Starting point is 00:00:28 See Store Online for details. Betches Media presents. Ha ha, laugh, funny. Mention It All, a Bravo by Betches podcast. We don't say that, but now we said it. With me, Dylan Hafer. We're going to check me, though. Hey, everyone.
Starting point is 00:00:46 Welcome back to the Mention at All podcast. It is Wednesday, and you have come to the right place because we are so back. Real House Stories of Beverly Hills premiered last night, and I cannot wait to dig into this premiere. I've watched it twice all the way through. and I have a lot of thoughts. I have a lot of moments I want to talk about. And oh, boy, what a what a start to the season. I really feel like we are living in good times right now. It is so wild that there are five Housewives shows airing this week. Truly, what did we do to deserve this? But more importantly, thank you, thank you, thank you to Bravo for making the scheduling choice
Starting point is 00:01:31 of putting Real House of Beverly Hills on Tuesday nights with Real House Stories of New York City because, as you may have heard, as you may have seen, as you may have sensed, real House stories of New York is not it right now. To be completely honest, I have not even seen this week's episode because I knew that I was going to be mostly talking about Beverly Hills, but also because I didn't want to. And now that Beverly Hills is on Tuesday nights, I kind of don't have to. And I will. I will. I will do my duty. I will do my literal, you know, job. But I am really glad that now we have some breathing room. So I don't feel obligated to find 30 minutes worth of material about Real Housewives of New York this season every week because it's not there. Now, I am definitely still going to keep up. I will likely, you know, check in here and there for the rest of the season. You know, we've got some we've got some time to fill. We've got some holiday episodes coming up. You know, there's, there's, I'm sure there'll be stuff to talk about in the wake of our pregnancy prank, whatever the fuck that was.
Starting point is 00:02:43 But it is, I think it was a smart decision on Bravo's part to pair these two shows. I mean, first of all, I'm sure that New York could use a little bit of a ratings boost with the Beverly Hills lead in. I'm not sure how that will work. But just from a purely programming perspective for us, for you and I, the people who watch. it is nice to have something else to look at on Tuesday nights. And for me, on these Wednesday episodes, my God. Speaking of New York, did you guys see that Bethany over the weekend posted a TikTok, which she deleted after the fact, which like, Bethany, leave the TikTok up. Who the fuck cares? But she was weighing in on the Roney situation and officially calling for Bravo to bring back her girls. to bring back the Rony OGs. She was saying that she thinks Luann and Sonia and Durinda and Ramona
Starting point is 00:03:35 deserve another bite at the apple and that these new women were brought in like shiny new toys. And it was like Toy Story and the old ladies were left on the shelf. A lot of metaphors going on. Bethany's TikTok that I can't really get into. It has been interesting not to give Bethany too much credit because, I mean, she speaks. into the wind and who knows where it's going. I don't think she's going to really impact any change in the Rony situation because let's remember the last time she tried to have an impact on Bravo and then swiftly gave it up after everybody stopped paying attention. But I do feel like the past week has been potentially impactful in the way that Roney
Starting point is 00:04:19 will be handled moving forward. You know, they have the rest of their season in the can. Obviously, I don't think they have taped their reunion yet. So I'm curious to see kind of how the reunion goes. But in terms of the next season, whatever that's going to look like, I do feel like if Bravo and the production company and the powers that be, if two weeks ago they weren't sure that there needed to be some big changes, I feel like they must be now.
Starting point is 00:04:50 There's no way that you could look at the pure fan response and fan anger over, that show right now and think, okay, this will blow over. We'll just run it back one more time. There's too much riding on this show. It's too expensive. It's too important. The way that Bravo has invested in this franchise over the last couple of years shows you how much they care about it and how much they sort of need it. And so I don't know what will happen with Roney. But my, I don't know if this is a bold prediction, but my prediction is that we will have. have some increased visibility, let's say, for some of our past Rony ladies over the next year, year and a half on Bravo. And I don't know if that will mean bringing, you know, oldies
Starting point is 00:05:41 back to Roney. I don't know if that will mean some sort of spin-off. Maybe they give legacy another go. But I think that there is change a common. And I think that whatever that looks like, it's clearly something that people want and that really the show needs. Backing up a little bit, I am currently procrastinating packing going to Miami for Bravo Fan Fest this weekend. If you are going to be there and you see me on Saturday or heck even on Friday, say hi. Come say hi. I love to meet followers, listeners, fellow Bravo-Holics. Please come say hi. Come take a picture, whatever you want. I'm excited to be there on Saturday. I don't really know what to expect. I, of course, have been to all three editions of BravoCon, which all have been very different from each other.
