Mention It All - You Don’t Dog The Hair Girl (RHONJ)
Episode Date: June 24, 2024Dylan kicks off the new week with some boots-on-the-ground reporting (sort of) from the WWHL 15th Anniversary special. Then, he turns his attention to a very hectic episode of RHONJ, which is extremel...y watchable, even as the cast dynamic becomes more and more unsustainable. Lots to unpack: Jackie and Teresa’s bizarre symbiotic relationship takes yet another turn, Paul continues to make us uncomfortable, and Dolores is dunzo with Jackie. But it all comes to a head with Danielle and Jennifer’s altercation at the Tulum party, and Dylan shares all his thoughts on the hair girl drama. Learn more about your ad choices. Mention It All
A Bravo by Betches podcast
We don't say that
But now we said it
With me Dylan Hafer
We're going to check me both
Hey everyone
Welcome back to the mention at all podcast
I'm Dylan Hafer
It's Monday
And we have a dozy of a real house
I have a real house size
of New Jersey episode to talk about
First I want to just mention
Last week I had the
Great Good Fortune
To be invited down to the Watch
What Happens Live Clubhouse
for my something something time for the 15th anniversary special taping.
It's going to air later this month.
I think it's on the 30th.
But it was truly a time to be had.
They just released the list of guests that are there.
And it's everybody you would want.
It's Sonia and Luan.
It's Portia and Fadra.
Teresa was there too with Melania.
And the funniest thing was we were waiting downstairs outside the building.
And if you've ever been to watch what happens live,
You know that they tell you what time to be there.
You arrive at the studio and you sort of line up outside the front door until they're ready to bring you upstairs.
And they like check your IDs and get you all, you know, squared away.
Whatever.
It's a great experience.
Love the team there so much.
But so I mean a bunch of a bunch of friends of the pod, honestly, we were there with the comments by Bravo ladies.
Our friend Sarah Galley was there.
Jared Alexander, Gibson, Johnson.
The crew, it was really a crew.
we're waiting and a black car pulls up and we're like oh like who could this be like is it is it somebody fun
Teresa and louis walk out of the car and then Melania to follows looking like she's going to prom amazing just the most
Melania she could look and so they're walking into the building and we're like oh like hey it was
it was like we were at like a Disney World meet and greet we're like Teresa hey yay and as she's walking in she turns to us she's like
one, blah, love, love, love.
And then she goes, Melania's here too.
And we're like, Melania, yay!
And then she walks in the door, two seconds later,
pokes her head back out and goes,
and you say how to Louie?
And we're like, hi, Louie.
Like the, it was like air getting let out of a balloon,
how like excited we were to be greeting Teresa.
And then like, Melania, it's like, oh, yes, of course.
Melania. And it's like, oh, Louie's here too. Great. Just what I wanted.
Anyway, no, it was a lot of fun to be there at that special taping. I won't get into the details
of what happened on the special because I want, you should all watch it. And we'll talk about it later.
But yeah, just a wild experience. I have been to watch what happens live probably more times
than is healthy at this point. But hey, I feel very lucky and very fortunate to be there.
But speaking of Teresa and Louis and Melania, we got to talk about Real Housewives of New Jersey.
I mean, I don't know.
This season, I feel like everybody out there.
I don't know who they are, but like they want us to hate this season of Jersey.
They want us to think it's a mess.
And I look, I get it.
I get that it's, there's a lot going on.
It's, you know, maybe it's too toxic.
Maybe it's just me.
I can't hate this.
season of Jersey. I sue me. I want what I want. I like what I like and I'm having a good time.
Is it, is it dark at a certain point? Perhaps. Do we have a physical altercation that we're
going to have to talk about in this episode? We do, but I, I don't know. It's just,
it's working for me in a way that I didn't necessarily expect it to. And I think the,
the knowledge that the reunion situation is what it is and there's maybe going to be,
some sort of reboot, rejiggering, shakeup happening at the end of this season is like making
it seem like this season is terrible. But I am kind of eating it up. Because we have so much going on
with this group. That's why it's laughable when Teresa's getting ready for her Tulum party
and she's in the kitchen with Gia and with Louie. And of course, she's wearing her Namaste
a bitch's t-shirt for at least the third time on camera this season.
