Betches Media presents.
Ha ha, laugh, funny.
Mention It All, a Bravo by Betches podcast.
We don't say that, but now we said it.
With me, Dylan Hafer.
Who's going to check me, boo?
Hey, everyone.
Welcome back to the Mention It All podcast.
I'm Dylan Hafer, and today, I am so excited to have a Bravo OG 10 seasons in the making.
She is in the studio from Mary to Medicine, Dr. Jackie Walters.
Hello.
Hi.
How are you?
I am so good.
I'm glad to have you here.
I know, I think you did something with Betches in the pandemic, like on Zoom, like a video series thing, but I've never had a chance to talk to you.
And I am loving this season of Married to Medicine.
I'm loving, I mean, every season of Married to Medicine is there's a lot to get into.
But this season especially, 10 years in the game.
10.
How does that feel to think about 10 seasons of this show?
It's actually surreal.
You know, once we said 10, we were like, okay.
Because you always feel like, okay, did we do enough?
Did we share enough?
But 10 years, we're super excited.
And to have been there all 10 years.
And it's been a lot of stuff in 10 years.
Yeah.
I feel, I mean, married to medicine, of all of these kind of longer running shows, the cast
has been so consistent.
I mean, just seeing on these last couple episodes the way that you and Simone and Toya and
heavenly and quad have this like decade of stuff to work through. It really is like,
it's not just that we've been watching a show for 10 years. It's like we've been watching
you guys specifically. Yeah, you've watched us evolve. And the beauty of marriage to medicine is we are
all actually friends of some sort. You know, you may be closer to one person than the other,
but we're all friends. And if anybody has a function going on or crisis, we're there. You know,
we put aside everything else and we're there.
So that's the beauty of marriage medicine is we talk all year long.
We don't just talk during the season.
We don't just have episodes.
We talk all year long.
Yeah.
And you can feel that.
Like when the cameras pick up for the first episode of a season, it doesn't feel like
it's just kind of like, okay, what do we have going on?
I guess we can, I guess, I guess we'll plan a party.
It's like it feels like we're kind of following a story that is happening whether or not
the cameras are there in a way.
that not every show kind of has that vibe to it.
Right.
And you know,
if you follow us on social media,
you typically see I had a milestone birthday in July
and all of the ladies were there.
And it wasn't just for,
we weren't feeling.
We were friends at a birthday party.
I traveled to Italy with Heavenly.
I hang out in the call rooms on Tuesdays with Simone.
We call each other about issues and questions
and what would you do and how can you do a difference.
So we're friends.
And because we've been friends more than the 10 years of the show, we've evolved together.
You know, I delivered Simone's son.
And to watch him now go to college, get an apartment, talk about girls.
I'm like, boy, I was the first person to touch you and I did it your penis.
So are you misusing my artwork?
The kids on Bravo are always such a crucial part of watching the.
these shows watching this season Allura get ready to go to college and now she's,
you know, she's at family.
It's like, I'm so remembering like 11 year old.
The little girl sitting on the steps, giving us a heavenly look.
Yes.
Yeah.
And she's my patient.
And so to see all of that now and look back, because we get to capture it on camera
and to see how we've all evolved is just mind blowing even to us.
You have, I mean, so much going on, both on and off the show.
obviously, you know, you've been a doctor working this whole time. We see you're with,
you know, Angelina Jolie and Kamala Harris, you know. Yes. You have a lot going on. Do you feel
like this show has been kind of, like, have you ever felt like it's a piece that you could walk
away from? Or do you feel like it's a part of what gives you that platform and that ability to
make change and to be involved in everything that you are? How do you kind of balance those pieces?
I certainly give Mary to Medicine credit for that, you know, without them in the platform to get before some of these people.
Now, Angelina Jolie is a little different.
That was by, you know, divine intervention.
Her daughter is a part of my illustrious sorority.
But, yeah, I think married to medicine had a lot to do with it.
You meet people, you go places, you see things that you wouldn't normally see.
Yeah, I mean, watching that episode when you guys are in California right now and you're like, in the morning, like, you know, I got to do my.
a Zoom call with Madam Vice President.
I was so nervous.
I'm telling you, I was so nervous.
I didn't want to say the wrong thing.