Starting point is 00:06:30 This is, from my understanding, going to be a much smaller event. In terms of the talent that's going to be there, the Bravo Lab talent, it's compared to BravoCon, it's much paired bound. Basically, from what I have seen, it's like most of the shows that are currently airing or about to start airing, like Atlanta is going to be represented, Southern Charm is going to be represented. most of those shows are sending like two people. So like I think Lisa and Heather are going to be there for Salt Lake.
Starting point is 00:07:04 I think Shep and Madison maybe are going to be there for Southern Charm. I think Aaron and Uba. Maybe Aaron and Uba. I'm not looking at the list right now. So it's a much slimmed down group. I think the full Miami cast is going to be there because duh. But it's a quick event. It's a little bit of a flash in the pan,
Starting point is 00:07:24 but I'm excited to hopefully get some good content for you guys. Next Monday, I'm planning on breaking it all down, talking about, you know, what you missed behind the scenes. But let me know in the meantime, shoot me a DM, send me a message, whatever. If there's anything specific you want to see from Bravo Fan Fest, or if there's anything, you know, after the fact that you want me to talk about, we are going to get into all of it. But I'm excited to be there. And like I said, please, if you are headed to Van Fest, say hi. If you see me, I will be out and about all weekend. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:07:54 I haven't been to Miami in a couple of years, so I'm excited for that. One other piece of news before we get into Beverly Hills, because we are going to get into Beverly Hills, Shannon Padour has settled her facelift lawsuit with John Jansen, and I am just, I'm thrilled for her. I'm not thrilled for her because, you know, she had to cough up some money, I'm guessing. We don't have the terms of the settlement, but this is what her attorney told page six yesterday. I'm just going to read his statement. Shannon made an incredibly smart, emotional, and financial decision in deciding to settle this case. He called the premise of the lawsuit shameful and said,
Starting point is 00:08:33 I have no doubt in my mind that Shannon would prevail in this matter, but the cost of defending the case would easily be more than the amount that was sought. While she was certainly prepared to fight for the truth, I congratulate her in taking the high road and putting this matter behind her. So essentially, what it sounds like is that she probably just had to pay him the $75,000. I don't know what that's going to mean in terms of the non-disparagement agreement that she was pushing for during the season of OC. We don't know the terms of this. Obviously, if there is a non-disparagement agreement, we probably won't ever know the terms of this. I am happy for Shannon. I think that
Starting point is 00:09:13 watching this season of OC, it has felt like she really just kind of needs a win. And even if this isn't on paper a win, I feel like just the fact that now she gets to move on with her life is a win. So good, so good. Everything you want for summer is at Nordstrom rack stores now and up to 60% off. Stock up and save on the brands you love like Vince, Sam Edelman, frame, and free people. Join the Nordy Club to unlock exclusive discounts, shop new arrivals first, and more. Plus, buy online and pick up at your favorite rack store for free. Great brands, great prices.
Starting point is 00:09:53 That's why you rack. Girl, winter is so last season. And now spring's got you looking at pictures of tank tops with hungry eyes. Your algorithm is feeding you cutoffs. You're thirsty for the sun on your shoulders. That perfect hang on the patio sundress. Those sandals you can wear all day and all night. And you've had enough of shopping from your couch.
