonna continue to get to get bigger and and guess what if it got smaller i wouldn't give a fuck i'd keep doing it you know like it's just fun for me and
Starting point is 00:59:10 and and honestly like uh i think that most roads and power lifting lead to either retirement or getting in some sort of gear because like you you know it dude like how many times you know how many times you've seen a guy who's real strong like you know real real strong gets real strong in the raw stuff and then falls apart and disappears because of injuries or all of a sudden you see him using a slingshot more often yeah and then they put on it and then they're like oh i just put on these silly briefs to protect my hips you know and then and then and then all of a sudden they're in a fucking canvas.
Starting point is 00:59:48 So, yeah, dude, don't get it twisted. There's lots of shit that's fucked up with the multiply culture and powerlifting culture, but I think there's more good than bad. Well, I was going to say anecdotally from thinking of the guests we've had on, actually like every multiply guest
Starting point is 01:00:04 we've had on has been some of our best interviews. And now I would say some of our fun is the best because I'll run down the list. And for anyone that you guys had like Panora. Yeah. So for anyone that is a big TWC fan, that's listening to this for the first time, cause you're on here. These would be some, you might be interested in going back and checking out. We've had Panoro, who's awesome. He's super nice and was a lot of fun to have on. Donnie Thompson, of course, is a personality. We had Michael Fahey on.
Starting point is 01:00:34 Yeah, Michael Fahey. He was one of our first interviews, actually. We had Michael Fahey. He's great. We still run Westside versus the world runs on repeat in our Massanomics gym. We have a little club gym and that's cool. That's on repeat on a DVD that it just, it doesn't shut off. And then Dave Tate, of course.
Starting point is 01:00:55 And then yourself. And there was one other one I was thinking of. It's just slipped my mind right now, but I was thinking there's before this, we had at least five, not, you know, not counting yourself that we've done that are for sure what you'd consider multi-ply guys. But all of those on that list that I did mention have been awesome interviews for us. They have been. It's probably because we've had to talk ourselves out of people telling us that we're terrible at what we do and we're ruining.
Starting point is 01:01:21 I have every rebuttal ready for anything. do and we're ruining i have every rebuttal ready for any you know the other thing too is you never know like when you go on to use uh you know other people's podcasts that are like primarily raw like you never know if they're gonna start hitting you with zingers you're now entering the gotcha part of the interview so yeah bring it dude get you to get your guard down you can't you can't be any more you can't be any worse than the fucking like hundred of of the non-profile picture having instagram so my block list is pretty long at this point because i dude i shit you not man i i i posted a it was a it was posted a 1070 squat. Let's be honest.
Starting point is 01:02:07 I got away with it. It was high. I'll say that. You know what I mean? But it was probably two inches high. It was not a great lift. I buried that weight since. But all of a sudden, my phone just starts blowing up.
Starting point is 01:02:20 And I'm like, oh, cool. Look at this. And then all of a sudden, I was like, oh, no. And it's just like I had to turn my notifications off on my phone so i could go to sleep because my phone just kept lighting up lighting up lighting up lighting up like and it would just be like bullshit three red lights like fuck you like it's like all of these it ended up having like i dude i'll go back and i'll find the post i'll send it to you and it's like got like fucking 500 comments and it's got like 30,000 views. And like,
Starting point is 01:02:48 because it got shared around so much. So I've dealt with that shit, uh, pretty aggressively two times actually from that same page, which I don't even know if they're a page, but yeah, now it's like anybody who comments something shitty like that, they just get blocked and then they don't exist to me anymore.
Starting point is 01:03:03 It makes life easier. Yeah. Uh, well, I'll never get into a tit for tat anymore dude fuck that like i got dude i got i got shit to do and you're never gonna someone's gonna be like oh he's dirt so i've never seen a sumo squat before say something ridiculous like that you're not gonna say well actually this is a wide stance you know like i'm and then they're and then they go oh that makes sense you know what i mean like oh i really learned something today especially you know the no like you said the no picture no profile picture kind of no it's what it is is it's like if it's on facebook it's like the profile picture is like of like a cartoon like hulk drawing and then and
Starting point is 01:03:47 then if you swipe it if you swipe it once the next profile picture is a screen cap of their own profile picture that they tried to use to like it's like some like weird boomer like thing where it's like always it's always animated marvel characters'm like some weirdo guy that's being like not even close to legal death okay thanks that's fine dude the judges thought differently i would say on occasion and it's probably not so much the no profile picture having guy but there'll be people that'll that'll comment stuff on ours every once in a while that i'm like oh that kind of pisses me off oh yeah i'm gonna try to respond to this in a way that they can't help but be like, oh, I guess I was a prick. I'll be like, try to be so...
Starting point is 01:04:34 You really mirrored it back on me. Right, right, right. And on occasion, to some people's credit, and they're probably not the full-on, full private, they might not even realize that they're really saying saying a comment, you know, scum of the right. Right. And they'll be like, and like, I will get that on occasion where they're like, oh, that makes sense. I appreciate it. And it's like, all right. And you feel really good. Yeah. I'm like, I feel really good.
Starting point is 01:05:02 Yeah. I mean, like with that stuff, it's really kind of a goofy thing. And I, like I said, I've been involved with like where I would respond every time. Like, no, you're the loser. Like,
Starting point is 01:05:12 like, and I just, I just refuse to do it at this point because it's, it takes so much energy and it's like, man, I would literally rather take all of that time and sit in silence on my couch instead of doing that, you know? So, and as soon as I stopped, like, as soon as you stop responding to it,
Starting point is 01:05:30 it stops happening as much. And then like, you know, it's all good. It kind of just shifts. Cause as soon as they realize you're not going to respond, they're like, Oh fuck this, we're going to go on to somebody else. We get the next poor son of a bitch. Yeah, exactly. Like whatever whatever. From their mom's basement. Yeah. You talked about how you had trained at Westside, and I think you're trained with Dave Hoff now. Is that right?
