Starting point is 00:02:01 so that's what we do with sponsors. So this is episode 188. We got a lot of stuff to talk about. Again, we do actually have a lot of stuff to... We do. That's always like a running joke. We say we have a lot of stuff to talk about. Sometimes we don't have anything to talk about, but we just get through an hour.
Starting point is 00:02:17 But we have to actually intentionally limit this thing. We have to shut down the talking at like 50 minutes because if we don't start to shut things down at 50, we're're gonna hit like an hour and 40 minutes yeah and it's uh wednesday night and i have to go to bed eventually that is i do think many people know we record these on wednesday night yeah that's our recording night is wednesdays it used to be like sundays and saturdays but then you'd always miss what was going on in the weekend and then you'd be kind of like two weeks behind what this flow works pretty good i think it does it just wednesday turns into long days yeah like get up work all day get done working go to the gym rush home to eat as fast as
Starting point is 00:02:54 i can and then set up because podcasting between uh talking about ideas the actual recording and getting done podcasting typically takes from seven until almost 10 o'clock yeah it's three hours it is just about three hours yeah by the time we're yeah and so then i'm like well i mean yeah this is really fun it's also still kind of a job too so then when you think about it that way it's like oh okay well we worked like 11 hours today you know right yes not none i would describe none of it as backbreaking or grueling but but it is still 11 hours of not sitting around doing nothing. Right. You know?
Starting point is 00:03:28 It is. That is true. I like the Wednesdays. Like you said at the very beginning, we did more of a backlog thing where we always were sitting on an episode or something, which is nice. It was nice because every once in a while we'd get, but there was also three of us,
Starting point is 00:03:42 so we had way more schedules to work with too. That's true. And we talk more now, I think, about maybe like what's going on in the world of powerlifting and strongman like right now. Yeah. So when you hear this, it's usually a week or less behind of when we just said it. The other way, if we're still doing that, we'd be, you know know the information is then 15 days old or something yeah it kind of loses its relevance a little bit yes you know our hot takes are yes they don't know they don't know if there are hot takes anymore there's someone else's hot takes they're
Starting point is 00:04:15 a lukewarm take at that knows at that point um we did we can tell people that we did have to skip the what's in the can i didn't have anything new and i didn't want to trick tanner again this week so we're just enjoying our own i probably would have struggled again too so we just we just beat uh beat you guys to the punch here we're not playing the game we're just i want to think i would have known that this is peach pear but i cannot say that for sure i would have been able to get it you know i don't really think about it i don't i it's i might have had a hard time guessing peach pear for like the fourth time yeah you probably said ah is this lemon yeah um some of the lacroix lemon though because i asked is this limon or lemon and you know the fancy lacroix skinny ones
Starting point is 00:04:59 i've never had those ones those ones someone sent an instagram dm where it was limon on the and i was like oh i must that must have been in my mind somewhere i am a lacroix drinker but i'm not that fancy yet those are like the fancy they are are they even they're in a different shape can't even yeah they're taller and skinnier really dainty fancy very dainty i was we were talking about the office earlier and it's funny i was watching the office and the office quit airing in like what year 2012 or probably around there yeah yeah and someone on the show was drinking really i for sure i mean they've been around for what 40 years right 2012 but i for sure did not know what one was then you know i don't know if they existed in my brain as being a thing until a few years ago or
Starting point is 00:05:46 yes actually i do remember i worked in an office i saw someone bring one in one day and that was the first time i in my head made a connection that i don't know what that can is right there right and now look at me full blown addict over here yep that's right that is right wow uh tanner there's there's one show that i've started watching that uh who wants to be a millionaire regis philbin is hilarious uh no um that was a good show back in the day i remember being i remember being in fifth grade and thinking this thing is do you remember when the first guy won a million dollars i can't remember his name i didn't watch the episode, but I do remember. Because he knew the answer too, didn't he?
Starting point is 00:06:28 The million dollar question, he hadn't used a single lifeline. And the million dollar question, he called his dad. Yes. And he wasn't leading on that he was calling him. When you watch the show, you're like, oh shit, he doesn't know it. But didn't he say when he got on the phone, he's like, didn't he say, I don't know the answer? Yeah, he gets him on the phone and you don't know what he's thinking up to this point.
Starting point is 00:06:46 He hasn't like let you into he's he's played along and like made you think he doesn't know the answer. And he gets his dad on the phone and he goes, Dad, I'm just calling to let you know that I'm about to win a million dollars. And who else to be a millionaire? And they talk for, you know, you get 30 seconds. They talk a little bit. He hangs up and he has, you know, everyone's giving me that damn money. Have you ever seen Slumdog Millionaire? I haven't, actually.
Starting point is 00:07:10 Oh, okay. Do you know what it's about? No, I don't. I don't know well enough. It's been so long. But the guy's on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, and he's like, I don't know. Aren't they like India or something? That's what i
Starting point is 00:07:25 was gonna say i think india but it might be some other country that kind of seems but it does have to do with like a game he's like he's on the show oh i didn't know i had like it's um all these the the show like follows the questions of who wants to be a millionaire and they ask him a question and he goes through his memory like you live out his memory of why he knows the answer to this question and it's a circ like 15 separate circumstances that just all played out perfectly in his life that he knows the answer to all the questions because of this this thing that this crazy experience this guy had in his life he has the most coincidental right yeah like it's the most coincidental series did that movie actually like win some awards i think it i just remember being hyped up yeah
Starting point is 00:08:08 yeah it was enough years ago now that i would actually like to watch as we think about it i think that's it was a pretty interesting show i i think it's worth a watch but it's been a while maybe it sucks it might not hold up yeah but what i was going to say t Tanner is on HBO. There's a new series called Watchmen, which technically is a new, there was a Watchmen movie. I don't know, eight years ago, maybe.
Starting point is 00:08:31 Okay. And then there's a comic book that's existed for a very long time, but it sounds familiar. I have enjoyed, there's a three episodes out now. I have enjoyed all three. Okay. Even to the point where I knew my wife.
Starting point is 00:08:42 I'm like, I explained it to her. She goes, no, I won't like that. I started watching it without her. She hopped into the middle of one of the episodes she goes why didn't you just wait for me to watch this i said this is the show i explained you wouldn't like she goes oh no i i do like this this is cool so uh-huh so it's it's an entertaining one and you know it's not often that i catch a show where i actually have to wait week to week
Starting point is 00:09:01 so i don't like that i know that is not the fun part of it and then let alone that wait till you have to wait for a season oh you'll i guess forget of what he like what was the show about like to me westworld's the big one with that right now because they're gonna i don't think the third season of westworld comes out until like next year but i for sure hardly remember and it like, I already remember those shows were like getting so far. Like, you guys are just trying to be smart now. Yeah. Yeah. I did watch the El Camino.
Starting point is 00:09:33 Oh, did you? Yeah. Oh, I liked it. Did it take you right back to being in Breaking Bad? It did so much. But it is funny. You know that scene that's later towards the end of the movie, they cut back to when Walter and Jesse are in the- That cafe. Cafe. And it's like later towards the end of the movie they cut back to when walter and uh jesse
Starting point is 00:09:45 are in the that cafe cafe and it's like the old jesse it's like they've really changed this character because you forget how much he talked like the way he talked before and how much more the way jesse did yeah the way how much more immature jesse oh yeah like like just so much more like an obnoxious like teenager right right and it's like oh man he's not like that any like he's a he's a changed man now you know yeah yeah they did change his character i actually think i want to say when i was reading after i watched it was that a spoiler that i didn't say anything spoilerish i don't think that's really i don't think so no um i'm not just saying i really don't think that was but i believe when i got done i was watching i was reading a few things at el camino i think i read that initially in season one they were going to jesse wasn't going to exist after season one i don't know if they're going to kill him off or
Starting point is 00:10:35 if he was just going to not be a character anymore but because of how good their chemistry was they kept him around and around and around and i think it was the right move you know looking back on things that is good movie though and as i just thought about this now the the guys at lifting large said that we we talked about uh better call saul they said we need to watch that because it is really good so i was like ah maybe i will try that out one of these days is it's on netflix it's a netflix i think yeah but they said it's really good but it needs to be watched it's just quite a few seasons isn't it i think there's probably several out by now that's always the thing i think about with shows it's like god am i ready to make that investment because it's not just like oh we're gonna watch
Starting point is 00:11:17 this this eight episode mini series it's right you're in it for the long haul yes but then again what else do i have to do, right? It's not that show. There's going to be at some point in time over the course of a week that you're going to sit down and just want to watch some television. There might be. There's a good chance there will be. Tanner. My notes are jumping around.
