Episode Date: July 8, 2026Redcrown lies behind them. The Happy Eater, somewhere ahead. And the crew of the Godsinger is in a race to beat their rivals. What a view from the deck of the godsinger.
As we arrived in Red Crown,
everyone was celebrating a festival where I tried juicy,
crezerin-free fruit that might also control my mind.
At least that's what Keza told me it would do,
but I'm still waiting for it to kick in.
A beautiful day to sniff out secrets of the wild sea
and find some new treasures to keep in my pocket.
Collecting started out great. Before we even made port, I found a new trinket in the pockets of a redwood pirate that boarded our ship.
He left with less than he came with, and I got a new shiny thing.
I also think Zinn may have scared them pretty badly, so they may not be back.
Because we got attacked on their watch, the Kingsman gave us lots of shiny treasures we asked for.
People seemed to really like the way Red Crown treats them, even if they have to lose something, like limbs in the process.
Lucky for me, mine grow back pretty easily since I'm made out of fungus.
Since I'm not a stowaway on this ship, I can officially join all of the official business.
We need ship upgrades to help us reach shardfall.
That's a place on the map that's far away, where we'll have to find another map to take us to another, even more, secret place.
I love all the things the wild sea holes.
As usual, the best way to get what we need is to help other.
with the things that we're good at.
In this case, we're taking a timber flow mercantile job.
Sounds like their flagship went missing
and then reappeared a few weeks later.
Only, instead of rejoining the fleet,
it violently took over two other ships
belonging to the mercantile.
Maybe its captain Oric is to blame.
Seems like he was pretty stray-laced,
which sounds like a lot of captains
that I've hidden from in shipholds.
But Oric had a brain pearl on his ship manifest,
a powerful drug,
that could maybe change how he's acting.
You know, sometimes when people stand too close to me,
they get a little light-headed from inhaling all my spores.
So if Oric took a brain pearl and forgot how uptight he was,
maybe he started stealing from himself,
which is not the best way to get new treasures.
I guess our rivals, the mass romantics, want that job too,
but they'll be wasting their time trawling in the timber flow
without a compass of all things.
And meanwhile, we're setting a trap with a decoy ship
stocked with all of Oric's favorite things, including a brain pearl of our own.
I promise I won't try it.
Well, they'll never see us coming.
Oh, they'll probably hear us.
Our ship is quite loud.
Onward to the Mesoria.
As Bebo finishes saying this all out loud to the winds as he stands on the deck of the ship,
his little dragonfly kind of buzzes around his head.
It's got saddlebags over the sides of it.
and it's just kind of doing circles around listening as he just pontificates into the wind
and pauses and looks out over the side of the ship.
Are those camellia Wakudas?
He says kind of peering out into the bramble that surrounds him.
Um, Basu, can you, can you go check that out?
There's something, something shiny on there.
Hey, everyone, I see something interesting out there.
Basu, your dragonfly companion, zips out into the verdancy.
After a moment, Basu returns buzzing around you with the confirmation that it sees something shiny in the fin,
wrapped around a fin of one of these camellia cutas towards the back.
Bebo begins to trip over himself, just all of his kind of fungal features going splat in his excitement.
he's kind of stumbling forward.
Zen, Zen,
guess that?
There's, oh my, oh my goodness.
And he's just frantically looking for you both.
You don't actually get the chance to trip over yourself
because Zen has been,
Zen walked up while you were doing that whole breakdown.
And before you can stumble,
I reach my hand down and catch you.
Are you speaking to me now?
Are you still talking to the wind?
I'm speaking to you now.
He gives me a little half-hearted wave.
Flips his hat brim up to look at you more carefully.
What have you discovered?
Well, there's some creatures out there.
I mean, Camelio Kudas, but something shiny, wrapped around a tail.
And, I mean, we've got plenty of shiny things already, but I always have room for one more.
Are we sure that this is a necessary stop for us to make?
Necessary?
He seems to mold us over with the look of someone who's not.
never considered that as a factor before.
You don't have to take every shiny thing that you see.
I've considered it.
What if it's fair and it's looking for a home?
I always appreciate a good place to stow away.
I figure it might like to stow away somewhere with me.
Carry on.
I think Keza is actually up on the observation deck with the captain.
And while the captain sits in his chair doing absolutely,
absolutely nothing, because the process of trying to make sure the ship is still moving.
And he brings this big, like, ambulating microphone to his face as he's still operating these two big levees.
And he calls out over the loudspeaker that has to be louder than the engine.
So it does sort of echo out into the canopy level.
I think that they're attracted to the list.
They like the sound of it, Peeba.
Ah, Basu, do you think you can get close enough
to maybe snatch whatever shiny?
Basu excitedly zips back out into the verdancy,
hovers over the pod of Camellia Cuta,
and at that right moment just kind of dips down
under the canopy, losing sight of him for a moment
before he burst back up,
carrying whatever shiny thing in his little mandibles.
zipping back to you, he drops off something that lands hard on the deck of the ship.
It is a flexing servo hand. You also gain a whisper, limelous rising.
Bebo approaches the hand and looks up at Basu, extending his own fungal features as a place to land
and gives Basu a brief pet, like one would pet, a domesticated animal,
and brings him up close to the face area of his fungus facade,
and just says,
You did really good. What a dive!
And then he looks to the hand and looks at Zinn.
Do you want this one?
It seems to be kind of you-ish.
Immediately I activate the natural connection I have.
with other technology and I open the pathway towards this hand.
