Massenomics Podcast - Ep. 51: Dan Bell

Episode Date: March 26, 2017

We sat down with Dan Bell after a big Arnold Sports Festival weekend. Dan squatted 1000lbs for a double in the Animal Cage, and then crushed an entire pizza in around ten minutes. We've got a better ...chance at beating his pizza eating time than we do at beating his squat numbers.. All right, dudes, gentlemen, lady dudes, we're here in Columbus, Ohio. We are joined for the Massanomics podcast this week by Dan Bell. Dan, how's it going today?
Starting point is 00:00:37 Fabulous, fabulous, fantastic as usual. Yeah, so Dan is probably a little bit tuckered out. Dan had done just a little bit of lifting this week. Was it yesterday, guys, right? Yesterday, Dan did a little bit of squatting in the cage, and by a little bit, Tanner, do you remember how much he squatted? I'm not really sure. It was 500 pounds.
Starting point is 00:00:59 He failed it, but it was a good try. He tried really hard, though. You could tell. And then I snatched it. No, you tell us about it. What did you hit? Yeah, actually, I didn't even plan on it. But I knew I was going to go work up to a grand,
Starting point is 00:01:17 and I wanted to get even over that. What's a grand? Is that like 100 pounds? It's actually like 452.3 kilograms. Kilos. I knew that. So, Dan, you said you were trying to build up to 1,000 pounds. You didn't know what you were going to do with it?
Starting point is 00:01:41 No, I knew I was going to get there, but I didn't know if I wanted to go heavier. After the first rep, I knew it was game time. It was moving. I was like, let's double this and call it a day. It's still a decent day. Right, right, yeah. I was happy. How long does it take you to build up to something like that?
Starting point is 00:01:59 Well, to be perfectly honest with you, I was exhausted from the expo. We loaded the booth on Thursday. Friday, we just hung out. I can't even tell you how many pictures I took. I was like, how's it going? I was beat. I even started out at 455. I didn't take the bar or anything.
Starting point is 00:02:19 I was like, give me 200 on each side. I just want to get this over with. Is that normal for you at all? Are you normally bar, plate, two plate? How do you usually jump it? I usually start at 315. Okay. 325.
Starting point is 00:02:31 Jesus, fuck. And the knees are cool with that right off the bat? Yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure. It takes probably 500, maybe 500 to 550 to where I feel like I'm actually getting in the hole really well. Just to get you down there? Right, yeah, because my hamstrings and my adductors are so tight, like all constantly.
Starting point is 00:02:50 And like right out there is when I feel like I'm getting in the hole really well. So I usually pause six, seven, eight, and then take off from there. Do you ever wear sleeves at all while you're warming up? Not if I know. Or do you just bare knees up until you wrap up? Yeah, if I know I'm going to put the wraps on, I'm not wasting time. It takes four guys to get my sleeves on.
Starting point is 00:03:11 There are two X's in it. Okay, I was going to say, what size sleeves do they... I talked to the SPD guy, and I was like, I got two X's, and he's like... I'm like, yeah. He's like, no way. I'm like, no, he's like... No, you don't. He's like, try these threes. I'm like, okay, He's like, no way. I'm like, no. He's like, no, you don't.
Starting point is 00:03:25 He's like, try these threes. I'm like, okay, I will. I haven't even thought about it because I've just been training in wraps recently. Yeah. Do you compete in sleeves sometimes then too? I mean, you've been doing wraps quite a bit. Do you do both? Oh, of course, yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:38 It was actually last April. Last April I took the world record. Ray had it at 936 and I took the world record and Ray had it at 936 and I took it at 942 and then kind of lit a fire under him what the hell
Starting point is 00:03:53 you created a monster so this is your fault I'm not I was pumped I told him that yesterday or Friday I was like dude thank you so much. This burns a fire in me.
Starting point is 00:04:08 You're doing such great things for you. And he's like, I can't say the same thing about you. So you're pretty good buddies with him, huh? Yeah, we talk. I mean, like just the other day and then occasionally here and there online. So he's real quiet, but he's super nice. We got a chance to talk to him today here too. Ray Williams, big
Starting point is 00:04:27 friend of the podcast. We asked him about you and he, I don't know, he kind of said that he thought you're a bitch and stuff. I called that vibe too. That's awesome. And then he said it's money time and he left. So don't take it out on us.
Starting point is 00:04:50 It was Ray that said that. Just kidding. That was the first thing you said tonight too when you walked in. What's next then? I mean, if you doubled 1,000, what's the most you've done in wraps in a meet before? 1008. Okay, so do you got a number in mind to go bigger than that?
Starting point is 00:05:16 1071. 1071. That's a big number. That's the magic number. That would be October. Okay, where are you competing at then? Melbourne, Australia. Go head-to-head with Andre.
Starting point is 00:05:26 Oh, nice. Have you ever competed against him before? No, never, never. What other super heavyweights are doing it? I think Chad. I know he's got Marcos and a lot of guys on the list. And I know, I mean, it's barely the start of the year, so who knows what's actually going to go down. I got my plane tickets and
Starting point is 00:05:47 got good coaching. You're going. Yeah, yeah. You know for sure you're going to be there. Yeah, I'm not doing anything. I'm doing nothing but train for it until then. Obviously, you're... Is that something like Rob? Like Rob would go to Philippus or... This last year, Sean Doyle and Chad Wesley Smith and Andre. No, I don't think Rob. Yeah, I don't. I don't think Rob's traveled out of the country.
Starting point is 00:06:11 Yeah, I don't think so. Have you ever been out of the country for a meet before? No, no. This is my first time. What's the Fed? Is that the? I don't think Marcos has one on it. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:20 No. Is that like, so that's, is that Big Dog Who runs that then? I can't. I have no fucking way to tell you. It's the last thing. But Marco something. Spiros. Marco Spiros.
Starting point is 00:06:32 Him and his brother run a lot of the pro-raws and stuff like that over there in Australia. So do they put up cash for the winner? Yeah, of course. What would be at stake there? I think Andre got $30,000 last year. So I'm sure it's going to be somewhere around there. Solopay, right? Right.
Starting point is 00:06:48 That's a lot for a powerlifting. Yeah, I think I could quit my shitty job until the end of the year. And then regret it until I win my next meet for sure. Right. What has Milanochev done? What did he do at Big Dog this last year? He put up something big. 10.69.
Starting point is 00:07:06 10.69. Yeah, or 10.68. And then he just doubled 10.33. And, of course, I said that a couple times this week. I kind of joked, ah, I should probably double 10.25. I was like, I'd be great, you know, doing the cage and all things. But, no, I just played smart and did what I needed to do. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:23 So do you do any, like, special training to get up to the cage, or just that day you just go let her buck? I have a specific peaking program I run for myself. Okay. It works really well on my squat and deadlift. My bench, I don't know what the fuck I'm doing on my bench. I ain't going to lie to you. I know.
