We have a new season of Married to Medicine that just got started a couple weeks ago. And so we had to do it right with one of our Married to Medicine. Oh, geez. She is here all the way from Atlanta. Dr. Simone Whitmore. Hello.
Starting point is 00:00:51 Hey, hey, hey. Welcome to the show. Thank you for having me. Season 12. Yes. What does that feel like hearing 12 seasons? We're seeing flashbacks from 13 years ago on this show. Right.
Starting point is 00:01:04 You guys have really been. in, you know, on this roller coaster for a long time, you're still here, you're still doing it. Talk to me about season 12. It is unbelievable to be here in season 12, but amazing. I am grateful. And all of these ladies, I truly love. I want to choke them sometimes, but I love them. I'm like, I know there's more to this sentence.
Starting point is 00:01:29 Yes. I do think it's so interesting, though, because watching, you know, a decade plus of this group and this show, you know, we've had faces come and go, but you and Toya and Quad and Jackie, Heavenly and Contessa have been there, you know, since the early seasons. Yes. You have been through a lot of life with these women, whether or not you're getting along all the time. And the sisterhood on this show is such a, such an important part of it.
Starting point is 00:01:57 Yes, it is. How do you guys keep that going? Even when you're not always getting along with everybody, like keeping that kind of central tenant of the group. I think we all innately know that a lot of our drama is petty. And as we're aging and trying to mature a little bit, yes, we're trying. I think we know that when things, when things are really bad, we have a group of ladies that we know are going to support us. Any lady in this group could call me at any time saying that she needs me and I'm there whether I'm speaking to her this week or not. I thought it was yeah like on just on this past week's episode when Toya had the funeral
Starting point is 00:02:44 for Bailey's. Heavenly showed up, you know, they have their own issues which we saw later in that same episode. But it was like, okay, for today we're all here for Toya. Like you you have those moments where it's like there's the petty and there's the drama but then that's not the most important thing. It is not. Because again, at the end of the day, we're all professionals in our community. And there are so many facets to our lives and not just drama. Because you haven't been on the show before, I want to take it back a little bit to some of those early days of the show. What was it like for you as a professional in your career, a doctor still practicing?
Starting point is 00:03:26 You have not let it slip or whatever. Right. What was it like kind of decided? to add this big piece to your life and your career and everything that you already had going on? Well, you don't know what you don't know. And so when I initially agreed to do this show, I didn't know what it was going to be like to be filming. And then you abruptly learn that people are in your homes. They know your business.
Starting point is 00:03:56 And I would laugh whenever I would be in my office and a patient would say, oh, you have a really nice home. And I'm like, how do you know? And I'm like, oh, she's been in the great room. She's been in the kitchen. She's been in my bedroom. She's been in my car. She knows. But it has been an amazing journey to have friends, family, patience, supporting everything
Starting point is 00:04:20 about my life. Supporting my hard times with my marriage and telling me that they're praying for me. So that part is amazing. to have that kind of support. Well, I think with your show, because the sisterhood and also the marriages and the relationships are so central to the DNA of the show, people really do feel like they're connected to like your everything that you have going on in your life, not just the fights, not just the, you know, the trips or whatever.
Starting point is 00:04:54 It's like, no, like really, really invested in those journeys that you're on. And I think that that's not every show. has that same level of investment in like really the core of what people are going through. So I think, I mean, you mentioned with your marriage that reunion where you and your husband, you know, were apart and came back to you. That, I mean, that's like a historic moment. I mean, just talk about crazy. Well, I always say had it not been for that reunion, Cecil and I would be divorced.
Starting point is 00:05:26 because what other time would our friends be in our face telling us, hey, drop your pride, drop your ego. And we know that you can make this thing work. They were Toya, Eugene, Jackie, Heavenly, Damon. They were in our face. Andy? Andy, don't forget. They were in our face. Like, are you sure?
