Alright guys, welcome to this week's episode of sweet Massanomics gear. All right, guys.
Starting point is 00:00:28 Welcome to this week's episode of the Massanomics Podcast. I am Tyler. I am joined to my right by Tanner. Hey, everyone. And our special guest this week is now South Dakota's strongest woman and Minnesota's strongest woman, Megan Stone. Hi, guys. Two out of 50 down, 48 to go. Yeah, 48 to go.
Starting point is 00:00:50 In two separate weight classes, I might add, technically. Oh, yeah. You know? Yeah. So Megan's just coming off of yesterday, big victory in Minneapolis. Did we go through what the events were in this? No, I don't think we ever really talked about it specifically. Megan, what were the five events?
Starting point is 00:01:11 What were they? Yep, so we had a frame carry was going to be the first event. Second event was log press. Third event was a carry and drag. Fourth was a yoke walk. And the fifth was the odd object carry for distance. What were the weights on those um the frame carry we originally had i think it was supposed to be like 325 we end up bumping it up to 350 the log press was 130 the carry and drag there were two two balls that were 165. Balls. And the tire drag total was 430.
Starting point is 00:01:46 The yoke walk was 400. And the odd object, I believe, was supposed to be 180, but turned into 210. So I've got questions about, like, every event. So should we just go event by event? Let's do that. So we have some order. Otherwise, like, I don't even know. I like that.
Starting point is 00:02:02 Bounce around everywhere. Frame carry. Frame carry frame carry so I guess what what weight class were you in then there was like some changes of the weight class right yes yeah so with the weight classes I originally signed up if you were 170 and below you were going to be the lightweight and 171 and higher was going to be the heavyweight and I got fortunately since right now this is a strongman competition we can ask so how much do you weigh i was pushing 170 i was so you're right i wanted to be right under that lightweight category but two weeks prior to the events i got a text message from the guy running it named jason that i was no longer going to be a lightweight i I was now a heavyweight. He was like, bitch, you got fat.
Starting point is 00:02:47 So he was trying to even out the classes? Yeah. I suppose it's better to have five and five versus eight and two or something like that. There ended up being three that were under 140, so the cap then went down to 140, and I can't lose that kind of weight. Well, you could. You just got in a a really bad car accident and they had to take your lower half. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:10 My thighs. What was that? I saw, there was a joke. It was like a guy, you wake up in the hospital. He's like, well, I got good news and I got bad news. The good news is you've lost 60 pounds. The bad news is that 60 pounds was both of your legs. So anyway, Megan. the bad news is that 60 pounds was both of your legs so anyway megan so you you couldn't lose 30 pounds immediately so you're considered heavyweight then in this one or what was they just there's just two women's weight classes then basically
Starting point is 00:03:37 do they do they do they try to gloss it over to not hurt feelings or they just it's heavyweight and it's lightweight yep or they're like yeah or do they do it where it's like you're lightweight and then you're like light medium weight right right but like to be honest so anyone over 140 was in the heavyweight class like i mean aren't the men's that would be like the men's cutoff being like 190 yeah you know like yeah like everyone like there's a lot or even 200 well there's like so much range of dude. There's a lot of difference between 205 and 350. Yeah. There's often less women, female competitors. So I suppose.
Starting point is 00:04:12 You just want to make it even. Yeah, they have to do that. So the first event was the frame carry. And you did this event at South Dakota's Strongest Man competition. How much was the weight then that you did there? Oh, I want to say that was. It was less than 350, wasn't it? Oh, way less. Was it like 250 did there oh i want to say that was it was less than 350 wasn't it was like it might have been no no i think it was like 300 i thought it
Starting point is 00:04:29 was maybe 300 275 or 300 275 rings a bell okay so because you trained at 300 i've done yeah i've done a few at 300 i tried lifting it at 300 while we were practicing there i couldn't move it i was afraid i was totally afraid. But then 350 on the bend itself. Yeah. It's different when you're horse messing around beforehand. So you had to go down and back? Yep.
Starting point is 00:04:53 So it was 100 feet total or something? It was 160 foot course, I believe. And you had 60 seconds. That changed too, didn't it? I believe so. I want to say it was longer. Or we just read it wrong. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:04 So did you drop it at all or nope no just at the well just at the end yep i turned it around the girl that went first she carried it the entire time like just turned with it oh really yeah that was impressive it i wouldn't have been able to do that but i wouldn't choose to do that i don't think even the only way that i would consider that maybe is if you're like way near the top of what you can lift off the ground right like i would say i can't get it up so like so like when i i did some of those carries like around like 500 and like at that i would probably fucking turn and just run like like make the turn and grind out the turn. You have a strong grip too. Yeah. Yeah. If your grip's there. And a frame, see if it's farmer's carry handles, I'd be more likely to hold on to them than
Starting point is 00:05:51 a frame because with the carry, with the handles, they get the wob, like they could fall over. Take a lot of time to regroup. Right. But the frame should just be sitting there. You just turn around and go. Right. Right. But that's the only way I would, that's a weird strategy though i would yeah i would never coach somebody into that no would you
Starting point is 00:06:08 no i don't think so i'd be like run drop as far as speed goes i don't i think it's slower probably unless you just unless you can't pick it up again yeah right so there was three of you in your weight class is that what you said yep so what would you finish in that event i finished second in that event okay so were you going head to head against someone else? So how they did it is because it was outside, there was three heavyweight and three lightweight. So we just ran against the lightweight person, whoever, whatever order the first one was. And I end up going, I went last because I got my entry form in first. So same thing with the last way.
Starting point is 00:06:46 Preparation wins. Yep. Had to do it right away. I got to get that last. So then I end up. That's the way it should be. It shouldn't be who put theirs in last gets to go last. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:55 It definitely should be. It shouldn't be that way. No. Yeah. The way they did that was absolutely right. That makes a lot of sense. Short of doing it then totally random. Right.
Starting point is 00:07:03 Right. You can either do it totally random or if i'm an event coordinator though like i'd be like listen you got your shit in very last meaning you're going first you were the biggest pain in my ass yeah like you know because it's true like i had a spot you a lot of usually the guy that turns it in last is like a week before it starts too it's like i'm pretty sure we did it random at ours we drew cards yes we you we did it specifically random not like you know we we randomized it on purpose like that yeah i do think in two falls for tim's event though it was the same way i thought
Starting point is 00:07:41 i thought it was if you got it in last you got to go last though because i got it in last because i remember just getting it in first and he announced her right away and i'm like no i should have done it but it is yep same way that's a good way to do it i i i would say i like that reward the guys yeah on the ball right right it maybe would suck if you like just didn't hear about it as early as the other guy but like so, so be it. Hear about it sooner next year. Be more on the radar. Right. But so, so you went dead last. Yep. And that was really, really exciting that I went last. However, the girl that went second was named Tiffany and she, she was just cruising. She went so fast. I mean, what's her, where's she from?
