We don't usually always dive right into the title topic.
But hey, today is a red-letter day.
So our Phoenix home gym tour trip, we toured 10 home gyms
in two and a half days.
It was a wild world wind.
We got back just a couple days ago,
and we're here to tell you all about it.
We already talked about the temperature,
how cold it was.
That was my number one takeaway.
I knew it was lies that it wasn't going to be.
They're like, oh, it's so hot here.
It's so hot.
And what was your actual takeaway from the weather?
That's the lead on the Phoenix story.
What was the weather like?
The actual takeaway, about the dryness?
Just the incredible drug was.
You know, it's the desert.
It's warm.
I wouldn't say it's unbearable by any means.
It was very sunny.
Yeah, that's the biggest one.
The sun just never goes away.
It's just always there.
A lot of direct sunlight on the clouded sun at all times.
You know, like it'd be the times where you'd be on the freeway and you'd go like through a tunnel.
And just the fact that the sun isn't on you all the sudden you instantly feel that.
It was very sunny, very.
bright. I think about 100 degrees almost. Got to say, though, in all honesty, for it being like
100 degrees, it wasn't that bad. Yeah. Is that what you would say? I've for sure have had things in
the 80s feel much worse than that, you know? Yeah, because it was so dry. Yeah. And you know,
you just find the shade. If you find the shade on a 100 degree day, you're golden, man. The,
it really does roast the car interior when it's been parked there. Yes, it does. At all times,
We had the air conditioner going on full blast, and even if we were in the car for an hour, it never got that cold.
It was like all it could just do to stay decent.
I don't know if that's a commentary on, you know, the environment of Phoenix or on the Jeep's ability to make an icy cool.
Jeep's cooling systems.
I'm not sure what one that's commenting on more there.
Maybe a little of a both.
Takes two to tango.
I did get into the vehicle a couple times and the seat actually not just me move away like,
ah, that's hot, where I'm like, oh, my hand is touching a burning stove.
I have to remove it.
I got that sensation at least twice, once on my leg and once on my hand on the steering wheel
where I actually thought I was experiencing a burn on my skin.
Yeah, it was the first time we got in, or the first time we got in where that happened.
I remember you were both opening the door to here, ah, ha, like something bad.
happened.
It's like,
my legs.
Yeah.
And there again,
it wasn't like,
ah,
this is hot.
It was like,
ah,
I just touched something
that I'm burning from,
you know,
like I just think I have a mild burn
on my body from that.
Yeah,
outside of that,
it's the sunlight,
really.
And just,
if you can just be out of the direct sun,
it's not that bad.
Yeah.
But it was a little warm.
Yeah.
It's a little toasty for sure.
Okay.
So we flew out of Sioux
falls on Friday morning, as we usually do.
Actually, not that early for us.
Yeah, we, we woke up at 6 a.m., which is basically a regular day.
A couple of hours later than we normally do.
Yeah, worst case scenarios and we have to wake up at like 350, you know,
for a flight that leaves at 440 or something like that.
Yeah, and that does happen.
Those ones are rough when you're going east and you're losing an hour.
When the alarm goes off on those mornings, that's when I'm,
I have that moment of confusion.
where I'm like, oh, why is the alarm going off in the middle of the night?
And where am I?
It's like, I just fell asleep what's going on here.
Yes.
Everyone knows that feeling.
And when it goes off at 6 a.m., I never have that.
You know, it might get up for the day.
Right.
Not like, oh, my God, what?
This is a mistake who accidentally set my alarm off right now.
I don't know how I actually feel until I get out of bed.
This could be bad.
You know, you don't know what you're in for.
Right.
So it wasn't that.
plane trip there was all
it was actually a direct flight there
yeah we don't get a whole lot of direct flights
so when we do almost never
actually I'd like Chicago flying to
Chicago which there's no choice
there's nowhere they could connect to some
basically we gotta connect you
in Minneapolis for you to go to show you
what do you drink in there
is that an Arizona tea
99 cents? This is a polar
blackberry mango
blackberry mango
Oh my gosh.
What were they smoking over there in the polar factory?
I don't know, but I want some of it.
I don't know, but I'll take some.
Well, if you think so that, if you think that's good,
I think you're going to love this one.
A little special one for a special occasion.
You have my attention.
Is that Lemoncello?
Oh, my God.
I'd as well shut this down right now.
A guy bringing Lemoncello to the party.
It's all fun in games until someone brings the lemoncello LeCroyo.
Hmm.
Now that's odd.
Now that's odd flavor.
That is the correct answer, yes.
Hmm.
Odd.
We really hit the ground running.
Oh, rental car, just got to bring it up every time.
They want you to check in ahead of time to avoid the line.
They don't let you avoid the line, though.
Check, I did all the things.
Check in ahead of time either, no matter how many times you do it.
No, I checked in and they make you answer all the questions online, multiple times, and then in person again.
And they notoriously, even hurts, which is kind of a bit, you know, we've done them all.
They love to do the insurance thing.
Every time they do the insurance thing, where they say, would you like, or the premium insurance.
Your answer?
None of them.
And I said that right away.
and I almost could visibly see the guy lose interest in the entire process when I said that.
Like,
because I also said it in a way where I'm,
it was probably obvious that this wasn't our first.
Listen,
buddy,
let's quit wasting each other's time here and get to the point.
I've checked it online four times.
I don't even want to be talking to you in the first place.
I feel like maybe you didn't notice this,
but I feel like he became like visibly disinterested in the whole process.
Well, I was already visibly disinterested the second that question came up.
And I, I just looked away.
I'm like, my God,
we're still playing these stupid games.
games here. Aren't we all adults? Can't we quit pretending that we don't have an option? And he's like,
which insurance company is it? Yeah. And I've, that's the hardest question for me in the world under
the gun. I immediately lose, I've been bombarded for 25 years with nothing but vehicle insurance
commercials. And when that question comes up to me, I'm like, I cannot think of a single vehicle
insurance company. I don't, okay, the only, the only logical reason, God, I
know we do this rant every time we go on a trip, but this is how absurd.
It's worth it.
It's just worth bringing up every time.
They're going to be like this.
We're going to have to do it every time.
The only logical reason to ask your insurance company is if they are required by,
like, law to list the insurance company on the thing.
But why do they care?
That's not their problem, is it?
I feel like they just want to ask you follow up questions.
They're like, no, if you're not going to buy one of these from us, we're going to make
this painful for you.
We're not just going to easily allow you not.
And just to be clear, we just say whatever random insurance company comes to mine.
We've said progressive.
We said all state.
We've said state farm.
There's no checks, no nothing.
They just need an answer.
Well, that's also like nobody's ever heard of my insurance.
That's what I used to have an insurance company that's very regional.
And there's no way anyone had ever heard of that before.
So again, what are they going to do?
We just make up a name of one.
Be like, uh, Timmy's good.
Asinomac State.
Suck my balls.
Give us our keys.
Get the hell out of here.
So we got our Jeep compass, not a sweet, sweet little ride in the Jeep compass.
We went to our first, we just immediately went to our first place.
We were just maybe like five, ten minutes out of schedule by the time we got there.
Basically, yeah.
And we're in the Scottsdale area for the first one, and it was Big Tim.
I think he's retired 50, something like that on Jim Radar.
Big Tim is a longtime supporting member of Mass.
I never met him at anything before.
Nope.
I didn't even fully recall what he looked like.
I kind of knew some of his story.
Tim is in his 60s, a retired police officer from the Phoenix area.
He's got a really cool gym, garage gym,
and then his outdoor strongman pitch, he calls it,
which is his side and backyard with turf,
that he does all his strongman stuff,
where he bakes himself out there in the sun.
And the one note I have about,
Tim is I'm pretty sure he's painted every single thing in his gym at least twice.
The walls, the ceiling, the equipment.
It's all been painted because it's funny because as the tour goes on,
Tanner, you start going.
And let me guess, you painted this one too, haven't you, Tim?
He goes, yep, I've painted that twice.
His wife even came out, yeah.
He's like, don't let him around the spray paint.
Or, you know, he goes, like our walls are.
Yeah, the room is actually several inches narrower because there's
so much paint on the wall, she said, which was really funny.
Yeah, and he had just painted the American flag on the inside of his garage door,
which is really cool.
Oh, it looked the paint.
Yeah, the paint looked really good.
It was legit.
I like it.
Well, he's got a lot of paint practice.
So, you know, it's going to be good.
It's all been leading up to this.
And Tim, you know, you'll see the tour when it comes out.
But interesting stuff with him, you know, he throws discus as a master.
You know, he did it in college at a high level.
And now in his 60s, it continues.
He continues to do it. He competes in strong man and powerlifting and stuff too.
And Tim Strong.
Yeah.
To his 60s, you know, did lifting over 500 pounds.
Yeah.
Crazy.
Any other notes on the first stop?
I'm just thinking there.
That's one of 10.
Yeah, I'm trying to think.
So his side little outdoor strip was really cool.
You know, he had that turf strip down.
That black equipment does get very hot.
It was roast.
Yeah.
I think you kind of stood under the yoke.
I did the yoke with my shirt on.
And it, the cross.
Cross bar was really hot on my back.
Like it might have even been uncomfortable to even try and do.
Yep.
Yep.
But yeah, it was a good gym.
I felt like it really, really set the pace for the weekend.
Yeah.
Okay.
Second stop on the trip.
We went to Brandon.
Serio.
Is it Serio strong?
I think on gym radar.
We found him from putting out our all points bulletin.
on Instagram.
We started to do a thing.
If we're looking at potential regions of the country,
we put out a
Instagram post saying,
hey, if you got a home gym and you're here
and you're not on Jim radar yet,
get on Jim radar so we can check out your gym
and potentially do that.
He did that.
He answered the call.
We saw his gym.
We're like, yep, we're going to come see you.
So we popped over there.
Was that, where does he,
what region, what direction of Phoenix?
He was on the north end of Phoenix.
Yeah, towards the north side.
one of the more northern ones that we went to.
And he's got a garage gym.
Not a single basement gym tour out of the 10.
Not very Midwest.
Not a whole lot of basements in Phoenix.
No.
No, no basements.
So he's got a nice, like two stalls of a three-stall garage.
