Starting point is 00:00:00 You know, thanks for what you do with your podcasts and all the rest. You're doing a great job. Hope everybody keeps tuning in. You get a lot of good info, a lot of insights, understandings on how to get strong, how to stay strong, how to use your strength. You do a great job, dude. You make things better than they are in real life, I think.
Starting point is 00:00:15 If you don't follow Massanomics, y'all do it. Social media, website, everything. Massanomics! Massanomics! Masanomics! You did the point. Welcome back everyone for episode 300, very special episode, episode 369. Whoa, I didn't even realize that. that yeah 369 uh uh very special uh what would that word be addition or uh what's like a number in a series like because this is the several several weeks of the seven year anniversary
Starting point is 00:00:58 so this is like the um there'd be like a word i'm looking for there. I can't quite think of it. Installment, according to me. Yeah, like an installment. Yeah, I think installment is good. I'm glad he got it because I wasn't quite following there. Yeah, this is the 369th episode, the maybe seventh installment of the seven-year anniversary of the Lifting Podcast about nothing,
Starting point is 00:01:21 recorded live from western northeast South Dakota and eastern southeast South Dakota. My name is tanner and my name is tommy if i had to describe this episode in one word you know what it would be uh saucy that and oh oh i had at least 30 more guesses ready to go i gave it away uh but it is going to be nice, I think. Honestly, it'll be a nice episode. Nice. If anything, I think you'll listen to this episode, you get done, and you go, nice. Nice. I hope so.
Starting point is 00:01:55 This will be the nice. Maybe this will be the niceness episode. The nice one. It'll be kind of like the seriousness episode, only it'll be about niceness. Seriousness episode. Throwback to season one of the Massonomics podcast. That's a way throwback. Deep throwback.
Starting point is 00:02:12 Like 2016. Probably, yeah. We do have a lot of stuff. We have many, many topics we're going to cover today, and also we're going to have some fun. We're going to do some call-in q a so we're going to take some uh so some live callers on the podcast we have people submit their questions and we're going to call a few of them i'm not sure if we we did get quite a few submitted so i'm not
Starting point is 00:02:36 sure if we'll get to everyone because we got a lot of other stuff we're going to talk about too but we'll get it get to uh get to as many as we can. How about that? Sounds great to me. And also, as long as we're talking about great stuff, I want you to make sure to check out Spud Ink Straps. Their website is spud-ink-straps.com. Today's episode is also brought to you by Texas Power Bars. Buddy Caps first started lifting weights in the late 60s and began powerlifting in the mid-70s. At the time, he was working for Image Barbell, building gym equipment. Around 1976, a local machine shop started making Olympic bars for them, calling it the Image Bar. In 1977, Image Barbell became Champion Barbell. It was then that Buddy started looking at the bars with an intent of changing them for the better. In 1979, Buddy bought his first lathe to begin addressing the known issues. And in 1980, his passion, drive, and purpose now had a greater mission. Buddy set out on his own
Starting point is 00:04:16 to make what he believed was the greatest bar he'd ever seen and trained with, and the Texas Power Bar was born. It was strong as a house with the best knurling and was maintenance-free. Hundreds of state, national, international, and world power lifting records have been and continue to be set and broken on the Texas Power Bar. To learn more about Texas Power Bars and buy one of their legendary bars, visit TexasPowerBars.com.
Starting point is 00:04:39 Thanks, Texas Power Bars. Should we hit a topic here before we get to calls? Maybe a topic or two? We got lots of topics. Maybe we'll run through our topics, and if there's any time left, then we'll take some calls. We'll do a call or two. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:56 If there's time. We might not have time for any, actually. Yeah. Let's see. We've got a lot of interesting stuff there. We should probably hit on our new drop, right? Yeah, the new drop, right? I mean, you're putting the tee to work right now.
Starting point is 00:05:10 Yeah, this pocket ain't going to pocket itself. Now is it? No, that looks great. Tanner is just working the pocket on his pocket tee so hard. You know what I like to do? I was doing this at the gym the other day. Actually, I forgot to post the video. Maybe I'll do it again.
Starting point is 00:05:28 And I actually kind of deleted the video. I was walking around like this and getting people with pock i was going around and being like you're on pocket cam yeah so tanner has if you can't see he has a pocket t on the new massonomics working hard pocket t and he had his phone sitting so the camera does poke out of the of the pocket i get you on pocket cam at the gym i'm gonna do some pocket cam this week like a real candid camera type yeah yeah you're you're not just getting filmed you're on pocket cam it's almost like a perverted version you could get some really good conversations i'm sure on on pocket cam yes probably more than what people want to know yeah i'm wearing the denim blue denim blue version where selda got this Yeah, I'm wearing the denim blue version. We've still got this sick puppy in black or denim blue.
Starting point is 00:06:13 My biggest thing is I just don't know which one I like better. Hey, it's like your kids. You don't have to pick. You don't have to pick a favorite. You can like them both equally. So that is our heavyweight. Did we talk about this last week at all a little bit? We did a little little bit, but it's probably worth mentioning. Yeah, that is the heavyweight a hundred percent cotton boxy fit pocket tee with the massonomics patch sewn on to the center of the
Starting point is 00:06:33 left pocket. It's a big old beefy tee. That's right. Get it beefy in here. If you have, if you've noticed, I've wear these all the time now. You wore this in the last episode, so I'm just assuming this has been on for seven straight days and it hasn't came off yet. Actually, this is relevant to people buying it. I did want to do these through a full wash and dry test, and they've been dried on warm or hot or whatever, and they're 100% cotton, so they do shrink down a little
Starting point is 00:07:05 bit uh probably a little bit more than our other teas but they start off as a very bigger very generous generous fit and it still is uh i would classify it that afterwards but the way i like this i like to order it in the same size i would order one of our regular blend teas and then i like the big old beefy fit of it this way that's me you could size down and have it be snugger i suppose but i'm going regular actually you know what i would be i would love to just tell you about how great this merchandise is but unfortunately mine seems to have been lost in the mail so i'm missing out on all the goodness right now where you just have to take your word for it and of course it was the time when i sent like a whole bunch of stuff oh yeah it was it was like a christmas time over here i was pretty
Starting point is 00:07:55 excited for that package and i go and of course it's mia yeah so to be determined if tommy ever gets himself a couple pocket tees or not maybe if i'm lucky so that's the first item those are the first items that people already knew about uh next up on the list uh can i pick sure oh no yeah i want to see that i haven't seen that one yet yes oh yeah you haven't yeah i haven't seen that one at all yet whip that thing out camera oh just depending on what we're at it just barely streamers are whoa you can see this here we got the massonomics leather patch hat lift hard live easy massonomics apparel company uh it's the classic mesh trucker hat it's on a richardson hat yeah yeah the the
Starting point is 00:08:49 trucker back got kind of that outdoorsy look to it yep it's uh the two-tone trucker cap back being black mesh is black and front is gray and the patch is the classic leather of course brown leather with my new favorite hat with our logo burned right into it yep although since when i um you know since i grew my hair out i never really know how to wear hats anymore because it's not like wearing hats the way i used to it is different i haven't completely i don't hats don't wear as well for me with my hair now as when I have it a little bit shorter. So waiting for that sweet haircut I get someday to really enjoy this new hat. Because this is my new favorite Mastodonics hat.
Starting point is 00:09:33 Quality looks great on that thing. It is quality. The patch is sewn on. You know, it's not ironed on. It's actually stitched into the hat. I don't know if that's coming across in video at all there. You can kind of see it. But she's a quality unit, this new hat. My new favorite Mastodonics hat.
Starting point is 00:09:51 But I would mention do not buy our hats. Yeah, there were several comments here. Eddie says, is it back in black? Technically, the back is black, so he's not wrong. And Kevin does say that the mesh lets the farts right through. He does have a bit of a point there too you'll just have to find out about that i would argue that the scent will still stick with it quite well sit right in those fibers yeah you were going to get to find out
Starting point is 00:10:16 tommy with your first uh hat ship to you i know i was excited i wonder those farts are trapped somewhere between aberdeen and sioux falls yeah i was ready to be on the receiving end of that, but who knows? Maybe my package will show up someday. And then the last item in the drop, and this... Should we do a... Maybe we could do a Fulfillment Center tour. Yeah, why?
Starting point is 00:10:40 What do you got going on there? Well, just as we go over to check out the last item of the drop, we can go to it a little bit versus me coming into bringing it to the podcast. This is, this is what I'm very excited for here. We have, it's so funny watching the screen rotate. Uh, all right. And then what's in the deep, the deep nether regions. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:02 Is this going to mess up the video? Uh, well, it depends. Is that other camera move with it or not the top camera yep they're both moved okay well then so i don't know if you can anyone's been able to tell yet what we got going on off over here i'm a little out of the lighting and everything but you can also see you have a good selection of uh well i don't know what you can see or can't but we do have a good selection of, well, I don't know what you can see or can't, but we do have a good selection of all-go-no-show tees down here yet. Those are on sale right now. Yeah, we won't talk about those.
Starting point is 00:11:33 But the new item. The last item is the Massanomics Windbreaker. Yeah. And it's a two-tone. We got black sleeves, black top, and camel body. And, man. We got the hood. Yeah, we got black sleeves black top and camel body and man the hood yeah we got the logo we got the hood we got the logo on the left chest and the back we got massonomics extra large across the shoulders this i like this freaking thing is freaking sweet i've been wearing mine uh it's like perfect weather to be wearing this thing too. I know.
Starting point is 00:12:06 That's why I was so excited. It's so windbreaker weather right now, and I would love to have one of those, but I guess you just got to play the waiting game. These are really, really nice. Sizing on these, I wear a 2XT, and I've been wearing around a 2X of this. I suppose it depends on the way you like it to fit. I could also wear a 3X of this if I wanted it bigger. But they do run longer than our hoodies, that's for sure, right? Yeah, I would say a little longer than the hoodies that we've had this last year.
Starting point is 00:12:38 So that windbreaker is pretty nice. Yeah. So this is the working hard drop. We got the working hard tees we got the windbreaker for when you're outside working hard we got the outdoorsy looking cap outdoorsy richardson cap oh yeah yeah i'm back i don't know if you know this but i'm back now yeah back i hope everyone enjoyed the tour from the deep corner of the fulfillment center there. Yep, we're back. So that's the drop, right?
Starting point is 00:13:07 Yeah, I'm excited about all those. And it's the working hard drop? As of right now, we might come up with a better idea overnight. And that comes out Thursday. Well, as you're listening to this, it's already out. Buy the stuff, damn it. Yeah, go on our website. Get it all.
Starting point is 00:13:24 While you're there, get a drink spot or two yep okay should we do a call uh yeah i don't know why not i'm actually gonna crack into a cold one here i'm very thirsty i'm gonna crack into what do you got over there what's in the can segment i have a cherry or cranberry lime someone said this this is the larry legend drop That's also good because Larry is pretty excited about all the items in this drop. He saw that windbreaker and he was like, oh yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:52 Whenever he likes something he likes it because he's like could you get me one of those? He works through the back channel to get his items. He does work through the back channels. He doesn't like to use the internet so we go around a different channel to get his items. He does work through the back channels. He doesn't like to use the internet, so we go around a different route for Larry's items.
Starting point is 00:14:13 Larry's a man that likes to pay in cash. You make him put a money order in, right? Yeah. That's a very bold what's-in-the-can segment you have here, Tanner. Mine's what's-in-the-cardboard box. An atkins dark chocolate royale yeah something i found in our oh i should have shake i went did i shake this i don't think i shook it does it even need to be she actually drank those things i don't it was i think my wife has them or something oh so have you had this before ever though oh yeah oh i mean i've had a couple of them that's what i was getting at is if this is
Starting point is 00:14:43 a first time ever or no i've had a handful of these in the last couple of years because they're around sometimes and I have it. But it tastes good. I mean, all these things people get. So I this is my soapbox that I've gone over a hundred times with the podcast. But people get bent out of shape on flavor of protein drinks. And I'm like, eh, they all are fine. It's more texture.
Starting point is 00:15:09 I think that anything is can, is the texture palatable. And then we're just talking different levels of chocolateness. This has 15 grams of protein, one sugar, five grams of fiber, 160 calories. Pretty low calorie. Ain't much there. Would you say it's guilt-free? It tastes good, but I like all this shit. And also, okay, this is one more quick tangent on this.
Starting point is 00:15:43 I'm not that picky about a lot of stuff like this another thing i uh my wife and i went out to eat uh a few nights ago we actually don't do that very often we went to 322 lounge which is the first time i've been there since we went to big chad there yeah and uh we got our food or something and my wife tried mine i tried hers that's customary uh i don't know if you guys do that but that's pretty customary for us is sampling each other's it depends on the day but yeah it does happen yeah often and uh she goes oh your fries are cold and i'd eaten like what did i have i had had sweet potato wedges, something like that. I can't remember what exactly it was. And I had eaten half of them and never had it once crossed my mind that they were cold.
Starting point is 00:16:33 And then after she said that, I was like, oh, I guess. You know, and she was, like, insulted that they were so cold. And to me, like, I have literally never eaten, gotten something at a restaurant and thought, oh, this is cold. I'm pissed. But I go out with other people and I hear that like 50% of the time. I like, oh, you're fried. If I had a nickel for every time I heard someone say, oh, the fries are cold. And I don't even know the difference.
Starting point is 00:16:57 I cannot. I honestly don't even really expect fries to be hot. It just is like if they're hot, it's almost a surprise. It's just like, yeah, I don't know. These are like room temperature to whatever yeah i just i'm never there for the fries though like that's just right you know me too maybe that's part of my thing but i've never once gave a shit like it doesn't it doesn't they don't even taste better to me that if they're hot i think they are better hot but yeah they probably are, but I just don't even care. It's not, it's not worth the conversation of sending them back and being that person.
Starting point is 00:17:31 Yeah. But I just had the thought at the time that I've like, I have never thought that like I wouldn't need the throat would not even cross my mind that that's an issue. Yeah. I wouldn't go there either. Okay. I finished mine already yeah so uh bubbly you know bubbles yeah bubbly is not a slam yeah it's too uh too much all right let's get uh one of our guests on the horn one of our many guests i'm just going to go down the list of how they were submitted. This first one we're going to try is
Starting point is 00:18:07 Big Evan. I don't know if he's been on before. We'll try him. I'll tell you, Tommy, when it's go time. It's worked before that I could just click on these. Let's try it again. There we go.