Starting point is 00:07:42 My bench is really hit or miss. I've worked a little bit, Jaron Rutledge and a few other people here and there. But other than that, my peaking program that I've ran, I kind of collaborated together off a few different ideas I had from tons of other powerlifters. Where's your dad at then? Give us an IDN number. Right. I think I pulled 8 855 beltless three or
Starting point is 00:08:07 four weeks ago yeah and then other than that i've just been working a lot beltless and deficits so that's got to be feeling pretty good then isn't it yeah oh yeah that feels all right i'm okay with that considering i went from like a mild 815 to 870 just by not deadlifting it was so stupid that was the secret right i don't know if my leverages got different or what because i just got lazy and i'm like oh you know i don't want to deadlift this weekend so i didn't and then like next thing you know i'm going to meat prep and like 855 bellas okay fuck it and i just pulled it i'm like this is stupid the competition i pulled 843, pretty clean. And then for 2400 total, I would have had to get 870 and got it right to my knees,
Starting point is 00:08:52 and I was just cashed. Do you like beltless just to train your back a little more then? I feel like I get a lot more of my core. And it helps me breathing-wise to be able to feel my belt. Actually, my last belt was too tight. I couldn't deadlift with it at all. Matt Pioneer, I got another belt from him actually Saturday
Starting point is 00:09:12 before I squatted. It's a little bit longer. It looks similar to this. It's actually identical. Same size, right? Can we get that around your calf maybe? I was just thinking that will definitely fit around my quad. Do you wear a buckle belt or do you wear a lever? Mine's a lever.
Starting point is 00:09:31 Yeah, you do? Okay. Although squats, I like it tight. Tight as I can get it. And then deadlifts. You want to be able to breathe? I can at least put my hand down there so I know I can breathe into it. Yeah, real nice.
Starting point is 00:09:44 So maybe we could get him to just take bench out of the competition. I'd love it. Squat deadlift, sign me the fuck up. I was curious about the cage. You know, you got Duffin in there doing what he did today. You got guys like Strickland benching 600 pounds. KC Mitchell. Yeah, and all this shit going on.
Starting point is 00:10:04 You've done it before this year then, too. You've been in there. Yeah. What's that experience like with all those guys? I've got to say, it's pretty bucket list material. Yeah. First time was two years ago, and I came in with a supplement company. I'm not mentioning names, but they brought me out here, and I'm like,
Starting point is 00:10:24 Sweet Arnold, it would be great to go, and I'm not mentioning names, but they brought me out here and I'm like, sweet Arnold, you'll be great to go. And I'm going to see the cage. Everybody's seen the cage videos. Animal does a great job with the production of that. And it was just, Oh my God, just mind blowing to even see it.
Starting point is 00:10:35 And then the ice storm that night and like two or three of their guys couldn't show up. So one of the guys got ahold of me and I just hit 914 at rum and just squat. I was like, you know, my name was moving on up, I guess 2210 total or something like that. People were getting to notice me then, and I think it was Friday night, Eric got a message from Eric Schwartz, and he's like, hey, any chance you want to squat in the cage tomorrow?
Starting point is 00:11:02 And I woke up. I was like, oh, my God. You better not be a dream. I was like, this is not cool. I was like, yes, I'd love to. My mind was completely blown. I hit 925 pretty clean. And I had old Brandon Lilly.
Starting point is 00:11:19 This is after his accident. He's sitting on the bench staring at me, and I'm just like, oh. his accident he's sitting on the bench staring at me and i'm just like oh andre hit 805 for four or something like that and he was just kind of chilling at the time of this training and i finally met him for the first time then and you know it's just like my i was a kid in a candy store you know just well you don't ever get to see like all of you guys all in one fucking place exactly yeah yeah i wish I could tell you how hard the dick was that week. It was bad.
Starting point is 00:11:49 Like I was 14 again. And then I saw you were talking about it. You had a post about it. Did you have Rob Hall was whooping your ass a little bit before you went out there today? I tell you, the day before he squatted, he's like, hey, I'm going to do this.
Starting point is 00:12:07 Don't hit me or anything. I'm like, alright, no problem. So then I'm like, he's in my ear yelling at me. I'm like, hey, give me two on the traps. It felt like a guy had a two by four. What the fuck? You can see your whole body shaking. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:23 Bro, this is not okay. We can dump. What the fuck? You can see your whole body shake. Yeah. I was like, whoa, hey, bro. Bro, this is not okay. We can dump. And he did it three more times. I was like, you motherfucker. All right, well, not failing this one. It just lit my ass up. But it was good.
Starting point is 00:12:36 It reminded me, I'm not going to say they're too alike, but Gracie got me to go to the U.S. Open last year, too. And I was like, what the fuck? Damn. I know dudes that don't hit that hard, Casey. Come on. Is that your go-to before a big lift, then? You like to get slapped around a little bit?
Starting point is 00:12:53 Oh, just catch your attention. Just something to wake you up? Right, right. And it really makes my focus zone in a lot more. People, you sniff pneumonia or do stuff like that. I've gone down that path, too. But you give me something like that and I just focus pretty good.
Starting point is 00:13:08 What about music or anything like that? Anything in particular you've got to listen to? I can't say a lot of shit about this because it's pretty funny. Play me something black. I'm just saying, everybody instantly knows I want to listen to rap, but I'm nowhere close to racism. But everybody just takes a laugh about it. It's pretty funny.
Starting point is 00:13:32 Everyone knows what you mean when you say it. Exactly, exactly. At that point, that's really just on them. Exactly. Now, we did just get done with a pizza-eating competition. And I don't know how everybody's holding up after that. But Dan came in third place. It was a very respectable third, though.
Starting point is 00:13:53 It was a pretty respectable third. Now, let's not sell me short here. A distant four. I don't know. What was your time again? Do you remember what your time was? I had 11 and some change. All right, yeah, fuck. That was 15 minutes. What was your time again? Do you remember what your time was? I had 11 and some change. All right, yeah, fuck.
Starting point is 00:14:07 That was 15 minutes. What was that, a 16-inch pizza? It was a 16-inch pizza. You fools went pepperoni. It's just extra shit you got to eat, guys. I went cheese, but apparently it didn't hold up. Four of us got it down out of how many people ate this fucking thing. I think it was 16.
Starting point is 00:14:22 16 people. So four out of 16 did it. I feel good. Dan, how are you feeling? I feel like I think there were 16. 16 people. So four out of 16 did it. I feel good. Dan, how are you feeling? I feel like I made bucks. Yeah. I mean, it wasn't an amount of food that I wouldn't eat normally. Typical.
Starting point is 00:14:35 I had large pizza last night. Were you? Papa John's with three toppings. Not in 10 minutes. I think the real surprise there was who got first. I don't know if anyone would have picked that up. We had a ringer. There was a couple skinny guys here.