He is a firefighter.
And he's got some, he just even like his posters and banners and stuff,
you can tell he's been around the scene for a little while.
He's got a lot of the classics on the wall like Lift Evil and, of course,
Masonomic stuff, multiple other brands.
That was just one thing I noted from it.
He has a mini split in his, so it was cool.
His was very cool and comfortable.
And that was, you know, most people that had a garage gym did have a mini split.
Right.
Kind of made me jealous thinking, oh, man, I did get one of these for the summertime
because it feels much nicer.
Yes.
He also had a pretty crazy cardio collection for a home gym.
We don't see.
That life fitness.
Probably the first home gym we've ever been to with multiple treadmills in it.
Yeah, and like commercial level treadmills in it too.
Chris Madiato had his, his and hers.
You're right.
They did have his and hers.
But they were both kind of the same.
They weren't a motorized.
I think Antonio had his and hers treadmills also.
You're right.
Because he said he and his wife will hold hands while they, yeah.
His and hers treadmills is a thing, I guess.
More popular than you'd think.
But, yeah, this was the first one to have the motorized life fitness
and then the, what was it, the assault runner?
Is that the other one he had?
Yes.
Yes.
Wrap up that one.
Did we go eat then after that?
We were already getting ahead of schedule.
Actually.
Is that when we went to?
We made an out stop.
Yeah.
In and out is good.
I don't know if we ever really have recapped it
because we were talking about other stuff,
but in and out is good.
Well, the thing is, you go there.
You get a double cheeseburger, you get fries, you get a milkshake,
and both of us get that, and it's like $22.
And we walked away and we're like, how is that that cheap?
Nothing is that cheap anymore.
But apparently they are somehow.
And it's good.
And it's good.
Yes.
What do you think?
On a, where do you rank?
I don't know why.
I think we've even compared about at the.
the time, but we did get animal style.
Yeah, I always do.
We don't got to get animal style.
You can't tell us to get animal style when we already get animal style.
A lot of times to do the animal style fries, but I did not do it this time.
We compare, how do you compare five guys to in and out for maybe two people that, if they
don't regionally have both or something like that?
I mean, the, the experience is pretty similar, but it feels.
similar inside. It kind of even looked similar almost to me. I think five guys is probably double
the cost somehow. I think it's five guys because it's five times as expensive. It seems to be the case.
It's five X the price. I could have swore when we were in Connecticut and we ate at five guys. We
did this exact same thing. It costs like a hundred dollars for two people to get a burger at five guys.
I could have swore it was over $50 for the two of us to eat there somehow. We're still trying to pay that
off. Yeah. We put that on Clarna.
Yeah. But it's good. It's just, it's good.
But which, okay, so five guys is a five times as expensive. Is it any better?
Like, is there a better? I mean, given the choice, I know, I know it's not five times better.
Is it point five times better? I'm not sure it's actually any better to be honest.
Okay, that's what I'm saying. Like, it's, it is good though. Like, it's not bad, like five guys is still good.
It's just, I think it's any,
do you think it's any better?
Or do you think it's any better?
And maybe it's because we don't have it in and out here.
So it's more of a treat.
But like given the choice,
I would pick in and out every time.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like one time we went to San Francisco like 10 years ago
when there happened to be an in and out
across the street from our hotel.
And me and old flying Ryan,
we ate there once every day.
We were there.
I think one day we actually ate there twice
because it was really late.
We're like,
we could do it again.
And I would never in a million years
do that with five guys.
Yeah.
But not eat it every day.
They do give you more fries at five guys
because they usually fill the bag,
plumb full of fries.
No,
I know.
I actually don't.
I am the king of not giving a crap about that.
But like,
it doesn't adjust for the extra $50 in cost.
No.
Not what.
Yeah,
of that half a potato that they included.
Okay.
So our third stop on our first day,
which was Friday,
was,
Was that Jerry?
Big Jerry's.
Big Jerry Pritchett.
Of, of course, most well known for the Pritchett pad.
Right.
Yes, the inventor of the Pritchett pad.
Jerry Pritchett.
We're like, we got to get a hold of this home gym nerd and see what it's like.
That's because we were joking.
Like, maybe there's some people that don't know anything.
I mean, this is probably true.
There's people that don't know anything about Strongman never fall.
it but they're big home gym nerds and they know about the Pritchett pad from Rogue Fitness.
And so like that's how they would know Jerry Pritchett, which is laughable to us because we've, you know,
followed his journey over the last decade plus of being, you know, one of the strongest guys in the world.
So Jerry's, we went to, Jerry has a home gym in Phoenix and he also has his shop gym, which is attached to his metal fab shop.
and we went to the metal fab shop.
That's like his,
I'm glad we went to that one because it's insane.
Like that,
the equipment that he has there,
the number of stories and everything,
that tour ends up being very,
because this is fresh on my memory,
it's very much a Brad Gillingham,
Jackals, Jim tour.
Like, if you liked that one,
you're going to like this one.
Yeah, with even way more custom equipment.
Basically everything in there he had built, you know?
Yes.
and every strong man implement you can think of pretty much.
I do like we got out.
It's, you know, this is Phoenix, like by the airport,
probably one of the oldest parts of the city and industrial area.
And we park behind a chain link fence area because there's nowhere to park that we can see.
It's very industrial.
And you know you're in an industrial area when all you see is chain link fences with barbed wire over them, you know.
Yes.
We go rolling into some gate because we saw the,
We saw the address, but it was on a busy road and there was no parking lot.
So we just pulled into the first parking lot attached to the building.
And, yeah, the first thing we do is get out and we hear, and there's a pit bull like looking right at us.
And it's like a junkyard.
It's basically like the junkyard dog pit bull.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's just roaming free, staring at us.
And there's like some guys off working somewhere.
Okay.
Are we in the right spot?
And this guy came over.
He's like, what's up, guys?
Like, we're looking for Jerry.
He goes, I don't know him.
And you're like,
the guy in the metal shop over here,
he's like,
yeah,
okay,
well,
you can hang out.
That's cool.
So he's stood there for a while.
As the dog,
like,
came up to us and sniffed us
and we were really,
really hoping he wasn't going to bite us.
Yeah,
a little,
I'm not like afraid of dogs with that one.
I'm like,
it's going to attack.
This would be the one.
Yes.
And then eventually,
we did hook up with Jerry there
and we got inside.
We were kind of in the wrong.
I mean,
we were in the right spot, but we just didn't park in the right spots.
Right.
We got it straightened out.
Right.
And we got to play around with some of the equipment in his gym.
So it was Jerry and macho and is it Danielle?
Yep.
And Bubba.
Yep.
And those four and us too.
We hung out in there for a little while before we even started where we were just kind of
shooting the breeze, I guess.
But I mean, as we normally do on any tour.
And then we were really looking at the equipment and we did the tour.
And then was it after the tour that we did the Hercules hold?
Yeah.
So he's got.
And we didn't even really get that much footage of this because it was kind of after the fact.
But yeah, the tour was done and like, yeah, you got to try this Hercules hold out.
And it was really sweet.
Like they had this kind of like turnbuckle lever system where you can sort of just like ease it on and off of you.
So you don't get that jarring thing of the Hercules hold not setting right.
Yeah, it was really cool.
Yeah, it was like, yeah, you guys got to try this when the tour is done.
And so at first, you know, we do it empty.
And I'm like, oh, cool, yeah, we tried it.
And then it's like, oh, we better throw a plate on there.
Well, an empty is not no weight.
No, it's, first of all.
If there's the, you know, there's this giant, no, but I mean, it's not nothing.
Like, it's still these empty, there's these giant battle acts of things.
But it's not like a super heavy or anything.
No.
You could hang on for a minute plus easily, you know.
Right.
Yes.
Yes.
So we tried it.
And he's like, all right, we better throw a plate on.
on there.
He's like,
okay,
I guess we'll do this one more time.
And we got,
like,
yeah,
it's not too bad.
He's like,
well,
let's put one more plate
on there.
So he's two plates on it now.
And we do it.
It's like,
okay,
it's getting a little heavier.
And then we walk away and like,
we better throw one more plate on there.
I'm like,
okay.
Okay,
how much are we going here?
And so you went first and,
uh,
you know,
it didn't look like you're really struggling that much,
but it also didn't look as easy as the other ones too.
I'm like,
oh, Tanner's actually trying now.
Well,
I was trying because when Jerry is there and tells you try this and keeps adding on the weight,
it's a little bit of a motivation factor that you're like, okay, now I have to like prove that I'm not a bitch.
Exactly.
So Tanner goes, I'm like, God, okay, all right.
I guess I got to go too.
And, you know, same thing.
Loaded it up for a little while.
And, you know, we didn't want to slam it down and drop it.
So we were just telling them to take it when we got enough.
but I felt pretty good about myself when I walked away from that one.
I'm like, all, we did something.
And then I guess after three plates, we all decided that was enough.
So, yeah, I feel like we got, we passed their seal of approval on that one, though,
where we weren't just, uh, home gym nerds.
We weren't just home gym nerds to them that they're like, okay, you guys passed.
Yeah.
There was a little bit of a testing going on there, I think.
Kind of an initiation of sorts.
Yes.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's right.
And that was good.
And yeah, that whole gym, though, was just so crazy with.
Did you say, like, that gym is the one where they do more event-specific training, like his...
Yeah, they train there at once a...
They do event training once a week, and they always do it there.
So, some enormous sandbags and stone, you know, 500-pound Atlas stones, 400-plus-pound sandbags, like IFSA shield replicas.
Basically, if Jerry thought he was going to have it in a competition, he would just make what he thought was the closest thing to it.
Yeah, 300 pound empty logs and just like all this insanely heavy stuff.
Yeah.
That tour is going to be really cool.
You know, I think a lot of people, if you're a strongman fan or into strongman equipment, any of that stuff, it's going to be pretty cool.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And we talk a lot of stories along the way, lifting stories.
So it was fun.
That was also cool when Jerry's like, I can't remember what we were saying.
He's like, yeah, you guys actually did a tour with me or an interview with me about 10 years ago.
It's like, oh, yeah.
Yes, we're aware.
Yeah.
Yes, we didn't.
You would remember that, but we remember.
Yep.
Next stop was our final stop of Friday.