Starting point is 00:18:34 Okay. Let's see if to get some groceries for the week and some guy's car's just going off i don't know i don't know what's going on if you haven't figured out by now you are live on the podcast the mass dynamics podcast with tanner and tommy wow i was actually driving down here today it was like man i really hope that they call me and i'm at the beach on the mass and i'm is this is this currently wearing massonomics absolutely what what uh what massonomics are you wearing today i'm wearing the uh the red varsity classic yeah yeah underrated underrated oh absolutely a nice going out shirt
Starting point is 00:19:40 for sure yeah that's good what do you think tommy going out oh for sure the red pops like that t definitely pops too that one if any t pops it's that one oh for sure uh big evan did you have a question for us at all today yeah i did and i was really thinking i was like man if they call me i'm gonna forget but i did remember okay so if the wrestler on WWE, The Big Show, if he were to be a guest on the podcast, what would he be called? Would he be called just The Big Show, or would he be called Big Big Show? That's an interesting question. Okay, wow, giving us a mental exercise.
Starting point is 00:20:19 Yeah, absolutely. Tommy, what do you think about that? I kind of think he'd be The Big Big Show, wouldn't he? I think so. I think so. He would just have to be. Because his name is the Big Show. Correct.
Starting point is 00:20:33 But is it Big? Would you say, all right, we've got Big Big Show, or would you say Big the Big Show? Because is his name The Big Show, or is it Big Show? See, I looked it up. I just looked up on Google Big Show, and it didn't have See, I looked it up. I just looked up on Google Big Show and it didn't have the in front of it because I also thought it was the.
Starting point is 00:20:49 Because that gets weird. I think you say Big The Big Show. Yeah, that doesn't roll quite as nice. Yeah, for sure. We would go Big Big Show. Yeah, I like Big Big Show. That's good. Yeah, that's what I was thinking too.
Starting point is 00:21:01 Okay. Well, Evan, we appreciate your question. Great question. You were the first question too, Okay. Well, Evan, we appreciate your question. Great question. You were the first question too, so you just kicked this thing off with a bang. Oh, wow. That's awesome. All right. Thanks, Big Evan.
Starting point is 00:21:14 Enjoy the beach. All right. Thank y'all. All right. Appreciate it. Y'all have a good one. You too. See ya.
Starting point is 00:21:19 It really goes to show life is a beach, isn't it, Tommy? Life's a beach. Dig it. Isn't that what they say? It's like that show, Beaches. I think that's a show life is a beach isn't it tommy life's a beach dig it isn't that what they say it's like that show beaches i think that's a show king of the beach uh that sounds right that was a show back in the day jersey shore now that was a show that was also very much a show all right should we call another person this is fun fun. I forgot how fun this is. I love calling people and then being surprised. I should have asked, but I feel like Big Evan has not been on the show before.
Starting point is 00:21:52 I don't think so. I don't remember him. Nope. I mean, he definitely wasn't at the beach the last time. He did great, though. He had a presence for podcasting. I could feel he was a natural. The way his voice just tickled my eardrums was just something else it tickled all sorts of parts of me
Starting point is 00:22:11 all right next is uh big david i think we got here should we give big david one of the davids anyways get it one of the davids going or we'll try at least we'll see how many people don't hello oh is this one of the big davids this is one of them i had to drop off the zoom okay yeah this is like a radio show now where we have to say now uh please make sure to turn your radio down in the background we We're getting an echo. Exactly. I feel like, judging by your voice, you're not the UK David. It's possible.
Starting point is 00:22:52 I might just have a white accent. You've really become... Americanized. Yeah, colonized or whatever. Yep. Okay. Big David, you are live on the Massonomics Podcast with Tanner and Tommy. Have you ever been before?
Starting point is 00:23:10 Yeah, for the last call-in. Okay. What was your question then? Oh, okay. It's a good one. It was, have you watched The Wire yet? The answer has not changed, Big David. the answer is still no uh good question again though do you have a question for us this time yeah i'm glad i didn't waste it again but uh
Starting point is 00:23:34 so this time i was wondering if you could give us details of the next contest that's interesting that's a good question that is well actually you'll it's a relevant question because Tanner and I were just talking about this this morning. Yeah, we had a meet, we had a, we had a called a all heads meeting this morning to discuss the next contest. There's a lot of rundowns and everything going on. I, in true Mastodonics fashion, of course we can't spill the cool beans quite yet. But could we say anything fun about it that won't give anything away? Well, it's kind of like two moving pieces here. And one's really up in the air. But the other part is fairly concrete.
Starting point is 00:24:21 I'm trying to think of what we can. I was going to say one word, but I didn't want to give the whole thing away. Yeah, I know. I don't want... I would say one of the things we're working on, it's tied together. There's a whole bunch of moving parts that all...
Starting point is 00:24:34 There's a contest. There's something, a crew perk. There's... Monetary compensation involved. There's a drop. We're doing this whole thing where it's all tied in together. So it'll be fun, and it will be a type of contest, competition that everyone can get involved in
Starting point is 00:24:54 and anyone could win. Sounds good. I would say that. How's that, Big David? Sounds good. Would you say that it hearkens? Yeah, it does, actually. There is actually some hearkening.
Starting point is 00:25:06 This contest does do some hearkening. We're not just saying that either. No, somewhat joking aside, that is a good word to put around this contest, actually. Sounds good. Is that cryptic enough? All right, thank you. All right, see ya.
Starting point is 00:25:24 Jeez, these guys are naturals. they're asking to just let us unmute them so i can try tanner we can see yeah so we talked about that right beforehand yeah we did i'm already in my mind what's the the problem is yeah the problem is when we Zoom, when we unmute people, it puts one of our tracks on the Zoom track. So that kind of messes up our editing. Yeah, it messes up our editing because right now when we do a phone call, it splits the phone call into its own track. But for example, right now, if we called Big David and I unmuted him, it would put Big David and Tanner together on my track, and then I would also have to overlay Tanner's actual real track. It just creates a lot of editing nightmares.
Starting point is 00:26:14 That's why, yeah, we haven't done it yet. So maybe there's workarounds for that, that at some point in time we could do it that way, but that's not our ideal method as of yet, right? Yeah, we're just keeping it simple, yes. Keep it simple stupid. I'm not calling anyone stupid, but it's just like a little clever thing.
Starting point is 00:26:34 It's the KISS method. Big Nate was wondering if it picked up in the recording because Jeff didn't. Jeff did pick up in the recording. I just don't use that track. Right. Sometimes I have no snare in my headphones, and I. Right. Sometimes I have no snare in my headphones and I have to tell Tommy I have no snare in my headphones.
Starting point is 00:26:50 And then big Jeff notifies us that he'll just be back up after his thing and then it all works out. Okay, should we call someone else? Let's keep it rolling. Another call. We'll skip around on the list on this one throw them off oh you've reached the voicemail of Eddie oh
Starting point is 00:27:13 that was your chance you know the rules we circle back around and he was just in the discord moments ago let's try again we'll give him one more try and he was just in the Discord moments ago. Let's just try again. We'll give him one more try. Hello, it's Big Eddie.
Starting point is 00:27:36 Ah, Big Eddie, that is you, it sounds like. That is me. Did we catch you going to bed early, Eddie? What's going on? You old sorry son of a bitch. Or were you just resting your eyes? Big Eddie, how's it going? early, Eddie? You old sorry son of a bitch. Or were you just resting your eyes? Big Eddie, how's it going? It's going well. It's going very well.
Starting point is 00:27:53 Big Eddie, otherwise known as the mole, who turned out not to actually be the mole, but highly suspicious as the mole. I am the mole. Or am I? I don't think that there was ever a really definitive
Starting point is 00:28:07 answer on that. Eddie, are you taking care of my dumbbells over there? I am taking care of them. I have a question for you. Are you taking care of the dumbbells over there? Yes, I am. I've run out of space on that, that York rack that came with the first big collection. Yeah. I have to pick up another rack just on your own now.
Starting point is 00:28:35 There was a, Eddie's picked up dumbbells for me like four times now, I think. Right. From four to that many. And the last one, there was kind of an interesting story. I'll tell it from my end, and Eddie can interject from his end,
Starting point is 00:28:52 but it was just a couple pairs of small ones. He had the 12s, which 12s are pretty rare, one of the more expensive sets to find, and I found someone that was selling 12s for a good price. Had a couple other pairs with them, so I was just basically buying those so I could get the 12s. This person lives in the same state as Big Eddie. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:29:15 Is it like an hour drive from you, Eddie? Probably like a 30 to 40-minute drive. Okay. And I had said, like, i would buy him if uh my buddy big eddie could get there so maybe he'll be able to at some point in time and if he still got him i'd buy him and then they're every couple weeks right but then this guy you know messaged me out of the blue i think it was a weekend day and just said hey if i if i brought him to him would you buy him today? Or something like that.
Starting point is 00:29:46 No, he just said, if I got them, if I could deliver them to him in his town, would you buy them? And I was like, oh, yeah, that's great. And then did he say, it's my cash and I want it now? Well, and I later figured out he must have really wanted the cash and so be it or whatever. But I didn't know when he was going to do this i just said yeah that we'll work that out and i uh gave eddie his number or gave
Starting point is 00:30:10 him eddie's number and i kind of was under the assumption you know we'd make this work within the next week or two and then um what happened eddie so so i'm getting like messages from tanner and it's like hey you know he says he'll come deliver and i'm like are you sure like it's not a problem he's like no he he wants to do it he's like i gave me a contact info he's gonna reach out and set up a day and time i'm like all right no sweat and then like half an hour later i get this message and it's like right, I'm on my way. I was like, dude, I'm not even home. I'm like, I'm going to trip for the next couple hours.
Starting point is 00:30:54 And I haven't gotten any of the money yet and stuff either. So there's a number of reasons. Yeah, Tanner and I haven't even talked to money. And I'm like, well, you know, I should be home between like 1.30 and 2. And he's like, well, can you be there by 1.30 I was like who is this who the hell does he think he is and what gives him the right
Starting point is 00:31:14 so we end up meeting up and we end up meeting up and then I'm looking at him and I do my inspection to make sure they're all good to go and the goods are good and then i'm looking at them and i'm you know i do my inspection to make sure they're all good to go and then you know the goods are good and then i'm like great um how how's the payment working out is he gonna he gonna venmo it to you a lot of the times i venmo these people
Starting point is 00:31:36 ahead of time so that you know like that yeah or like i have to mess i inspect it and then i and then i message tanner and be like all right it it's good. You know, send the cash. Yeah, Eddie checks it out and then gives me the green light. Yes, send the transaction. It's not, you know, it's not junk. And this guy goes, he said that he was going to send you the money and you'd pay cash. And I'm just like, oh, okay. Well, how much is it?
Starting point is 00:32:03 I always carry cash for actual gym purposes in case I find something. And that's what I carry cash for. And I was like, well, I'm 30 bucks short, but my ATM's a block away. So I'll be right back. Yeah, and then Eddie called me like somewhere in there and i was like oh shoot i did not understand this was like right now i thought that this was happening like i was actually out cleaning up dog turds on my patio yeah yeah this is a very funny because i was like is this because i always like to make you know because we didn't clarify i'm like all
Starting point is 00:32:43 right is this actually the right amount of money like yeah you know how are we doing this and it was funny because then like Tanner then you apologize like five times and I'm like Tanner stop apologizing like obviously you had nothing to do with this I ultimately determined the guy yeah the guy apparently really want needed some money on that day, I'm guessing. I will say he's the only one who did not get a podcast card and stickers. Yeah. Not a chance. I was the soup Nazi from Seinfeld on that one.
Starting point is 00:33:17 No stickers for you. No stickers for you. So the 12s, though, the 12s are good, though. And there was kind of like a mystery set of dumbbells in there even wasn't there. Yeah, there's a pair of fives. And they honestly look like some rubber-coated ones. You had the rubber cut off of them. Okay.
Starting point is 00:33:35 But they do have, one of them has a number on it. Like, I don't know if it's a serial or a model number. So I was going to see if our, you know, our unpaid interns that are experts in the vintage weights can track anything down, decipher it. Yeah. Okay. Uh, did you have a question for us at all? Oh man, well, you already answered the one about me guessing what the drop was going to be. Um, you, uh, you had several questions. One, I, I'm not going to be. You had several questions. One, I don't need to pick for you, but you asked about Table Talk. That's a good one.
Starting point is 00:34:12 Yeah, what's the status on Table Talk? Have you guys gotten it yet lined out? Do you have a time frame you guys are looking at with Big Dave? Yeah, so we don't know the date yet, but we are planning on making that trip. And Tommy and I have talked about some options. We obviously have to work it out
Starting point is 00:34:33 with Dave to make sure it works with him, but the exciting part is we could have multiple stops on that trip. Yeah, buddy. Could be on with our buddy Big Dr. mike also if we plan that trip outright then we can make a few cool stops and do some cool stuff so we want to get a lot of bang for our buck and the plan is 2023 we don't know exactly when it works out yet does that
Starting point is 00:35:02 does that mean we're going to get to see a YouTube video of big Dr. Mike putting you guys through the ringer on a bodybuilding workout making you cry that's part of this thing that's going to be cool is all the YouTube content that we can get out of it yes absolutely so that's a good question though
Starting point is 00:35:20 yeah no that's going to be awesome well thank you we're definitely looking forward to seeing the updates and uh when you guys make it out to the not midwest state of ohio to visit the elite fitness compound and some other good sites all right thanks uh big eddie we'll see you in july thanks eddie see you in july all right see ya i enjoyed that dumbbell story had not heard that one yeah i thought about that after he actually answered i'm like oh this would actually be a good story for the podcast yeah that guy really did throw me for a loop though and he's
Starting point is 00:35:56 like eddie's like oh he's like here now i'm like um that's not what we what we talked about you know the guy just sitting there like oh oh, I got to have that money. You just like showed up there. I need that money. Yeah. I mean, it was a good deal, so it worked out ultimately good, but should we get our next caller on the horn? Let's keep them going.
Starting point is 00:36:17 All right, next on the list is Big Keith. Get ready, Big Keith. Turn your phone off. Do not disturb. Keith, turn your phone off. Do not disturb. What's happening, gentlemen? Big Keith, is that you? Yes, sir. How are you guys doing?
Starting point is 00:36:37 Good. You're live on the MassDynamics podcast with Tanner and Tommy. It's so good to hear your voice again, Big Keith. How are we doing? I'm trying to think about it. I've got to kill the Zoom without fucking up the call. My mother can hang up on you bastards. Yep. So, Big Keith, we got to meet you in person this year at the Arnold,
Starting point is 00:36:53 so that was pretty cool beans. Yeah, the Arnold was a blast. I swear you guys are freaking giants. I never felt so damn small standing next to both of you. Yeah, we do get that at the Arnold from time to time. It was fun, though. It was cool, the amount of crew that was there this year. Do you think you'll make the trip again for that next year?
