Starting point is 00:02:09 New lifts to be discussed. New big lifts. And this week in the world of massonomics. And new guests, maybe. A new guest. We do have a guest coming up this episode. Another blockbuster episode. Yes, another great one.
Starting point is 00:02:24 203 is going to be one for the record books i think so someone uh messaged today a dm on instagram and said i think well i don't remember the episode it was episode 193 i think is what he said he goes i think in episode 193 you two said the word boner more than you said the word seriousness in the seriousness episode and do you know what the seriousness episode is probably like 70 or 80 times yeah that was a long time ago yeah i actually forgot totally about that yeah we didn't say boner that much and i don't know what the i can't remember what we were saying boner about i'm assuming it was probably talking about the game changers that's what it was assuming it was probably talking about the game changers.
Starting point is 00:03:05 That's what it was. Yes. That's what it was. The game changers one. Yes. You know, just when I think of boners now, I think of the movie,
Starting point is 00:03:10 the game changes. It gives me a boner. Just thinking about it. I think that was his goal for the movie. Oh, really? And then another blast from the past thing today, someone sent me a DM of Trevor Bvor bata bata yep performing a lift or squat or something on instagram and
Starting point is 00:03:30 said you need to get this guy a pair of lift shorts and i said we've had that guy in the podcast before and where they did they know they did not know that yeah and i'm like wow that's a coincidence because we don't have that many in-person interviews, and he is one of them. And they asked what episode, and I was like, I do not know, somewhere between like 20 and 40. I would have said for sure under 50, but I don't know for sure. But I was like, actually, he has been on the Mastodonomics podcast. That's how you know we've been around a long time. That is.
Starting point is 00:04:02 You lose track of who's been on the show even. Well, the guy that brought up the boners versus the seriousness, and I was like, geez, the seriousness episode, I could barely remember that myself. And he's like, ha, that's what happens when you go through all 200 episodes in about six months. Well, just recently, though, I saw you pay more attention to the orders than me, Tanner, but you had a screenshot of a guy.
Starting point is 00:04:24 We saw the order come through, and the guy had mentioned that i just finished listening to all 200 episodes in what do you say like a month yeah uh yeah and this is my gift to myself is he bought like a pair of live shorts or something right and i still that still just shocks me when people say they listen to that many episodes one that people have listened to all the episodes and then if you've ever done it in like less time than actual real time yes that's so many massonomics episodes but we had a couple guys towards the end of last year that did the same thing yeah that's right just mind-blowing yeah it's crazy uh the other thing now that you bring that up that reminds me is we're from aberdeen south dakota we've sent a couple orders now to aberdeen scotland and whenever we do the aberdeen
Starting point is 00:05:02 the town we live in is we've mentioned it before it's a town of about 25 000 population we live in relatively speaking the middle of nowhere northeast south dakota you know there's not bigger we're not close to a larger city or anything like that um and i when those orders go out i send them a copy of our local uh town magazine yeah they go in there so they can get those over in aberdeen scotland so they can stay up to date yeah yeah uh but him and that last one that ordered from there i even mentioned to him because he also dm'd on instagram he had some questions about products or something and i said you know we're from aberdeen also and he goes oh yeah i know i listen to the podcast hey that's awesome yeah yeah good stuff that is impressive yeah that's what we have been around long enough now that there's like old memories of things
Starting point is 00:05:51 the podcast actually has memories like it was a child like i don't really remember everything yeah the kid remembers it also yep yep here we are uh we do have a refreshment to serve all right i hope it's refreshing is it a waterloo i don't want you to i don't want you to look though oh okay it is a can it's a can i'll tell you that much and what's in that can yeah well we're about to find out did you go through all the lime water loos yet? That's for me to know. I actually did, yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:30 Those didn't last long. I like those a lot. Jeez. I could smell that from, I had the can like not even up to my nose, and I could smell it upon opening. Very aromatic. And to be honest with you, I actually forgot what this flavor is called. I have a pretty solid guess in my head i think i know what the flavor is called i think you're gonna get this
Starting point is 00:06:51 the uh solid pop top like i mentioned before gives away the brand to me that this is a boobly spark you are correct sparkling and i just know you evolve to the point where you can sense it just by feel i know the brand of sparkling water. Oh, boy, it has a smell. It really does. What is that? It's a familiar smell to me, but it's like a smelly smell. It's one of those smells. It's not.
Starting point is 00:07:22 It's almost on the tip of my tongue, you could say. The flavor or the name of like um it's almost kind of like a this isn't my what i think but like raspberry is the only thing that i can associate it to but there's there's something different that that's not that's not it see and i'm looking because i actually forgot what the name of the flavor was called is it like the name of a fruit in the flavor? I actually technically would have got this one wrong. Like, even with you. Oh, I forgot what it was.
Starting point is 00:07:51 Like, my wife bought these, and I didn't even look at it. I knew what the flavor tasted like, but I never actually knew what the name of it was. Just go with your gut. Don't overthink it. Yeah, I guess I'll just say raspberry, but I don't think it's quite right and uh it is raspberry i thought it was straight up berry oh which is almost the same thing but right raspberry god damn you got like nice this is uh there's almost almost two weeks in a row of you guessing right this this i just straight up got it right i got it straight up exactly right i don't know if i've ever done that where it's just really actually accurate this actually might be the first one it might be actually
Starting point is 00:08:30 yeah do you like rasp rasp berries um i like the fruit a lot i like the fruit i like i enjoy the fruit more than i enjoy the fruit buble. I like raspberries pretty well. I would still pick a lime over this. Lime-flavored sparkling water. How many JD Power and Associates Awards? This one's probably a three or a three and a half for me. I'm going to give this one a 3.0 in the JD Power and Associates Awards category.
Starting point is 00:08:59 I actually did... What website was I just on the other day? In my job, I ran across an insane amount of websites. But I ran across a website and something in my brain went, wait, wait, wait, hold up. And I was already like off the page and I had to click back and go.
Starting point is 00:09:12 And I'm like, they're using JD power and associates awards as an achievement. And I can't even, no, I was looking at a Corvette. That's sort of, no, I can't.
Starting point is 00:09:22 It was like a, a thing that I don't even know that that award existed in that industry. And I don't remember what it was now. God, I wish, um, you know, the,
Starting point is 00:09:32 what, what is the, um, what is the podcast? The popular one with, um, is it how it's, is it how it,
Starting point is 00:09:40 how I built this? Yeah. That one of those with Guy Ross. There you go. What was, it was a sparkling water that they had on there that they had a discussion about natural flavors oh as to what constitutes a natural flavor right i've actually never even thought of that until right now i have to look quick of what what the name of that is you'll probably know it
Starting point is 00:10:02 let me is it monster energy um no it's a monster energy gosh what was the name of it it was like ah i can't i'm i can't see it right i can't find it right now it wasn't something i think that i've ever had before but they're obviously popular enough to have a uh how i built this yeah i think i still got it my feed maybe i'll take a look here okay i actually have not listened to that one for quite a while i hadn't either and i just was listening to it this weekend a little bit and that one stuck out to me that i that i had to had to give it a listen but they used to use natural flavors in this company that you're talking about they used to until it kind of started with some customers were asking them what
Starting point is 00:10:50 exactly what can, you know, what the exactly the natural flavors consisted of. Yeah. And they, so, and he's like, well,
Starting point is 00:10:58 honestly, I really don't know if I can answer that exactly, you know, and feel a hundred percent. Yeah. The owner of the company. So they had to go back to the lab or whatever the place that was that they were sourcing this from and they could not
Starting point is 00:11:11 right like they couldn't give them a really accurate look of what it actually consisted of so because of that i'm like really bastardizing it and doing like a really consolidated version of it. But because of those reasons, they quit using them in their products. Yeah. And he made it sound like that's kind of a common thing in the natural flavors field. Well, I have, like it's just never even crossed my brain what is a natural flavor. Yeah. Until you said that right now.
