Starting point is 00:00:03 I have a lot of mixed feelings about astrology, meaning it exists as a field of inquiry. There is a personality test that is based on astrology and zodiac symbols. And I would like to take it. Will you please give it to me? I would love to. Okay. There's four tendencies. I came up with the tendency to be the obligor.
Starting point is 00:00:23 The kind of universal message of the obligor is you can count on me. And I'm counting on you to count on me. Obligers meet outer expectations but struggle to meet inner expectations Would you say that that's true about me? Yeah. Me too. Of all the tendencies,
Starting point is 00:00:41 obligers are the biggest group. What do I not like about that? You don't like to be part of the group. You want to be special. True that. I'm not saying you're basic. This is the narcissistic personality inventory. All right, I'm ready.
Starting point is 00:00:58 I would do anything on a dare. I tend to be fairly cautious. No, I don't do. When people compliment me, I sometimes get embarrassed. I always get embarrassed. The thought of ruling the world frightens the hell out of me. I can usually talk my way out of anything. I try to accept the consequences of my behavior.
Starting point is 00:01:14 I usually deserve it. I prefer to blend in with the crowd. No. I tend to like to be the center of attention. Oh, no, I'd rather blend in. I don't want to be the center of it. I don't want to be the center. I don't want to...
Starting point is 00:01:30 My body. is nothing special, I like to look at my body. I try not to show off. I usually show off if I get a chance. Oh, if I get a chance, I have a good comedian. I like to make you laugh. I like to look at myself in a mirror. We'll pick the other one.
Starting point is 00:01:50 I'd rather eat toads for breakfast. Side note, there was an article, I think from like the National Parks Association that was asking people to please stop licking the to licking. I almost sensual. you that because the look on the toad's face was this. And I literally was going to send it to you and be like,
Starting point is 00:02:10 why are you looking in the camera like that? Because it was so cute. But then it was like 4 in the morning. And I was like, he's going to be like, why were you up at 4 in the morning looking at pictures of hallucinogenic toads? Your results for the narcissistic personality inventory. Beiotics breakdown.
Starting point is 00:02:28 She's going to break it down for you. Because you know she knows a thing or two. So now she's going to break down. So break down. She's going to break it down. Hi, I'm I. I'm Biolic. Welcome to my breakdown.
Starting point is 00:02:41 This is the place where we break things down so you don't have to. Special episode today. I'm still eating my dinner. What we're going to do is we're going to do a variety of different things, different psychology tests, different exercises,
Starting point is 00:02:53 a little bit of a workshop of sorts. Maybe we'll get to know each other. We'll ask ourselves the 15 questions to see if you're best friends. Jonathan, you chipped your tooth. Look. You. Let's just get right into it.
Starting point is 00:03:09 You chipped your tooth. I did. You don't know how it happened. First of all, I had no idea how it happened. And you were very upset about it. I just woke up with a chipped tooth. That's what happens when you got to be 40 years old and beyond. You just wake up and you have issues that you have no idea where they came from.
Starting point is 00:03:23 Forget about issues. You wake up and a part of your tooth is missing. It's just gone. Now, I'd like to say that when you showed me that you had a chipped tooth, what was my reaction? It wasn't a significant. Like, it was a very small chip. And if I knew what I know now, I would have just left it. Okay, so my reaction was like, oh, that's weird.
Starting point is 00:03:44 Yeah, that happened sometimes. And you seem to astounded by that. Like, what do you mean? I was like, yeah, it happens sometimes. You can get it. You know, it's probably too big. It was too big to be filed down. Or you can, like, have it, whatever.
Starting point is 00:03:55 They can seal it. Whatever. Jonathan's level of... I got a bond. Let's just get to it. I got a bond. No, no, no. I think it's important for people to know
Starting point is 00:04:05 what your reaction to just having the chip tooth. I'm the neuroscientist in the room and there's a reason I'm laying this foundation. I'm going to let you lay the foundation, but I am going to go on the record and say just because you say, I am the neuroscientist doesn't make
Starting point is 00:04:22 every one of your perceptions true. The fact is, the reason I'm pointing out that I'm a neuroscientist is there's a neuroscientific explanation for what you're experiencing right now. So let the person who wants to get give a neuroscientific explanation. This is why I'm here. I'm all about your science.
Starting point is 00:04:39 Just keep chewing with your tooth that makes you mad. So the reason that I brought up that I'm a neuroscientist is because you have... Some people don't know and you want to be credentialed. I don't think there's anyone who doesn't know, so I'll never bring it up again. I would say you were a level of upset that I perceived as... Oh, it was a stronger reaction than... But you don't... This is not a judgment.
Starting point is 00:05:02 I'm just saying you had a stronger reaction than I expected. That's not a judgment. I'm not saying it's wrong. I was like, oh, this is a thing. I remember waking up, realizing the tooth was chipped, and being like perplexed, like, trying to rack my brain to understand, like, when did that happen and how did I not, like, have a memory of it happening? Right.
Starting point is 00:05:26 So it was more of a befuddlement. Right. And I think I brought that to you as like, this is a mystery of the universe that we are never going to solve. And so like I racked my brain a little bit about like when would that have happened. Great. Trying to recall a time that I would have used my teeth inappropriately to cause such a chipping. You made a decision to get a bond. I thought that's what you do. You chip a tooth. You get a fixed. It feels very different. My chewing is different. My tongue is like rubbing against this little lip at the back of the tooth where the bond hits the tooth. I feel like it's not
Starting point is 00:06:02 totally even, even though it looks totally even in the mirror. And so like, I'm trying to get used to like, where do I chew my food properly? Great. Okay. So don't like it. Okay. So let's pause there. You said some really important things. And one is that, um, um, you don't, you don't like how it feels. I dislike how it feels. Right. So it feels really different. So we have a, I was ready to call the dentist and say, please take this thing off. I'd rather have a chip. So you said that you're, you're biting differently. Yeah. When I bite down, I feel like I, my teeth hit the, the, the, the bond before they hit the other side and it feels totally kitty wonkis. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:36 And I just, kitty wonkis? All off kilter. Wow. So here's the, here's the story. Yeah. Did you damage your jaw at any time related to this tooth? No. Okay, I'm just checking.
Starting point is 00:06:48 Hold on. Not that I'm aware of. Have you had any other jaw injuries? In my lifetime? No. Recently. No. No.
Starting point is 00:06:56 Do you know how biting down works? Yes. Okay. So let's just say that nothing has changed about your bite per se And I'd like to point out the chip was very small When I bite down right now I think there's a tiny gap
Starting point is 00:07:15 Between the two teeth that do not have the bond The lower and the upper and the tooth that does have the bond I'm trying to wear down the bond a little bit so that it gets even So what we're talking about just to kind of like you know talk this through what we're talking about is that I don't know how many millimeters, you know, this bond was. What most likely has occurred is let's take the information we know. And I'm going into this detail because it can be applied to many, many experiences that we have somatically.
