Thanks for what you do with your podcasts and all the rest.
You're doing a great job.
Hope everybody keeps tuning in.
You get a lot of good info, a lot of insights,
understandings on how to get strong, how to stay strong,
how to use your strength.
You do a great job, dude.
You make things better than they are in real life, I think.
If you don't follow Massanomics, y'all do it.
Social media, website, everything.
Massanomics! What's up everyone?
We're back for episode 453 of the Masanomics Podcast.
We are the Lifting Podcasts About Nothing.
We are recording from the corners of the Dakotas.
My name is Tanner
and my name is Tommy.
And episode 453 we've got a special holiday relevant title
topic where we're going to discuss the holiday lifter gift
buying guide for all budgets any and all budgets that will fit in
to talk about buying equipment. I mean, what is there a better topic that exists?
Not that I've ever heard of.
This is maybe the best topic that ever existed.
It won an award for best topic ever.
It's a topic you have a lot of experience in
and I'm growing my experience in it.
Yeah, and maybe there's some equipment adjacent things,
because a lifter, I mean, equipment's gonna to be a lot of what a lifter might buy.
But maybe there's some other stuff, some knickknacks, pattywacks in there also.
But first, I want to tell everyone how this episode is brought to you by Juggernaut AI.
Juggernaut AI is the training that we use.
Tommy is currently using it.
Tommy, how's your Juggernaut AI training going?
Is it going well?
Dude, I, today, RP 10 Deadlift Day, it had me-
Might as well have been the morning paper.
Dude, it might as well have been.
It was 420 for a set of five, 420 Blazat Man,
and I blazed that thing.
It was just, it's probably the best form I've ever had
for a set over 400.
It was way too easy.
What did you mark the RP as when it's all said and done done like seven and a half? Oh, you weren't even close then
You should have been like 440. No, it was too easy. I know it really was but I haven't that's the heaviest deadlift
I've done since the meat
So I didn't know where I was at
So now all of a sudden my deadlift max is like showing to be in the mid the the loader the low mid-five
So it's uh, yeah, cuz what'd you do at the meet?
I missed for I missed 500. So my final one was like 480 I think
or 475 is what I thought you're well above that by now then.
Well, I think if I wasn't sick for like six straight months, I
definitely would be I'm probably around there. But yeah, things
are going great. Thanks, John. Yeah.
Yeah, that's that's what Juggernaut AI does for
you. And, you know, someone in the Discord even just today had
a question they said, I've got a meet coming up. What do you
think? Do I stick on using Juggernaut AI? Do I hire a
coach? And there's pros and cons to both. A big difference
is the price Juggernaut AI with discount code
I'm gonna cost 30 bucks a month right around that which is extremely affordable for what you get
It's a big value is about a dollar a day depending on the month and I don't actually want to discount
Especially in-person coaching. I think there could be a big value to that for some people
But I don't also don't know if everyone needs that that much,
especially like regular in-person coaching.
You know, like it's-
Yeah, I think it requires you to have
a little self-awareness of knowing where you're at
in your lifter journey and your experience level.
Right, right.
So it could, depending on what your budget is,
what your goals are, where you're at,
different things might be well.
But I do honestly think the Juggernaut AI
can be a great choice for a lot of people because it's not an in-person coach, but it's about some of the most sensical
programming that you can get.
And it's at 30 bucks a month and it's progressive.
It progresses you specifically towards your meet or your testing day.
You know, it's phasic in the sense that you're going to go through different phases of the training that just kind of makes sense
as you do work towards that meet day or just your testing day.
And anecdotally for us, it works. So what else do you need to know it works?
Discount code, Mastinomics, you use it at juggernautai.app.
You got to use it on the website and not through the app. Don't ask me why that's just the rules. We follow them
This episode is also brought to you by barefoot shoes tanner
Have you seen this new piece of footwear they've added to the collection don't even yeah
We can talk about it a little bit, but I don't want to talk about that too much yet as a matter of fact
I have actually multiple things to say about that. Oh you do. Okay. All right. Well, so maybe we could
Not include that so much in your ad
Barefoot has added a new shoe. I'll just give you the high
They've added a new shoe it is the same from what I can tell I don't know anything about the shoe then I saw Instagram
Post that I'm now on the website it's the same Ursus upper that
we've come to know and love but it has a slightly thicker sole to it that is all
I know at the moment Tanner seems to have the some more deets on this one so
I'm just gonna hold off on that but barefoot shoes they support this show
you should support them as well they have a lot of great footwear options now
we have officially had snow in South Dakota I
believe Tanner has had even more snow than I have had up in the winter
wonderland up there probably Fargo's just buried they're probably under feet
of snow right now digging they're probably digging the city out as we
speak right now but if you were facing conditions like that I think you should
hop on over to barefoot shoes and get a pair of the Bruin boots now is a great time of year to add those into your collection and if you are facing conditions like that, I think you should hop on over to Barefoot Shoes and get a pair of the Bruin boots.
Now is a great time of year
to add those into your collection.
And if you want a Made in America option,
they also have the Bruin Patriot boot as well.
Give you that great Barefoot style boot
in an American made package.
So head on over to Barefoot.store, use code Massenomics,
and you can save 10% on your next order. Bare dot store code Mastinomics saves you 10% Thank You bear

Yes, I love to open it up on you Waterloo orange vanilla. Oh
Hell yeah, I've got something special this was a
Crew Gift from the lift hard Liv easy classic this July. It was actually literally this can that's in there
But it came with the koozie. Also, it's a special limited edition unpaid and underrated
Also, it's a special limited edition unpaid and underrated
Says it right there, too, and it's a long skinny boy can because we all know Keith drinks
Make ultra is the finest IPA the fought his favorite IPA the Mick ultra and this was from big Chris
Dominguer he brought this to the Dominguer's brought us this
the doming guards
Gave us this this can and koozie. I think you drink I don't have mine because no ultra is safe in this house apparently
It was I actually held people off for a long time for drinking it and somehow in the last couple weeks
It did finally disappear. So yeah, so thank you to unpaid and underrated check out their podcast
You've had thank you to the domingars
to unpaid and underrated check out their podcast if hasn't thank you to the
doming gars
out of PA and Jay, I guess and Jay they're in that
that New England
Northeast area Are they from New Jersey Central Jersey? I think is that Central Jersey. Yeah, isn't that the joke is there's no central there's no central Jersey
So I'm gonna crack this open. You've already cracked yours
What do you what do your thoughts on mcultra? Where does it? What are your general thoughts? I mean, it's like any light beer
I don't know how you could have a strong flavor on something that's for the lightest light beer
Like is it the lightest light beer? Is that I don't know is it I mean like what are we?
That's like mark like one calorie
Yeah, let's see.
I just gotta...
What's the lightest light beer?
I wonder what chat GPT would say.
Nickelobe Ultra has 95 calories per 12 ounce serving.
I think their light has less than that, don't they?
Do they, actually?
Okay.
Miller Light has, oh, 96 ounces.
They're one higher, so.
96 cal.
They chipped them.
And what about carbs?
This is 2.6.
Oh, oh, Miller Lite is 3.2 grams of carbs.
Jeez.
Let's see Bud Lite.
Carbo loading over there on the Millers.
Bud Lite has.
You got the Bud Lite.
Of course, the, oh oh carbs, wait a minute.
Let's do this.
Bud Light carbs.
Don't give it, okay, 12 ounces.
11 gram?
Geez.
Yeah, this says 11 grams for 12 ounces.
No, that's Budweiser.
Ah, I like how I type in Bud Light, it gives me Budweiser.
Yeah. Well, Google decided to change the format of how it I type in Bud Light. Oh, that makes more sense. Yeah.
Well, Google decided to change the format of how it's showing that stuff. So I don't see it immediately.
Okay, well, we get the general idea. And I would say I have no
problem with McAulter. I've always thought it's a just fine
serviceable beer, non offensive. It's one of them beers.
I don't know how someone could have very, very strong feelings
against one light beer versus the other because they're kind of all the same
About the end well the only thing I would say and I just said I would drink a Mick Ultra
And I have no problem with them, and I think they're good
To me I have this perception that Mick Ultra is a girly beer
Am I alone in that do you feel like like that? I thought that way, probably.
If you're going to give your like someone's wife that doesn't really drink beer, if they
were going to have a beer, they'd have a Mick Ultra.
So I, eight years ago would have agreed with you. I felt like that was the way they branded
themselves then, or at least that's how it came off. They've made a lot of effort to
brand themselves as like a golf beer. Now I just think of them as a golf beer.
Yeah, it is like a golf beer. Now I just think of them as a golf beer. Yeah, it is like a golf beer now.
And so that just means people drink them.
It means golfers are girly.
Yeah, just reinforcing the stereotype.
But that was a thing then.
I think it was, unless I was just...
Or at least you thought that,
or at least maybe in our Midwest region,
it was, you know, maybe that's not even a, wasn't a nationwide perception,
but at least to some degree it was,
or in some areas it was.
I gotta see what like an ultra can used to look like.
And I wanna specifically say,
I couldn't care less about that.
Like that doesn't make me drink or not drink it,
but that just is something that I feel like I've noticed.
Yeah.
Now if you're drinking a white cloth, now we know that's a girly drink right there.
Well, there ain't no laws when you're drinking the Claws.
I don't hear about white Claws near as much as,
like, those really popped off of four years ago.
Well, not the fact that everyone makes that same drink.
I think it's just...
You don't even really say white Claws anymore
because it's one of 4,000 different people
that all make the same thing.
Did you know there's Monster makes a seltzer?
Yeah, that sounds familiar.
I did not know they did. And I was with Ryan this past weekend and he said the white one
is like you're drinking a white monster. He said it tastes just like it, which I don't know if
I want that feeling of alcohol to be a white monster, But interesting nonetheless, I did not know it existed.
Yeah, that is kind of interesting.
That was the drink.
Oh, I wanted to recap the Black Friday drop.
We lived through the other side to tell the tale.
And just so everyone knows, we did make our nut.
Our nut was officially made.
Everyone wanted to know the status of our nut
Whole lot of nah
Yeah, we was a big nut we were the nut was great. No complaints on the nut. It was a satisfying nut
It did go really well
Did went awesome. We're super happy with it. I guess I would say and we're really thankful for everyone that
Happy with it. I guess I would say and we're really thankful for everyone that
Supported that purchased something a bunch of people purchased multiple things a bunch of people purchased multiple times
It was it was cool. It was it's always it's exciting. It's an exciting
It is because there's so much it's another one of those things where there's so much work that goes into it between
You know our typical drop is two to three items. And you know, one or two of those is an apparel,
sometimes all three are apparel,
but usually it's one or two and it's something else.
And it's not like this huge ordeal
where when you have like nine items.
It's a big deal for like us.
Yes, nine items, you got to photograph all of them.
You got to market all of them.
You got to make emails for all of them.
We had to really make the decisions on even order. We had to like finalize nine items
to even decide like what we even really wanted. It's just a lot. And then I think of like how
much work I put in to get that side ready. And then it's like I hand the baton off to Tanner
and then it's like, oh, okay. Now that there's all this other work that has to take place. And
it's great to see that yes, there actually was work that had to take place because
people did buy stuff. So it was very rewarding. It went very
good. And yeah, it makes it all worth it.
And everything's been shipped out. So people should actually
somebody big Antonia posted he already had received his package,
which that was really fast. I think that went to Sue. Oh, really?
I assumed he was in Aberdeen when he got that.
I don't think so.
I went to the mail listening live.
