Ha ha, laugh, funny.
Mention It All, a Bravo by Betches podcast.
We don't say that, but now we said it.
With me, Dylan Hafer.
We're going to check me, both.
Hey, everyone.
Welcome back to the Mention at All podcast.
We are back, and we have made it to the end of another week,
and we have another Salt Lake City reunion episode to talk about,
and it's another emotional doozy.
I have cried watching two Housewives reunion episodes this week,
and I don't know how I feel about that, but we are.
We're pushing through.
What's funny is I do these days watch a lot of my Bravo in the office.
I have a monitor on my desk.
So much of the time, I am second screening a Housewives episode or a Bravo show episode
on my monitor while I'm like doing something else on my computer.
I'm taking notes.
You know, I'm going back.
We're doing a deep reading into the text.
It's nice because sometimes I'll watch things on like a little sped up so I can
I can crush the tape a little quicker.
But the side effect of this, besides people thinking that I am not doing work because I'm
fully just watching Housewives at my desk, is that this week, two different times I have
just been crying at my desk.
And it's a little bit of like a weird, you know, sometimes I'm laughing.
Sometimes my jaw is dropped.
And people in the office, I think, I feel like people think I'm really emotionally
volatile because all of a sudden you just look over and if you don't know you know if you don't know
that i'm watching mary cosby talk about robert junior you're just like why why is this adult man
like shedding a tear at 3 p.m in the office under fluorescent lights it's it's a little bit strange
but then it makes it feel like a little treat when i when i watch housewives like in the comfort
of my own home you know under a blanket and i and i've really like set the scene and i and i've really like set
the scene. It's not lost at me. It's nice that I can watch Housewives on the clock, but I feel
like sometimes in the office I need like a little bit of a disclaimer that I'm like, I'm okay, I promise.
But before we get into the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City reunion, we have some, I was going to say
exciting news to talk about, but depending on where you fall on the spectrum, exciting might not be
the exact right word, but we have news. And that news is about the Real Housewives of Orange County
season 19, which is coming up, and I'm assuming they're getting ready to start filming because
we got the announcement yesterday that who is returning to the fray this season, but Gretchen
Rossi. Gretchen, one of the, I would say, like, archetypal sort of golden age, Orange
County Housewives, that kind of like early 2010's time frame, she was,
really in the thick of it when it comes to like building this franchise into what we know and love
and remember and look back on sometimes fondly, sometimes less so. But Gretchen was on this show
in case you, you know, didn't watch way back when or you've, you know, forgotten. Gretchen was on
the show from season four to season eight. So she had five seasons as a housewife. And then until now,
the last time that she even made an appearance, which I didn't realize it had been this long,
the last time she appeared on the show as a guest was season 12.
So it has been a long time in the Housewives Wilderness for Gretchen Rossi.
And I got to say, I was not fully shocked to get the announcement.
She's returning as a friend of, by the way.
So they really said copy paste with the Alexis Bellino playbook from last.
season. And I do kind of have to wonder, after seeing how, you know, spectacularly, Alexis didn't
work out last season if they were kind of like, okay, who else is like in the barrel that we can
scrape out and bring back and give another, you know, half-season arc or whatever. And Gretchen,
I feel like it's an interesting time to bring her back. Because, like I said, she hasn't appeared on
the show in several years. It's been like a decade since she was last an actual housewife.
And she is not somebody who has stayed super active and relevant in the housewife's sphere
for a lot of that time. She and Slade are still together. I believe they still have never
gotten married, which at this point, like, do you? If you, you know, they had that big like rooftop
proposal when she was still on OC.
Clearly things are working for them just fine.
They kind of give Heidi and Spencer energy
where when they were on the show,
the vibe was very thirsty.
People had a lot of negative things to say
about their relationship.
People have long found Slade
to be a bit distasteful.
And that kind of is the,
it's the Spencer and Heidi Playbook a little bit,
but now that they have been off of TV
for the most part for like a decade,
they're still going strong.
