Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello, Wildlings, and welcome to my fifth and probably final public Firefly Journal. I'm Sergio and I've got a lot of fun things to talk about. The first campaign of the Wild Sea is officially in the can, and as you're watching this, I'm putting the finishing touches on its March release. I cannot wait for you to see it. I believe we pulled out all the stops for this one, and it may be my most ambitious project today. I've titled this first campaign, The Happy Eater.
Starting point is 00:00:34 And I know it'll all make sense once you watch it. As I mentioned in my last journal, we now have an original theme song, and I've brought in a professional graphic designer to help me craft a proper opening credit sequence. It's all coming together. And in case you missed it, I was incredibly lucky to collaborate with Omer Can Cyrrit. I really hope I'm pronouncing his name correctly. he's the original character designer for the Wild Sea who illustrated our Wild Sailor portraits.
Starting point is 00:01:04 That alone still feels surreal to say out loud. My hope is that all this extra work will really help make the show feel like a true love letter to the Wild Sea. So, what was it like to run the first campaign? Well, I invited Caleb from Mayday to join me, along with Allison from Insight Checked, and Daryl Dorsey from the fan.
Starting point is 00:01:26 gang podcast. The last two are veteran guests and all three of them were part of my Godzilla King of the Cosmos series. In that game, we used Beam Saber, which is based on Forged in the Dark. So they already had a foundation that translated beautifully into the Wild Sea. This 4D roleplay meant that we needed to have a thorough session zero, where we worked out how to signal the mechanics narratively, how aspects could be described without just reading them off the character sheet, and how we'd handle cuts and complications without stepping out of character. You'll see our session zero when it is released on March 18th. It's an insightful look at how we built the foundation of our game and fleshed out the crew
Starting point is 00:02:11 of the Godsinger, a hauling vessel whose crew is looking for one last big payoff. This campaign features a few settlements and regions of Rivenwake, the original reach I designed with our patrons that haven't been seen before, including the volcanic island of Red Crown, much of the Mesiraya and Ragged Wood. I love that every game I've played in RivenWake reveals a new part of the world to both myself and my players, and I can't wait for you to see it too. We ran four sessions, and by the second one I really felt like we were finally in sync, staying in character and not needing to break to discuss mechanics.
Starting point is 00:02:50 And after editing it, I don't think us avoiding talking about the mechanics makes it harder to follow. In fact, quite the opposite. Using graphics and sound cues and deprioritizing the mechanics, I think both veterans of the Wild Sea and new folks alike will be able to follow along and enjoy the show. In this adventure, we managed to pack in some classic Wild Sea hazards and a new hazard with ominous allusions to the larger story at play. Because remember, the point of all these seemingly disparate mini-campaigns is to tie them all together in a larger story about an incoming threat to Rivenwake. All in all, I think you're in store for a true Wild Sea adventure. Now, let's talk about the release schedule.
Starting point is 00:03:36 Because producing social media materials and promotional content takes significant time, and promoting our shows while also producing them has always been a constant challenge for May Day, I've decided to do things a little differently for the Wild Sea. I'm going to release the full series on Patreon first. That means patrons at any tier get early access to the complete series, entirely ad-free. I'm calling the run Wild Sea Wednesdays. As I said earlier on March 18th, I'll release Session Zero. After that, a new episode every Wednesday.
Starting point is 00:04:14 As always, I'll have both the podcast and video versions available. though I highly recommend watching the video version for the full experience. And episodes will run about an hour each. In addition, every two episodes all release a Patreon exclusive Firefly Journal, where I will go deeper, breaking down session decisions, engagement techniques, editing choices, and post-session talks with the cast. Once patrons have had access to the full ad-free run, we'll begin releasing the public version in May.
Starting point is 00:04:47 Those episodes will include ad breaks to promote our sponsor, MythWorks, and the partners who help bring this project to life. And of course, anyone watching the public versions can join Patreon at any time for the ad-free versions and bonus content. I understand not everyone is able to support financially, and that's okay. But I hope when you see the final product, you'll understand exactly where that support goes. Every bit of it directly increases the production value and helps make something we can all be proud of. Pardon the pun, but it is wild to think that this has been a year and a half in the making. Since my first journal, I've run over a dozen sessions with patrons while developing Rivenwake, refining those ideas, and building towards this moment.
Starting point is 00:05:33 And now, it's finally time to share it. If you want to watch the entire series as soon as possible, be sure to join us at patreon.com forward slash mayday RP. Otherwise, I'll catch you on the Lingnan, tied in May.
