Mention It All - RHOC Turns 20 & Next Gen NYC Turns Chaotic

Episode Date: July 10, 2026

This week, Dylan kicks things off with news about which Bravolebs are surprise Emmy nominees this year. He also takes a look at the upcoming season of Married At First Sight, which could be summer’s... next dating show fixation once Love Island wraps up. From there, he digs into the season premiere of RHOC, marking 20 years of California chaos. Like most of those years, Tamra starts the season in the hot seat, and Vicki Gunvalson’s return is slightly delayed by… immigration paperwork? After breaking down the OC dynamics, Dylan turns his attention to Next Gen NYC, where a chaotic girls/guys night situation feels like a step up for the sophomore series. And over in Connecticut, In The City’s Friendsgiving trip gets off to a rocky start, with Lindsay activated, Kyle and Amanda fighting (again), and some new bone carriers doing the lord’s work. Hey everyone, welcome back to the Mentioned at All podcast and another hot and steamy week where there is a lot going on. We have the OC season 20 premiere to talk about today. I am so thrilled to have these crazy ladies back. And let me tell you, when I realized on Sunday night that Rhode Island was over, Atlanta was taking a week off, I was a little bit like, wait, what am I doing with my week? What am I talking about on this podcast?
Starting point is 00:01:03 And then I remembered our oranges are back. And thank God, not a moment too soon. We're going to talk about that. We're going to talk about in the city. We're going to talk about next gen, NYC. But first, I want to shout out a couple of our new Emmy nominees. The primetime Emmy nominations were announced this week. And a couple of important ones for our purposes.
Starting point is 00:01:23 For the first time, Summerhouse has been nominated for an Emmy in the coveted, unstructured reality program category. And this is a big deal because in this category, we don't often get our favorite Bravo shows represented. The real maybe only example, below deck's been there a little bit before. But Vanderpump Rules was able to get nominated in the two seasons post-Skandival,
Starting point is 00:01:54 and that was like a big cultural moment. There was, you know, think pieces and dissertation. being written about Vanderpump Rules. And finally, this season, Summerhouse kind of had its, you know, Scandival moment, whether you think they're similar or not. And they were rewarded with an Emmy nomination. Now, I mean, real Housewives, they're not getting nominated in this category.
Starting point is 00:02:17 Southern Charm, they're not getting nominated. It's a big deal. And I am so curious now to see just what they do with this next season to try and kind of keep the, keep the Hot Street going. We know they were filming in the Hamptons last weekend. There have been lots of reports about who's going to be in the cast, who's not going to be in the cast. I think it's going to take a little while for us to have a fully clear picture. But, man, Hot Street for Summer House. And then also, Ariana Maddox got her first Emmy nomination for hosting Love Island. I am a little surprised by this. Not, look, I think Ariana does a great job at being the host of Love
Starting point is 00:02:59 Island. But I don't think Love Island is a show that really gives you that much opportunity to have fun with the job of hosting. I mean, Ariana shows up and looks incredible. No one can deny. She does a great job of delivering the, delivering the sentence prompts that they tell her to say. But, I mean, I've talked about on our Island Time show that you should be listening to every Thursday. it's a little bit like Dora the Explorer giving out, you know, instructions where it's like, read the text. Next text. Who's going home now? You're dumped from the island.
Starting point is 00:03:36 And, you know, she does it really well. And now she's Emmy nominated for it. So congratulations. That is still a really tough category because she's up against, I think now two time in a row winner, Alan coming for traders. So I don't know if Ariana will be taking home the hardware. But that is really exciting. And I think the last couple of years, they've given out that hostess.
Starting point is 00:03:55 award like on the main Emmy telecast whereas there's like 50 other categories that they give out in like a separate thing. So Ariana, big deal. Congratulations. Love Island is barreling toward the end of the season. I have had so much fun with Chris Burns talking about it on our island time spinoff every Thursday, which is on the same feed that you're listening to or watching right now, also on YouTube. But the finale is coming up on Sunday and you know what else is coming on Sunday that I am finding myself like a little bit intrigued by a little bit, a little bit interested in. It's, it's moving me in a way that it hasn't before. Married at First Sight is coming back on Peacock on Sunday night. And I think it is so smart of them. You know,
Starting point is 00:04:38 the last couple seasons of Married at First Sight have been on Peacock. They, you know, acquired the rights or whatever. And for them to have it premiering the night that Love Island ends, I think is so smart because Love Island, whether you're watching it or not, it is sort of like a group psychosis event that it feels like we all go through together for five or six weeks every summer. And even though this season has now gotten a little bit boring toward the end, and I'm kind of ready for it to be over, I also am going to be, after this Sunday, wondering what to do with myself at 9 p.m. 5 to 6 nights a week. And maybe what to do with myself is watching this season of Married at first sight. It's a completely new kind of set up this season. I think there's
Starting point is 00:05:30 more couples than they've had in the past. Watching the trailer for the season, it looks, you know, obviously like there's going to be a lot of drama. There's seven different couples. There's new, you know, experts and people helping them along the way to find their love or maybe not. You never know. And the season takes place in Seattle, which is a place I've never been before, but I'm kind of intrigued by. And it looks like in the trailer even, it's like there's like luscious trees and waterscapes happening. It kind of, it's giving like twilight a little bit. Can you tell I've never been to the Pacific Northwest? I'm just like, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:06:03 Seattle, it's giving forest. But Married at Versaite, it's one of those shows where I feel like it flies under the radar compared to other dating shows. but it's been around for such a long time and people really love it. And I do feel like this season could be like a little bit of a moment. Based on the trailer, it looks like it's going to be pretty good. And so I'm interested to kind of check that out. And maybe that's the next dating show that's going to be like happening over the summer. I mean, we got to do something.
