Mention It All - Is Taylor Swift Doing Too Much? Plus The Iced Coffee Job Interview Debate

Episode Date: October 2, 2026

Sami and Jordana are back and catching up on everything they missed in September. First, they react to Alix Earle admitting she’s never read a book and debate whether you actually need to be well re...ad to be successful (which I guess not?). Then, they get into Taylor Swift’s latest music, why her recent wedding changed the way they see her, and whether it's time for a little break. Finally, they get into the viral debate over bringing an iced coffee to a job interview, whether Gen Z is rewriting workplace etiquette, and why context might matter more than the coffee itself. Starting point is 00:00:00 Calculating route to avoid seeing poverty. Turn left to bypass the unhoused youth sleeping on the street. Then keep right to skip by the lines of people waiting for food. Steer clear of the crowded shelter turning people away, then take the next exit. Let's stop looking away and get in the way of rising poverty. Starting point is 00:00:30 Do you want to change like diapers? I mean, you can show me what to do. Yeah, it's really not that hard. Like if I need to change a diaper, I can do it. Especially if you're well, I was saying, let's either way. I could say, if you're well rested, it's really not that hard. It's just like if you're tired. It's hard if you're tired.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Okay, well, I'm well rested. And it's also not like I have to do it endlessly. So yeah, I can change a diaper. I won't give you the 6 a.m. shift. We can teach them how to gossip like the professionals. I know so that they can, they too, can one day start a podcast maybe together. Maybe they could. Right?
Starting point is 00:01:02 Oh my God, they could be like Mary Kate and Ashley. Would you want your kids to be like Mary Kate and Ashley? Partly, like, yes and partly no. They're quite successful, but like I feel like there's like some darkness around it. No, I wouldn't. You're almost putting them in a position without their consent. Right. Because they're so, they can't even ask for it.
Starting point is 00:01:19 Yeah, exactly. Right. Do I think it's like so bad if you like, you know, let your baby kids like model in a something? Right. No, I think it's all like, you know, case by case. Yeah. It's also on a spectrum. How much are you revealing about them? How much do they want it versus you?
Starting point is 00:01:35 Hello and welcome to at Betches. That's the show we're on. I'm Sammy. And I'm Jordana and we are excited to be back with you guys. Happy fall. Happy fall. It does really feel like the fall. It does.
Starting point is 00:01:49 Even though I'm wearing a lighter outfit. That's fall beige. That's a fall neutral. Yeah, that's true. Fall neutral. Our alma mater has really done it this time. Horrific. You know.
Starting point is 00:02:01 not a proud moment because I mean we don't need to get into the details I don't think it's like we're not going to do that here but you know given that we did come from Cornell I just think about how like
Starting point is 00:02:15 there are so many situations in college not like to this extent but like there are so many times when like you put ourselves in in situations that could have been similar
Starting point is 00:02:28 and it's like I don't know I just think she's very very brave for taking this up and not letting it go because the school, like, obviously it's horrible that these men, grown adult legal men, did this to her. But it's, I think the worst thing is that the school just like, okay, like they're passive about it. Like, especially when you see like, like, like, I remember I read this article like a week or two ago and I didn't realize it was going to, it definitely gained like a lot of traction in the past few weeks.
Starting point is 00:03:00 Because the son, the Cornell son, named the people who were in the complaint. And it's like so horrific. And like you think about there's so many like of these instances. They're not like isolated, really. There are like things that happen all the time. Even like the hazing stuff. Like do you remember when we were there? Was it when we were there right after when there was hazing in one of these fraternities
Starting point is 00:03:21 and one of the kids like died? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That was our year. That was the year we graduated. Right. It's just crazy that like like this culture, this like thing is like,
Starting point is 00:03:30 still, like, it's kind of just like, there's one and then there's another one and no one really does anything. Well, I think someone will get kicked off and then people still, like, they just keep doing, like, yeah, you're right. Like, this is the thing. You can't, like, policy misogyny or, like, the desire to haze or, like, the desire to do this kind of, like, behavior out of people. But you can actually be strict about it.
Starting point is 00:03:55 Like, it's the fact that this, like, any of these guys could possibly get back and to school. The idea of that is crazy to me because it's like, let's say this is on your record from high school. You wouldn't get back in, you wouldn't get into Cornell. So it's like there has to be, you know how like brand deals have a morality clause? Like I think there should just be some sort of line where it's like, okay, maybe we have not held you to the criminal standard in New York state for like proving that you did this. But like actually, um, responding, ha, ha, like, laughing at a free pussy text is like, and when this girl is, when this story happened, like, that's not okay and you can't be in our school anymore.