Starting point is 00:07:46 And it can also be applied to many experiences that we have emotionally, especially things with the word that we use is novelty. What you're describing is a novel situation. Some people might say, well, you had that tooth for your whole life and like the chip was so small. But given the level of, I don't want to use the word preoccupation, but I'm going to be gentle. Given the level of attention that you paid to it, the level of importance that you placed on it and the level of concern about it, it is likely that that system that is elevated, meaning vigilant. You're vigilant about that tooth now, especially. I mean, imagine if you had an injury, how much more vigilant, you know, if you had a remembered event, how much more vigilant you would be about it. we have a situation with elevated, you know, an elevated baseline, a lot of attention,
Starting point is 00:08:35 a lot of thinking, because you're a highly thinking person. And you gave a lot of thought to it, right? You gave a lot of thought to it when it happened, when you decided to get the bonding, when you got the bonding, and now after, right? So I just, to kind of close out this initial assessment, we have a system that's elevated. We have a lot of attention and attending to, you know, we have a lot of attending to this. And we then have a change and a change that is cosmetic, meaning you can see that it happened, right? But also there, you are a person who's extremely somatically tuned in. So your perception of that tiny bonding may in fact be more acute than other people's. So some people when they grow a beard are very very,
Starting point is 00:09:27 very, very bothered by the sensations that it brings. Some people are... If you let it grow long enough, you get over that phase. For some people, but, you know, there are individuals on the spectrum who can't really get used to certain sensations on their body. Because it's... Are you diagnosing me on the spectrum? It is technically completely unnatural for us to wear clothing, like, I mean, to the level
Starting point is 00:09:51 that we do. But part of the adaptability of the nervous system is to not have... have us constantly being like, I'm wearing a shirt, I'm wearing a shirt. So when we look at people who are excessively fidgety, especially kids, when you look at kids who are really, really fidgety, kids who can't sit still, kids who are cranky and sometimes we don't know why, even babies, babies that seem colloquy. Like, there are so much we don't know about the individual kind of variability, especially of nonverbal babies or of kids or of toddlers. There are people who are on a spectrum of somatic sensitivity. Would I expect those people to be more sensitive to bonding,
Starting point is 00:10:33 you know, a change in the tooth like that? Of course, I'm not saying you're on the spectrum. I mean, you may be, but not because of this. What I'm saying is there's a full range of experiences and, you know, time heals all wounds. This is something that you will likely, the word is attenuate. You will attenuate to this. What are some of the things you think you can do to better attenuate or to attenuate faster. I don't know, but what I hear is that we should give it a week. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:03 Do you think it's going to take longer than a week to attenuate? If you were to take 100 people and have this experience happen, even 100 sensitive people, do I think that within a week you would attenuate? Absolutely. However, the people that are, we're going to say,
Starting point is 00:11:19 maybe less likely to attenuate quickly would be people who, and I'm not saying this is you. People who perseverate, meaning people who are going to ruminate on it, people who are going to excessively touch it, people who are going to test it. Like, what if I eat this? What if I eat a peanut? How about hard foods? What about squishy foods?
Starting point is 00:11:40 Right? Those are some of the things. So in order to sort of like attenuate two things. And this is not to say that we shouldn't pay attention to our bodies. I'm not telling you to ignore a painful stimulus. I'm not asking you to ignore a noxious stimulus. I'm not asking you to ignore the smell of carbon. I guess it doesn't have odor.
Starting point is 00:11:59 I'm not asking you to ignore the smell of gas coming out. I'm saying that what you did is a reasonable. There's a shift. There's a reasonable, healthy decision you made with a dentist that you trust, who is a nice person. And yes, there's a certain amount of kind of turning it over. But I'm literally speaking from personal experience. Like, I can sit on a hurt feeling.
Starting point is 00:12:21 I can sit on a boo-boo. You know, like I can think about, I'm allergic to me. mosquitoes, mosquito bites. Like, I can spend all my time obsessing about it and trying to find the right cream and the right, I mean, you've seen it. But the more we can have ways to lower that baseline in the first place and increasingly, you know, stack the chips in our favor for attenuating, you know, if you have other anxiety, that's going to just add.
Starting point is 00:12:47 The cup is already full if we start, you know, at an elevated place. So any kind of stimulus that's upsetting is going to feel more. upsetting. And it's not that you're behaving like a child. It's that we are still children. You know, we still are hungry, angry, lonely, and tired. Did I think today, how good would this feel if I just went in and got it pulled off? Then I thought, is it really hard to pull it off? It's very strong. And it's meant to be bitten down on like a real tooth. So clearly, whatever they make it out of is extremely durable. Then I thought, hmm, if I did want to get it taken off and I made an appointment with this very fine gentleman to get it taken off,
Starting point is 00:13:26 what would the process be? Is there like an undo type of substance that they just like pour on it? You just do command Z. Then I thought, did he shave it down and make the chip worse? And then like, oh, no, I've made a choice to put it back on
Starting point is 00:13:41 and now there's no going back. All of that did cross my mind. And then I was like, you know what? I'm going to attenuate. No, I'm not how it works. So I'm going to give this a couple. weeks and see if it still really bothers me. But if it does really bother me in two weeks,
Starting point is 00:13:58 I am going to investigate. Because look, I think I'm going to look pretty good with a chip. My Ambialx breakdown is supported by superpower. We all know the feeling of leaving a doctor's office and kind of feeling like we didn't get anything out of the experience that was useful. Maybe they're like, you're fine. Drink more water.
Starting point is 00:14:15 There's no real data. There's no game plan. This has happened to me many, many times, especially on the perimenopause journey. That's why we're fascinated by what Superpower is doing. They send a licensed professional to your home or you can visit a nearby lab. One simple blood draw with over 100 biomarkers. Use the code break at checkout for $20 off your membership. And after you sign up, they'll ask how you heard about them. Make sure to mention my ambiotics breakdown to help support the show. Just going to roll with it. Here's the thing.
Starting point is 00:15:53 This is not unusual, I think, for your fantastic personality. I like to know what the options are. If you were to ask someone how long it takes to mend a broken heart, most wizened older folks will say, like, it takes time. And that's true. The way you don't mend a broken heart is to write that person poems, is to follow them on Instagram still, is to look them up on the inner webs,
Starting point is 00:16:20 is to call them, is to see them, is to continue to have sex with them, is to instantly assume that you can be friends when what you really are is still in love with them. These are all things that many of us have done, sometimes all in a week. But the person who does all those things kind of still hasn't started mending that broken heart because they're having all those emotions and experience. That's still fresh. That's opening, you know, people say like it's like opening the wound or like you'll go like a week without talking to that person and then like they call and then like it feels like you're starting again essentially and yes we're all spiraling up all the time I like to believe that but there's a level of attention that you can give this tooth
Starting point is 00:17:07 for two weeks that will make you as annoyed with it in two weeks as you are today the power the power is literally yours with which how you I mean and all of ours with how we conduct ourselves to attenuate to specific stimulus. And whatever you decide, I support you. Whatever journey you're on, I support you. But there absolutely are things that we have the power to do to move these things in a direction of less, you know, annoyance, meaning it annoying us less, it bothering us less.
Starting point is 00:17:41 Would you like to make any jokes? What I hear is, this is just the way life is now and just accept it. And if you can't chew. then you know what? This is just the way life is and thinking about what the options are not only are not helpful
Starting point is 00:17:59 but it will prolong the healing process so just accept that this is the way life is you made a decision the dentist knows what's best and eventually you'll forget about it well Jonathan I appreciate you being honest about the things going on
Starting point is 00:18:19 in your mind and your mouth. And I wish for you whatever the universe, you're thinking about it and touching it right now. I am. I'm rubbing my tooth against the fact. It's horrible. Also, I love your smile. I happen to love your smile.
Starting point is 00:18:36 I'm a teeth person. Like, I really like when people have, like, cool smiles or like, I like, you know, you have, like, little fangs. Like, I like teeth. So I had gotten used to the chip. I also am having an experience of, getting used to this new you because I look at your faces a lot. And I think you look very handsome. I think it looks very nice. And my hope is that whatever, you know, resolution you come to then
Starting point is 00:19:03 leads to no strife. I love no strife. And have a little, you know, some, what do you say, off-kiltered teeth in the bottom? They're not totally straight. It's the British roots of Canada. Yeah, I accept that. I'm okay with that. You have beautiful teeth, but yes. For a little while, that chip, I was like, I could be a person that has a chip in my tooth. I'm not a leading man. I'm a side character. I'm okay with that. You're acting like you all of a sudden woke up with like the Madonna Gap in your teeth.
Starting point is 00:19:33 I was okay with that life, but I chose to try to fix it. I went down a path where I was like, you know what? Maybe perfection isn't for me is what I'm saying. And I made a wrong choice. So if anyone's out there. has seen an Instagram picture of me with the chip in my tooth, because I think I posted a couple. If they've seen a previous episode, there was a little period here.