Starting point is 00:11:44 You know, it's the whole argument of what is a natural flavor yeah that right now you know it's the whole argument of what is it what even is natural like how and even if something is natural why does that also mean that it's good either right well and that's just kind of the connotation that goes with it isn't it i was going to give this one more shot at spin drift spin drift never heard of it yeah spin drift i'm out of the loop man yeah something to think about Spindrift. Never heard of it. Spindrift. I'm out of the loot, man. Something to think about. Something to haunt you at night.
Starting point is 00:12:14 I'll get those on deck so that I got those here the next time. Ah, yeah. Our Spindrift. He got me with the Spindrift. Oldest trick in the book. We spent some time this last weekend working on some stuff tanner we spent some significant time working on some massonomic stuff this last weekend we did and that was uh building because we are because we are so dedicated not only to our listeners but our uh our business patrons yes that we have uh really taken it upon ourselves to try and go the extra mile
Starting point is 00:12:46 for our booth at the arnold this year and i think that we're doing that so yeah um we we hired all of the bang girls from the from the bang energy booth actually the bank we got a discount we got i would say we got a discount on the bang guys so we hired the bang guys um we didn't have a budget to give them clothes so they'll have even less on this year than they did last year but not not even no no green and uh pink we also said we don't have music either so there's gonna have to dance to nothingness but uh they were on board with it but no we uh we spent a lot of time uh setting up and trying to perf i shouldn't say perfect. I should just say plan.
Starting point is 00:13:31 Plan and improve our booth logistics. Now that we think we kind of know how the Arnold works. At least better than we did a year ago at this point. We can at least say that we've done it once now. So we do have that knowledge to fall back on. Where last year it was just like, can we even get there? Is it even possible to get there yeah that was like goal number one to just get there yeah and now that we've proven we can do that it's what can we do to make this better and we put some serious time into it we spent about four or five hours like working on our mock um yeah just something to all take down when we're done because it's not actually the Arnold yet.
Starting point is 00:14:05 Yeah, so we got the boot. I think we got a pretty legit backdrop this year. I think the products can really shine. We still haven't got to see it in its full glory just because it was a mock-up, but it'll be like raising the victory flag, I feel like. Well, we will be literally raising the don't curl in me flag. It'll be kind of like planting that flag on the moon, ah we did it we went there and did something it is funny even from our just our mock-up version of it though and we were pulling up pictures of our booth the year
Starting point is 00:14:36 i mean we thought we when we set the booth up last year we got done that night and we and i honestly was a little like proud of it i was like we we definitely like if someone come over and said what what would you improve we could have came up with a list of 30 things we would have improved but also we had no idea what we're doing so we were like you know what it's definitely not the worst one here there's for sure a lot of booths that are worse oh no we could visit just from where we were standing we could see ones that were yeah it's like walk down any aisle yeah there's booths that are worse oh no we could visit just from where we were standing we could see ones that were yeah it's like walk down any aisle yeah there's booths that are worse there's no doubt about that but um we were like yeah this works for what we're doing and it did work we sold a
Starting point is 00:15:15 lot of stuff and it was a lot of people that had never seen us before too so it was catching people's eyes but still you we actually didn't know how we've never we've gone to the arnold three times last year i guess was our third time but the two times before that we hadn't spent a lot of time just standing in an aisle no so we didn't actually comprehend how busy those aisles actually got right and now that we understand you know like the biggest thing is you got to get product up high like it has to be up where people can see it because, and not like six feet high. It needs to be closer to that,
Starting point is 00:15:48 like seven to 10 foot area. And we're also, you know, like what? Six, one, six, three.
Starting point is 00:15:54 Yeah. That's what, and it's a 10 foot, it's a 10 foot booth. If you just assume we're two feet wide each. Okay. We just covered half of the space of the booth and then the height, we covered it all too.
Starting point is 00:16:04 So, yeah. And that's kind of last year. We didn't have things high enough where it's funny when you and and also we kind of shrunk the booth in on us the width wise the with the way our setup was so when you look at pictures of you and i standing there which you and i were basically standing there the entire weekend that's what people would have seen the only shirts you really see are the ones that you and i are wearing yeah and the rest of them it's kind of like oh could you guys get the fuck out of the way so i can see what you got back there yep you know and i i do think we have that corrected and
Starting point is 00:16:34 we did it in a way that's actually going to be a smoother setup and dismantle yeah it should make it one easier for us to get product to people because last year it wasn't i mean it wasn't like we were like oh hold on i gotta run to the back room it wasn't like that but it was like when when shit started to get crazy it was kind of a little stressful yeah running around trying to find the these just massive mountains of t-shirts what the right item was in the right size we're much more organized yeah much more organized and i think we've kind of streamlined the entire process as much as you can on a 10 foot by 10 square yeah you know that's almost the size like you just it's so hard to comprehend what a 10 foot by 10 foot is the best thing for me to think about is like most powerlifting platforms are like eight
Starting point is 00:17:20 by eight right so this is just like we got to fit like several like well over a thousand t-shirts in a spot that's just slightly bigger than a powerlifting platform and also display everything and be able to move around and like hold some of our shit yeah and be able to walk around in it and that's the challenge with it yes and i think we definitely got it better than last year oh it's much better i would as of right now it goes so far as to say like we might be like in the top percentile of performers yeah we did here we're at least um last year we were we weren't in the gutter we weren't one of the cellar dwellers we were more in the probably in that bottom to middle right that's what i feel
Starting point is 00:18:03 like middle to middle yeah middle to middle bottom and now i feel like we're more in the probably in that bottom to middle right that's what i feel like middle to middle yeah middle to middle bottom and now i feel like we're more in the above average to middle top at least a shirt vendor in a 10 by 10 that's kind of the caveat to that too is people that when you have bigger space you can do just do more with it you guys just have options like so many problems just disappear because the 10 by 10 really limits you but you know what is limiting about the 20 foot spaces that they cost five five to six thousand dollars the cost is very limited yep and that's where you're like with this thing the arnold this is kind of getting to the business side of things, but it costs a lot of money to go there. I mean, for us just to show up, we're thousands of dollars in. Yes.
