What's up, everyone, episode 542 of the Massonomics podcast,
the lifting podcast about nothing recorded live.
from the corners of the Dakotas.
My name is Tanner and my name is Tommy.
542.
We're bringing a guest on.
Last week we had about 20 of our closest guests.
This week we decided 20's too many.
We're going down to one.
We're going to see if we can manage one a little bit more efficiently than 20.
20 was quite the rodeo, but we survived.
Just barely.
Yeah.
So before we get into two months,
much more of that. I got an important announcement here.
I hope everyone's seated for this one. I know I am.
Our newest sponsor of the podcast, this just in.
newest sponsor, EliteFTS.com.
We just got off the phone with Dave Tate.
He said, I want to sponsor you guys.
I, Dave Tate EliteFTS.com, want to now sponsor the Massonomics podcast.
We said, you know what?
We wouldn't normally take a new sponsor like this, but Dave, for you, we're going to go
head and do it. We talked to management.
They said they're greenlighting the project. You're on.
We have a pretty good feeling about this one.
Yeah. And beyond that, you have just a couple days left of the end of summer sale.
If the end of summer sale is almost over, I feel like that means summer's over.
Because once the end of the summer sale is over, then summer's over, right?
That's how I keep track of my seasons is whatever a leader to us, the seasonal,
Their sale, whatever season will sell.
I don't have any clue what time of the year it is.
So end of summer sale, 30% off bands, 30% off apparel, 20% off the elite FTS,
squat box, and 10% off equipment.
In addition to that, you can use discount code mass 10 and save 10%.
Thank you, Elite FTS, our newest sponsor.
This episode is also brought to you by Juggernaut AI.
Huge announcement.
Juggernaut AI.
version three is here.
I've been a long time
juggernaut user. I think it's safe
to say this is the biggest
update to the app that I've
ever seen. visually, for
sure, it is a total overhaul,
but we got new readiness scores.
We got new dashboards for viewing
your days completed
on any given month. Your sleep, your weight,
your full program view,
max numbers. They're all
right there on the dashboard.
It's a huge change. I mean, I'm just
telling you some of the quick ones there.
If you go to the website, they have it all listed out there.
But from what I can tell, the few workouts I've gotten with it, it's all pretty good stuff.
It just makes it easier to have some more of those metrics at your fingertips.
If you'd like to give it a try for yourself, head on over to juggernaut AI.
That is their website, and you can use code masonomics and save 10% on the lifetime of your membership.
It's juggernaut.AI.com.com.
It's juggernot AI.com.com. Thank you, Juggernaut AI.
Wow, a lot of announcements in these weeks, this week's ad reading, wasn't there?
Yes.
Little update for you.
We had a drop the same day that we're recording this where we dropped the red proper country cup,
five shirts that we debuted at home gym con.
We brought back horse stall mat grippers.
We brought back horse stall mat coasters.
We even had a photograph.
Look at this photograph from the Lift Hardly,
VZ Classic Part 4.
I think that's just about everything.
And the proper country
32 ounce cup,
if you're heading it over to the site now
when you're listening to this to grab it, you're too late.
It actually sold out in 66
minutes this time.
We had a bunch of, it's, we're not like
ordering none of these
and just trying to have them sell out really fast.
We keep getting a lot of them.
And everyone loves the proper country cup.
So it's been reordered. We're getting more again.
We're going to give it one more go here.
The thing that makes it a challenge is when people really like a T-shirt, they'll get one, maybe two.
When people really like a red cup, they'll get like five, six or seven of them.
And it makes it really hard to know how many to order because people are just ordering quantities we're not used to.
Yeah, there was many orders today of four.
A lot of people getting four.
Three is, surprised how many people got three.
Three is obviously an odd number, but it seems like an odd number.
of cups to buy.
But I see a lot of threes.
Yeah.
I don't know how to come to that.
I feel like two or four are acceptable choices.
One, two, and four all seem like acceptable options.
But when people get three, I just wonder what's going on over there.
I don't even want to guess.
I would almost hate to know.
Yeah.
So proper country cup's gone.
The photo is gone.
The Home GymCon license plate is gone.
The icon tea that I'm wearing, there's one left.
one size small left, so it's basically gone.
The blacklifting department in the Bella canvas,
so anyone that doesn't like comfort colors,
you still have an opportunity to get some of those T-shirts.
The Home Gym Nerd T, there's a few of those,
and then the Home GymCon Tee, like there's not a lot of those left.
There was maybe 10, 15 of those left,
so you could possibly snag that.
The Horsdalmat products, though,
I have not sent out the back and stock email notifications on that.
Probably do that here tomorrow and that'll bring another wave.
So I don't know what the long-term outlook on availability on those is.
But you can check it out.
You might be able to get yourself a horse doll mat gripper or a horse stall mat coaster.
Possibly.
And did you see this darko giveaway that's going on?
Yeah.
Have you seen this?
Have you heard about this?
Have you heard about this?
Have you seen this?
I think it's running until the end of August.
And how do you get in?
on the Darko giveaway.
All you have to do.
Actually, I want to make sure people understand.
This is a Darko promotion.
This is something Darko approached us with.
He had a marketing idea for Jim Radar and for his audience.
And so here's the details, Tanner.
Tell me if I miss anything.
Just having an account on Jim Radar, it's the first step.
You have to have an account.
And from there, you add Darko products and you can review Darko products.
and every one of those items that you do gives you a point are an entry.
So if you own 10 darko products, you have 10 entries into the contest.
If you review all 10 of those darko products, you get an additional 10 entries into that
contest for a total of 20 entries.
And what that does is at the end, we are going to go into our super secret dashboards.
We're going to pull a list of everybody that has darko products and get the tally on the number
of products they have, the number of reviews they left.
that'll be the full entry list and we will pick a grand prize winner what do they get tanner
they get 500 gift card from darko lifting you get one of the beyond power of ultra
attachments that straight bar you get a hundred dollar gift card from massanomics and you get a
two hundred dollar gift card from basically like any other company of your choosing that makes
equipment, I think, that Darko is going to provide.
So it's like $1,000 worth of stuff.
About a $1,000 prize package.
And all you got to do is make an account and add some Darko products.
And that is how you get entered.
Do you know what the maximum number of entries someone could submit is?
How many products does Darko have on Jim Radar?
Does he have 30 products on there?
24.
24.
Okay.
Well, so 48 would be the max number, right?
Yep.
So you could get 48 entries maximum if you own.
every single thing that Darko makes and have reviewed it all.
But you do have until, I guess what I would just make sure if you do own any Darko products
and you're already on Jim Radar, just make sure you've claimed them all on there.
Then consider leaving some reviews if you've got anything to say.
And Darko even said too, like they don't have to be five-star reviews.
If you leave a review, he's like, I want honest feedback.
If you leave a review, it counts as an entry.
Yeah.
And love this idea.
This was led by Darko, and I think it's a sweet way to use Jim Radar.
Yeah.
I mean, he basically came to us and said, hey, I have this idea.
Here's what I want to do.
Can you tell me the entry numbers?
And we checked with the development team, and yes, we can provide entry numbers.
So we have the technology.
Just barely, but we do.
And so, yeah, I'm really excited to see what comes to this.
I just wanted to provide one little additional update.
If you remember a couple weeks back, there was a movie I had said I'd really like to watch.
We talked about on the podcast, you actually went to it in the theaters.
It was a somewhat popular movie.
Project Hail Mary?
Project Hail Mary.
I got to watch Project Hail Mary now.
At your house?
Yes.
Oh, okay.
I'm like to, don't tell me there's a theater that still has that.
Okay.
So you want,
it's like free on Amazon at this point.
Oh, all right.
So you watch it.
So what are your thoughts now?
This is,
you're a little removed.
You've had some space to.
Barry removed.
First of all,
it was just great to watch a movie.
I just like,
really enjoyed watching a movie.
What an entertainment form.
So that was cool.
It was the first movie I've watched in my house and I couldn't even possibly say when.
For anyone that's,
not up to date on our story.
I had read the book, loved the book.
The movie I really enjoyed.
It made me remember what you had said about the movie when we,
because you had read the book also.
And like as someone,
if you had never read the book and you watched the movie,
you wouldn't have this opinion.
Actually, I want to start the whole thing over again.
Finally, I get to say, finally.
I get to say, oh, the book is so much better.
The book, the movie, the book is so much better.
I'm better and I read the book and the book is better.
I get to be that guy.
But yeah, if you never had read the book and you watch the movie, you'd be like, oh, great movie.
But having read the book, then watching the movie, there's so many things that I'm like, oh, really just kind of glossing over some.
They just don't provide contact.
I'm not sure even, like, if I didn't know what's, if, like, I know what's going on, but if I didn't
know, I'd be like, well, I wouldn't have even noticed this particular thing that I thought
is a somewhat important pieces of the plot here, or even just like when they make the chain
to go fishing and they drop it down, like all that, I'm like, that just happens so quickly,
like that I feel like that was in the book, that was a major, like, point of the book was how
that all happened.
And here, it's like, boom, chain done, maybe.
But I get it, I got to speed it up.
Like, the movie is already pretty long.
You know, you don't have an extra hour to spend anywhere, but...
Right.
Yeah, I guess that's the battle of the...
That's the movie.
I loved it, though.
Yeah.
Book is better, though.
I was just so happy to finally be the guy that just gets to say the book is better.
I always wanted to be that.
I always wanted to do that.
I read the book first, so the movie's always going to suck balls to me.
That piece of shit movie that I loved.
What do you drink it over there?
We got some polar mandarin.
Oh, all the way from China.
I've got the Waterloo,
Lemon Italian ice all the way from Italia.
Wow, it's pretty exotic.
Yeah, lemon Italian ice.
You know I got that thing on ice.
It's kind of like Lemoncello, isn't it?
No.
A little different.
It's just, let me check.
Actually, let me check.
Yeah, this is a Guy Fiery's flavor. We're a big guy Fiery guy around.
I mean, we've eaten that guy Fierry's in Louisville.
We've bought many of his $13 domestic taps.
No, I wouldn't say it's like the forbidden fruit lemon cello.
It's just more just seems like freaking lemon.
I don't even know what I would say is adding to what's going on.
I would say if you didn't like lemon cello, you might still like.
like this, probably.
All right.
I wouldn't let Lemoncello scare someone off of this,
although Lemoncello is a tasty beverage.
Most polarizing sparkling water, I think that's ever existed.
I think so.
Oh, yeah.
Pretty tasty, though.
All right, what else do we want to pop into this week?
Oh, boy.
Okay, you were talking about watching something.
Yeah.
I also watched something.
Big movie guy over here.
I watch a lot of movies.
Actually, I shouldn't say I watched something.
It was a listen.
But I almost feel guilty even saying this.
And I caught myself actually laughing to myself at multiple points.
Like, why am I doing this?
And I did it.
I did the full thing.
I haven't did a follow up.
And that is, I did listen to the full Solomon critique of Dr.
Mike's aesthetic revolution.
It is an hour and 20 minutes long.
I know this is the bit that this is the joke.
But actually, let me just tell you how far.
am into it.
And I wish there was a way to tell, maybe there is, but how many times I've watched this.
Because I watched this at night to fall asleep.
I actually do.
I'm at the, I'm going to get through this ad here, but I am at the 57 minute mark.
And I bet I've watched it every night since it's come out.
It's how, I don't know how old this is.
Like a couple weeks, though.
I probably watched it at least 10 times.
I mean, I feel like I was playing with fire.
I turned this on on my drive to Aberdeen
because I was kind of cut off my podcast.
I'm like, God, is it safe to listen to this while I'm driving?
Am I just going to fall asleep at the wheel here?
And I've never listened to any of his videos ever.
So I didn't know what I was in for at all.
I had no clue.
I will say this.
What's your takeaways?
Not a good look for Dr. Mike.
No.
One of my favorite stats from the, for people that don't know,
this Sullivan fella,
he does a long,
in-depth critique of Dr. Mike's
aesthetic revolution book.
A new book.
Yeah.
And the main critique of it being that
it appears like it's mostly written by AI.
Entire book is just written by AI.
Which seems to very much be a fact.
Yeah, it does seem to very much be a fact.
One of my favorite stats from it was,
you know, Dr. Mike has been involved in several
other books.
He's published several other books.
one of his first books.
Scientific Principles of Strengthening, Zero M-Dash.
Yeah, zero-M-dashes.
Another book had two M-Dashes,
and it was part of like a number chart of something.
This book, we have, like, how many pages of this book have?
It's like four or 500.
It had like 628 M-Dashes in it, which is a lot.
I love when Solomon's reading off quotes and he reads the M-Dash every time
where he's like, M-Dash.
There's like a 15-minute.
I had to fast-react.
sortics, it's so long of, you know, the, the, um, patterns that AI talks in.
It's not just this.
It's this.
Oh, God.
It's not just this.
It's this.
I mean, that phrase might appear close to 100 times in the book, which is very odd.
It's constant to write like that.
Like he reads all, when he, they read, when he reads all of them, it becomes absolutely
insanity.
And most of those also have an M dash in them.
So it's not just swill, M dash.
It's, it's perseverance, dedication, and something.
Because the rules of three.
And the rule of three is just like, it's just full of every, like, low effort AI.
And then all the infographics also have Google Gemini watermarks on them.
And then there's like people that have four arms as far as like the diagrams go.
There's like paragraphs that are copy pasted and repeated.