Starting point is 00:37:10 What do you think? I'm probably 50-50. If the Massanomics meet ends up being an annual thing and Home Gym Con ends up being pretty annual, I don't know if I can swing all three of those because I'm spending like six grand this year on fucking vacations. So for specific gym related and my hobby vacations, I don't think my wife will let me do that
Starting point is 00:37:32 every year. So it's just going to be a matter of picking two of the three or one of the three annually. That is a lot of gym related vacation stops in one year. Absolutely. And if we had to pick, I'd rather you were coming to the Lift Hard Live Easy Classic anyways because we get to see a lot of people at the Arnold, you know, no matter what. So, uh, big Keith, did you have a question for us? I did. So it was about a podcasting basically.
Starting point is 00:37:56 So I've been on a handful of podcasts over the last couple of years, but I've never, uh, hosted a podcast and the, the, the working, uh, the, the, the working plan right now for the the unpaid intern uh slash crew cast is that me and joey are supposed to be like co-hosts and co-hosts and then kind of have crew on over you know over each week and kind of have the crew be the other crew be the guest more or less so just uh you know i know how to be a guest on a podcast i don't know how to freaking host a podcast or co-host a podcast. Can you give me like a 90 second advice column there? That's a good question.
Starting point is 00:38:32 That's a real question actually. I guess I would probably say our number one thing is we do as the host it is your job to keep things moving. So you do have to have a bit of an idea. It helps to have a bit of an idea of what the roadmap is. So that's why we do have a shared to-do list, basically, that we can look at. So we have a general direction of where we're going to go for the podcast because it is tough to just sit down and be like,
Starting point is 00:38:58 all right, we got to talk for one to two hours and who knows what it is. If you're in person, that might be doable. That's really hard to do online. So I guess I would say make just some basic to do items, talking points for the day. If you can, that, that makes things a lot easier.
Starting point is 00:39:16 Yeah, that makes sense. I agree. I did. No, I agree with that. And then like the way we do it is, yeah,
Starting point is 00:39:22 it's not a rigid roadmap either. Sometimes we might not get to all of it. Sometimes we might add a couple of things as we're going and stuff like that. But it is important to have a little bit of a, like a bulleted point outline even of just like, Hey, these are the bullets we're going to hit. And then like specifically with a guest, we always have a little more, you know, we have some, a decent number of bullet points on each guest like because what you'll find like different guests do different things some people have two-word answers for every question and that's it ever some people you know you listen to the mass comics podcast some people can talk for 15 minutes and we never even asked a question
Starting point is 00:40:01 they just started talking and never ending so you got to be flexible of like some people will literally ask some people like two or three questions over the course of 45 minutes and not really get to anything on our list. And some people would kind of have to drum up more because they're kind of a closed book until they get more comfortable. That makes sense. That makes sense. I didn't want to make it sound like it was just me and Joey behind the whole
Starting point is 00:40:23 thing because I mean, I might be like kind of the initial faces of it but there's about a half you know about a dozen other crew that are pretty uh instrumental right now putting this together so don't want to let make anyone think it's just me and joey doing it all by ourselves so it it will not be possible without the help of at least you know the you know an entire village basically we're we're excited for it, too. We think the crew cast is going to be a lot of fun. We're very excited for that
Starting point is 00:40:50 to come to life. I think we're going to pilot that episode next Thursday because I have family in town this week, so we have to push it a week. I think we're going to do a dry run and we'll go from there. A little dry handy run. Yeah. Are you going to record the dry run uh i'm pretty gay that's nate i don't i we we did a zoom call like seven or eight of us last week
Starting point is 00:41:15 and kind of you know brainstormed a lot of stuff and i'm pretty sure this next one was going to be i think it's just me nate and jo Joey, I believe, but I could be wrong. This is my bit of advice on that. Tommy, I don't know if you might agree or disagree, but I think whatever you do, you just record it and plan on it being a real thing. I think so, too. Unless you get done and you really, really think it's awful. Even if you think it's kind of awful, I think you still use it yeah it should be kind of bad it's your first one
Starting point is 00:41:49 so it probably should be kind of bad so unless you're like we had technical errors there's huge gaps where we're not talking like if it really is unlistenable then yeah don't release it but i would say record it with the idea that yeah there's like an 80 chance this will be the first episode yeah sounds like a good plan all right we're we're like an 80% chance this will be the first episode. Yeah. Sounds like a good plan. We're excited for it. We're going to be the first listeners, of course, and sponsors.
Starting point is 00:42:11 Absolutely. We need all the help we can get, and we'll see you guys in July. Thank you for the countdown. See you then, Big Keith. See you, Keith. Thanks. Later, guys. Peace. Good from Big Keith.
Starting point is 00:42:24 Yeah, good stuff. You know what else i like i like the strength co plates i was reading some as i typically do on any given day i just read through various reviews of the strength co plates and i found one that stuck out to me in particular is i was on the website www.thestrength.co just browsing like i said i do every other day or so just keeping up to date yeah well yeah you don't want to miss anything and i this uh this review stuck out to me here and it was uh this fucking thing is built like teddy roosevelt forged it himself in a 19th century rail yard top-notch quality and excellent customer service from the folks at the Strength Co. Now that's a testimonial right there.
Starting point is 00:43:11 Yeah, I don't know if I could ever say anything better than what they just said right there in that review. And that was from Big George G. So well done, Big George G. That's good. Head over to the Strength Co. Buy yourself some Made in america veteran owned and operated from a veteran owned and operated company made in america plates they're smooth and easy to grip they're the best looking iron plates that are out there they're uh accurate
Starting point is 00:43:34 and they look they look really good they become the go-to plates of massonomics gym check it out at the strength.co and today's episode is also brought to you by Barefoot Shoes. Grr, baby. Most shoes harm your mobility by over-restricting your foot's natural movement. Barefoot shoes are designed with minimal restrictions so your feet can move the way they're supposed to. Move with more strength and confidence in every step. Barefoot Shoes was founded by Chris Duffin, who attributes proper foot biomechanics as foundational to his success in squatting and deadlifting over 1,000 pounds for reps. He helped create the company to provide a minimalist shoe that can be worn for anything from deadlifts to walking your dog. Go to www.barefoot.shoes to check out the best minimalist shoes available. And most importantly, make sure to
Starting point is 00:44:25 use code MASSANOMICS to save 10% on your next order. That's barefoot.shoes. Code MASSANOMICS will save you 10%. Thank you, Barefoot Shoes. That actually just reminded me, Tanner. It says that those shoes can be worn for anything from deadlifts to walking your dogs. Today, I took my dog to one of the dog parks in town. And, you know, you're familiar with Bernie. He's also very familiar with you. I like to call him Bernard. We have a very formal relationship. Yes, you do. I call him Bernard and he barks at me. Yes, that's exactly how that relationship goes. do i call him bernard and he barks at me yes that's exactly how that relationship goes but bernie does have a bit of a distinct look uh he's not uh i mean he looks like a doodle dog but even that i think he is somewhat distinct looking and while i'm walking from my car to the dog park area
Starting point is 00:45:16 there's a guy that has a dog that looks exactly like bernie exactly like they ran away and ran back would you take you other than the fact that the one was a little smaller than him, and they were exactly the same. And at first I'm kind of thinking my eyes are just playing tricks on me, and then we were getting to the area at the same time. I go, God, our dogs really look alike. He goes, God, I was thinking the same thing. And we start talking, find out Bernie is that dog's older brother.
Starting point is 00:45:42 They are siblings. Bernie was that dog's older brother, which was hilarious. Did they like each other? They kind of did. Like they, you know, they're doodles. They're like, want to see what's going on. And they played a little bit. Siblings, am I right?
Starting point is 00:45:57 Which, that's funny. You can go out in public and meet your dog sibling. Probably just sniff a butt like any old dog butt. Basically. Should we try and get big Nate on the horn? Let's do it. Let's give it a shot.
Starting point is 00:46:23 Sometimes easier said than done. Maybe he's in bed. He probably doesn't know how to answer his phone. Doing technical things or something. He's not good at tech stuff. He probably doesn't know how to answer his phone. Doing technical things or something. He's not good at tech stuff. All right.
Starting point is 00:46:48 We gave Nate a shot. This next one, they said they're from Denmark. Do you think we can try to call that, or how does that work? I mean, the worst case scenario is your phone blows up, I guess. All right. We'll give it a try. I don't know if this will go through. What happens?
Starting point is 00:47:03 Oh, Big Nate says he's up. Try that again. Try that again. All right, we'll give it a try. I don't know if this will go through. What happened? Oh, Big Nate says he's up. Try that again. Try that again. All right, we'll give Nate one more shot. No one gets more than two shots, though. You only get one shot. Hey, hey, hey, hold on. Hey, I'll be up right after my thing.
Starting point is 00:47:19 Hold on one sec. I didn't know we were calling Big Jeff. I thought we were calling Big Nate. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Sorry. I'll go get Big Nate. Hey, Big Nate, there's a call for you. Oh, thanks.
Starting point is 00:47:33 Big Nate, is that you? Oh, that's me. Hi, how are you? Oh, good. You're live on the Massonomics Podcast with Tanner and Tommy. What's up, Nate? What an honor. What an honor.
Starting point is 00:47:42 This isn't your first rodeo, though, is it? No, this is like at least my 20th or something, I think, at this point. Could you not answer because you were doing technical things? I was hoping. I sent my voicemail in case I fell asleep as a prank, but I don't know if you guys made it to the voicemail. We did not. I usually try to cut off before the voicemail
Starting point is 00:48:01 just because I'm always nervous of what it says, and I don't want to stop to do any editing and post. I did one of the yo say anything. Just kidding. Leave a message. Classic. You guys didn't get to it so now the joke was ruined.
Starting point is 00:48:18 What a bummer. Big Nate we got to meet you in person at the Arnold this year. That was pretty cool. Yeah you guys are really tall. Yeah, that's what we're best at. Hey, you got to be good at something, right? That is true. And we got to go out to Brothers together.
Starting point is 00:48:37 It would have been so much better if it was a lot quieter, to be honest. My ears are still ringing for how loud it was in there. Yeah, it was just too loud for my old ears, that's for sure. That's how we do it. Oh, I want to go talk to someone. Let's pick the loudest place we can find and go have a conversation. The best was just the incessant, like, just voice of Tanner every time he tried to speak when just realizing that no one would ever hear a word he said.
Starting point is 00:49:02 Yeah, Tanner's voice was gone, so he really had that open against him. It would just be like, Tanner would try to say, Tommy, you were sitting next to him, and he'd be like looking at you as if you could translate through brainwaves or something. I don't speak Western Northeast South Dakota.
Starting point is 00:49:17 Help me here. Big Nate, did you have a question for us today? Yeah, I did have a question. I wanted to know who you guys are most excited to hear interviewed on the Unpaid and Underrated podcast. Who we're most excited to hear interviewed. Interviewed. Tommy, anything coming to your mind? I mean, do we have, like, as in anyone I could ever think of?
Starting point is 00:49:46 Crew member. Crew member to be interviewed. Well, that's the first thing that comes to my mind, but I guess it's supposed to be. I didn't know what the parameters were. I mean, we could interview Lionel Richie for all we know. Right. That'd be exciting.
Starting point is 00:50:00 I, just generally speaking, this isn't a specific answer, but I am just excited to hear more from a lot of the crew. You know, there's about, there's a lot of crew that I've come to at least some in person, like you and many others we've talked to over the years we've gotten to meet here at things like the Arnold. But even just their online persona that I've become aware of, I'm excited just to hear more from a lot of those people. I think that that's going to be really fun for me personally to hear them. If I had to pick anyone in particular, that's really hard. That's what she said. You can't pick a favorite, right?
Starting point is 00:50:36 Right. Yeah. I mean, that would be the tricky thing. There's a lot. There's a lot of them. there's a lot there's a lot of them uh that's where i would struggle too because people's online presence can vary from their on-air presence a lot and it's right i i think after i listen to a few episodes i'd be like oh or i i it's really fun to listen to so-and-so talk because of they say these funny things or they go on these rants or whatever it is so yeah i
Starting point is 00:51:02 have trouble answering that question too uh here's something I'll be excited for. Big Jeff, as long as we're talking about him. I'll be excited when Big Jeff is on and all the references to I'll be up after my thing. I will enjoy that. I already know that for sure. Yes, that will be great.
Starting point is 00:51:20 To give one definitive answer. Scantz because he's old. That's if he can figure out all the fancy technology. We've been working with him. Last time we had him on for our planning meeting, he was just walking around with his phone working out the whole time. So it was pretty great. Can you confirm, does his phone, does he have a jitterbug?
Starting point is 00:51:42 I don't know what device he was on because I could only see what the camera saw, but I would assume so, yes. Oh, I'd be excited to hear from some of the chocolate chips too, the female crew members who maybe we hear less from sometimes. I'll be excited. Maybe you can dig up, here's another thought, some of the less, maybe they're very uh aware crew but they're not uh yeah necessarily as active as frequent but hearing from some of
Starting point is 00:52:12 those people and it's like oh these people are crew i didn't and they do this and i didn't even know that yeah i guess there's a fair number in there that uh constant browsers but uh uh rare posters and so those people right potentially have some good info i think long time listener first time caller you guys should interview larry legend someday that'd be pretty fun too can we get is he is he a scans level for reaching out to communication then probably lower yeah probably less than if you got him going, he'd talk a really long time. Perfect. Hey, we got to have goals. We have to set goals to reach them.
Starting point is 00:52:48 You could get him going. If you guys have a few topics, he could talk for an hour or two. So that's an idea right there. All right. We'll put that one in the sauna, and that means it'll get done. I kind of like the idea of them just interviewing gym members constantly. Yeah, it's like people that are more aware of massonomics on this side of the table. Yeah, and aren't really aware of the other side of massonomics.
Starting point is 00:53:11 And so you guys would just have two totally different viewpoints. So how about this? When everyone's out in Aberdeen for the meet, I'll enlist some folks to just go throughout the town and line up just people that work at banks and local restaurants that might know who you guys are. We'll interview them.
Starting point is 00:53:31 Now you're talking. Get the inside scoop. We'll get all the good info. Alright, Big Nate, we appreciate your question. Hey, I appreciate the call. Thanks, guys. Have a great night. You too. See ya.
Starting point is 00:53:47 Bye. Another good call. Let's try and get that Denmark one. I want to see what happens here. I can tell you what's going to happen. Verizon's going to charge the shit out of your phone bill. That's probably true. That's the only shot
Starting point is 00:54:04 I'm giving on that one. Let's try Big Kevin. Yeah, I don't even know. We can at least say we tried. Give that person a try. Let's try Big Kevin. So is. Big Kevin, is that you?