Starting point is 00:14:52 I was a little bit keyed in on them because I was like, oh, what are these guys doing here? They've got to move because we have to eat this pizza now. Right, yeah. And then so we get up there, and they're posted up, and their pizza comes rolling out. And then so one of them had, and they're posted up, and their pizza comes rolling out. And then so one of them had a girlfriend who's getting in his ear with some strategy, and I was like, what the fuck is happening here? Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:15:12 And then that wasn't the one who did any good. But the one between Tanner and Sean's. Jesus. The one who was videoing himself? Yeah. Yeah, he had a tripod in his phone. Right there staring at his pizza the whole time. But if I was as good at eating pizza as he was, I'd videotape it. videoing himself yeah yeah he had he had like a tripod in his phone right there staring at his pizza
Starting point is 00:15:26 the whole time but if I was as good at eating pizza as he was I'd videotape it oh yeah for sure we all videotape
Starting point is 00:15:31 any lift we do that matters so I would I would definitely videotape myself if I could eat a pizza sub seven minutes
Starting point is 00:15:42 like that guy did and you know someone's serious when they start folding their pizza and just letting it sit in their water cup while they're eating more pizza? Yeah, the crust.
Starting point is 00:15:49 He'd eat up to the spot where the cheese was gone and just soak it in his fucking water. Yeah. And so as soon as he did that, I was like, that's a level
Starting point is 00:15:57 that I don't even want to be on. You know what I mean? The good thing is I didn't see that because I would have went there. I was fucking there to win. He wasn't too much ahead of you, though, still. If you would have known that, you probably could have kept up with him.
Starting point is 00:16:12 Oh, yeah, I was heckling the shit out of him. I'm like, come on, you fucking twig. And then mid-lift, or mid-lift, mid-competition, Dan pipes up, well, what's your total? Yeah. Or mid-lift. Mid-competition, Dan pipes up, well, what's your total? Because I would guess that... I'm just going to throw some numbers out there. I would be willing to bet that he can squat no more than 145 pounds.
Starting point is 00:16:37 Squat's probably not his lift. Bench, no more than 115 pounds. Bench probably isn't his lift. He's a 45 deadlifter. I am going to say that he probably has some sort of weird sumo deadlift savant skill. He's one of
Starting point is 00:16:54 them tall lanky guys that might just come and grab sumo and pull 315 pounds his first fucking day. Right. That does give him a nice sub 600 total. That's awesome. Which is a little better than mine.
Starting point is 00:17:14 But yeah, we had a pretty awesome time. But on the way back home and in talking, we did kind of come across him. I wasn't quite aware of him. You guys have quite a bit of a relationship with the great Ed Cohn. Anything you want to, can you, can you fill us in on that, how that relationship kind of started and what,
Starting point is 00:17:31 what it's like being around Ed Cohn? My most, well, I grew up in central Illinois. So, I mean, Ed was always three hours away. I mean, I never really went out of my way to go up there, but I knew he was at Lance's, and I knew he trained up there, so I met him for the first time at Barbell Central. Just,
Starting point is 00:17:54 oh, hey, Dan, how's it going? Like, he knew my first name. I'm like, what the fuck? Holy shit! Here I am, trying not to have a hard-on in front of him. And, yeah, it's all right. He's just, the other night, we walk into the hotel,
Starting point is 00:18:13 and he's like a couple doors down from me, and I have my back turned towards the elevator, and I'm talking to Jay and Megan, and all of a sudden I hear behind me, hey, Fetty. Look, that little sawed-off son of a bitch. Laughing his ass off. But he is a great guy all around. He's just genuine, just open.
Starting point is 00:18:37 He'll tell you anything. You take a picture, sign an autograph. Looks like he likes to pass along a lot of knowledge to the younger guys. Exactly, exactly. I don't know. I can't really say that I got it from him, but we're like-minded where I get off more sharing my knowledge to other guys, even older, younger.
Starting point is 00:19:00 I feel like I get more gratitude out of that than whatever I can do on the fucking platform. And he is the same exact way. But being around him, I love it. He is a laugh a minute. It's hysterical. He breaks my balls all the time. It's pretty funny. Yeah, he's a good shooter. And then it's like, he's Ed Cohen, so you just
Starting point is 00:19:17 gotta pick him. Exactly. My sponsor, J Boss, they're identical. They're both 5'4", or whatever fuck-tiny-ass they are. It's so funny because they both go at each other about their height, and then nobody can really say anything else. It's so good. I love it.
Starting point is 00:19:36 Wow. With Boss, we were getting out some shirts here after this eating contest, and he's like, I'm going to need a 3XL. And he's not tall. No. And he's like, I'm going to need a 3XL. And he's not tall. No. And I was like, that is a thick motherfucker. 3XL. Holy shit.
Starting point is 00:19:52 Two inches short, he'd be perfectly round. I tell him that all the time. All the time. He's good shit. So how did you first meet those guys? They came to meet. I know they sponsored a bunch of guys they were in the gym there in uh iowa city and they've been picking up like silas shipper and
Starting point is 00:20:11 tim hoffman and a couple other guys to you know rep their brand that was for jb boss flex nation this was years ago and i remember seeing it and like i look back on like pictures on my instagram and they were liking like my first pictures on Instagram before I was even powerlifting. They were liking dog pictures and shit way back in the day. But my first powerlifting was me two years ago. I was just getting back into the swing of things. And they were there, and they were like, hey, you're really strong. And I was like, 880 squat, 470 bench, and like a 790 dead.
Starting point is 00:20:48 I was just getting back in the groove of things. Like, it's how I do it. Six months off and then cycle myself into peak and just take it off from there and then take another six months off. But they were like, we'd really love for you to rep our brand. You seem like a great guy. And things just take off from there. It's been two years this
Starting point is 00:21:06 october so yeah then now we meet up every every weekend i'm home we're just great guys good to be around what about uh in in general just the the arnold experience what is that like all the all the chaos the the big huge clusteruck that the expo is. I mean, it sucks for just like walking around. It must have to really suck for you to stop every so often. Yeah. Saturday was worse.
Starting point is 00:21:36 Oh, it was a nightmare. I love... And nobody wanted to talk to us, and it was awful, so I couldn't imagine being in that place while people are... You know what I mean? Like while people are trying to talk to you, being in there. Because what we saw, you left the cage, and you had wrapped up. Things had kind of died down around the cage, and as soon as Dan leaves the cage, it's a total fucking – it's crazy.
Starting point is 00:22:02 And it's not that it's probably a bad thing. A lot of people just wanted to say hi, tell you things, take a picture, whatever. it's a total fucking, it's crazy. And it's not that it's probably a bad thing. Right. A lot of people just wanted to say, hi, tell you things, take a picture, whatever. And,
Starting point is 00:22:09 and I suppose in your daily life, like anybody that's a, that's a power lifter, like you don't go to work and have people ask for your autograph or a picture. Fucking Dan again. Lazy bastard. Always on his damn phone.
Starting point is 00:22:28 Looking up Instagram clips of Andre Squatman. I don't care how many people follow you, Dan. Right, no. Does that ever feel weird, though? Like someone coming up to you and does that just get normal to you after a while with something like Arnold? At first it was really surreal. I'm like, you want to take a picture with me? What for?
Starting point is 00:22:47 Fucks your problem. Give me what you're smoking. If you're going to do it, pass it. No, it's cool now. Now it's a lot easier to accept. But last year was really the first year that it hit me. This year, I've got like ten pictures pictures on, 10 pictures and, you know, guys saying, hey, how's it going, Friday, and then 110 on Saturday.