So it is, it's a bad look not only for Mike, but it's also a bad look for the publisher that let that go.
Right.
And then he goes into the legal standing.
It also just feels like not only did they obviously use AI to write a large portion of it,
but they didn't just like, I don't know, do that and then fix those.
Like to me, I'm not an AI expert.
And I would say, yeah, we joke about the MDASH thing and the rules of three.
We've done, we've joked about that stuff.
If you just proofread it, I'd be like, yeah, let's remove all these m dashes.
It's very obvious.
And like, let's just cut out some of these rules.
Like, I'm like, this thing we did 700 times.
Can we just do it like 40 times and then people won't know.
Like, I'm not saying this would have been the ethical thing, but you could have like masked that stuff.
And that's what you think the publisher would do.
And then it brings up the other interesting point that Solomon had was the legal standings of, I guess,
AI text can't really be copyrighted because the computer output it, not a person.
And when there's so much of this that is easily verifiable as just AI text,
that there's apparently nothing stopping from someone from just reprinting and republishing
this thing because you can't claim copyright on something that was not human produced.
So that produces a problem or presents a problem.
And that's not even getting into the thesis or the concepts of the book.
I can't believe you didn't fall asleep on the drive pop in that video.
That's my bedtime show.
There was several times.
I'm like 10 minutes in.
just started laughing to myself because I'm like, well, I'm actually experiencing what these are
for the first time. It's so in the weeds. But he, I mean, he did a really good job presenting
the facts. And it was, it was well put together. And then there was a rebuttal video today.
I shouldn't say a rebuttal. A follow-out video from Solomon. That was like 15 minutes
that I had to. I'm like, I'm too invested in this drama. I have to know what's going on at this
point now. And I listen to that. And again, pretty good. It's always, uh, if you go a
read the comments on Solomon's videos.
It's always like, it'll be like, you know, when they tell Bush that a second plane
there's so many of those.
It's like, they'll be like, sir, we don't even know what number plane we're on.
There's a lot of those comments in there.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So you'd never watched a Solomon video before.
I had never watched one before because I'm like, I don't care about this, this internet personality stuff.
and the critiques that people have of it because I'm not invested in it in any way.
But I just, for whatever reason, this one got me and I just couldn't not.
It is also still kind of, I mean, we make a lot of YouTube videos and we try to part of our reputation or success,
if you want to use that word is based around YouTube.
But this idea that, you know, so he makes those couple of videos and they get, I don't know how many hundreds of thousand views are on that.
and then who's that guy that's,
Bromley makes videos.
Then who's that guy that says,
very enormous.
Greg.
Greg, he'll make videos on it.
And I'm not like,
there's a whole industry just based on people making videos about this other guy.
Just pile it off.
Yeah.
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that,
but it's the reaction economy,
isn't it?
You know,
the creator reaction economy.
I mean, I agree.
Like,
We don't play that game because it's just like, ugh.
But also the book apparently does suck because even when these, before these videos came out,
if you go back and look at the reviews on Amazon, they are not good.
And these reviews exist before these videos.
It's not like people were crusading to go leave bad reviews.
These reviews are from like July.
Well, it's not to be surprised that AI didn't write a good book.
Right.
Yeah.
Like, you know, I mean, not surprising.
Yeah, AI writing for you.
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
All right, that's a good update on,
I'll be watching that tonight for about 30 seconds
when we finish the podcast.
Before you just lose all consciousness.
Yeah, I'm like, nothing quite puts me to sleep like that.
All right, that's a good update.
Do we want to do a little supporting our supporting members?
Yes.
This is a relatively new segment of the podcast.
I think this is just the 42nd time we've done it here in season one.
What's up, you know?
Oh, yeah, season two, yeah.
Season two, excuse me, French.
Roll that beautiful bean footage.
Roll that beautiful bean footage.
And you know, when you hear the beautiful bean footage,
that means it's time to support our supporting members.
YouTube can become a supporting member.
It is the number one way still to support Massonomics.
You can support Massonomics in about 50 different.
ways. We'd prefer if you did all of them. But if you're only going to do one,
become a supporting member at massanomics.com slash join. We can shout you out like this week.
Big Mikey Kay was Nevada State Championship powerlifting competition. He did a 628 squat,
384 bench and a 564 deadlift for a 1576. Big old total.
Hell yeah. Big John Kay competed at Beasts of the Bay in Tampa.
There was a Pennsylvania crew meetup.
It was Big Kurt and Big Chris at the newly minted shed gym brotherly barbell.
Big Matt S got third place in his middleweight men's class at GSI Pacific Regional Championship.
There was a crew Matt Canadian meetup.
Matt in the hat and Mabel met up at a commercial gym in British Columbia.
And this week's guest on unpaid and underrated is Big Flea.
Big Florian, also from Canada.
That's Canada Week on supporting our supporting members.
You too could potentially be a guest on unpaid and enderated,
our brady little sister podcast.
All you have to do there is become a supporting member.
Get involved in the community and then you might get interviewed on that show.
Our guest isn't here yet, is he?
He is actually.
Do you want to read an ad?
I'll boot these people and then hold the guest in.
Yeah, we'll do that.
All right.
Okay.
Do you want to be walking around like,
your feet are walking on air.
Well, me too.
That's why I wear barefoot shoes.
You can check them out at barefoot.
Store.
They've got their newest color.
Tommy and I both got a pair of these, actually.
It's called Coyote.
It's like a sand, brown, tan color.
You can get that in Ersus High Top, Ursus Low Top.
Several of their versions have the Coyote color.
I've seen Kurt Locker wearing it.
Several people wearing it on.
online as well.
That's their newest color.
And it seems like they're coming out with a new colorway
almost like every other month at this place.
There's always something new to check out from Barefoot.
Barefoot.
Barefoot.
Store discount code Masonomics will save you 10% on every order.
Thank you, Bearfoot.
Man, Tanner, you were too fast at that.
Oh, was I too fast?
It's like four people.
I got to kick out.
I'm too fast and at the same time also too furious.
I always kind of thought that was your character flaw.
both of those. Yeah, it's not one of them. It's when it's both of them together. That's what
will really get you. And you're too fast and too furious. All right. Should we let her guest in?
Yeah, let them in. Big John, welcome. Are you familiar at all with the Massonomics podcast?
I believe I am a now four-time guest. Four-time. I had to verify myself earlier today. I'm like,
how many times has he been on me? I was pretty, I was pretty sure I'm four. I think does Ed Cohen still have me be,
No, I don't actually know if what,
Tommy, what, what of who have we even had on four times?
The only person that would have actually beat you four times,
the guess is if we've had someone in person four times like from back in the day,
but I don't know.
Yeah.
Like in the modern era, no, I think that,
I think this might be a new world record.
I don't know,
because I remember,
I think on the third time,
you guys said like Ed Cohen had me beat still.
If he was on,
it was only for like,
Two of the times were for maybe like a few minutes.
So it was official.
We're marking it.
You now have the world record.
I'll take it.
Yeah.
It's kind of a big deal.
I'm going to need a plaque to put up a bag.
Oh,
we're going to send you a sword.
Will that work?
I would love a sword.
That's like one of my biggest grapes with pile of tea meats now is that they don't give
out like swords or battle acts.
Have you ever won a sword?
No.
I've never really.
Any weapons?
No, I have never like anything
Throwing stars
Helmet, no
We've given out a lot of weapons as awards
And like we don't even run like big meats
I got one of your meats I go
What do you do with like all your power lifting metals and stuff
The medals I usually just kind of toss
I don't really care too much for the hood
Like whatever
For me I just like the memory of lift
But if I win like a best lifter and it's like a cool trophy, I'll keep that.
Yeah.
So do you have like a little trophy, like a little shrine?
They're kind of like scattered around a little bit.
Some of them are in storage.
Yeah.
So where are you recording at from right now?
Is this Madtown or is this your house?
This is my house.
The basement that I canceled on that you guys were supposed to come visit.
Hey, we're still going to make it happen at some point in time.
You never know when we'll be in.
When we'll be back to Wisconsin.
I see you're sitting in a Hansu combo rack there.
What's the John Hack review on that?
I like it a lot.
I mean, I wouldn't say it's like I'm sponsored by them,
but I would say like for the price,
it's the best kind of what you can get.
Like I don't think there's any other combo rack you're going to beat
and it's well built.
The one thing I would change would be the pad, I think.
I think it's a little bit stiff.
And I like a little softer pad, but.
Yeah, for bank for your buck, it's the best rack, I'd say.
Yeah, Tanner, is that one like this upgraded version of the one you have?
Do you know?
Yeah, because I have a hand, I have a handsu combo, but yours looks different.
Like, it has, like, laser logos and stuff in the corners there.
And mine doesn't have that.
I think what, Tommy, when we toured Brandon Doyle's basement, Jim in Louisville,
I'm pretty sure he has that same one that John has right there.
And I think it's a little bit nicer than the one I have.
Yeah, I think I have the, I think I might have the one that you have.
at Madtown.
Okay.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
Because it's just,
it's similar,
but it's just like a little more simple or something.
Yeah.
Yep.
Okay.
Okay.
So that's actually part of my question.
You are sitting in your home gym right now.
You also train at Madtown too.
Like what,
what's like the percentage split at this point in time?
Like how often do you train there and when are you training at home and when you just,
how are you deciding?
Usually.
So I train five days a week.
I guess three of them are at home.
They're just kind of my rep squat and bench days.
And then I go to Madtown for my deadlift and my heavy squatting bench.
So your heaviest ones you're doing like because are you taking liftoffs on bench and you like want spotters or is it like an atmosphere thing?
Or what's the like heavy deadlift for it.
More like a little thing.
Just kind of see my friends.
Every once in a while if I feel like I'm a little bit busier, I'll do my heavy Saturday on at home.
but I guess I could deadlift on the platform I have,
but I don't really want to.
Yeah.
What plates do you have in the home gym?
I have the Ponce O'Keele plates.
Okay, yeah.
So you could still load up.
I have a set of rogue bumper plates as well.
Okay.
What else do you have in the home gym?
We're obviously looking at the combo rack.
Do you have like any other machines or anything like that?
Or is it mostly the combo?
I'm a curved woodway, a single stack free motion, cable cross.
Um, the rogue CTM one, um, lap pole down low row.
Oh, yeah.
Uh, power blocks up to 175.
Some, some strong man equipment.
I have, I'm getting, I think Thursday.
I have right now Rogue fluid ham raise, but I'm getting the X master, um, posterior chain
developer.
Yeah, yeah, it's nice.
I'm excited for that one.
Yeah.
So, I mean, that's,
Sounds like it'd be a sweet gym tour.
We'll have to do that sometime.
Like, the one thing I want to upgrade still is the,
I have a lifetime leg extension leg curl,
but I want to upgrade it to a prime.
That's like, yeah.
That's my favorite leg, leg extension, leg girl.
Yeah.
Yeah, their stuff's pretty legit.
Yeah.
It's just something.
Yeah.
Uh, yes.
That's kind of is always the case with them.
So, like.
you obviously trained in a commercial gym forever,
like before having a home gym ever.
You know,
you haven't had this for that long.
And you kind of said you go there for the atmosphere and stuff still.
Like,
could you just train at home and be totaling 2,300 pounds and stuff if you had to?
Or do you feel like you need the atmosphere part of it still sometimes?
I think the only thing that would be tough would be squats without spotters.
That would be,
especially like the weight I'm doing.
I have dumped 790 pounds on this rack.
But I prefer not to have to do that.
Yeah.
So that's like the only thing that would make it tough.
Like if I was very limited and like I didn't trust anyone.
If like my friends weren't, if I had a move and like I didn't have friends of the gym,
I would maybe just get some like custom like spotter blocks made or something like that.
Yeah.
So what is, are you in a basement or a garage or what part of a little?
Yeah, yeah, okay.
So is it pretty full?
Like, could you, you talked about the prime machine.
Could you fit four more machines in there?
Like, if you got to go.
I could maybe, like, shift some stuff.
But I don't like, like too much clutter.
And then I've kind of already started to expand into, like, the next room over.
So do you think, like, do you envision?
vision the home gym growing much or do you feel like once you get maybe one or two more pieces you're probably good yeah I think like one or two more pieces maybe I'd get rid of the free motion because I don't use that too much and switch that for something but um at this point it's more so just like upgrading stuff isn't the free motion suit is that the one are those super heavy or like yours has yeah that was uh by far the hardest thing to get down so I like I carried I think everything in here down here by myself that one I like I took everything on
took like the weight stack took the arms the legs off that frame is still i think 500 pounds yeah
yeah well because isn't it like a three to one pulley ratio or something like it it's just like tons of
weight stack yeah yeah okay Tommy any other home gym set up questions or anything like that that we
should get them on probably good for right now but if it comes to mind well save it for the video
yeah that's right that's right that's for the for the the real mccoy okay so you just came off
the American Pro, was that like two weeks ago or how long was that now?
A week and a half now.
Week and a half.
And the total over 2,300 pounds, right?
Yeah, I chipped it by like half a pound on my record.
Yeah.
Not like P&R'd after like two years.
And that was still under 220, right?
Yep.
So did you have to, did you cut weight at all?
Or were you like?
A little bit.
I walked around like 220, like the whole prep.
I was like 227 to 229.
Okay.