Starting point is 00:05:51 Because this doesn't sound insurmountable. So it was amazing to leave out of. they're knowing that we have a whole village of support to lean on. I think too, and we're able to make it. With what you specifically do as an OBGYN, I mean, you are involved with your patients in some of the most, you know, intimate and, you know,
Starting point is 00:06:12 private usually moments of their lives. And I think it's, it's almost like flipping the table a little bit that it's like, now I got to share some stuff on here. It's not what you would normally do as a doctor. What, yes, what you wouldn't expect. But I just wanted to. to make sure that in this country, blacks, African Americans,
Starting point is 00:06:32 we only make up 5% of all physicians in the country. And so if I could inspire just one little brown girl to become a doctor, that I've done my job on TV. I think it's incredible. I mean, we saw Kamala Harris on your show. You know, this show is like. Yes, Al Sharpton and being crump. Yes.
Starting point is 00:06:51 And I love every season, too. You guys always doing the medical missions when you go on your trips and things like that. I think it's also really unique the way that in the cast, too, like none of you guys have sort of evolved away from doing medicine or practicing. It's like you've really figured out that balance of we're going to see you in the office with the patients, you know, contested this season is building up her practice with her husband. That's like a whole new journey that they're going on, like that it's not like,
Starting point is 00:07:22 oh, I got on a TV show so now I don't have to be a doctor anymore. It's like really... Well, these are real careers that we've invested in. Went to college for four years, medical school for four years, training for four years. You cannot now just turn your back on that. And when I tell you, I have had a career that I love delivering babies during surgery, it gives me a high that doesn't come any other way. Definitely not fighting with caddy bees.
Starting point is 00:07:53 Well, speaking of, season three, 12. Season 12. Yes. You came into the season in an interesting place with Ms. Quad. You guys had some, you know, there was some comments about traders going on. There was some comments about a mortgage going on. Coming into the season, there was, you know, some baggage on both sides to be dealt with.
Starting point is 00:08:16 Yes. It feels like in the first couple episodes, we've made some progress. Yes. When you were going through the beginning of the season, kind of getting back into that rhythm of having to see everyone together. How was that for you navigating those early conversations with Quad this season? Well, I knew that we were, Quad and I would have a difficult time just based on reunion and leaving New York and not spending any time with each other since New York.
Starting point is 00:08:46 But we had a funny thing to happen a week before filming started. Quad had a birthday. she invited everyone to the birthday but on our group chat everyone was wishing her happy birthday so I'm like let me get in here I don't have any hard feelings let me say happy birthday
Starting point is 00:09:05 traders can say happy birthday too right and so I did that and she came back with a catty response saying oh thanks for the birthday wishes you and Cecil should drop by my party right Miss Quad doesn't just have a party she has an extravaganza. But I can just drop by your party.
Starting point is 00:09:29 Like, girl, bye. You're not going to have the right look. You're not going to have the right gift. Right, right. But it was funny. So I knew that as soon as I saw her, that first week of filming on camera, I would have to address that fake-ass invitation.
Starting point is 00:09:45 I like that you did that though, because right away at Dr. Mimi's polo, whatever it was, you brought it up right away and I think that almost it almost set the stage for you guys to start to move forward versus if you had said I didn't like the way she did that
Starting point is 00:10:02 I'm not going to talk to her or I'm going to pretend that we're okay when you had something to say I think that's kind of what you need at the beginning of a season Why and I do not pretend when things are not well we are honest
Starting point is 00:10:16 about the fact that they are not well we do not pretend with one another I have to say. That's one thing I can say is a plug in my relationship with her. I know where I stand at all times, the good and the bad. I was eating up that scene that you had with Jackie where you had the cheesecake factory that you were eating in the lounge or whatever, the bag with the brown bread. You said, I have this bag full of stuff I know about quad and I could tip over the bag.
Starting point is 00:10:45 I could dump out the bag. You can dump out the bag. Not tip over. What did brown bread ever do? to you. Well, I just wanted to make an analogy. A lot of times as a doctor, you have to give analogies. That was so great.
Starting point is 00:11:02 But I thought, I mean, it makes sense. Over the course of 12 seasons, they were doing the whole montage of Dr. Simone and Quad's relationship. And it's a lot of stuff in 12 years. She too has a bag full of brown bread on me. That's just what happens. We all... We've shared a lot with each other over the years.
