Hey, everyone. Welcome back to the Mentioner all podcast. I'm Dylan Hafer. Happy Monday. After months, weeks, I don't know how long it was, of no housewives going on. Suddenly, it feels like there is a lot happening in the air. And I'm so happy. I'm so excited.

Of course, we have Real House of New Jersey that we are going to get into today. Episode two, we're at the shore. Things are getting spicy. I just love to see it. But we have news from a couple other franchises that I want to talk about first. Of course, Real Housewives of Orange County, we are anxiously awaiting their new season. And now even more than ever, because these ladies, just a couple weeks ago, had wrapped up filming for season 18. they had gone their merry way.

You know, Heather DeBrow took a family vacation. I'm sure Shannon, you know, went to some sort of spa somewhere to just decompress for a couple weeks after the, you know, whatever emotional nightmare that was this season for her. But then we got some news that our friend Jen Pedrante, her new fiance, her boyfriend that was on last season, you know, Jean Jacket or Gene Vest. rather, Ryan, boyajian, he was suspected to be involved in this scandal that I don't know if you've been paying attention to this. Personally, I've been like one eye out of my peripheral aware that this is happening. But with Shohei Otani, who is one of the highest paid stars in professional baseball right now, he, you know, is just like a total, me trying to describe why somebody's good at baseball. He is a baseball star, one of the MLB's biggest stars in his from Japan.

And his interpreter was caught up in this sports betting scandal where he had basically used X amount of millions of dollars of Shohei Otani's money to place these illegal bets. and, you know, betting is pretty restricted in California where he lives, and so there's all these, whatever. Shohei Otani, as far as I'm aware, was mostly kind of cleared of any wrongdoing in this thing, but the interpreter was not cleared, and now it is alleged, reported, rumored, believed, whatever, that Ryan was involved in this illegal sports betting ring. Ring is such a fun word when you're like, it's like a dogfighting ring or a sports betting ring. ring. Like, do we have rings anywhere else? Is there like a housewives bedding ring? Can I get in on that? I don't know.

But anyway, over the weekend, it really looks as if Real Housewives of Orange County cameras have been picked back up to film whatever fallout is happening after this. Jen has said that she is mentioning it all. She's putting it all out there. Interestingly, from where we left off last season, things have definitely soured between Jen and Tamara because they are apparently no longer on speaking terms. And over the weekend, Tamara was with a few of the other girls. She was with Emily. She was with Heather. And she was wearing a trucker hat that said FBI on it, which is just, it's so good. I mean, Tamara, like truly never change, but also, oh my God. But so they are seemingly very very very. very, very at odds in this situation that's going on. And I cannot wait to see how this pans out.

Of course, this season of OC is also going to be the return of Alexis. It's going to be so many things that I just, I don't even know at this point what to expect, but also I'm scared because we've been getting teased that we're going to see this season very soon. But then now I'm scared this is going to delay the season. And I don't want this to do. delay the season, but then I also want to know all of the details. I'm like, can we just keep the cameras up and like keep editing while the season's airing? I don't know, but I am, I'm excited for whatever's coming our way. And it feels like it's very, um, feels like it's very up in the air. Oh, by the way, so Tamara wore the FBI hat and then Jen posted an Instagram story wearing her own

hat that said, just trash. And she made some little like black squiggle lines over the hat. And she said, oops, did I not blur out the message on my hat good enough? And then she put a little sticker next to that message that is like an FBI badge. So she's wearing a trucker hat that is a response to Tamara's trucker hat that was, you know, seemingly about her, but now is like definitely about her. Like we're sending, we're sending shady messages via trucker hats on social media. This is, they're playing 3D chess here. Hats off to the ladies of Orange County, literally, pun not actually intended, but pretty good, no? Oh my God, I can't wait to see all of that unfold. But we also need to talk about Beverly Hills because Beverly Hills is back into filming

in the wake of Anna Marie and Crystal's departures. We have seen the cast sort of circle up for this season. I think they had their first big group event over the weekend. And so we have our returning quintet. Is that five? Quintet? Yes. Quintet of Dorete, Kyle, Erica, Garcel, and Sutton. And then we have some reported new additions to the cast. These, I always say, take with a grain of salt. I mean, we saw on Real Housewives of New Jersey last night at the shore. Some of our ladies who were reported to be joining the show who got like, you know, a 30-second little part of a group scene and now we might not see them again. So like if you're holding out hope for like Kayla Giovonazzo to be holding a meatball, obviously didn't happen for her. So take the new,