Yes.
Which took us to B.J. Davies.
Yes.
Yes.
Okay.
On the south side.
It is so hard for my brain to remember all of these.
Yeah.
And, yeah, BJ was another interesting one because it was a guy we had no connection to prior to this.
We found him from that also.
he was this other, the two of two that mentioned Brandon before,
BJ was the other guy that we found because of that Instagram post, actually.
He came out of the woodwork and got on Jim radar and we're like, okay,
this looks like a place we need to get to.
And it was dark by the time we got there.
And we pulled up to his garage and BJ is a buyer and seller of machines.
Well, as a side thing.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But like you can just tell when you walk up, his home gym is not like your normal home gym.
You can't even see where the rack is at when you walk up.
It's the most commercial pieces we've ever seen in a home gym probably ever, isn't it?
It's got to be, at least for like a traditional home, you know, not necessarily Jujifu Jim home.
Yeah.
You know, but yeah, it's wild.
Not counting Jugi, I think it has to be the most.
I don't know what else would even.
Also it has more commercial machines in it than Massonomics does.
Yeah.
Yeah, and like it has more than Jose's does because Jose's got a lot.
But also the thing about BJ's is he's probably got 20 different brands of equipment machines.
You know, it's just anything you can name, it's in there.
And other important notes, he's jacked out of his mind.
He's enormous.
Yeah, he's huge.
Just jacked.
And he knows his machines too.
Like, it's not like he just randomly arrived at like 20-some machines in his gym.
He's, you know, they're all, that's, yeah, they're all for a specific reason.
This one stays here because I love what this does.
I have a storage unit that has this and this, and they're good, but I don't bring them in here because these are the best ones.
Like, he's very intentional with what he has there.
Yeah, I don't think BJ is an actively competing bodybuilder now, but he has been in the past.
And he, you can tell he's done some bodybuilding by looking at him.
You know, like it's very obvious with his muscle mass.
Yeah.
And that was a really fun tour for me.
watching because one, it looks so different because it was nighttime and it wasn't super bright
in there.
So it has a different look than almost any tour we've done.
Right.
Just the number of machines where it was just like, man, like, you know, I think it starts
pretty early on your, you know, he has the Sybex Smith machine.
Then he has the Sybex.
What's that leg press called by them?
It's not the leg press, but the power press.
Or no, the, that's not right.
I'm mixing up the air.
I can never remember what that's called.
It's the Sybex leg press thing, but it like the platform kind of pivots away from you sort of.
Yeah. I can't remember.
Yeah.
You had that.
I mean, a bunch of prime stuff.
Did he have like three prime machines and the full prime rack?
Yeah.
Several hammer strength.
Selectorized hammer strength machines.
He's never seen a selectorized one.
That was really cool.
Yeah.
Just a ton of good stuff.
A lot of back machines, though.
I mean, every other machine was basically a back machine.
in there. Yeah.
So we wrapped up there
and we got checked in
to our accommodations
which are very cool.
We were, I mean,
did Big Scott say we're allowed to say
where accommodations were? Actually.
I think you would allow a supporting member
who will tour.
He hooked us up with our accommodation.
So we actually got to stay at the Great Wolf Lodge
of the Greater Phoenix area for both nights.
and we got to mention it because it was so cool.
We walked in and the mini fridge,
there was a card there for us and, you know,
the card said, you know, Tanner and Tommy welcome.
And can't remember exactly what he says,
but it's like, oh, we got to check out the fridge.
So we open it up and it's stocked with beer, sparkling water,
and cottage cheese.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And there was a note.
We were dying at that point.
Yeah.
It had been a long day.
And when we saw that, we were laughing pretty hard.
Yeah.
So that was fun.
That wrapped up our first day.
You also forgot we ended the day at some fine Arizona eating.
Oh.
Yeah, that's right.
You know, by the time.
A local little restaurant.
A little local establishment.
By the time we got done with all these and back to our hotel, it was about 10 o'clock.
actually we didn't even check into the hotel because it was about 10 o'clock and we hadn't
eight yet so we went uh we looked at what was in the area and what was open and it was pretty
much just chains in the area but that worked out just fine because one of the chains was
the old Texas roadhouse and they have not let us down yet and if you've been a listener for a while
you know we hit up the Texas roadhouse on a road trip and whenever possible also just talk
about quality and fair pricing man I don't know how they do it over there
It is really consistent across the board where we've been.
You know, the food, the steak is always cooked well.
The steak is always great, honestly.
Like, I just have nothing but good things to say about.
It's always a ton of food.
And the price is totally, like, the price is actually cheap in comparison to a lot of places
charge for that now.
And I never leave hungry.
We do go places where we leave hungry sometimes.
Yeah, that happens at least once a trip, sometimes multiple times a trip.
Yeah.
That never happens there.
I remember at the end, we know, we're sitting there and we're just like,
oh, God, this is just so good every time.
And then when the worker comes over, he's like, all right, I got to know.
Who benches more?
No, he starts asking us all the questions.
I don't know if we've ever gone on a trip where so many random people have like said something about us lifting or something like that.
Yeah, that was the first one.
Getting off the airplane, the male flight attendant is like, oh, wow.
As we're like walking out the door.
Your first.
He's like, oh, man, baby.
guy.
And then I go by,
oh,
both you are just big.
It's like,
I don't know if that was the exact words,
but it was,
it was 90% that.
And I'm like,
that's what it was.
It's an odd way of putting that.
Oh,
so big.
Both of you.
Yeah.
And then what was that time
you were coming out of the gas station?
Yeah.
When I was coming out of the gas station that night,
it was that night.
There was a lady getting out of her vehicle and she looked.
there was a lady getting out of her vehicle
and what did she say?
Oh, she goes, oh, I was walking out of the convenience story.
She goes, oh, just such a big burly guy and looking all burly with that beard.
Yeah.
And I was like, thanks.
And I was standing off to the side because I had left the gas station before you.
And so I saw it happen from afar, but I couldn't hear it.
And I was like, what was that, Tanner?
I'm paraphrasing again because I can't,
but it was, that's like, was the phrasing,
was like the phrasing is like,
oh, just such a big burly guy and just burly with that beard.
So, yeah, so there was that,
this is all the first day still.
And then, yeah, when we go to Texas Roadhouse and the guy's like,
all right, who can bench more here?
Who can squat more?
How many days a week?
How many hours do I got to work out like just wanting the full,
talking about calories and stuff?
And he's like, you know how many calories are in one of those buns baskets?
Bunch baskets that I sometimes eat like four of when we're there.
I'm not sure if he had that right.
But yeah, did he say like 1,400?
That seemed like too many.
Yeah.
Or did he say 1140 or something?
It was like 12.
It was over a thousand for the basket, which just seemed like a lot.
He was putting them at 300 calories apiece.
Yeah.
Maybe that's right.
I don't know.
I also don't care at that time.
there for the calories.
Yeah, we need the calories.
Yeah.
And then the Great Wolf Lodge was a great place to end the night at, though.
Biggest, biggest hotel room we've ever had ever.
By far.
Two separate bedrooms, a living room, two separate bathrooms,
just really living the high life up there.
Yes.
Yeah, it was interesting checking in there in the evening.
We really didn't get any funny looks,
but it's outwardly funny to me if I was to be watching it.
that it's just two guys checking in with no kids
at a place where typically you would have kids along with you.
I think we should take a break right there at the end of day one
to cover a few other things like number one are drop
that by the time you're listening to this
as the recording has come out of a drop happened.
So it was a restock of the red proper country
32 ounce cup.
We've had that two times prior,
both times it sold out in the first day
in like an hour or two.
Did we finally get enough this time?
Yeah, maybe this will be the final time we get it.
So maybe this is your final chance to get one.
If there's one left now,
I would get it because maybe we're not getting them back soon
because we're going to reach a tipping point on that
where they don't just sell out immediately.
And we don't want hundreds of red cups
sitting around here forever.
So was your chance at that?
Do we want to talk about either the other new items?
Yeah, we can.
Two items.
We got some live listeners.
So are the live listeners just going to get a sneak peek of what we got going on here?
That's fine.
Okay.
So one of the items, you don't have either of them there, do you?
No, they're both.
Oh, God, that just reminded me.
I got to do laundry tomorrow morning.
Wash those things.
Yeah, let me grab.
One I got very sweaty on the trip.
How'd you get sweaty with how dry it was?
You weren't looking.
I got a little workout in.
That's the only reason I got a sweat going.
Okay.
This first item is out of the vault for the first time,
and I think about seven years, six to seven years.
This time it is on a comfort color shirt.
It is black.
You can have any comfort color shirt you want as long as it's black.
On the front,
we have this neon massonomics logo on the front chest on the back is the classic neon lift hard
leave easy only released once i think in about the year 2019 we had this year one time ago actually
yeah yeah that's like a seven year old design yep wow and uh a very classic one always liked
this one i don't actually know i don't know if i ever even got that one i'm not sure okay
It's always a fan of this one.
Yeah, that's a good one.
Yep.
So the lift hard.
And the print came out really good on it too.
Neon.
Yes,
there is like a very subtle kind of shadow effect on the letters on the back.
Yes.
And it's like a 50-50,
how good that's going to turn out and it turned out perfect.
Yeah,
it's better than ever,
honestly,
I think.
Then this next item,
never before seen.
Have you worn this ever yet?
No,
I actually haven't even put it on.
I haven't either yet.
This is, I think yesterday or sometime this week was the first day of autumn.
It was also coincidentally the first day of fall.
And we have just.
They lined up this year?
Yeah, this year did.
It's because it's a leap year, I think.
Fall and autumn start at the same time.
This is, you're going to blend right in wherever you're at,
but yet stand out at the same time.
And you're going to do it, stay in nice and warm and toasty in this camo, long,
sleeve tea with the varsity
blaze orange massonomics across the chest.
Yeah, it's good.
This is a real tree.
In person.
Yeah, it's a real tree camo,
color.
It's like dark wood.
Something like that, if I'm remembering, right,
it's a darkwood camo,
real camo with that blaze orange.
Kind of has those stone cold vibes a little bit to it,
you know? Yep.
