Hey, everyone, welcome back to the Mentioned at All podcast.
I have been loving this season of Atlanta so far, so I am super excited to get to sit down with the second season housewife for the first time.
Angela Oakley.
Hi.
Hello.
I'm happy to be here.
Welcome to New York.
Thank you.
I love New York.
I know you love New York.
And, you know, New York loves Charles Oakley, too.
I know.
It is so funny because we have had so many housewives whose husbands have done so many things.
But you ask like a random dude.
on the streets of New York City.
Charles Oakley is a legend.
We love Charles.
You're late to the party, honey.
Charles is a legend.
Exactly.
And you are now in your second season on Real Housewives.
Talk to me a little bit about
the trip from season one to season two.
Are you feeling more comfortable?
Was it easier?
Was it harder?
How did it kind of go from your first year to your second year?
Of course I'm more comfortable.
I didn't know what was going on
my first season. This season, yes, I'm very much aware of what's going on. And I think that shows up.
I'm looking over my shoulders. I'm asking the same questions twice to make sure the person said what
they said. I'm not jumping to conclusions. And I just feel like I feel more comfortable, you know,
in this space. And it shows. Yeah, I think it's when you're on a show with some like really seasoned
vets, you know, housewives professionals, you know, people who,
been doing this for a long time, you have to kind of like get the rhythm of how do we do this?
Fast and in a hurry or they'll run right over you. And so just having Portia and we had Kenya for a while
and Fadra, it definitely, they definitely lay it the way for sure. I'm interested from from the end of last
season that reunion. Obviously you had some central, you had some stuff going on at the reunion. You and
Fadra were really getting into it.
And then that kind of off-season period and then coming back and getting back into
the groove with the group, was there anything about that kind of in-between period that
surprised you, anyone you, you know, got a different energy from than you were expecting.
How was that transition?
The transition was good.
We had a good transition.
I will say in the off-season, I just took some time to further investigate.
So I was working in my off-season.
I wanted to get to the bottom of it.
I did not leave it at reunion.
Uh-huh.
And so, you know, through my investigations, you know, some things did transpire that were resolved.
However, I will say I found out that I don't believe, you know, that Thadra was a part of it.
Right.
And so that's why in the last episode, I gave her the opportunity to say it because I had never given her the opportunity to that point.
And, you know, once she denied it, I, you know, apologize.
I felt I liked that moment because I thought it's.
it would be unrealistic to say, oh, there's no lingering tension.
Yeah.
Everything just, we leave it in the past.
But to like talk about it a little bit more to hear her out, you know, she, she said
she reviewed the tapes.
Now maybe she said she didn't.
I don't know about the tapes.
I'm like, if, if Fadre really has the connect at the Hawks game to get the footage.
It was so funny.
That was hilarious.
because it was a moment where I'm like,
girl, I can get the tapes
and we was going back and forth.
I'm like, you know what?
Let's bury this right here
because it's going,
it's just going and gone and going.
So I definitely wanted to put a button on it,
especially after I realized
this lady didn't have anything to do with that.
It's interesting too because she came in
to the group midway through last season.
So you really had not gotten to spend much time with her
before that whole thing kind of went left a little bit.
So it's almost like,
Okay, let's just like get to know each other again.
Let's reset.
But at that point, everybody had taken a whackin to me, right?
I was getting bamed on by everybody.
So it was nothing for me to think she was next.
I'm like, oh, now it's you.
And, you know, I was just tired at that point at the end of the last season.
I was exhausted.
And but I will say getting to know her in the short period of time before, you know, the incident, I did enjoy her.
Yeah.
And so it was a little bit disheartening to think that she would do that.
And I was really taking it back.
Like, how could you?
Because I was starting to like you.
So this year, we start fresh.
And, you know, we have fun together.
She's fine.
I feel like that's the thing with Atlanta.
It's like everybody in the group has such a fun energy.
