Mention It All - I’d Rather Be At The Quiet Woman

Episode Date: July 10, 2024

Minutes after waking up from his dream about The Quiet Woman, Dylan is back to recap more Bravo drama. Later, he heads over to Dubai to recap the latest episode. This week, Brooks and Taleen are fully dunzo, Lesa seemingly realizes she needs a storyline, and we learn some more questionable details about Caroline and Sergio’s relationship. Starting point is 00:00:41 We're going to check me both Hey everyone Welcome back to the Mention at All podcast It is Wednesday I had to start this recording Like three times Because there was a barrage of sirens Outside my window
Starting point is 00:00:55 You would think Jen Shaw was getting arrested Outside of my bedroom window I am Oh God, we're like a week into this New York heat wave. I've had this cold. I'm trying to kick. So I basically haven't left the house in, God, what, five days? Normally I would be recording in the studio, but it's, it's been better for me to stay home this week. And really, I just feel like I am losing my mind.
Starting point is 00:01:19 I, I actually think I had a dream about the quiet woman last night. The quiet woman, And iconically, of course, the Newport Beach restaurant where Shannon Storm's bador said to Kelly Dodd, this isn't my plate, you fucking bitch. And now we know, based on another clip that was released from The Real House of Orange County season 18 premiere, the restaurant where John Jansen met Alexis Bolino. Oh, this piece of information really just knocked me on my ass because has the world ever felt smaller? Has there ever been more, I don't know, carmic synergy of coming together to make Shannon Bador's life a living hell?
Starting point is 00:02:10 God, I don't know. I, okay, I will say, though, I feel like we're going a little hard on the pre-premere sneak peaks of Real House Boys of Orange County. I don't want to bite the hand that feeds because, of course, it's fun to, it's fun to, it's fun to get a preview. It's fun to have stuff to talk about and to really build the hype. And I do think there's a lot of hype. And so I don't blame them for trying. But like, we already got the cold open. We already got a clip of Shannon talking to her daughters about the DUI. Now we got this return of Alexis clip. And she's talking about the quiet woman. And I'm like, okay, if this episode of TV is like 42 minutes long, We've seen like 20% of it already. And like I said, I don't want to complain too much, but at the same time, I don't want to sit down to watch an episode of Housewives that I'm anticipating and already feel like I've seen the best bits. Perhaps I'll eat my words.
Starting point is 00:03:11 I can't wait to talk about the Orange County premiere at the end of this week. But I just, I feel like we should use a delicate touch here. Because there's, there's only so much teasing before I'm just going to feel like I was like, over teased. What's the word? Like, over, overpressed, overhyped. I will just say this season of Orange County, it's got a lot to live up to. And also it's, you know, the other stuff we have to talk about is not, frankly, not quite as interesting right now. You know, I'm going to talk about Dubai in a little bit and like, okay, it is what it is. Am I supposed to be watching, like, below deck again? It's been a minute. Do I have to? I won't be, I won't be watching the, like,
Starting point is 00:03:55 million dollar listing LA this season. I got an email about it. I'm like, I can't do this. I can't pretend to really give that much of a shit. Like, I just, I don't know. Am I sour? Is this like a sour grape's attitude? No, I just think at this point, it's like I care what I care about what I care about. And I think you guys mostly care about the same stuff. So I don't feel that bad. You know what I haven't been watching that all of a sudden is feeling like a huge blind spot is this season of Love Island USA with our girl Ariana Maddox as the host. I feel like this is the sixth season of Love Island USA. And I feel like every other year, everybody in my life who is a Love Island fan is like
Starting point is 00:04:36 Love Island UK is amazing. If you want to watch another one, watch Australia. Love Island USA is like a total skipable knockoff. Right? Like I don't think I've ever heard somebody say, I mean, maybe there's like some, you know, some good moments or whatever. I'll see a clip here and there. That's where we got Burgalicious. God love him. But nobody was ever like, oh my God, Love Island USA. It's on at 9. You have to sit down and watch. This season,