Starting point is 00:08:23 Cambridge. Okay. I want to say it was also mini minnesota okay but i knew charity from the one in sioux falls so she was the other one in your class three and they're like were you close to her time do you think or do you know how i didn't even check time and i was really kind of bummed that i didn't but all i i was just really you're just going as hard as you can either way I just finished that one I was really surprised with that so did it uh the men's did you get I mean for most of the events did did the women go first and then men went yep so did you watch most of the men events and stuff like that then too um do you know what weight the men were using on the frame carry at all or actually the heavy weight I do know the heavyweight men what frame carry
Starting point is 00:09:05 suppose it was between six and seven hundred pounds 535 actually for shit and that was yeah that's heavyweight okay that one we did in sioux falls was fucking gangster then it was like 650 but the the weights i talked to jake j Diggle. Yeah. And he, you know, I talked to him about the weights. I was like, I wasn't complaining, but I was like, Oh,
Starting point is 00:09:27 things are, things are pretty heavy here. You know, like this is legit weights. And he's like, yeah, we're, we picked on par with what,
Starting point is 00:09:33 uh, us strong man was what they're, what they use for nationals. There's some standardization. Well, they had to do. Yeah. Well,
Starting point is 00:09:40 you know what they're going to do for nationals and what they've done for nationals in the past. So they don't have to standardize it, but their theory was we're just going to make it the weights at least somewhat on par of what a national event would be. Which makes sense because are these qualifier events? Yeah, so we could have done that. That was this weekend, actually. Okay.
Starting point is 00:09:59 And a couple of the guys from North Dakota that competed against us in South Dakota. I did see that. Joe Lupp and then the Mitch, the guy that runs the gym up guys from North Dakota that competed against us in South Dakota Strongman. I did see us in Detroit. Joe Lupp. And then the Mitch, the guy that runs the gym up there in North Dakota. He was the real big guy with the beard. Yeah, that's right. He competed in super heavyweight and Joe competed. And I think that middleweight guy that deadlifted like 655.
Starting point is 00:10:21 I wish I knew their names. The younger kid. Yeah, yeah. I think they all competed. but that was this weekend. And I know winning the event, we could have done that. Yeah, and that was in Detroit, right? It was, I think, yeah. I think so.
Starting point is 00:10:33 Yeah, because I thought it was sometime in July, so I was like, no, it's still too... Yeah, but so that's why it makes sense for those weights to be up there because otherwise we go... I say we went and did 400 pounds there and then you go to nationals and 700 yeah i kind of think that that's not only is that did they do the right thing with that but i think that that's actually the way it should be like the implements and the weights at least in your federation should be standardized because like if i win
Starting point is 00:11:00 out of south dakota and i go to nationals just because I won, I might have no fucking business being there. It would be a waste of everybody's time and mine. Right, but at least if the weights are – But if the weights are there and you win, I think you should still – there should still be like a minute – like you shouldn't have scratched more than one event or something. Right, or be the only competitor.
Starting point is 00:11:23 Or if you are the only competitor, then you have to have had a certain amount of reps. Minimums, yeah. Which I think would make sense. But yeah, that one in Sioux Falls was stupid fucking heavy, at least for my weak ass. So what was the next event? So the next event, what was that? The log press.
Starting point is 00:11:39 So tell us about, there were some changes to the event. Yep. So originally it was supposed to be you clean it and you press it each rep. And it has to touch the ground. So clean, press, clean, and press. Clean, press, yep. And the weight was a 130. And what happened was because there was no bumpers and there was no tire to put it on the ground,
Starting point is 00:12:00 they turned it into just a clean and press. Press away. Yeah. And I've been practicing doing the whole clean a clean and press press away yeah so and i've been practicing doing the whole clean with it and then press so i just did it that way because i felt it was easier with it and it's probably not as taxing on your it's hard to breathe after a while with your chest choking your neck with the log yeah and it was the log itself 110, so we got to play with it a little bit before. And the log down at the gym is 115, right?
Starting point is 00:12:28 Yeah. Yeah. So it was, it felt way easier even though it was only five pounds. The log, was it noticeably larger around than the one that we got? It looked like it was the same size, wasn't it? It was about the same size. Oh, okay. Maybe just a little bit.
Starting point is 00:12:38 It might have been an eight inch then. It looked like it in the videos. Yeah, okay. Yeah. Well, that's good. Because they had tens on it and it didn't fill the so it had so it was about that yeah and i want to say it was almost the exact same i think technique wise on that event that makes sense i if it was you know thinking about it i would press as many
Starting point is 00:12:56 as i could comfortably until you like can't weird yeah then set it down yeah rather than stand there with it on your chest for 15 seconds and and you got to figure too like if we're thinking something that we're going to press 15 times then you're like yeah why would you put it down right but if you're going to press it but if you can only do it three like if i'm if i'm trying to press 300 pounds like it's going to go up once and i'm fucking putting it down so that that probably makes sense yeah that that's how you did it so you got four i ended up getting four um the other competitors i won that event they couldn't get it. So you got four? I ended up getting four. The other competitors, I won that event. They couldn't get it up even once.
Starting point is 00:13:28 Oh, they didn't do it? Not even once. So what the problem, I think, was is they held it there and not set it down. So if they failed? Yeah, they went back to you. And then I suppose you just have this, like in Mortal Kombat, your power level just goes. Getting far into the red.
Starting point is 00:13:44 I mean, they were really close. And I don't think, I know Charity said she's never had touched a log before. So it was her first time. And I know Tim Feathers was training her and trying to show her over there. Yeah. But learning how to do it. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:56 Doing it right away. Yeah. So they both cleaned it, but never, they both got it. They got it up and yeah, they cleaned it up. And I don't know, I'm not quite sure if Tiffany has ever used a log before, but she was close a couple of times too. They were really. Had they gone yet when you went?
Starting point is 00:14:11 For, they, yeah, those, no. Well, since I got second place. Oh yeah. Originally how the place. Tiffany was left to go then still. Okay. So she got, since she won the last event. So you did have to put up.
Starting point is 00:14:22 You didn't know what, what. Yeah. So I had to. I was like jesus megan if they had both gone i could see you just wanting to do as many as you could anyways no no no but originally so i just thought that whoever won the last event it was going to be the same way like the person who won it goes last but no i didn't realize how they did it actually until the end of the competition that it was in order of what position, like point-wise.
Starting point is 00:14:47 Of total of the day? Yeah. So like before the fifth event, they had it figured where you were sitting for the total day. Yeah, but we didn't know. I didn't know that. I just assumed it was because it actually went kind of like that way of this person won. Okay, so Charity won this event. Because it's likely to kind of work out work out like that yeah with three it was yeah basically if you win like you might be
Starting point is 00:15:09 in first place every single time yeah yeah um i see you you when i saw the videos i see you got a pretty uh had a pretty sweet tip from brian shaw in the videos which was the must wear the sunglasses during the log press yes that was that the secret yeah yeah that was that was the whole success so you're you worked on the log a lot leading up to this so obviously that i mean it must feel like that paid off a little bit definitely that was the one event that i was really afraid of because i'd never touched log before then you worked on it so much that like you're just good at it now you know relative at least to the competitors you're a lot better on it so much that like you're just good at it now, you know, relative at least to the competitors,
Starting point is 00:15:46 you're a lot better at it. If we consider where you were at the first two or three training days with the log, where you couldn't even clean it once. The first day, like you couldn't clean it not even once until the end.
Starting point is 00:15:57 And then you absolutely couldn't press it at all. And then, but you had all the, like you didn't get stronger in that next week. It was just a matter of practice. That's why someone comes in and hadn't touched a log. Your potential is not really measured by where you're at there.
Starting point is 00:16:11 Right. Because you just with a few extra practice reps went from not even being able to clean or press 115 to now four reps or probably more. Well, originally. Of 135. Right. And then keep in mind, in lightweight, I thought the whole time I was going to be doing the 110. Which you probably could have got 10 times if you were in the gym.