Starting point is 00:11:22 She has a brown bag. She could empty out. She better not. But she could. Yeah. It's like we got a lot of season left to go. I do. And then at that, at Dr. Jackie's dance class, I guess it was.
Starting point is 00:11:35 We got a class that, you know, the quad, when she gets in the tears. Yes. When you've been on a show this long, I love seeing some of the old clips and moments go around on social media and stuff. And one of the ones that I will always stop and. watch is I think it was season two when quad, I think Mariah said something about friendship as a platform and quad is like, friendship is not a platform. You know, it was just so that real like emotional quad moment. You've dealt with a lot of those. I have. Quad is very emotional. She really is. But she just touches my heart in a way that some of the other ladies will
Starting point is 00:12:13 never touch my heart. So good, so good. Everything you want for Summer is at Nordstrom rack stores now and up to 60% off. Visit redbull.com slash bright summer ahead to learn more. See you this summer. What do you think about Toya and Heavenly's stuff this season? I think Toya was well within her rights to, come at Heavenly, Heavenly dogs out Toya's marriage, she dogs out Eugene, and to now say that you have something that's off limits, you can't. Not when you're busy dragging everyone else and
Starting point is 00:14:07 their families. Then you can't now claim that your heaviest moment in front of the camera is off limits. I'm curious because I was thinking about a couple seasons ago, Quad was, it seemed really close to being out of this group for good. You know, people really had questions about whether she was invested in the group, whether she wanted to be there. Yes. Whether she was invested in the sisterhood. Correct.
Starting point is 00:14:33 And at the beginning of this season, it seems like maybe some people have similar questions about Heavenly and her motivations. I noticed that at Bailey's funeral, people were like, oh, you know, she's here and it's not a photo op. It's, you know, kind of like those kind of things. Do you feel that at all with her? or do you think she has her own set of issues and quirks that are that are separate? I think that Heavenly has spent a lot of time, a lot of years on social media dragging most of us.
Starting point is 00:15:06 And that's not sisterhood. That's not real sisterhood. And how long can you treat us like that and we forgive you, we take you back in? And I think that that is. part of where she finds herself this year because people get tired of the negativity. And it's basically a large part of who she is. And now she's taking it to Washington, D.C.? And now she's taking it elsewhere.
Starting point is 00:15:36 Yes. Well, because she, so on the season, she announced that she was running for Georgia House. Yeah, she was running for state representative. And now she's running for U.S. Congress. Somebody has gassed her up to make her believe that she could get a U.S. Congress seat, baby. We'll see. And she's running against someone who not only has been there for many, many, many years,
Starting point is 00:16:00 but he's loved and he's given so much back to the Atlanta community. I don't know what delusional person told her that that seat was up for grabs. Well, we'll see. We will, won't we? She's got a whole year left in that campaign. No, she doesn't. May. No, she doesn't.
Starting point is 00:16:22 May 19. Clock it. Put a bit in that. Yes. I think you guys might be filming on May 19th of next year if we keep the calendar the same. I can't wait to see. Election night party. But the question would be, which party would I attend on election night?
Starting point is 00:16:47 Would it be the Dr. Heavenly Kimes party or would it be the winners party? Do you live in that district? No. Okay. No, no, no. Okay. So you don't, you don't technically have a dog in the fight. I don't have a dog in the fight. Okay. Maybe that's for the best. But I have a bone to pick.
Starting point is 00:17:04 So a lot of bones to be picked in 12 years. That's right. That's right. There you go. I mean, you guys always get into it with the YouTube's though, because you had a YouTube moment that is coming up this season where you and sweet tea were on there. But it wasn't my YouTube. I was on there and I made a joke. Right. And literally it's a lighthearted joke, who's going to help Quad pay her mortgage off? That is not that big of a deal. That's not deeper dangerous.
Starting point is 00:17:35 Come on now. It's actually a fair question. Is it going to be King? Is it going to be a new man? It was a fair question. I thought it was interesting. It was just a joke. I agree.