Starting point is 00:11:40 Oh, yes. Oh, I know what I want to talk about here this is i've been wanting to bring this up for weeks now and i always forget the gym has so there's a few pieces of equipment but the thing i've always wanted to talk about yeah is we have two pioneer cut belts yes the gym purchased a couple and stock pioneer belts those things are the real deal yeah like they're just really really good especially when you consider what what were they like shipped and everything um i purchased them on the sale that they're you know they're one sale a year basically and i think uh we got the stock light brown ones which is like the little bit
Starting point is 00:12:23 thinner but the thinner between the two stock 10 millimeter yeah yeah and i think they were like 70 each and that is so cheap i bought like a medium and a large yep yep both in that kind of uh that raw leather yeah and they have the uh pioneer the embossed pioneer across the back yep and they're just one they look really really good yeah i like the color and the they just look they look classic yeah they have a super clean look to them like the whole thing is just it looks like timeless and the real deal and you feel like you're holding this quality piece like we have we have probably a belt from every major manufacturer down in the gym yes from
Starting point is 00:13:06 there's a lot of insert belts there's a lot of answers quite a few pioneer belts couple best belts there's some best belts are nice too is there titan belts down there too yes yep yep i'm pretty sure then there's some other there's a strong belt yeah and then there's kind of you know a few like off-brand belts yeah yeah there Yeah, there is one strong belt there. Or just not premier belts, you could say. Right. And they're all fine. They all work. Yes.
Starting point is 00:13:30 We're just really getting into it. We're just snobs on everything. Yeah, if you can really look and compare. But when you look at the Pioneer one, pretty much all those other belts, this is a thing. They're going to cost you $120-ish. And then give or take shipping. So they're going to be anywhere between $110 and $140, and then take anywhere between two and eight weeks to arrive at your door.
Starting point is 00:13:53 This belt was $70, and it showed up the next week, correct? Yep, yep, yep. It was really fast. Those other belts are almost twice the price. Do they have twice their performance? Not even close. You could make the argument they have twice their performance not even close you could make the argument they have worse performance even because they're not a pioneer cut yeah but i've just been really really impressed with the quality of those belts like how nice they are one of the guys so the pioneer cut you've used you've used them then one of the guys at the gym
Starting point is 00:14:18 this was an exact quote that he told me like yesterday he tried him out and he goes you know i thought the pioneer cut thing was kind of a gimmick but now that i've used it that's the only like i like that so much better now i know and it's like it's not a gimmick it is actually because i i had the only belt i've ever bought is um five years ago or so before i even knew pioneer existed yeah i had bought an inzer lever belt because then if you ask people what belt company do you buy from i think eight people out of ten would have said insert yeah that was just that's what i i don't i didn't even know what different company that existed then i think we have the same belt i think so yeah yeah just the the black i
Starting point is 00:14:58 think 13 millimeter lever belt and i got it you know i'm happy with it it's a it's a great belt but where i started to see maybe room for wanting something different is ryan my brother got he was the first person i ever knew to get a pioneer belt he got the 10 millimeter red red suede yeah uh single prong belt yep and i started using that thing for deadlifts and i'm like damn i really really like this belt and for me personally i like my belt for squatting to be almost as tight as possible right like to the point of where it almost feels like it's wrecking me it's so tight and not so much but that for deadlift no i can't get into like my proper deadlift position with a belt that tight i think a lot of people are the same way yeah and yeah yes and i don't think that is an uncommon uh
Starting point is 00:15:49 belief or way people that i think a lot of people do it that way yeah and i'm not saying like my my belt on deadlift is loose but it's it's a notch maybe too looser than squats yeah and it does make a difference and it just feels better and the whole the whole lift is better yep and so that's how i had been using belts for like the past two years i would use my lever for squat i would use ryan's for deadlifting yep and then this this uh pioneer cut one shows up it's like okay let's give it a try and the thing was always kind of like with it was always like i had a hard time either getting a single prong tight enough the way i liked it or if i actually really did get it to where i wanted it's like it just wasn't quite right for whatever
Starting point is 00:16:36 reason yeah and that pioneer cut having because what is it half inch holes instead of one inch holes yeah yeah it's weird how that half inch matters the difference every half inch matters it's and it's probably it's probably more than anything it's probably just a comfort thing that turns into a mental thing right but it makes a difference and i and i love it so uh one of the guys at the gym also bought the bought a 13 millimeter stock uh and it's really nice the black one i saw that and that is really nice it's like a mean looking belt now i kind of want to get a couple of those for the gym too and it's just it because that one is the one that's all blacked out and they even have that one even has on the belt loop the embossed pioneer logo on it too kind of one extra little touch uh-huh it's that is it is a cool looking
Starting point is 00:17:20 belt it's just the the branding is just subtle enough that it's not like screaming like hey look i got a pioneer belt right but it's yeah it's it's the real deal yes it is so that is our belt review if you need a belt just get the pioneer yeah get just just one get a pioneer belt and also i don't really care about the i mean i get that where people want it and stuff but the personalized thing doesn't mean as much to me. It doesn't matter to me as much. You're saying like personalized with like a design or something. Right, and like a name or something.
Starting point is 00:17:54 But like the stock ones just look so nice. I'm like, well, that – I don't know. Like I just clutter it up if I put like a bunch of my stuff on it. Yeah, I don't care. At this point, the only reason I would get one personalized is if I wanted of my stuff on it yeah i don't care at this point the only reason i would get one personalized if i wanted something massonomics right yes but even then i always like my stuff to be kind of subtle i don't like it to be like yelling but it could be you know i suppose you could buy the you know get the the same leather as the stock one and just have a
Starting point is 00:18:19 little you know an embossed yeah you could do like an embossed massonomics or something like yeah there's definitely ways to do i mean you could even do like tone on tone embroidery with right like there's a lot of ways but i just what they're doing with the stock really look good yeah i think that was an awesome business move too i mean maybe it doesn't make a ton of money on it but i think they do i think i think they move a lot of those things i think a lot i think that the the once they figured that out and started they're like damn why were we not doing probably those things probably because a lot of people in this day and age want instant gratification right and with that before that the best you get would be like you'd get a simple belt
Starting point is 00:18:55 which would maybe take them two weeks to make yeah and then another week to ship yeah where now you can almost get that instant gratification with getting your belt the next week i like that i mean people that's the way that's what that's the world we live in now where you just want it right almost get that instant gratification with getting your belt the next week. I like that. I mean, people, that's the way, that's what, that's the world we live in now where you just want it right away. Well, that's just what's to be expected.
Starting point is 00:19:12 Almost. I related to that. Uh, Dave Tate was talking about how when rogue came into the market, they completely disrupted it. He said, he agrees that it's for the better now, but he looks at rogue as, you know, that would be one of his competitors because he sells equipment. Absolutely. And he said he agrees that it's for the better now but he looks at rogue as you know that would be one of his competitors because he sells equipment absolutely and he
Starting point is 00:19:28 said the standard before them was uh four to actually he actually was saying like an eight to twelve week turnaround time if someone ordered a piece of equipment really it was just eight weeks was a standard from for mostly all equipment. And Rogue came in and said, we're going to ship that within the next week. So then the other people had to be like, wait, we have to do that too. Yeah, you had to bring your A-game now because you don't have an excuse anymore.
Starting point is 00:19:56 But he said the standard before that was, I think the number was eight weeks. Damn. And now it's like, if you're going to go buy something, you're like, well, what, what's taking eight weeks?