Starting point is 00:16:32 Now, yeah. And then when I got that call saying, no, it's now 130, can you at least do that? And I'm like, oh. Had you not worked on it this much, though, you probably would have been in the same position as those other girls. It would have been overwhelming. But I think when you did the one in sioux falls it was the same way like the events that were new to you you just train the fuck out of so there was really like
Starting point is 00:16:53 we didn't have any doubt going into the last event in sioux falls that you were probably going to win the sandbag and keg carry because you'd run those carries forever same thing with the frame carry in sioux falls too or just like you were down in the gym for, that was the only thing you fucking did. Yeah, that's all I did. Running with the thing around. And you basically did the same thing with the log this year, or in this event, where you just trained the shit out of the log,
Starting point is 00:17:16 and now you're just good at it. And I think that sticks, even if you train it less when it's not an event that you're going to be doing it now, I think some of that's going to stick with you probably, yeah when you go back to it you're probably going to be good at them i think i think there's some there's some muscle memory that needs to be there but yeah but that but that that's going to stay a few reps and you'll be back where you were right yeah that's a nice thing it's kind of like learning you it's more like learning how to do something you're not having to get strong you just know how it's like learning to ride a bike, really.
Starting point is 00:17:46 I mean, and then in five years, if you go to ride a bike again, it might feel a little... Weird right away. And then you're like, oh, wait, I know how to do this. You know? Yeah. So do you know what the men's weight was on the log? I'm just...
Starting point is 00:17:56 All I got was heavy weights on there. Well, that's all that matters. Yeah, I mean... The log, let's see. Not to clown on the heavy weights. clown okay so it doesn't have i didn't have the log on there because i asked him i had sent jason a message before just like hey i forgot to give those dudes will get enough press yeah but there's some guys that did they watching those guys though there's some of them just kept going i think one guy even had up to repping it out yeah there was like i want to say 15 for one of the lighter guys. Really? But then... Hey, how
Starting point is 00:18:28 was the... There was a couple of the Masters guys that were there in Sioux Falls who were there too. Oh, those guys? I know one of them or was both of them there? I think there was... The one guy's last name is Cone. Yeah. And the other was a Hanson. Were they both there? Yeah, they both... Did you talk to those guys at all? Well, we kind of not really talked to everybody. I just got to like smile like, hey guys, I remember you. Do you guys remember me? Yeah, Adam Cohen and I think Johnny Hansen was the other guy.
Starting point is 00:18:53 Those guys are good guys. Yeah, because we had no fucking idea on some of those events. Yeah. They like, they compete a lot. So they were very valuable to have in our corner because I didn't know what the fuck we were doing. It was very exciting watching them. Like was they get after it yeah that's fucking really and usually it's funny with those two they're like usually competing just against each other usually it looks like there was a pretty good solid masters group four there um yeah four
Starting point is 00:19:19 masters in this event which is good so So next event was the carry and drag. What was that? What exactly was the carry? That was the most interesting looking one to me. Oh, man. This one hurt me. So what were you carrying? So what it had to do is they had the, I don't know, bucket at the end.
Starting point is 00:19:38 Halfway through was a stone that weighed 165, I think. Like an Atlas stone? Yeah. But it was on something, right? But it was with like a t handle okay stuck in the inside and you had to waddle it with a chain or was it fixed nope it was fixed so there was no swinging okay so you had a duck walk yeah yeah yeah yeah however i had never touched one of those and the first time i went to go pick that up i was like nope i can't pick
Starting point is 00:20:01 that up at all but then we get out there i had to get that stone all the way back which i don't want to say like 50 meters or something that was the first one is lighter or actually our both ours were the same okay one one felt like it was heavier but it was actually the same okay so i picked it up and i started running with it and i fell i fell straight forward because i did not realize that that, I didn't know what happened. But I picked up and the other girl had already, because I'm competing against the lightweight, we're running together. The heavyweights all stayed on one side. So we all stayed in the same.
Starting point is 00:20:35 So did any of the heavyweights ever race against each other? No. It was always you were all. Oh, because of the set of the implements. Yeah. And then it was also because, you know, you don't want one heavyweight on this side and another one taking advantage of like the downhill slope on this side where this one's flat yeah so we had it had to be about the same so there was no makes which was great i mean going against the lightweight lady that was tough it's actually yeah probably pushes your pace quite
Starting point is 00:20:58 a bit because at the very least those are going to be faster athletes right yeah they were really fast so she put hers in and i'm like i just got up i heard the entire crowd go oh and i was like oh no like do i keep going so i hurried up i hopped back i grabbed it and then i just kind of lifted up a little more and waddled i do have bruises on the inside of my legs that are just like, they didn't tell us that. From that beating against you back and forth. Yeah. Yeah. So then I go to throw it into the basket or like the little pot at the end. On the sled. On the sled.
Starting point is 00:21:31 Yep. There was two like hubcap looking holding. Yeah. And it fell out and I'm like, Oh no. Like, and then I put it in there, but I actually,
Starting point is 00:21:39 she was already halfway dragging back before I caught up with that other, the lightweight. So, so did you drag halfway back? Yep. You dragged it halfway back and then you had to run to the opposite end to get the other stone and bring it back. Well, that other stone felt like it was really heavy, but it was the same weight.
Starting point is 00:21:57 So we had to put it in there. And then from there, the weight, the total weight was 430 and you had to drag that. I think it maybe moved an inch. Not even moved. I don't think mine moved at all. So you didn't move it much after that? No, I just couldn't. Even just little itty-bitty, nope, it just wouldn't go.
Starting point is 00:22:18 At the South Dakota State Fair, Strongman, we've done that reverse drag with a tire before, and everyone, when they finish that or didn't finish it you know wherever they they're like falling over dying because of like what that does to you worst thing in the fucking world yeah yeah so that i noticed did it were people setting the first stone was everyone setting it in the front or the back or some of both some of both so originally when i heard jason explain it to him, he said, well, if you put the stone in the back and you pull really hard to go on that first one, it falls out. You have to go put it back in in order for it to.
Starting point is 00:22:53 So me, I'm like, well, I'm going to put that stone up front real quick. So it's going to be easier. Drag it. Yeah. So it wasn't bad on the drag, but. But then when you put the second stone in you had to uh go around right well and then the other they gave you so much space between these dots well i stopped my sled right like the back end touched the back dot where everyone else had the front end touched the front part of the
Starting point is 00:23:17 dot which i should have taken advantage of and i didn't see that right away and i didn't know so i had to try to drag it but I think I made it maybe like two inches but and then was time up or were you just dead and I just move anymore I kept trying and then at time end up going on me but so did any of the girls in your class what place did you get in that I don't actually know on the place on that one okay I want to say it was either second or last but I'll say second because I think how points wise do you remember if either of the girls drug at all once they had the second stone on there i want to say charity moved it she moved it at least five or six inches okay from what i saw i mean so no one was moving it very far no no none of the i don't think any
Starting point is 00:24:00 of the girls finished maybe one of the lightweights but i didn't really watch for them i was really watching hoping that one of the girls would do it a couple of the guys finished it too um i think i want to say now the guys had different weights with their balls too of course um so the first stone for the heavyweight guy was 165 and the second stone was 240 so depending on where you put those stones on the circle, obviously. A lot of them put the heavier one on the front, but I didn't know why. But because if they yanked it off, then it would fall off the back. And it's easier to drag, I almost say, that heavier one forward.
