What’s really hidden beneath Mount Shasta? In this episode, we descend into the strange legends surrounding one of America’s most mysterious mountains—from stories of ancient mummies and hidden tunnels to claims of a secret underground city and a forgotten civilization. And I'm really excited about this episode that we're going to dive into. We're going to go to Mount Shasta and talk about some of the interesting aspects of this amazing location on the West Coast. And one of the first places we went camping, we did a road trip down to Northern California.

You know, when you're approaching Mount Shasta on I-5, when you get to about, I think it's called the Wai'a Rica, California, you're heading south. The landscape just appears so primordial, so ancient. And one interesting thing to note is that as you're approaching Mount Shasta in the distance, if you look close on the foothills surrounding Mount Shasta, you'll see these lines. And what these lines are in the distance, these are rock walls that are much bigger than you think when you get up close to them. But there's these rock walls that are made up of these volcanic stones that have been piled together. And these things run all over the foothills right there surrounding Mount Shasta.

And I've done a little bit of research on them. And there are some theories that these are far older than we actually know. These weren't just put up necessarily by farmers in the 1800s. These look almost like, you know, maybe some kind of Mayan wall you would see in Mexico. Not necessarily the style, but you get what I'm saying. it's this rock wall that's pretty high up. And at one point along the freeway, you get to drive right by one that comes down this hill. And so that's just one of many interesting, possibly ancient anomalies in this area.

Now, Mount Shasta is ancient in itself, and there's so many legends and oral traditions about this interesting mountain. It's known in many circles as a literal portal, or you could say Stargate. For those who follow UFOology, Mount Shasta is kind of a hot spot. It's even known for UFOs going in and out of it, I believe. It's considered a very sacred mountain, a very sacred location to the Native American tribes of this area, namely the Wintu and Modoc tribes who regard the area as their native place of worship. Now, according to these tribes, there are some mythical creatures that are believed to inhabit this mountain range.

And one of them is known as the Matakagmi. I think I'm pronouncing that right. And this is like the modoc word for Bigfoot. Matakami are said to be eight foot plus tall, covered in coarse hair, have brown eyes, and give off a musky odor. Now thousands upon thousands of people literally make pilgrimages here every year. It's like a mecca to the New Age community. And this is mostly due to the legend of Limeria that says somewhere deep beneath the mountain is a complex world of tunnels and a hidden city called Telos or Telos.

And this is home supposedly to an ancient, community of people, again, called the Lemurians. Now, as you look into the legends of Limeria, you're going to find reports of people, even in modern times, who have reported seeing living seven foot plus tall creatures or humanoids with long, flowy hair on the mountains. And people in the know who follow the stuff believe that these seven plus foot tall entities, are basically the offspring or descendants of the surviving ancient Limerians who once lived under the mountain. Now, a lot of that might sound pretty fanciful or out there to many, but there's actually a photo that I have. Right now, I'm going to show you the photo. This is somewhere on the backside of Mount Shasta. And as you can see, here is what looks like almost a megalithic door that has been carved into the backside of the mountain. You see cutouts, kind of like you might see in Peru at some of these sites, where it's layered cuts going in. But what's more is, instead of seeing some cave entrance or ancient-looking entrance into the mountain, you see modern-day, doors that have been cemented in. It's like the original entrances were sealed off with cement, and then they put in their own door and put a lock on it. And so it's very interesting. You can see the scale of the doors with the guy standing next to it. So Shasta is known for all these mysteries.

It's known for sub-training tunnels, these Limerians, UFOs, Bigfoot. But it's also known for people literally disappearing in and on and around the mountain. What's more, it's also known for some legends of giants. And in this episode, I wanted to share probably the most famous giant legend regarding Mount Shasta. And this evolves around a guy named J.C. Brown. Now, as you look into the legend of J.C. Brown, this main figure, J.C. Brown, appears to have been a real person who lived in the 1800s and into the early 1900s. He was a British prospector who in 1904 was hired by a mining company called the Lord Cowdre Mining Company of England to prospect for gold in and around California and the Mount Shasta region. Now as the story goes, one day, J.C. Brown, he's out surveying

