Mention It All
A Bravo by Betches podcast
We don't say that
But now we said it
With me, Dylan Hafer
Hey everyone
Welcome back to the
Mentioned All podcast
I'm Dylan Hafer
And I am so excited
To be here
With one of my favorites
From Summer House
Martha's Vineyard
Which is back now
For its second season
Please welcome Jordan
Emmanuel
Thank you for having me
Thank you for being here
We've got a new season
to talk about.
We've got a spicy premiere.
Spice.
My God.
Spice.
How do we feel being back on the vineyard for a second season?
You know, we love the vineyard.
We love the vineyard fam.
It's the ups and the downs.
It comes with any family you have.
So, you know, summer vacation is supposed to be fun, like Kyle said.
So we'll see how fun it is.
What was the difference for you going into the first season last year?
obviously never doing a show like this before meeting some of these people, getting to know them
better versus this year, it's mostly the crew that you already know. It's, you know, you've done
the whole reality thing a couple times now. What was the vibe shift for season two? Well, a lot of
the relationships, the dynamics changed in between season one and season two. So going into season two,
not everyone was speaking. As you saw, Jasmine and I weren't talking for a couple of months. So
that was different considering she was one of my closest friends at one point.
Silas is not there, so that's different.
So I'd say the friendships that we formed last year have changed so much coming into the house this time.
So that was interesting to navigate.
The reality space, though, it definitely made me feel more comfortable, just being more experienced.
At this point, everything had aired, so I've gone through the full cycle of everything.
So I kind of knew better what to expect this time than the first time.
I was looking back at the sort of timeline of your trajectory so far.
And it's so crazy to me that you filmed the season of Winterhouse before Martha's Vineyard had aired at all.
So like not only did we not know you as, you know, viewers, but anybody else who was in the cast hadn't seen a show that you were on.
Like it is kind of crazy to look at the timeline and be like, okay, so that's airing and that's coming out.
sooner and then I'm filming this and like all of these different like scenes and moments that are
happening. It's a lot. It was a lot. And that's why I think especially at Winterhouse, I was so
fresh. I didn't know what I was doing. And so I think I was very much in my head in that experience a
lot. And I was definitely like a very self-conscious because I didn't know what I was doing. I'm still
thinking about what I filmed for Summer House. And I'm like, oh my God, do I look crazy then? And then I'm
like filming this other thing with these people I don't know. I'm like, ah, that's a lot.
Right. And you don't know also like how things are going to be received, like sort of the figuring out like what the audience reacts to and how people sort of experience these shows when you're watching them versus when you're just like living your life trying to get through the day.
Right.
It's different.
It's different. And then reliving it too is crazy.
Because not only are you seeing what everybody else was saying and what you said that you may have forgotten.
and now other people are chiming in on what happened.
Were there, was there anything when you watched the first season of Martha's Vineyard
or Winterhouse that you watched, you were kind of like, I thought that would land differently
or like I didn't realize that I was doing X, Y, Z?
Like, were there any kind of like red flags for you where you're like, okay, for next time,
now it's good to know?
You know, I actually had the opposite reaction.
I'm so self-critical that I was like, oh, that wasn't even that bad.
And I was like, oh, I was like thinking like, oh my God, this is going to be so bad.
And I'm like, girl, this was nothing, you know.
Also, it's like, I feel like there are probably moments where in your head you make it so big and
you're like, oh my God, I said something embarrassing, whatever, whatever.
And then it like, it either gets edited out or it's like a 30 seconds.
Yes, yes.
So many of those where I'm like, oh my God, I was crying for three hours.
And it's like, all right, it was like two minutes.
We talked about it.
It is what it is.
And then by the time it airs, it's like six months, seven,
months later and it's like you're so over it. And yeah, of course, it's not ideal to see it
and run it back. But it's just such a blip that I don't think it's ever that deep.
Especially it's interesting because watch on the original summer house from every season
except for the pandemic one, they go to the Hamptons for the weekend and then they leave and then
they come back. Martha's Vineyard, episode one of this season, it's like day one of 15. We're here.