Maybe maybe I'm I don't even remember where I know I it did go in the mail.
Oh, yeah.
Colton, Big Colton got his in a suit.
So South Dakota people are getting theirs today.
What is today? Today's Tuesday.
That went literally got picked up Monday.
Right now, that's because we upgrade everyone overnight shipping right we just didn't tell them hmm
Actually though that is part of the thing a lot of people ordered a lot of stuff and a lot of stuff was sweatshirts
So a lot of stuff was heavy enough that it has to go priority and priority does actually ship a little bit faster
All right, if something's off under a pound we can ship at first class and sometimes they'll get there at the same but priority
Well, what's this I'm hearing about the Canadian postal strike? What's that about? Yeah, actually the only
Packages that haven't gone out. I have them packed right here down by my feet are a few that need to go to Canada
That I just I think I can ship them ups
But I just need to double check. I don't want to put these out into the ups and then have them
Not to be able to make their destination get lost and send back. So but yeah Canadian
You know their version of USPS whatever they call it is on strike
I have no idea what any of the details are I I would just assume the employees wanna get paid more,
right, that's what people strike for.
It'd be actually really funny if they were striking
for something totally not compensation related.
Right, right.
Yeah.
That would be, wouldn't that suck if,
I mean, I know we have other options internally,
you know, in our country with DPS and FedEx,
but it would still suck if that-
Yeah, it's annoying.
Especially at this time of year especially at this time of year.
Especially this time of year.
Yeah, but overall thank you to everyone that ordered.
We do still have, everything sold great.
We do still have some stuff left.
You know, I'm looking, our shelves are way emptier
than what they were a week ago, like cut in half.
Some of the items, it's amazing how many of them we sold,
and like the formula for stocking worked perfect.
Right, so that's what I was going to say, there's a lot of sizing left.
There's a few items where there's no items out of stock,
and there's actually not that many units in stock total.
Right. So, you know, check out any of that stuff.
We had the new Wine Jim Tea, which sold awesome.
Like that crushed it on the... Yeah, on the... Comfort colors. Check out any of that stuff. We had the new wine Jim T which sold awesome like that
Yeah Comfort colors comfort colors like a little bit boxier tea that one sold kicked ass. We have the crispy boys tea
metal nomics sweatshirts
Yep, and the hat still
Got some of this patch hat.
Yeah.
I was just looking at the patch again earlier.
I really liked that patch hat in person.
Yep.
When you can really see that thing, it looks really good.
That is an in-person thing that really makes it pop.
And then the, I think the sleeper thing,
the one thing that I would just,
I'm just telling people not enough people have bought it
because I know how nice it is when you have it in
person is the fanny pack that I'm like the people that got this are gonna be really happy with it and
We do still have a decent number of those left
And I feel like those should sell and that'll be something where if we ever have them in person
I know we'll sell way more of them because people will see it and be like yep
I want that for sure it turned out really good
Fanny pack underrated then obviously.
Anything else about that drop or is that pretty much
it's a bow on it?
I don't think so.
I just know you were gone on vacation
and I'm sure you were seeing the orders coming in
thinking I got work to do.
Yeah, I took thank you cards with me,
a stack of thank you cards about this big with me to and at night when people were watching TV I was writing writing thank you cards getting so just one less the end.
I had things pretty button down here before I left that I knew that I could just walk in here with the thank you cards and sit down and get right where the assembly line get going and that's kind of kind of did work
Big Anthony said you were writing them. That's not what mine showed
I actually did have Annie wrote a couple of them for me when we were so
Annie did write Antoni's I remember that one specifically. It's a special one limited. Yeah
So a few people got ones some written by Annie even to
We are I don't think we need to talk about that much because the next Limited. Yeah. So a few people got one. Some written by Annie even to.
We are I don't think we need to talk about that much
because the next week after that's going to be follow up from it,
but just a few days till crew falls.
Dude, I'm pumped.
It's going to be. Yeah.
Got got the garage pretty well cleaned out.
I'm going to be scrubbing the floors Thursday and no cars are going in.
So everything is pristine because
you know we got a little bit of snow and that does make a big mess in there so I'll get
that cleaned up get the final things organized and oh I'm ready for the garage to have its
to have its get its limelight yeah that'll just be an Wednesday Thursday Friday three
days from now yeah and we've we've got a fun weekend planned.
It's turning into a bit lot bigger thing
than it was the year before.
I'll say that about it.
Yes it is.
And that's okay, that's good I think, right?
That's only happening because a lot of people
are interested.
I think there's 40 people coming.
Now we're at like an even 40 people that I think,
and not everyone will be there for every part of it,
but I think we'll hang out with 40 total crew members
This weekend scans is open about asking about the weather. I believe it's supposed to be in the mid 30s possibly even 40s this weekend
I think Saturday could be 40s
I think it's showing like a high of 45 or something which we're looking out because the prior you know the last week has been cold
We hold a lot colder than that.
And we're going to get like really good weather for it.
So are people coming from California and Arizona and stuff, they're going to be, it's almost
unfortunate.
They're not going to get a real good taste of South Dakota winter.
Not like last year where people were brave in the storm.
It was like 50 mile per hour wind.
So you will hear a lot of follow up from us on crew falls on the coming weeks. But I don't think it's garage
door gonna be a garage door open.
Well, probably not. We'll keep it warm.
We got to use that new heater. Yeah, we're gonna sweat it rack
up your electric bill.
Dude, I had it today. Hour and a half in I was up to 56 degrees.
I said, Oh, that's enough. Better shut it down here. Yeah.
Don't need to get too hot.
You don't want to get too hot all at once. No, we gotta leave something.
You also had, well, do we want to get started on our title topic at all? Or
talk about some of the or get in there? Or because we could also do title topic for a while and then come back to a couple of these other things
Maybe before we get into title topic. Should we talk about the the equipment scores? Yeah, we better talk about too exciting, right?
Yeah, that's pretty that's pretty high priority right there. Okay. All right, so this is what you get
This is a good story
This is this is a pretty unique story as far as finding equipment goes
I was back in my hometown of Milbank, South Dakota,
population of about 3,200.
I was there over Thanksgiving weekend.
And you're sitting around, not much to do.
Your light's going crazy, Tanner.
Yeah, one of them blinked.
I think maybe I touched a little wire
with my foot or something and go back in action
You weren't gonna get like shocked and pass out over the floor
And so you're kind of sitting around, you know
Just relax in and the newspaper was on the table there and I thought I'll see what's happening in the newspaper
And I open it up and in like the second page
There's a big ad on the bottom of the newspaper and it says it was something along the lines of like equipment sale
And immediately my eyes go towards it.
Usually in this part of the country, equipment sales in reference to farming or something
machinery. But I'm looking at it.
And what was essentially my YMCA growing up, it was called Unity Square.
And it was it said Unity.
I've been there for basketball tournaments.
Ah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's a look at some of that there.
Yeah. And basically they were selling off equipment and some of these prices seem too good to be true
Prices like weight plates five dollars a plate seems very like that's not the an automated price
That's not the market going rate dumbbell pairs five dollars a pair also not how those get priced
$5 a pair also not how those get priced
Large dumbbell rack $20 I think was the number on it me was $50 Smith machine 300 that kind of had my attention because
Smith machine for 300 like what what is this about?
I'll take Smith machine for 300 Alex
We played jeopardy over here and then there was some other things like squat bars.
Well, it's like, I'm pretty sure
we're not talking squat bars.
We're probably talking.
No, you are almost bar.
No, that's just like someone
that doesn't know what they're even saying.
And then there's the ones of weights attached to the bar,
like weights attached to bar, like $10 a piece.
And it said, UNI square.
And then I'm like, well, how old is it?
Like, so it's saying this stuff is for sale.
And immediately I'm like, how old is this newspaper?
Well, the newspaper is only from two days ago.
The sale had started on Friday.
I'm reading it on Saturday.
I look, Unity opens at 10. It's nine o'clock. I'm like, I'm going there in an hour.
It's a half mile from my parents' house.
I can get there in about 30 seconds.
I'm going to see what this is about.
So I go there at probably get there at 10 or five.
I go to the front desk. I say, hey, I want to check out the equipment.
The guy goes, yep, down the hall to the back.
I go right in there and I walk in and yeah, sure enough,
there's stacks of 45 pound plates, 35s, 25s,
and the plates are $5 a plate.
Also the fives and tens are there also for $5 a plate.
So the deal gets a little worse than the smaller ones.
And then I'm looking at the other things.
The dumbbell rack was there, which was,
if you've listened to the show for a little while,
I recently acquired a lat pull down machine
and was made by OEI, which was a company
out of Oetana, Minnesota.
The dumbbell rack was also an OEI dumbbell rack,
which I thought was funny.
I'd never seen one of these pieces in my life
and now I'm seeing another one again here. Dumbbell rack was also an OEI Dumbbell rack, which I thought was funny. I'd never seen one of these pieces in my life and now I'm seeing another one again here.
Dumbbell back.
I think that's also a system of a down song
where they're like, oh yeah, oh yeah.
Like they do the letters thing.
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
Yeah, so they got this big Dumbbell rack in there
and then there's the Smith Machine,
all taken apart laying against the wall.
And I'm thinking, oh, this thing looks kind of nice.
And I look on the side and there's a giant
free motion fitness decal.
And I'm like, damn, this is the real deal here.
And I was taking pictures of all this
and I sent it to you and you were on vacation
in the Black Hills with your family,
so you didn't reply right away.
And I'm thinking, well, the main takeaway here
is the Smith machine if Tanner might be interested.
So I go out to my car and I'm just like,
oh, wait a minute here in case Tanner calls.
And then like you started messaging me
and then we were talking on the phone.
You're like, I don't know, for 300 bucks,
you're like, I kind of just gotta get it.
Is basically what you told me.
They're giving me no choice for $300.
Like I don't even know what to do with it, but.
And I was saying, you know, it's not put together.
It says everything is in working condition.
I'm gonna take their word for it.
I don't think they would lie.
And condition wise, I mean, the paint,
it's not like all the paint is missing
and the thing's destroyed.
Like everything looks like it's in great shape.
And so I didn't tell you this part of the story.
This gets really funny.
So I'm talking to you and then you're also like,
dude, those weight plates are such a good deal.
You should just buy those. Like even if you don't want any of them
You're just gonna make a lot of money selling them all right and there was like 10 45 10 35 10 25
So like just get whatever you can
So I go back in but I talked to the guy and I go
All right. I'm ready to get the equipment and he goes, okay, well, here's a bid sheet here.
Put your name down.
It's Sunday today.
On Monday, we'll review the bids and you can,
we'll let you know if you can pick it up
by the end of the week.
And I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa.
That's like, you guys have a price.
Like you're asking for a price.
Why do we need to do a bid system here?
I'll just pay full price.
I don't need to place a bid.
Right, right.
He's like, well, yeah, I get what you're saying.
That's kind of not the way it was explained to me.
And I'm like, cause I'm not in town.
If I can't get these things, like now,
I'm just not gonna do it.
But I'm like, if I can do it now,
I will buy everything I can for weight plates
and I will buy the Smith machine.
Right.
He's like, well, yeah, that does seem like a smart idea.
He goes, let me call my bosses.
So he calls one and he goes, all right, so and so said, you're good to go, but I have
to talk to my other boss now.
A lot of decision makers in this thing here got off the phone with you.
And I was just waiting for him to either not get ahold of them or have an issue.
But he goes, all right, they said you're good to go.
And so I went back in the room.
I thought I would get all those plates.
