Starting point is 00:00:30 Ha ha, laugh, funny. Mention It All. A Bravo by Betches podcast. We don't say that, but now we said it. With Dylan Hafer. Who don't check me, move? And Barry Rosenfeld. I need to start drinking alcohol.
Starting point is 00:00:43 Now go to sleep, we. Hey, everyone. Welcome back to the Mention at All podcast. I'm Dylan Hafer. I'm Barry Rosenfeld. How's it going? What's the vibe? Slowly getting back into it.
Starting point is 00:00:57 Slowly. I feel like I jumped feet first. Well. Yeah, we're hobbling through this week. We didn't talk about yesterday. I meant to bring up that Steve Lodge, Vicki's ex-fiancee, is now engaged to someone else. I'm sorry, that was repulsive. Vicki seems pretty broken up about it. You know, she's made a lot of social media comments and stuff about how, you know, Steve deceived her and lied to her. And, you know, she just can't seem to catch a break. And Andy wants to find her a man in 2022. I don't know. I mean, I am not the biggest
Starting point is 00:01:38 fan of Vicky, but it does seem like she has pretty bad luck with men. Yeah. And then Peter put in his two cents and told her from V, from Vanderpompe and told her what the issues with all of her men are, as if she didn't realize that was... She is a bad picker. I mean, I think Vicky is the kind of person where it seems like she can get a little desperate. And like she just wants, you know, a man to be affectionate to her, which is understandable. But I think it probably makes her susceptible to guys who, you know, talk a big game and really kind of woo her at the beginning. And then they can flip the switch.
Starting point is 00:02:18 I got to say, I'm a little worried that Teresa could find herself in a similar situation. with Louis, you know, he seems like a charm machine, but some people who have been with him in the past have not had the nicest things to say. So I don't know. I mean, I'm glad Vicky is free from Steve, but at the same time, I'm like, I don't know. I don't know if it's in the cards for her to like have a dream man at this point. I feel like everyone has different experiences with everyone. So it's like everyone's exes could have whoever has bad things to say, he can also have exes that have like good things to say. I feel like these people, yeah, these people though, like as much as we love it because we talk about it, I just sometimes can't wrap my head around the situations they make public sometimes that nobody asks for. Like you're a grown, you're grownups, like actual grownups and I can't believe you're discussing these things on.
Starting point is 00:03:20 Social media. Right. Like, Vicky is a 60-year-old woman. He's like grown up. No, like she is, she's a grandmother. And she's making these like sad, sad comments on Instagram being like, yeah, you know, well, sometimes men just don't turn. And it's like, oh, my God. I, yeah, if I, if my mom was on Instagram like that, I would be, I would have, that would be a conversation we were having behind the scene.
Starting point is 00:03:49 I would be like, mother. My mom one time asked me. She's like, so what, like, asked me about like Snapchat. I go put your fucking phone down. Like, no. We have now turned into the people, the adults. The children now are the adults making the decision. My mom likes Facebook, but Instagram, she's never, she has an Instagram account, but she never, I don't think she even, like, goes on it, let alone, like, posts things.
Starting point is 00:04:15 But, yeah, parents on social media, it's a, it's a whole other world. It should be a documentary. Okay, but speaking, you know, Vicki's had some rough relationships, and you know who else has had some rough relationships? Sheena Shea. And this, today we're talking about Vanderpump rules. And I got to say, um, those red flags from Brock are starting to pile up. Those weren't even red. They weren't even red.
Starting point is 00:04:40 I don't know what color they were. They were like flaming hot Cheeto flags, you know, like the hot and spicy and extremely red. and they're going to get all over your hands and you're going to have to wash them until your hands are raw. Like, we, okay, this season of Vanderpump Rules, I know you and I have been on the same page. It has not been our favorite.
Starting point is 00:05:01 This episode, I actually was entertained by just because I couldn't believe how bad it was. How much. It's like every time Brock is on screen, there's like a new red flag and they're not just like little things. It's like, oh my God.
Starting point is 00:05:19 And I want the best for Sheena, but like, is this, is this the best? This episode in particular, just with everything that went on, like the progressless party, which we'll talk about. But like everything, like everything was like, it made me question if producers were like, fuck, we fired too many people from the old cast. So, okay, so a quick little note because I know this has kind of been an undercurrent of the whole season. Ariana did write on Twitter that they had a shutdown of filming because of COVID reasons. I think around the time of this episode, they stopped filming for like 10 days. And she said that with Brock's proposal wedding, whatever plan, that there were other events that would have been better options than James's engagement party weekend that got canceled because of COVID. but that still doesn't mean that James and Raquel's engagement party trip is the time.