Yep. We're not leaving until it's over. Like, you really have to think about it kind of in that sense that it's like, okay, this is like a whole whirlwind of a time. And I don't think people realize that. I think they look at it in the same lens as the summer house where you kind of get a break and you go home and you recharge and you take a breath. We don't have any breaths. Yeah. So that's why I think certain things get heightened with us because we're just with each other all the time. Yeah. Yeah. I think also it was interesting in the premiere kind of being
reminded that it's like we see people in New York getting ready to leave. We see people in D.C.
We see Alex is in Austin. Like not all of you guys are just like, it's not like, oh, we live in
the city and then we come to the vineyard. It's like everybody's kind of coming from their own
places. And it's really interesting also to see how that adds to the dynamic of like, who do you
see when it's not on the vineyard, when you're in town, when somebody's in New York, who's getting
invited to hang out with who?
Like, it really, there are a lot of layers coming into this season.
It's a lot.
Yeah.
Obviously, with Amir and Preston and Cheneas, like, they don't live in New York City, like you're
saying.
So it's interesting to navigate hanging out, especially with some people are in relationships
now.
Some people are.
Like, it's a very roller coaster ride.
It's very much giving roller coaster.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So good, so good, so good.

That's why you rack.
Girl, winter is so last season.
And now spring's got you looking at pictures of tank tops with hungry eyes.
Your algorithm is feeding you cutoffs.
You're thirsty for the sun on your shoulders.
That perfect hang on the patio sundress.
Those sandals you can wear all day and all night.
And you've had enough of shopping from your couch.
Done hoping it looks anything like the picture when you tear up on that envelope?
It's time for a little in-person spring treat.
It's time for a trip to Ross.
Work your magic.
I want to talk about your relationship with Jasmine a little bit.
Obviously, coming into the season, I think both of you in the premiere kind of acknowledge that
last season, she was maybe not her most authentic self.
And she says right off the bat, you know, I was very focused on trying to be this perfect
wife and sort of to play this role in a way.
And obviously, you had some issues with how that went down as well.
But I thought it was interesting that even.
though you both kind of acknowledged this issue from last season, it wasn't just like, okay,
we both said it. Now everything is like cleared up, move forward. What was your sort of like goal going
into the summer with her? You know, I don't think I really had a goal. I think I just went in with
the mindset that we're going to be around each other. I'd like to be in a place where I don't
feel any like anxiety or any discomfort, like discomfort around her.
That was my goal.
Yeah.
I knew we weren't going to immediately get back to where we were.
I think in the back of my head there was always a reservation.
Is she only acting like this because Silas isn't here now?
So I think it was hard to trust that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
With Silas not being there this summer, I feel like he was such a large presence in the house last season.
So you knew going into it that he wasn't going to be there this season, right?
Yeah, we all did.
Okay.
So did you feel like it allowed Jasmine to sort of open up in a different way?
Or was it kind of like this, you know, person who's not there is still like looming large?
Yeah, I felt like it was more of the Jasmine that I recognized.
And I don't know if that's because Silas isn't there, but it's hard to not consider it as a factor, you know.
Obviously Silas' presence was still there.
We spoke to him via FaceTime and we got little notes from him from Jasmine.
So he was definitely still a presence, but him physically not being there definitely, I think, contributed into her behavior, which was different from the first season.
Yeah.
It's tough when it's like, obviously, you know, their relationship is their relationship.
They have a baby now.
Of course.
You know, but then also it's like when you have a friend connection with us.
somebody and it's like, oh, like, it's a little different, you know.
Yeah.
Well, of course, like that's to be expected.
I think any time that we change our lives to the point of motherhood, being a wife,
moving away, anything, getting into a new relationship, you're going to have a change
in the dynamic, which is always to be expected.
I think what I was caught off guard was there was a personality change to me.
Yeah.
Which I'm like, I didn't see that.
coming.
Yeah.
I did like, I feel like you were, you were, you were a clear communicator in this premiere
of like, I understand that we have this thing to talk through.
I don't want to do it at dinner right now.
I don't really want to do it on the boat.
And didn't.
It's like the doctor film moment on the boat.
It's like, please, no.
I'm like, I'm trying to pop bottles and, and rock the boat right now.
Like, that is not my mindset is talking about this serious conversation.
But here we are.
The dinner, that first dinner was...
Ficey?