If you're going
Feasant hunting this year at all
It would be the perfect
A perfect garment
To be wearing for that as well
And it is long-sleeved
100% cotton
That's the camo varsity long-sleeved tea
Okay
Is that it?
Just the two shirts in the cup?
Just the two shirts in the cup
That's it.
All right
Do we also want to do
Supporting our supporting members?
Oh, hell yeah.
Okay, this is a relatively new segment
to the podcast is just now the 47th time we're going to do it here in season one or season
two of the podcast. What this is, we have our supporting membership program. The supporting
membership program is the number one way you can support Mastonomics. You can do a lot of different
things to support us, but probably still today, even with everything that we have going on,
the best thing you can do is become a supportive member. So if you're a listener of the show,
you're an enjoyer and you're not a supporting member yet.
We would love and be honored to have you sign up.
There's multiple membership options.
You don't have to choose the most expensive one.
You can choose any of them and we'd be happy to have you at any level.
You get many things in return.
A couple times a year we send out free gifts in the mail to everyone.
You'd see your way to get signed up for any of our events.
We have one in December coming up in Crew Falls for just for supporting members.
I think there's now 48 people signed up for that event.
We have our Lift Hardly Easy Classic.
That's a strongman end power lifting and grip competition.
If you're a supporting member,
you get first dibs at signing up for any of those.
And basically nobody gets to sign up that's not a supporting member
because supporting members fill it all up.
Many other things like making it onto this segment,
Big Brandon did his first meet in three years with new hips.
He squatted 677, bench 474-7, and deadlifted.
at 585.
Dang.
Sounds like a good way
to break those things in.
No kidding.
Big Debo surpassed 400
win mark as a high school
tennis coach.
All right.
Hang the banners.
Yep.
Big Mike competed at Neptune's
strongest.
He got second place
in the Open's men's
heavyweight and qualified
for USS Nats.
Nice.
Big Steve and Big Joey
went on a natural
Stonehike. Big Matt
Sazni
competed at 2026 Niagara Celtic
Highland Games where he
even won the extra event. The extra
bonus event was a keg over
Barr. He got first place in that.
Big Alde Gregg got third
place at 2026 Woodridge
Highland Games in the Men's Open
Class. Static Monster
Worlds was actually going on
in Phoenix while we were there.
Big Jared was there
competing and Big Toby was there
volunteering on Sunday
and they are both representatives
of the MSS
NMX license plate. Big Jared
from Montana, Big Toby
from Arizona of course and those two
got together for a picture.
This week's guest
on unpaid and underrated was
actually all six
of the Hall of Fame Cup level
women in the
Masonomics supportive member. That's right.
Becoming a Massonomic
supporting member is not just for men.
Women can do it too.
It's just mostly for men.
It's just mostly men, but you can't do it if you're a woman.
It's not discouraged.
It just doesn't often happen.
So on this week's guest on half-baked thoughts on training,
our drunken uncle podcast in the Masonomics podcast, Greater Universe,
was former Massanomics podcast guest, Big Nick Camby.
The one and only.
And Big Chris was also on there.
Yes.
So that is this week's supporting our supporting members.
You know, I never realized.
It's because they're keeping it very regional, isn't it?
It was, that's what they were doing.
There was a Boston thing.
Yep.
Yep.
Yep.
Yep.
It was a Boston thing.
Yep.
Yeah.
Okay.
Do you want to kick everyone out before we recap?
Or do we want to recap it?
Do we want to let them hear any of a recap of day two of the event?
No, they'll have to catch that later.
all right you're going to have to catch that uh we tour we've got six more tours that we've made
made on the trip so you're going to have to catch those when this episode comes out next week
the flippity flop. Yep. Well Tommy is giving everyone the boot and reporting them for
malfeasance to the Zoom powers that be. I'll mention you can head over to barefoot dot store.
we talked about Friday all day Friday I wore my barefoot shoes I wore the what was I
wearing I was wearing the ursus generation one all day low tops and man do those keep my feet
comfy on a travel day I'll tell you that real super comfy in the all black yeah mine
aren't even really black anymore mine are kind of turning brown I've worn those so much
I can speak to their durability though because I wear those shoes
every single day to work.
I wear them most times when we do Manistinomics stuff.
I just,
I wear them on the weekends.
I kind of just wear those shoes all the time.
And they're probably the least rugged,
seeming shoes that I have.
And I have put them through just more than just about anything I've ever,
any shoe that I've ever worn.
And I've got other barefoot shoes,
but I just kind of really like those ones.
So I just keep wearing them even though they get raggedy.
Yeah.
But they do hold up.
They are also the least structured of all of their shoes.
So I kind of like them because they're just extremely comfortable.
Yeah.
It's like wearing a moccasin around, basically.
You can buy those or any of their shoes at barefoot.
Store and you can use discount code.
Massonomics, they'll save you 10% on any order.
Thank you, barefoot.
So Saturday, what the heck happened in Phoenix?
Just as cold as ever.
Freezing.
It's frigid in the morning.
Wake up.
Was it straight to Toby's?
Wake up!
Is that where you went though?
Toby's right off the bat?
Yeah, Toby's.
No AC, so we want to do that one first.
And it's
maybe it's even better than what it's cracked up to be, you know?
Yeah, big Toby Hall of Fame jacket
level crew member.
Bend to lift, Hardly vizy classic,
three times at least.
Bend do crew falls.
He's visit us so many times we said, Toby, we're going to visit you this time.
You just stay put right there.
We'll be coming to you.
Star of the most viral Massonomics video ever.
Yes, the video of he and Alan Larson doing the horse stall mat, tiebreaker, gripper has been viewed over 20 million times collectively where it's been posted in various areas.
And many comments about how he and Alan have chicken legs.
I think we even talk about that in the gym tour
How it's funny because you know
They can both like deadlift like 700 pounds
But yet their legs are just so so so small
It's just the tiniest of chicken legs
Everyone on the internet
I mean it's just actually what people do
They want to say
They see someone do something strong
Or you know
Or like someone that is big and they're like
Oh chicken legs
And I'm like
These guys don't even
have small legs.
Like,
like,
they might even,
they're probably lart,
their legs are probably big even for their size.
Like if you just like actually took like some measurements and average,
you know,
they're way bigger,
going to be way bigger than average population.
But they might even just have big legs for their size compared to people.
Yep.
And I'm like,
also their shorts go down to their knees.
How do you even know if they have small legs?
Well,
you know,
they can imagine what it'd be like.
I'm not really sure.
But it's when they see someone doing something strong
and they want to be like,
ah, small legs.
But seriously,
they have absolutely tiny legs.
Yeah.
Anything else from Toby's also,
we mentioned we got to see the MSS and MX license plate
live and in person for the first time.
Yes,
got to see one of those.
His daughter gave us some great art projects.
Oh, yeah.
Some great fan heart.
Oh, oops.
Max not letting people join.
What am I doing here?
No, people don't get to join now.
It's too late.
You gave them a taste of the good stuff and then kicked him back out.
They're like, oh, what's going on?
There's not more where that came from.
What's going on in there?
Finished up at Toby's.
He's got the map.
Like we have at Massonomics gym,
so we both got to put our pins in the map.
We both pinned at Toby's gym.
And then we went to our second stop.
which was just literally like five minutes down the road.
Wayland's garage gym.
And Waylands was all,
Waylands might have been one of the hotter ones
because it was getting to be,
it wasn't early morning and his wasn't aced.
So we were there at like say 10, 11 a.m.
And it was warming up a little bit.
And we were getting some definite sunlight into the,
it was starting to hit us a little bit there.
And Wayland, we met at home gym con this year for the first time.
Yep.
You know, certified training facility, obviously.
and he's got a cool attachment wall, a variety of equipment.
You know, he's got that inspire functional trainer rack,
and he's kind of talking about changes he's making,
working on making in his gym.
Pretty wide variety of attachments, too.
Yeah.
Actually, he's got a lot of stuff that you'll see, like, on Jim Radar, too.
I think if you just browse a lot of the most own stuff on Jim Radar,
he's got a lot of that.
Then third stop was,
third stop
Friday
was what
was it John
oh yeah
the sand tan barbell club
so that was our farthest out of
the heart of Phoenix
was way to the south
we went down to big John's
gym and John has a true power lifters
home gym in his garage I would say
that's nice you know he's definitely got
mini split no it also has a mini split
and that's a full three stall garage so he's got a big
garage gym that was nice and cool when we're in there.
And he's got all the typical power lifter stuff.
You know, he's got all the good bars.
He's got monolith attachments in his power rack.
And he has some machines and stuff in there also.
SpotMax MD.
I mean, yeah, he had a great setup.
He had a really good setup.
He's actually sent me a picture.
His rogue donkey showed up like a day after we left.
Oh, he did.
Yeah.
And he did have a water soft water and hard bodies.
DJ just had a hookup for a water softener.
He didn't have one in, actually.
But John had the water softener.
Yeah, because soft water and hard bodies.
And he knew the joke from Kevin's, Kevin Ray Hill's gym.
So it is funny as we're going on more of these tours,
especially the people that watch the tours,
they kind of know some of the things that are coming based on what has happened in prior ones.
These idiots only have 10 lines.
I know what they're going to say here.
Get these guys around a water softener, you can't shut them up.
His water softener was very tall and skinny.
A little different than the ones we have.
Yeah.
Very tall.
It almost looked like a gas cylinder.
Yeah, it did.
You might use for like welding.
Yeah, exactly.
Yes, it did.
That's exactly what it looked like.
Yeah, must be in Arizona.
It's probably because it's so dry and cool there.
Probably.
The salt behaves differently in water.
Yeah, normal one would probably freeze up if I had it there.
It's probably something for that.
Right.
We must have ate at some point in time there then after that, didn't we?
Yes, we went to that.
Oh, yeah.
We met with big sporting member, big Matt.
Oh, and also Dan Mercer was at Toby's too.
So we got to meet another sporting member that we never met.
Yes, that's right.
before because there's a few home
gyms that we wanted to tour on this that we literally
just didn't have enough time because we packed as much
as we could and there was a few that
we just couldn't coordinate at the end. Dan
Mercer was one of them, but luckily he lived
close to Toby. So he came
over to Toby's as we were wrapping up. We got to hang
out with him, get a picture and everything. And then
as we were done with Johns and
Santan, as we were driving back north
into the city, we met up with Big Matt Baller.