Starting point is 00:04:36 I think there should be morality clauses for like work, for jobs that you get. There basically are. For most jobs. I don't know about most. Sorry, I don't know. Like many jobs. Many jobs. Well, it's like if you're representing the brand or the company or you're outward facing,
Starting point is 00:04:51 there is a, you know, a personal, whatever. What you're doing in your personal life does affect. I mean, here it's like you're on the school's campus. So it's like, obviously if something, you did something at the institution you're at, it should be even. I mean, it is like egregious. And it's because the whole student body knew that this happened and knew that they got away with it. And that's why it took two years, I think, for like something to like happen because it was she's suing because they didn't do anything about it. Right.
Starting point is 00:05:20 Is essentially like. Which is crazy. So it's like if someone can get back into school after they, they. They're involved in that situation. Everyone knows about it. That basically makes it impossible that any sort of like, any sort of person who wants to bring a sexual assault charge or case or anything that doesn't have like a video, basically.
Starting point is 00:05:41 Like, what would be the chance? How would you feel that like that the school would do anything? Like you know they wouldn't do anything. Right. So, yeah. My heart goes out to her. What is going on with you? Well, I was on my way here.
Starting point is 00:05:54 I saw something come across my feed that I feel like. like really means something to me. It was Alex Earle saying that she's never read a book. Wow. Right? It's like almost impressive. Was she embarrassed? No. She says she was like, well, maybe Dr. Seuss. She's never read any book. That's what she said. Like in high school and college. Did you watch Earl Meets World? I watched the first like 15 minutes. Did you like it? Not enough to keep watching. Okay. I figured. Okay. I watched Earl Meets World and I loved it. So I just think it's... You watch the whole thing. The whole thing. Maybe more than one. What did you love about it?
Starting point is 00:06:27 It was, okay, it's not like I loved it. Like, I loved, like, my favorite movie. It's more just like, this is great watching. Like, it just enjoyed it. It's enjoyable. Yeah. I mean, you like, you like that kind of show, I feel like more than I do. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:41 I just thought it was interesting. Like, I was just intrigued by it. Right. When I think about Alex Earl, I just think about when Jared and I saw her in Cannes when we were there and we had, we saw her and her boyfriend at the time, Braxton, the football player. He plays a role in the show. We were the only four people on the beach
Starting point is 00:07:01 and we just, we were like, wow, that couple is really hot. We just called them hot couple. And then later we saw them at like a can party and we were like, oh my God, hot couples here. And then somehow I came across Alex Earle's story and Jared was in the background of it.
Starting point is 00:07:16 And I was like, oh my God, hot couple is Alex Earl. That's so funny. I mean, it's like kind of cool that you didn't, you know what I mean? Yeah. But also very, also, it would be cool and funny if I wasn't, you know, the co-founder of media brand. No, it's almost cooler because you are.
Starting point is 00:07:31 I don't, maybe it's not. I don't know. Who knows? Anyway, now I know, now I know she is. She's much bigger now than she was then. How is it that I really enjoy watching this person who, like, fundamentally, I'm like, you've never read. Like, to me, like, if someone just said to me, like, they've never read a book, I'd be
Starting point is 00:07:46 like, what a fucking moron. Like, you know, like, this is the. And now I'm like, well, I like, well, I like her and, like, I enjoy watching her. It's like, we all contain multitudes. Right. And that's what the lesson is. You know, when I think, when I see the influencers posting like the high-low outfits, you know, where they're wearing like a design or something and then they're wearing like an H&M something.
Starting point is 00:08:05 This to me is like the, your taste is like the high-low culture. I agree. This is like Alex Earle is your H&M. You're right. And like Gloria Steinem is your, you know, Botega, whatever it is. You're so right. You're your Emez. That is so true.