No response of sentience, but your analyzation of it makes it clear that it could be used by you.
Well, Bevo, when you're right, you're right.
Well, I'm glad that this one has found it's home with you.
Keza comes over the loudspeaker again, still at the pulleys and levees.
It says, I don't know if you all know this, but there are delicacy of these ones.
Great roasted.
I'm going to see if I can catch a few.
And he's going to take this sort of like zip line cabled apparatus from the observation deck that comes on down to the main deck.
He's going to flip on the nightlights, the floodlights on the sides of the godsinger here.
And then swing down to the main deck.
He hurries over to the lead.
light, basically, that sits over our head saw. And he's going to reach into his body and pull out
what is this prismatic piece of plastic he's been keeping about and fit it into the light itself
and see if he can refract some colors off of that prismatic surface to draw the
chameleons into the front there.
The prism is put up in place
And sure enough, this refraction of light
A multitude of colors begin to spray everywhere
And in the darkness, in the wee early hours of the morning
Before the sun has risen, it is brilliant
And it does catch the attention of this pod.
Three of them leap onto the very deck of the godsinger
When they slap onto the deck of the ship,
They are long, but they have these stocky, thick arms.
Their mouth is full of these jagged, serrated teeth,
and their eyes looking in almost every direction.
There's a kind of crazed nature to them,
and they immediately begin attacking anyone that they see.
Asa pulls up the prism, he yells out to Zinn.
Zinn, I'm so sorry.
I've only had them dead.
I didn't know.
I didn't know.
All of you make reaction roles
as these three camellia cutas begin biting at you.
You cut away.
one of them down almost immediately.
They're mean, but they're not necessarily tough to kill.
And as it dies, a whisper comes to your mind, active camouflage.
Bebo, one of them is chomping at your extremities,
and you're able to fend off just long enough,
but it eventually gets a hold of you,
and you're going to take two points of aspect damage.
There's a twist with Keza and Bebo.
I think the twist with mine is that initially right after the saw comes through and Bebo is attacked.
The swiftness with which the first goes down causes one of the other two to skirt off of the deck of the ship, leaving just one left.
The flesh that was pierced by this creature is severed, and he just can't seem to get it to grow back.
Something got twisted up in there
and he immediately tries to
respawn the area and he's like,
ah, no.
Zinn, the one that
bites Bebo, immediately does a backflip over
Bibo and goes for you to
biting down on your metallic
armor, but it does leave a dent.
You're going to take one point of aspect damage.
Captain Zanko comes over the loudspeaker and says,
you didn't use the prism on the camellia cutas, did you?
Oh, God.
You can hear him shuffling towards the helm.
I swear they taste so good.
It's gotta be worth it.
Because this one chose to harm me,
its life is now forfeit, and I shoot it.
Where it bit, I didn't realize it actually had made my hand force
a portion of the cylinder out of my revolver,
so it wasn't all the way in.
So when I pulled the trigger, there was nothing to fire.
Take another point of aspect damage.
What's the twist?
because the chamber of the revolver wasn't fully chambered
or the bullets got loose
and it slipped down the throat of this creature
and it begins to choke immediately.
The camellia cue to, you know, at first is chomping on you
and you hear the grinding metal, then
and it starts kind of flopping on the deck of the ship.
How did you do that?
Bibo yells jumping up and down.
Yes.
that was on purpose
The Camellia Cuda
frantic from not being able to breathe
is now moving its way off the ship trying to escape
No
Zip, damn it! Zin filling a need to
immediately
to save this moment
Cut of one
The Camelia Cuda jumps onto
the railing of the ship and just before it jumps off
you fire at it
I've somehow managed to shoot
the bullet that was already inside of it, causing a dual explosion.
There's this, like, gush of rainbow blood that, like, encapsulates all of us on the...
It's a huge mess.
The pod of Camellia Kuta are slowly moving away from the ship, not interested in the violence
happening on the deck.
At that same moment, the first bits of rays of sunlight begin to rise in the sky.
as you see a new day is dawning.
Keza is like wiping some of the gunk
that is now seeping into his skin
and becoming a part of his body.
But in the other hand,
he grabs the tail of the one we've managed to keep
and he starts dragging it off towards the cargo
and he turns his head over his shoulder.
He says, who wants breakfast?
He goes to prepare.
I don't eat.
And I go to clean myself.
Right.
as spraying little rainbow rivulets as his mouth forms and all of the things that had
seeped into the crevasses of his face just kind of become a projectile.
And he shakes himself off like a dog really quickly and they just go everywhere, covering Basu,
the dragonfly. Sorry Basu. Basu's just completely rainbow-fied as he walks forward,
leaving little squelching footprints as he follows Keza into the hole.
As the sun rises, you can make out where the god singer is.
Captain Zanko has been leading the ship around the curvature of Red Crown.
You are far from the shallows, but you have yet to make the curve around the crescent-shaped mountain ridge.
And as you are preparing the fish, you hear over the loudspeaker, Captain Zanko's voice.
When you're already, come find me up in the helm.
We've got to talk about what our plan is.
I think that Keza unclasps an apron that he has modified,
that used to say kiss the cook,
but he is drawn in big black marker, Kiss the Squid.
And he carries it over the grill there,
and he sets the top down just to let the fish roast out.
And he goes up to the observation deck.
It'll be fine. I'm sure they'll be good by the time we've done talking.
Bivo looks longingly at the food.
Yeah, talking is never brief with that guy, but yeah, it'll still be here.
Basu, please keep an eye on this. I really, really want it.