Starting point is 00:17:45 I agree. It was like, I did think it was interesting. You know, seeing Quad with King starting last season, it's been a long time since we, We've seen her on the show in a relationship that is to that level where her partner is on the show. I mean, Quad and Greg is way in the rearview mirror now. It really is. And so I do think it's interesting to see kind of like how she shows up with that side of herself on the show for the first time, really, that we're seeing. Well, I love King and Quad together.
Starting point is 00:18:19 I told Quad a long time ago, we want to see you dating. Yeah. And she just kept that part of her life very secret from us. And I'm like, we were real friends, really close friends. I don't know why there has to be a secret, but she kept it really secret. It was worth the wait because I love her and King together. I know you had a friendship with Sweet Tea. Did you?
Starting point is 00:18:43 Did I? Did you? I did. I'm just messing with you. You did? I did. I'm just messing with you. Did you have any kind of feelings about her not being on the? show this season or did you feel like it made sense kind of as an evolution with the group? Our friendship fell down. It left, fell down in the sand on the sandbar and pretty much we were
Starting point is 00:19:05 never able to pick it up and get back together after that. Okay. I do feel like, you know, with Quad in a relationship, it almost is like, it's been the Gregory show for for a long time in a way. And now it's nice to kind of be in a new era, I think. Yes. We have a few It was only the Gregory show, though, for season 10. You know, they highlighted bringing him in. Right, right, right. Bringing in his fiancee and then the wedding. And I feel like Quad, had she been around?
Starting point is 00:19:36 Yes. I don't think it would have been the Gregory show. Fair enough. Yeah. But she just wasn't around. So we have a few newer, newer women in the group. We do. I'm wondering for you, you know, being an OG, being on the show this long, has your
Starting point is 00:19:50 relationship with new faces in the group? change? Do you feel like it's harder to let new people in? Is it easier to let people in? How has that evolved for you over the years? I love when we get an opportunity to film with the newbies. I love it. I just encourage them, though, that you need to spend time with each and every person, every lady on the show versus just coming in and deciding in your head that you're only going to be with this person or clicked up with that group. Because I think it's important no matter what perception you thought you had about a person to spend one-on-one time with them.
Starting point is 00:20:31 And then you can always dispel that perception. But, you know, we have some new ladies. It's refreshing to have new faces, new energy around, and new perspective on things. And it's interesting to hear people's perspective with no experience. Yeah, basically. Well, I think sometimes when you've spent, you know, 10 years with somebody going back and forth to have somebody come in who maybe they've, maybe they've seen the show a little bit or maybe they know kind of the personalities, but they're like, come on now. Yeah. And then to have them giving me advice, well, you need to do this or you should have done that girl, bye.
Starting point is 00:21:12 Let me see you in 2015. Yeah, let me see you in 10 years. I'm doing exactly what works for me. Okay, so correct me if I'm wrong. But I think that brand. Andy and Angel are the first nurses that we've had on the show. Yes. Is that, do you feel like that's a different dynamic at all? Or do you have like feelings about that? Okay. The medical community is so tight.
Starting point is 00:21:34 We all need each other. We're there together. We're in the trenches together. Yeah. And so I thought it was amazing to have Brandy on. She owns her own med spa. I've been able to go over there, get micro-needling hair, laser removal. Like honey.
Starting point is 00:21:50 And she's selling all the facial. products like it's been a blessing to have her as a girlfriend close by. And Angel, she's an RN. Angels and R-N. I don't know as much about Angel. You'll have to ask Quad because they're besties. But I don't know as much about Angel, but it was a breath of fresh air. Having her, she's very positive.
Starting point is 00:22:11 She's very spiritual. And we need some of that in this group. Mm-hmm. I love every, you guys going on these couples trips every season. That's another thing about this show that's very unique. Yes. Most of these shows, getting the husbands, you know, to come along. Has Cecil always been down to participate in the way that the husbands kind of are expected to on this show?