Starting point is 00:08:22 That is literally how I look at things. Like I could just as I could just as easily enjoy something like that. Yeah. We don't need to commit to one, you know, to branding ourselves in one way or another. No, we're all everything. Yes. Why did she, can I can you just ask, tell me like why she came out with this? Yeah. Like, what was the context in what she was just like, she just wanted to make an announcement? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:08:46 Did anyone ask. Did someone ask her what her favorite books? I would see. Someone asked her what her favorite book is. No, I don't think. The only thing that does feel like a little icky about it is that there's like so many young girls who want to be like Alex Earle and the fact that she said she hasn't read a book. I feel like we'll make them think that reading books, you don't need to read books to like be a person in the world or be successful or be whatever. And that part, I guess you don't.
Starting point is 00:09:10 I guess you don't. I guess you don't if you want to be her. Well, if you look like Alex Earle and you act like he act like her and you have the family infrastructure. Like I think it's kind of underrated how much her family has contributed to this. Like, it's not like she's just out there on their own trying to make it. Like, you know, she has a really savvy dad who's, like, advocating for her. Like, this isn't, it's not, it's like how Taylor Swift didn't do this really, like, to really long.
Starting point is 00:09:35 Like, she had her parents doing things. And it's not to begrudge her. Like, I don't think that's a bad thing. But it's not like, but I see, I completely, that was like, that was like my third thought, exactly. It's like, yeah, all, now everyone's going to think it's, like, smart to not read. But then I'm thinking, like, okay. it will like, let's let everyone be dumb and we'll be smart because we've read.
Starting point is 00:09:54 Right. Look, you got to at least get Verity under your belt. Yeah. I mean, Verity is pretty low-hanging fruit. Did you like Verity? Yeah, it's fine. It was like fine, yeah. I feel like it was very high.
Starting point is 00:10:04 I read it when it was like so hyped. I think I read this on like my honeymoon like four years ago. I don't even remember it. Like it made. It was like fine. I can read books that are good. In the sea of like every book trying to be gone, girl, it got like close-ish, enough-ish, sort of not quite...
Starting point is 00:10:19 Everything's always trying to be gone girl. Right. I mean, gone girl was like the first of its kind. How do you write your gone girl? How do you write a gone girl? Like a new thing. Like a new type of thing. Well, I guess everyone's reading.
Starting point is 00:10:29 That's what everyone's reading. Because that's what they try to do. Well, I guess if no, they don't all think they're doing a new gone girl. I think that's the goal. Like, is like, that's like the hill to climb is to get to... Did you read yesterday? No. Should I should.
Starting point is 00:10:44 I think that even if you don't like it. The trad wife. Oh, no, I read everyone's lying to you. That's the Trad Wife line. I think, okay, I do think, I think you probably would like everyone's lying to you for Bunnymore. But yesterday year is like obviously everyone talks about yesterday year. You got to read it. All right.
Starting point is 00:11:02 And even if you don't like love it, please finish it because I really want to hear your full thoughts on the full thing. Okay. And I'd love to discuss it with you. I will watch it. So speaking of Dakota Johnson, what did you think of Taylor Swift's new album in which Dakota Johnson? in which Dakota Johnson stars in Patient Zero, which is the music video for one of her songs. Yes, yes, you got it.
Starting point is 00:11:24 Yes. You nailed it. Wow, you could replace Jashu-T. I thought it was like fine. Like, I was like very underwhelmed. I didn't really, I mean, I didn't listen like multiple times to every song, but I got sent. What was the one, Dakota?
Starting point is 00:11:43 Cleveland. Cleveland, was that it? Was it Cleveland? Cleveland. It was, I don't think that was the one I got sent. It was a D word, I think. What is the... Babylon.
Starting point is 00:11:51 Babylon. Yeah. B. Yeah. B. Babylon. I got sent Babylon. Did you like that one?
Starting point is 00:11:56 It sounded like a lot of her other songs. Okay. Yeah. I think that like pink clouding and Babylon kind of sound like kind of fall in the middle of her discography. I think Patient Zero, I liked. I liked the strings in the beginning. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:12:11 Something about the marketing like bothers me, but like I don't care. I like the song. And then Cleveland, I'm like, you had to go there. You had to ruin it by like putting out this fucking like bitter song. She's really reaching here. Listen, it's okay. When you're happy, a lot of people are less creatively interesting.
Starting point is 00:12:29 That's okay. It's good to be happy. I think like I don't think, I feel like she thinks she needs to release a new album every year. Because she needs. I think that's because she is obsessed with attention. Right. But it's like, why not like wait a little have like, work, like, work. You don't need to just put out music for the sake of putting out music.