And he follows Keza.
So that's like a person, and he kind of points to Basu, who is now like tending to the grill
and doing indentured servitude for us.
He's more like a companion.
and he's too old to fly very far now, but, um, man, he's a, he's a great traveling buddy.
You know, when you find the right traveling buddy, it's, it's a really special thing.
Yeah, I'm glad you have someone to talk to people. It'll be good when, you know, we move on and everything.
You'll, you have Basu who talks and he looks at Basu again.
Well, when we move on, I, I mean, we'll be moving together. That's the beautiful thing about the wild.
You're always moving, he says.
He, like, sways with the ship.
Yeah, you and Basu, and then Kese goes up the stairs.
Just completely assuming he's continuing to list all the names of the people on the ship.
He happily follows you.
Because we have luxury room, I have put a miniature laundry, washer, and dryer in my room
and place my clothes in there.
So when Zinn does join you, he is instead, instead,
Instead of wearing his normal fare, he is wearing a large, fluffy robe with some nice slippers.
Oh, Zinn, you look comfortable.
My clothing was very dirty, Kese.
Yeah, I'm really sorry about that.
It's too bad about that bullet, huh?
You don't, it's hard to tell if you're being glared at by a person who doesn't really blink.
You swear those normally light yellow eyes just briefly go red in your direction and they go right back.
Sin, buddy, I promise.
Next port, I'll buy you a full new fit.
Whatever you want, okay?
You point out, it's yours.
I will do something to make it even.
Don't worry about it.
And he pats you on the shoulder.
Ha, ha, ha, ha.
Captain Zenko.
I never turn away from Kaza.
I never stop looking at you.
Captain Zanko is waiting for you at the wheel.
His looks to be about three arms and two legs.
All of them maneuvering the wheel.
Come on in, guys.
Come on in.
So I'm curious to know now that we've evaded Red Crown authorities breaking the law there,
what's the plan?
How do we want to move?
I see two schools of thought.
One, we go the slow route.
We hit this orchard, we find out everything we possibly need to know, and we set up the perfect heist.
Or two, we absolutely beat the romantics there.
We forge past the orchard.
We go as fast as we can.
We set up and hope that the loot we have is enough to dry it.
As we said before, we are, unfortunately, in a race against a bunch of, to quote you as assholes.
Yeah.
Is there a happy medium between the two?
Or is it longer the other?
Captain Zanko looks back to the shallows, the direction of the shallows,
and says, well, we've got at least 12 hours on them.
And then I could always forge ahead and move the ship fast.
It's going to be a little harder to spot interesting things along the way.
But I think we could get to there and half the time, the orchard or the snarl,
wherever you decide to end up.
I suppose I can forego finding fun things along the way just this once.
It is my favorite part of travel, but I think, I think it'll be worth it.
You know, especially with the looks on their faces, those romantics.
Ah, I think it's totally worth it.
I believe this is what pride feels like, and I kind of pat beep on the head.
His hat flops down with the weight of your hand.
You can kind of glimpse his smiling face, like with every flop.
Captain Zanko shrugs.
Sounds like as good of a plan as any.
I'll turn the engine on full blast.
It's going to be loud, but I think by now you guys are used to it.
Aren't you man your stations and we'll get to it?
We'll be there probably in the next day.
Keswick goes and opens this big metal case on the side of the observation deck
and inside takes out this almost like Tupperware container of plastic.
He comes over to them.
He opens it full and then hands out about 20 separate earpluses.
to Bebo.
He goes to give two to Zinn and then remembers and puts them in his own and then offers
some over to Zanko, knowing that once the afterburner's on, it gets really bad in here.
And in offering, he answers only in old hand, knowing that now we're switching over to that
sort of advanced form of sign language in order to communicate while the ship is too loud to
talk. Bebo accepts these earplugs and puts them in all of the various holes on his form.
Some of them in places you wouldn't expect ears to be like directly in front of his face and one on
his belly button. Thank you. And then I think Keza is going to take his spot as first mate at the helm
and get back to those pullies and levies as Zanko's version of, oh, I'll take the helm and
forges ahead is sitting back in his chair. And he works with,
Zanko to make sure that things are ready to go.
Once my clothes are ready again, I will dress and then take my point on watch.
A sign of conspiracy, perhaps pointing to an impressive secret of shadowed truth.
Describe for us what that could look like.
We discover the conspiracy tied to this apparently way too uptight.
captain that would never do any of the stuff that we've heard he's done and we find signs of
oh no this was flat out a setup of some sort as the godsinger sails around the cape of red crown
there is a single uh an outwriter not so much writing the verdancy as
desperately trying to cling onto it and not fall into the under eaves.
And it's coming past your ship.
Looks like there's a single writer on it.
I give the sign to slow down.
Captain Zanko put, you know, nudges Keza.
Looks like Zin sees something.
I think Keza goes to the six separate levees that needs to be moved in different phases
just to slow this fucking thing down.
And he picks up the goggles up from his eyes and pulls back, yeah, I think I saw that too, Captain.
And I'm wrenching back the levers.
I'm also going to pull a string off the top here that flies three separate communication flags off the side of our ship that mean no harm.
The ship is moving so fast that you, in fact, pass this outrider.
Zinn, you're close enough to see that there is a single, what looks to be ardent man,
almost kind of passed out in the seat of this outrider, seemingly unconscious.
The ship slows just enough and you make the slow turn,
and you get within reach of the outrider.
The individual does not respond remaining seemingly unconscious.