Starting point is 00:18:49 And we were cheap people, you know, we were just talking about that comparing to, you know, other companies that we talked to in the business. And we, we do it for less than what a lot of them do. I think I would also argue we do it for less than almost anyone does.
Starting point is 00:19:01 Yeah. For anyone that travels our distance. I don't know who was doing it for us than us that travels like that drives 1800 miles yeah i don't know who else does it and we've talked to a lot of you know other companies that are in in the same space as us selling shirts in the you know lifting world and it's the same for you know it's kind it's kind of this thing where it's like man like the people getting into it for the first year they start asking questions and it's like just how we were last year you know there's been some people asking us questions about advice too and it's like as you start adding the stuff up it's like
Starting point is 00:19:33 really and and people want to know it's like did you make any money like that's the thing once you figure it out it's like you start to ask how did you make any money? Yes, and that is the thing, because the Arnold is a significant investment for us to have. And then just how far away it is, we do have to take a week off of work. Yeah, and we're basically not even factoring in all those things at the cost. We have to just close our eyes on those things. Yes, and so we have to be very prepared. And we do have, like, this is a big investment, so we do have to, it is in our we have to be very prepared and we do have like this is a big
Starting point is 00:20:05 investment so we do have to it is in our best interest to be over prepared and to try and think out everything we can and that's what we're doing this year and uh ideally if we put on a good booth and we invest in a good booth experience to where people can see more and see our stuff uh ideally we should be rewarded for that and i think we're setting ourselves up to be i think so too i mean we could just it could just totally blow up on ourselves and people like i know i'm over this but i don't think that's the case yet no i think i mean i mean it would be it would be really weird if we didn't sell more dollar dollar wise than we did last year that i mean all we gotta do is sell that second pair of lift shorts right still waiting for that and we are bringing a pair so a pair so if you're the person the one person to hire a full-time guard team around the clock for speaking of that though we did come out with a more economical
Starting point is 00:20:56 option yes for those that cannot afford the lift shorts that you've been saving begging borrowing stealing doing everything you can to get a pair of lift shorts and haven't figured out the way to do it yet, we solved the problem for you. The Lift Shorts Sticker Pack. $4.99 for three die-cut premium stickers. These aren't your grandmother's scratch-and-sniff stickers. Although now that I think about it, I wish they were scratch-and-sniff. Yeah, that would be pretty cool.
Starting point is 00:21:24 You get that used gym short smell. of actually kind of reminds me of the business lesson um i forget how it goes but it they always talk about like uh when steve jobs with the iphone they said like you know if if steve jobs would have asked people what they wanted with the iphone they would have just wanted a phone with a bigger with a bigger keyboard on it or something but no they didn't know what they were yeah he gave him the iphone and you know if we would have listened we would have just made cheaper lift shorts but people don't want people actually don't want cheaper lift shorts they want a more affordable they want a more expensive sticker is what they wanted so we made the they want a sticker that is expensive as far as stickers are concerned but cheap as far as the shorts are
Starting point is 00:22:01 cheap in comparison to shorts, expensive as far. They want a more premium sticker experience. And so that's what we gave them. Not what they thought they wanted, but what they actually wanted. That is a very good comparison. We really do know best in this situation. So yeah, the Lyft sticker three-pack is live online. It is an ultra-premium sticker. It is our most premium sticker to date. All joking aside. It is an ultra premium sticker.
Starting point is 00:22:25 It is our most premium sticker to date. All joking aside is a really nice. Like when we got a hands, I was like, Oh damn, this is really nice. And in case you haven't seen it yet, it is actually a picture.
Starting point is 00:22:35 It's just a picture of lift shorts. It is actually our actual product photo of lift shorts. So I'm excited to start seeing just lift shorts popping up in places to me i love the sticker like it just like brings a smile to my face when i see them and now that i've started to see people some people stick them places it's just a sign of corporate excess it's so stupid there but there was there was a lot of comments along those lines like you guys really did that like oh my god like that but yet those people kind of want it you know at the same time lots of people do want it so if you're at the arnold that's going to be a really great chance for you to get your hands on some of those in our in our fancy booth yeah yes a very fancy booth we also
Starting point is 00:23:23 i guess we can mention this we're not going tell you, there's a secret surprise shirt coming out at the Arnold that you can't know about yet. A brand new one. Same thing we always say, if you like what we've done before, you're probably going to like this one. I do think this one's really cool, though, too. I think it's got a really cool look to it. I think it's going to be a popular shirt for us. I think so. I think so.
Starting point is 00:23:43 But we do have, at the Arnold, we're going to have drawstring bags available too. So you can hold all that gear that you're running around with. Yes. Maybe it could be the world's most expensive draw bag, even now that I think about it. Cinch bag. Well, it wouldn't be us if we didn't do it that way.
Starting point is 00:24:00 Yeah. So we got all types of goodies planned. Then there'll be more announcements on the way. Some special limited edition Arnold-only hats too. Yeah, so we got all types of goodies planned. Then there'll be more announcements on the way. Some special limited edition Arnold-only hats, too. Yeah. Yeah, lots of good stuff. I forgot about all that.
Starting point is 00:24:14 Just have to figure out how to get it all there. We've got the stuff. That's always the bugaboo. We've been packing it away, and I've been wrapping it up to, like, cocaine-esque blocks of bricks of shirts. Tanner has actually been in the name of packing as efficiently as possible because space is at an absolute premium. Tanner has been cellophane wrapping bricks of T-shirts. And the other day we were building the booth,
Starting point is 00:24:38 and I was just stacking bricks of bench shirts. I'm like, I feel like I'm moving drugs right now. Might as well be. Might as well be, yeah. And boy and boy did it feel good it does uh also speaking of the arnold thor is prepping for that yes and as part of his prep he had a pretty uh pretty gnarly deadlift session yeah it was gnar gnar for sure he did 1058 for a single which well and then didn't the week before that did he do like 1025 for a double I think 1005 for a double maybe a week or two before
Starting point is 00:25:12 yeah someone made the comment that maybe that 1050 this can't be right this can't be right but I saw someone make the comment that is that the heaviest maybe it's right is that the heaviest deadlift anyone's ever done not in a deadlift suit did he actually not have one on or was it one of those things where he wears one underneath you can't wear one at the arnold so i don't he wouldn't be wearing it yeah anyone makes sense at this point no he wouldn't yeah that's a good question apparently above his elephant bar world record yeah because isn't that like 10 49 or something like that yeah and effort that seemed at just on the surface when i first saw that i was like no that can't
Starting point is 00:25:56 be right and i'm like i think that probably is right i can't i mean what deadlifts do you know that are over 10 58? Eddie Hall. Exactly. Yeah. I don't know. Right. That might be. And like, even in training wise and you know,
Starting point is 00:26:12 what's that guy from, um, Russia or wherever he was, he tried to get the 1100. Yeah. But that was always in a suit. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:26:20 So if he did something, I think he maybe did something heavier than 10 58 at some point in time, but I'm sure it was in a suit. Interesting. Yeah. It didn't really, I didn he maybe did something heavier than 1058 at some point in time, but I'm sure it was in a suit. Interesting. Yeah, I didn't really think about that one. But that would make sense. He is definitely getting his Arnold. He's on his Arnold prep for sure.