He, uh,
if you ever familiar with supporting
of our sporting members.
He has three sons that all lift and power lift with him.
They compete in the USAPL.
And we got to meet up and have lunch with Big Matt at a little Mexican joint.
Yeah.
That was good.
It was good.
I had a really good.
So we got to, even though we didn't get to tour his gym and we didn't get to tour Dan's,
at least we got to meet them while we're there.
So it's still cool.
After that, we were on our fourth gym for the day, which was, I think,
think the first time we've ever toured a second story second floor home gym the iron loft with big
jeff okay so check it out the iron loft you know we've been to a lot of gyms you know mentally you
sort of know what you're going into you're either walking into a garage you're walking into a basement
and you see a cool gym but what you're not mentally ready for is to walk upstairs to a second level
of a house and to see a gym there like it kind of messes with your head a little bit from what
we've seen in our experiences.
That's exactly right.
We've walked down into a lot of gyms, never up, which is, it does mess with your head because
we've been to so many different home gyms that it just does feel quite a bit different
when you go up the stairs.
You wouldn't think it's that different.
It feels a lot different when you know you're just upstairs on the top floor.
And just a teaser, I guess you've got to have to watch the gym tour when it comes out because
the first thing people say when they see that is like what about the weight and it's not the only one i know
there's a few that exist on gym radar that we've seen before uh but we talk specifically about that in the
in the gym and jeff is a construction guy and um he has strategically placed items either on the
perimeter or above where there is a walled bare walls yeah yeah so he yeah he has he's not just
randomly placing items in his gym.
And he's got some modifications of equipment and stuff that he's done there,
which is kind of cool that we talk about in the tour.
But again, you're going to have to watch the tour to see all that too.
I did really like how he, there'd be just things like wobbles and things like that.
And he just made some small tweaks to all of a sudden like make big improvements in the
quality of equipment.
So that is a cool one that you should watch out for if you're interested in that at all.
Yeah.
And we were by this time in time, we were way up.
ahead of the schedule, which is great because we do got, it's a full schedule.
For the first time ever.
Usually, best case scenario is we're just like kind of on time.
And a lot of times we're somehow like 10 to 20, 30 minutes behind schedule.
But yeah, but we were even ahead, which is great.
So we just had the final tour of the evening, which was Big Scott, Scottsdale garage gym on
Jim Radar. Check it out as a very cool gym.
Obviously, check out the tour when it comes out
because Scott has a
three-stall garage gym
that is completely full of equipment.
But because this was our last
stop of the trip and because
Scott is in the business
of hospitality, they really rolled out
the red carpet for us when we got there.
Yes, they did.
And we met
all of his family. We all had a
big, big supper together.
together and Scott cooked up one heck of a barbecue.
You know, there's a Mount Rushmore of gym tour meals that we've had.
And you've got to say Andrew Garrison's meatloaf is up there.
You know, maybe Carps, Chili.
Coach Carps chili in notoriety.
And certainly in the Mount Rushmore conversation now towards the top of it is Big
Scott's barbecue dinner that he made for us.
What do we have?
We had chicken.
The chicken was excellent.
Yes, the chicken.
I mean, it was all excellent.
I can't even really single out one thing,
it was also good.
He made chicken,
chicken,
there was ribs,
pulled pork,
sausage,
and pulled pork
were the four meat dishes.
And none of them,
I wish,
they're all just top.
I'd like to have some of those leftovers
right now,
if I'm being honest.
I'd be all over that.
The ribs were really good too.
I am a fan of ribs also,
so those were pretty killer.
Yeah,
the whole thing.
And then we had dessert afterwards.
Yeah.
You know how rare it is for me
to get dessert
after a meal and it's not a holiday.
Yeah, and he
rolled that beautiful bean footage
on us even actually when we're there.
Roll that beautiful bean footage.
Roll that beautiful bean footage.
Yeah, he hit us with the bushes baked beans,
didn't he? Yes, he did.
Serving them up hot.
I mean, how good was that meal, though?
It was so good. It was, it was,
that was what we needed.
Yeah. And we got to power through.
we got a
Arizona
desertscape tour from his father-in-law
also
that's actually really cool
cactus
varieties
for anyone
that's been there you get it of course
but is it the Swarrow
cactus that only exist in that
exists in that desert
like this only place on the planet
and they are so cool
yeah they're huge too
any huge enormous
You kind of don't realize how big they get.
And very old.
Like, I think Big Tom said that they don't usually sprout their first arm
until they're approximately 70 years old.
Very different than our grass lawns.
Yes.
Just so much different.
Yeah, it was really cool.
This is the seal.
And, like, everything has spikes.
I never really realized that, but every plant in the desert has spikes on it.
Yeah.
Yes, we never saw any scorpions.
No.
Didn't see a lot of wildlife.
Saw a hair at one point in time.
We did see that.
That was about it though, I think.
Yeah.
Yeah, I think that that's about it.
It was particularly dry and cold, though, so they're probably hibernating.
Right.
Given the temperatures.
Scott's home gym is wild.
You know, he's one of the top five and Jim Radar for, you know,
because he has so much equipment and there's reviewed so much.
of it and it's just an
just an insane collection
you know that's a one of a kind
where you walk into and you're like
how do we do this
because there's just so much here he has
a 13 post rack
yes
yes he has a 13 post squat rack
five eights I might add
yeah yep five days
a lot of commercial machines too
yep
yeah it was very cool
Scott had very generous hospitality
for us the entire weekend
So it was very much appreciated.
Also, everyone always does, honestly.
Yeah, they do.
Yes, everyone does.
Scott also looked up with some goodies, Tanner.
Do you remember this?
Yeah.
Yeah.
This, we'll parlay this into a little sack segment.
Because I've got, I came prepared for one of the items.
He got us some reading material, which this is a Massanomics deep cut right here.
This is Paul Anderson, the world's strongest man.
He had, I think we each got a copy.
of this book, right?
Yep.
And then you got a Paul Anderson VHS tape.
Yes.
And I got this Paul Anderson trading card, and this is from famous sports records.
This is from, was produced by sweet cigarettes.
Because why not?
Yeah.
I've got this Paul Anderson trading card of him doing a press out of an Olympic lift is what
it looks like here actually, but
I have not read this yet, but I am
going to read this. Oh, I plan on it too.
When is that book published? Was it like the
70s? I thought it was
should say somewhere, right?
Should. I'm not sure. Scott knew.
Scott new, but I also got the
what's it, the Gales
November. It was 2.95 when it was new.
Dang.
Yeah. Yeah, the Gales of November. It should be in my
background here somewhere.
Somewhere in that collection.
It's back there somewhere.
Yeah, it's back there.
But yeah, you got the Gales of November as well.
Which would also be great,
really material.
Yes.
Yes.
Okay.
That's a sack segment.
I got one other piece of,
as long as we're on a sack segment here.
Got these special little ditty came in from Freedom Fitness
Equipment.
Saw some other people online sharing.
there so I thought I'd share all ours also.
We got pairs of two and a half pound and five pound.
You know, it's almost like Massonomics customized
plates.
I don't know. Ashton had a cryptic letter along with this
that said, uh, here's a teaser or something's coming.
So I don't know if it's plates that he's making or what's going on,
but they do the red Massonomics logo really does pop.
I'll give him that.
Interesting.
Yeah.
I have to keep our eyes,
on that one.
Yeah, we'll keep our eyes peeled for what Ashton's got cooking over there in Charlotte.
I believe so.
Yes.
I mean, we've been there.
It's just,
we've been a lot of places at this point,
including Phoenix.
So that finished up,
Scott's finished up.
We were there for a long time.
We were at the family.
Many hours.
And it was a blast.
And it was great that we could have stayed for many hours more.
We're lucky that we were ahead of schedule.
so we got to hang out and enjoy that time like that.
You know, at the end of a long day, it was very fun.
It was actually tough after eating and shooting the shit to be like,
okay, we got to actually record one more video here.
Yeah, turn this in the gym tour mode all of a sudden.
Yeah, because there is a mode.
You know, there is a mode when we do that.
That wrapped us up.
We got back pretty late again, you know,
or maybe back by 1030 or 11.
Yeah.
And we had one tour left.
So we get up Sunday morning to head the other,
side of Phoenix. It was kind of a long drive Sunday morning. We get to
nice like Mike's one stall
golf cart garage is what you call it. What's what the locals
call it. And Mike's gym is very cool. You've probably seen it online
if you follow him on Instagram or anything like that. It is a one stall
garage and it's he's got a lot.
It's like, we might even said it in the intro. It's maybe like the
coolest small gym we've ever done like that before.
Yep.
Well,
we also don't do a ton of gyms that are of that size either.
You know,
I think he sits under 200 square feet.
Right.
A lot of times,
by the time we're showing up to your house,
it's because your gym has expanded far beyond that.
Right.
But he has this thing about as low as you can get for 200 square feet,
and there's just a lot of really good stuff in it.
Yeah.
He's got the Voltra.
So we talked about that.
Was it the only Voltra on the trip?
Actually, you know what?
I think you're right.
One out of 10.
Yep, he had the Voltra.
And the funny part is, is right now the Voltra, about 10% of Jim Radar users have a Voltra.
Right.
And on this trip, he was one out of 10%.
10%.
Yeah.
You might think that who we're touring might skew even more to having more of them.
And it has on certain trips.
Yeah.
On overall average, I'm sure it's over 10.
You know, we're probably at more like 30% on, well, I don't know.
maybe 20 maybe
someday when I've caught up on everything else
I'll run that number
Yeah
Yeah
That day will be any day now
Yeah
And then since that was our only tour that day
We got to hang out there a little bit longer
Until it was time to get back to the airport
Not super long
But we just got to
You know, shoot the shit
Talk about Home JimCon
Home Jim Con
We listen to their podcast
We listen to their old news every week
So it's fun
always fun to hang out with people that create content that we also consume.
So that's always a fun thing.
Mike had a, just of note, he had a signed basketball from the 1970 Los Angeles Lakers.
That was really sweet.
I like that.
You're not saying anything about the Clippers basketball?
Well, whatever.
