Ha ha, laugh, funny.
Mention It All, a Bravo by Betches podcast.
We don't say that, but now we said it.
With me, Dylan Hafer.
We're going to check me, though.
Hey, everyone.
Welcome back to the Mention at All podcast.
Oh, boy, what a last week it has been.
I am really glad to be sitting back down with me, myself, and all of you.
Obviously, our last couple episodes, if you are up to date, you'll know.
but if not, we've had a great couple of Housewives episodes back to back.
We had Whitney Rose on last Thursday.
And then on Monday, Stacey from Real Housewives of Potomac, who I am really enjoying so far this season.
I've talked about Potomac, you know, the last couple weeks, how I'm enjoying it,
how it feels like a breath of fresh air in the Housewives world.
And Stacey just has an extremely unique energy, I would say.
And talking to her in person was both a lot of fun, but also I would say.
different from the average housewives interview energy.
She very much gives QVC host, and I don't mean that in a bad way because it's literally
just a fact.
She's a former QVC host.
But if you haven't had a chance to listen to either of those episodes, I would recommend
it.
But it was nice to have a couple of guests, you know, back to back because it's been a
weird week in the world, in the Bravo world.
I don't know.
I just feel like the vibes have been a little bit.
bit off. And we have a lot to talk about today. Some, some interesting news stories. And then we are
going to talk about Roney. I have honestly, for the last couple weeks, I have not really had to talk
about Real Housewives of New York very much. And that has been a nice thing because, frankly,
there's not that much to talk about. And as I was watching this week's episode, I was like,
okay, like, I know, you know, I'm recording Wednesday morning, got to talk about Roney. We'll find
something to say, I guess. And then over the course of this episode,
we find out that there's this pregnancy prank going on. And all of a sudden, I'm mad as hell.
And I'm ready to ran about it. But we're going to get to that a little bit later. Rebecca Mankoff, your time is coming. Trust and believe.
But first, I want to address some news that happened last week that we didn't get a chance to talk about.
First of all, Real Housewives of Dubai is reportedly being put on pause.
after two seasons, you know, they gave it a good college try.
I think that this is, I have mixed feelings about this news.
Because on the one hand, I was not the biggest fan of Real Housewives of Dubai.
I thought it had strong moments.
I thought that there were, you know, people in the cast who were really trying their best.
And there were parts of it that I really enjoyed.
There were, you know, there were things that I felt invested in.
there were people that I enjoyed watching.
There was fashion.
There was drama.
You know, there were a lot of good bones to that show.
But I think that for a few reasons, and also for some maybe some, you know, undefinable
variables, it never really solidified itself as a franchise that you needed to pay attention
to and needed to kind of add into your rotation as a housewives fan.
And I think, you know, for me, I watch all of it.
shit. Whatever they, whatever slop they put in the trough, I'm going to slurp it up. And partially it's
my job. Partially it's my, um, my lifestyle choices that I'm going to watch it. But I think for a
lot of people and I heard from a lot of you that, and I think, frankly, I think Roney is kind of in
similar territory this season that it's like, maybe you dip your toes in, maybe you catch up
eventually, but like on a week to week basis, Dubai never felt like a must watch show. And in, in this
era when not only are there lots of things happening on Bravo. I mean, right now we have four
Housewives shows on. Beverly Hills starts next week. We've got, you know, if you're into below deck,
that's great. We've still got, you know, other stuff happening. But there's so much other stuff
happening too. I mean, the amount of streaming services and shows and content and people ask me
all the time, they're like, oh, do you watch, do you watch The Bachelor? Do you watch Love Island? Do you watch,
you know, Love is Blind. I don't watch any of those shows because I literally don't feel like I have time. And I know for a lot of you, if you're not, you know, watching Bravo for your job, you're probably always kind of deciding, okay, I'm obviously going to watch Salt Lake. I'm obviously going to watch, you know, Potomac, if that's one of your shows. But then like with the other hours of your week that you have for watching TV, you're probably going to watch Love is Blind or you're going to watch The Golden
Lorette or you're going to watch The Diplomat on Netflix or you know what I've been watching the
last week? I've been watching old episodes of 30 Rock to turn my fucking brain off. And so I think that
for shows that are kind of not seen as must watch, they're kind of competing against all the
other noise in the universe for 42 minutes of your time. And I don't blame you if you want to
choose something else. So, I mean, Dubai, I think it certainly didn't help that they had that
two-year break between their first and second season. And I think that that is something moving forward,
if they are interested in trying more of these sort of international experiments or new franchises
in general, I mean, we know that next year we're going to be getting Real Housewives of London
as a Hey You original. We're still waiting on what, what, if any, arrangement there's going to be
for us to watch that in the U.S. So, you know, it's technically not a Bravo show. We'll see.
