Starting point is 00:00:41 And Barry Rosenfeld. I need to start drinking alcohol. Now go to sleep, we. Hey, everyone. Welcome back to another episode of the Mentioned All podcast. I'm Dylan Hafer. And I'm Barry Rosenfeld. Happy Monday.
Starting point is 00:00:54 How's your weekend? You know, my weekend was good. It was very chill. the new season of the crown came out yesterday, which was occupying a lot of my time. I won a trivia night last night with some friends. You know, it's a productive weekend. It was actually for charity.
Starting point is 00:01:13 Oh, that's nice. Yeah, we raised money for UNICEF. They actually were like, it was weird. So it was like a required donation and then they were going to give us some of the money because we won. No, that's weird. It was like 20% of the money.
Starting point is 00:01:29 or something like you can keep it. That's like any time at like an auction or something where like you win not like the things you you bid for but when you win the money like it's a known thing that like you give the money back and it's like God I need that but other people need it more. I think the amount we were going to win was like $120 and there were six of us. So it's like please just keep the money. I remember when I was younger trick or treating in elementary school you would take home that UNICEF box, that orange UNICEF box, and you would bring it trick or treating with you.
Starting point is 00:02:03 And, you know, you would get candy and they would also put like pennies, whatever in there. And then you'd bring it back to school and that would be donated. I wonder if they do that still. They do still do that. It was been a while since I was in elementary school. Yeah, there was like some UNICEF education included in the trivia night. And trick or treat is their longest running fundraiser. Who knew?
Starting point is 00:02:24 Well, that's good to know. Well, my weekend was great too. and I spent some time outside and now I sound a little nasal. So I'm like, what the hell? I went, me and one of my friends went for an outdoor lunch yesterday, but because it was frigid, we sat at one of those tables that was indoor outdoor, like it was in the restaurant, but at the window. So I'm probably sick right now because it was like 40 degrees outside.
Starting point is 00:02:51 And like you're not supposed to do that. So it actually makes me really nervous that COVID cases. are skyrocketing so much right now because we're also getting into just the season where people get sick normally. Yeah. So I'm like, okay, so I'm going to go, what, have drinks when it's 50 degrees and windy outside and then expect to get a cold and then get a bar cart, Dylan. Get a bar cart, stock it that way. Your living space is the bar and you don't have to leave. It's like fabulous. That's true. I'm still. working my way through the coconut rum I got from Hannah G from The Bachelor.
Starting point is 00:03:34 Gross. Not Hannah, but like coconut rum, you know. Let's get into Real Housewives of Potomac, shall we? We shall. So obviously the women are still in Portugal, but last week in real time, they filmed their season five reunion, which they did in person. I'm very excited for that. Andy Cohen tweeted that they were taping for 11 hours, which every, I feel like that's not even like crazy long for Housewives reunion.
Starting point is 00:04:04 But every time I see how long their days are, I'm just like, that sounds awful. Well, because picture us, let's say we're at the office for 11 hours. That is too long. And also we're not in glam. Like imagine sitting in those outfits and done up. I cannot picture having makeup on my face for that long. I'm getting anxiety thinking of. about it. But we love an in-person reunion. Like for us, it's like a treat during quarantine. We're like,
Starting point is 00:04:31 yay. I believe there was like, I believe there were like a couple little kind of like sneak peek photos that surfaced of kind of the setup. It looks, you know, very like beautiful. I believe unlike New York, I think Andy is back in the middle. Like it's they, because New York, they kind of set it up like an oval. And I think this time Andy's in the middle and there's two sides, which I'm a fan of. Yeah, we need him. Well, by the way, seating in the reunions is like a thing. It's like an actual thing. So like when Andy's in the middle, we need to know who is sitting with who.
Starting point is 00:05:09 And for New York, I was like, this is a mess. I don't know who's fighting with who in real life. This is nuts. Yeah, I guess with New York, like, there weren't so much like two sides. It was a test. It was like everyone kind of had their little issues with each other. But there wasn't like a battle royale like there is. in Potomac, but also Tichala was at the reunion.
