Starting point is 00:00:41 We're going to check me, boo Hey everyone, welcome back to the Mention It All podcast It is a new week A new day is dawning its spring outside And we have a trifecta of Bravo podcast announcements
Starting point is 00:01:00 That we have to talk about And I don't mean podcast announcements related to this podcast. No, that would be too normal. No, we have three new Bravo Leopardy podcasts that have been birthed into the world since I last sat down on the microphone. And look, as a member of the Bravo podcast community, I would hate to be seen as casting us versions onto others who are trying to shoot their shot in the podcast game. You know, it's a it's a big world out there. There's room for all of us. But sometimes you do have to just take like a quick step back and just ask yourself, why. Who is this for? What are we doing here? Why now? Why her? For example.
Starting point is 00:01:45 But I won't belabor the point. Our announcements that we have to get into, first, Bryn Whitfield launching a podcast with the ringer called Please See Below, very, you know, cutesy nod to the fact that she's a businesswoman. a business woman doing what she won't say. But this is a podcast. I have written down some of the descriptions for these because, you know, nobody out here is just saying, I'm a housewife, so I'm doing a podcast and you'll listen. You know, we got a massage, we got a finesse. And so Brin will be bringing fans deeper into her world to share the most important aspects of her life. She'll get down and dirty with friends, celebs, experts and exes, chatting sex, finance, dating, career choices,
Starting point is 00:02:30 women's health and how they all intersect. Now, this is your classic podcast description where what is it about? We don't know. And maybe neither does she. So it's about everything. And Brin is the kind of person where her doing a show like this, I mean, the timing is a big LOL from me and from I think everybody else who saw this announcement because I have to imagine that this deal was either done or in the works before the end of this season of Real House Stories of New York. because I just can't really wrap my head around the idea that anybody would be interested in, you know, beginning this project with Bryn after seeing the end of this season and particularly the fan reception to it. And that fan reception is really important here because if you're a housewife
Starting point is 00:03:16 starting a podcast, you need people to just like you enough to want to listen. Or maybe you have a big secret. And the thing is, I believe that Bryn has big secrets. But I don't believe that Bryn is going to share those big secrets in a satisfying way on her podcast called Please See Below. It's just interesting timing. And I think that Bryn is certainly a polarizing figure. She's certainly a controversial figure. But in the sense that, like, I think the pendulum of public opinion swung pretty strongly negative. And I don't know that there's a huge contingent out there that still feels like, oh, my God, yes, that's my girl. She's so fun. She's so fresh. She's so honest and I need to listen to her podcast.
Starting point is 00:04:00 We'll see. No, she's not the only new Roney cast member because Aaron and Abe Leachie are launching a couple's podcast together with Dear Media called Come Together. But you get it. They fuck. They're having another baby. They come together. And they come together on this podcast to talk.
Starting point is 00:04:21 And this is a quote again, all about love, sex, marriage, relationships, friendships, business and so much more. Oh my God. I feel like I have deja vu. Who would have thought there could be a podcast about sex, relationships, business, and so much more? It's almost like you can just talk about anything. Now, the difference to me between Brin's podcast and Aaron and Abe's podcast, obviously aside for the fact that there's, you know, a husband in the picture, Aaron and Abe, to me, are like kind of a vibe when they're together.
Starting point is 00:04:54 they are, I think, generally pretty well-liked. I think that their family dynamic, while not perfect, you know, sometimes your husband goes and sells the Bitcoin without telling you, and you are going to spend that on something and you're not aware. That's tough. But I think that on an average level, their life comes across as more relatable while also being more aspirational than Brins. Because Brin is like this frustrating, confounding mystery box of she has money and she has a career, but also what is it and where does it come from? Aaron and Abe, I feel like, are giving off the impression that they are like a real normal couple who works hard and plays hard and lives this big, you know, splashy life in New York City and it's messy and there's kids and there's about to be another kid. And I think that their podcast, out of all the ones I'm talking about today, I think it might do really well. Because, you know, Dear Media kind of has this, you know, template where it's like the husband and the wife and they have differing opinions on things.
