Please welcome to the show
Jasmine Ellis Cooper
Hi Jasmine
Hi Dylan
How are you?
I'm doing great. How are you? I'm well. I'm doing good. You're thriving because you're from St. Louis.
Sure. Yeah, I mean, you are a month or so into this summer house Martha's Vineyard experience.
How has it been so far this show coming out into the world? This has been such a huge blessing, honestly. I'm just grateful for the ride.
ever since we got announced
it's been nothing but love.
I think we trended on Twitter every week.
So it's been fun seeing everyone's response
and investment into like,
not just myself, but like all my friends.
It's kind of exciting and cool.
I think to your credit and to Bravo,
they did a good job keeping you guys under wraps.
Like I don't think a lot of people knew this show was coming.
The best cast secret.
I don't think people, I think, because, you know,
obviously some are how.
Summer House has been on for years and it's always the same, you know, they go to the same place.
It's the same group.
It comes out around the same time.
And then to be like, oh, there's another one.
And it's coming.
But wait, there's more.
It was like a good surprise.
Absolutely.
I think so.
And just following the same structure that everyone falls in love with Summer House, but then adding, you know, our group of friends, you know, we're all opinionated.
We're all very different.
And I think you pick up on that every week.
because there's so much going on.
I think that's what kind of endears people to this addition to the franchise.
Yeah.
And watching these first few episodes, like you were saying before we started,
it doesn't feel like a season one where it's like,
okay, we're all kind of meeting each other and we'll see kind of how this goes.
If there's stuff to talk about, whatever, we really jump in, you know, feet first and there's a lot.
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
Every time, you know, Silas and I watch at home and we're just like, we just can't keep it light, huh?
We just can't keep it like.
We are, this is life.
We're lifeing right now.
Yeah.
I mean, our friend Gibson John's tweeted you're voting people out of the house like it's Survivor.
I love Gibson.
He's such a sweetheart.
Yeah, he's the best.
But, I mean, take me back to last year.
You got married in the summer in July, June, June.
And then you're often Martha's been you're doing this a couple months later.
Yeah.
What was it like kind of deciding to take on this adventure, especially the fact that you had just gotten married?
You know, at the onset of the show, I was super excited.
I was like, wow, look at life.
Life.
Like, I feel like I manifested everything.
I manifested this man.
I manifested getting out the car.
I manifested this amazing group of friends that I have.
And so going into filming, it was like, okay, so we're just going to do what we did last year.
That was pretty much it.
The year before we had like 17 friends in a couple of houses.
And we also were the host.
And we were pretty much the same that we are this year.
So that was the biggest thing for Silas and I, I think for everyone else to have it structurally be like, okay, we're the host.
Yeah, sure.
But there's a lot of people in this house.
They have a lot of stories.
I'm getting to know new people like a mirror who I adore.
And it's just fun to day by day figure this out together.
You know.
And you guys did it.
It's 15 days.
You're in the house the whole time.
It's a new show.
I don't know if everybody has had a chance to catch up yet.
But it really feels like.
If you haven't watched it now.
Right.
But like day by day by day, you kind of feel the vibe in the house like there's some
days where it's like, okay, everybody's on eggshells a little bit or like this day
is going to be good.
But I think the fact that you guys all went there and stayed there the whole time, it really is like it doesn't let up.
Very different.
I think, you know, like OG Summerhouse, they go home during the week.
And then you come back on the weekend.
And for us, it was like, oh, no, you're here.
So if you didn't pack something, you need to have it shipped or something.
It's like it's not an easy island to get to.
Anyone who's been knows that it definitely takes trains, planes, and automobiles.
So when you're there, you're there.
And whereas typically maybe last year, okay, that drove me wrong.
I'm going to talk to her about it later.
Like, no, we're here, y'all.
Let's talk about it now.
You did this.
I felt this way.
Let's hash it out because we are very much roommates for over two weeks.
And so we're going to feel everything that everyone else is feeling.
