Mention It All - Kyle's Strategy Isn't Working
Episode Date: January 15, 2025Dylan is back for another Wednesday packed with Beverly Hills and New York reactions, but first, he’s spiraling about the impending TikTok ban. Without TikTok, where will Bethenny go to drag Chanel,... or put chicken salad spots on the map?! Pivoting back to Bravo, Dylan has a lot of questions for Kyle Richards, because her strategy on this season of RHOBH is getting worse with each passing episode. As she gets caught lying about her texts with PK (and maybe her marriage), pretty much everyone else is having a good season, even those without storylines. Later, Dylan turns his focus to RHONY, where Ubah’s attitude is turning the Puerto Rico trip into a headache. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Betches Media presents.
Ha ha, laugh, funny.
Mention It All, a Bravo by Betches podcast.
We don't say that, but now we said it.
With me, Dylan Hafer.
We'll go and check me, both.
Hey, everyone, welcome back to the Mention at All podcast.
Oh, it is Wednesday, and we have Beverly Hills to talk about.
We have New York to talk about.
I feel like I have given New York a lot of time and energy this week, because if you listen to
Monday's episode, you'll know that I had Jessel Tank on the podcast.
It was Jessel's first time.
on the show, my first time really sitting down and talking with her since before her first season of Housewives of New York even aired.
So it was more than time for a catch-up, but I also feel like where we are in the season, Jessel was kind of like the one person that I really wanted to like connect with, get on the same page with, and just sort of like get the real tea about what's going on.
So if you haven't listened to that episode, we got into some good stuff about this season and, you know, this trip to Puerto Rico.
kind of feels never ending, but it's plugging right along, and the finale is next week. So we will get
into that just a little bit more. Like I said, Beverly Hills, but first of all, I want to talk about
something. So TikTok is maybe probably possibly getting banned. I really don't know what is happening
there. But I just am going to miss some of the Housewives' behavior on TikTok if it is going
away, which like maybe if you're listening to this in a week, you'll be like, ha-ha-ha, silly, the Supreme
would never do such a thing as banned TikTok.
Why would you even think that?
But right now it's looking kind of real.
It feels like it's like 1145 p.m. on the doomsday clock over on TikTok.
And I talked on Monday about the fires in Los Angeles obviously have been a thing.
And this feels stupid related to the end of TikTok.
But I was on TikTok the other night.
And who comes up on my TikTok for you page?
But Lisa Barlow.
and she is posting in support of Heidi and Spencer.
And Heidi and Spencer, if you have not been on the internet much in the last week,
their house did tragically burn down in the fire.
And they have been urging everyone, Spencer really more than Heidi,
to stream Heidi's 2010 pop music masterpiece, I think, superficial, this album.
And it has gone to number one on iTunes.
It's trending.
people are posting about it.
Everybody is loving it.
Brody Jenner, like, reactivated his TikTok after two years.
And Lisa Barlow never wanted to not hop on a bandwagon.
She posts, like, the glamiest photo ever of herself at some lounge with a big Vita sign in the background.
I don't know how much she had to pay for whatever this venue is to put up a Vita sign,
because I still, in all my years, have never been able to find Vita tequila out in the wild.
But she posts this photo with the high.
Heidi Montag's song, I'll do it playing, which honestly, kind of a deep cut.
Not one of, you know, I feel like superficial is kind of like the biggest song.
You say, I'm superficial.
Some call me a bitch.
They're just mad because I'm sexy, famous, and rich.
Like, that's like the song.
The first song of the album is, look how I'm doing.
That is probably my favorite.
But Lisa Barlow going for a little more of a deep cut.
And then the caption is just, at Heidi Montag needs to rebuild.
Heart emoji.
where is this content going to live if we don't have TikTok?
Now, Lisa Barlow is not like the most prolific housewife on TikTok.
I would say that crown is resting solidly on the head of Bethany Frankel.