I didn't realize some people had already said like,
I want two 45s, two 25s.
So some people had already spoken for the items.
They just had picked up.
How did you know that though?
Like, where did you find that?
I didn't realize there was a paper taped
on like the corner of the wall.
I didn't realize that that paper correlated to those weights.
So I was only able to get three 45s,
but then I got four 35s, four 25s.
So that's eight, 11 weight plates for $55.
Pretty good deal as far as that goes.
And then we got the Smith Machine
and my dad had a big trailer that we had to, you know,
it's huge.
And he had like a metal dump trailer
that we went to go get and put this thing in
and took old flying Ryan with me and my dad.
And I thought, oh, we'll just go in and pick this thing up. And we tried to budget. It is so insanely heavy.
Like my dad was like tapped out right away. He's like, well, there's no way we're moving.
I'm not messing with this. Yeah. And so then we started digging around the facility and
we found some little carts that we could moving carts that we could lift up one end, set it
on the other. Right. Right. And then just getting into the trailer was a process too. That thing is
yeah, you know why commercial grade equipment costs a lot because it is hefty but
It is are I think you did you text me or no you texted me and you're like, yeah
It is heavy
I said if you're gonna move this thing down some stairs make sure you got like eight like eight guys. Because the other problem is, it's as wide as a rack.
So it's like 50, what, 54, 55 inches high.
So to lift it, because you can't turn it sideways,
it's too wide.
So to lift it, it's already like above your shoulder
by an inch.
So you're kind of doing this weird front rack overhead press
movement to get it off the ground, which isn't a very strong way to move things.
Right.
And yeah, it was, it's hefty.
And if you're just going straight through a doorway,
it'd be like, okay, whatever.
But going down some stairs,
that it might be a little bit of a challenge for you there.
So make sure you get some help around.
I suppose you didn't have to go to the gym
that day then though.
That was, yeah, actually I didn't have to.
I was planning on it that day
and I was able to take the day off because I put a,
put a Smith machine on a cart and pushed it.
But we did though, but dad goes, I don't know.
Cause the idea was, Oh, Tanner will drive to town, grab it the next time he'll
grab this thing and he can take it.
And my dad, the first thing he goes, there's no way in hell me and Tanner are
moving this thing.
He goes, he might as well just, we might as well as leave it on the trailer and he can just take the
whole trailer with him so as of right now that's the plan is probably after crew falls it sounds
like maybe you're gonna go get it just hook up to the trailer and drive it straight to Aberdeen
right yeah that is the plan actually at crew falls there's a lot of equipment swapping stuff going on
lot of equipment swapping stuff going on. I have a couple
Cerberus sandbags to bring that Jake's gonna pick up for the
lift hard, live easy, classic strong man showdown. He needed some new sandbags and he's gonna fill those and get those ready
in for the for the summer. Like, did you wonder those were they
in the gym or what was
no, they're new ones. Okay, they're new ones. And they
showed up today. So I'm bringing those down to give to him.
Their Jake sold the old Larry half rack to Ben Bile.
Oh, he did?
Oh, good.
Okay, so it just stayed in the family then.
Yes, I was really happy that staying in the
Mastinomics family.
I was too.
That is a piece of Mastinomics history that back.
That is a piece of Mastinomics.
So they'll be swapping that. Big Bryce has my 100 pound double sided York plates. Oh, I forgot.
And I'll be able to pick up from him at Sioux falls. Um, I'm going to pro should be able to pick
up that Smith machine on my way home and bring that. And I thought there was actually one other
thing even, but it's funny
We get together get together with like 40 crew. There's like changing all this exchanging
It's like a
Use it. Oh, it's like oh good. It's a couple times a year where we get together
We can all bring the little clean market
Well, that is the way it goes too because when you have a trusted source when on the used market you're like
Oh, you live by Brookings. Can you uh, I'll pay for it. Can you go pick this up?
Just like that Smith machine I would have never like even though I'm like, yeah, that's a great deal
This mill bank is not that far away. It's like no
I'm not driving there to check that out and possibly not get it, you know
Right and we talked about that with like Smith machines,
like they pop up, they're not impossible to find,
but you know, unless you really want one,
you're kind of driving to like Minneapolis or Rochester
or somewhere that's like five, six hours away.
Like you also really want to drive six hours
for a Smith machine that also might be listed for sale
for like 1500 to $2,000. It's just not that
attractive of a deal. And when this one is just in your lap
sitting ready to go and it's 300 bucks, it's just hard to say no
to the and I've got someone there that's like, Yep, this it
is a Smith machine. It is not a piece of shit.
I can actually verify that this seems to be the real deal.
Right. And that Smith machine, I think you looked it up first,
new the new vert, I mean And that Smith machine, I think you looked at that first new the new
vert. I mean, the new version, which is essentially the same as the old version is $6,000 type
it in free motion Smith machines, $6,000. And then the decal is different. The decal
is different. Other than that, it looks exactly the same. Yeah, I do have to been doing a
lot of brainstorming and talking with other members at the gym of the positioning of this Smith machine.
Oh, have people getting involved in the feedback here?
Yeah, honestly, there's at least one, two,
there's four different options,
or five different options I've got potentially
of exactly how it goes.
Well, we talked about a couple of them.
What do you feel like is the front runner right now?
Or is that not even clearly decided?
That's not clearly decided.
I think one of my favorite, one of my favorite options is widening out the two
red elite FTS benches, moving them farther out and putting the ghost combo
rack in between them.
I like that.
And I like that idea a lot because that just feels like bench row.
It's all there.
And then the Smith, like I like that one, but also I I don't go to that gym
So and then I would put the Smith machine in the center in which I what I really like about that is the Smith machine
Has plate storage on it then so then it also is the solution of where the plates go for that area. Yep
So I really like that but there is a few people brought this up, which I do not disagree with
They say my Smith machine fits in more,
it fits in just not literally its footprint,
but the theory of mentally fits in more
on the other side of the gym.
I know.
And I'm like, correct, I do not disagree with that.
So what I could do, for example,
still move those benches to that three row
situation, have that extra space, and then say move over
the reverse hyper and the glute ham raise and the back
extension over there.
Not the Rhino?
The Rhino would be an option too.
It could be the Rhino.
So move over
Some of that equipment machine pieces. Yeah and make room for the Smith machine on the other side
This oh yeah This other one which would absolutely like first of all all the way
Mastinomics Jim works all of this any of these options is gonna piss someone off
Yeah, I guarantee like it if not piss many people off
because they're just gonna walk in and be like,
mmm, it changed.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, great.
When I'm using the back extension,
now I can't set my stuff on the reverse hyper.
Yes.
My day is ruined.
Yeah.
Yes, and I'm joking about a little bit,
but at the same time, a lot of the people will be like,
why is this different? Um, and this one would totally blow people's mind to the
point where I, like someone would straight up quit, I think. But my other idea, and I,
I actually have no problem with this is this actually, I could dovetail this with another
story I have for this episode, but
when you walk in to the dumbbell area, you walk in through the cable crossover area and
it's wide open.
In my mind, the more I think about it, it doesn't have to be wide open there.
There could be equipment along, because there's like a, I measured it out, there's almost
like an 18 foot opening there
like especially if you go from like the walk-in door all the way to the
Yeah, it's basically a 20 by 20 square almost right?
I'm like it doesn't need we don't need we used to have a 20 foot right there, right, right
So I'm I'm kind of feeling like it could go
Like essentially in front of the cable crossover.
I get what you're saying that out of all the ideas
in my head is my least favorite one out of all.
Right, and I know that that one would,
that's not my front runner,
but I almost want to do it
because I know people would be like,
that's not how I want it.
And the other one.
With just the other two though,
how much room there is still in the rest of the gym.
While I agree that yes, there's a lot of room there.
It seems weird that there's that much room everywhere else in the gym.
And you put a Smith machine like the second you walk in, you're like, boom, Smith machine.
You're like, well, what's this gym about?
Like, that's where I had the heads.
Ultimately not going to go there.
My other theory is I could because you know how there's the red
hammer strength style old snap fit fitness chest press where that's at.
I could also just have I could take like
The space I'm talking in the in front of that cable crossover
I could also bring over like the blue hammer strength ISO row
I could put two pieces of equipment there and then you just like when you walk through there
You just have to walk through the equipment rather than a 15 foot opening. Yeah, you just walk
through the gaps in equipment. I'm also not going to do that.
But my theory there is I could bring that those two pieces of
equipment over. And then there'd be an opening on the other edge
of the dumbbell area, basically where the hip sled and ISO row
are now put the Smith machine right there.
I get what you're saying and that would totally work
I liked your first two ideas the most though the the bench lay the one I'm still most leaning towards is the first one where?
the Smith machine goes
where the row where the
Ghost combo rack is right now
because every nuts
This actually has no bearing and should not influence it anyway
But every gym I've ever been to that has a Smith machine
It's sort of in line with the power racks like it's always in the power section kind of well
I honestly the biggest reason I like it is the plate situation
Honestly that I'm like that actually because my problem with putting those three benches in a row is it gets tight with those on
Ground plate racks. Yeah with the way like if I have the Smith machine there I can just straight up get rid of one of those
Because the plates are all loaded on the Smith machine and that's just as close as it ever was
So I think that that's what I'm leaning towards but it will it will dress it will ruin some people's lives
And then like a year from now people be like, oh man, can you imagine not having this thing here? Well, that's the
they'll be the first people to use it. But that's also the
other thing that we're in a tricky spot now, because when
Mastinomics Gym was new, like in its first three and four years,
we were moving stuff all the time. Oh, like you look at
different pictures and videos, you're like, Oh, that was there.
I forgot that was ever there. We're just moving on like a
monthly basis because it was always like a new thing.
And we're like, oh god, how do we make this work?
And we'd figure it out.
But now it's been pretty static for like three or four years,
for the most part.
You know, it's mostly just replacing of things
in an upgrade situation.
So it's like we get rid of this and we put that in its place.
Yep.
But this would be a little different.
But that's OK. But this would be a little different. But that's OK.
So you did have a pretty sweet marketplace score there, though.
That is, dude, I will say, you know,
I don't think of myself as like a guy that's like really
keeping a hawkish eye on marketplace.
But between, actually, this wasn't a marketplace score.
This was a newspaper score. This was the old-fashioned way a newspaper find
but the pioneers did it looking at the like the old like her grandparents did
it but I would say between finding this score with the five dollar plates the
Smith machine and also the $350 lap pulldown I got a couple months ago I
feel like I've really taken advantage of the used market recently. Yeah
See this benefits the user all kind to me
I should say had you not had a home gym
You maybe wouldn't have even been cared to look at that and then it's like I wouldn't know because it's just kind of funny
That it's in there, but I went to waste of my time. It wouldn't have interested me as much
Big Colton brought up an excellent point. It's good thing
You don't have all stall mat floors to make movie equipment
Could you imagine actually if it was all rubber floor having to move all of that stuff around? Yeah, that would suck
Yeah, be pain that would suck
But Gary has even that though just make sure you put the horse stall mats down under the Smith machine before you put it through
You do need them there. Yes
Supporting our supporting members. This is a relatively new segment of the podcast.
I'm kind of light on supporting our supporting members.
I actually started a new thread in our Discord
of competitions and supporting our supporting members.
Just making sure I didn't miss anything.
No, just one or two things this week.
This is something that all of our supporting members could have the option of getting mentioned if they're doing something notable like
competing or what life events that sort of thing. Just one of the things we do to try to get give back you can
become a supporting member too by heading over to Mastinomics.com slash join. That's where you see all of our different membership options.