Starting point is 00:26:36 Yeah. Oh, and that 10, was it 1058 or 1059? I don't remember now. Okay. Well, either way, it didn't look hard. No, it didn't look like, it wasn't like, let me just back this up. It wasn't easy, but it also wasn't like, well, that's where the limit is. Like you also want to think at that level, does 40 pounds, is that really that much?
Starting point is 00:26:57 You know, on a percentage basis, it's not. On a percentage basis, it's a, what is that? That's like 4 four percent or something 10 10 is 100 5 is 50 yeah about about actually not even four percent yeah yeah less than four percent yeah which is i mean it still is 40 pounds you don't often see people do a pr and like in your mind you always think ah you can get that 20 more pounds. That's what I always say. Like I'm like,
Starting point is 00:27:27 ah, 40 more is there for sure. You know, sometimes as the person watching you think that, and you'll even say it, but to the person doing it, usually it's, I will die.
Starting point is 00:27:36 Yeah. That will be the end of me. Like, no, I mean, thanks for saying that, but no, that's not the case.
Starting point is 00:27:41 It's, that was pretty much all I had. I'm spent. That's it. Yes it yes so yeah it'll be i i wouldn't be surprised if uh new world if a new world record falls it's will that 1100 fall that's kind of the uh that's the one that is that's the uh that's the unicorn it's the unicorn. It's the gold standard. Yep. Someone can get that. Yeah. It's the Norwall. Other big lifts. I forgot her name. Do you remember her name?
Starting point is 00:28:13 I do not. I know what the lift was. It was a bench press. My autocorrect is totally wrong. Here, I got it right here actually i think it's well i think it's malia okay i don't know how i'm definitely saying her name wrong probably i'll just say malia reeves okay she's the high school girl i think out of texas that can bench just like a monster amount she now benched 375 pounds at 16 years old that is crazy that is really crazy
Starting point is 00:28:50 that is really crazy i don't i wonder i actually have never thought of this i wonder if she has a total does she just bench or does she have a total i think she has i think she lifts full power too yeah you gotta figure totals gotta be up there too yeah uh and i saw someone somewhere someone reposted i don't know if it was actually lifting a counter it might have been like barstool sports or something like that and they said breaking her own uh state record and i'm like breaking your own state record yeah but like also the also like also like the yeah the national record of like all women and all you know i mean like there's probably not that many women raw of any just it just was laughable to me that state record
Starting point is 00:29:32 i'm like yeah that was like we're out there lifting state records yeah that's not that was the the noteworthy achievement was the state record but i think it was kind of an account that maybe isn't as privy to like that probably sounded good you would assume you assume all right tanner we're getting close to uh to uh break time here but okay one thing we did have to mention before we get on to the rest of the show is the not my lift shorts ah yes it's taking the instagram world yeah we haven't talked much about this uh uh to each other yet so i'm not even completely in the know as to everything that's happening with it but uh basically so for anyone
Starting point is 00:30:11 that doesn't know uh there is a phenomenon well yeah everyone knows the ads you get on instagram and if you're a fan of us you probably get subjected to some type of ad regarding fitness or athletic wear probably somewhat regularly yeah that wouldn't be that much of a surprise there's a lot of companies out there that uh market pretty heavily on instagram and uh they sell their their workout shorts and there there's a variety of them but with that uh our our fans have taken have taken uh things into their own hands here yeah that's what i would say it's basically left our hands at this point this had literally nothing to do with us i think someone did it commented something they didn't comment not hashtag not my lift shorts i started adding
Starting point is 00:30:58 that in but someone was someone said these aren't lift shorts these aren't lift shorts yeah that was the original comment so it'd be like an ad a picture of like a pair of shorts yeah usually it says something along the lines of the last shorts you'll ever need are the best shorts you'll ever wear it's funny they all use that same shit the perfect workout yeah they all you have like a similar version of that same message but all the same thing like all like there's like five six companies that all have that same message out there yeah and someone a couple people i think started saying these aren't at massonomics lift shorts and i was like ha yeah they're not so we started reposting yeah reparting reposting it with hashtag out my lift shorts and people obviously started seeing that in their story and i've taken
Starting point is 00:31:37 to like like some one of these uh a few of them i i i clicked on it today because someone else commented on it you know and i go to take my screenshot so I can share it in the story. And I scrolled down a little bit and I was like, damn, like the top 10 comments that show up to me are people saying these are not my lip shorts. And I was like, I wonder if any of these companies have picked up on it yet. They're like, hey, who are these guys? Who are these guys spamming our account? What are these Russian bots our account what are these russian bots tagging us for what are what the hell are masonomics lift shorts yeah nothing about that
Starting point is 00:32:12 saying makes any sense yeah yeah lift shorts really funny though like i it's it has kind of taken a life of its own though like i wouldn't say we we really we really didn't nurture encourage that one too much ourselves it just kind of uh grew out of the massonomics culture on its own. Yeah, which I love to see that. Yeah. That always makes me feel good. It is to the point now where I can't even get them all shared on Instagram because there are so many that I've...
Starting point is 00:32:39 I do like it when I see it's a new shorts post because I've seen so many of these now. You're very privy to the ad format. I've seen so many. When I see a new one, it's like, ah, good find there. So if we didn't catch you the first time, that means you're just going to have to keep doing it. Eventually, you will be at the top of the list
Starting point is 00:32:56 when Tanner gets his notifications, and he will have no choice but to repost it. Yes. It's funny how they all have the how they all have like the world's best training shorts yeah there's uh there's uh you just look at like advertising sales copy and it's like they're always following the the generic formula right i mean most things actually when you look at it do follow the same formula it's just on a different scale but yeah that's the real best brands though get like a grassroots uh joke started
Starting point is 00:33:25 behind their shorts they understand the currency of memes they know like well yeah money is valuable sure but can you really put a price on having memes in your favor exactly it's working for us because you can't no it's priceless but something that's not priceless are sponsorships oh oh better oh oh oh too fast oh there we go okay there we go today's episode of the massonomics podcast is brought to you by the hybrid performance method if you've been training without a coach and have been looking for a competitive edge remember to check out hybridperformancemethod.com. Starting point is 00:36:39 Did have a listener just today ask if we have a Spud Inc. discount code, which we don't, but because they were going to be buying the spud ink dip belt ah so very relevant yeah today's sponsorship now should we give our uh friend michael a call i don't see why not well we'll try it hopefully we don't want to just sit here and talk to each other all night i mean we've done a couple hundred times but now we don't want to do it tonight. It's like being a dead horse after a while. All right, I'm ready. Age, sex, location, please.
Starting point is 00:37:13 Age, 33, just turned it. Hey, me too. Sex, male. Location, currently a dark road in Tallahassee, Florida. I do most of my speaking at night. Poorly lit places. We like where this is headed. Yep. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:29 What month did you turn of 33? January. What day? 18. Ah, you are six days older than me, Michael. Yeah, suck it. I thought you seemed old. I'm so mature.