Starting point is 00:22:37 Long before Cecil and I were on a show, we used to host couples' dinners and go on couple strips. And so we are big advocates for getting along with other couples because it helps you stay grounded in the fact that every couple is struggling with something. All of us are struggling with essentially the same bag of problems. Yeah. The in-laws, the kids, finances, should we buy a bigger house? We're all struggling with the same basic bag of problems. But yes, Cecil's been vested since day one in the couple's trip.
Starting point is 00:23:13 For that reason, it's one of the few shows where when the husbands have their own stuff going on, it doesn't feel like, oh, like, why are we talking about this? Like, who cares about these men? It's like, they're just as, you know, integral to the show as everybody else. And it really feels like, you know, going back to what you're saying about Quad, you know, and her dating life, it's like there is a piece almost missing. Like, we want to see all of that from all of you. Yes, yes, yes.
Starting point is 00:23:39 I think on the trailer for the season, you say it's like your 10th couples trip as a group maybe. What is it like kind of going on those trips now versus 10 years ago? Do you feel like you have like your more? more of a group leader in a way or, you know, how do you kind of... So you're making the assumption that I hosted the couples trip this year. Okay. I don't know who hosted the couples. I did not.
Starting point is 00:24:01 Okay. Yes, there was another couple who we passed the baton to. We felt that it would be great for somebody else to lead. We had family drama that just took us down and out as a couple. And so we felt that it was tied, a year for us to take a break. so we handed the baton to the next best couple to host. We'll see who the next best couple is. Yes, you will.

Starting point is 00:25:29 What's the difference between butter and butter made from real California dairy? It's the real California farm families behind it. Real people. Real care. Real intention. Why? Because real matters. So whether you're pouring milk,
Starting point is 00:25:48 melting cheese, or just grabbing one more spoonful of yogurt. Keep it real. Look for the seal. Real California milk by Real California Farm Families. I want to talk about Dr. Mimi, too, because she joined the show last season, but she's in the full-time capacity this year. Talk to me about the energy that she brings to the group because she is newer as well. Yes.
Starting point is 00:26:11 So as you know, Dr. Mimi is a psychiatrist, and she does a lot of psychoanalyzing us. and I have been able to spend a little, a tiny bit of time with her one-on-one, but I don't know her well. And so I think that she really has to spend the time with letting all of us get to know her well. There are a couple of people, I think, who have gotten to know her, but that's not the census in the entire group. That makes sense. I think like with a group like this, it's like everybody does have their own individual
Starting point is 00:26:50 relationships with one another, which is important. It is important. But then you also have to be really a member of the full group. You have to be a member of the total group to survive. And Contessa is probably one of the few castmates that have been able to come on and really insert herself everywhere and have staying power. Well, I think even for her thinking back, I mean, she didn't necessarily have a smooth route to establishing that.
Starting point is 00:27:20 Because I mean, thinking of the way that Heavenly would speak to Contessa. And then her in heavenly became best friends. And that's why I encourage newbies to spend time with every single castmate because you never know what could come of it. You have a perception before you get there. And then once you assimilate and start hanging out, you really have to spend time individually and not just at group events. With a group like this, especially that sisterhood doesn't happen overnight.
Starting point is 00:27:51 And I think we've had people, you know, you could be on this show for two or three seasons and still sort of feel like, okay, I'm pretty good with this person, but I'm still just kind of not sure where I stand with somebody else. I mean, I feel like, you know, somebody like Lisa Nicole or like Anila in the past, it was like they had, you know, great relationships with certain people in the cast. But it's tough to really like be. To get in there. Yeah, to get in there.
Starting point is 00:28:15 Got to infiltrate. Is there anyone from from married to medicine years past that you feel like had more potential that we didn't get to see her, was gone too soon, or you would bring back? I know we've had some people leave and come back on the show, but. I think Lisa Nicole was just a staple. And so, of course. Oh, God, she made me laugh. I know.
Starting point is 00:28:35 We'd love to see her back. And Anila. Anila still hangs out with several of us and comes around. And she definitely feels like her time was. cut short. Well, you never, I mean, it's a long... Never know. You've been to your 12 years.
