Episode Date: March 10, 2026On this Tuesday episode, Dylan is joined by Golnesa & Tanin from The Valley: Persian Style for a finale-time catch up that feels like the group is truly back. They talk why this cast dynamic feels mor...e authentic than what we’ve seen before, the Persian culture and Farsi moments that make the show hit different, and why calling Mercedeh “Mercedeh” actually matters. They also get into MJ and Tommy’s marriage turmoil, why Golnesa’s relationship with Dennis is “hot and cold”, hiring people according to their astrological sign. Plus, Golnesa and Tanin break down the Skye spiral, the “beneath me” energy, and why some people really need to read the room. everyone, welcome back to the Mentioned-Dol podcast. I have so been enjoying the Valley Persian
style this season. So we're finishing things off with two of our lovely ladies from the show,
Golnessa and Tannen. Welcome, ladies. How are you? Good. Great. Thanks for having us. I am so glad
to chat with you. I've been loving the season. I've been hearing from everybody else who's
loving the season. And it's been so fun. We've had Mersida and Reza earlier in the season and now
things are are wrapping up. And it's, it's been a time. It's been a good time. Can I
I start with the fact that I am so appreciative that you called her Mercedes and you called
Miguel Nasa.
That was so kind of you.
Well, when she was here, we were talking about sort of the evolution from MJ, Mercedes,
and kind of that journey with her name.
And I think one thing that I have really loved, and this was present in Shaz too, but I think
especially in this show is the way that the Persian culture and the Farsi and all of that is
like integrated within it in the titles and in the, you know, when you guys are speaking,
it's like the translations, it feels so like fluidly integrated.
Part of us.
Yeah, it is.
I mean, some of us, unfortunately, can't speak the English language very well,
and they have no choice but to speak their native tongue, which is beautiful as well.
But, you know, we all try to intertwine our culture as much as we can because it is a part of who we are.
Yeah.
Well, I think also, so we were talking before you moved to L.A. like 15 years ago.
Yes.
And you guys basically met each other right after that.
So, I mean, that community runs really deep.
It really does.
Yeah.
It does.
Yeah, it's very clicky in so many ways.
Very mean.
Sometimes.
Yeah.
I'm curious for you, Tannen, because so obviously Shaz of Sunset was on for, you know, a decade, basically.
And it was kind of spotlighting this Persian community in L.A.
How aware were you of that show and sort of the, you know, conversation.
around it while it was happening.
I mean, I knew most of them throughout.
So, and I've been on some of the, you know, filming that they did.
So I've been pretty involved.
I haven't actually fully seen every single episode because sometimes I get, like, stressed
out.
But, yeah, no, I mean, I've, I've definitely been part of the journey and the, you know,
back end.
It is funny.
I mean, just so now we've seen you over the course of like 15 years on TV.
and the growth and the roller coaster and everything that's happened.
What is it like for you kind of thinking back and having that, you know,
archive of all this stuff that you've gone through in your life?
It's nostalgic.
It's very nostalgic, especially when I have these big Bravo events like BravoCon
or when I just see all the other housewives and you see the level of respect that they give
to me as an OG on Bravo.
So it's definitely nostalgic to come back.
Yeah.
And sort of for the first time, feel the level of where I'm at with Bravo.
Like, oh, wow.
Like, I'm really getting praised for the first time.
You know, I mean, they're still the haters.
But, you know, it's very different now.
It's a different love.
Yeah.
Well, I think when I've talked to Merson Reza about it, too, like, the idea that when
Shah's kind of wound down and you guys were off our screens for a few years,
that there always was that sort of drumbeat of like, what are we doing with this group?
where what's the next chapter and that,
you know,
Alex Baskin with the Valley and putting that all together.
Like it really feels like we found the,
the right next chapter versus just like continuing with something that maybe wasn't,
didn't have the legs.
I mean,
I think Shaw's had a really good run.
