Betches Media presents.
Ha ha, laugh, funny.
Mention It All, a Bravo by Betches podcast.
We don't say that, but now we said it.
With me, Dylan Hafer.
We're going to check me, boo.
Hey, everyone.
Welcome back to the Mention at All podcast.
I have been loving this season of Real Housewives of Atlanta so far,
and I just can't wait to talk to these women as this season goes along.
And today we have a very special guest.
She is a newbie to the Real Housewives of Atlanta,
but she has so much going on, and I can't wait to get into it.
Kelly Farrell.
Hello. Welcome. Hello. How are you doing? I'm doing amazing. Thank you so much for having me.
I am so happy to have you here. We've seen three episodes of the show so far. And I feel like we have learned a lot about you. We've seen you with the family, with the ladies.
Yes. A lot of different flavors of Kelly, we're getting to know. What is it like for you now that this show that you filmed last year is coming out and people are getting to know you?
Life is good. I mean, it's good. I mean, it's.
It's good. I'm having a good time. I had a great time filming, you know, and sharing my story with my
girls and about me, a little bit of my personal life, of course, my business and, you know, my
journey. So, yeah, it's been really good. No complaints. None. I'm curious for you coming in,
I mean, the Real Housewives of Atlanta is a storied franchise at this point. I imagine you have
some experience with either watching the show or just kind of the, you know, the atmosphere around it.
What was your experience with it prior to it joining your life in this way?
You know, I'm going to be honest.
I did not watch the show.
I haven't watched the show in years, to be, you know, quite frank.
I've been busy, you know, building that little waffle empire mind.
So I haven't watched it, but, I mean, everybody knows that, you know, RHOA is a staple.
for the Housewives franchise.
Didn't say I've never watched it,
but, you know, I watched it when like the OGs,
you know, like when you have the Ninnies
and the Sharrays and the Lisa Woo's.
But, you know, I think, you know, now just, you know,
joining the cast and seeing how everything goes.
It's definitely a new era of Housewives.
And I'm loving it.
It is such an interesting time in the show's kind of trajectory
to have this group of veteran women
that are on the show.
And then to have this group of new women that are on the show and watching how that works.
And, you know, are the newbies going to kind of, how are they going to settle in and how are we going to get to know people?
And I'm curious for you joining for the first time, was there ever a feeling that maybe some people, was there like a superiority kind of thing?
Or like you were, did it ever feel like you were on somebody else's territory in a way?
No.
Because some people can be a little territory.
I mean, they could be territorial, but I'm a, I'm a juicy, sweet peach just like the rest of them.
No, I mean, honestly, a lot of the OGs and most, I mean, all of them really kind of welcome this in with open arms.
You know, it wasn't like a, now of course, you know, you have some who are just going to, you know, this is what they do, you know, and they've been there for a while.
So they're probably a little bit more established, I would say.
but I think the newbies kind of came in and, you know, kind of marked our own little territory.
I would agree.
Yeah.
Yeah, but, you know, at the end of the day, it's a sisterhood.
So we had a great time.
We were able to connect with one another.
We can still relate to each other, you know, if that makes sense.
Like, all of us are all still going through something.
So even though you have the old and the new, like, it's still a dynamic group of women that are, you know, here to, you know,
you know, support one another.
Yeah, I think that's, you know, the idea of casting a show like this and finding the right balance
of the group, it's complicated.
Yeah.
Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
And I think it was important for this season from a viewer perspective to feel like, okay,
we're introducing some new people, we're introducing some fresh energy, but for it to still
feel like there's this cohesive, you said sisterhood where it's like, okay, maybe you haven't
known somebody for 10 years.
but you can still meet on a certain level and bond over something that you might be going through.
Or maybe not bond, but, you know.
You know, support.
Yeah.
Learn more about each other.
Learn more about one another, you know.
No, it was good.
Yeah.
It's really good.
Yeah.
I'm so curious.
We were talking a little bit before we started recording about your four daughters that we've gotten to see on the show.
My girl.
Starting to get to meet a little bit.
Yeah.
Your age group of your girls runs the gamut.
Yes.
How old are your oldest and your youngest right now?
So the youngest are my identical twins, Chastie and Chelsea.
They are nine.
And then you have Chance.
She's 12.
And then you have Chloe.
