Welcome to Meditation Mountain and today's guided meditation for obsessive-compulsive disorder, OCD.
OCD is when you have reoccurring, generally unwanted thoughts take hold of daily living
and sometimes are compelled to do something repetitively without knowing why.
Before we begin, let's start by getting comfortable.
Make sure that you are not wearing any restrictive clothing or jewelry,
nothing too tight or irritating.
Pick a peaceful spot where you will not be disturbed.
Now that you are comfortable,
close your eyes and take in a nice deep breath.
Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth.
Do this one or two times at a nice comfortable pace.
As you breathe, you will begin to relax.
Just sit there and think about how relaxed you are starting to feel.
As you take your next breath, I want you to relax your scalp.
Feel the hair follicles relax
Become aware of their placement and let all tension melt away
Take this feeling down to your ears and let them relax
Now relax your forehead
Let your facial muscles relax
and lose tension.
Slightly open your mouth and let your bottom jaw feel loose and light with no tension at all.
Continue to let this feeling spread into your neck and shoulders.
All the tension leaves your.
body with each breath you breathe out the feeling of peace and relaxation will
continue to spread into your chest up around to your upper back shoulder blades
your muscles loosen up and feel light and you breathe and you breathe as
at a steady pace. As you focus on your breath, this feeling carries down around your back
and wraps again around your stomach area. Each breath you take in allows you to become
more calm, more comfortable, and more at peace.
This feeling follows down to your hips and pelvis and down onto your buttocks and thighs.
As you breathe, you feel your muscles relax, and your knee joints feel light with no tension.
Your lower legs around your calf and shin area are free of any cramps and the tension is gone.
You feel relaxation, pass on to the ankle and foot area of each leg.
You may have an increased awareness of your internal functions now.
and you will care less and less about the environment around you.
As you concentrate on your breathing and also the sound of my voice,
you will begin to feel lighter.
Allow yourself to float and drift, if you will.
into this state of complete relaxation you continue to breathe those peaceful breaths at the pace that you feel the most comfortable
thoughts may creep into your mind and that is okay just let them come in acknowledge their existence and let them come in acknowledge their existence and let
let them fade right back out. Just keep focusing on the feeling of drifting and the feeling of being light and airy.
You are doing a wonderful job of focusing on your relaxed state. This peaceful feeling, with each
each comfortable breath that you take.
You are completely at peace now and ready for your inner mind and your physical body to become one.
This tranquility is where all of your deepest strength comes from.
This is where you are most powerful.
Imagine yourself standing at a mailbox along the side of a residential street.
The end of the sidewalk, you will see a house.
This house may be yours, or it may be the house of a very close friend,
As I count to ten, you will take a step down the sidewalk towards the house.
With each step down, you go deeper and deeper into this peaceful trance.
I am going to count from one to ten, and with each step you, with each step you take,
And each number that I say, you will feel more relaxed.
Deeply relaxed.
1. You are very relaxed.
2. Getting more relaxed.
3.
You are deepening your relaxation.
4. Getting deeper and deeper into this trans-like state.
5. Are so relaxed.
6. Deeper.
7. Very relaxed.
8.
So super calm.
You are in a complete state of state of.
bliss. Ten. You have reached the end of the sidewalk, and now you can step onto the welcome
mat and into the door. Feel the warmth of the room. The warmth is just right. Feel a light breeze
come across your body.
Now that you are at an ultimately calm and relaxed state,
you can truly begin to feel the wonder of being at peace with your own mind and body.
The two are now working with each other in sync.
You do not need to banish the obsessive thoughts from your mind from the start.
You can start by acknowledging the thoughts instead of trying to beat them into submission.
We have discussed before the act of watching thoughts pass through our minds,
like we would watch traffic pass by while sitting on the front porch.
The first step to managing your thoughts is to establish intentional detachment from them.
By doing this, you will be giving your thoughts less control over you.
If you are a person that feels that you cannot settle for anything less than perfection,
then you may very well be in a constant battle with yourself.
You are inadvertently making yourself miserable,
striving for impeccably high standards that you set for yourself.
Somewhere in your life, something led you to believe that you are only worthy if you come in first,
if you rise above all the rest, and if you are perfect in all that you do.
No one is perfect at all that they do.
and you will always be chasing a goal that leaves you stressed and fatigued.
You will begin to notice that life can be quite comfortable when you are not competing with yourself any more.
You will begin to notice that you can bring plenty to the table and can be viewed as an asset simply.
by being who you are.
You will begin to notice that you are more than satisfied when you put in your best effort
with the intention of getting better as you go, not being the best the first time,
every time.
You will begin to notice that you accept yourself for who you are.
and you are no longer bound by being perfect.
You will begin to notice that you are allowed to make progress in different ways,
and that you learning as you go is just fine.
When we climb a set of stairs, we do not start at the bottom and just appear at the
top, we take our time, going from step to step, and that is how we are most efficient in our
time and energy.
You will begin to notice that you appreciate the climb, the progression, not just the destination.
Take a moment to fully observe how you feel in this state.
When you are ready to come back to full consciousness, you will open your eyes and feel not only a sense of peace, but new respect for yourself for accepting and loving who you are today and each day going forward.
If you haven't done so already, please open your eyes.
This concludes today's meditation.