Starting point is 00:37:46 Could you introduce yourself? If you didn't know already, we did call you because you're on the Massanomics podcast. Could you let our listeners know your elevator speech about who you are here quickly? Yeah, Michael Fahey. I make documentaries and such, occasionally produce some sports television. I make documentaries and such, occasionally produce some sports television. You probably know me from the, we're going to go ahead and call it a hit documentary, West Side vs. the World, available now on Netflix, iTunes, Amazon, those kind of places.
Starting point is 00:38:21 Vimeo, if you're one of those Massanomics listeners from faraway lands. And there's a lot of them. It also plays 24-7 in the massonomics gym right now it has been the movie of the month for the past two months i think yep there we go let's make it three you're on a hot street yeah you're on a hot street it literally has not that that is a fact uh i think i put that on instagram you've probably seen it it rolls continuously the tv does not actually get shut off at all. If it does, people get a strong reprimand for shutting the television off.
Starting point is 00:38:50 It stays on 24 seven with West side versus the world on repeat. And it just loops. It does. All right. I'm claiming all those PRS. All about setting the mood. Yeah. So what'd y'all want?
Starting point is 00:39:04 Well, we just wanted to catch up it's been a while that was it actually uh thank you for coming on we appreciate it uh we're gonna ask you a couple of uh questions that are kind of a la our style here we're gonna have you play our a special overrated underrated uh michael fahey version but first we got just had a couple important general questions you talked about west Side versus the world. That's, of course, something we wanted to talk about quick. And you did say hit success, which to us it sure seems like it as far as lifting documentaries go.
Starting point is 00:39:37 I don't think in our sphere there's anyone that you could bring it up and have them not know what it is, if not probably have seen it. But how do you think success-wise at this stage? I'm not sure how long it's been out. I'm sure you do. Where's the success at from what you expected? Has it exceeded expectations? What would you say?
Starting point is 00:39:57 It's weird because, number one, I'm in Tallahassee, Florida, and there's not a real big sort of powerlifting scene down here, at least not on my kind of side of town. No one at Publix, our superior grocer, no one there has stopped me yet to say like, you know, West Side vs. the World, because I wear my hoodie all the time. It's 77 degrees. I wore my hoodie today just in case. Yeah. So I don't, I don't, you know, if I go to like Columbus or something, people will say something. Um, but if I'm away from like the world of powerlifting, from like the world of powerlifting, um, it's, it's hard to judge how far it's like permeated that world. Right. Um, but like, and I've been a part of movies before, um, that have been like more successful. So I should kind of like know how this works But I don't But like it Basically every time it kind of turned a corner
Starting point is 00:41:10 You know like we We dropped the trailer And then you know literally like the next day It had hundreds of thousands of views And we happened to do it right before the Arnold And I like went to the Arnold And I'm walking around the expo and I could hear people everywhere talking about it. And I thought like,
Starting point is 00:41:32 Oh my God, this might be like this huge, this just super huge mainstream thing. And, uh, it was just everywhere. And then as is the internet now, suddenly it was just kind of gone.
Starting point is 00:41:46 And then it would come out, you know, and then like the Kickstarter happens. It was like, boom, for like two days, like we were the number one project, like number one film project in the world. And then, boom, done. That attention span kicks in. Yeah. Yeah. So it's, I thought it would be kind of a smoother uh more a little more steady thing i didn't think that it would the highs like on the days where traffic or attention have spiked
Starting point is 00:42:15 they've spiked so much higher than anything else i've been a part of but they've also fallen so quickly so i guess that's just how it makes its way like through the power lifting world is it just like infects everyone immediately and then it's gone like the flu yeah until there's some new reason for people to look at it all in all it's been it's been cool it's it's done more than i mean i've had i've had a number of people tell me like you know we didn't think it would do that so um do you think i kind of thought it would do roughly what it's done but i'm usually a little optimistic and delusional in my uh projections so it doesn't make it uh you know so the highs are pretty high and maybe the lows are a little bit lower but like does it put you on like personally like an emotional roller coaster at all where you're like oh yeah this is freaking awesome and maybe the lows are a little bit lower, but like, does it put you on like personally, like an emotional rollercoaster at all where you're like,
Starting point is 00:43:06 Oh yeah, this is fricking awesome. And then the next day you're like, Oh damn it. What, you know, like, do you take it?
Starting point is 00:43:12 Like, does it go to a personal level on that sort of thing? Um, not really. Um, everyone around me gets really excited and I, like, I like rain on my own parade and I'm like yeah but y'all don't
Starting point is 00:43:27 realize like this only means something if it continues for at least three more days and i can already tell you it's not um so then like you know uh when we debuted on netflix we debuted number five overall in the u.s Wow. That's pretty good though. Right. Yeah. It was crazy. We were, we were ahead of like Netflix originals. You don't even talk about like murder documentaries. It's not, you know, it's a lifting documentary. Yeah. Um, and we were not a, you know, well, I mean, there's some, I, we could have gone more that way, but, um,
Starting point is 00:44:08 some stories are better left untold. Right. What even is the process of getting on? Like, was that part of the plan always to get on Netflix? Uh, yeah, it's always, it's always part of the plan. Um, and, but there's so many steps before then you can get on Netflix, basically like one of kind of two ways you can get on as a Netflix original. We're basically like Netflix cuts you a really big check and you never sell it anywhere else,
Starting point is 00:44:36 but you just get like, you know, every three months or so you get nice money. And there it's obviously no surprise because they're funding the thing that it's on Netflixflix but that wasn't the case for you guys so how does it happen for you guys then yeah well even beyond that you know most of the time netflix doesn't actually fund those things it's people make them yeah netflix just buys like the exclusive rights to distribute it in perpetuity so it's just like you make it and then they buy it and they're like that's mine now yeah um but for the the majority of us uh film peasants um you do basically what we did you you start off um trying to get some attention uh i do I do everything kind of backwards. So like we built up this big media or social media presence and stuff over a period of years as people complained that it
Starting point is 00:45:33 wasn't out. And then, you know, then finally, and we had a lot of other stuff, lawsuits and whatnot. Um, the usual, all good things you want to do on your movie, right? Yeah. Yeah. You'd like to, you like to be, you know, surprised with like, who's a felon. Um, um, when that'll be a doc, um, but so we, we, you know, we built the social media presence first sort of by accident. Um, and then when it was finally ready and we finally got a distributor and stuff, then they,
Starting point is 00:46:16 you know, they help us put it on iTunes and Amazon and all these, you know, it, it's on like 140 different platforms around the world i don't know i have no uh sort of place in that i filled out a bunch of legal forms and whatnot and uh made sure that everyone was credited correctly and then i just kind of turn over a stack of stuff to our distributor okay so it is really one of those things where it's like the distributor just kind of does the work and they just, you give it your blessing and it goes.