Starting point is 00:05:28 Andy finally got to meet him. Karen even posed for a picture with her little enemy. I'm excited for this reunion. I feel like it's going to be wild. Yeah. Let's talk about the episode because I also have a few things to talk about on watch it happens live last night because Candice was on with Hannah Burner, but she mentioned some things about Potomac. Okay, okay. Because Tichala, she goes, he goes, name three nice things about Tichala.
Starting point is 00:05:54 And she goes, no, thank you. We're like, I will not. It was like, I was like, it's a bird, Candace. What a tutelagy to Candace. Oh, my God. Guilty by association, I guess. So we pick up where we left off at the lunch, at the top of the mountain or whatever. Okay, so Karen is kind of like asking all these questions about Giselle posted some video outside of jewelry store and whatever.
Starting point is 00:06:20 And I feel like Karen is pulling a Kenya from, like, last season of Atlanta and trying to like ruin Robin's engagement surprise. Okay. But I agree because like if Karen knows like stop like you know why you want to ruin it. It's one thing you want to get back at Giselle, but why do you want to ruin it for Robin? Like that's so like not nice. But Giselle at that point is now looking for she's like, who else can I tell about this secret? She's always, Ashley's good at keeping secrets. No, can you keep a secret? Like don't tell anyone. Stop. people about this. It's a very special moment. And like, so she literally went and had a side conversation with Ashley and told her because she thought Karen was going to blow the secret.
Starting point is 00:07:02 But the more people you tell, the more chances of having out. Like I, I totally suffer from that as well. I'm the kind of person where it's like, you tell me a secret. And I'm like, okay, like, I can't, I can't like tell everyone, but I can tell like, I can find, I can like tell one person. I feel like it's just Karen being a little messy. Like I understand you want to, you know, you want to know what's going on with Robin's relationship. I think that's fine. But to specifically bring up the jewelry store, it's like you're getting a little too close to revealing information that Robin shouldn't know about yet. And I didn't have a problem with Giselle pulling Karen aside and being like, hi, please, please can we not?
Starting point is 00:07:48 I agree. I agree. Because like at that point, you shouldn't be told not to tell a secret. After you already know not to tell. Girl, winter is so last season. And now Springs got you looking at pictures of tank tops with hungry eyes. Your algorithm is feeding you cutoffs. You're thirsty for the sun on your shoulders. That perfect hang on the patio sundress.
Starting point is 00:08:15 Those sandals you can wear all day and all night. And you've had enough of shopping from your couch. Done hoping it looks anything like the thing. picture when you tear up on that envelope. It's time for a little in-person spring treat. It's time for a trip to Ross. Work your magic. What were your thoughts on this toboggan bootleg ride that they took down the mountain? Um, number one, I did not notice a seatbelt. So were you just gonna, could you just fly out? And also it literally was the, the movie Cool Runnings, but in heat. Like it was, so I was like, do those guys have?
Starting point is 00:08:54 to run this back up the hill too because that would suck. I don't know. I think there was like a rope across the front of it. Like I don't think it was like a seatbelt, but I think I noticed when they were getting in the guy had like a little like a little like rope that would hold you. Kind of like a roller coaster. Hold on hold you. Like are I would know. No. So I did this thing. I was on a family vacation in Germany when I was in like eighth grade or something and we went to a place we were kind of in like the the part of the Alps where it's not like mountains yet it's more just like hills kind of and we did a thing where there was like a little I don't know if it was a toboggan or like a luge or something where you're sitting it's like a metal track and you're like sitting on a
Starting point is 00:09:42 little cart and you're just like kind of you know like going down the hill but it's very controlled and that's what I was imagining when they said that they're not They're doing this thing down. And it's literally just like, basically it looks like a church pew that's on like some sliders. And like these guys did not look safe. Yeah, it did not look safe. It was very handmade and like and risky, I should say. But think about like your family vacation.
