Ha ha, laugh, funny.
Mention It All, a Bravo by Betches podcast.
We don't say that, but now we said it.
With me, Dylan Hafer.
We're going to check me, though.
Hey, everyone.
Welcome back to the Mention at All podcast.
I'm Dylan Hafer, and I am so excited to be joined for the first time in over three years, I think, by Whitney Rose.
Hi, Dylan.
First time in three years and in person.
Yes, in person.
The last time we talked on my.
was season one of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.
You've come a long way.
I mean, what has changed a lot?
What hasn't changed?
It has been such a journey for you guys over the last few years.
You're in your fourth season now.
You just said before we started recording that you feel like you had a great season.
How are we feeling about everything?
I feel great.
I do feel like this has been my best year.
I mean, nothing will be worse than season three for me, just where I was at in life and what I was
dealing with. So it's just been amazing to be in a better place. I'm starting to speak my mind a little more,
getting more comfortable. I'm just more comfortable with who I am. Yeah. In terms of,
not just for you personally, but in terms of making the show, do you feel like it gets easier for you
as you've done it for longer? Or are there kind of more things to think about? Yeah. I think it
It definitely gets easier because you know what to expect.
In the beginning, you're just like, you don't really understand what's going on,
what you're going to be held accountable for, things like that.
So in that way, it's easier.
It's like a system now.
However, the pressure gets harder, like more pressure.
Yeah.
And I think so the relationships get more dynamic and more layered and more.
And you guys have gone, you know, you really have not had a lot of long breaks or anything between seasons.
Like it really is, you know, we've been on this ride.
It feels like right along with you.
And, you know, it's close quarters for some of you guys that have been there the whole time.
Oh, yeah.
And Salt Lake never takes a break.
Like us women, even if there's not cameras, there's something going on on Twitter, on Instagram.
Someone, you know, calling someone.
Like Salt Lake City never sleep.
I was talking to Lisa last week about your BravoCon panel last year, which was like a whole other.
You guys, I feel like you're really.
relationships really like we've kind of seen it all and it, you know, there's not a lot of space that we're not,
that we're not getting inside of. You know, you would think that, but then season four happens.
Okay. So going into season four, so the premiere, great premiere, it really is a little bit of a reset from
season three. Obviously, the last couple of years, there's been so much going on in the show.
I want to talk about your dynamic with Heather, which is obviously,
been a roller coaster the last few years. So you met at the very beginning of the season for the
first time in a while. What was your kind of gut feeling going into season four of am I open to this?
What is the, what's the goal moving forward for you? Yeah, initially, especially after BravoCon,
I was like, hell no. I'm not going to move forward. We're going to just be in the same space.
I was very hesitant and I did not trust that it was a safe relationship for me.
However, once we sat down and really got vulnerable and talked it out, we realized how much we love
each other and miss each other.
And it felt really good.
So I started out hesitant, but I'm so glad I pushed myself to trust her.
What was the experience of doing girls trip like in Thailand?
Like, do you feel like that was, obviously it wasn't like,
super smooth the whole time.
But do you feel like overall it was like up in the plus column?
Oh, yeah.
I loved everything about Ultimate Girls Trip.
I wish Heather and I could go back as close cousins and not feuding cousins.
But I, Girlship was like Housewife Olympics.
And I just felt like I was a part of something.
Like I got to be with Portia.
These Housewives I've watched for a long time and just getting to know them,
it was next level.
I loved everything about it.
Even when it was chaotic and drama was breaking out, it was like even better.
Yeah.
It's hard to explain.
It's like if you were in sports, I made it to the Olympics.
Yeah.
Well, I mean, also there was on that season that you were on specifically in the way you kind of were in pairs, most of you, it was like there were a lot of different layers going on of what happened in everybody's separate shows.
And then it's coming together.
And it really made an interesting kind of package, I think.
Yeah.
Well, in Potomac, so Giselle and Candice had just wrapped filming.
Miami had just wrapped.
Heather and I just were airing or just aired.
Yeah.
Wait, one more way.
No, we were off-season.
Yeah.
So we had just filmed is what it was.
And so we're in this beautiful house and it's just so many layers, so many dynamics,
fights breaking out.
But you're looking out at the most beautiful scenery, the most beautiful, like fighting
in Thailand was the best thing.
ever. And you finally got to leave the trip.
Yeah.
Leave the country on a trip.
