Starting point is 00:00:00 oh you're listening a mess okay bitch listen i feel like before we get into our guests how are we gonna work on our lateness i just i feel like that is that is us anybody who books us no we're definitely not gonna be there on the time that they say on the sheet if you ask us to be somewhere and then you show up early that's actually that it might be on you it might be on you but why would you be prompt but marie how are we gonna do this for the rest of our lives just We're just going to be 15, 20 minutes late every time. Well, it works for Lauryn Hill, so. Oh, no, I don't want to be the Lauryn Hill of comedy.
Starting point is 00:00:35 I want to be five minutes late. That's it. Sydney, it could all be so simple. If we left yesterday. If we left yesterday, we probably could have got here on time. I think I just, I thought we were recording at 2. I thought it was 2.30. I felt like I have an extra day to prepare.
Starting point is 00:00:50 And it turns out I did not. The thing is, is that I am taking cars. And I don't know why I would think taking the car in New York City prime time, prime time, anything after 10 a.m. during the week. And before 10 a.m. And before 10 a.m. Yeah, I'm going to be late. So we're going to do better. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:08 But it wouldn't be mess if we didn't show up 15 minutes late to the podcast. That's what I'm saying. If we were on time. If we were on time. Double it. If we were on time, this was going to be dry. I just want to let you know, if we're here early, just know we have nothing to say. Listen, speaking of people having things to say,
Starting point is 00:01:25 we have a guest today. Look at the professional segue. Obsessed. You are. You are the one. You see me? I'm going to be late, but I'm going to be prepared when I get here. You see it?
Starting point is 00:01:34 When you show up, you're show up. When I show up, I'm here. You're here. You're clocked in. Marie, who's our guest? Our guest today is here to talk about, to answer the question, are fans messy? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:48 We need him. He's one of the hosts of Las Culturistas He's a celebrity now He's the Prince of Christmas, babe Yeah, and he has Mariah Carey's number in his phone So, I mean, we are so lucky to have you in the building Matt Rogers What up?
Starting point is 00:02:04 How are you doing? I'm so good, and can I tell you what? I immediately have things to say What I think the lateness thing is You know, some people, they've been studies done That say people that are often late have an unconscious addiction to rushing like do you think there's something about it where you kind of get off on like the like needing to go go go because you're not gonna make it
Starting point is 00:02:27 is there something about it you might be actually like addicted to or accustomed it's not that i'm addicted to it i don't have the fire lit under my ass until i'm it's already too late for me yes like i i was at the house i had an interior designer looking at stuff i'm like what color should i paint this i'm i'm googling beds and then it was like i should eat something and then it was like no i should have left already it's adhd it's adhd but it's also for me it's just like time is just going by too fast i feel like after you hit 30 time what is it yeah it's gone it's rude by the time we talked about it we are already somewhere else yeah in another in another universe and i'm tired i remember when time was so slow yeah no yeah remember in the 20s
Starting point is 00:03:13 counting the days down to christmas as a kid yeah it was like 21 days till christmas now it's like christmas is tomorrow it's yeah it's happening right now it's basically gonna happen in 15 minutes yeah by the way this year moved faster than any year on record do you agree with me 2024 i cannot believe it's november no forget it it's almost december at this point right it's december tomorrow i feel like it's december when this comes out oh fully absolutely well are we cursed are we cursed now are we now when we do things we're just like well it's about to be over the end is coming yeah i mean i think we're a lot more nihilist than we were but i will say in regards to time and let me know how you feel about this when when you go to la and they tell
Starting point is 00:03:56 you why would you why would you say that i just want to say let me get through okay okay back coastal yeah when you go there right they tell you like i was running late for a meeting one time the first time i ever went there and i arrived like 15 minutes late and i felt messy and the person goes oh it's la everyone's 15 minutes late and i said what a dangerous thing to tell me yeah because now i'm gonna think that that's acceptable and on the table you know it's dangerous what i went on a date i was late to the date obviously and when i got there the guy was like i said oh so sorry i'm late he goes pretty women are never on time so i didn't expect you to be on time and that's in my brain and now when i'm late i'm like well you are validated
Starting point is 00:04:37 and reinforced but also when i when i feel like when i'm late i'm like well the party not gonna start until i get there so yeah so it's i am black cash for for today yeah but i'm just like Black Kesha. It's $2 signs. Black Kesha is Keisha. Keisha. I am. I am Keisha.