Yeah, we got to see his little podcast studio set up.
Yep.
Yep.
Not everyone has one of those.
That's true.
And saw a lot of what he's like tinkering with as far as he makes some various products that he collaborates on with other companies for gym equipment products.
So got some behind the scenes looks at what he's tinkering with.
Then we hopped in the car, drove to the airport, dropped it off, got in the airport just in time for the delays to start.
and if we're going to have delays,
I do really appreciate that it happens on the way home
and not on the way there,
because if it happens on the way there,
you can tell by the schedule that we've talked about here,
it screws the entire thing up.
It ruins a lot of things.
And we did not have to deal with that.
So for that, I am still thankful.
Although at the end of a few days like this,
you do want to get home.
Yeah.
So when it all gets delayed.
When we intentionally pick the tickets that would get us home
before 10 o'clock because you have to drive home.
You know, we went out of our way to be like, oh, yeah, we'll leave it this time.
It'll make life easier.
And then the airlines like, nah, nah, nah, nah, you don't want to leave it this time.
You want to wait a few extra hours.
We actually landed in Sioux Falls at almost the exact same time that if we would have taken
the flight that left six hours later, but, you know, if we would have taken the direct
flight that left six hours later, they got to Sioux Falls at the same time, well, unless it was
delayed, but it was scheduled to get there within 10 minutes of when we actually got there for
the flight that we came to the airport six hours earlier for, such as air travel.
I was saying, though, that I, like, we've said it before.
It happens almost every time.
I mean, is that just the odds of delays in air travel?
I guess.
I guess, yeah, the odds save.
I mean, it kind of happens every trip a little bit, right?
Basically.
But does it just happen to everyone on every trip one way or the other?
I don't know.
Last trip I went on with my family got delayed.
Actually, it got just straight up can't.
Actually, it got delayed like 17 hours because of a storm.
So.
Yeah.
Yeah, that was like worst case scenario.
But what were our delays for?
Originally it was.
Didn't even really say, did it?
I don't know if it really said.
We were waiting on a plane.
Our plane coming in was delayed.
Yeah.
It was also interesting, though, because we had a connection flight.
and I'm quite positive as I was tracking it
that every time our flight was getting,
our first flight was getting delayed,
our second flight was getting delayed
in lockstep for the same amount of time.
And I started looking at it and it was actually,
the plane we were riding in was the plane
we were going to be riding out on.
So it worked in our way that we weren't going to miss our connection
because I think we would have missed our connection
because it was just a touch over an hour.
We would have eventually,
yeah, I got delayed enough times
we would have actually eventually,
but we weren't because because they were waiting on the plane that we were flying in on,
they kept delaying our,
they ended up switching that to by the end of it.
But yeah.
But that's travel.
And we got back to Sioux Falls at 1130.
I got to back.
So then for anyone that hasn't been playing along and doesn't know how this work,
I then get in my vehicle and drive home three hours in the middle of the pouring rain.
Yeah, at least it was pouring rain.
The dry roads would just be way too boring and easy.
But it was only for the first hour and a half of the trip.
Yeah, only for the first 100 miles.
Yeah.
And then it was no longer raining much.
But I did get home at about 2.30 a.m.
Crawled in bed before 3 a.m.
I was so tired.
So I don't know how you did that at all.
I was just like shutting down.
By the end of these, I'm just dead.
I'm so dead at the end of these trips.
Yeah.
I also sometimes I also don't.
don't know how I did it.
Yeah.
I got one of those auto, I've paid the $100 auto driving.
Self driving.
The self-driving in my Silverado.
Self-driving Silverado.
Hit cruise and close your eyes and it takes you the destination.
And I wake up and I'm in my driveway.
It's funny that I thought, you know, I'm going in this, even through the weekend, I'm like,
well, it doesn't matter how tired I am.
I'm just going to kind of sleep in and kind of take it.
kind of easy on Monday.
And then by the time I got home on Sunday night,
and I just kind of looked at what was in store for me the next day.
I'm like, oh, no, I just like actually have to work a full day to even like not be
super behind.
Yeah, to just be mostly behind.
So, yeah, that it ended up being a full day for me on Monday.
Yeah, I was also back to work too, which was fine.
But I did, I did struggle in the gym on Monday because I was back to the gym too.
Wasn't going to be an option for me.
Not very tired.
Yeah.
very, very tired.
Tuesday, I did get a decent night
sleep the next night,
so then Tuesday I felt decent in the gym again,
but Monday was a struggle.
I was even pretty tired on Tuesday, too.
Yeah, it wasn't that I wasn't tired.
I just wasn't as deathly tired as I was from Monday,
because on Monday I was very tired.
That's my secret.
I'm always tired of some varying degree.
That's my secret.
I'm always run down.
That's my secret.
I never recover.
Oh, you're trying to improve your, maximize your recovery.
That's my secret.
I never recover.
I don't have to improve it if you never recover in the first place.
Don't got to start improving if you never,
don't got to improve improvement if you never start.
Okay.
So that was our trip, right?
Yeah.
10 videos.
They'll be releasing slowly over the next probably 15 to 16 weeks.
Yeah.
When things happen.
I think the updated Massonomics gym tour is probably what's on our schedule that would be coming out this week.
Yep.
I think we've got one more video in there.
But who knows, I guess, what we release next.
But yeah, along with this and other videos we have planned,
there will probably be Phoenix Q4 is what we say in the business right there'll be Phoenix
gym tour videos coming out in December right could possibly even be Phoenix gym tours coming
out in early 2027 just depending on what happens which is great we love to be in a position
of having recorded a lot because we also have a whole bunch of other shit going on so that's
why if you're wondering why we do these trips the way we do why are you like geez
why do you go from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
and why do you, you know, what, like that doesn't sound fun.
Well, first of all, it is fun, actually.
It actually is at the end of the day.
Like, we would not do it if it wasn't fun.
And it's kind of a challenge, I suppose, for us,
where it's like, no, how much can we?
And even we're getting ahead of schedule and we start having the conversation of like,
well, there are those two other gyms we wanted to tour.
Now that we're an hour ahead of schedule.
if we added one, it would really only put us two hours,
or like one hour total later than what we were planning.
So we'd be done by midnight if we added one more.
What are we doing here?
Like our reward for ourselves by getting ahead an hour
and say being done at 930 instead of 1030 is then how can we actually do one more
and just get done one hour later than plan?
What can we do to extend this to a closer to a 20-hour day?
Yeah.
But that is kind of the way
what we,
we like to fit in as much as possible.
Oh yeah,
we actually actually have to talk ourselves out of it.
So we get going and we're like,
oh, yeah.
Yeah, we could do this.
And then it's not even like two minutes later.
We're like, wait a minute.
We're just talking about how this day's crazy.
And now we're saying let's add a few hours to it.
So yeah, we got to get a reality check once in a while.
I don't want to pat ourselves on the back too much,
but I would say the coordinating of these trips
when you coordinate with 10 other people
is quite the juggling act.
Because you also have to coordinate them somewhat by location.
You know, we can't just be zigzagging across the city
or we're going to add hours to the car time.
So it's just, and then like people have different schedules
and there's just, there is a lot of moving pieces to it.
This one we were also factoring in who doesn't have AC
so we can be there at what times of the day and stuff.
And then it worked out beautifully.
Like there's that times in the process.
where you have to completely go back to the drawing board.
But the execution was great.
Like, we got these 10 tour videos, all of them good.
A whole bunch of supporting members,
a whole bunch of certified training facilities.
So it's cool stuff.
Yeah.
And it was just a fun trip at the end of the day.
Like, it's always,
it's always cool just when you get to see everyone's gyms,
how they set things up and get some ideas.
It also feels like we're doing a,
a good thing or the right thing
when so many people
come visit us and like come to the lift
hardly VZ and then support us
by buying our stuff
like several of these people
John or Brandon
you know they had ordered stuff from us over
10 years ago because we checked this stuff
before we go and like John's
been ordering things for us
for over 10 years
you know and we've never met them before so it's cool
to be able to then go
go and be like hey we're coming to your place
You know, like we're giving something back in the equation here.
Return a favor a little bit here.
Yeah.
And not that I'm saying it's necessarily expected of everyone in that situation,
but it's cool to be able to do that.
Yeah.
What about this little, do we have time for this little?
I have no idea.
We had a technical snafu, so I have actually no idea.
I think we're at like an hour and 15, hour 20, somewhere in that range.
Okay.
Okay.
I just want to follow up of I've had this lat pull down in Massonomics Gym.
Talk about like solving a mystery.
It was in the original Massonomics gym.
So it's been, we had that from when the doors opened.
Yep.
In 2014.
Oh, yeah, 11 years ago or when it, you know, we've had it for 11, 12 years.
And it had come from someone in.
Is it rapid city?
Spearfish or Sturgis?
Oh, okay.
It wasn't Rapid City.
It was West River somewhere.
out there, though. It was West River. I can't.
It was, I think it was in Sturgis.
Okay. And I think
we picked it up. It was when I was
with, it was like someone's
Bachelor party.
Oh, I was not a party. Was it my
bachelor party? I don't think so. I was,
because I rode with you guys the whole way.
What year would have that been?
I don't know. I don't know. I guess I don't remember
either. I thought you had, just you always had that thing.
And I never, I never remember how you got it or anything.
I mean, yeah, I know, I knew you got it.
out West River because they thought it was from like Black Hill State wasn't that though.
Because I'm pretty sure Darren was driving his pickup and we loaded it in his pickup.
Really?
Remembering right.
Yeah.
Maybe I was just that hungover that I don't remember.
Well, you might not have been, it might have been a, I don't know, it was some trip that
was in it because Deadwood where we often go for these celebrations, it's sturgis is.
Because it was me you, it was me you, Shons and Darren rode out there together and then we all rode back.
I remember at the end, Sean's, our day.
Darren said he's a biohacker at the end.
Yeah.
I too am a bit of a biohacker.
Sleep,
asleep for four hours while Sean's was talking about,
while Sean's is lecturing us for on biohacking for a five-hour drive.
And Darren wakes up 10 minutes before the final destination to speak his first words of the trip and goes,
I too am a bit of a biohacker.
It's still hilarious to this day.