Starting point is 00:19:58 This is an Easter egg for anyone who watches this show. Maybe you zoomed in and you were like, oh, you know what? That guy's got a chip in his tooth. Jonathan, let's move on to our next Fun and Game segment. I'd like us to take a personality quiz about the four tendencies. And this is not an advertisement for Gretchen Rubin, but Valerie is always on the hunt for things that, you know, elaborate on topics that we are interested in. And we've talked about many different kind of personality aspects. And I'm, I'm kind of digging this quiz.
Starting point is 00:20:37 You're going to score for yourself and I'm going to score for me. Are we going to score for each other? No, I'm going to score for myself. Okay, got it. Have you kept a New Year's resolution where you weren't accountable to anyone? like drinking more water or keeping a journal. The choices are like, yeah, I'm good at that. Or I'm good at that, but really whenever the time is right.
Starting point is 00:20:56 Like January 1st is too arbitrary. Or I have trouble with that. I don't really like to do it. When I'm only helping myself, I struggle or know, I hate to bind myself in any way. Which statement best describes your view about your commitments to yourself? I make a commitment to myself only if I'm convinced
Starting point is 00:21:11 it makes good sense to do it. If someone else holds me accountable, I can meet them. If no one knows but me, I struggle. That's me. I bind myself as little as possible. I take my commitments to my self. As seriously is my commitments to other people. I like to be held accountable.
Starting point is 00:21:25 At times, we feel frustrated by ourselves. Are you most likely to feel frustrated because the constant need for information exhausts me? As soon as someone expects me to do something, I don't want to do it. Oh, that's a tough person. I can take time for other people, but I can't take time for myself. Bingo. I can't take a break from my usual habit. No, I just cannot make time for myself.
Starting point is 00:21:44 When you formed a healthy habit in the past, what help you stick to it? I would help you stick to it. Pretty good at sticking to habits, even when no one else cares, a lot of research and customization. I could stick to a good habit only when I was answerable to someone else. I think that's still me. Usually I don't choose to bind myself in advance.
Starting point is 00:22:00 Yeah, okay. If people complain about your behavior, you'd be least surprised to hear them say, you stick to your good habits, ones that matter only to you, even when it's inconvenient for someone else. You ask too many questions. You're good at taking time when others ask you to do something.
Starting point is 00:22:14 You're not good at taking care of yourself. So that's, I would not be the least surprised. You only do what you want to do when you want to do it. I'm not saying I check that one, but. That's what I say about you. That is what you say about me. I check that one. That's the one you'd be least surprised to hear people say.
Starting point is 00:22:33 That's the one people would say about you the most. Probably. Got it. And people, what do you think people would mostly say about me that I can't take kind of for myself, right? Probably not, although I switch the screen. Also, I asked too many questions. Oh, you ask a lot of questions. What description suits you best? Disciplined? Keep going. Sometimes. You know, it doesn't make sense.
Starting point is 00:22:54 Ask necessary questions. Put others first. Refuses to be bossed by others. Ooh, what are you putting? I'm curious. I think asked necessary questions for me. People get frustrated me because even if they ask me to do something, I'm less likely to do it. Even if there is a person. I don't, this is not you. People get frustrated with me. I don't think this is. Yeah. Because even if they ask me to do something, I'm less likely to do it. Even if they're a boss or a client. Meaning like some people, this is not you. I don't think it's me and it's not you. But I do know people and they're lovely, intelligent, fantastic people who literally,
Starting point is 00:23:31 it's like even if it's something they want to do, if you ask them, they won't do it. It's very, I mean, it's, I can't imagine. But that's because I always put people first. Oh, so I disagree. I do what I think makes the most sense, according to my judgment, even if it means ignoring the rules or other people's expectations. Commitments to others should never be broken, but commitments to myself can be broken. I used to be a person who believe that commitments to others should never be broken.
Starting point is 00:24:01 I've gotten better, though. Like, meaning sometimes you have to break commitments, especially if it's something to yourself. So I'm going to make, I'm going to say I'm neutral there. Sometimes I won't do something I want to because someone wants me to do it. That's not me. I don't think that's us in this room. I've sometimes described myself as a people pleaser. All the time since I was two.
Starting point is 00:24:22 I don't mind breaking rules or violating convention. I often enjoy it. Tends to be me. All right. I came up with the tendency. There's four tendencies. I came up with the tendency to be the obligor. The kind of universal message of the obligor is you can count on me.
Starting point is 00:24:40 And I'm counting on you to count on me. Obligers meet outer expectations, but struggle to meet inner expectations. Would you say that that's true about me? Yeah. Me too. Of all the tendencies, obligers are the biggest group. What do I not like about that? You don't like to be part of the group.
Starting point is 00:24:58 You want to be special. True that. I'm not saying you're basic, but... The ones whom people count on the most. That's true. I'm a person that people count on. But also, it is important to me. People, they, oh, they, we.
Starting point is 00:25:15 They put a high value on meeting commitments to others, but may have trouble setting limits and meeting their commitments to themselves. Okay, I'm the obligor. Jonathan, what are you? I got the questioner. I will comply if you convince me why. Oh. Do you feel that that's true?
Starting point is 00:25:31 Yeah, I feel like I need to know what the plan is and how this is going to shake out. Otherwise, I'm pretty skeptical. Right. It says here the questioner resists outer exes. expectations, but meets inner expectations, whereas the obliger meets outer expectations and resists inner expectations. So we're kind of opposites in that sense. They teach each other a few things about the opposite way of being. All right. What else?
Starting point is 00:25:59 Questioners, question all expectations, and they respond to an expectation, only if they conclude that it makes sense. They meet only inter expectations. They're motivated by reason, fairness, which can lead to conflict when they don't have enough information. That sounds about right. Sounds about right. I like to know what the point is. So what's interesting about this quiz in particular, the other two kinds are the upholder who meets outer and inner expectations.
Starting point is 00:26:31 I think that's the best person and the one we're supposed to try and be. And then there's the rebel who resists both outer and inner expectations. This is interesting. You know, I'm very curious about these kinds of tests. because I kind of want like the one test that explains best everything. I'm a huge enneagram person, and we've kind of talked a lot about enneagram. But this is a very interesting way to think about it
Starting point is 00:26:52 in terms of inner versus outer expectations. Let's take another quiz, Jonathan. I have a lot of mixed feelings about astrology, meaning it exists as a field of inquiry. There is a personality test that is based on astrology and zodiac symbols. And I would like to take it. Will you please give it to me?
Starting point is 00:27:13 First question. Does Maim have a short attention span? Myam does have a short attention span. I agree with that. So do we agree or do we agree strongly? I think agree. Yeah, because you can't actually focus quite well. Many of us on that spectrum do.
Starting point is 00:27:30 Great. And that's okay. Ma'am is afraid of big decisions. Why do you keep putting my name? It's making me sad. It actually doesn't say making. I added that. I agree.
Starting point is 00:27:39 I agree with that. I agree. I agree. I don't strongly agree, but it's more than slight. You're pretty good at big decisions, but... But being good... Well, you're afraid of everything. We establish that.
Starting point is 00:27:49 Being good is different than being afraid. Myam is overly... Courage is being afraid and doing it anyway. Critical of herself. Oh, my gosh. Is there a... The only thing I can feel is agreement option. There's strongly agree.
Starting point is 00:28:04 I'll do that. Family is the most important thing to Ma'am. Here's what I can say, with all honesty. I do believe that family... I strongly agree that family is the most important thing. I don't believe I can always execute that. but I do, there's nothing that I would hold higher than my, my children and my family obligation. There's nothing that I, that I should hold higher than that. I'm going to say
Starting point is 00:28:27 strongly agree. I think if people would think about me, they'd be like, she's that kind of person, meaning like that's who I am. Okay. I'm not saying I do it perfectly. It's hard to earn Mime's trust. Strongly agree. Very strongly agree. I don't even trust that you're answering correctly for me, even though I'm telling you what to do. She doesn't even trust that these are the actual questions on the quiz. She thinks I'm making up the questions.