I didn't want to sit there frozen like I didn't know what I'm talking about because we're
talking about a crisis that's happening in the United States of America, which is maternal
mortality in the black race.
You know, it's horrible how it's happening.
We see it.
But to talk to the vice president of the, the vice president of the United States, I mean,
the first woman, the first black woman.
I was sitting there like, oh my, I was staring like, oh, my God, am I dreaming?
Wake me up.
I couldn't sleep all night.
Well, I think it's, I mean, obviously, personally, that's a major thing to get to do,
but also just the idea that those conversations are being had on that level about something
that, like you say, is a crisis.
It is such a big, it's such a big issue.
And to have somebody, you know, in the vice presidency who is making space for those conversations
and connected to those communities, like, that's.
that's not something that we've always had.
And to talk to me.
You know, you don't ever feel like you're this celebrity or star walking around.
Because when my white coat is on, I'm a doctor.
You know, I'm not a doctor on marriage medicine.
I'm a doctor taking care of women, real lives.
And trust me, I worked so hard this weekend, I'm a real doctor.
And so to sit and have that conversation with her and to know that this person,
you know, the second highest in the United States of America is concerned and making ways.
to make it better and I can be a part of that village is is so rewarding to me.
You know, I often say be the change you want to see.
I want to be a part of that chain.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And it's an ongoing thing.
And I think that's, it's been amazing to see over the course of these 10 years,
all of the real issues that have been brought onto the show talking about, you know,
the medical missions that you guys do sometimes on your trips and, you know, the Black Lives
Matter movement and, you know, all of your work.
you know, being an OBGYN and being able to do those things. And we see Dr. Heavenly doing some
of that as well. Like, it's a, it's a special thing that I think your show is kind of uniquely
capable of tackling those things. And reality TV shows are kind of built around the drama.
And, but we actually give you substance. Not to say that the other shows don't, but we actually
give you something. And I get so many emails and so many DMs about situations that women are going
through. You know, I've talked about
infertility on the show and how hard
that is. And to be an OBGYN
and not to experience the thing that you
help women experience every day, it's
kind of hard. And then
infidelity, how we live through that
and we move forward and, you know,
if you just keep watching the show this
season, there'll be a lot talked
about. But just
the things that we share that
other people can relate to
more than just drama.
You know, everybody has drama. You go to a family
reunion, you get drama.
If you go to a real board meeting,
a real doctor's a board meeting,
it's married to medicine.
Okay.
Yes, honey, you hang out of the hallrooms at night
and you see other, you know,
it's a reality TV show.
But to get to share the substance,
the medical stuff,
the medical missions,
we try to go to every country
and leave a market in those countries
that nobody could erase.
Because marriage to medicine came
and we did missions and we left food
and we gave medical supplies.
We talk to women.
It's what we're all about, too.
We don't just want to be a show of drama.
It sells.
It's good.
But we also want to say in real life, doctors do this.
That's part of what makes your show exciting is that it does have both.
Because, I mean, I'm not going to be like, oh, the drama, who cares?
Right.
Let's be real.
I mean, Quad coming out of that coffin, it's.
Now, that was it for me.
You know, here's the truth.
And we don't, you guys don't get to.
to see y'all, we didn't know we were going to a funeral home. Yeah. We didn't know. We just had the flyer
and we really thought it was going to be about Dr. O or something when he has risen. I said, okay,
you know, I don't guess we've done much church on the show. Yeah. But I didn't, we didn't have,
and when we drove up and we were like, oh, come on, I got, we still didn't know what the scene was
about. So when we got there and we're at the funeral home and we're walking in and it smells like a
funeral home. You're thinking, what in the world? And the music was good. So we were laughing and having
fun and everybody was being everybody. And then his coffin comes out. And you got this whole little
grandstand looking like a New Orleans funeral coming. And you're like, who in the heck is in his
coffin? And we thought it would be something, but not somebody. Right. Yeah. I mean, she must have been
in there for a good few minutes at least. More than I would have ever been. You're
not going to put me in a coffin until it's time.
It feels like it's like bad, bad karma or something.
Yeah, I'm not doing it. I'm just not doing it.
And, you know, I kept saying, does somebody get in this car?
It hasn't been used before.
Because, you know, you can rent everything now and then divide it up in installments and all this stuff.
But to get in a coffin, I was like, whoa.