Starting point is 00:10:18 Done hoping it looks anything like the picture when you tear up on that envelope? It's time for a little in-person spring treat. It's time for a trip to Ross. Work your magic. I know I haven't gotten to talk much about the reunion just because of scheduling stuff, but watching in the second part of the reunion when Alexis is out there, and I mean, first of all, Alexis, dear God, her performance at this reunion, it's not helping her. It's not doing her any favors. I don't know at this point if she would even want to be back on the show, but like, yikes. But when she said that before, she met John, he had been single for like a year or, you know, some amount of time, seeing the
Starting point is 00:11:03 look on Shannon's face and her knowing that that doesn't match up with what her lived experience was, whether or not they were fully together, whether, whatever, it just feels like this relationship has manifested and really turned into something so negative and, and, and, and, and, and, and dark in her life. And I'm glad that she, you know, is out of that relationship. And I'm glad that now with the settlement, she'll be able to hopefully actually move on and assuming that Alexis isn't back on the show, that she sort of won't have this presence looming over her.
Starting point is 00:11:40 But like, ugh, the Alexis Bellino, I mean, even by halfway through the season, we knew that she was a flop on OC this season. But like, watching her at the reunion, she's just so annoying. Just loud and wrong. and just ugh and watching like emily dig into her watching shannon dig into her like nobody really wants her out there even the people that she's getting along with it's like does tamara really want her on the show that bad or does she just want to kind of like twist the knife with shannon i don't know oh see it's it's been a good reunion it's been interesting i feel like this season has been pretty good but i i'm excited to have
Starting point is 00:12:25 Beverly Hills to talk about because I guess sort of like the Roney reboot I like having a shiny new toy. I like having something on the shelf that's exciting that I haven't seen before. And in this premiere, we are getting a Doreet Kemsley that I don't really think we have seen before. And I've seen a lot of people being like, oh my God, it's season seven Doreet. The OG Doree is back. This is the Doreet we've been missing. And like, not no. but also like when Doreet first came on the show yeah she was more reactive yeah she was speaking her mind more but she was also like ride or die for PK
Starting point is 00:13:08 and like a big part of her identity on the show was like this weird kind of like relationship with PK that nobody could quite understand but she seemed so obsessed with him so just the fact that this season were seeing her without that sort of loyalty to her man, but then also activated in terms of her relationship with Kyle and everything else that's going on.
Starting point is 00:13:35 I don't think this is season seven to read. I think season 14 to read is something completely new in a really, really exciting way. And I just want to tip my cap to the producers and the editors and whoever decided to sort of calibrate this season the way that they did so that in this premiere, like 10 minutes in, right off the bat, we are getting into the meat of Dorete and Piquet's separation. Because I don't know exactly when they started filming versus exactly when this was breaking out. But I get the impression that
Starting point is 00:14:16 they had started filming probably, I don't know, days, weeks before. And I think that deciding to basically set the beginning of the action when Dorit and Pekay have separated, and then sort of peppering in flashbacks, peppering in other context. I think it's such a smart move. And it really shows me that I think production on this show kind of learned some lessons and took some notes from how all of Kyle's relationship issues were handled last season. because it was so, it was frustrating last year to feel like for the entire season pretty much, we were maybe getting some breadcrumbs of what was happening and we kind of, we knew what was going to happen
Starting point is 00:15:03 because by the time the show's airing, obviously there had been this announcement and we knew that they had picked cameras back up. But it felt like for the majority of the season, we were kind of being shut out from whatever was actually happening. And part of that, I think, was Kyle's decision. Obviously, she made certain choices last year of what to talk about and what not to talk about and who to share things with. And, you know, she had complicated feelings about letting her daughters know things and this whole situation with Morgan, which we'll get into. But I think that also, just on the part of the show, really deciding to pitch this season around Doreet's separation, It is fascinating.