Yeah.
I think we could have had another one or two seasons with that dynamic.
But it was a very painful dynamic at one point.
It became inauthentic.
with our friendships, it was almost like we wanted to part ways with some of these people as friends
and we were sort of stuck with having to face each other all the time because this was our life.
You know, our cameras are just there and we are doing what we're doing. And it's kind of hard
when you just want to be like, I don't want to fuck with that person, Mike's shoehead anymore.
You know what I mean? So it's like, it's hard. So it's kind of for me, I was so happy to be out with the old and like in with new.
my real friends, long-time friends, good people.
New energy as a show, but it's kind of like the old energy that you've always had in your life.
And, you know, knowing you guys have known each other for so long, everybody on the show has these like decade-plus connections.
It feels like we're sort of just like honing in on something that has existed even when we weren't watching it.
I mean, Shaw's was definitely about Persians living in Los Angeles, right?
It was our huge, affluent lifestyle, our glamorous lifestyle, our over-the-top lifestyle.
So that dynamic still exists, I think, even with the Valley Persian style.
Yeah.
Or also it wouldn't have been called Persian style because that's how we live, right?
It just feels really authentic and like we're just all have known each other.
These are these gatherings or get-togethers are like this is what we would do off or on camera.
So it doesn't really feel, it feels natural.
Yeah.
It's been really interesting to watch with you, with the three of you that were on Shaz together.
It feels like you guys have come such a long way in terms of when you have disagreements or when you are calling each other out on something, being able to sort of like deal with the situation and then come back as friends versus something, you know, something like your, you know, living situation this season or Maers working with your sister in a way that was challenging.
but then it's like, that's not going to be a whole season of now we're not speaking.
How have you kind of navigated those relationships both on and off camera to get to a place
where it's like, no, it's better when we can be friends?
I have a hard time.
Well, I did have a hard time with Mers.
After the cameras were down, she and I were not in a good place at that point.
So it was very easy for me to say, I don't think this relationship was going to be.
going to work out anymore. Her husband hates me. I don't like him very much. Now I'm very close
with Reza. Adam's always been my best friend and he doesn't like them. So it was sort of easy for us to
be like, well, you know, we'll talk to you once a month or something. But once the marriage started
going through, you know, turmoil for Maris, we started seeing her a little bit more and more.
And it's hard to say this and I hate that I'm about to say this, but it's like the shit.
shit she was going through with Tommy to where she is today almost made her a better person.
And like it's easier to want to be with her now.
We're besties again.
You know, we're just giggly.
We do girl talk every day on FaceTime.
So it's just really good to have her back.
But with Reza, it's the same.
We got so close once cameras went down.
You can't get near these relationships.
I feel we're family.
Yeah.
I think it's been challenging watching this season, feeling and seeing what she was going through.
Yeah.
Yeah. And some of it, obviously, you guys could all see. I mean, the scene when the school calls and is like, Shams is sitting in the office was like, what do you, what do you even say in that moment? It's, it's so challenging. But then also, there's a layer that's only, you know, only in her house. Only she knows about it. She can only, you know, she's sharing what she chooses to. And it does feel like, you know, even, you know, seeing her a couple months ago, like there is this like lightness and this, you know, I think Reza says like the sparkle.
you know, that kind of thing.
Like, it feels like she's doing good.
Yes.
You and I were just talking about this the other day with that scene where we were getting
Botox with Naira.
It was so like I literally get the chills every time I think about it because the needle
was like two seconds from her skin as the phone started ringing.
And it was just so I'm a mom.
So I know that gut feeling.
And I know one of her biggest issues was trusting Tommy to do pick up or drop off.
and for her to leave that responsibility with him one time.
Yeah.
And that happened.
She and I were like, it was, I think, honestly,
and this is probably the only time I've ever seen,
our camera people really be feeling for her.
They were trying to be aware, not like shove the cameras in her face,
but it was so real.