It's like, yes, my first out of country trip.
It was amazing.
And, you know, I would do it all over again.
Yeah.
So coming into this season, obviously, you know, lots of shifting dynamics.
But Mary coming back is one that I think, um, for you especially is, is really
interesting the way that you guys related to each other or not in season two.
So it's my understanding that you did not know she was coming back.
Is that accurate?
I mean, yeah, I did not know.
There was rumors.
And I knew at some point I'd see her again because we're so connected, even outside of the women.
I know her family.
I know a lot of people who know Mary.
So I knew there would be a point in time where I'd probably cross past with her.
But no, I never expected that she would come back and hang out with the ladies.
What was?
She doesn't like us.
That's the funny thing with Mary is that I think her, her, like, personal.
Jonah on the show of, like, the way people think that she's really funny and, you know,
kind of the things that come out of her mouth feels sort of separate from her relationships
with you guys as people.
Yeah.
In that way, I was, it's always really entertaining to have Mary around, especially when
you have the fun, funny Mary.
Like, you can't, she's amazing.
I didn't really, I was hesitant again to, like, see her.
it was good to see her the way we left things after season two and then her not getting a chance
to like sit down with me and work it out or share her side of the story if you remember there
was so much information swirling online about her and we never got a chance to hear her side yeah
well i remember when she when she didn't come to the reunion on season two it's it's unfortunate for
the whole kind of product of the show just to not have that person's side of the story yeah and
And even though that reunion was going to be set up mostly her and I,
you know, that was the chunk of season two, her and I.
I mean, aside from, you know, the Spurner Van moment.
It was one chunk.
But I need for me, for me, like my personal, what I was going through at the time,
Mary was heavily involved.
And for her to not show up was hard for me because I wanted resolve too.
Because everyone's like, oh, you dodged a bullet.
And I'm like, no.
No, like we need to work at this out.
Right. And when these people are actually in your life and it's it's your personal situation that you're dealing with, like it doesn't feel good to then just never get to have a closure with that person.
No, absolutely. And because we have so many mutual, I'm friends with her family and that hindered our relationship. We no longer see some of our really good friends. So it's, it was hard.

Girl, winter is so last season.
And now Springs got you looking at pictures
of tank tops with hungry eyes.
Your algorithm is feeding.
you cutoffs, you're thirsty for the sun on your shoulders. That perfect hang on the patio
sundress. Those sandals you can wear all day and all night. And you've had enough of shopping
from your couch. Done hoping it looks anything like the picture when you tear up on that envelope.
It's time for a little in-person spring treat. It's time for a trip to Ross. Work your magic.
You've been through a lot of various different personal struggles and stuff over the show
over the course of the few years. How is your kind of approach to,
bringing that stuff on camera because I imagine you you have to kind of protect yourself in a way
but at the same time I think you know viewers obviously applaud you for being so open about stuff
yeah thank you it was it's been hard I mean I if I knew if I was going to do this I was going to
no pun intended mention at all like I'm not I'm going to be me I'm going to share what's
really going on in my life that's what I look to reality TV when I watch it I like to see the
people who are sharing reality and not you can tell when someone's holding back or not it's a lie or
something I don't know um it's hard it's it's really hard but when I wanted to quit and felt like I
couldn't keep going just with how deep my personal stuff was um I was really encouraged to push through
it and I'd be grateful I did and I absolutely am like I needed to go through all that hell to be
where I am now. The healing journey. The healing journey. And we are healed and season four is
great. There is someone on the horizon who seems to have some, some thoughts on the healing
that's taken place and that's Monica coming into the show this year. What's your kind of like
Monica 101? What's your overview on how you feel about her and her position in the cast?
So I was really hesitant just knowing how she's connected to the group. I was
you know, worried. However, she and I hit it off. Like we, we had a great, um,
connection instantly and she's spicy. She's a lot. But one thing I meant love, loved about having
Monica or love about having her around. Um, she says all the things that we're thinking,
but none of us would dare say because of the dynamics of our relationships. Yeah, maybe sometimes
on a show like this, when you guys have so much history and complicated layers with each other,
having somebody who's a little bit of coming in with a fresh pair of eyes sometimes can
like say what everyone's thinking without as much, you know, baggage around it.
And maybe, yeah, exactly.
Like it's just calling out the elephant in the room because she doesn't have any.
It's just not the same dynamic.
Yeah.