Starting point is 00:23:11 Yeah. Just like, Jesus. That Saturday, I walked out of the cage, and I had a family member show up. My cousins live a couple hours south of here. They showed up. So, of course, I mean, family, I went straight to them, and I'm on my way to them, and it took literally 10 minutes and I was like it's great to see you thank you know yeah no problem I know I did good and then I get to my family you were talking and
Starting point is 00:23:33 everything and like trying to have a conversation with them thank them talk about what they're doing tonight you know it's not family I get to see you all the time when I'm eight hours away and then here comes 45 other people and they're just being rude as shit and I'm like You have teeth in your mouth. Is Dan Bell going to have to choke somewhere? But yeah, it is.
Starting point is 00:24:02 That's the only thing that bugs me. It's pretty overwhelming at times, but it's kind of nice to get back to your own life on Tuesday. You know, we've kind of thought about this a little bit too, is as people that do train occupy such a small percentage of, like, the people in the world, let alone people that train the way you do or the way some of us guys do. the world, let alone people that train the way you do or the way some of us guys do.
Starting point is 00:24:32 But we kind of think that the general consensus among us is once you can squat a thousand pounds, even once, you probably shouldn't have to work a day job. Like, isn't that like, aren't there countries where like the golden rule? Well, like, like, like if you get like an Olympic gold medal, like, you know what? We're going to put you up in a nice condo. We'll give you a little stipend forever. And, you know, we'll take care of you medically and stuff. And you can do whatever else you want after that. Is it strange going to from a place like this where it's just total chaos
Starting point is 00:24:59 and people wanting to see you and coming to see you and assholes from the middle of nowhere, dragging you to some weird, from some weird, weird little rapey house. I felt at home. I saw that plastic sheet on the mattress. I was like, I am honey.
Starting point is 00:25:16 I'm home. Well, I actually, something funny about that, uh, earlier before we're leaving, uh leaving for the Arnold today or whatever, or actually to go eat supper tonight, like, fuck, maybe we should clean up a little bit
Starting point is 00:25:31 if we're going to have Dan come over and stuff. So Shane over there, that's where he's sleeping. They make up his bed all pretty like this just because you're coming over on his air mattress. The bed actually does have like a little zebra blanket kind of folded on the bottom and a couple useless decorative pillows on it. So are you impressed by that? Yeah, of course.
Starting point is 00:25:54 Can't wait to mess that up. Boy. I have stuff going on. Iron that hair since you walked in the booth. Curl the suit. I love you. But I got to catch my airplane. I'm flying out tonight, I guess.
Starting point is 00:26:16 I'm going to run out the back. But what is that like then going from this to a regular day job where you do have to to work and you travel quite a bit too is that correct yeah all the time i'm constantly going so to come from a place where it's like weird i'm semi-famous and kind of a niche way to like staying at a goddamn motel six going to work and having to work with a bunch of assholes you don't give a fuck about what you do oh exactly yeah yeah what what are the people at your day job think about you or what you do they're cool they they there's a lot of them that respect it it's it's pretty cool have those guys respect it the way they do a lot of them cheer me on uh my my asshole boss he knows he fucking just pisses me off but he's like i'll be at your next
Starting point is 00:27:01 meet i'm gonna cheer you on front stage call call you the least bastard. I know you are. He's super cool about it. He thinks it's pretty neat. He enjoys it, respects it, I guess you can say, to a certain extent. Even if I could, like you were saying, take this and quit my day job, I really don't think I would. Really? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:23 It's in my blood. It's what I've done. I had a real tough time when i first started powerlifting i was laid off and i was just collecting unemployment and like i'm kind of strong all i need is me and then went from there still drawing unemployment was working like kind of part-time at the local gym training some people here and there no certifications i didn't really i mean have a clue what I was doing I just knew how to get strong and I had a really really hard time finding a balance between having a personal life and being the damn belt powerlifter and now these last year and a half I've had a really
Starting point is 00:28:02 I've done a really good job I think think, in my eyes of keeping that balance. So the more I do take a step back from powerlifting and the beautiful limelight, you want to call it, I guess, it's good for me. I think it is good for me. And I've always been that blue-collar guy where 50 hours a week, don't bother me, let's go some more. Or, you guys want to do this on the weekend? Or what's your uncle doing down the street? Putting shingles on by himself. You know, stuff like that.
Starting point is 00:28:30 It's just, that's how I was raised. So what's, like, your training split look like on a given week? Oh, Monday's accessories. Usually, it depends on how far we're out, but Tuesday will be leg accessories. Thursday's bench. Saturday's either heavy squat or heavy dead. Usually.
Starting point is 00:28:49 I mix it up every once in a while. Sometimes in the off season I'll take one day out or sometimes when I get close to me I'll take a day out. Or if I got a shitty fucking Tuesday, I'll go deadlift out of that day. You know, if you've got that kind of regression, you can use it. So you don't want to do, like, go bench three days a week or four days a week or something, try to get your bench up. I wish I could.
Starting point is 00:29:15 75-year-old shoulders, it feels like. What about some injuries? I mean, have you had any trouble as far as with, you know, the injury bug or anything like that that's caught up with you? Or have you been pretty fortunate? I've been really, really lucky. Partial tears in my bicep tendons twice. But that was just from squatting.
Starting point is 00:29:38 My low bar is clear back here. Now IT bands, tore them. Just partial. So, I mean mean it was nothing too serious a little blood. Is that from squatting too? Yeah, yeah. I was so narrow. I was a lot more narrow than I am now. Even that they just throw my knees out as fast as I could try to hit the hole and just tore that backside of it. So I was big old bloody ass. I got raped or something. It was really, really creepy. You should have seen the size of that guy. John, he was very nice.
Starting point is 00:30:15 Pretty mouth, just like Sandy over here. Oh, that's creepy. Definitely good squatter, good power power lift and everything like that but your wife earlier was actually telling us uh that you're a hell of a insanity workout man oh i wish it was fun i had a great great time with that i did that way back in the day it was fun it was entertaining really challenged me first time sucked second time sucked third time sucked what were you doing what's what was the story on that what were you doing it for what was the goal there yeah i was i was actually graduate high school heavy it was 390 or 360 and then 2007 i was like 390 and then i was like trying to just make better changes in my life and uh wanted to join the
Starting point is 00:31:05 marine car before I turned 29 and I'm like hey I got a goal let's do this and uh dropped dropped 90 pounds real fast I was almost 400 dropped 90 pounds real fast like oh they went in to talk to the guys like you get down to 240 we can talk some more great this is gonna be awesome i got no problem with it that next 60 was hell it's the fucking worst ever so then um i finally made it and i and it was met another dream because arnold he was 62240 so i'm like oh matched up with right yeah fucking 62240 what's up now guys you know yeah looked nothing like arnold my legs were way bigger but yeah and then went into the office they're like well we'd really like to get down to 215 and i was like four months away from being 30 and i like or 29 and i was like no i'm good
Starting point is 00:32:00 i think it was 27 my bad yeah it was 27 either way yeah i was like no thanks i'm done with this that's why i took off powerlifting like about a couple months afterwards it's in the gym doing dumb shit and my buddy's like you're kind of strong let's go to a meet i'm like no it's never pulled over four or five without straps i have no idea what i'm doing look where that got you right no shit was now originally you had mentioned earlier that you had done kind of just some maybe like without a whole lot of intention just bodybuilding training and that type of stuff right oh yeah and did you just get i mean i would say that you are definitely elite level strong at this point.