Starting point is 00:06:05 And so you know that there's going to be like, you know, they're going to get into little arguments and they're going to have cute little disagreements. But also they're going to, they're going to like bounce off of each other. And I think the description also says that sometimes they'll just be the two of them. Sometimes they'll have guests. They'll have other couples. You know, I think that they actually are checking a lot of boxes with this podcast. And you know what? They are good as a couple doing media.
Starting point is 00:06:32 I recently saw them. And I was not watching CNBC because that is not something that I ever do. But I saw a clip. They were on CNBC together talking on some panel show about specifically the tariffs that are being enacted. you know, maybe I don't know, who knows what's happening day to day. I can't get into that. But they were talking about the potential impact that these tariffs on imports from Mexico were going to have on their mezcal business.
Starting point is 00:07:03 And I mean, once you get past the like LOL, Aaron acting like she discovered mezcal of it all, like that's an interesting piece of press for a housewife and her husband to be doing. I don't think there are that many housewives that are getting invited. on CNBC to talk about the nitty gritty of what tariffs are going to do to their business. I don't see Lisa Barlow talking about Vita Tequila on CNBC. I think Bethany's probably been on CNBC, but like when? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:07:37 I think that Aaron and A. While I don't know if my personal journey will include listening to this podcast, I think that it has potential. And I think that others likely will. Now the third in our in our treble of announcements. Gia Judice. She's hitting the airwaves with an I-Heart podcast called Casual Chaos. And this one, reading from the description, our favorite Jersey girl is telling her story, unfiltered, unedited, and unapologetic.
Starting point is 00:08:08 From moments you didn't see on camera to secrets, nobody's dared to spill. Jia is bringing you behind the scenes like never before. Now, this to me, I think the Bryn one is like, worst timing. The G-O-1 is more of like a general who asked for this. And I don't, I don't even mean that in a rude way. And perhaps rude is in the eye of the beholder. Like, maybe it just is rude of me to say that. But Gia, to me, has been in an interesting place these last few years. First of all, I mean, right now, the status of Real House Eyes of New Jersey and her mother's potential future employment on that show is very much up
Starting point is 00:08:50 in the air. Now, there is this other making it in Manhattan or whatever the hell that kid's spinoff show with Brooks Marks and Riley Burris and Ariel Bierman is called. I think they filmed that and I think it's happening, but we haven't
Starting point is 00:09:06 gotten any real information. I don't think Bravo has like formally announced it unless I unless it was in like a press release six months ago. That show is theoretically coming down the pipeline but it's not like in promotion yet. So Gia right now is kind of in this weird, like, I guess she's an influencer
Starting point is 00:09:27 space. Over the last few seasons of Real Housewives of New Jersey, we've seen her pop up in more of like a almost like friend of her mom capacity and she's been involved in certain storylines and had confessionals and all of that. And like, Gia is just somebody who I don't ever have an issue with seeing her. Like, it has always made sense that she is a part of the fabric of Real Housewives of New Jersey. But I also have never, like, really wondered what is going on behind the curtain of Gia Judice. Like, secrets nobody's dared to spill. Is this just going to be rehashing something that Melissa said on on season four of Real Housewives of New Jersey? Is it going to be stuff about her parents? Is it going to be, It's certainly not going to be anything critical of Louis,
Starting point is 00:10:19 you know, not until some larger picture changes get made. I just am kind of like, what is Gia Yapin about for 30 minutes a week on a podcast? I don't know what her interests are. The last time I really saw her was on TikTok Live, and she and her mom were selling used handbags. Pre-loved is, we say pre-loved handbags. Were they fake handbags? I don't know. Somebody's going to get me in trouble for this, but they were selling handbags on TikTok live. And that to me was an indicator that things were not necessarily going great. So, you know, I hope things are going great. I have, I wish nothing but the best for Gia Judice. And I hope that, look, I can understand I'm probably not the target audience for casual chaos with Gia Judice. By the way, I do like the cover art for that one. She's dressed in this like chocolate brown outfit.