but like knowing that housewives is going to continue and to evolve and to grow and to change,
like that two-year gap, I think really was detrimental because there were so many people who probably
did watch season one, or at least watched enough of it to feel like they knew who the women were
and, you know, were maybe somewhat invested in the relationships.
But two years is a long fucking time, especially in a streaming, especially in a streaming,
era when you're watching things quickly and maybe you left all the episodes till the end and then you
caught up on it. Like, I don't remember what happened on a show that I watched two weeks ago.
There's the reason why when you go to watch like a new season of a Netflix show, just, you know,
I'm watching The Diplomat right now. That's why I mentioned it before. That show was off for like a
year and a half and this new season starts with like a three minute recap of what happened last
season. And let me tell you, I didn't remember a damn thing that happened in that season. And
Even watching the first episode, I was like, oh, my God, wait, who's, who's that?
What's the, what are we, what are we mad about?
What just happened?
Like, who's in the hospital?
I don't, oh, God, I don't know.
And Housewives is not immune to that.
And I think that those two-year breaks for women that we had just met for the first time,
it's really difficult to overcome.
I don't want to harp too much on sort of the individual cast members or specific storylines of Dubai,
because I think overall it's not really about that.
I think that, you know, somebody like Caroline Stanbury, obviously over a decade of Bravo, you know,
existence, I think that she is, she's a star.
We didn't always love her on Real House size of Dubai, but I think people like her, people like Lisa
Milan, people like Chanel Ayon, they obviously have that star quality.
And for some of the reasons I've mentioned, some of the ones I haven't, it just didn't pan out.
And I think it's okay.
not heartbroken over this Dubai news. I think that it's unfortunate that this franchise wasn't
able to kind of solidify itself, but it wasn't in the cards. I'm still hopeful that we're
going to get new U.S. franchises. I don't know kind of where they are on that developmentally,
if it's a priority, if it's something they're thinking about. But like, it feels like they have to
be thinking about it. And knowing that Dubai is going to be on pause, or at least that's what we're
hearing, it seems like now would be a good time to really think about what could we do
stateside. What could we, what could we do back home? Maybe on a slightly lower budget scale,
maybe with, you know, I don't know. I just think there's, there's room for that. But I mean,
we have lots of housewives happening right now anyway. So that's Dubai. You know, congratulations,
ladies, on two seasons. And maybe we'll see some of you again. Maybe we won't.

Okay, now we got to pivot to Southern Charm because we got some
Some strange news last week regarding J.T.
Who, J.T., if you don't remember, was introduced on Southern Charm last season.
And then he is in the cast for this season, which premieres in a few weeks beginning of December.
He announced on social media that he has resigned from Southern Charm.
So I'm just going to read, I'm going to read his statement, which he's such a boy because he posted this.
he posted this like it's clearly a screenshot from an instagram story but he posted it on his
feed and it's like the or it's like the instagram like create mode it's that like orange gradient
background with the white all caps text and it's just so ugly there is an art to this like
this is not an apology but like the the instagram apology the instagram statement the notes app thing
there's like a sliding scale of, you know, are you going to have somebody, are you going to have your assistant make it in Canva with like a nice little template? Are you going to screenshot the Instagram create mode? The Notes app screenshot obviously is a classic. This is kind of like bottom of the barrel formatting. Like it's really not visually appealing to me. The orange and white is just it's giving creamsicle, but like in the worst way. But I'm belaboring the point. Let me just read. It comes with.
the heavy heart to share that I have resigned from Southern Charm. Yesterday, I informed Bravo that I
will not be participating in the two to three remaining Green Room interviews, remaining before season,
that's ZN, just if you're keeping track, before season airs 12-5. I've done about nine thus far leading up to
today, and that I no longer wish to participate in any ways moving forward with the TV show. I will leave it
that for now, while I work on next steps to recover both physically and mentally from what has
been an extremely challenging and exhausting year. Okay. First of all, I don't know exactly what this is about.