Pistol out, in case this is a setup,
I go over and I expect the person.
They are sunburnt, their lips peeling,
clearly malnutritioned, probably haven't eaten or drunken in a while,
and your sensors can just barely tell that they are breathing,
but currently unconscious.
They appear to be dressed like a sailor of a larger vessel.
Uh, lucky for you.
I am not a...
pirate. I pick up, I pick him up and bring him over to the, to the ship. I'll set him up in the
couch, on the couch in my room. And then whatever sounds and things, we restocked, so whatever
sounds and things we acquired, I will apply as necessary. And piece of bread, I don't know what
humans eat. Chameleon fish. Yeah, yes, that's right, there was barbecue. I hear that,
that this is worth it.
Eat it.
Build a pool using the camellia cuta filet.
Slowly he begins to come around.
His eyes open, red bloodshot.
Did I make it to Red Crown?
I'm afraid not.
You were on your way, but you fell unconscious.
I have to get to Red Crown.
I have to tell him, and he kind of collapses back into the
bed.
In due time, sir, your ship is still
serviceable, but you
are not. He can't even
fight the tiredness and he falls
back asleep.
I go back to, I go back
up, up
top. He was on his way to Red
Crowd. Apparently
he has information that
needs to get back there, but he felt
back unconscious before he could say anything.
Given the direction he
is coming from, do you believe that this could have
anything to do with what we are undergoing.
Keza responds in his awful old hand.
Maybe nothing body?
Touch, touch body.
Inside body.
Touch inside body.
Right back in Old Hand.
You wish me to open him up and take his insides?
And he's like desperately trying to get this ship to be quiet.
Does he have anything on him?
I'll pick the man's pockets.
Now back in Old Hand.
Good fist.
Thank you, Metal.
We need to work on that.
And then I leave the room.
So Bebo is in the engine room.
And Bebo having kind of been working with this Leviathan heart,
finds that it responds to singing.
And so if he can sing or sing,
loud enough to match the beating of the heart.
It can kind of quell the noise for a little bit as it soothes.
But it doesn't last long.
So he's kind of in mid-warble when the heartbeat picks up again and the noise returns.
And he sees the light and he's like, oh, good.
I only knew three verses.
He returns to tending the engine.
Searching the man's pockets, there appears to be some crumbs of rations.
long since dried and stale.
But checking his neck, there is a necklace,
a kind of dog tag that reads his name,
Lee, a member of the happy eater.
Oh, how fortuitous?
And then I kind of just leave the room.
Like, at that moment of,
and I stare blankly and realize,
oh, no, I'm taking too much out.
I've got to stop speaking out loud.
I come up and then I sighed back to you.
He's from the happy eater.
Fuck shit.
Yes.
Good.
Piss.
How should we proceed?
Wait.
Body.
Shall we park for now?
No time.
Fucking assholes.
And he like points in the direction of where he thinks,
Red Crown is to signal the romantic.
The engine goes back up in noise.
The heart in the engine room begins beating back at its rapid pace.
The ship moves at a frenetic pace around the side of Red Crown.
And as the day progresses, you begin to notice that you are entering garden country, the famous Meseraya, an endless valley.
of iron roots,
red crowns,
eastern shores,
the opposite side
has these very large cliffs,
looks a lot less like a coastline
and more like the exposed edge of a continent.
The cliffs are the first thing you notice,
tall and green with ferns and moss and hanging vines.
They rise in immense,
folded walls of basalt and ancient lava,
weathered into these pleaded ridges by centuries of trade winds and rain.
Kesa, something is coming.
A cacophony of shapes moving quickly towards the ship.
With the godsinger flying in that same direction,
there are mere moments before whatever is coming is about to hit the ship.
I'm going to flash hazard light.
so that even with the amount of sound,
I can't communicate,
at least those hazards will let everyone on board know
that something's going wrong.
And then under a glass case in the front there,
there are two individual buttons
that will, when toggled,
start our ship's saws out in the front,
or at least the big ramming saws that we will use
in that triangular shape that extends out the front,
making us effectively a bullet.
And I'm going to initiate that to get those saws revving.
So we're now even louder,
but at least when we make impact,
whatever hits us will be cut up more so than we will be.
Make a ship rating roll.
It's a stampede.
Animals of all shapes and sizes.
Enormous crabs, chamelea cutas,
macadrills, all of them running from something.
The saws come on and it is inevitable that many of them get caught in that saw,
blood of different colors spewing in every direction.
But it is so many of them that they must clamor onto and over the ship.
The deck becomes littered in random animals that seem to be scrambling away from something.
What's the twist?
I think the twist is the saw has cut such an effective pincer through the
stampede that whatever it is that they're running from has better been revealed to us
and we're seeing it before it's too late.
There's a fire, a huge fire that seems to be engulfing an area directly ahead.
Let's take a break to thank some people.

Kindred,
this is a call home.
We built it as an escape.
A beautiful place to disappear.
Ocean views.
Empty rooms.
Old money.
The dead came here to rest,
but something has changed.
Omen stir here.

Good luck.
And now, back to the show.
I begin doing my best to scare them off the deck because they will throw off the weight of the ship.
And these are forest-dwelling creatures.
They can make do off of this ship, preferably.
Shoe.
Shoo.
Build a pool.
These animals seem to be.
too petrified to put up a fight
and many of them do in fact
react to your large
dark frame and they leap
off the side of the ship and continue
going past the ship.
There are still the occasional scattered
insect and large creature
abhor but many of them have
left. What is the twist?