Yeah.

We'll talk more about Quad in a few minutes.
I want to talk about Fadra
joining the show this season.
Obviously, you two have both been in
the Atlanta, you know,
Bravo sphere for a long time.
What was your kind of experience with Fadra
prior to her coming on to
this show?
The beauty of that is Fadra actually did
my father's funeral. And so when I lost my father, I was out of town. He had moved to Atlanta with me
and I didn't know what to do. And I just remember Fadra on the show saying she was going to
mortician school. And the only person I knew to pick up the phone right then and call was Fadra.
She truly said, I got it. So much so that I didn't stop my plan. You know, I couldn't get back to
Atlanta and raise my father from the dead. So I did the next best thing is I want him to go out in style.
So I called Fadra. They picked up my father.
when I got back out of town two days later, everything was done.
He looked like he was sleeping.
So that's how I knew Fadra.
And then when Fadra shared last year's BravoCon that she was dating a doctor,
you know, I'm thinking, okay, you look like married to medicine.
And from there, you know, here's Fadra.
It's been so fun to watch her kind of navigate this group this season.
And that's exactly what she's doing.
She's getting a feel for everybody.
And she's the kind of person where, I mean, obviously, we've watched her on Real Housewives.
And she's very strategic.
She can sense out the dynamics in the group.
And it's been interesting to watch kind of as she's figuring out, she has this relationship with Gregory from the past.
And now that, you know, Letitia's in the group, kind of like what's going on with that?
And with all of you, OGs, kind of the lay of the land.
And did you ever have questions kind of about her intentions within the group because she does have that kind of social skill level?
Or were you just kind of happy to have her around?
Well, Fager's a lawyer and I'm a doctor.
So we're always watching each other.
You know, they're watching us and we're watching them.
But, you know, again, we're smart enough to know the moves too.
Because patients tell us the stories the way they want us to hear it all the time.
And as a physician, you kind of have to discern and decipher.
and dig through to see what they're really talking about.
So that was that, you know, when Fager would say something, I go,
mm-mm, that ain't medically adding up.
But you don't tell the patient.
Like, you ain't telling the truth.
You just ask another question.
You just get them, you know, those tests we took
and they asked the same question 10,000 times.
Okay, that's what we do with Fager.
Okay.
You just got to keep going and going until you get her to really break it.
And make it make sense for herself.
Mm-hmm.
Right.
And kind of like maybe you're not showing all your cards.
right away.
So then down the road, you'll be able to kind of...
But think about it.
She's a lawyer.
She's a mortician.
You know, you put all that...
She's a reality TV.
She's a reality TV star.
Okay.
So this season, Latisha joining the group, I think people were kind of...
I mean, just sort of the on paper, the idea of it that, you know, we saw Gregory for all those years with Quad.
And then he went away for a little bit, at least from...
from our viewing experience.
And then now he's back and getting married again to this, you know,
this new woman that we don't know yet.
New young.
Yes.
And that, you know, 27 years younger.
What was your sort of off camera and then coming on to the show,
how did you process the addition of sweet tea to the group?
So for full disclosure,
I actually met her at one of my 50 Shades Pink Golf Tournament.
So Greg had brought her to the second and the third golf tournament.
We met her.
Very feisty, had lots of energy.
We were thinking, okay, I mean, like, well, I did one of these golf tournaments, you know.
And then I think maybe heavenly suggested you should come to some of our events.
And then, you know, from there, Bravo and the production crew takes over when they start seeing and say things.
And here she is.
Did you, so there's been a lot of talk on this season of people.
having things to say about their relationship and kind of the, you know, it, heavenly.
Well, let me correct you.
People don't have to say she shared.
So we could only comment, and I say we as an ensemble cast, comment on her relationship
with things that she shared.
So we don't want the audience to think that we were asking questions at the house we
were, because to walk back in what we called Quad's house and to see it make this whole
transition in our little reality TV show minds.
We were making comparison like, okay, why do you say this room purple?
And you know, the editors, they have all that footage.
They're going to do side by side.
And you know, nothing on reality TV is a secret.
You can't even think it.
Right.
Or they've got to put your words up on the screen.
So we were at the house.
But I think Letitia came in as a new person sharing more than we would have advised her to share.
And it was talked about.