Starting point is 00:24:37 So now the next event was the yoke walk, which is something you didn't have a whole lot of ability to train. And you did buy, we got the, what are they called? Sputting swing set straps is what they're called, which for really what they are, they're absolutely worth it. You know what I mean? And I think as a training tool, it's really good. But I think Tim Feathers said the same thing.
Starting point is 00:24:59 He's like, those are good. It's a good training tool. It's good for stability. It's good for everything. But you cannot train speed with a yoke. Like if you're trying to do yoke to be fast you can't do it with those you can't do with those things because it will fucking rattle you apart yeah it would be could you imagine going fast with those no no you could train heavy with those but you know but also your height is very is a significant factor because like if it gets so heavy yeah well
Starting point is 00:25:24 no like how you get it up so if you're convenient enough like me where at the very top you can get it up and you're only standing it up a couple inches that's ideal but it seems like as it gets heavier the strap stretch enough and you drag a little bit so if i have to go down a strap which is like a foot then it's like squatting then i'm squatting and you know when you're actually doing a yoke carry like you should probably be able to carry a yoke that's way heavier than what you can squat which means you ain't starting at the bottom and pushing that fucking thing up right um so you had trained though quite a bit with the yoke
Starting point is 00:25:59 what was the difference between other than the fact that the yoke was also heavier yeah so the yoke ended up being 400 pounds. And I want to say originally it was supposed to be like 375 or 350. I don't know, somewhere in there. And with the straps or even having you help me put just 400 pounds on my back to see what it feels like was so different. It was not my favorite event. We did that. We did do that we took um we just had
Starting point is 00:26:27 her we just racked loaded 405 on a bar or we did we do an axle i was i think it was the axle it was the axle would have made a little more sense just so it's not digging but we uh had her with the 405 on the axle it was actually 455 on the axle and um had her just simply unrack it. Just so that like, don't try to move with it and set any bad movement patterns and stuff like that. How did that feel when you did that in training? Oh, it was awful. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:54 That's a lot of weight. I mean, I think I barely got up and I like sat down and I looked at Tyler like, Oh no. It is like almost triple body weight. Yeah. Yeah. That's, that's a lot of weight of weight you know but i didn't think when i saw the video that i saw you said you thought you know that it was really terrible but i thought you when i saw you're doing pretty good no no so what ended up happening is that i went
Starting point is 00:27:17 last i think on no well this girl named tiffany so tiffany went first she went down and back you had a minute to do it i believe and they end up changing the distance instead of it being i think it was on their 80 or 80 feet 80 feet they changed it to 100 feet down 100 feet back so it's a long ways this tiffany she just it was amazing watching her because she went all the way down and back with time to spare and it just blew my mind. I'm like, oh, okay, maybe I can do this. So then Charity ended up going. She went down and then I believe she came back about 20 feet.
Starting point is 00:27:54 Did she run out and then she eventually ran out of time? And then, yeah, she eventually ran out of time. Were they picking it up and dropping and picking it up and dropping? Or were they pretty much going the whole? Tiffany did not. No, she just like, she dropped it at the 100 feet feet turned around and it it looked like maybe just like a feather just on her and she moved so fast and I wish I would have been able to get that on video because it was it was beautiful I just was like oh I could do this and then I got under just lifted a little
Starting point is 00:28:18 bit when I tried it and I'm like oh just kidding that's not gonna happen so I end up getting it down about maybe 10 feet short of the hundred, you know, right at 90 feet. And I stopped and I'm like, I should just give up right now because I'm already last. I'm not going to, and I did, I got it to the a hundred feet. I turned it around and I tried to lift it up again and I just couldn't do it. Like that was, yeah, it really kind of bummed me out that I did. So, so did your legs or back or what at that point felt like, did you just feel fried or? Yeah, it was, well, I kind of, when me out that I did so. So did your legs or back or what at that point felt like, did you just feel fried or? Yeah, it was, well, I kind of, when I did that, um, the, what is it?
Starting point is 00:28:52 Carry with the ball. Well, I kind of ran over my ankle when I fell over it the first time. So I was really afraid that I kind of hurt myself. So on the yoke, I was taking it, I guess, easier, but I was like, ah, I just don't want to, I'm already last. I'm going to take it. it so i'll just eat this one and see what happens and i'm glad i didn't push myself to pick that up and try to go farther because it just wasn't it wasn't going yeah that wasn't yeah that was not a good one oh i was i so i will get better at that that'll be my next you know but like we said with the events i mean having not actually trained it. I thought it. When I saw it, I was like, oh. It was fine to me. And considering that, you know, if you had another 200 reps under your belt by that time,
Starting point is 00:29:32 like, how much better would you have been at it? Well, and I had talked to Charity, and I had told her, I was like, I've never done this before. And she's like, wait a second. Tim, she's never done this before. And he did. There was a couple. Then another guy came over, and they're like, okay, this is what what you should do this is how you need to stand so we practiced a little
Starting point is 00:29:48 bit like just standing there with one and I'm glad I think I tried to listen to it and it was running through my head as I was under there and then I kind of was like I don't know what happened let's just go for it and kind of see what happens I mean it's not that it could get worse I guess yeah so I took last in that one okay and then the last so you had the last event and did you know where you were sitting no okay well we didn't i asked around too i was like well how is are we doing it by points because it how it worked i mean eventually at the end it was based off of points so whoever went first was in last place and the second and then whoever's last was first so what order were you at it for this so that one i went last because so you were in first yeah from what i thought yes
Starting point is 00:30:34 and maybe it was because i don't know how they did that like i said i it was kind of mixed up anyways there was a point during um the next one where i was getting called tiffany and then the tiffany was getting called megan so it kind of confused me i'm like oh my gosh i don't know what i'm doing but so the last event was the odd object carry and that was my favorite one i think that was my besides the log press the odd object was definitely so explain your odd object what was it the same for all men and women or did people have different different objects yep everyone had different objects i mean super weird too it was like some were cylinders some were yeah because i saw some people like the women some of the girls had weird ways of carrying it because i felt yours was if anyone's ever seen the passion of the christ when they make jesus carry
Starting point is 00:31:22 his cross like up yeah except jesus at least got to put it on his back. But that's what it kind of looks like. Yeah, because ours was the T-shaped. It was a blue T-shaped. Basically steel tubes full of concrete or sand. Yeah. Shaped like a cross. Probably, what do you suppose, like three foot tall, two foot wide on the side?
Starting point is 00:31:44 Well, it went from my pelvis to right under my chin. So it fit perfectly on like the, it was almost like the log itself was sitting there and I can kind of rest on it. Uh-huh. But. Like take a nap. Yeah, you were mostly resting. Yeah, I mean, it was awful. Did all of you girls carry it the same way basically or did anyone?
Starting point is 00:32:02 Yes, we all carried it. The problem I had right away was I was a little intimidated because i was going second on that event so charity went first i went second tiffany went third and so charity gets it and we have to lift it off of the there was like a they had like a rack that you had to lift it off of we didn't have to lift it off the ground was it sitting upright like the way you would want to pick it up so it was actually is that is that common do you know is that common with an implement like that way you would want to pick it up so it was actually is that is that common do you know is that common with an implement like that that they would have it setting in a rack for you yeah yeah i've done the hussifal stone carry before and with that
Starting point is 00:32:34 they had it pitched up on cinder blocks and angled just like the way you would and it was like a slight a slight squat you know like a half of a squat to pick it up but it's not like it was like laying on the ground and you have to what about all the shit that's in your way then do they take that out of your way when you start going or did you have to go around we had to go around it i'm pretty sure so that's what you had so that's what i had to do i was like well can i turn all the way to the side grab it and then turn and walk with it that's how it was they they had it where we grabbed it sideways and made a 90 degree turn so you picked it, but just picked it from where it was, and then you just made a turn.