Starting point is 00:06:36 I have six free hours every week. But I think they're dropping the episodes in batches, like weekly batches starting on Sunday. so I think it's airing through like toward the end of August. So excited to check that out. Let me know what you think. Maybe we'll talk about it. But let's get into the real, the real meat that we have going on today. And that is through Real Housewives of Orange County, the 20th season.
Starting point is 00:07:03 We have made it. We have been through so many ups and downs with this franchise. And I, I got to say, kicking things off for this 20th season. with Vicky sitting on the beach in Puerto Bajarta and Shannon, you know, strolling on up and finding her in her beach chair, I was really locked in from the first second. I mean, this is the first time Vicky has been a full-time presence on the show in like seven years, I think. It's been a long time. Obviously, we've seen her since then. She's been a friend of on the show. She's made guest appearances. We've seen her on Ultimate Girls' trip. It's not like Vicky has been, you know,
Starting point is 00:07:49 completely gone from our, you know, collective conscience for seven or eight years. But I was kind of realizing over the course of the episode, it has been a long time since we have spent, like, a real amount of time with Vicky. And I don't know how I feel about it. It's a little bit strange. She has been in a relationship with this guy, Mike, for four years. In my mind, I'm still thinking about that creepy guy, Steve Lodge, that she was engaged to and feeling like they just broke up. And so, okay, now she's been with this guy, Mike, for four years. They're living mostly in Coda de Kaza, but he has another place in California, and she has her place in Puerto Vallarta. So they're splitting their time, and she's still working a ton.
Starting point is 00:08:38 and her son, Mike, is 40. That really makes me feel ancient. I mean, it is wild how long 20 years is. Like, what do you mean, Mike is 40? And he's still single. And, you know, can I just say good politics? Which I don't know if I'm going to say so freaky. Now, so in this first episode, Vicki and Shannon are in Mexico together, and it is, it's fun to see them back there.
Starting point is 00:09:06 But we don't find out until like halfway through the episode that Vicky is actually currently sort of stuck in Puerto Vajarta because she's waiting to get her like permanent Mexico residency card or visa or whatever and that she had a temporary one and it ran out. So now if she leaves the country, she like might not be able to come back. And so over the course of the episode, Vicky and Shannon are in Mexico and then it seems like Shannon leaves and Vicky's brother is there and, you know, they're at Andalais and she's, you know, saying she put on the map, classic Vicky. And then Heather DeBro is planning this Valentine's Day party and Vicki's like, oh, well, I don't know if I'll be able to come because I might
Starting point is 00:09:48 still be stuck in Mexico. I'm like, wait, that's what we're dealing with here. And then by the end of the episode, she does show up at the Valentine's Day party and we find out that she was able to get a one-time exit and entry permission so she can leave and go back, but she still doesn't know when she's going to get this permanent residency thing. And while this is, I guess, a fascinating point on which to start the season with Vicky, I also think it's a great learning experience that many people in the world are struggling with immigration systems that are, you are maybe not designed in the most humane way. And I hope that Vicky, through her own trials and tribulations with an immigration process, maybe has learned something. Maybe has opened up her heart
Starting point is 00:10:49 and her mind to how many people in the world are affected by systems such as this. And maybe now when she is, you know, coming and going freely from her beloved, you know, vacation destination turned second home of Puerto Vallarta, maybe she can think, wow, wouldn't it be great if all the people that are, you know, struggling with their own immigration process were able to have such free, free movement as I am able to at this moment? I am, of course, I'm jabbing at Vicky here a little bit because I imagine that she has certain views that I would not quite agree with in this sense. But, you know, it's great to have her back. And we'll get into that Valentine's Day party a little bit because it is already getting messy. Of course, kind of the biggest, like, turning, you know,
Starting point is 00:11:41 pivot point around all the drama in the premiere is who can stand Tamara this season? Tamara, every year, man, it's always something. She's always going through it with somebody or another. She's feeling lighter. She's feeling heavier. She's in a good place. She's not. We're always on the roller coaster with Tamara.
Starting point is 00:12:03 And so in this first episode, we have Shannon really in the worst place with Tamara. She says that Dos Amigos is way better than Trace. And then she's also saying when she's in Mexico with Vicky that she really wants to be done arguing with Tamara and that Tamara just won't let it be. And what more can she do to get Tamara Grudge? I liked that. Tamara Grudge was good. To just let it go. And Vicki, Vicki says that she's an empath. And I would say that Vicky claiming to be an empath is like kind of on a level with Kristen Doty, claiming to be an empath in the sense of like, do words have meaning? I don't know. I couldn't tell you. But if Vicky wants to be self-identifying as an empath, more power to her.
Starting point is 00:12:59 But then back in sunny Orange County, California, we see Gina, Heather Debrough, and Tamara getting together to do painting scarves, something that Heather saw on TikTok. The actual activity looks like it takes about three minutes and then they just sit down and argue, which is about what I prefer on housewives. But Gina is in her engagement era and also, I guess, in her shoulder pad era. She walks in looking like Inspector Gadget. She looks like a detective from a 1940s noir movie. Like Humphrey Bogart is walking in in the like long ass coat that Gina's wearing.