Starting point is 00:54:28 This is me. We were hoping it would be you. You're live on the Massonomics podcast with Tanner and Tommy all the way from Ohio, I'm guessing. Yeah, in northern northeast Ohio, I would say. Big Kevin, have you ever been on the Massonomics podcast before at all in a call-in capacity? Yeah, I was a short call-in in the last one. I got you guys going on about a 20-minute ramble
Starting point is 00:54:55 about World's Strongest Man last year. Okay. Kevin, I like to picture that when you're talking on the phone, you have that trench coat on, and you're like, everyone would think you're naked, but you actually just have a bench shirt on underneath. You know, surprisingly, that's pretty often.
Starting point is 00:55:10 You surprise your wife with that like daily. She's like, okay, is he naked this time or not? Big Kevin, we got to see you at the Arnold again this year, of course, so that's always fun. Yeah, you guys were shorter than I expected. Finally, we tricked someone in the opposite direction.
Starting point is 00:55:32 Did you have a question? You were also at Brothers. Yes, I was. We're kind of getting the whole Brothers team back together. It's a reunion. Did you have a question for us tonight, Big Kevin? Yeah, I do. For those of us that can't make it to the Lift Hard, Live Easy Classic,
Starting point is 00:55:51 what other ways can we participate that weekend? Maybe if you live stream it somewhere or maybe do some virtual power lifting meet like the Garage Gym competition, something like that? That's a very good question. Yes, that is a good question there might be a live stream so that'd be the first uh first part to that answer is there could be a live stream we're not necessarily ourselves going to be running that but it's uh there are
Starting point is 00:56:16 some things in the works that there could be a live stream full disclosure though it's probably going to be like every live stream of every power that you need everywhere it works like half the time that would be my turns out we get there and the wi-fi actually only supports like yeah nothing on it so uh yeah i think i do think though that there's possibly someone there that will be setting up the live stream for us if they don't at the very least we'll make a shot at it but i can't guarantee we will put much effort into it if we have to do it ourselves just because there'll be enough other things going on. But we will at least make some type of attempt.
Starting point is 00:56:47 Maybe there'll be one camera set up at least that you could check in on. And if you kind of are aware of what's going on, you'd be able to follow. Also, I think the Discord, we do have the special channel for the meet. And I'm sure that will be very active throughout the weekend of people updating things. So that'll be a good resource. And then your question about the virtual competing thing, I don't think that'll be an element to this, but we do have something coming this year to get people, potentially that's in the works, a little thing we alluded to earlier even where we get a lot of people involved
Starting point is 00:57:26 in a way that's like that. So there could be big things coming. All right, well, looking forward to it. All right. We appreciate the call. And we're sorry that you won't be here, but hopefully if this goes well, it won't be the last Lift Hard Live Easy Classic.
Starting point is 00:57:45 Yeah, next year. I'll see you. Yeah. And if nothing else, we'll probably see you in Ohio again, right? Right, for sure. All right, perfect. Thanks, Big Kevin. Thanks, Kevin.
Starting point is 00:57:54 All right, talk to you later, guys. Big Kevin. Cool as the other side of the pillow, isn't he? That's exactly what I was thinking the whole time. Took the words right out of my mouth. Should we do another call? Let's do it. These calls are going so good, I don't want to stop the party.
Starting point is 00:58:14 Yeah. Your call has been forwarded. Someone else wanted to stop the party. That was Big Carp. Big of Carp's gym. So he's going to be sorry that he... Why do so many people think go to write to voicemail?
Starting point is 00:58:31 I'm wondering if it just sees that you're not from your area code so far away that it just shuts you down. Okay. All right. Let's try Big Johnny. Give Big Johnny a try. Hello?
Starting point is 00:59:03 Big Johnny, is that you? Yes. Is this Tanner from the Mathonomics Podcast? Yeah, you're live on that very podcast with Tanner and Tommy, believe it or not. What's up, Big Johnny? This is actually so funny. I got into bed with my girlfriend, and right before I said, Dan, the podcast never called me. And here we are. So have you ever been on before? No.
Starting point is 00:59:27 It's my first time. See, we wanted to make sure you were extra cozy. We caught you in bed. Oh, yeah. Lights are off. Hands on. Breaking your Mastodonics cherry. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:39 I actually just took off my deadlifter tee. All right. All right. Big Johnny, where are you from i i am from southern northern eastern new york okay and do you do you do strongman stuff yes okay yep i know i know what big johnny we're talking to i thought that that's maybe maybe who i thought you were the big johnny but now i know for sure you have like the 8-bit Strongman tee. Yeah. Yep. Okay, perfect. Two, actually. Yes. Okay, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:08 What, did you order a bigger size or did one just get old? I made one into a cut-off, so that is one of the normal tee. Yeah. That's a classic maneuver. That's called the Lou Nutter. He buys two of like every style, so you can have one as a cut-off and one as I suppose a going-out tee.
Starting point is 01:00:24 I know. I was just thinking that today. There's a lot I don't wear because I wear cutoffs a lot. I just have to double up. Yeah. That's also a good practice with condoms. You wear two. You double bag. I mean, double or nothing. Big Johnny, did you have a question for
Starting point is 01:00:41 us tonight? I did. I thought of this for a while it's pretty simple question um where did the um opening music of the podcast come from tommy that's a tommy question yes i can tell you exactly and it's um not that exciting of an answer you just go to it's okay yeah when you go to youtube they have in when you have a youtube channel there's like an audio library of royalty free music because a lot of people don't realize you can't just take music or youtube's gonna flag you for you're not owning the music so i went to youtube i went to the royalty free music section was looking for free stuff and i found one i found
Starting point is 01:01:23 this one i'm like hey that kind of fits the bill it's kind of fun kind of exciting uh grab that thinking okay we'll probably change this like every so many episodes and it's been i don't know a couple hundred now hasn't it yeah 370 maybe 369 nice yeah but oh nice i don't this we've had, how long have we had this music though, Tanner? Since maybe, well, was it since I took over maybe? It was a little while into it. Before that? Okay. Well, I think it was after you took over, but it wasn't right away.
Starting point is 01:01:54 It wasn't at like episode 125. Oh, yeah. It was like robotic. Yeah. Yeah. That's what I was going to say. That's the follow up. That was the very original.
Starting point is 01:02:00 The original one was the Tyler robot voice that he dug up on that one. Yeah. So good question though. We appreciate that big Johnny. Yeah. I didn't think that was ever asked or ever. And that's a good question. That's a good answer.
Starting point is 01:02:17 Honestly, I wouldn't expect anything more from the mess, the podcast about nothing. Exactly. You think we paid for that? No way. in this economy with these supply chain issues all right thanks big johnny we appreciate it thanks for no problem appreciate you calling all right see ya see ya cool beans
Starting point is 01:02:38 a little origin story there. The behind the scenes look. Okay, should we try Big Joel? Mm-hmm. All you can do is try. That's right. It doesn't sound like we're going to get Big Joel. We're going to move on to Big Joey. Long distance call here. International call. Sounds different going international.
Starting point is 01:03:36 Well, how are you now? Big Joey. Is that you? This is your sound kind of scratchy. Is that must be that Canadian? I think it's the border. Is that better? No, but it's good enough.
Starting point is 01:03:53 You won't be on that long, so it's serviceable. That sounds like me. So, yeah, you are live on the podcast with Tanner and Tommy. Big Joey, how's it going? Hasn't been too long since we got to hang out at the Arnold. No, no, no. I'm really excited to be on what sounds like the first premonition of the Crewcast. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:04:15 That's kind of how this feels like right now. Yeah, so we've talked to several of you tonight that are going to be on and running and part of the crew cast? Are you excited to get it going? Kind of. Kind of nervous as well. But, I mean, Keith is pretty funny. Nate's pretty funny. Big Matt's really funny. I can't wait to get him on it. That's a good
Starting point is 01:04:39 call out from the questions earlier. Big Matt will be one that I'll be excited to hear from, too. Yeah, he's a real funny dude. Can't wait to have him on every week. Yes. So did you have a question for us, Big Joey? Yeah. When are the kid lines coming?
Starting point is 01:04:57 I got two kids here running around in the plane ones. I wonder if there's going to be the kid line coming. Yeah, Big Joey's asking about kids' clothing line, which you're not the first person to ask that. It's certainly come up before. No, this does come up a fair amount. This actually probably comes more than women's specific items, actually. Yeah, it does probably come up more often than that, doesn't it?
Starting point is 01:05:16 What do you think, Tommy? That's a tricky one. Yeah, it's not really on the immediate. It's on the someday list. We probably should just make it happen at some point because it's not like we need to order 500 kids items we could do a relatively small run but um yeah we probably should get going we have no plans right now but we probably should get going on that at some point here i guess it's tricky because of um what is it that you get like and kids come in a lot of sizes too. Right. I guess
Starting point is 01:05:45 what you do probably is you just get one size onesie and you say like this is the thing you buy and it's going to fit them from three to six months or whatever that is. If they're not that size, you're screwed. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:06:03 Even the youth is ball, right? Right. For the toddlers. Most of our kids run around our gym. Right, right. Right? Yeah, do like an actual youth tee. That's possible too.
Starting point is 01:06:16 Because I would always say. Right. We'll have to do a little, we'll have to get back to the drawing board on that one a little bit. So stay tuned. The answer is we don't know when, but also never say never. Never stop saying never. Got it.
Starting point is 01:06:32 We came out with a smaller than original size drink spotter, so I would say anything's possible. Innovation never ends. And Big Joey, you're going to be here in July, right? That's the goal. I actually booked the hotel today um and big steve who you guys yeah he's going to do most of the driving because he drives a stick and i never bothered to learn so he's going to do most of the driving and yeah that's going to be a a 24-hour drive for us yeah well uh i hope you're able to make it across the border i can't see why i wouldn't yeah with all those pc sparkling waters that i keep sneaking over yeah bring it bring bring us some president's Choice when you come oh I'm gonna that one I got today the orange creamsicle one
Starting point is 01:07:28 that was my bad yeah bring us some of that one for sure you'll do alright thanks Big Joey we'll see you then thanks Big Joey alright there was Big Joey one of them tried calling me All right, there was Big Joey. One of them tried calling me.
Starting point is 01:07:50 Tried calling us back. Maybe it was the Denmark number tried to call you. Let me see which one it was. I think it's Joel. Should we try Joel one more time then? Yep. All right. Give him a second shot.
Starting point is 01:08:02 Yeah, this is it though, Joel, if you don't answer. Joel. Big Joel, is that you? It is. You are live on the Mastodonomics podcast with Tanner and Tommy. How's it going? What's up, Big Joel? What?
Starting point is 01:08:20 It's going fantastic. How are y'all? Good. You did it. You've made it. I made it? This is your five minutes of fame right here. A whole five minutes
Starting point is 01:08:30 of fame? Well, no guarantee we give you that. Yeah, it'd probably be less than that. Have you ever been on the Mastodonics podcast before? I don't believe so. But you're a listener. That is true. We'll count that then uh did you have a question for us tonight yeah so i uh met y'all at the uh at y'all's booth in columbus at the arnold
Starting point is 01:08:56 and i was kind of off put after a you know a purchase of a t-shirt. Y'all pronounced the word bag as beg, and I was very thrown off by that. I had to take a quick moment for myself, so I just wanted to get the full breakdown. Are there any other South Dakotan terms maybe you can enlighten us on? Yeah, so it's the way people from the Midwest pronounce that A sound. And I never even am aware of that until we go to Columbus.
Starting point is 01:09:32 And the question I always ask people is, they buy a T-shirt and I go, do you want to beg for that? And it's like, oh, it's like asking someone would they like to beg for the T-shirt? That's what crosses my mind. So then I do catch myself just saying, do you want a sack for that? But bag is one. There's a bag.
Starting point is 01:09:52 And then the other one, I didn't even, I never was aware of this until someone brought up in the discord. Not that long ago. We say bag and flag. Like the thing that blows in the wind flag. Is that, is that a weird way of saying that too? I mean, it's when you say flag um you might be decreasing on patriotism points so maybe they question your commitment to freedom but hey uh your boat i guess i know that i've heard the bag thing before but somebody say it for me how you would
Starting point is 01:10:25 say it differently because I'm not even sure like I see it when I read it and say it I don't see you say bag aren't you what I mean I have like a nasally Cleveland voice so it's like bag but you know that can get aggressive at times okay like like bad with the g bag yeah pretty much i don't think it's not the word but make it more annoying uh that's pretty much how i say it bag bag oh i just i can't not say b-e-g yeah like i just hey it might be more anabolic that way i hope so the other one okay what do you. The other one. Okay. What do you, all right, here's one for you.
Starting point is 01:11:06 What do you put when you're going to put a letter in the mail? What do you put the letter in before you mail it? The mailbox? Even before that. Wait, what's that thing? You lick shut and put a letter in like the, what you put the piece of paper inside.
Starting point is 01:11:22 And yeah, what'd you say? An envelope. Okay. See, a lot say? An envelope. Okay. See, a lot of people say envelope. Oh. No. But I say envelope, too.
Starting point is 01:11:31 Wait. Okay. Okay. So there we go. Some friendship points there. Yeah. Appreciate it. On the same page there.
Starting point is 01:11:38 Where are you from, Big Joel? Where did you say? Are you? So I'm originally from Cleveland, but I live in Columbus now. Oh, okay. So you didn't have to. So you were at the Arnold. We met you this year at the Arnold.
Starting point is 01:11:50 Correct. What'd you buy to put in your bag at the Arnold? I got the, I think you guys call it the Metalnomics t-shirt. Yeah. Nice choice. Yeah. So definitely was surveying what to get. The lift, lift, hard, live easy stuff was kind of a hard pass up,
Starting point is 01:12:06 but pretty big death metal fan over here. So the metal kind of spoke to me. But yeah, definitely looking forward. And were you aware of Mastonomics prior to the Arnold this year? Or was it new to you? Honestly, what's hilarious is that i did not put the you two with that brand together yeah i just kind of remember in college like seeing people start like to wear your stuff the the the kind of the miller light lift t-shirt sort of thing
Starting point is 01:12:39 and then i kind of just associated that with some like bodybuilder bro-y type shit. But then once I started, I was like, oh, these guys are kind of douchebags over here. But once I heard your voice, I mean, you have maybe one of the most polite, most white, Caucasian sounding voices I've made over the course of my life. So I'm like, and not on the nice side. So I was like, OK, these are some white boys I can hang out with. I like them. All right. That's good stuff.
Starting point is 01:13:09 That was very good. And just checking here, that's five minutes. You got your five minutes of fame. So thanks, Big Joel. Yep. Joe, let's not on Instagram. Follow me. What's up?