Starting point is 00:05:07 oh my God, I'm seeing so many tweets. I'm seeing so many. I have coworkers who don't even watch Bravo and they're like desperate for an outlet to talk about Love Island USA. And I don't think that the reason this season is popping off really has much to do with Ariana. But I do feel like it's pretty lucky for her that this season that she's the host of also happens to be by far the most chatted about the most buzzy season because if they're you know if the powers that be at the at the cock ye old peacock are looking at the the recipe for success this season and they're saying well we brought in a new host this ariautomatics she looks great and she does a good job too. Let's bring her back next season. If she wants to do that gig again,
Starting point is 00:06:04 I can't imagine they're going to fire her. I don't know. You do have to spend a while in Fiji, though. I don't know why I had this inkling prior to the season. I thought that Love Island USA was pre-taped because I know that the UK one is like, oh, they're there in real time. It's on like six nights a week. Maybe they used to do it differently. I thought the U.S. one was like a little bit more scaled back where it was like, oh, they film it for like three weeks and then they just like air it. No, it's, it's in real time. It's on like five or six nights a week. Ariana's been in Fiji this whole time. Her boyfriend went and visited her there. She's like, she's posting through it. She's like double tapping my Instagram stories sometimes. I'm like, girl,
Starting point is 00:06:48 you're really living the life. But it is to go to Fiji for several weeks is it's a commitment. And already after this, after this wraps up, she's going to be back in New York doing Chicago again. And then I imagine they're going to be back into Vanderpump Rules filming if she chooses to do that. So I don't know really if Ariana is going to want to keep doing Love Island for years, if that's kind of where she sees her career going. I mean, being like a top tier TV host presenter is like a pretty good gig. If you can get yourself some good paychecks for that, like, I mean, look at Ryan Seacrest. Look at, you know, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:07:31 Who else? Rita Oro is always doing something. Like, it's a, it's a good life. And I think Ariana could be really good at that if she so chooses, but she's clearly got options on the table. Okay. I, it is Wednesday. And we are still dealing with the aftermath of the Bethany and Luann run in in the
Starting point is 00:07:50 Hamptons. I know yesterday I talked about this. And it was the first time. I had talked about it, and Luann had already spoken to Us Weekly about how she felt like Bethany used Bryn to kind of get to her and that she was still blocked on Instagram. But after that, not only did Luan give these quotes to Us Weekly, but Luan and Durinda were both on the reality checked serious show yesterday, and they were laughing their asses off about this situation with Bethany. Because Durinda, first of all, they're like, I love when there's a moment on the radio or on a podcast or
Starting point is 00:08:23 something where you can tell that it's basically just two girlies talking on the phone. Like the audio quality is not very good. The, like, you could tell, like, obviously they know people are listening, but it's like they're kind of just like gabbing. And Dorinda is like, I, he, she was like, I. Sorry, I'm laughing so hard. She goes, I peed myself when I was up in the Berkshires, making some lasagna dish. And it popped up.
Starting point is 00:08:54 because you wrote, oh, life is a cabaret. Buy tickets. And Louana's like, well, she's like, she's like the one thing that Bethany can acknowledge is that she was wrong about cabaret. God, it's so good. The way that these women are like sort of permanently stuck in 2018, I know I just talked yesterday about how like old Roney doesn't exist anymore, we're not getting it back,
Starting point is 00:09:24 but then it's like, you. hear Luanne and Durinda like being bitches on the radio together. And you're like, well, maybe just a, maybe just a taste. Maybe just a little dip back into the pool. Maybe another girl's trip. Maybe another watch what happens live. Maybe send Dorinda to crappy lake. I don't know. So good. So good. Everything you want for summer is at Nordstrom rack stores now and up to 60% off. Stock up and Save on the brands you love like Vince, Sam Edelman, Frame and Free People.