Starting point is 00:13:39 Not my favorite. But Gina, once they sit down after their beautiful scarf painting, Gina is like immediately complaining to Tamara about something that she says. said after last year, last season, that no one in the group was there for her. And Gina feels hurt by Tamara saying that. And Heather, of course, feels, you know, annoyed to hear Tamara saying that because she feels like she was there for her. And, you know, there's, did Heather invite people to dinner? Heather says that she did. And Tamara's like, fine. Okay, listen, if you don't want to be in the bucket that I put everybody in, fine. You're not in the bucket. End of
Starting point is 00:14:21 sentence, you don't have to be in the bucket. It's okay. And I mean, it just feels like we've kind of had this same back and forth since the beginning of time. Since Tamara came back on the show, it's like, I don't know exactly what these women want from Tamara because it does feel like, I fully believe that Tamara says things that are kind of shitty, makes comments that then come back to bite her. I think she seems like a challenging person to be friends with. But at the same time, it's like the Tammy Sue experience is what it is. This woman has been terrorizing her supposed friends on television for 18 years, something
Starting point is 00:15:14 like that. I just, I kind of feel like I'm not necessarily Team Tamara and everything she does, but there's a point where I'm like, I actually don't need to hear Gina and Emily and Jen Padranti sort of pick apart every interaction with Tamara, everything that Tamara says online for the however many of season in a row. And even, you know, later in the episode, when we get to, you know, Jen and Emily go to dinner and they're talking about Tamara. and, you know, after the reunion last year, you know, Heather was talking shit about Tamara and then switched up. So it's like, we think Heather's fake. We think Tamara's a bitch.
Starting point is 00:15:59 That's kind of been the story since, again, the beginning of time. But Jen says that she and Tamara are in a better place, which again, I'm kind of like, I'll believe it when I see it because I just, at the end of the day, I can't picture Jen and Tamara having like an, an. uncomplicated friendship because, I mean, Tamara has said some crazy shit about Jen on this show. Jen is someone who I've always enjoyed, but I also am like, damn, you are, you're having to forgive these women for a lot of stuff that they have said about you in order to have friends on the show. Because even with Emily, she's like, Emily and I, I never would have predicted that we would have this great friendship, but here we are. And we flashed back to Emily last season at a dinner
Starting point is 00:16:53 basically being like, bitch, sell your Rolex, pay your bills. And Jen is just like, you know, Emily and I are a lot of like. Like, are you? Since when? I guess they're they're alike in that they're very into their fitness journeys. Emily, this season is again on a weight loss health, wellness, whatever journey for, how many journeys has Emily been on? She's, um, she is like the Whitney Rose of Orange County. If Whitney Rose's journeys healing are more about healing.
Starting point is 00:17:33 Um, and you know, kind of the like spiritual healing. Whereas Emily Simpson is always on some kind of body journey, skinny journey. getting strong journey. She looks great. I mean, more power to her. But it feels like every season we're hearing about it. And she sits down to dinner with Jen. Jen orders a margarita and Emily orders a bowl of chicken.
Starting point is 00:18:03 I'm sorry. She's like, and I also need a margarita. Bitch, lead with that. If I sit down to dinner with you and you're like, can I start with whatever the healthiest thing on the menu is? I would also have a drink. It's like, are you trying to make me feel like shit? What, what's going on here?
Starting point is 00:18:20 I just, I, I wish that Emily could go through her journeys in a little bit of a less, like, this season, I'm skinny. Like, it just feels like there's always like a headline going on. And it's like, okay, I get it. I get it. But, you know, she looks great. She wants to be healthy. She wants to be strong for her kids.
Starting point is 00:18:39 Good for her. It sounds like, you know, Luke is doing better. Annabelle's driving now. I again, I'm like, these kids are so old. Heather Dubrow only has one kid in the house. Shannon's got zero. She's only got the two dogs. And it does.
Starting point is 00:18:59 It makes me even more sad to know that now Archie is no longer with us. Because on, on this premiere, she's like, yeah, you know, one of my girls is living in Paris and she's not coming back. And then the other two aren't close either. and so it's just me in the house with the dogs. And normally I go to dinner alone and I bring the dogs and Archie's not there anymore. She still has the other one.
Starting point is 00:19:26 So that's good. But I just am like, I want Shannon to have a win. That's all I want. Okay, we have some more like personal updates to get into. It's the beginning of the season. I'll allow it. Gina is engaged to Travis, but she got a prototype ring
Starting point is 00:19:41 because she wasn't sure if she was going to like the ring. So the diamond that she's showing everyone is like literally a hunk of plastic, I guess. Heather's like, I think it's a lab grown. It looks a little rainbowish. It's like, baby, baby, that is a cubic zirconia at best. That is, that is
Starting point is 00:19:57 nothing that you would, that you would find in your jewelry stores. Let's put it that way. But Gina is not sure whether she wants to take Travis's last name when they get married because she always liked the idea of her and her kids all having the same
Starting point is 00:20:13 last name, Kirshin Heider, even though her ex's name. That's, I think, a normal, a normal thing to, to be conflicted about. I'm happy that she and Travis are happy. I've always wanted them to be together. Last season or two, when, when they were like, living apart and she was like, I just don't know if we can do this anymore. I always was like, just love that man. Love that big, that big, like, hunky man. Let him love you. And I know it was stuff with his ex-wife and all of that, but like, I'm happy there together. I like to see it. They're doing well at real estate, apparently.
Starting point is 00:20:50 I always love to hear it. Whenever somebody says they're doing well at real estate, though, I'm like, what does that mean? I remember this is now like several years ago, but I had Kelly Ben Simone on the show one time, and she came in and she was talking about selling like hundreds of millions of dollars of real estate. And I'm not saying I don't believe her. Kelly, if you're listening, baller status, good for you. but I'm literally just like, huh, really? That's so interesting.
Starting point is 00:21:23 Like, Gina's not really putting dollar signs on it. She's like, every year we've done X percent better. And I'm like, okay, sure. Is, are, can you afford the house for the six? Are the kids still in bunk beds? What's the status? I don't know. But they seem happy.