Starting point is 00:32:47 Like, did you take to strength pretty naturally? Like, did you just get strong really fast? Did you ever wonder, like, why isn't anyone else getting strong? Why do they only use, like, one plate when I have seven? You know what I mean? Like, having not trained as a power lifter as you're going through, did you just, were you wondering why am I stronger than all these people? High school, I was like 18, and I did an APF meet. I never deadlifted in my entire life.
Starting point is 00:33:18 I squatted like 560, and then I benched 390, and then I went against Ernie Jr., and I was deadlifting, and I was like, okay, well, I was like, we're supposed to pick the bar up off the ground like that?
Starting point is 00:33:33 Like, I know, this is really strange, so, I bombed the meet, I, yeah, I bombed the meet,
Starting point is 00:33:40 because I had no idea how to deadlift at all. Yeah, I opened the same way as this little guy did, it was Ernie Jr. at the time. was like yeah I probably picked the wrong little guy that right yeah no shit no shit but um ever since then I really had an idea I was strong and I started playing rugby and I just kind of like moved along with my life and uh first push pull i did bench 5 or 425 and i deadlifted 715 and i knew i knew it was decent strength but then i went to went to lunch with the guys that were putting on the meat like meathead i wish you knew what you had the potential for like what do you
Starting point is 00:34:20 mean uh give me another beer. It's a typical dude. And they're like, you were dumb strong. You just haven't owned it yet. I'm like, okay. So we played around with it. Bam, 1906 was my very first official total. I'm the 12th in the country. So it was just like, yeah. I'm like, hey, this is kind of fun.
Starting point is 00:34:43 And there's a lot of girls in yoga pants. Girl. Yes. Speaking of girls in yoga pants, what is going on at the Arnold here with the girls in the yoga pants? What is even happening? How are you squatting with all that walking? God damn it.
Starting point is 00:35:04 And concentration. And why weren't you wearing yoga pants? Yes. pants what is even happening how are you squatting with all that and concentration and why and why weren't you wearing yoga pants you just saw when i took my sink or when i took my shorts off i just had my singlet on everybody's like oh my god it's best but here thank you i know thank you yes yes that is just a meat factor. I had to tape it to my legs. So I don't know how your Megan handles walking around the Arnold, but my Megan does a lot of this. We'll walk around, and she'll see someone in yoga pants,
Starting point is 00:35:41 and then she will immediately look me right in the eyes the entire time and be like, don't you fucking dare. Or what I'll do is I'll quick snake a look and then I'll, like any good man,
Starting point is 00:35:58 immediately look over at my wife to see if she saw. And then if I look over from the butt to my wife and her eyes are where my eyes are, I know I'm fucked. Like I look over,
Starting point is 00:36:10 I look at a butt and I look over and Megan's staring me right in the eyes and I go, I just got fucking caught. Then you gotta tell her and be like,
Starting point is 00:36:16 look at, that's gross. What is she doing? Did you see that bitch's socks? Did you see that bitch's socks? Deadlifts and donuts on us. What does her father think? Just kidding.
Starting point is 00:36:34 She doesn't have a dad. That's why she's here. She has daddy issues. Also, speaking of girls in yoga pants, how many of those that you were hoping getting strong and lifting was going to get you how many chicks in yoga pants
Starting point is 00:36:51 did you think were going to be flocking to you and now you're super disappointed because it's just dudes the only people impressed are guys you got into this for the guys though right I would love for you guys to see my bear collection. It's quite fucking amazing.
Starting point is 00:37:08 That's actually something I wanted to ask you too. We talked about getting goofy stuff in your DMs. Goofy? This isn't goofy. I feel like rape. Do you get a lot of that? Because I've seen like Josh Morrison he shares a lot of that shit. Like Robert Oberst has too.
Starting point is 00:37:24 Do you get a lot of that? Oh yeah, yeah. Like Robert Oberst has, too. Do you get a lot of that? Oh, yeah. Robert Oberst was one of them. What? Oh, yes. I'm totally kidding. Robert Oberst will not stay out of Dan's D-line. How many of those do you think you've gotten messaged before?
Starting point is 00:37:39 Are we talking hundreds? It's a solid four a month, I'm going to say. You said it's a good average. What would you say with this recent Arnold exposure that maybe the percentage this month might jump a little bit? I haven't posted an Instagram video. I haven't posted that. I have not.
Starting point is 00:37:55 I'm trying to look at it. I have not posted an Instagram video. What's with that? What are you saving it? I'm going to wait until Tuesday. Okay. Wait until you're out of town. Yeah, when they all run to Ohioio i'm gonna be in iowa like
Starting point is 00:38:06 no bear factor here so that's the reason i learned that last year i got banging on my bedroom door the hotel door at four in the morning like seriously real dead serious wow So what do they, I mean, I know what that guy wants from you, but when they message you, what are they saying? What do they want you to do?
Starting point is 00:38:31 Nine times out of ten, I just tell them. They send you shit? Yeah, no, they're going to be like, oh, GGG, or can you send me a picture? Can you come give me a bear hug for $50? Jesus. Hey, 50 bucks is $50.
Starting point is 00:38:51 I'm about to crush this dude's ribcage. Everyone needs a part-time job, right? You don't judge me, I'm not judging you. That's fine. But at some point, I guess you just got to draw a line because there's only so many hours in the day to be given bear hugs. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:06 No, nine times out of ten, I just tell them, like, hey, you don't know my Megan. I'm pretty sure she's got your social security number and knows you're out of milk right now. My Megan is like, she is on it. Like, you go ahead. Don't worry about me. You need to worry about her. She's about to rip your hair out and fuck you with your own dick.
Starting point is 00:39:29 That is my Megan. You can talk about the looks you were getting from her about looking at butts. No. I learned the dirty sock trick a while ago. Nope. What butts, babe? I don't know what you're talking about.
Starting point is 00:39:43 It's so lumpy? I don't know what you're talking about. It's so lumpy. I don't know. I learned that a long time ago. My Megan keeps my ass in line. She's a school teacher on top of it, so it doesn't make any better. Yeah. So I act 12 normally, and she knows. She's very familiar with that.
Starting point is 00:40:01 Yes, yes. Knows how to put me in line 24-7. I've never met a woman that handles me the way she does. In and out of bed. Based upon some of our Instagram creeping as well, some of our only research that we can possibly do, basically,
Starting point is 00:40:18 your Megan has done, does a fair amount of CrossFit, or has done in the past. Yeah. Did she ever drag you into any of that nope none at all no way kicking and screaming no no like to keep that heart rate down yeah exactly not happening i'll sit here and eat my donuts and watch you go ahead girl no she's tried and i've actually uh helped some of her trainers that wanted to cross over into powerlifting that's been a good experience and a lot of them like like, hey, come in for a class.