I think one of those
creatures in their fear
maybe it's like one of the only
solitary ones. While I'm
trying to shoot them it literally grabs
grasps onto me.
A pangopod, a mix
between an armadillo
of the preverent world and a monkey
kind of scatters up onto
your shoulder and is kind of cowering,
looking for safety.
Fine, you can stay.
Bebo feels the shift in weight
and the clattering of
hooves and strange noises
on the deck above.
and kind of pats the side of the container of the Leviathan heart.
Hold steady, hold steady.
I need to check this out.
And he makes his way topside.
So he kind of bursts through the entryway off balance and kind of taking in the scene,
tilts his hat up and more little holes open up on his body to take this scene in more.
Goodness, did we hit a zoo?
Then he takes in the smoke and flames in the near distance.
You see the flames in the distance.
There's no smoke.
He drops to all fours.
His limbs kind of crack and move in a way that he becomes more animalistic,
mirroring the animals around him.
And he begins to kind of pat around on the deck.
Fire, no smoke.
Fire, no smoke.
He runs up to where he knows Keza and the captain are stationed and looks at them with just fear all over his face.
We need to leave.
We need to get away.
It's unnatural.
No smoke rises.
Something is very wrong here.
The only way through, through speed, fast, over.
Captain Zanko points out in the direction of where this fire is and he says, there's a ship.
right in the middle of it.
You're going to have to do something,
otherwise you're going to run right through that thing.
Side, board, pull.
Kesa is like pulling to the side now,
trying to go off left of now the ship
that's been warned in the middle.
In that addition, he is also going to try
and winch claw the side of it.
You have the extra addition of Vivo's many limbs,
so he kind of puts tentative limbs
wraps fungal fingers around different things that control the ship,
but he's looking to you for direction.
Keza, make a ship rating roll to avoid the ship.
Add 1D6 for advantage.
Cut of one.
The Godsinger veers hard portside.
The winch fires out.
And you can see lands clearly on the deck of this ship that is in the center of this fire.
The godsinger whips past the fire and immediately you all fire.
feel the entire ship lurch as it pulls the weight of this ship that is apparently on fire.
The ship is going to take one dot of raiding damage.
The ship is still flying, though, and it is now pulling not just a decoy ship, but now this other one.
And you could all hear the Leviathan heart straining under the pressure of pulling all of this weight.
Should we cut one loose?
It's too much for her.
other ship find out fire and Keza is like pointing to Zanko and pointing at the
controls and then starts running off in such a flurry that his coat kicks up
while you're doing that I will be checking on our guest in my room to make sure
that he hasn't been flung into a wall and he has in fact been thrown to a wall
and he is now clamoring to stand on his feet what's going on there was a fire
and a ship in the middle of it, we were trying to avoid.
I should have secured you better,
but I was not anticipating such brash driving.
Is the other ship the Happy Eater?
Well, we'll discover that next.
He's running to the stern side of the ship
now that the bigger ship is now kept off our back,
and he is following the board lines, the winches.
And the second he gets to those winches,
is he makes this bizarre X sign across his chest
that is completely incorrect to doctrine he never truly lived,
takes his saw, connects it off the sheath,
runs it over to his top,
and he's going to flip it so the non-sawtooth blade
cuts over the winch and begins to slide down
to that other new ship.
Seeing that his fears are unanswered,
they just hang in the air
after he asks the question.
He rushes down the stairs back to the engine room,
skittering much like a spider does with multiple legs,
just kind of not keeping up with his speed
and just kind of catching on the floor
as he patters as quickly as he can down to it.
And he says, hold on old girl!
And he's going to attempt to overload the engine
so that it can continue moving with both of the decoy ship
and this new ship that we've picked up.
But it's almost the opposite of singing, which calms it.
He's going to begin to describe what's happening
and kind of like stomp his feet
and make a bunch of aggressive noise
as he tells the tale of their situation to the heart
to get it to be worked up as he is.
What is a resource you're going to sacrifice
to overload the engine?
He will sacrifice hallucin,
hallucinogenic firefly jar that he's holding onto.
He opens it up and they fly through the room and as his storytelling continues,
there's animals. It's crushing us. The flames. It's close. The fireflies begin to like sparkle
and the hallucinogenic properties go to him, go to the Leviathan heart, just kind of fill the room,
amplifying his story and creating this urgency for it. As if the Leviathan's,
and that once owned this heart recalls fire,
and it begins beating even harder,
just sticking to the intense pace to outpace the fire.
Keza, without any issue,
you are able to zip line down to the other ship
where the winch is bitten into its hull.
You land gracefully onto the deck of the ship,
and immediately you are met by no sign of any burn
on the ship whatsoever, although it appears covered in small flames everywhere, the crew begin
to pour out of the ship, and they're saying, what are you doing?
Let us go, slow down your ship.
They seem very annoyed at you.
What are you doing?
You're on fire!
They roll their eyes, and they say, it's not fire, it's a conflagration shoal, and they point to the fire.
and as you look finally becomes clear, it isn't flames.
It's some kind of swarm of insects that have these red and yellow iridescent kind of shells,
and they're vibrating in such a way as to perfectly mimic flames.
Well, it fucking works.
We were trying to collect them.
We're using them for an outpost.
We were trying to save you.
save you we thought you were dying we understand that's why we're not that mad can you stop your ship
already uh at first he's gonna wave his arms like crazy over at the ship and then realizing that's
useless he's going to reach in and take uh from the side there uh this uh like warbling old uh
almost like a radio um apparatus um that is like one way um it sends as
series of beeps the second that he taps that button.