It was stressful for me to watch.
Tail and tails.
You don't see it, but I was like biting my nails the whole time.
I'm like, oh my, I'm just looking over here, over here.
I'm like, whoa, there's a lot going on.
I feel like compared to some of the people in the house,
maybe like a Preston and Embria type of situation,
I feel like your vibe is a little bit more like low-key.
Like you can have your issues and conversations with somebody,
but like the volume maybe isn't getting as high.
the level of theatrics maybe isn't quite there.
Not at the rip at least.
Sometimes I can get there, as you can see from season one.
But it takes me a minute to get there.
Yeah.
Yeah.
The whole thing with Preston, Brea, where Brea's like leaving the table, coming back,
leaving again, I'm like, wait, sorry, what?
It was giving telenovela.
Absolutely.
And the spread was so stunning.
Like, I was trying to have my little Pinterest moment.
I'm like, y'all are ruining my Pinterest board right now.
Like, all I want is my little.
little lobsters, my table placements, like everything. And this is just getting chaotic.
But at the same time, I'm like, no, that feels, it's correct. It feels right. I'm like, we just got
here. We've only been here hours at that moment by then. And I think it's like the wild like up
and down where Brea comes back like, I don't know, 10 minutes later. And it's like, I'm sorry.
I didn't mean that. It was also the I love you. I love you. I love you. And that part had
me crying. It's like you're like screaming at each other. Right. And then you're just like,
never mind. I take that back.
Yeah.
Obviously, Preston was dealing with some challenging emotional stuff going into the season.
I know that, like, as a group, I feel like you guys do a good job of kind of compartmentalizing maybe and being there for each other and understanding that like some things are more important than, like, you know, is her dog being annoying or whatever.
Poor Milo.
But yeah, like, how do you feel like the group kind of has grown in that sense of.
like a group of people that are there for each other
besides just like these two weeks
in the summer. I think that
you know, in any group that as large as
ours you're going to have pockets of people
that are closer to some more than
others. However,
as a whole, I think
we have a great foundation
of support. You know,
even a couple of days ago, things were getting
spicy in the group chat.
And we were still able to say,
y'all, let's bring it together.
We have this thing that we're doing.
we only have this experience with one another and we have to respect at least that.
And I think as soon as somebody says, let's wave the white flag, we all do come together and are like, all right, let me chill.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I think the dynamic going into the summer between Summer and Alex was interesting in that regard.
That it's like what really happened here, but also like, are we over it?
Are there different layers to it?
I talk to me about that a little bit.
So obviously you're friends with both of them.
Yes.
I mean, and Alex and I,
we have gotten to a much better place than the last time you all saw us.
Yes.
And from what you will see,
we end in a much better note.
But I think with him,
he wants to embody a certain level of,
of energy, right? And when things aren't aligned with his vision of what he thinks it's supposed to be
and when he gets called out for it, he doesn't love it. I think that was one of those moments at
the dinner table with Summer. Now, could she have presented it better? Absolutely. Was that the time it
plays? Probably not. But I think for her it was more about respect. And it was more about, hey, if we're
going to try to move to this space of friendship, why is there this disconnect?
Because it feels like shots fired, especially since there's a level of intimacy that has
been involved in our past.
I think it's really challenging.
I mean, this is something that I feel like every friend group that has any sort of like
relationship hookup, whatever feelings, it's like there can be a lot of different
complicated moments of like, okay, we said, we said this isn't anything.
We said we're moving forward.
We said we're friends, whatever.
But it's like, it's always like a little bit harder than you think it's going to be.
Right.
Because even in that, that requires a level of communication.
Like what does moving forward look like?
To summer that meant that means I should be invited to your events.
To him, I don't know.
So, you know, like even there's a disconnect when you don't know each other's,
not love languages, but even just communication.
Yeah.
And especially if it's somebody that you don't live in the same city, you're not seeing each other all the time.
It's like, okay, we wouldn't be hanging out every weekend, whether we were together or not.
So then it's like, it's really easy for something to sort of like grow in your own mind.
Absolutely.
Especially because they didn't know each other that well.
They literally met, summer came a week later, you know, from season one.
So they had just met that week.
And then, you know, whatever from off camera, like that was the only time they've spent time together.