Starting point is 00:28:51 It's very hard to earn my trust. Myam has high self-esteem. That is something I strongly disagree with. I mean, like, I'd love to say even just disagree. I'm getting, I mean, I'm better than I used to be. But I would say that's a real challenge for me. Go back and listen to the Hunter-Magrady episode. Or the Kelly Clarkson.
Starting point is 00:29:18 Or the Kelly Clarkson episode. and do us a favor. Take a little screenshot, a little video recording of the mantra she tries. We would love to see it at Bialik Breakdown, tag us. I am beautiful. Your kidneys work so well. Maim loves competition.
Starting point is 00:29:36 I do. I make everything in competition. A little too much. That's strongly agree. Myam hates to spend money on unnecessary things. I strongly agree with that statement. One time. What?
Starting point is 00:29:58 I found 40 cents at the park today. All right, we're going to strongly agree. Mine wants to live a life of beauty. What does that even mean? Oh, I know what it means. What does it mean? And I want it. So some people really don't have an aesthetic inclination.
Starting point is 00:30:19 It's not a bad thing. I don't have a strong aesthetic inclination, but like this brings me joy. Like I have my little, like the three crystals that I've been liking to look at. I like pretty, like I love Christmas lights. You know, like that stirs something in me that's like, oh, that's special and nice.
Starting point is 00:30:38 So I would say that, I would say I agree. Yeah. I don't think I strongly disagree, but I don't think I, like pretty, I like pom-poms. I like, you know, jingle bell. Myam always tries to be a really, I like, these are a few of my little things.
Starting point is 00:30:52 Strongly agree. Strongly agree that Ma'am likes to be originally. I have to be so different. Myam has no patience. Oh, are you just telling me this? Or is this one of the questions? This is one of the questions. No patience?
Starting point is 00:31:07 Yeah, you have some patience. I wasn't asking you to answer for me, but thanks. I agree. Okay. It's a slightly agree because you have some patience or you have no patience? You agree. Oh, I see. I have slightly agree.
Starting point is 00:31:19 Because I think in a lot of ways, hmm, I'm very patient. All right. I surround myself with an entourage. Not so much. No, I don't like that.
Starting point is 00:31:34 I'll disagree with that for you. You have friends. You have a little cruise, but not an entourage. I don't think that's what it's saying. No, you don't have... I mean, just, Valerie, weigh in. I think what it means is, like,
Starting point is 00:31:44 am I the kind of person who, like, wants a posse? Like, wants people around me? No. So if there's a... low-mo shot of you walking down a corridor? Like a Spike Lee shot. Yeah. It's probably you turning around and dragging your children with you, not like a group of like badass women with machine guns like taking on the world. Or men. No, I would say I strongly disagree. I'm, that's, yeah. I like having people around me
Starting point is 00:32:07 that, but no, entourage to me also implies that maybe they're not kind of my deepest, closest people, but they're people that, you know. Like if you were, you know, like a rapper. Well, I was going to say, like, I mean, I'm not thinking about it. You probably wouldn't have a lot of, like, hype people being like, yeah, yeah. I don't want, I don't want that. Next question. Myam keeps things tidy. I don't think I keep things tidy.
Starting point is 00:32:31 I'd say I... No, you're pretty tidy. In certain ways, I'd say I'd slightly... If you had to say, is she tidy or not, I think you'd say no. So I'm going to say slightly disagree. Does she come in, open all the mail, leave the boxes, and leave? Yes. Right.
Starting point is 00:32:45 Does her front step always look like... she's about to move out? Yeah, slightly agree. That's what I meant. Sorry. I make sure my bed is extra comfortable. I don't even know what comfort is. You've gotten better because you used to sleep on sandpaper.
Starting point is 00:33:02 I think in general, the kind of person I am, no. No. So we'll disagree. I'm interested in the occult. Yeah, I would say I, I would say I I'd say I slightly agree. Well, I guess I agree. You agree. I think I agree. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:19 You've had a shaman over. I mean. Who hasn't? More than once. Yes, I agree. MIM multitasks. Strongly, I mean, it's a problem. Mime tends to remain in one location.
Starting point is 00:33:32 I mean, I would strongly disagree. So I would also strongly disagree because you do, like, I don't see it as, it really depends on how you interpret this question. Yeah, that's a hard one. Because you are like, if you leave your house for three days, you want to come home and be at your house. No, I don't think that's what it means, though. But, like, you hustle and bustle around a lot. No, but I think it means, like, am I a person who's constantly looking for something elsewhere, you know, and I don't think that's, you know, me.
Starting point is 00:33:58 So I would say, I, I, what is it? I tend to remain in one location. Slightly agree? Yeah, I slightly agree. Yeah. I'd enjoy a job where I travel all the time. No. Strongly disagree.
Starting point is 00:34:11 Um, yeah, no, strongly disagree. I continue until everything is perfect. No. Oh, definitely not. 80% of the way there. If I did that, nothing would get done. So strongly disagree? Yeah, I don't believe in perfect.
Starting point is 00:34:23 I like science fiction. I do like science fiction. Yeah, I agree. I am stubborn. Strongly disagree. I'm kidding, Jonathan. Strongly agree. Wow, what almost got real there.
Starting point is 00:34:39 I almost needed to take you to the hospital. I thought you were going to have an aneurism. I was very surprised you. Look, you're an actor. You fooled me for a second. Okay. Myam gets intense. Gets?
Starting point is 00:34:52 I just am. I start intense. Strongly agree. Strongly agree. My aim is impulsive. Here's the thing about that. I'm not impulsive. You built a lot of systems in to prevent you from being impulsive.
Starting point is 00:35:06 If you took those systems away. No, I think I'm spontaneous, but that's different than impulsive. Slightly disagree, disagree. I would disagree that I'm impulsive. I provide a lot of. food and drink when I host an event. Strongly agree. Uh, Mayam chooses unique hairstyles and outfits.
Starting point is 00:35:24 True. Sorry, true. Agree. Strongly agree. Oh. Unique hairstyles and outfits? I'd like to shave my head. Got it. Myam seeks sanctuary and provides that for others. Oh. I'm a sanctuary person. I'd say I strongly agree.
Starting point is 00:35:43 Okay. I rely on seeing signs to make my decisions. No, no. I'd say strongly disagree. Mm-hmm. I mean, I like signs, but I don't rely on them to, no. I've kept a dream journal. Specifically, I mean, I keep a other journal.
Starting point is 00:36:02 No, I haven't kept a dream journal specifically. Strongly disagree? Strongly disagree. I write poetry, strongly agree. Yeah. Myam can get jealous. I strongly agree. Mime keeps the peace
Starting point is 00:36:18 Is your face okay? I'm having a little twitch Do I keep the peace? No I mean I don't mean to say that You know what I'm gonna say slightly I'm gonna say disagree Because it's not like I'm like I like to not have peace But I am not afraid to like be like
Starting point is 00:36:38 I don't care if it upsets people like let's do this Let's talk it out yeah I'm like my dad like that Mime is analytical I think am I am strongly okay strongly my am is very intuitive wow your face says so many things when you don't speak I'm going to show you the face that you made when you said that sentence I'm very intuitive that's the face you made when you thought about me being intuitive for people who are only listening it's like a like a sharp pain it's a cancassore deep in the back kind of that I just realized.
Starting point is 00:37:18 And then like a, oh, it feels like a burp that's going to turn into vomit. That's the face that you just made. The thing is, is you are intuitive in your own way, but you're also highly analytical, and those two things fight each other. Here's what I think more. I think that I'm intuitive, but because I don't trust it, I don't go with it. So I would say I agree that I'm intuitive, but again, that I don't always follow through. I tell a lot of lies.
Starting point is 00:37:45 That's like, are you lying right now? No. It's a trick question. It's a trick question because if you lie to yourself and you don't know that you're lying, is it really a lie? It's like a kid's riddle. Kids love saying like, are you going to tell me a lie? Are you going to say yes right now? So does mine tell a lot of lies? No. I say disagree. Disagree? I strongly disagree. I strongly disagree. I cry often. Oh my God. Strongly agree. Strongly agree. I'm eccentric. I would say I strongly agree.