Starting point is 00:21:40 So I'm happy that they're happy. The other thing that it seems like is going to be an ongoing thing this season is Heather's relationship with her mom who is 84 years old and has now moved to California at the West Coast somewhere closer after living in New York her whole life. Heather grew up on Long Island, I think. And this was a thing where Heather's dad is no longer with us. and so her mom finally lived closer. Heather's sister also lives on the West Coast. And their relationship has always been a little bit tricky. But now that they're in the same place and it seems like we're going to see a little bit more of it,
Starting point is 00:22:24 it's an interesting side of Heather that I don't think we get to see very often because Heather is like such a buttoned up person. She usually is so in the driver's seat in whatever situation she's in. And so when she is, you know, talking to her mom and her, and her mom is basically just like giving it back right to her. She's like, you could have lived, you could have moved closer sooner. And she was like, well, you could have come to the West Coast, or to the East Coast. You were never there for our stuff.
Starting point is 00:22:51 And Heather's like, I had four kids. And she's like, huh, deal with it. I'm here. God made, God made Los Angeles, but he lives in New York. What is that mean? Am I like, is that a thing people say? I don't think so. But I'm like, Heather's mom.
Starting point is 00:23:07 She's a little bit, a little bit spiky. A little bit scary to me. I don't think that I would like to have lunch with her. But speaking of Heather, she throws this Valentine's Day party for $75,000. What are we doing? There's like 15 people there. Why do you need a tattoo station? To get a real tattoo station at a party when you know most of these ladies are not of the getting a tattoo experience.
Starting point is 00:23:37 Why are we doing that? I just don't know if I'm getting a tattoo, I don't want to lay down on a table in the middle of the party when Emily is next door like bobbing for diamonds. It's a strange event. It's very weird. Heather says the venue used to be a funeral home and I'm like, I don't want to know that. I don't want to think about dead people skin flakes that could still be in the air. How much of a gut renovation did we do? it's it's off-putting i would say but we meet our new housewife carmella um she used to be a
Starting point is 00:24:13 playboy playmate she didn't live she didn't live in the mansion she lived in like the the bunny shack or whatever that's like next door to the mansion so she was at the mansion all the time but she never slept with heff uh important distinction good for you you gotta have got to have standards um she's now a real estate agent i would love to see her and gina butt heads over that seems like sooner or later it's going to happen. And she knows Jen because they have the same hairdresser. And I would just say that is a perfectly believable reason to know someone when you are joining Real Housewives.
Starting point is 00:24:50 I mean, I always love what they come up with to explain how they're entering the group. It's like, oh, you know, well, she and I, we have kids around the same age and they don't go to the same school. But, you know, it's just like when you have kids the same age, you just kind of are on the same wavelength. And so, yeah, we've been hanging out for two or three weeks. Like, they will go to any length to not just say, well, Carmelah got cast on the show this season. So here she is. They met because they have the same hairdresser.
Starting point is 00:25:25 A likely thing. When I go to the hairdresser, I barely want to talk to the hairdresser. I'm not, I mean, I guess, you know, when Jen is at the hairdresser, she's probably there for like six to 12 hours. There's a lot of foils happening and blowing and drying and treatments and whatnot. But, yeah, Carmel is here. That's all I have to say. We'll see how that goes. But everybody does end up showing up to this event. Vicky makes it back from her. from her Mexico prison, as I think she calls it at one point. Again, I would say, there are people in cages, Vicky. I think you're doing okay. But Jen and Shannon are talking about the Heather and
Starting point is 00:26:14 Tamara stuff, which seems like it's going to be a bigger deal, because they're basically saying that Heather needs to be honest about the issues that she has with Tamara. Again, this goes back to earlier in the episode. Jen is saying that after the reunion last year, Heather was talking all this shit about Tamara when they went out to dinner. And then she switches up and is Tamara's friend. And so it's giving two-faced. So they're like, yeah, Heather should be more honest with Tamara. And then Gina goes, five seconds later, and tells Heather that this combo has been happening.
Starting point is 00:26:48 And so then that's going to be a whole thing. Obviously, Heather's not going to like that Jen and Shannon are talking about her in this way. but then Jen also tells Tamara that she's a little fake with the group sometimes and that she's tired of it. She's like, you know, you say that you want to be close with us and then you go on a podcast and you talk all this shit. And I just, you know, we don't get like the 100% real Tamara and I'm a little tired of that. But also, Heather's been talking shit about you. And also Heather, I told Tamara that you were talking shit about her. Jen is really, she's having a big night at this Valentine's Day party.
Starting point is 00:27:33 I don't know if this is the result of production, giving her some pointers about how to immerse herself in the experience of season 20 right off the bat. But it does feel like Jen is doing a lot of maneuvering when it comes to this, you know, under the surface bubbling conflict between Tamara and Heather. And I guess I'm interested to see how it develops, but it does feel a little bit heavy-handed that Jen is kind of like running around this party telling everyone that they're respectively talking about each other. And it's like, okay, we get it. Let it, let it, let it simmer. It's like when you, um, when you're cooking and you like forget to appropriately season the dish during, during the process of cooking. And you're just like, oh, fuck, let me, um, Let me dump some salt and like paprika on this right before I put it on the table. It's like, no, you got to let it, you got to let the flavors, you know, come together. Everyone will get to know each other in the pot, as Kevin on the office once said about his famous chili. I think that Jen is just like, turn it down just a little bit.
Starting point is 00:28:48 Put it on like a low, a low boil. But the other thing that I think is really funny is that Heather is upset. at the beginning of this season about Vicky saying on her podcast that she she insinuates that Heather and Terry have inherited all their money. And Heather, of course, takes great offense to this because she's like, our mothers are still alive. Who would we inherit from? What do you mean?
Starting point is 00:29:18 What do you mean? And I don't think that Vicky, like, I don't think that this is like an accusation that she was making so much as just like something to say to kind of like dig at them. But Heather, of course, is going to take it literally. And Vicky in her confessional, and this is the kind of moment that I'm happy to have Vicky back for. She says, doctors don't live in $40 million houses. I know a lot of doctors.
