Starting point is 00:00:40 With me, Dylan Hafer. We're going to check me, both. Hey, everyone. Welcome back to the Mentioned All podcast. I'm Dylan Hafer. It is Thursday, and I just have to say right off the bat. I had plans for today's episode that simply did not come to fruition. Look, yesterday, I had a great recording.
Starting point is 00:01:04 with my friend Gibson-Johns. I hope you listened to that episode. I hope you enjoyed it. And then pretty much immediately after that, I was hit with a case of a stomach bug, of food poisoning, you know, whatever you like to call it. It wasn't a great rest of the day for me. And I'm still on the mend, I would say. But anyway, one of my plans for today's episode was to catch up on Top Chef. I've fallen a couple weeks behind. There's been a lot going on. And you know what? This season has not been as must-see TV-ish
Starting point is 00:01:41 as the last couple seasons of Top Chef, I hate to say. I don't know what it is if it's something about the level of cooking, the contestants, the location. I do miss Padma, though I think Kristen Kish is a good host. You know, I don't know if I'm the only one. I think Top Chef, I still love it. I just, this season has, it's been a little bit lower down the list for me. But anyway, I was thinking, yes, I will catch up. Wednesday is going to be my top chef. Catchup day. We're going to get up to date. And let me just say that when you are experiencing some gastrointestinal frustrations, that watching several hours of a food-based competition show is not really what you want to be doing. I sat down. The first episode that I
Starting point is 00:02:32 needed to watch to catch up was the sausage episode. If you are up to date on Top Chef, you will recall that from a couple weeks ago, but I did, I made it through, but watching and hearing and listening and seeing that amount of sausage and that amount of discussion of sausage and other foods and just food in general was really not something that I needed in my life yesterday. And I think I probably
Starting point is 00:02:58 could have, I could have anticipated that, but I just didn't. So I am not fully caught up on top chef yet. I will get there. I promise. I'm not giving up on this season. But I don't know. I mean, the sausage episode was perfectly enjoyable, I guess. They did sort of a creative team format where they were, you know, trying to win different innings against each other with different kinds of sausage. I just like, I think it's like a secret sauce kind of thing that's missing. And it's not like a sauce you put on sausage. It's like a, it's like a TV production element. And I don't know what it is, but I can't be the only one. I also want to talk about, this is going to be kind of a random episode, just putting it out there. Obviously, things have not gone to plan this week,
Starting point is 00:03:44 but we still have plenty to talk about. So if you're listening, keep listening. I want to talk about Kyle Richards and some comments that she made this week, where else on Amazon Live? Of course, all of our Bravo Amazon Live girlies, when they've got TV. to spill when they've got, you know, things to break their silence on. Where are they going to do it? They're going to do it on their Amazon Live platform. So Kyle, on Amazon Live this week, talked about some of the latest tidbits about Real Housewives of Beverly Hills next season. She confirmed after, you know, a great deal of suspense for all of us that she is returning to the show, like, L.O.L. She was like, she's like, maybe I'll get in trouble for saying this,
Starting point is 00:04:23 but what are they going to do to me? It's like, Kyle, babe, like, you put a diamond in your Instagram caption last weekend. I don't think anybody's like under a huge like shroud of mystery of whether you're coming back to the show. But anyway, she did, she elaborated a little bit on coming back for the season. She said, I was torn because it's been a long time since I've been on the show and last year was hard. And I had to read this about four times before I, I sort of like understood what she was saying. Because at first it's like, it's been a long time since I've been on the show. It's like, no, it hasn't. You've never not been on the show. It's been like a couple months since you did the reunion. like, that's normal. You never left. But I think she means like, it's, I've been on the show for a long time.