Check it out. This week Big Big Jordan one strong like caveman
strongman invite. He had PRS with a 771 pound 18 inch deadlift
a 200 pound dumbbell and a 350 pound stone load. That's
strong. Yeah, big Jordan doing very strong stuff across the
board there. Oh, there goes my light again
What the deal with that is often besties rodents chewing on the wire down there? Yeah, they don't make them like they used to I know that
And then also I would say
Unpaid and underrated this week's guest big Toby Toby one Kenobi
Great. Listen, I checked it out today and big Toby will be in crew falls with us
So great episode check it out. He did is awesome to learn more about him
Tell you maybe you want to read an ad and I'm gonna see if I can monkey around with my do some electrical work
This episode is also brought to you by Texas power bars
episode is also brought to you by Texas Power Bars.
Tanner and I have been lifting for a few years. And one thing that's always been consistent is we've always had a
Texas Power Bar in our hands.
We started with the original Texas Power Bar for many, many years.
Eventually we added the Texas Deadlift Bar to the lineup, a Texas
Squat Bar to the lineup.
And recently we've even added a 29 millimeter Texas power bar
And I think Tanner's got a couple of Texas cross bars in his lineup as well, too
And if you're asking why it's because these bars are classic. They're legendary and bang for your buck
They just might be the best bar out there
I've been rocking the 29 millimeter Texas power bar in my home gym for close to nine months now
and I absolutely love it as much as the day I got it and
To be totally honest in a home gym setting Tanner. You're not you're not aware of this but in a home gym setting
I think my 29 millimeter power bar might be just as good as the day. I got it. It doesn't get that that beat up
Doesn't get those nicks and shit.
It doesn't take that pounding that it does in more of a commercial
setting. So it's looking as good as the day.
I got it.
If you had an over to Texas Power Bars right now or Texas Power
Bars dot com right now, you can take advantage of their blend
bar sale and also depending on when you're hearing this that
the Black Friday sale might maybe still be going on if you're lucky
so
Either way head over there check it out by a bar. Thank you, Texas Power Bars
Also check out the strength
Oh, I'm gonna play a little something for you here because we're gonna talk more about the strength Co in a little bit here
But first of all, let's hear this on the strength Co
This is the strength company. We've set out to build a better barbell plate on
American soil we ended up here at Wisconsin's legendary
Wapaka foundry with over 60 years of iron working experience the foundry had the knowledge
technology and processes to build our weights to our exact specifications. The Strength Company plates are
slim but rugged, smooth but easy to grip, and electro-coated for
durability and to look great in your gym. This is the next
generation of American Iron, only available from the Strength
Company.
American Eye only available from the strength company
The strength go check them out we'll talk more about some of their products here coming up
Because I think Tommy unless I'm wrong and missing something is it time for our title topic
Now it is. Whenever disturbed chimes in, you know that means it's time for our title topic.
And what's the title?
How would you say the title of this?
We're going to say it's kind of a working title.
It's going to evolve as time goes on.
But right now we're going to say it's a living, breathing creature. Best gift ideas for
every budget for the lifter or home gym owner in your life.
It's a very, very snappy title.
Yeah, we like to keep titles really concise. So and we're
gonna go about this. Here's our rough rough plan. We've got
four ish
tears. I think is that what we settled on the four years we
have four tiers that we made up. We have divided the gifts by
under $50 under $100 under 500 and unlimited.
Yeah. And I cheated actually on some of them when we say under
like I did to ballpark. I did. Yeah. Yeah, I'm like yeah, it's about a hundred dollars, right? Like that's okay and
Any other parameters here? We're just I mean now budget is the parameter and just like what what we think could be a cool
Gift idea. Yeah, like some of these things are for people with home gyms
Some of these are just for people that like to work out some of these are just people that like cool shit
But most of them have some relation to lifting correct all right should we start
with the under 50 we start at the bottom and our worker work our way up let's do
it all right do you want to hit us with your first 50 ish dollar gift idea my
first affordable budget gift idea a a barbell rescue brush.
If you listen to this, there's a good chance you have a home gym.
If you have a home gym, there's a good chance you have barbells.
Son of a bitch, that was one of my answers.
And the barbell rescue brush, I added one of these to my gym.
I think this is a great addition to anyone's gym.
Keep your items clean.
I think they're $50, $50.
$49.99 and you can use code on paid to even save a little bit
off of that. Well, okay, we got room to spare here. And they also
have I mean, these things basically last forever. Let's be
real. If you buy one, they've built so well, that might be the
only one you ever need. It's there. They're the real deal.
They got different colors. And also they're great people. So I
recommend the barbell rescue brush.
They're great people. If you can the Barbell Rescue Brush. They're great people if you can sand people from Alaska.
I mean, yeah, that is the caveat there.
Like you gotta, there's that disclaimer.
If you can get over that part, they're great.
Okay.
I have a complete side tangent.
We've barely started here.
And when I said Alaska, it completely reminded me of this.
I want to know.
I had a discussion with this with my wife, her sister,
her sister's husband.
And then and we all came to this really odd conclusion.
And I want to know if you experienced this at all or if I think you're probably
just old enough to that you're familiar with.
I did a rod. Correct. All Verne Halter. Oh, yeah, okay. Yes, verne halter
Yep in your mind was verne halter the greatest I did a rod competitor known to man
Like why was vert I have a few points verne halter was so aggressively shoved down all of our throats as kids here that
I did a rod was the I did aod and Verne Holter were like the
god of athletic performance
And is he from South Dakota though? I?
Think he was originally from South Dakota
And he was sponsored by like what no one later became Wells Fargo
Yeah, no, because my dad worked for norwest bank. So I also met him again through a thing at my dad's work.
Like, I swear to God,
Vern Halter came to our school like every other month,
what I was like in kindergarten through seventh grade.
Back, nowadays people make the podcast circuit,
he was making the school Lyceum circuit.
Like every year we had him put on a presentation, And every year I was like, this is the coolest
thing ever. I'm just like,
Verne Halter's here again. Why?
Okay, I have, I have a, I don't want to cut you out. I have a
great Verne Halter story. I don't know.
I'm not sure if I've ever told this on the podcast. I probably
have but okay, so one one year. Brookings, South Dakota, home of
South Dakota State University SDSU.
Their homecoming is Hobo days.
And you know, I ain't missing that party weekend.
I had a bunch of buddies that would go there.
A few of them live pretty close to campus.
They had a big party house and we'd always have a great time.
And one of the Hobo days, of course you get up, you go to the parade, which means you
start drinking at like 8 AM.
You drink a lot, you go back to
the house. And if it's nice enough, you just stand out in
the yard and drink a lot. And the football game went on. This
was before SDSU had finished their new stadium. So like
games would sell out and you couldn't get in. Right. And we
weren't that concerned about it. We had drinking to do anyways.
So we stayed with drinking was yeah, dude, we had drinking to
do the game gets over. And when the game is over, it's so close to campus, people
just are out on the streets, you know. And for whatever reason, some older
people had their cars parked in front of the house and they saw us all drinking
and having a good time. And they're like, Hey, how's it going guys? And they
started talking with us like, come have a beer. So these other people were
talking with us and they were probably talking to us
for like 15, 20 minutes.
And one of us was like, dude, this guy looks so much like Vern Halter.
Like none of us have seen him since we were in fifth grade and we're all wearing
a parka covered in sled dogs.
That's weird.
We kept saying it.
We're like, dude, that's not one of those sleds.
Yeah.
We're like, we're doing the thing. Like he's talking to like, no, that's him. Like, no, it's not him. Like, and finally one of the We're like, dude, that's not Verne Halter. He was on one of those sleds. Yeah, we're like, we're doing the thing.
Like he's talking to me like, no, that's him.
We're like, no, it's not him.
Like, and finally one of the guys is like, okay, man,
this might be really weird, but are you Verne Halter?
And he goes, yes, I am Verne Halter.
Oh man.
Like we saw so many presentations with you in school
and then we started talking about Iditarod's
and the dogs and all that.
So.
So this all adds to my point, which you saying all of this
confirms my point even to just another degree. So I was from a little, okay, we're all from,
you, I, my wife are all from the same,
we're within hundreds of miles of each other,
in general, where we grew up, kind of a long ways away
in some parts of the world. In South Dakota, you'd say it's pretty close. We're all on the same side of each other. You know, in general, where we grew up, kind of a long ways away in some parts of the world.
In South Dakota, you'd say it's pretty close.
We're all on the same side of the state.
My brother-in-law wasn't even really
on the same side of the state.
He was in a different part of it altogether.
Yeah, I think he was West River at the time.
But he had the same experience.
And we're all like, man, Vern Halter
was like Michael Jordan when we were like.
And I'm like, I don't know if that was just
a South Dakota thing, but I'm like,
who is behind shoving Vern, and like,
when in the last 15 years have you heard about the Iditarod?
Actually zero times, I've, exactly.
Yeah, yeah, it must've, do they still do it?
Like once you were beyond grade school in South Dakota,
like the Iditarod was like this really important thing
because it was like we had been conditioned
with the Verne Halter stuff, and then I'm like,
oh yeah, the Iditarod.
Maybe, yeah, that's, I don't know,
did the, yeah, maybe, I'm just so confused, yeah.
I've never thought of this,
but it has disappeared from my,
from my curve to this.
And here's my other thing.
So would you almost guess without looking
or without specifically remembering that Verne Halter
may be one that I did around like 10 years in a row?
Well, I would think that,
but I believe after that last time in Brookings,
I did some research on him,
and I don't think he ever placed it that high, did he?
No, well, he did take third in 1999.
Okay.
But I'm like, oh.
I mean, I'm not-
Thought he was like the Lance Armstrong of dog mushing.
Right, I'm not knocking him, but I'm like,
oh, he never won?
Yeah, he didn't win once?
He didn't bring home the gold for us one time.
Well, I'm like
Why supported you all those years?
I'm like not that there's anything wrong with this, but I'm like I just assumed someone that would be like
Touring talking about the Iditarod for a decade like one at once
So I guess the thought that counts. Is that in any way surprising to you though?
That like, it's like, oh, you didn't,
you weren't like the best at it?
Like how, like I said, it would have been surprising
if I hadn't looked it up.
Yeah, I would have thought he was the Lance Armstrong
of the Iditarod.
Right, and you couldn't name any other person
that's ever named Iditarod.
No, God, no, no.
I don't know if there's three other people that do it or a hundred other people
So none of us know anyone else that has ever done it
But we all know this one guy that got third place one didn't ball toe do the Iditarod once
The dog
The only person I can name is a dog that they
My other thought and I've never thought about it before,
is I'm wondering, is the Iditarod cruel to dogs?
Like are they like-
That's what I was wondering,
did it go the way of like, you know, circus acts?
Or like, yeah, we don't write that anymore with with these creatures I
don't know or do they love it because they just run that's I'm like they just
bred for that and like that's just like they're they that's what I wonder it do
they love it and I'm not really sure yeah maybe it's not at all whatsoever but
man I'm just wondering if that was part of it disappearing a little bit it could
be could possibly be I just thought that that was crazy that I divert that I'm like, what, like we
got no I can't remember how it came up. And then we were kind
of like all unanimously like, yeah, vernon halter, like we
all really like vernon halter a lot. I'm trying so hard to find
this picture. But you know, as you get older, in this age we
live in your friends get rid of social media accounts, which means swaths of pictures just disappear right? I think that's what happened to this photo
It's really upsetting to me that I don't have this
Yeah, I I don't think I got it anymore hold is verne halter 75
He lives in Alaska
Right with all that's all that was my side to my little tangent there was verne halter
Well, we've made it really far into this game at this rate. It's gonna take seven hours
I also had the barbell rescue brush on my list, so I'll come up with the new one here
I'm gonna say and we do that there is no limit to the number of items we can list in any category
So right right right right right? I'm gonna go the DrinkSpotter XL for massonomics.com.