Starting point is 00:38:14 I'm well respected. Strongly agree. I'm very motivated by duty. I would say that's an agree. The caca? No. I am 12 years old. Am I motivated by, yeah, I'm very motivated by duty.
Starting point is 00:38:31 Strongly agree? Yeah, oh, yeah. I'm like an Eastern European, you know, red to clean floors on my hands and knees. People know me to be extremely adventurous. No. Oh, no. Strongly disagree.
Starting point is 00:38:44 No, no, I wouldn't say strongly disagree. Disagree. You can go on an adventure as long as it's planned thoroughly. Let's say, disagree? Disagree? I can be spontaneous as long as there's a spreadsheet about it. I make everything about me. I have no facial response whatsoever.
Starting point is 00:39:06 I'm just wanting to know what you think. I'm thinking. I'm being... You're getting real here. I can see you digging deep. Here's the thing. I know a lot of people who, in my opinion, and make everything about them.
Starting point is 00:39:24 Yeah. I don't do all those things. I definitely have... I mean, I'm not going to say I'm completely like, I never make anything about me. I try not to insert... Sorry, I'm just talking this through.
Starting point is 00:39:35 Sure. I try not to insert my experience into other people's experience. I'm going to say that I disagree. I think in general... Slightly disagree? I hear you checking. I remember the option.
Starting point is 00:39:46 Disagree. I remember my choices. I disagree. I mean... You know what? Let's disagree. The benefit of the doubt. Let's agree to slightly disagree.
Starting point is 00:39:57 Great. I'm concerned about others. I'm strongly agree. Like to the point that it's distracting. I strive for harmony. No. Disagree? I'd say I'd...
Starting point is 00:40:13 Again, it's not that I'm trying to create discord. So I'd say let's say slightly... You would just like the record to be correct. No, I think let's say slightly disagree. Because disagree sounds like I don't like things to be good. It's more that I'm not afraid if they're not, you know. I don't take things too seriously. I mean, that's the most untrue thing anyone's ever said about me.
Starting point is 00:40:32 I get angry easily. Hondo. I crave success. We'll just put strongly agree. Oh, hold on, please. Oh, that was a question? Huh. I don't think I crave success.
Starting point is 00:40:53 I crave recognition. I mean, and to me, those are. Well, for me, I think of it much more personally. Like,
Starting point is 00:41:01 my biggest success is like, I wanted to be a married person, you know, with children and never get divorced. That's just a measure of success. I don't think it's external success. It's like, I want to be good at the things that I...
Starting point is 00:41:14 So there's some people who don't want to be good at anything? I think they're just like whatever it is. To me, I think of success as like material success. Huh. Well, I already... answered in the redo last question button isn't working.
Starting point is 00:41:27 This is the personality quiz for who Jonathan thinks Miami is. Just two of them. I require constant mental stimulation. I mean, I'd say I agree. Do you like to... You've got a meditative practice now. And I really, I do like... I do like quiet.
Starting point is 00:41:47 I mean, it's very hard for me. Like, this is like they give people drugs for the things that are in this arena for me. Like, what is the, say it again? Constant mental stimulation. You are often. I say agree. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:59 I mean, I don't want it to be that way, but I do need a lot of it. I slightly agree. Last couple, I show off. You don't like to show. No, we don't like to. Strongly disagree. Yeah, I don't want that. I mean, sometimes maybe I can't help it.
Starting point is 00:42:14 Today at work, we were talking about, you know, words that are spelled the same, but sound different, like lives and lives. And then we were talking about words that are spelled differently, but sound the same, like, through a... That's your favorite game. It's my favorite game. But I knew that, I think one's called a homophone. How my name my homephone, right? Oh, well, so then there's...
Starting point is 00:42:35 At work, I realize that I'm that asshole because people were like, I think we found a word that Maim doesn't know. We found a word she doesn't know. And I was like, oh, but I want to know it. But also I don't want to know it because I don't want people to think that I'm a person who knows everything or thinks that I know everything. It was a sad thing. You definitely like to tell people when you know something.
Starting point is 00:42:51 All right. Am I a show off? you just like to make the record straight. I just like to show people how amazing I am. No. It's not about how amazing you are. You're like... So then I think to me that's, to me, show off is different.
Starting point is 00:43:04 Like I... No, it's not a crave attention. Like, that's why I say, the only way to describe it is like, there is sort of an overall balance in the universe and you are trying to ensure that it doesn't tip into things being incorrect. It's from a very sick place. It's not from a positive, like, I'm amazing. So don't, you know.
Starting point is 00:43:22 Okay, go ahead. It's very disturbed. I can't stay in one place. I'd say I strongly agree. Score summary. The ZAPS measures a score for each zodiac sign from zero to 20. The higher your score, the more you agreed with the items that users have voted as representative of that sign. What?
Starting point is 00:43:47 What sign did you have the highest? I'm so excited about this. Capricorn was your high. highest. Wow. At a 20. It's zero to 20. And I'm a Sagittarius, which is right before Capricorn, right? You know what else was a 20 for you? And I was born too late. What? Cancer was also 20 for you. My mother. And me. Your second highest, Scorpio and Capricorn. Am I not a Sagittarius? No, you're not a Sagittarius. And Aquarius. So Scorpio and Aquarius were your second highest. Fascinating.
Starting point is 00:44:24 Your first highest were Capricorn and cancers. Wow. What did Sagittarius come in at? Because that's what I am. A six. Out of... 20. That's...
Starting point is 00:44:37 This is really interesting. Look, also people who are like super into astrology, they don't look at just the rising sign. No, no, it's not just a... Hondo. There's a whole... You think I haven't had my chart done more than once. Your highest score was for cancer. The item in the strongest association to this is family is the most important to me.
Starting point is 00:44:55 This is based on a survey conducted on this website of astrology enthusiasts in which they voted what sign they associated a variety of personality test items from. So this is a very interesting set of results for me, not because I think astrology's wrong and like, it should have come up as Sagittarius. But here's the thing. I have no problem with astrology, but astrology is a lot more intricate than just when you were born. Like, that's like a real thing. And I remember when people would tell me that, I was like, whatever. And I was born under Sagittarius. However, there's so many other aspects where, like,
Starting point is 00:45:31 it's literally where the planets were when you were born. I find it very interesting. And when you go to a, sorry, go ahead. Well, I'm reading the, how this is generated. And, you know, this is not the most scientific. This is a crowdsourced. Right. These characteristics fall to this quality or this, this,
Starting point is 00:45:53 this sign. So the cancer that the cancer that I am. Family is the most important to me. I cry often. I'm concerned about others. I seek sanctuary and provide it for others. Okay, hold on. Here's something else about cancers. They tend to be calm, conscientious, domestic, imaginative, introverted, intuitive, moody, quiet, protective, prudent, sensitive, sympathetic, and tenacious.
Starting point is 00:46:23 They can also be self-pitying me, sulky, me, touchy or unstable. It doesn't even sound like me. Just kidding, it does. Some of the professions that cancers often tend to, historian, nurse, sailor. That's nice. Now, can we compare that with Sagittarius, which is what I, like, have spent my whole life associating with? Before we do Sagittarius, should we do Capricorn, which is your other highest? Let's do my other highest.
Starting point is 00:46:53 Capricorn, which is the sign, I believe, after me. I crave success, which I put, yes, so maybe that biased a little bit. Literally, but I'm not a little bit. I am motivated by duty. Duty. I'm well respected. I hate to spend money on unnecessary things. Capricorns are ambitious, conservative, disciplined, methodical,
Starting point is 00:47:14 persevering, political, realistic, responsible, rigid, serious, thrifty, seeks money, status, and power. I don't feel like a Capricorn to me. can be alone, frustrated, miserly, and pessimistic. Architects, farmers, musicians, bankers. Let's talk about Sagittarius. Before we do, we'll do your other two that you scored really high. One was Scorpio, which everyone has their opinions about those.
Starting point is 00:47:36 What's the Scorpio? I can get jealous. Oh. I get intense. It's hard to earn my trust. Oh. And I am interested in the occult. Competitive, courageous, determined forceful.