So not like a crazy.
cut or anything like that. No, it was pretty easy. I did like a half-ass water load and then
my fiancee was competing Saturday or Friday morning. So I did like just a couple
sauna sessions Friday night and then walked in the scale and I was 2.18 or so. And you, is it right,
you got your second dead left and you missed your third? If you're, you would have got your third,
would it have been like, it would have been an enormous PR, wouldn't it then at that? Yeah, it would have been like
2347, I think.
Okay.
What is the record for 220?
Does Yuri Belkin have something like that?
I think his is like 23, 503 or 57, something around there.
Okay.
I remember looking at it and be like, that'd be a little bit of a reach.
But with that third deadlift, you wouldn't have been far off of it then, though.
Correct, yeah.
Okay.
And did you say with the deadlift?
Because the grip was the issue, right, on that one?
I mean, the strength looked like it was there, right?
Yeah, that was like the easiest.
That's what the frustrated thing is that like the deadlift itself felt so easy.
But like immediate off the ground, I kind of felt my hand shift.
I was like, oh, shit.
Okay.
So it was just, I think you wrote something like it was just if you would have taken a second to maybe set your hands like that could have possibly made the difference there.
Yeah, yeah.
Like I feel like I didn't get like my hand total.
into the bar.
Have you,
what's interesting is,
you know,
you look at a lot of the
high level elite pullers now,
and so many people are hook grip.
Have you ever made an attempt at hook grip or not?
I did one time.
And this was back in,
I think,
2014,
or 2013.
I had,
like,
just started competing.
And I think I was,
like,
around, like,
a low 600 deadlifter.
I was going to do,
like, a push-pulled me
to,
like a back-air push-pulled me
to match.
town and uh i think like the last heavy deadlift i was like all right i'm just going to like
go up and see what happens i think i hit 585 and like i was like that felt pretty good all right
i think i'll i think i'll try it in the meat i went for 635 and just like ripped like my whole
thumb off and i was just like maybe not anymore all right so that was the only run at it then
so i mean do you think uh like so do you feel good about your grip though like is it is it ever a concern
for you or are you like no i'll get it next time um yeah i mean sometimes it's a concern i feel like
i'll probably throw in some like farmers caries or something like that to hopefully work on it but
i feel like switching to hook grip would especially with how i get my air at the top and um
if i'm like fidgeting at the bar like trying to get set my grip that like kind of sikes me out a little
bit and it would just change my deadlift so much that it would take like probably a year to
adjust to it and right i don't know how many years they got left uh your squat was up for is
it's been on the come up though hasn't it like haven't you put some big weight on your squat
yeah yeah squat's definitely definitely been really good since moving up to the 220 weight class
yeah it's and i mean so you're someone that's benched 600 pounds you know your deadlift you're like at
going like 880 to 925 every time like my thought on those like you can only gain so much on
I'm not saying you can't like hit PRs on those but uh it seems like that uh was like your biggest
opportunity for a bigger total is the squat to continue to uh creep up on you too yeah yeah like
bench is starting to get back to where it has been in the past that was kind of
I feel like
that's kind of the thing
it's just like
one of the lifts
has always been
just kind of lagging
and you know
I'm kind of at the level
where I almost need to go
like perfect every meet
to hit like a decent PR
but that was the nice thing
about this meet was that
even though I missed the third deadlift
and didn't go perfect
I still hit a small PR
so that was like
okay if I can have like
one more like super meat
then I'm in a really good spot
yeah
what are the
what are like for you what are the
what meats do you like that are the best
like what meets do you like doing the best at this point in time
American Pro is always a really good one
I'd say this year was
really really well ran
and then um
bar showdown was a really good one this past year
the absumeats are cool to go to Ireland
but it's it's tough to like justify going over there
when like the US has better payout meets
and like I can like make you know a few grand versus spending a few grand to go overseas right um and then especially at this point in my career like
I feel like maximizing my total is a better call and they're just the equipment they use like the
server's deadlift bars I hate that bar so it just makes like the whole deadlift prep annoying for me
that's the bar that they use a server's deadlift bar oh so it's
first.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I'm surprised that's what they use.
Yeah.
And then I'll do King of the Platform down in Florida in December.
So I've heard good things about that meat.
Okay.
Where's that at?
Do you know Jordan Wong?
Oh, that's one of Jordan's.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh, awesome.
Yeah.
I know that.
I guess I know the name.
I should.
Yeah, I was at Jordan's gym a few months ago, actually.
So, yeah.
So, yeah.
Awesome.
Yeah.
Sweet.
Yeah.
Jordan awesome um okay have you ever been at the same meet as colton then before or not have you
guys competed together at the same we're i mean we're supposed to do the the one in february but
he uh decided to do the one in russia was there controversy about that or something that he
there was um he like we were supposed to like sign a contract and everything and then they were
they announced it and then obviously he decided to do russia and then the beat director
directors were pissed with him.
He was like,
I didn't,
I pretended to sign the contract,
which like,
okay,
like that kind of worked,
looks a little worse,
but yeah,
worked out for him because he absolutely crushed it.
So,
yeah.
Like,
have you,
have you had much back and forth with him on the internet or anything?
Not too much recently.
We've,
we've talked,
um,
or we've had like people trying to like set up something again.
But,
um,
I feel like it hasn't gotten like,
pass too much like an initial kind of like oh this would be a cool meet for both of us yeah i don't
actually even know what is it like if you have a good meet and he has a good meat on like what what
score are like at the american pro what score are they going on for uh dots dot so like how do you guys
dots compare uh he's got me a beat now okay like with this last meet he did yeah yeah he just
had just like the i i think it's the best piloted performance of all time so yeah like
because he was squatting over a thousand in that too, wasn't he?
Yeah.
Yeah, that's crazy.
I know.
I was like, oh, shit, okay.
Well, do you feel like you have any rivals at this point then?
Like, who do you go to when you go to a meet?
Like, is there anyone that you're, you know,
when you go to the American pro,
is there to one that you feel like you're battling against
or anything like that?
Or is it pretty much?
I mean, so like Kyle Kirby and, um,
and your house were spaltz,
supposed to do the America Pro, but unfortunately they both had to pull out.
If they were there and like if they have good meets and I have a bad to like a okay performance,
then they have a chance to beat me.
But outside them and Kyle on the untested side, not really right now.
Yeah, that makes sense.
you had made the comment there like oh i don't know how long you know it might take a year
and how many more years i'm going to do it do you have a plan in your mind are you like yep i'm
going to power lift at the highest level competitively for five more years or 10 more years or three
more you know like do you think you have a plan or are you just i don't i don't have like a set
date of like or a set number of years that i want to do at least probably like three more and then
I do want to kind of give Strongman like a good go for like just like a good two years where like I'm only focused on Strongman.
Yeah.
You've never really just focused on Strongman for very long.
Not really.
I was kind of like I've done like a full prep, but I've had like in the back of my head like, okay, I still have to like maintain the power lifts.
Yeah.
It would be sweet to see you do the Strongman like a like you said like a couple solid years of that and see.
where it goes.
Yeah.
And like I love doing OSG and I don't know.
It would be cool to add like World Strongest Man under 90 kilos to my resumes.
I got kind of close with the sixth place and what was that 20, 23 or whatever.
Yeah.
Yeah, that would be a sweet title to add.
Yeah.
What's, uh, okay, I got a Mount Rushmore question for you.
Okay.
So you got to pick your top four.
What's your Mount Rushmore of?
Wisconsin lifters.
So people that you can at least,
I don't care if they live in Wisconsin currently or whatever,
but like lifters all time that you tie to Wisconsin somehow.
Okay.
Casmeyer has got to be number one.
Oh yeah, yeah.
I was actually just talking about it.
Yeah, my fiance about it.
I was like, bad, they're like,
the people in Wisconsin are like, we have some legends.
It's crazy.
It actually is.
Like Pete Rubish, definitely.
that's what I was thinking.
I think I put myself.
Yeah.
I think that's fair.
I'm trying to think who the fourth would be.
That's three really legit ones then.
Tommy,
are you thinking of anyone in particular,
Wisconsin?
I mean,
I can come up with,
well,
John would know names too,
but as far as like who belongs to number four,
it's hard to say.
Who is the guy that?
I'm not saying he's there.
Wasn't there a guy that?
that he did say like Mark Bell's meets like 15 years ago and he was a deadlifter and didn't
didn't he die there was a no uh you're thinking Chris Hickson he was yeah Illinois okay okay
like there's a lot of guys in Illinois that like yeah I spend time in Wisconsin but they're not like
from Wisconsin right I mean Mark has some crazy list I was going to say maybe maybe Mark
probably like some crazy lifts too
Well, that's true, too.
Yeah.
Yeah, he's a Wisconsin guy too, actually.
That's a good point.
That's a tough one between Boog's and Mark.
Like the wild card on the...
I think Boog is a little bit more influential, so I'll go ahead.
Yeah, okay.
That's fair.
Yeah, but it's true.
It's tough, too, because obviously U-CAS and Pete all, like, competed very specifically
in strength events for a long.
time and Mark and Boogs both like just do insane shit.
Yeah.
Dude, some of the stuff they do, I'm just like, what the hell?
Did you see Mark on Sports Center this week?
No, I did.
Yeah.
It's the one, uh, he's in his driveway and he's got his trap bar and he like cleans
his trap bar and I don't know what's on at like 315 or something like that or 225,
I'm not sure.
And he presses it overhead and then like he put the tag on there.
or the text like, I let the intrusive thoughts win, and he puts it overhead,
and then he tries to drop it as quickly as possible and put his arms down.
So, like, the trap bar falls around his body, but, like, catches him.
It looks like in the chin almost, and he kind of gets, yeah, and SportsCenter reposted it this week.
It was funny.
Jesus.
I haven't seen that video.
You've trained with him a little bit, haven't you?
Yeah, yeah.
We're at the same gym.
Right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, you guys could have an interesting deadlift session.
Yeah.
That's the one thing I feel like we haven't had is done deadlifts together.
You've, uh, have you trained with boogs before, too?
I trained with them one time, yeah.
Yeah.
So like your YouTube channel, actually you've, you post, uh, quite consistently, don't you?
Like, what's your goal on YouTube?
How often do you try to put out a video?
Do you?
Um, you, um, you,
Try and like every other week.
Occasionally it's more, sometimes it's less.
Like right now I'm waiting on the clips from this last meet before I can edit the video.
And they're just kind of being a little slow with it.
So do you do everything, like your YouTube videos, do you edit everything and
thumbnails or like do you have any on that help?
Some of them.
The ones recently, I've had a videographer who has been doing the editing and he's
been doing like an amazing job and I'm kind of bummed though because it works for big 10
network so with the football season starting.
He's going to be busy.
Yeah, it'll be a little bit more busy.
So do you film it and then you just shoot him the footage and he edits?
He would film and then edit it.
Oh, nice.
So he'd be at Madtown with you or whatever.
Yeah, yeah.
Like so I might try and find someone to at least like shoot for me and then I can edit, but
like it's tough going back to like.
like setting up the tripod and then like I don't know.
Also lifting that and like moving it again like getting stupid angle for B roll and stuff like that.
And it's just like it makes a workout that should take like an hour and a half, take like two and a half hours.
And it's just like, ah, okay.
Right.
And you're like, I might be focused now.
Like what the hell am I doing?
Yeah.
So it's like I don't want to go back to that now.
Yeah.
Yeah.
When you record yourself, like do you, what do you use for a camera when you're recording?
I have a 8, 7 and that's three.
Tommy, you're the camera guy.
Yep.
I mean, everyone has pretty much everyone has a Sony.
It seems like some people like have Canon.
But yeah, it's kind of the way it is now.
Yeah.
Yeah, I just, I don't watch every YouTube video, but I stay pretty close on it.
Have you done many like collab videos like that, say with like Mark or boogs or anything like that?
Or is it usually just your training?
Your training is what I see the most.
Mostly just training.
I feel like when I do collabs, it's usually on someone else's channel.
Right.
I was going to try and get my videographer to go up to this,
strawman gym in, like it's Oshkosh that Mark goes up to, I think, most weekends,
but Bryce Johnson also trains there and a few other.
Basically, most of the Wisconsin strawmen community kind of get together,
and I wanted to do that as a video, but it ended up, we ended up, like, pushing it back.
And that was too close to me to kind of throw that into the training.
So yeah.
Do you ever or have you ever wanted to do any videos that aren't specifically training related?
I've like I've thought of I've like,
I wanted to do like a full day eating video.
But then I'm just like, yeah, that doesn't interest me.
Like I don't give the shit that.
So it's like hard for me to be like excited to make that video.
Yeah.
Right.
yeah that's fair what uh what do you drive in these days do you still have the corvette yeah still
the corvette just got the oil change today and it was expensive so so guy you've had that
i mean have you had that like three or four years now um i got in i think 20 22 so yeah four
years yeah i feel like one of the times we had you on like you had just recently picked it up or
something i think so yeah um do you so do you drive it much
Um, a couple, like one to two times a week during the summer and like spring and fall.
I mean, obviously don't drive during the winter.
Yeah.
Do you ever see yourself being like, oh, I need to trade in for a newer Corvette?
Are you like, nah, I love this car.
Like I'll have this car forever.
I would like halfway in between or I guess like a third in between just like leaving it as it is,
putting a supercharger on it or like a, like a grand sport or a super,
or a ZO6 or something like that.
But I don't know, like right now, I have to plan a wedding.
Adult stuff to do.