Starting point is 00:33:08 A 90-degree turn, yeah. Gotcha. That's how they – Probably a meet in the middle. And I've seen a World's Strongest Man before where they move something out of the way, too. I've seen that both ways, I think. But, yeah, I think that's common that it's elevated so that you're not –
Starting point is 00:33:22 like people would fumble it around picking it up and then like if they drop it do you count that as they're done with ours we had they gave us a five foot i don't actually think anybody dropped it right away i don't think anyone had that had to use that so um charity ended up going and i don't know how far she got i know she went down and back and turned around and i don't know if she's how far, but I know she dropped it. I'm like, okay, I can do this. I can. But then I went up there and I'm holding it and they, they're like, okay, we're going to let go of it. It's going to lean on you. And it leaned on me. And this weight we thought was supposed to be about 180 originally. It changed to 210. And I'm like, I don't know. I've never carried
Starting point is 00:34:03 210 like that. Uh, even with the sandbag i um i could i barely i couldn't even pick up 180 off the ground i can carry it for a little bit but not as far so this event was the last event and i was in my head i had an idea like what point base was i might be tied for first i have to win this event in order to i just have to do it and i was afraid that i was oh, it was heavy. So I go up there, they lean it against my chest and I'm like, oh no. And it was really weird.
Starting point is 00:34:31 And I'm like, oh man, this is going to be interesting. So, and then they said, go. And I'm like, well, you gotta give it all you got. It was like, it's not a weak man competition. But that event though, takes a lot. That's like a lot lot a lot of mental strength because there's no time of that whatsoever correct correct is once you drop it yeah and those events and no one's moving super fast that's like just you out there trudging along too is i do you
Starting point is 00:34:58 think that in hindsight if you would have tried because when i watched the video you seemed like you were moving very deliberately slow. And do you think that if you maybe not ran, but just went faster? Well, here's the problem. Because it's time too. It's the time that takes it out of you too. Yeah. The time holding there.
Starting point is 00:35:16 The problem I had was the bottom of the T came to a point and it had like a nut and bolt on the bottom. And that was hitting every step that i took when i ran it was jamming like both of just my inner thighs like just hitting everything always nuts right in there right in there what about your arms where like was it like so i was able i was perfectly able to grab right by my elbows okay so what was it like rubbing on your arms at all or not bad i'd chalked up so much everywhere i mean but by the end i was digging nails into skin ripping through because i was like i'm not gonna let this go yeah so we get to and i i was like trying to go fast and then i get to it was 100
Starting point is 00:35:59 meters there and i turn around i'm like oh no i'm, I'm not going to make it to 200. Made it to 200 and I turned around and the guy who was putting it on, Jason, he had the tires. He's like, okay, if you're going to drop it, yell at me and I'll drop the tires. The guy was following you with the tires. Yeah. And I kept going. He's like, you're not stopping. You're going to keep going.
Starting point is 00:36:18 You're not done. Keep going. And he was the best motivator. It was perfect. And I loved every second of it. I get to about 250 and he's like, you need to get to that 300 line right there. You need to go. And I look over, I'm like, are you kidding me?
Starting point is 00:36:30 I don't know if I can. I get to a point where I felt like my feet were stuck in concrete. So I'm like, so I tried to like sit back a little to re-wedge it and get it up there and hold on tighter. But I knew my grip was going and it was just a steady, slow, like scraping my foot towards the end. And my legs were shaking. And I don't think I've ever had my legs shake like that before. And so I get there and I see the line.
Starting point is 00:36:54 And then I started hearing everybody like just going crazy because I was the only one still going. The other girl had dropped hers a couple feet back. Uh-huh. They wanted you to get the 300. Yeah. Everyone can see those lines. You said it's 300 feet, right?
Starting point is 00:37:09 Was it feet? Okay. So it was 100 foot down and back, and you're going back one more time. So I'm getting there, and I'm in second place right now. And I was breathing. I know people could hear me breathe. It was hard. My neck hurts so bad today because
Starting point is 00:37:26 everything was just just intense with it was it hard to breathe like was it leaning on your yes yeah because it was right down the middle of everything and so every time I would breathe in it was a lot easier to breathe in really fast and like but I my teeth were just grinding in and I'm looking up and I had my sunglasses on, thankfully, because it was bright out by then. And I looked down. Thanks to Brian Shaw for the tip. Friend of the podcast. And I get to almost the 300. He's like, you're almost there. Just finish it, finish it. And I look over and here's all these cameras looking at my face and all my neck getting big I'm like now I gotta finish this everyone's gonna know that I
Starting point is 00:38:08 didn't finish it so I get to the three to get to the line I stepped on it and then I start to turn and I'm like nope it's not I can't yeah and then I dropped it and my legs kind of gave out so I just like I need to sit down for a second yeah and I was super super excited that I finished it because hey I did 300 and that's the most that they've seen so it's you know good that's good enough for me so did you know that you had won at that point no because Tiffany still had to go so how far did she make it so she was there like a moment as she was going did it seem like she was going to beat you or what were you thinking hands down I thought she was I she made the first 100 meters just looked like nothing or 100 foot looked like nothing. She turned around and then she readjusted, waited a second, and then she just kept going.
Starting point is 00:38:53 She got to about, I want to say 250. Oh, she made it that far then. Well, maybe even a little bit shorter, but she was right in front of me. I'm like, don't drop it. You keep going. You push yourself all the way to that end. But in your head, you're like. In my head, I was like.
Starting point is 00:39:04 I can drop it. Please drop it. Or maybe drop it. But really do your best. I don't want anything bad You keep going. You push yourself all the way that in. But in your head, you're like, in my head, I was like, drop it. Please drop it. Or maybe drop it. But like really do your best. I don't want anything bad to happen. I did. I also want to beat you. But like have your best be not as good as what I did.
Starting point is 00:39:14 Is what I mean. But no, she did. She was going so well. I mean, it was, it was beautiful just going. And I'm like,
Starting point is 00:39:20 oh no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
Starting point is 00:39:22 no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
Starting point is 00:39:22 no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
Starting point is 00:39:24 no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
Starting point is 00:39:24 no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, go back. Slow, no, slow down. No, drop it. You gotta drop it.
Starting point is 00:39:25 I gotta, because in my head I was like, oh, I think I won if I get this. And she took a step, a couple more steps, and then she stopped for a second and I saw her lower back just kind of do what mine did when I dropped it. It just gave out. And right there I was like, she's going to take two more steps and it's going to fall because you can't readjust your muscles up because everything in your back is already out and she did she took a couple more steps and it just it just like peeled right out of her hand and she didn't want it to go and you could tell she's like no i can make it and it was and it dropped and i i mean she did so well with it but i i was like
Starting point is 00:39:59 yeah i think i got that one i don't think when anyone readjusts though like i've seen world strongest man and everything. No one after a readjustment on that ever makes it more than like a couple, a few more steps. She did. She, she did a couple of times where it was able to be like, unless you're regrouping right away.