She, of course, has like built up a whole identity on TikTok in the last couple of years of rating chicken salad and loudly eating on camera and going after Chanel and going after Bravo a little bit and saying that things aren't on the level and trying drugstores.
makeup and doing dollar tree halls. And it really is like for the amount that I like dog on Bethany
for just being one of the most chaotic people on the planet, like Bethany has given us so much in
these last couple of years. We don't necessarily love all of it. We don't, we don't necessarily
need all of it. But it is kind of wild to think that like, is Bethany going to bring that persona
over to Instagram if TikTok goes away? I don't really think so. I don't I don't think it would translate.
because as much as we love our reels, you know, like, I'm an Instagram girlie.
I became an adult in the 2010s.
Instagram is where I feel probably most at home.
But TikTok just has that like that jeanissequois that is like a little less polished,
a little more chaotic, a little more fun.
It's like the fun younger cousin that teaches you the trends at Thanksgiving and is like,
what are you wearing?
Those jeans are too tight.
I put on skinny jeans yesterday in the morning.
and I immediately took them off.
I was like cleaning stuff out of my room.
This is such a tangent.
I can't even.
But I was like cleaning out my room the other day
and I found this pair of black skinny jeans
and I was like, oh, like, I used to really like these jeans.
Maybe I'll like work them back into the wardrobe.
I literally had them on for 30 seconds
and was like, I look like an absolute clown.
So suffice to say, TikTok has taught us a lot.
I'm not downloading that Red Note app.
I don't care about my data.
I don't care about security.
Like, that feels like something that's not my concern.
But, like, I just don't think, I don't think that's where I belong.
But I don't know.
I'm going to miss TikTok.
Tiffany Moon.
Where is she going to show off all those Birkins?
She's more iconic on TikTok than she ever was on Real Houseways of Dallas.
And that's not even, I'm not dragging her.
She just was only on the show for a season.
But she's got over a million followers on TikTok.
What is Tiffany going to do?
And then Brittany Bateman, I mean, she's been on Salt Lake City for six minutes.
And she is all over TikTok.
She's singing.
She's doing trends.
She's talking to the camera.
She is having the time of her life.
And it just feels so wrong that we could just take that away from her.
Because we know that she is probably not going to have a man after, you know, she and Jareda Osmond have been official now for like three weeks.
So that, it's a ticking clock.
I don't know if she's going to have a housewife's contract after this season.
She's not everybody's favorite in the group.
I think that's fair to say.
she's recording people on the bus.
Brittany needs an outlet.
Bethany needs an outlet.
Tiffany Moon needs an outlet.
And that is what worries me about TikTok being banned.
Also like other stuff.
But where are the Housewives going to post chaotic content that doesn't quite fit on Instagram?
I just also like there are so many regular people out there that are making hilarious Housewives content, hilarious Bravo content.
one of my favorite things.
I know I haven't been doing married to medicine justice this season.
The schedule has been tough.
I'm going to get back into it.
There's a moment from an old season of Married to Medicine where Quad has this like absolutely ridiculous like quote where she's like a friendship is supposed to be love, support.
God damn.
And she just starts like sobbing in the confessional and watching people like lip sync to that or re-exing.
create that or like duet that sound on TikTok, it makes me laugh every single time. And the idea
that stuff like that is just going away, it's a little wild to think about. So good, so good,
so good. Everything you want for summer is at Nordstrom rack stores now and up to 60% off. Stock up and

You know what else is wild?
Is how Kyle Richards is handling this entire season of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills
because it's kind of feeling.
And this is crazy to say because it's like this is Kyle Richards.
Like Mrs. OG, she's been on the show literally forever.
She's kind of all alone on Scary Island with no friends right now.
It's not going great for her.
because going into this season, obviously people were not, like, loving the way that she handled
her whole saga with Mauricio last season. It felt like we didn't necessarily get, you know,
the full, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. So help her God. Like, it felt like we were
missing some stuff on purpose. So going into this season, obviously she and Maricio are still
separated. But then also everything that's going on with Dere, like it felt like it was a sort of an
opportunity where Kyle could take it in either direction she wanted, but like, she had some work
to do. Like, I think we're in an era of housewives where, like, a lot of our iconic OGs are no
longer on their franchises. We've had, like, people come and go. Everybody's replaceable, yada, yada, yada.