They had a baby together a few years ago.
You know, I think Gretchen had wanted a child for a really long time.
So I was really happy to see that kind of, you know, come to fruition for them.
But yeah, it is, it's strange to think that we are going to have Slade Smiley back on Real House Lois of Orange County in 2025.
I mean, he goes back to the OG, OG days when he was dating Joe.
Gretchen is somebody where, like, I think that she has some moments on O.C. that are really great, iconic, entertaining moments.
Some of her, like, pageant girl reunion looks really live rent-free in my head.
Her whole storyline with her fiancé when she first came on the show, I think Jeff, who has passed away, like, that was a lot.
Her feud with Tamara, I feel like is pretty legendary.
But I don't know if anybody has really been.
been clamoring for Gretchen to come back.
Now, the one thing that I think I posted about this, I saw a couple people kind of resurfaced
this yesterday when this announcement was made, is that Gretchen, notably, was on the season
of Real Housewives' Ultimate Girls' trip that we never got to see.
The Morocco season that was shelved because of the Brandy and Caroline mess that happened,
that was going to be Gretchen's sort of return to the Housewives'
Frey. She and Vicky Gunvelson were representing O.C. on that show. Of course, it was an interesting
mix of people. Eva Marcell was supposed to be on that show. Camille Grammer was supposed to be on that show.
Obviously, Brandy and Caroline. If Adra, I think, was there. We never got to see that. And so it seems
like there's a possibility that if that show had aired, it could have opened up a path for Gretchen to
return to OC anyway. So maybe, I mean, we haven't gotten to see what happened on that season,
but if Gretchen had a strong showing in Morocco, that could have influenced their decision to bring
her back, or it could be happening completely separate from that. I'm curious to see our friend
Gibson Johns tweeted, and this hadn't really occurred to me, that if Gretchen on the show on OC talks
about that girls' trip experience.
Might they tease us
a little bit of footage
in a flashback?
That could be our only way
to get any kind of glimpse
of anything that happened
on that Morocco girls' trip.
So good, so good.

I compared this to last season when they brought back Alexis because Alexis and Gretchen had very
similar kind of housewives careers. You know, they were both on OC for a handful of seasons in that
sort of middle era. Both had kind of been out of the housewives game for a long time. But the big
difference, at least on paper, is that when Alexis was brought back last season, the hook to get
her back on the show was extremely obvious. Because at that point, she had already started dating
John Jansen. We knew that, you know, there was going to be this really, you know, enticing dynamic
of how is Shannon going to handle this? What is the sort of makeup of the group going to be? Are people going
to rally around Shannon? Are people going to welcome Alexis? There was an obvious
kind of question for Alexis to answer. She didn't answer it well. We've been through that. We don't
need to talk about it anymore. But with Gretchen, there really is a big question to me of like,
what is Gretchen Rossi bringing to this show now? Granted, she's a friend of, so it could be
just kind of like a fun seventh person to have at a dinner. But I also am wondering, you know,
after this announcement, Tamara posted on Instagram, a post that's just a photo of herself looking sleigh,
and the geo tag on the photo is Bass Lake, California. If you know, you know.
The song on the post is Demi Lovato, sorry, not sorry. And the caption, I guess it's time to dust off those friendship bracelets.
My Besties Back, Winky Face, hashtag RHOC, hashtag 15 seasons, hashtag longest running.
housewife. So she
Tamara already, she's
raring to go. And you know that this
announcement, they've done this a few times
now, it probably means they're about to start filming
because, you know, they don't want to get
scooped by Des Moines or whoever
else that people are seeing
Gretchen out with the group
when they're filming. So
I'm really excited for OC because last season
was so strong. And Alexis
kind of was the most
frustrating element. And so I'm guessing
that they will mostly be doing a
copy paste of last season's cast and sort of just swapping out Gretchen for Alexis.
And we'll see how it goes.
I'm excited.
I'm really hoping that they turn around this season pretty quickly and that they come back
in the summer again.