Starting point is 00:29:42 Maybe it's her Emmy Award acting that paid for all of that. I will always be here for bringing up the, you know, story. acting career of Heather Page Kent. You know, that was one of my favorite moments from a couple seasons ago when Taylor Armstrong was on the show, and we were scrolling up IMDB pages. So this premiere,
Starting point is 00:30:07 you know, season 20, it's just starting. We also got a little teaser about some drama that went down during the filming of Ultimate Girls' trip, which I'm excited to see. It sounds like they filmed at The Quiet Woman, and Shannon and Tamara really got into it. And basically Tamara told Shannon that she's an alcoholic and that she doesn't even own a house. And that's where Shannon called her Tamara Grudge on TikTok.
Starting point is 00:30:31 And Heather is basically like, it's embarrassing that we're the ones being messy in front of all the other wives. And so I'm excited to see that, but I also love that Girls Trip is being brought up as like a plot point on this show. because that's, I think, one of the best potential outcomes of Ultimate Girls Trip as a property and that we haven't gotten it in a few years is like that there can be developments during Ultimate Girls Trip that then have ripple effects throughout the Bravoverse. And I, this is kind of the first inkling that we've gotten of it with this 20th, Roaring 20th edition. And that premieres in like a month. So it's coming very soon.
Starting point is 00:31:18 I'm excited to see how both of these shows develop. A pretty good premiere. I would not say this is like an all-time great episode. But I think they're laying the groundwork. The cast seems to be pretty... It's a good group. Everybody feels like they make sense within the group. I think they're doing a good job of reincorporating Vicky.
Starting point is 00:31:39 Carmela jury is still out. But it's back. O.C.'s back. And I'm happy they are. Let's talk about NextGen NYC. This episode is brought to you by Accenture. We're three episodes into the season. And first of all, I just have to issue, I wouldn't say it's a correction, but I would say it's additional context. When I talked about the premiere, I had a lot to say
Starting point is 00:33:08 about Ava's boyfriend, Hook, and specifically what the fuck kind of name is Hook. And I believe while I was trying to remember that his name was Hook, I guessed that maybe that maybe Maybe it was something like Chunk or Hunk or it was Hook. But I think Hook is his last name. I think his first name is Tyler. And Tyler Hook is a more real sounding name. And so I'm willing to take the L on that one. But Ava still calls him Hook.
Starting point is 00:33:43 And so it's still giving like Captain Hook made up name. But his name is Tybalt. His parents were, you know, normal, I guess. But I don't think they're still together because as I discussed last week, Ava's been Mackin on Kyle Cook. She went from Hook to Cook. That is, oh my God. Wait, that would be the wedding hashtag if two people with those last names were getting
Starting point is 00:34:10 married. Hashtag from Hook to Cook. But that's actually just Ava's dating pattern. Nobody's getting married. So, you know, not super investing. in the relationship of Ava and Tyler Hook, but I will assume that at some point between filming and now it has ended. Speaking of relationships,
Starting point is 00:34:34 it is so funny that Georgia last season was dating that crypto guy, Omar, who now is trying to go into business with Charlie, and she's mad about that. And she's dating a new guy now. And they're like, is your new guy also in crypto in her confessional? She's like, no, he's just like crypto adjacent. They're like, say more words. Keep elaborate.
Starting point is 00:34:58 You've got to tell us what that means. He runs some sort of betting predictions website that is maybe operates on crypto and he used to work in crypto. I'm like, baby. The difference between these pictures, they're the same picture. your man works in crypto and if if that is what Georgia is really turned on by is like crypto dudes who are like entrepreneurs but what does that really mean she should go for it that is not what I am turned on by if a man that I am you know talking to brought up crypto really at any point I think I would have a lot of follow-up questions and probably that
Starting point is 00:35:47 would sort of be like the beginning of the end. Not even because I think crypto is like inherently bad. Maybe it is. Is it using all the water? I know AI is using all the water. Is crypto also using all the water? Or is that? NFTs.
Starting point is 00:36:03 I don't know anything about any of this, you guys. If that is... But just like if you're the... If you're the kind of person who crypto is just like what you want to talk about, I'm not sure that we would have a lot in common because I'm usually more interested in talking about what we're going to eat for dessert or what happened on a Real Housewives show 15 years ago
Starting point is 00:36:28 or kind of anything more than crypto. So yeah, I hope Georgia and new guy, whatever his name is, are happy. But also it's like everybody in this friend group, this is such an interesting thing that I don't really encounter in my real life is it feels like everybody on this show or even adjacent to this show, they're all trying to start their own businesses, product lines, ventures. And I would just like to suggest, like, what about getting a
Starting point is 00:37:04 job? What about a direct deposit? What about getting a paycheck every two weeks and just kind of vibing out on that. I don't, because it's like everybody, there's this like hustle mentality. And I think for a lot of the people in this cast, it probably comes from a place of like, I grew up with parents that didn't have normal jobs. And so I need to also be like figuring out what my thing is. And I'm like, sometimes your thing can just be like being a marketing manager that makes 60 grand. And maybe that's not.
Starting point is 00:37:42 that exciting. But not everybody needs to have a clothing line. Not everybody needs to have a line of cleaning products based on the time on TV that they got called out for not washing their hands. Not everybody needs to have a nightlife destination. It just, Ava, not everybody needs to be an influencer. And that's okay. But it just, it feels like there's this like vibe within the group that it's like everybody
Starting point is 00:38:10 has to have their like thing that they're. they're working on. And I would just like to let them all know that it's okay to just like have a job and for that job to be kind of boring. And you're on a TV show. But I mean, maybe all the places that they would work just like don't want to have somebody who's on a TV show. Anyway, anyway, I did get the ick last week from Hudson telling Liam that he should like
Starting point is 00:38:35 stay away from Ariana when they're currently broken up. Ew. You just met this guy. He's not your best friend. he's going to be like around in the group so is Ariana. Ariana is more on the show than Hudson is. So why should Ariana be not dating somebody that Hudson doesn't know because it's awkward because they're all in the group? Last I checked, Hudson was not at Christian's ill-fated guys night.