Just it never,
it never stops being funny that she is relentlessly hawking this podcast that no longer exists.
Like, oh, it's just, you couldn't have scripted it more perfectly.
But beside the point, it is so funny when Gia is in the kitchen, she's like, well,
you want, you want me to remind you to bring out the dessert, these Portuguese pastries that you have.
And that shouldn't be an issue because there shouldn't be any.
drama, so we're all good.
It's like, gee, I'm my love.
What world are you living in?
What do you mean there's no drama?
Teresa's like, well, I mean,
first of all, there's this thing with Jackie and Dolores.
They haven't seen each other since the whatever.
And then there's the thing with Jenna Danielle.
And it's this whole thing about the charity and all of that.
And then there's, it's like, what do you mean?
There's no drama.
Everybody hates each other.
And that's just how I like it.
That's just how it should be.
I don't want the Tulum party with no drama.
Like, I don't care about the Portuguese custard that you have for dessert.
I mean, I'm sure it's delicious.
If I was there, I would care about it.
I would be like, you know, I'm sorry that she slapped you in the face.
Can I get a custard on the way out?
But yeah, there's a lot going on.
So good, so good.

So let's back up a little bit.
Let's back up.
Teresa's planning her party.
She and Jen Aiden and Dolores meet up for this.
meditation, there's like a sound bowl, there's a rainstick. I,
housewives just like, there's never, I don't think we've ever gone more than three episodes
on any given franchise without having some kind of healer or spiritualist or ritual person or
meditation expert or yoga thing, Reiki healer, like there's, they're oozing out of the
pores of these Bravo shows. And these ones, I don't know, it's not the most notable ceremony we've
had. Like, you know, there have been more iconic ones, like in Salt Lake when they went to that,
like, spiral-looking thing in Zion and like, you know, whatever. There are so many, so many
iconic moments. But this is basically just an opportunity for them to sit around and catch each other
up on everything that's been happening. Dolores lets them know that she and Paul are going into
business together for eco-electrists. Eco-electress.
I don't know. Jen is very skeptical about it. Everybody is skeptical about it. Look, it just seems like a little bit of a hairbrained something. It seems like there's more in it for Polly than there is for Dolores. You know, again, he's still not divorced. She says he's doing everything he can and that it doesn't matter and she doesn't need to be married. But then Jen's like, didn't he say he already bought a ring? Like, look, Jen Aiden, she doesn't always have her head screwed on straight. But in a situation like this, she's not wrong. It's like, you're
It kind of feels like you're changing your tune because now you don't, like,
Dolores doesn't want to seem like she isn't getting what she wants.
So maybe she's adjusting what she says she wants.
So it seems like everything is good and exactly what she, you know, her dream scenario.
I just want her to be happy.
And I'm like, don't change your tune for somebody else.
Like we see him later.
He's like, no, Dolores, I told you.
I forgot the surgery.
I walk.
And it's like, don't be with.
First of all, does Dolores need the surgery?
No, but it's up to her.
And if she's going to be with a guy who's like, if you get the surgery, I'm going to leave you.
That's not the guy.
I really hope that that was like some weird blip with Paul because I'm like, I don't, I don't want that.
That's not, that's not energy that seems like, seems healthy.
I don't know.
We don't do all tomatoms here.
That's not the vibe.
This scene with the three of them at the meditation.
in whatever place. It's a good old catch-up. And at the same time, we have Melissa and Danielle at the
new Envy location, and they're getting caught up on all of their side of things. And I love,
this is like one of my favorite housewives editing. It's not a trick. It's like an editing,
just, I don't know, a practice that they do. When they have like the two small group scenes
happening at the same time, and we're just getting their commentary back and forth on the same
events, but like from two different perspectives. And I always am so curious. I'm like,
they must have to chop these scenes up to bits to get them to match up the way they do.
Because I'm like, unless they literally are walking in there with a matching like discussion
outline for each of these groups, it's like, okay. So first you're going to talk about
Dolores and Pauli. Dolores is going to talk about Jennifer's issue with Danielle and
whether that's legit. And then you're going to talk about Jackie and the stuff with
Jackie and Margaret and Dolores, and you're going to do it in that order and for roughly three
minutes each. It's like, I know that they must just be like hacking these scenes to bits, but it
still hits just the same. The stuff with Jackie, though, is kind of wild. Because I always think
with storylines that feel a little forced, it's like everybody usually seems to be, you know,
at least on a same page about like, yeah, we can all, we'll go along with this.