But we will see.
We shall see having Gretchen and Tamara and Heather DeBrow on this show together again is
really, it's something that I'm still wrapping my mind around.
but I am cautiously optimistic.
We'll see.
If it's one season and then we never see her again,

But shall we talk about H-O-S-L-C?
First of all, so this is like the husband portion of the reunion.
I'm glad that they're still bringing the husbands.
I think this is one of the few shows where the husbands feel like an important piece of the puzzle and also like they are willing to participate.
I mean, if you think about like the New York reunion that's happening right now, we're not getting any husbands there.
Not that I would want them.
Honestly, there's only half the group has husbands, but with Salt Lake City, like, having Todd there feels important.
Having Seth Marks there feels important.
I was sort of expecting more out of Justin and John, given the fact that they almost came to blows this season.
I didn't feel like we really got a lot of material there.
I'm curious maybe if they filmed more and it just wasn't that interesting and got cut.
or honestly the thing about the guys is that they tend to be a little bit better at the like oh man yeah
I'm sorry you know I love you let's just let's keep it push it and you can tell that like Justin Rose is kind of just like yeah I don't know what happened there
sorry man let's get a drink let's get a beer um so like the men aren't really like giving in the same way that the women are in the sense that like we spend a good chunk of this episode
yelling back and forth at each other about something that may or may not have happened
at last season's Opry Ski Party and last season's Greek Easter,
which I didn't think we would ever hear about again.
You know, Monica's name is getting invoked, which of course Monica's having a field day with on Instagram.
You know, she's like, she's like, bitch, they're talking about me like I'm still on the show.
I barely even talk about the show.
Maybe I should talk about the show.
So I can see, so I can show everyone what these bitches really are up to.
And it's like, Monica, my dear, it's over.
It's over.
You can go to bed.
You can go back to making your baby blankets that you're selling on Etsy or whatever the business venture is these days.
You can exhale now.
You don't have to care.
I mean, we know Monica is incapable of not caring.
She will watch this show when the rest of us are long gone.
But back to the husbands.
I really hate to be mean.
Justin Rose's veneers are a little bit spooky-uky.
And he's not the only one.
There are a lot of us.
I'm using us to be nice.
I don't have veneers.
I can't afford veneers, but I wouldn't want them
because they look weird.
Veneers are one of those things where, like,
I, I, there are so many tweaks you can make.
And as we know from the New York reunion this week,
you know, Jessel, spankle of Botox,
a little bit of filler, veneers.
She's trying to be open.
I would like for Andy to ask Justin Rose about his veneers.
If we can talk to the women about what all have you had done,
those chompers, my God.
You know, Heather has them.
Whitney probably has that.
I don't know.
It just feels like the veneers,
We got to be real with ourselves.
We have to...
Lisa Vanderpump's veneers.
It's tough.
It's a little bit of an epidemic.
But Justin...
Something about Justin with the veneers.
It just is like...
I've met Justin.
Seems like a nice guy.
I wish he wouldn't have done the teeth.
Don't do the teeth.
Get the whitening.
Get the bleaching, whatever.
Don't do the teeth.
Just tough.
But no, the husband's, really like the most notable husband stuff, I thought, well, first of all, it was funny for Seth, you know, when he's being asked about his choice to refer to Whitney as a biotch.
And he's like, well, you know, that's just like a, that's just like a, you know, a way, you know, you talk to somebody.
It's like, hey, man, hey dude, hey biotch.
Like, Seth.
Seth.
that's not how you speak to people.
And it's funny.
Also, like, rolling back the footage,
it's just so funny to be, like, watching him be so heated.
He's like, see what that is?
Proof, Biocch!
Like, Seth, oh, my God, you're so embarrassing.
Like, when was the last time...
When was the last time you called someone a biotch?
And, like, with your whole chest, like,
not be like, yo, like, were getting drinks,
Bioc?
Like, oh, she's such a biotch.