Starting point is 01:05:56 Yes. Could you explain, like, I understand night crew means you guys were the guys that lifted at night, but it seems to take on, like, a bigger meaning than that a little bit. Like, what does the night crew mean you guys were the guys that lifted at night but it seems to take on like a bigger meaning than that a little bit like what what does the night crew mean kind of yeah so uh and like i'm just asking because i just don't know like i just yeah yeah so some of the stuff is uh you know there's some stuff that's gonna come out in the documentary that's being filmed okay now um so i don't want to get into too much details. But as far as Night Crew stuff,
Starting point is 01:06:28 it was just like when we got kicked out as a whole, we basically were just like, well, this is ours now. Now we're Night Crew, wherever we are. So we just kind of took it. But when you're at West west side there is a pretty big division okay you know that was basically like the first sort of time i got kicked out because i got i kind of got kicked out the first time and then i definitely got kicked out the second time so i was two for two um but uh that was kind of one of the reasons because i was kind
Starting point is 01:07:03 of sneaking in at night and training with Dave instead of training in the morning. Cause, cause to me I was like, well, I look around, I looked around in the morning and it's like biggest bench press here is 900 pounds. And it was done like eight years ago.
Starting point is 01:07:17 And then off at night, like he's benched a thousand and he's been doing this for fucking 10 years. So I'm going to go and learn how to bench. That sounds good. I'd like to do that. Yeah. Yeah. like he's benched a thousand and he's been doing this for fucking 10 years so i'm gonna go that sounds good i'd like to do that yeah yeah yeah like why would you and i'm not and it's not it's not any slight to the guys i was training with in the morning at the time um but it's like i didn't move away from my entire family to train with almost the best like i want to train with the fucking best that's why i'm here i did not move to columbus ohio to not be around like the best fucking lifter i possibly could so there's like a big division there and lots of egos and obviously um you guys saw the
Starting point is 01:08:00 the documentary uh you know there is a big division between night crew morning crew and um it's very fucking weird it doesn't never made sense to me i always like i thought it would be like more of a team like rah rah thing but uh you know yeah so when we got booted night crew got booted we just kind of took the name with us and um and it stuck so it's all over the gym where we're at now we train at doghouse gym in groves city and it's like night crew banners and fucking stickers and you know all over the place it looks sick and uh we now that's kind of people know our group as that whereas like at west side it was kind of like the west side big shadow and then like night crew and morning crew and now it seems
Starting point is 01:08:42 like you know people know us as night crew, like at WPL and they announce us. It's like, you know, so-and-so out of doghouse gym, night crew member, whoever, you know, and it's sick, dude. I'm very grateful to be a part of that group of people. And my wife trained with us for a while. She's a savage. She squatted seven, benched 430.
Starting point is 01:09:04 You know, she uh she doesn't train with us anymore but yeah so uh that group of people is fucking sick and um dave really took a chance on me because when i got kicked out the first time uh he was helping me a lot and stayed in contact with me when i went and trained down in cincinnati for like nine months and then he got me re-invited back, basically told Louie, like, he's going to come back and his wife's coming too. And it's a package deal. And there was like, just no, you know, Louie, okay. Or whatever. So I'm,
Starting point is 01:09:35 I'm super grateful for that opportunity to be with those people. I think the problem is Westside probably needs to take a page out of the Masonomics playbook because we bridge the morning crew to the night crew. We have a very strong noon crew presence, and I think that they kind of bridge the gap there. That's funny. That's what I was going to say, too. We do have this funny thing that we've stolen from, like,
Starting point is 01:09:57 the documentary where we have this. So Massanomics Gym is a – we live in a town of about 25,000 people, and we kind of have, like, the, it's a little club gym, but it's kind of the gym you go to if you're, you know, interested in getting serious about power lifting of any kind or strong man or like you're really like seriously are like, I just really want to get stronger. You'd probably come here, but because our population's pretty small, it's not a huge group of people. It's still pretty small and tight knit. You know small it's not a huge group of people it's still pretty small and tight knit it's like a club we do have this funny thing though where we
Starting point is 01:10:32 started calling so we've got the morning crew the mid morning crew, the noon crew the early afternoon crew, the late and it's just kind of like as a homage to West side like we have all and there's absolutely no animosity of any kind between any of the groups but it's kind of like fun to pretend that there is sometimes we we play it like like ah yeah we're in the noon crew we'll
Starting point is 01:10:55 kick your ass you know like no no co-mingling no co-mingling bro if someone's off their normal schedule like whoa you didn't no one said you could join the new crew. No fucking brunches will be had. Like, this is bullshit. That's so funny. Yeah, dude, stuff like that's sick, though. Like, being able to laugh at yourself like that, that's awesome.