And in a sort of Morse code, these chip tunes arrive to Zinn's side that speak.
First, fuck, dot dash, they're okay, dot dash, fake fucking fire, dot dash, pull winch.
I go back out, fire where the exact point that he fired the winch, I spot him,
and I begin reeling him in.
Make a roll with a cut of one.
Just like the fish.
I overcompensate for the statue inside of his body.
And in doing so, the force that wrenches him forward
causes him to slam into the side of the godsinger
a bit too hard.
The godsinger is going to take another point of reigning's damage
to its seals.
Captain Zanko over the loudspeaker,
what are you doing?
Should I slow down or not?
Yes, slow down.
Slow death.
We got to get to Bebo.
I run down to the injureum.
The sheer impact,
Kesa knocks his head
against the railing on the
front of their ship.
And it causes a part of that
statue skull to come
free from the ooze for a second, is ink block patterns begin to whirl dizzingly,
which now is causing many of the new folks they're just starting to meet with these flamebugs
to become sicker, perhaps even violently sick, from the dizzying, disgusting swirls of gray and black
that become like whirling hypnotism illusions across his skin. And he says, yeah,
So anyway, it's good to meet all you.
I'm really sorry about all this.
You can't tell us it doesn't look like fucking flames, huh?
They're all looking past you now, pointing past the ships.
There is a rift in the verdancy, a gigantic hole that if the ship doesn't stop soon, may fall into.
Bevo.
Bevo's own voice is at a crescendo.
Faster, we must not die like this.
Slower! We are going to die like this.
If that's the case, the opposite. The opposite.
We are going far too fast. I cannot unattach from the other ship at this speed. We need to stop.
He takes this information in and puts all of his hands, limbs on the wall to setty himself.
We'll attempt to soothe the heart, kind of humming a little tune.
But it's almost like he doesn't believe it because he was so amped up before.
I'll need your help in.
I'm just a little too on edge.
Can you please sing to the heart for me?
Fine.
I will sing.
Go to sleep.
Go to sleep.
Go to sleep, giant heart now.
We are going to crash if you do not slow down.
With Captain Zanko also putting on the brakes at the helm,
Bebo, make a ship rating roll.
to slow it down.
No cut because of that beautiful song.
Again, this incredible lurch of gravity
gets a hold of all of you.
Let me have you all make reaction rolls
to avoid flipping off the ship
or smashing into a wall.
Keza, Bebo, you aren't able to brace yourself
quick enough. You're going to take one dot
of aspect damage.
Bebo, what's the twist?
I could give you a whisper.
I'll take it.
treacherous waves.
Zin, your body is solid as a rock, does not move as everything comes to a screeching halt.
The entire ship, the godsinger, reverses its sawprows, tearing up the verdancy, and coming to a stop just before, just at the edge of this rift that looks down into the inky blackness of the under eaves.
and the whole ship lurches back, stopping the engine dying down,
and the Leviathan heart slowing down at last.
Good job, Bebo.
Oh, no, you've heard yourself.
I help Bebo up.
He takes a look at the hole that had formed in his limb earlier that did not heal
and is shocked and knew by it, but he's like, oh, that was there.
No, I'm fine.
Realizing that we have both just narrowly avoided both God-San
and this ship falling horribly into this hole.
He looks to his new companions in this alternative ship.
And listen, maybe we should talk or do we swap information?
As long as you let go of our ship and let us go back to our business, everything will be fine.
There was a Cresor crack that it was attracted to.
They feed on Cresor, you see.
I suppose you don't really care.
Oh, we're not going to do anything.
Yes, of course.
We're not pirates or anything.
We were trying to hurt you.
We were trying to save you.
In fact, what you're talking about does interest me.
These guys, they feed on the Cres and they can do this whenever they want.
And he points at that little flame effect of the ones that are still caught on the ship there.
Yeah, yeah.
They even glow at night.
They're quite intimidating.
Oh, you were probably running from that,
or at least you came across that stampede, huh?
We cut through it to get to you.
Yeah, yeah.
That tends to happen when the conflagrant swarms get out loose.
They tend to stay in outposts,
and that's what keeps, you know,
the worst of the creatures to invade local orchards and such.
Right, keeps you guys safe
and gives off a pretty good image to anybody trying to fight.
with you, right? Kaza points to that tinier outrigger that they've brought with them, the decoy.
He goes, how many of those guys do you think it would take to, you know, blanket a ship like that?
The ship seems of a similar size to their ship and says a couple hundred, probably about half
is half of the amount that we're trying to bring in.
And how much would that go for in your line of?
to work.
Well, considering that you did leave a dent in our ship and all the trouble,
uh, we could come up with something.
You got anything valuable?
Sure.
I got something valuable.
How's a pound of flesh?
Uh, and from that miring, whirling, uh, body that is now so sickly, uh, to look at,
he reaches in and he pulls free from the wound.
that has now exposed his skull a little,
that statue of David underneath.
He takes off a chunk of his head.
And in his hand,
this living plasmid cell
almost starts to reach out to Papa Keza
for as long as he can.
But he reaches in and pulls out a jar from his side,
jars it, cans it, and offers it up.
This is one of the most rare materials in the world
because you can only get it from a living Kesa.
And not many are willing to trade.
But, you know, the handy thing is your ship kind of took this out of my brain.
So how about you give me the hundred or so I need,
and I'll trade you this living flesh and a little story I have about the way things are happening over at Red Crown
and this obelisk they got.