Starting point is 00:15:50 And in this, midway through this premiere, getting kind of the matching scenes of Dorit at Kathy Hilton's house talking about P.K. and her issues with him. And P.K. and Maricio at some restaurant talking about his marriage. It is so captivating. And not only is it, oh, we're talking about our separation. we're talking about our breakup, hearing both of them talk, I think really for the first time openly on this show about P.K. being, in Doreet's words, a full-blown alcoholic. And he has a sober coach. And P.K. saying that he sobered up and that was what kind of made the difference. And Dorete saying, you know, earlier with Erica that he, you know, he needed to dry out. And it started with one week. And then it became a journey and that things were going, better and then things weren't going better. Like, it really feels like from both of them, we're getting some pretty raw
Starting point is 00:16:55 examinations of what happened. And maybe their stories don't match up exactly 100%. I'm very, very interested to see what interactions between them we get on the show this season. In the trailer, there's that clip of when they're talking and treats like, well, we're talking like five times a day. And because like, yeah, well, we're not going to. I'm very interested by the fact that they are both very strongly saying they're not going to talk to their children about their separation.
Starting point is 00:17:26 I don't know. I mean, I am not a parent. I am not a person who's been married and separated with children. Eight and ten are really tough ages because it's like if you're a 10-year-old, if you're a little Phoenix, Phoenix is the older one, right? Jackie baby like 10 years old is old enough to like you're picking up on a lot of stuff that's going on around you
Starting point is 00:17:52 and I think it's great that they're on good enough terms to be able to do family activities and stuff like that together but like at a certain point I mean thinking about Kyle and Mauricio like Maricio has now moved out of the house if they had a 10 year old even if they didn't tell them for that long at a certain point I mean I guess right now Doreat tells Kathy that they are taking it day by day, or maybe she tells Erica. I don't know. It's like getting to Kathy and Erica conversations in the same episode. I'm like, woo, Doret's really making the rounds. But she says that they're figuring it out day by day and that they don't know kind of what the end is, but for right now it is a separation. I guess that that is maybe just sort of giving them some time where like if they decide that they're getting divorced and P. P.K.'s moving out or whatever. Honestly, P.K., I guess it's not that weird for P. P.K. to be
Starting point is 00:18:44 be like in London for a month anyway, so maybe the kids really won't notice. I don't know. I don't know what goes on inside Phoenix and Jagger's heads. But I hope they're doing well. I mean, I hope everybody's kids are doing well. God, that's, I mean, that is the hardest part of this. And it's, it's sort of really unfortunate that now Kyle and Derreet have gone through kind of similar stuff in back-to-back years. And because their friendship is in such a bad place right now, they, Kyle doesn't even want to text to read. She's like, she sees the news and she's like,
Starting point is 00:19:19 I want to text to read a message, but then she's going to think that I'm being manipulative, so better not. But meanwhile, Kyle sends what Pekey says is a lovely message to him. Like, okay, that's, when Derreet finds out about that, she's not
Starting point is 00:19:35 going to be thrilled. It's like, okay, she might not have loved the text message, but she's not going to love the text message to Piquet anymore. Starting point is 00:20:37 The issues with Kyle and Derreet are so interesting to me. And we just get at the very end of this episode, the start of their argument. Sutton's surrealism slash Mers Cunningham slash there's like a
Starting point is 00:20:55 contortionist in the pool and there's a knockoff Erica Jane performer it's a really special event let's just say we just get the the very beginning
Starting point is 00:21:06 of their argument this week and then next week's episode we're going to get kind of the full enchilada and there is a seven minute preview of the beginning
Starting point is 00:21:17 of next week's episode that has already been posted that I watched on, somebody posted on Twitter. I'm not going to break down that whole thing because frankly, that's next week's material. But I do think knowing the things that are kind of, at least according to them, at the root of their issues, God, it is, it's so strange to me that you can have a friendship for this many years and that Kyle can be so upset over a BravoCon, watch what happens live, where Doreet is asked to rank how much she likes the three Richard sisters.