Starting point is 00:40:15 Yeah. Like if you're regrouping, cause you're smoked, it's like regrouping takes about as much out of you as just, just, just take 10 more steps instead of regrouping and taking three. Right. but it's hard because you're like i can't do anything right now i just gotta do something yeah like i don't want to drop it so if i just yeah kneel down here with it for a minute you know like maybe that'll help and that's what i thought too like there was a point where i
Starting point is 00:40:39 was like squatting a little bit lower yeah and i'm like if i just wiggle it up a little bit but then if i would have known i could have squat down and just waited a few seconds, I would have, but I was like, ah, I don't want to be that person. I just got to keep going. Just keep going. You can do it. So, and then I got that event and that was my favorite event of the entire series. Every event, any event really is. That was really fun that I was able to push myself to that point where I did not know that I could do that at all. I mean, it was fun. It was, and then we had to sit there and wait for another about 45 minutes before they announced who winners were. So, so do you, did you know for sure then though, or were you still a little unsure?
Starting point is 00:41:15 I was definitely unsure at the whole point because I had gone over to congratulate the girls and like, you guys did great. Good job. And they're like, well, the point wise, it's so close with us right now. And I'm like, I know, but I can't go over yeah never mind fuck you guys no no no no you don't compete the way we do then because that's what we do at the mass anomalous thing we're like yeah but you guys know each other and you guys can hate each other all you want no it's we don't it's not like tanner called me fat so many times during our competition while I was actually lifting. I think he yelled at you, drop it. You're fine.
Starting point is 00:41:47 Don't do it. Put it down there, lunchbox. You look tired. It's looking heavy, man. It's heavy, Tyler. Why don't you just set that down and come hang out over here? It's nice out over here. Let's have a nice, compelling conversation over here where there's not hard work happening. So now you got done.
Starting point is 00:42:10 They announced your name did uh now this was at was it u.s bank stadium right where were the vikings oh oh yeah yeah in front of the crowd yeah oh yeah there was hundreds of news cameras i mean the crowd went crazy 50 000 people000 people. Seat's 70. Not a decent turnout. I mean, acceptable. Concessions probably took a hit. I didn't bring anything in my sack today, in Tanner's sack. Oh, but I got something from my box. All right, let's see what's in Megan's box.
Starting point is 00:42:38 Let's see what's in Megan's box. We have, let's go, we're going're gonna go i'll do the get the good get the right i'm gonna go with the good angle here the thirst angle yeah the the thirst angle but my butt doesn't look that good so i don't know why they had to so megan's trophy is probably the most ornate and original and badass trophy that we have at massonomics gym i think so it is also definitely the most sexualized trophy that we have at the massonomics gym like the boobs are almost completely out and if i take a good look at the butt which i have like there's not i don't think the cloth goes all the way
Starting point is 00:43:26 where it's supposed to go that's a trophy you don't want to show your small children it was no it was actually really funny we were at i was down at the gym we're getting stuff set up and so i have some new prospective members dropping into the crossfit gym from time to time and there was a couple of ladies who stopped in who were just kind of looking at getting started and um and they kept glancing over at this like just pornographic that's basically just like just like bronzed tits and muscle and and i so i like it was to the point where i had to address why it was sitting on the reception desk it's literally the first thing you see when you walk in. And I said, well, my wife won the Minnesota state strong woman competition. And she, so now she carries this trophy everywhere that she goes. So here it is.
Starting point is 00:44:16 This is not what we represent as a business, but, uh, that's pretty awesome trophy. Very cool. I feel like you're going to have to tell the guys down at the gym to keep their hands off of it. That's true. Their grubby dick beaters will be all over it. Single old men will be. That's a pretty sweet trophy. Did you get any like, was there any like, you know at South Dakota Strongest Man
Starting point is 00:44:42 they gave away some protein and was there any weird, odd, what, South Dakota Strongest Man, they gave away some protein. Was there any weird, odd gifts? Nothing. Sponsorship stuff? Nothing? Well, if there was, I didn't stick around long enough because I saw that there were 25 food trucks behind us. This cool trophy is worth it, though.
Starting point is 00:44:54 That is pretty bad. That was worth it. It was. So it doesn't matter that you're from South. There wasn't any argument that you're from South Dakota and that you got Minnesota State Strongest Woman? They didn't contest that? I think even, wasn't some of the men's winners from Wisconsin? Yeah, I'm sure. And Tim was from South Dakota and that you got Minnesota State's strongest woman? They didn't contest that? No, because I think even, wasn't some of the men's winners from Wisconsin?
Starting point is 00:45:07 Yeah, I'm sure. And Tim was from South Dakota. Yeah. Yeah. How did Tim finish? Tim got, yeah, Tim Feathers from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He put on the United States Strongman, South Dakota's strongest man that we all competed in. He got second in his weight class, which is like.
Starting point is 00:45:24 Middleweight? Yeah, middleweight. So he qualified. So you qualified for nationals also. And that was... This is a different nationals. Because this was not United States Strongman. This was Strongman Cork.
Starting point is 00:45:37 Whatever it says there. So you qualified for nationals in this now as well. And first and second of each must have qualified. But he got second. I saw a little bit of video of his, and it looked like he now as well. And first and second of each must have qualified. But he got second. I saw a little bit of video of his, and it looked like he did really well. And then Brad Neitzel, also a friend of the podcast, he got second in heavyweight. Watching Tim do the frame carry was... Fucking Tim is fast as shit.
Starting point is 00:45:59 He's really good at that. I think he's really strong. Like surprisingly strong. He's bigger in person than he looks on instagram i remember we saw him first on instagram i was like how is this skinny guy lifting all those weights so fast yeah but he's a lot thicker in person than you know he's just tall so right but uh but no we're at the competition we're all like dying carrying these frames and shit when he was just putting on the meat. And so he just like told. Instead of having a few people pick it up.
Starting point is 00:46:26 Just like grabs 575 pounds and just fucking trots it back and drops it. Yeah. He isn't even out of breath. And the crowd, and it was funny. Everyone was like, what the fuck? Yeah, he, watching that one, it was. I mean, all of watching him. I'm sure he did really well at that event.
Starting point is 00:46:42 I think he's quite a technician too. Yeah. Like he moves really well. And I think he does a technician too he moves really well and I think he does he practices his movements a lot he's very thorough he's not a big fan of overhead press probably so I bet if you're not a heavyweight
Starting point is 00:46:56 that's just not going to be I'm just thinking of what he probably did well at the frame of course he definitely did well at that I would assume he won his class the log he probably didn't do as well but those of course, he definitely did well at that. I would assume he won his class. The log he probably didn't do as well. But those carries, I bet he probably did pretty decent too. There's a lot of movement.
Starting point is 00:47:14 Yeah. You know what I mean? We've got the frame carry. We have a carry and drag. We have a yoke walk and another carry. So those are good events where if you're a mover, that goes pretty well. Big Brad that got second in heavyweight. Probably not his ideal competition because he's a stat. I messaged him on Facebook, too, and he's just a static, strong guy.
Starting point is 00:47:35 Yeah, deadlifts over 750. That's what I said. I told him, I said, well, this would have been a great event for me because there's no deadlift. He goes, yeah, I fucking know. I really wish that there was a deadlift because I probably would have won it yeah right well you know he's going to win that event yeah i'm sure there's probably not a lot of people that allow deadlift right i mean it'd have to be an 800 pound deadlifter in order to do it and that's assuming
Starting point is 00:47:56 he isn't sticking a pr that day right right so big brad strong as shit we had some massonomics gear present there we had a couple hats and your stuff. Big Tim was sporting the Weekend Warrior. And I wore my Weekend Warrior the entire time. I think there was a shirt from Florida there. So we're covering some distance. That's cool. I'm hoping to see more.