Starting point is 00:47:49 Magnetic, mysterious. Powerful, possessive, secretive, strong-willed can be fixated, jealous or suspicious. Chemists, detectives working in magic or psychology. That's... Interesting. What's the other one that I was high in? Aquarius. This is the dawning of the...
Starting point is 00:48:05 Aquarius. I always try to be original. Okay. I'm eccentric. Oh, this is my hippie side. I like science fiction. Yeah. And I choose unique hairstyles and outfits.
Starting point is 00:48:16 That's my funky side. Yeah. Altruistic, friendly, humanitarian, inventive. I want to be this person. Oh, interesting. This is the you that we should like put on the vision board. Inventive, perceptive, rebellious, unique, unpredictable, visionary. It can be eccentric, erratic, impersonal, and rebellious.
Starting point is 00:48:37 This is kind of like your most fun side. It's like forget like all what's expected of you. This is the side of me that might be a pilot or teach physics or be an astrologer. Or a film director. That's really interesting. So who I am by my birth, meaning just by my, what is it, my son's sign. Casual, never. Maybe I wasn't born.
Starting point is 00:49:00 Maybe my parents have lied this. Mom, now's the time. Casual, direct, enthusiastic, far-seeing, friendly, gregarious, honest, humorous, idealistic, loyal, outspoken, philosophical, restless talkative, a traveler. Are you intentionally flipping me off or you're just? No, I was not. Can exaggerate, can be irresponsible, or, tactless, explorer, lawyer, priest, philosopher. I mean, look, I think here's the thing,
Starting point is 00:49:26 and I think we should, you know, wrap this section up with this. We have a lot of different features, of a lot of different things, right? Do certain personality features tend to group? I wouldn't be surprised, but the Chinese zodiac system is completely different and works on, you know, cycles. So there's, there's a tremendous amount that is in here. And, you know, in my religious tradition, like in the Jewish tradition, you know, there's a lot of fear of predicting your life based on the stars. And a lot of people are like, oh, Jews don't like astrology or, you know, like religious people. And what it was was that in ancient times, there was a lot of different ways to interpret what was going on. And the stars were an incredibly significant and powerful part of everybody's universe. Like,
Starting point is 00:50:07 imagine when they, the humans, figured out, oh, there are repeating shapes. They move. Like, what's moving? Are we moving? Is it moving? Well, obviously they thought the sky was, you know, So anyway, you get it. So there's a lot that's very interesting to me about this. And I don't think it's surprising that I have a lot of my mom stuff, right? The things that I associate with my mom, that I associate with cancer. My dad is also a Sagittarius. We're born a week apart, a weekend, 33 years.
Starting point is 00:50:36 And I do think it's interesting when you do pair up with someone or become friends with someone that shares a sign of another significant person in your life. I'm not surprised. Do I think that you're a lot like my mom? No. But if your life had been different, if her life had been different, I do see that there's a lot about your adventurousness and your, you know, your intuitiveness that I think my mother just wasn't taught to hone when she was growing up. But it's very interesting. I really enjoyed this. Jonathan, this is the third quiz of the day. Okay. For each pair of items, I want you to choose the one you most identify with. If you don't identify equally, choose the one that you think is most important. Okay. Great. First pair. I have a natural talent for influencing people, or I'm not good at influencing people.
Starting point is 00:51:22 I have a natural talent. Modesty doesn't become me. I'm essentially a modest person. I'm essentially a modest person. I would do almost anything on a dare. I tend to be fairly cautious. I tend to be fairly cautious. When people compliment me, I sometimes get embarrassed. Yep. Okay. The other option was I know I'm good, because everyone keeps telling me so. That's not you. The thought of ruling the world frightens the hell out of me. If I rule the world, it would be a better place. I will take the first. I can usually talk my way out of anything. I try to accept the consequences of my behavior.
Starting point is 00:51:51 That's an interesting one, because I would say in my previous life, and you'll say that I try to talk myself out of everything, but I do think that it's the second. Okay. I prefer to blend in with the crowd. I like to be the center of attention. I like to blend it. I will be a success.
Starting point is 00:52:05 I'm not too concerned about success. I think I'll be successful. I am no better or worse than most people. I think I'm a special person. Yeah, I think you're special. Sure. I'll go with it. I'm not sure if I would make a good leader. I am a good leader. I see myself as a good leader. I see myself as a good leader. I'm assertive. I wish I were more assertive.
Starting point is 00:52:23 I'm pretty assertive. No? I like to have... I don't like to choose what I have for dinner. I like to have authority over other people. I don't mind following orders. I don't mind following orders as long as they make sense, but... And as long as I've given the orders that I'm also following. You don't like being a worker bee. Uh, no, I don't. Okay. I find it easy to manipulate people.
Starting point is 00:52:50 Or I don't like it when I find myself manipulating people. That's a tough one because it says that either way you are manipulating someone. Are you a persuasive person is another way to look at this? Well, persuasive is positive. Manipulation is negative. Right. I'm trying to find the same thing and show that you can use your powers for evil as well as good. Okay.
Starting point is 00:53:10 We'll do that. I insist upon getting the respect that is due. me, I usually get the respect I deserve. I usually think I pretty much. No. I don't, but I don't insist upon it, so which do you think? I think you, I think in general, you do insist on getting, and I think
Starting point is 00:53:28 you deserve respect. Okay, so we'll go with that. Like, for me, I'm... See how open to your opinion I am? Well, that, maybe that's the next question. I don't particularly like to show off my body. I like to show off my body. This is a good quiz. I don't particularly like to. I can read people like a book. People are sometimes hard to understand.
Starting point is 00:53:47 I can usually read people pretty well. If I feel competent, I'm willing to take responsibility for making decisions. I like to take responsibility for making decisions. Oh, so like, do you need to feel competent to make decisions or do you just like making decisions? Except for where to eat dinner? I like to make decisions. I just want to be reasonably happy. I want to amount to something in the eyes of the world.
Starting point is 00:54:08 I'd like to be reasonably happy. I think that's a monstrous goal. I think reasonably happy is such a big goal that so few people achieve that I would like to be reasonably happy. My body's nothing special. I like to look at my body. This is a great set of questions.
Starting point is 00:54:26 What is this quiz about even? My body's nothing special. I like to look at my body. I mean, in my early 20s when I was bodybuilding maybe, but now not so much. Okay. I try not to be a show-off. I will usually show off if I get the chance.
Starting point is 00:54:39 I'm not a show-off. I always know what I'm not a show-off. doing? Sometimes I'm not so sure of what I'm doing. Sometimes I'm not sure. I sometimes depend on people to get things done. Yeah. I rarely depend on anyone to get this. No, I definitely depend on people. Sometimes I tell good stories. Everybody likes to hear my stories. Which is it?
Starting point is 00:54:57 I don't know that everyone likes to hear them, but sometimes I tell a good one. Good. I expect a great deal from other people. I absolutely do. Or I like to do things for other people. I expect a great deal from people. I will never be satisfied until I get all that I deserve. I take my satisfaction. I'll go with that one. I take my satisfaction. I take my satisfactions as they come. I actually have been practicing
Starting point is 00:55:20 taking satisfactions as they come. Great. Compliments embarrass me. I like to be complimented. Compliments, I do not trust. But do they embarrass you? No, but I don't trust them. I think your desire to not be complimented is stronger than if it's trust or not.
Starting point is 00:55:37 Okay. Okay. Does that make sense? I have a strong will to power Power for its own sake doesn't interest me. What is the difference there? Basically, is power interesting to you or not? Only in that it can give you freedom.
Starting point is 00:55:53 So yes. I don't care about new fads and fashions. I like to start new fads and fashions, which is more you. I do not like to start new fads and fashions. I like to look at myself in the mirror. I am not particularly interested in looking at myself in the mirror.
Starting point is 00:56:05 I do like to see how my beard is growing. I really like to be the center of attention. It makes me uncomfortable to be the center of attention. It makes me uncomfortable. I can live my life in any way I want to. People can't always live their lives in terms of what they want. People cannot always live their lives. Being an authority doesn't mean that much to me.