Like you can't really skip over things.
And it's going to get a little messy.
We're going to make mistakes.
Oh, your tone was a little different.
those little nitpicky things that you would have with a real life roommate, as any New Yorker knows with 18 roommates, you pick up on that stuff.
Right. And as, like you said, you and Silas are like the hosts of the house and of the season kind of by extension.
Was that, did you feel like that was kind of pressure on you to make the group a certain way?
Or how did you approach that?
Look, if I'm being honest, absolutely.
I think if I could go back, I would definitely, our approach.
approach was to just do it like we did the year before and the year before that.
We always had an itinerary. We always made sure everyone knew what the pricing was for restaurants.
Like we're that, we're that couple. We just really like taking care of our friends and making
sure people that can come over to our house or go on a trip. Like you have not a lot to worry
about. But with this setting and all these cameras, of course it's like, okay, I wish you would
have definitely gave left Fs. Honestly, I wish we would have cared.
a little bit less.
Yeah.
And been like, okay, y'all, sort that out yourself.
We actually don't have to be involved in everything.
Because we did kind of take on the mom and dad role, even though he's like the youngest guy in
there next to Amir.
Yeah, the intent was pure because we've done this before.
But at the same time, it did take up a little more space than we anticipated.
And I really wish that, you know, our friends would have felt more liberated to take more space
and not kind of stick to this, you're the host, like, forget that.
We're just here.
Let's just have fun.
I wish I would have, you know, locked that in it.
I think especially when you have the cameras there and there's this idea of like, you know,
what is the storyline or what's going to make it on the show.
When you, it almost could make people kind of like resentful that it's like, oh, well, like,
if she, if she's the host, then like, I guess I'm the, you know, the side person or what.
And obviously I don't think that's how you approached it.
We never viewed it that way.
Right.
We viewed it as if, like, like, I guess.
like, look, one of the things that I fell in love with Silas is, you know, he's a Liberian man.
And that means if there's things going right, if they're going wrong, he's going to step in and
be like, hey, what's going on? Let's talk about. Let's resolve it. Whereas me, as you'll see time and
time again, I'm a huge conflict avoider. That's something I'm working on in therapy. But you can't
avoid anything in this setting with our real friends. So it became kind of an ongoing thing.
that we didn't really have a chance to slow down and be like, all right, y'all, okay.
You know what?
Leader of the week, Preston, leader of the week, somebody else step in.
We're going to be on actual vacation for a second.
And hearing you explain your kind of personality types, I almost see how Brea could label that as like he seems controlling.
Because if his vibe is more like I'm going to step in and handle it and you're a little more laid back, like maybe it could come across that way.
I'm like, maybe handle it please.
Yeah.
I don't want to do this.
He's like, I got you.
I've also been.
So good, so good.

Great brands, great prices.
That's.
why you rack.
Girl, winter is so last season.
And now spring's got you looking at pictures of tank tops with hungry eyes.
Your algorithm is feeding you cutoffs.
You're thirsty for the sun on your shoulders.
That perfect hang on the patio sundress.
Those sandals you can wear all day and all night.
And you've had enough of shopping from your couch.
Done hoping it looks anything like the picture when you tear up on that envelope.
It's time for a little in-person spring treat.
It's time for a trip to run.
Ross. Work your magic.
Brea is kind of the source of some
some interesting dynamics this season.
Briah and Milo, I guess.
A little Milo. Have people been
coming for you? Do people think that you hate dogs
on social media and stuff?
People think a lot of things. And honestly, I find it
partially entertaining and partially news to me.
I think Brea and I dig it off on the wrong
foot, which is understandably so.
but you'll see every episode as you watch and go on this trip with us.
She came in with a lot of baggage to say to least.
I think her intentions were pure, just like everyone.
I feel like everyone's intentions were pure.
But again, we're different people.
And some of us haven't seen each other in a long period of time.
And some of us seeing each other a day before.