Starting point is 00:05:00 No, I think that if there's three people there and one person is late, it's okay. Like if you're at a dinner and that one person is missing, it's okay. The dinner can still happen. But I think if you are by yourself waiting on me, that's when I feel bad. That was my mess, though, in my 20s, like lateness. I remember one time, Sudi yelled at me one time for being 10 minutes late. And now it's kind of it's kind of rich, though, because in L.A., she's never on time. She's never on time, but she's big boss.
Starting point is 00:05:27 And so are you. Let me listen. I now I try to be exactly on time to everything. I think that's big boss energy starting right on the dot. Let's talk. Let's talk. How does that one do that? Do you schedule?
Starting point is 00:05:42 Do you see what how long it's going to take you to get there and then work your way back from there? Do you know, I literally will pick where I live based on, can I get places fast? Like in New York, I have a studio apartment in Long Island city. And the only reason really why I live there is because it's on the seven, seven train. Don't even talk to me. Yeah. This train is that girl. I've never even heard of the seven train.
Starting point is 00:06:08 I'm glad they're keeping it a secret. I don't want people even saying my girl's name because when you get on the seven in Long Island City, you are actually in Times Square in 10-15 minutes. I hated that whole sentence. That sounds like hell. I hated that in Times Square. See, and you want to know why? Well, you want to be in Times Square because, no, here's what
Starting point is 00:06:26 it is. When you're on the 7 line, there's four stops in Manhattan. It is Grand Central, Fifth Ave, Bryant Park, Times Square, and Hudson Yards. From all of those, you can get any line. So it's not even like, say you need to be all the way downtown for
Starting point is 00:06:42 something the seven to the four so the seven is uh queens is l train i think so literally okay i don't like none of those stops yeah what's in yards but you can get it's a it's a connector to the rest of the world is what i'm saying well that's what i was thinking i you know matt we've known each other for a long time i feel like what 10 years 10 years yeah when i feel like when we're all like just budding comedy people i think you were were you in ucb or i i did ucb but i was never like um like a ucb girl like i was i wasn't good at improv back in my 20s i would i made it on a mod team eventually but i had to do a lot of like stuff on the side to like get ready to be on a team is that because you're saying you i mean you don't want to be like i am an improv
Starting point is 00:07:27 well you know people they think they're like you know that's a different world i don't want i don't want to drag them but no we can drag them improv in theater i feel like it's very close it well the thing about improv is like it was like when i was trying to do it it felt like a like a specific type of person was succeeding at it and i was not one of those people but i did i was good at like sketch and wearing like a wig and stuff okay i wore a wig and screamed my entire 20s did you ever see me do characters i did the same thing i i too was that it was always me like putting on like a bitchy wig and like being some like woman with attitude yeah i i couldn't do ucb i i tried you know i got a couple scholarships you guys are stand-ups though yeah you guys are like that was
Starting point is 00:08:15 always your thing like now i remember when i started the podcast i was like people aren't going to want to hear me talking like i just didn't think of myself performing as myself as like a viable option how wrong are you look at you and how wrong i was about the other stuff because you know what didn't pay off me screaming in a wig i tried lord michael said there's the door but it still worked out i mean i mean matt you you are the prince of christmas you have an album you did a special you're on the road i mean you have fans no that this is this is honestly i actually while i didn't think it would work out the way it did i was like there's no way i'm happy it worked out the way it worked out and like i will say like transitioning into the fans of it
Starting point is 00:09:01 all um because i know that's what we're talking about our fans messy the reason why i have everything i have is because of the podcast the podcast you're saying that's on the record of mess everything you have everything i have is because of the podcast yes like being feeling like i have people that listen week in and week out and you guys know like they feel connected to you in that way because you that you let them in and it it does develop into something that can sometimes feel a little bit like parasocial and and every they know that but the thing is like it i do have like a relationship with them as you guys do with your people because you come on here and you share your mess it it gets weird when like you share so much mess that you feel like
Starting point is 00:09:47 it's part of your job to do that because then you have to think about the people in your life who are affected oh and you know you you know we have gotten in trouble for this before we all have something that you're like they'll never hear they'll never know they don't ever get back to them that's the episode they listen to yeah matt where what was the moment in the pod where you're like oh like you have reached that moment where you're like i have to pull back from the fans I literally remember. It was when I was dating Henry Kapurski. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:17 I do remember. I was 25, and we started the podcast when I was 26. So Henry and I had been probably together for about eight, nine months, and then we started the podcast, never thinking the podcast was ever going to be successful. I remember one time I looked at the analytics, and I was like, oh, my God. I was like, Bo, 65 people listened to this episode. Shut up. Shut up.