We can, sure, this sounds good.
I don't have a problem with it.
But the way that they are not even trying to be slick about the Jackie and Teresa
situation, Teresa saying on camera, who cares about Jackie?
I only need her because I want her to take Margaret down.
Think about that.
Even if you fucking hate Margaret.
Like that's fine.
To be that blatant on camera that it's like, oh, yeah, this girl that's coming around.
Yeah.
Like, oh, I don't give a fuck about her.
I'm using her.
I'm using her for this very specific self-serving purpose.
It is, it's, it blew my mind to see them just outright talking about this on camera.
Her saying, Margaret is the root of all even.
which first one, it's so dramatic. I can't. It's like, if you want to say she has an arsenal,
it's like, yes, she has an arsenal. Yes, we've, we've established that. But the root of all
evil, I'm like, there are, there are like dictators out there in the world. There are terrorists.
There are, they're serial killers. And you're like, Margaret. Margaret is the worst person
on the face of the earth.
And Teresa, not only does she not care about Jackie,
but she's basically saying,
I am only going to keep up this thing of being friends,
quote unquote, with Jackie,
if she puts up and uses all the information
that she has about Margaret for my benefit of taking her down.
So when she hears that Jackie alluded to Margaret
saying terrible things about Dolores and Polly,
she's like, oh, what were the thing?
I got to make her say it.
It's giving like, Teresa, this might go bad.
Teresa is like Ursula and Jackie is like Ariel.
And she's like, I want your voice.
You're going to sing for me.
You're going to sing all those secrets that Margaret told you.
And you're going to, it's like the Little Mermaid analogy.
I don't know if it actually works.
But like, it just is so, I can't get over how.
transparent it is.
And not even transparent.
It's like there just isn't, it's not like a see-through window.
It's like there's just no glass there.
Like there's nothing even to see through.
It's so just open.
It's out in the open.
And to be fair, Jackie kind of knows.
Or at least she like isn't completely in the dark about it.
Because when she shows up to that Tulum party later,
she sees Gia in the driveway and she's like,
oh my God, I'm on the book tour.
And everybody just loves, they're living for me and your mom.
And when she said that, I'm like, I don't, I'm not somebody who really likes to ding housewives for liking attention.
I'm like, we're, you're on housewives.
We've, we've cleared a basic threshold of everybody here just liking attention.
But when she, the way she said that, like, it was this like big flex that it's like, yeah, everybody's obsessed with you and Teresa getting a lot.
because it's fucking weird.
Like, people aren't obsessed because they think you're this, like, iconic dynamic duo.
It's not like when you see Sonia and Luann walk into watch what happens live together,
and you're like, oh, my God, my favorites.
It's like, yeah.
It's like the lion and the mouse, like, hanging out together.
Ursula and Ariel aren't going to a party together.
They're not friends.
So it's just like it feels like they're just, there's not even, like, like, there's not even, like,
like a pretend air of authenticity to this friendship.
And I think for that reason, like, I don't, everybody can be friends with who they want to.
I'm not, I'm not a Teresa or maybe even a Margaret where I'm like, oh, like this, you can't,
you know, why are you socializing with the enemy?
It's like if Jackie, if it felt like Jackie had come by this relationship with Teresa at all
naturally, I think I would be able to kind of believe some of the like history
rewriting and all of that. But it just feels like so cynical to me. And so the thing that
happened with Dolores last week with the screenshot and the text, in a way, I'm kind of like,
yeah, I'm kind of here for that because I think that you do kind of need to be called on your
bullshit a little bit. And obviously, I know that.
that text situation didn't really impact her friendship with Teresa, except for, you know,
maybe it solidified it because now she is like Margaret is persona non grata to Jackie now,
I guess.
But like the situation with Dolores, when, first of all, Jackie and Dolores have always had
this like sort of tense relationship.
Like a couple seasons ago, they had like a fight and it kind of was like, oh, I,
I don't know if we've fully unpacked this.
Like they made up and it was fine.
But like they're just not,
I don't think they're really like each other's cup of tea in a real way.