If, I mean, if you're like a Kyle Richards stand from day one, I respect that. I get that.
But, like, in a logistical sense, everybody's replaceable.
Kyle, this season, I don't really understand the choices she's making.
The way that she is handling this whole situation with Doreet,
she's acting like she is standing on the highest, you know, driest ground that she possibly could.
And that for Doreet to even have like a hint of an issue with her is like, that's her problem.
She's being ridiculous.
call me when you come to your senses.
And watching the show, I certainly don't see it that way.
I don't think most people watching the show see it that way.
And it feels like every week her fellow cast members are like drifting closer and closer to team
to Rete and further away from Team Kyle.
And this text thing with P.K.
Feels like sort of the straw that's threatening to break the camels back.
Because it's been a few weeks now, you know, we heard from Garcell before.
the holiday break that P.K. texts
her.
Still makes me laugh every single time.
I heard that P.K.
texts her.
But now we've gotten a little more context.
Last week at the Viper Room,
when Kyle and Derreet were
yelling across the table,
which first of all,
the visual of Derreet being like
full voice screaming
at Kyle not to raise her voice at her,
that is just like,
that's exactly.
what housewives is for.
Like the lack of self-awareness in that moment on DeRite's part where she's like,
why are you yelling at me?
You don't get to raise your voice.
You don't get to talk to me like that.
Put the vein back in your forehead, Kyle.
You have never been more activated than you are right now.
Like, kindly take a step back, take a deep breath,
take maybe a sip of water or of your vodka, you know, the, you know the drink.
But like, Kyle,
explaining last week that her text conversation with P.K. is solely limited to memes and jokes
and that she makes it sound very one-sided, that mostly P.K. will send her the memes and jokes
and she'll, you know, laugh react or like double tap or, you know, ha-ha, which like, it always
felt a little weird. It felt like there was something we were missing. So this week,
we're picking up where we left off. Derreet storms out of the Viper Room.
Kyle says that she's done, but she also agrees that she won't text P.K.
anymore if she's hurt by it, which like, okay, feels like it could be progress, feels like
there could be, you know, some momentum there.
But then things don't really get better from there.
Because Kyle at first is adamant that she, you know, hasn't been texting P.K.
About anything related to his relationship with Doreet.
When she goes to Sutton's house, she and Sutton,
and Garcel have this country club day.
First of all, like Sutton's backyard is the most picturesque place I've ever seen.
Like, there is something so, when they're sitting down at this table drinking their iced tea that Kyle is like suspicious, is spiked with alcohol, everything just looks so lush.
The colors are so vibrant.
I just, I want to go there so bad.
But Sutton is like, well, Kyle, was it just memes that you were sending Pek?
And she's like, well, I've sent text messages and things, but she's adamant that they never talked about the relationship.
And then she's like, you know, she says that there's no incentive for her to fix her relationship with Doreet, if Doreet's going to act this way.
And she's, she's, Joreet's being so ridiculous and all of this.
And then Kyle goes to visit Bose after she has her fibroid surgery.
And, you know, she's reiterating that she's never going to show Doreet the phone.
And this is so stupid and yada, yada, yada.
and Bose is like, well, sorry, Mama, like, Derreet wants to see the phone.
Like, I don't know, I don't know what you want me to tell you, but, like, that's what it is.
Like, you've, you've not made her feel like she can trust you.
So, unfortunately, she's not going to trust you.
And Kyle is just, like, so indignant that this is crazy that Derreet would want this.
And, you know, she can fuck bright off and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
And then cut to Chuck Echee Cheese in the Valley.

Erica finally gets her pizza party.
skipping around, I know, but we'll get back to it. I'm threading the needle with Kyle.