Starting point is 01:13:20 All right. Bye. All right. See you. Big Joel had a good story for us there. That was good. That was a good story. So he was prior to the Arnold.
Starting point is 01:13:31 It's funny. Prior to the Arnold this year, he really was not aware of, I would assume, the podcast or anything like that. And now he's got a T. He's been on the podcast. He's a podcast listener. He's been on the podcast. It's what you want good stuff should we keep the train rolling a little bit here
Starting point is 01:13:50 I don't know why we'd stop now let's try Big Chris Big Chris on the horn has he been in is he listening live tonight he might be in bed already we'll try it oh buddy caps ah are you the guy the guy with the
Starting point is 01:14:09 barbells you started that oh yes barbell i knew we were gonna get buddy caps on the podcast this year just didn't know it was gonna happen so fast uh big chris you are live on the mass comics podcast with tanner and tommy how's it going i cannot believe i live on the Massonomics podcast with Tanner and Tommy I cannot believe I'm on the Massonomics podcast Have you been on before? I have not I would have guessed maybe you had been I had the option
Starting point is 01:14:35 to read an ad one time but I took the t-shirt instead You got scared didn't you? Probably the best And Big Chris you are uh competing in the lift hard live easy classic this year right uh yes i am all right good good to hear that uh do you have a question for us today yeah uh what are you guys besides besides meeting everyone from the crew what else are you looking forward to from the music classic?
Starting point is 01:15:07 Tommy, what are you looking forward to? So does that, like, when you say meeting people, can I not say going to the zoo afterwards, like the after party? Am I allowed to say that? You can absolutely say that. I'm really, really, like, yes, I'm excited for the meet too, but
Starting point is 01:15:22 the event is the meet, so that's obvious, but I'm really excited for the after party. That's I think going to be a lot of fun. I got to agree. I was just talking to a big Justin, big Caden, a couple of the mass dynamics gym guys that are doing the meet. And I was saying the same thing. I'm like, the meet's going to be fun,
Starting point is 01:15:42 but I really think the after party is really going to be fun. It's going to be one of those nights you don't want to end is what I feel. It's going to be one of those days and nights that I feel like that went way too fast. How is it over already? Like that was like when you're having so much fun that it just like goes by in like this blink of an eye. I feel like that's what's going to happen so i'm i am looking forward to the the party afterwards actually exciting news uh as long as uh big chris is bringing it up the zoo bar is the newest uh and most recent official sponsor of the lift hard
Starting point is 01:16:19 live easy classic so they are on board even as a official sponsor of the meet so pretty exciting news there that is exciting and that's actually one of the things I'm looking forward to yeah is there a nice I would guess you're because it is the obvious answer you know what you said to exclude as meeting
Starting point is 01:16:40 the other crew and stuff but I would assume you're in the same boat that that's pretty high on your list too yeah absolutely just being able to go around bullshit with everybody absolutely the other crew and stuff, but I would assume you're in the same boat that that's pretty high on your list too. Yeah, absolutely. Just being able to go around and bullshit with everybody. Absolutely. Where are you staying at when you're here? There's a lot of talk about different locations that people are staying at.
Starting point is 01:16:54 I canceled the American Inn and went with Fairfield because I got a deal through work and it saved me like $120. Oh, nice. It seems like there's going to be quite a few Americans still, quite a few Fairfields.
Starting point is 01:17:10 I've heard quite a few people talking about the Fairfield. I saw a couple of Ramcota, Best Westerns for sure. And maybe was there some Holiday Inn Express? So I think no matter mostly any of the hotels in town, you're going to be there with other crew too. Yeah. I mean,
Starting point is 01:17:25 it's like you said, everywhere. It's like a five minute drive. Yeah. Yeah. And also like, we're going to be, everyone's going to be busy the entire time.
Starting point is 01:17:31 So there's going to be very little hotel, you know, it's going to be, it's going to be full of act, chock full of activities. I'm a dreading Sunday morning. Yeah. So are you,
Starting point is 01:17:41 are you flying? Are you flying? First of all, because some people are driving? We're flying into Sioux Falls and then driving up. Okay. But then that leads to Sunday morning having to drive back to Sioux Falls to fly out. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:17:56 There's not really a great way, even if you're not. I mean, what time does your flight leave Sioux Falls on Sunday? We actually don't know yet. Okay. Because we might go to Kansas City afterwards. Well, either way, either way, yeah, Sunday's going to suck. I can pretty much guarantee that.
Starting point is 01:18:15 Yeah, Sunday's going to be rough. But it'll be worth it. The positive is it's one of those times you'll be able to talk about all the fun stuff from the day prior even though you feel like shit. Where do you live right now? I'm in New Jersey. I'm like 20 minutes from Philly. You'll find that the roads here, it'll be the most uneventful
Starting point is 01:18:39 three-hour drive of your life. You make one turn, you go 80 the entire way. There's no traffic. It it's easy I've driven through Ohio and Indian Ohio is around here Ohio actually there's actually a lot of traffic
Starting point is 01:18:57 on that interstate there's no traffic over here there's no cars it'll be a nice easy ride it'll be a very easy ride all right big Chris we're looking forward to seeing you in July There's no cars. Oh, okay. So it'll be a nice, easy ride. It'll be a very easy ride. All right. Big Chris. We'll, uh, we'll, we're looking forward to seeing you in July. Uh, thanks guys.
Starting point is 01:19:11 Have a good one. Oh, Hey, thanks for the red Robin. Oh yeah. Yes. Yes. Yes. Thank you for the fake red Robin. That was good.
Starting point is 01:19:18 The fake red Robin. Yeah. Good stuff. I'm glad Eddie was there. Cause he was the only one I had a number for no that was cool alright we'll see you then see ya
Starting point is 01:19:29 alright I forgot he hooked up the Red Robin he was the Red Robin he was the Red Robin master wasn't he alright should we try one more let's do it save the oldest for last we saved the oldest most. Save the oldest for last.
Starting point is 01:19:49 We saved the oldest most likely to be sleeping for last. Yeah, it's a trick. If this was a yearbook, we would say most likely to be asleep before the end of the podcast is this guy. all these young bucks are popping off the discord early you guys are saying the old man they just can't hang can they oh my god they're children they need their beauty sleep uh for any here. What's going on? For anyone that doesn't know, this is the mole. This is the mole, Big Scants.
Starting point is 01:20:32 What's going on, boys? Not too much. We're excited to have you on again. I've been asking a lot of people. I've got to know if we've had them on before or not, but I know we've had the mole on before. There's no denying that. Yeah, there's a couple times had the mole on before. There's no denying that. Yeah, there's a couple times I've been on there.
Starting point is 01:20:49 You've been keeping up good with the reveal videos. I never get tired of a good Scantz reveal video from behind his garage door. There's some days I rush it, and there's some days I just got to race to get one in. Well, Not everyone's going to be a gem, though, either. Not everyone can be perfect. It's free. Can't complain
Starting point is 01:21:14 too much. And Big Scantz, you're competing in the Lift Hard Live Easy Classic, right? I am. I think I'm the only fellow in my category just me and death it's gonna be him that's that's that's all you
Starting point is 01:21:29 gotta beat and so you're are you flying into what were you flying into I'm flying right into Aberdeen okay nice and where are you staying well I'm shifting I think the crowd's moving to the
Starting point is 01:21:45 Fairfax, Fairview, Fairtime Fairfield, yeah, going to the Fairfield Alright So it's But yeah, I actually got to see What I'm flying in because I got to Expedia got a hold of me a little while ago and said hey we just made a few Random changes
Starting point is 01:22:00 And I haven't been able to get a hold of them yet to find out what that Exactly means so But I'm supposed to come in Thursday And rolling out Monday and I haven't been able to get a hold of them yet to find out what that exactly means. But I'm supposed to come in Thursday and roll it out Monday. Okay, all right. So coming out Monday would be nice. That would be preferable for all the people. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:22:18 Oh, yeah. When Mrs. Scantz was booking the flights, I said, I'm not leaving before noon. If it's before noon on Sunday, I'm not doing it. Find something else. I think I got a 16-hour trip or something, but it's better than getting up at 0600 like some of these guys. And you're one of, Big Joey also, but you're one of the international attendees of the meet, one of the international competitors coming all the way from Canada.
Starting point is 01:22:43 I think I am. I think I may be the most traveled for this one. Yeah. Me or maybe, maybe Dan or Lindsay from down in Florida would be a close one, but I'm coming from the far, far East coast. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:22:55 You might be the farthest then. How about like someone from California? That wouldn't be as far. What do you think, Tommy? That's a good question. I don't know. Actually,
Starting point is 01:23:03 like if someone was Southern California, that'd be kind of, I don't know. I'd have to really look at a map to make a judgment call on that. But yeah, you've got to be up there for the farthest traveled though, right? Yeah, that's all right, though. I'll go lifting somewhere. I'm cool. That's it.
Starting point is 01:23:23 Did you have a question for us, Big Scants? I can't remember what it was. I just threw something out there. I can't get anybody else. I'm always good. You guys always ask how we're doing. How are you guys doing? We're doing good. Every podcast night is a good night.
Starting point is 01:23:39 To tell you the truth, I'm a little tired, but I'm a little tired all the time. Oh, man. That's Master's life, baby. truth i'm a little tired but i'm a little tired all the time oh man that's uh you just like have described my life like this last month so hard it's like i got three little kids a couple full time jobs and i'm a little sometimes i'm really tired all the time i'm a little tired if that anyone anyone that's in at least submasters or above can relate to that. Yesterday in my office, my wife walks in and she goes, what's wrong?
Starting point is 01:24:10 You look really stressed. I'm like, I am so tired. Like my brain doesn't even work. And it was like 10 in the morning. Just, you know, it's that feeling when you go to bed and it's like one o'clock and you've already been up four times. It's one in the morning. You've already been up four times.
Starting point is 01:24:28 Like, okay, great. Yep. I might as well be up for the day now i feel like i need just like four days of being locked in like a chamber sensory deprivation chamber where no one can get to you and like you just come out after like a four-day hibernation you're like oh what year is it and you just look like still tired yeah actually like i'm still a little tired leave me alone except you're now well rested enough to say jesus am i ever freaking tired yeah ain't that the truth uh yeah it's like the uh going to the doc and they ask how much you know what's your pain level like it's like usual what do you mean usual zero? Oh, no, it's like a five or six all the time.
Starting point is 01:25:06 Like a six, yeah. Yeah. Nothing I can't explain. Like what part specifically? Some of it's kind of a zero, but some of it's a seven. Yeah. No, that's all good. Always sore, always tired, whatever.
Starting point is 01:25:21 Outside of just being tired all the time, though, it's going good here. We can't complain. Masonomics is rolling along as strong as ever. We've got a lot of exciting things coming up between the Lift Hard, Leave Easy Classic, you know, some contests, competition stuff, some crew stuff where we're going to get people more involved again.
Starting point is 01:25:38 So we're excited for it. I've got to say, the Lift Hard, Leave Easy is like the pinnacle right now. Yeah. It's the talk of the crew. Yeah. Like such excitement. It is. Everybody together.
Starting point is 01:25:49 You know, we're going to continue to beat this horse to absolute, just way beyond death over the next 10 weeks, but it is going to be really fun. I am really excited for it. Well, and I just laughed because I know there's people on Instagram, buddies, who don't know what's going on. They're like, why did you come to meat prep and then meat prep with an A? 94 days from what? I'm
Starting point is 01:26:16 optimistic it's going to be one of those things we get done and everyone's already excited about what next year brings. Oh, yeah. Big time. I think this is probably going to be my last parallel to meet, so I've got to go with a bang on this one. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:26:34 I haven't done one in five years, four years, so I have to relearn how to bench press again. But I'm pretty sure as a master I can pick my overhead or my pressing, but I can do axle press. It's my choice, I think,. I think. Did you sign up? Are you in master's class then? Or what's the, what's the exact designation? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:26:51 Master's 100. Okay. And well, I'm not sure they call it masters, but XPC, he's got like, I'm used to masters being like 50, 40 to 49 and then 50 to 59.
Starting point is 01:27:05 But I think they break it down into like subcategories. So the masters, I don't know, two and a half or something or whatever. Are you 220 weight class or 242 or what weight class are you? No, 220. 220. And how old are you? 52 for this. Okay. So you'd be like masters two i'm wondering so like larry's not in that way that class then right tommy would he be a different one uh i don't know what the
Starting point is 01:27:33 what the range is on it yeah because i think he's 47 yeah i was gonna say he's in the same way yeah so he should be there maybe same weight class. But I think that is a, yeah, it's Masters 1. Okay. I think that's what they do, Masters 1, Masters 2. That doesn't matter to me. I'm just showing up lifting weights. We just know, we're just counting on you two to keep the warm-up room running tight. No funny business from any of the younger guys back there.
Starting point is 01:28:08 You're going to leave those on the bar there, are you? I'm thinking that's a no. Where's your mother? I would say out of all the Canadian people we've either interviewed on the show or talked to crew and stuff like that. Scantz is always the one that reminds me the most of trailer park.
Starting point is 01:28:29 Some of the guys on trailer park boys, you've got just, you've got the best Canadian accent. Well, as I said, there's, uh, Julian had a pizza place two mile, like two miles from where I grew up. There's the boys are all from the local area. Well, that makes sense then. So there's, you know, I know guys who are like
Starting point is 01:28:52 some of the characters. Anyway. It could have been you. It could have been. Jesus, maybe I'm bubbles. I like to think huge parts of the show were based on your life. It could be, I don't know.
Starting point is 01:29:12 I'm older. I forgot that stuff now. So yeah, it could be due for some royalties maybe. Uh, all right. Well, we're,
Starting point is 01:29:19 we are very excited to get to meet you in person in July. It's going to be a lot of fun. Yeah. I hear you guys are pretty short, right? That's what everyone says. That's what they tell us. All right, well, thanks for the call, boys. All right.
Starting point is 01:29:38 And we'll talk to you later. Thanks, Gantz. See you later. Okay, boys. Bye. I don't care what everyone else says. He's not that old, Tommy. Okay, boys. Bye. I don't care what everyone else says. He's not that old, Tommy. Nope. Age is...
Starting point is 01:29:50 That sounds weird to say. What's the... People make the meme because it's weight is a number, heavy is a feeling. Did they say age is a number, old is a feeling? That is the funny take on that. Hashtag masters. number old is a feeling that is the funny take on that hashtag masters ah all right that's uh gonna wrap us up for calls this week we mentioned always tired i had to look um because i thought i remember reading this but i i'd never verified it pulse malone the uh
Starting point is 01:30:21 musician tanner yeah underneath one eye it says always, and then underneath the other eye it's tattooed tired. So it says always tired right on his face. It's funny you've mentioned that. We'll get back to something on that in a little bit here. Actually, that's really relevant to something I had. But always tired could be a, like something like that could be a funny shirt.