Starting point is 00:05:04 For, you know, 15 years now. It's, it has been a long time. And last year was hard. And she says that she needed some lightness and some time after the reunion. And I get all of that. But look, does anybody really think that Kyle Richards was like seriously considering walking away from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills? Was there ever a moment in her head where truly she was like ready to not sign that contract? Because I just, I have a hard time believing it. And I guess someday Kyle will walk away or they'll show her the door, whichever comes first. But it's funny because I feel like she kind of does this every season. Like whether it's Amazon Live or whether she's at some event and somebody,
Starting point is 00:05:56 asks her, we always get that sound bite from Kyle that's kind of like, oh, well, I don't know how long I can keep doing this. And, you know, the girls make it so hard. And, you know, I have, you know, so much going on at my family and, and, you know, whatever. And I, we'll see. And then, of course, she always does. She never, she's never not come back to the show. So at this point, it's a little bit like, boy who cried, well, if it's a girl who cried, I'm ready to not be a housewife anymore. We'll see. When push comes to shove, the contract gets signed, the diamond gets secured, and it is what it is. She did also address the question of whether Mauricio will be appearing on this upcoming season of Real Houseways of Beverly Hills, but it's a little interesting. So she said
Starting point is 00:06:42 that she is sure Maricio will appear on the show because obviously he's family. And this to me, she's using the word sure, but what it actually says to me is that they haven't really talked about. it. To be fair, they did just start filming, so it's not like, it's not like they've really like filmed the whole season yet, and she's commenting on that. But when she says, like, I'm sure he'll be there, because of course he's family. It's like, so you don't have plans to film with him right now. Like, you're not, he's not like coming over tomorrow to film a scene. You haven't, like, set a date. You haven't, there's, he hasn't signed a contract. And while I, I don't necessarily not believe that we'll see Mauricio,
Starting point is 00:07:23 next season on Real Housewives, I do feel like he is probably having his own strategic thought process about that with, you know, either with himself or whoever's on his team, with Netflix people for buying Beverly Hills. I think Mauricio, in terms of Beverly Hills appearances, I think he's going to do whatever he feels makes the most sense for him. And that, now that he and Kyle are not like on paper together or like trying to work through things, she did, she confirmed that he moved out into that condo that he bought in West Hollywood. Like, I don't know if Mauricio's like strategic plan is going to include showing up for Beverly Hills filming more than once or twice this season.
Starting point is 00:08:13 And even that, we might be lucky. Because we all watched last season. I don't think he wanted to be there that bad. in the first place. He's had like up and down relationships with filming over the years, but with all the separation stuff, he did not seem to be like super jazzed to be showing up on Bravo's schedule. One other thing, Kyle addressed the Dorit and Piquet situation.
Starting point is 00:08:37 She said she feels bad for them. You know, whatever, nothing interesting. But technically she broke her silence. Love that. So good, so good. Everything you want for summer is at Nordstrom Rwra. stores now and up to 60% off. Stock up and save on the brands you love like Vince, Sam Edelman, Frame, and Free People.
Starting point is 00:09:00 Join the Nordy Club to unlock exclusive discounts, shop new arrivals first, and more. Plus, buy online and pick up at your favorite rack store for free. Great brands, great prices. That's why you rack. Girl, winter is so last season. And now Springs got you looking at pictures of tank tops with hungry eyes. Your algorithm is feeding you cutoffs. You're thirsty for the sun on your shoulders.
Starting point is 00:09:26 That perfect hang on the patio sundress. Those sandals you can wear all day and all night. And you've had enough of shopping from your couch. Done hoping it looks anything like the picture when you tear up on that envelope. It's time for a little in-person spring treat. It's time for a trip to Ross. Work your magic. Speaking of Kyle's on Bravo,
Starting point is 00:09:49 have you guys noticed this situation or non-sense? situation or something that's happening with Amanda Petula and Jesse Solomon. It's a little weird, but to me, it's weird in a way where it's like weird because it's an inside joke and we don't have the backstory versus weird in the sense that something's actually going on. Essentially, the TLDR, it's pretty simple. If you look on Kyle and Jesse's social media over the last week or two, they have been leaving sort of outwardly flirtatious comments, sort of suggestive comments on each other's posts in a way that is very much, feels coordinated. It's not like when I see a photo that my friend uploads and I'm like, damn, you know, who's taken you home tonight? Like, it's very much this is something that they're like doing together.