Starting point is 01:11:15 You guys do a great job with that shit. Oh, that's cool. What is it like training with Dave Hoff? Is that... He's a savage, dude. I mean, yeah, I like... What is it like training with Dave Hoff? He's a savage, dude. I mean, yeah, Dave is a very unique dude. One of the more unique guys that I've had the pleasure to train with. But he's just like, Dave's on another level. So when you see someone floor press five
Starting point is 01:11:48 plates for like a set of eight and then stand up and be like oh I've never done that before you're like what the fuck like you know I've seen the guy do you know 1100 pound board presses I've seen him bench seven and change off the three board raw like like lots of stuff. Um, and the fact that he's been doing it for so long, it's, you know, he's big dog. Let's put it. There's definitely like a pecking order. Like we're doing what Dave wants to do. Um, and he's earned that right, man. I mean, fuck the guy total 3,100 pounds, like fuck off. Like, it's like, it's ridiculous. Well, like 12, 12 something a thousand and then like 12 something, 1,000, and then like 8 something.
Starting point is 01:12:28 Like 3,100, that's 278 pounds or something. It's crazy. So yeah, training with him is a trip, and he's obviously a master of his craft. I've been really, I don't want to say fortunate, because I've definitely done the legwork to make it happen. But like, I have been fortunate enough to train next to basically the best fucking multiply powerlifters that I've ever walked the planet. Um, on several occasions, you know, I trained under Laura for like nine, uh, nine months. Um, my wife trained under her for like
Starting point is 01:13:01 two years, obviously trained with Louie. So that puts me in the same room as like Luke Edwards, Jake Anderson, you know, all of those guys that have been there forever. And then obviously now with Hoff, it's really cool to like, as a coach, kind of take all of the things that I've learned from these people and kind of put them into my own sort of deal. And then spread that to my clients my friends and like people that i coach um so it's kind of like because i'm older man there's lots of salt on this hall like i've done a lot of shit fucking you know played 13 years of hockey and you know i'm beat up but i'm trying to just give as much of the stuff that i've learned that i've been fortunate enough to take in and give it to other people so that they can pass it on and we can keep this fucking ball rolling.
Starting point is 01:13:49 Yeah. Hell yeah. Yeah. So. No, that's cool. We've got this game. We like to play with every guest.
Starting point is 01:13:56 It's overrated, underrated, and we've got a special big Anthony set of topics for you. So if you're interested in playing, we'll get it rolling and we'll name the topic and then you just have to tell us whether you think it's overrated or underrated, but you can elaborate as much
Starting point is 01:14:12 or as little as you want. You just have to say overrated or underrated. You can't write the line in between. So it's binary scale. It's one or zero. Yep, exactly. And that's what makes the game the game. Is this okay?
Starting point is 01:14:28 All right. Hey, listen, I signed up for it. We're at the dance right now. Let's do it. You'll like it. You'll like it. It's good. All right.
Starting point is 01:14:37 Overrated or underrated box squats. Oh, my God. That's bullshit. That's bullshit. That's a bullshit thing. I think that they are, how about this? Overrated, period, but underutilized
Starting point is 01:14:56 in powerlifting as a whole. So they don't fix everything and not everybody's going to become a great squatter because of box squatting. However, the big argument that people are like, it's not everybody's going to become a great squatter because of box squatting. However, the big argument that people were like, it's not the same movement pattern as a squat. And it's like,
Starting point is 01:15:10 right. And a tricep push down doesn't look anything like a fucking bench. We're not doing this to mimic. Yes. 80% of the lifts you do in the gym, aren't the thing you do in the, you know, I mean, it's like a mechanically similar movement.
Starting point is 01:15:25 It's like, I don't know, do you do leg presses? Do those look like your squats? No. Do they help your squat? Yes. Like, okay. So, yeah, overrated but underutilized. Yeah, I just played you there.
Starting point is 01:15:36 That might be the best I've seen anyone gaming in the system. Sure. Overrated or underrated gauged ears oh fuck um so yeah have you ever had earrings
Starting point is 01:15:54 I've never had my ears pierced neither have I so we're coming from no experience whatsoever just so mine are an inch and five eighths so like I've gone past people like are those a double zero I'm like I, are those a double zero? I'm like, I haven't had a double zero in like 15 years,
Starting point is 01:16:08 buddy. So they're huge. I can actually take them out and fold my earlobes over the top of my ear. So I can put a, I can put a beanie on like in like, uh, in the winter. And it looks like I don't have plugs. Like,
Starting point is 01:16:20 like fold up my, but, uh, I would say, I would say they are over overrated okay overrated uh i'm not underrated they're dope fuck it no that's that's cool how can you go bigger than what yours are right now then like where's the limit i tried well i haven't stretched them in like a very long time like years and years
Starting point is 01:16:43 and years and years i went off a, and the bottom of my earlobe started to turn purple and go necrotic, and my mom's a nurse. She's like, Anthony, don't. Go back. So I just dropped them down a size, and they were better. After a while, doesn't it run out of flesh?