I know, like, I can't spend money on this.
Like, I put all the money into, like, building the basement gym last year.
And I paid it, I paid off the car this year.
So, yeah, those are big purchases.
Yeah.
Do you know, like, do you have a wedding date set and everything?
Are you, um, so originally,
we were looking at fall next year, but then we got quoted a few prices out in California,
and it was like $60,000.
I was like, I'm not paying that much.
So, like, we could probably do a destination wedding and just keep it really small, and
we're like on our honeymoon at that point for like way less than that.
So we're thinking maybe spring next year.
Is she from California or what's the?
Yeah, she's from California.
man.
What about your concert scene?
Is there anything much to go to in Wisconsin now you live there versus like when you're
in California?
Because I think I'm pretty sure we talked about that one of the times we had on before.
I mean like you'll occasionally be able to catch a show of like an EDM artist or something
like that.
There is one festival that's in like central Wisconsin that I've heard it's really good.
They've had it for two years now.
And each year I've like had something going.
on the weekend that that one's happening.
But Chicago has a lot of good scene down there.
What's the big Chicago festival that was going on when we were there?
Tell me a lot of the airport there.
A lot of kids, a lot of young people running around to the airport that weekend.
Yeah, I've definitely like the old guy at the festival.
I'm like, man, I can't hang with the like, like, let's go to the after party.
I'm like, I'm tired.
It's actually been a lot.
since I've been to like any like big festivals or anything but I remember when it was right
before my wife and I we left for a honeymoon we went to uh Travis Scott he was doing the Astro
World Tour.
Oh shit.
We went to, it was at the Target Center in Minneapolis and we went to go get beer and the
guy's like, I got to see your IDs.
And I think we were like 26 at the time.
He was like 26.
Wow, there's the oldest people here.
And I'm like, dude, that was 26.
Like now if I, in that same scenario, I'd be ancient by comparison.
I don't know.
And then like the opposite, we went to a disturbed concert.
I'm like, I think we might be the youngest people here.
You know, I've never been to a disturbed concert.
I like to picture that like they end the show by playing down with the sickness like five times in a row.
Does that happen or not?
We did stick around.
So we were there for three days grace who were the opener.
Okay.
And they they split their like disturbed splits their show like in the two halves.
Oh.
We stay for the first half.
And yeah, they did play.
They get down with the sickness for the second half.
Is it because it's an older audience?
They need a little intermission to read.
Yeah.
I think they do too.
There's my disturbed album right there.
I don't know if that's on camera or not.
Oh, hell, yeah.
Oh, dude, that's another great album.
Disturbed, creed, all the essentials back there.
Oh, yeah.
That's good.
Wikipedia here says you're 5'9.
Is that right?
Yeah.
which like
I saw a few
Google summary or something's telling me that
I was just checking something quick
I was like some people were saying 5-7
I was like god damn
I need every inch I can get
you talk about at EDM
feeling like you're the old guy there
when Tommy and I were at the Arnold this year
it's like it's probably been the case
other years but I never actually noticed it before
but this year
was definitely like an eye opener.
Did it,
did it feel different to you?
Like,
like,
the vibe was so different.
Like,
I felt like I was 90.
All of a sudden,
I'm like,
oh,
when did I become old?
Like,
old is shit compared to everyone.
I think it's definitely because,
uh,
where are the animal cages where I spent basically the whole time,
like the young LA booths with the blind,
like kids all the way there.
So it's just like a group of kids just constantly.
And you're like,
hell.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It definitely felt a little bit different than it has it before.
Do you guys go to Home GymCon?
Yes.
Yes.
We had a booth there and it was really good.
It was cool.
You'd like Home Jim Con legitimately for like the way.
I really wanted to go, but obviously this year it was like a week out and I was kind of,
I was like halfway in between like like I don't want to like throw in an extra thing
of travel right before the meet.
in in 2027 we'll have a booth we'll fly you out and you come uh kiss babies at our booth for a couple hours
i've been down to that i've really wanted to go to it yeah yeah we were talking about
like doing that with like boogs too and seeing you know because he's kind of a home gym guy too so
honestly like checking out the equipment you would love that part of it because like when you're talking
about oh i like this prime machine or what like the stuff you get to check out there you
You never get to see all that, like actually use all that stuff at one time and one place like that before.
So it's pretty sweet.
And you can put a good word in for yourself when you go meet some of these because it's all, you know, all the people that make decisions are typically there.
So it's like, oh, yeah, let me see if we get you taken care of here.
There's some of that going on.
You just walk around with a business card and be like, yeah, the name's John Hath.
I'm just going to have like a nice pad with like my lifting videos.
It doesn't be.
It's my portfolio here.
You know, it sounds crazy, but actually that would work pretty well in your favor.
Yeah.
I'm just going to max out all the machines.
Yeah.
Brian Shaw was there this year.
So it's starting to get to be where, you know, there is more of a lifter presence all the time.
There's a couple strong men competitions and a powerlifting meet there and stuff too.
So it's kind of growing in that way also.
For us having a booth, it's actually better for us now than the Arnold.
It just fits our vibe.
Well, that's part of it too.
The average age at the Arnold this year kind of felt like it was 19.
Yeah.
The average age at home gymcon felt like it was like 35.
Yeah.
It just kind of like pushes out the legacy companies.
And like all the kids are just there for young L.A.
Right.
What's the brief divinity?
Did you see the like?
the golf girls walking around.
Yeah,
what company was that?
So what is that company?
It's not dark sports,
the other one.
I can't remember.
Like,
you know the scene in 21 Jump Street
when they're like,
those are the jocks,
those are the nerd?
What the fuck are those?
That's exactly what I said to my girlfriend.
That's like what the Arnold's like
at this point now. It's all separated
like that. They're just scenes.
Has, like young L.A.
have they ever reached out to you?
No, not young L.A.
I've worked a little bit with Jim Shark, but
they like, they wanted
to do like an affiliate program
with me first and I was just like,
I feel like I'm, I don't want to do that.
What's the,
what's the guy?
God, dang it. He was a YouTube guy
and he's got a really big clothing brand to,
you guys will know it's
Alpha Elite is that the right brand?
Oh Chris.
Christian Goosman.
Yeah.
Like how about them?
Nah.
I don't like
gotten reached up like any of the big companies.
Okay.
I mean,
do you still do stuff with the rascal though?
Yeah.
Yeah.
They're more my vibe anyways.
Yeah.
Right.
Yeah, they fit the power lifting.
That's why I could just kind of wonder about like with the men's
because there's probably a couple of those that work
with some of the women power lifters, but they're probably almost like the women
influencer power lifters even, you know, like, I don't know, maybe I'm wrong.
I'm not sexy enough, I guess.
Well, that's what they're after, I guess, huh?
Yeah, I feel like some of the companies he also, like, need a good story, and I just don't
happen.
Just being really, really good at lifting isn't a good enough story anymore.
Like, you need to have, like, some really big.
hardship thing that uh you know like a kind of a real tear jerker i remember uh what's the
what's the gym in uh california uh barbell brigade barbell brigade barbill brigade yeah barquan and um
geo like i think geo reached out to me and like they're like oh we're like doing a
series where we like highlight people who like overcame like hardship like a time that you did and i
just like,
uh,
honestly,
you're probably going to have like that one-legged monster and like,
like,
I'll be like,
I'd be like,
oh,
yeah,
I had like a test one day.
And I had to get a workout and like,
no,
my best one pretty easy.
That's kind of almost like every reality,
is television show too.
It seems like everyone has to have this thing.
And like sometimes I'm like,
dude,
it seems like you're really stretching there that this,
it's like,
oh, God,
my grandpa died.
And it's like,
okay,
but can you be like really sad about your grandpa dying?
And it's like, yeah, you and everyone else.
Like, yeah, we're 40.
Everyone's grandpa's dead.
Like, yeah.
Yeah, you really need, you need to have really overcame some shit
to have a good story like that, I guess.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah, so I was doing some checking.
We had you on the first time when our episode number started with 200.
Okay.
And we had you on once when our episodes were in the third.
300s.
All right.
And we had you on when our episodes were in the 400s.
And now we're having you on in the 500.
All right.
I'll see you guys in episode 600.
Yeah, 600 and something will be.
But I do.
I call dibs on 666.
All right.
Deal.
Well,
I'll make a note of that.
That'll be in like two years.
All right.
Right.
Is that right,
tell me,
like about two years.
And that's about the pace we're on.
So yeah.
We'll get you on in like two years.
We'll have to do the home gym tour before that though.
Yeah, that works.
do you can think about the home gym con thing though for 2027
yeah that would be down as long as it's not like a week out from me to get
but right right it should be so what it's set I get
keeping in mind it's like the very end of July yes it's like the very last few days
of July so depend on well so it will be close to the American pro
probably if that's in the similar time frame again though
maybe I don't know they'll see like I think they're maybe going to do like every other year
Okay. Okay. Okay. Well, so maybe, yeah, we'll talk to you about that once we get closer. We'll try and rope you into it.
Yeah, I'll be down for that. Sweet. Tommy, anything else for Big John? I think that's it.
So we'll see you probably at the Arnold, I guess, right? In March, we'll be there.
We'll come. We always look for you in the animal cage.
Oh, yeah.
I just like an odd question right after I got lift.
John, you just deadlifted 925 pounds.
Could you give us your rest Brendan Dassey, Wisconsin impersonation?
I consider having that playing like on my feet down here in the background.
Oh, yeah.
I don't know.
Awesome.
All right.
Thanks, John.
Thank you.
All right.
See you later.
Yeah.
You know, I was getting worried we weren't going to get the Brendan Dassey call
tying at the end, but we'd managed to end on it.
I thought maybe it's too played out, but the opportunity just fit in so naturally at the very end.
It actually did.
I thought maybe we'd harped on that too many times, the last six times.
We'd had them on.
No, never too much.
I like that Mount Rushmore of Wisconsin lifters.
There it's I forget about Caz
I forget about him
I want to
Nate I'm not saying there's not any
But show me the states to rival that one
You know yeah
Well
Cas and hack
At the top is a pretty
That is challenging
Legit one two punch
There's a lot of strong people from Ohio
Which would be
Yeah for sure
Or even if you took it the duo
The state with the strongest duo
because it's so top-heavy with Kaz and Hack.
You know, Chicago, you would take Ed Cone and...
Is Derek Poundstone from Chicago or not?
I don't think so, but I might not...
Oh, sorry, sorry.
I'm thinking of Derek Kendall.
That's who they would always lift with those guys.
But that's still not the same either there.
Yeah, you need a strong man.
Yeah, but if you want to say the duo,
are you saying duo as in power lifting strong?
Oh, right, right, right.
Yeah, that's really the top of those.
Oh, yeah, there you go.
That's an interesting.
conversation then too. Maybe that gets to be too obscure and hard to, like, come up with the Mount Rushmore.
Like, drop us in the comments some other states of the Mount Rushmore of lifters who's got the, you know, Texas is probably going to say, no doubt there's some big ones from Texas.
Yeah, you take Mark Henry out of Texas and I mean, Ronnie Coleman to a certain extent. Yeah.
Yeah, if you're not talking strengths. There you go. You're already going, Ronnie and Mark Henry is a couple of like that's a pretty hard hitters.
Yeah. Ohio would have some big ones. California.
statistically would have to have some big ones because of California.
I'm sure Illinois does too, though, with the Chicago tie in there.
Colorado, you've got Brian Shaw.
I don't know what's after Brian Shaw in that way.
That would be the tricker one there.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, isn't, uh, isn't, uh, Perkins, uh, what's his name?
Austin Perkins is, and he in Texas, too?
He probably is like the best.
You'd have to probably throw him in there because he's argued with pounds and pound
one of the best power lifters for all time.
Natty powerlifter ever.
So then you've got Ronnie Coleman, Mark Henry, Austin,
Russell or he is from there
There's probably other people you could get ahead of that still
But there's some, you know, Branch Warren, I think is from Texas also
Yeah, that's a tough Texas is a tough one too
It is.
And we're definitely leaving a lot of people off of those things.
Oh yeah, for sure.
Yeah, the Ohio one would be interesting to come up with what that list actually is.
Where's, where's, um, God, I'm drawing,
Where's you,
old York barbell guy in the,
I can't, I think of his name.
Bob Hoffman or?
No,
no,
people love him.
Oh,
Paul Anderson.
Where's he from?
I don't know where Paul Anderson's from.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Paul Anderson,
oh God.
That one's sure to get people going.
What was our,
it was the Caz interview video.
Yeah.
That's where all the Paul Anderson,
comments would come from.
Yes.
Yeah.
All the people, like weird Paul Anderson fans out of the woodwork.
What's the one that you get, that gets boogs going when you start talking about lifts is
what you just saying?
Who was I talking about?
Oh, Bob Peoples.
Bob Peoples.
You're like, do it for Bob Peoples.
Did I know that he knew that name or did I say that name and he?
I think he got going because he was talking about like doing goofy lifts or people would be like,
oh, but Bob Peoples did that.
And Boox was like, no, no, he didn't.
And it was just like, he was getting all fired up about it.
So then we were like, come on.
Do it for Bob peoples.
I've said it before he's doing his lips and stuff.
Minnesota, you'd have the Gillingham's.
Yep.
The first family of strength.
Amanda Lawrence.
Taylor Atwood, right?
It was a neat.
Dave Osland.
Taylor Atwood.