Starting point is 00:39:01 So who is Christian in this world? He's very rich. He wears a lot of jewelry. He might be the love of Ariana's life. But at this point in filming he's not. they're not together. She doesn't have to do anything. Leave Liam out of it.
Starting point is 00:39:15 Weird vibes. But this episode did to me start to kind of go to a new level when there is the respective girls night, guys night situation because it gets very messy. And I don't mean messy in like a, oh, it's the biggest drama you've ever seen. It's messy in the sense of it feels like there's a lot going on. And there are starting to be more layers and nuances to the dynamics with this cast in a way that I think the first season felt kind of simple. It was a short season, not a lot of episodes. We were just getting to know the people.
Starting point is 00:39:55 It felt very delineated between like the housewives kids and everybody else. And now there's a lot of, there's a lot of like stickiness in a lot of the dynamics. People that were getting along last season are now having issues. Georgia doesn't want to be around Charlie. Brooks is having, you know, his own drama. Ava and Riley even, they are like in theory good friends. But then at the end of this episode, they go outside at this girl's night and they sort of start getting into it. Because it was weird.
Starting point is 00:40:32 It was weird to watch. Riley's like saying she wants a drink and like wants Ava to get her a drink. but she, Ava's like, you can say please and thank you. Like, if I'm going to get you something. And then Riley is like, please and thank you. Don't ever tell me to say please and thank you. That's so crazy that you would say, please and thank you.
Starting point is 00:40:57 Ew, don't tell me to say please. Don't ever do that. And I'm like, first of all, Riley, my love, I think maybe like take a step back. Say please thank you. I love saying thank you. To me, it's like there's no downside of just being polite, of being friendly, being nice to people, especially when it's your friend.
Starting point is 00:41:26 It's like, say fucking thank you. But also, the way that it feels like Ava and Riley are like supposed to be friends, but then have this kind of like nice nasty thing happening between them. I'm like, okay, I would like to put a bookmark in that chapter and return there and see what's going on there. We obviously have a lot of, you know, stuff going on with Ariana, still having an issue with Ava from the, you know, fashion thing. Ava and Gia are not getting along. You know, Charlie and Brooks have issues. There's a lot of, there's a lot of irons in the fire.
Starting point is 00:42:04 and it's good potential for the rest of the season. And it was very interesting this episode where Charlie, they're like getting ready for girls and guys night. And Charlie texts Gia's boyfriend Christian to make sure that that boy, Brooks, keeps my name out of his mouth. And Charlie tells Gia about this text. And Gia pulls Brooks into the bathroom of the apartment and tells him, and she didn't think it was on camera.
Starting point is 00:42:32 messy messy It's just like There's a lot going on And this is a show that I think has great potential And this episode We get a to be continued And it has made me more More interested in how the rest of the season goes
Starting point is 00:42:53 There was a funny moment too Where Georgia is asking Ariana about Hudson's social media behavior Since they broke up She's like, yeah, it's a lot of selfies. And, you know, he's not commenting on. He used to always be like the first comment on every photo and now he's not. And like, you know, that's crazy.
Starting point is 00:43:11 And Riley's just like, why do you know that? What are you? A blog? And that is like, I'm like, you are Candy Burris's daughter through and through. What are you a blog? I love it. Okay. In The City, we only have one episode left.
Starting point is 00:43:28 Next week is the finale of In the City. these first season shows, I'm sorry, you've got to give us at least 10 episodes. I think this is, I think it's going to be nine plus reunion. Not enough. Because I feel like this episode, we just started to get some new kind of bombshells entering the villa. Because this episode to me felt like maybe the first time that I really was getting enough from Lexi, Georgina, and.
Starting point is 00:44:00 Whitney. They all are sort of getting into the mix this episode in a way that I would have liked to see earlier in the season, sure. But the whole room, the whole like room assignment situation at this Friendsgiving trip to Connecticut is really kind of delicious. Because of course, Georgina and Lindsay claim the primary for themselves before anybody else is even like set foot in the house. But Kenny and Whitney are like, oh, we were a place. planning on giving the primary to Yvonne and Nick as like sort of a make-good for how how much of a shit show their wedding celebration dinner was. And Lindsay is like, oh, well, as the two mothers who haven't spent time away from their
Starting point is 00:44:47 babies, we really thought we deserved the bigger bed. She's like, I don't want to be spooning Georgina. And it's just, it's so awkward because Yvonne and Nick are just like, oh, Um, yeah, like, yeah, yeah, like, of course, like, yeah, whatever. And then Whitney is talking to Lexi. And she says that she feels like Lindsay plays the single mom card all the time. And I loved hearing Whitney say this, not because I agree with it or think it's correct, but because I'm like, yes, girl, get in there.
Starting point is 00:45:21 Make a mess. Make an impact. Earn your keep. And Lexi, um, she's not quite. it. She's like, oh, I feel like I haven't heard her say it that much, actually. But you know what she does do? She carries that bone and she tells Georgina right away. And I love that for her. And then Georgina, of course, picks up the bone and carries it next door to Lindsay. And you know that shit is going to go down. We still haven't even really seen the end of it. Because we have
Starting point is 00:45:55 other things to talk about. And that is that first, Lindsay and Yvonne have a little sit down because Lindsay kind of, you know, contributed to making a scene. Maybe she didn't cause the scene, but she was a participant in the scene at this wedding thing. So they sit down to talk. And Lindsay, first of all, she said earlier in the episode that usually she and Yvonne are talking like 18 times a day. They haven't spoken since this dinner. And Yvonne's like, I feel like we need to talk. And Lindsay's like, yes, in regards to your civil ceremony celebration. And she's like, my wedding celebration. The back and forth over whether this is a wedding or not, chef's kiss.