Starting point is 01:17:01 Yeah, yeah, of course. You get the weird uh i have friends who have like stretched them poorly or too fast and then the bottom gets thin and it breaks and then you get you have like these two like wobbly like they look like the mouth of the things from like district nine like it's just like blah like these two little like gummy worms hanging out here it's awful looking um i actually my my old man offered to pay to get them stitched and put back together like my ears back to normal when i was like maybe 20 and uh i said fuck that and then there were times when i
Starting point is 01:17:38 was making i said there were times when i was like making no money at all and i was like fuck i should have done that and i could get a real job but now I don't have a boss so fuck it yeah exactly overrated or underrated slayer overrated not into it never have been
Starting point is 01:18:01 like it's cool but I like the imagery more than the music for sure uh-huh um and i can appreciate what they did for like heavy music but like overrated not into it are you are you like the hardcore scene is that what yeah that's what i came up in more so but like uh i've always loved like that i've you know i love all sorts of music dude like i love like 80s like synth pop i fucking love like blue grassy stuff as well but like i i've made things like hardcore and metal and um yeah slayer was never my never my shit seen him a couple times and it was wild to like to see them live but i would never like put on like i put on the
Starting point is 01:18:46 beginning of rain and blood because the first riff is dope and then the rest i'm like all right fuck this uh and so what's your bet like do you do vocals for like have you been in some bands and stuff like i we picked some stuff up we didn't know the exact like are you currently what what's uh yeah so uh i was in like a couple of like i was in like a beat down hardcore band and then i was in like uh sort of like a artsy dramatic hardcore band and then uh now i'm in this this this group called void watcher and we uh this this dude adrian hit me up during lockdown and was like hey like he's in australia and he's like i have these four songs for this demo i would love for you to do vocals on it i love your old music i found it online
Starting point is 01:19:29 whatever and i was like sick and i hadn't done vocals in like almost 10 years and uh i had to like re-find my voice i had to get like all this equipment i had to buy this equipment that like during shutdown it's like coming from china so obviously that was a fucking shit show and we make this four song demo and it like it came out really good i was really happy with it and uh and then we did a full length and it's just me and him he programs the drums and then we just got a uh an actual drummer who's in la and uh i just like maybe three or four days ago got all of the finished tracks for our next full length i have to do the vocals like in the next couple months so have you actually met any of these guys in person yet no that's pretty insane yeah it's really cool and it helps with like the creative
Starting point is 01:20:17 process quite a lot because like adrian has basically all the input on how the guitars and bass go now and then um justin like he does the drum stuff and then it comes to me and like i have full reign on like what i want to do lyrically uh you know tempo and and all this stuff so it's like really cool because it's uh are you guys music nerds like if said genres, would you know what I was talking about? Tommy would know better than me. I might. I might. So it's like basically like if you took like a djent or like newer metalcore band and it kind of married like old like agnostic front like hardcore. Yep. But it still has like these kind of big breakdowns and then like really like kind of almost like pop punk, like BB fast parts too.
Starting point is 01:21:07 So people say that it's really unique. There was actually like a ska reggae, like little break in the last record on the last song. It was really cool. So it's just like, it's weird. It's weird as fuck, but yeah, the new, the new record's much heavier. I'm really excited. And I like having that creative outlet. I don't think being artsy or creative
Starting point is 01:21:27 is something that's super celebrated, particularly multiplied. No, I would say not. But having a chance to, just as a really kind of a soft story that I like sharing, the last song on the first demo um i called it 800 miles west and uh that's how how many miles it is from new hampshire to ohio um and on me and my wife's
Starting point is 01:22:00 one year anniversary uh we got in the car to go to the restaurant and i was able to play the song i wrote the song for her and and uh the the musical like interlude in the middle i spoke our wedding vows in spoken word in the middle of the song so it's like this like kind of heavy song and then the middle has this like real light part and i had that so i wrote the whole song about her it was like really sick she She was stoked. She was stoked. What if eventually you meet the other members of the band you're in now, one of them's an 11-year-old kid? He didn't know all the time.
Starting point is 01:22:32 Well, he'd be fucking... He is hype on the drums, bro. It just shows up and it's like, yeah, some 14-year-old... It's kind of like the catfish thing. Like, what the fuck? Or it's some old-ass dude.
Starting point is 01:22:50 Some guy living in a holler somewhere. He's like 60 and like with a spittoon. Yeah, yes, yes. That's cool. Okay. Last one here. Overrated or underrated? Bob Evans restaurant.
Starting point is 01:23:04 Oh. Alright. Last one here, overrated or underrated, Bob Evans restaurant. Oh. All right. I don't know if people rate it high, but I would say overrated. Listen, I was obviously, I have to say this part, I was super grateful that Louie bought me breakfast four days a week for two years. That's great. Okay, now that I've said that, period, I didn't know that eggs could be greasy and dry at the same time like it got to it got to the point where uh i would go and i would order two eggs over medium
Starting point is 01:23:39 um an order of hash browns one pancake an order of bacon a chocolate milk a coke and a water right that would be like my breakfast and i would take like four bites of each thing i'd be like i'm gonna eat this till it makes me feel sick okay i'm done with that one all right i mean so i i just like i couldn't sit there and like eat a whole pancake because it just made my stomach flip it was brutal uh so i would say if people dude if people rate it high i would say overrated but i don't think that's very common so i'm not really sure we don't have we don't have the pleasure of having those in our part of the country so we've never got to experience it well if you come out for like the arnold or some shit uh just like just do it just do it and then text me after do people show up to that bob evans like wanting to run into louis oh man i've seen some pretty weird stuff
Starting point is 01:24:37 you know yeah it's like uh i think sometimes people miss the fact of like who and what they're dealing with with that whole thing it's like it's pretty serious like those breakfasts weren't like ha ha like laughing like not like us out here yeah not real triumphant feeling not not at all like you just sat there and just like so yeah like everything's just like whoa you know um like if i could describe the conversation i would say gray you know what i mean like so but yeah definitely like people would show up or uh you know i actually like some of the people that i still coach like i met when they came and visited West side and like some of the guys that were kind of brush them off.