They're at Chucky Cheese, which first of all, I want to go to Chucky Cheese with these ladies so
bad. I haven't been to a Chucky Cheese since I was probably 10 years old, but watching them
surprise Erica at her house. Erica's just in like a t-shirt and jeans and she just throws on a pair
of sneakers. I love, this like dressed down vibe. I feel like we never really get it from these
ladies, and I do really love it, but then they're sitting at the pizza party. Actually, I'm
I would like to go to Chuck E. Cheese, but then get pizza delivered from somewhere else.
I want to play, like, dance, dance revolution or whatever the, like, game vibe is at Chucky Cheese.
But the pizza's not looking good.
Maybe this is, like, a New York take.
I don't think it's a New York take that Chucky Cheese doesn't have good pizza.
Like, I don't know.
It's very, like, kid party pepperoni.
Like, I don't know.
It doesn't look great.
But you know what else doesn't look?
look great, this text that, um, whatever. First of all, Garcell is like, wait, so you and Maricio
still don't have any boundaries, right? You FaceTime whenever, you talk whenever, he calls you,
you call him, you text, you texts. Garcell is like, I don't think Kyle knows what she wants.
She needs to figure out who the fuck she wants to be. But this is when the texts come up.
Erica's like, I talked to Doree, she just wants to know about the text. And Kyle is like, it is so
that Doreet is trying to make it seem like I would text PK anything inappropriate.
I'm an adult and that's a fucking joke and like I you know I'm not going to show
to Doreet my phone because that's so stupid but you know what just this one time I will show you
the phone and I'm going to read the text and it is crazy watching this scene because
Kyle is acting like she has whatever the opposite of a smoking gun is like she has some evidence
that's going to make it so clear that that there's
No chance that anything weird would have ever gone on and that anybody's going to, who asked
questions is going to feel so dumb and that Doree is going to look so stupid that she was like
making it an issue and crying wolf and whatever. And then the text that she reads. So this is from
when Kyle says she sent P.K. this text when the separation was first announced. And this is the
text. I know you have a lot of friends and I am also one and here if you need me. I have never
repeated anything you have shared with me and never would, meaning you can trust me always.
We'll keep sending memes and won't forget laughing emojis. What are you doing?
I have never repeated anything you have shared with me and never would.
literally like that is the worst possible text you could send someone if the point of showing
it is to make me think that you've never spoken about anything sensitive or private.
Just by the way, by the way, I know we only send each other memes and jokes, but anything,
anything you've ever told me is in the vault and no one will ever know.
Like, oh, oh, wow, Kyle's not going to tell us what's on PKK's for you page because that's like sensitive private information.
Kyle, girl, you just told on yourself.
And obviously, like, PK and Kyle have known each other for a long time.
It's not the idea that they should never have had any sort of personal conversation.
Like, you know, PK and Doreet have been together for years.
It's not like there was no, you know, dynamic between PK. and Kyle before the separation.
But just like the fact that that's the text that Kyle sent when she first heard saying, hey, I'm a friend, I'm here, blah, blah, blah, blah.
But like, the sworn to secrecy thing is a weird vibe, a really weird vibe. And everybody else thinks so too.
Because, you know, Sutton and Garcell, who have been more team Kyle than Team Derreet so far this season, they're kind of like, wait, what?
I don't think that makes so much sense.
So you have talked about their relationship, obviously.
Erica thinks it's weird.
Garcel goes to visit Bose.
Bose thinks it's weird.
Of course.
Kyle is just like she's digging herself into some really strange holes this season.
And I don't know if she like, I don't know if she thought this was just going to be edited a different way or was going to come across.
a different way to viewers of the show, or if she was like sort of lost in the, had some
strategy that just hasn't panned out, but it does just like every episode, I'm kind of like,
I feel like you could very easily do a better job of handling this than you are right now.
It's not even like, oh my God, this is an impossible situation.
It's like, just like, be honest, tell the truth.