Starting point is 00:56:21 People always seem to recognize my authority. It doesn't mean that much to me. I would prefer to be a leader. It makes little difference to me whether I'm a leader or not. I prefer to be a leader. I'm a born leader. Leadership is a quality that takes a long time to develop. I think it does take a long time to develop.
Starting point is 00:56:36 I wish somebody would someday write my biography. I don't like people to pry into my life for any reason. I wish you would stop being so busy so you could focus on writing my biography. I don't like people to pry into my life for any reason. No, they should pry. Okay. I get upset when people don't notice how I look when I go out in public. I don't mind blending into the crowd.
Starting point is 00:56:56 Don't mind blending in. I am more capable than other people. There's a lot that I can learn from other people. I mean, both can be true. Both are true. But what would you think? Both are pretty true. I mean, I like to learn from other people.
Starting point is 00:57:08 I also think that in certain regards, I'm fairly capable. I am much like everybody else. I'm an extraordinary person. Do you think you're more like everyone else than you are extraordinary? I think the average can be a little bit boring. This is the narcissistic personality inventory. So the highest you can score is 40. You did not score 40.
Starting point is 00:57:33 Did I score 39? You did not. 38. You scored... 37. You scored 18 out of 40. That's pretty good. What's interesting...
Starting point is 00:57:41 What's the average? You scored the same as an average of U.S. celebrities. True story. True story. Wow. This is a really interesting test because they give you not only the average of the people who have found it online, which is a very specific sample. And if we think like scientists, you can't take a statistic of people who took it online. Because imagine you're only then dealing with people who, first of all, have access to a computer, which it didn't used to be that everybody did.
Starting point is 00:58:10 but you're only seeing people who find this online, and you're therefore looking at samples of people who are already probably searching for things online about their personality, so it might mean they have more background in psychology. It might mean they've been to therapy, whatever. So you scored, as I said, 18 out of 40, higher levels indicate greater levels of narcissism. You did score higher than 73% of people
Starting point is 00:58:39 who have taken this test online. It's a staggering statistic. I don't know how many people have taken this online test. It could be five people, right? So don't get sweet by those statistics. That's why a... Also, how many celebrities have taken this test? We don't know. So I actually have the references if you'd like me to look up the original papers. But what they do is instead of having you freak out and be like, oh my gosh, 73% of people, which you already would know doesn't necessarily sound right because you got 18 out of 40. However, they provide three other samples. One is, it's an older stat, so it might be different now, but U.S. university undergraduates,
Starting point is 00:59:19 U.S. adults, and then U.S. celebrities. This is very, very interesting. And in addition, there are different facets. So there are seven different facets of the narcissistic personality index. The seven facets are, as you mentioned, authority. Self-sufficiency, superiority, exhibitionism, exploitativeness, vanity, and entitlement. And you scored the highest on authority,
Starting point is 00:59:49 and then next on superiority and expletitiveness, followed by entitlement, self-sufficiency, vanity. I'd be happy to take this because I am curious. All right, I'm ready. I have a natural talent for influencing people. I am not good at influencing people. I have a natural talent for influencing people. Modesty doesn't become me.
Starting point is 01:00:11 I'm essentially a modest person. I consider myself a modest person. I would do anything on a dare. I tend to be fairly cautious. No, I don't dare. When people compliment me, I sometimes get embarrassed. I always get embarrassed. The thought of ruling the world frightens the hell out of me.
Starting point is 01:00:29 I can usually talk my way out of anything. I try to accept the consequences of my behavior. I usually deserve it. I prefer to blend in with the crowd. No. I tend to like to be the center of attention. Oh, no, I'd rather blend in. I don't want to be the center of...
Starting point is 01:00:43 I don't want to be the center... I... I... Don't want... Which one again? I don't want to be the center of attention. I will be successful. I'm not too concerned about success.
Starting point is 01:01:01 I will be successful, I guess. I don't know. I'm no better or worse than most people. I think I'm a pretty special person. I think I'm a special person. special breeder. I'm not sure if I would make a good leader. I see myself as a good leader. I think I'm a good leader. I'm assertive. I wish I was more assertive. I like to have the authority over people. I don't mind following orders. I like following orders. I think you think you
Starting point is 01:01:23 like following orders, but only if it makes sense to you. Did I do this to you? I find it easy to manipulate people. I don't like it when I find myself manipulating people. I don't like to manipulate people like You do. I insist upon getting the respect that is due to me. I usually get the respect that I deserve. I think I usually get the respect. Yeah. I don't particularly like to show off my...
Starting point is 01:01:46 Which means I sometimes get no respect because I don't deserve it. Okay. I don't particularly like to show off my body. I like to show off my body. I don't want to show it. I read people like a book. People are sometimes hard to understand. I read people, even if they think I'm wrong, I'm reading them.
Starting point is 01:02:04 If I feel competent, I'm willing to take responsibility for making decisions. I'd like to take responsibility for making decisions. This question took you 30 minutes to answer. It's a very hard question. It's really not. If I feel competent, I will make decisions. If I don't feel competent, I don't want to make decisions. I just want to be a reasonably happy person.
Starting point is 01:02:25 I want to amount to something in the eyes of the world. No, just the eyes of God. I'd like to be a happy person. My body is nothing special. I like to look at my body. I try not to show off. I usually show off if I get a chance. Oh, if I get a chance, I have a good comedian.
Starting point is 01:02:42 I like to make you laugh. I always want to know what I'm doing. Sometimes I'm not sure of what I'm doing. I always want to know what I'm doing. Oh, sorry. I always know what I'm doing versus sometimes I'm not sure of what I'm doing. Sometimes you are not so sure. Sometimes you are not so sure.
Starting point is 01:02:59 I sometimes depend on other people to get things done. I rarely depend on anyone. Oh, yeah, I do. Sometimes I tell good stories. Everyone likes to hear my stories. Everybody likes it. I expect a great deal from other people. I like to do things for other people.
Starting point is 01:03:17 Both. But which is more important to me? What is the choices? I expect a great deal from other people. I like to do things for... It's more important to do things for other people. I will never be satisfied until I get all that I deserve. I take my satisfaction as they come.
Starting point is 01:03:31 I will never be satisfied. Like all the cookies, all the candy. Compliments embarrass me? Yes. I have a strong will to power. Or? Power for its own sake doesn't interest me. Yeah, I don't want to do that.
Starting point is 01:03:48 Power for its own sake doesn't interest me. I don't care about new fads and fashions. I like to start new fads and fashions. I don't care, I think, yeah. I like to look at myself in a mirror. We'll pick the other one. No. I'd rather eat toads for breakfast.
Starting point is 01:04:06 Side note, there was an article, I think from like the National Parks Association that was asking people to please stop licking hallucinating. I almost sent you that because the look on the toad's face was this. And I literally was going to send it to you and be like, why are you looking in the camera like that? Because it was so cute.
Starting point is 01:04:26 But then it was like 4 in the morning. And I was like, he's going to be like, why were you up at 4 in the morning looking at pictures of hallucinogenic to? people. He was like, the toads have banded together and are requesting that we stop licking them. I really like to be the center of attention. It makes me uncomfortable to be the center of attention. It makes me uncomfortable. It happens anyway. Being an authority doesn't mean that much to me, people always seem to recognize my authority. Okay. I don't like that. Okay.
Starting point is 01:04:56 I would prefer to be a leader. It makes little difference to me whether I'm a leader or not. I prefer to be a leader. Yeah. I'm going to be a great person. I hope I'm going to be successful. I'm a great person. Yeah. People sometimes believe what I tell them.
Starting point is 01:05:13 I can make anyone believe anything I want them to. People sometimes believe what I tell them. I'm a born leader. Leadership is a quality that takes a long time to develop. I mean, I was born bossy. I guess that means I'm a born leader. I wish someone would someday write my biography. I don't like people to pry into my life for any reason.