Starting point is 00:20:07 Like, well, and that's what I want it now. The, you know, I moved a few months ago, got a new house. And with a new house,
Starting point is 00:20:14 some new furniture was needed. And that's when you get, you forget about that world of we've seen, we've seen the range. You can go all the way from Wayfair, where Wayfair is shipping stuff for free. You can order something from Wayfair and have it for free on a Friday. It's like, damn, this stuff weighed a lot, and it shipped here for free, and it was fast.
Starting point is 00:20:34 Or you can also go to a furniture store and be quoted anywhere from six to 10 weeks for something to show up, and you just think, how in this day and age does anything take six to 10 weeks? Right. And you just assume they're just sitting on orders to bundle
Starting point is 00:20:49 so that they're only paying for like one freight charge. Right. But it's really, really annoying as a customer that, just because nothing else is like that anymore, you know? Everything is basically
Starting point is 00:20:59 outside of two days. It's long now, you know? Yeah. Like two days is the standard. Yeah, it is. And I think for the most part, mass atomic shipping pretty much falls in there too doesn't it does we ship pretty quick for the most part yeah barring like vacations yeah and then i get anxiety if i'm like out on vacation i see a lot of orders i'm like oh damn it this is also gonna suck ass when i do get home and there's like really paying for this one right now i like if an order comes in i like to get it out of my i like to get it done and out of my queue
Starting point is 00:21:29 and i'm like ha i caught up that is off my shoulder right yeah and when you're on we're on we're on like a four day five day vacation and they're piling up i'm like oh i'm going to pay for this when we get home yep so that's why you told your wife you said we just can't go on vacation anymore never leaving it's done yeah the other equipment that we got that actually just came in today has not even been on box so we'll probably talk more about this and maybe next week's episode but uh just as i mentioned that we got it was a rogue ohio deadlift bar from the boneyard so it is in the scratch and dent club i have it's the tube was sitting in my garage i haven't even opened that up to look at it but it apparently has something
Starting point is 00:22:11 in it but got that for like 200 bucks and it's that's that's it sounds way too cheap for like a it's not a specialty bar but it's not it's not your yeah it's not your standard power bar you know like you just always i think maybe it was like this until a few years ago before rogues started putting these things out like a deadlift bar could you get a deadlift bar for under like 350 no no you know especially because how many people made there was now there's a few other competitors in there too but even if you know you go back four years it was just okay in texas that would be was there any other deadlift bar at all i don't think so i don't think so yeah it was it was very uncommon i think it's just those two yeah so and this is the bare steel one so it will be more prone to
Starting point is 00:22:54 rusting but not hugely concerned about that and also not concerned about it being a boneyard bar because other than the end caps being different oh they actually do put different i think they i haven't seen one in person but on the site they say boneyard bars oh really i bet they do that so Because other than the end caps being different. Oh, they actually do put different end caps in it? I haven't seen one in person, but on the site they say Boneyard bars. Oh, really? And I bet they do that so that people don't. Think that this is like the quality associated. Right, right.
Starting point is 00:23:13 That makes sense. Yeah. But everyone says that the difference is always so minimal anyway. And here's the thing. After you use a bar. Right. After a bar is left in a gym for a month. Yes. I would probably even say after a bar is left in a gym right for a month yes it is not after actually i would
Starting point is 00:23:25 probably even say after a bar is left in a gym for a week it's now a boneyard bar in our gym it is if you that's hard to say that people are assholes no no but it's just it gets put through the paces well if we got 40 people and we got 30 people that live pretty consistently it's going to get used away if it was just uh my personal garage gym i would consider more about not buying a boneyard. I actually still wouldn't care, but I could see the thought of not. It's just like, I can invest in this because I know I'm going to take care of it. I'm the only one that's going to use it.
Starting point is 00:23:52 I'm going to meticulously wipe it down every time I use it, and I don't have to worry about anyone else doing something dumb with it. But there, I'm like, no, and now I'll worry less when it does get that first scratch. But, you know, it's just like, well, that's going to... I'm coming out of bed here. Yeah, right, right. Yep. So we've got that. Hasn't been used yet.
Starting point is 00:24:11 Excited to use that. So that'll be our second deadlift bar in the gym. And we do have two dedicated deadlift platforms. So it'd be nice for each to have their own deadlift bar. Dedicated deadlift bar. Right. So we don't get as much of the people... And the other bar we have is the oaky
Starting point is 00:24:25 deadlift yes we have the oaky so still need to get the texas to for the perfect triad yep um the other thing we got sitting in a box in my garage right now is the rogue echo bike that was on the month-long matt black friday rogue sale and uh you know it wasn't like it wasn't like half off or no it's like 50 dollars off it's like less than 10 off but which whatever right we're talking about it so the date they started on sale november 1st and i didn't know a before that didn't know how much it was going to be off i already knew i wanted to buy one so i was like well i want to buy one anyway so i'm going to get it while it's on sale yeah and we kind of mentioned i think it was just like coop at garage gym reviews had just said like rogue is going to buy one anyway so i'm going to get it while it's on sale yeah and we kind of mentioned i think it was just like coop at garage gym reviews had just said like rogue is going to
Starting point is 00:25:07 be having deals and i saw a picture of a yeah and you echo bike and i sent it to you and it was like oh no it's on sale the next day yeah i still never saw it pop up anywhere else like i don't think i really i don't know how they're promoting these deals and coop made the comment that these will probably go fast so i was like well shit if they're gonna go fast i knew the sale started at eight i've said i'm gonna be sitting there waiting at 755 so i can buy it and all their sales went start all their hot deals started at 8 a.m okay and i was waiting ready to put it in my cart you know on the product page waiting for eight to hit and the deal to kick in and the site just went to pure shit at eight that is surprising that even it crashed that even a site of that size and like
Starting point is 00:25:51 the resources they have that that still happens it took 45 minutes until i could buy it it crashed for 45 minutes wow though you could not and i had it on my phone and my i was trying my phone so for 45 minutes pretty much i was sitting there like refreshing, closing, re-going in. And it would pop up on one of them where it's like, oh, I can see the sale. It's $50 off. It's for $7.25 and free shipping. And then I'd try to click on it and then it would crash. And then I'd go to my other thing and be like, oh, there it is.
Starting point is 00:26:22 And then the sale was like, nothing ever works. And then the sale would go away on one of them. Oh, it would. And I'd put it in my cart and the sale wouldn't be showing up. And I'd be like, ah, don't want to. And then I'm like, well, should I just buy it and then be like, hey. Yeah, like, hey. Because I'm worried that they're going to run out.
Starting point is 00:26:38 Yep. And hey, like, reimburse me or credit me for that. Yeah. And I was like, I thought about it. And I was like, I don't want to do that. And then after about 25, 30 minutes in, I thought, what am I doing? This is, I don't know, $40 off,
Starting point is 00:26:54 and I've already wasted 30 minutes. And by that time, I'm like, well, it's just a matter of pride. Yeah, it's the principle of the matter at this point. I'm getting this for the sale price, and I don't care how much more time I have. Like, I was too much sunk cost at that time that there's no turning back, and eventually got it. And I thought, ha, suckers, I got one of them.
Starting point is 00:27:13 Yeah, I showed you guys. And a bunch of the stuff did run out, and I don't see that the Rogue Echo bikes have ever run out. So I bet they probably had 30,000 of these things sitting there. Just sitting there waiting for it to go. Well, one of these things sitting there. Just sitting waiting, ready to go. Well, one of the interesting things looking at the sale is that you could not only buy a Rogue Echo bike, you could buy a two-pack, a five-pack, and I believe a 10-pack as well, too. You could buy a 10-pack of rowers for like $8,000.
Starting point is 00:27:37 Oh, man. That's some rower money right there. So the Echo bike was 725 plus shipping and everyone says it's the it's the best we're gonna find out and i i think we talked about this briefly on the podcast you know when i picked up uh you purchased that used cerakote rogue ohio power bar yep when i picked that up the garage gym i picked that up from the guy had a rogue echo bike and i knew that the echo bike existed it was on my radar just it was on my radar just for the fact that it it was a thing not in like oh i want to use that or i would ever want
Starting point is 00:28:17 anything to do with that and it was in this guy's garage and i was like oh it looks kind of cool and when he said he's like no go ahead sit on it try cool. And when he said, he's like, no, go ahead, sit on it. Try it out. I'm like, you sure? He's like, oh, yeah, trust me. You're going to love it. And I was like, whoa, this thing is legit. It's not just like a little airdyne bike. It's built like a tank. It is built like a tank.