And so with that difference of where everyone's at
and constantly doing a temperature check,
I can see how, you know, Brea might have felt isolated at times or might have felt like,
oh, we're always talking about me.
And yeah, we got tired of it.
I think in episode four you see, yeah, we're still always talking about Brea.
I'm over it.
I'm over it.
Because I think I started to pick up on, okay, things are getting a little repetitive.
We're making a lot of decisions, but at the very least, we have to keep making decisions
as a house, which is so annoying.
I promise is not like Survivor.
That was never the intent.
but there needed to be some sort of order or structure because if it goes awry,
I feel like, you know, y'all going to be pointing at me and I don't want that.
Well, the situation with Phil and Mariah leaving the house was definitely complicated.
And I think if you guys can see how big my eyes are right now.
I think the two of them were kind of different because it's like Phil came in.
The second he got to the house, it was a problem.
You know, whatever happened in the bathroom, I don't know there.
But like he never really got a, you know, he was never really in the house in the house.
Whereas Mariah.
There is there as long as an Uber Eats order.
Okay.
The delivery you get, that's how quick he was there.
Whereas Mariah, I mean, you're, Mariah was your friend in the house.
That's my rock bottom bestie.
And there, you know, was this unfortunate situation that happened.
And you kind of had to be the one to be the bearer of bad news.
And I'm sure that was, I'm sure that did not feel like a good position for you to be in.
honestly you know that's that's my best friend today she stood in my wedding i'm her son's godmother
so we've been through worse and as soon as she left you know she we text the whole time like
okay that was a lie i'm out of the house like okay we'll try this again next year like okay girl cool
i wish i would have stood up for you a little bit more i definitely wish or know that you deserve
to speak your peace but you can't put maria and feel in the same
Like they didn't come in as like, you know, peanut butter and jelly.
They're two different people.
She was in the house from the jump.
And I just wish there was a conversation.
Maybe we should have slept on it.
Maybe we drank too much all day.
I don't know.
But at the end of the day, she has a voice just like everyone else.
And, you know, it's lessons learned.
I think that's the biggest thing that I'm learning in the now is this is a huge opportunity for me to learn about my friendships and my relationships.
and like, where do I want things to go from here?
Mm-hmm.
And that's something I've talked to a lot of people that have been on reality shows
that, like, this is a rare opportunity to actually get like a bird's-eye view of everything
that's happening, what people are saying about you when you're not there, what you said
about somebody that you forgot, you know, like, it really is kind of a 360 view that you
wouldn't get outside of that experience.
And I imagine that that is a mixed bag.
It is.
It is. It is a mixed bag.
You know, like anyone who's first time being thrust in the public eye, it's like, oh, you guys think this about me all.
It's interesting.
They don't always feel great, but this is the time to not fold or make myself small.
It's the time to be my bubbly, whimsical self.
I'm naturally a playful, carefree person, and I can't change that now.
I can just take it on the chin and move forward and maybe pivot some of the folks.
focus on, hey, here are my amazing friends.
Be sure you're getting to know them too, while you have these judgments of me.
And that's fine.
I get it.
But, okay.
The situation with Brea and Simon coming to the house, there was a disagreement over whether or not
she had said this to you before.
Let's talk about it.
Please.
It's your first season on reality TV.
And, you know, the footage is the footage.
Absolutely.
It'll clock anyone.
How do we feel having watched back the episodes knowing what we know now?
So here's where I stand on it.
And any of my friends will tell you I'm a very adaptable person.
I have no problem.
I'm all you right?
Oh my God.
I can't believe I did that.
However, to me, and you'll see it in previous episodes, my hearing isn't the best.
It really isn't.
When Nick said something about how the most extensive, I thought he said most expensive.
And there was another instance, too.
But when we were at the bowling alley and Brea said,
You know, he definitely plans on coming out the last week.
Like verbatim, she said she plans to come out.
And of course, Silas and I were like, that's fine.
That's great.
Clearly you're in love.
We've already come to a point of understanding.