Starting point is 00:10:01 Join the Nordy Club to unlock exclusive discounts, shop new arrivals first, and more. Plus, buy online and pick up at your favorite rack store for free. Great brands, great prices. That's why you rack. Winter is so last season. And now Springs got you looking at pictures of tank tops with hungry eyes. Your algorithm is feeding you cutoffs. You're thirsty for the sun on your shoulders.
Starting point is 00:10:27 That perfect hen. on the patio sundress. Those sandals you can wear all day and all night. And you've had enough of shopping from your couch. Done hoping it looks anything like the picture when you tear up on that envelope. It's time for a little in-person spring treat. It's time for a trip to Ross. Work your magic. Wait, by the way, I don't think I talked about. Jeff Lewis brought up a couple weeks ago. So the watch What Happens Live anniversary special aired. I talked about it a little bit before it had aired because I was at the taping. And so Sonia and Luann were some of the guests. Jeff Lewis was also there. So then of course, Jeff did his little rundown on his radio show. I say that like it's a bad thing.
Starting point is 00:11:10 Like that same girl. But Jeff was talking about how, how do I say this, how fucked up Sonia was during the taping, which was extremely visible to those of us in the audience. It was a little touch and go there for a second. She seemed, she was. it was a little it wasn't great but Jeff was talking about this he was clearly like annoyed basically at Sonia's level let's just say
Starting point is 00:11:41 and then he said which I hadn't heard this and I don't know if it's actually true but this is basically he's saying that he has heard and you know if anybody has sources it's going to be Jeff Lewis that basically the reason that they're not doing another season of Crappy Lake or another version of that show with Sonia and Luan
Starting point is 00:12:05 is because Sonia is such a mess. Which is like, so first of all, I believe it because I've seen it. And I think for if you've been to a Sonia in your city or if you've been to any kind of event, like I'm not the only person who's seen it. And also, aside from not being shocked, it just makes me sad because I'm like, that would, that's such a great opportunity. And it's such a, the first season of that show was so fun. And it seemed like it worked so well. And so the idea that it's not going to happen anymore because maybe allegedly Sonia kind of just can't keep it together, it just sucks. It's like I want everybody to be doing well and being healthy and successful and thriving. And, you know, I know Sonia got her chunk of change from that townhouse auction and she just posted the moving truck last week.
Starting point is 00:13:11 I don't know where she's moving to. But it's like, I just want everybody to be good. And I think Luanne is good. And I think that Dorinda is okay. You know, she's making her lasagna dish in the Berkshires. She's fine. Bethany is chaotic as hell, but like, whatever, she's laughing all the way to the TikTok creator fund. But Sonia, I'm like, man, what's the, I don't know. I don't want to like dwell too
Starting point is 00:13:38 much on rumors and whatever about Sonia, but it's just like, man, it makes me sad. Also, Hannah Burner's stand-up special is on Netflix now. I haven't gotten to watch it yet. I definitely planned to. Hannah and I go way back. I'm excited to see everything that she's doing. She and Paige just announced they have a giggly squad book coming out next year. Who would have thought? But you know what this made me think? So Hannah Special just came out. And you know what else just started? Filming for season nine of Summerhouse. I think it would be really fun if this weekend, when they're filming for Summerhouse, on like Saturday night page is like guys I have a surprise
Starting point is 00:14:23 or like I'm planning Saturday night we're gonna have like a whatever the Saturday night activity can be everybody watching Hannah's stand-up special and we can just get like close up on Kyle Cook's face
Starting point is 00:14:40 every time Hannah gets like a really good laugh and him just being like oh fuck God fucking damn oh Hannah for her, Hannah. Just like that like internal like rage stew of Kyle seeing Hannah succeed. And then stay with me here. We watch them watch the special.
Starting point is 00:15:06 Not the whole thing. Like we can get some, you know, fade in, fade out, just like the highlights. And then it ends. And Paige is like, oh, I have another surprise. Ding dong! in Waxana Would you gag? Would you live? I don't think this is going to happen.