Some strong contenders from Minnesota.
Yeah. Something to think about.
Yeah, we'll get it robust. We'll get 50 lists put together.
South Dakota would be a trickier one.
Yeah.
Jonah Leo.
Yes.
After that.
I don't know if there's anyone on the national stage of...
Can you just give an honorary one to Brock Lesnar?
Does that count in there?
It feels like a stretch on a few ways.
Doesn't it?
Okay.
All right.
What else do we want to tackle this week?
You have several other topics in here.
Yeah.
I'm trying to think.
Okay.
I got one.
The equipment,
I think we got to save a little.
Yeah, we're going to talk about equipment a lot more next week, almost exclusively
next week.
Oh, actually, okay, I forgot.
I got one in here.
I should, I'm going to text this to you, Tanner.
just so you can see the picture.
I finally,
finally got around to doing my little project
that I was hoping to have done before.
Hoping to have this done before, God.
Oh, crew falls last year.
I was just thinking about this project the other day.
I was like, is he ever going to do that?
Oh, yeah, I've had the sign sitting here.
So what it is, tell me when you get that,
just so you know what I'm talking about here.
Yeah, oh, yeah.
Sweet.
So you haven't posted this yet.
No, I keep, I keep, I like everything I do in life.
I just never post on social media.
But I made a big, I think it's like 30 inches by 30 inches.
It's a square piece of like kind of a thicker board stock material.
Yeah.
And I have the Massonomics M logo cut out of it.
And I've just had it sitting here forever.
My goal was because when you're part of the Massanomics crew, you get stickers and stickers on stickers.
And I have like years worth of stickers.
I've been hoarding over here.
and this was the project.
I wanted to make this M
where I could cover it in stickers
and then if we ever move
or I need to change spots
I can take it with me and go.
And finally,
it was like a weekend ago.
I had a little time.
I'm like, hey, kids,
I got a fun game with stickers.
Like stickers.
Oh, yeah.
Kids, I'm like, all right,
here's a stack of stickers,
put them wherever you want.
And then you don't even have to,
they like take the thought process out of it for you.
Yeah, except my daughter
had a lot of trouble peeling
the stickers off.
Yeah.
So I sometimes have trouble
peeling.
Oh yeah.
To be fair.
A lot of them are hard
to peel off.
Yeah.
And they got bored
after maybe 10 or 15
minutes of that.
But we got a decent base down.
And then once I got going though,
I couldn't stop.
So I'm just hovering over the kitchen table,
just slapping stickers on this thing nonstop.
And finally got it done.
And I don't know,
it's,
there's a couple spots where I can.
It's basically almost completely covered.
Yeah.
I mean,
I have the stickers to fill it,
but the stickers left are big.
And they would cover up like eight other stickers.
and so that's very selective as to what could go anywhere else right now.
I was also going to say like you now need another place to put stickers.
Oh yeah, I could.
I could.
Because this is done.
And that was sort of my rule with this is I didn't want, like some people, I have 10 stickers
from them.
They just said, here's a bunch of money.
I didn't want, I tried to keep duplicates to a minimal.
Like if the sticker had a different, like some people have done different colors in different
years, I was a little better about.
that, but if someone just gave me like five of the exact same sticker, I tried to only use one of
them. My kids' favorite stickers on this for the Keith Head stickers. It's just a crowd pleaser
every time. They love those ones. I don't know if you see on the corner of the M there,
the one Keith Head has a, I didn't realize it at the time has this, has the deadlifter can
and it has kind of this hat look to it. Do you see that? Oh, yeah, like he has a Dunst Hat.
And then that's my boy, oh, I like the hat on that guy. He really liked that part a lot.
But, you know, my favorite sticker on here is?
What?
It's towards the upper right.
Tom of Massonomics, Jim.
That one sticks out.
I feel like, that's my eye ghost that one right away.
He's like, oh, I know who made that sticker.
That's yours, isn't it?
I'm like, well, it's actually not mine.
Yeah.
But your name's on it.
And it says Massanomics.
I'm like, oh, this is confusing, but it ain't me.
Yeah.
Yeah, that looks cool.
Yeah, it is a really cool piece.
is fun to just stand there and look at it and just see all of everyone's stickers on there.
Do you have any wall space left now then?
I actually do.
I could, uh,
because I rearranged some banners and things.
So I,
I could just make another one of these and hang it right next to it.
I thought about actually maybe doing a Jim Radar one next to it.
Ah,
that would be cool.
Something to think about.
Yeah,
I like that idea.
Yeah,
that's pretty sweet.
So people,
keep in mind,
join the Massonomics crew.
you'll have more stickers coming your way than you could ever imagine.
Just one of those little hidden benefits.
Literally.
Friends with benefits around here.
So many stickers.
I'm so thankful I have the Smith Machine project because I don't know what I would have,
I don't even know where all these stickers would have gone at this point.
Oh God.
Yeah, I don't know what you would have done at all.
Like you have so much like not how many massonomic stickers,
which I have an enormous stack of still,
just stickers people have given to me.
I mean, the stack had to bend.
at least six inches deep of just paper stick like just stickers it was well a lot and I would uh whenever
I would either send stuff to you're you know you come here I come there I always try to bring you like
what your fair share of stickers that get sent to us and I don't think there's probably like 30%
of the time I just missed even getting those to you you know they just ended up at math like so
you don't even get half of what it would be.
You know, like, you can see.
We get like a letter in the mail of stickers twice a week.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Which I love for sure.
You can tell the people, though, that I've encountered more in the past year between.
It's like, oh, I'm like, how do I have so many of this guy's sticker?
And it's like, well, I saw him at home gym con.
I saw him at the Arnold.
I saw him at Armeet.
I saw him here.
I saw him at Crew Falls.
And I'm like, every time I just get like two more.
And pretty soon I have like 12 of the same stickers.
So, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I guess that helps for my gym radar board if I ever get going on that one.
Yeah, I like that idea, having a gym radar one like of equal size, like right next to it almost.
Yeah, it'd be a cool look.
Yeah, we have big announcements coming in the world of equipment, actually.
Well, that's kind of what we're talking next week, I think.
Yeah, so that's, I guess that's the teaser for next week.
We have some real, just actually when you were here, what were you here for?
You were here for the Brown County Fair.
Oh, yeah.
And you literally took home a box of a box loaded.
Actually, like every time you're here,
you have like,
it's like Christmas.
Like at any point,
you know,
if I,
if I just started my home gym,
any one of those boxes would make my head explodes.
I'm like,
oh,
I mean,
I still am super,
super pumped,
but it's like the boxes get larger
and more valuable every time.
Yeah.
And there's just more stuff in them.
The number of things in this last one was,
was crazy.
We didn't mention that,
though.
We did film some videos.
was when I was in Aberdeen.
That's right.
So we have,
we did an Aberdeen
Hidden Gym basement gym,
home gym tour with Big Justin.
And noteworthy on that tour
was the railing.
Actually, the whole gym is noteworthy,
but what really is catching,
because we haven't released anything yet,
besides the quick walkthroughs.
Got like close to a million views on Instagram
of his barbell handrail.
Yes, his handrail into the basement.
He replaced it and put a barbell there.
And it is,
is really, really cool when you see that.
Oh, it's freaking sweet.
It's anyone that has a gym the second you see it like, oh, hell yeah.
Like that's what it's.
It's not up to code though.
I don't know if you're aware.
I heard it was up to the brocode is what I had to hear.
That's right.
It's up to, it passes the bro code with flying, flying killers.
Isn't that an odd thing to say if you saw somebody's video of their home and that
replaced their railing with something that really ties in good with their hobby?
Like, just take the gym out of it.
If you're like, oh, no, they're a snowboarder and they have the,
cool.
Yeah.
You made a snowboard bench into the wall.
Right.
Well, yeah, but that's not up to code.
Would you ever be like, would you,
Hey, you'd never think of it.
Lunatic.
I'm not an unhinged psychopath.
Like, oh, that's actually, actually, that's not up to code.
I've been, I've gone out in public before, so I know what you do and don't say.
And to assume that a homeowner,
cares about their handrail in their home.
In their own basement.
Being up to code.
I'd be like pretty sure they're not calling the code enforcement officer.
I hope Justin doesn't plan on selling that house anytime soon because that railing is not up to code.
I'm sure he's planning on leaving that barbell railing there when he goes.
I can't imagine the work he's got to go through to fix that issue.
Yeah, like four screws out and back in.
Yeah, say goodbye to your next month of Sundays right there while you work on that one.
Yes, we shot that one.
We did a Massanomics gym tour.
Yeah.
We did a list video where we're running down, well, stay tuned for some of that stuff.
I guess I don't want to give away all the, all the surprises.
And actually, we are leaving for a small trip in,
Three days.
Yeah.
To go shoot some videos, too.
You also forgot to mention that when I was in Aberdeen, we did coincidentally run into
each other at the Brown County Fair and we also had the exact same shirt on.
What shirt were we wearing?
I think we both had the shirt I'm wearing right now.
No, I think it was the brick gym tea.
Oh, yeah.
It wasn't even a new shirt.
No, it's a very old.
It's like a three-year-old shirt.
Yeah.
And actually, when I grabbed that.
I had a hole in the armpit.
When I was packing it, I'm like, oh, I haven't seen this tea in forever.
I'm so excited to wear this.
one and you're like the first person I see and you have it on too when the most the biggest thing
I remember about when I saw you there is how exhausted I was at that point because this the home
gym con plague that I caught was like I'm still not completely over it and I don't I don't that was
like 18 days ago yeah he got it bad and when we were at the fair walking around all day that just
completely had wiped me out.
I'm like, we have to get out of here.
You know, I went out one of the nights for the fair,
tried to be all young again.
Two things struck me.
I saw almost no one that I knew,
which is actually all weekend at the fair,
you just see people, you know, and like,
you're so-and-so's kid.
Like you see a ton of people that you can't walk for more than 10 seconds
without seeing someone that you at least know who they are.
But I went out that night,
and I saw almost no one I knew,
which was, and my wife made the same comment.
And normally I could just walk around
and people will, like, see me and be yelling and saying stuff.
But yeah, that struck me.
That was a surprise to me.
I must be getting old, I guess.
What, did you go to a concert?
No, I didn't go to the concerts.
I just went to some of the nighttime gatherings of stuff.
Theory of a Dead Man and Seven.
Seven Dust.
That was on Friday?
That was that Friday?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Seven Dust opened for The Theory of a Dead Man, I believe, right?
Yeah.
Yeah, I think that's right.
Which is a pretty different act for the Brown County Fair.
That's,
I think there was,
I heard from the local law enforcement that there was three separate fights
during the Seven Dust concert that people had to be hauled out.
Really?
And taken to,
and these people had been to a concert before?
I guess.
Seven Dust just gets you going.
I have a, I had an update here on Crew Falls.
Oh, yeah.
So crew, yeah.
Okay, this is pretty crazy.
Crew Falls is December 4th and 5th in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
It's our event for any supporting members that they can, you can sign up.
We charge nothing for you to come.
It's not an official lifting competition.
It's a weekend hang out with friends or if you haven't met everyone yet,
it's your soon-to-be friends.
And what we do is you come in on Friday,
we go out to eat lunch,
and then we all go to Tommy's garage gym
that we're just going to absolutely pack this year,
I can tell.
It was packed last year.
The humidity level is going to be crazy.
It is going to be so moist and chalky in there.
That's what the chalk for is to combat the moistness.
And the moistness is from human breath to be specific.
Human perspiration.
Yes. And we'll do a grip competition, like a semi-formal, semi-informal grip competition there. It's fun. It's way more fun than it is competition, I guess I would say. And you know what? We got to figure out how to one-up is the first event last year. I think we did was the tournament of hand. And that seemed like really fun.
The dynamometer challenge bracket. Also where we just like made people match up by we.
Just weird match.
That actually didn't do well for how the actual, you know,
it paired some of the best people against each other right away.
Early, yeah, like kind of randomly or whatever,
but that just seemed fun.
Like, because part of the fun was just seeing who had to like randomly match up against each other.
Yeah.
We'll do that.
And then we go out that evening and then we'll go to the local gym there
and we'll all train together for a day on Saturday.
And then we go out that night.
And part of what we do, though,
is we have a Hall of Fame ceremony on one of the evenings.
You can sign up now.
There's a sign up form to sign up for Crew Falls on the website,
and people have been signing up.
Right now, as of this moment,
38 people have signed up to come and get a load of this.
If everyone comes that has potentially so far said that they're planning on it,
how many Hall of Fame jackets do you think we're going to give away that night?
I mean, I was going to guess like five.
There's 19 Hall of Fame jacket level recipients all time up to this point.
19 people have received their jacket.
19 all time of the history of mass.
I guess my number would be like five-ish.
Yeah, there's 10.
No.
If all of these people come, we will be giving away 10 jackets.
We did not budget this in the year to be making 10 jackets to get away.
We're going to go broke.
Do they know what the cost of embroidery is?
The way we do these jackets, they're.
fairly expensive.
Ten of them.
Yeah, we're gonna,
we're gonna have a...
Let's hope we sell something
on Black Friday
to finance these jackets.
We're gonna have a lot
invested into these jackets.
Yeah.
And who knows,
baby travel plans will change
for a couple people
and we won't end up
with quite there,
but it's looking like
10 is actually...
Do we need to be doing
like some checking on these achievements here?
I'm wondering if there's some fraudulent.