Like, is this like the way he said up to?
seen him move other than he got into this vehicle.
It's been a six-hour car ride.
He's not moved or a set of a thing until we get there.
He goes, I'm a bit of a biohacker at the very, very end.
I, too, am a bit of a biohacker.
Also, there are some connotations there that, like, you can read that even to be even
more funny, like, depending, you know, and what someone might be biohacking with.
It was an hilarious comment.
Yeah.
It actually just gets more funny with time, actually.
But that's what I'm saying is I don't remember a lap pulldown being part of this at any point on this trip.
It might not have been that trip.
It was something like that, though.
Yeah.
Anyways, this flat pulldowns never had any markings on it.
Anyone that's been to Massonomics, Jim, you know what I'm talking about.
It's the big old black one with like an old green colored padding on it.
It's never had any stickers or labels or badges on it whatsoever.
It's belt driven.
I replace the belt one.
like nine years ago.
Other than that,
it's required no maintenance.
It's an awesome lap pull down.
Always thought it's really good.
You know,
the weight stack basically goes more than you could ever need,
and the range of motion is more than really need.
It's not fancy like some of the new ones,
but it has just been used and abused,
and it just takes it.
Yeah,
and we never knew what it was until now.
We know what it is, right?
Yeah.
Because last night,
in our perpetual marketplace group with me, you, Paul and Bryce.
Was it Paul that sent it?
And he's like, oh, Tanner, he said someone needs to get this lap pull down.
And it was just late.
I'm assuming you were sleeping.
It was just Paul or Bryce, one of them sent it just like, hey, here's a good, you know,
just like it was like 200 bucks or something.
Like it wasn't that much.
120.
Damn.
120.
Holy.
I also, do you know what I paid for mine?
I got robbed, I guess.
125.
Seriously?
I guess we know the market on them.
Yeah.
There's two data points.
But anyways, he sends this.
He's like, someone needs to get this lap pull down for 120.
I'm looking at it.
I'm like, God, this thing looks familiar.
And I look at it some more.
I'm like, this looks just like Tanner's lap pulldown.
And I kind of like, I'm like, well, it can't be the one.
It just looks a lot like it.
You said that.
You said that comment.
And I didn't check it until today when you said, like I hadn't seen that yet.
Yeah.
And I checked and I'm like, that is, that's the lap.
pull down. I'm like, that is a twin to it. It's the exact one, same pads and everything. And what is it,
Tanner? It's the bodymaster's 212 let pull down machine with 250 pound weight stack. That is, it's a body
masters. That's now we know. Makes so much sense because we've learned, especially over the last few years,
that used old body master's equipment is usually always pretty nice to and people like it and the machines are
really, really overbuilt, really heavy duty.
Yep, and it makes so much sense now.
Other pieces of bodymasters, like Evan Sentipani's obsessed with the bodymaster's bench.
He has like two of them or three of them, something ridiculous like that.
I can't remember who had it but that review of that 45 degree hyper extension that I read on here that was like, this piece will outlast me forever.
That was a bodymaster's.
Yeah, that's right.
There was some funny things in that review too, wasn't there?
Yes, like the guy that owned it.
Nobody really owns the bodymaster's 45 degree backrays.
It's just your turn with it.
Yeah, like the guy that owned it died.
And his wife sold it and he's like, yeah, I'm just the next guy in line now.
And it just went on like that forever.
I can not remember.
I love a good story when somebody dies and equipment changes hands.
Really validates this thing I've been preaching for years about.
It's just your turn.
Not enough companies run their marketing campaigns around people dying and giving their equipment away.
Lost opportunity.
But yeah, it's kind of crazy that after all these years, over 10 years, you finally now know that you have the body masters.
What was it?
212?
Yeah, the 212 lap pulldown.
I just kind of had started to think it was just like a homemade, like a really nice, like homemade lap pulldown machine.
Yeah, I did too, but now we know.
And also, you know, I did that.
It is now on Jim Radar too.
I'm the one gym that owes the 212
Let pull down on Jim Raider
But it's still
It makes you actually even wonder more
That lap pull down has pads
It has the seat pad
And has the knee stay roller pads
Both of those make perfect sense
And then it has pads
Close to the weight stack
You have to look it up on Jim Raider
You'll see the picture of
You know somebody else's on there
But it doesn't make
sense because the pad, yeah, the pads like on the weight stack and there's just like no way.
Like they're positioned like low row pads.
But in order to low row it, you would be straddling the seat like in a way that just makes no sense at all.
So there's no cable attachment to do a low row.
Yeah.
I just, I don't get what what those pads are for.
Never knew.
Still don't know.
But the fact that this is a bodymaster's legit piece,
makes me wonder even harder because I always assumed somebody made it and like there was a bit of
a flaw in the design and they got done they're like yeah frigate who cares and stuff so sweet that
pull down there has to be some use for it I just I what would it be what would that be I kind
to use I kind of use them I do a stay I do standing I don't know why I like this machine to do this
I do standing crunches with like the sputank long abstrap yeah and I face away from
the machine.
Yeah.
And I put my calves against those pads.
So you're kind of between the roller pads and those pads.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Do you think that's what they,
they went to made it with that in mind though, right?
I've always assumed there's no way in hell they made that with that in mind because
it's a very,
like,
it can't be that.
But that is one thing that I've noticed where my body has come in contact with them.
Hmm.
That's a,
I think that's a mystery.
the greater missed 212 lap pull-down machine mystery of solved but it almost opened a whole
another set of mysteries right because now we have something to look into as to yeah god i do want to know
maybe we should ask evans maybe i should send it to evans centipani yeah him or you know who else might know
i could see i could see mark maybe having some insight on that uh deadliest lift mark no mark in florida
oh yeah he might know him jimcon mark yep he might know him jimcon mark yep he might
If you're listening, Mark, actually Mark listens.
Yeah.
Mark, that's a good, that's a good call up.
Mark, look it up.
The 212 lad down bodymasters.
What are those?
Tell us in the YouTube comments so everyone can see, let us know your follow-up.
Either tell us you don't know and you can't figure it out also or let us know what it is
or give us your best hypothesis.
Also, everyone else listening along, go look at the Bodymaster's 212 lap pulled on.
You can just Google it.
There's several pictures of it.
Let us know what you think those pads are.
that are down low by the weight stack.
Yeah.
What are those for?
What the heck is that?
And then Mark specifically, you give us your answer.
Everyone else you tell us,
and then Mark, you tell us the right answer.
Yeah.
B.J. Davies might know.
He could actually know.
Yeah.
He has some legit commercial knowledge there.
Okay.
So that's a good follow up on that.
What a full circle moment.
Finally, after close to 12 years,
I can finally relax now that I know what's going on there.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay, what other things do we want to tip on this week?
Oh, boy.
Or do we want to wrap it up?
Maybe we got a few other things here,
but maybe we can just save these for next week.
Yep, we'll save them.
Do we want to do any,
we don't have to do a certified training facility the week.
We kind of just did 10 of them in a way.
But I wondered if we should either do a radar report
or a certified training facility of the week.
One of the other, I do have a radar report.
Actually, I've got something if you don't have any other.
Well, I want to know your radar report then.
Yeah.
Okay.
I mean with it.
Ladies and gentlemen, can I please have your attention?
Radar.
Okay.
Tommy, how long has Jim Radar been active now?
Well, how long is it officially launched to the public the end of February.
I don't know if it was like February 26th or something like that.
So we'll say, say, you know, exact months.
So we'll go March, April, May, June.
July, August, September.
Seven months.
Doesn't it kind of feel like...
That's crazy.
Doesn't it kind of feel like Jim Radar just existed forever
because it would be insane to not have a tool like that now?
That's...
Could not say it better myself.
So it's been around for almost seven months.
And we just crossed a big threshold on Jim Radar.
There are now over 20,000 individual equipment reviews
that have left on the site.
The number, as I'm looking at right now, is 20,114.
Wow.
reviews.
That is a lot.
That is a lot.
We also, like as we speak for the first time in a long time,
there are no requests in the queue.
We actually have the request queue down to zero.
So anything anyone's ever requested,
we either said no because it's not going out the site on this time
or we have added it to the site.
So there's now 8,750 gym equipment pieces in the database.
That number will be at 9,000 pretty soon.
Yes, that'll be at 9,000 and we're just cross it.
Yeah, I mean, the 20,000 reviews, though.
I can say that is the one that just my brain never would have came up with that number.
No, it's also because of where we framed it from the start.
We weren't like, oh, this is a review site.
Yeah.
That was never, that was just something, kind of a happy accident along the development path where it's like, oh, this would be easy to add.
Yeah, 20,000.
And yeah, I can confidently say I just, I'd never in a million years.
I guess if you would ask me like, after five years, would it get to 20,000 reviews?
And I'd be like, yeah, probably.
But that's a big number.
That's a really big number.
It is crazy.
In seven months, there's 20,000 reviews.
I mean, I'll call it out ourselves.
Some of the reviews are more useful than others.
But what makes it useful is the huge, the quantity of reviews that's spanning the quantity of equipment.
And like here, I'll tell you exactly how I use it myself.
Because I've been looking at some stuff.
I've bought some stuff.
What I do, Jim Radar doesn't completely replace the conventional YouTube review,
even to me as a creator of Jim Radar.
What it is is a super valuable additional piece to make an informed decision.
So what I've done is if I'm looking at buying something, take an adjustable bench.
I can go to the equipment page on Jim Radar,
and then you can look at all benches,
or I want to actually look at just most owned adjustable benches.
So right here I've got the top 20 most owned adjustable benches on Jim Radar,
and it goes from the Nighthawk that's owned by 194,
all the way down to a Titan Elite series that's owned by 16 and everything in between.
That alone has like just those, that list of 20,
I'm like, yeah, what I'm getting is somewhere in here, almost guaranteed.
Like there's a 99.99% chance.
On a big piece of equipment like that, yes.
Yes.
What I'm getting is in this.
Unless you're buying something used off a marketplace, that's a different type of shopping.
You might refer.
Then you say that piece on Facebook Marketplace, you come over to Jim Radar and research that exact piece.
Body Master's 212.
Okay.
Who has this thing, you know?
Oh, Massonomics Gym.
Whoa.
This be the real deal.