44.99.
I said the DrinkSpotter XL.
You could go DrinkSpotter Lite.
I'm gonna say DrinkSpotter XL though
would make my list at 44.99.
That's a very good choice.
Along those same lines,
I just kind of wrote massonomics in general because for 50 bucks you can get
Almost everything in our store not like all of them at once
But if you have a $50 bill, you can probably pick out almost any single item from our website. So true
Specific item I said
Massonomics was our mesh shorts, which we've got like three or four styles of right now at 39.99
Yes, that's also a steal
Like they're they're awesome. Everyone loves them
Mm-hmm
So if you're gonna buy a present and also like a lot of people have a lot of shirts
But I find like a lot of people don't have like an excess pair
No, they got enough shorts any more shorts, Right, so if you got someone a gift of really nice
gym mesh shorts from massanomics.com at 40 bucks,
that's a great idea.
That's straight up a good idea.
I gave people that idea this very weekend
that were like, hey, I usually get something
as a gift from massanomics.com.
What would you say?
I'm like, get the shorts.
Get the shorts.
You almost can't go wrong with the shorts.
You gotta do it.
Or the DrinkSpot or XL, especially for like a gift,
because shirts are a little trickier
because people like have certain preferences and tastes.
But like the shorts or the DrinkSpot,
I think as a gift, they make a lot of sense too.
All right, next on the list here.
Yeah.
I have some G&E grippers.
Oh, nice.
Yeah, I believe they're right around $25 a piece.
So for that price, you could get basically two of them.
But at under 50 bucks, it's one of those things
that you can just kind of add one,
treat yourself to one every few months.
And pretty soon you got the whole,
I mean, you get the whole collection
for I think like $120 but really affordable
just a fun thing to play with in your training. Highly recommend
the grip genie grippers.
That's also like one you might not even have you don't even
necessarily have to have a home gym it's kind of equipment for
anyone I mean you could just right I mean just like to just
strength stuff in general you just have those.
Here's another one even if you don't have a home gym
that I think fits in well is BuildFast Formula 8020 Protein.
I want to put the protein because every lifter
would occasionally use protein powder,
even if, you know, no matter what,
supplements can be different,
different people take different stuff,
but everyone wants a good protein powder, basically.
Anyone that lifts whatsoever will use that at some point in time
So 80 20 protein 47 99 you can actually save with discount code
Mastinomics though it'll be even cheaper than take 15% off and the key you said there is good protein because right you can buy like the
Cheapest shit most basic, but it is shit like it's I actually when I ran out of build fast I
Just pulled something I had sitting in my cabinet that was probably older than it should have been anyways,
but it was like not edible compared to the BuildFast stuff.
It was just a totally different grade of product.
So BuildFast really does put out a high quality product.
Next on the list, I have bands. Bands are one of those
things where for 50 bucks, you can't get every band, but you
can get a you can get several bands for $50. And depending on
who you want to buy them from and what sales going on, the
prices can vary quite a bit, but $50 can absolutely get your band
collection started.
Yeah, that's a good one. I had a obsidian ammonia.
You buy some in a bottle of ammonia.
I think most lifters would,
even if they don't haven't used ammonia much in the past,
I think getting it as a gift, they'd be like,
oh, this is cool.
Like I wasn't gonna buy myself this,
but since you got me as a gift, now I'm excited to try it.
I think that's kind of the strategy on that gift.
And the whole family likes to try it out.
Oh, it's awesome. It's it's perfect thing for the holidays. It's so much fun passing it around and getting all like
you're getting parents and grandparents and uncles and
aunts and everyone making them all trying it out the reaction.
It's it's priceless. And right now Obsidian has a Bud Light
themed Obsidian ammonia product for $39.99. So that'd be a
perfect option.
I also wrote down in the idea of small little things, fat grips,
you know, it's one of those things not very expensive,
doesn't really take up much for room, you don't have to have a
home gym, you can throw that in your gym bag, and it just gives
you a different training stimulus, mixes things up a
little bit when you're lifting I
Have I only have one left on my list for this category I have
from belt fed strength
You can buy lifting belts, of course, but one of my favorite products from belt fed strength is their actual
Pant dress belt it's's called their English Bridal.
It's the belt I wear every single day.
Every time I'm wearing jeans,
every time I'm wearing pants,
I'm wearing my belt fed strength English Bridal belt.
It's $60.
I think they come in two or three colors.
I have one of the browns,
and it's got just the subtle embossed belt fed logo
right at the end of it.
And it's really nice.
I wear it all the time.
It's like genuine, really nice leather at $60.
Like, especially if you've never had like a really nice belt.
Okay, yeah, I got it.
This is a cool, really nice, well-made belt.
You know, it's like a lot nicer than the one
that you're going from, if JCPenney's was still a thing
that you're going in and getting pennies was still a thing that you're like That's like getting plastic right laminated plastic
So that that's what color do you have?
What color all nut I have walnut that and I don't have black. Yeah, well, that's the way to go
Cool. I like that. I like that. That's a good one
Okay, can I just do a couple of quick lightning round ones
here?
I also wrote down, this kind of piggybacks off
the Masanomics thing, but just gym decor in general,
usually for $50.
Flags, banners from most companies,
you can get something for 50 bucks.
And if you're talking about a home gym,
that's probably the easiest way to transform your space
is to get some different items on the wall,
gives you some color, gives you some style.
I would highly recommend that.
And then also depending on what brand,
wrist wraps are something that almost anyone that lifts
would take advantage of and for 50 bucks,
you can get most, I don't know,
SPD's probably the most expensive. what are their wrist wraps cost?
Probably $300.
300. It's a different it's a new color.
I think even there's I'm looking even there's look like they're
$47 and 50 cents. So you should
know is that where you would send someone though?
No, not necessarily. I was just trying to think of like the most
extreme. I in my mind, I think of them as being the most most expensive and I didn't know where the cutoff was on wrist wraps
But they fit well into the category actually. Yeah, they do actually yeah all there's it looks like 47 bucks the most they do
Yeah, so pretty much any company you can think of for 50 bucks. You can get a pair of wrist wraps from them
All right
Anything else in the 50 ish category?
That's all I got budget friendly. That's a lot of options there though if you're looking for a budget and those are all I
Don't know who if you got those any of those items for someone that they'd be like you got me this
Like unless they already had it, but those are all good high quality products there
If you were thinking about getting someone a gift and in that price range
I bet we just gave you a good idea if you didn't have one.
Like at least there's something in there you're like,
you know what, that is a great idea.
I hadn't considered that.
All right, so up to the hundredish dollar price range.
Break out the Benjamin's baby.
It's all about the Benjamin's baby.
We're going shopping.
Yeah, a hundred bucks.
Do you wanna kick this one off?
Yeah, I'm gonna go with first one. I'm going to say knee sleeves in
the hundred ish dollar range. And brand sure there's a ton of
them. So pick your poison. I don't know the pioneer ones if
you want to get someone if they don't have strangulators yet.
I don't know if that should be your introduction to knee
sleeves. If it's an experienced knee
sleeves user and they don't have anything crazy, get them this
because we're like, wow, that's crazy. I could not imagine if
the first pair of knee sleeves I got was these pioneer ones.
Like, yeah, I'm not wearing knee sleeves. Yeah, like, no, no,
knee sleeves are overrated. And then I find out that's actually
not how they all feel like five years later. Yeah, I do. Yeah,
knee sleeves are a great one for 100 bucks. If you if you lift regularly. Solid edition. Yeah,
and there's a bunch of different brands. Of course, you know, SPD
stoic. I don't even know probably so many. Everyone makes
them pretty much it seems like I'm going to do kind of a well,
okay. All right.
I'm going to actually, I'm going to wait on that one.
Uh, a hundred bucks.
Maybe the most influential thing you can do for your training.
No, this is not fit in the, this, I back that up.
This is not fit in there.
Scratch it.
Okay.
Scratch it.
I got to go to a different category.
Um, um, here's one hundred bucks.
You want to dial everything in,
think about your nutrition a little more.
Buy yourself a year of the MacroFactor app.
I think for a year, if you buy a year up front,
I think it's like $70,
which is well under your $100 mark.
If you're lifting and taking those,
your fitness and your performance seriously,
a little nutrition tracker,
and what I think might be maybe the best nutrition tracker.
Actually, I believe they just won a Google Play award
for like best health app or something.
So they're even getting accolades from major companies on,
or I mean, they're getting eyeballs on them.
They're doing something right over there.
So I've been using them for about six months.
I absolutely love the app.
I still use it every day.
And if you use code massonomics,
you can even add to your, you can get a free trial.
You can add to your free trial with code massonomics.
So that kind of is sort of almost an affiliate there,
but we're recommending it
because we really do believe in the app.
Yes. And because we get paid.
More Benjamin's.
That's my favorite part is when we get paid.
Okay. My next one, Tommy alluded it to it earlier and I said, whoa
Hold hold on. I want to talk about this one later. I'm going with the Ursus
generation to barefoot shoe brand new
available only on pre-order right now for a hundred and twenty five dollars and
Also breaking news. I ordered myself a pair today. Did you write off? I'm at yep. I'm like I love those
I think those look frickin sweet. I'm getting
Daddy got himself a little Christmas presents in the hundred dollar. How do you win shopping? Huh? Yeah?
I'm like yep. I want them. I got to have those
I want to talk about them on the podcast and let people know my
My actual opinion on them and it just looks like an Ursus with just a little bit more of a soul on it
Yeah, yep
Which is a good look they they do and I got the low top. I
Would have never bought low top shoes before until I have
These the right Ursus regular Ursus low top that and I'm like, nope
I wear these all the time now that looks looks to me like what I wear
That's what looks normal to me now. So I'm kind of on the lower top bandwagon for the time being
Yeah, I'm really curious. I'm really curious to hear your review on these
I don't the only thing holding me back is I don't want another all all black pair.
That's the only thing holding me up.
All of mine from them besides the Mastinomics one
are all black, but I'm also like, yeah,
I kind of like those because I get away with wearing them
with the most amount of stuff.
Yes, you absolutely can.
I'm really curious to see what they do
with the other colorways here because
that was a consideration of mine though,
that I'm like, oh, all black again, but I'm like,
it's also kind of what I like. So
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Yep. I'm I'm I'm and
You can use discount code massonomics to save you is it 10% off? Yeah, is it discount code massonomics? Yeah
I don't knock 12 bucks off. So now you're sitting at like 112, right?
Which is for a pair are really a high quality pair of shoes is a good deal can't afford not to at that point.
Correct. I also had barefoot shoes, so I'm glad you brought
that one up. The next one I have on the list. This is kind of a
blanket category. I'm just going to say rack and cable
attachments for 100 bucks. You can get most attachments that
exist. You know whether it's there's a lot of Yeah, there's a
lot of so I mean, yes, there's a lot of.
So, I mean, yes, there are some things that you can't, but for the most part, any of your
basic things that, for sure the basic things that you would ever need, like a tricep or
like a push down rope or a lat pull down bar or like a V grip handle or I don't know, some
of the Meg grip knockoffs that you might see on Amazon
actually grip genie has a bunch of stuff that you can use to a lot of those items you can get for
actually a lot of them are under $50 even but if you're talking a hundred bucks, there's a ton of
cable machine and rack attachments that you can get and
Just adds another level to your training
I've got a cool one for everyone here. Talked about the strength earlier.