the new reports for Beverly Hills with a grain of salt. But in the mix reportedly are two new potential housewives, Amanda de Cattiney and Basoma St. John, both of these women have really interesting backgrounds, and I don't know if they will end up being full diamond holders, but just the fact that they are sort of where casting is going for this franchise is super interesting. So Amanda, she is a British photographer. I'm reading from Wikipedia. Both of these women have Wikipedia pages as New Housewives. Interesting. A British photographer, actress and media personality based in L.A., so she began her entertainment career as a presenter for a couple of British series, and then she moved to LA.

She had a private career as a photographer. She had an interview series on Lifetime. And interestingly, so she has done a lot of stuff in her career. She also has been married twice, first to the bassist from Duran Duran. They had a kid together. That was in the 90s. And then since 2006, she has been married to a guitarist from the Strokes. So she has a type. I think it's safe to say. She has two more kids with this guy, Nick Valenci. She's rumored to be joining the show. And then Basoma St. John, also super interesting. She was born in Connecticut. She grew up traveling with her family. They spent time in Ghana. They spent time in Kenya. They returned to the United States when she was 12. And she has had a major career in marketing. She was the chief marketing officer at Netflix a few years ago. She was the

chief brand officer at Uber for a year. She was a marketing executive at Apple Music. She has done a ton of really big stuff in her business career. She also has had a podcast with Katie Couric talking about systemic racism and criminal justice reform. She wrote a memoir. A ton of stuff going on. She also, she was married to a man at Peter St. John from 2003 until his death in 2013. So she is a widow. They have two children together. Just soon. super interesting. I don't know a lot about either of these women on a personality level, but just in terms of the type of women that they are adding to the show, these are both really successful, seemingly like, independent, very interesting, very, like, they've done a lot of stuff on their own. And I think this is an

interesting direction to go in with the casting, not that they haven't cast people like this before, but these women are they're not celebrities in the sense of like a Lisa Rina or like an Erica Jane where it's like oh they have this kind of like glam you know aesthetic it's like no they're they're like well known in specific fields in a way that I think I would be really interested to see how women like this interact with an Erica Jane a Kyle a Doreet like how is that really how are they going to gel are they going to gel? Are they going to gel? Is that going to be butting heads? Is somebody coming in like Posoma with this like marketing executive resume?

Is that going to be intimidating to the other women? I don't know. There's a lot of questions. It's way, way, way too early to actually know. But also, interestingly, we're getting reports that Kathy is going to be returning as a friend of this season. We'll see. And also potentially that Jennifer Tilly, actress, bride of Chucky, and, um, as we know, Sutton's good friend could be joining the show in a friend of capacity this season.

I am really intrigued by that possibility because Jennifer, we've gotten, you know, maybe like one or two appearances per season. Sometimes she's just at an event. Sometimes there's a little one-on-one scene with her and Sutton. But she really seems to have a lot of opinions and a lot of kind of like sort of that like comic relief element, but willing to weigh in on the issues within the group. And I think that in sort of like a Jen Fesslery kind of way, or even like a Kathy Hilton kind of way,

like that is a lot of what you want from a friend of, somebody who isn't necessarily going to be driving storyline on their own, but is going to be willing to get in the mix just enough to really be entertaining, to really kind of like round out the more core pieces of the cast. Like Kyle's not going anywhere. That's clear. It is what it is.

Derreet on Thursday, I believe it was, yes, May 9th.

She posted it as a reel. I'm not sure why. It's just a white text on a black background. it's definitely like saved from an Instagram story, but she posted as a reel, and I'm just going to read it, because it's not that long. We as a couple have been subject to a lot of speculation about our marriage. We have had our struggles over the last few years, and can you continue to work through them as two people who love each other and share two amazing children together.

To safeguard our deep friendship and maintain a harmonious environment for our children, we have made the mutual and difficult decision to take some time apart and reevaluate our relationship while we prioritize our children. We appreciate your love and support while we continue to do the work necessary throughout this journey. With love, Doreet, and P.K. So this, my instinct is to say that this says a lot without saying much of anything. And it sort of does. But at the same time, she says they've made the decision to take some time apart.