Starting point is 00:11:16 fit. She's sipping an espresso martini. It's very like brown, sexy brown vibes. I don't know. But you know, there's room for everybody. I also just a special mention. This is not a new podcast, rather one that was launched in the fall, but Jack's Taylor is going strong with his In the Mind of a Man show, which to me, I mean, still just that title sends a chill down my spine. Like, in the mind of a man, sounds like a David Fincher movie where somebody's like an assassin, I don't want to be in the mind of a man. As a man, I don't want to be in any other man's mind. That sounds freaky and messy and not fun. But he recently announced a tour for In the Mind of a Man. So it must be doing great. It must be. He's going on tour this spring. And it's a little weird because he announced
Starting point is 00:12:08 12 cities, but he only announced dates for eight of them. So four cities on this poster say date TBA, and theoretically the date should be in the next few months, because all the other dates are like April May. And then it also says more cities to come. How many tour dates is Jacks Taylor's in the mind of a man going to have? What is this, the Eros tour? I don't know. I am fascinated by this Bravo-Leb podcast economy, world universe. Like, Jack's's podcast, that's a real who is this for? I would love to know who's going to Jackson's live dates. I won't be going to Jackson's live dates. As of right now, there's been no New York date announced. So, you know, I don't think I can get the travel budget approved for that. Too bad. But if you are going, if you, I don't know, hate yourself or have too much money to spend and are just out here going to In the Mind of a Man Live, let me know how that goes. I would be really curious.
Starting point is 00:13:09 Brittany also recently just announced that she fully got ownership of their podcast, I guess. So she's like, y'all, I'm so thrilled to announce that I will be hosting it moving forward. It's like, I kind of assumed once Jack's had his own podcast that he's going on tour for. But, you know, divorce settlements, you got to divvy up the podcast assets. And congrats to everyone involved for still being able to talk into a microphone as much as they want. So good, so good. Starting point is 00:15:32 Now let's get into Real Housewives of Atlanta, shall we? Episode two of this season, I got the chance to talk to Shamiya on the show last week, so if you haven't had a chance to listen to that one, it was a lot of fun. Check it out. Shamia last night on Watch What Happens Live for the first time ever. She told me that when she was in the studio.
Starting point is 00:15:52 She was like, oh, I just came from Watch What Happens. I was like, oh, that's exciting. And she was like, yeah, it's my first time. I'm like, what do you mean? What do you mean? Shamia, to me, I know that we have never really known her that much outside of her friendship with Portia. But I'm just like, girl, you've been around for like 12 years.
Starting point is 00:16:11 What do you mean you've never been on Watch What Happens Live? She said she had never even been, like, as a guest to the studio. Like, girl, I've been there like 10 times. I don't know. Shamiya is here. She's rich and she get used to it. She's here. She's queer.
Starting point is 00:16:30 She's not queer. She's not queer. really, you know, productive. I feel like there's a lot going on in a good way. A couple questions. A couple questions. A couple, you know, points of slight concern. The biggest question. I mean, the Kenya Moore situation continues to be a challenge because this week's episode, we pick up where we left off at Shamiya's birthday party. And of course, Kenya's there. Everybody's there. Though Kenya, I noticed, sneaks out before everybody jumps in the pool. She's like, no, no, thank you. I will not be getting in the pool. And the only other time we see Kenya on this week's episode is at a lunch situation with Portia. It's a few-minute scene. It's mostly, you know, Porsche talking about how Simon did her wrong in this green card situation and his five marriages. A lot going on. And then there's a little bit of the Portia and Drew and Dennis stuff. But Kenya is, like, truly just there as, like, a backboard.
Starting point is 00:17:48 Like, when you're playing, when you're at, like, the tennis court and you know, there's, like, the full courts and then they have the part where it's just, like, a wall, basically, and you can, like, hit back with yourself. It feels like that is the role that Kenya is occupying this season. Because, again, no confessionals, no solo scenes. We're not seeing any of her personal storyline. It is so off-putting. And my good friend Gibson John said on his podcast that he feels like he understands if Bravo felt the need to punish Kenya for what happened, but that watching the show right now, it feels like we the viewers are being punished as well. And I don't disagree. I mean, it's a tough situation. I don't know what I would recommend that they do in a case like this. It just, it feels like the show is pretty much firing on all cylinders. But then one of the engines is just like, some. buttering a little bit because it's not there. So the cast after these two episodes kind of feels like it's falling into like three duos within Kenya as an unfortunate like ghost in the machine.