The strength, 12 inch cast iron pan now also available for preorder at one hundred
and twenty nine dollars, the 12 inch cast iron pan that has the strength
Co. logo on the bottom of it.
Pretty excited about that. That is I think it just went for sale today. I think so. Yeah, that's uh,
Have you ever used cast iron for cooking? I?
Don't cook very much if I'm being straight-up honest about that, but have you ever used a cast iron by way in your life?
Um, yes, we do we have one that's all the time, you know that but it's not my
What it's not what my daily driver but we do use it quite a bit but then again I barely cook
whatsoever I make my breakfast every morning and then rarely do I also cook
other things besides that yeah I've actually never used a cast iron pan in
my life and I don't like that something my my parents didn't do so
It's a foreign concept to me of I think the trick is that you have to make sure to put it in the dishwasher
Eat after each use. Yeah, isn't it supposed to if you're not using it have so you let it on it
So yeah, you let it so clean. Yeah, that's that's the trick to it. I think honestly, uh-huh. It does look really cool, though
I love the bottom, youhuh. It does look really cool though. I love the bottom You know the embossed little bottom that looks really cool
That would also be something that someone you know if they're into lifting and they're into like the string code
That would be a pretty sweet gift. Yeah
Maybe if they're into cooking too, they might like it even
Lifting and drinking and cooking is all they know
Next on the list I put some sandbags. A lot of companies
make sandbags now, variety of sizes, 100 bucks should get you
a pretty good selection to pick from. Depending on the size you
get, it might be a little more but 100 bucks, some sand is
gonna put you right in that ballpark.
Does it matter? I mean, as far as a gift goes, could it be a pea gravel bag?
Yeah, I don't think I stuttered.
I did say sand several times.
So just Google pea gravel bag, see how far that gets you.
I don't know what you're gonna get.
I don't wanna know.
I didn't have anything else in that category.
I got a couple other little ones.
Yep.
I mean, technically for 100 bucks, you can probably get a lifting belt from several companies. It just depends on what level of customization and
closure style buckle you want to go with. But I do know, um, a lot of
companies offer some stock belts and usually a hundred bucks gets you right in the ballpark there
also
the
Barbell anchor from Darko if you're a home gym guy hundred bucks
Independent creator over there making some cool stuff. I have one in my gym. You got color options. It's super high quality
And it just looks cool. So that's a an organized gym is a happy gym. That's a good choice
That's a good one
Anything else in that category that's
About it. That's the nuts and I had I wrote down some collars
You can get a lot of collars for a hundred bucks, but yeah
That's not super exciting. Do you think we should kick off the live listeners?
Oh, these last two categories before we get to the big money?
Yeah, so that way they'll be in suspense until next week. I like your style. What else I was going shopping tomorrow
What am I gonna get? I was going shopping. I had thousands of dollars to spend now
I don't know what to spend it on it kicked me out too soon
While Tommy's getting the boot, I think our next category, our
rough parameter on this one was under 500 or maybe a max of 500
ish, I think is our goal on this one. Yep. And I've got a few for
that. I'll kick it off first. And I'll say, I'm gonna say,
well, you could go a thousand different barbells
But it just if I'm really thinking specifics of a gift if someone has a home gym, they've got a power bar
That's probably the first thing if they don't maybe lean towards power bar
Yeah
I would say you don't get it the first one should be a power bar if you write you don't have there to have that
Then the next one I'm gonna say is get him a Texas deadlift bar
Mm-hmm the you know, it's the tried and true deadlift bar out of any on the market
Get them and if you're not sure what to get here's what you get them
Get them the black zinc shaft chrome sleeve Texas deadlift bar that on today is on sale for three hundred forty four dollars
Mm-hmm. That's what you should get them. That is that that's the standard to me if we're talking power bars, if you're a power
lifter, now that the kabuki is sort of disappeared, I have a
hard time believing that that's going to be like a common bar
used in meats now, right? That's right. I mean, it seems weird
that people are like going to be routinely using bars that you
can't actually buy. Yeah, I it's the de facto. that's the go to and I agree I
wrote down for 500 bucks, we're talking barbells, you can
basically get any barbell for 500 bucks like I know there's
more expensive stainless steel options and things but for 500
bucks, you you have your pick of almost any high quality barbell.
You get like 40% of a leco.
you get like 40% of a Aliko.
There is one exception. Yes, the Aliko that will get you a down payment is all that's you're just you're not even
not moving the needle a whole lot there.
What else do you have in that?
piggybacking off of that, I would also say for 500 bucks,
you can get most specialty bars as well. Our favorite
specialty bar, we've made a video on this, the Elite FTS SS Yoke Bar is also
routinely on sale lately.
And when I purchased mine, I used code table talk, I believe that took an extra 10% off.
I think they're usually shipping for free too.
So I think you could get that bar for like 300 ish, which is about the same price as
all of the knockoff all the competitors
Probably cheaper than even the used price as you would see so any home gym lifters gonna like that bar if they don't have it already
That's also it's gonna be a special bar specialty bar
That's high on anyone specialty bar list if they don't have it that really is to me like the pinnacle of a segment
There is is you're talking safety bars that the lead FTS one is is the go-to
Yep
I'm gonna say
plates and
Coming back again to our friends at the strength. Oh, they have a hundred and seventy five pound set which is para forty fives
para twenty fives
What is the ends her's ten has yeah, maybe that must be what it is
90 I'll tell you right now. I got the site here and 61 75
Yeah, that's what it is pair 45s pair 25s pair 10s pair of 5s to and pair of two and a half for 485 bucks
So fitting under our $500 level and they're getting
You know a pair of each of the import most important plates
And then you know later on if they wanted to add on more 45s they sure could
This is how it goes you got a home gym. You probably got some 45s already
This is your introduction into the high life living that but you're like okay now
I have to have all you get a taste of it, and you're like yep
I'm buying more 45s. This has got to happen so that gets you're like, okay now I have to have all you get a taste of it and you're like, yep I'm buying more 45s. This has got to happen. So that gets you in the door. I
Also had that on my list Tanner because
They are the go-to plates. That's not just you. What did you have down on your list? Just the strength co plates
I wrote just strength co plates because for 500 bucks depending on what you need for some people also buy, you know
Yeah, some people might just want some 45. 45 so yeah you get two pairs of 45s for for $400
and you still have a little right little room to spare there so I wrote that down
the other one I put is for 500 bucks you can get the rep a B 5200 bench which to
me boy that's a hard that's that's hard to find a better bench for the money.
It's just so good.
How much is that bench?
Ah, is it 500 even?
Let's see here.
Watch, it's like 700 and I don't remember.
That bench goes for 499.
So you got a penny to spare.
A couple of things that make this bench awesome. I have it in my gym gym used a lot of other benches. That's what makes it awesome. You have it in it exists in my gym
No, it really is the real deal. It's
Constructed so well it comes in a variety of color combos
So depending on whatever the look of your gym is you can change the color of the frame and the rails
To make it go with whatever look you want.
And not very many companies let you do that on a product that's $500.
The pad is available in the standard and wide options.
And then you can also get an adjustable decline post if you want.
That does add a little to the price.
But if, you know, having like eight degrees of decline is important to you.
But this bench is amazing.
of decline is important to you. But this bench is amazing.
I'm 6'1", and it's an adjustable bench,
so one, you can do incline benching
and things like that with it.
But the top pad is long enough that me at 6'1",
I can fit totally on the flat part when I'm benching.
I don't even have to worry about that gap in the bench at all.
And you just use it, you can tell it is rock solid.
Like they, it's got knurled handles on it. The
finish is incredible. The pad is nice and grippy. This is the
bench you need in your home gym. If you want to be serious
about big benching.
I like that. I'm going with bremmy strong beefy custom
sandwich j cups. You've got them.
We've got them here at Massanomics Gym.
And they're about, they're under 300 bucks.
And I think they normally stock in black, but you can get other colors if you ask them
about it.
And they are some of the beefiest J-Cups that you will ever come across.
They are big boys, these things.
Yeah, beefy is the name for them. I are big boys. These things. Yeah,
beefy beefy is the name for them. I got them. I love them. I got
them in red. Masonomics red because you know what pops and
pop every day I get to squat up with these things. These are my
squat J cups every day get to use them. I'm just happy to look
at them. They look so good. And they they work great too.
And they work great too.
All right, next on my list, I put one here at 500 bucks.
If we're talking to home gym, 500 bucks, you could really do some damage on a stereo.
So whether that's, you know,
whether that's looking for something used,
looking for something used,
you could definitely find something really nice for 500.
Or if you want to go out and buy something dude, you could go the route I did I bought on Amazon
I had I had an old
Sony stereo system that I bought when I was in like eighth grade
You know, what was that?
2002 or three or whatever I
Had that early 2000s look to it. I had the speakers the speakers are still just fine
You go on Amazon
You can get a Bluetooth receiver
That the speakers can plug into and then all of a sudden you got Bluetooth you got
Bang and sound system in your gym. It's gonna sound way better than any
Just like battery powered little mini portable speaker. So
That's your spending if you're spending time in the gym make that make that a place you want to be in and music is
Going to play a big part of that
All right last one that I got here well, it's two and one and this is real wild card choice here here
I'm going with for under three hundred and fifty dollars
Prop maybe the best value picks on the whole so far if I'm not so bold as to say so myself that I'm gonna go
with Tommy's used lat pulldown machine or my new used Smith machine at $300. It's funny you put
this because my final one in the $500 category was marketplace finds because if you have 500 bucks
and you're looking at marketplace, yeah, you got options.
You're living high on the hog pretty much.
You got $500 to spend on Facebook marketplace equipment.
But that is the truth though.
If you can be patient, if you're in no hurry
and you got 500 bucks.
Well, you can get a $6,000 Smith machine.
You can buy a $6,000 Smith machine.
You can get a commercial grade lap pulldown for those probably made
You know in the 90s and I still look at that thing every day. I paid 350. Okay, we're talking a $500 budget
I put another 50 into uh restoring it and now it really does look brand new and it's absolutely amazing
So now it really pops dude. It's so I can't wait to get get my lats pop and then your
gym man oh dude I think it's because I hadn't used a lot pull down in so long
when I load that sucker up to like 120 pounds and start repping out reps of 15
and let it really pull me at the top yeah oh I step away I got wings baby I'm
just like blowing up on that it feels so good doctor Mike end of range motion let
it really stretch you out there.
It's great.
I love that machine.
I just love it so much.
I have a hard time even thinking,
even if I had the resources and I decided
I'm going to just scrap this whole thing.
I'm going to go the crazy all in one systems
that rapper rogue come out with.
Part of me is like, no, this, this is electrized.
That pull down is just too good. I just love this machine so much. that rapper rogue come out with. Part of me is like, no, this selectorized lap pulldown
is just too good.
I just love this machine so much.
That's it I had on my list.
That's what I got for 500 as well.
Okay, so now we're going to the limitless.
Take it to the limitless.
I push and I push.
No limit, hold them.
Texas hold them, No limits high stakes
I'm going with first
If you're dealing with a home gym fella or gal I'm going the rep in
125 pound dumbbell pair for
$1,400
This was at the top of my list on here as well
And I actually just broadened it to adjustable dumbbells
because once you get over 500 bucks,
you can get all, I mean, between 500 and a thousand,
you have your pick of almost any adjustable dumbbell.