She is saying that they are separated, at least right now. obviously that word can mean a lot of different things. It can be a temporary thing or a path to something more permanent. But she is for the first time really like admitting that they are taking this step. And I think that's big. I'm very curious kind of where we go from here. And the fact that this statement is coming out right at the time that they're beginning to film for the next season, I would love to have the kind of behind the scenes of what went into this because I have a feeling

that Doreet and to some extent P.K., but I don't think P.K. is paying that close of attention, to be honest. I think he's been busy in London with whatever he's busy with in London. But I have a feeling that Doreet watched the way things played out last year with Kyle and Maricio and realized that that was not a good blueprint for the best way to handle this. And by that, I mean, Kyle went through filming for that entire season without really ever being willing to put a label on or make any kind of declaration about what was happening with her marriage. And not just publicly. You know, if it's not ready to go on Instagram, it is what it is. But she wasn't even willing within the group to kind of have that like real talk, sit down.

down, here's the update. And so I think that this is probably a smart way for Doreet and PK to sort of get ahead of whatever's going to happen on this season. Because the producers are going to ask her, you know, if PK's in London the whole time they're filming for this season, the producers are going to be like, hey, Doret, where the fuck is your husband? And why isn't he home? Like, what's up with that? And even if he is there, if he's there, they're going to be expected to film content about their marriage, whether it's them having fun together, whether it's them arguing. It's going to be expected that there's something. And if they're in this position where they want to be separating and taking time apart and safeguarding our deep

friendship and maintaining a harmonious environment for their children, then they're not going to be probably filming some fun, silly date night that is like pretty much just a performance. And I would prefer that they're not. So, you know, is this a little bit choreographed to around what's happening with filming? It seems like probably yes. But I think that's kind of what we need. And for somebody who's been on Housewives for seven, eight seasons and has, you know, not been coming off her, you know, most well-received time on the show, I think this is kind of what was needed. And of course, I don't wish ill on the Kemsley family or, you know, I, you know, I, you know, I, you know, I hope that Jaggy and Phoenix are, you know, just living the life and having a great time as kids,

as they should. But I feel like this one has been kind of on a low simmer for a while. And it feels like it's time that the pot starts to boil. And so we'll see what happens this season. I mean, it's going to be a while before we see any of it. But I don't know. I wouldn't expect that we'll get much more news on this in the next few months. because I think now that filming has started,

this is kind of like they're putting the bookmark on the page and then the next chapters are going to be on the show. I hope. God, I hope they're on the show. If they don't show us this on the fucking show, then get off the fucking show, right? We can't be doing multiple of these, like, fake, you know, separation, whatever, storylines.

You know what is interesting, though? Depending how this goes, all five of the returning women on Real Houseways of Beverly Hills are single and not even like not married. Well, I mean, Kyle and Dorit are still technically married. But like Erica, Garcel, Sutton, Kyle Derreet are all like single. Isn't that sort of thrilling? I feel like there was a time when this type of dynamic on Beverly Hills would have been unfathomable.

I mean, back when it was Erica with Mr. Girardi and Kyle and Maricio and Maricio and DeRit and Pek and Lisa Rina and Harry Hamlin and LVP and Todd and Kyle and Teddy and what's his name, Edwin. All we had was husbands. Now not one in the bunch. I do wonder what this means though. Do we see P.K. at all this season? Do we see Mauricio at all this season?

It is going to be strange because if the husband doesn't have his own contract on the show and they're not together, there isn't necessarily this like expectation or requirement that you film. I mean, we haven't seen Michael Darby on Real House of the Potomac in two seasons, but like, come on, we can't just never see PKK again.

That would feel, that wouldn't feel good either. Whatever. I'll stop theorizing about this season of Beverly Hills that literally hasn't been filmed yet, but I am very curious to see how it's, handled. Good sleep is everything.

Real Housewives of New Jersey. Coming off of the premiere last week, obviously I had Dolores on the show, had a great conversation with her, but you know, it's a little different chatting with somebody who's on the show versus just recapping it sort of stream of consciousness, everything that I'm thinking as I'm watching. I thought the premiere was pretty good. I think that this season is obviously a sort of like new era for New Jersey. which is funny to say when the cast literally didn't change.