Starting point is 00:10:39 Wait, I thought you were going to be like 65,000 people. When I saw that 65 people had listened, I was like, this is like all of our friends and maybe some of their people that they told. I was like, this is crazy because I'm thinking like, remember that podcast Elise Morales would do important shit, not weird or something like that. Like she used to do a podcast and I used to think like this podcast is cool. Like and I was like, how many people listen? She was like, oh, you know, a few hundred, whatever. I was like, that would be amazing. That was all I wanted.
Starting point is 00:11:08 And then suddenly a lot of people listen to it. And that happened during my first relationship. And I would be popping off about me and Henry's relationship. Full therapy session in the booth saying everything. Like, I listen back sometimes and I'm like, you were really out here saying what you were really going through. Like, sometimes I'm like, I wish I had kept a diary. And then I realized I have kept a diary for nine years. It's called Las Culturistas.
Starting point is 00:11:33 And it's a public diary. Like, he finally one day said to me, like, I don't want you to say that. And I was like. And you were like, what? no girls is eating it up i and i think like the immediately i was like oh the girls are eating it up and so that's why i have to like understand this is someone who i'm not just talking about that one time when we did xyz for me i'm talking about it for him too and he doesn't have a voice on the conversation so and then i went through like one like bad bad bad bad bad breakup with
Starting point is 00:12:05 someone that you met yes yeah and um like one of the things part of the fallout was like he was like please don't talk about it on the podcast and i was like i would never blast anyone like by name publicly on the podcast anymore but then it's just like it's a rub right because it's like part of the reason why you're bonded to your fans and why you're successful is because you open up about certain things that go on in your life and all i wanted to do was open up about that but i I felt, like, restricted and self-conscious about, you know, whatever discourse about my personal life that my fans would have. He's stifling the art. He's stifling the art.
Starting point is 00:12:42 He's stifled a lot. But what about this? What about, like, because we know that you're a public figure or, like, us and people say things like that. Isn't there a moment where it's like, so don't do shit that you'll make me want to say something on my platform? It's very, like, Taylor Swift vibes. Like, if you don't want a song written about you, like, don't mess up. yeah but also it's like you know i can i can even be adult enough and be like it is only my take that i'm giving and so it's never gonna be fair because there are two sides to the story whether
Starting point is 00:13:11 i want to admit it or not like everything i say isn't the empirical truth but you know it is a little bit like that it's like you didn't not know who you were dating especially because you the reason why you came up is because you liked was a fan you know wait do you think that people that you date and I ask you this sometimes Marie too that these people aren't enamored with you and they know your work you don't you're not afraid of someone legit being a fan and able to maneuver their way in and then now I am yeah now I am I think that there are some people that you know they hear you and you don't you don't know the other side of them so that's why they can come in and infiltrate but i feel like somebody who's doing a lot and being so nice and and just being
Starting point is 00:14:01 like endearing that's a red flag for me well someone being nice is a red flag too nice too nice like they're they're doing anything and everything you want them to do oh i'll do it oh i got this i got this i'll do that i've had to end a relationship or two because of that because you're saying all the right things you're doing all the right things i'm waiting for the other shoot or drive are you a are you a fanatic well what i'm saying is you gotta keep your eyes open for red flags and really listen to yourself like like your gut is never wrong and you and sometimes it can feel like your gut is against what chemistry is so like a couple times like i've had situations where i felt very like taken away by someone you know what i mean like you but also
Starting point is 00:14:44 you're gay so i feel like the gays do that the gays do do that the gays do they lesbians will move right in yeah they'll merge the bank account we deserve yeah what do you mean yeah yeah we say i stand ten toes so the thing is like lesbian to the date well you'll make like an emotional commitment and be there gay guys will just be fucking each other okay and that's what gets messy in the gay community is it's everyone has fucked everyone else and it's like it's almost really difficult as someone who really doesn't like sharing i don't even like to share appetizers Not even calamari for the table? Matt, I didn't know this about you.