Act like Derreet is somebody you give a shit about.
because even earlier when Kyle goes to visit Bose after her surgery, and I think that Bose makes a good
observation that they view each other differently as friends. I mean, clearly, we've talked about
this. But Bose is like, look, I am the kind of person who has 174 besties. Everybody I love is my
best friend. I have one best friend who thinks that I'm the only best friend. And,
And anytime she sees me with somebody else, she takes it personally, she sends me nasty notes, whatever.
First of all, I'm like, why is this person who's your friend?
It's one thing to be like, hey, invite me next time.
Sending you nasty notes, grow up.
What is this third grade?
But beyond that, I get the point that Bose is trying to make, where for Doreet, she sees Kyle as somebody that she is super close with.
And Kyle sees Doreet as like one of her 174 besties.
I don't think Kyle has, you know, 174 acquaintances, let alone besties.
But you get the point.
But Kyle takes from this, she's like, right, right, right.
And Derreet thinks we're close, but Derreet doesn't share anything.
Derreet doesn't open up.
Which even before we see this flashback, I'm like, Kyle, what are you talking about?
Doreet is the queen of the blabbermouths.
The Doreet Kemsley Memorial Blabbermouth Edit on Bravo is designed to take somebody who's
telling you an hour's worth of information and, you know, cut it down.
And we get this flashback to 2023 when Doreet is literally telling Kass.
She's like, P.K has been spending a lot of time in London, and I don't know if I'm married is going to make it.
And blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
like fast forward, fast forward, fast forward.
Suffice to say,
Derreet has clearly shared stuff with Kyle in the past.
And Bose hears Kyle say this and she's like, bitch,
Derreet was telling me her entire life story the first time that I met her.
Literally at Sutton's party like three weeks ago,
Derreet is giving her the whole life story of how PK's an alcoholic and he's moving,
ah, we're not telling the kids yet.
It's really complicated.
Like, it just is, it's, you know,
not to belabor the point with Kyle here,
but I just like don't understand
the way she's handling any of this.
I don't know.
It's not seeming like a great season for her.
Obviously, she's important to the fabric of the show,
and she still is important to the storyline this season,
so I don't think it's the kind of season
that is going to be like her getting fired
because she's not contributing.
It just is like she's making a lot of puzzling decisions,
especially for somebody who's been on the show
as long as she has.
But you know who I think is moving through this season really well, actually, is Erica.
And I was thinking about this because Erica, I think, is having a great season.
Her energy has been really refreshing, seeing her, you know, her conversation with her therapist,
and the pizza party behavior, you know, sort of convo.
and her, you know, ongoing thing about redecorating her house.
The thing is, nine times out of ten, if somebody's main and, to be honest, only storyline
on a season of Housewives was that they want to get some new furniture, I would be
calling for their dismissal.
It is not something that sounds on paper like a good storyline.
And I don't know if it really is.
I mean, like, I want Erica to have, like, a sexy, beautiful, you know, space that she can, you know, let her let loose in and, like, catch a man or whatever she wants.
Like, I want her to have great furniture, too.
Furniture is expensive.
Look, I get it, Mama.
But, like, that's not, like, important to me on the show.
But she is doing such a good job of adding her commentary.
in the right place, moving between Doreet and Kyle in a way that I think we really need this season.
You know, she and Sutton, the fact that Sutton is the one sort of spearheading this pizza party
for her when she's like, Sutton coming full circle on Erica and being like, we were real hard on her
with all the stuff with Gerardi.
It's like Sutton, we is doing a lot of work there.
You were really hard on her.
Famously, nobody else was really willing to say much of anything.
Maybe Carcel.
Certainly not Kyle.
But like,
Erica, I think,
is really just like a breath of fresh air this season.
And she is,
I can't imagine this season without her.
And I think it's a good,
I think it's a good sort of template
for anyone who thinks that to have like a good season on Housewives,
you need to have like a massive scandal or, you know,
break up or divorce or whatever.
or like a headline kind of story happening,
I think Erica is doing an amazing job of sort of being like second tier in terms of story this season,
but still feeling like a really integral part of the group.