Starting point is 00:46:52 Uh, yeah, pretty much. So then like, you know, then you are just trying to get high in the charts. And again, like we went up for pre-order and within a day or two, we were the number one documentary, I think, pre-order on iTunes. Then we finally released on iTunes, and again, for like a week, we were the number two documentary, because fucking Peter Jackson released his World War One documentary one week early. And that had a budget of over $100 million in just marketing alone. Well, what was your budget? Like $98 million?
Starting point is 00:47:36 Yeah. We moneyballed it. That extra $2 million screwed us. That's what it always comes down to. Yeah. that extra 2 million screw us um that's what it always comes down to yeah but so for you know for about a week or so basically we were you know really high in the charts and then the new stuff comes in the following week and you slip a little but we stayed high enough long enough that we ended up on netflix's radar gotcha and uh pretty much the earliest you can get to netflix um if you weren't an exclusive
Starting point is 00:48:07 and you go through the process of like itunes and amazon and stuff generally speaking the earliest you can get on is about 90 days after your release um we were thinking it'll probably be like 120 or 150 just because they do it's a quarterly kind of thing and instead we got on 92 days after and no one ever emailed me or told me i just woke up and i had a bunch of mixed missed calls and texts from people in australia because they got and then yeah they had it yeah um and then yeah so that was the other thing was like i didn't even know that it was coming out and it wasn't even on netflix's main menu so when people finally did see it on netflix they had to actually like search it explicitly by name yeah so we could have been much higher but netflix
Starting point is 00:48:59 didn't know they didn't know what they're dealing with. People need their Louie Simmons. Louie Simmons content. People can't get enough of it. I think there's probably at least in our world for sure there's some truth to that I think for sure. So then did it make you filthy rich? The movie?
Starting point is 00:49:21 No, it's a documentary. It's a documentary. And I went through a lawsuit and stuff. So like, no documentaries. If, if you've ever seen like the HBO series entourage. Yes.
Starting point is 00:49:40 Yeah. Like, you know, lavish lifestyles, jet setting. That's basically what you're like yeah weren't they a documentary film crew isn't that what they did yeah well yeah what i was gonna say is none of them made documentaries so um the most you know the the absolute you know icons and the
Starting point is 00:50:00 epitome of financial success in my like subset of media is a guy who's renowned for wearing like 80s you know mom jeans and a flannel shirt and a trucker hat like michael moore yeah so like that's the height of it so like yeah no i generally wear like free shirts and, you know, from gyms and stuff. And, um, I have a really rad, you're not dressing apart. That's the problem. Yeah. Like my, my actual vehicle that is like under my name is, uh, actually the car that in the movie it's represented as Greg Panora's car. I'm not joking. That's not joke that's that's my actual vehicle so uh i'm gonna have to well it's like a famous when i'm at the gym tomorrow
Starting point is 00:50:52 yeah peek behind the curtain uh and just think if greg had actually lived in a car like that uh he he would have had even more world records because that car's a piece of shit yeah yeah that's how the sausage is made all right that's awesome um i i have a couple other questions but we we do need to get to our overrated underrated segment did want to mention throw one one other thing out there quick a little bit off topic is you also worked on forks and knives forks over knives forks over knives yes and uh i i told you this and you probably remember this you were doing a little instagram live and i mentioned oh yeah this is a true i watched
Starting point is 00:51:40 tanner i watched that episode that y'all put out afterwards because I'm actually a listener. When we reviewed, we were just talking about episode 193. Game Changers. Game Changers, yes. Okay. So, but my doctor at the time, I went in for a physical and he had told me referred me to the movie Forks Over Knives and he said you can check it out on Netflix and next time I hadn't been back to him but I was going to tell him uh listen here fucker I know one of the main guys behind that movie so kind of a
Starting point is 00:52:21 big deal yeah pretty much that was just going to be my name drop of michael fahey yeah that'll also get you discounts at like costco good uh insider tip it's good to know those that sort of thing all right sorry you you say you're a listener um if that's true then i would assume you're a little bit familiar with the rules of overrated underrated yeah tomm Tommy has his druthers. Okay, you are familiar. Now, I've got some very, like, my, I'm an opinionated person. All right, well.
Starting point is 00:52:55 And I'm weird as hell, too, so. Well, we have got the segment for you. And today, it's not Tommy that has his druthers. It's actually you, Michael, that has your druthers it's actually you michael that yeah you have your brothers today i'm always druthered and we do cater these a little bit to you you'll probably notice as we go through the topic so okay you'll like that uh but then that means you understand it's not necessarily is it the question isn't is the topic good or bad it's is it overrated or underrated but you understand
Starting point is 00:53:25 that so oh very familiar okay so topic i'm a fan of this general idea but okay uh topic number one overrated or underrated netflix um Um, I'm going to say underrated from a standpoint of when you think about how much just time and life it sucks out of people, they're paying very little money for it. That's a good point. And it's, it's ubiquitous. It's everywhere. It very much is. And they get to fund your lavish lifestyle right
Starting point is 00:54:06 oh yeah you have to say that or else they'll pull the dot under contract you're required to say that my contracts with my payments from Netflix often include a comma so often
Starting point is 00:54:21 that's money right there yeah that is you can spend it and everything okay netflix is underrated topic number two overrated or underrated deadlift suits um i'm gonna say this might be surprising for me. I'm going to say overrated. Might be surprising for me. So what's the logic? What's the logic?
Starting point is 00:55:00 A deadlift suit isn't going to cover up if you have a bad deadlift. A deadlift suit isn't going to cover up if you have a bad deadlift. And of all the gear and accoutrement, it's the least carryover by far. So you get a bench shirt, you get a squat suit. Those are both doing big things on your total. Deadlift suit, it's not pulling its weight really that's right which is ironic you know what's funny that is the extreme irony on the deadlift suit you know it's funny about this michaels before we did the podcast we uh discussed what questions we wanted
Starting point is 00:55:35 to ask you this question we discussed it and said those exact reasons and said he'll probably say that yeah and you said we actually picked that you would say over it yes you said the exact thing that we thought you would say on that one so we know you like we know you better than you know you yeah we've seen our fair fair share of uh michael fahey documentary so we kind of know what makes you know what's going on up there yeah overrated or underrated kickstarter oh definitely. Oh, definitely overrated. Really? Definitely overrated. Um, Kickstarter is no fun.
Starting point is 00:56:12 Um, if you do not have to use it, don't, uh, and they give you as a creator, like very little and by very little, I mean, pretty much no support. and by very little I mean pretty much no support so never ship posters deliver everything digital don't get involved with any felons or soon to be felons people existing under someone else's identity
Starting point is 00:56:42 anything like that but yeah I have no plans to go back to a Kickstarter existing under someone else's identity anything like that um but uh yeah i have no plans to go back to a kickstarter ever again okay um it was really cool kickstarter is one really valuable thing um it is not it's not a good fundraising mechanism um because everything ends up costing way more than it's supposed to, but it is a pretty good, um, or it can be a pretty good advertising and marketing mechanism. But, uh, so yeah, it's definitely overrated. So just out of curiosity, like if you had to do, let's say you decide you're going to do another documentary like tomorrow and you need to, you need to to do some fundraising, do you have something in mind that you would do that would be better?