Starting point is 01:25:26 And I just walk right up and be like, what's up dude? How you doing? Like whatever, like I coach people, like reach out to me. Like, you know,
Starting point is 01:25:33 I'd love to help you. And I've like met a bunch of people that way because you know, if people came in all of a sudden it was like tough guy time or whatever. And you know how it goes. And, and same thing with breakfast it was like the ones i didn't feel bad for grown adults when they would come in and kind of get brushed off or treated awkward it's like always weird though and like uh like a football coach
Starting point is 01:25:54 would show up with like three 12 year old boys and it's like dude like know your audience you know what i mean like uh it was just that was always kind of weird but um yeah i kind of took like kind of sidebar uh i don't know if you guys have a time limit here but a sidebar for this uh i took like a lot of what i do my first trip to si to visit um we were talking on the way home my coach at the time that brought me this guy, Brian selfies. And we were talking about how, like we went in there and we're treated with more respect and shown more and
Starting point is 01:26:35 giving more advice than you would get in like any gym. And we kind of made this like pact with each other. We're like, all right, like if they can do that, if Louie can give out this much free shit and free information we can do that too and we can be people who you know you don't let people take advantage of you of course because this is how i put food on my table but that's part of the thing that made me like decide to be like i'm gonna put out free information for
Starting point is 01:27:01 people if they want more than that then they can pay and they can get the full thing but i want to make sure that like if someone doesn't know shit about powerlifting they come to the trigger warning page and start at the first post and work their way to the top they're gonna know a lot about powerlifting and they're gonna know like so i took that that part of the whole like west side thing and that part of the model and i really try to like stay true to that as i've as we've like grown the brand and all that shit, because, um, you know,
Starting point is 01:27:28 the only reason you wouldn't tell someone how better way to bench press is you're scared that they're going to outbench you. Yeah. You know what I mean? So I try to like put a lot out there, but that's something that I took from Lou and the whole situation there. Oh,
Starting point is 01:27:40 that's cool. Yeah. Well, good news. You passed overrated, uh, underrated.rated you did good job so congratulations sweet dude hey i i appreciate that uh that's really nice you guys so let me ask you guys something i'm gonna flip it on you so uh like so you've been doing this
Starting point is 01:28:03 shit for a long time like how long has this podcast been going on? How many years has it been going on? About five and a half. This is our 283rd week without ever missing a week. Dude, that's sick. That's fucking sick. It's insane. That's a grind, dude.
Starting point is 01:28:17 It's real, dude. That's real. Grind is a good word. So have you guys You know I've obviously Listened to some of the shows but there's no way I could Fucking consume all of that since two weeks ago We don't need anyone to ever Listen to it all
Starting point is 01:28:32 If people haven't like they're like oh I'll go check Oh god there's 283 I don't know where to start I'll just not do that So like have you guys Had people come on And be like Shitty about the Raw the raw versus multiply thing from the raw side of things? Like, has that gotten to you guys? Like, has there been, like, you don't have to say names or whatever, but have people come on and been, like, the, like, edgelord who would be like, multiply, ply like on your platform or now?
Starting point is 01:29:06 What I, what I think to it is there's been jokes, you know, and stuff, but nobody that's ever like, I can't even like shitty hard stand on, you know, and there's people that I just know what they think anyways.
Starting point is 01:29:21 So you just didn't spend a lot of time talking about that, you know, like, it's kind of like, well, we're not just going to set you up just to bitch about it for an hour. Plus we don't want to hear people complain about it. So we're not going to let it go there.
Starting point is 01:29:33 Usually if it, have you, have you had, have you had any episodes? Cause I almost had this happen. I didn't end up doing, but have you had any episodes, podcast hosts,
Starting point is 01:29:43 podcast hosts, uh, where, where you, where you own, where you didn't release it because the guest was terrible or like a dickhead? We have never done that. We have not. I would say like we've interviewed enough people. We have had a very wide range of – From super energetic and charismatic to very low key. I mean, you do see,
Starting point is 01:30:06 you really do learn how everyone is built different. And we've interviewed some people that are, like a lot of who we interview are people that are generally liked, like that are like well loved by the people. We have interviewed a few people where that's necessarily the case, but we kind of go into it knowing that
Starting point is 01:30:26 and we you know and like uh no i don't think we've ever had one where we've even really thought that that we wouldn't wouldn't put it out there once we've done it no yeah i don't think we've ever had to even have that discussion and also to be even more honest like we've went this many weeks without never not having a new episode on monday We would almost do whatever it takes to make sure that streak stays. And also I don't want to have to record a second episode each for the week to make it work. So like, it's like,
Starting point is 01:30:55 now we'll make it work. Yeah. If that ever did happen, it would be like, okay, I guess we'll just cut out the guests and we'll just talk longer. Right. Right.
Starting point is 01:31:02 Sure. Yeah. I got nervous one time and almost did it. And I was curious if that was a thing you had experienced. We're like on the show and stuff like we don't talk about politics and stuff like that. And every once in a while people will go that way. And like our loyal fans, it's a running joke even that we just kill it when it happens. You swerve it.