Starting point is 00:18:54 So Portia and Shemia, it makes sense. It's a classic duo. They go way back. You know, they're going to have each other's back. Maybe they're going to have some tension. You know, Porsche was quite a bit late to the birthday party. I'm very interested to see throughout this season if there is any kind of of rift feels like too strong of a word, but any sort of like descent between Portia and Shamiya, because we do see that Shamiya is getting some heat applied to her over her, you know, perceived lapdog status with Portia. And that brings me to our second duo, which to me is kind of an unexpected, fun little twist that Angela and Drew Sadorra seemed to be kind of bonding and sticking together in a way that I didn't know anything about them to think that
Starting point is 00:19:49 they wouldn't be friends. But after Angela kind of stayed quiet in the first episode to see her all of a sudden, hype up with, you know, at the workout, which, by the way, what happened to drop it with Drew? You're telling me that we're getting a scene. At a gym where Drew is like hosting a workout with Shemia and Angela. And we're not getting a single Drop It with Drew reference. What is happening to our history here? Things are being trimmed and cut, taken out of textbooks. Drop It With Drew was one of the funniest, silliest things that ever happened on this show.
Starting point is 00:20:26 And now it's like it never happened. Drew, look, I know that you don't have that kind of follow through with your business ventures. But can we not get the producers to even drop in a little Drop It with? Drew. Drop it with Drew is just so fun to say. I couldn't help it. But when we see Angela kind of digging into Shamiya a little bit and saying, oh, well, when you were bringing this up, when you were asking about Dennis for Portia, I was like, oh, oh, she says you were being Portia's assistant. this is not what I expect it. I think that this is a natural, you know, line of questioning. I think it would have been strange if Shamiya came on the show this season full time and didn't get that sort of questioning of like, oh, so are you just Porsche's soldier?
Starting point is 00:21:19 Are you Porsche's assistant? Are you Porsche's ride or die? And I didn't expect, though, to have it coming from Angela. And for Angela to kind of be sticking with Drew. I think that's super interesting. Obviously, you know, Shamiya's friendship with Portia is going to cause problems for her with Kelly this season already. I don't want Portia and Shemia to have some major falling out because of like the new girls in the group asking questions. But I do think that it is a nice thing to see kind of pressure applied a little bit. And it makes it feel like everybody's on more of a level playing field.
Starting point is 00:21:58 If everybody can sort of come for everybody else and there's no kind of off-limits topics, I think it gives you a better show. Now, the other duo, Kelly and Brittany, look, I don't know. I don't know. The energy we're getting from Kelly and Brittany, it's a little funny. They are not kind of the standouts of this episode to me. We see Kelly. She's working on her new Nana's location because her ex-husband,
Starting point is 00:22:28 close down the original location. So she still has one, but she's opening another one. And then this like business partner guy is like, we are in jeopardy. And I'm like, you are doing too much. It's, it's a lot. I don't know. And then Brittany, the scene we see of her at home and she's like, yeah, like, um, you know, my husband and I, we met doing insurance and he was my client. I'm like, the insurance connections again. The flyest, sexiest parties in the city. I love that for her. But she wants a new house, she wants a baby, her mom is living there, they want, you know, space for her, it's a different room, her and her husband seem to be on different pages. Jury is still out for me there, but seeing Kelly and Brittany kind of catch up together, get to know each other a little bit,
Starting point is 00:23:15 it does not seem like this friendship runs particularly deep, I would just say. I'm interested. I'm interested, they're sitting there with their little cheese plates and they're hilariously shaped wine glasses. I'm like, is that a, is that a champagne flute that's way too wide? Or is it like a white wine glass that is, for some reason, a ribbed cylinder? It kind of looked like a, like a candlestick holder that would be like on the table at a wedding reception in a bad way. Look, something that will never grow old to me on housewives is just seeing the ridiculous glassware that people have in their homes. Whether it's like the, the Versace wine glasses or just like, you know,
Starting point is 00:24:02 Flup's Castle looking shit in Mary Cosby's home. These women are out here spending ungodly amounts of money on some of the, the ugliest glasses, flutes, coops on the planet. And that to me, that's the power of housewives, because I don't know anybody who has that in their home. I want to see that on TV. But the biggest kind of conflict this episode. And the most interesting thing, and the thing that I think we'll probably have strong reactions, both good and bad, from people, is Portia requesting and receiving permission to break the fourth wall in the opening scene at Shemiyah's birthday and talk about the reason that she is so pissed off at Drew, which is, you tried to get Dennis to film with you.