And so I want to extend, you know, best wishes and grace to J.T. on whatever he's going through,
because everyone has a story, as Kathy Leigh Gifford used to sing for us on the table.
Today show. Um, but there are some things about this that are just like a little bit funny to
me. And it's clear that he, it's clear to me that he's doing this on his own because there are
just like, first of all, green room interviews. Like, does you mean green screen? Because they
tape them in front of a green screen. They're like confessionals, interviews, whatever. He,
so he has two to three remaining. He's filmed about nine. Obviously, the entire. Obviously, the entire
season has already been filmed because it premieres 12-5, as he says.
So, like, just in terms of pure timeline shit, we're not going to notice this watching the show.
Maybe there will be scenes toward the end of the season that they might have inserted
some of JT's, like, perspective from the confessionals, and they won't have that, so they'll have to
kind of like edit it differently, but like we will not be able to tell watching this season
that JT has resigned, which first of all, resign is a very, resign is a funny word to use
because it's like, okay, like it's not a, it is a job. Obviously it's a job, but like it's not,
you're not like going to the Southern Charm offices every day and clocking in for your shift.
Like, you're just on the show.
And I don't, I don't know, like, contractually even.
This is something that I think is very unusual.
We've had people not show up to a reunion.
But it's quite rare that I can think of for somebody to announce after the season has been filmed,
but before it airs, that they are removing themselves from participation.
So I imagine he will do no press for this season.
I imagine he won't post about it anymore on social media unless there's something he wants to address.
He won't be on watch what happens live.
He won't go to the reunion.
He won't go to those last two or three green room interviews that we're really going to miss.
It's just, it's a strange, it's strange timing to make an announcement that is in and of itself quite vague.
And in the, in the trailer for this season, you know, we see some stuff.
of JT maybe having an issue with Madison.
He and Austin got into it last season.
I don't know kind of where they stand.
There's a weird, I mean, the scene that kind of made the biggest impact from the trailer
with him is that he and Venita are seemingly like in some sort of like courtship situation,
which is awkward and surprising and it's just like a little bit like what's happening in
the world.
And there was, after this trailer came out, I think a lot of people sort of clocked this
thing with him in Venita and were like, what's going on?
and a woman came forward on social media alleging that she and JT were seeing each other while
this season was being filmed, thus kind of planting the seed that maybe the thing with him and
Vinita is like sort of just a storyline, which like, okay, fork found in kitchen, a date that
is happening on the show might not be super real.
Like I, like, what do you want me to say?
I don't know anything like damning about JT, but at the same time I also am not that like
attached to him.
So, look, I wish him the best.
It's strange timing and always, I think it's too bad when anyone, you know,
it doesn't seem like he had a great time doing the show, but also I always like people
to show up to the reunion because it just gives us the best chance at a well-rounded,
you know, productive reunion.
But like, okay, I wish him well.
And I mean that.
Like, not, I'm not Gwyneth Paltrow to the, to the ski instructor.
Like, I do wish him well.
And I, I don't know.
I'm excited to see this season of Southern Charm, though.
I have not watched the premiere yet, but I'm, I'm excited to get in there and, like,
maybe get some more details about this because it just, it feels a little bit,
it feels a little bit random.
Because, like, nobody's checking for JT.
Like, nobody, like, follows him on Instagram.
I had to, I only saw this because somebody sent it to me.

okay let's talk about New York
because I feel like
I feel like this is just like
the episode of me complaining. No, I don't, I haven't complained that much. I'm not, I didn't
complain about JT or Dubai. Okay, I just, I feel like the energy is complaining, but like the,
the substance isn't complaints. Um, but I'm going to complain. I'm going to complain about
Rebecca Minkoff because Rebecca Minkoff, to me, was a really, um, interesting addition to the cast
this season. When it was first announced or rumored or whatever, it's like, okay, so she's a
recognizable name, but more because of her company and her products and those little purses than because
of who she is as a person. So immediately off the bat, you're like, okay, the lady behind the bag
with the little clip in the front, what's going on under the surface? What are we going to find out
about the Rebecca Minkoff.