Starting point is 00:10:09 Think about all the things you did as like a child that you were like, what the fuck? Would you ever let your kids do that now? You'd be like, no, that was super dangerous. So like right now it's like, They're in another country. They want to try new things. But I and then you feel like those men are there to protect you. But like if that if they let go like goodbye.
Starting point is 00:10:29 I don't know if the men are there to protect you. Like it's. Oh, they're just there to steer. Karen yells that there she's like doing an Instagram story. And she's like, we're here in Portland. I like did a double take and I was like laughing because at that point, I feel like she truly didn't know. They were like Karen, Portugal.
Starting point is 00:10:49 She was like Portland. Oh, we're in Portugal. Like she. Karen could not point out on a map where they are right now. Like she has no concept. It made me a little sad that like they show the camera. They were all on their phones. And I was like, yeah, would we have done that too?
Starting point is 00:11:05 Yes. But as a viewer, it's different to see it. You're like, we enjoy. Well, actually they were probably like, this is my last moment on earth. Like I got it. I got a recording. One more Instagram story. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:14 But like I was like they were all on their phones. Like it was so, um, 2000. 20. I know. Okay, so moving on in that evening, they're going to dinner. They come down from the hotel. I have a couple, a couple like style notes. First of all, Giselle's ponytail is, it doesn't look right. And I usually don't like to make a big deal out of people's hair. It's just like it can be a touchy subject. but like the, it's not the right color. It's not the right texture. Like the ponytail.
Starting point is 00:11:53 It looks like she just tied it on with a string. It's the color that got me. I. You know what, though? Hair is fun. You can have so much fun with your hair. And I think that's what she was doing. But the thing about these women is they never, like, no one would ever be like,
Starting point is 00:12:14 Giselle, you got to like, that's not the, you know, like it doesn't, like, they don't do that. They don't even critique. They just don't even notice, I feel. I mean, she, she only packed one ponytail in the suitcase for Portugal. It's not like she can just go up and switch the color. No, but I'm saying, or like, don't, I don't know. I don't know. You're right. You know, I'm imagine she's like, like has the, like Erica Jane travels with hair extensions in her, in a, in a separate car. So like, you never know what other people travel with. Okay. Also, I just had to laugh. Karen came to dinner carrying the massive Chanel bag, which is one of those ones where it's like, that would be like your carry on bag. Like carry on. Like nothing was in it.
Starting point is 00:12:58 It's just flopping. It was bend it. Yeah. A soft-sided Chanel bag. And it's like everybody else has their cute little like dinner bags. She was like, shoot, I need a silver bag to go with this outfit. And like that was the only silver bag she owned. Like I would have won out and bought like a $20 clutch or something.
Starting point is 00:13:14 know why that stuff got to me so much, but I'm like, you're going to, like, dinner at a nice restaurant with, like, the most humongous bag in the world. Yes, I did notice that, too. Do you have any other styling? Those were my main two. I thought, for the most part, everyone looked cute. Yes. A styling thing that I noticed, we will get there, though, to the prank is when Giselle said
Starting point is 00:13:42 she has to go upstairs because she had a. wardrobe malfunction yet nothing was wrong with her outfit like at that point was like the women would be like I see what you're wearing like nothing's wrong with it so I actually thought that was funny because she could have said like anything like I need to take my shoes I need to change my shoes I need to like go to the bathroom she's like I have a wardrobe malfunction but like her dress was intact yeah joselle is not a very convincing liar I feel like um but so we get to dinner definitely the main conversation at dinner revolves around kids and Ashley. So Candice shares that she finally feels ready to have a child and everyone is,
Starting point is 00:14:20 you know, obviously excited for her. This has been an ongoing thing for a couple years. She feels like she's finally there. Except Ashley is not so excited. And she brings up, which I had almost forgotten about this because it feels so in the past. Ashley brings up how last year when she talked about her miscarriage, Candice was asking all these questions and was kind of implying, if not directly saying that she didn't believe Ashley was telling the truth and sort of making fun of Michael for being emotional about it and basically just saying a lot of nasty things. And Ashley is saying that she, you know, is having trouble being excited for Candice or whatever because she still feels like there's this issue from the past.