And I think that's something where obviously people who don't have as much, you know,
personality and the audience isn't as bought into them, like, as a, as a,
As a person, it's hard to sort of like really get your claws into a season where you don't have that much going on.
But I think Erica's doing a great job.
And actually, I think that Bose is doing a great job this season too.
Because she is, she's a newbie.
We didn't know her before this season.
She doesn't really have like a bestie that she's attached to the hip to, which I think is serving her well.
But she's kind of forming that relationship with Doreet.
And I find that this.
episode, Bo's getting that fibroid surgery, which first of all, it seems like she's doing well. I'm very
happy for her there. I don't know, you know, she's talking about wanting to have another child with her
boyfriend. I don't know the outcome of that. I wish her the best in all of her, you know, personal
endeavors. Obviously, she lost, you know, her house in Malibu last week. So that's very, you know,
tragic. And I'm sure she's working through that. But just like on the show, the fact that we had two
different scenes this week of somebody going to visit her house when she's recovering from
this procedure. And both of them were like important scenes that moved to the story forward.
I'm like, that's, that's impressive for a newbie on a cast like this. And I think that like
Garcell and Sutton are maybe like, maybe like slipping a little bit this season. It's fine.
Everybody's doing fine. I think the cast overall is pretty strong. But like, Bose is really
impressing me. Erica's really impressing me. Kyle and Doreet obviously sort of are like the main
characters, I guess you would say, for better or for worse. But Beverly Hills, pretty good this season.
I'm enjoying it. I'm curious, we're still only, you know, six or seven episodes, I think, into the season.
So I'm not sure kind of where we're going to go from here. But no complaints as of right now.
New York. I said I was going to talk about it. God, I always do that. I'm like, oh, oh, right, New York. I just don't know what Uber is doing. It's so much. It's so much all the time. Last week I talked about her, you know, talking shit about the beach that Raquel grew up going to and Puerto Rico, just like a weird look, a weird choice. Like this week, she's like freaking out over this FaceTime.
our speakerphone thing where Aaron and Brin are flirting with her husband.
And she's like, she thinks it's messed up that Abe didn't know he was on speakerphone.
And it's like, first of all, I think Abe did know that he was on speakerphone, but also who cares?
And then it's just this huge issue.
She's talking shit about Bryn saying, like, it just feels like, again, maybe this is, it's kind of like a Kyle-esque thing in a totally different way, though, where I'm like, do you?
not realize the way that this is going to come across on the show? Because I do think, you know,
Rony this season has not been the most exciting. They've needed a little bit of juice, a little gas in the
tank. And I could, I'm wondering if this is Uba's version of just like trying to put a little
pep in the step. But it's just not landing at all. And even if there's nothing else going on,
I don't really want to watch Uba, you know, running around the house, yelling at, at Aaron.
and Brin and Jessel and, you know, Raquel for having an issue with the beach.
Like, she's so adamant that she wasn't rude and she's telling Raquel that she goes to Puerto Rico more than she does.
And it's just like, why do you think that this is a good strategy?
But then it's like, maybe it's not a strategy.
Maybe that's just like how she is.
I don't know.
Next week is the season finale of Roney.
So we'll, you know, we'll be tying it up in a bow in the next few weeks, I guess.
And then who knows what is happening from here.
but who knows what's happening with anything.
Who knows if we'll have TikTok.
Who knows if we'll have shows to watch in the future?
There's so much uncertainty.
But what I am certain about is that I'm grateful for you for listening
and that if you rate review and follow the podcast,
you'll never miss an episode and we'll be back tomorrow with more.
And until next time, be cool.
Don't be all like uncool.

What's the difference between butter
and butter made from real California dairy?
It's the real California farm families behind it.
Real people, real care, real intention.
Why? Because real matters.
So whether you're pouring milk, melting of cheese,
or just grabbing one more spoonful of yogurt,
keep it real.
Look for the seal.