That's another thing watching the show, like the sense of time where you're like, oh, they've known each other for six weeks.
It's been six episodes and it's like, no, no.
No, actually, it was like Tuesday.
Right. It's been 48 hours, approximately.
That always happens to me watching like below deck shows because the whole season is like four weeks of real time.
And it's like, damn, they have not known each other very long.
But they've been through a lot.
That's the other thing.
So it's like there's so many experience that happens in such a short period of time that it does feel like a longer period.
But it's pretty quick.
At least you're not stuck in the man cave downstairs with the bunk beds.
Yeah, that was not going to work for me.
No bathroom?
No.
There's no bathroom down there.
No.
That is shocking.
I know.
Seems like a design flaw.
You know, we made a suggestion to the owner.

Own the dream.
What did you think about the season one house
versus the season two house?
Because I always think it's watching the show.
The house is almost like a character.
It is.
So the first house,
I liked the physical house more.
Like, we had more rooms.
Like, I liked that better.
However, the amenities of the current.
And house.
Okay.
Can't be beat.
Trampoline.
That's the trampoline.
There's a garden.
The pool is where I live.
The hot tub worked.
Everything was everything.
Everything.
I see the trampoline and I'm like, somebody's getting injured.
Oh, several people did.
Several people did.
Yep.
I did not.
However.
You'd sign a waiver on the first day.
Right.
Like that several ankles were lost to that trampoline.
Mine are intact.
However.
You've got to be really strategic.
You're like, okay, I can only have like one glass of rosé before I'm on the
trampoline.
If that.
If that.
Yeah.
Do you feel like was there any difference that you noticed this season of when you guys were like out and about on the vineyard of people knowing about the show or people kind of like being more aware of what you guys were there for?
Yeah.
I think there were definitely some people who knew what was going on.
There were people that were fans.
There were people that were not.
Yeah.
Because the island is very small.
So, you know, some people are like, ah, you're in our way.
but mostly it was positive.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I feel like that's the kind of thing where, I mean, people get annoyed.
Even in New York City, it's like if they're filming law and order on my block, I'm like, no, that's annoying.
I need to get around.
Right, right.
Yeah, like there's a general inconvenience of filming of any type.
Yeah.
But I do feel like with your show specifically, there is like bringing the like awareness and like the kind of like the fun of this community that exists that a lot of people don't know about that is meaning.
for, you know, a more specific reason than just like it's a beach.
Absolutely.
I feel like it's cool.
And I feel like it's a cool opportunity to be able to share that with maybe people who in
their own community don't feel like they have kind of that, like, you know, that piece of
like a place for them.
Right.
No, I agree.
And I feel like everybody needs a bad and bougie place to kind of vacation and feel like
that girl.
And I feel like Martha's Vineyard provides that for a very specific.
group of people.
Yeah.
One that I wasn't even aware of until I went a couple summers ago.
And so now I know that there are so many people that are like, we went to the house and
like are taking pictures of the old house and like have done the things that we've done on
the show, which is really, you know, rewarding.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's cool.
I want to talk about Noel who's new this season.
I'm loving her vibe right off the bat.
She is hilarious.
She's really fun.
hilarious.
My little Capricorn sis.
Okay.
So we're good with Noel?
Yes.
Yes, she's just like a little ball of fun.
What was it like, I mean, obviously there are a few people who are on season one that aren't on the show this year.
Noel's new.
Is there anyone else new in the mix?
So what was it like kind of with her being the only new person?
Did you feel like everybody kind of clicked right away or was there a little bit of?
Yeah, actually.
I did feel like every, she meshed in very well.
And it's so funny because I was talking to my best friend the other day and I was like, this is crazy seeing her walk into this.
space, like having watched the show and not knowing any of us. And he was like, well, you did that
with Winterhouse. And I was like, you know, you're right. I was like, that's so interesting.
Because I was like, I wonder how she felt about it. And then he was like, well, you did that.
And I was like, oh, that's so true. How much had you seen of different people's shows that were on
Winterhouse before you met them during filming? I don't know how much you were like a Bravo girlie.
I was more of a housewife person. Yeah. Other than doing like initial research for like,
okay, what is this show that I'm about to be on? That was the only time I,
I ever watched Summerhouse.