Starting point is 00:28:38 And that kind of flipped the switch on me. Like, damn, this is something worth looking into. And I think at cardio, especially in this part of the country where starting pretty much right now you can't go outside for the next six months so it gives you something to i don't know get the blood flowing a little bit outside of like a heavy squat set you know and it was coop when coop uh from garage gym reviews and he did give his praise to you. And he said what we were lacking is a couple of good pieces of cardio equipment. He did say that.
Starting point is 00:29:08 Here's one of them. Yep. I would like to get a good Concept 2 rower in the mix at some point in time too. I think that'd be cool too, yeah. Might take a little while because just how expensive. And they just don't go down.
Starting point is 00:29:17 That's the part that sucks is that this really high quality cardio equipment is so expensive. Like I would rather get like three new barbells instead but that also at this time the utility like the marginal utility of us getting another barbell it's like it's almost just like people just like well there's a bar there i get like it doesn't even mean anything it's like lost its value right right like a lot of people won't even know there is a new one no i mean we have so many now and like but i like there's a
Starting point is 00:29:45 good case for needing not needing but like there's a good case for wanting another deadlift bar so i could justify it but like for the most part at this point the utility of getting a really good exercise bike there's a lot more value overall for the gym yeah and it starts to expand like the possibilities right you know what you can do with your workouts too yes exactly so we'll give our real review on those once we actually unbox them and use them i'm excited for it yes it looks like there's some assembly required on the bike because the box that it's sitting in does not look like there's a full assembled bike inside of it it just didn't get this bubble wrapped package that looks like a bike yeah i hope it's one of those tents that
Starting point is 00:30:23 you just like throw and it like flips open yeah oh there's a bike over there yeah but you so you did mention though you said dave tate did they he said that rogue changed the game on shipping he specifically shipped pretty fast didn't they yeah and i know this isn't a rack or anything but it's from ordering to at home in my garage was five days that's pretty good and i wasn't really expecting a 130 pound bike and a 45 pound bar yep yep the box on the bike is pretty heavily damaged i don't like road for that i assume that's a ups problem probably is that what it ships ups uh yes i'm pretty sure those are both ups yes yeah i'm sure the guy's like oh this ass yeah because there's been quite a few
Starting point is 00:31:06 things that you know quite a few bars and like that if you've been it'd be interesting to talk to a person that's like worked ups for like 15 years yeah and be like how has that changed like has there been way more heavy shit showing up right lately right and between i would imagine between amazon and like fitness and things like that the pat and then just e-commerce online in general yeah because in general you deal with have to be so different now compared to 15 years ago even maybe even six years i've got to think i don't really know much about it i've never really looked into it but like ups and fedex have to be getting rich off of the change in e-commerce like in Amazon like in I don't know how the USPS well the USPS isn't though I think because I think that was the thing is like
Starting point is 00:31:50 UPS and FedEx charge a certain amount and it's like well we can just dump everything on USPS now and I think the USPS is like getting like destroyed by Amazon because they're under government right you know right right it's essentially they're not government, you know. Right, right. It's essentially a government agency. So they have rules. Run well no matter what. Well, yeah. Yes, that. They're not a private enterprise. Yep. And then they have rules on they can only move up a certain percent each year.
Starting point is 00:32:12 So it doesn't matter if, like, every, like, the world changes and, like, all right, we've got to double our packaging costs. Like, I think they're, like, under law that they can only go up a certain percent. Right. And so UPS and FedEx can keep just kind of doing their thing and let usps be the ugly stepchild right right you know logistics of fitness yeah so we got in on those early black friday deals so that seems to be a trend now that i see titan fitness has these like long sales. So that is the big thing. So we're in November.
Starting point is 00:32:49 A lot of people know this time of year, especially in fitness, that you will find deals on things. Those do exist. Masonomics will have some coming later in the month. But Rogue did be the industry leader saying we're doing black friday deals all month long right i didn't i i guess i didn't pay super close attention but i didn't hear of anyone else being like yeah we're also doing them all month long like they came it came after rogue said and
Starting point is 00:33:16 and rogue still you can if you look on the hot deals they still have a bunch of stuff that's not going to go on sale until the day after Thanksgiving. Yeah, so basically just saying we have a month of sales coming. Right, right. So they're kind of keeping you paying attention. But now, as a reaction, a lot of other companies are. Yeah, I see Titan, of course. And I didn't know that they even had anything. Yeah, they do.
Starting point is 00:33:39 Their stuff is always on sale, though, anyways. That's like their price. They're like JCPenies or uh who's classically like that not walmart well just yeah like any department store it's just right everything's always 40 off right yeah like the herbergers or even most furniture stores like yeah you can't go into a furniture store and buy something at full price yeah it's impossible overall i i appreciate more like what walmart does just this is the price. This is just what it is. Like, hey, let's not play this game with each other.
Starting point is 00:34:08 But I still get suckered into the art of feeling good about a deal. It's just in this day and age, it's so much easier to check a line and be like, is this a deal or not? Right. You know, like that novelty is, it's hard to stick to that. Well, in real life, I so rarely go into a store to make a purchase like that anymore that it just doesn't come up like it used to for everyone, probably. Yeah, yep.
Starting point is 00:34:34 But anyways, if you are interested in saving some cash on some fitness equipment, this is the month to be paying attention. Yeah, I'm curious to see what Kabuki does on Day of the Thinker on uh yeah because they've they've always done some pretty decent sales too i've bought some we've bought some stuff on their sale maybe the duffalo bar and did we get the power bar power bar i might have got both at the same time i think so yeah and that was because they do a thing where the more bars you buy the more the more percent off you get and i do and then you said i can't afford to not buy right it's like literally costing me money to not purchase yeah yeah um but i i do really want
Starting point is 00:35:10 the transformer bar and the um the cadillac or not the cadillac bar not the cadillac bar the trap bar yeah that trap bar does look really cool yes yes and i i want both of those but they're both all you know kabuki stuff is priced pretty premium i mean it's really good the stuff we yeah yeah power bar is awesome it's not like something you just do a quick little impulse it's not a 200 boneyard bar yes it's a much higher price tier than that right right um but if you are want to check out sales and stay up you know stay up on what's going on, Garage Gym Reviews is a good one to follow. He's kind of got the market cornered on having the up-to-date sales. I would say that is the source.
Starting point is 00:35:52 Yes, for sure. So yeah, if you're not following him, you are missing out. That's right. Tanner, let's do some ads. Ooh, ads. As you're getting those ads ready, I would say this isn't one of our Black Friday deals, but the camo Eagle hoodie sweatshirt that I'm wearing right now is on sale. It's like $7 off of our normal price,
Starting point is 00:36:14 and there's no code necessary for that. So you can snag one of these for just barely over $30, and it's a really nice hooded sweatshirt, too. That hoodie is the hoodie that companies sell for $60 plus. If you buy this and you get this, you'll be like, oh, this is a sweet hoodie for $30. It is a very good quality hoodie. And it's got the sweet non-Nazi related logo on it.
Starting point is 00:36:37 Someone DMed the other day and they wanted to buy this, but they just wanted to make sure that it didn't have any uh nazi affiliation and i was like i was thinking i'm not gonna tell you it does if it did you know that was i thought i was like i wouldn't say that it did even if it did but i was like no it doesn't yeah it doesn't no but also i i get why you're confused because armies have used an ego right it's just some kind of or right ever right um also our curl hard shirt is on sale no code necessary on that you can get that for like 19 under 20 on the curl hard shirt limited quantity and if you're a 4x if you're a 4x there's maybe one yes deadlifter tank top
Starting point is 00:37:18 waiting for you uh 3x 3x okay if you're a 3x you can get the deadlifter tank top for like $15 or something. That one's just been, there's just been, it's just been waiting for a 3X. The lift tanker? Gone. The lift tank? Completely gone. We didn't have any problem with that, but he's just waiting for that 3X special someone to come along. And to get a really good deal.