Starting point is 01:31:23 There'll just be an awkward pause and then we'll ask a different question. We'll just completely take it. Beautiful, dude. The joke is, so we have this game we like to play and then that's when we go into over... when someone's maybe starting to get going. They'll get going on something really serious and intense
Starting point is 01:31:39 and we'll be like, so we have this game we like to play called Overrated and Underrated. You know? Oh, that's fucking great yeah fuck yeah great way to take it back no i mean we'll i'm sure it'll it like it's a lot of averages at some point well now i just wish i acted up more motherfuckers i could have been your i could have been your first i could have you i could have lined you up for some awesome content where you motherfuck every one of my guys that commented on that post you guys would have drama to post about for days uh no to be honest this is a great episode and we kind of knew it would be because like i don't think we've ever
Starting point is 01:32:21 interviewed someone that like also does podcasting and stuff you can't kind of if you've done more than five podcasts well then you probably know how to at least talk on a microphone and tell a story a little bit and so yeah whenever it's like okay we get to talk to someone that does a podcast you know life is going to be easier right right right it does make it easy fucking right yeah well that's what my uh my wife said now i get to be honest i was like man i'm a little a little nervous man i don't know i haven't been on someone else's i haven't been on someone else's uh podcast in a while and she's like dude you fucking record podcasts all the time it is way different though it is way different feeling being on someone else's
Starting point is 01:32:59 than controlling your own it is way different yeah you kind of like like sit back and let it happen to you which isn't something you're used to. No, I'm not good at that. I don't know if you guys are very type A. So it's like, what are we doing? You messaged me. I'm like, are there rules? What am I like? Like, well, what are we
Starting point is 01:33:18 doing now? Does it start recording as soon as I pick up the phone? Well, I appreciate you guys having me on. This was great. This lot of fun I'm glad uh I'm glad everyone harassed us in the comments on that post and we got to let us get on here so um they they did their job well so can I uh can I plug can I that's what that's what's gonna say especially you know podcast your coaching, apparel, any of that. Make sure everyone knows where they find any of that stuff.
Starting point is 01:33:48 Yeah, so my personal page is just AnthonyCW13. And that's just like training and my dogs and stuff and my wife and whatever and my poor, shitty golfing. And then the business, though, is business though is a trigger underscore warning underscore conjugate. If you can't find it or whatever, just search the hashtag, stay hated. And it comes up. Um,
Starting point is 01:34:14 I do coaching. I have a Patreon page that has like a bunch of different levels of subscription from like $3 and 50 cents a month to 40 a month. And it's like, you know, there's programming and extra bunch of extra content. There's like hours and hours and hours of content on there. Um, and programming and whatever. Uh, and then the last thing that I just wanted to put out, cause you said this is coming out Monday. Yeah. Yep. Yep. Yeah. So, um, my dog just had a huge surgery and she had a bunch of cancer taken out of her face.
Starting point is 01:34:47 They took out probably like a third of the side of her face. Um, this big thing, she's doing pretty well now we're going to be doing, um, shirts for, to raise money for, uh, like cancer research and dogs. Um, so people want to like, I know you guys said you wouldn't want any serious real serious this is not what we meant but uh yeah yeah so we want to do like uh we got these shirts drawn up we've done shirts with her on the front before like people call her like powerlifting's most popular dog um she's a long-haired pit bull like we got her dna done she has long hair but she's a pit it's awesome anyway um so yeah so we're doing t-shirts that are gonna um you know like three dollars from
Starting point is 01:35:32 every shirt is gonna go towards cancer research for dogs so just keep an eye out for that we're gonna do a pre-order so everybody can get them if they want them and they're dope they're like a uh kind of a ripoff of an old, like a notorious BG shirt. Okay. That's her face. It's fun. They're fucking dope. I know you guys like to like rip shirts and stuff,
Starting point is 01:35:49 but I love that. And so, yeah, it's sort of something like that. So if you want to keep your eye out for that, that'd be great. Oh, that's awesome.
Starting point is 01:35:57 That's good stuff. And everyone, especially the TWC community, stay on the lookout for maybe an update to our podcast list article. Yeah. You just got to keep grinding for another year so you can be around. Well, I'll say, I'll say this too, so that it's in the ether. Like you guys are going to come on my podcast and I'm going to interview
Starting point is 01:36:17 YouTube. Yeah. So we'll do that like in the next week or so, so you can get that out because I would love to have you guys on. Cause I think there's probably, like I said, like the crossover between the two could be really cool. I think there's probably some people that didn't yell at you on the internet.
Starting point is 01:36:34 That may have not listened to the podcast before. And so that'll be good for you guys too. I'd love to have you on. Excellent. That sounds great. So we appreciate it. This was good stuff. Yeah, no problem, guys. You let me know if you need any advice on multiply,
Starting point is 01:36:49 because I know after this, you're going to be really tempted to jump in it. Hey, it might happen someday. Like you said, it's either retirement or, you know, and there's two paths probably. So well, I hope I see you in a venture. Right on. All right. Thanks, man. All right, guys. Take care. Thanks, Anthony. See ya.
Starting point is 01:37:10 Well. Hey. Tommy. Cool beans. Cool beans. Beans. Cool beans. Got the double cool beans. Got the cool beans.