Starting point is 00:48:18 It's weird that you got that whole thing in your box, though. Yeah. It must be a big box. So how about that so what else did we have today tanner did we have any yeah we got some reviews we do uh multiple this is a multiple review week so that's man i don't even know we should probably we'll say them all now because i'm assuming everybody's going to deliver again next week but uh yeah i agree so we're gonna're going to blow it all right now. Yep.
Starting point is 00:48:47 This is finally going to be the week that they start to grow exponentially. We're going to go. We're going to add by even numbers every week. Yeah. Okay. So we got two new reviews. All right. Here we go.
Starting point is 00:49:03 From June 19th from Sid underscore M underscore 42. Title, great podcast. Five out of five stars. Love listening to you guys. Definitely helps pass the time on long road trips or during work. Just a couple of guys BSing and enjoying the fitness lifestyle. Tell Tyler I've got 500 bucks. Cry face, cry face, cry face.
Starting point is 00:49:26 Oh, yeah, I think, yeah, cry face, cry face. Oh, yeah. I think, yeah. I don't want to put my, I don't want to put his money where my mouth was. You don't remember that? No. What was it? We were joking around. We were talking about the drinking the disgusting.
Starting point is 00:49:37 I think this is the case. Oh, yeah. About drinking the disgusting water. And then Tommy said we'd take a life-changing amount of money. And I said, Jesus, Tommy, I'd probably suck a dick for 500 bucks. And we'd probably get in trouble if we pulled off that transaction on the air or at all. We'll do that often. Yeah, obviously, just email me.
Starting point is 00:50:01 Okay. Props on that one. That's fine. Yeah, that's a good review this one june 20th five out of five stars title don't listen dot dot dot but he did get five out of five stars and this is from charles papa um don't listen oh okay i got i get it now the title is don't listen dot dot dot and then the the text leads in... while lifting. Gotcha.
Starting point is 00:50:26 These guys are funny as hell and you'll probably laugh too hard to complete your heavy lift. Do listen at other times, though, as their love for the Iron Game is infectious and their discussions are very entertaining. Also, each week I look forward to what Tanner has in his sack.
Starting point is 00:50:40 No homo. Well, you don't have to worry about the homo today because it was what was in Megan's box. So no homo even. Actually, I think our... No homo, not necessary. The official Massanomics hashtag is no hetero. I just want to know what's in Tanner's sack, no hetero.
Starting point is 00:50:59 Hashtag no hetero. We do our best to keep it all homo. I guess. So, well, that's good. Everyone delivered on the reviews. Tanner, you been doing anything new this week? Anything out of the ordinary? I'm on my...
Starting point is 00:51:17 Oh, I won't talk much about this. Tommy specifically said we have to wait until he comes, but I will just mention that we got some calibrated plates, IPF stuff at the gym. We can't get into that yet. But Tommy said he's got some good talking points, so just a little teaser for next week. I like it. Listen in to see what Tommy has to say about calibrated plates. I like it.
Starting point is 00:51:41 And I won't say anything else about that, or else Tommy's not going to be happy. Um, and I won't say anything else about that or else Tommy's not going to be happy. Tommy, Tommy is busy right now. Fucking like kayaking in fairy tale land. I don't even understand that these are real places. Like he's like on a fucking canoe in a place that there's mountains that I don't think exist in America that he's taking pictures of. I'm like, ah, Tommy. You're just like in front of a green screen. screen well are you fucking just like screenshotting postcards of course he's there
Starting point is 00:52:10 i think he is no no i'm no but i'm saying like of course he's there like you know like it's he knows about these secret places here's what i think is happening i think tommy and leah are just in a hotel getting drunk at the hotel bar. In Aberdeen. In, nah, maybe in like, I'm going to say fucking maybe Minneapolis. They're just hanging out. And they're just fucking making this into an outdoor adventure instead of him just getting wasted. So like, well, we got to get some pictures of, let's get postcards.
Starting point is 00:52:42 We're going to snap pictures that other people took. Because these are like casual cell phone pictures that look fucking insane yeah and it's not even fair because i'm over here spent the last three weeks slaving away every waking hour trying to get equipment hauled into this new gym and get this shit set up and he's kayaking to a dream scene well here we are fucking just navigating fairy tale he's like he's in fucking narnia right now yeah um i haven't even lifted in seven days how does that feel it's weird yeah um i feel like starting this crossfit gym is going to negatively affect my fitness at least for a period of time for sure i've lost about eight pounds
Starting point is 00:53:25 because i can't fucking eat enough food just thinking the irony of that though like starting a crossfit gym is negatively affecting your for sure i mean it makes perfect a lot of people would think that like oh you're gonna you're gonna open a cross gym oh it's great you just get to live in the gym all the time and and and maybe there will be time when i can eventually but even then as i'm looking at what we're how we going to have to staff it, probably not. It's going to have to be the first thing I do when I get there in the afternoon. I'll have about two hours before class starts.
Starting point is 00:53:52 And I'm not even going to be able to really train because I'll get super fucking stinky. So I'm probably just going to be able to lift, which is fine with me. But I will be the least fit CrossFit coach for sure. Fortunately, Derek is fit but but yeah so I've like been missing meals and eating late and like eating like shit well but but I'm eating like way less food yeah in general so it doesn't really weigh less calories but I have felt so sore still. Really? Because I think just the one, some of the work sucks,
Starting point is 00:54:28 like hauling stall mats. Yeah, like doing that weird stuff. You know, building the rig, and you're fucking always drilling into, everything you're drilling into fucking concrete, and you know, it all sucks. But like I am more sore now than I've been at any point during the first nine weeks of the cube.
Starting point is 00:54:43 So I'm just kind of locking this in as just a deload week. And I'm going to, because this was like crunch week. Well, there's nothing wrong with not training for a week after a lot of hard training. But also, I think this was exceptionally hard work. Some of it was heavy. Some of it was just, it's just a lot of, I think moving around on your feet. That much? That much.
Starting point is 00:55:00 All day. You know, working two jobs and shit. And also just being more mentally stressed like you gotta you know that that makes a difference yeah i think so and you know my sleep to me i know it does to me yeah so it's been uh it's been that's me complaining but but it's been we're we're like we'll be open in fucking seven days when this comes out it'll be you'll already be so i'll probably just spend most of my time counting my money then is that how it works We'll be open in fucking seven days, six days. When this comes out, you'll already be open. So I'll probably just spend most of my time counting my money then.
Starting point is 00:55:28 Is that how it works? I'll just be working out and counting money like every other gym owner. Just hanging out. Just hanging out, stacking paper or whatever. But yeah, it's coming along. We got all the mats down. Everything's built. It's fucking there.
Starting point is 00:55:44 Looks like a CrossFit gym from what I've seen. I missed half of the work on the weekend. From a shoe store to a CrossFit gym from what I've seen I missed half of the work from a shoe store to a CrossFit gym in fucking three weeks are you gonna sell any shoes or no just meth okay
Starting point is 00:55:52 well we have we gotta make up extra money we have the whole basement so everybody keeps asking me what we're gonna put in the basement and I was like well if we grow weed down there
Starting point is 00:56:02 it's gonna stink but we could probably cook meth down there yeah does's going to stink. But we could probably cook meth down there. Yeah. Does meth stink? Do you guys know? I have watched Breaking Bad. So what did that smell like?