And it's like if you can just get past whatever you have to work through,
we could have a lot of fun together, but it's not always that easy.
It's that getting past.
It's messy in the middle.
Like, we can get good in the beginning.
We can be fine.
in the end we're great.
But in the middle we got to work through this mess.
So it's messy in the middle.
I feel like, so last season,
there was obviously a lot going on
with the overall group with like the,
the Brit and Kenya stuff got really noisy.
Fajra coming in part way through.
It felt like you were able,
obviously, you know,
it's,
you didn't have it smooth with everyone in the group.
But I feel like the,
the fans watching the show
were able to really pinpoint like,
oh,
this person is somebody we,
want to get to know more and like is really funny and you know it has this great spirit and I feel like
maybe when you were watching the show back and people were watching it along with you were you
were you able to kind of be like oh yeah there was there was some good stuff in there you know what
it was a season full of real moments right and I think people can relate to everything that I was
going with to having a wig mishap you know my husband telling me you know just
everything. I was thrust into conflicts that I, you know, didn't particularly want to be in inviting
Drew on Porsche's trip. It was just in a lot of mess. And so I was able to navigate it successfully.
And I think the fans were just, you know, rallying around me. Right. It was like all of a sudden,
it's like, no, we're the, the Fangulas. We're locking in. I think we all can identify with being
hot and sweating and everything. It was just a lot.
And to have a group of Fangulas who they've coined themselves,
Sanjolas, I'm like, oh, my gosh.
It was surreal.
Well, and I feel like it's when you're entering this arena, obviously it's a, yeah.
I love it.
Okay, water.
Obviously, it's a, you know, there's always conflict.
There's always people, you know, two sides of every story.
And with that, with the fans watching, you're not going to have 100% of people on your side.
but having that kind of
knowing that there are people that are in your corner
then maybe makes it a little easier
to know that
when people aren't in your corner
it's like okay there's some balance
I accuse Fadra
do you know what Fadra's fan base feels like
baby they did not care
they were coming for me
but again this is what I believe to be true
so I'm not going to fold
to the fans because they think
is at the moment, this is truly what I believe.
Also, I love in the first episode of the season,
the scene with you and Charles,
it felt like we were hitting the refresh button.
And the way that you said, you know, I'm not,
I'm not concerned about what people have to say.
Some of your, recently,
your, like, replies to people on Twitter and stuff
have been so funny.
Oh, my goodness.
When somebody said, oh, he hugged her for the first time.
he said, it's the second time.
Baby.
You missed it.
This is the second time.
Shame for you.
You know, like, he's only hugged me twice.
Again, I get it.
You know, Charles comes across very, you know, rough.
But what I say is that you are seeing a real relationship in real time on reality TV.
And that moment, you know, maybe I got on his nerves.
And the next moment, I'll get on his.
But when I tell you, this is just truly who we are.
being authentic, but if you saw
at Porsche's house, he was sitting in that kitchen
making sure I was okay when, you know, the girls
and I were talking. He's always, he's always going to have my back.
Well, I was going to say, not every one of the men made it to Porsche's house.
You don't say. Mr. Charles was in attendance.
He will be there. Charles will show up. You know, I might be ready
for him to go, but he's going to be there. I don't know if you'd be on the face time for
for three hours with the ring light.
Now you know Charles don't even want to be on the phone for 10 minutes
You know a face town with a light
No he has better things to do
That dinner was such a fun way to kind of kick off the season
As a viewer like it felt like we're getting right into it
Everybody's together again
We've got some new faces
We've got some some beef that we're working through from last season
Now we've got some vegan beef you know
Coming in the room
What was that? Tell me about that
night and kind of jumping right back in the deep end.
It was just hilarious.
Like getting us all together.
It was actually so much fun.
Like you saw my husband and Kay Michelle.
They were just in a party all by themselves.
That was truly happening.
And then Shemia and Drew going back and forth.