But it's new in the sense that with the Teresa and Melissa dynamic sort of not being on the table anymore, it feels like everybody else is really having to be a little on their toes in a way that I think is healthy for a franchise that has been around for a long time, that has had a lot of longtime cast members. I mean, at this point, Jennifer's been on the show, what, five seasons, Margaret, Dolores longer than that. Melissa and Teresa obviously go way back. But we're seeing Danielle and Rachel pick up a lot of the slack. I think Danielle and Rachel are both doing a great job. I mean, Danielle, the amount that she's giving in this episode, she really is, she's really kind of like taking the reins this season a little bit in a way that I think is

exciting for a second season housewife. We're seeing stuff with her kids. kids, stuff with her husband. There's family dynamics that are clearly have not been resolved with the stuff with her brother. And now she's not speaking to her dad over the stuff with her brother. She's hosting the big party for the sixth anniversary of the removal of Nate's brain cyst at the shore. We got to get everybody together at the shore. That's important. She's taking headshots for her daughter. She's going to be a stage mommy. She like wants she wants Valentina to win an Oscar. I'm like, okay. Okay. Oh, it is. funny to watch someone be like so proudly a stage mom in the year like 2024 where it's like

oh okay she's like she didn't want to get the head shots i wanted her to get the head shots i'm like we'll see how this goes but she's bringing a lot i mean she is her position within the group is changing as we see she's she's staying at rachel fooda's shore house and teresa having to sort of bite her tongue and be like, look, I mean, you know me. I don't tell you who's team to be on. If you want to, you know, God bless. It's like Teresa. I'm sorry. I can let a lot of like the Teresa stuff like just like slide off my back. But for her to be like, I would never tell you whose team to be on. Oh my God. I'm sorry. They just make me laugh. seeing Teresa and Louis wearing their, like, corresponding merch around the house.

So Teresa's wearing her Namaste bitches, which is, I believe, now defunct. These Housewife podcasts, they really are, um, they have a little bit of a flash in the pan tendency. Okay, I'm looking right now. They did an episode a month ago. Oh, it's their last episode. So their last episode was April 10th, and the title of it is, We're Done. with this, but it's not a farewell podcast episode. It's talking about we're done with this as in, I don't know. I don't know. But that's the last episode. To me, if you're doing a Housewives

podcast and the season's coming back and you haven't done any content around it, what's going on? But anyway, Teresa's wearing her Namaste bitch's shirt and Louie is wearing a t-shirt that says, give me pizza, you old troll. And if that sounds familiar, it's because that is something that Melania Judeyce said to her father, Joe Judeyce, way back in the early seasons of Real Housewives of New Jersey. This was in the era when Melania kind of like ruled the roost

in that house a little bit. And there were all these like viral gifts of her just like bossing around her parents. And so it was a little off-putting, I would say, to see Louis pop up in a shirt of something that his stepdaughter said to her real father years before he was in the picture that was on the show years before he was on it. And so, like, did he go back and watch that season and see that and be like, oh, ha-ha, put it on a shirt? did somebody just give him that shirt? Like, does he know the reference? Did Teresa be like, baby, they're coming over with film and put on the merch?

I don't know. I'm not pointing fingers. I don't even know if I have like an actual problem with it. It just, it did strike me as a little weird. And in general, before you say, oh, well, like, you never talk when other people do it. Maybe I haven't brought it up before. I do think it's weird when people on the show wear like four. fourth wall merch.

Like seeing Lala, somebody comment on Instagram, seeing Lala on Van der Pumperul is wearing her, send it to Daryl sweatshirt. It's a little weird. Seeing anybody, I mean like Derinda wearing like, you know, I made it nice, not well, bitch. Like, I think that breaking the fourth wall is like an important tool that can be used on these shows when it makes sense.

But I don't actually think that. that wearing merch that references something that is like only a reference because it was on the TV show, when you're filming the TV show, I don't think that's a good precedent. And I wish they would cut it out. Like, aren't there certain, like, logos and things that they're probably not allowed to wear on camera for, like, sponsorship reasons? I think Bravo or the production companies should put a stop to this. I don't know.