Starting point is 00:15:09 Well, you can see by Ashley's body language at this dinner and any other time they have a conversation. Like Ashley's a fun, giddy person. And with Candace, she just, she has something like for her. Like she doesn't and she's vocal about it. But it's like you're right, she can't get past the things that she said. Because let's be real. Regardless of which side, that's a touchy subject for anybody to talk to about someone else. So I see Ashley's side 100%, but now it's like I kind of see Candice, though, because like she is ready.
Starting point is 00:15:46 She doesn't, she doesn't know what it's like unless she is going through it. So now that she's saying that she's ready, I don't, I kind of have just like a soft spot. Yeah, I will say I kind of agree. I sort of see both sides to this. I thought Candice's response was not great. to how because the thing is regardless of whether or not you feel like it should be in the past Ashley's bringing it up right now and she's sitting across the table from you she's someone that you know and have a history with it would have been so easy for Candice to just say you know
Starting point is 00:16:25 again like we've talked about this again I'm really sorry you know I I maybe didn't realize or didn't understand at the time but like basically just say I hope we can move on but like I'm am very sorry and you I hope you know that but instead Candice just kind of ignores what Ashley is saying and just says well I don't want to rehash the past and it's like she says that a few times and I get I again like I understand the idea that she feels like why are we doing this again but Candice just can't do the obvious thing that would diffuse the situation she has to be kind of like a little combative and it's like it would have been so easy to just be like Ashley again I'm so so so sorry.
Starting point is 00:17:09 I mean, we see this on franchise after franchise. Of course, it would be so easy for the person to be like, I'm sorry, let's move on. That will never happen. I can count maybe on like a hand how many times that's happened for anyone to what. Like even I know this is a terrible thing to say like even if you don't mean it, say it. But like it is true just to make it easier even on a trip. And then here's an idea. oh my god, I'm being like a peacemaker.
Starting point is 00:17:38 When you get home from the trip, maybe just go to like coffee or something and be like, hey, I got to get things off my chest. Like I think that you and I should just talk about this one on one. Oh my God. Should I host a reunion? If Andy's ever not sick. Like, yeah, if he's sick out sick. Yeah, it was one of those things where it's like I definitely saw both sides, but like I feel like
Starting point is 00:17:59 Candace could have like diffused it really easily. Yes. Also, they were like across the table. I was like, this is so stressful. But I mean, overall, I am excited that Candace is kind of at this point in her journey. Obviously, like, I don't really care who has babies and who doesn't. But clearly this has been something that has been, you know, on her mind. And I mean, we'll see. It's a year later. And as far as we know, she's not pregnant. So it's not like we're getting a baby like any time soon. But that, honestly, I feel like that was kind of. of the only like notable thing from the dinner and then they mostly were just worried about the prank well okay so the prank i wish they have they do more of like they were talking about some sort of like initiation basically in the group and i was like i've have you ever seen this before like
Starting point is 00:18:52 i've never seen them unless i'm missing something like i haven't seen them do a prank to anybody else i love i love a prank i'm not a big fan of pranks like in real life but on a show like this I think they're very fun. You mean when it's not to you? I just think pranks are like a little silly, but like. Oh, it depends what it is because I prank. I prank some sometimes. Something like this, I don't mind.
Starting point is 00:19:15 I don't like pranks where the goal is to like embarrass someone. Oh, no, no, no. Like pants. Remember in middle school used to pants people that we got in big trouble for? Oh, God. Yeah, I do remember that. Yikes. So they hide some spiders and a snake.