Everyone's like,
yeah, I got a jacket too.
And I did some counting otherwise.
I think there's at least six existing jacket holders that'll be there.
So we could be up to 16 Hall of Fame jacket level members in one gathering there.
That is a big one.
Yeah.
So it's then also like I think there's six or seven people that will receive their cup that'll make it to 12 achievements that weekend.
So it's a big.
And you know, I was start, I was asking myself, why are so many people hitting the whole?
of Fame jacket level all at once.
And I think it's a couple things.
It's just been long enough since we released the program.
It's been four years.
Yeah, three, four years that a lot of people,
because some of the checkmarks are just having been a supporting member.
Like the final time one was having been one for four years.
And a lot of people are getting that checked off.
And then because it's been a certain amount of time,
they've checked off a lot of the other ones.
And then a lot of these people, of these 10,
a lot of them, their 15th is coming to Crew Falls.
So then they're like, okay, I have to go to Crew Falls because that's the way I'm going to get it.
So they're like, screw it, I'm going.
I want my jacket.
Yeah.
Sweet.
Okay.
Well, we were smart to put that one on the list then.
It gives us a reason to make these people hang out with us.
Force our friends to come from across the country one more time this year.
To never see them again.
Yeah, now they'll all have their jackets.
They've done it.
Yeah, I'm done doing you guys as dumb shit.
See ya.
It was good while it lasted, but I am over that.
We fooled you guys.
We got our jackets.
We're out of here.
We're so over this.
Are we going to do a certified training facility of the week?
Well, is this a Massonomics podcast?
Seems like it's been a while since we've done one.
It has been.
Oof.
See, I still got this home gym con cough.
Yeah, no kidding.
kidding. Okay.
Do you have to let it linger?
Do you have to let it linger?
That's what the cranberries want to know.
Is that what that is?
I can't think.
I could think of that matter.
Linger by the cranberries.
I know because I've used it many times in viral reels over, not so much now.
Would you say you're more of a linger or a zombie guy?
It actually would have used to have been zombie.
over the last couple years
I really like, I actually really like
the song Linger by the Cranberries.
I'll have to give it an actual.
I listen to it.
Like when I,
when was the last time I came to Sioux Falls
when we flew out for Home JimCon?
Yeah, I popped that on
the drive to Sue Falls
and I listened to it like three times consecutively
because everyone saw I'm like,
I really want to read the lyrics here
because I'm like, really,
some of these things I say in my head a certain way.
I'm like, that's not what it actually is.
You ever have that with a song where...
Oh, yeah.
You're like, wait.
Am I actually thinking this right?
Is this actually like it is?
Oh, that's the word that they're saying there.
Yeah.
But linger,
linger is the better song in my opinion.
That's just my opinion,
but it's like by far my opinion.
Okay, I'll have to listen to both of them.
Did I tell you...
It has a weird,
Lingar has a weird, like 30-second opening.
Does it really?
That is...
just instrumental
and it completely
sounds unlike the rest of the song
once it starts.
Oh, see, I have to listen to the song.
I don't even know how it is.
Yeah, that's the funniest, oddest part
about linger is like there's just this
maybe 30 seconds of the exaggeration.
It's got to be at least 20 of this long
instrumental or, you know,
just no vocals opening.
And then it just goes,
bam, here's the song and it completely changes.
Okay, I'll check that out.
Yeah.
I'm like, why could you have just
left that off the recording.
Like, why did that part make it?
Speaking of not knowing lyrics,
I had a friend that it was not until,
God, we were probably like 20,
that he thought,
Guns and Roses, Paradise City,
he thought the lyrics the whole time
would take me down to the very last city.
Dude, the song is Paradise City.
And he thought the whole time
I was saying, the very last city.
I'm like, the name is
in it.
This isn't like a,
this isn't like some mass,
massive cover up here.
You're just like not getting this.
That is hilarious,
but I can't think of a specific example of me,
but I'm,
I'm positive.
I've done like the same thing.
Maybe not quite that bad where it's not the name of the song.
Well,
I think what's the bad of that one is,
is the name of the song.
And it's not like the lyrics are that hard to understand that.
No,
that one always seemed obvious to me,
but I guarantee I've done one before that people would be like,
Oh, you idiot.
So we do a certified trip.
I think we got to.
Okay.
Let's not let it linger anymore.
Do we have to let it linger?
Yeah.
Okay.
All right.
You ready for this?
Yes.
Okay.
We're looking at a little place this week.
We're going to Tennessee.
Place is called Bears Gym.
You know, actually just saying Tennessee right there remind me.
I had a teacher in high school that he loved.
You can almost guarantee you to get one question right on a test because he always liked to make the answer to number 10 BC so that when you're correct to the test, you could say 10 is C.
Get what I'm saying there?
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
Tennessee.
How many gyms on gym radar do you think have bear in the name?
Oh, boy.
What's your guess?
10.
Seven.
Seven.
That's quite a few actually.
Yeah.
Because you said bears, Jim B, A, R.
apostrophe s gym because there's bear man's gym
bear shark tank bear strength garage's gym
beringer well those are gravity bears gym
honey bear barbell club but you're talking bears gym
yeah we're talking the one and only bears gym in franklin
Tennessee and if you are playing along at home you can refresh
and that is now officially marked
certified training facility of the week
all right a little breakdown on this here
This here, Jim.
The owner is also Bears Jim.
About the gym.
Strength gym for a middle-aged guy
and his kids-slash-neighors.
It was established in 2025.
So a pretty new gym,
380 square feet.
This is in a garage.
He's into functional fitness,
powerlifting,
starting strength and strength training.
Sounds like a real enthusiast,
if he asked me.
Yeah.
He has 46 pieces of equipment
cataloged here.
His number one brand is rep.
number two is fringe and number three is rogue.
That sounds like some quality pieces if you ask me.
Has he had any reviews?
No reviews yet.
But there are a couple comments on his gym.
A couple in there.
Should we take a look at these photos?
Yeah, let's see what we got here.
All right.
So it looks like the gym is in,
looks like it has a full stall to work with here.
And the first thing I notice is that
it's got a really clean look.
So, you know, the walls are all white, but he's got black.
He's got horse tall mats down?
Yeah, those are, I don't know if those are horse tall mats or like just four by six gym flooring tiles, you know?
Yeah.
I'm wondering, does he claim horse stall mats as a...
Yeah, we can have the answer to this.
Well, I don't see that he claims that or any other specific flooring.
Because we have a lot of different flooring options available on Jim, right?
that you can specify, but he doesn't specify.
All right.
And then he's got a lot of hex lights on the ceiling.
So I'm sure it's pretty bright in there.
What's this red lap pull-down machine he has here?
That is great question.
Yeah.
What is that?
Let me, I got to filter some of his.
The best part about the equipment is you can filter it.
Okay, I'm on machines.
He's got to,
fray fitness lat pull down low row that's not that is it uh might be maybe oh yeah that's what it is
yeah it must just fray offering red looks good either way yeah that's what i that's what that's what that's
must be what that is it looks very commercial doesn't yeah yeah it's a nice looking piece uh what else we
got oh we got the four six compact compact hack squat leg press there that would be it for the
foreground i think we need to go to photo number two where we can see a little more what else is
taking place here he has actually two different racks here he has this rep
that I think he's actually using mostly for storage on the inside.
Then he has some J-Cups on the outside.
He's got the rogue skier or sorry, the rogue rower folded up there.
Some what the hell is it on it?
Primal kettlebells down there.
Oh, yeah.
He's a beloved by collectors.
Decent collection of, are these hammer strength dumbbells?
Urethane dumbbells?
I can't tell from the same goal it's actually on the end of them,
but I might say that.
I'm not totally sure.
I got photo number three.
Got a little shirt there.
Photo four.
Got the bells of steel basketball hoop up on the rack.
What is this rack here?
He's got a fray fitness rack and he's got a PR 5,000.
Okay.
Oh, yeah.
He has the rep Smith machine attachment on there too.
He has several things going on with his rack because
They're all connected.
Like this one rack.
Oh, yeah.
There's a functional trainer.
It's all connected, actually.
Does it say lethal on the top of it?
Is that what that says?
Yeah, I don't know what that is.
Okay.
I don't either.
So it has this like functional trainer four post rack setup that has,
I still can't tell what those dumbbells actually say.
It's say, oh yeah, lethal fitness.
So there must be some, I've never heard of lethal before,
but there must be apparently the make equipment.
But it has this lethal fitness like functional trainer.
in a rack here.
Then connected to that, he has another rack.
And then connected to that rack with a pullet bar,
there is another rack.
So he's got racks on racks.
Yeah, he does.
He also has one of those endless rope things,
you know, that you can do for cardio.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, those are always kind of intriguing to me.
I think that's it, mostly.
You can see a little bit on photo floor.
Is that a rack attached leg extension leg curl then?
Yeah, I didn't know what one that is.
Look at rack attachments, see if that's where it's that.
I don't know for sure.
Not sure.
You might not have that one cataloged.
I don't know what that is.
There's a few different options out there on it.
Yeah.
Okay.
It's supposed to be heavy.
I see that sign a few times in there.
Must be his thing.
It's supposed to be heavy.
It's right.
It is.
It is.
Do you think you could get strong here in Bears, Jim?
Oh, hell yeah.
Yeah, we're good.
Real strong there.
Sweet.
Yeah, if we ever make it back to that area,
that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's,
tour worthy.
Mm-hmm.
Okay.
So that gives us a certified training facility of the week.
Any other topics we want to talk on this week?
Well, technically we're supposed to do a radar report too.
Oh yeah.
Do we got a rate, do we want to do a particular radar report?
Hit the button.
Hit the button.
Ladies and gentlemen, can I please have your attention.
Radar love.
I just kind of want to hit the button.
I was hoping you'd hit it.
Did we talk last week about how we added the recovery mobility category, right?
I think we did.
Okay.
Yep.
So that part can be cleared from the radar report.
Numbers going way up?
Yes.
The numbers are a trending up, which is exactly what we want to see.
A lot of new gyms, a lot of new profiles created every single day.
it's actually August in general has been huge.
I think between coming off of home gymcon,
you know, the people we were able to get it in front of there.
August in general has just been a really,
really big month for Jim Radar in terms of growth.
And I've said this before.
I'll say it 100 more times probably.
But what makes it awesome is literally every additional person
that joins Jim Radar puts their gym,
on it and then starts claiming equipment and starts leaving reviews.
Like every single person, it just makes the whole thing way more useful.
Yes.
Like as you start to see like these most owned equipment pieces, like it even things like,
because at the beginning you say, oh, you guys are biased because, you know,
Jim Radar has some bias built into it because you have a big audience of users that like
to use the Texas debt.
I'd just pick a piece of equipment that someone that listens to my mass
omics might like like a Texas power bar could be something you'd say.
And after a while, I'm like, I don't know, man, there's how many thousands of people
do you need to be on this site before it's like not, you know, you start to say it's not
just people we've influenced at this point.
It's a lot of people that are outside of that.
Yes.
It hasn't reached just gen pop of people that have whatever Amazon Benfic.
mention some bands as their gym.
Right.
But it is people that are enthusiasts to a certain level where like they're looking at things
that just your average person wanting to get a workout in isn't necessarily looking at.
Like there's.
Right.
There is levels to this as everyone's aware.
And I feel like it's represented pretty well.
Like the cross section of how deep you want to go on this.
It shows up pretty well in the rankings.
Yeah.
And you start to see that like a lot of individual pieces of equipment are actually claimed by over 200 gyms on.
here. If you start to say that, I'm like, there's over 200 gyms that that specific piece of
equipment is owned by, like that brand, that one, you know, there's some that are even like over
300 gyms have claimed them. And I just, like, that is exciting to me because of how useful
it starts to get as we're hitting this high, this bigger group of people that are using it.
Yeah. One, I guess we can tell. We have.
have a little feature we're adding.
I think it should be ready, hopefully in the next, well, we have like unlimited features
that we keep thinking about.
But there is one that I'm thinking, hopefully be ready within the next month or so here.
I'm not, I don't think it's that big of a feature to add that I think is going to be
very helpful and very nice for people once that is on the site.
So I'm excited for that way to get out there.
As a matter of fact, Nate, Nate was working on it just tonight.
He was texting us as we were recording.
As a matter of fact, Nate somehow knows.
I don't know how he knows this.
Every night that we're podcasting,
he has exciting Jim Radar updates for things that he's working on.
He always knows for podcasting.
We always podcast on different nights.
Yeah, actually we do.
We switched up quite a bit.
Just in my, we'll talk more about this next week.
But in my personal experience, this week on Jim Radar,
it's been very, very useful for me,
as a owner of a new piece of equipment to see how people use that piece of equipment in ways that
they wouldn't necessarily say, like they wouldn't write paragraphs about how, but they provide
several photos from several different angles, and that is incredibly helpful to see how people
are setting up this equipment in their own space. And I'm not sure how you get that ever
figured out without Jim Radar. Well, that's kind of the funny thing, because I'm experiencing it
now also with some things I have going on,
Jim related,
that I've seen all these things on Jim Radar before,
but until it actually becomes applicable to me,
then it's like,
oh, no,
I'm deep diving into this very specific corner of Jim Radar
because I actually just need to know this.
Jim Radar.
Yes.
And, but it's like, no, no,
now this is really applicable to what I have.