She's 17.
That is.
I imagine that you have many things that you have to navigate on a day-to-day basis.
I'm so curious how you approached joining the show, knowing that you have, you know, a 17-year-old daughter who is going to know exactly what it means to do a show like this.
And then the nine-year-old who maybe you have to frame it in a different way.
Yes.
You know, I definitely have every age group.
So the conversations are different from, you know, with the nine-year-old than the 17-year-old.
But my girls are so good.
You know, it's not my first time being on television.
You know, usually I'm on TV for cooking.
But to show my reality, you know, and I went in it with my girls and I said,
we're just going to have fun, you know, and be our authentic selves.
And, you know, mommy's just showing her journey, not only her waffles, but some of her personal stuff.
And, you know, the girls had a great time filming.
They did really good.
And, you know, it's not like they were subjected to something that they didn't want to do or, you know, certain conversations clearly are for adults.
And, you know, so we were able to navigate through.
And I think they did really well.
Has your oldest watched the show at all so far?
Do you feel like that's, okay.
I'm like, I don't know, some people would be like, mom, turn it off.
No, well, the 12 year old is definitely
Chance is not interested at all, okay?
Because you gotta think about it.
At the end of the day, I'm just their mom.
You know, like, I could be this personality, but I'm just mom.
I'm still in carpool with a bonnet on at 7 a.m. and on two wheels, you know, like,
and two different carpools at that.
But for them, I'm just mommy.
I'm still going to, you know, to the school for functions and, you know, play dates.
just having a good time. So I always want to be their mom. I never want to, you know,
be anything more than that. And I never want them to not feel like they're in a safe space
or uncomfortable because of TV. Yeah, I think, I mean, just in these first few episodes,
you've started to share so many different parts of your life. I mean, some stuff about your marriage
and your business, obviously, you know, I love the Waffle Queen. Thank you. I love how
proudly you wear that. I think it's just like, it makes me smile. But also, I mean,
in this last episode talking about your daughter's osteogenes imperfecta and sharing that and
I mean, raising money for that, but also just talking about it, I think is so valuable.
Kind of how are you personally sort of navigating, sharing all this stuff? You said, I mean,
you've, you've been in public before with like the book and the, you know, the business stuff,
but just kind of navigating like, yeah, like this is, this is real and it is affecting me and now it's out there.
Yeah, you know, when joining the platform, I definitely wanted to make sure that I used it not only to, you know, for our sisterhood and things like that.
But I wanted to make sure that I was able to use the platform for things that were near and dear to me and, you know, my philanthropy.
So osteogenesis perfect is something that three of my daughters actually have that they were diagnosed with a genetic disease, which is not.
known for, it's known as Brittle Bones disease. And so many people go through that journey without
the support or, you know, some are not aware of what's wrong. And it could be misdiagnosed as, you know,
abuse, child abuse. And it was really, really difficult for us. And I wanted to make sure that,
you know, a lot of people didn't know that my daughters were diagnosed with that. I, down to friends and
some not even, you know, some family, I never told.
It was one of those things where we just kind of got through it, and I'm grateful for foundations such as the OI Foundation that, you know, help and, you know, do things in regards to the community.
And I wanted to make sure that I did my part as well to show what that looks like.
And of course, most importantly, raise an awareness.
Yeah, I thought the story that you told on last week's episode about, you know, being at the hospital and them, you know, having these questions about the condition, like knowing that there is such a system.
issue of people being believed and getting the treatment that they need and the diagnoses that
can really be, you know, life-saving and life-changing.
I think that's something where even if you're struggling with something different, just
hearing a story like that can sort of give you that, you know, mindset that it's like, okay,
let me get to the bottom of this and get what I need.
Absolutely.
And, you know, honestly, just sharing that I'm just like everybody else.
You know, some people think because you're on this platform that you don't go through things.
in real life situations.
And we all, like all of us as women on the show,
have, you know, one thing or another that we go through.
And if we can't use this platform to help others, then why are we here?
You know?
So good, so good, so good.

Speaking of going through things
Some ladies on this show
Are going through some things all the time
You came in a little hot with one, Portia Williams
And the situation with her and her marriage
and now her divorce.
What was it?
Obviously, we've all seen, you know, stories and rumors and questions about kind of the background of her relationship.
