Hey everyone, Sergio here with a new update on May Day's Wild Sea campaign.
I finally did it.
I've gone and released the first draft of my Rivenwake supplement.
It's absolutely not finished, but I think it's time.
Time for other eyes to read it, poke at it, tell me what works, and maybe help me improve it for the next draft.
For me, the Wild Sea and its supplements are at their best when they inspire.
when something you read makes you want to run a game immediately.
So that's my hope.
At the very least that this draft gets you excited for our upcoming campaign,
and at best fuels your inspiration for your next Wild Sea game.
I tried my best to follow the formatting and style of the official Wild Sea books,
so hopefully it's intuitive and easy to navigate.
The first two major territories are covered, that's the Meseraya and Fangorn,
and if all goes according to plan, the last big territory, Raggedwood, will be fleshed out by the time we start releasing campaign episodes in the new year.
If you played in my Wild Sea Discord series at the start of the year, you'll probably catch a few nods to those games, including a couple of choice quotes that I just had to sneak in.
The May Day Discord was a big influence on the game, so I had to give them credit on the first page.
I would genuinely love your eyes on this.
What from the supplement sparks your imagination?
What feels thin?
What deserves expansion in your eyes?
It means a lot to have a community that I can bounce ideas off of,
and I'm grateful for everyone who takes the time to read it.
One nice side effect of all this writing is,
I finally feel at home in Rivenwake.
I've run its cultures and territories through my head
and at my table so many times this year.
I feel confident running it in the style that Felix Isaacs is encouraging me to,
which is light prep, heavy player input,
an absolute trust in the story emerging at the table.
Patrons already know this,
but at the top of the week,
we released the theme song for the upcoming campaign.
You can listen to it by joining our Patreon at the $5 level.
I've been working on it since early this year,
and it felt like the perfect end of year surprise to build some hype.
While recording the song,
I filmed some behind-the-scenes clips
so you can now watch the whole process come together.
Here at May Day, we love creating custom title sequences for our shows, and I was inspired to create an original theme song or tree shanty for the wild sea.
While searching for inspiration, I stumbled across Stan Rogers' Northwest Passage.
Stan was a Canadian folk singer-songwriter, and one of his most famous songs, Northwest Passage, was inspired by his fascination with the early Arctic explorers, who searched for a sea route through the Canadian Arctic.
to connect the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
It seemed perfectly suited to adapt into a tree shanty,
only instead of traversing the land, it's the verdancy.
The nostalgia hits hard with the song,
and with a little lyrical tweaking,
it became very wild sea appropriate.
That whole idea of reminiscing on the hardships of being a wild sailor,
but still pushing on to one more adventure,
just fit beautifully.
I sang the melody and a few harmonies,
and Lev lent their incredible voice as well.
You can hear them in the highest harmony.
The guy tickling the keys is my good friend Kyle Moore.
He scored music for Godzilla King of the Cosmos with me,
and I really love working with him
because he can translate what I'm thinking into the amazing music.
The guy singing here is Sean Carney,
who added more harmonies and mixed and mastered the track.
Together, he and Kyle helped bring the verses melody
into a full-blown call-to-adventure theme.
We knocked it out in one afternoon,
and honestly, I'm really proud of what we made.
Now, there's still the task of editing
a worthy opening credit sequence over the music,
but I'm hoping to have that done in time for the show's release,
and you better believe that patrons will get a first look at it.
Speaking of, I'm sure many of you are wondering now,
after four journal entries,
when can you finally see the campaign?
May Day is taking a holiday break.
It's well-deserved,
and we won't be recording as a full group until the new year.
But the more that I thought about it,
the more I realized maybe this campaign will shine brightest
as a series of smaller tables instead of one big mega crew.
This will allow me to invite friends of the show that we've had on before
and make more diverse tables.
If there are further delays, I can always pivot and run these shorter sessions
while still getting stuff out there for you to enjoy.
My hope is to have episodes out by the end,
of February 2026.
Exploring Rivenwake through the different ships and their crews, rather than just one,
will give the whole story a more sprawling lived-in feel.
It's a little bit like what critical role is doing with their fourth campaign, but I'm not
sure if we're going to end up having every single person that ever plays at the same table.
We'll see about that.
But for now, the intention is to explore the reach in a more segmented way.
Running shorter arcs with different crews should let us show you.
more of Rivenwake, not less. And that's it for now. Take a look at the Rivenwake supplement
and give me your thoughts. Thanks for watching, thanks for reading the supplement, and thanks for
being part of this ride. Until then, enjoy the holidays, travel safe, and I'll catch you
on the Lignan Tide.