Let's move forward with good energy, even though, you know, my back was against the wall
and I had to have my best friend leave.
But let's move forward with good energy.
Cool.
He can come out.
And Amir says this.
We all understood it was going to be three days.
And when it came back, the conversation came back up, like, okay, he's coming.
it was like, oh, it was confirmed because he's in Germany.
So that's a flight that's planning.
Right.
So let's just have a conversation real quick so we can bring all the right information to the house.
Whether he's staying three days or one week, that's not up to us.
It's up to the house.
And with that difference and everyone came for me on Twitter and was like,
production clocked you.
You said it's this.
And I'm like, yeah, we said he can come and he still can come.
We just didn't understand what the last.
Last week and staying for a week, that little difference made was huge.
Right.
Huge.
And even when Silas and her were talking, we never said he couldn't come.
That was never, it was always very clear.
It's just about the length of time so we can make sure everybody else is okay with it.
Yeah.
Which, I mean, that made sense to me, like, regardless of who said what at what time, it's like six days is a long time to be in the house.
I mean, Chenice is only there on the weekends.
You got summer and Jason coming in this past.
episode like not everybody's there for the full 15 days like it's you know six days.
I mean it wasn't that big of a deal but I think it really did come down to principle like
okay when things go right or wrong y'all do look to us and so in that moments we can't fold or
step back we're going to step in and if he's came for a week if he came for two weeks the whole
time even that's fine he's going to be in her room it's no big deal however we just misunderstood
what he's coming to last week and he's coming for eight week meant.
Okay, let's bring it to the house because clearly not talking about things among the house
gives us in some problems, gives us some sticky situations.
Again, I cannot say this enough.
I don't like conflict.
I'm like, let's just talk about it as a group so we can move forward.
And it's not survivor.
I promise you it's not survivor.
You've mentioned the social media aspect of it a couple of times.
Have you had a sort of strategy for how to navigate that as this season has been airing?
Like you said, you're kind of in the public eye for the first time.
Yeah, no, no.
I'm just me all day, every day.
And I'm not going to lie in the beginning.
It was pretty hard because I was like, interesting.
I feel like I'm being very misunderstood because these are my friends.
It'd be different if we all didn't know each other and we're learning.
But these have been my friends for years, meaning we all went into this good.
We're going to come out of this good.
So I think my strategy now is just being more.
myself out loud and not just processing.
Just act.
This whole endeavor has been such a blessing and a leap of faith.
But I refuse and I've never been a person to think that it gets worse.
I can only believe that it gets better.
Yeah, no.
It's going to have its roller coaster just like the season is a roller coaster for everyone on the show.
So I'm not alone in that.
Well, and I think like the Bravo fans are die-hards.
and sometimes they're with you,
sometimes they're against you,
but at least they're watching, you know.
I've been there.
Listen,
I've watched Potomac.
I've,
I watch everything.
I'm such a,
such a Bravo girly.
So I get it.
And I really did think
that that would be enough
for me to navigate the space,
but it's one thing to be in it.
It'd be like,
oh, wait,
this is kind of different on the side.
Wow, because I get it.
You feel,
what I love about the network
is you really do get invested
in people in their lives
and their friendships and how they grow.
And what I'm kind of coming to now is, okay, so we're on a journey together.
If y'all not rock with me right now, that's okay.
Just stay along for the ride.
It's fine.
We'll circle back around.
We'll circle back around.
We'll circle back around.
Maybe next time.
Oh, my God.
I love that you watch Potomac.
That's top tier.
Top tier.
Top tier.

I want to talk about the situation with Nick and his girlfriend that we found out about recently on the show.
Wait here, let's talk about it.
Let's get comfy.
So as coming into the season, a married woman, you are a little bit removed from the relationship question marks in the house, you know, who's interested in who, who slid into whose DMs.
Were you surprised to find out that Nick was not single?
Oh, you saw it all on my face when we did our Ramosa walk.
I was like, what?
Like, is this for real?