Starting point is 00:37:40 Yeah. Probably, but I think there might be two, so you could get like, just buy both of them. One for nice, and one to keep nice to wear around and one for the gym that's right that's how you should do it one for going out one for going out exactly all right today's show is brought to you by lifting large lifting large is your one-stop online shop for power lifters strongman highland game athletes crossfit athletes and anyone that lifts iron. Starting point is 00:40:57 without a coach and have been looking for a competitive edge remember to check out hybrid performance method.com hybrid has 15 different strength and fitness programs covering everything from powerlifting and strongman to gymnastics and general fitness, all included in one training membership. That's not all. Hybrid also offers one-on-one personalized nutrition coaching that uses lifestyle habits and a flexible approach to shape your nutrition plan around your current lifestyle instead of turning your lifestyle upside down in order to support unsustainable habits that will only work in the short run the way most programs do if you're ready to take your training nutrition or both to the next level use code mass in all caps for five percent off membership to all programs for the life of your membership thank you to hybrid spud
Starting point is 00:41:41 inc and lifting large for sponsoring this show. And as long as we're talking about hybrid performance, last couple weeks I asked if anyone out there has any good testimonials that has used hybrid for either nutrition or training coaching, and we've got a couple now, a couple good submissions. So I was thinking we'd read them all, but it might be better to just read one and then have... Maybe save it. Save it.
Starting point is 00:42:08 I like that. I like that. So I'm going to randomly pick one of the ones that we have. Reach into the hat. Yes. So today's hybrid testimonial comes from Jay Lowry. And I did verify with these people that they're all right with us if there was if this was amazon it would say verified buyer yes verified buyer jay lowry he said hey i'm a big
Starting point is 00:42:32 fan of you guys podcast content and clothing he said whoa we wanted a hybrid review not mass and i was like but i'll but we'll take it yeah we'll take it i've also been using hybrid performance method for my training for the last five to six months so he's been uh using their training program i'm a little little under two weeks out from a meet here in des moines and your guys podcast is a big reason i decided to compete so this is like a double whammy testimonial liking this yeah it's like uh massonomics hybrid yeah yeah um your guys podcast the big reason i decided to compete their programming has helped me be accountable and increase strength in the three lifts as well as overall body composition and general fitness and that seems to be something that people say a lot with hybrid is not only are they getting
Starting point is 00:43:22 stronger but they're improving their body i think yes i that is the impression i get too that the body composition is the big one with a lot of the photos right right he says i don't even get your lucrative five percent discount and i would still say it's well worth the money so at full price he says it's worth it so it's definitely worth that if you use our 5% discount. And then he sent a video. Here's my final heavy deadlift of prep at 620 pounds in the deadlifter tee and some hybrid tights. Wow. So this guy is on the ball. That is a real fan right there.
Starting point is 00:43:58 I'll share his deadlifting video on our Instagram page as well. But that was from Jayay lowry awesome that was really good yeah thanks for that jay yeah i'll just uh as a teaser for next time the next one is also a very good testimonial just that's a pretty big they talk about massonomics even more um i don't know if he talked about his massonomics as much but as far as hybrids concerned it's a pretty okay okay well we can we can let that slide too right so that that was cool so if also if you if you um you know we'll take more of those if you got a testimony on hybrid we'll we'll read about that on there as well or if you have a massonomics test yeah too just send in your testimony how we change like
Starting point is 00:44:41 we used to always ask we used to always ask for podcast testimonials we'll just take massonomics massonomics in general and you don't even have to deal How we changed your life. We used to always ask for podcast testimonials. We'll just take Masonomics testimonials. Yes, just Masonomics in general. And you don't even have to deal with sending them through that pesky Apple podcast interface. You can just DM directly to Masonomics. Just let us know how we just vastly changed your life for the better. How we dramatically improved your life. Very dramatically. Well, we know it's dramatic so but you you can
Starting point is 00:45:07 still tell us how dramatic it is though the podcast reviews honest god have gone up 10 a 10 count in the last couple weeks and you can't read one of them so what i would ask if you're one of the people that's left to review out there you look it up if you can see it screenshot it to me and send it to me and i'll read it but i do know one time uh because we remember a long time ago and we've had this problem forever i do remember now that i did a little bit of research on it and it is a known problem that these things are hard to find i think it said one of the reasons can be that people that are in different like countries countries like different countries they technically have a different like itunes i know it's not itunes anymore countries. They technically have a different iTunes. I know it's not iTunes anymore,
Starting point is 00:45:47 but they have a different Apple store than the rest of us. So the things that they're seeing and we're seeing can be different. So that could be one reason. That could be part of it. Yeah, that makes sense. It also could just be because
Starting point is 00:45:59 it's through Apple Podcasts and it's this great mystery. Just deciding whatever they want. Yeah, I wouldn't doubt that one either. so we're not reading those to offend anyone not not reading those to offend you it's just because we can't see them but keep them coming keep the number of them coming the number looks bigger and really that's all i care about makes me feel i i go to bed at night after checking the number and go ah that apple podcast review number went up by two. I can sleep.
Starting point is 00:46:26 Finally. I can sleep tonight. Finally, it's 145 star reviews. Yep. That's the tipping point. Mm-hmm. This is what's going to do it for us. Tanner, I have something here that has been...
Starting point is 00:46:44 Stewing? Stewing a little bit. Athlete's foot. No, worse. So Halloween was this past weekend. Oh, yes. And it just... I've always noticed it a little bit,
Starting point is 00:47:01 but it's becoming really popular lately. And that is something that people love to do. Now, I don't want to hate on people for doing something they love to do. Everyone should be entitled and allowed to do what they love to do. You don't want to yuck their yum? I don't want to yuck their yum. But also, I don't want anything to do with yucking the yum. I don't want anything to do with that thing.
Starting point is 00:47:24 But what I'm talking about here is deadlifting in costumes. What? And it's always deadlifting. It's always. You know what? I didn't even realize. You just said it. The note I made to myself was lifting in costumes.
Starting point is 00:47:36 And I just said deadlifting in costumes because I can't even really think of anyone benching in a costume. People don't do that. No. I don't even really can't even come to mind people squatting in costumes no it's just people love to deadlift in a costume yeah and i think what it comes down to is deadlift tends to be the lift that people usually can handle more weight at yep and you can it's more visual it's more as instagram is concerned especially in comparison to a bench press yes yes yes and you know squat the rack's not in the way and all that you don't have that spotter hovering behind you while you're
Starting point is 00:48:09 some costume squatting could be really difficult too like the position like it's a little easier to get in a deadlift position than it is a full deep squat yeah those costs but there's just been this thing of everyone does it like it's like the funny cool cute cutesy thing to do and i'm just i don't know if i'm just turning into an old man but i don't really get it it's not well not even really original at this point anymore that's kind of a big thing it's very far beyond original yeah like i get like to me some of the first ones that come to mind and i know they weren't even the first ones to do it but probably what i don't know like six years ago like i remember silent mike and omar isa i've had ones of like in the power ranger suit right right and even it's like okay yeah i get it you're
Starting point is 00:48:53 in a kid's power ranger costume and you're dead lifting like if that's what it takes for you to get hyped about something sure yeah but um but after like the 400th one you see it yeah but every year it's just like everyone's like like and you know people are like planning out yeah on on halloween oh i have a big deadlift day planned in a pretty sick costume yeah some of them are events i know like where people are having i'm okay with when it's events and fundraisers because yes you are a gym is having a there is a component halloween, then it's like a party. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:27 You know, then that's a little. But the thing, I just have a hard time getting behind like, oh, we're going to do it for the views. Like, we're getting a costume on. It's like, but also everyone else is. Like, that's not. I don't know. Maybe I'm being too critical. And maybe it's just people trying to have fun.
Starting point is 00:49:44 And I sound like an old guy hating on everything but also it just is very played though for sure like even the people doing it could have to agree like at this point everyone has done it and it's just like there's nothing that someone's going to do that you haven't seen already
Starting point is 00:49:59 you know there's like it's kind of it's run it it just yeah it just I think at the end of the day it just feels really played out Yeah. You know, there's like, it's this kind of event. It's run up. It just, yeah. It just, I think at the end of the day, it just feels really played out. Yeah. Right. And I know next year we'll probably have this exact same conversation. Yep.