Starting point is 00:15:20 I'm not a sharer. You're not doing a shishito peppers? Listen, I will share appetizers. I lied about that. Okay. Here's what I don't do. Here's what I don't do. Oh, I know you.
Starting point is 00:15:30 I think you might be like Marie, too, a little bit. Like, we have to agree that we're sharing, but you can't have your own plate. And then all of a sudden, I'm like trying to pick up your... I don't want your fork on my plate. I'm just saying, like, my entree is my entree. and if it's a thing at the beginning where it's like it's a stated fact like yes we both want both these things so it's going to be a split situation that but i'm not good at it you know what i mean it's not my natural inclination to share so you can imagine sexually up in the gay
Starting point is 00:16:00 community i don't love it when i know that someone i'm really into has been someone has fucked all my friends like all your friends you gotta how many friends you got matt libu six seven eight and they're all and they're all good-looking influential gays in Hollywood that's who fault is that that's you man you gotta get some uglier friends yeah ugly and regular people how about that can we talk about this so one of my best friends Dave Mazzoni yeah best friend to us all very close sister to all of us friend of the pod yeah and did you know his like new like beloved is someone I've known for years and years and years and years I didn't know that yes he was just a new guy i've known dave's new boyfriend for like a really long time but he was always la
Starting point is 00:16:42 and now they both live in new york etc but we all met at coachella and literally we met in a group and we were all when it was clear that that was going down we were all going through the rolodex like where are the trauma points here like who's fucked who you know what i'm saying and luckily like it all didn't matter but it is a thing with gays and it's a lie that everyone is thing in new york though it's a thing in new york i think because the you think just because it's a big city but it is every city has this it's yeah i feel like every city has it because everybody kind of knows the same people this is why i've never hooked up with a comedian because that to me feels very incestuous it would be very i don't want to be with somebody that you've been with and
Starting point is 00:17:23 i don't want to bang a male comedian that's oh that's the thing come on i don't know if i've heard good things about just one male comedian one male comedian that might name one male comedian might be on NBC might have a couple specials you know they got a private jet don't let it fool you that's not the one you're not looking for that they might have a couple specials but they still have that mommy issue
Starting point is 00:17:45 I think the more specials the more mommy issues if you change the order of the letters of the word special it spells issues but like yeah no I it's hard because I would
Starting point is 00:18:01 like to find my like boyfriend and this has been my ideal situation if you know who i am just tell me i've gone on dates three dates with guys and then they told me hey i feel like i i should have told you at the beginning i like really do listen to your podcast or like i've been to xyz show and i'm like i want to be like it's okay it's not it's not okay i don't want to date anybody who i feel like knows more about me than i know about them because then you rewind the tape and you're like i've been telling you about myself and you sat here and pretended to listen that is kind of sick that's kind of weird
Starting point is 00:18:35 okay let's talk about the worst fans of all time you know like a like a yolanda selena situation i hope we never have to have a yolanda well i think my issue is that i am so friendly that i scare the yolandas off i think that there's a moment yeah there's a moment especially when we were having so no no marie remember we would have uh you know the warm-up we we the knitting factory all these people who are like marie is clearly just like oh hey don't touch me i'm like giving them my number. I'm like, yeah, let's get something to eat. I'm talking to them.