I mean, really you do, they all fall somewhere
in that category, but once you get a little over 500,
you can pick almost any adjustable dumbbell.
And there's so many options that exist now. The rep in does seem to be the cream of the crop.
It'd be really hard to skip that one, but if you don't need to go up to 80 or 120
pounds, they have like three or four different levels too.
You don't have to get them.
I picked the most, the biggest ones too.
If you're going to do it, ones would be fine.
Yeah, I, I a hundred percent agree unlimited.
That's a, that'd be any person would be really happy
with those if they don't have the full dumbbell set yet.
Yep.
If we're talking unlimited, money's not an option.
Maybe it's time to reassess your whole rack decision.
Because if we're doing that, Rep and Rogue,
and even Bells of Steel, they've been putting,
there's actually other companies,
I just don't look into racks enough
because not in the market for a new rack.
But there's these companies in the last year or two
have put so much into these all in one systems of,
if you're gonna buy their rack,
you can get into this full selectorized
functional trainer system.
I mean, there's so many options that exist now.
I almost can't even keep up with it.
But if you're really gonna drop some money,
you could get yourself a really cool setup.
I'm gonna say if you're dealing with someone
that's into strongman training,
you'd buy something from MB Power Center
because it's universally some of the,
regarded as some of the best strongman equipment out there
and I can verify that.
We've got what?
Log, circus dumbbell, the regular loadable circus dumbbell,
we've got the stone of steel,
we've got the farmer's carry handles and all this stuff. I'm going to say though,
the MB Power Center 12 inch log at $800. That'd be pretty sweet. Like if you're a strong man,
it's like the nicest log out there. We've got it. It like doesn't really get beefier
than that or a need for anything more so than that. So, but just something from MB Power
Center if you're dealing with that's in the strongman training
Because the stuff's also kind of expensive it is yeah, I mean but it's premium like once you once you get your hands on it You'll understand why it costs what it was
I am going to put if we're talking unlimited
Depending on where your gym is at you could be battling a variety of elements look and into some HVAC systems of some kind.
And, you know, unlimited.
You might be able to get off with something cheaper,
like an electric heater, which is something I recently did.
But if it's a space that you really plan on
maybe even using more for than just a gym,
you know, adding heat to it,
if you're in this part of the country,
really opens up your options.
Kind of the last thing I had, I did.
I guess at first I said like the rogue monster rhino is twenty four hundred
dollars, but really it's just like any specialized piece of equipment.
You know, it's limitless and someone really wants that prime fitness
leg extension or leg curl.
And they have like a fairly significant size home gym
It could be any specialized piece of arsenal pendulum squat or whatever that one is that yeah, and I even along those same lines
I also put functional trainers that that's oh, yeah
I get hyped up quite a bit
So if you don't have the rack all in one whether that's buying I was does Rep have, is it the Adonis,
is that their functional trainer, the standalone one?
Yeah, I think that's right.
Everyone has something along those lines now,
or maybe you go, you can also look on Marketplace
for something, a used free motion functional trainer
or whatever, I mean, there's lots of companies
that make those things.
If you want something more commercial,
you could probably get that and find it if you're in a major market of some kind
Do you got anything else in this category that pretty I mean once we're talking unlimited that kind of you got you can get
Whatever you want, but those are what all the bang. Those are all suggestions. Those are ideas if you're struggling here
Here's one one of everything off the massonomic store
Yes, actually we forgot one. We did forget one in the under 50 cat actually I'm not looking back
We forgot two items. I forgot two items under 50 category a monthly subscription to the massonomics podcasts supporting membership
Yeah, that's three bucks a month. That's I'd go is even like the yeah
I didn't maybe even get bumped up to like the $20 a month
I mean, yes, you should do that
You should the 20 is the better one, especially if it's a gift for them like they would that tree don't really appreciate it treat them
The other one I wanted to put this would go in the under 500 category would be a year subscription to juggernaut AI
Oh, there you go. That's a good idea
Probably the biggest thing that would probably the biggest impact on your training more than any of these equipment items would be
Good proper programming. Yeah, that's a good one
Discount code mass dynamics, I don't know if you can use it with a year subscription or not
I think maybe you can but I'm not positive. It's worth that sure either
It's worth trying. I'll tell you that much. Well, you don't have to, I'm just saying, even just on a monthly basis, 30 bucks a month.
Right.
You're gonna spend 360 over the course of a year.
Right, right, right.
Okay, that's our list for our, what was the title of it?
The title of this list?
Best gifts for every price point for the lifter
or gym owner in your life.
Yep, that's the name of the list.
That's definitely the exact name I gave it the first time.
That's what you'll see.
The title will be,
lifters holiday gift guide ideas for all budgets,
whether they're home gym lifters or basically any lifter,
here's an idea for every budget.
Home gym or basic.
Or they've been lifting for one month or 20 years.
They'll be sure to like one of these items title.
Top 10.
Even though we named like 22.
Top 10 for every category.
Yeah, that's the title.
Now, here's the most important piece now. What did we miss? What
is a great gift? I want to know because people do have there's
just so especially in those cheaper price points, where you
can get just things that people don't think of as being a big
deal. What did we miss? What is something that would that would
be a great gift idea for someone that's into lifting that we did not say
Yeah, go to the YouTube comment section to yeah
Please actually do leave a comment because I do I do like seeing what people have to say about this stuff
Yeah, last week we did what was our episode last week the pros and cons of home gym and people
That's not a lot of really good comments. Yeah, we like to see those
Yeah, so leave us a comment on this YouTube video also.
And if you normally don't listen on YouTube,
which a lot of people don't,
but just head over to YouTube, blog in there,
and leave your comment there,
because it's a great place to funnel the conversation
of this episode as the YouTube comments.
And a lot of really interesting comments on that last one.
It was more comments on that, I mean,
specifically probably because we asked for it,
but so we'll be sure to ask for it again again because it is fun and it's an engaging conversation about the show then
Here's two more other random ones quick
I just thought of a tripod for your gym if you don't have one of those under 50 having that is nice
And also wall control if you have a home gym wall control is quite nice to have keep that stuff organized. That's a good one
So that's it that now the now the list is complete everyone was just running to face to YouTube to leave comments
And they're like well, yeah, Tommy. They said the time you use the one they said the two we're not gonna get any comments anymore
I challenge people there's not a single thing you guys could think of that
We didn't make our list you won't need there won't be a comment for
You leave because we named everything you'll be okay. I guess we can't leave a comment because I did everything
Edit we we forgot one more
Ejaculoid all right now we've covered our bases like dang it now the people like
That was my third option
Open the YouTube app and close it of the people are like, ah, Tommy, that was my third option.
How many times do I have to open the YouTube app and close it?
Damn it.
Also, while you're over there, we kind of talked about it,
head over to buildfastformula.com.
I mentioned their 80-20 protein powder.
That would be a great recommendation for even for yourself.
It doesn't have to be a gift.
Treat yourself, right?
Give daddy a little gift.
Give daddy himself a little gift this year.
Daddy's been nice.
Daddy deserves something too, I think.
Buy all these gifts for all these people,
but everyone's like, daddy needs a little something.
That's where you head over to buildfastformit.com.
You can get the 80-20 protein powder.
They're full blitz, fully loaded,
caffeinated pre-workout high-stim pre-workout.
They've also got their Veso Blitz,
their dual nitric oxide support supplement.
They now have creatine.
Check it out all at buildfastformula.com
and make sure to use discount code Masanomics.
All right, we did our holiday lifter gift guide ideas,
of course.
Oh, I went to a weight room this weekend
and part of my inspiration on where to put,
what I want to comment about it is,
it's called The Weight Room in Rapid City.
I've been there before, but part of my inspiration,
I'm thinking, Oh no, this
equipment could be a little closer together in Massonomics Gym is when you go to almost
any other gym, it's not as spread out as Massonomics. No, the space is maximized. Right. And we
have a lot of, we have a lot of enormous walkways that don't probably need to be as big as they
are, especially for a gym that usually doesn't have more than 10 people in it at a time.
It's never full.
It'd be different if you're like,
oh yeah, 70 people will be here at five o'clock today.
It usually has like three people in it at most.
That's actually the funny part.
Sometimes there's seven or whatever.
It's usually less than five at any given time.
Yeah.
Yes.
That was my takeaway from lifting at the gym.
It's a good gym.
I've been there a couple times before. That was my takeaway from lifting at this. It's a good gym. I've been there a couple times before
That was my main takeaway is like wow they really cram a lot of equipment in here
Was specific machines or anything all about you they have?
They have a bunch of old Texas power bars. They actually have the gen 2 Texas power bars
I was looking for one forever that has the snap ring on the end of the bar
They had like three of them there.
And I had to get someone in Texas to grab me one of those
and I'm like, huh, they have like three right here.
And they had a Gen 1 Texas Power Bar in there too.
So those just had to have been there forever, right?
I think they've been there forever
because their plates are all like the Yvonneko revolver
plates too, plates to cool plates
They have a ton of hammer strength. They have like every hammer strength older hammer strength
I think but I like to I think for the most part those are regarded pretty highly aren't they older?
Yeah, I think so. I like it. It's a cool setup there
all right, and I don't want to shit on anyone, but I have to tell this story because it is,
I don't wanna make fun of people for being stupid,
but this was, this blew my mind.
Sometimes you gotta know.
Yeah, and I get someone could have like a learning
disability, that wasn't the case in this scenario.
Like I'm quite confident it wasn't, this person didn't have a learning disability all right yeah my
attention so I went in there I had actually called before I went I'm like
you sell a day pass I presume just making sure you're open and that you I
can just come and pay and lift for today and I didn't care what the price was I
know day passes are expensive so I was like I don't really care I just I I was like, I don't really care. I just,
I just want to be in there. I'm like five days. I just, I actually didn't even care about what my lift was. I was just feeling disgusting actually that I'm like, I need to go and like do something
like, yep. No feeling. Yeah. I just, I'm gross. I feel gross right now and I want to feel a little
bit better. So I'm going to go to the gym and the day passed was 13.50, which is just fine.
I, Jim's got a,
Jim's got a money somehow.
Yeah, Jim, Jim owner's got to eat too.
13.50.
So I hand the guy a 10 and a five.
He proceeds to look at the money and then he's standing at a desk.
I assume he's not a listener.
He didn't know who I was, so I hope he's not going to hear this.
If you're not, I think the moral is going to be to learn math.
But anyway, he reaches under the desk, pulls up a big calculator with a big button.
No.
Sets it on the table.
And I'm like, and I didn't say anything,
but I'm like, what you doing with that calculator?
And then I'm like, wait a second,
there's probably sales tax.
He's like, he's gotta figure out the sales tax.
I'm like, could I figure that in my head out?
Could I figure it out in my head?
Probably, but I would use a calculator for that.
Yes, yep, yep.
So then I'm like, okay, I'll think you're like,
ah, one step ahead of me. Good job. Yeah. Yeah. I'm like,
okay, I'm sorry for almost judging you there. Then he
punches things up on the calculator for a while. Like I'm
like, a lot of calculations going on. I'm like, what's he
doing? And then he did did for like, legitimate,
like he had to have re-typed it in like three times
because I'm not sure what he could have been punching
on the calculator for that long.
And then he goes, okay, your change is $1.50.
He hands me a dollar and two quarters.
And I'm like, what the hell is going on?
I'm like, no, but- I'm waiting'm going to come up with a camera and be like,
yeah, like, and then I'm like, I know not everyone's good at mental.