It really is giving, like, 2006.
You're on MySpace.
You're like, oh, my God, did you see I'm not in her, you know, top eight or whatever?
Like, ugh, biotch.
Seth Marks, I feel like he would be in my MySpace top eight.
A handsome man.
I'm on the record.
No, but the actual most interesting thing out of the husband's segment is definitely Todd
and his dynamic with Bronwyn.
and sort of, it feels like there is a lot of management of egos and messaging and whatever
happening between Bronwyn and Todd.
And there are clearly some things, I mean, Todd says outright, he's like, literally
anything that Bronwyn has shared about our relationship this season is more than I would
have liked her to share.
Like, his baseline of what he wants to be on the show is zero, which obviously is not
realistic. And I don't know exactly what him and what his and Bronwyn's conversations about doing
the show looked like. But it seems like she shared a little bit more than she kind of maybe
got clearance to share. And the moment that is the most kind of, I don't know, the most impactful
with that to me is that when Andy asks about Bronwyn's reveal that the texts between him and
another woman, this emotional affair
that we heard about, that those texts
were discovered by Bronwyn's daughter,
Gwen. And
Bronwyn has said that
Todd hasn't watched the episodes,
and so they've talked about it,
and he's aware that this was on the show, but
like, they haven't watched it all. And you
can tell that this specific detail
about Gwen finding those texts
was not something that
Todd was aware Bronwyn had shared
on the show. And
the way that his
face just falls
and his
like demeanor in that moment
it was really
I was kind of
taken aback by that a little bit
because it just you could tell that that really
was like
fuck like this is
this is like deep shit
and you know Lisa Barlow's on the other
catch being of yeah it was embarrassing
and he doesn't
I mean he doesn't really have anything to say and I think
I mean, to give him sort of a little bit of credit in that moment, like, what would you say?
Like, I think the appropriate response is kind of like, yeah, fuck.
Like, yeah.
Sometimes you just kind of have to, like, stand there and be like, yeah.
Tough look.
Tough look.
And Broadwin's kind of, like, minimizing of, like, oh, like, emotional affair is, like, a big word.
and I don't know.
Like, was it great the way he talked?
But also, you know, and like, I do like that the other women are kind of, like, not having that a little bit.
They're like, you said infidelity.
You said emotional affair.
Like, nobody's putting these words in your mouth.
Like, that's how you told us the story.
And so it does feel a little bit like now maybe with her husband sitting behind her,
Bronwyn is having like a little bit of
buyer's remorse about some of the stuff she said on the show
and it's like well it wasn't that bad and it's like girl
this was this was something that happened on the show
roll footage we like I think that
I think I talked about this before
Bronwyn definitely has some lessons to learn from this season
and I think that I think that the amount she shared was part of what made her
so strong as a housewife this season but I do think that
moving forward if she stays on the show,
she's going to have to understand
that whatever level of information
she decides to share, she kind of
has to just like own that
a little bit more. And that
when Todd is going to ask her questions
or be annoyed about something that she said,
you got to kind of stand by that
because you're on this show for a reason
and, you know, if you don't want something out there,
then you shouldn't bring it up in the first place,
but you can't put it on the show.
show and then sort of try to backtrack when we've we've already seen it the women have already
seen it and like also it was it was like a bigger issue you know she got mad at meredith and
Lisa and was talking about how they've had infidelity in their marriages and that's why they
weren't supportive of her and so then meredith's kind of like wait what the fuck if you're if you're
saying that this wasn't even a real issue for you then why were you throwing my marriage under the
bus for it meredith is um pretty activated on this
episode of the reunion, there's this like ongoing, lingering thing about the rumors about
Angie's husband being gay and the question of last season, Angie thought that Meredith
started the rumor and does Angie still think that? And if Angie doesn't think that, then why is she
still kind of eluding that maybe she thinks that? And this is when we go to the Opry Ski
party and the Greek Easter and what Monica had said.
And what's crazy is that Angie and Meredith are kind of both, right?