I was dying.
I was having a good time.
And, you know, portion, there's love interest who's now the man of the house.
We like, this is weird.
And, you know, we're introducing, you know, Pinky.
and her husband.
It was such a great dynamic.
And it definitely resonated with the fans.
And this show, the, the production and the editors do such a good job, too.
Like that, the, like, ghost, like, lightning flash with Simon coming.
It was just, like, so fun to watch also.
You could tell it was fun to be there.
Glenda is our production.
You know, our editing team, she is hilarious.
And when I saw the ghost, because I'm like, is she scared?
Like, is portion not scared?
And then when I watched the episode, I'm like, no, you didn't.
bring a ghost. Like, that is
hilarious. Like, how do you think of this?
But it definitely fit in for this scenario.
So good, so good.

Tell me about you have Kay Michelle and Pinky, new to the cast this season.
How much did you know Kay Michelle before this year?
Okay, so I only have known her through her music.
You know, all our fans are Kay and her work.
And so I didn't know her, but we, you know, she, you know, she'll speak on her.
Yeah.
So, you know what?
We are friendly.
And I only knew Pinky, you know, through her work.
And Pinky is such a big, you know, force in the Atlanta on the Atlanta scene.
So, of course, everybody knows who Pinky Cole is.
and everybody knows who came to shell is.
You know, I got to get more acquainted with them.
You guys will see in real time.
What was it like, obviously, a year ago,
you were the new one to the group,
and you had a couple newbies with you as well.
Did you feel like, how did you feel like your role kind of shifted now,
that it's like, okay, I have established relationships with all these other women,
and now there's two new people who are getting acquainted for the first time.
some people obviously had prior connections, but what was it like kind of coming at it from a different
angle? Well, you know, I wanted to welcome them to the group and, you know, just be, you know, just be a
support. However, Pinky and Kay are strangers to no one. And you see how Pinky introduced herself to the room.
So they just fit right in like they've been there. Again, I wanted to be there to, to like, you know,
help them navigate the Housewives streets a little bit because it's different. It's a different platform
than what, you know, even Kay has been on or Pinky has been a part of.
I tried to be there as best I could as I could.
And then, you know, issues came up.
We'll see how it goes.
We addressed them.
You know, you know, sometimes the good intentions.
When they say good intentions, the road to hell.
I paved with them.
Paid with good intentions.
Thank you.
I'm, there's a scene on this week's episode with you and Drew kind of catching up a little bit.
And it seems like you two are in a pretty good, pretty good place.
Yeah. Uh-huh.
You're Chicago girl.
Where's Chicago?
I'm from the Midwest as well.
I love it.
Where are you from?
St. Louis.
Okay.
The Lou.
All right.
I love to see, I love to see you two getting together.
But Drew, I feel like, has a tendency to get herself in some, some drama.
Yeah.
We see her go.
She and Kay Michelle have been at it a little bit in, in the press and things.
Yeah.
She and Kelly are.
Yeah.
beefing.
Yeah.
What is it like for you when you are friends with somebody who maybe has their own stuff
and deciding whether or not you want to weigh in, whether or not you want to kind of
take aside?
Where do you kind of like navigate that?
I try to remain neutral.
You know, I let the facts, you know, speak for themselves.
As far as Kay and Drew, I enjoy both of them.
You know, I do also let Kay, you know, I make sure Kay is.
aware of that, hey, Drew is my girl.
And she, she has
been the one rallying for me, you know,
since I, you know, got on this platform.
So I wish you would get
to know her better. But
of course, no one took my
advice. Like, I mean, they didn't care
what the hell I had to say.
And so, it
was difficult, but again, I love
both of Drew and
Kay, I love both the ladies. Yeah.
You're like, I don't have a music career,
so I'm going to sit this one out.
I can't.
on my way out of this.
I can't sing.
I can do.
Y'all can have that.
It's always,
it's always the housewives with the music.