And I'm so proud of her for not stopping the cameras,
for allowing the world to just continue to see that.
It was rough.
It didn't register as it was happening because it was so crazy.
We were filming and it literally, she got the call.
Like it almost feels like it wasn't real.
And but yeah, she was, it was nice for her to open up that way.
And I feel like it made her kind of open up to us or maybe me more because you were probably more a part of everything that was going on.
But that was kind of the beginning of the end.
I think it's hard when you, when somebody is in a situation like that, there is always kind of that.
push and pull of there's some stuff I want to open up about, but then I don't know, you know,
then people are going to have feedback and I don't know if I'm ready for that.
Yeah.
You know, in the finale with the conversation she has with Reza of like, you know, maybe there
are some lines that you're overstepping and talking about my relationship.
Whereas then once you decide that it's like, okay, the relationship is done.
Now maybe a little bit of that was kind of me projecting my, you know, what I was going through.
I did an episode for Jeff Lewis's podcast a couple months ago with.
with Maris and Jeff Lewis just hit the nail on the head.
He said to Maris, he goes, are you afraid of Tommy?
Is that why you never left?
Is that why you never talk about it?
Is that why you don't express and vent and call him an asshole for once?
Just say it, you know, like fuck.
But, you know, I do think that was it.
And now I'm watching the show along with the whole world and I'm seeing their scenes.
Yeah.
He's so intense.
God bless that therapist.
Yeah.
was like, you have anger issues, you know, he's like, people with a guy have anger issues.
She's like, uh, you do.
Yeah.
I was like, yes.
And you could see, MJ was like validate.
She's like, mm.
Yeah, for sure, for sure.
Yeah.
Poor girl.
She went through a lot.
I know.
Well, and I think also just the idea of like all these events that she was coming to on
her own.
And there's nothing wrong with being, you know, solo.
I mean, obviously like you're crushing it on this season.
Yeah, you're single.
No, but like.
By choice.
my husband's lingering somewhere else.
Exactly.
And I think like seeing the husbands and the men on this show, they do add a really important
part to the dynamic and, you know, seeing Sky and Bomchad and how they're handling things
differently or, you know, with Natasha and Amir, like that is such a complicated thing that
we've really, I feel like they've been so open about it.
And so it's hard when it feels like there's sort of one person in the group that isn't
kind of willing to, you know, buy in the same way.
Yeah, I mean, she was going through that with, I mean, it felt like it was something that
she wanted, you know, for some people it might have been like she would have been okay
with it, but I feel like she really wanted his presence and support.
So it was hard for us to, for her to not have that.
He's too busy editing his podcast.
Which is technically only existent because of MJ being famous.
So he's only relied on her to.
do anything, but then he would never do anything for her.
Yeah.
It's, that's really where it's fucked up.
Yeah.
You know, he sits around and just, yeah, he plays his fantasy football.
He has his baseball leagues.
You know, he sits around, belly gets bigger.
MJ works harder, gets prettier, skinnier, you know, more successful.
That's a recipe for divorce.
When you see any one person in a relationship getting hot is fucked.
And the other one's just getting, you know...
She looks good.
She looks so good.
She looks so good right now.
I mean, you guys also like you guys across the board, one of the most beautiful casts.
We really are.
I think.
We really are.
I mean, like, it's a good looking group.
Thank you.
Everybody looks good.
I do, I want to talk about Sky because the second half of this season, especially, it's just like every interaction.
I'm just like...
What's your take on?
I would love to hear.
Well, so I talked to Reza after the Palm Springs trip had been airing.
And to me, it was just surprising for somebody who has chosen to participate in this, in the group, in the show, in the whole experience to really seem like she didn't like you guys very much or want to be there.
And I know that you guys had sort of different, like you were closer with her coming into the season where I think you guys were kind of budding heads from the beginning.
I didn't know we were butting heads.
Sure, sure, sure.