Okay.
And then Winterhouse I didn't really watch.
And I'd never seen Below Deck.
Yeah.
Vanderpump I had seen earlier, like, years.
And Family Karma, I'd never seen either.
It's, it was, I mean, there were a lot of different shows represented on that third
season of Winter House, which I thought was cool.
Yeah.
It was like, I felt like we, like, expanded the world a little bit.
But also, it's like, no, I can't watch every season of Below Deck, Med or whatever.
No, no.
I mean, there's so many spin-offs of it now.
Yeah.
where I don't know.
I've actually kind of been like not on my reality game.
Yeah.
Like I'm down to basically real housewives of Beverly Hills and I barely even tap into that at this point.
I feel like for Winterhouse, it's probably honestly better if you're not like super in the weeds with everyone's history.
Because it's not like you're not playing like traitors or survivor.
Like you don't need to know like how they're like strategic brain works.
And I'd rather not know because I don't want to come in there with like preconceived judgment or anything.
I certainly wouldn't want that to happen.
to me. So I think I just went in with an open mind. Do you feel like, so now you've done three seasons of shows that are all a very similar format in terms of like you go to the house, you kind of don't leave until it's over. Would you be interested in doing a show that had more of like an everyday kind of vibe or was like a competition or something? Or do you feel like you kind of are good with this little vibe that you're on? I will say what I like about this format is it's me.
on vacation. I almost like that I get to go back to my normal life and it's still mine. Yeah. And I'm not
sharing that. I don't know if I, I would love to do a game show. Yeah. Like get me on Family Feud,
Steve. Yeah. I would like, wait, we should do like Summer House versus Summerhouse Martha's Vineyard Family Feud.
I would be there. Okay. Or like the music ones. I would love to do something fun like that.
Or I would do like an oxygen like who the bleep did I marry. Like something ridiculous.
What was the other?
Snap, like, narrating something ridiculous.
I would love that.
Okay, so we're moving into the more of, like, the, like, reality hosting, entertainment
kind of vibe.
Okay.
Yes.
Because that's what my background is in, was broadcast journalism.
But you're not, like, follow me around for three months with a camera.
I'm good on that, I think.
I mean, once you go in that direction, I feel like it's really hard to reel it back.
It really is, and I just feel like even now people think they know everything about.
you. And I'm like, you don't know a damn thing. Sit there and watch me on vacation. I like being
able to say, you don't know the ins and outs of my life every day. Okay. I also don't think I would ever be
willing to show like when I do start seeing someone. I don't think I would ever want to show that.
Interesting. Yeah. If that person was like down to come to the vineyard for a couple weeks,
would that be like, or you feel like you would want to kind of like? I don't think my man would
want to. Okay. I think my man is one of those guys who's not on Instagram. Maybe it's like all
flowers and like some food, some vacay, something. He posted from like 158 weeks ago, that type of
dude. Okay. You're like a low key vibe. So like I feel like that's interesting because in both of
the past seasons that we've seen, it's like people have expressed interest and you're like,
no, like my dream man is not in the winter house. Yeah, he's not here. Like I might. It's not you. It's just like no one here.
Right, right.
It's not you.
It's the environment.
Yeah.
Yeah, no.
I just don't see.
Like, we can't both want attention.
We both can't be.
I mean, I would be regardless, like the center.
However, yeah, I don't want you to even want to be in the part of this world outside
of supporting me.
Right.
That's, I feel like that's a good, it's a good thing to know.
Like, I feel like the fact that you know that, it's like you're not going to show up to, you know, next season of Summerhouse,
at this vineyard and be like, maybe my dream man will be somebody that they, that walks through
these doors.
Right.
Yeah, no.
It might be their friend.
Mm-hmm.
Maybe they know someone could hook me up.
You're going to like, keep your side of the street a little more clean.
I think so.
Yeah.
I think if anything, maybe, again, like, I would love to have like something fun happen.
Right.
But a man that I claim, no.
No, no, no, no, no, no.
That he's going to make the feed?
No, there's not going to be like a hard launch situation happening.
No, probably not.
I support that.
I feel like, you know, you've got to keep a little something for me.
And also, like, even outside of reality, like, I am that person.