Yes, they hate each other.
It's crazy.
Like, can't y'all just get along?
They hate each other.
Does Shemia,
is Shemia trying to get in on that too?
Like, there's always, there's always the music.
Huh?
Music?
Shemia.
Does that go?
No, I'm just kidding.
I don't even know if that goes.
But,
Kay definitely is,
and Drew has had a lot of success in music.
I mean, she has a song that I truly enjoy.
She has, you know, her last album.
And Kay definitely has hits that gone.
Kay has, I feel like the last couple, it's like when I'm, when I'm like scrolling or whatever,
people are posting a lot of like clips of Kay Michelle's videos and stuff.
And it's like, yeah, she, uh.
She brings it.
She brings it.
She brings it.
She's the real deal.
She's so funny.
I didn't realize how funny she was.
Had you ever watched like love and hip hop or any like the shows that she had been on?
You know, love and hip hop, everybody.
Yeah.
is Kay Michelle from loving hip-hop.
However, she is a force to be reckoned with, right?
She is really, really good television.
And she's just authentic.
Like, you know what you're going to get with her.
And that's just what it is.
And if you don't like it, yeah.
You guys have to see.
Because I really wish her and Drew could get along.
Yeah.
Well, if you have a little bit of it.
If you have enough time...
Yeah, like, if I could just waste away my years.
Season 27, maybe.
Season 27, we'll revisit.
I'm curious, now that, you know, you live through one season, watching it back,
hearing all the, you know, opinions and everything.
For this season, are you...
Are you...
Do you feel like lighter watching it back?
Or is there anything that you're kind of, like,
thinking about, like, oh, that episode's going to be challenging?
or that moment's going to be not fun to kind of see
or how are you kind of approaching that?
Well, you know what?
I just, you have to take the good with the bad
and we can't go and, you know,
redo what we wish we could correct.
There are some, you know,
there are going to be some moments
that are going to be tough for me to watch,
but, you know, it is what it is.
I have to live with them.
And it's, I guess,
just the part of being on the show.
You know, you put it out there,
you got to leave.
it and go on with your life.
However the fans or however the audience receives it, that, you know, that's theirs to
hold on to.
Yeah, because I think when you, if you overthink it, like the fans, obviously if they, you know,
they might have a negative response to some stuff.
But they also, if you're trying to behave in a certain way to get a certain reaction,
then that's what they're really not going to like.
They see it like, uh-uh, we see this.
This is fake.
Right.
This is not real.
So you just should be yourself.
Again, the fan base are, they will hold you accountable.
They will make you show up as your best self and just, you know, as yourself.
Otherwise, they will tear you up.
Is there anything that you feel like you could, that you've like picked up or like taken from,
from Portia, from Fadra, like people that have been in this game on the show and on, you know,
TV for so long of how to kind of like navigate those.
complicated things. I mean, we've seen them through so many ups and downs in their lives.
Well, you know, they just, they just own it. Whatever, you know, whatever the response is,
whatever, because I feel like Portia Man felt like she had a bad season or a tough season last
year. And she has to navigate through that. And seeing her come back this year just full of
energy, full of light, it's good to see. And it shows the professionalism. They're always punctual.
They're on time. You know, they lead the way in ways that I'm like,
Okay, I can learn from now.
For sure.
Being punctual is such an interesting thing.
Oh, are they not?
No, I, no, I mean, no, I think because we.
Oh, fair is definitely is.
On a, on Real House Stories of Beverly Hills this season, there's been a major through line of people not being on time.
I think that's so interesting because that's not, you know, when you say like, oh, they own it, they're real.
Like, we see that on TV, but stuff like that of behind the scenes of how you kind of like,
you show up.
Handle yourself and take care of business, I think is.
It's important because you expect them because they've been there 10 years to come in like,
oh, you wait for me, darling.
No.
Right.
It's okay.
You know, time is money.
You guys should be here.