Starting point is 00:50:13 Yep. Because you know it's going to happen again. Probably even more. Yeah. Because someone saw someone do it this year and they're like, oh, I didn't do it. Yeah. So then they're going to get on the train next year. Right.
Starting point is 00:50:23 And hop on that. But I don't know this is probably the public service announcement that unless your gym is doing some type of fundraiser or event don't dress up and just don't don't just stop and go to the gym you do dead lifting right right you know just just go deadlift it is funny that dead lifting just came out of your mouth and that wasn't even like the planned topic but it is it just is deadlifting lifting in costumes but it is dead there's no there's no videos of people like curling no which that one i mean i think a lot of people love to do curls but yeah i don't i don't remember seeing any videos of people curling in a costume it's
Starting point is 00:51:01 deadlifting that's very true. So maybe next year, if people start squatting in costumes, maybe we'll allow that one. That one might pass. See, that's what someone needs to do in order to... To make it original again. Yeah, to break the mold a little bit.
Starting point is 00:51:15 Be like, screw the deadlifting in costumes. We're going to squat in costumes. Flip the game on its head. We're going to tear all of the lower halves of these costumes in half. Just blow them out. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:26 Yep. Hopefully wearing something underneath. Yeah. Well, I'm glad I got that one off my chest, Tanner. Yeah, it feels good. The only other thing, we're already getting down there on time, and we have not even talked about Big Dogs. Oh, that was kind of our central topic.
Starting point is 00:51:41 That was kind of sort of supposed to be our central topic. It might even be the title of the podcast. It probably is. What else have we talked about? We are 50 minutes deep at this point. Sometimes the title of the podcast, people probably seem to be like, oh, that'll be interesting. And they listen and they're like, do these idiots ever talk about that?
Starting point is 00:51:56 You made me wait an hour just to get to that? Because what else have we talked about? Lifting in costumes. Lifting in costumes, rogue equipment. have we talked about? The lifting in costumes. Lifting in costumes. Rogue equipment. So the title could also be like Black Friday deals of
Starting point is 00:52:09 the century. There we go. And then people click on it and be like, oh, you guys also didn't really give me any specific Black Friday deals either. Really no takeaway. Just didn't really have any takeaway from that entire episode. I'm trying to think of what I even just listened to.
Starting point is 00:52:27 That's kind of what the podcast is. That probably is the underlying message. What just happened to me? Yeah, that is the podcast in a nutshell. No, this is the podcast in a nutshell. How did I get in this bloody nutshell? I was just the other day. Lost some powers.
Starting point is 00:52:43 Allow myself to introduce myself. I'm Richie Cunningham, and this is my wife, Oprah. And it makes no sense, but it's Austin Powers. And the other one, I'm like, you didn't happen to see anything at all. He's talking to the blind attendant in the bathroom. Austin Powers was very funny in its time. It still is very, very funny. And probably the craziest thing is,
Starting point is 00:53:14 I don't know, like I know there's comedians that could and would make that movie. I don't even know like in this climate we live in, if that movie would ever come to exist now. I don't know. in this climate we live in if that movie would ever come to exist now. I don't know. I was having a discussion with some friends the other day. Would Michael Scott's character from The Office even exist now?
Starting point is 00:53:34 They talk about a lot of stuff. There's a lot of jokes in there, especially the early years, which would be... It's like 15 years old. Yeah, like 2005, 2007-ish, somewhere in there. Yeah, like 2005, I would say. And yeah yeah like 2005 i would say and they're talking about stuff that you probably don't put on like network sitcoms anymore and like michael's approach to like gay people is way different than like that's the big thing is like for uh
Starting point is 00:53:55 gay stuff that i'm like and he's not like he's not like do that being like violently aggressive to him he just has a very ignorant approach. That is his whole character. He just doesn't know. And so that's how they show everything. But yeah, a lot of that probably won't fly anymore. I agree. But he gets the pass. And if you watch Seinfeld, there's a lot of stuff on there too that's the same way.
Starting point is 00:54:17 And that's even older. That's 90s. I was just saying, that's just starting to get to any comedy. They start to get old. They're pushing buttons that people don't feel comfortable with anymore but very true but uh austin powers love it yeah how did i get in the splitting that show what's what's the best awesome powers tanner oh so the first one is the spy who shagged me is that right and then the so that would be with the there's no fat bastard in the first one no no fat bastard no uh mini me no mini me uh what's that verne troyer yeah is he still alive no he died uh
Starting point is 00:54:53 a year or two ago i followed him on instagram and then i saw it on there and it was so what's the second one uh the second one is no the first one isn, the first one, isn't the first one, it's just, third one's Goldmember. Second one is, so the first one, who is the girl? The first one, the girl is the dark character. It's Vanessa Cunningham. Okay. And the second one is the. Heather Graham.
Starting point is 00:55:19 Yeah. Why can't I think of the name of the second one? I don't know. I think I'm picking, like the first one is the one where he's like, who throws a shoe, right? Where the odd job character throws a shoe at him. Or is that the end of the second one? I don't know. In the first one,
Starting point is 00:55:34 well, I guess this is maybe a scene in all of them where he's getting unfrozen from cryogenically frozen. That's the first one. He's going along the conveyor belt and he's like peeing at the urinal. Oh, no, no. The first one is International Man of Mystery. The second one is The spy who shagged me okay that is god that's okay that's right i see i want to say the first one is the best but the fat bastard and mini me were not in
Starting point is 00:55:56 the show until the second one i think and they're a pretty big part of the like what made some of the stuff funny yeah it it's it's for sure the conversation is for sure between the first and second yeah right right definitely i would think i'd say maybe the second one just because of fat bastard and and mini me and just and that's when it was really hitting its stride yes right it's like oh this is great but also the first one likes made all of the bits like that yeah i i will believe the argument on either way. They're both amazing. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:27 And I was like, for a split, just it wasn't even a real thought in my head. But for just a very split second, I was like, who played Fat Bastard? And then I'm like, wait, Mike Myers played everyone in the show. You know, it was like. Yeah, he was like everyone. Which is also very odd. Yeah. It's funny. I mean, I i could just quote i'm just thinking of
Starting point is 00:56:47 other scenes oh yeah who does number two work for you know yeah taking a shit like just the tank of sharks with laser beams on their heads and oh is it isn't the second one then like or is it the second or the first one where they're like ah actually and like we couldn't get the sharks like what are these like our sea bass yeah are they well he goes are they ill-tempered very much so yeah ill-tempered i mean this is like probably like at this point the least funny joke of the whole thing but it just at the time it's so funny that he thought a million dollars would be like so much ransom someone for and they're like and actually like a million dollars really isn't very meaningful anymore.
Starting point is 00:57:26 Didn't they start Starbucks or something? And that's where they have all their money. Yeah, he's like, they have a really good legitimate business. And the other one, what's it, Frau? But is it evil? Yeah. And Frau Farbissano. Isn't it her?
Starting point is 00:57:41 She's the leader of the militant branch of the Salvation Army. Yes, that's right. Somebody does really, really dumb things. Yeah. And it's still just the... I think it's the first one where he gets that cart stuck between the two walls. And he does the 4,000 point turn where he can't get turned around. I could just go on and on about it.
Starting point is 00:58:02 I'm sure a lot of people listening with us are reminiscing too. Probably, yeah. Like, yeah like huh yep classic stuff but anyways i think we were trying to talk about big dogs i have no idea how we started talking about austin powers but mr bigglesworth was a cat and there was a wild cat this year at big dogs yeah no uh big dogs did happen this past weekend. There was a total of like, what, seven participants? Seven lifters. Pretty low number there. Not the biggest number they've had. Maybe the smallest number they've had.
Starting point is 00:58:33 Yeah, it'd be the smallest that I would know about. The projections. We both projected who our winners would be after very intense analysis, Tanner. Yes. I believe I said... I picked the first three on the list. I can't remember. You picked Odell, Uri, and Dylan.