Starting point is 00:22:01 And as a joke, because Kyle has just, like, spilled a drink on her, Doreet says Kyle's last and Kathy's first. That months later, Kyle is, like, actively hurt and angry and upset about her. this. It's a fucking joke. I was, I was literally there. Like, I think I, I might have been, like, in the front row of the audience that night at Watch What Happens Live. It was a joke. And look, I get that there can be jokes that, that are ill-advised or that don't land or that, you know, there can be intent and, you know, impact are not always the same. That was just a joke. I think Doreet was more justified in being mad at Erica last season for delivering the line
Starting point is 00:22:55 about PK and Doreet being the next to split up, which even now Dorete has come around on and said, yeah, there was trouble in paradise. And she saw it. And the fact that Doreet, you know, she and Kail are in such a bad place, which by the way, I think that her being upset at Kaya, for that Amazon live comment about her exaggerating their friendship is way more justified than Kyle being mad about some dumb Bronvo con joke. Like, that was shitty. And I think even if Kyle in her mind really feels that Derreet thought they were closer than she did, it's still a shitty thing to say.
Starting point is 00:23:43 Like, you're still talking shit about her as a friend, and that doesn't, like, you could just choose to be the bigger person and just not say what you were thinking. It was on Amazon Live, for God's sake. It's not like you were, like, subjected to a lie detector test about your friendship. Like, just, just don't be an asshole. Like, that's the bar, and you didn't clear it. but I do think it's nice to see that Erica and Derreet are able to kind of just like cut the shit and be there for each other and that little scene first of all Erica looks fucking phenomenal when she meets up with Derreet at the Pacific Design Center
Starting point is 00:24:28 showroom because she wants to get rid of some of that old old dusty musty Tom Gerardi furniture and she's wearing that little yellow sweater and the little mini skirt and the pumps and she's got the little tiny fendie tote. She looks excellent. Whatever she's having, I'll take it. She doesn't want to sit on the chair because her leg makeup will ruin the showroom. Relatable. Love it. Same. But then when Derreet tells her right off the bat, might I add, I mean, Derreet taking no prisoners, she's like, okay, so here's what's going on. Me and PK have decided to separate. Erica is like genuinely emotional about this because she's she's been through this,
Starting point is 00:25:15 as have so many people. I mean, Garcell having the realization after Doreet's news breaks that now there are no active marriages in this group, it really is giving like Rony season nine or whatever when all of a sudden you look around and it's like, oh, there's no husbands. How did we get here? Oh, my God. But no, I mean, Erica really like listening to Doreet, talking her through this thing of like, you know, there's going to be that moment of relief and then it's going to be pressure and it's hard. But you can get through it. Like, that's what Kyle should be doing for Doreet right now. And I'm very kind of, I'm interested to see this season whether. Kyle is able to kind of like realize that maybe she just needs to be like a listener for Doreet.
Starting point is 00:26:17 Because Kyle's whole thing, she's very into this idea that Dorete just talks, talks, talks, talks, and she doesn't want to hear it for many of us and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But like, just because Doret's a yapper doesn't mean that like she doesn't sometimes need to like sit down and have like a real conversation. And I think right now Kyle is kind of, it feels like Kyle's like dismissing Doreet in a way that isn't, isn't necessarily fair. I don't know. We have a long season to go. Next week, definitely we'll talk more about their kind of big blow up at Sutton's party. But I don't know.
Starting point is 00:26:53 It does make me sad a little bit. And I think that Kyle, not only in her issues with Doreet, but also the whole stuff about her personal life and her relationship or friendship or whatever the fuck it is with Morgan Wade, she seems for the second season in a row really ill-prepared for what she's going to have to talk about and deal with and answer for. Like, at Sutton's party, when she's sitting down with Erica and Garcel and maybe somebody else is sitting there, and Garcell is like asking her about the Morgan situation. First of all, Kyle won't even say her name, which first of all, Which first of all, I mean, I think Garcel is right on the money here. Bitch, it's too late.
Starting point is 00:27:41 You can't put the toothpaste back in the tube. I think that Kyle probably now realizes that it was really naive of her last season to think that she could bring whatever this relationship is onto the show as she is going through the separation from her husband and have this friendship or relationship that at least presents itself as very, very close and very intimate and not have people wanting the answers, both in her friend group on the show. And also, sorry, you're on reality TV. If page six or us weekly or, you know, name a tabloid, name a Twitter account can get one scrap of information and do their jobs and write about your personal life, they're going to do it.