Starting point is 00:10:45 And so I've seen some chatter about this. it's like, oh, like, eyes emoji, eyes emoji. Is Amanda cheating on Kyle with Jesse? Like, messy Scandival 2.0. And the thing is like, okay, first of all, Amanda's not dumb. And I think that especially in the post-scandival era, if you were going to be fooling around with somebody who's on your cast, when you're also in a relationship with somebody else who's on your cast,
Starting point is 00:11:12 I think you would be like going above and beyond to cover up the tracks. not to like put the tracks on comments by Bravo. Right? Also just the way they're doing it. And Amanda, Amanda responded sort of to this, I don't want to even say controversy, to this like conversation on TikTok because on TikTok, you know, or if you don't know, good for you for staying off TikTok.
Starting point is 00:11:38 There's like a, on videos, there will be a search suggestion that shows up at the bottom based on whether it's something related to the video or something related to the creator. and enough people were talking about this that on one of Amanda's videos that had nothing to do with Jesse, the search suggestion that showed up was Jesse's name.
Starting point is 00:11:57 And so somebody commented on this, they were like, not the search suggestion being Jesse Solomon. And Amanda replied to that comment with a video, and basically it was like a sound that was like, you know, it's never going to happen, like, whatever.
Starting point is 00:12:09 And she basically said, like, this is the only time I'm going to comment on this. Which makes me think that she obviously thinks it's ridiculous. It's some kind of joke. We don't know, but I am a little bit like, who all is in on this joke? Like, does Kyle think it's funny that Jesse's joking about getting with his girl? Because when that happened with Paige earlier this season, like, it was squashed with a quickness. Anyway, I don't know. The one other thing I want to talk about today, this actually was announced last week, and I feel it kind of flew under the radar.
Starting point is 00:12:41 So around this time of year with up front's happening, Bravo always makes a lot of announcements about shows that are renewed, new shows that are happening, kind of what to expect for the year ahead. And it's really for advertisers more than anyone, but it also gives us a little peek at what is kind of coming down the pipeline from Bravo. And so in addition to a lot of things being renewed, that was like, you know, the Valley getting a season two, basically everything is coming back. But they revealed two new shows, and these are working titles right now. The first one to me, I don't know. It's called On Sofell. and it's essentially a below-deck but on safari.
Starting point is 00:13:22 It says it's set in the heart of the South African bush, and it explores the spectacular world of the most luxurious safari experiences in the international group of guides who create once-in-a-lifetime moments for their adventure-seeking clientele. So it's literally below-deck on the, you know, on safari. Creative. It could be good. It could be boring, whatever.
Starting point is 00:13:42 Clearly these kind of shows work for them. But the other one I think is a little more interesting, and I want to talk about that. And this show, the working title is Making It in Manhattan. And here is the synopsis. I'm just going to read. Making it in Manhattan takes a bite out of the big apple to follow a tight-knit group of friends who navigate the trials and triumphs of young adulthood in the city. While some hail from the spotlight of well-known families, others have created a legacy of their own.
Starting point is 00:14:07 But they are all looking to thrive in the city that never sleeps. Together they will challenge societal norms, redefine successes, juggle personal and romantic relationships and lean on each other for support in order to turn skyline high aspirations into reality. Okay, so this sounds interesting. Like all of these new shows that get announced, we don't know what they're going to be like if they're going to be good until they actually happen. But what really interests me about this show is that for Bravo to be doing a series about a group of young adult friends in New York City trying, you know, try to make it, It kind of sounds like Summerhouse.
Starting point is 00:14:47 Obviously, Summerhouse has this sort of construct of spending the weekends in the Hamptons, and that's the main focus. But in terms of the demographic that it's following, it sort of feels like it would be in that slot. And so I'm wondering, it feels like this season more than ever, there have been conversations with Summerhouse about sort of like, what is the end game here? How long do these people really have left on this show? show and I'm wondering if making it in Manhattan is sort of at least somewhat intended as like
Starting point is 00:15:21 a new show to fill that spot. I haven't seen any rumors or anything about who's going to be on the cast. I don't know if they've cast it yet. I don't know if there's going to be any kind of like returning people, but I'm keeping my eye on this because I feel like there's potential there for it to be kind of like Summerhouse the next generation. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm right. I don't know. We'll see. But yeah, who knows? That's why Ali's science back support is made with a blend of melatonin and L-D-A-N-E for both kiddos and grown-ups.