And honest to God,
without Jim Radar,
I'd be like, I would never figure this stuff out.
You know, I wouldn't be finding answers to the questions I have.
Because the question a lot of times is like just, I just want to see what people are doing.
Yeah.
And before what I would have done, we've talked about this a thousand times is would have maybe
kind of looked on Instagram, but that still is just, I mean, Instagram search gets worse and
worse all the time.
The algorithm decides what it wants to show you.
And then it's, oh, it's terrible.
It is.
That's just junk.
And then it's all, I'll go to YouTube.
But even when you go to YouTube, a lot of it there is, you know,
you're going to see the bigger viewers.
And there's nothing wrong with it,
but their spaces are curated in a way that's very different
than people that are lifting,
you know,
in their gym is set up specifically for lifting,
not like having review spaces.
Right.
And so it's just been really,
really helpful for me to actually look at a product,
go to the bottom,
see all the gyms that own it,
and just click through some of the gyms
and see how they're actually laying it out in their space.
Someone really knocked it out of the park
with this gym right of stuff.
I'm telling you, they are on to something.
I don't know who they are,
but they are on to something.
Someone needs to give those guys
or serious pat on the back.
Yeah.
No, that's good stuff.
Then,
last question, any other topics?
Because you have like gaming in here?
Oh, I forgot about that.
I can do a quick update here.
I think we have,
there's some people in the audience
that will not care about this at all.
I think there's a few people out there
that would like this little update.
you know, it wasn't too long ago.
I'm like, I need to break my mind from the ties of Jim Radar and Massonomics 24-7.
It need to have a little brainpower go to something else once in a while.
Once in a while is the key word here.
And I had been reading.
I had been reading.
And then also preferably not watching YouTube because it just ends up circling me back to.
I was going to say that is a vortex.
same circles.
That's a vortex back to
Masonomics and Jim right now.
A lot of times it is.
I do intentionally try to make my follow list different on some of these things.
I'm not always stuck in the exact same content circle.
But at a certain point it's like,
you know what?
I've been having fun reading.
Sometimes it's fun to have a little different stimulus.
That's not just reading quiet time,
maybe something else.
And so I decided to revisit a little retro gaming.
Your boy did some retro gaming for the first time in years.
years. And here's my thing with games now. You know, games. The way they make them now,
you can't just turn on the damn thing and play it. You got to have an account. We've talked about that
before. That's very true. It's so annoying. You got to have an account. Make sure your system's updated
because you haven't turned it on in two years. Make sure you can sign into this next account to get the
game. Download the game. The game has to patch. What's that? It's the barrier that keeps me out of
gaming. It's so annoying. Like you can't just turn out of play a game for five minutes.
And for me to do what I'm about to do, it took me way too long because of the number of updates and accounts and bullshit and just so much stupid stuff.
Don't even get me started like Microsoft accounts.
So annoying there.
But eventually I get my Xbox fired up.
I get all the stupid updates done.
I get logged in and I download a Castlevania collection.
Tanner, are you familiar with Castlevania at all?
Not really, no.
Like, do you know what it is even?
I know the word.
Oh, man.
we have we have very different gaming experiences which i kind of i kind of always have known but um i don't
think i've ever really oh i mean i've heard of the i've heard of it but i just don't even like
i don't picture anything when i when we were really little i think um i was like i don't even
really remember we got so for somehow somehow we got an n-s when i was probably about six is it
zeldda ask um it's more of a side-scroller you have a whip okay you're you're a guy going out to fight
Dracula basically.
So you're going through like Dracula's castles and dungeons.
Yeah, I'm looking at it now.
I'm kind of surprised I've never.
I mean,
I'm kind of surprised I haven't come across this.
There's 50 of them at this point.
Yeah.
Maybe more.
I mean,
they've been around since the NES.
Like they've been around since like,
yeah,
first was like 1987 or something.
But like that was,
I don't know,
we got an NES from someone.
I think it was like it was like one of my parents friends that had a son
that was older and was done.
And they're like,
here you go.
Here's this with the very first Castlevania game and like Dr.
Dr. Mario.
like two not good games for like a five and six year old.
I'm familiar with Dr. Mario.
Just games that were too complicated for us at that time.
And then I got a little older.
I had a friend that had a Super Nintendo and he had Super Castlevania 4.
And I mean, talk about iconic as far as the art and the sound and all of it.
And the same time, I don't know, it was maybe like six or seven when we're going to his house.
Game way too hard for me.
He was a little older than me.
So it was the thing where we would watch him play it.
Yeah.
And his old,
he had older brothers that were even older and they would play it.
Which is an entire YouTube,
uh,
extremely popular YouTube job.
Oh yeah,
totally.
Yes,
100%.
Yes.
And,
uh,
I,
as I got older,
I did,
there's a game called Castlevania Symphony the night,
which a lot of people agree is one of the best games.
I mean,
maybe the best Casservaena game.
One of the best PlayStation games ever made.
Castlevania Symphony Night is really,
really good.
It is so fun.
It is so cool.
Everything about it is like perfect,
basically.
And I played a few more Castlevania games through the ages as time
has gone on, but I've never played Castlevania 4, and I had these childhood memories of it.
And I wanted a game that I could just turn on, hop in too quick, play beyond with my way.
And that is what this was.
I beat the game.
It was so much fun.
I was getting so much nostalgia of like the first two levels because we're kids.
That's like the only two levels we ever saw half the time.
And then I'm sure at some point someone had a Nintendo power that had the passwords to go to different levels.
Because as the game would go out, I'm like, I've never seen this level.
And then we'd get to the boss.
I'm like, I remember this boss.
We wouldn't have gotten here.
So we must have had the passwords.
You were just warp whistling all the way.
Basically, yes, yes.
And then the final boss is, you know, ever Castlevania is Dracula.
And you get to there.
Original.
Right.
Yeah.
Oh, spoiler alert.
And I got to Dracula and I'm like, what's he going to be like?
And I get there.
I'm like, I've seen this done.
Like I've recognized this as a child.
And so it was like all of a sudden I'm going back like 30 years in time where I'm
remembering this.
And also the music, it's taken me back like 30 years ago.
So it was a very fun game.
It was well done.
And there was a heavy nostalgia factor in it too.
So I did have a lot of fun with that one.
So you just, like, did you have to pay for it?
Yeah, it was like through the Xbox or the Microsoft game store.
It was like five bucks.
And it was like Castlevania, one, two, three, four and something else.
Yeah.
You said iconic PS1 games.
Yeah.
Did you ever play Final Fantasy?
Oh, those were my ultimate favorite games.
Final Fantasy 7.
I had one of them for the PS1.
I never really played it that much.
What one did you have?
I can't remember.
I never,
I had a ton of plays PS1 games.
But looking at like the cover art, it doesn't stick out to you.
I'm looking right now.
I think it's,
well, it was probably seven,
I mean, seven eight or nine.
Yeah, seven, I guess.
Yeah, it's seven.
Yeah.
I had Final Fantasy seven.
That's, to me, that's the pinnacle.
That's the best.
I was going to say that I just remember that one sticking out as like that was a very,
iconic because I even bought like I didn't even like it.
Yeah.
Like that's why I say it's iconic because I didn't even like the game, but I'm like,
oh, I feel like I'm supposed to get this game.
Yeah.
It was good.
It was like that's what, you know, that's the RPG style of game there.
And that's what hooked me into that whole universe.
Same thing though.
That was like I had when I was little kids going over to my friend's house, his older
brothers always had these games like the one on Super Nintendo was Final Fantasy 3.
I was going to say if seven was what came out towards the beginning of PS1.
Where did the other, where did they pump the other six out so quickly?
Yeah, Super Nintendo and NES.
There must have been like three on four on Super Nintendo.
Yeah, and some of them didn't come to America.
They were like Japanese only.
And so there was some things like that.
But yeah, seven, I played, I was like probably the game I'd played most of my life ever.
And then like eight, I never finished eight, but I got like almost to the end of the game.
Same thing with nine.
There was like four discs.
I think I made it through three of them.
And I didn't own the game was my buddies.
He never finished it.
could never get that last disc from him.
10 was on PS2, beat 10, love that.
And then that's kind of where I quit.
We had tactics, Final Fantasy tactics,
played that a little bit, but I didn't get away.
The other one that I'm probably going to do, though,
is I'm probably going to revisit the Metal Gear Solid series here
because that was the other one that I was obsessed with.
And I don't want to do any games that are like 60-hour games at this point.
And Metal Gear Solid is, like, from what I understand,
a 10-ish hour playthrough.
I mean, I played it 20 times as a kid,
but I haven't played the game since I was probably in fifth grade.
So I'd probably do a Metal Gear Solid playback at one of these days.
Did you ever play,
because you'd probably like it now,
is Grand Turismo.
Oh, yeah.
I played Grand Trism.
Yeah.
That's,
that is definitely where some of my interest in cars came from.
You know,
it was playing on there.
Because that seemed like a pretty big PS1 game too.
Oh, yeah, that was huge.
Like that was a game changer and that came out.
I've also, because I started doing this,
I get sucked into these video essays on YouTube of people talking.
about games and like you know the the PlayStation 1 PS2 games and the impact they had on gaming
culture and pop culture and so I've been watching too many stupid videos like that lately too
did you ever play uh twisted metal oh dude twisted metal yes I love twisted we loved I was just
thinking of iconic ones and I I think god I'm wondering if it was twisted metal too yep
that was the one we played the most was twisted metal too yeah I loved that game yeah
Like that playing with people.
So fun.
You know, Axel was the guy that was like just two wheels.
Yeah, two wheels.
What was the clown's name?
Thumper was a big pink like Cadillac car that shot a big giant flame.
You know, because they each have their own like distinct.
Yeah, the clown one I can't remember.
Like he's on the cover even.
Yeah, he is on the cover of all of them basically.
I don't remember being the clown ever.
We had Twisted Middle three on PlayStation.
Yeah, twisted metal.
God, that was.
See it.
My gaming was either, it was two possible types of games, like generally speaking.
It's the reason I never played.
I never liked, I actually, generally speaking, I don't like playing any game by myself all that much.
So I never played any games where it's like, oh, I have to, I have to go through this story by myself.
Right.
I loved like twisted metal because you sit down and you play with, I mean, you can go through, you don't have to,
but I liked games where you played with someone else or sports games.
Those are the only two.
Like I could do any genre of game where it's like I love like Mortal Kombat.
Yes, we play a lot of moral combat, a lot of street fighter.
We played a lot of that.
What was not Mortal Kombat?
There was a, it was almost like Mortal Kombat knockoff.
Oh.
I'm not even saying it was.
Was like three dimensional or was it still like flat side to side?
It was still flat.
It was still flat.
I'm just wondering if it was the Sega
if it was Sega or
Super Nintendo
Ah
Like Tekken was another one
We played a lot of
Yeah there we go Tekken
That's not it either
Tech is not it's pretty much
Techin
Teckon was so much fun
I'm thinking
We played a ton of Tekin
Also Resident Evil
Do you ever play in the Resident Evil games?
No
Yeah we played so much Resident Evil too
Yeah a lot of Final Fantasy
See I didn't like
Final Fantasy
and what was the Dracula game again called?
Castlevania.
I didn't play.
I didn't like I bought like Tomb Raider for the PS1.
I played it like a couple times.
I don't like this game because I don't like to play this by myself.
You know, I don't like, I never liked.
But what do you call that style of game where you're just like playing something for?
It's like you're like a mission or, you know, what's the classic Grant,
Grand Theft Auto?
would play Grand Theft Auto.
Oh, yeah.
Messing around, but I never did.
Oh, you never actually go through the story or the campaign.
Oh, yeah, the story, I guess.
I didn't like any games where you played the story.
I never, I never did that.
Like, I actually don't think I ever, after NES, I never did that because I would do it in
Mario 1 and Mario 3.
Yeah.
Like, you kind of do that.
But you kind of have to, because that's really your only option, those games.
You don't have options to really do anything else.
What about Tony Hawk?
Do you play much Tony Hawk ever?
Yes.
Uh, yeah.
Because you play.
played it together.
And,
but that game even,
it gets to be,
you find out these little,
little oddities where you can score so many freaking
points.
Because it just becomes this thing.
So,
you just know where weird shit happens.
So all you're doing is just like repeating this one thing over and over and over
because you're a points,
you know,
thing and you're just like maximizing your points.
So that's what it became.
After like too much,
it wasn't even fun anymore because you're just like,
like points maxing.
I remember we didn't have Tony Hawk,
but I had a,
I had multiple friends that did.
And when they would come over,
you know,
they'd bring the disc,
the game would load.
And then once they like,
they had to leave,
we would,
you could take the disc out,
but the game had already loaded the level.
So you could play that level as long as you wanted,
as long as you just didn't turn the PlayStation off.
And there was times where they would leave and we would just like,
I didn't know you could do that.
Yeah,
we would just leave the level on for like a day or two because like,
no,
we just got to keep playing Tony Hawk.
Yeah.
Tony Hawk Pro Skater, you know, I'm, I was going to say, I kind of, there again, start to lose track of which one was, I mean, even the original one that, that, that one's pretty iconic cover to me.
Yes.
Yeah.
Yeah, that was before, like the first person shooter thing wasn't what it is now then, you know?
Right.
With like Call of Duty and stuff like that.
Well, it was in NES.
I mean.
Well, then it wasn't, but even like PlayStation, it wasn't really even to like PS2 were like that started to be.
kind of a thing.