Starting point is 00:15:26 I don't even know if it would be entertaining to watch. But I'm like, what if there was a way? Right? It is interesting. Like, obviously, a lot of the time when people leave a Bravo show, if they're still real friends with the people that are still on the show, people can come in and out and just sort of like float by for an episode or a dinner or a party.
Starting point is 00:15:50 I mean, how many times has Kyle Richards forced Teddy Mellencamp upon us since Teddy was admittedly fired from Real Houseways of Beverly Hills? There's no reason, as far as I'm aware, that Paige couldn't, like, invite Hannah to a summer house party or summer house event or dinner or something. Like, I don't, I mean, it would be up to them whether she was going to be, like, miced up. or whether it was going to be like a storyline. But it is interesting that like she and Paige have built this whole business and brand together as best friends and are still, you know, extremely close, at least like on paper. But like Hannah just like doesn't really exist in the summer house universe anymore.
Starting point is 00:16:39 Like we hear about Giglety Squad. It's not like it's a secret, but it's never like, oh, my friend Hannah is going to be here next weekend. I just, I would be interested. I know people have strong opinions, whatever. I just, I don't know. It occurred to me and I'm like, that could happen. It wouldn't be so outside the lines of like what normally happens on a show like this. But anyway, I, I'm really going to try to not talk about filming for a summer house season.
Starting point is 00:17:06 We're not going to see for like eight months every week this summer. Unless there's like actual news, I guess. Oh, also I did see Carl was spot. by like, it was one of those like a page six spy stories that he was like spotted with a blonde. I'm like, okay, cool. LMK when I should care. Oh, also, by the way, I talked yesterday about how I was like, I'm sure somebody's going to find Lindsay's man.
Starting point is 00:17:33 Literally, I went on TikTok like an hour later and somebody had found Lindsay's man. So it's out there. I'm not going to like blow up her spot, but he's cute. He seems well off. I'm happy for her. Shall we talk about Dubai? God, I feel like I'm in the desert. right now. Like, I know, look, I know that they're like, oh my God, it's so hot. It's like,
Starting point is 00:17:51 120 degrees. And it's not 120 degrees here, but like, God, it's so hot. I don't understand, like, how people do that. Like, I just could never. It's not my journey in life. Congrats to anybody who likes it. But we do pick up at this desert day where Brooks and Tallinn have been having their little issue. And so Tallinn is trying to explain this to the group. And she's like, don't you feel like you were stirring the pot when you said that Stanberry was talking shit about me? And she's like, no, because that was my opinion. And I just, you know, you said if you, if anybody was ever talking about you that you wanted to know. And it's like, again, we're just back in this like whirlpool of Brooks not actually listening
Starting point is 00:18:41 to the actual meaning of what somebody's saying to her. And just, responding with the first thing that comes into her mind because it's like yeah it's like taline wants to know if people are talking about her but that's not the same as like spinning that somebody's talking shit when they're actually just like you know responding or expressing confusion or whatever but then um talline says that brooks can't take accountability for anything and that for somebody who's so into their peace and healing that she can be very hurtful um and then this this weird dynamic and clearly i'm not not the only one who thinks it's weird because kind of everybody does is that Sarah all of a sudden
Starting point is 00:19:21 is like Brooks's healing conflict coach. She's like talking to her across the table like, okay, now tell her, tell her what you mean and like say the, you know, say what you want to say and like tell her about how you were feeling. And it's like, what is this? I don't like in general, I feel like, I mean, Sara is a self-appointed doctor, but I feel like also within this group, she's like the self-appointed like spirit mediator coach.