Starting point is 00:58:57 Yes. Yeah, I think I said Odell first, Uri second, and Dylan third, I think. Yes. So you've picked odell correctly you picked the winner and odell did win it and you picked yuri third right no i picked yuri second i think uh i think i picked your second yeah either way i picked dylan hell regal to win it and he did not he got like fifth but he was very sick. He was apparently violently ill and lost like 16 pounds.
Starting point is 00:59:26 Ooh, yeah. Not what you want going into a meet. So that's my excuse for not picking the right winner. But like you said, Odell did win it. Yep. Did Uri get second? Uri got third. Okay.
Starting point is 00:59:37 And who got second? Graham Hicks. Graham Hicks. In his first ever powerlifting meet, totaling 24-25. The highest total ever made on a Masanomics rookie card. And probably the highest ever first meet ever? Definitely the highest ever. Because I looked at the 12 people ahead of them, and none of them was from their first meet.
Starting point is 00:59:57 Yeah. So that's pretty cool. He tied Thor for like the 12th highest raw total of all time. Yeah. And he did it in his first meet obviously he's been a strong man for a lot of years it's not like he just started lifting yesterday but his first full power lifting meet yeah that's a very impressive i really enjoyed uh we talked to or i think we had a post talking mentioning it on instagram and ryan said uh
Starting point is 01:00:24 the first ever or what do you say the second ever strong man to do a power to meet ever ever and he said ever like three times it's an obvious joke yeah and someone was like um hello casmar uh go rattle off like five and the list goes on yeah and i like uh a guy that regularly follows Masonomics you know he's in on all our jokes and everything and he just replies in a comment he just goes whoosh and I was like for a second
Starting point is 01:00:53 I was like oh what does he mean whoosh and he's like ah it's the joke going over the guy's head and I just really laughed once it hit me what he meant I was like ha I didn't see that he just goes whoosh then after that the guy deleted his comment did he yeah he's like it's always a matter of time before the comments get deleted i'm never coming back here i've been had yeah they set the trap and i fell for it
Starting point is 01:01:17 but it was just such an obvious trap by ryan too is like the way he wrote it he's like no one has ever done this well when i saw it i was kind of like oh i wish i would have wrote that all right right it's funny so not very many competitors yuri odell i think was like four for nine yuri i know went four for nine he got his opening squat his opening deadlift and i think maybe two benches but he put up his biggest total of all time oh is that his biggest total ever yeah his big what was it 23 something it beat his last meet last meet what had been his biggest total 23 53 yeah and it was just good enough for third and obviously the lightest guy to ever podium at big dogs no doubt about that yeah so the three podium totals were still all really high um i don't know just not very exciting for me with
Starting point is 01:02:10 no americans in that yeah yeah that does take it out of it before just even names that were very familiar with or or even somewhat familiar with we're just kind of missing yeah and all the people all those guys i talked about it last episode that i had hoped we're going to do it and didn't do it and that yeah what i kind of wonder is this is this on the up is after big dogs four is it on the upward tick or the downward well it just kind of feels like it's turning into this uh like the the australian invitational right of not a federation right it's just a invitational Australian exhibition kind of. To me, this is the least exciting one that there's been. Yeah, I agree.
Starting point is 01:02:50 I agree. But it's not to say next year they couldn't get these five big names and it's huge and then all of a sudden it's the coolest thing that there is. And it's 100% dependent on the people and the performances. Right. And i guarantee from the promoters there's been no lack of like they i'm sure they sent an invite and tried to get every single cool yeah big i think it's turning into this turning to be like a decent amount of premier meets right over the course of a year that especially if you live in this part of the
Starting point is 01:03:21 country flying fly to australia i don't know i'm assuming australia i don't know how long it takes i'm assuming it's like 18 hours to fly there like kind of a pain in the ass to right go lift for three hours you know yes when you could fly two hours to whatever part of the country you need to to have a meet where you can win 20 grand or whatever right so that makes it maybe less appealing than it was previously yeah and odell manual like not to take away from him but i don't you just like we don't see things about odell manual i follow him on instagram even i still barely know like that's just it's just hard to even be a fan because like what's there to be a fan of right like one big dog's performance here and maybe some meat that i don't even know about
Starting point is 01:04:05 it sounded like he was retiring after like this this was his last 41 but he's very still very strong not far off of like all-time world record total still yeah but yuri's getting really close to a 2400 pound total it's pretty crazy and that's going that's really crazy i only like barely saw this clip from somewhere else it must have so he got his first squat attempt which was 925 then there was some i don't know if it was a second or third but i saw a video of it and he barely went down like it was looked like a really bad multi-ply squat really and because i saw a meme that someone said watched west side versus the world and like that was funny like i mean i really like that movie and everything but it was funny
Starting point is 01:04:53 and then it shows yuri doing this literally a quarter squat and something must have been wrong or something like that but it really looked like he just went out there and just quarter squatted and stood back up and was like hoping for a white light or something. Yeah. So I don't know what his deal was. But he was really aggressive. Well, I think his second attempt, if you click on Uri's name, or do you see all his attempts there?
Starting point is 01:05:16 They don't have them listed on the meat. If you click on his name, he went from 925. I'm pretty sure his second attempt was 1,000 pounds. And you can tell me if I'm wrong on that or not, but I'm pretty sure. 1,000? Yeah. Wow, I did not know that. And he tried it a third time maybe? Yeah, he tried it on second and third attempts, yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:37 But that's a huge jump. So he was going very aggressive. And then on deadlift, did he only get his opener as well? Yeah, deadlift just his opener. He started at 9 15 and then tried to go to 959 yeah so yeah i mean that's probably normal jump for someone like that i guess but did he what about on bench did he take a huge jump so bench he went 496 got that 518 got that and then tried to go 529 which those all make sense yeah that's just that squat yeah or the squat yeah the squat's the one that's really like and then tried to go 529, which those all make sense. Just squat the deadlifter. Or the squat, yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:08 The squat's the one that's really like, damn. Because he could have left 50 easy pounds on the table there or something by not taking 975. A 75-pound jump or 78-pound jump. Right. Wow. Interesting strategy there. Yeah, yeah. That's kind of Yuri's's thing a lot though is that
Starting point is 01:06:26 he only needs to go four for nine in a meet to win at big dogs in general it doesn't seem like and i think it's it obviously is part of like this real competition thing like that everyone in the meet is like real competition for you winning the money or not winning the money but don't really any i wonder has anyone ever gone nine for nine in that meet ever maybe there probably has been maybe like andre maybe andre did one i could see andre doing it yeah but i think it's very but it seems like four or five successful attempts is all the podium finishers is usually what's in there yeah that's without knowing the facts.
Starting point is 01:07:05 That's just what I think about, you know. Just purely anecdotal, as they say. Yes, very, very much. Could actually be 100% false, but that's what I think. Just the way it's going to be. Yep. Tanner, what else do we got? We're getting down there.
Starting point is 01:07:21 Should we do a little overrated, underrated action? We probably should before we send the people on their way. Yeah, before we kick them on out of here. So let's review quickly last week's overrated, underrated results from the Instagram poll. Topic number one was Denzel Washington. You said underrated. I said underrated. Came to that conclusion.
Starting point is 01:07:41 People said 74% underrated. That's pretty resounding. Yeah. Taking notes. You said underrated pretty high pretty resounding yeah taking notes you said underrated i know that for sure 63 said underrated i'm agreeing with you a little surprised by that yeah that was a pretty uh garbage disposals you said underrated i think right 71 underrated also a pretty high yeah that is percentage uh tabasco sauce, you said overrated, right? See, I can't remember. I think I said underrated, I think. Did you say underrated?
Starting point is 01:08:09 I think I did because I said ketchup and things are everywhere. Yeah, maybe that's what... But also, I don't know if... Because I was going back and forth because I said it's also the hot sauce you see everywhere. Right. I don't actually... I don't know what I said. I can't remember.
Starting point is 01:08:22 Two-thirds of the people said overrated. Okay. So you might have been in agreeance on everything. If not, you're pretty close there. Three out of four ain't bad. Oh. So this week's overrated or underrated topics are what I am looking up on my phone as I say this sentence.