Starting point is 01:30:42 Oh, yeah. You know, like I'm sure there's other exists, but we could put our own spin on something like that could be a funny shirt. Oh, yeah. I'm sure there's other exists, but we could put our own spin on something like that too. Oh, yeah. There's potential. I am always tired. Almost always. I can say I was never.
Starting point is 01:30:57 I don't really think that I was chronically tired until I had two children. Because I'd sleep like a freaking rock. I mean, it's like, if you're tired and you're single, it's kind of your own problem. Right. Now it's not my own problem. There's things outside my control.
Starting point is 01:31:16 I think we really need to flush out always tired t-shirt design ideas. Maybe we should kick the live listeners off so they got something to listen. Since we're done. Wrapped up calls. They're out of here. I'm just going to make sure one more time if there's any last minute questions that really were so good that we.
Starting point is 01:31:43 We did have one other question. Do we want to catch this one that came in here recently or you can try all right let me let me uh let me try we'll try one more i gotta type this one in manual the old-fashioned way are you kicking everyone else out? They're gone. Okay. We're going to try this one. Last one. well no answer yeah just chat okay tommy i want to hit us everyone everyone even though we just talked to a whole shitload
Starting point is 01:32:52 of supporting members i do have a formal supporting member segment here also um is this they want one more shot okay okay everyone always wants a second chance, don't they? Yep. Hello? Is this that big mofo guy? It is. Is that what you want us to call you by on the MathSnomics podcast? That works. Yeah, that works.
Starting point is 01:33:23 Okay. We don't know if we need to protect your anonymity or not that's it's more of a joke but that is a part of it okay alright well either way regardless of that you are live on the MassDomics podcast with Tanner and Tommy and lucky for you you are the last
Starting point is 01:33:41 caller today oh yeah better late than never amen to that Lucky for you, you are the last caller today. Oh, yeah. Better late than never. Amen to that. Did you have a question for us? So I'm not going to ask a question I submitted because I was hoping Scantz would ask it, but when are we going to get those slides? Oh, say that again.
Starting point is 01:34:00 It got a little wonky on me. Say it one more time. I was saying, when are we going to get those slides? What slides? You know the slides. Tanner's covering up the screen behind him. We don't know anything about any slides. We know nothing.
Starting point is 01:34:24 And that's all we can say about that but we appreciate the call wink wink all right we have a good one guys yeah thanks thanks for calling what slides i don't know anything about any slides i don't see no slides no never knew anything about any slides. Okay, supporting our supporting members. It's a relatively newer segment of the podcast, and what we do is we got all these supporting members. You heard from several of them that chose to call in tonight, which was a lot of fun.
Starting point is 01:34:55 So they get things like that, discount codes, listen to the podcast live each week. They get early info on drops, a whole bunch of stuff. One of the things also is they get to be a part of the supporting our supporting member segment, where we give back to them each week. They get early info on drops, a whole bunch of stuff. One of the things also is they get to be a part of the Supporting Our Sporting Members segment, where we give back to them each week. This week we've got Big Waffle Iron Jim. He competed at a USAPL meet.
Starting point is 01:35:13 He went 7 for 9. He had a 518 squat, 330 bench, 606 deadlift. That was a squat and a squat sleeve PR and a deadlift PR for him. So breaking that over the 600-pound deadlift, good all-around, well-rounded numbers for Big Waffle Iron Jim. And then one of the Davids, I believe one of the Davids that we did not talk to tonight, finished second in his strongman competition.
Starting point is 01:35:41 And I think out of maybe 50 competitors, he finished second. Nice. And he won the Yoke deadlift. Very good. Well done there, Big David. And then the last one, a guy named Big Brandon, Big Brandon Diamond, recently competed in a USA PL meet earlier this month. He totaled 14.50, a body weight of 214 pounds.
Starting point is 01:36:04 He went four for nine. So I think he might say it's not the meat he planned for, but it's the meat that he had. And anyone that does it long enough, you've all been there before. It's bound to happen at some point. Yeah, and I did watch his recap video on it today, and it seemed like the judging was pretty tough. I thought the same thing.
Starting point is 01:36:28 His squats, I'm like, really? Yeah. And also, like, I'm not there. I didn't see it in person. But just from my perspective, I'm like, ooh, that's brutal. Mm-hmm. I don't know. Did you see that too?
Starting point is 01:36:42 Yeah, I saw it too. Did you have the same opinion? Maybe sometimes I'm too lenient on depth calls, but to me, nothing looked, I mean, it just, it passed the sniff test to me. Like, I just look at it. I'm like, yep, that looks like a squat. And I think you said, like,
Starting point is 01:36:55 he's basically never been called on depth before ever in a meet, and he's done a fair number of meets. So to get hit that hard in one, that would suck. I bet the judges were garage gym owners and that had a vendetta against basement gym owners yeah they didn't like the basement people yeah maybe they didn't maybe they don't like big shots coming in to their meat they're like yeah they say you and your basement and your page. Welcome to the real world. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Did you see that?
Starting point is 01:37:27 So that's our supporting member segment. Ronnie Coleman was selling his house. No. Yeah. Is this like a lead up to a joke or something? Ronnie Coleman, a duck, and a rabbi walk into the zoo bar. No, I think it was an article I came across or something on somewhere where he was selling his house.
Starting point is 01:37:54 I assume in Texas he was moving to a bigger house, but I don't know if you've ever seen the Ronnie Coleman documentary that I think was on Netflix. Yeah, we talked about it. It's that one with the gym in it, and he's selling the gym with all the gym equipment too. Wow. Half a million. Yeah yeah i just found it here yeah 496 is that what it's listed for if i remember yeah that honestly uh looks like it surprised me it's not more than that that's what i thought that was my i didn't look into it closely and i didn't look at square footage or anything but um seemed like a pretty nice place and with a fully equipped gym for under five hundred
Starting point is 01:38:28 thousand dollars damn i'm looking uh i think in certain south dakota markets this would be a freaking steal this is south dakota not texas why is south dakota houses price seen so messed up someone tell me that please ain't that the question yeah he's got uh got the whole gym room here i'm seeing it so i don't know if for anyone that's interested but uh there's probably fifty thousand dollars worth of gym equipment in there alone i can't really remember what it looks like but is there a lot of equipment in there the exact same dumbbells as the massonomics gym okay and he has the white and blue machines at the massonomics gym does too. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:39:08 Wow. I guess massonomics is pretty much Ronnie Coleman's gym. Now that I think about it, it's the same thing. Maybe he's moving here to train with us. That could be it. We're kind of making amends after our checkered history with Ronnie. Don't ask about it.
Starting point is 01:39:25 We can't go into details. Yes. World's Strongest Man wrapped up here this last weekend also. The Canadian Big Mitch Hooper won. That was not my prediction. My tip prediction was Brian Shaw. He did definitely not win. You know, in classic,
Starting point is 01:39:48 we both love Brian, but I do have to say in classic Brian Shaw fashion, he let you down again, Tanner. Yeah, he did. He did. I guess it's the same old story there. It's bittersweet to see him retiring from the World's Strongest Man, actually. In one sense, it's not quite the same without him.
Starting point is 01:40:07 I don't know that it ever will be, but also I don't really like watching him go and then getting beat by people that I know in his prime he could have just steamrolled in events that he could have steamrolled in. So I'd be happy to not have to witness that anymore honestly and i don't think there's that's not going to get better no it really well what was it was it last year two years ago did he get fourth i think so yeah yeah so that seemed like maybe things were coming around but god now this year it was just felt like it was piled on yeah ever i mean everyone else is too much younger it is good too it's uh It's a different timeline now, isn't it?
Starting point is 01:40:46 Yeah. I still think if you took him from 10 years ago, he would go in and win. But that's my bias on him, you know. But Mitch Hooper won, who he looks like he's kind of unstoppable now. Yeah, he's just a workhorse, isn't he? Yeah, he's deceptive. Like, there's nothing in particular that well you look about him that screams stronger no it doesn't all the other
Starting point is 01:41:11 people it doesn't and i thought i saw the guys in the discord saying this how many strongman competitions ever does he have to his name he's only been doing it for 11 months he's only been doing strongman for 11 months that doesn't make any sense i don't know and he doesn't look like but how what does that say that's so weird though i always things like that i know this isn't the right way to look at them but i always think when you see things like that like what does that say about the state of that sport when someone can do it for 11 months and be the best like no no one is going to say, I'm going to pick up basketball right now. And in 11 months be the best in the world.
Starting point is 01:41:49 And it would be impossible. It would be impossible. Like to even like, you couldn't know what, I mean, it does happen in the sense that people like a foreign person in there don't play basketball until they're 18 for the first time. And maybe they make the NBA after five years. Yes yes but it still is a lot of work right going on
Starting point is 01:42:09 between those and then they get there and they're not top three in the league you know right it's like okay you're a good solid role player but you're not the number one guy that's just yeah and that's i'm not saying this to take it i'm just like maybe saying this as a compliment to him as like how much of an absolute freak he is. Because there are some insanely talented guys in World's Strongest Man. But it blows my mind that someone can do it for 11 months. Like if what you're saying is true,
Starting point is 01:42:35 that he really had no experience. I think that's accurate. And maybe, you know, maybe it's not a fair comparison to some other sports though too, because some sports are so skill. They're more technical. Dependent. Definitely. But even. Like basketball is, you know maybe it's not a fair comparison to some other sports though too because some sports are so skill they're more technical definitely but but like basketball is a you know like or any of those any of the major sports like it's such a skill yeah whereas strongman in theory you just needs to be the strongest man and then have a little bit of like basic skills in these things. Like, you know, like it requires some skill. I don't want to like downplay it too much,
Starting point is 01:43:09 but nothing like the skill required in like to be the best golfer in the world. But I mean, his background in strength, he has to have like a deep background there, right? I don't know. Like, I mean, there's no way that anyone with a genetic potential is like has never understood that they're strong before you know like you like if you had that ability you have been in the gym before and been like wait a second i'm stronger than all these other people just on accident that's no i'm just like but he had to have been training hard well
Starting point is 01:43:41 he was running marathons how long ago marathons not that long ago a few years i don't get it it's so crazy yeah and he said that he wants to run the the strongman grand slam because he just won the arnold just won world's strongest man and now his next two that he would want to win would be uh the Shaw and then the Rogue you know he's trying to win all four of those which would be quite the I mean quite the statement a pretty definitive statement to do that according to the bio on his website he started playing football at the University of uhalouf. I don't even know how you say that. And then football didn't last long,
Starting point is 01:44:29 and he wanted to experience every element of human performance. So then he got into bodybuilding, and then he got into marathon running with his best time of three hours and 24 minutes. Yeah, it's pretty crazy. Yeah, strength and conditioning coach for a professional basketball team in canada uh well powerlifting spend the toronto raptors powerlifting transition to strongman and yeah here we are wow and then tom stoltman got second. It was fairly close. I mean, really at the end of it, Hooper kind of dominated, but it wasn't far off.
Starting point is 01:45:10 He definitely had a shot. And then what was Novikov in third and Trey Mitchell in fourth. Trey Mitchell fourth, two years in a row. Yes. And Evan Singleton did do well. I had called that. I think he finished in fifth or sixth at the end of it so he did do pretty well up there and nick best did give us a good
Starting point is 01:45:31 heads up on what was his name now um um pablo was a pretty strong competitor yeah he was good too that guy events in particular that was his first world's strongest man, if he can keep that going, he's got some real potential there. Yes. So I guess at least next year I won't be able to pick Brian Shaw because he won't be competing there. So I'll just be forced to pick someone else. Yeah, that's probably good for you.
Starting point is 01:46:01 There's a much higher likelihood you're going to get the podium, mostly right. That's true. I think I got the other two, right. I got two out of three, right. Or something.
Starting point is 01:46:10 The one thing I was going to ask you is the, I saw a little bit of controversy regarding the dumbbell overhead or the circus dumbbell. Yeah. What's your take on that one? I don't think that's a good lift, but I also don't think with the end of it, it's not relevant.
Starting point is 01:46:25 Like they could have not given it to him and he was still one world's strongest man. Would he? Yeah, by enough. I mean, it's hard to say that too, because maybe the whole thing plays out differently in that way. But no, I don't like that. That's not a good lift. But also it was the call that was given. So I would just drop the dumbbell too.
Starting point is 01:46:42 Like if they say down good lift, then like he doesn't give a shit that's yeah that's not his problem yes like did you think it was like a really obvious bad call or do you think there's any room for interpretation in that one oh there's probably room for interpretation especially when you're watching it live and stuff like that and if if i was a judge i'd be just you know those guys probably aren't i'd be nervous and i don't know what i would do but but like, no, cause his, I think the tricky thing is arm was locked and stiff and straight, but that's not, I don't think that's the spirit of that lift of what it's a completed lift is. I think you have to be upright,
Starting point is 01:47:17 you know, right, right. Yeah. I guess I, which you probably could have done to, had they just not given them the down command, he probably would like, I, that's what I think it doesn't matter because he it doesn't matter if
Starting point is 01:47:28 they even if they didn't give it to him he would have still won world's strongest man but i think i was prepared to see something really bad because i'd seen multiple instagram comments of like oh my god what was this what was this and uh i i was prepared to see basically a like not even lift the dumbbell and then when i finally did see the clip i thought oh actually that was better than i was expecting it to be but i can't see how people yeah i could i but i could see how you could have given someone the green light on that and in the heat of you know like while you're doing it but i do think it's the wrong call also i don't think it matters though so whatever yeah potato patata bag bag right i do not know how you would say it differently bag bag so tell me try and tell me again how someone else not us how someone would i think it's bag
Starting point is 01:48:26 well i'm saying it law i'm saying a long sound there so i think just bag bag i believe i just can't even still sound so weird to me though i just can't process in my mind yeah because it's one of those dumb things you're like it's like a single syllable and it's like turned into the whole rowad thing you know yeah that's what it's like to me i'm like i don't get it i i'm that's uh that's a tricky that's a hard one for me um we had a couple other things here you had a couple topics that are left in there i don't know what those are is those uh that we want to get one quick one it was funny when i was at the dog park this older guy goes what does your i had the varsity screw neck on okay yeah what does that sweatshirt say go massonomics oh
Starting point is 01:49:13 i thought it said massachusetts which was funny and then i go no no it's massonomics oh is that like a tech thing or something like uh you're like yeah yes it's a tech thing then i do the oh no it's a clothing company that makes like gym stuff and you have to oh okay and they're like checked out you know you're like if someone says oh i thought it said massachusetts and you'd be like wow you are a moron like like these are mostly not the right letters the first three letters are kind of right but the next seven or eight are wrong which also along those lines I forgot about this one I had to run to Walgreens the other day to
Starting point is 01:49:56 pick something up and uh while I'm there the I had the raise how lift heavy sweatshirt on. And the lady, I had to get diaper cream for my baby. And I'm checking out and she goes, oh, is this for the army? I'm like, does the army need diaper cream? And I go, what do you mean? She goes, the sweatshirt, is that for the army? I'm like, the raise outlift heavy shirt like what's it's olive green is that the army part of it and i go oh no it's uh just a clothing company i i own with a buddy oh cool okay and that was it and i have no idea where she got the army question in i
Starting point is 01:50:39 i my only guess is because it was an olive green shirt, right? Right. I mean, yeah, but like there's a lot of things that are that color that aren't like specifically associated with the Army. That's why I was so confused when she said, is this for the Army? I literally thought she was talking about the diaper cream because nothing else makes any sense in that context, you know? That one would have caught me off guard, I have to say. Yeah. It would have particularly caught me off guard.