Starting point is 00:19:33 like a little gummy snake in Wendy's bed and then hide in the closet. And obviously she's like freaking out whatever when they pop out of the closet. I am obsessed with the fact that they let them watch on the producers monitor the little TV screen of what's happening live on camera. It's so funny to me because I feel like a year or two ago they never would have kind of let them break the fourth wall in this way to just because it wasn't even like a lot of the time when we think of them breaking the fourth wall in housewives, it's like, oh, like this dramatic moment where she pushed a cameraman or like, you know, something like that.
Starting point is 00:20:12 But this was purely just like, eh, the prank works better if they can watch. Yeah, it was funny. They were outside of Wendy's room, like all sitting on the floor and in the hallway of the hotel. And like when she found the spider, I was like, holy shit, that looks like very real. Like that's not cool. Yeah. But then, but at first, and then she pulled it back and told the snake. And I was like, imagine like a fucking boa constrictor was in your bed.
Starting point is 00:20:36 That wasn't a boa constrictor, but still. And then she was like, is someone in my closet, like, it was a haunted house, like in her room. That I wouldn't have liked. I wouldn't have liked if they were in my closet. Like, that would have scared the shit out of me. Some people are like super anal about other people being in their space. So like, I feel like, like, Wendy, Wendy didn't really seem to mind that much. But there are some people where like, it would be like, why the fuck did you go in my hotel room?
Starting point is 00:21:06 Okay, well, those people are the people that are not fun and, like, would ruin the idea of the prank. It's like, we're not here to go through your closet and your clothes, bitch. We're here to scare you. Pay attention to what we're here. They're not like shuffling through her drawers. They're just like putting a snake under the pillow. You just got me so mad because like there are those people who are like, why are you in my room? What are you doing in here?
Starting point is 00:21:26 And it's like, you just ruined everything. We just start to break you. To each their own. Yeah, you're right. Not everybody's, not everybody. People feel different about their space. I enjoyed the prank. I thought it was a nice little moment of lightness.
Starting point is 00:21:42 And then the next morning we have some stuff going on. Robin is looking through the photos from her embezzled photo shoot. Oh. And this is, oh, it's a tough spot to be in. She likes all the photos. They all came out cute.
Starting point is 00:22:03 but she says that she is um karen's pictures are challenging for her so i can attest to this because as you guys know i do this for shop matches so and a lot of the times we use people from work like for models and it is it is different because like i may have a different relationship with some of the people we work with. But you can always be like, talk to the person and be like, hey, we got to redo these pictures. Like yours didn't come out the bat. Like I don't like the way this looks. Like it's actually very simple to, to go about this. But I feel like it's shitty because like if I were her, I would absolutely not tell her that her pictures are challenging and didn't come out good. and she would nix them from the website.
Starting point is 00:23:00 Like I would, I would do a redo. I would. Yeah. Just so you know, I'm putting up the other ones because they're ready. But I think like the lighting or the angle was weird or like there was something. Yeah, like you could make up any kind of excuse. But clearly we don't actually, this is going to play out next episode. But it looks like she literally just is like, yeah, look at the website.
Starting point is 00:23:21 And then Karen's just not there. Yeah. She went about it like, how can I do this where I, where maybe Cameron won't notice that she's not on the website, which like, come on. Also, that's not fair to Karen because, like, she took the time out of her day to go have fun and be in, like, a photo shoot. Like, you just either one should have never asked her from the beginning to do it. The funny thing is, though, like, everybody who's looking at this hat website and seeing
Starting point is 00:23:45 that all these women are on the website, they know what Real Housewives of Potomac is. So, whether it's, like, the perfect photo of Karen or not, I don't think anyone is going to be less likely to buy this hat because Karen's photo is, like, not flawless. Right. And now they're trying to pin it on the fact that Karen's not like young enough for this look of the hat. And I was like, that's something you should have thought about before. But also, I'm sorry, it's a floral baseball cap. If that doesn't scream like senior citizen in Florida, what does?