Starting point is 00:12:48 Like, wait for something to, like, really inspire you and then put out, like, an album every other year. People will still remember you. Rihanna hasn't put out an album in a decade, and people still love her. I think that Taylor Swift is addicted to attention. Like, I genuinely think that the Erez Tor recalibrated her chemical sense in her head of, like, how much she needs to be receiving. these injections of affirmation or even negativity.
Starting point is 00:13:20 Like I do think that she is motivated by negativity and like a little bit addicted to it. Like the fact that she's mixing, like mixing the idea of like all these haters and how happy you are in a song. Like I just don't understand why psychologically like those things should go together in your mind. I think that's the only thing negative she has to talk about. Well, then don't talk about things that are negative. And I also don't believe that's the only negative thing she has to talk. about. What do you think she could talk about her wedding? No, I think. Where are the pictures?
Starting point is 00:13:51 She's not going to show them, I don't think. She's never, Dakota Johnson suggested that she's not going to show them. I think if she's not going to show them, she's annoyed at how they came out. No, I think she is annoyed with not how they came out, but I think she's annoyed with the reaction her wedding got generally. Yes. And so she doesn't want another round of it and it would make it feel, I understand why she was going to release. Because if she wants more attention, you just got married, like release some more information about that. She wants to hold it over people. She wants to have a thing.
Starting point is 00:14:19 And I think she, but for good reason, because she doesn't want to have a negative association once everyone like picks apart something. Right. I mean, I listen. Her engagement, I thought was lovely. I agree. Generally speaking. We did say that.
Starting point is 00:14:32 Yeah. It was lovely. We gave it like a 10 out of 10. Yeah, there was absolutely like that if she were, and she released a picture that she could have kept that private. She could have just flashed a ring here or there. But like, I don't believe. I think that she's a little embarrassed of some aspects of the wedding or she would have released pictures.
Starting point is 00:14:49 I agree with you. And I think I agree with you. I think that she, this is, this, I think she has reached a level where like the, everything is filtered to how it gets to her. And so she isn't receiving like a real sketch of the world maybe. Like, I just think there's something skewed in her. And it's, I actually. thought the other three songs were pretty good. Like they're solid Taylor Swift songs. But because this one Cleveland song was so like, people are like, oh, she's in on the joke. It's like, no, she's
Starting point is 00:15:24 not. She's written songs where she's in on the joke and they're clever and like smart. But like, you're literally being like, I'm married, Nana Nana Poo-Poo. Like, it's very immature. Right. And I just don't get why your haters and your marriage are like so conflated in your mind. Like she's written love songs about people with that, which has nothing to do with anyone else. Yeah. Plus, like, not that relatable. Forget related me. I don't need to be related to like, I can't relate to I can do with a broken heart. You know what I mean? I think people can. People can, but that's about like a breakup. But it's also about like performing for crowds of millions of people. Sure. But like, I think the like the notion of like I can like kill it while I'm like upset about my breakup is very relatable.
Starting point is 00:16:10 I mean, I think she could find something that's relatable in Cleveland. Like, oh, I finally am like following my bliss and whatever. Right. But I just think it's like very, I don't get it. Right. I have to say, I do think the Taylor Swift, Madison Square Garden Wedding, did sort of change how I view her. Why? Or like, in what way?
Starting point is 00:16:34 I think, like, if the rumors about it are true, like all the things that you sent me, about the like raffle and the buffet and the oh it's not just that she did at man's regarding and the like the like the list of the like of the time to entrances and all of that like i don't know it just made me think of her as like so much like more like more illusory and tacky i know what i think like whereas before i think that she was like in on everything yeah and like was like almost like the time she was doing that stuff was like just like playing to the people who were like that, who liked that kind of shit. But now I kind of think like she is that kind of person.
Starting point is 00:17:17 And it just kind of makes her, to me, seem like, lamer. I agree with you. But I agree with you that, yes, it does give me that change. But, like, I guess it doesn't, like, surprise me that much. Right. Well, maybe you knew more about her before. It's more than I'm surprised that she would do it, do some of those things. not that she would do them,
Starting point is 00:17:39 but that she wouldn't, like, understand how they would be perceived. Like, do you think the raffle is real? The raffle for, like, the Chanel bag that I read up? You think that's, like, a real thing? Yeah, why not? And I don't even think that's the worst thing. What do you think is the worst thing?