Starting point is 01:08:44 Just looking. This sentence with many rambling clauses. Okay. You're familiar with the rules, I think. I have a general idea of how they work. Okay. Well, I'll spare you the nonsense of me reading these long rules.
Starting point is 01:09:00 Maybe an episode when we have a lot of time, I'm going to really give them the full read over again because it has been been a bit but i'm going to save you today for the sake of time topic number one overrated or underrated pringles pringles chip the once you pop the fun don't stop pop you don't stop i personally am not really a pringles guy. I mean, me either. If, if I, if someone was having some party and there was a can of Pringles there and I
Starting point is 01:09:31 was hungry, I'd eat them. You know, I'm not going to say I'm not going to eat Pringles, but have you bought a can of Pringles? I could not tell you the last, probably in college. It was probably the last time I bought a can of Pringles.
Starting point is 01:09:45 And even when it comes to chips, I am going to pick a lot of chips ahead of Pringles. Like a lot of chips ahead of Pringles. I'm saying Pringles are overrated. I would agree. I honestly forget they're even good. My son, Jack, likes them, so we have them around sometimes. They do. I can give him credit, though.
Starting point is 01:10:05 Their flavor is a lot wackier than yeah well and also just what they did with the packaging and everything of a potato chip they certainly found uh like a boy in the market a bag is a little too environmentally friendly we need to make this whole can tube thing instead yes uh have you ever done where you make duck bill lips with a couple pringles chips i'm familiar with the tactic classic okay as long as we're on the topic of chips now overrated or underrated card chip readers different kind of chip is it i actually had to think about it for a second card chip readers card chip readers they're in and the chips on the cards they're annoying because it takes so long you know compared to just swiping you almost can't swipe
Starting point is 01:10:50 anywhere anymore like i think there's a few gas stations occasionally yeah but i you don't swipe very often uh the worst thing about the card chip readers, and I noticed some are getting better about this, is that when you are done, just talking from like a user experience perspective, when you're done with the card chip reader, they don't go like, ding, ding, like to acknowledge that it went, it's, er, er, er.
Starting point is 01:11:17 And that is universally the sound for something is wrong, something didn't work. And that's how it tries to tell you to take your card. Right. But that is the worst noise. Well, and also when you're paying some, that gives me the feel of like, oh, does this guy have a declined credit card over here? Yeah, that's what you would associate with something being declined. They're, uh, uh, uh.
Starting point is 01:11:40 But that's how they do it. And I have noticed a few are like changing that sound. Yeah, they should change that. They should. A terrible idea to use that sound. But card chip readers, they're really annoying. I actually, you know, I'm very, very forward in my technological pursuits here, Tanner.
Starting point is 01:11:56 I've started using Apple Pay. Once you get used to using that, it's pretty slick, actually. It's much faster. You just hold your phone over, double-click the side your face boom pays instantly way faster way faster no doubt about that you don't have to wait for any card to read and then the sound like that all goes away the only thing that's annoying is some places it's not immediately obvious if they have it like a lot of the terminals are i don't even know what the brand is most places there's only a few different kinds of like payment terminals yeah but for whatever
Starting point is 01:12:30 reason some of them say some of them don't have tap as an option and i don't know if it's just they didn't pay for that option or if there's something in the software that they don't have so that's annoying because sometimes you look stupid trying to put it down and you're like i don't know if this takes it or not or if it is a terminal you're not used to you hold it over one corner it's actually the other corner and yeah that is kind of an annoying they don't have it and they're like sir yes and then there's that i don't have that here what are you doing there yeah like i've put that phone away yeah we're not the jetsons get that out of here. But I do believe that the, as maybe safer, supposedly,
Starting point is 01:13:10 I still think that the entire experience is overrated and annoying. So card readers are annoying and overrated. Okay. Overrated or underrated? We talked about it today. Deadlift bars. I don't think we've ever had this as a topic. I don't think we have.
Starting point is 01:13:23 Very well could have. You probably don't remember either so it doesn't matter well i think it is safe to say this that until you're deadlifting like maybe 600 you might not even see a performance difference it might you might it will for sure feel different i can feel a difference with the deadlift bar in my hand it's a smaller diameter for it is a smaller diameter so you can feel that when you grip it and then typically they usually have a pretty aggressive neural too right so you do feel you do feel the difference of a deadlift bar in your hands right but as far as actually expecting any type of performance benefit from it until you're someone that can start deadlifting in the 600s,
Starting point is 01:14:05 I don't know if you'll ever see that benefit. My best deadlift ever is like 545. I don't think if I did one or another on a deadlift bar, not on a deadlift bar, I don't think that number would have changed one bit. The thing that I, this is the thing that always annoys me with this stuff with powerlifting. Powerlifting is the sport to see who is the strongest.
Starting point is 01:14:31 Yeah. And then there came a point where it's like, well, okay, we've gotten as strong as we can. We think with this set of tools. So let's change those a little bit. Let's, let's make a bar that we think can give people an advantage to lift more so that the numbers are bigger. People are like, okay, cool. Yeah, we can lift more on this bar. Maybe, maybe not.
Starting point is 01:14:52 But some people seem to think they can. So, okay, so we have this bar. Okay, now, you know, people could set crazier world records if we let them have 24 hours to weigh in instead of two or four whatever the standard was that time so okay let's do 24 hours so people can go insane weight cuts and then have 24 hours to put as much weight back on so that the record is almost meaningless right okay so then we do that then it's like all right squats people can squat a lot but the hardest part of the squat now is walking it out let's invent this machine that doesn't make it so people don't have to walk out so they can squat more and
Starting point is 01:15:32 get get the part of the the lift that's the hardest out of the way so that they can get back to squatting more so like let's add that in now too and there's just all the like you know and then you can look at whether i don't know what the history of was benching is with heels on the ground versus toes on the ground. And if heads allowed and head not allowed. And if you have to wait for a start command or not wait for a start command and how, you know, there's just all these things that starts to like water down. Like, well, it wasn't the whole point of this just to see who's the strongest in the first place. Not like to see who's the strongest under XZ conditions or XYZ and another condition. And that's the most annoying part of it to me
Starting point is 01:16:09 is like it just, again, fractures all of this stuff. When does the line finally get drawn? So it's like a federation comes out with, let's say a federation comes out with 48-hour weigh-ins. You say, well, that's way too long. Or what about a bar that's one half of a millimeter thinner and six inches longer? And even whippier.
Starting point is 01:16:30 Or even, okay, like in some of those Russian federations where they use the really wide plates and some bar that, I don't know if it's just because the plates are that wide that it whips that much, but like at some of these shorter guys or Sumo- and like their range of motion once the bar is cleared the ground i don't know if the bar goes more than six inches from the ground right especially the last plates on the yeah yeah the last plates and i'm not saying no he didn't lift 900 pounds he obviously
Starting point is 01:16:58 did but it was under a very specific set of circumstances and i don't know it just kind of waters the whole thing down to me and that's where i that's where these things all annoy me but then when i look at it from well if someone's just training and they have a deadlift bar and it's a it's a different tool and it makes working out fun yeah and that's something that keeps them coming back to the gym and they have enjoy and they enjoy it and that is something that adds to their enjoyment in the gym, then I'm like, well, then it's totally underrated. That's where I'm coming at it from.
Starting point is 01:17:31 It's like just another toy to keep me coming to the gym. Yeah, right, right. And so with all of that complaining I said, I still am going to say that a deadlift bar is underrated because it's just, from my perspective,
Starting point is 01:17:42 another tool in the toolbox to make training more fun. That was a very long rant for deadlift bars. Okay, last topic on overrated, underrated. I don't know if you're going to know about this topic or not. If you don't, it'll be those episodes of television shows where you have to tune in next week to find out this will be a to be continued overrated underrated.

Starting point is 01:18:23 to be continued. Okay. That's probably, that's probably okay. Yeah, that's fine. So To Be Continued, that will be topic number one of next week. It's number four of this week and also will be topic number one of next week. Just wait, number one of Underrated, Overrated, or number one of the entire podcast?