Stories are interesting.
A genuine
Ketra flesh is interesting too.
Mind if we board your ship
and maybe see what other cargo options you have?
We're going to need something to repair this.
You're just in time for lunch?
How do you like fish?
And he's going to like
help them pull up fully
to the side of the godsinger,
expose out the docking system
and give them the actual sailors welcome.
as friends and not burning survivors.
The sailors joined the deck of the Godsinger
and go down into the cargo area.
They see some of the metallic chrome sighting that you have
and they point it out and they say,
let us have that chrome sighting.
That'll make a good repair for our ship
and everything else you've offered
and we'll consider us even.
Let me just ask my crewmates here
make sure they're okay with it.
And then I think we have a deal.
By the by, while you're waiting, have some food.
And he instructs our junior member, the Dragonfly,
to assist in passing out some plates and everything
and having a little potluck while he goes
and tries to find Bebo and Zinn.
The second that he gets out of the comfort
of the cargo area with the others though,
he does sort of like half step nearly fall over.
And a lot of his ooze,
starts to slough off of him as he took such a bad hit to his fucking head.
He's playing off a concussion now as he climbs up the stairs to the others.
I would have run off to make sure that my guest didn't.
Once again, hopefully he's not dead.
All right.
Bia would have followed with curiosity at what Zinn had said,
so he'll wander back up to see what's going on topside.
Keza stumbles into the doorway and finds you both there,
and he sort of slumps up against it.
It has the stowaway.
He comes stumbling into the room, hands on the walls.
I was like, what the hell is going on in this ship?
I just kind of point directly at Kresa.
Oh, good.
Negotiation right now.
Mibo, Zinn, are we fine giving away chrome siding, a piece of my brain,
and a little bit of information on what we found at the obelisk in the red crown?
For what?
And Keza, like, sort of freezes for a moment,
stares at the floor, and his skin is still sickly,
sort of dancing across his face.
And then he snaps back into real, what'd you say?
Huh?
Oh, yeah, yeah, sorry.
Brains fucking, whoa.
Yeah, flame, not real.
It's bugs.
Bugs like your little dragonfly.
And there are smart little shits,
and they look just,
like fire. And so I had an idea.
As you're talking, Bebo usually tracks what you're saying, where your movements of the
insides of your body are sloughing around. And he's just finding it really hard to follow both
what you're saying and the movements of your insides right now. And so you kind of just see
him rotating, landing back on his heels, and it looks like he might be sick. Uh, what?
Shut all 50 of your mouth, because you're about to puke it.
how good this fucking idea is, okay?
It's his faces starting to move across the ooze now.
Because you don't get it, Zinn.
You don't get it.
It's so fucking good that we have to spend this much, okay?
My brain, the chrome, and you need to have a seat.
Okay.
And I sit next to the guy who has been tossed around this fucking room,
and I just kind of look at him.
What's up?
After that exchange, Bebo projectile vomits at both of your feet.
Just all of, like, the things he's eaten recently,
plus some mildewy slime just comes out.
And he's like, oh.
You couldn't have done that in the hallway.
Keza, without wanting to, starts to suck it up through his feet.
He picks his feet up, like, no, no.
Lee, the new member of the ship is just like,
I don't know what the hell's going on, but I am curious to hear what this Ketra's plan is.
We take the decoy and we place it out there and we put the bugs on it.
So it looks like it's on fire.
It's the perfect decoy, right?
It's a wreck that's just ripe for taking.
We make sure the cargoes out in front.
Then we're waiting on the godsinger.
One of us.
And then Kesa looks just so barely at Lee, sort of a hatching a place.
plan for later, maybe.
One of us, he comes back to everybody, is waiting on that decoy.
We're all on the godsinger, and then whip, bang, kill, done, Captain Ogie or whatever the fuck his name is, dead, alive, and we take him back.
Wait, you're, you, you're all after the happy eater?
Captain Oreck, that's his name.
Yes!
And we're gonna eat them.
What?
Yeah.
He says hiccuping and like a little sputum comes out.
Okay, please stop throwing up in my room.
Like immediately, Zend, began cleaning up as soon as you threw up.
Lee, you know about the happy eater and the captain.
Does that seem like something that would entice him?
Yeah, I know about the happy eater.
I, uh, I was, I was a, uh, a sailor a boy.
If you know anything about fire, I think most things run away from it.
I don't know if it would necessarily attract Captain Oric, especially in his current state.
If he goes away from it, he goes to it, I don't really give a shit.
He's doing something in the direction.
Meaning that maybe we can use it to our advantage.
What do we think?
Please, Lee, elaborate on the captain's condition.
Where do I start?
Well...
It all started a couple of weeks ago.
Captain Orrick was his normal surly self, and then something changed in him.
He got this thing on the back of his neck, a kind of weird growth.
He stopped being so mean and he started being kind of friendly honestly and I knew there
was something wrong, but the rest of the crew didn't really seem to mind it so much.
They kind of liked his change in personality.
But that's when I saw it.
Down in the cargo bay, there was something growing down there, big, with lots of teeth and eyes and mouths and tentacles.
And, well, I just, I did the only thing that made sense.
And I jumped on the first outrider that nobody was looking, and I fled, hoping to get back to Red Crown to warn them about what happened.
But, well, I got lost.
And before I left, they were pretty eager to capture.
to capture any ship they could.
They were saying something about wanting four total.
That was the last thing I heard before I left.
Okay, it seems like we went right by the monster in the hull of the ship very quickly there.