What was it for you that made you feel like that was something that you kind of were going to raise your hand a little bit that first episode and ask the question?
Well, you know, I mean, clearly you could see that I, you know, had dinner with Shemia and we talked about some things.
And, you know, she said, hey, ask her when you see her.
And, you know, I saw her at Shamiya's party.
That was the first time of me seeing her.
Although, you know, clearly that probably wasn't the time and the place to ask.
I did.
And, you know, I came in a little hot, but I also came in wanting to know the answer that, you know, I asked the question to.
So, you know, we were having a conversation and she sat down.
She said, what are you guys talking about?
I'm like, well.
Well, you're going to find out.
Let me just tell you, you know.
But we, you know, you got to watch.
We got down to the middle of it and had a great conversation.
And, you know, again, Portia's a beautiful woman.
We are both going through divorces that are not in the best light.
And, you know, I just wanted to make sure that at some point, you know, I kind of knew what that sisterhood group looked like.
I didn't know if I could support her or she didn't need to be supported.
Well, I think it's, I think on a show like this, and I mean, this is in off-camera friendships too,
but knowing that you can you can maybe ask a question or hold somebody accountable or do a little digging and then still find that common ground and come together.
And, you know, in the last episode before your event that had this, you know, important focus for you, kind of being like, okay, let's let's at least clear the air.
Yeah.
You know, 50%.
Yeah.
I think we did about 75.
Make a little progress.
Yeah.
I definitely think we made some progress.
You know, we got to have a great conversation over lunch and talk about what that look like.
and, you know, kind of have a more open conversation in regards to that.
So, yeah.
I'm curious how you approach the idea that, you know, you're being open about stuff in your life.
You're getting to know this group of women.
The idea of trust and sort of getting to know people and figuring out like where those lines are, who can I trust?
How much can I share with people?
Yeah.
How do you kind of, you know, maybe start to build those friendships that you do, you do,
want to have that sisterhood and feel like people are are trustworthy. How is that for you?
Well, it's going good for me to a certain extent, but it's, I mean, it's going good. Me and
Shemia have an amazing relationship on and off the camera, clearly, you know, and it's about just,
you know, creating a bond. And, you know, a sisterhood is super important. You know, it all goes
into trust and loyalty and honesty and, you know, even sometimes just being vulnerable with one another.
I think it's good. We all have had a moment on the show this season where we've had to kind of like rely on one another or, you know, just have that open book conversation because none of us are perfect, right?
Like we're all going through something in one way or another. But, you know, being able to support one another in a time of need has been really good. Yeah.
I was thinking about the idea that I feel like sometimes people that have been on the show for longer can have a little bit of a reputation.
Maybe, you know, things have happened or people have had experiences with them that put them in a certain light.
And I was thinking about Drew Sadora.
Okay.
Drew is somebody that we saw on the episode last week.
I feel like people sometimes maybe call into question her relationship with truth and fact and, you know.
Yeah.
I'm wondering, though, for you, like, how do you balance what you might hear about somebody and what maybe somebody else's experience might be with somebody versus you're meeting them and getting to know them and forming your own relationship?
Where do you kind of place those two things, forming your own judgment versus being like, well, my friend said something about her and that's, I'll just take that at face value.
Everybody got a clean slate with me.
Like, I didn't want to take anything that I've heard in the past or, you know, even when me asking the question with Portia, I wanted to know, like, you know what I mean?
You have to ask and communicate.
So, everybody got a clean slate.
I just, you know, I'm not going to go off of what somebody else told me and say, okay, well, no, I have to actually have that experience.
And then I could determine if those things are truthful or not.
Look, that Dru and.
If that is a characterful or not.
The Drew and Dennis situation, man, she doesn't make it easy for herself sometimes.
Some people make it harder than others for themselves, but, you know, it is what it is.
Yeah, I mean, it's, it's tough when you're, when you're on a show like this, it's, it's a, it's like a heightened version of this, of this friend group.
And so you, you just have to think about that it's like there are certain actions are going to come back around in a way that it might not.
if things weren't on camera, if people weren't doing confessionals, if social media didn't
care, like it's, it is, I would imagine joining for the first time. It feels like an extra
layer that you have to get used to of like, okay, this is, this is chess that we're playing
right now. Because although it's a friend group, we have our other friends, which is the fans who
all are a million of those. We got a couple million of those. We got to, well, technically we have,
what, 2.5 million? Those people.
friends that are all tuned in that have been absolutely amazing.