Starting point is 00:06:24 And, you know, I guess we've sort of, I've, like, backed my way into talking about this. But so basically, it's Brock's idea. They're all going away for James and Raquel's engagement party, which, like, first of all, I think that's stupid. Like, I'm not traveling for your engagement party. Did they say, though, where it is? Like, how far is this venue? They said it last. It's in, like, Santa Inaz, I think, which I don't, I'm not.
Starting point is 00:06:47 a California person. Actually, let me look it up. Because I wanted to know, like, how, like, what the distance is for them to actually go to. Because I know they've traveled to Palm Springs, blah, blah, blah. But so I guess they're going for like a few days. And it's Brock's big idea that he is going to propose to Sheena at home before this weekend. And then while they're on this trip, just Sheena, Brock, Tom Sanival, and Ariana are going to sneak away and do a secret wedding moment. And I just think this is like the world's worst idea. And Tom and Ariana seem to think so too, but not enough to where they actually talk Brock out of doing it. They're just like, it has to be a secret.
Starting point is 00:07:28 If anyone listening, if anyone in the world, anyone thinks this isn't a bad idea, like you have to like think things through. Because. Okay. So from from Sir to Santa Anaz, California, is like, you have to. a little over a two hour drive. Oh, okay. So it's not that far away, but it's, I mean, they're going away for a weekend. Right. Um, so I feel like he's so, like I get that what you're saying. Like, yes, but that these are real life events, not just filming. So like, you, you could find another time to do this. Like, you don't have to do this at James and Raquel's engagement party.
Starting point is 00:08:12 Haven't you ever heard anyone be like, you better not get proposed to at my wedding? Like, you just, You just don't do that. That's so classless. Well, and I think there's also this undercurrent. Not only is it clear that they want to make this happen within the filming schedule, which, you know, I understand they are on a TV show, but like getting married is a bigger problem than filming for a show. But there's this other undercurrent of it feels like Brock really doesn't want to pay for a wedding. and that even if he and Sheena want to get married quickly, don't want to have a long engagement, plan a whole wedding. Like, even if that's the case,
Starting point is 00:08:52 it feels like Brock doesn't even want to pay for something small and fast and private. Like, he just literally doesn't. He's like, this is the only way I can get away with literally having zero wedding. Girl, Winter is so last. season. And now Springs got you looking at pictures of tank tops with hungry eyes. Your algorithm is feeding you cutoffs. You're thirsty for the sun on your shoulders. That perfect hang on the patio sundress. Those sandals you can wear all day and all night. And you've had enough of shopping from your couch. Done hoping it looks anything like the picture when you tear up on that envelope. It's time for
Starting point is 00:09:33 a little in-person spring treat. It's time for a trip to Ross. Work your magic. All new drinks are now at McDonald's, with refreshers like the strawberry watermelon refresher, and the mango pineapple refresher with popping boba to crafted sodas like the Spriteberry blast with berry flavors and cold foam. Who knew ice cold drinks could be so fire? Try them all now at McDonald's. Refreshers contain caffeine. Copyright 2026, the Coca-Cola Company.
Starting point is 00:10:07 Sprite is a registered trademark of the Coca-Cola. call a company. Okay. If you don't have money, we all, like, there are people who the actual wedding is not their priority. It's getting married to the person who's their priority. You have to get your shit in check. And if you don't have money for certain things, prioritize what you need. When he went to buy that ring, Dylan, I'm telling you, I have never in my life. I was like, like this was almost as bad to show on TV, obviously I'm being dramatic, than like the Jen shot. This was like wild.
Starting point is 00:10:48 Multiple credit cards. They didn't even say how many. He said three cards, but when he put out the numbers, it wasn't as much as. Exactly. Because he said it was 25,000. And he said 4,000 on each. It was like 12 total that he put on the cards. So it's like he also was carrying a balance on top of everything that he charged.