Starting point is 00:40:45 I'm like, ha, ha, ha. You have four people over there I'm the same size of. No, this is not happening. I really want to. Of course I want to. It would be a great thing. You know how much food you'd have to eat to stay strong and do CrossFit? No shit.
Starting point is 00:41:04 At your weight, you know what I mean? Right, yeah, yeah. I'm going to guess you'd have to eat to stay strong and do CrossFit at your weight? I'm going to guess that you try pretty hard to be eating food. What did you say you're at now? 370? Yeah, I'm comfortable at 370. What does your daily normal day of eating
Starting point is 00:41:18 kind of look like? On the road, it's tough. You know what I mean? I do 9 times out of ten try to make smarter decisions I guess you can say and like I said
Starting point is 00:41:30 earlier company I worked for fucked up they were paying for all our food so it's pretty pretty great learn their lesson
Starting point is 00:41:38 it's pretty great we start out in the morning I'll go to the hotel breakfast and get as much oatmeal as I can, peanut butter, and a couple cups of coffee if I can. If not, you know, monster, sugar freak, because I'm watching my figure.
Starting point is 00:41:55 And then lunch rolls around, and nine times out of ten, it's a fast food place. But I'm pretty smart about it, like I said. Go with the grilled or crispy chicken and just get two of them, slide the chicken inside the next one, throw out one bun, eat the fries and go back to work. Sometimes we don't even have time for that. I mean,
Starting point is 00:42:15 it's, and then dinner rolls around and we usually eat a pretty good dinner, but there's a lot of times where I'll be like, Hey boss, I'm waking up three times a night. I need fucking snacks. Like, give me the car. Give me the car and I'm going to the gas station.
Starting point is 00:42:28 I'll go buy protein bars. I'll go to Walmart and stuff like that. And, like, just load up one of my drawers in my hotel room. Because usually, like, we're there for two weeks. And I'll just load up a whole snack drawer and take care of myself. There's times I take protein powder with me and mix it up and just do that every once in a while whenever I need something like that. That's about it. I mean, it's nothing spectacular.
Starting point is 00:42:48 I don't have any special calibration of it. And I suppose, like, you know, in essentially the super heavyweight game, I mean, it's not like you have to be dialed into a tee. It really is just a matter of maintaining the quantity don't fuck yourself and just keep the quantity high enough you don't have to worry about going overboard because you can always adjust that
Starting point is 00:43:16 you go overboard for a week or two oh yeah it's easy because if you were to just default to what's easy you would just probably lose some weight you'd just lose weight if you weren't trying hard. Yeah, I've done it. Like now I get mozzarella sticks with everything. No.
Starting point is 00:43:34 No. I've went to where I went back to what was normal for me food-wise. It's cleaner. And whenever I got around to eating when I was hungry if I would eat only when I was hungry I'm 340 the next week it's pretty bad
Starting point is 00:43:52 but now it's getting a lot easier to maintain it it seems to be working too because it's not like you're the weakest you've ever been you are at a point where you've been trending upward for a while now.
Starting point is 00:44:07 You haven't had any... You're as strong as you've ever been. That was another thing I've always said since I quit going to the 308 class. Is there going to be a point when you stop wanting to get bigger? No. As long as I know what I'm eating is good food
Starting point is 00:44:23 and as long as my strength goes along with my body weight, I don't care. As long as i know what i'm eating is good food as long as my strength goes along with my body weight i'll i don't i don't care as long as i feel good like i said to you earlier i feel good at 370 this is okay to me at 380 i got a problem sleeping i got a problem tying my fucking shoes like i don't know what the difference is between that 10 pounds but i know i don't like it so i'll sit here at 370 as long as i can or even drop if my strength keeps going up yeah and i suppose you know if your strength goes up and you go from 370 to 380 and that level of comfort is still there right then you're fine but there's no point in being fucking miserable yeah exactly exactly that's not fun yeah what about uh what is i would say your single greatest like moment in your powerlifting career what was like the most powerful moment
Starting point is 00:45:14 whether it's in in competition and training or anything like that well first thousand mile squat that was easily that was that was just a month ago. That was easily one of the best moments for me because I chased it for two and a half years. I knew that's what I'd said since I started powerlifting. I just want to squat a grand. Two years ago, or last year when I got raised world record for two weeks. Fucker. Well, that was pretty good.
Starting point is 00:45:46 That was a shot from the hip. I signed up for that meet on a whim. And it never hit anything over 900 in sleeves. And I went from 904 to 942 just to chip it. See, if it was there, it was there. If it wasn't, I didn't care. I like feeling one with third tips. I know that makes me human.
Starting point is 00:46:02 You know? That's the way I look at that. And shot from the hip. Smoked it. with third tips i know that makes me human you know that's the way i look at that and uh shot from the hip smoked it i didn't smoke it i mean it was a fucking grinder but it went through and had it like i said and that was pretty good too um yeah those got to be the top for me but what's next is what's always in my head you know what's next yeah well i i would say going from a landmark thousand pound squat to a thousand for double is quite a bit of fucking step a big deal when that's something like that yeah i think it's interesting you know like all of us say if we're squatting 400 pounds or 500 pounds or 600 pounds or whatever it is you can look at say you hit a new milestone
Starting point is 00:46:44 and you think okay i'm there now but then you watch out there and there's you know 50 guys you follow that out to you that are at the next hundred so we got people to look at and be like all right i know they can do it i i want to shoot for that next level now but like if you're squatting a thousand pounds for a double like who do you yeah what do you who do you yeah i mean i suppose you just watch andre you have one person you can watch you can look at andre milanichev and be like well you can squat a couple more pounds than me you know he's squatted a couple more pounds than me before like you know what i'm saying like that's kind of kind of a harder thing like you you got to be kind of the trend center or out in front of a lot of people when you're doing that. It is true. You've got J.P. Price also.
Starting point is 00:47:28 He's fucking right there. He's a fucking stud. Walks out and buries it every fucking time. Like a real asshole. Trying to make questions. And then he gets a 630 bench on top of it. I'm like, thank God your fat ass can't deadlift.
Starting point is 00:47:46 I pray to God every day. Don't let him find a deadlift. But no, that's another thing that's been going with me. Eric, I've changed Eric for a while. Actually, last year in April, Eric and I were both doing that meat and sleeves. Eric Lillibridge. Right, yeah. We were both doing that meet and sleeves. Eric Lillibridge. Right, yeah. We were both doing that meet and sleeves. And he only, I think he got like a 904 squat on his second attempt and failed.
Starting point is 00:48:14 He was supposed to go 950. He got 920, and I got 942. And then we went to bench, and he got 541, and I got 524. So we were tied after. And, of course, Eric, being the 25-year-old that he is, comes up. He's like, oh, we're tied, dude. I'm like, I don't fucking care. You're going to pull 900, you cocksucker.