Starting point is 00:24:53 And she says that Drew is a lowdown, dirty individual. Lowdown is such a good housewives insult. Also, like, married to medicine coded. Like, I feel like Quad has called a lot of people low down. It's just, I love it. But so, Portia says that she has cared for Drew. She gave her the coveted go-naked hair ambassadorship. You know, if that's not love, what is.
Starting point is 00:25:21 And so after she asks to break the fourth wall, she accuses Drew of trying to get Dennis to film with her. And she says that this is really the only real issue that she has. That she doesn't care if Drew is talking to Dennis. She doesn't care if Drew is working with Dennis. But that the thing that she is angry about is that she and Dennis have worked so hard to get to a point where they have this solid relationship and they can co-parent and they can be friends and all of this. And she is worried that if Dennis comes on this platform via somebody else in the cast, that there is going to be some bullshit. There's going to be some drama that is going to mess with this piece that they have created. And she basically, and she says this to Dennis at the end of the episode when he's there at the play place, which looks kind of fun.
Starting point is 00:26:15 I don't know. I was like, Pilar, I would hang out with Pilar while Dennis and Porsch are, you know, hashing it out. But that basically she's like, look, this is, this is shady, this is messy, that there's, that you're linking up with another housewife in, in whatever way. I don't know if they're, you know, getting it on or just getting getting, getting in the stew. But that everybody is going to see it this way when the, the former baby daddy who she was engaged to is coming back through another housewife, like tail as old as time, the housewife hunters go back to season three of OC. This is a classic. A classic thing. Go back to Harry Dubin. Go back to, you know, Peter Thomas. We've seen these men before. And Dennis, like, popping back up this season in any way, but with Portia, people are going to interpret it that way. Porsche knows it. We know it. It's obvious. The Go Naked thing is so funny to me, though, when Porsche's, like, you called production and said you were setting up a photo shoot for my company Go Naked. And Drew's like, well, yeah, like, I was going to do a photo shoot. And she's like, bitch, we don't need a photo shoot from you.
Starting point is 00:27:27 You have a contract to wear hair. Drew, I personally wouldn't trust as far as I could throw her. And I love that Cynthia calls this out. She says, Drew has been caught in a fib or two or three or four. And I think that this is what really it boils down to that I believe Portia to a certain extent when she says that she doesn't care. that she's not mad about the relationship in and of itself. But I think knowing what she's going through with Simon, knowing that he is preventing her from filming in her home,
Starting point is 00:28:04 knowing that they are still in this process of getting a divorce and also protecting Bilar's piece, I think that Portia coming back to the show this season probably was like a big decision for her in terms of where she is in her life, what she is exposing, what she is choosing to share, We're only two episodes into this season, but it would not surprise me if Portia was going into this season being pretty meticulous about what was and wasn't going to be on the show. And I don't think that drama with Dennis is something that she was anticipating being a part
Starting point is 00:28:42 of her narrative this season. And so I do believe that she was really taken aback that Drew would kind of go behind her back to bring Dennis back into the picture because Dennis is not. somebody that we have really like spent time with since that weird cursed spin-off that Portia had like he's not a I mean obviously they're co-parenting but he's not like a public figure in that way at least not to me if you're seeing the hot dog king all over your Instagram I'm so sorry but like this week was my first time really like laying eyes on Dennis in a few years so Drew Drew you got to check yourself before you wreck yourself
Starting point is 00:29:23 because it's episode two. And everybody already knows that you are allegedly a liar. Everybody already thinks you're messy. The only person who doesn't have an issue with it, I guess, is Angela. Angela's like, yeah, whatever. I have five properties that I'm renovating. I'm married to Charles locally. I got bigger fish to fry.
Starting point is 00:29:48 Look, I had a lot to say about this episode. And for episode two of a season that's been, partially rebooted. Having a lot to say, it's a good sign. I'm excited to stick with the season, and I hope everybody else does too. But that is where we're going to leave it for today. I'll be back later this week, obviously, with lots more Bravo topics.