Mm-hmm. Do you feel like over the course of the season, do you think she kind of maybe got a little smarter about how she was going about things?
I mean, we initiated her properly. You know, you got to come in and earn your stripes. So she had to learn quickly. But, you know, we were so wise. We were able to share the wisdom of being on reality TV with her real quick. So she did realize don't talk so much. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, those first few episodes, it's, you know, I mean, those first few episodes,
It is kind of this, it's like a fascinating new person to be introduced to.
And she gave us a lot to take it.
A lot.
Yeah.
And then, you know, another, because I don't drink, I can't give you much advice,
but I would say, don't drink because drinking lowers your inhibition.
And your brain does not process, shut up lips.
You're talking too much.
Okay.
I've heard people say that, that especially when you're new on a show, you don't realize that, you know,
you get stressed out or you're nervous.
and you're like, oh, I'll have, you know, let me have a drink so I'm calmer.
And then all of a sudden you're watching the footage back.
Yeah.
Like, did I say that?
You know, and you do that on reality TV anyway.
You'll say stuff and then they'll say you said it.
I'm like, I never said that.
And then they play it and it's like, I did say that.
So I learned that early in life.
We say a lot of stuff day to day and just conversations that you don't even hear yourself.
Yeah.
And I think especially like when you've been on a show for 10 seasons.
Obviously, you have this awareness of how everything gets put together,
but then also you're so much more comfortable being yourself maybe on camera.
And you're friends.
Right.
So we're together anyway.
And then oftentimes you will forget that that darn mic is on you and you're talking and sharing and you realize,
I mean, we just did that this season and God, please don't let it show.
The mic's on.
Mm-hmm.
We were like, oh, my God.
Yes, I hope the footage.
I mean, I hope the camera broke or something happened.
But yeah, we did that.
It's funny because I feel like you have this reputation for kind of being the one who keeps it together more than everybody else a little bit.
But it's like over, it's 10 years.
It's like not everybody is always, you know, you're not always saying the exact right thing at the exact right moment.
And it, you know.
No, and you'll see this season that there were things saying.
that I'm like, I wish I could take that back.
But, you know, it's 10 years.
We're all friends.
And, you know, you're actually closer to your friends sometimes in your family because you're spending so much time with them.
And so, yeah, you'll see a lot of that last half of the season.
It's been, it's been interesting to watch these last few episodes.
It feels like you and Simone and Toya and Heavenly have really kind of formed this core group, having been,
in this for so long together.
Do you feel like that was a little bit of a new thing this season, of the four of you
really being on the same page about quad especially, but kind of the overall experience?
Or do you think those foundations were sort of already there?
Well, I think they were already there, but we were the Fab Five, if you recall.
During the time I was going through my tumultuous situation, we were the Fab Five.
The girls were there, you know, hold your head of, stay strong.
And what you're seeing this season isn't malicious toward Quad.
It is the fact that we really missed her.
And so some of what you see is we were hurt too.
We felt like we were put aside and we don't see you or talk to you
or we're there for you were reaching out to you.
And you don't answer your text messages for weeks that, yeah, we felt hurt too.
Well, I noticed it felt like the four of you,
it did it felt like you were all coming to it with your own personal experiences like it wasn't just
like you know one person said oh let's let's do this this is what's going to happen and then
kind of like that gang up mentality like you had expressed previously in the season that you felt
like you maybe weren't getting what you needed from your relationship with quad and that it
wasn't being reciprocated and then we saw you know heaven like kind of had the same thing to say
And Simone kind of had the same thing to say in it.
So it didn't feel like it just sort of came together all of a sudden of like, you know, we're going to go to California and we're going to stage this thing.
And, you know, it was never intended to go.
We didn't come in saying, we're going to bring her to the table and we're going to have this conversation with her until we got to California.
And we still felt like there was no sincerity about this relationship.
And I was late because I was working.
So when we got there, it's like, we're going to.
going to go to dinner tonight. And we were all hoping that Kau would say, you know what, I messed up.
I messed up. I've not put in the time to create a friendship like we need and we're going to fix it.
And so the funeral went south because we were hoping again that Kau would say, hey, I have risen and I want to make it right.
And I messed it up. We all messed it up, but let's make it. Sometimes you just got to learn when to know, you got to know when to just.
us say enough is enough and be the bigger person.