Apparently she was budding heads in her interviews and I had no idea.
When you guys had your lunch that was kind of the last, you know, real attempt, I guess, like, for someone to say, like, no, they are beneath me, like, I'm, they're lower than me.
Like, why, like, why are you here?
What's the, what are we doing?
Yeah, I think that's probably the most feedback I get from my friends to that watch it.
that they're like, what if she, like, if she hates it so much, maybe it's not healthy for her to be around, you know?
So, yeah, we don't know.
I mean, you would have to ask her why.
I'm assuming we haven't been keeping in touch much with her lately.
I couldn't get more far away from her if I, you know, wanted, I don't know where I can go to get away from her.
I don't know. I don't know.
I, honestly, like every episode I watch, again, we're watching.
along with you guys. And I'm just like, wow, she really hates us. Yeah. Like any chance she gets.
Well, I think too, like the specific part about the like supporting businesses and things like that.
Like all of you guys are entrepreneurial. All of you guys have different projects going on.
Like I think that it's something that is natural both like as a as a friend in someone's life,
but also as somebody who is also working on a business that it's like, yeah, I'm going to wear the jewelry.
I'm going to, you know, I'm going to, you know, you have your stuff going on with the diamonds and the, the, the, ex-stores. Intimately. And you have your skin care. Like, all of those, every, when everybody is doing well, everybody's doing well. Like, it's, it, a rising tide lifts all boats. Yeah. I want all of us to win. And I think, you know, we are a very, like, tight-knit community. And that's really, like, a part of just this friendship. And I think just getting the support for all of us is really imperative. And so, um, so, um, so yeah. I'm not sure if she's.
doing well, to be honest with you, the cost of diamonds is dropping every day in the market
value. Nobody wants blood on their hands. The lab-grown diamonds are really changing the market.
Absolutely. So I already changed the market. Valley Girl diamonds is where it's at. You know,
it's completely flawless. It's beautiful, you know, certified. We don't have blood on our hands.
Nobody had to get hurt in the mix, you know, so.

What has it been like, obviously, you know,
we see in the season you're navigating this kind of next phase of your relationship with Dennis,
both in business and, you know, in life.
How has that been going the last, you know, six months or so since filming?
Well, the last six months have been going like the last 14 years, which has just been hot and cold.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah. I mean, that's my best friend over there.
Yeah.
So she knows she's been around through it all from Dennis being around.
You know, Dennis is just, yeah, he's a Libra, you know.
He's a Libra.
What can I say?
He just wants everything for himself at a cost.
But I love him.
He's my family.
Yeah.
I also hate him.
It's one of those things.
These two are up and down all the time.
Yeah.
Well, I thought it was so interesting watching when he showed up in Palm Springs all the different reactions from the group.
Because I think for, I mean, obviously Dennis has been in your life for a very long time.
But in terms of the marriage and that chapter of it, that happened.
between shows. And so we didn't, you know, we weren't there for all of it. And I think it also
speaks to how tight-knit you are all as a group, how strong people had feelings about that.
Yes. The way that Reza felt about that, the way that Adam felt about that. Like, you can really
see like, oh, no, these people have like a personal connection to this situation. I mean,
I think if you were close to me while that marriage situation did happen in the aftermath,
if you were close to me, it was impossible to not be affected in some capacity because it was a
very brutal situation. I might be rough around the edges and I might pop off, but there's a
certain level of morale that I have in my life. And I just feel like everything that I've ever
known about that was just stomped on. It was beyond my beliefs that people were capable of
hurting this much. So, um, they're.
were my best friends and they saw me hurting and they saw that. So I feel grateful that they took
on those feelings. That means that they cared. You know. Yeah. And then it's, but then it's like if you're
going in a different direction with the feelings after a couple of years, then it's hard to get
every being on board. Well, Dennis and I are always going to be like this. And that's just one thing that,
you know, like, res is sad. It's like, I'm best to just follow wherever goldness says wind is taking me
with Dennis. It's so true. If she's cool today, I'm cool today. If she's not tomorrow, I'm not
more. So yeah. I feel like that's, I mean, that's just like life and like adult friendships. I think,
I think something that both additions of the Valley have shown so well is that kind of like adult
relationships when people have, you know, priorities in their life with kids and marriages and everything.