Starting point is 00:15:54 So when your mind won't switch off, you've got something that can help. Erasing thoughts and restless nights won't stand a chance. Find Ollie's sleep solutions for the whole family at ollie.com. That's OLL-L-Y.com. When you finally find your thing,
Starting point is 00:16:11 you want the whole world to know about that thing. So you use a thing called Canva to make it an even bigger and better thing. Whether you want to create flyers for that thing, make presentations for that thing, or design merch for that thing, you can do anything. So people can see your thing,
Starting point is 00:16:29 feel your thing, love your thing. The next thing you know, it's a thing. Canva, the thing that makes anything a thing. This episode is brought to you by a splash refresher. I believe in that three beverage rotation
Starting point is 00:16:45 on my desk at all times. That's one for caffeinating, one for hydraines, and one for fun. But Splash puts the fun and hydration in one. It's delicious, bright, flavorful, and zero calories. So I don't have to think about what I'm going to reach for when I'm thirsty because obviously it's splash.
Starting point is 00:17:02 It is finally starting to heat up outside. And this summer, it is so important to stay hydrated, stay refreshed, stay quenched at all times. And the way I'm going to be doing that is with a splash refresher. I'm sitting here with an assayy grape right now. It's one of my flavors of choice. But, you know, I think they're all my flavor. of choice. These last few weeks, I have loved having splash in the rotation. And so today, we are going
Starting point is 00:17:24 to talk one more time about which Housewives are in the splash zone. Who is in the hot seat and who is making the biggest splash in the Bravo universe this week? We got some news this week. Some news that I think was whatever the opposite of surprising might be. I think you would say quite unsurprising. as Real Housewives of Potomac gets into production for season nine, surprise, surprise, people has reported that NECA, him won't be part of the upcoming ninth season. She told people in an exclusive statement, you know, we've all been on the, you know, waiting,
Starting point is 00:18:01 waiting on tenterhooks for this. She said, I will not be returning for season nine of RHOP. At this point, after multiple felt fertility procedures, I've decided to make expanding my family my ultimate priority. Thank you to the fans that have supported me along the way this season, especially regarding my difficult IUI-interned IVF journey and the stigma surrounding infertility. All of the kind remarks have genuinely kept me uplifted
Starting point is 00:18:24 and have fueled my determination to continue to share my story. She goes on to express her, quote, sincere appreciation to Bravo and truly original for the opportunity. And she says, as a true resident of Potomac proper, 208-5-4, just know that I'll be seeing you all again soon. First of all, I one million percent support her doing whatever she needs to do in her fertility journey. Obviously, I think one of the best things about Housewives is that people have opened up about that, have created conversations, have really changed the narrative around those
Starting point is 00:18:58 things, and I fully support her doing that. But can we just back up for a second and say that that's not the reason she's not going to be on season nine of Real Housewives of Potomac? I mean, really. I have to put in the splash zone. Anyone who, can't just kind of come out there and say that they didn't get their contract renewed. And this is something where there are housewives that I have not really been fans of, but I have appreciated and respected the way that they are honest about their departure from the show. I mean, we just saw Robin do it a few weeks ago. She said I was fired.