Starting point is 00:19:58 And I'm like, I, that is something that to me is a, it's such a red flag in a person. When someone feels like they have the like, the upper hand to just be like, I, I'm going to have the, best read on a situation. And I'm going to be the best equipped to help people handle that situation. And so everybody should stop what they're doing and listen to me and take a step back
Starting point is 00:20:30 and wait for me to kind of give my two cents. Because it's like, who are you? I think part of the thing with this group is that it's like all of the conflicts feel so black and white. but then they can switch in an instant. Like, it's not like these longstanding friendship dynamics where it's like, okay, these two people haven't gotten along in forever. And so it's very nuanced, but like it's, it is what it is. It's like, Brooks and Tallinn were friends like three weeks ago. So when Sarah's like all of a sudden like, yeah, so okay, so you're going to talk about this?
Starting point is 00:21:09 It's like, wait, this just happened. Like, why do you feel like you're the expert in this? and the situation with the guy, we'll talk about it, but like, oh, God. But then there's, um, Stanbury and Sarah are, like, also fighting about this. Like, Stanbury, I think also gets, like, a little too invested in, like, other people's dynamics. It's like, if Brooks and Sarah want to be friends, then, like, just let it go. I don't think, I don't think, I don't think Stambore likes Sarah that much to begin with. She clearly doesn't like Brooks. It's like, just, okay, whatever. But then there's this weird thing like Brooks, Sarah and Lisa go aside because Ayan has told them that Sarah made this comment about something going on at home with Lisa.
Starting point is 00:21:58 And it's like Sarah kind of has to backtrack and be like, well, I didn't mean it that way. And like, you know, in our culture, it's very normal to say like, is everything good at home? And it's like, okay. Well, I mean, perhaps I don't. I don't know the cultural basis of that, but I do, like, I feel like with this group there is sometimes like a tendency to be like, well, it's a cultural thing. And it's like, okay, but she still didn't like it. Or like, you still came off like an asshole. And so it's like the cultural clashes, I think are valid and are interesting and like add to the dynamic. But at the same time, it's like,
Starting point is 00:22:38 it's not an excuse. Like, that's not a get out of jail free card. That's not like a be a bad friend. card. You still got to handle the one-on-one dynamic whether or not you, like, said something because, I don't know, whatever. Overall, not that interesting. But then the next scene is Ayan and Lisa. And Lisa is like thinking to herself after Sarah said this, she's like, actually, I do feel like I've been spread too thin and I haven't been spending enough time with my husband and I'm worried that one day he might leave me, and then Mina Roe is my backup plan. And it was so interesting, because as I was watching this, in real time, when they were in the desert, I was thinking to myself, we're six episodes into this season. I don't feel like Lisa has had much going on. Obviously, her mom came to visit.
Starting point is 00:23:30 I liked seeing her mom. I thought, you know, the conversation about whether her mom would consider relocating to Dubai was interesting. But in terms of terms of the group and in terms of sort of the vibe of the show as a whole, Lisa hasn't really had like a storyline per se
Starting point is 00:23:53 or like a, she hasn't really been involved in the conflict very much. And thinking back to season one and like her watch what happens live appearances, her, like Lisa is shady and funny and quick-witted and all of that. And I feel like this season that has not
Starting point is 00:24:09 really been the energy so far. And if she's kind of going through it, that's understandable. But like, I do just feel like Lisa is not somebody that I would expect to sort of get lost in the shuffle of a housewives show. And so I'm hoping that she kind of like steps it up. I know that her and Iyan's friendship breakdown is going to be a major storyline for the second half of the season. And that's teased in the mid-season trailer that we got in the same. episode. So I'm assuming that there's going to be kind of like more for her to do in the coming weeks. But I don't know. It just, it was interesting to me that like I had this thought and then
Starting point is 00:24:51 immediately the next scene as her being like, my marriage might not be great. And it's like, okay, well, maybe also you needed something to talk about. If, if not, I, I hope everything is good at home. I sound like Sarah. I'm like, is everything good at home? I hope so. If not, give me a ring. Whatever your thing. It could be anything. We're seeing a lot of these home family life visiting relatives situations this season. Caroline Brooks' mom is in town. Sergio's family is in town.