If I post someone on my feed, like, you're only going to see the back of the head and it's
going to be in a hoodie and you won't even know anything.
If you see a hand, gloves are going to be, you won't know anything.
Won't know anything.
He could be a phantom for all you know.
You could go out in public and he's wearing like a clown mask.
A mask.
Literally.
Well, the people, you know, Reddit,
We'll be like putting the clues together.
Right.
Like trying to, you won't even know.
Unless you see us out in public and you do a little sneaky pick, that's all y'all are getting.
Best of luck with that.
Thank you.
I do just want to bring it back a little bit before we wrap up.
So now this is your third season of a show.
It's the second season of Summer House Martha's Vineyard.
You've been through this process a few times now.
How do you feel like doing reality TV has changed you personally?
Oh, I mean, I think it's made me a lot more careful. I don't want to say it's made me feel like I edit myself. I don't. I think I'm just, there's a different level of awareness that I have now that we all have. I just choose to try to use it to better myself. Some people, you know, it goes to their head a little bit. Me, I like to just, how do I make this more, how do I deliver this better? Or how can I express this better? Or how can I express this better? Or how can I,
I, you know, listen better.
You know, I try to use it for self-improvement because how often can we just look back
and rewind ourselves and be like, ooh, I did that?
Okay, let me do this next time.
Right.
I mean, it goes back to what you were saying earlier that you don't want to watch the show
and like have a list of things that you're like, I wouldn't have done that.
I shouldn't have done that.
I shouldn't have said that.
Because there's nothing you can do about that also.
You know what I mean?
So, like, of course there are things that I'm like, ooh, I could have done that
better.
But it's also like, all right, that was cute.
I would rather focus on the moments that were like, oh, that was funny that I said that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So that being said, we're one episode into this season.
We've got a lot to go.
How are we feeling about reliving, about watching, about hearing the confessionals and what people have said?
Is it like, what's the vibe of watching?
I'm not.
There are things that I'm really excited for.
There are things that I'm really not excited for to relive.
There's definitely some arguments.
There's definitely some.
tension.
There's some breakthroughs.
I'm not saying breakdowns anymore.
Breakthroughs.
That happened.
So, you know, those always suck.
Yeah.
Like, no one wants to see anybody upset.
Like, you or anybody else, no one wants to see that.
Or relive it again, rather.
Yeah.
But, you know, it's a part of the experience.
Do you watch the show alone?
Or are you like, what's your kind of like vibe?
Like, do you need support or are you like, no, no, no, I got to go in my hole and see what
the damages. So we received the episodes a couple days before everybody else sees them. So usually
I'll either watch alone or like I'll make someone else watch for me and be like, how bad is it?
Just so I can prepare myself. Yeah. But when it actually airs, I usually always watch it with people.
Okay. Yeah. So you're like, I mean, you're not like, you're not putting your head in the sand and like pretending it doesn't, you know.
No, no, no, no. Like sometimes I won't watch it again because I'm like, ooh, I don't really want to see that again.
I feel that. Yeah. But most of the time I watch.
I watch it all.
Okay.
Yeah.
You got to get in the trenches.
You got to see what's going on.
Yeah.
I think the only thing I didn't watch was like a couple of the Winterhouse episodes and the reunion because it was just like we just did it.
That's true.
I feel like also because like even if there was to be another season of Winterhouse that you did, it's not going to be the exact same group of people.
It's not going to be like, you know, there's going to be a different dynamic.
So it's less like, it feels less like, oh, I need to watch my life and more like, yeah.
It's like I just, we just had this conversation two weeks ago, so I remember.
I was there.
Yeah.
You're like I'm good on that.
Yeah.
Well, I'm so excited to see the rest of this season.
Congratulations on everything.
It's so exciting.
Thank you so much.
I can't wait for you to see my themed party.
Yes.
Really excited about that.
Is the themed party better for the Pinterest board maybe than the ties and tails and tails?
Yes, but I will say it's a little bit more ratchet than the tails and tails.
Okay.
Well, Pinterest doesn't always have to be.
be, you know. No, but you know, it's just completely different sides of my Pinterest board.
Okay. Okay. Well, thank you, Jordan, so much for being here. Thank you for having me.