Starting point is 01:37:19 That was good. That was a fun one. That was very good. It is always really fun doing podcasts with people that podcast. That, it makes it very easy and it does like what we said all the multi-ply quote-unquote multi-ply guys have been really great interviews i think they have been yeah i have been should i asked him about uh helping us out maybe see if uh hoff will get on sometime not sure if that would be his cup of tea
Starting point is 01:37:40 or not but if he's interested it would be we could i'm sure we could take a swing at it for sure tell him we have a box of seafoam with some persuade him with some seafoam connections two cans not one of the hats maybe a sticker no that was fun though like it's like a conversation like that it's just funny that that is the first time we've ever talked to that person in our entire lives you know right it was like an hour and it went by really fast we could have talked to him for two hours and i was gonna say and that felt like we just barely got started oh gosh yeah um should we hit him with a spud i think i think we should hit him hit him hard with the old spud ink and we don't have a timeline on spud ink though the problem there is we don't have a timeline we'll make do the best we can um just're going to work. We're going to talk with Spud a
Starting point is 01:38:27 little more and maybe we'll see if we can't drum up a timeline from them. I bet we can. If I had to pick a company that probably has a good timeline, I would say Spud Inc. Spud Inc. would have a good timeline. Yes. Is going to be right in that. Yeah. I think you're absolutely right. Now, if I could just get this, this here okay tanner i think i think the ad's ready all right i think the ad loader is loading it doesn't it doesn't how many dates does it have in it um no dates but there's a few numbers okay does that count yeah close enough okay today's episode of the mass comics podcast is also brought to you by the spud inc ballers bar the ballers bar is made only from the pimpest arm is made only for the pimpest
Starting point is 01:39:08 arm and back training the bar takes the standard curl bar and combines it with four strategically placed two and three quarter inch balls the first set is right at the first bend of a regular curl bar and the second set is on the ends unlike a regular curl bar the first bend on the bar is much harder for bigger guys and people with minimal supination in the biceps slash shoulder mobility to grip and use. The first set allows for easier and more comfortable grip by cupping the bar with the palm, creating a different training angle for bicep training. The end set allow for a much wider curl around 36 inches. The straight parts of the bar are also longer than a conventional curl bar, allowing for more training positions and again highlighting the more manageable grips. They have the same angle as a regular curl bar in most instances. With the additional width of the bar
Starting point is 01:39:55 at 38 inches total and the space allows for fabulous tricep and back training as well. At a super light 5.9 pounds pounds the bar is much easier to handle and attached to a much larger number of pulleys and cable machines ball out with the ballers bar you can check out the ballers bar online at spud-ink-straps.com i do you know i might have to buy one of those for the gym like i looked at them kind of like it's kind of surprising me we don't have yeah we don't have that as i was as i was uh i was consuming that advertisement i was thinking just why don't we have one of those i think we'll get a baller i think there'd be a few guys in the gym experience i think there'll be a few guys in the gym that would put that guy to use oh yeah yes absolutely so thank you spud inc we do have a
Starting point is 01:40:41 few uh podcast reviews that we could touch on. So we're on the road to the road. Are we on the road to the road or are we on the road to 400? We're at 367 is our five-star review count. We have 367 five-star reviews. And if you're in the Discord, there's a review bot that will tell you that number whenever you want to know. So do you consider that the road to the road or the road to?
Starting point is 01:41:02 That's really close, isn't it? At like 370, are we on the road? I think 370 is the road. Okay. So just get us a few more and we're on the road to the road or the road to, I think like close, isn't it? Like three 70. Are we on there? I think so. We're three 70 is there. Okay. So just get us a few more and we're on the road to 400. Um, until then,
Starting point is 01:41:11 here's a few that we're going to touch on that we've received here. New favorite podcast. And this was from Peter steals, Dick. I've listened to every episode in the span of two weeks. And even though my brain is made up of 90% piping hot LaCroix, you've managed to become my favorite podcast. Keep the beans cool and the shorts expensive.
Starting point is 01:41:30 Big Caleb. This next one is from Ritz Brits. Endearing. Five out of five stars. From the plains, not the jungle, this podcast gives you some very occasional okay advice on lifting, peppered with western, northeast, South Dakota accents and charm. I like tasting all the sparkling waters, too.
Starting point is 01:41:48 Would give it 5.5 stars if I could to have more women guests. Oh, okay, they want more women's guests. As a lady lifter, I do appreciate all the episodes, though. We're talking about it. We do. We've got a lot we're working with. It's hard to work out our schedules. Scheduling is a nightmare.
Starting point is 01:42:04 Apparently, right now, all the women we're trying to line up scheduling is a major yeah either that or they just don't want to talk or they're just avoiding us yeah um this next one is from b diamond b diamond okay i have a hunch yep yep five out of five stars from b diamond he says uh imagine my surprise when i was searching for a lifting podcast based out of five stars from b diamond he says uh imagine my surprise when i was searching for a lifting podcast based out of aberdeen scotland and somehow discovered this gem from the boys in south dakota i say discovered but it is really discovering if it's a multi jd power very nice very good uh so those are our reviews for this week. Leave us a review if you would.
Starting point is 01:42:48 We do really want to get to that 400 mark. We've got big things planned, of course. Very big things. We do have some big things. Exciting things. Yes. I think merchandise-wise, though, you're wearing the high plains tee. Absolute South Dakota classic. Especially if you're wearing the High Plains tea classic
Starting point is 01:43:06 especially if you're into the reefer it's great for you smoking the wacky weed or if you're into the high plains I always love the pheasant on it the buffalo quick weather update though people have been clamoring for the weather crop update
Starting point is 01:43:24 we do also have a weather pod in the Discord in case you're interested. There is. Yes. It's a weather pod as well. As it ties back to the Discord again. We got some insane hail in, not in Aberdeen. I never, storms never wake me up. When I'm sleeping, I'm sleeping, man.