Starting point is 00:48:38 I'm not fucking stupid. Cool. Great. Cool. Great. Awesome. Being tied after squatting bench doesn't do you a lot of good. Yeah, so me being the dickhead I am, I wouldn't change
Starting point is 00:48:56 my opener the same as his. So it's pretty funny. We're both standing up. He asked me before, where are you opening for dads? I was like, 750. I want to get it. And then I was like, I'll go 804 on my second and play around with my third. He's like, cool, cool. And then after bench, he came over and did that to me.
Starting point is 00:49:13 So I'm like, hmm, all right. Fuck you, dude. I went straight up to the meet director. I'm like, hey, I need to change my opener, same as Eric's. So we get up on the stage. He's like, you mother. Yeah, you're goddamn right. So we get up on the stage, he's like, you train, you train, you mother, yeah, you're goddamn right! We were tied, remember?
Starting point is 00:49:29 You son of a bitch. Trying to stay tied. Oh, yeah. I think his second attempt was 8.54, and I failed 8.37 twice, because 8.37 one gave me the world record total at the time. So I went from 804 to 837
Starting point is 00:49:46 I failed it twice just grip problems and I was fucking cashed that's usually what happens to me but yeah Eric's a good one, JP Price I, it was two years, no JP Price had 975
Starting point is 00:50:01 squat and that was like number two in the country. So I went 981, and I was like, okay, now I'm number two in the country. J.P. Price went 1003 at UBS Open, so I went 1008 last month. We're always going back and forth there, so that's fun. I'm not interested in what he's going to do next. I don't know. It would be fucking just amazing because the guy, I want to hate him.
Starting point is 00:50:25 I want to hate him so bad. Would you just be a dick or something? He is such a nice motherfucker. I'm like, dude, be an asshole. Say something bad to him. Yeah, right. Yeah, piss me off, please. But I can't.
Starting point is 00:50:39 He's too nice, too great of a guy. He's just genuine, all-around good dude. And he does have a great standard for powerlifting, too. I do appreciate what he's doing. But he's a really great guy and a good powerlifter. Did you look at doing the U.S. Open at all? Walking shit out? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:56 Get me out. No, no. That's where you draw the line. It still scares the shit out of me. Yeah. Put 1,000 pounds on your back and go for a stroll. Right. In reverse.
Starting point is 00:51:06 And so, Dan, what is that, you know, the walking out? Do you think that's an issue mainly because you just have such a high level of strength with what you can squat that then having to walk it out becomes really problematic? Yeah. The risk is just so high. And is it worth it? Yeah. You know? problematic yeah that the risk is just so high is it and is it worth it yeah you know like there's
Starting point is 00:51:26 plenty of awesome shit to be done without wandering out around a thousand pounds exactly right yeah exactly yeah oh i've done 945 i mean that was cool uh the magic troll leader as i like to call him, Mr. Cone. You heard it. He's like, oh, walking out in wraps is easier. I don't care. He's like, well, if I'm going to coach, you're going to have to walk it out. I'm like, God, why me? But, I mean, who knows? A lot can change in time.
Starting point is 00:52:05 It just, Brandon, Ed, Kurt, and Goggins, just all of them, all the guys that I watched so many times over and over again, just the pop, it scares the fuck out of me. I've seen it. Just thinking about it even just curls my skin. I don't want that to happen to me. Nine times out of ten, it was because of the walkout. Like Brandon Lilly, he just did a meet. Didn't he pull, like he's finally back to where he is. He did a push-p a meet didn't he pull
Starting point is 00:52:25 like he's finally back to where he is he did a push pull didn't he this weekend yeah he did I think even pressed and pulled
Starting point is 00:52:32 the PR it looked like Russia yeah it was a PR at a stupid low body weight skinny little bastard
Starting point is 00:52:39 like 304 it's all that it's all that crossfit Brandon Lilly yeah that's right brandon hooked me up with my first epap so i can't really bitch about that we've actually we've actually talked about that earlier tonight too you know with because i i have a machine that i struggle to use but no i desperately need to use ross is in the same situation tanner's my test here tanner's going to get his done and uh i seen on brandon milley's facebook one time he's like i'm telling all my
Starting point is 00:53:11 fucking powerlifting buddies they're gonna get one they're not gonna argue with me about it you know i think he was really serious as one to what it what it can help you with from a strength standpoint and two with what what all of us are really risking by not having oh your sleep in check and for you how long have you been using yours i don't know it's in the mail it's oh yeah you haven't started right yeah i got it it's supposed to be well i paid the guy an extra 25 bucks i have it there but i was like i'm leaving wednesday give me get it here by by wednesday he's like oh yeah no problem not there like whatever i got time for you so yeah so i've been waiting all weekend to get home and try that fucker on yeah well if it's anything like mine
Starting point is 00:53:52 it's going to not help you sleep for a while it's gonna make it a lot it's gonna get worse before it gets better yeah i've heard that but uh but yeah i think you know i think brandon's really on to something with that too I mean they say like anybody with a neck over like 18, 17 or 18 inches is like pushing it and your neck Dan if I'm guessing I'm not a math expert but from right here I'm guessing
Starting point is 00:54:15 more than 17 I don't know it's been a 14 at least since third grade it might be easily the size of my wife's waist. Give me that belt. Your bow tie. Cookie monster.
Starting point is 00:54:36 Actually, you know what? We've got just a few minutes left here. Is there anything else you guys wanted to get out here? I'm going to give you a little time to let you know we're going to wrap up. But I noticed you were at Donnie Thompson's booth here at the Spud Inc. booth. Talk to me about his body tempering and what that was like. Oh, it's life-changing. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:53 Yeah, completely. He just releases everything. I felt wrecked. Is it Donnie's touch that makes it so special? His weird thrusts? He just lubes his thumb. Actually special for me. I don't know what it is no donnie i've known donnie for a couple years now i'll call him super d for now super d light now super d
Starting point is 00:55:15 light now i think he got he might have got his balls back or something i don't really know where the light came no donnie's a great dude and what he's done for the support of powerlifting alone has just been amazing with his ingenuity and things that he's created. The ex-wife, I don't think my body would be the same if it wasn't for that thing. I won at the gym at home, and every chance I get, I try to makeshift something when i'm on the road to just get a little release out of some of my muscles yeah just have someone park a car on your
Starting point is 00:55:50 back hey bring that camera over here yeah and and how i guess how does a guy feel the morning after squatting a thousand pounds for two? Diggity dog shit? Yeah, I don't... The party in Tel 4 this last morning, I didn't help me too much. I was literally doing the... I was doing the Macarena Tel 4 15. It was good.
Starting point is 00:56:18 Then we ordered pizza and we just laughed and fucking passed out. I actually slept in a chair last night. I don't even know. I woke up this morning, I had a Coors Light in one hand and a piece of pizza in my other hand. I'm like,
Starting point is 00:56:29 that was a fucking good night, guys. Went to get out of the chair and my ab cramped. I'm like, yep, I'm staying right here. Oh, no, I felt, yeah, it was horrible. I don't get that sore. Like, even after meets,
Starting point is 00:56:43 I don't get tore up like Even after meets, I don't get tore up that bad. This morning was bad. The heavier reps usually get me pretty good. Heavier singles? Not too shabby. Nothing. I did powerlifting meet last June on a whim, not peaked at all. It felt great the next day.