Starting point is 01:51:05 I don't know what I would have even followed the train of thought on that one. All right. Glad I'm not the only one there. Yeah. The other thing I wrote here, I wrote down, this was funny. I was talking to a buddy on the phone the other day, and he made some comment about the TV show Friends, and he goes, oh, but you don't like that.
Starting point is 01:51:21 I'm like, yeah, you're damn right I don't like that show. I don't know if I've ever talked to you about this do you like the show Friends no I mean I know the show Friends of course and I've seen many episodes oh you have seen many episodes um I think Friends is way overrated well I think I think Friends is a chick show that's what I think it's such a lame show like it's too corny and way just cheesy and just way too 90s in the most dumb commercial way but my old one of my old roommates mr u he was obsessed it was his favorite show ever he had before you could stream stuff he had the entire thing on dvd and like once a year would just at least once a year would watch the entire
Starting point is 01:52:03 series through and then throughout the year just depending on what was going on he'd just pop in dvds and watch episodes and that was mind-blowing to me and i would even say i this is where you'll have the exception and i think i would agree with you if i actually watched it but i don't like any shows that use the sitcom format but then there's seinfeld yes and that's what seinfeld is tolerable and actually is the parallel to friends you know like yeah like if someone talks about friends the first thing i would compare is seinfeld and seinfeld is so much better than friends like it's not even like yeah this is just my personal do you like any any sitcoms though that use that
Starting point is 01:52:41 laugh track studio format like Like, not now. There's none that I... But did you ever? Yeah, I liked King of Queens. See, yeah, never watched that either. I liked Kevin James. I thought he was kind of... I thought his, like, physical comedy stuff was kind of funny.
Starting point is 01:52:58 Right. Like, he'd, like... Like, you know, he's a big fat guy on a diet, and all he gets for lunch is an apple, and, like, he literally, like, eats all on a diet and all he gets for lunch is an apple. And like, he literally like eats all around it. And then he eats the core even. And I just remember that I'm like, that just is funny to me. Like his, some of his comedy like that was funny for Seinfeld.
Starting point is 01:53:16 I love. Yeah. And I know that's kind of my exception. Well, I like cheers. I like even older. You know, I've never watched cheers. I've never watched it i like cheers a lot of people like two and a half men for a long time you know that was a big one
Starting point is 01:53:30 but i never i mean i've seen all of these like two and a half men i've probably seen 25 episodes but like i don't like it that i mean it's fine i've seen a few there and it was the same thing i had a roommate a different roommate that that was his favorite show we'd always watch two and a half men and it was to me just one of those things i was on in the background it never really clicked with me i'm trying to think of any other one i did like king of queens see it never yet never watched it a lot of people like big bang theory too that was yeah i've seen that that's oh that 70s show is that the name of it people like that show that one was one of the better ones on this list i think but i haven't seen a ton of that either.
Starting point is 01:54:06 I just never liked the format. Yeah. And you can go way back and say like Happy Days and stuff like that. Yeah, I liked like Drew Carey when I was young. I thought that doesn't even like get replayed, so it must be awful. It doesn't. Yeah, that is funny to think about. Because that used to be on a lot.
Starting point is 01:54:29 But I don't even, that's, have you ever seen that in the last 20 years on no no i actually forgot about that now that you say it or what about two guys a girl in a pizza place who was that who was the actor that's a show yeah two guys a girl in a pizza place i've heard of that it's old and i think they renamed the show after a while to just two guys and a girl but it's ryan reynolds that's where he got his start yeah never heard of that one but uh yeah i mean when did 1998 to 2001 so that's why it's old how i met your mother would fit this format right yeah and i do i do like how i met you no i don't like that that's the classic one that you don't like yeah i don't i it's i don would fit this format, right? Yeah, and I do like How I Met Your Mother. No, I don't like that show either. That's the classic one that you don't like, right?
Starting point is 01:55:06 Yeah, I don't like this format. I hate this format of shows. See, and How I Met Your Mother I like because I like Marshall. What's that actor? What's his name? Jason Segel. I think he's funny in there. And he is funny.
Starting point is 01:55:28 I like him. See, most of these shows, the ones I like, it's because there's comedians in there that I just think are funny, and I think that that's part of it. How I Met Your Mother I like. I don't love it. I like it decently, but Seinfeld I love because I could watch Seinfeld I don't know Seinfeld is weird in the sense where it's just like it's its
Starting point is 01:55:53 own uh universe kind of unlike like to a greater extent than any of these things where people just know it and I don't know you just like the episodes like even though I know all the episodes and everything that's going to happen you just watch it again and I just like I could just be a it could just be a forever filler for me like what you're talking about it's like it's like the office and stuff like that yeah okay the office and I do like those shows but I think what just lost me ever since I was a kid you get the studio environment and the laugh track and my brain just goes not here don't care and i had to i had to just type it in right now to see like what what are we missing
Starting point is 01:56:30 and rolling stone has a list of the greatest sitcoms of all time the first one they put number one on the list they do the simpsons which i'm like i kind of feel like that doesn't count uh then number two they have cheers three they have seinfeld four they have i love lucy and i remember that always being on when i was a kid all the time. I've watched that a bunch, actually. I used to watch Nick at Night, so I've seen a lot of I Love Lucy. All in the Family. I remember that was on a lot.
Starting point is 01:56:53 MASH kind of breaks the format a little bit. I do not like MASH. I've never seen it. It's one of those shows my parents watch, so I just hate it. It was like MASH was what was between me and watching something that I wanted to watch on the television. Never hate it. It was like MASH was what was between me and watching something that I wanted to watch on the television. Never watched it.
Starting point is 01:57:08 Mary Tyler Moore Show, never watched that. See, and then they have Parks and Rec, and to me that doesn't fit the format. I'm cool with that format. That format doesn't bug me at all. And same thing, Curb Your Enthusiasm, I don't think that counts either. So The Office was not on the list.
Starting point is 01:57:26 They don't have the office yet. Frazier. How could Parks and Rec be on there? That doesn't make any sense that, that Parks and Rec would be number nine, top 10 sitcoms of all time. I mean, how would that be above the office?
Starting point is 01:57:38 It doesn't make any sense. I mean, Parks and Rec isn't to me. It to me is, I is good, but I, to me, that was like a to me that's a poor man's office. It's kind of mine. Yeah, it feels like that's the B team.
Starting point is 01:57:51 Right. Andy Griffith Show, that's one I've seen a lot. That's the one where a lot of people's dad can just name every single thing that happens. Like that's my dad. He can just, like the second it starts starts no exactly what happens in the entire episode rosanne never liked it hated that show i watched that i didn't now i don't think i could really want to watch it but um malcolm in the middle never watched that one i never watched that either but then if i think about like abc tgif you know
Starting point is 01:58:27 there's full house family matters and i didn't like those shows either step by step yeah i hated all those uh do you remember step by step uh no okay you know like have you heard that name before is that oh yes yeah i know what the show is i just never watched it because i hated that stuff i liked family matters i never really liked full house that much no oh even along those lines actually the other day my wife had uh saved by the bell on yeah and i was just laughing about how just straight up cheesy it is oh and then it was some episode she's like oh you've never seen this one i'm like i've never seen any of these and she it was some episode she's like oh you've never seen this one i'm like i've never seen any of these and she couldn't believe it yeah she goes oh you didn't
Starting point is 01:59:09 watch these i'm like no i thought they all sucked so i didn't watch any of them and she just she couldn't believe that i had never seen that i've seen most of those how about boy meets world i do remember actually that was probably out of all of those things we just listed that were more like aimed at what? Yeah. Young teens. How about home improvement? That the act.
Starting point is 01:59:34 Okay. I take it back. Those two boy meets world, the home improvement. I probably saw an equal number of those, which still isn't very many, but as a kid, those were goofy enough.
Starting point is 01:59:41 It felt like both of them that I could find them a little more tolerable. Yeah. Home improvement. I liked the home home improvement was was pretty popular at a point because they do the goofy thing you know what is tim allen gonna break this week yes that's yeah that's where they do the goofy thing and then they'd like push the family thing in there and that was like the part i'd tune out on because I didn't care but yeah the goofy thing I was all about yeah so sitcoms now you know Seinfeld's the gold standard though and I couldn't uh I would that's like a fact in my book I'd be etched in stone um we did have an we'll do a want to do a quick under over under just for the sake of doing it. Good call.
Starting point is 02:00:26 Yeah. Okay. Overrated or underrated post Malone relevant topic. That is a real good topic. I actually had that in there already. So that's a good one. I kind of think he might be a little overrated now. There was definitely a time where he was underrated.
Starting point is 02:00:47 Yeah. But. It doesn't seem like that's anymore though, does it? No. I do remember we went to. So there used to be this hip hop music festival in Minneapolis every year called Soundset. Hip hop anonymous? Exactly.
Starting point is 02:01:01 Called Soundset. And we'd go every year. And my wife and I, we were talking about it. And it's funny to think that one of the, they quit doing it, I think, in 2018 or 2019 was the last year they did it. After, I don't know, 10. No, yeah. They actually timed it perfect. But it was either 2018 or 2019.
Starting point is 02:01:23 Post Malone was there. And my wife was a very big fan of him at the time. But it was either 2018 or 2019. Post Malone was there. And my wife was a very big fan of him at the time. But he was the guy that was on the tiny, tiny stage in the middle of the day. And we didn't go see him because Ty Dolla was on it the same time as him. We're like, oh, no, Ty Dolla is a bigger name. We both like him more. So we didn't go see Post Malone. And now he would be the biggest name without a
Starting point is 02:01:45 doubt if he were to go there yeah if they were even still having it but it so like at that point yeah he was totally underrated i do think he is a touch overrated now though yeah do you like that uh chemical song without now i don't even i don't even think i've heard it new song chemical yeah i knew he had a new one come out but i haven't listened to it yet it's pretty good he's just turning way more into just a pop act very much so if you listen to his most you'd be like oh these are all just songs that they play on yeah every radio station yeah i think you get your team helping you write stuff yeah all right this will sound good do this Overrated or underrated dandelions? Well, I was going to say overrated,
Starting point is 02:02:31 but most people would say that too. I don't think they really serve any purpose other than making grass look yellow. So I will say that dandelions are overrated. Yeah, there's a big thing about dandelions that, um, you know, we all spray them to kill them and that, uh, there's a lot of argument that we shouldn't, people shouldn't be doing that, that like all the chemicals, not just the fact of using chemicals, but what we all do to our lawns is actually, uh, detriment. I mean, everything that happens, people have a case for it being bad in nature, so I don't want to sound like that.
Starting point is 02:03:09 But really, there could be something, too, that what everyone does to their lawns is not actually good in many ways. It's not really good for anything at all other than having this artificial, what we've come to accept as being look, what a really good lawn looks like, you know, I, I totally, well,
Starting point is 02:03:27 and then you add in how much water goes to waste every year for the second irrigating lawns. Right. And if you like, if you look up dandelions, you can find a lot of argue articles about people making their arguments about what that dandelions are in fact, very good for
Starting point is 02:03:45 bugs oh i believe all this stuff you know where i'm like um that all being said yeah we treat our lawn we treat the shit out of you're telling me that a perfectly green lawn that gets uh fertilized and sprayed for pests multiple times a year you're telling me that's not good for the environment right right um but there's a lot of like proponents about dandelions actually which is kind of a funny was a funny thing to me when i started looking into that more i mean i could believe it it's not just natural like i've got it programmed in my head though that it doesn't uh look that i they piss me off you know just like they are if you're like i want a green lawn then it's annoying to have them there but yeah it's it's one of those things you know you're gonna stop water and you're gonna stop well
Starting point is 02:04:36 like a lot of parts of the country you can't even do it because you know your lawn will be out of out of regulation with whatever the hell rules you where you live yeah maybe someday i'll be out of out of regulation with whatever the hell rules you where you live yeah maybe someday i'll i'll come around on that but tell you the truth we're in our yard my family play in our yard all the time and it's really nice having oh a good really nice turf where people can just roll around we all run around in our you, like people it's bare feet all the time and it's nice to be able to do that. It is. I've lived where, uh,
Starting point is 02:05:10 where the, my first house, the yard was really shitty. Yeah. Like in July, the only time you reason you have to mow is just to knock the weeds down because the grass hadn't grown in over a month and you didn't want to walk around in that because you'd have thistles in your feet and it was dirt and
Starting point is 02:05:24 rocks. And yeah, once you get on the other side of it it is really nice yeah it is uh overrated or underrated jimmy fallon oh that's okay that's a good one because a lot of people i don't think like jimmy fallon anymore and to me jimmy fallon was always the snl like goofy guy and that was really when i was growing up with snl and i thought it was so funny and he could like do musical stuff and all that and to most people he's just the late night guy that's an annoying late night guy but right no one ever likes late night guys everyone always hates them all so because i think most people don't actually like him that much i'm gonna say he's underrated jimmy fallon was weekend update right he was weekend update and yeah he
Starting point is 02:06:13 just did like it felt like he did so many skits where there was music involved or someone playing a guitar something like that and i always thought they were so funny and back in the day i remember multiple times him i think it was multiple times hosting like the mtv music or movie awards or something and i always thought it was so funny when he would host those shows i even had a song like oh show jimmy's gonna host the show like this whole thing oh i thought they were all so good i think jimmy fallon's funny you know i think he's i think people don't like him because he laughs at himself too much he does i think hey but he's having a good time i'd love to be able to laugh that much exactly i bet he's just fun as hell to hang out with like that like what part of that wouldn't
Starting point is 02:06:55 be kind of fun yeah all he's got to do is do this damn show every single night yeah have the roots as his backing band yeah i'd be having fun i'd be laughing i wouldn't be able to talk i'd be laughing so much that's right yeah is this annoying guys because i'm having too much fun yes okay last topic overrated and underrated this one's worth all the marbles over under takis tacos takis takis what the hell's a taki you gotta look t-a-k-i-s see if you've had these before Takis? What the hell is a taki? You got to look. T-A-K-I-S. See if you've had these before. Let's see. Oh, I haven't actually had these.