That's always, I think that's like a great, honestly, it's a good sort of casting template
where it's like somebody who has a well-known name, you recognize them, but you don't know
kind of what makes them tick.
Honestly, I think Jenna Lyons was kind of in that category.
You know, you could argue about how well it's worked out or not.
But then the Scientology thing comes up.
And I talked about this way back in the spring when they were still filming, that there
was some weirdness with her being a Scientologist.
and her family connections to Scientology and all of that.
And we were waiting to see if and how and when it would be brought up and handled on the show.
And earlier this season, we got that one mention when she was in the helicopter with, you know, with Brin.
And she was, it was kind of like, you know, wrong place, wrong time, whatever.
It's a weird topic.
But then this week, she and Aaron are talking about it.
And this to me is where we can kind of say like, okay, now we have.
have seen how she's going to address this on the show, and we can kind of evaluate, like,
how that makes us feel. Well, I'll just speak for myself, how it makes me feel, because I'm the
only one here. So, you know, let me know in a five-star review how you feel about Rebecca
Mankoff's Scientology. But I, it's, okay, to me, it is so textbook of when somebody is
involved in something that is controversial or perhaps unseemly or, you know, being, is something
that's being questioned, as Scientology is and has been for a long time, the tactic of
saying that it's not what people think it is and being adamant that people are wrong and suggesting
that people should educate themselves and learn for themselves and be curious.
curious and ask questions and, you know, look something up online or read a book or, as Rebecca
says in her confessional, watch the TV station about it. I don't even want to know what the TV
station about Scientology is. Like, what is it? Like, S-T-L-G Scientology TV. Like, that's what we're
supposed to go look up. And then the producer who's like, well, you say go read a book.
Obviously, the book that comes to mind is going clear, which I haven't read the book.
book going clear, but I've seen the documentary, which I think is on HBO. Great documentary, by the way.
Obviously, you know, I'm a suppressive person here, loud and proud. But I, and then she's like,
well, don't read that book. And it's like, well, then, babe, what book are we supposed to read?
Am I supposed to go get a copy of Dionetics and devour that before bed? Like, it is such a classic move
that it's like denying and deflecting and explaining that people just need to go educate themselves,
but she's not offering any of the education.
All she's doing is like diverting the attention away from what everybody has heard and what
everybody has been told.
And, you know, Leah Remini's out here beating the drum, whether you like her or not.
Like, she's like sharing information based on her experience.
And like, Rebecca's not offering any kind of compelling argument that Scientology isn't what everybody thinks it is.
She's just like shaking her head and giving a little coy smile and being like, well, it's a religion because anything can be a religion.
So like going to SoulCycle for you could be a religious experience.
And it's like, yeah, but SoulCycle's not fucking tax exempt.
I mean, as far as I know, unless they've changed their status recently, it's just.
just, it's so, um, this is exactly what you would expect from somebody who is a lifelong
Scientologist going on a show like this and being asked about Scientology. Like, she's doing,
she's doing the playbook exactly as it's written. And like, I, I, I respect that Aaron is in a, a
strange position in that scene and that she's like, in the confessional, she's saying it's hard for her
to understand, but like, whatever. And I think that, it's, I think that, it's,
the Judaism connection and balance with Scientology is very interesting and, you know,
sort of clearly hard for Rebecca to explain in a way that makes sense.
But it's like, yeah, she's doing exactly what we would have predicted she would do.
And like, I hope that this isn't the end of us talking about that and questioning it.
And I'm like, I would love for Andy to kind of grill her about that at the reunion.
I don't know that that's going to happen.
I don't know how it would go if it did happen.
but like I think it's okay to call someone on their bullshit sometimes.
And it's, it's bullshit.
And that's not the only bullshit that Rebecca Minkoff is trying to sell us on this week
because this fucking pregnancy prank.
Oh my God.