Those peacock numbers looking pretty good.
I know, right?
I think people have been really pleasantly surprised so far.
Not surprised.
That sounds bad.
But there were a lot of questions going into this season of Atlanta.
It is a new vibe.
And so far it's been, it feels like everybody kind of is pulling their weight in a way that is exciting to launch.
We all are.
I mean, we had an amazing time filming.
Yeah.
We really did.
Like, all of us.
We had a great time.
Like, I can say that.
I'm curious for you and Angela and Brittany coming into this season as kind of the new trio,
did you feel like there was like any kind of dynamic among you of like, okay, like we got a,
we got to represent for the three of us.
Like we got to kind of make our presence known.
Like how, what was it like with the three of you knowing that you were each kind of experiencing
this for the first time together?
It was good.
Honestly, I mean, you know, we are all like different entrepreneurs.
in our own light, all clearly wives at the time. And we were new women, but they're all strong
women, you know, like both of them are a strong women, strong personality. So everybody held their
own weight. It wasn't like a one had to pull or this had to pull. Like everyone did what they
were supposed to do. And, you know, both of them have many, you know, they are accomplished women.
And, you know, they were able to bring it, including myself.
You know, it's just like it wasn't new for me.
It was just new to have the cameras, right?
Like my life, it wasn't like it was a new life.
It was just new to have the cameras to come in and see my life.
So I think everybody did a phenomenal job, especially the newbies.
I think, you know, being able to adapt and, you know, I think it was actually probably easier to have more new women than just it being like the one woman.
I think it was probably easier because it's like, oh, well, you know, we're here now.
Right.
Well, that's the thing when if there's one new person on a season, it feels like there's so much pressure
and you really have to break into the group versus if it's half and half or, you know,
some mix like this season is, it's like, you know, if the vets aren't willing to play ball with
the newbies, it almost reflects worse on them than it does on you.
It's not like.
And it was easier because we were friends.
You know what I mean?
Like I was friends with Britt.
I already knew Shamiya.
So it wasn't like you just being in a friend group and not knowing each other.
So it all tied in and it all made sense.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Did you know that Shamiya was going to be full time on the show when you signed on for this season?
Or was it kind of, was it everybody was kind of on their own timeline?
Everybody was on their own timeline.
I didn't know.
Like I didn't know.
But I mean, I'm so glad that she is because I'm like, what are you guys waiting for?
But she's been like, you know.
It has been so fun to watch Shemia really show out this season.
Because we've known her a little bit for so long.
And so it's been kind of like, oh, she had all this going on.
But you guys didn't know her.
Like I'm like, I know everybody always said like, oh, it was that, you know, not, no, she's been that girl.
Yeah, she's been that girl.
She has been such an amazing spirit.
But just like showing all of her duties and all of her jobs.
and, you know, her life and her family.
And we were laughing earlier.
They were like, what does Shemia live?
I'm like, oh, they just live in Mawangie County.
Like, it's like right off of out of bucket.
But I'm talking about her big her houses.
I got you.
She has her own county and bucket.
I'm like the Georgia geography is.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I'm like, whatever you say.
No, but no, no, no, no.
Everybody is well deserving.
Yeah.
You know, I think all of the new ladies, I think, are bringing it.
I thought it was really fun to see you host your, your Baumann event.
Thank you.
Shut down the store.
Hello.
First Housewife of Atlanta to shut down a Baumon store.
Okay.
Yeah.
It is a tale is oldest time on Real Housewives.
When somebody is having an event for charity, everybody should be on their best behavior.
Hello.
Inevitably, shop.
Somebody's not on the best behavior.
You were a little frustrated with, there were a couple little dynamics going on.
Yeah.
Shemia and Angela have this.
It's such an interesting energy between them.
I'm like, we're going for the noses.
Yes.
We're talking about the flavor, flavor.
Oh my gosh.
Man, that was funny to watch.
But I imagine for you, you're kind of like, can you settle down?
Yes.
I'm like, God, we're here like to support OI and here you are looking like you're about to break some bones.
Like acting a fool.
And then Drew shows up.