Starting point is 01:43:39 And twice in this past week, storms woke me up is how crazy it was. We got some hail that absolutely destroyed stuff like i had some friends who it like oh like south of town yeah yeah where it like broke out all the windows of their house and um so cornfields if if maybe you're if you're pretty uh uh if you're not very rural maybe you haven't been out you can say right right like a corn is a very hardy stock plant. Usually stands like, I don't know,
Starting point is 01:44:08 like eight feet tall. It's a very, you know, a good corn field has a tall plant. It, the hail mowed the corn down to below your knees and like completely wiped out the like entire fields where it just literally like. It's a total loss. It looks like a harvested field
Starting point is 01:44:25 you know at that point uh it's it's wild like it's some of the worst tail damage that i've seen before but it some of it was up to like baseball size uh yeah i saw the windshields getting broke out and yeah yeah luckily we didn't get that part of it no we were just like five miles away from it though uh like if it if that would have went through aberdeen there i don't know it would have been like a damn uh like if a tornado went through quite honestly where like the whole city's like we none of us would have windows we must rebuild civilization that's kind of like what it would be like for you know yeah luckily or luckily or not that it wasn't hitting us but in more rural areas like hitting a lot of crops but not
Starting point is 01:45:05 hitting that yeah like civilization right really getting hit right right yeah so that was a weather and crop update wrapped all into one yeah it's been pretty eventful here for that lately god before we podcasted our before we before we got i mean five and a half years ago before we i was just thinking about a time five and a half years ago, before we, I was just thinking about a time, five and a half years ago. Did you like that picture of us? I remember, I remember. That's what I was going to say before,
Starting point is 01:45:29 right before we called Anthony. I'm like, there's something I have to tell Tanner and I have to remember, it'll be perfect for after the podcast. And I'm just sitting here while you're talking, trying so hard to think. And then the second I thought of it, you also brought it up.
Starting point is 01:45:41 The photo from like five years ago that you posted. That was our first video. One of our very, one of our very first video i was wondering like what what actually that came from or not but yeah so you yeah you put a post on instagram uh it was just like a screenshot of what you just said one of our first video in the basement episodes which what would that have been 31 i think um nick ty luki was the first video episode okay so it would have been like the next one after that like in the 30s and it is really funny and someone on instagram made a comment like oh tommy looks really young there or something yeah when i when i showed up to my wife she goes wow you look like a fifth grader there i'm like really like what changed so much i don't
Starting point is 01:46:22 know what the difference is but it is funny how we all do. I feel like considerably different for being five years ago. Yeah. So, because I was doing like a very cheesy. I like Jake Heinrich said it's, it feels like two skateboarder guys are like trying to talk their uncool friend or trying to explain to their uncool friend what a kickflip is or something like that kind of you know like comparing the new picture to the old no like you and tyler talking to me yeah yeah it's like two skateboarders are trying to explain to an on-hip dude what a kickflip is that is really that i laughed at that yeah that's good that's
Starting point is 01:47:03 good stuff so go check out that old picture if you haven't seen it already did you know were you aware of that do you know that that who what that meme is from like that girl you know the interesting it's like the girl sipping her coke looking something on her computer oh yeah the um what's that what's that yeah what the hell is her name uh megan or something like that i cannot disney show i cannot think of her freaking name right now yeah it's always i feel What the hell is her name? Megan or something like that. I cannot. Disney show. I cannot think of her freaking name right now. It's always.
Starting point is 01:47:32 I feel like if people listen to this, they're like, damn, these guys can't think of anyone's name ever. In our defense, it's 1030 on a Wednesday and it's been a long day. That's true. And we just did a banger of a podcast. Thinking of obscure names from Disney child stars is not the easiest thing to remember. You know what i can remember oh hybrid performance method bomb ass yeah it's hybrid performance method they're your solution to strength they have no bullshit training nutrition and education for the hybrid athlete you can get access to proven training programs that have delivered life-changing gains and podium

Code MASS mass at hybrid performance method.com thank you hybrid performance method and thank you to all of our other sponsors from this show we talked about becoming a supporting member please do that massonomics.com join we talked about a couple of shirts i'm wearing the
Starting point is 01:49:00 uh pinup pinup t-shirt we hit on our new release from this last if you're lucky there might be a pair of lift shit shorts left in your size but probably not there's like a couple mediums left okay so if you're a medium person then you're okay otherwise you're out of luck there's those are basically sold out there might be a few raw power tees and there might be a few gym tees yeah out of some sizes but still some and i had my gym tee on the other day tanner i was out in public and i was just waiting to get compliments on it and uh then i saw myself in a mirror and i realized my hair is so long that it basically covers the entire back print and i thought and then it not only doesn't cover the
Starting point is 01:49:41 back print it basically covers the front too so uh I might as well just been wearing a black, a plain black because I was screwing myself over there. So the compliments were not to my level of satisfaction. Yeah. Going to have to wear your hair up next time. I would say I learned my lesson there the hard way. Am I right? When you're right, you're right.
Starting point is 01:50:02 All right. All right. All right. All right. I think that wraps us up for this one like us on Facebook YouTube everywhere TikTok we're TikTok famous we're TikTok famous
Starting point is 01:50:13 we had a video get half a million views found out that did absolutely nothing reassured me that TikTok could have just as well not existed and our lives would be in the same spot. Yes. Really weird, though, that there was half a million, you know, one before it probably has 200 views.
Starting point is 01:50:31 Next one, 500,000. Yeah. TikTok makes zero sense. It is just funny. We talked about how little sense it really all makes. Just how it didn't didn't change. And like sales were no different that day than any other you could almost even say sales were down that day compared
Starting point is 01:50:49 to the days around it and whereas if we have something that's popular on instagram it's actually meaningful for you know it actually makes differences yeah when it's going good like you'll see an uptick almost immediately but yeah uh it made no impact So we'll keep pounding away. Starting point is 01:51:31 You can find me at Tomahawk underscore D. You can follow me at Tanner underscore Baird, but who cares about that? Just make sure to follow Mastonomics at Mastonomics. See ya. We'll see you next time.