Let's go.
And because it's money.
It's a business.
And so to appreciate the business portion of it, that's something we all can learn from.
Completely.
Yeah.
Apply that everywhere.
And I think, I mean, like you talk in that scene with Drew a little bit about like the
business stuff that you have going on and we're going to sell this house.
We're going to make a profit, even if it's.
One dollar.
One dollar.
Oh my goodness.
Do you feel like being around people like them and being on the show has changed your perspective at all in how you approach business ventures and things like that?
Oh, I've always been resilient.
Yeah.
No, I've always been.
Pick yourself up, get back up.
You know, if you fall, get back up.
Knock down nine times, get up 10.
That's just been, you know, that's who I am.
But it's definitely, it definitely feels good to be around women who,
who, you know, who practice that in their real lives.
Yeah.
And I think even people that are seen as so successful and have built amazing things.
I mean, Pinky coming on the show and talking in the second episode about I built this big thing, then I lost it and now I'm building it again.
Like it's not a, being successful isn't like a straight line all the time.
Oh, no.
You know how many times I failed privately, you know?
And that's why I was so comfortable sharing it with you guys because I'm like, hey, you know, I'm going to.
to fail again, actually.
I think when we try to hide our failures or our testimony, it hinders our growth.
So I don't have a problem with sharing, you know, my mishaps and the pitfalls because if it can
help someone, I'm down for it.
And then what, what you're going to do to me?
Like, you can't do anything.
I don't care what you say.
You can't touch me.
So I don't care about sharing this with you.
If you're open about your own, you know, mess sometimes, then people can't think.
throw that at you.
You can't weaponize it.
Right.
This is my tea.
I'm giving this to you.
And remember last year,
Porsche was like,
does this girl have Tourette?
Because I was just spilling all my tea.
Like, this is my life.
Y'all can have it.
You don't have to dig about anything for me because it is what it is.
All of that has made me better.
So I'm good for it.
And, you know,
it's only your second season.
I love it.
I love being here.
And,
and, you know,
like being open about all the,
all the,
you know,
the ups and the downs.
makes the ups, I think, even more.
That more magical, that much more magical.
For sure. I'm enjoying
this season so much more.
What's the thing that you're most excited to see
this season?
Just, you know, the girls, when we come
together, we have so much fun.
And I feel like last year that was
missing. Yeah. Because we
truly have a good time. So much
so, I'm like, are we filming?
You know, we are enjoying each other
so much that it feels like
a real sister.
And I think people sometimes like the the audience and the fans, obviously they love, you know, drama and mess and everything.
But the balance is really important.
And I think that people just as much love the fun, the fun shade.
The light shade.
Yes.
That I think especially for Atlanta, I mean, some of the most iconic moments are just like people being silly with their friends.
Yeah.
Portia didn't tell Nini she moved down the street.
And that was a big argument.
I'm like, can we get back to that?
Can we argue about you not knowing I got a pool in my backyard?
That's what I love and that's what I hope we can get back to.
And we do get back to that.
We're heading in that direction.
I'll say that.
Okay.
Well, I'm excited to see.
Oh, this season's going to be good.
I can't wait.
Oh, yeah.
It's so good.
And a lot of surprises.
It's just going to be a roller coaster.
That's the word I've been using today.
It's just going to be a roller coaster of things this season.
we're just getting started.
Oh, just getting started.
You're like, what happened?
What happened for all that time?
It's so much.
Oh, my goodness.
Waiting to you guys.
Well, Angela,
thank you so much for being here.
Thank you for having me.
So fun to chat with you.
I can't wait to see the rest of the season.
Oh, yeah.
And I know the Fangies will be right there with you.
I hope you sell a Fangi at the end because it gets rocky.
But I'm still standing.
Well, thank you.
And thank you everyone for watching.
Don't forget to rate, review, subscribe.
And until next time, be cool.
Don't be all like uncool.