Starting point is 00:19:31 Didn't you make one of them your assistant? Hey, wait, hold on now. Wait, so you think that the way, wait, you someone who made a Yolanda your assistant are trying to tell us how to handle Yolanda? Girl, girl. What it is, you got to bring them in. You got to reel them in.
Starting point is 00:19:48 And you have to fill them out. They're already in, Sydney. I know they're in. And that takes away from the, I want to kill you because you're like, oh you didn't already you already know me you know what I mean that I think the disguise of like the people who are psychopaths or sociopaths they have to feel like they got one over you but if it's me it's like hey come on what you want what you need come on I know you crazy I'm crazy too
Starting point is 00:20:10 you can't out crazy me okay yeah you can't out crazy crazy they don't like that no they want you to be like hapless yes like a victim yes first of all off guard I feel like the thing is and one thing i want to like truly make clear and this is not just me being like but i really do like love the people that like are coming to the show is like that that are i love them i am the same way though i will give too much and the thing that bothers me is when i feel really exhausted after it's nothing anyone did it's that i gave so much of myself because if someone comes up i still have like scarcity mindset of like oh i have to like really give this person like A lot of my attention
Starting point is 00:20:54 Because I feel like It's all gonna go away At any second You know what I mean Like I'm not like Comfortable I can I can
Starting point is 00:20:59 Kind of identify with that But for me It's You know I When I When somebody comes up I know they've spent the money
Starting point is 00:21:06 I know they spent the time They spent the energy To come see me I'll give them My full attention When I'm talking to them And then move on I'm not like
Starting point is 00:21:13 Talking to them And then looking around the room To see who else I can talk to Or how to escape I'm just like Yeah you know Like we'll have a moment
Starting point is 00:21:19 And then it's like Okay Thank you for coming yeah hi and now because everybody wants a second everybody wants a moment you talked i try to talk to everybody you know the safe looking people and then i and then i okay bye you know what i mean i can't wait till i get a little julius a little security guard a little a little bouncer you know a guy that a bodyguard who's like you know when we're not she oh no more photos yeah i see that because sorry yeah i don't know how to do that i'm i'm gonna take everybody in and then we're
Starting point is 00:21:49 talking. Cindy's trying to bring everybody to the diner. Yeah, we'll like, okay, then we're like, okay, the show is over. We're about to go to another spot. And I'm telling the people where we're at. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm the person that's like, okay, so we're going to go to the diner. You are taking them to the diner. We're going to the Commodore. And then he's like, we're taking the sprinter van to this place
Starting point is 00:22:05 with these people. And then I'm like, Marie, I don't have stalkers because they're like, we've already, we're friends. They're already close friends to you. They know us and then they're coming, they're hanging around. You're like, wait, I'm not close with y'all. Y'all close with sydney stop talking to me also as women it's so different yeah you guys you guys have a different
Starting point is 00:22:24 situation like listen i've seen enough lifetime movie channel films to know that i don't want to be this close to any of y'all like not y'all but yeah those people i mean chapel rome was talking about it and yeah i mean people she she got like backlash she shouldn't get backlash though because you know what she was nice about it like you think she was nice about in the beginning she was she She had dark eyeliner on. I don't know how nice you can be when your makeup is like, I'm mad at you. I think the face she paints is a pissed off face. I think the character of Chapel Rowan is also a little bit like, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:23:01 It's a little bit like, don't fuck with me or fuck around and find out, rather. And people have. But with Chapel, it's like, the first thing she did was very softly at a show be like, I'm having a really hard day. like this has been very intense for me it's happening very fast and i just want you to know if i don't give you guys the big show it's just because i'm going through it and this is something that i'm really dealing with and then she posted on instagram thank you for receiving that like you know i'm really dealing with this and then she had what i guess was like a really intense
Starting point is 00:23:34 physical fan interaction yeah and and she got on her tiktok and was like is it normal for you to just go up and grab somebody don't do it wait was is who somebody grabbed her at a at an event or at a show yes like that that's what it seemed like in the tiktok where she was pissed off because she was like it's not normal to come up to someone and just yell there yell at them don't call me by my actual name like she put her boundaries out there she was pissed off yeah that's weird if her if her name is chaparral we at the chaparral show that's what i'm calling you yeah and i do think that like fans are so aggressive now they just feel like you they own you they own you they're like i paid my money come here like and it's different because like chris brown has set a
Starting point is 00:24:18 precedent he's he's set a precedent like hey you want to meet and greet it's a thousand dollars we could just do whatever i think that's a moment where it's like hey you did pay your money if you want to if you want to if you want him to pick you up and hold you in the photo you paid for that But when somebody's out and about or like they're walking away from their show at a restaurant, they don't owe you a photo or an autograph or even a hello. I think they owe you nothing. I mean, like it's like if they're not at work, they don't owe you like no one owes anyone anything. And then she even said she's like she said, like, women don't owe you anything because I do think it's a different thing with women. Like, I think I think you feel an invasion that like we I just could never really truly understand.