I truly wish I had no idea.
I had no idea because coming into the house.
house he was you know playing it cool being his cool dapper self um so that kind of that really
threw me for a loop and again i think silas and i retired early that night so we found out
the day after everyone else did right um and for me i was just processing like what does this mean
what do we do like uh huh like so so many questions naturally right and he it was surprising
to me like the initial reveal but then he also said that he's been in a relationship with this
in for like a year. See, and that's the thing. It wasn't, it wasn't that he was in a relationship.
I think it was the length of time. Yeah. Because we've hung out. And I did not know that. And I just
wish, you know, like a lot of us. And I can relate. I'm sure there's a lot of things he would have
handled differently. But yeah, it was, it was news, honey. It was news that day. Yeah. And then I mean,
the DM piece of it just, it's just messy, you know. Because if, if,
you're in the DMs of every single woman in the house. Yeah. That's already messy, even if
there's not a girlfriend. Listen, I can't speak. I can't speak for that man, but I'm sure he has a
very valid reason and he will share that wherever he's going to share it. But I know, like you said,
you know, I'm still human, married or not, single or not. Like, I've been single for you.
I was happily single for four years before even meeting Silas. So I get that there's a lot of
ambivalent language sometimes, but I just wish in hindsight that he would have just said it sooner.
You know, like when I went around and aggressively asked, is everyone at this table single?
Yeah.
I mean, I feel like I gave you a, you know, a green light to be like, actually, I'm glad you mentioned that, Jasmine.
I just felt like I was unclear where everyone else was.
And I didn't want to be assumptive, which is why at that all white dinner episode one or two,
I'm like, all right, y'all, what's the status?
so everybody's on the same page.
Right.
Like, we all know how this works.
Like, people are going to be talking.
There's going to be, you know, if people are single, they're going to be, you know,
feeling out the situation.
And in hindsight, I get how it was a little matchmercary, like, where is everyone at?
But come on, y'all.
I don't know.
I don't know.
Let's talk about it.
I feel like we all also have that friend who's in a relationship who's like,
okay, let me see your dating apps.
Who are we talking to?
What's going on?
Listen, it is.
it is quite the endeavor. I think relationship or not, the pandemic changed us all. And it changed
our friendships. It changed our relationship to ourselves. And, you know, every year coming back
to the vineyard is like, okay, what's the growth now? And with our group of friends this year,
it was like, okay, this is, there's a lot of shifting happening. And it's not just the fact that
we're newlyweds, because we've all partied together since we've been in a relationship. So
Yeah, it was it was interesting to kind of take note of and visually watch it episode episode, kind of where we are with our friends.
Yeah.
And seeing in, you know, last week's episode, Summer and Jason come into the house, I thought it was, it was interesting to have Jason there as somebody who you lived with in the past.
Oh, that's my brother.
Like that's a like interesting dynamic to add to the house.
Then obviously, you know, summer seems like a good time.
They're both a good time.
I love both of their energy.
I feel like the second,
and, you know, I was texting them as the episode
was getting ready to come out.
And I was like, all right, y'all, it's y'all turn.
Here we go.
Get ready.
Because, you know, we've been out for like three episodes.
So y'all get ready.
So when I saw, like, in real times,
I think I was live tweeting the episode,
how people received Summer and Jason.
I was like, this is good, good energy.
Like, meet more of my friends.
Like, I promise you,
there's 20 more people friendship-wise with Silas and I
that y'all couldn't meet.
but neither here nor there.
Jason is such a light.
That's quite literally my brother.
He and Silas are inseparable sometimes with their conversations.
Like that bromance is real.
And Summer is such an impenuated writer.
And I think what's funny is both she and Jason have this justice quality to them.
And a counselor, like, I think what they mean.
Like, I love how they can instantly hop in and have fun and engage in conversations.
Like, they wasted no time.
And I really did appreciate that.
Yeah.
The fraternity conversation in the kitchen where somewhere's like,
hmm, why are we doing this?