Maybe I'm overreacting. And it's not really about Louis and Teresa. It's about the principle. It's about the suspension of disbelief. And that's all. I don't know. Antonia and Gabriela's college departure is getting closer by the day. We see Antonia's 18th birthday party.

Melissa wants her to go explore her wild oats. It is really striking in this episode that there are multiple points where Joe and Melissa and Teresa and Louie are talking about their respective families. And by families, I mean, Joe and Melissa are talking about Melissa's side of the family, and Teresa and Louie are talking about Louis' side of the family, and how close they have gotten, and how much their love and acceptance and support has met amid all of the tumultuous times that they've had in the, you know, Gorgadjudais dynamic, seeing Teresa and Louis talk about Louis' father's eight-year sobriety anniversary and how close they've gotten and seeing that Joe is going to officiate the wedding of one of Melissa's family members and him talking about how much it meant

when Joe accepted when he came out and that's why he's officiating the wedding. Like genuinely, all of that makes me so happy. And the fact that putting aside their disagreements with each other and their, like, like inability to come together as brother and sister, whatever, the fact that they still feel like they have that family love and, you know, relationship in their lives makes me so happy. And to me, that allows us to move on from the Teresa versus Joe dynamic on the show. And it really, for the most part, these couple episodes, hasn't felt like this big elephant in the room that nobody is willing to address.

It's like, yeah, there are going to be moments where it's a little uncomfortable. You know, Melissa's going to see Teresa walk into the party at the shore and be like, there's going to be a moment where it's like, oh, like, why is Jen Fessler talking to talking to Teresa? Like, there are going to be those moments and dynamics and choices. We're going to see it with Jackie this season as she sort of shifts sides. but it's not it doesn't feel like it doesn't feel like oh well this is missing something because teresa and melissa aren't

gonna fight at this party and i think that that i i think the rest of the cast is doing a lot i think the producers are doing a good job of kind of like crafting something else or you know helping to craft something else i mean they don't craft it on their own the stuff with jenn fessler at the brain cyst anniversary party it's interesting So as a little refresher, last episode, Teresa was talking to Dolores about how she had heard that before the reunion, or when they were in New York, as they say behind the fourth wall, that Jen Fessler had said that there was this meeting at Margaret's House before the reunion to talk about how they were going to do things. And then she had made some comment backstage at the reunion about how they didn't execute the plan. So Teresa pulls genocide to ask her about this. And Jen says that there was this meeting and they made a plan where Margaret was going to play the recording of this weird phone call that her son got that was from like the private detective or whatever.

And basically that the impetus of this meeting was that they felt like or they were concerned that Louis was going to come to the reunion with all of these receipts and all of these rumors and things that had been dug up by Bo Dietel. And so Teresa is like, well, first of all, that never happened. He never did that. X, Y, Z, whatever. But then also there's this phone call thing, you know, and Jen says that the reason she bought into it at all was because Margaret was hysterical the day that she thought Louis called her son and she was so upset that he would do this. And Teresa, she swears on her daughter's life that he didn't do it. And she's like, do you believe me? And Jen, I would say, is towing this line very carefully. Because even though this is still sort of one of her first real dances with, you know, being caught in the middle on the show, I think she knows how sensitive this is.

And so she kind of, she gives Teresa the benefit of the doubt, at least for the moment, and says, you know, I want to believe her. And the episode ends with her hanging with Teresa and Louis, taking pictures with them, and Rachel Fuda is not happy. So I am very curious to see kind of how this is going to develop, because I feel like right now there still is a certain amount of like this person talk to this person and then that person talked to another person and then another person talked to this. We need to close the loop on this reunion stuff because I don't think that this is like a whole season kind of storyline. I think it's a good kind of way to dip our toes back in. It feels like there's some fresh stuff going on,

but it's still connected to what happened last season. I think we need to close the loop on this a little bit in the next couple episodes. I think it's going to be really interesting if we see Rachel and Jen kind of get into it a little bit because they're staying at, you know, Jen is staying at Rachel's house. So I would love to see kind of where their dynamic goes from here. And there's a lot of other stuff we need to see too. But these couple episodes, I think, have been a really good kind of entree to the season. We've got a lot to go

and I feel good about where we are right now. I do feel good. We'll see where this season of Jersey goes. But in the meantime, thank you so much for listening.