Starting point is 00:17:56 To me, that was, like, pretty low on the, or pretty high on the tacky scale. I have to remember what they were. It's more to me that, like, the raffle in the context of everything else I heard. I think maybe like the timed entrances is pretty bad. Like making people stand around without their phones because like your wedding arrival is whatever. I didn't like, I think that really, ugh. What were the other, what were some of the other things?
Starting point is 00:18:25 I don't know. The raffle stands out as the worst part. The buffet. Oh, the buffet. The buffet. Look, I don't know how you're going to do. She did it July 4th weekend at Madison Square Garden to me. also just like the look at the venue
Starting point is 00:18:39 the venue. Okay but you could have done it classy and we still haven't seen pictures so it worked in terms of the privacy okay I'll tell you what I thought was if this is true that there were people there who she didn't actually know like she just like sent them invitations because like that she have never met her. Oh I believe that I mean a lot of people at their wedding that they don't know
Starting point is 00:18:59 but like not because they're famous right because they left out of your obligated who did she invite I think she invited James Taylor James Taylor, who didn't, who I don't know that she's actually met before, who didn't go. It was Nikki Glazer who said that there were people. And I think Taylor's pissed that Nick Glaser said that. Yeah. I mean, I believe it.
Starting point is 00:19:18 James, I just remember James Taylor being invited. Brad Pitt. Brad Pitt, Tom Hanks, Adam Sandler, who officiated the wedding. I mean, Adam Sandler officiating your, it just got. I actually not that. I actually, right. Well, I actually do that. They do know each other.
Starting point is 00:19:31 I think it adds to the tackiness, though, because it's like, it's like, the whole wedding sounds like it was planned by like a middle school boy and girl like it sounds it's giving like bar and bat mitzvah like joint bar and bat mitzvah because it's like what would it like what would a 13 year old boy say he'd be like oh adam sandler so funny like he's gonna like he's gonna like he's gonna like marry us and she's gonna be like yeah we're gonna give away chenel bags it's gonna be like so cool like i'm gonna be the most popular girl in school yeah um like the whole thing just get like this i'm saying like it doesn't feel like an adult party to me it's just like i'm gonna show every that I'm like super rich and that I know like the coolest comedian maybe to some people to 13 year old boys
Starting point is 00:20:13 um he's pretty cool he's cool but it's like okay the reason they wanted them is because adam sandler's been married to his wife for a long time they have like a good family he is like a family man and i think they have met each other so it's not like okay this is like a bad it's not like having like chris brown officiate you know it's i mean fine but i just i just felt like you know what i mean it's there was nothing there was absolutely nothing that felt intimate about like the whole setup. Also 20 minute vows each. 20 minute? That's what I heard. That's crazy. I don't know if it's true. Also, okay, and pick the picture that I saw. They like constructed this castle. Okay. But like, the stadium seats weren't fully covered. Like when I envisioned this, I was like, okay, we're, you doing it in Madison Square Garden,
Starting point is 00:20:56 but we are like carpeting the floor. We are putting the whole thing in a tent so that you can't see that there's stadium seating. And then we're using that whole space. And it's literally just going to be like a room. And because you can, oh, the giant pictures of themselves. That's why I don't believe that she like doesn't want people to ever see pictures of the wedding. Because like if you wanted to be so private, why would you put out the like flashing sign
Starting point is 00:21:23 of like, congrats. Oh, that was pretty bad. And Travis. Like you clear, do you want to be private or do you not want to be private? Okay. I think there's. Sorry, we haven't really spoken about the wedding on a podcast before. Okay, what you're thinking is secret.
Starting point is 00:21:39 She doesn't want it to be secret. But like that's more attention to it. She wants it to be private, not secret. Right. So she wants exactly how a middle school girl would want it to be. Like, I want everyone to know it's my bat mitzvah, but like also know that they weren't invited. Yeah. Have you ever heard of everyone is 12 theory?
Starting point is 00:21:57 No. Okay. This guy tweeted, I can't remember his name, but I should credit him. Tell me who's that. He's like, I came up with a unified theory of, like, America right now. Everyone is 12. The person who wrote it is the songwriter Patrick Cosmos. And he writes this whole thread about, like, all these really funny things that
Starting point is 00:22:15 has just everyone in America is so immature. And, like, it's like, oh, we have our big, strong military. And, like, we have our, like, everyone wants their, like, McDonald's. And, like, just all of it was, like, so funny. Just look it up. Everyone's 12 theory. We're regressing. We're regressing.