Yeah, there's a monster in the hole of the Happy Eater.
Do you happen to get a look at the cargo hold on the way out of that monster?
Does this have anything to do with the Brain Pearl?
Or were we completely off our fucking rocker?
Brain Pearl?
You mean what was in the ship?
Hip Manifest? That was just cargo.
Bebo kind of holds up his hands a little bit and he's like,
does this mean the brain pearl is a free for consumption?
Well, I'm worried it might give you the tumor.
Ah, well, did you, did you see what the growth looked like?
Like a, like a, like a, like a big throbbing pimple on the back of his neck.
Huge, I mean, like, like, like a big, like a big grapefruit.
Or a mango?
Or a mango, I guess, yeah.
He immediately looks at Zinn.
Yeah, because it does the same.
It's the most nonchalant you've seen.
Zend just goes...
Captain Zango steps into the room and says,
I've got four or five crew who are eating all of our food.
What are we doing with them?
What are we thinking?
We want these fireflies?
I think it could be a good idea.
Positioning might help us.
I mean, look at what the...
fire got us to do. If we think about it, now that we know how Lee thinks I'll react,
you know, it could be really useful. I'm going to walk all of us back down to the cargo
hold, talk with that other crew. The five individuals of the crew are enjoying basically the
last bits of the Camellia Cuda barbecue and they see you. Ah, hello, this was delicious, thanks.
Yeah, yeah, you know, that it's that person.
Sear takes a lot of work. So we're looking to give over to you everything that we've asked, but is there any way we could talk about this Chrome siding? Can't I talk you down a little bit? I mean, I did save you from a certain death over that pit over there.
Yeah, you saved us after capturing us and dragging us to it. Uh, kind of feels like you owe us one. Not to mention you want to take about half of our conflagrant swarm.
Well, I guess we'll call it even then.
I'll give the siding, the whisper, and the flash.
Deal, and one of them puts out their hand to shake.
I put out my hand to shake.
They begin the process of taking the cargo,
this chrome siding that you were given from Red Crown,
and little by little, move it onto their ship,
all the while the godsinger hanging just off the edge of a huge rift.
about an hour passes
and they say
let us go
let the winch off us
and we'll take you back over
to the swarm
and we'll show you how to collect them
Bebo hears that
he kind of sidles up
and he's like
how good is your word
our word is our worth
what do you mean
it's as good as it can be
sometimes out here
people break
sometimes out here
people change
can we trust you
The seemingly captain of the crew, an ardent man, says,
If it makes you feel better, I'll stay on your ship,
while my men take us over to the conflagrant swarm.
It does make me feel better. Thank you. I appreciate the gesture.
We're simple folk here on the Meseraya. You can trust us.
We've come from Red Crown. There's a lot of simplicity there too,
and it usually involves loss of limb.
Yeah, yeah, that's why we're out here instead of on there.
All right then.
We'll shake on it, he says, mimicking what he saw Kazad do earlier,
and like six limbs come up, and not all of them even have fingers yet.
It's just like blobs of mushroom.
Yeah, he's hesitant, but he squeezes one of them.
Okay.
And then he kind of looks over at Zinn, and he's like, I'm captaining.
Zinn, who has gotten a piece of fruit and is now feeding the penguin.
pod. Then he just nods and just goes, good job. And you can see like his other head goes away from a firearm.
He was prepared to fully shoot that guy. The god singer, along with your new shipmate friends,
pulls away from the rift and returns in the direction that you had escaped. Now red crown,
its silhouette ahead of you instead of behind you. You return to this
wild flame, this conflagrant swarm, and they are sitting on and around the canopy of a single iron
root. As you pull up closer, you can see that the iron root has exploded from the inside,
the top of it, and much of its canopy has erupted outward, and where there are not swarms,
you can see bits of that crezer, that black iridescent goo, that you know a single touch could,
poison you, could affect you in some way.
You've heard of the tales of wild sailors who have spent too much time around Krezor.
But you see the swarm eating and clamoring around this black Krezer.
The captain of the ship who is aboard with you.
He introduces himself as Uto.
And he says, yeah, the trouble isn't so much collecting them.
They're quite docile.
I don't even think they can bite.
you. The problem is, is they love Cresor. And so even if you shove a bunch on your ship,
well, they'll just crawl off and fly away if there's not any Cresor to eat. How do you get around it?
How do you keep Cres on board without getting yourself harmed? What's your move?
Well, we have a couple of suits that we use to kind of protect us from the Cresor. And then we
slop a bunch of it into as many buckets as we can and keep it on the deck of the ship. And
usually that they'll follow us just about anywhere
as long as we've got the Cresor.
You think with our negotiation
you could hand in a barrel
just to send us on our way?
We'll get you a barrel and a suit
just because I heard your plan
and it sounds just crazy enough to be interesting.
Now we love some encouragement like that.
You know, that's kind of the motto of our ship,
Vivo says, piping up from Caza's ankle.
the captain's is just crazy enough to be interesting.
That'd be a good ship name, actually.
After some time, one of the crew members does in fact bring this kind of heavy canvas suit.
It seems like it's big enough to fit Bebo, and that's about it.
There's a big kind of glass dome, almost like a fishbow that has been attached to the head of it.
But they show that just any bucket, any kind of container will,
do. The trouble is, is
you've got to go down and they point in the
direction of this big slick of black
crezer that a couple
of conflagrant swarms are
munching on. All right,
Bebo, it looks like
you get to mine some
crez for the first time in your life.