Starting point is 00:19:32 And the fact that NECA waited to do this and then is, you know, making it about her personal journey, it's like, that is all well and good. That's not why you're not doing the show. You better really if she would be on a second season if they offered her that contract, I assume. I always respected the way Teddy Mellencamp left Housewives. She said, I was fired. I'm not going to come out here and say, oh, after careful consideration with my family, we've decided that we should focus. It's like, no, as we've said all the time, the number of Housewives that have really, truly left on their own terms is shorter than you think. I actually think Candice Dillard pretty much did
Starting point is 00:20:09 this season. Because Candace was out there before the reunion even finished airing, she said, you know, I'm not coming back. And then she announced her pregnancy. You know, she's doing her own thing. She's focusing on her music. She did it in a way that makes it feel believable that she made a decision to walk away. Now, I don't 100% know that her contract would have been renewed. I think it would have. But by announcing early, you earn yourself the kind of treatment of walking away. Whereas NACA, it's like, girl, those decisions have been made. Even before there were like rumors and word on the street, I don't think anybody was expecting you to get a second season. It's kind of like Anna Marie did this in Beverly Hills not that long ago. It's like, you can put out the long statement if you want,
Starting point is 00:20:53 but we all understand how this works. We've been around the block. We didn't just, you know, fall out of the coconut tree. You exist in the context of all the housewives that came before you. NECA, I wish you all of the best, but it won't be on our TV screens. And I don't think that's by choice. If you're on Housewives and you get fired, just say it. I don't think anybody, you know, we're at a point in the culture where if you have something else interesting to bring to the table, there will be an avenue for you to do so. And if that's not on Housewives, it can be something else. I mean, we're watching Jill Zeran and Kristen Doty on The Goat right now on free V. Well, I'm not watching it. Maybe I will. Should I? There are lots of other opportunities out there. You know, you could be on stars on Mars if that happens again. You could be on what else? Probably not traders. I like to think their standards are a little higher. And also, NECA, walking out the door with the true resident of Potomac, the zip code dis 208-5-4.
Starting point is 00:21:51 You know, Karen was saying she lived in North Potomac. Whatever. You know where Karen lives on our TV screens for the last decade? And at a certain point, I just, I can't be bothered. It's like, Potomac is one of those shows where, like, the way that they talk about who does and doesn't live in Potomac. has never really stuck in the same way that I feel like they see it. I'm like, okay, so it all seems like you guys are spending a lot of time in the car to hang out. So I'm not like, not super concerned with like who's technically within the limits.
Starting point is 00:22:25 It's not like a New York where the neighborhoods are like very, you know, it's just whatever. Anyway, so long to NECA. You know who else is kind of in the splash zone this week, though? I got to get this off my chest. Why in 2024? do we still have to put up with Megan McCain on Watch What Happens Live? Isn't there anyone else? What is going on here?
Starting point is 00:22:50 Why? There are a certain group of people that have earned a spot in this like celebrity bravo club of people who are friendly with Andy who get invited on Watch What Happens Live every three months or so to pop off their new opinions and to get a couple headlines. It's the Megan McCain's. It's the Michael Rappaport's. It's the, I don't know, it's really those two. Why? Why are we still doing this in 2024? Do you know how many Bravo watching personalities there are out there? Do you know how many people would drop whatever they're doing if you book them a flight to New York and show up on Watch What Happens Live? Call up Matt Rogers.
Starting point is 00:23:38 I'm sure he's free. Hey, call up me. I did not intend to turn this segment into like me begging to be on Watch What Happens Live, but if that's what it came to, I would gladly sit next to Melissa Gorga to save everyone from 30 minutes of Megan McCain on a Sunday night. Is that a non-popular opinion? If so, sue me. But I just, I don't know why we're still doing this in 2024. And every time it happens, I feel like we have the same conversation of like, really? Still? I don't know. I don't know. It's just, we, there's got to be something better. But anyway, so I don't know if that's Andy in the splash zone, Megan McCain in the splash zone.
Starting point is 00:24:16 I don't want to criticize the good people at Watch What Happens Live. Somebody's in the splash zone, though. Come on. Jennifer Lawrence was at the Glad Awards over the weekend. She didn't want to pop back down to Soho and do watch What Happens Live again. Anyway, Godspeed to whoever's booking Watch What Happens Live, because I know they do have a lot of slots to fill, but like, just,
Starting point is 00:24:35 give us something. to give us a little crumb. But anyway, thank you to our sponsor, Splash Refresher.