I was curious though on the premiere, you know, she, she hinted that she knows some dark secrets.
I think she said about Lisa and John maybe and other people in the.
group. Do you feel like this is kind of just she's heard stuff from Jen and she's kind of
deciding what to believe? Or do you feel like there is kind of an agenda with her coming on to the show?
Feel like especially watching that back, it feels like an agenda. However, it's hard to know because
in the same breath she's saying, oh, I heard all this from Jen. So like, and she's calling them out.
But then she's saying, but it's from Jen, who's a liar.
I mean, so it's hard to like, that's where I'm like, huh, that's a bit of a red flag.
Right.
That's where I think the agenda filling comes from.
Right.
That it's like, okay, so you've heard this stuff.
But then if you're going to actually be in the group, maybe then we need to drop all that.
Well, and I feel like there's different ways that people integrate into a group.
It's like I'm either going to come in with no opinions, have a fresh start, get to know people for my own opinion.
You know, confident people.
like secure people tend to come in that way.
Or there's the approach of, I'm going to come in with tea and dirt because that's going to gain
favor.
So there's many ways.
And I feel like Monica just kind of came in that way.
Yeah.
But I had a very different experience with her.
Yeah.
I mean, it sounds like you've been able to kind of like form your own opinion through experience
with her.
Yeah.
And it changes a lot.
So we'll see how it goes.
Lots to come on the season, I'm sure.
How do you feel about it?
Angie being in the group more full time this season. I don't feel like we've gotten a ton of
your experience with her yet. Yeah, I love Angie. I love having her around. You'll see our friendship
really throughout the episodes. We've evolved into this like really beautiful friendship.
Our husbands are friends. Our kids are friends. We tease that Electra and Brooks, we're going
to arrange their marriage. You know, like that's, it's been really. It's been really
nice. I think she definitely earned her spot. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it felt a little bit like the Olympics
at the end of last season where it was like, which Angie's kind of get the cold? It was, right? And we can
finally no longer call her Angie Kay. She deserves just Angie. We're working on shedding the Angie
K energy. Yeah. It very much was like that. And honestly, it was the end of last year when we were in
San Diego and she threw that Greek goddess dinner when just shit hit the fan.
That's when I really gained respect for her.
I was like, okay, I'm going to give her a chance.
Her and her remarkable sunglasses collection.
They're like the same size as her head, always.
The visors.
That's how I find her.
Like, where's Anne and her?
You can always see her hair swift in and her sunglasses coming through.
I love her.
I adore her.
I'm curious.
So in the first episode, we get a lot of Meredith,
thoughts about you coming into the season.
Yes, we do.
I was a little surprised the specific vibe that was coming in that direction.
Were you also surprised in that way?
No, I wasn't surprised.
It caught me off guard.
Like, I didn't understand how, like, hard she had to reach for something to be mad at me
because she was just mad at me.
We had a lot of leftover emotions and feelings from the year of prize.
with when everything crumbled between her and Lisa and I mean Heather.
Like Meredith and I never got to talk through the fact that I kind of took the fall for her
pulling in rumors, you know?
Yeah.
So like we have a lot of like there was a lot of leftover like residual and you'll see it.
It comes up quite a bit.
Yeah.
So did you feel like in the at the beginning of the season the bathtub comments that you made?
Did you feel like that was kind of like a little bit not the real root of the feelings that were happening?
Absolutely.
I feel like she was reaching for the bathtub just to have a reason to be mad at me.
I thought the bathtub comments were really funny, by the way.
Watching that back, I mean, living through it, it was really weird.
It was like I was with my sister and we just couldn't stop, like going back and forth.
Like it was the weirdest.
Meredith and I have never fought like that before.
At first I thought, oh, this is a joke.
Right.
And then she was dead-ass serious and got madder and matter the more I poked at it.
Well, I feel like also you guys have all been in this, you know, pressure cooker together for all this time.
And it feels like there has been such real stuff that's happened on this show that then when you have, you know, a tablet article with a comment about the DNA in the bathtub, it's like, that's the thing that's going to be.
Right.
That's the thing you're mad at.
Okay.
Because I could have listed 10 more things that I've said that you could be mad at.
But, no, it was great.
And we laugh at it now.
Like, we joke with bathtubs now.
Okay.
I feel like you all, you know, all of you guys on the show have had your, like, you know,
your fun moments.
Like Justin's here.