Starting point is 00:28:31 And you gave us a lot of material last season. You didn't give us a lot of answers, but your relationship, whatever such it may be, was on display. And clearly Morgan was uncomfortable with that and the amount of attention. But yeah, Kyle, I mean,
Starting point is 00:28:49 Kyle's really in this mode where she's like blaming it on the tabloids and sort of like the noise around it. And Garcell, like, I really respect Garcel for kind of holding Kyle's feet to the fire a little bit because she's like, well, that music video didn't help. The way that you were acting around each other didn't help.
Starting point is 00:29:11 And like sort of what did you expect? I'm interested to see kind of like Garcell's sort of role on this season because most, the most that we get from her in this premiere is talking about her production work and her acting work that is like super active and she's doing these lifetime movies. I'm like good for her. I'm interested to see sort of like where she lands in the group this season. other than just talking to Kyle about
Starting point is 00:29:33 she who shall not be named, Morgan Wade. Leave that in. But I just, oh, I don't know. Kyle, Kyle, Kyle. 14 seasons of this, and still every season, it seems like she's like taken aback that people have questions for her. Girl, enough.
Starting point is 00:29:56 If you've been through the ringer 14 times, you can't be surprised when the ringer comes back around. it's going to it's going to happen every season. I am, I'm really enjoying from our first little glimpse, Bose, Bozma St. John, who we're going to get to know more next week. We're going to kind of really get our introduction to her, but I mean, obviously she's fabulous. Obviously she's beautiful. Her career is, you know, insane.
Starting point is 00:30:26 I was a little surprised and, like, pleased to see right off the map the way that she and Doreet were kind of bonding. DeRee, God bless her, with the most ridiculous thing you've ever seen on her head, that fucking satellite dish, I could not stop looking at it. Bose, I think is one to watch. She has clearly, like, extremely interesting personal story. I'm curious to see sort of like how she gets into the drama, knowing that she comes from such a high-powered corporate, sort of like by the book type of background. she might be the messiest person we've ever seen on TV. I have no idea.
Starting point is 00:31:06 I'm very open to whatever she's bringing, and I hope that, you know, at the end of the season, we love her. The other moment, I just, I haven't talked about. Doreet lighten up that cigarette in the car. It was such a mind-blowing moment to me. And I posted this last night during the episode. The photo of her smoking, I said, we are so back. And so many of you agree in that.
Starting point is 00:31:32 the comments. And then there were comments, which I understand, of people being like, I don't get why people are excited by this. Smoking is gross. This isn't cool. Whatever. For me, it is not about the act of smoking a cigarette. I don't smoke cigarettes. I, from a health perspective, would advise you not to smoke cigarettes. I, you know, people can make their own choices. Whatever, not my job. It for me is the sort of fourth wall facade type of thing of we have never seen Doreet smoke a cigarette on this show. If we have, it is like in the distance or through a window or, you know, she's getting, she's gotten pictures from the paparazzi of her smoking a cigarette. We've, we've seen her smoking cigarettes. We know that she smoked cigarettes, but she has clearly made a choice
Starting point is 00:32:29 not to have a cigarette hanging out of her mouth in her average episode of Beverly Hills. And so I think to me, and for a lot of people that I, you know, heard from last night, seeing her light up that sig in the car in this premiere signaled something about her energy this season, that it's like we have unlocked a different Dorit. And that's partially why I say not season seven Dorit. It's a new derit because season seven derit, because season seven, would have denied that she even smoked cigarettes. I just think she is kind of, she's bringing it in a different way.
Starting point is 00:33:10 And I, I'm prepared, I'm not heaping praise on her for her choices. You know, we might see over the course of this season, maybe she becomes a villain. Maybe she kind of lets it get away from her. But I am right now very appreciative of the amount of energy that she's bringing and the way that compared with, let's say, Kyle, last year, it really feels like she is meeting the moment in her personal life head on and sharing it with us in a way that really these shows need to thrive on. That's the Beverly Hills premiere. We'll be back with one more episode this week and headed to FanFest this weekend. So again, let me know your thoughts about FanFest, anything you want to hear about.