Starting point is 00:22:29 And, yes, I think that that is. what it is. Right. Well, that's what I'm saying. Like, I feel like there's just like an ickiness into me about her. And again, I love her early stuff or even early stuff like two years ago. That's not early. Early. Like, I liked, um, what was the one that she, what was the one? No, I like the, yeah, I like the one about the breakup with Joe. Torture Poets. Yes. I think that was her last. Yeah. Yeah. I think that was her last really good album. I agree. That was only one album ago. And the album ago. No, that was two albums ago. No, like this is, this,
Starting point is 00:23:04 this is part of showgirl. Oh, this is part of showgirl. It's the encore. A year later, why don't you call it a different album? Even though, because it's only four songs. Also, she promised there would be no more. She like said, this album's only four songs. No, sorry, when she came out with
Starting point is 00:23:20 showgirl, she was like, it's 12 songs. It's perfect. It's like the child of 1989 and folklore. And it's like, not true. And she's like, there won't be more songs. now there are more songs. She's gaslighting everyone. I think that's what people are pissed about.
Starting point is 00:23:35 Like, that it's like, it feels like just like a money grab or like a fame or an awards grab and like, that she's trying to like unseat other pop stars. Just take a break. That's what I'm saying. Like she can't, she's like too calibrated to something else.
Starting point is 00:23:50 Like to need attention every so often. Right. Well, if I were her therapist, that would be what I would tell her. I think realistically she doesn't want anyone to get ahead of her. Like, it's a little late. I think Olivia Rodriguez is like already doing it.
Starting point is 00:24:04 I agree, but it's not about a head. Well, she didn't have to screw over Olivia Rodriguez with those credits. But she could have just been like the icon that's aging, like Madonna. Well, Madonna, I don't think Madonna is like happy about her aging. Okay, well, that's an internal problem. Like, I don't, I know she's not, but like, she's Madonna. if you're unhappy with being older and getting older with Madonna, then you have a psychological issue.
Starting point is 00:24:33 I don't think she, I don't think Taylor knows the art of like leaving when you're at the top. Or like leaving more, leaving them wanting more. Which is ironic because it's like that's what an encore is supposed to be. Right. You're supposed to like, want more. Like I don't want more.
Starting point is 00:24:50 Do you want one? Did you listen to those songs and you were like, I need more? No. You're right. You were like, those were fine. I've had enough. I was like... I'll see you next year with your new album.
Starting point is 00:25:00 No, it was like, these are solid songs. Taylor's such a good songwriter. And I don't feel the way I felt when the last, I don't know, 10 of her albums came out. Right. All right. Well, enough about Taylor. Calculating route to avoid seeing poverty. Turn left to bypass the unhoused youth sleeping on the street.

Starting point is 00:27:22 I have seen some like headlines and stuff about it. on the internet. How are you thinking? I am thinking, I like didn't really see like why it's that bad. Unless you're late to the interview, like, why can't you show up with a coffee? Okay. Like, are you not allowed to sip something if you're thirsty on an interview? I just don't understand what's wrong with it. Like I was, I was interviewing someone and they had a nice coffee. As long as they were on time and they were like dressed professionally and good in the interview, like I wouldn't care. Okay. I have the exact same opinion. Honestly, it's good. Aileen's not here. I have the exact same opinion as you do.
Starting point is 00:28:01 And when I first heard of this, my mom brought it up to me. She was like, did you see this thing with the ice coffee? And I'm like, yeah, who, like, I was like, yeah, I don't care. I wouldn't care if someone brought an ice coffee. I think I would do it. I was like, also I feel like I probably have hired people who did bring ice coffees. Right. Whatever.
Starting point is 00:28:17 Then my mom was like, no, you don't bring anything except I'm like, when was the last time you were? Okay. I feel like, you don't. A full meal? Like, I wouldn't pick, take out my like Chipotle in the middle of. She's like no ice coffee. She's like no ice coffee. I do think...
Starting point is 00:28:31 Your mom says no ice coffee. No, she's like the only thing you bring is yourself and like the copy of your resume. And like a pen? Yeah, she's like a pen, a paper and a copy of your resume. Which they've already seen online. Yes. And she's like, no, it's just, it's distracting. It's not professional.