Starting point is 00:28:51 You could do another 12. Who knows? Who did we? I want to talk a little bit about this is your, your first season since Fadra left the show. She was on for like one and a half. She's on for a little bit. Yeah. I don't think it necessarily went the way that people were intending for it to go.
Starting point is 00:29:10 I don't know. What were you kind of left with after she, you know, left for other things? I hate the way she left. Yeah. And I know that she was frustrated and she didn't like the fact that Apollo and his wife were on the couple's trip. It certainly made for an interesting tense dynamic. But she didn't even give us a chance really to talk through it or she just left mad. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:45 And I don't feel like that's the way ever to leave a group. But that is the way she left us. And you know, she and I are on speaking terms, but just barely you can tell that like she doesn't want to talk to me. But it's like I haven't done anything to you. I didn't call Apollo up and ask him to film with us. And I think Apollo is a nice person. I can't speak of the inner workings of their relationship. in their marriage because I wasn't there.
Starting point is 00:30:19 But when a relationship breaks down, two people are usually involved, not one. Well, I think that speaks to, you know, the way she left. I think it speaks to all of you as a group that have been there throughout these seasons have worked through and come back from some really tough moments. I mean, even thinking about a few years ago, you and Jackie, some of the stuff that you went through, which people hated to see because we love you together. Yes. But, and we hate it to be in it.
Starting point is 00:30:46 Right. And you could feel that. And I think it's that, that tension of when things aren't good and then seeing the effort and seeing how much it matters to figure out how to move forward. And that this is a show and a group where like that is so at the core of it that at the end of the day, no matter kind of what place you get to, you're going to put in that work and you're going to put in that effort to really like fix it. Yes.
Starting point is 00:31:11 And I think that without that, I don't think the show would be on for 12. seasons. I think that's a great point. So let me call Quad as soon as I leave here and let's see if we can fix it. Fix it, Jesus. I think Quad has put in a lot of that work over the years too and she's still here. Yes, she's still here. And she should never go anywhere. Yeah, we love Quad. Exactly. What do you think about, are there any moments from those early seasons? You know, it's been a long time your kids have grown up on this show. everybody's kids have grown up on the show. We were talking about seeing Ashton behind the wheel of a car. Are there any moments from those early seasons that you look back on or remember
Starting point is 00:31:54 or make you laugh that just kind of feel like those like encapsulations of the memories from this show? We have so many amazing memories as you can imagine over 12 years. Even when I look back at our eye shadow during season one, two, three. And I'm like, what were we thinking? We have full like watercolor paintings happening on those. I see people posting those, especially Quadimariah, more than anybody else. It was blue and yellow and green. I think back to just a simple misunderstanding at a Bowlin alley left me not speaking at
Starting point is 00:32:34 Matt at Toya for years. And I'm like, I could have squashed that. But so many moments, you know, that have been good. one of my favorite girls trip was going to Vegas. We had a ball in Vegas. I don't know if it, you know, if you could feel it through the TV. Yeah. We had a really good time.
Starting point is 00:32:56 We had a good time in New Orleans. We've had just some amazing times. And like we had a girls trip this year. We had some amazing moments during the trip. But that's us. We're going to have an amazing moment and then we're going to cut the fool. And we love you for it. 12 years later.
Starting point is 00:33:19 Cheers to season 12. I mean, you guys have been doing it for a long time and I hope we get to keep watching it. It's a blessing for sure. What are you most looking forward to this season? Anything that you're ready to rewatch? Well, the hardest thing will be my family drama. We'll be the hardest thing to watch. But again, we had a real moment in front of the camera and it speaks to who we are.
Starting point is 00:33:44 as a family in terms of being able to come up and come out of that moment. Everybody keeps asking me, are the boys keeping the condo clean? Of course they're not. But I'm going to be handing over those mortgage payments shortly, and I don't care if they keep it clean or not. Well, you've come a long way. Yes. Well, thank you so much for being here.
Starting point is 00:34:11 Thank you and thank you for having. Congratulations on the new season. Everybody should watch Sunday nights on Bravo. Thank you everyone for watching.