Yeah.
And I don't think we got that as a group.
And it wasn't about a quad and toy.
You know, I think they're going to fight until, you know, Jesus comes back.
But it was about the entire group wanting from choir something she wasn't giving us or couldn't
give us.
And so everybody was saying the same thing.
Like, have you talked to Guad?
No.
Have you talked to Guad?
I reached out to Guad.
Did you reach out to Guad?
And then we all notice we're all getting the same thing.
Right.
And I think when you have the depth of relationship and the amount of time that you've spent
together, it's not just the thing of like, oh, well, like, on this day, I said this and I wish you would have said that.
It's like you start to zoom out and say and realize maybe that a relationship isn't serving you the way that you.
Yeah.
It goes two ways.
You know, you expect.
There's always going to be a 60, 40, 70, 30 relationship in some.
You may be stronger in this and I'm stronger in that.
But friendships coming together, you both get something from it.
It's like a marriage, you know.
You can't be the only smart person in the marriage.
And if I am the smartest person in the marriage, then you should know how to do the house real good.
You know, there has to be something where the puzzle pieces come together and everybody's getting something whole.
I'm curious because you've been on the show with these other women for so long,
how much do you think about the the sort of fan side of things and the viewers?
Because when I think of what's happening with Quad in the group right now,
I understand where it's coming from socially within the group,
but I think a lot of people just love watching Quad on TV.
And so it is kind of like a, oh, like, I wish they could get to this place or whatever
so that it would make sense for Quad to stay in the group.
But I don't, maybe when you're in it,
you can't really let that influence.
The thing we want everybody to know is we actually enjoy quad.
Why brings a dynamic to the group that nobody else can bring?
That's what I think is so good about Mary to medicine is everybody brings something that
the other person can.
And so we like that quick wit quad, the stuff that will come out of our mouth.
She's a hard worker.
We like that.
But we don't like it at the expense of I'm always the one making it happen.
We want to hear from you.
We want you to be apart.
We want to know when we start this season, we're in it together.
You know, we're a group.
And we weren't getting that.
Yeah.
But I want everybody in the world.
We have since filming wrapped.
We've been hanging out with Kwai.
We've all been to dinner with Kwai.
We've laughed and talked.
Now, Kauai's always going to be the last person to get there.
We do know that.
I mean, there's just some things about Kau you have to learn to accept and learn to like or you just don't.
But when we're working on a show together and when we're in a friendship group together, everybody has to play a part.
And we weren't getting that.

Married to Medicine, I think, is maybe the foremost example of the reunion form.
I think you guys do it like no other show.
Yeah.
And I'm curious.
So I'm sure you have a reunion.
Oh, we do.
Coming up.
Oh, we do.
How do you approach those, especially after so many years and seeing kind of all of the,
all of the whatever?
that can go down at a reunion.
It's all happened on your show.
Do you feel like you're more at-piece
kind of going into reunions now than you used to be?
Or is it still this, you know, looming thing
on the calendar every year?
I'm at peace.
You know, I said what I said.
I did what I did.
And all I can do is make it right
or stand on it at reunion.
So we don't have to practice for reunion.
Now you get to live it three times.
You know, you do the scene.
You watch it on TV.
The hard part of watching it on TV
is you don't get to see the whole three hours of filming.
Right.
And then the parts that we see, you're like, that's not what I meant.
You know, but it's good TV.
And then at reunion, you get to clear that all up.
You get to say, I'm sorry, or you get to own it.
Or you get to say, no, we want more from you.
And in order to be in this girlfriend group, this is what we expect from girlfriends.
Like, you want your friends to call you.
You want your friends to make you feel like you're important in their lives, too,
and not just when we're filming.
And I imagine, like you've been talking about how this group is a real group that you see each other and you talk and you spend time outside of filming so that maybe when you show up to film the reunion, it's not like, okay, like I had six months.
I didn't talk to anybody and now I got to come in here and answer for my season.
It's like, no, it's a part of your kind of evolving relationships.
And we do it all the time.
If I have a function, I'm calling like, hey, I need your money.
I need you donating.
I need you to show up.
And then we'll go like, you're buying one ticket, just one ticket, you know.
Can we do a table?
Yeah, yeah.
And we do that with each other all the time.
Toya has a holiday party.