on Mount Shasta, and he comes across this cliff. And he is trying to figure out, man, how do I get down from this ledge, this cliff area? He eventually makes his way down to the bottom. And as he gets to the bottom of this cliff, he notices in the distance what looks kind of like a tunnel entrance at the base of this cliff. But as he moves closer to what looks like this tunnel, he can see that it's been blocked mostly by fallen rock debris. And so he begins digging and excavating around what he thinks is this tunnel entrance for a while. So he must have had obviously a shovel with him and some equipment because again he is there to prospect for gold. So eventually he clears his way through and sure enough there is a tunnel. And according to most reports, it is a large tunnel that appears to him to be manmade.

meaning this isn't just some natural cave on the mountain. This was made by somebody else. This was hand chiseled or hand carved out, hand dug, whatever. And according to reports, this thing was big, like 10 feet tall by almost 7 feet wide. So as the story goes, J.C. Brown begins to venture deep inside this tunnel. And he goes deeper and he goes deeper. and he goes deeper. So as I read between the lines,

it's like he was in there for a mile or two, and it's just kind of like a tunnel, just rock tunnel, that's it. But as he goes even deeper, he begins to find an assortment of ancient oddities in these tunnels that included remnants of what appeared to be some type of ancient mining tools. Apparently, he also began to come across valuables, treasures,

valuable precious stones and even gold according to some of these stories. Now he ventures even deeper still and into the tunnel, he begins to find chambers that go off this main vein of the tunnel. And as he looks into some of these chambers, he sees inscriptions and symbols. You know, I kind of picture when I hear this that maybe they were like hieroglyphic. or even petroglyphs that were etched into the walls of these chambers. But what's more, according to the legend, J.C. Brown begins to find artifacts. But the story gets even better.

J.C. continues to venture deeper still and looks in other chambers. And what does he find inside? But what looks like ancient mummies, these skeletons that are wrapped of unusually. usual size, ranging from like seven to nine feet, I believe. Now, again, this part of the legend took place apparently in 1904. Now let's fast forward 30 years later to 1934 when J.C. Brown appears in Stockton, California.

And part of where we get this piece of the legend is a news headline from the Stockton record of June 9th, 1934, they ran a top of the fold page, page one headline that's read, quote, 80 Stocktonians left behind in search for lost continent. So you can surmise what you want from this part of the legend. Kind of what I get from this maybe is that, again, in 1904, 30 years earlier, J.C. Brown finds this tunnel. But then for whatever reason, he couldn't get the treasure back out with him back to wherever he lived or maybe he went back and told people and they laughed at him and wouldn't help him come back or maybe he did take some stuff with him from the tunnel but i imagine as one guy he could only take so much so maybe he went back to stockton

you know and maybe just a year later he wanted to go back to this tunnel but maybe you couldn't find his way back. Who knows what really happened? All we know, according to this legend, is 30 years later, he's trying to get this group of people, this search party to go with him to find this spot on Mount Shasta, to go into the tunnels and to find and catalog all of these ancient artifacts and skeletons. But here's where the legend goes dark. Apparently the night before the search party was to leave Stockton and travel to Mount Shasta, J.C. Brown mysteriously vanishes. And members of his expedition party suspected foul play, according to many reports. Police were called into investigate, but they found no reason for his disappearance to be a hoax.

And J.C. Brown was never seen again, according to the legends. So that's just a little bit of valor surrounding Mount Shasta, a place that is truly ancient, a place that is shrouded in mystery with all these legends and oral traditions. And again, like I said, that photograph of the back of the mountain is very, very intriguing to me. But also when you add in the fact that there are ancient petroglyphs not far from Mount Shasta on Donner Pass. And so this is a place I definitely look forward to going to visit myself in the near future. But again, one thing is for certain.

Mount Shasta is ancient and this place is shrouded in mystery. And I actually have some plans in the near future to go to Northern California again. Myself, maybe with some friends, and do some of my own investigation and take some videos and photographs and to try to find these sealed off doors on the backside.