Starting point is 00:57:32 Or is that just like an imperfect? It's an imperfect thing. I mean, of the crowd financing, the crowdsourcing platforms, if you're trying to do something like a documentary where you need a lot of money, it is the best one. Um, but, uh, just in general, that kind of crowdsourcing, um, it becomes its own like full-time job and it never, of everyone I've ever talked to who's done one no one has like a good story of like you know hey yeah it went smoothly I fulfilled everything easy and on time well it was great did you ask Peter Jackson how he did his yeah well he got his uh by waiting a
Starting point is 00:58:22 hundred years and then doing a documentary on World War I after he had made a successful series and then just telling the governments of the United Kingdom and New Zealand to each kick in like 50 mil or something. So that's the secret. He took the easy road. Yeah. The easiest way is have a good business plan and find people with money. Yeah. That makes sense. And, uh, you know, like get another job and spend all of your money. Cause that's what you're going to end up doing anyways. If you spend your money, like maybe your mom yells at you, maybe your
Starting point is 00:59:02 girlfriend yells at you. Um, but you're going gonna end up spending your money so just spend all your money just get that out of the way right away from the beginning yeah less heartache at the end then you can get to spending other people's money maybe yeah yeah that's and and uh that yeah people don't realize how much of their money actually just went to like the kickstarter corporation and that you like no one understands how small the pizza is by the time you get it payments work and all that yeah i guess yeah based on your answer tommy and i are going to have to figure out a new plan for funding the lift shorts 3.0 that we were planning on bringing out actually just our whole massomics business plan is gonna have to change now well i think y'all are in luck because i heard i'm not entirely sure if this is right my dad just told it to me um but i heard that michael milken just got pardoned
Starting point is 00:59:58 who's one of the the all-time great financial criminals oh okay, okay. So he's a free agent now. So maybe we should call him next week. Yeah, he can connect you with the right account routing numbers. Yeah, he's a top-notch swindler. All right, we'll put him on the list then. Okay, so Michael, your last overrated or underrated topic this week the Oscars the Oscars
Starting point is 01:00:31 I'm going to go overrated um because you weren't nominated this year this year 2011 or 2012 whatever um no I'm going to go overrated because uh i like i know people
Starting point is 01:00:48 who vote on the oscars and stuff no one's watching all the movies yeah they're just they're just marking down whatever you know they're familiar with for the most part and it's uh it's extremely political yeah um did you watch watch the Oscars this year? I watched... I think I did watch it. It's also just like it's kind of a boring show. To me... Okay, I've... Maybe I just haven't paid enough attention in years past,
Starting point is 01:01:16 but in my opinion, it felt like there was 10 movies that had the potential to win awards this year. It seemed like every category was the same six movies or whatever that is. Well, here's, I felt like the exact opposite way. Really? And every, like every year, basically,
Starting point is 01:01:34 I'll usually write down, you know, when I lived in LA and all my friends were in the film industry and stuff, you know, most of them, like myself, of lesser or middling success. Every year when we would watch, we would bet money and you'd put in all your picks and then we'd grade and see who did what at the end. And this year, I just did it against me, just out of a habit thing. But the only movie, the only award that I did not correctly guess was Best Picture. And now normally I might miss like four or five.
Starting point is 01:02:22 And so it was just like right up until literally the very last one i was like this has been so predictable and you know even down to like what my category would be american factory like the best doc which was produced by the obamas um and netflix yeah it was the netflix original produced by the obamas um thanks obama yeah um and oddly enough it was another movie that was against us and the cleveland international film festival we were actually up like in an award category against six films okay and we were up against laura dern who won an oscar and american factory which won an oscar um so i don't know what that means but it means you need to win an oscar if you want to compete i think yeah yeah um i i think it means i'm owed one but
Starting point is 01:03:22 that's right it uh um or at least like they could fly me out or just nominate me. So were you, were you a fan of parasite? I haven't seen parasite. That's the other thing is I haven't seen parasite. I haven't either. I've heard great things. Yeah, I have as well.
Starting point is 01:03:39 But, uh, yeah, I can tell you from like the documentary category, like I don't think that that documentary would win if people watched all the documentaries, even just the ones that are nominated. And I felt like even in the acceptance speech, like they're kind of like winking and nodding to the fact that like, yeah, y'all just voted for us because of Barack. Like, we get it. You know, like you've, you've heard about us. We came up on the main menu on Netflix. You didn't watch, but you scrolled past enough times to know like, Oh yeah, that's supposed to be good. Yeah. The algorithm is very high on that one. Yeah. But yeah, I mean, it's just like the Grammys or any other kind of,
Starting point is 01:04:27 you know, large body like that, where it's like, it's mostly really old white people who are voting on a bunch of stuff. That's not made for them. They haven't seen, uh, and they don't get,
Starting point is 01:04:41 and it's just, yeah. And it's, you know, it's, it's whatever. If they invite me,, and it's just, yeah. And it's, you know, it's whatever, if they invite me, I'll go. Um, if they want to give me something, I'll take it. And like, it doesn't even have to be an award, you know? Uh, could you thank us if you ever receive an award?
Starting point is 01:04:56 Definitely. It'll be like you Instagram and shout out. Yeah. It'll be me holding it up, and then just the first paragraph will just be massonomics. All massonomics related. Okay, so you did say overrated. Congratulations. You utilized your druthers very well in today's overrated, underrated. So well, in fact, that you will be awarded uh one jd power and associates
Starting point is 01:05:25 award so you did win something this year oh they give those things out like candy though we don't necessarily like this is a massonomics jd power we're just we're one of these associates just just one of the associates there's there's thousands by last count have y'all looked up like who the associates are and we've talked about it we've talked about it that kind of like brought it up the last time that kind of ruins the mystery you know you peel back the curtain too much and you know you never want to meet your heroes we're in a really good place with it right now we don't want to know any more than we know just enough to know that there's Just enough to be dangerous. There's Mr. JD and his associates. What if they're all just strip clubs?
Starting point is 01:06:09 And Chevy? Just strip clubs and Chevy. It's all it consists of. It's all Chevys. I kind of actually like how that sounds. It's just strip clubs and Chevy. That's a great award category. I like the idea that that's where they're deciding all of these.
Starting point is 01:06:23 In the strip clubs. There it is. Yeah. With all the Chevy CEO, CFO operation. Yeah. The strippers at that point are more like an annoyance and the lighting isn't good for it either.
Starting point is 01:06:35 You know, they're trying to fill out a lot of paperwork. Well, no, they don't just, I mean, there's, there's a lot of paperwork.
Starting point is 01:06:43 It's definitely paper. Like there's no electronic. It's all paper. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I, I mean, there's a lot of paperwork involved in the J.D. Power. Oh, it's definitely paper. Like, there's no electronic. It's all paper. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I also just, that award is like a block with, like, a weird caliper thing on it, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:56 Yes. Do we know what's going on? What are they measuring? Success, I think. Yes. That is right. Actual success is being measured. It's really measurable.