Like I think they've always kind of held each other at an arm's length maybe.
But it was interesting to see, you know, when,
when Dolores is talking to Paul, she says that Jackie is a nuclear bomb right now
because Jen and Teresa are going to squeeze her.
And every bad thing anyone's ever said is going to come out.
Like, the fact that Dolores can look at the situation with Jackie and Teresa and Jennifer
and recognize that, like, it's not slick to us as the viewers.
And it's clearly not slick to anyone in the group because it's like, yeah, like, you're,
you're being, like, milked for this information.
And when they're done getting this information from you, when you've sung your last song,
Teresa is not going to be inviting you on the private jet to Tulum for the next birthday trip.
Jackie's never getting that invite.
Just like she's probably never getting her full-time housewife slot back again.
Because once you slip, it's really hard to claw your way back up.
I mean, people have done it before.
Luanne was a friend for one season.
It has happened.
I don't think Jackie's ever getting that full-time contract back.
Because once you slip, it's really hard to get back on the ledge once you're hanging on by
like two fingers. And Jackie's doing a good job this season of like finding a new foothold,
trying to claw her way up. And she's obviously like getting more screen time because of it.
And I'm happy for that for her. She's getting to talk about her book, I guess. Or at least how
everyone is obsessed with her and Teresa on the book tour. I don't think she actually is making
meaningful strides in terms of like where she's going to end up. And her conversation with
Dolores at this party.
To me was so, it was so interesting because, first of all, before Dolores even talks to her,
she's saying how everyone knows how bad she feels.
She's like, oh, like, you know how bad I felt.
And like, it just is the kind of thing where it feels like she's coming at it from a
perspective of like damage control rather than like actual trying to make.
amends. And she starts the conversation with Dolores with, listen, you know how sorry I am.
And I just don't think that that's like, I think on this on the scale of one to 10 of apologies from like a one,
which is like a Ramona, like I'm sorry, I'm sorry, okay, I'm sorry to like a real meaningful like
we're building back our relationship better than ever. I feel like listen, you know how sorry I am
is like a three. Like the.
the kind of glossing over the actual apology,
it feels like you're sort of like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You know, I'm sorry.
Can we just move on?
And Dolores with Jackie?
It's a no from her.
She's like, yeah, I did something shitty,
but the real bad guy in the situation is Margaret.
Because we've all vented about everybody in the group.
You know that we've all, you know, we all say stuff about everybody.
But she's the worst.
And this, the fact that.
that she would do that to me? I was devastated. And that's the end of my friendship with Margaret.
And what's so weird about this strategy that she's employing with Dolores is that she seems to
think that making Margaret look bad will somehow make Dolores like her more or forgive her.
And Dolores and Margaret are still friends. Like, yeah, Dolores, I guess, has questions about what
what Margaret may have said about her,
and she certainly doesn't want Margaret to say more about her in the future.
But, like, you don't have a common enemy in Margaret.
So the fact that Jackie is thinking,
she's kind of like throwing Margaret under the bus to try and fix things with Dolores.
It's like, that's not even a good strategy.
And then obviously it doesn't work because Dolores is just like,
she's like, well, sometimes friendships need a break.
And you think she's talking about Jackie and Margaret.
And then she like flips it.
And she goes,
and so does this one.
Oh,
Dolores, she's just,
she's spitting bars sometimes
and saying sometimes friendships need a break
and so does this one.
It's very Lauren Conrad,
you know, like I want to forgive and forget
and like, you know,
I'm ready to forgive you and forget you.
Is that Lauren?
I don't know, it's been a while since I watched the hills.
But like, oh, God, what a moment.
And Dolores in the confessional, she's like,
look, Jackie talks a lot of shit.
And that's why she's in this situation right now.
Keep your mouth shut, girlfriend.
friend. I don't think that's advice that Jackie is going to heed because Jackie, I think we've
established, she's in a position of liking attention. And if she wants Teresa's light to keep shining
on her, it's been made clear that she's going to have to sing for her supper. Just like Ariel.
Again, okay, I think that's the last, I think that's the last time I'm going to reference
The Little Mermaid. Truly don't know where that has come from. But now I kind of want to watch it.

Canva,
the thing that makes anything a thing.