My I'm pretty I'm I'm just guessing you're probably fairly decent.
I know you're fairly decent at mental math.
Also, I'm at least fairly decent at mental math.
Like, you know, most of the people I encounter
are probably decent at it.
But I'm like-
We're talking numbers between one and two.
What?
That's like insane, isn't it?
Am I wrong?
I mean, the number is one and a half.
Yeah.
Like, if someone says 15 minus 13.50,
that's not even mental math.
That's just something you know without thinking.
Yeah.
Right?
Like you don't think about that.
You just know what that is.
Right, you don't really spend time thinking about it.
When someone, if you say something 13.50.
I definitely don't think where is the nearest calculator.
It's definitely not.
It's not, but you know, some things you have to do mental math on you're like oh if someone was like what's 20 times?
65 or like okay. Yeah, I'll do 10 times 6. It's 650 and I'll double that it's 1300
Yeah, or if like you do that if it requires a little bit of mental math right or if like a day pass was like
1371 and you gave him a 20, I can see I'd be like,
ah, okay, I gotta carry some numbers here.
I'm gonna start with six dollars
because that gets me into 19 something
and then you're like, okay, 29 cents.
But even that's not hard.
It just takes you a quarter and four pennies.
Yeah, like you have to calculate something.
In my mind, 15 minus 13. 50, there's not even a calculator.
It's just, you just, your brain just knows what that is.
Like if you've completed up through junior high
or grade school math.
I agree.
I agree.
I was blown away by that.
Though I'm like, okay, that's what people,
old people are talking about if they're like,
kids these days. I'm like, that, that's what people, old people are talking about if they're like, oh, kids these days.
I'm like, that seriously is a kids these days thing because I'm like, I have a first grader
and she wouldn't know that, but I think I could get her to know that.
She knows some addition and subtraction.
She doesn't really understand half of it.
She doesn't really understand 50 cent you know like
If you just say not a whole 14 minus 13.5. I don't you know she doesn't fully understand the decimal
Tenths and hundreds and everything yet, but we're not far away from it. You know like it's right around the corner beer any day I
Don't know that's insane and
There again someone someone has a learning disability or something, I would not make
fun of them about that.
I want to be clear.
Like, I'm like, no, you definitely graduated from high school, like, and went to the normal
classes.
You need to know that.
Yeah.
Also, I don't know if you're working the front desk that involves money, if you have a, like,
learning disability to that extent with numbers.
True.
True. It'd be a liability at that point. learning disability to that extent with numbers. True, true.
It'd be a liability at that point. You don't get to run the cash register.
Yeah.
Just so you know, I don't know anything about numbers,
but I will run this cash register.
Yeah, that's not a good idea.
I was gonna ask you something about that.
But the gym was nice though?
It was good.
Yeah, it was nice.
I mean, nothing is a massonomics gym.
Dude, there was quite a few people lifting in there.
I actually had the same thought this weekend.
Well, I just told my whole story about how I went to Unity
to go get this equipment.
I was, before I left, I lifted on Friday and I'm like,
you know what, I'm gonna lift on,
I'm gonna lift on Saturday tomorrow or Sunday when I when I go back home
Just so I keep my days on track and I was starting to pack my stuff up and I'm like dude
It's just gonna be such a bummer like going back and for all I know I'm gonna be lifting on rubber hex plates
And it's gonna be like just the most passive
Crappy bar and they'll probably be a sign that says no chalk and I'm like, you know what?
I'll just wait the one more day and just lift at home. Like it's yeah, it's just gonna be better all around for that
Yeah
the other thing I did think about it you brought it up to but like
Five years ago. I would have went and been really interested in the equipment
and now at this point I feel like now I just analyze the equipment at such a fine detail even
that I knew that I that even five years ago that I wouldn't have even looked at but now I'm like
looking at every single bar being like oh yeah I can see the faint tech this is a gen 2 uh I'm like
oh look at that that's interesting like five years ago I would have been like, oh, what's this?
I mean, you had to be the first person the history of that gym to be able to identify a Texas bar by what generation it is
Right or even it's even difficult to identify those as Texas power bars because they're such a
Stamp on them like normal people wouldn't would not even think that that's a Texas power bar
But like like the flat last time I was there years ago
I probably you know, I probably knew what a Texas power bar. But like like the flat last time I was there years ago I probably you know, I probably knew what a Texas power bar was but you also know what I would have said
Oh, I don't even know what bars these are. Yeah
I've noticed or I feel like I've started to just pay more attention about things is machines in general
Because that too as far as like the weights and the bars and that stuff goes like well
No, we just know what the best is. We have the best
Even a rack and a rig, like, OK, I mean, let's be real.
Like once you have three by three steel and there's holes in it, it's like nothing really changes at a gym.
It's like, OK, it is what it is.
But where things get interesting and different now is the machines, because that's where it's like
you're talking a way different price, budget and space, budget and all that.
And that's the one thing I feel like I'm starting to look at more is like,
what's going on here? What brand are they using? What does that look like? How does that work?
Right. And I was paying more attention to that. It was odd. I didn't even notice. I did do deadlifts.
I did 135 for four sets of 10. And I use those Ivanko revolver plates. And it was funny. I didn't
even notice until after I was funny, I didn't even notice
until after I was done, there was a sign behind,
there's a deadlift platform in there.
There was a sign back there that says,
use bumper plates when deadlifting.
Oh.
I'm like, well, it's probably because the average person
comes in and just drops it from the, you know.
Right, and I mean, I was, the way I deadlift right now,
I set it down, like you could have a-
As gentle as possible. Yeah, I mean, like it's way I did lift right now. I set it out like you could have as gentle as
possibly. Yeah, I mean, like it's making no noise. Like
that's why I suppose no one would have even said anything to
me if you know, I feel like CrossFit probably had to have
like, had this phase where it conditioned people to think that
yes, anytime a bar leaves the ground, you just let that puppy
go. Just let her fly. And that's probably there's probably a lot of gym owners that were just thinking why?
Why are we doing this? That's true
That was my gym experience outside of Madison. I'm extreme though, but the people there I actually noticed several I'm everyone I noticed was
Lifting you know that lifted and drinking lifted
I mean, I mean there's a lot of people just like
Getting after it not in commercial gyms very often. There's probably like 15 people in there and everyone was kind of lifting seriously I thought you know just generally like various levels of
There is a different thing though that didn't exist ten or fifteen years ago. It's like it is like the Sam Sulek
thing where there's young bros in there
that like all do the pump cover
and they're doing like all the things
that I would see on like a Sam Sulek video.
It's funny when you say all the things,
I just feel like I get what you're saying.
Yeah, you would just be like,
yeah, okay, yeah, this person is 20,
they're wearing the pump cover, they take it off,
they're flexing a little bit in the mirror, you know, they're wearing the pump cover, they take it off, they're flexing a little bit in the mirror.
You know, they're over there,
like they're actually doing lifts good even,
where I'd say we're like, oh yeah,
it's like all based around like the cable machine
and the, but they're doing them well and like, you know,
they're usually the downfall there is they're doing it well
and everything, they're usually just not lifting very hard is a lot of times what the issue is.
Right.
That's true.
But there is just a lot more of that than I like.
I don't remember that that much.
Like I feel like when we were all 20, we were just wearing like shitty clothes.
It was like you go to the gym and your shittiest clothes.
That industry, I feel like didn't really like the the
Whether you want to call athleisure wear or right a more elevated
Athletic or even just like back of the day. That's what it looks going for a specific look Yeah back in the days was like, uh, you had kind of like cutoff shirts
You had cutoff shirts and then it's like, I don't know
Do you have Jordan basketball shorts or Nike shorts and And like, you just there wasn't as many
options even like there wasn't anyone wearing like a cut off old t shirt. Like everyone like they had
a specific like, tank, you know, it's like made for the gym shirt. Right. And there's just so many
companies now that do that, you know, back in the day, it was like, what was your, would you get a gold's gym stringer tank? Like that was your option, wasn't it? Right. I
had one of those. See, like that was that was it. You just
didn't have options. Now you have some I had one of those.
Yeah. And I just I don't have no comment on it other than it's
just noticeably different. I'm like, yep, because I'm just I'm
just there looking for things that I want to comment. Well,
it's the same thing with like, though, like having the full matching
spandex sets and the whole thing to you know, that wasn't a thing either.
Yeah, no, that just didn't exist.
I mean, it kind of in the 80s, but it wasn't like a wasn't like the thing
that it is now, you know. True, true.
All right. We got anything else this episode?
I think we got it all.
Should we land this bitch? Yeah, we got to land this into crew falls, baby
next stop crew falls
It's one of those cool airplanes everyone's partying the whole time everyone, please
Put your seatbelts back in get your asses in the seat because we're been beginning our descent into Sunny Crew Falls, South Dakota.
40 crew members, Tommy and I talked about it.
It's like, regardless what, you know,
we got people coming from their early 20s
and people in their mid 40s and men, women,
people from all different walks of life.
We got people from their 20s to scants.
Men, women, scants?
I mean, could there be a more diverse group?
Canadians, Americans, it's international and we all get together and it's just like a weekend where everyone's kind of like,
nope, we're just having fun this weekend.
We're all just sort of catching up with old friends.
Fun. Yeah, yeah. The agenda is fun.
Yeah, yeah.
I am very excited.
This is one of those weeks where I have one big project
I have to get done this week,
and it's just like the real thorn in my side
because I just have such a hard time focusing on anything
that's not directly mathematics related this week.
Right, I've been really, well, consider,
I don't know, in this scenario, I consider it fortunate,
very busy at work also that I'm like, I don't know, in this scenario, I consider it fortunate, very busy at work also,
that I'm like, I don't really have a lot of time
to get all that excited and antsy that I'm just like,
nope, it's just gonna sneak up on me,
and it's like, oh, it's time to go today?
Great, that just, it's just like today's the day.
So catch us in Crew Falls, how about that?
Our last YouTube video was what?
the powerbar hansu
Ilico powerbar comparison, okay, I almost thought we talked about that last week. I must be well cuz it came out
I was very early came out on like Tuesday last week. Oh, that's why
Okay, but this week. I'll check out this week. We call Paul. Yeah, Paul Foss's
So now check out this week. We call Paul Paul's
shed gym tour.
Yeah, epic shed gym in Crew Falls.
Perfect timing for our Crew Falls visit, actually.
Yeah, I'm I haven't watched the Adam McHugh.
When do we film that? Like four months ago.
It's been a while.
I get that edited. I'm excited.
This is why I love this is the funnest part of what you wait.
There it is.
This is the funnest part of when you wait for is the funnest part of when you wait for me four months between recording videos is when you go to edit it
It's like why I go up first time. Oh, I love it. Like I'm not even you
First time I'm like, oh, I'm excited like like Paul Shed Jim tour. I'm gonna be like, oh, this is great
This is just fun for me to watch
Yeah, yeah, it'll be good. It's all polished and has a cool thumbnail. I'm
like, Oh, this is like Christmas coming early. And also actually along those lines, the
economics YouTube has been popping off. Oh, man, is it popping off? It's awesome. This we are we
are in, you know, we said this a while ago, actually, I think more mid summer, we're like,
we got some big things planned. Yeah, and we're gonna put some
effort in. Actually, we've been saying we put effort into
YouTube, but this is our most concentrated single stretch of
effort. From a financial standpoint, from a time
standpoint, from an at from an everything. And dude, it's
paying off like it's people are engaging, paying videos are
going great. The numbers are going great, it's just fun and rewarding.