Starting point is 00:56:14 It turned out blue, if that matters. I don't know then. What blue smells like. We'll stay out of them. We'll keep our fitness business separate. What about cocaine? Cocaine probably doesn't. I don't think you can grow cocaine in your basement.
Starting point is 00:56:27 Yeah. I don't know yet. How about crack? Like, I know that's a thing. Does crack grow on trees? Hashtag, does crack grow on trees? But, no, so that's coming along. But my goal tomorrow, then, is I have to get up early,
Starting point is 00:56:43 and I'm going to go down and get my first lift in in the new gym even though it's dirty yet it needs to be cleaned i'm just gonna lift there in the morning and then start doing all my shit but if as soon as i start doing shit i've said the last two days like i'm gonna just try and lift in the afternoon or something when i get some shit but then you get going and i get going it's like things where would i stop things don't go as well as you hope that they would and then you're like ever fuck i'm tied up with this i gotta get this done now and then next thing you know it's like i haven't seen my kids all day has the dog eaten them have they eaten but you've have you just been making them come there then it's like i have some yeah i'll bring them like i'll go spend like half a day there and then i'll bring them down the second half and they just
Starting point is 00:57:22 play xbox yeah but at least they're around around and they'd be playing xbox and laying around at home so they just do it there right um yeah like so the other day i messaged my my daughter and i was like i was like hey well tell you what it's running a little bit late why don't you guys just eat some lunch and then i'll pick you guys up about four or five and we'll just go out and eat dinner and then we'll go downtown and go to the concert and stuff that's down there and my daughter's like yeah there's not any food here i'm like oh fuck father of the year it's like i'm gonna abandon you all day and there's no food fuck so i had my mom deliver the mcdonald's like they're probably fine with that like a real fit fit person so but also that's what uh we are we'll be open by the time you hear
Starting point is 00:58:07 this yeah which is pretty sweet so everything's falling into place there we could probably wrap it up today yeah i would say the other thing we'll talk more about this next week ipf worlds raw powerlifting was this weekend i'm not tommy will want to talk about this too so we can wait for him on that ray williams did win best overall men's he did not break a new squat record um other than that that's that's the it's the big news yeah so we can talk more about that um that's about it i've been doing ryan the ryan defay 10 sets of 10 i'm two weeks two weeks. This will be my third week of that. The only note I'd say is overhead press, bench, and deadlift are all pretty easy for me. And squat is really, really, really hard for me to do 10 sets of 10.
Starting point is 00:58:55 Like the other ones are. Why do you think that is? Well, squat is the hardest lift for me in general. Do you think that's where maybe your inefficiency comes from you're a pretty efficient presser yeah and a pretty efficient deadlifter but very inefficient squatters that's why you're a strong squatter yeah but not efficient and you're a strong deadlifter but your squat i suppose my deadlift technique is a lot better than my squat and my course of 100 reps of squatting your shit would probably be like oh man what is going you probably do you
Starting point is 00:59:26 feel yourself get all over the place too you're just like um or maybe it's maybe almost from like set to set it's like i'm trying to but my low back just gets freaking and i'm doing higher bar and staying more for you would i would think more vertical would save my lower back and it's not maybe it's the effort to stay more vertical. And that's new, but that's good. It's better because it's new for you. And because it's so terrible, that's why I'm like, okay, there's a reason I need to be doing this. Because it shouldn't be this painstaking.
Starting point is 00:59:59 Other than that, that's about it. Yeah. Megan, do you want to complain about anything? Me and Tanner have just complained for a few minutes. She does her complaining to me off air all the time forever. No, I don't. This is kind of our relief from that. She's my wife.
Starting point is 01:00:15 You guys know that, right? Did we announce that? Actually, no. I probably didn't. You've been on the show before. That poor, poor girl. You were on probably episode 15 of the first 15 yeah ish you and leo leo from the gym so this is your second time on one of these days now she's coming
Starting point is 01:00:32 out of her elbow yeah shoulder thing now she's actually back fully lifting again yep yep and she's setting prs again after like a pretty major basically this is a humorous her humor is shattered into a near amputation yeah now she's a because of my wife yeah i'm cramping so well that's a good sign for us to call it for today if you guys want to support the podcast go to massonomics.com there you're going to find our articles and videos the support's going to come from you buying stuff in the shop including we've got the weekend warrior hat hat, the Weekend Warrior shirt. We still have some of these in the store? Yes.
Starting point is 01:01:10 I'd love to sell a few of those. It's a really nice shirt. The fit of the shirt is super cool. I wear it every weekend. That's like my Saturday shirt. That's a really comfortable shirt. Yeah. So this is the Stronger Than Cancer shirt.
Starting point is 01:01:22 It's pretty reasonably priced relative to our other shirts, too. And we got the Weekend Warrior hat in a few different styles. We have all sorts of hats now. We've been selling a lot of the shirt and the hat, so thanks to those of you out there that have been buying it, we've seen an uptick in that. We've seen them all over the internet, which is nice. Honestly, like, Kaler did say his name is pronounced Kaler, too.
Starting point is 01:01:43 It was. Yes. All right, that's cool. But now he changed name is pronounced Kaler too. It was. Yes. All right. But now he changed. He's going by Dr. Deadlift. Ooh. Which is pretty appropriate. Might as well. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:51 Because Ed Cohn called him Dr. Deadlift. So then he said, well, I can't give it to myself, but if Ed Cohn is going to call me Dr. Deadlift, I'm Dr. Deadlift. If Ed Cohn called me Fatty McFat Tits, I'd be like, well, I guess that's what I am. Hi. Nice to meet you. My name is Fatty McFat Tits to everyone else that i see like but at least ed cone did ed why do you call yourself that i didn't call myself that ed cone called me like oh well okay okay but taylor's been wearing
Starting point is 01:02:16 his hat rob has been wearing the shit out of his quads like rob i think his quads are actually getting bigger since he got the hat i did notice notice that. They're beautiful. Yeah. Oh, man. And I bet he gets some weird leg-crushing bear requests like Dan Bell. I wish he would, like, post more of that, too. We should ask him. When we have him on the podcast, we'll have to ask him. Because I bet, because he has some weird freak legs, not just being big, but, like, I bet there's some weird shit in his DMs. And he has a big, like, he's one of the more mainstreamish guy,
Starting point is 01:02:46 like because of his freakish quads almost like, you know, it's made him. And, and we do, and we do have also our, our running hashtag is quads like Megan as well. I was told actually quads are pretty ridiculous.
Starting point is 01:03:00 Yeah. I was told this weekend after I got done, the guy came over to me. He's like, you are very quad dominant. That messed up your duck waddle. Probably then there was told this weekend after I got done, the guy came over to me and he's like, you are very quad dominant. That messed up your duck waddle probably then. There was no room for it to go in there.
Starting point is 01:03:12 Or that's how she held it up. How do you feel then, just generally, with being the champ? Badass. Pretty badass. Just a little sore if I'm framing over, but still pretty badass. I get to say mean if I'm spraying me over but I mean still pretty badass I get to say
Starting point is 01:03:26 that I get to beat Tyler at this so I am now the strongest woman in South Dakota and Minnesota I was very supportive of her but I knew
Starting point is 01:03:34 that if she won this you're gonna have to hear that I would have to eat my last second place finish forever while she brags about holding two