Everybody's expected to show up and bring a darn expensive gift for five people.
I'm like, Tori, you had the most expensive white elephant than anybody.
That sounds like Toya.
That's very toy.
Yes.
And so we do it all year long.
So when we get to reunion, it's not like I haven't seen you.
I haven't been in your house.
I'm with Simone almost every Tuesday.
So we get to share.
And, you know, if you keep looking at the missing part of this group, is we don't get to share with quad.
We don't.
I always love it.
You can tell Andy loves those reunions with you guys, too.
Ooh.
Does he really?
You know, by the end of the reunion, though, Andy's letting it go.
You know, he's over it.
I know.
I mean, he does so many of those, and he really holds it together.
But I think about this year reunion.
We got the wife.
We got the ex-wife.
We got the husband.
We got Fajer who dates.
or maybe not dated, you know, lawyer talk, we don't know.
$4,000 a month.
Yes, I know.
Then you got the doctors who we go at it about, just whatever.
You know, it's going to be probably a monumental reunion because it's a lot to unpack.
Yeah.
And I think that's, it says so much that after 10 years, your group still has all of that
ground to cover.
And it doesn't just feel like, okay, like, what are we finding?
Somebody said something on social media.
Like, it really feels like there's, there's real kind of growth and, you know, movement every year.
Have any drinks, truth serum.
Like, she is going to tell it.
Like, don't tell her anything.
I mean, I was talking to her.
I'm not telling you.
I'm not.
I'm not going to do it because you're going to talk too much.
No, I'm not.
I promise I'm not.
It's going to be on the YouTube channel in 4.2 days.
There you go.
Absolutely.
And so what I think Married to Medicine this season shows there's a cry for genuine friendships.
If you're going to be here, you're going to show up and you're going to be a good friend.
If not, it's okay because we fight for each other every year when it's time to come back.
We want to make sure you're a friend, you're looking to your left and you're right.
I expect to see a heavenly and Simone.
I just expect to see it.
I think they expect to see me.
We want to feel that way about Kwai.
We expect to see Kwai.
We expect to have Kwai show up and be a real good friend.
You know, friendships can be like soap operas.
You just pick up, but not as much it's weird together.
You know, it's got to be more.
And then we don't want to see you with the other woman.
You over here hanging out with Sister Circle, you know, and you over here with the girls from real, it's okay.
But don't make them more important.
Okay.
It's, yeah, it's, if it's real, it has to be real.
Absolutely.
Yes.
I'm curious, if you look at the last 10 years of this whole experience, how do you feel like being on this show and being on reality TV in general has changed you, if at all?
Well, I know not to go out looking raggedy
because there will be a picture of you somewhere
that's going to pop up.
Be careful what you say
because it'll end up on every blog in America.
But it also has open doors that wouldn't open.
I get to see patients now,
which is so surprising I was just talking to my office manager about it.
I see, I have patients traveling from all over the world now.
I used to say the United States of America,
but I've had people come from Canada
to see me about a situation.
they didn't feel was being treated appropriately at their hometown. So it has really
launched me into a place that I don't think I would have gotten without it.
That's amazing. I mean, you're doing you do such great work and no and who can tell better tell you
about breast cancer than somebody's who's been diagnosed with it twice who can tell you about
infertility than the person who helps other people get pregnant and couldn't get pregnant.
Who can tell you about living infidelity out on an international show?
where everybody saw it, you know?
And so people want real people, and that's what we're asking for from our friends.
Absolutely.
Well, I cannot wait to see where this season goes.
Oh, me too.
You know, it sounds like that reunion.
It's going to be.
Everybody, they should sell tickets.
They should sell tickets and have an audience.
Look, I would be first in line.
Yeah, I think that's a good idea.
I think I'm going to make that as a suggestion.
You should sell tickets.
Yeah, text Andy.
Come on.
Yeah, and split the money among us.
Yes.
Yeah, profit participation from the reunion ticket sales.
Absolutely.
That's on the docket for 2024.
Yeah, but it's a lot of still moments that you're going to get this year, this season.
It's still stuff that we are going to go, oh, my God, when they see this.
And it was all season, all season.
It was always something else that you would go, oh, my God.
So, yeah.
Well, I can't wait.
Dr. Jackie, thank you so much for being here.