Starting point is 01:07:14 All right. Now we're at the portion where we'd ask if there's anything in particular you want to talk about what you're working on next. And also make sure you get in there your Instagram handle and anywhere and everywhere that people should be checking you and uh your films out yeah well check out the films on netflix again um forks over knives has had its run it's still on netflix it's been there for almost a decade uh but they don't pay me anymore so don't worry about that one um west side versus the world play that recommend it, rate it like five stars or whatever. However they do the ratings is a thumbs up, thumbs down.
Starting point is 01:07:50 I don't know. Um, I always forget how that part goes on Netflix. Yeah. Maybe they changed it. I don't know. I've never done. I didn't even know you could do that.
Starting point is 01:07:58 I'll do it for West side versus the world. That'll be my first one. Yeah. But, uh, give it a positive rating or whatever tell your friends about it turn it on your you know spouse's tv and then just leave um again if you if you don't have it on netflix where you are you don't have netflix itunes amazon vimeo.com uh if you are again one of those uh listeners from foreign lands and uh other stuff
Starting point is 01:08:28 um i'm gonna be the arnold coming up i'm uh gonna be out there with the wpo i'm gonna be out there with my film crew um because uh already working on the next one. Um, so, uh, come see me there. Come watch the world's best equipped lifting there. Um, do you know where it's at? Do it again,
Starting point is 01:08:54 where it's at? It is in rooms, a one 10 through a one 15. So it's in the main building. It's in the, yeah, right. Perfect. You come down those escalators right by where you
Starting point is 01:09:05 buy the tickets or whatever or enter the expo it's like the first big it'll be open facing the expo um the xpc will be there on the days after it okay so wpo's thursday and friday uh women than men Friday, Women Than Men. Go check out the WPO Superfinals on YouTube. You can watch the whole damn thing. I watched that on YouTube. Yeah. You and
Starting point is 01:09:37 roughly 40,000 other people on YouTube and another 30 or 40,000 on ESPN3. Making it one of the most watched meets in the world last year. Quite a cool little feat for a multi-play. For sure. Yeah. And look out for some more stuff with ESPN coming up
Starting point is 01:10:01 throughout the rest of the year with me. Maybe something in the late summer. And I think definitely something in October. Yeah, I don't have more details on that right now. You can't go farther into that just yet. Can we get the exclusive? We'll get you back on for the exclusive when you're going to release more information on that.
Starting point is 01:10:28 Yeah. If one of the things happen, it'll be really sweet. I think it will. But it'll be big and weird. Alright. People will be excited or upset. So that's the best reaction.
Starting point is 01:10:44 I like to divide a room with my actions. At the Arnold, where and when did you need Tommy and I for our on-camera ESPN interview with Donnie? We'll talk about that offline. We'll talk about the specifics of the contract
Starting point is 01:11:05 and everything crowding around yeah well I was gonna say that the venue actually failed its ESPN inspection so that's the reason I'm not saying come check us out on ESPN 3 on those days cause it turns out
Starting point is 01:11:21 you have to like watch where you lay wires and stuff when there's 200 000 people walking around and they're very concerned about fire hazards um it's a room full of very fit people they'll figure it out yeah it's uh what do you call the the like intense electro stem um you know what I'm talking about like the machines you put on your muscles complex yeah like a complex
Starting point is 01:11:51 yeah it's you know like basically we would just be laying like seven to twelve hundred feet of on the ground that could simultaneously service most of the attendees and uh that was that was deemed unsafe for some reason that's understandable yeah uh we will hopefully catch
Starting point is 01:12:16 you there at some point in time though we'll be tied to our booth most time but we'll be there thursday setting up so maybe we'll get a chance there to pop over then and, and see you at some point. All right. If not, I'll find you. All right. You know where to find us. I do. And it won't be at the booth.
Starting point is 01:12:32 It won't be in a public place, but I'll find you. That's what I meant. I was winking. You probably couldn't see me winking when I said, you know where to find. You'll feel my breath on your neck. Oh, is that Michaelael did you feel that that
Starting point is 01:12:47 felt like michael's breath yeah all right all right man all right thanks for uh thanks a lot chatting with us we'll catch up with you then yeah follow at west side film on ig right on all right all Thanks, man. Thanks. Bye. I forget that's actually a phone call on my phone. Yeah, we're all talking on the old phone machine. Yeah. Wow. That was Michael Fahey of West Side vs. the World fame.
Starting point is 01:13:21 We know all the insider secrets of the film industry. I really enjoy hearing some about that behind-the-scenes stuff. Yeah, to me, that's the really exciting stuff. That is a cool part because you don't really know how any of that usually works. It's cool that it's related to powerlifting and everything, of course. But like, it's just cool in the space of like what it's like for documentaries getting on Netflix. We all watch them. Yeah, I know. It's like there's so many movies on there.
Starting point is 01:13:41 But how do they get on there? Yeah, right. I haven't taken the time to Google it, obviously. Well, why would we Google it when we can just call Michael on our podcast? Who has the time to do that when you can just talk to someone about it like we do? So,
Starting point is 01:13:52 yeah, I guess I kind of learned something. That was cool. And he has something coming up later this year, possibly two things. So, and that was news to us as well. Do you think it's a Louis Simmons,
Starting point is 01:14:04 Forks Over Knives collabo? You know, he didn't say that it's not a Masonomics documentary. You do have a point. He didn't say that that's not what it is. Yep. So maybe we know about it and we just can't talk to him yet either. It's one of those episodes of American Greed about Masonomics. Or it's maybe an episode of Hoarders
Starting point is 01:14:25 and they just come and look in my basement at all the shirts. Sir, you have a problem. This man's addicted to putting shirts on shelves. Bring in those green dump trucks. Oh, God, there's rats in here. Yep. Oh, he's stashing a boy down here, too.
Starting point is 01:14:44 That's my son uh last week's overrated underrated topics with uh last week's guest special guest jake boley of barbend topic number one was true form runners i believe he said overrated jake said overrated people said 61 overrated that doesn't surprise me that our that our crowd would be against cardio yeah that very true but still not it wasn't like yeah yeah 90 percenter because i think there's some respect for those as far as treadmills go yep um flannel shirts jake said underrated 71 percent underrated also does not surprise me either use an actual photo of this is a before photo for jake or weight loss transformation. Overrated or underrated in New York City?
Starting point is 01:15:29 Jake, is that overrated? He said overrated. People, 85% overrated. That's one of those things that's like, well, I chose to live somewhere else, so I'm saying that place is overrated. Yes, exactly. I would be shocked if it was not that result. Instagram fitness challenges. He rode the line on that a little bit, but I think he ultimately said underrated. I do believe yes.
Starting point is 01:15:46 And the people voted 80% overrated. Doesn't surprise me that people would say that. Because honestly, it's something that not every, it's a minority of people, even when they go very popular, it's still a minority of people participating in them. Very small people participating. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:16:02 And if you're someone that's never going to participate in them you're probably a hater um last we'll act nope i got a topic here we'll save it for next episode we've gone too long just kind of out here just uh the teaser is there's a lifter a usa pl lifter we've never talked about before.