It felt like.
Yeah,
there was like,
D.
1.
Well,
even in PS1,
though,
wasn't there,
uh,
Halo or was that?
Xbox.
Okay,
that wasn't until Xbox.
Oh,
yeah.
So that was a,
Xbox and PS2
are the same generation.
Yep.
The original X.
So there was no Xbox in the area of,
era of PS1.
Not really,
no.
Right.
Yeah.
So there really wasn't then.
There probably was.
Yeah.
I mean,
I'm sure there was like metal of honor or call a dude.
They probably had something.
But like, I don't really remember playing first person shooters on PlayStation ever.
No.
No, neither do I.
I had a lot of PlayStation 1 games.
Yeah.
I was rich in places.
Like I,
my work working I did, I spent a lot of my money on PS-1.
I would go, you know, I would work a lot.
And then I'd go up and like stand in front of the case at Target.
Oh, God.
And Walmart and just stand there and just like investigate and have them open.
it so I could like look at and read and just and you could play those demos you know like they
would actually have the TVs or the controllers there that was like the highlight of us I mean I could kill like
two hours just considering buying a game so this was you know me and I both grew up in small towns you know we
didn't have Walmart targeting that stuff no so it was fun is when we got to go to a big town our mom could
go do whatever as long as we just stand at the game's the entire time you'd run to the game aisle and
you could just play demos the entire time yes and it was like oh yeah we can be here for two hours it does
not even matter one bit because we're playing games.
Do they even have that demo thing like that anymore?
No, no, I haven't seen.
They don't even really sell games anymore.
Like the new PlayStation, like they're getting rid of discs and it's losing the demo thing,
that makes me think we used to be a proper country.
Yes, absolutely.
Yeah.
That's sad that kids don't get to do that.
Also, there was a certain element of exactly what you're describing when you're from a really small town.
Oh, it's kind of an event when you go to the big town.
So it's like you don't all get to go to one.
Walmart all the time.
So when you go, it's like,
oh my God,
yes,
we get to like go to,
because I think about my kids,
I don't even think they want to go that.
You know,
they wouldn't even,
they'd be like,
I don't think they want to go to the store.
The comfort of my own home here.
Right.
And I was like,
like,
oh,
Target.
First of all,
Target opened in our town.
Second of all,
their game selection is better.
Like,
they have some different games.
Yeah.
Game,
uh,
PS1,
a new game.
game was $39.99.
Dude, I don't know how about it. I remember.
So we had, okay, we got an N64, then we got a PlayStation, then we got a
Dreamcast, then we got a PS2, then we got an Xbox, and that was kind of the extent
of, we got an Xbox 360, that was kind of the extent of my game, but all of those
we bought a lot of games for, I do remember, like, this is a thing online.
When we, so I think it was probably like fifth grade, maybe fourth grade, we bought,
what freaking game was it? Was it Zelda?
And I want to say that MSRP on Zelda was like $70 in, you know, like 98 or whatever.
Like do the inflation adjustment there.
It's like that was an expensive-ass game.
Yeah.
But N64, I think some N64 games had an MSRP of like $80, which is wild to think about now.
Yeah, PS1 games at $39.99.
That didn't seem terrible to me at the time.
It's also just like the only thing I wanted to spend my money.
Oh, yeah, 100%.
I was the only thing I cared about that.
Yeah.
Then at a certain point, it's like,
oh, damn,
Xbox,
we can play games online.
It's insane.
Yes.
What is it?
Need for Speed to Underground.
Did you ever play that game?
Need for Speed was really fun.
Did you ever play Driver?
That was kind of like before Grand Theft title,
sort of.
No.
You could like drive around.
We thought it was so cool.
I don't remember that.
I don't remember that.
Roadrash was a fun motorcycle.
Oh, Roadrash.
I remember playing that on Say,
I had a Sega.
That was a big Sega game, for sure.
Yep.
I never had a Sega.
I never had a,
I had an NES that I got given to me
exactly what you described.
It was probably like 15 years old
when it got given to me.
And like I got the games that it had,
those were the games that I had for NES.
Actually, I,
not this old, but it is what I originally had was Atari.
Really?
Like, I'm not, I'm not so that old, but someone, like, you know, when I was like five to eight,
the gaming system I had was an Atari.
Really?
See, I don't know if I ever knew anyone that had one.
I still have.
It's actually have that Atari around still, still, and games on it.
So I had an Atari.
Then I had an NES.
I never had a Super Nintendo.
Uh, the first thing I got, next thing I got after that was,
a PlayStation 1,
which is a game changer.
When I was in high school, I bought,
this was a large purchase decision
as I bought an Xbox.
Yeah.
And it was also, I made the,
like I had all this invested into a PS1
of all these years and games and stuff.
And I can't remember why I ultimately
decided to buy an Xbox and not a PS2.
I don't remember what the reason was
there, but somehow,
somewhere along the line I got talked
into buying an Xbox.
when I was in high school.
Yeah, we just did them all.
It was so fun.
And then in college, I had an Xbox 360.
Yeah, I feel like everyone.
And that's the end of the road.
It seemed like.
I was just say, that was the end of the road for me.
I've had nothing since.
I didn't even know.
Is it an Xbox 1 now?
Well, what came out after an Xbox 360?
Xbox 1.
And is that all there is now?
No, now it's the series S or X.
It's the same thing.
But one is just, you know, specced a little higher,
but you play the same game.
it's essentially.
And what's PlayStation on right now?
PS5, right?
Aren't they?
That sounds right.
Pretty sure.
So is there any talk of like,
is there going to be a PS6?
Like, is there more to be done with these things?
Or is it like?
Because it would, like,
the changes that were made from a PS1 to a PS2.
Oh, that is the thing that's crazy is when you look.
We're so big.
Even a Super Nintendo to a PlayStation,
it's just like the world.
It was like completely different.
I remember when we got N64 of Christmas
as a total surprise, whatever it came out.
I think I was in third grade.
And playing Mario 64 for the first time,
like, this is the future.
We're here.
This is it.
I can run anywhere and do anything.
This is insane.
Things don't change like that now anymore.
No,
now it's like,
oh, yeah, you get faster frame rates,
which is like, yeah,
it's cool from a performance standpoint,
but it's not like changing your whole,
you're not going from 2D to 3D on this thing all of a sudden.
We used to be a proper country when you measured in the bit.
like what I was like, oh no, this is going to 64 bit.
We're going from 32 to 64.
Come on.
We don't care about 60 frames per second here.
I want to play Castlevania when I hit the guy with my whip.
The whole game starts to slow down a little bit because it's working too hard.
It still almost feels like to me though, like going from N64 to PS1, that's where it was like,
where it's like, oh, this is on a disc now.
that was big.
Also,
PS2,
the graphics did take
a pretty big jump to.
Like,
when you look at final,
just look at screenshots
of Final Fantasy 7
because in my mind
was like,
oh, that game had really good graphics.
I'm like,
oh, no,
they were literally just shapes,
like just rectangles.
People were built out of rectangles and triangles.
And then when you go to PS2
and like look at Final Fantasy 10,
it's like, yeah,
these aren't even the same thing at all.
Like, that was a huge leap there.
And now it's like,
it just gets more polished,
I guess.
Did you ever play Chris?
Just one,
I had thought of one other iconic PS1 game.
Did you ever play Crash Bandicoot?
A little bit, yeah.
I did not like it that well, but that seemed like that, I don't know the history or,
but it seemed like PS1, it was like, oh, yeah, this is our Mario is like Crash Bandicoat.
Kind of, yeah, that's kind of how they pitched it.
I feel like, bomb.
I don't, never really liked it, though.
I didn't play a ton of it.
My cousin had it.
And so we go to his house, you know, we played a lot, but we never, we never had that one.
It was no, like, you know, it was, we, we were.
what were sweet games on Super Nintendo was like Diddy Kong country and donkey.
I know.
Like those are classic.
You could just say country and donkey and ditty and whatever combination.
There's a game.
I've never played them as an adult.
And I always thought they had a reputation for being really hard.
Because isn't like I, that games I remember you were like riding on the cart through.
Oh yeah, the roller coaster thing.
Yeah.
Yeah.
There's always the underwater level and the songs.
I'm sure if I loaded it up.
I would just know all the songs in my head.
Like I couldn't tell you a single one now.
But if they play, I'm like, yep,
I could probably just like hum the whole thing
because the same thing.
I had buddies that would play it when I was little
and so we'd watch them play it.
You're a crash bandicoot.
I feel like they wanted Crash Bandicoot
to happen really hard.
You know, they kind of had to.
You know, I got to have a,
got to have that iconic platformer.
Gotta have that guy.
Yeah.
Okay.
So that's gaming.
That's gaming for you.
That's our gaming update.
I mean, okay.
if we're going to say
I got to take a statement back here
I said there wasn't much for first person shooters
still
it would be disrespectful for me
to not mention golden eye when I'm making
that comment you know
yeah we start our show with it every week here
pre-show
yeah I mean that's
that's table stakes
yeah yeah
we'll never forget
I just want to see one more time
if I could find that fighting game
that uh
Yeah, I want to know what fighting game you're talking.
It was like moral combat.
Because I played like every fighting game.
Killer instinct.
Killer instinct.
Oh, yeah.
That was a, uh,
killer instinct.
Yeah,
on Sega Genesis.
I remember because the cartridge,
God,
was the cartridge red?
That's what I was trying to look at.
To me,
it felt like knock off,
Mortal Kombat.
Like,
is that fair to say or is that not right?
Um,
it was kind of in that line.
I felt like,
God,
I haven't looked at it and so like,
I thought it was like three dimensional in the way that you could
like move around like tech in,
but maybe it was,
flat. I mean, the guys looked 3D, but maybe it was flat. God, I forgot about that game.
NFL Blitz was a sick game. Actually, NFL Blitz was my favorite sports game of all time.
That was really freaking fun. Yeah. We played a lot of NFL Blitz. I mean, I also loved NBA Jam.
I mean, NBA Jam was actually good, too. Those were like my style of sports game, a little more arcade, as you know.
A newer version was NBA Street was a really sweet. And actually they came out with NFL Street, which I actually kind of liked, too.
ever played NFL Street at all.
Yeah, it was, they were cool.
I mean, they were just newer versions of, of NFL Blitz, basically, you know.
Yeah.
An NBA Jam.
It made Jam sick, though.
I often consider buying the console of NBA Jam.
The arcade.
Just to play at one, yeah, to play at one time.
And, yeah, the actual, like, the big thing, you know, how people have those in their man cave.
Yeah.
But I just know I'd play it one time for 30 seconds.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Just sucks.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Even though I know that, I still consider wanting it sometimes.
It's just the thing, just to have it.
Yeah, I just really liked the players that you got like, I'm like, oh, yeah, sweet, Horace Grant.
Sucks.
All my guys are here.
Should we bring this bird in for a landing?
Yeah, let's do it.
I got gaming to do.
I got to go.
We stretch this over two hours by talking about gaming.
I know.
I wonder about John Hacks.
We should have talked about games with John Hack.
Yeah.
He's a Roonscape guy.
He's a Roonscape guy.
Do you ever play Roonscape?
I don't even know what it is, honestly.
Nothing comes in my mind.
It's just like when he asked me about the Castlevania thing,
nothing even comes to him.
There again, I've heard the, certainly heard it before.
I just don't have any idea what it is.
Yeah, I didn't really play it much.
I had some friends.
Like, it was like, I feel like that came out right when I was of that age.
And I had some friends.
like Starcraft?
I mean, it's like an online RPG
and it was like free to play
so it had this
interesting following.
What, uh,
I just thought of a game. I want to mention
one more. When I said StarCraft,
Super Nintendo game
where you're like, it's almost
you're driving around, you're like a
fox fighter guy.
Star Fox? Star Fox. There you know. Star Fox.
Yeah. Star Fox. That was a good game, was it not?
Yeah, Star Fox was a good one.
And Star Fox 64 was fun.
And
I don't have any Star Fox.
They don't make very Star Fox.
Horific.
What's that?
The graphics of Star Fox is terrible.
It's just like three of triangles, isn't it?
Yeah, it is just triangles.
I'm like, oh my God, I thought it was like,
oh, yeah, I'm like flying in a plane.
Yeah.
Like it's actually just shapes.
And it's funny how at the time I were thinking,
oh, this is like futuristic.
Yeah, it is just straight up polygons.
China's poly, like, well.
Yeah.
the NES one does not hold up good, at least how it looks.
I mean, iconic, but, yeah, that is Star Fox.
It is bare bones.
Okay.
Should we just, oh, wait, did you, did you do the Strenko?
No, no, oh, I didn't.
Actually, it reminds me.
I remember one time listening to the OK podcast, Grant would talk about how,
when he was kids, they would go somewhere and like clean or do something,
and they'd always hear this arcade.
And he'd be like,
Marvel versus Capcom.
Well,
that's what it was,
but Grant didn't know what it was Capcom.
So he said like,
Com cam or something.
He's like,
and I always remember that arcade machine
would play over and over
Marvel versus Camcom.
And,
oh,
it's Marvel versus Capcom.
And I had it on Dreamcast
and Marvel versus Capcom too.
And Capcom versus S&K
and like I had like 10th.
Actually,
big Chris in Boston
has like all those arcade cabinets
at his house.
So basically every one of those.
Right.
Classic.
Classic games.
All right.