Starting point is 00:28:47 I'm like, okay, whatever. What's distracting about that? I think what I saw some people saying is like an ice copy. It's like a face mask. Okay, some people I've seen say that like it leaves a. ring on the table or it sweats or it jingles or whatever. I don't know. Some people did say that. Okay. Then I'm like, okay, well, would a hot coffee be an issue? And I kind of don't think it would be as big of an issue. It's more about it being used. I do think so. But the other thing is that some,
Starting point is 00:29:13 okay, it turns out that this person saying it, she was a Fortune 500 recruiter. So she was providing advice targeted towards like people who are in situations that are more formal. Sure. And in that kind of situation, I do think that the test isn't really about the ice coffee. It's about like, can you appear for 30 minutes to like know your audience, to understand the audience and the vibe. Sure. You know, and I think that that's really what it is. Like, I don't think that it's, if you bring an ice coffee to work at Deloitte, anyone cares. And same if you come to an interview with Betches, you know, I don't think anyone cares. Maybe it's about the type of job you're looking But if you're at like a chase, they're looking, they're looking for no one to stick out for any
Starting point is 00:29:59 reasons. Right. They're looking for you to be very buttoned up. Sure. Exactly. And that I think makes sense for as advice from this Fortune 500 recruiter. Right. I still think if you were really great otherwise, it wouldn't really matter. I agree. Maybe like, if I was like looking for things to shit on you for, maybe I'd throw it in there. If I were working at Chase and hiring someone. And I also agree. I also think it's like millennial thing that like we wouldn't care we'd be like okay well are they like smart you know right
Starting point is 00:30:28 that's how we would look at things would you do it um I mean now I won't but what if you would have yeah I probably would have if I was giving like an interview to like a publication in person I think I would bring a coffee right
Starting point is 00:30:41 so would I but I guess like maybe you shouldn't I bring ice coffees all the time places yeah I just don't really see why it's like a big deal right I think this is how Gen Z feels. And I think they're right.
Starting point is 00:30:55 What about it on a Zoom interview? Can you have a nice coffee in a Zoom interview? I don't know. Honestly, I think that this is like... I don't think I would even notice if someone... We wouldn't. What if they had a glass of water? Is that allowed?
Starting point is 00:31:07 Yes. A glass of water is allowed. Yes. Okay. I think. As long as like it's not your glass, maybe, I don't know. Like, they offer you a glass. Okay.
Starting point is 00:31:15 So you have to be all... You can bring your own bottle. You can bring a bottle of water? Maybe you could bring a bottle of water, I think. But do you bring an enormous Stanley water bottle. Honestly, my feeling is that is that there is like a bit of a gendered
Starting point is 00:31:27 youth. There's like a bit of a association with ice coffee. Who's most likely to bring an ice coffee? Yes. So it's Or a giant water bottle. Well, I think water bottle can kind of cross. It depends on what the water bottle looks like. And like how many stickers do you have on it?
Starting point is 00:31:44 Right. We had a U-Up, think red flag or deal breaker where someone brought like a gallon water bottle to a date. Yes. That's insane. Which is crazy. I mean, if you brought a gallon to a water bottle to an interview, I would say that would be crazy. That would be a distraction.
Starting point is 00:31:58 But you would keep it in your bag. You would hope. I don't know. I just think, I think this is one of those things that's like, it does show a, I think the, context matters. Context matters is the real lesson. Literacy matters because like she wasn't saying, never bring a nice coffee to any interview. She's like targeting a specific type of person who's trying to get a specific type of job
Starting point is 00:32:19 and it finds its way out there. But I do think it shows like a generational divide because if I were Gen Z and I were dealing with this labor market and rents and prices, I would be like, fuck you. I'm bringing my ice coffee and I don't want to work for you otherwise. Like this would interage me too. Well, you wouldn't be interviewing probably at like those super buttoned up companies. I would imagine. I would imagine. Would you care if your therapist had an iced coffee? No. Would you care if your therapist was dressed down? No. Was in a sweatsuit? No. Was in a sports bra? Yes.
Starting point is 00:32:50 Okay. That's where I draw the line. Sports bra. But if she's wearing a workout outfit, I don't know if I'd like that. It depends on what the workout outfit is. Like there's more appropriate work. Like there's like more coverage.
Starting point is 00:33:03 Ones that might look more like a regular. It wouldn't bother me. Also, how well do I know the therapist? Like have we been meeting for years versus like. Is it your first? Or is our first visit. And again, that's the job interview. Contacts matters.