Starting point is 01:05:34 I really don't like people to pry into my life. Like if a biographer was like, I mean, I offer freely the information that I provide here. You are your own biogist. You are your own biographer. Yeah, but I wouldn't want someone else all up in my business writing my biography. I know, but most people don't have a public platform to be their own biographer. Most people haven't had a biography written about them by several teen authors. I feel like because you are a public person and you don't really have-
Starting point is 01:06:00 I like privacy. Well, I was actually going to say because you're a public person And you have no privacy Exactly. And so I don't really feel like you have the second one And so given that we are our own biographers and your biographer on this show I feel like that's kind of the choice. Okay. Does that feel okay?
Starting point is 01:06:18 Yeah, that's fine. I get upset when people don't notice how I look when I go out in public. I don't mind blending into the crowd when I go out in public. I like to crawl under the nearest couch when I'm out in public. I am more capable than other people. people, there is a lot that I can learn from other people. That's hard. Those are both true. You're extremely capable.
Starting point is 01:06:37 Okay. I am much like everyone else. I'm an extraordinary person. I think I'm pretty strange. Your results for the narcissistic personality inventory. What do you think your score is? Oh, God. Um, do I, lower than yours? I think, hold on.
Starting point is 01:07:00 What do you think your score is? You think you're lower than me? Here's the thing. Why do you think you're lower than me? Hold, please. I was impressed. I honestly... You thought I was going to be higher. Yeah, you thought I was going to be way higher, which, again, going back, I think the actual theme
Starting point is 01:07:18 of this entire episode is... Fun and games! ...is perception and the very, very different worlds that we both live in. But come together beautifully. Here's the thing. If I say that I think my score is lower than yours and I scored like a number, 36. I'm going to feel really stupid. You were 37. No, I wasn't. You were not. My heart. My heart stopped. You were in 18? I would not be surprised if I'm like a 14.
Starting point is 01:07:49 You were a 16. Oh. Remember when I told you you were a 37? You didn't like that. I'm a 16. You were 16. So what I'm hearing is I'm... Better than me. Better than you. Yeah. better than most other celebrities. And like an average U.S. person. Because they're just average. I'm just average in narcissism. I was so nervous I'd be more narcissistic than you. Only a true narcissist would say that.
Starting point is 01:08:18 I am so glad you're more narcissistic than I am. Well, friends, this has been a really fun and game-filled episode, also known as... Perspectives. Perspectives and shame. Moments of peace and calm, Miami realizes something. What we haven't done in a while, Maim, is a moments of peace and come. Myam realizes something, but before you do one, I'm actually going to do one.
Starting point is 01:08:47 Uh-oh. Is this something that you know that I realized or something Jonathan realizes? Then I've got to write a new jingle. No, it's something Jonathan realizes, but we already have a jingle for moments of peace and calm. Myam realizes something. So this is just going to be a moments of peace and calm. Myam realizes something. Jonathan edition.
Starting point is 01:09:03 Okay, great. Which is a little bit too long for a jingle. So this is going to tie back to the dentist. We're going to go full circle. I love a callback. So you think you're a Romeo. Playing a part in the picture. Take the long way.
Starting point is 01:09:20 When I went to the dentist, he told me something that other dentists have told me, but it kind of sunk in in a way that it didn't other times, which is that I grind my teeth at night. And he told me that by looking at the tops of my molar. and saying that they're getting ground down. After he told me that, I woke up a few times in the middle of the night, and I was like, oh my gosh, my jaw is like clenched.
Starting point is 01:09:47 And I would like take a deep breath, and I would relax my jaw. And I noticed that in nighttime, while I'm sleeping, I'm stressing out. And I would have the opportunity in that moment where I wake up and I was like, oh, wait a second. Like I'm like kind of waking up in a, in a, with tension, clenched. And both in my jaw and in my body, like I'm kind of like bracing for something.
Starting point is 01:10:16 And when I first started to audit my thinking, when I realized that my thinking impacts my physiology, I tried to sort of be aware of all my thoughts, which is somewhat impossible exercise. But the only way to start to become more aware, in my opinion, is to be like, I want to know what I'm thinking as much as possible so that I can audit it and be like, is that helpful? Is it not helpful? How is it impacting me? And to realize that that process is going on even while I'm sleeping. And then to get the opportunity to be like, oh, wait a second. Even when I wake up, I can take a brief moment, slow down and remind myself that whatever I'm thinking about that's caused.
Starting point is 01:11:00 that level of stress, and just take a breath. I can take a pause so that I can go back to sleep. I kind of thought was fascinating and just a realization that the work is never really done, even when you're not conscious. Well, since we're sharing, grinding your teeth is different than clenching your jaw. And I think you're probably talking about both. I don't know which one I'm doing. Yeah, so I know for myself, they tend to call it grinding, but what I'm,
Starting point is 01:11:30 I do is I just clench down and kind of don't release. And when it's bad, I will get migraines from it because you're literally like you're, you know, compressing everything and it hurts. Usually when I first figured this out, it would feel like I had like I was bruised. And then I'd be like, oh, the bruise is actually just the sensation of that, you know, all those, there's a ton of, you know, fantastic muscles. Like, you know, in all, all of these, like the jaw is extremely important for animals like us. that's how I chipped my tooth. I don't think so, but okay.
Starting point is 01:12:03 I don't think so either. Yeah, but that is, that's a thing, just kind of clenching your jaw. So what they do for many of us, they give us these, you know, like, they look like Envisaline, but they're not. I mean, they basically are molded to, like, where your teeth are. And what it does is it just creates a way for your tooth not to,
Starting point is 01:12:25 sorry, this is, if you know, if you've ever been to a dentist, you know this. She's putting her fist together, everyone. Like a jaw. They always do that. They're mashing. They always show you like, this is the tooth and this is the tooth. So yeah, it at least prevents them from, but it doesn't prevent that, you know, that clenching
Starting point is 01:12:41 and that feeling. There are certain medications I'm not on one of these medications or a dose of medications that do this, but there are some medications that make you clench your jaw and that make you grind. It's called bruxism, actually. The term, the clinical term is called bruxism, what you're doing. Because I do like to tie everything back to another episode. If you think of the Gabor Mate episode, and he would be like, oh, you're stressed at nighttime
Starting point is 01:13:06 to the point where that's the impact. There's something else going on. Okay. Well, I don't think it's a mystery that there's something else going on for any of us. We're living in very intense, information obsessed, lack of nature, lack of downtime, lack of mental processing. People who are stressed, it will definitely come out, you know, obviously in their sleep. But I'm just a little bit nervous. you know, to say like, I'm stressed when I sleep. Because I think what it is is that there's a level of processing that's just normal that we, that we do, meaning that's what sleep is for, specifically REM sleep.
Starting point is 01:13:39 You know, if you deny creatures of REM sleep, they will die. And like, it's like, not like, really sure what? Like, you know. So sleep is, you know, very important is an understatement. But there's things that we work out when we're awake and there's things that we work out that will get worked out when we sleep if we don't deal with them when we're awake. So my inclination is always to kind of argue
Starting point is 01:14:04 for more daytime processing to try and reduce the nighttime processing. There's so much work that we've put into talking to other people and, you know, educating people about the things we're being educated about. This is kind of where life is lived though, right? It's in these sort of kind of like honest analyses
Starting point is 01:14:23 of where we're at and we're not always going to do personality tests. was just one kind of fun in games episode. But I think what it, what it demonstrated is, you know, how much honesty, how much, you know, discipline is involved in the kind of ongoing work of being, you know, a good friend, a good partner, a good coworker, a good despot, you know, in Jonathan's case. Despot? What does that mean?
Starting point is 01:14:48 Oh, like a czar, like a authoritarian ruler. Oh, great. Anyway, so listen for more of these. Look for more of these. And from our fun and games. So the fun and games we hope you have. We will. See you next time. It's my and Bialyx breakdown.
Starting point is 01:15:07 She's going to break it down for you. She's got a neuroscience PhD or two. One fiction. And now she's going to break down. It's a breakdown. She's going to break it down.