Starting point is 00:25:00 and that is like it it makes you feel unsafe you never you never had the moment where you felt unsafe i'm just saying i'm not a woman and i don't know what it's like to be like to feel to walk around in the world and be like you know at actual threat of violence because i'm like a white man that walks the world and like i can like you know what for every years of code switching like i can fit into certain places you know what i mean i think that the younger your fans the more unsafe you are probably true right i didn't i never even thought about that because the young ones are like like um somebody was telling me that like when pete davidson is in la or whatever like girls will get in their cars and follow him try to follow him home so he's they got like decoy
Starting point is 00:25:47 vehicles and trick lamborghinis to like switch out of because yeah these women will follow and it's like you know girls in their 20s you know what i'm saying just trying to get to pete davidson I'm trying to literally get some either attention or like real interaction with him. I'll never forget this. So one of the first times I ever went to L.A. was my family after I graduated college. One of my graduation presents was my dad and my mom took me to my sister's. Not one of my graduation presents. No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:26:14 How many graduation presents? Girl. You know what I'm saying? I barely had one. I barely had one. They came to the graduation and I was like, just play the air horn when they say my name. They didn't even buy the. They didn't even do that.
Starting point is 00:26:25 i think it let's just say it was the trip to la we went as a family and a couple sweaters i got a sheet cake okay i got a sexy sheet cake i wish i got a sheet cake you went to la with the family wow so we went there and we went on a celebrity homes tour so it was like i don't know if you've we ever in la you see this oh yes because greta greta has shown me too like yes they're like they're like safari jeeps essentially where like you all sit in it and like like they drive around like the areas where i guess quote-unquote celebrities live and they say yeah that's the house of selena gomez you know that's the house of whatever and we were doing it i'm like 22 years old and i'm already starting to feel a little bit weird because we had just
Starting point is 00:27:10 driven past like christina aguilera's house and like he and the guy was from new zealand and he was like oh maybe we'll see ya you know what i mean i was like oh this feels like a little bit like weird that was my new zealand accent yeah but i was like oh now are we like trying to hunt it like it felt like a zoo attraction and i was like oh i don't like this and then we were driving down we were driving past the beverly hills hotel and he's going off about how whitney houston died there and i was like feeling weird and then he thought that in the car next to us was the actor adrian grenier from entourage okay the lead the lead vince from entourage he thought that vince from entourage was like driving next to us and away from us he gunned it no like weaving through
Starting point is 00:28:00 cars to try to get to what he thought was adrian grenier i'm in the car like these in these like safari mobiles i don't think i was wearing a seat belt like i'm sure you weren't and my mom dad and sister don't know who adrian grenier is i don't think anyone did and so but i did and i was like i know he's not worth i know what we know from that and we know him from devil wears pride yes so we're like really flying down the street and i'm like if i die because this guy thinks he sit he sees adrian grenier that is not my hollywood story that's and that's not a person we dying over i'm just saying that's diana energy for no very and so then we pull up and it wasn't him oh and i'm thinking to myself like let's get the fuck out of here like you owe me my money back
Starting point is 00:28:46 but the fact is like the comfortability that was the culture of like let's go hunt this celebrity down made me nervous but they still do that like as as icky as it made you feel there are people they they got the camera around the neck they got the map in their lap they're circling oh this is where she lives this is where such and such lives we're going to calabasas next like there are people who eat that up and also like it's just like i do believe in like if you see them like yeah clock it but then like move on i have one friend who will see someone and point no and i go you better put your hand down you're like because they know me Okay, so then, I was at the Sabrina Carpenter concert.