Watching the episode, even before that little, that little like giggly moment at the end
where she and Aaron are like, that was good, good acting, blah, blah, blah.
when we were just watching it unfold and it seemed like it might be something real,
I already like didn't care or didn't quite buy it because it felt so outlandish
that Aaron's just showing up at lunch with Jessel and Brandon is like,
I heard that she's pregnant and it's not her husband's.
It's from this one night stand and she's crazy and that's why she's not drinking.
And that's why it's super early and she's super stressed.
It's like, that's like too much, it's like too flawless of a rumor to actually be true.
And of course, like, it could be true.
But like, it's not true.
And it, it didn't ring true for me.
Even if I didn't necessarily say, oh, this is a prank that she and Aaron cooked up.
It didn't, it didn't, it didn't sit right with me.
And then watching it sort of spread throughout the episode from this lunch to this dodgeball game,
which why on God's Green are we playing dodgeball on a Housewives show in 2024?
Like, it's bad enough that this show is like not firing on all cylinders in terms of like relationships and storyline.
And then you're going to make me watch a dodge ball game where we're like keeping score on the screen for several minutes of this episode as if like who cares, who even knows what dodgeball scoring is?
they have the little tracker of how many hours.
It's like the last time I played dodgeball was like fifth grade.
I was going to say, oh, that's like a middle school gym activity.
No, that's a elementary school gym activity.
By middle school, we were playing like flag football.
And I hated every second of it.
And I didn't understand the rules at the time.
I was like, what is it down?
I just, oh my God.
The dodge ball of it all, I can't even go there.
But at the dodge ball game, it's like before Aaron gets there,
all talking about how Rebecca is pregnant and she's, you know, she's screwing other guys and her husband
doesn't even care and they just are willy-nilly and he doesn't care that she's pregnant by another man.
And it's like, that is so ridiculous.
The idea that Rebecca Minkoff and her husband are, I mean, having an open relationship,
whether it's swinging as the secret lives of Mormon wives would say, or whether it's, you know,
going on dates with other people or polyamry, whatever.
do whatever the fuck you want.
But the idea that she would get pregnant from a one-night stand and her husband would just
be like totally chill about it.
It's like, what planet are we on?
And then, you know, Aaron shows up, but she's like, oh my God, Brian, you told them?
And she's like making these faces in the confessional.
It's like fucking soap opera shit in the worst way.
And then at the end, you know, Jenna trying to be a good friend, I guess, is like tipping
Rebecca off that people are talking about her and then she's this whole charade of being mad at
Aaron. It's just so much. And then to get that little hint at the end that it's a prank,
it feels like a slap in the face to all of us. Because it would be one thing if this show had
a million different things going on and everybody had their own storyline and there were
complicated relationships and, you know, there was a lot to look at. And on the side, it's like,
oh, by the way, we're going to do this funny little thing. That pretty. That pretty,
Pregnancy storyline is the only interesting thing that happened this episode.
Aside from that, all I have to look at is whether I am supposed to be mad that Jenna said that Jessel's a basic bitch.
What year is it? Who cares?
And then it was kind of the cherry on top.
I already would have had lots of thoughts about this episode.
But then watch what happens live.
Starts right after.
It's Andy with Cy and Jeff Lewis.
Lewis, his residence seat in the clubhouse, like, every three weeks, it seems like. And the first
thing that Andy says when Watch What Happens Live starts is, I don't love a prank. You know,
it's just, and Cy's like, yeah, I get it. And Jeff is like, pranks to me ruin the trust that the audience
has in the cast, and it's overproducing, it's self-producing, it's too much. And I so agree. And I don't
think of myself as somebody who's like anti-prank in general.
Like, I don't get a lot of glee out of watching a prank, but also I'm not like,
I'm not anti-prank.
But thinking about this show, thinking about this new Rony and how much pranks have, like,
factored in, like the whole thing of last season when Uba's phone was hidden and then that
became a huge thing. And then already this season, we had the fake cockroach and Jenna's Pavlova.
And it was like, who cares? You guys are like 40 years old. Get a life, first of all. Get a storyline.