It's, you know, navigating those things is challenging and it doesn't always necessarily make sense
the same way to everyone that's watching. Yeah. And then that times like 20 is hard.
I wonder for you guys when you think about, obviously, you know, you've filmed this first season of this show and it's coming out and I think people are enjoying it.
When you think about potentially doing a next season, like what do you think about wanting to show or something that you feel like you could, you know, bring to a season two?
You know what? I want her lean back game to stop.
What?
You're lean.
What does that mean?
She loves to lean.
I do. I'm comfortable.
I'm watching every episode I watch.
She's in the, she's in the interviews like this leaning in the house.
I love how comfortable you feel.
Yeah, thank you.
I feel like, oh.
I feel like you have.
You look better this way.
Oh, I love you.
I feel like you have a very like breezy, like a very like light and like, I don't know,
you have a great vibe.
Oh, thank you.
See?
And this one is just like, no, yeah.
She has a boss vibe.
She's always had that.
That's why I'm always a little scared of her.
Like cool, calm, collected.
Yeah, but like, she's a Scorpio.
By the way, for someone who mentions signs,
she's the Sagittarius, which is like the worst of all.
I'm the ultimate.
God's given sign is Sagittarius.
Her husband's a Sagittarius.
Yeah, it's a disaster.
It's amazing.
That's why we're besties, he and I.
I love how much you're, like, tapped into, like,
knowing everyone's sign.
It's imperative.
It's absolutely imperative.
I have friends that will only have,
only hire like certain receptionists or workers or something based on their signs.
Oh my God.
No, it's serious.
Okay.
It's very serious.
Okay.
So what are you?
What is like the trouble sign to you?
Like is there like, Sagittarius.
Sagittarius.
Yeah.
So if you see another Sagittarius coming, you're like, I don't know if we're going to.
I get along very well with Sagittarius.
I get along with mostly all the signs.
Sagittarius can get along kind of with everybody.
Okay.
But we also don't take shit from anybody.
Yes.
All of us.
Yes.
And we're very weird.
Yeah.
What's the worst one?
What's the worst sign for you?
I don't know what you people are in this room.
I don't want to say it.
I'm going to say Pisces or Aries.
Like, Arias, maybe, yeah.
Perfect.
No, I love it, though.
And I think, like, having different vibes and different energies in a group like this,
I mean, it's such an ensemble show.
And I think it's like, you need to have a lot of different personalities.
but at the same time, like, everybody has to be able to kind of like play nice at the right time.
It's like we got all signs covered on the show.
I was talking to Reza.
It's been so fun to see Adam kind of more central to the group.
But I know that you guys have such a close relationship.
What has it been like kind of, I mean, not that you weren't before, but like now that he is
kind of an equal participant in the show that you're making together.
It's for me a relief.
Yeah.
Because I know Adam and I know in reality, like with the Shaw's stuff, he's such a huge force
in that marriage that it didn't get portrayed like that in Shaz's of Sunset.
So I love that you guys get to really see more of him and their dynamic.
And I hope, because he gets a little shy.
You know, he's a simple boy from Oklahoma and he's married to this huge, you know, Leo and he's a star.
But when Adam gets in that zone, oh, honey, you can't shut him up.
But these days all we do is we talk about nuts because, you know, he has the pantry list, which his trail mix line is blowing up right now.
So all he talks about all day is packing nuts.
Okay.
Like, you should be happy.
You like nuts.
No, it's, it's been fun to watch kind of the like the evolution of his relationship with Reza.