Starting point is 00:46:34 But Yvonne says that she feels let down by Lindsay. She expected her to be the one at the dinner that when things were going left, Lindsay should be the one turning the focus back to her, you know, getting people to pay attention to her at her, you know, third wedding event, whatever. and Lindsay's like, I was taking the heat from every angle. What was I to do? And you've blamed me for everything. And I was not the one who derailed the dinner.
Starting point is 00:47:03 And Lindsay's like, I left crying because of you. So actually, I think that you owe me an apology. I think that is the hardest I've left watching in the city thus far. realizing that Lindsay expects an apology from Yvonne for the absolute chaos that was that wedding dinner, oh my God, it's pure gold. And that is why Lindsay Hubbard is one of my elite employees. She's one of my star students. She's a pleasure to have in class.
Starting point is 00:47:41 Nobody else is doing it like her. Of course you're not getting an apology for that. Yvonne is like dumbfounded. She's like, I, what? And Lindsay's like, well, take it or leave it. They're supposed to be best friends. And that is where when you have somebody who's been starring in a reality show like this for 10 years and somebody who's been starring in it for 10 minutes, they're not on the same playing field
Starting point is 00:48:04 because to Lindsay, she can come into a show like this with somebody being her best friend. And at the end of the day, whatever happens happens. To Yvonne, she's like, wait, huh? What do you mean? What do you mean we're supposed to be best friends? just you're not going to say you're sorry? I really thought you were going to say you're sorry. And Lindsay's like, maybe next season. They'll make up eventually. It's not the end. It's never the end. So funny. I mean, Kyle and Amanda get into it again at dinner because she's crying about his DJ gigs.
Starting point is 00:48:36 I just like, I don't know. She's upset that he's not telling her about booking headlining at Hakasan. And it's like, you're not living in the same house. Do you want him to be Texas? stinging about his DJ gigs? I'm just skeptical of what Amanda actually wants. Like, it seems more like you want a divorce and to never speak to him again rather than for him to like keep you in the loop about his career developments. But if you do want to know about all the career developments, maybe you shouldn't seem pissed off that he has gigs booked. She's like, we're supposed to be getting back to each other and spending more to, and it's like, but you're not. And I, in theory, I get that she's upset about the potential for him to be staying out till 4 a.m.
Starting point is 00:49:25 And, you know, inappropriate and whatever. But, like, it doesn't seem like you want, like, you want the alternative to just be him sitting in the place that you don't live anymore alone, just like going to bed early, which, like, is what I do. That's fine. I do love that Gavin's, like, 2.45 a.m. in New York. work is a night in. I cannot tell you the last time I was awake at 2.45 a.m. Nothing. Nothing can keep me up that late. I'm old. I'm tired.
Starting point is 00:50:02 And Kyle is like a decade older than me. Go to bed. But also, if you're working, like, who cares? The whole point of him and Amanda being separated is like, now you can live your own lives. maybe I would have viewed this differently if I was watching it six months ago. Maybe I would have been more team Amanda. But I do just kind of feel like, what do you want? And Owen comes in with the most random sage advice, kind of, where he's like, look, I think I recognize a lot about what you guys are saying about it from my relationship, which I don't really want to talk about, but I guess I will just now because it feels relevant. Um, if you guys are going back to the past all the time, it's over.
Starting point is 00:50:49 Pull de plog. Thank you, Owen. Somebody with a brain. Like, they don't want to work on their relationship and that's okay. You can be adults who just want to get a divorce. Jack Antonoff and Margaret Qualley, they're doing it. I don't know the details there. Hopefully, hopefully it's not a Kyle in a matter situation, but you never know.
Starting point is 00:51:11 But it's just like, yeah, let it be. And we will see what happens next week on the finale of In the City. So soon. So soon. But I have had fun. Here we go. Someone's already claiming this is our year. Someone else said that last year too. A round of Jameson, ginger, and lime arrives at a table. Smooth enough for kickoff, smooth enough for extra time. New friends pulling up a stool.
Starting point is 00:51:39 Debates about whether that was a handball. Cheers rising like a roar around the room. Because match days are about the shared. moments. And we're going to be discussing some of the all-time best dinner party scenes in Real Housewives history to celebrate the invite, which is now in theaters. And I had the chance to see it last weekend. And it is a sharp, provocative comedy about a dinner party that turns into a night of unexpected desire and uncomfortable truths. It stars Seth Rogan, Olivia Wilde, Penelope Cruz and Edward Norton, like I said, I saw it last weekend, and I had heard about this movie. It had been a little hyped up for me. You know, whenever you're hearing good buzz about a movie, it makes me excited, but also I'm like, I really hope I, I really hope I like this movie.