But we have to talk about Jennifer and Danielle.
Oh my God.
From the beginning of this season,
from the first inkling of tension between these two,
it has always,
always felt like there was something more, something below the surface, something unsaid.
And I didn't know whether that was something that was about the show, and they weren't saying it because it was
fourth wall-ish. I didn't know if it's because there was something that was genuinely really dark or
below the belt, or if it was just something petty. And Jen was like, I decided I hate this girl,
and I need a reason. So I'm going to invite Lena to my Biscuits birthday party.
I will say that every week that I have the chance to.
But Jen, so Danielle senses this too.
And she's like, what happened?
Because it can't just be the step and repeat.
It can't just be the Lina and the VIP and the whatever.
Also, I love Jen being like, you're a multi-millionaire.
And Jen being like, not a multimillionaire.
It's like one.
First of all, like, is Jen not a multimillionaire?
Because if not, like, I mean, the way they live, I hope they have a good, like, financial planner or something.
I don't know.
That's not my business.
But the step and repeat issue is just like the whole charity thing.
The idea of whether Danielle paid herself back for this event, first of all, like, I think they're talking about two different things.
Because Danielle is saying, yeah, of course, I paid back the expenses before I donated the rest.
And Teresa and Jennifer are specifically getting at Danielle paying herself like an appearance fee essentially.
And I don't know if Danielle has really clarified whether or not she did that.
If she did, that's a little questionable to me.
If it really is just like I paid the vendors and like the costs and then I donated the rest, that seems normal.
Whatever.
The step and repeat, I just can't.
But then Danielle is like, but what else?
What else?
Why don't you like me?
Why don't you like me so much?
And Jen is like, well, there was something else.
It's something that turned me off, but I don't want to say it.
She's like, just say it.
We're here.
You already hate me.
What's going to happen?
And I was so not prepared for what this reveal is because I was like, oh, my God, like, is there a cheating thing?
Is Jen talking to the brother?
Like, what's going on?
There's got to be something just like this deep, dark secret.
And then when she just starts with,
The girl who does your hair extensions, Marissa, she asked me to be a model.
And I thought it was like a model for like a masterclass, like, you know, like just doing this thing.
But then it actually was this whole photo shoot to sell stuff on her website and I wasn't getting paid for it.
And it's like, wait, wait, wait, wait.
So you already had like a makeup artist or a, there was already one hair girl.
Like I think Lena, Lena's a hair girl, right?
And now it's another hair girl.
But so in my head, I'm like, okay, like, what's actually like?
I'm still, I'm not quite grasping.
But then Danielle immediately was like, you're a piece of shit, motherfucker.
I'm like, okay, there's something here that I didn't realize.
So essentially, Danielle called Jen when this hair girl, Marissa thing was happening.
And she, Danielle's version of events is like, I wanted to make sure you knew what you were getting into.
so that you didn't agree to something that would then create issues for you with your hair girl.
Because everybody has a hair girl.
Of course, everybody has a hair girl.
It's Jersey.
Your hair girl is like second to God.
You know, it's the father, the son, the hair girl.
But so Danielle is basically like I was being a good friend giving you a heads up that you probably shouldn't agree to this if it was going to cause issues for you.
But Jen flipped this and sees it as Danielle being a bad.
person because she like betrayed her hair girl and basically went behind her back and was like,
yeah, don't do this.
You don't want to do this.
And the fact that this is what led us to this place, it's just so fucking perfect.
The sentence that comes out of Jen's mouth, this is verbatim, I had to write it down, so this
is verbatim, that's a behavior trait I would never do to my hair girl.
You don't you don't fuck with the hair girl
I just can't like
We need to hear from Marissa
We need to hear from Lena
Like all the hair girls of New Jersey
They if they're not going to do a normal reunion
Do a hair girl reunion
Bring them out
I want to see them
I want to see the hair girls
Like I want to meet Marissa
She does Dolores's hair too
After everything goes down
And somebody's like oh something with the hair girl
And Doloresa
Marissa
Marissa
I know
I know Marissa 12 years
She always does my hair.
She does a great job.
But they are so heated about this.
They're in each other's face.
They're, you know, calling each of a piece of shit, whatever, this, that, and the other thing.
And then Jen pushes Danielle.