Starting point is 00:11:06 And he's like joking about like not, not. being able to afford child support and like, which that should come first in general. And then like not being able to afford a wedding. Like so what are you doing? Like why did you feel and also a 12 carrot? Like no one's impressed with that because now I'm just being like pet it because it's like it was a little tacky. But okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:31 It kind of looks like to each their own, I do, I do think engagement rings are something where it's totally personal taste. But it looks like when you do the little, you know, at the front of the, like, diner, they'll have, like, a gumball machine and a little machine with, like, the, like, a ring that'll come in, like, a little plastic bubble. Yes. It kind of, it kind of is giving that vibe. Pretty, pretty princess. Yes. If that was a 12-carat diamond ring, that would be, I can't even tell you how much money that ring would be.
Starting point is 00:11:58 So I feel like he was like, oh, I'll just, like, over-competitive, like, whatever into a 12-carat. I mean, if it was a 12-carat diamond, it would be like a million-dollar ring. Like- Can you imagine? I don't know. I mean, I wonder if I don't, it was just really, really, like, gross to watch that. I don't know why it affected me so much. I don't know. It was just weird.
Starting point is 00:12:19 And I get it. He loves her. I don't know. I feel like with the, with the situation that happened earlier in the season where Lala was digging around about his kids and his former partner in Australia, like, you couldn't get to the bottom of specifically what was happening with Brock because Lala was kind of. It looked messy on Lala's part. And, like, Brock was kind of like, you don't know the full story. And it's like, okay, maybe we don't. But with this, it's like we're watching him in real time clearly overextend himself financially
Starting point is 00:12:53 because he feels like he needs to give Sheena this ring. And then at the same time, they're talking about this pre-nup. And in that confessional moment where they're talking about how much she's invested in homebody. and they're kind of like disagreeing over how much it is. And clearly he really is like, when she disagrees with him, he feels like she's trying to like dig at him. And she's like, no, I don't care. It's just, it was more than 7,000.
Starting point is 00:13:23 Like, I don't, I'm not mad about it. But he clearly feels a way about that. And then there's the whole thing of, you know, paying his child support and all. Like, it just feels like we're watching someone who is in, a really awful financial position still continue to spend money on stuff like this. And it's like, you have bigger fish to fry right now than what weekend you're going to have your surprise wedding. Yeah. And let's not, like, not just to talk about the child support of his other two children. He has another, he has another newborn, like a current newborn that he also has to like support.
Starting point is 00:14:03 Yeah, I actually. And I'm not judging. I'm not talking about people's like, you know, family situations and what they're doing, but I'm like seeing that of the multiple credit cards because he said his credit in America is not good is like, what are you, you got to do something. You're totally right. And I also feel like what is their rush to get married? You know, they're talking about doing the pre-up, getting the ring, planning the ceremony, like, why does any of this need to happen right now? I mean, obviously, it's one thing if you want to be married, but it might not be, the right time. Go to the courthouse.
Starting point is 00:14:40 It feels like Sheena is still sort of in a bubble of like, this is a perfect relationship and a perfect man and I've never been more happy in my life. And I don't think that she's like lying about that. Like I think she is really happy with Brock. I think she wants to marry him. But I think she comes across a little naive or like she's going to get herself into a bad position again because she seems so unwilling to kind of acknowledge what everyone else sees in Brock. And it just makes me, makes me sad because I always just like, I want to like protect
Starting point is 00:15:19 Sheena. And I feel like she's kind of like, no, I don't need protection, but like I feel like she does. And it's funny because in the beginning of the season, you know, when we don't see all the cast members on like watch her up and live and like they would talk about like whose relationship. but they would always like kind of downplay Sheena and Brocks and we would I always like gave him the benefit of the doubt I don't know why I was just like whatever we don't know the whole story but yeah
Starting point is 00:15:43 you're right seeing that it was like well it's kind of it's kind of funny because on the show this season we've heard relatively little about Lala and Randall's relationship or James and Rekyll's relationship like none of them neither of those couples have really had problems this season on the show
Starting point is 00:16:01 I mean James and Rapelle a little bit and so it's funny to watch now that they've broken up that Sheena and Brock are the ones getting all of this you know kind of negative attention during filming but like I mean just because the other couples broke up
Starting point is 00:16:17 doesn't mean that Sheena's relationship is perfect and I'm curious at the reunion to kind of get a little bit more of a real time picture of like okay now that these breakups have happened we don't like what's up with Sheena and you know, do things seem to be going well?
Starting point is 00:16:36 Because I... She's just going to cry. Well, they ask her a question. I feel like she and Brock are probably going to go into the reunion with like a unified front and holding hands. And they've probably like agreed on what all their answers are going to be. Like that's how I see it going down because I feel like Sheena isn't going to let people come for her man. And I get that. But at the same time, it's like maybe just, maybe just listen a little bit.