They show us on the screen, 66 minutes late.
It was so funny to watch because the second she walks in, she says, oh, you know, if I run into Portia, I'll say hi.
But, you know, I'm not looking for anything.
Yeah.
One minute later, we see, Porsche doesn't want to talk right now.
And she's like, let's talk.
We can talk.
We're here.
Yeah.
I was like, Drew, come on.
Not at the Brittle Bone
Belmont event.
Well, Portia knows proper etiquette.
Yeah, no, I think that's something where like that's one of those things where when you're hosting an event, it's like, okay, like, I'm going to set the expectation.
But these women are going to have a mind of their own sometimes.
These ladies are going to do what they want to do.
As long as they are putting their money where their mouths are, I'm okay with it.
I know.
We saw people shop and I saw Britt leaving with some bags.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah.
Portia said she couldn't use all of her attorney money, but she used a little bit of it.
Man, that was so.
We got a lot of attorneys going on.
We do.
And those attorney's bills, man.
No joke.
Trust me, I know.

I'm curious.
Obviously, we know from the outside
that some drama goes down with Kenya
and that she leaves the show this season.
Unfortunate.
So obviously, with the group having to kind of,
you know, rethink a little bit,
what was it like for you?
Did you feel like there was a pressure
to kind of like keep the ball rolling in the way that it have been or maybe an opportunity
to fill a space.
What was that kind of like knowing that that's not a situation you expect to happen when you've
been building this group dynamic together?
In regards to what?
After Kenya left.
Oh, after Kenya.
You know, it's so different because me and Kenya really hit it off.
Like we really actually had a good time and we had so many things in common.
You know, it's unfortunate that she is.
is no longer there.
And of course, the dynamic became a little different because it's like you're missing someone.
You know what I mean?
Like, you know how it is when you start with someone and it's like, oh, man, like, I wonder what
it could have looked like, you know, and I hate that.
But unfortunately, you know, bad decisions were made and, you know, you have to move forward
in the friend group.
So it was, you know, it was hurtful at first.
I don't know if it was challenging.
I mean, because life still goes on.
You know what I mean?
Like, you still have to keep it going.
So, yeah.
What was it like when, like, what was your reaction when you heard that Fadra was going to be joined, like, coming around the group?
I was so excited.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I was super excited for Fadra.
It's funny because we had ran into her when we were going to our trip to Nashville.
And we had ran into her in the airport.
And I love me some Fadra.
You know, she's fun size like me.
So it's always.
going to be fun. She calls me her little strawberry shortcake.
If you, if you were on Fager Parks' good side, she can be the, a whole bucket of fun.
No, she is. She's so much fun. Like, I mean, like, even when we're not filming, like,
she's just, she's a fun time. She really is. She's a fun time and she's a really good friend.
Like, she gives great advice to, like, yeah. Yeah. Well, she's somebody, and I think that
she has a quality which which makes a lot of the best housewives a lot of the best personalities she just
has so much different life experience she does she has careers on careers she's been married and
divorced she has kids yeah you know been on different shows just so many different like
little facets of things that she can draw on yes and i think that that is i mean just a well-rounded
person is is such a blessing she is she really is
Yeah.
She's a great friend.
She's a great friend.
She's a great boss.
You know, she is crushing it.
And she does.
She has 20,000 jobs.
I'm inspired.
But no, she does.
She has 20,000 jobs and she does all of them very well.
So cheers to her.
I feel like that is something that this cast really has so much going for it in terms of like, just people with a lot of stuff going on.
We are.
A lot of different, a lot of different irons in the fire in a way that is, it's just,
like dynamic and exciting. And I think that that's, it's just cool to see. It's fun to watch.
That's the new era of housewives, right? Like, you know, we're not the traditional wives. We are working.
We are building empires. We are, you know, raising children and, you know, still able to run a
household. And I think that's so amazing. And it also does create really interesting connections on
the show. Like even this season, Portia and Drew,
are kind of at odds over this dentist thing.
And then there's the wrinkle that Drew has a go-naked hair partnership or deal or whatever.
And it's like that's interesting.
It's like you're kind of in business together, but then you're friends, but then maybe you're not friends.
Like there's so many different layers to it.
And I think that's if it's a season of a show where there's only like two things going on,
you've got to really work to keep those two things interesting.