I had never heard of her sorority.
I really had never heard.
Like, I was, that was a learning moment for, I think a lot of us.
We were like, huh?
Huh?
Like, trying to understand.
Because before even knowing that, you think about it, you have Nick and Alex and you
have Silas and Preston.
And so I was like, okay, let's have a fun little, you know, Greek against Greek.
But then learning that in the moment,
It was like, oh, so you are Greek.
Okay, so what do we do with this information?
Oh, actually, we can just stick to our original plan.
It's fine.
It's a little spicy.
It was spicy.
It was spicy.
I was like, I don't think they're sexist because Preston and Sall's saying the same thing.
And so is Alex and Nick.
But, okay, I get where this is going because I'm also not Greek.
So I get it.
I mean, whatever.
You just want to play beer pong.
Have a good time in your tokens.
We won, though.
We won.
I stay on the winning team.
I tell you that.
Yeah, I feel like a lot of everyone in the house is pretty competitive.
Oh, my gosh.
We're so competitive.
That's why I do love when we have those challenges.
It's fun to really to see us play.
I like to you guys fishing too.
Like you went fishing for real and you caught fish and you ate them.
Yes.
I think Preston caught the most, which is exciting.
We all caught a fish.
But just to eat it was like, wow, we really, really thugging it out here.
I was impressed.
I was really impressed.
I was happy.
I was happy because I know that for Amir, that's something that he's used to.
I grew up fishing again on the Mississippi River.
So I get it.
But for some people, they hadn't.
So it was the first time.
So I just loved that we were in a space that we could be open.
And that open and fun led to us having Summer and Jason come in.
So it's like, all right.
This is, let's keep this energy going.
Like, stop.
We're talking about Simon.
Damn it.
We were doing so well.
Yeah.
It can never just be a, never just be a nice chill night.
Yeah, we'll figure it out.
Well, we'll see.
What is, is there anything coming up in the rest of the season that you're like the most excited about
or that you're a little bit not ready for people to, to see?
You know, we're there for 15 days, so it's like we live through it, but it's interesting to see what does and does not make the cut.
I think just the more fun times.
We have, I think, a rose brunch.
We have a girls' night and guys night out.
I'm really looking forward to seeing that because, again, I felt like we didn't have enough girl time.
Like, there wasn't enough turking.
There wasn't enough separation.
I feel like we did a lot of things as the group.
And so splitting up sometimes was nice.
Girls night, but you better not get any, uh, any free drinks.
Little known fact.
I've, I've definitely had a scare or three with men in terms of drinks.
Okay.
That's, that's where that all comes from.
Yeah.
I don't.
I think, look, I think men can be weird.
In terms of, in terms of couples and, you know, you and Silas are married, I feel like every
couple has a different setup that works for them.
Absolutely.
And so I think, I understand.
why other people in the house have questions
or like that's not what I would do or that's not
kind of my vibe. But like there are certain things where it's like
it doesn't affect you. But
but we're on the same page.
Right. What we're talking about? I will say
watching the episode, I busted out laughing
when Shanice was like, let's girl
gets drunk because I remember in the moment being like,
why are you saying this? Like did the pandemic not make us all
want to go out less or more? Like
everyone responded differently to that. So to me,
it was like, I don't know if that's
Silas thing or if it's a pandemic thing.
For me, it was more so a pandemic thing.
I'm not really out in these streets like that.
I'm like a few years older.
I'm tired.
I'm, you know.
I still feel 28 sometimes.
And I have to remind myself to go out because I am a little bit older
and like so much is changing and the show and marriage and family and friends.
It's a lot.
But I will say watching this show, I have as much fun as you guys watching it.
Yeah.
I really do.
That's good.
I feel like.
For the most part, as long as you can enjoy the ride, like maybe it's not 100% positive.
But like as long as you can be like more on the more in the green, you're doing a good job.
For sure.
I feel like I've joined my own, this own Greek organization called Bravo.
Pretty much.