Starting point is 02:07:35 I've seen them around. You're aware of takis? Yeah. Yeah, I've just never bought them before. Takis are pretty popular. They are. Are they all super hot? I don't know. But that's kind of their thing, isn't it?
Starting point is 02:07:46 Like my son Jack eats Takis all the time. And I mean, I see him around all the time now. But that's kind of their thing, though, is like they're spicy, right? I think so, maybe. Yeah. I mean, half the pictures have them in flames, so I'd assume they're kind of spicy. I mean, we don't sell anything it doesn't mean anything
Starting point is 02:08:06 i wouldn't make any assumptions i mean this one right here uh assuming it's real says zombie nitro flavor like that sounds pretty intense they they do have so yeah yeah their marketing is very uh fuego uh nacho explosion there's fires and jalapenos on the yeah blue heat so maybe you have to go uh not an opinion net on takis yeah i gotta i'll try to remember to go get some yeah my wife loves snacks so if they're good she'll be all about it. Yeah, I don't know. Takis, man. Why? Do you like them? I don't really like shit like that that much.
Starting point is 02:08:50 Like, they seem fine. Okay, if you had to pick these or Doritos, what would you pick? I don't really like Doritos that much. I don't really like that stuff that much. So, Takis wins out? Yeah. You know what? I would like a walking taco made out of Doritos.
Starting point is 02:09:10 Can I choose that? Well, that was not the option. Can I put beef and cheese? Would you like chicken strips or something else? I'll go with a steak. Wasn't the option. I guess I would pick Takis they kind of are i think they're if i remember right they're like really hard and crunchy or they're harder and crunchier and i kind of like
Starting point is 02:09:33 that maybe all right they're like the jawbreaker of chips the tooth breaker i don't they're not that hard and crunchy but they're like uh i i feel like some for some reason to me like doritos are like stale 50 of the time maybe that's just my own experiences but like just yeah it might be a personal thing doritos just just seem stale by their nature to me i don't know i don't really eat doritos often i mean i eat doritos a couple times a year is how often i eat Doritos often. I mean, I eat Doritos a couple of times a year is how often I eat Doritos. You know what? I'd rather have just a good chip with a good salsa dip. Oh yeah. That's also not a choice here. Yes, but that's, yeah, we're talking pre-made shit in a bag here, but I have Doritos so rarely that when I do have them, I always think these are
Starting point is 02:10:20 always better than I remember them being. I always think in my head they're shitty, and then I have them and think it's actually pretty damn good. But again, I have them a couple times a year as well. Yeah. I don't really like that. I don't like that that much. I don't really like Pringles and chips and stuff. How about Funyuns? I can go without those. If those went away, I wouldn't care. My boy loves Funyuns I can go without those
Starting point is 02:10:45 if those run away I wouldn't care my boy loves Funyuns they're good none of this tastes bad can anyone eat a Dorito and be like yuck well if they're stale maybe even then there's just so much stuff
Starting point is 02:11:00 flavor on the stuff has so much flavor science has just got it down to perfection much stuff flavor like it's like the stuff has so much flavor like just passed into person science has just got it down to perfection they can't make that formula any better what about what are the hard cheesy crumb like what's the nacho guy what's that guy nacho guy well not the nacho guy but is he the dorito guy or? Not the Doritos, but the really hard... The Cheetos? Cheetos.
Starting point is 02:11:28 What's the Cheeto? The tiger? Is that a tiger? Yeah, isn't it? What is that guy? Is that the guy still around? Oh, yeah. He's got to be, right?
Starting point is 02:11:36 Or do you just have to watch kids shows? Chester the Cheetah. There you go. So he's a cheetah. Uh-huh. Kind of like a more family-friendly Joe Camel, if you will. It's like a Joe Camel with his, like, giant head on his small body. I feel like I used to see Chester the cheetah, like, 17 times a day.
Starting point is 02:12:00 And now I feel like I haven't seen Chester the cheetah, like, once in two years. All right. Here's a deep cut for you. I had to just Google this to make sure my brain was not remembering this correctly. Did you know there was a Chester the Cheetah video game? No. Yes, it was for the Super Nintendo and it came out. Okay, see, that would be the pinnacle of Chester the Cheetah to me.
Starting point is 02:12:21 Yep, and that would be 1992. Do you remember? remember okay along these lines there was also i'm pretty sure this is real uh drummer seven up their logo was like those little red dots yeah yeah oh i played that video game yeah there was a seven up video game the cool spot which nintendo on nes it was a sick game how was this how did they make a video game about red dots that are a soda mascot? That's a fun game, though. I haven't played that. Did you ever play that?
Starting point is 02:12:54 I remember it existing. I don't know if I ever played it, but I do remember seeing it. Yeah, I had that game. One of my friends probably had it. Yeah, imagine you're so good at soft drink marketing that you do that. Yeah, you convince our... First of all, our mascot is a red dot with arms and legs and now he also needs to be in a video game i don't know man the snack food marketing sucks compared to what it used to be like yeah the 90s should just ain't what it used to be had life by the balls
Starting point is 02:13:22 they had something figured out that's for sure but i both of those are excellent uh case studies to me that seven up and cheetos they have to sell way less than they did 20 years ago uh-huh i think so and the kool-aidid man, you know? Yeah. Put him up there with the Planters peanut guy too. Yeah. So, but what I was wondering is, do you like Cheetos? If I'm going to do Cheetos. Cheetos and Doritos. If I had to pick Cheetos, for sure the hard crunchy ones,
Starting point is 02:13:58 not the poofy ones, you know? That was going to be my other, like what about those poofy balls, like where you buy like a five like what about those poofy balls like the like where you buy like a five gallon thing of like that to me is the one where you say this is shitty but it's good because it's shitty you know right like there's no expectations you you know what those do those fill in your molars yes for like seven hours while you're saying that i'm literally licking my molars because that's like mentally what you start doing about those cheesy poof balls makes your molars full of like it does i got i gotta like clean them
Starting point is 02:14:30 out preemptively here what are those even made out of like what's the primary ingredient it's just got to be puffed rice or like corn like there's got to be something like that in it right it's got to be one of those puffed with cheese dust all over it. Yeah. Yeah, Chester the Cheetah definitely seems like he was on cocaine. He was on more than just cheesy poof dust. Chester the Cheetah in his prime really seemed like he was on party drugs. You know, they really missed an opportunity with the whole Tiger King wave like two years ago. He could have made a big comeback then yeah maybe since he's a cheetah
Starting point is 02:15:10 they didn't think they just thought yeah oh yeah he's just the cheetah not just a tiger well they could have just switched him to a tiger and people probably would have went everyone would have been like i guess that seems right yeah everyone would have been like, I guess that seems right. Yeah. It would have been that Mandela effect or whatever. People like, was this thing used to be a cheetah? I could have swore he wasn't a tiger. And they're like,
Starting point is 02:15:32 no, no stripes. And he used to have spots or Chester, the tiger and Tony, the tiger. It's the two tigers that everyone, he had a, he seemed like he smoked like a pack of cigarettes a day too
Starting point is 02:15:46 yeah all right here's another here is another mascot video game uh do you know what domino's mascot was these noids it's like a it almost looks like a human in a red, uh, rabbit costume. Kind of. I'm having to look it up. I don't know. Just off of,
Starting point is 02:16:13 Oh, the kind of unlocked a deep memory sort of seeing this. I don't really, yeah, yeah. I don't remember. You have a hard time pinning it down, but there was a video game for those things too.
Starting point is 02:16:23 I see him with crash Bandicoot on something here when I'm looking at images of it. I see Yo-Noid on the original Nintendo. That's a really weird mascot. It is. Probably not as weird as those Quiznos things though. Those are the weirdest ever, but I love those things. Those are the best.
Starting point is 02:16:44 I don't know why quiznos is not still okay i just saw this the other day i don't know if it was on an instagram post or what you know what it said was the reason quiznos had a sharp decline what was it because as a franchise you were required you know like all franchises you're required to buy your um your food supplies, all that. Yeah, sure. So you would buy your franchise from the Quiznos. All right, I got a Quiznos. I'm starting my own franchise.
Starting point is 02:17:15 I pay my franchise fees to you. And then they say, oh, yeah, by the way, also you buy all of your food from us directly too. I don't know if that's not how most franchises typically work or not. But apparently they ramped up the pricing so much and so aggressively that they were very
Starting point is 02:17:29 hostile to their own franchisees to the point where they put their own franchisees out of business. And that's why they pretty much all... So that's why. Yeah. That makes more sense than... Because my opinion has to be the same as everyone else's. Like nobody could possibly have a different opinion,
Starting point is 02:17:46 but I really liked Quiznos, so RIP Quiznos. Yeah, it sounded like the corporate was too hostile towards franchisees to the point where they made it almost impossible. Yeah. In 2007, they were already suing the chain forming rogue franchise associations okay i did have firehouse subs for the first time like oh yeah you didn't say that have you had that i've had it once yes it was pretty good it was not quiznos still i would still take quiznos over it but but it is my 1B choice
Starting point is 02:18:27 when it comes to, like, Subway sandwich shops. Yeah, there's got to be one here somewhere, I'm sure, so I should probably try that again. Also, what's, like, $15 or something like that? There is a sandwich shop here. There's a Capriotti sandwich shop. And they're a chain. They're in places.
Starting point is 02:18:51 And their whole thing is fillies. And I love a Philly. Like that's one of my favorite meals. I don't even really like sandwiches that much, but a Philly just does it for me. Yeah. And I got a fairly good size one and you do peppers and onions and all that on it. And I was feeling saucy that day, so I got the drink and the chips to go with it.
Starting point is 02:19:11 Yeah, how much? This was now like three or four months ago, so I might be remembering wrong, but pretty sure it was like $18.50. And that is a lot for what is basically a fast-food sandwich for one person. Too much, you could say. Yeah, that is a lot, isn't it? It's almost $20. A lot, a lot.
Starting point is 02:19:31 Yeah, too much. You can buy a steak some places for that. You can buy steaks in the grocery store for that all day. Yes. Yeah, it's hard to wrap my head around that for a sandwich but i mean it was good it was good i will give him that it was good right but uh it was also expensive uh chester the cheetah also not as good as whiplash the cowboy monkey no no no he's not and now i just think of him as chester the tiger now they're cheetos that's good yeah i could kind of get like all of them wrapped up in my head to the being the
Starting point is 02:20:12 all parts of each other when i think about it where i'm like yeah chester the cheetah shares a lot of characteristics with the kool-aid man if i really think about it and uh like and and joe camel and the budweiser frogs joe camel yeah the clydesdale i just like to think of them as all being friends you know yeah they all hang out together isn't that funny that when you were kids the budweiser frogs was actually like a fun funny thing to talk about as a kid it's about this beer thing like these frogs and they say budweiser it's so funny it's also funny that they're this beer company's marketing gripped like 10-year-olds by the... I know.
Starting point is 02:20:51 It was one of the commercials you would actually talk about as a kid was these beer frogs. Yeah. You know what else I would talk about? What's that? Juggernaut AI. Juggernaut AI. Juggernaut AI. How does it work? Someone's probably wondering.

It'll save you 10% for the lifetime of your membership. head over to juggernautai.app use code massonomics it'll save you 10 for the lifetime of your membership you know i'm just thinking here tanner that i think i think the mascot the animal mascot is an underutilized thing in branding nowadays maybe we need like have you seen you seen a lot of new animal mascots popping up on the scene lately not enough you them everyone just goes with the clean type now that's what's trendy not enough not enough new kool-aid man that's entering the scene i want to see like uh like white claw come out with like a white claw man you know well keystone had keystone light man for a while was it keystone oh sorry sorry sorry you know what i'm mixing up my uh history here uh they
Starting point is 02:22:44 had keystone. Didn't they have Keystone? They had Keystone. I'm just remembering in college, actually. What about Mayhem? Well, it's not an animal, though. I'm trying to think of something that's a little more animal and less person. I was getting my stories mixed up, though, because in college I had some buddies that had.
Starting point is 02:22:57 What about Jake from State Farm? Is that an animal? It's getting warmer, but still not an animal. Flo? Yeah. getting warmer but yep still not an animal flow uh yeah uh yeah she still doesn't cut it oh geico the gecko yep they got him but he's kind of just everywhere he's his old news he's been done yeah that's old too that's not new either can't turn on the tv without seeing that damn gecko right did you say i just keep rattling them oh interrupting you i was getting keystone general mixed up again not an animal does have a furry face though there was a can of keystone that was on a beer display in some liquor store like an oversized can he was probably
Starting point is 02:23:45 a couple feet tall and he had muscular arms and legs on him and for whatever reason my buddies somehow got this from the liquor store and it was keystone light man and they even had a facebook page for him which was really funny at the time because it seemed so stupid but uh, that a mascot, just a display in a store. So I was getting him next round. Close enough. Yeah. Oh, actually, I am still friends with him on Facebook. Keystone Light Man. And he still has pictures of my friends with him on Facebook, too.
Starting point is 02:24:17 They all wished him happy birthday in September of 2011. So yeah, he's been around a while. Keystone Light Man. I don't know many other animal mascots though like that i think we need one yeah well we kind of try it with massonomics gym every so often you know we yeah we have something to yeah We have some animal thing going on, but... Right, right. Nothing that's like our animal, you know? Right.

I was thinking about windbreaker, break wind. How dare you break wind before me with the Austin Powers scene. Probably doesn't work as a meme, but it is funny to think of this. Right, if we can use it to sell the windbreaker. Right, yeah. Is there something
Starting point is 02:27:05 there's something how dare you break wind before me oh i didn't realize it was your turn so stupid yeah that is funny powers good stuff ah that's i was thinking of videos to do with the windbreaker you know i don't know what I was had some different ideas and now it just kind of escapes me but so I got to write those things down when they come to you I know in one ear out the other sometimes it's not what you know it's who you know um this is a two and a half hour episode so if you listen i'm really glad i won on broken i'm really glad i hit the reset button because uh remember i said oh i can only record for two hours and 12 minutes