Starting point is 00:33:18 Right. Well, it's like going on a date. Your first date. The first date was someone you should. should probably put a little effort in. Right. If you want to go on, if you want to go out to dinner
Starting point is 00:33:24 when you're three years in, you can wear your sweatpants. Right. I think that that's also like a piece of this, which is like, people are like, Gen Z doesn't want to like have any sort of social, like they just want like wild anything.
Starting point is 00:33:36 And like, yeah, that's kind of the world that they grew up in. No rules. Right. Or there are rules, but they don't like apply evenly. And so like everything's futile
Starting point is 00:33:45 because like the world's rigged against them, which like it kind of, they've been like just. destroyed mentally by their phones, some of them. Well, that stinks. Sorry. Well, we didn't do it. Yeah, that's true.
Starting point is 00:33:58 It's not our fault. We didn't invent Facebook. I'm so excited to see the social reckoning. When is that coming out? I don't know, but I'm excited for it. I wish they kept the same cast. No, it's a different movie. I know, but isn't it like sort of a sequel?
Starting point is 00:34:10 Jesse Eisenberg didn't want to do it. No, no, no. It's like a totally different. He didn't want to do it because he doesn't want to be associated with Mark Zuckerberg. Oh, you know what? I could see that because, like, I do feel like that's the only way I see. him now and he probably has been trying to work really hard to like not be cast as like a Mark Zuckerberg. Well, I see him in other, I've seen him in enough things that I don't only associate him with that
Starting point is 00:34:29 now, but this would do it again. And this would like re-up the- He's so good at it though. I feel like that was really good. He just, it's because he doesn't like Mark Zuckerberg. He doesn't want to be associated with Mark Zuckerberg. No, I get that. But like, Jeremy Strong looks insane in that like he, he actually like, I understand why like someone would be a good actress or a bad actress or actor. is because, like, what Jeremy Strong is, like, he is embodying Mark Zuckerberg. Like, it's scary. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:57 I mean, that's what acting. How did he do that? How do that? I think it's like a personality disorder, probably, that, like, you're using to your advantage. You're probably right. Because also, he is a method. He stays in that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:10 To me, it's, like, the idea of a very good actor is, like, kind of scary. Like, a really good actor would be, like, someone I'd be, like, a little afraid of. Well, Brian Cox, who played Logan Roy, was, like, he said like back when succession was out like that Jeremy Strong like took it like too seriously and that like being it was like difficult to work with him and that like he sees acting as someone who can like put the character on and take it off not have to like live as Mark Zuckerberg to maintain this. That's an interesting. I think that's like a debate within acting circles. What do they call it? Method. Method. Yeah. But you know, you don't remember about a woman who does method.
Starting point is 00:35:47 you don't I feel like Charlize Theron did method for something only monster I think but I don't think she really did it fully Maybe not Who do you think our betch of September was Since we were gone pretty much
Starting point is 00:36:00 The entire month of September Olivia Rodrigo With Daisy Chain Fields And you can You seem pretty sad for a girl so in love She's just killing it I love it I also think Olivia Rodrigo
Starting point is 00:36:11 Has mastered the art Of like just how much To be like expose herself Like I see her a great amount. I'm never like, where has she been, but I'm never like, all right, it's enough Olivia Rodriguez. Like, I think that she has a great level of being out there. Faturation. I agree with you. And I mean, there's many reasons for that. But I think the real core reason is that she actually knows, like, what she wants to do as an artist. And so she's very focused on, like,
Starting point is 00:36:40 I will do these things. And I will not, like, get kind of, like, distracted. Right. I don't even know. Is she dating someone? I don't even know. Is she dating someone? I don't even know. She's been seen with people, but not, like, I don't think it's, I don't think, like, official or anything. Well, it's not, like, the focus of, like, her press. It has been. Private Equity Associate and Financer Julianneberg.
Starting point is 00:37:02 So he's, like, a normal guy. Interesting. She's cool. I really like her. And I think she's really thoughtful about what she's making. I think she also took her management in-house. So, like, she fired her original management. And now she has, like, she's doing the Taylor Swift, which is, like, in-brand.
Starting point is 00:37:17 Like, it's all in internal, which I think is really smart for her because I bet you whatever happened with her old management is what, like, led to the Taylor Swift issue. I could see that. All right. Well, we will be back next week. Thank you guys for catching up with us. And that's it for us for today. Bye.