You and Justin have definitely had your, uh.
We've had our moments.
But listen, as long as you're together through it all, you can get through anything.
Totally.
The good, the bad, the cringy, the amazing.
And where do you, what's your official position?
on the rumor from the reunion last season about the ketamine.
Were you involved aware the root cause of that in any way?
Okay.
The first time I heard ketamine was at reunion.
So, and I was with Meredith the night that she's being accused of doing it.
And I know she did not take ketamine.
Okay.
So not only were you not the cause of the rumor,
but you also are debunking the rumor itself.
Yes.
Okay.
Like the actual, the rumor, I mean.
I remember when Lisa said that and it was one of those moments where people on, you know,
Twitter and social media were like, wait, what are we talking about?
Right.
And I don't know what people do behind closed doors.
Sure.
But like in the night that is in question, I was with Meredith.
And I know what we took.
It was Ph.C.
Okay.
Like it wasn't that big of a deal.
Right.
Yeah.
So then it must be kind of a, it must be kind of a weird experience for you at this, you know,
brunch that Heather's hosting to turn around and have Meredith then suddenly think that you
were the one who started it.
Well, yeah.
Thank you, cousin, Heather.
Did you see that?
Little tornado come through.
It was, yeah, again, I was a reach.
It was, I had no idea she'd bring up ketamine.
That was, I was like, what?
Yeah.
I had like, I only know of ketamine people who use.
use it for therapy with doctors, you know.
It's just, it's very specific.
To knock out horses. Yes, the horse.
The horse.
Yeah, surgery or whatever. I don't know.

I am curious. So last time you were on this podcast, I think things were not great with Lisa.
Right. I think you maybe got some hot water called her a snake or something. There was some, you know, some dynamics going on.
You've come a long way with Lisa Barlow.
I have.
What is the, what would you say is like the status of that relationship now and how?
How have you gotten there?
Yeah, I love Lisa.
I mean, I don't think I ever thought we'd be friends.
Like, I've never been so triggered by someone in my life, and I trigger her.
But what we didn't realize is we never had this space to get to know each other because we were both in duos.
And because of Lisa and Heather's ongoing on and off beef, right, I naturally never got the time to get to know Lisa.
and when I stood up for her in Arizona, that opened up the space of a friendship to form.
Do you feel like you're in a more open place with everyone in the group and your relationships
are kind of on more of like a one-on-one basis now than they used to be?
Yeah, absolutely.
They're all independent of each other, which can be sticky at times.
But overall, I'm great with everyone in the group.
You're like, my side of the street is clean for the moment.
Uh-huh.
for the moment.
I feel like that has to be a good feeling.
You know,
you said it's a good season for you,
but going in to feel like you really are able to,
you know,
go to sleep at night about everything that you did
with each individual person.
Yeah.
It's a good place to be.
It is.
And there's stuff coming.
There's more coming up.
I mean,
Meredith and I are still not done and it's great.
It's some good stuff coming.
But, yeah, the only one that it is.
It's just, I think I've finally realized that everyone's putting themselves first, so I need to put myself first.
I know that sounds really selfish, but that's the way the world works.
And once I, like, focused on myself and my individual relationships, the group dynamic changed for me.
Well, I think the group dynamic has changed a lot for everyone.
And so it makes sense that you're, you don't want to be stuck in the same place while other people are, you know, doing what's going to make sense for them.
Seriously, after last year, when there's chance to start.
start over and a lot of the toxicity is gone, we needed it. Everyone was craving a new energy.
Yeah. I think Lisa was like, I would have loved like one more month of my own time before filming,
but it's good that you were able to kind of keep that mindset, even though the timeline was so
crazy. Yeah, we, that was the only way to get through it, honestly. You just had like, you,
you'll go crazy trying to change, like, control things you can't change, right?
And I think that this is a really cool opportunity for all of us, and we had to make it work.
Yeah, it's like a little bit of a fresh start.
Yeah, and like it means so much to all of us that we had to save Salt Lake City.
Like, the world hasn't seen all the essence of Salt Lake City yet.
So, yeah.
It was just kind of really tainted for a minute.
Well, based on the,
premiere. That's all I've seen. It seems like Salt Lake City is in good hands.
We got it. And I'm excited to see what's to come. It's great. I think you're going to love it.
I can't wait to hear your feedback. Amazing. Well, Whitney, thank you so much for being here. I'm glad we