Starting point is 00:17:03 Reunions remind me of, like, end of the year or, like, mid-year, like, reviews at, like, jobs, because it's, like, you can do whatever you want and have fun and, like, do your job that you're supposed to do. And then the reunion comes, and it's like, you get asked the questions and, like, where were you, what were you doing? What was your plan? What was your idea? Like, and you have to have, like, your answers sorted out. What are your goals for next year? How are you going to bring it? Okay, so we've talked a lot about Sheena and Brock, so let's pivot now to the business relationships happening on the show. Oh yeah, wait, one thing talking about money, just a small tip bit. I need to point out the fact that Raquel thought she could do her entire engagement party of $150 worth of flowers. Like, I feel like she doesn't know that like a bouquet is a hundred, like one bouquet. $150 is like two vases of flowers. Yeah, so I feel bad, but she's learning. And also doesn't have to do it anymore.
Starting point is 00:18:12 I know, that's the thing. She doesn't have to be a bride zilla because she's not a bride anymore. Oh, that was sorry. But so this episode, we have sort of new developments on both Schwartz and Sandys and Katie and Ariana's alleged gourmet sandwich shop, which we learn. is going to be called Something About Her. They launched the Instagram
Starting point is 00:18:34 last night, so it's... How do you feel about this name? Okay, so I don't understand how it goes with sandwich. Like, I don't get... I think they're really taking the idea of the...
Starting point is 00:18:53 What author did they say? Nancy or... The author. I don't know. Whatever. They wanted to be like a, the notebook like that, like seeing it. And I feel like that name goes with that. But, but, but, and I can envision, if I close my eyes, I can literally envision Katie and
Starting point is 00:19:11 Ariana behind the counter with their cute little like aprons on and like making sandwiches and like serving pastries. Like I really could. I just want to see it like in person. Like I just, I don't know. Like a chabana bread. I love how Katie's like, yeah, I mean, it's rough to go into business with your friends. because then if it goes wrong, it's your business and your friendship.
Starting point is 00:19:33 But with Ariana, I don't really have to worry about that. I kind of, I don't disagree that it probably works in their favor, that they're not like besties outside of this. Yes, but at the same time, their husbands are business partners, so that could go terribly wrong. Yeah, there's, you know, all of the, everything in this episode is basically a red flag. They have a little meeting with Lisa, which, you know, is cute. I don't think, I don't know. I sort of want Lisa to stop investing in these people's businesses
Starting point is 00:20:04 just because it seems like a vicious cycle that we're never going to get out of. She's not investing in this. Not right now. We'll see. Ready to soundtrack your summer? Starting point is 00:21:09 Watch only on Prime. But then over in Schwartz and Sandy Land, not much has happened, but we decide that it is time for a progress party. And I would just like to say that I feel like having a progress party should require some kind of physical progress. Yeah, I feel like you're not the only one that thinks that. And it very much seems to me like nothing has actually happened. Like they have secured the space, but there doesn't seem to be progress in terms of the bar.
Starting point is 00:21:47 And, you know, it's funny, I guess not funny for them. On the show, they're talking about, can we finish this in a month? Okay, maybe three or four months is more realistic. And now in real life, it's like six or seven months later. and the bar's not open. So it's like this feel, it's hard to really like feel optimistic about this when it seems like they are so behind.
Starting point is 00:22:16 It's, it's not even like behind. I feel like they truly don't even have a vision for this. Like Lisa always asks them the question. Like Tom is like, mind your bit and she needs to mind her business because he just doesn't like being told what to do. But Lisa knows what she's doing. Like I don't understand why.
Starting point is 00:22:32 He can't just give her that credit. Like she's fully aware of what to do. Yeah. And like she's asking the right questions of things you need to think about, like, and your budget and how much it's going to cost and like these ideas that you have. And it was funny when they did this for Tom Tom, either last season or two seasons to go at this point. I don't know. And it was like under construction. So it was cool for everyone to go and like see it.