Second of all. And then this episode, I mean, this prank is a little different because it's not like a practical joke. It's like a planted fake storyline.
line. And the one kind of explanation I can think of where, like, would be, would make sense is, like, if Rebecca
and Aaron felt like there was somebody in the group who they couldn't trust, somebody in the group who was,
like, a rat or a mole or whatever, and they were, like, strategically trying to find the source of a leak,
of a rumor. I mean, think about what happened with reality von T's.
on Salt Lake City last season.
Like, that would be a situation where I could have seen them coming up with a fake
rumor to give to Monica to try and sort of be the smoking gun.
But this is just like messy.
And like within the span of one episode, this thing that Aaron, you know, told Jessel
and Bryn, like, I guess semi-inconfidence, but also she looked giddy when she was telling them.
Of course it's going to circulate around the group because Brin and Sye.
and Jessel and everybody's going to tell everybody.
It doesn't feel like this was like done with a purpose.
It feels like it was done to just like have something to do.
And that is where we're really running into issues here, where we're like seven episodes into the season eight maybe.
And like this is all we have to do.
And that is like not, it's not a healthy place for a housewives franchise to be in.
And don't even get me started on that fucking Rebecca Minkoff wicked collaboration.
I mean, first of all, the product placement is is not.
is not giving here. I mean, think back to some of the excellent, ridiculous, but excellent,
you know, marketing synergy we've had on Housewives and Bravo shows in the past.
Like, we've had some really funny ones. And this one was just, it was weak. You know,
Cy and her daughter going to the Rebecca Minkoff showroom, which, first of all, I think,
I feel like this, maybe I'm like tin foil hat here. I think that they, like,
rented out that space just for the show and like made it look like it was Rebecca's office or something,
because I'm like, this is, this looks like a warehouse. But then she's showing off these wicked
collaboration bags and she's like explaining how they design them. And she's like, this, this,
you know, the braided crystals in the handle was inspired by the, the Elphabas broomstick. And it's like,
first of all, Elphabas broomstick is like made out of wood and twigs. And this evening bag, which first of all,
It looks like if you asked like a 12-year-old girl to say like, if you were wearing a princess dress and you wanted an evening bag to go with it, it looks like what she would imagine as the evening bag.
It's like so, I mean, to each their own, but it's ugly.
And this like crystal like knotted, ropey little looking handle.
I looked up that bag.
Guess how much it is?
Okay.
Pause one, two, three, while you guess, $298.
Who's buying that?
It looks like something that would be on like deep discount clearance at T.J. Max.
And like, it probably won't be.
Like, go to T.J. Max in a month.
You'll get it for 12.
Like, 12.95.
I don't know.
That's 74.95 at least.
$2.98.
What the fuck?
Also, I'm sorry.
You're doing a wicked collaboration, which,
First of all, join the club.
I walked to work.
I'm like, okay, Aldo has a wicked collaboration.
Swarovsky has a wicked collaboration.
I just got, you know, as I was like putting together the outline for this episode,
I was on a website where there was a whole banner ad takeover of some Bloomingdale's
wicked collaboration.
You know, they've got popcorn.
They've got everything.
So like, okay, congrats Rebecca on getting the wicked collab.
There's not one green item.
There's a pink bag.
There's a black bag.
there's like an ugly brown bag maybe that's inspired by the grimery.
It's like, please.
Where's the green?
I'm sorry.
I got to get off my soapbox at this point.
I got to go eat something.
I feel like I'm going to like lose my mind here if I talk about Rebecca Minkoff for one more second.
But can I just say, Rebecca Minkoff, it's enough.
And this episode, you know, she's a friend.
of. She's not a housewife.
You know, I'm loving
Raquel, our new housewife this season. I wish we were
getting more of her. She and
Mel seem really cool. And
Abe and Mel have a fun
friendship. Rebecca Minkoff,
it's enough. And I
don't...
If this is what we have in store for the rest
of the season, oh boy, it's going to be a long
season. But I hope that we can
kind of like... I hope that this is a low
point and we can like move
up from here, but oh boy.
don't know. Okay. Well, that's what we have for today. Thursday, I'm excited to get back in here
and talk about Salt Lake City some more and maybe a little, maybe a little bit of catch up on
the OC reunion and lots more to come, I'm sure. But thank you for listening. Don't forget to