Starting point is 00:24:14 But what I found out what I learned last night, which I, because I know we like, we were laughing, just having good fun with the hats and with Robin doing this. But I do have to say that Candace last night and watched it up in live said that. that the hats, the inside are lined with something. I forgot what she said. That helps edges. So she like specifically made them like for like to protect like the hair. And so I was like, oh, that's like I just like got educated on that. Like that's, yeah, it's like it was.
Starting point is 00:24:48 You got educated. Educated. No, but so it was like she did it like for a reason, not just she's like I want to make a baseball hat. Oh, that's interesting. Yeah. That's like fun. I like that it has like a little extra, a little something to it. Yeah. Somebody, I think it was Gibson John's posted on Twitter that it reminded him of Beverly Hills when Derreet made the name to the swimsuits after everyone but Teddy. Yeah. I mean, yes. I wonder. I think Teddy has a bathing suit now, I think. Yeah. She eventually gave her one. That was like, that was a moment. So then.
Starting point is 00:25:29 Ashley comes down and she's talking to Robin and Jazeel and she tells them that Monique asked her to write the character's statement and I am so glad that she had this conversation with Robin and Jazel
Starting point is 00:25:44 because Ashley seems to have this weird idea that this is just like not that big of a deal and it's like a no brainer and it shouldn't nobody should be that upset and she's like oh yeah like I know I need to tell Candace but like whatever and Robin and is that like, uh, what?
Starting point is 00:26:03 Here's my only issue with this, which the more I'm watching this and the more I'm seeing these conversations with the girls like I'm learning, they're making this fight and, and circumstances about them. And it's not. And I know it affects them. So that's one thing. But the fight's not about them. So like Ashley, I'm not taking sides.
Starting point is 00:26:29 this but I'm saying like Ashley's doing what she thinks is right and and I feel they're looking like Giselle and Robin are looking at each other like oh my God oh my God but and then right away Robin was quick to be like so you're going to tell them you went to the bathroom and and Ashley was like it's not a witness like I'm not like saying what happened like this this happened here like it's I'm just it's a it's a I mean it's like a character witness not a not a like eyewitness yeah so at this point now they're going back and forth where they're looking at it is a favor that Ashley owes Monique and feel like there's a few ways that everyone's looking at this. It's a lot. Yeah. I just think I agree with Robin when she said that the whole Butterknife thing has nothing to do with the
Starting point is 00:27:16 altercation that Monique and Candace got in. I mean, it's a completely different situation. It was a year ago. I understand if Ashley wants to be on Monique's side in general, sure. whatever, that's her prerogative, but like to take it to this like legal thing and she's saying, well, you know, like, I owe it to Monique because Monique could go to jail. And it's like, I don't, I don't know. Like, it just feels off to me. I'm like, I feel like Ashley is, she just is dealing with this situation so weird. Like over the last. And Monique actually go to jail for this? Um, so like the charges that Candace was like filing had jail time attached. to them potentially. But she would never go to jail for this. But like obviously that's not a given. And then the charges ended up being thrown out. So like,
Starting point is 00:28:05 technically jail time was a possibility. It's not like a lie. Right. No, no, no. Yeah. But I'm saying like that would it, it wouldn't have gone to that. Like regardless. I just feel that way because there's I don't know. Actually, it's different because it was on camera. So that's different. But speaking of the butter knife though, it is very different, but I feel like when Giselle was like the butter knife, I feel like she was like belittling that to the point where like that, nah, it wasn't a steak knife. Like the girl still pointed a knife at her and was like, and was like being.
Starting point is 00:28:38 Yeah. I do. Yeah. I don't appreciate that. Yeah. I don't think that situation needs to be downplayed. I just think it's a little weird to like draw a direct connection. Correct.
Starting point is 00:28:50 But also like, I think it's just weird that Ashley is acting like this is going to be no big deal and she's just going to tell Candice and they're going to talk through it and move on.