But if there's so much to look at, it's, I think it is going to.
for everyone.
Well, listen, the ladies are working.
We're all trying to be an ambassador for Go Naked.
Angela's got five houses to do.
Yes, and hopefully Portia B's in her some wigs after that wig melted off on that first
episode.
We all could use one.
I was watching it.
I'm like, look, it looked hot and humid out there.
But for that to happen on your first episode, I'm like, she is so bad for Angela, though.
Let me tell you something.
It was like, listen.
We're filming in Georgia.
In the summer, we were all melting.
Like, we, all of us were melting for Christ's sake.
So I felt bad for her.
But listen, she got it together.
Did you see her and watch What Happens Live?
She looked stunning.
She also, I saw the picture of her with Andy.
She's tall.
Oh, yeah, she's tall, honey.
Because when she's with her husband, you don't really realize because he's so tall.
I'm like, that is a statuesque woman.
Yeah, that's team tall.
over there. I'm on Team
Small. You're on Team Strawberry Shortcake.
I'm on Team Strawberry Shortcake.
No, I'm having a good
time this season. I love watching
all of you guys and I'm excited to see
what we have coming up. What is
for you, knowing that you filmed this
whole season, you waited for it to come out,
how are you enjoying
or maybe
not always enjoying watching week to week?
Are there things that you're kind of like, I don't
know how I handled that or I don't know what I
said about that or what she
said about me. How has that been just in these first few weeks getting a taste of that viewing
experience? Well, for me, you know, the things that I've said, clearly are all truth.
One. Hand on the Bible. Hand on the Bible. You know, it's, I mean, anytime you're filming,
I went through a divorce on camera. You know what I mean? In real life, in real time. So I think
for me, that's probably the hardest scenario in situation. Nobody wants to see.
you know, how I was feeling at that time or the things that you were going through.
It's like you reliving those moments again after you've possibly think that you've healed from
them.
Right.
And then you have to go through it again.
So I think that was probably the hardest part for me.
And then, you know, but I can say just watching the show every week, seeing how some of the
other ladies are interacting with each other or seeing some things that maybe they've been going
through and probably didn't share with me or sometimes the group, you know, in general, I think,
has been inspiring as well.
So I'm watching just like everybody else.
Inspiring.
Inspiring.
That's not the word I would expect.
I am inspired by some of these ladies, you know?
I think one thing I can say is seeing how everyone is going for their dreams, shooting for their dreams, you know?
Like seeing, you know, Porsche build her, you know, pampered by Porsche, seeing Drew go after her music career, seeing Shamiya, you know, tap into the things that she's been doing.
and, you know, coming, doing her record, I think all of those things are inspiring, you know, even seeing Angela with her houses.
And, you know, just everybody's been putting in work.
Everybody's working.
Everybody's working for a burkin.
I will say, we're very early into this season, but I'm excited for what this reunion could entail, too, because I feel like there's a lot to get into.
And I imagine we'll be working at the reunion, too.
You, I think we all are.
You're like, oh yeah, got to take my little notes.
Yeah, it's a lot.
It's a lot.
But I'm excited.
I can't wait for reunion.
Amazing.
Yeah.
One final question.
I told a friend that I was going to be speaking with you today and was very curious
about what is mimosa mix?
You've got this mimosa mix.
I should have bought you some of my mimosa mix.
Don't worry about it.
I'll send you some.
It's like a mixer that you mix with champagne.
Yes.
You can mix it with champagne or if you're feeling a little spicy, you can add some
tequila.
But no, it's a flavoring.
So it's a pineapple grapefruit mixture.
It's cocktails with Kelly, Mamosa mix.
And you can add it to your favorite prosceco or champagne or, you know, tequila.
Chicken and Waffles.
Pairs well with chicken and waffles.
I have got to come to Atlanta and do, I want to do, I want to stop it at Nanas.
And then I want to go to Old Lady Gang Candy Spot too.
Let's do it.
A little brunch tour.
Yeah, do a little brunch tour with us.
Yes.
Amazing.
I'm sure we both will host you.
Thank you so much.
Kelly,
thank you for being here.
Absolutely.
Congrats on the season.
Thank you.
And keep up the work.
Thank you so much.
I appreciate that.
Thanks everyone for listening.