The only one ever.
But then I look through the benches, you know, see who owns what.
And then as far as those reviews go, like the Blackwing, the second most owned, there's 20 reviews on that.
What I typically do, this is kind of how I check any reviews on things.
I might just scan them all, first of all.
And ones that are a little longer, I'm drawn to those a little bit anyways because I'm like, okay, this person did stuff.
Ones that have pictures, I'm a little drawn to those because I'm like, okay, this person did stuff.
what I also do.
This is what I do on Jim Radar or other sites.
On ours, you can sort by who's called them the most helpful, you know, that's upvoted
them.
So you could do that.
But what I usually do, the first thing I do is that go rating low to high.
And I want to see all the lowest ratings that people have given.
See what all those complainers have to say.
Yep.
I want to see what the lowest ratings say.
And I particularly want to see if there's lower ratings that have left detailed reviews.
So I'm looking for those first.
then I'll say, okay, I've got maybe a couple negative points.
And then I go to the highest rating.
And I search there and I find like two or three that have left some detailed reviews and I read those.
So I've collected those opinions.
I'll do that for say the two or three that I'm most interested in.
From there, I'm probably going to search up a couple of YouTube videos to see what Gluck has said it about it or
coach carp or insert any people that are reviewing gym equipment on YouTube and I'll watch that and be like,
okay, now I've got their opinion also.
And like, that's just another piece that I weigh into my decision.
I've actually done it this exact thing that I've describing.
I have done that recently.
Yeah.
And I just purchased a piece yesterday.
It was relatively inexpensive.
But in the category, there was quite a few options to pick from.
And what I did, here's another little interesting twist on it is I also went to the most popular list and I clicked on the first one.
And I had a feeling like in the little bit that I knew that this was the one I wanted to go with.
But what really did it for me is if you're tuned into Jim Radar at all or you know some people in the greater Massonomics community, you know who some people are and who some strong people are.
And as I went through the list, there was a couple of people that stuck out to me as being some pretty serious lifters that said, yeah, this thing's the real deal.
this a lot. And in my case, I'm like, yeah, that's all I need to hear. The guy that's moving some
real weight and is like, yeah. Yep. Yep. This thing is good, especially under heavy load.
I'm like, all right. They've stress test it. They like it. And there was a few of those guys that said it.
So it wasn't only just one. There was multiple guys that I had no clue they even had this piece of
equipment. I saw the reviews. And I'm like, yeah, that's all I need to hear. Here we go.
That's actually a really good point that I probably downplayed in what I just described.
Because because of Jim Radar the way it is, how everyone has a gym built out and a profile.
if they leave a negative review and I'm a little skeptical,
I can literally click and be like,
all right, what's this dude's gym like?
Yeah, what else?
What's this lifter like?
What's this lifter like?
You know, and maybe I'm like, oh, no, actually,
seems like they holistically kind of know what's going on here.
So this review does maybe mean more.
Like you can background check basically anyone in that way too.
And I'd be like, no, he's leaving like a lot of detailed reviews
on other pieces of equipment.
and I agree with a lot of these things that we mutually have.
And some other review sites, you don't really have that ability.
Yeah, just basically just Johnny in Missouri said this.
Right.
Okay.
I have no clue who that is or anything about the guy, but okay.
We have the luxury of like knowing a huge, you know, a lot of people.
Yeah, we know a lot.
But even if you don't, because Jim Raider, you can click on their profile and circle it back to see who the person is and get some more perspective on where this review is actually coming from.
Yeah.
I mean, there's.
won't let any cats out of the bag here,
but there's a piece of equipment
that you recently got that you were just like
working through in demoing now.
Would you have even found that without Jim Radar?
Nope.
And it's turning out to be
a really affordable,
really useful, like solving the exact thing up.
When the video on this ultimately comes out,
I think it's going to be a hot seller.
Like you addressed a problem.
We were talking about solutions.
And like because of Jim Radar,
you found like, oh, wait, this sort of it exists from this obscure company.
And only because of Jim Radar, we were able to, like, you just would never have come across that without it.
Yeah.
I don't think.
Like, how would you even like, I don't know.
I don't even know what you would have begun to search on Google to like, lead you to finding that product.
Yeah.
I don't even really know how I found it to be totally honest.
Even in Jim Radar, I'm not totally sure how I found it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But stay tuned, people.
Stay tuned.
Well, that's Jim Radar for you,
and that's our radar report.
Ladies and gentlemen,
can I please have your attention?
Radar love.
One last thing,
because I can't remember
what user it is on YouTube
keeps commenting this
every week diligently on every video.
Do you know what it is?
Is it going to be the Groundupy report?
I feel like I have to reward him at this point
because of his diligence.
Bring us up to speed.
We want to know it.
We have not done an agronomy report.
Because this is a test because if they just complain that there's still no report,
we know they didn't listen to the end of the episode.
Right.
Right.
And we can be like, ha, gotcha.
I don't know who that is for sure.
And it might just be the fact that it's hard to match up YouTube handles a lot of times
with back to what someone is on Discord or Instagram.
It would be like my guess as to who it is, but the YouTube handle is not a clear giveaway.
No, no.
So there's been a lot of requests for an.
updated agronomy report, which we do like to periodically do here on Massonomics,
and by periodically now I mean about once a year and probably pretty concise.
Agronomy report, as we sit here now at September 23rd, fall harvest is fast approaching.
For anyone that's not familiar with, northeastern South Dakota, we live in a primarily cash crop,
agronomy industry region.
The two primary
crops of the
Brown County, Spink County, really
most of the eastern state.
Eastern side of the state are
field corn and
soybeans. So we're coming close
on harvest. There's been
small grain harvest going on, but that's
really a much smaller piece of the puzzle.
So that would be spring wheat, winter wheat,
barley, oats.
Maybe some
that's maybe some sorghum, maybe.
Yeah.
Yeah, and that stuff, if someone's a rancher,
some of that stuff is going to be a little more prevalent.
And it's just not all that common.
Because our ground is so fertile here,
you're really financially most rewarded typically by growing the highest yielding option,
yielding, I mean by actual yield,
but also financially what you can turn around and sell it for.
And that is historically.
corn and soybeans here.
So that harvest, like fall harvest, even if you're not in, if you didn't grow up on a farm
and you lived in eastern South Dakota, you still are aware that fall harvest is like a big
deal.
Oh, yeah.
I think.
Like even if you grew up, I don't know, I suppose if you live in Sioux Falls, maybe, you're
a little more sheltered from it.
That'd be the only place though, I think.
Yeah, I think so.
Aberdeen and Watertown, you're not sheltered from it.
It's like, just like eventually run into a tractor somewhere.
I mean, you kind of even do it.
I mean, you'll literally run into a tractor if you're not paying attention.
Yeah, well, true.
But, yeah, Sue Falls, you can get a little more sheltered from it,
depending on where you're at.
Like, because that was one of the things that I thought about here.
I'm like, this is the most sheltered ever felt from the agricultural community in South Dakota.
Yeah.
Sioux Falls, that's, that's true.
Yep.
Especially if you're not in the most sprawling outer edges of two falls.
Especially if you're not on the perimeter of town.
Like, if you're in the middle of town and that's where you stay, like, you'll just,
you won't really see anything.
You would never, you would never even mess with it.
But anywhere else you do, and West River's different because it's much more of a ranching community, a lot more, a lot more cattle.
The ground isn't as good, so you can't raise quite the same kind of crop that we can here.
We're coming into fall harvest, which is a big time of the year.
And coming into it, things are looking pretty good.
What happened was, was overall moisture for the year was pretty good.
Planting season was pretty good.
in some areas it got dry late.
In most areas it got a little dry late
and that's kind of when the crop is finishing
and that can knock off a certain percentage of yield
but from when I've talked to most people
they're cautiously optimistic yield-wise
that it's mostly going to be good outside of a few areas
that it did just get way too dry
and that will be dinged and they will notice
at least fairly significant yield loss
where it just was too dry for too long
towards the end of the growing season.
Yeah.
But for the most part, it was pretty good.
It's probably not going to be a bumper record crop,
but it's going to be overall pretty good.
And prices right now are decent
compared to what they've been lately.
Okay.
A lot of times commodity prices can mere oil prices, you know.
So we know what the price of gas is like right now.
Don't get me started on the price of diesel right now.
Also relevant for the agronomy.
report. A lot of good diesel is about ready to get burned. Hopefully they got that diesel tank full
earlier. Hopefully they prepaid. Yeah. So that's kind of the ground area report. You know,
it's about ready to get into full swing. I think people will be some really early
planters and really are, some people have actually started combining, but it's not full
wide swing just yet. There's always a certain farmers that plant shorter day stuff. They
plant earlier and they're always the first to harvest.
There's strategic reasons to do that or strategic reasons not to, but it just fits in
and some people farm so much that they're the first people combining and also the last people
combining.
True.
That's, that's a good, I mean, that's like the best agronomy report we've done in three or four
years, I feel like that.
Well, it's kind of surface level.
Maybe next week we'll go a little more in depth on the, you know, on the greater
details of it all, but
well, we're going to get outside of my
skill. You know what? We'll call a guy
in for this. Yeah, we've got a guy. We actually have a guy.
We'll call, we'll call Nick. There we go.
We got a, or we can, we have multiple people that we
have for this, actually. Yeah, we've got a guy for this.
I don't know. I was just, I'm wondering if we should wrap
this one up. Uh, probably. Put a bow on it.
This has been episode 200 and
I mean 547.
Is that even right?
547. Wow.
Who knows what it'll be in store next week?
I think we'll come back for next week, though.
Are you thinking, which is right?
You know, I was on the fence going into this,
but I'm feeling pretty good after this episode.
So, yeah, we'll do one more.
We'll do one more and see how it goes.
Mark, we'll look forward to your comment in the YouTube.
Please watch our YouTube videos.
They've been going great.
You know, we've done a bunch of gym tours,
a bunch of more specific equipment stuff.
some lists and feels like they're being really well received and a lot of comments.
So we appreciate that as well as the podcast itself has been going good, getting a lot of views,
a lot of downloads and listens.
We appreciate all of that.
Please consider becoming a supporting member if you haven't.
If you made it to the end of this episode,
