Welcome to Master of Memory. I'm Timothy and I'm here to answer your accelerated learning questions every day
and to inspire and empower you to learn anything you want to learn faster than ever.
Florian recently asked me an interesting question about learning the entire Bible.
Florian says, I thought about making my read the Bible in a year habit more effective.
So I figured besides taking notes, I Bible in a year habit more effective.
So I figured besides taking notes, I could use a schedule for better retention.
Since for all of us, remembering what we read and applying it in real life is the main goal of reading the Word,
I thought, how about coming up with a reading plan based on the retention schedule interval?
But here's the deal. Would it not be too much?
What about if you're, say, in Isaiah, and you've already finished the Old Testament before it?
Would that not amount to huge portions that have to be re-read each day as the year progresses?
I thought about it. As time progresses, the norm would become eight reviews a day.
That's a lot.
An additional problem would be that due to the review pattern,
reviewing will not happen in context, but scattered throughout the whole Bible. All right, now the thing is, so this is not Florian anymore. I exchanged a couple more
messages with Florian, and we basically came to the conclusion that it'd be cool to review,
but not necessarily reading entire passages, rather reviewing our notes from the previous
passages, or if anyone wants, actually reviewing the topics
and memorizing the topics from previous passages.
So what I responded in my email was that what I personally would suggest is actually something
that'll take less time, but possibly be more effective.
Read four chapters a day to get through in one year.
You skip one day a week and you stop when you get to the ends of books and it works
out.
Read four chapters a day to get through in one year. You skip one day a week and you stop when you get to the ends of books and it works out. Read four chapters a day to get through in one year. But while doing that, go ahead and memorize
the key verses and or topics of what you're reading. Then follow a retention schedule,
but only to review the verses, not reread the entire chapters. That way you'll just be reviewing
up to about 24 verses a day, plus doing four chapters of reading. This is what I'm planning
to do this next year. Now, actually, after I sent that email, I really settled on reviewing the
topics, not the verses, because I've calculated that there would be about 75 a week, or a dozen
a day, when you break down the entire Bible. And a dozen a day is a lot of verses to review,
but it's very few topics to review if you just want to
remember what's in each chapter of the Bible. So here is a call to action for the audience who is
interested in Scripture memory. I know that that's not everyone, obviously, but for anyone who is and
wants to do a year-long challenge with me, we can do this together. You can hold me accountable as
well, but basically just go to masterofmemory.com slash Bible,
and you can join me on this one-year challenge.
This is very much not for everyone.
You'll have to do some work six days a week,
and it'll take a lot of memory work,
but I think it's really rewarding in the end.
It's going to be challenging but rewarding.
Doing this all year long, staying consistent.
I'll send you an email every day.
So again, it's not for everyone, but masterofmemory.com slash Bible is where you can sign up basically to
learn the entire Bible in one year in 2016, if I'm able to make it work and if we're all kind of
successful in doing that. So it's up to you, but masterofmemory.com slash Bible. Meanwhile, for
everyone listening, what do you want to learn? Leave your learning request but masterofmemory.com slash Bible. Meanwhile, for everyone listening, what do you want to learn?
Leave your learning request at masterofmemory.com slash question, and I'll talk to you again soon.
Merry Christmas.