Starting point is 00:22:56 But this, you're right. They just like kind of bought the place and they're like, this is it. Which would have been a good idea to say this is it, but they called it a progress party and there's, they didn't even start the construction yet. The floors, the ceiling, the paint, like nothing. All the decor and stuff was left from the last restaurant. The Mexican flags and stuff. It's like, yeah, like, why do you feel like it's time to have a party? Like, what's the, what are you celebrating? You're just having people over for drinks. There's no, like, point to it. And Tom made all the drinks, like, in his own. kitchen and brought everything, like, or is that what they're going to be like, are they just testing it out? Like, I don't know. I mean, and also I wanted to know, like, I don't know if they mentioned that sign was just a joke or if that's the sign. Yeah, it's a little unclear to me. Raquel hopes it's a joke and I sort of do too. She's so funny. She goes, maybe they should use a mood board. I will say, like, I agree with Tom Sandoval that it is technically none of Lisa's
Starting point is 00:24:01 business because it's not her business, you know, it's not her company. But she is not wrong. And she also wants the best for them. Right. So I think it's like, I can acknowledge that from their point of view, it's like Lisa stay out of it. But also it's like if you're walking into these into these traps and Lisa is going to point it out, like it could still be helpful advice. And it seems like they are like kind of floundering and I don't know. Like I want everyone on this show to succeed. There's no one on this show right now. It's not like when like Jacks was here and like everyone and I was like fuck Jacks. It's like I want them to be able to be successful and it feels like they're having trouble on the path to success. Listen, the more places they open, the more
Starting point is 00:24:55 places we have to go in LA. So like I hope. And also about the sandwich shop when they said they wanted to be unapologetically feminine. What the fuck does that mean for a sandwich shop? Like, what is that? Yeah. Maybe they just mean like the decor of the sandwich shop. I don't know. Maybe. Maybe. We'll see. Something about her. Like what I, I am like trying to figure out if that name connects to sandwiches in any way and I have not been able to come up with. And their logo, it's like S-A-H, like S-A-H, like Saa. But, and it's fancy. Salami and ham.
Starting point is 00:25:36 So I was like, I wonder, just picture ham for some reason. I just picture ham. I don't know. S-Sah-Sour-dough and whole wheat. Like I wanted to be like green eggs and ham, but it's not. I don't. We'll see. Best of luck.
Starting point is 00:25:58 I don't know. Sourdough and hummus. I don't know. But yeah, we'll see how this goes. But so Brock and James, you know, sort of start to get into it at this progress party. Because James has decided that he is no longer planning on stopping smoking weed, which I mean honestly like I feel like it's James's life he can decide what works for him if he's gone two years without drinking like good for him I don't know like I don't feel I don't
Starting point is 00:26:39 like to me like smoking weed doesn't seem like destructive enough that I'm like how are you doing this to yourself but also it's like I definitely don't think Brock gets to have an opinion on this yeah he tries too hard to educate like other people in the group and he doesn't have that like, um, foundation yet. Right. Brock, Brock acts like he's some kind of life coach to the people in this group. And it's like, I don't actually, you haven't shown me that you have your shit together
Starting point is 00:27:07 any more than James or anyone else in this group. So like, you know, if you want to talk to someone as a friend, that's great. But like, you don't know James in a way that's like, no, bra. Actually, I think you should stop smoking weed. It's like, okay. Like, um, Thank you so much. I don't know. We'll circle back and get back to you how that does. Yeah. And it's, I feel like especially leading into them going on this trip where he's trying to have the secret wedding. It's like, maybe you should just like be extra careful not to get on James's bad side because you're like about to do something that could really go badly for you on his trip. So funny how they timed that out perfectly though. Like ended this episode with an argument and then going right into something that could. obviously, um, escalate. So, who-hoo. I know. I'm like, I feel like I'm weirdly, I'm like finally
Starting point is 00:28:03 sort of getting into this season just because it is such a mess. Um, and also, you know, I guess I'm, I'm happy that we're not watching the like Tom versus Katie stuff anymore. Like, they seem to have kind of figured that out, at least for the moment. Um, but yeah, I don't know. We'll see what, see what happens on this trip. It can't go well. So. Well, it's just, yeah, and it's hard to wrap my head. It's not going well. I can't just not say it's not going well in real life either because, like, is this an
Starting point is 00:28:36 engagement party that was completely wasted? You know? Well, at least they only spent $150 on the flowers if it was. I know. We'll see. And everyone's wearing their earth tones. Can't wait to see the looks. Oh, sweet Raquel.
Starting point is 00:28:50 Sweet, sweet Raquel. Lovely girl. Lovely girl. Hope she has a great 2022. I think that's going to do it for us today. Thanks so much for listening, everyone.