Because Andy chimes in.
So basically what Angie is saying is that at the Opry Ski party, Monica told me that
Meredith was the one who was saying this.
And then later at Greek Easter, Monica said that it wasn't Meredith who was saying it.
So Angie's kind of selecting the piece of evidence that makes Meredith look worse.
and Meredith is selecting the piece of evidence that makes her look better, and both things are true.
Obviously, I think to Meredith, the piece of evidence that helps her case is the Trump card,
and she's saying that invalidates the other piece of evidence, so why are we even talking about it?
I obviously didn't do it, whereas Angie has chosen to still have a few more questions.
Look, this to me is something where it's like, when housewives are unable to kind of just,
like move the ball forward and actually leave things in the past, it rarely, it rarely leads to
anything good from a story perspective. Because the thing that I think has made Salt Lake City so
successful over the last several years, aside from having, you know, like big personalities and,
you know, funny moments, whatever, is like these women will, like, move on. They'll have the biggest
fight. And then five episodes later, they're best friends. And the friendship dynamics have shifted
so vastly and so many times that you are kind of always guessing in a really exciting way.
And the thing with Angie and Meredith is that it's like, if you guys are going to keep having
an issue with each other, it needs to be about something new.
Like, why can we not spend more time?
Like, Meredith now, why isn't she just, like, mad that Angie made a scene at her bat mitzvah?
I don't think we've talked about high body count hair one single time this reunion.
I would love to see Meredith come in and be like, I am so hurt, Angie, that you would come to my bat mitzwa.
And you would use that as an opportunity to slut shame Britney, to make me look bad.
You gave, you gave, I gave back the gift because you blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Maybe that's coming in part three.
If it is, sorry, I'm jumping the gun.
But, like, I don't really want to talk about what Monica said at last year's
Opry Ski Party.
When we're doing a flashback and the little Chiron label says two years ago, we got to keep
it pushing.
We got to move on.
We got to find something else to argue about.
And there's so much material to work from.
But Meredith, you know, she does her whole thing of like, I will.
I'm leaving.
If you can't show the, I was told that it would be shown, and if you can't show, I will.
I'm going to leave.
Thankfully, she doesn't leave.
You know, I think she and Angie, are they calling a truce?
I don't know.
Mary wants them to get along because she likes both of them.
The thing is, it's like, I don't mind Meredith and Angie as kind of like forever feuding.
I just, I need the, I need the reason to be freshened up every few months.
you know, we got to have this season's feud. We can't be doing last season's feud.
And I mean, not to just side with Monica Garcia here, but like, stop talking about Monica.
That was last season's drama. You excised her from the group. And I really think that we,
we don't need to be going back there. It's Greek Easter, really. We wore out Greek Easter last year.
Meredith does clarify that she and Seth are monogamous. Thanks for that.
I love her.
I love Seth's explanation that I don't have any qualms with their like long distance, commuter marriage, whatever.
Honestly, it sounds nice.
I was listening to Cheryl Lee Ralph recently talked about how her husband, he's a state senator in Pennsylvania.
And he like fully lives in Philadelphia and she, I think probably lives in Los Angeles.
And that they like visit each other and, you know.
And the way that Cheryl talks about it is like so, so funny because she's like, he has his own real career.
I have my own real career.
He has his house.
I have my house.
I visit him.
Love to visit him.
And then I leave and I go back to my house.
And like, that's, that's Meredith and Seth.
I love that for them.
And Seth says that he does an annual review.
on their marriage, and as long as they're above average, 51% of the time,
then you can check the box, you're good for another year.
Wow, so romantic.
Ladies, we can all hope for a love like that.
As long as you're above average, 51% of the year,
you might as well be batten a thousand.
And look, if it works for them, I'm so glad.
The last real chunk of the reunion is, of course, Mary talking about this stuff with her son
this season. And it's
really, I think, like
a lovely,
a lovely segment of a chaotic reunion.