And Danielle immediately, quick reflex, smashes her drink down on Jen's face.
And you can tell that there's like some broken something.
I think it's a plastic cup.
I saw that there was like some, some.
discourse right away that was like, there's broken glass. She could have killed her.
I saw a tweet that was like she could have severed an artery. Jen should press charges.
I'm like, look, you guys, quickly, be for real. But I do think it was a, I think it was a plastic
cup. And then obviously the, the drink, the liquid is in the face. But Jen looks fine.
She's actually quite composed. Danielle, meanwhile,
Storms off, walks through the house, but makes a little pit stop in the kitchen to yell at Bill Aiden.
He says, your wife's a dirty fucking bitch.
When you go to bed at night, you're sleeping with the devil.
And Jen, I mean, Jen's simple explanation, she dogged her hair girl.
You can't dog the hair girl.
This is so, it's wild, though, because whenever something escalates to this point on housewives,
it is the kind of thing that is really hard to then just come back from.
Like, we have another episode next week,
and it's like, I presume that Jen and Danielle aren't going to be able to, like, coexist,
at least for a little bit.
I mean, it's just not the kind of thing where it's like,
we have a lot of issues in this group,
and it's like, okay, yeah, like, you're probably not going to have Teresa and Melissa
go to lunch with a couple friends.
But if there's a full cast thing,
it's like we can make do.
Obviously, Melissa's not at the Tulum party.
That would be a bridge too far.
But like now that presumably Jen and Danielle, like,
can't be in the same room together,
while I lived for this episode,
it does kind of immediately put us in a place of like,
okay, we're starting to rack up a list of people
who can't be in the same room together.
And that is maybe not,
sustainable. And that's kind of what we saw on this past season of Potomac. It makes me think,
obviously there weren't any, um, you know, Wendy and Giselle weren't like smashing drinks
in each other's faces, but they were like unwilling to coexist. And we had a few of those dynamics.
And it really, it made, it makes for like an, a stunted season because you just, you can only
move the pieces around the board in so many different directions. And that's, I think,
with Jersey, the season, what I have enjoyed is it has felt.
like the pieces are really being shuffled.
And there has been some unexpected developments of who's getting along, who's getting closer,
who's moving in what direction.
Obviously, some of it more authentic than others.
Like, Jen Fessler just wants to have a good time.
But it does feel like this maybe will be a little bit of a shift.
And now in the back half of the season, I do feel like we're going to get down a road
where it will make more sense,
kind of why they are sort of pressing pause on this franchise a little bit and this cast.
Leading up, of course, to this finale dinner thing that Dolores is going to host at Rail Steakhouse
where there's like, you know, shattered glass on the floor.
Those real glasses.
This, I think it's plastic.
But I don't know.
I mean, there's everybody online I already see.
People are very, you know, quick to jump to conclusions about who was more in the wrong here.
obviously Danielle's drink smash was like a bigger kind of splash literally than Jen's push.
But like Jen's push was first.
But Danielle was in her face.
And right after on the episode, it's interesting to watch kind of how in real time this stuff gets litigated where it's like, Daniel's like, or Jen's like, oh yeah, I might have pushed you.
I don't remember.
I mean, if you get in my face, you don't know what's going to happen.
And it's like, well, you did push her.
I know they're not like, they don't have like instant replay in the video village in Teresa's backyard.
So they're not seeing it in real time.
But everybody seems to be like unclear on exactly what happened.
But I do love one of the only contributions from our like failed newbies this season.
We see this, this woman Tiffany talking to Teresa.
And she's like, I mean, if I got pushed, I would have thrown the drink in the face too.
And Teresa is like, yeah, yeah, me too.
So it's like, Teresa.
kind of admits that Danielle was right in a way.
I have a feeling she might change her tune once she sees the footage and be like,
well, I wouldn't have done that.
Obviously, she's in Jen space.
She asked for it.
I don't know.
I just, I mean, this episode, it was captivating, no?
If you watch this hour of TV, if you like when Housewives is like,
lighter and breezier, I get it. But if you watch this hour of TV and you're saying that you didn't
have a good time, what are we doing here? What's a... Get on or get off. You know, it's at a certain
point. That being said, I'm very nervous about where we go from here, but, you know, we got