Starting point is 00:26:22 I thought it was interesting to see Sergio with his family, with Caroline there, and then Caroline leaves to go to the spot, and we see a scene that's just Sergio and his parents and his sister. And Sergio's mom, I was like, I'm obsessed with you. because you're, I feel like she was saying exactly what we were thinking about this baby situation, about, you know, their life together.
Starting point is 00:26:54 Like when he's saying like, oh, I miss the old Caroline, I miss the old Caroline, like, I just, blah, blah, blah, blah. And she's like, I don't see that woman having a baby. You got to focus on your relationship. And if the relationship between you guys is solid, that might have to be a, enough. And he's like, I just, I have to have my descendants. And it's like, I, look, anybody who wants to have kids, you should have kids. Like, that's, that's great. But I, it does feel like with Caroline and Sergio, I mean, we've talked at length about how they just aren't really on the same page
Starting point is 00:27:28 about stuff. But it, it does feel like there's this thing where like, Sergio's like, I don't know if I'm ready. And his mom is like, oh, no, you're not. You're, you're, you're like, definite. not. And I'm like, I think that he really likes the idea of having kids. And in his mind, he's like, I have to, you know, carry on the bloodline or whatever the fuck. But like, I don't think that he, like, obviously he's not going to have a kid right now. And then it's like, if it's too late for Caroline to have a kid, like, are you still going to be that upset? I feel like it could pass. Or maybe the marriage will pass. You never know. Because the scene with Caroline and her daughter Yasmin is kind of tough to watch. Because
Starting point is 00:28:13 Yasmin, so she's 17. She's just come back from this college visit trip with her dad that Caroline was supposed to go on, but stuff with the house happened. And Yasmin is being very clear and direct with her mom about how she feels like she's not prioritized. And Caroline is like, well, there's three of you. And she's like, yeah, you don't prioritize any of us. You prioritize Sergio. And she's like, hmm, interesting. And, and, And specifically Yasmin is talking about when she has arguments with Sergio, she feels like Caroline always takes Sergio's side and that if anybody else spoke to her the way that Sergio does, Caroline would not accept it.
Starting point is 00:28:55 And first of all, we're not in the house for all of these arguments. So I don't, you know, it's not like for me to weigh in. But it's interesting because Caroline in the moment is kind of telling Yasmin what she wants to hear, to a degree. And then in the confessional, she's like, she's like, well, you know, every step parent ever has this problem where, you know, they're blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And it's like, it's always his fault and he's always, I hate you and blah, blah, blah. And it's like, I wish that Caroline would take a little more of a step back and, like, actually listen and think and, like, consider because for for yasman to say all these things to her mom i have to imagine that this
Starting point is 00:29:43 has been weighing on her a lot and that she probably thought a lot about how much she wanted to say if she wanted to say anything how honest she wanted to be because it's like as a as a parent as not as a parent can you imagine as a child of divorced parents there are situations where you're like I have a lot of opinions about this or like feelings about how something is being handled. And like, I have to decide whether it's worth it for me to say anything or for me to say some version of what I feel or if it's better for me to just like do what I need to do to be okay for myself and like not expect anything from anybody else. I mean, I'm sure if this happens for people whose parents are still together also. I don't think I realized, though. So when Caroline's ex moved out, it was during the pandemic.
Starting point is 00:30:40 And then she says that Sergio got stuck in Dubai with lockdown. And so basically, like, right away, he was with them all the time. And knowing that piece of information, I don't, like, that makes me view the whole thing. Like, all of a sudden I'm like, oh, team Yasmin, 100%. because when your parents are first getting divorced, and this was a few years ago, she's 17, she was probably, what, 13, 14 at the time, that is like such a huge life moment for you
Starting point is 00:31:17 that your parents are calling it quits for good and your dad is moving out of the country.