And it feels like obviously not every day is going to be like easy and fun and happy.
But it feels like they have really grown together in their.
relationship and I mean it's crazy how long they've been together now I'm like it's been a long time
I mean I was there when he was sniffing and licking and licking armpits in the club on his
bachelorette night yeah on his bachelor's a bachelor's a bachelor's bachelor night yeah and we had to go
face Adam the next day oh my god it was we were also hung over I mean oh it was such a hot mess
Are there any of those like classic Shaws moments that people always are bringing up to you
or that you're like seeing on on social media a lot kind of reposted?
I'm still hell to the cross for season one, episode one, scene one, the first few words out
of my mouth, I don't like ants or ugly people.
And I still, to this day, the hater might like slip through and be like, you look like an ant.
I'm like, well, okay.
You're like, sure, if that's the worst you got for me.
So yeah, I still get held for that.
But as you see, all my friends are gorgeous.
Even though I wasn't talking about beauty, I was talking about ugly people like, you know, the blood diamond seller.
That's, that's the ugly I was talking about.
But physically, I mean, you see.
Do you think, like, when you think about the group, are there, do you have other people in your circle that you feel like would,
be great on this show that we haven't even met yet.
Girl, you better wait.
You better wait.
Hold your horses.
We have, in my mind, another 10, 15 seasons to come.
And I have a lot of friends and so does she.
So, perfect.
I'll set the DGR.
I'm ready to go.
We got to get like a reunion going.
Like, I think there's...
Talk to Alex Saskin.
It's such a minute.
Talk to Alex.
We don't, we just do what we're told when it comes to those type of things.
Exactly.
Exactly.
But next, next...
Not too many season.
When one shows get reunions in general, but this one needed it.
No.
But I think that's, you keep the people, you keep the people wanting more.
And I think even like I was thinking about it when I was, you know, watching the most recent
episode and, you know, the finale.
And it's like even in just nine episodes, it feels like there's been so much ground covered.
And I feel like with, with you and all the other new people in the in the cast, I feel like
I have gotten to know such specific pieces about your lives and things that I feel.
feel like there you could have nine episodes of a show where it's like oh I guess that was like
that was fun but it feels like we've really like covered some stuff yeah yes yes we covered a lot
and I know it could have been even a lot more but there's just so many of us I'm you know capturing
everything that's happening is so hard to do but yeah there was there was everything was
there was a lot covered yeah I mean it was a first season you know and I feel like with so many
new characters and personalities and lives it's so hard
like she said to really get that time to digest everyone's stuff like the amyar natasha stuff like
that's so deep yeah it was so deep you know and then we kind of go into the you know gregg and tanning stuff
and their relationships up but as deep as all these situations were there's so much more to it in which
I'm not going to say if I'm going to say when we have a season two right I think each of these little bits that you guys all got from season one will
probably start playing their selves out more. Yeah. And then by like BravoConn 2027,
we'll have a whole. I can't wait for her to be there. We'll have a whole Valley. I can't wait.
I was talking to Maris about this that you guys have been at every Bravo con up front,
BravoCon. And it was so nice at this most recent one to be able to say there's a new show.
Yeah. It's coming out soon. And like it's real and we're we're back. I know. The
announcement was just bizarre, the amount of love and fan appreciation was really outside of what I was expecting.
Yeah.
But it's nice.
Yeah.
I mean, I think when people have spent nine, you know, a decade plus with, with you guys, it's like people feel like they're, they're part of the community.
Absolutely.
People want more.
They know that the drama is there, whether the cameras are or not.
Absolutely.
That's the real.
Absolutely.
They're like, I know something's going down each of D's life.
There's something always going on.
And right now I'm not getting to see it.
Well, why do you think I'm on a reality show?
Exactly.
Exactly.
Well, it's been such a pleasure to watch this season.
Congratulations.
And we'll stay tuned for more.
Yes, thank you so much.