Starting point is 00:57:00 The next weekend, I went and did a strongman competition. Oh, I saw that that fuck me running dude an hour after that thing i felt like i was 94 years old we were walking out of the restaurant i was like did somebody do something to my asshole this fucking hurts this is horrible oh i'll leave that strongman stuff to you whoever else wants to do it because it's not me i think it's them it's like the heavy holds and carries that are just fuck that that strongman stuff to you. Whoever else wants to do it because it's not me. I think it's the heavy holds and carries. That's the stuff that just fucks you up for a long time. I don't know if you saw the 800-pound yoke walk.
Starting point is 00:57:34 Look like a fucking baby deer. It was so stupid. When you do something like that too, do you think the whole time, especially when you know you're just maybe a little out of your element too are you just like i am risking everything right now it's some wonky ass fucking wandering around with you because the guy that is concerned about walking out right no i totally just like running around with my weight on your back what the fuck am i doing right now really i mean like i, like I said, I did the meet I did before. I wasn't peaked, and I really had no concern.
Starting point is 00:58:09 I did that meet because Megan was doing it. And then the strongman thing was all my buddies were doing it. And I'm just like, okay, fuck it. Who cares? I do good. I better beat these motherfuckers. Actually, I got second. Tyler Cotton. He's a strong son of a bitch
Starting point is 00:58:28 uh i think he's from north dakota i don't know anyway dakota we don't like that one that that's like the worst of the dakotas i knew that that's why i said that he was from there mostly canada hey but But yeah, he actually beat me, and he knew what he was doing, and he actually trained for it. I'll leave it to you. You guys can have that. That's not for me.
Starting point is 00:58:57 No, I don't worry about shit like that. No, I still, if I cut it, yeah, I'd still play ice hockey. I'd still play beer league, slow pitch, softball. I'd still go snowboarding as much as I can all the time. I saw that. That is terrifying to me.
Starting point is 00:59:13 Is that crazy to you? That's not crazy to you? No. I think I've never been snowboarding or skiing, and I fucking have been asked lots of times. I was like, I just know the way that physics works and that I'm a 300-pound man. Right.
Starting point is 00:59:29 And I'm just doing the math. I was like, how much faster could I get going than the average person with the skill of a fucking child? Yeah. It would be so dangerous for me to do that. Have you done that for a long time? All my life. Okay.
Starting point is 00:59:46 Yeah. See, I used to do some snowboarding, and that was when I weighed like 160, and now at like 220, I think. That's probably the upper limit for what anyone should weigh snowboarding. So not anymore, I guess. Now I know I got tons of room to grow into it. You're good. Yeah, you're good. There's a lot of people.
Starting point is 01:00:00 I get that from a lot of guys who are on the list. They're like, you are the biggest, most grateful motherfucker I've seen. Wow. I'm like, you just did a backflip. Is that Sean White? Oh, that's awesome. My board usually doesn't leave the ground. I have a timer 10, and that was a bad choice there, too.
Starting point is 01:00:20 But no, it doesn't. I just do it for the fun, and you'd really be surprised how much your your leg leg burn off of it but it's because the different muscles and all over through that played on ice hockey too i mean that that was another leg stimulation so so my legs are pretty well developed i'd say but no i've done it since I think it was about seven years old. It's awesome. Was there anything else you wanted to get in, guys? We're about out of our hour.
Starting point is 01:00:51 We could probably ask you questions until next Arnold, but we probably better let you go sometime here. This house is fucking nice, and the rape fucking sheet over there. We got it all set up. As long as you guys keep the Coors coming, we're alright. Let's do this. We did have to promise your girlfriend that we'd get you home tonight. That's the kicker there.
Starting point is 01:01:08 She'll get over it. Well, I think that'll do it for us today, guys. We're going to talk about JB Boss or anything else? Yeah, I'd like you to make sure we plug some JB Boss. Yeah, definitely plug JB Boss. What's the website people can check out they're actually coming out with it next week they're following
Starting point is 01:01:27 what I want you to do then in the meantime is google JB Boss and they're also on Instagram check out JB Boss on Instagram Dan how can people get a hold of you on the Instagrams I believe my Instagram is dbill underscore 74
Starting point is 01:01:44 that sounds exactly right. I was going to look it up, but between the GoPro and my microphone, my hands are occupied. That's where you can find Dan. If you have any super weird requests for him,
Starting point is 01:02:00 definitely just send them to us instead and we'll forward them to him. Anything you want Dan to do that's maybe a little R-rated or worse, send it to Tanner at Massanomics on Instagram. Opening that door.
Starting point is 01:02:15 We're going to screen all the DMs for you. For sure. Open that door for yourself. You guys don't know what you're getting yourself into. And as far as we go, make sure you go to massanomics.com. There you're going to find our store. Click the Shop Now button.

Starting point is 01:02:53 We don't even put these outside. This is just for us. We have the plane ride tomorrow. These microphones aren't cooked up. He's just been watching porn on his computer the entire time. I knew he had a hard on. I knew it. I fucking knew it. One of them weird 8th grade boners.
Starting point is 01:03:14 Sitting there squeezing his legs. It's nasty candy. It's just so hard it hurts. Oh, fuck. Best thing about it is if we do put this on of course we'll all share and do whatever
Starting point is 01:03:28 my mother will watch the shit all of our moms watch the shit right here my mom watches the show every week yeah that's actually
Starting point is 01:03:38 the weirdest part is that my mom has watched this whole thing so whatever you don't have to think about that that's mostly her fault.
Starting point is 01:03:47 My mom can take a trip to South Dakota and watch it with you guys. Drink tea and shoot Jack or whatever else they need to do. Anyway, you can find us. Let's see, what did I cover? I covered the website and the store and the pornography that I promise

There's also a Twitter feed that we basically just aggregate Instagram content to. It's getting a little old for me. It's not fun. It's too much nonsense. No, it's not fun at all.
Starting point is 01:04:20 What else do we have out there? Also, iTunes, please leave us a five-star review. We are on the road and traveling, so we're not going to read you any of the reviews, but we will read them when we get back. We're just going to assume there's a lot of awesome stuff for us to catch up on. I just assume, yeah, we're going to get back. Probably got hundreds to go through. Literally ones or twos.
Starting point is 01:04:41 Four and it's the same guy. He was dumb enough to... But I think that'll do it for us today, guys. Dan Bell is... What is it on Instagram again? Dbell underscore 74. Tanner's at Massanomics. I'm Tyler.
Starting point is 01:04:57 That's Tyler... That's at Tyler EFFINSTONE. That's Tyler FNSTONE. Ross? You can find me at roscoe2828. And Tommy? Tomahawk underscore D. Alright, and is that a little D or a big D? That's a big
Starting point is 01:05:12 D. It's a big D. Super D. Actually, I don't think it actually is a little D. Technically, I don't know if capitalization matters, but we mean it as a big D. We can fix that. Yeah, yeah. but we mean it as a big D.