And again, the way
that everybody on this cast really
is like giving so much
space for this and treating it with
such care. And obviously people have had
various and sundry issues with
Mary. But like, I do love
the way that this group can sort of like
put all that aside to focus
on something real.
I think that Andy handled this stuff well.
You can tell that he is really emotionally impacted by it.
I think that Mary did a good job sort of answering the questions, giving the updates, talking about, I thought it was interesting.
Sort of pulling back the curtain a little bit on that scene with her and Robert on the season where she said,
we talked about before we filmed it that we were going to have this conversation.
And I asked him to be open with me and to tell me whatever.
So, like, sort of acknowledging that, like, it's not like she just, like, ambushed him in the room with cameras, that they agreed that they were going to do this, but that she didn't know what he was going to share with her, at least not the details, not the level before it happened.
And, you know, going back to those, that comment about him feeling like he was a stain and the, you know, the suicidal ideation and some of the specifics with the drugs, all of that, like, it just is so, it's so raw.
And even now a couple months since we first saw it, and, you know, Andy's getting emotional talking about it.
Everybody on those couches is really, you know, deeply impacted by that.
And I think it's such a strong point of this season.
And what Whitney said about how watching it with her kids and what she's gone through with her dad and that she hasn't seen him since season one of this show and that she's struggled to explain to her kids why their grandfather is not in their lives.
and that that scene with Mary and Robert
sort of gave her this avenue to
to show them kind of why
and what that looks like and how to talk about that.
That is like so...
It's such an amazing thing because Mary talks about
that her impetus to want to talk about it on the show
and that she and Robert Jr.
felt the same about this,
that they were like,
if we can have this conversation and be open about it
and share and we can help anybody,
We can give anybody a way into this conversation or feeling like they're not alone or anything,
then that's reason enough to do it.
And the fact that Whitney's sitting right there on that couch is saying,
you didn't just give somebody in the world a way to talk about this.
We've had our own issues, but like you helped me in that moment.
I thought that was really lovely.
And, you know, Heather talks about watching it with her daughters and feeling like
that kind of unlocked a conversation.
that they might not have been able to have before.
The text that we see that Meredith sent to Mary when she was with her nephew who struggled
with the same types of issues and sort of opening up there, this really was just like a vessel
for the whole cast to kind of align on something in a way that we don't frankly get to see
them be on the same page very often.
That was a nice moment.
You know, I don't know what, I don't know what is in Part 3 at this reunion.
and presumably Brittany arrives at some point.
But yeah, it was nice.
It was nice.
And I liked seeing Meredith and Mary have a little hug.
It was interesting, like Andy asking why Mary was kind of lighter and more open this season.
And she talks about having a real friend like Angie, and obviously I think that's like a little bit, you know, hard for Meredith to hear.
But I also kind of feel like the elephant in the room a little bit.
bit is like maybe Mary was lighter and more open this season because her husband wasn't there.
She seems to have a really complicated relationship with her husband and he doesn't like the show
and he wasn't around this season and maybe that made it easier slash more enjoyable
slash more feasible for Mary to show up and participate and be a little happier and a little freer.
And, you know, I don't expect her to say that and, like, drag Robert Sr. through the mud.
But, like, not having that man in the house definitely seems to improve the mood a little bit.
And that's with all the issues with her son.
It was interesting.
Andy asked Mary about how Robert Sr. felt about all of this play.
out on the show and Mary said that he commended her for it and said he loved her, which is not
something that he says very often. So I'm glad that he purportedly was supportive from afar.
I don't know everything that happens in that family off camera. But yeah, I mean, like not having
him around seems like a good thing for Mary. To make of that what you will. We've got one more
part next week. I'm excited to wrap up
this season. Well, I'm sad to wrap up
this season, but I'm excited to see how it happens.
So we'll be back next week. Obviously,
lots more to talk about. But in the meantime,
thank you so much for listening.
Another week in the books. Make sure you rate
review, follow the show wherever you listen.