Starting point is 00:53:04 And I had a time seeing the invite, because here's the thing. It's a very simple setup. There's literally only the four people in the movie. It's Olivia Wilde and Seth Rogen, are this married couple, you know, things have gotten a little, a little bland in their everyday life, and they're inviting over their upstairs neighbors, Penelope Cruz, and Edward Norton, can I just say hot upstairs neighbors? Like, I would invite them over too, but there's a lot of, you know, things kind of going wrong right off the bat, and it's chaotic, and, you know, maybe they're, like, yelling at each other right before the neighbors are at the door. Whatever you're having company over, it's like always a little bit like that, let's be honest. But,
Starting point is 00:53:46 The second, I mean, the second the movie starts, but especially the minute Penelope Cruz and Edward Norton get inside that apartment, you are just on this like roller coaster ride of of emotions, of hilarity, of, I was a little stressed, I was a little scared, I was a little, like, it's a little sexy, you know, you're having, it's just like, it's one of those movies where it's almost, and I know I'm doing a great job of explaining it, but it's almost hard to explain because it has a little bit of everything and you're just going through such a whirlwind of emotions in like it's a it's a tight package it just it goes so fast and penelope cruz i mean that to me she is one of the best she is so funny she's so locked in her character is like a psychotherapist
Starting point is 00:54:37 and so as you can imagine as the night unfolds she's kind of um maybe deploying a a few of those skills. And there are just a couple moments in the movie that I was having the best time and just reminded that like, these people can act. And Olivia Wilde is also the director and she can direct. I'll just say I had an excellent time seeing the invite. So now let's get into our segment who's invited. Like I said, we are going to talk about some of the best housewives dinner parties of all
Starting point is 00:55:06 time. Now, there were a lot to choose from. So if you have like a fun like suggestion of one, you. you wish I would have talked about? Let me know. I don't want to... Don't be mad at me. I had to pick five, okay? The first one I have to talk about is the Beverly Hills trip to Amsterdam when they are at that iconic dinner. You know the one. It's dark. It's moody. We're not talking about the husband. You know, we're having a piece of bread and maybe we'll calm down. I've had enough of you, you beast. Beast! How dare you? One of the most thrilling, scintillating scenes. And of course,
Starting point is 00:55:43 kind of like crescendos to where Kyle Richards is running away from the table and the wind is blowing in her hair and it's just it's just epic and the whole the whole scenario I mean that trip is great and I actually I went to where that restaurant was the restaurant isn't around anymore which is really a shame but I went to where it was in Amsterdam and now it's like a pancake restaurant and it's just very like it feels you know the I did The pancakes are good, but it made me a little sad that it's like this historic establishment now is just no longer in existence. But it's still there in spirit. And I think about it a lot.
Starting point is 00:56:26 Okay, the next trip I want to talk about, this maybe is a little bit of a deeper cut. But when I was thinking about what I wanted to feature, it felt important. And that is on Real House House of New York, the one season where they're on the trip to Miami. and Luann is a newly minted cabaret star. And earlier in the day, she has taken time away from the group to go see her cabaret poster. And, you know, they've forgotten the truffle fries at the beach. So things, you know, tensions are high. And this is that epic dinner where Bethany tells Luann that life is not a cabaret.
Starting point is 00:57:03 Cabaret, cabaret, cabaret, you're a sicko for cabaret. Just like the way that whole encounter is just escalate. and then meanwhile you have Tinsley off to the side slurring her words and Luann is making fun of her for it. She just goes, yeah, I'm drinking Luanne. Just the best. And like to me, I love a scene that's a little bit less hyped. And I think that that is one that I just wanted to shout out. The next one is Salt Lake City. Their trip to Palm Springs when they are, you know, eating outside at this restaurant and earlier in the day they have had this challenge where they're each picking out outfits for the other person to wear for dinner and so everybody's unhappy about
Starting point is 00:57:48 what they're wearing which is just like a good way to start off Lisa Barlow has had a meltdown about glam earlier in the day and of course Meredith is unhappy that Angie Katzenegas has been invited to this trip because how dare she and the way this dinner just goes completely off the rails to the point where Meredith is talking about rumors and nastiness and you want me to go there with husband. And when she thinks that the waiter at the restaurant is security and she calls for security to get Angie to leave the table, there's just nothing better. There's just nothing better.
Starting point is 00:58:27 And Salt Lake City had a lot of dinners to choose from. I thought about the one in Mexico where they read the meanest text they've ever sent about somebody else in the group. another all-timer man one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel okay the next dinner party that i have to talk about and this is another one that just brings me so much joy is the one on real houseways of potomac where candace was hosting the ladies at her house and um she and ashley were not in the best place but um she welcomed ashley into her home she gave her a beverage and things didn't go great from there. And the way Candace has this butter knife,
Starting point is 00:59:11 like she's going to do something. And this is back when Ashley and Michael Darby still had the Australian restaurant. And Candice saying, try me in that kangaroo restaurant. Don't try me in my home. It just was that era of Potomac, I feel like we don't talk about it enough. And that dinner party just, it went off the rails a little bit. The thing is, the thing about a house always dinner party is that you don't always have to have like the fanciest setup. It doesn't need to be the most elaborate, you know, tablescape or whatever. Sometimes you're just yelling in somebody's house. And I really, I really appreciate it. Now, the last one, of course, a classic. The New Jersey table flip, when Teresa, you know, was unhappy.
Starting point is 01:00:02 She and Danielle going at it in season one, it's almost wild to think back about that being a real thing that happened. Because it just is like, wow, we got to live through the same timeline where Teresa is flipping a table. The cop without a badge book is being slammed down on the table. Danielle is like, there are two things in this book that are true. Name change, arrested. And like history has been so long. There have been billions of years.
Starting point is 01:00:38 And we got to be alive at the same time that all of these dinner parties are happening. And I think that's beautiful. So those are those are my five. Again, there were lots to pick from. So don't be mad at me if your favorite didn't get chosen. Maybe next time. Thanks again to A24 for sponsoring this segment. I had the chance to see the invite earlier this week.
Starting point is 01:00:58 and it was a wild ride that you definitely won't want to miss. So head to a movie theater near you and expect the unexpected. The invite now playing in select theaters will be in theaters nationwide on July 10th. Get tickets now. Okay, that is going to do it for us today. Thank you so much for listening, watching, rate, review, subscribe, do all the things. Next week, we will have the Love Island finale. We will have, oh, see, we'll have Atlanta back.
Starting point is 01:01:28 We'll have lots to talk about. But in the meantime, everybody, have a great weekend. Thank you so much. And until next time, be cool. Don't be all like uncool. Betches.