Starting point is 00:29:32 Oh, tell us. It was so good. It was so good. No, I went in at the Forum in LA. Okay. And so, behind us, like, in one of the, like, real fancy people seats, like, I was on the floor. That's where you was at. No, I was on the floor with the public.
Starting point is 00:29:46 You were Club Renaissance for Sabrina? You were on the ground? I was Club Renaissance for Sabrina. Club Espresso. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And so I turned around because there's a commotion and I turned around and John Mayer and Katy Perry are talking to each other. Now, John Mayer and Katy Perry, like, used to date. And this is like years ago.
Starting point is 00:30:04 He used to date everybody. Yeah, right. And they used, but they're having this interaction. And I'm telling you, the whole stadium is turned around with their phones. And I was just like, this is embarrassing. Guys, stop. It is embarrassing. It is embarrassing.
Starting point is 00:30:17 No, you know what's embarrassing? all those people shot that and probably half of them created a tiktok video that's like that moment pov you bump into your ex at the like yeah and people and then people are in the comments like oh my god i can't believe you some people love famous people more than anything right now it's you know what it is it's like i think that that it is this is my theory i think that people feel so like politically hopeless and like like hopeless and like things that making change actually matters that the discourse about pop culture gets like a lot more intense because it doesn't actually matter and you can like swing an opinion around or like be like i hate this person
Starting point is 00:30:58 because we can't actually do anything in our life you know what i mean so it's like i just have noticed that the discourse about pop culture seems like it's getting to a toxic place that reminds me of like the tabloid culture from the perez hilton era i agree now i'm not saying that I'm trying to, you know, cap for Miss J-Lo. But there was a moment where I was like. It's getting raw. I said, y'all are being mean now. I know Jenny not from the block, but it's just too many of these.
Starting point is 00:31:27 Like these little POVs and these little videos and these little dissertations. She said that cheese and ham sandwich thing. And they let her have it for months. Well, they're doing it now with Cynthia and Ariana. Like people are like, they should, they need to stop crying. It's so fucking annoying. and i'm just like you guys like does the punishment fit the crime right for you to go online and call these women what you're calling them because that they're emotional because they worked hard on this
Starting point is 00:31:53 thing for two years and now it's coming out and like it means a lot to little girls but is that a fan or is that like because there are a lot of people who like to hate watch stuff and just comment things that they would never say to your face but that is like but here's the thing i do consider those people's fans because if you are online talking about me you're a fan you're a fan oh you're a fan it doesn't matter if what you're saying is really mean because like i've seen some stuff that is so mean wait matt has anybody has have you ever had a moment maybe in las culturistas where people were being mean to you you mean like like you saw what people were writing or yeah yeah like i i will sometimes like go on our subreddit like our subreddit yes that
Starting point is 00:32:38 lost cultures has a subreddit and it's like 90 very positive and very like i think the tone of the podcast and then there will be some people who i just see certain accounts like keep coming back and saying certain things and i think it's because they know that i'm on there and they know what bothers me and i think it's they're the reason they're trying to get at me is because they're they're a fan they're a fan and like it's it's it's one thing to be like i enjoyed this episode like this part dragged me etc whatever like say what you're gonna say but then there's certain things that i think you wouldn't say that if you if you weren't actually trying to bother you yeah yeah yeah so like i think all of the i mean everybody has people have fans
Starting point is 00:33:27 sometimes that you're like oh you like nikki has the barbs rihanna still has the navy uh beyonce I mean, Beehive to me used to be the most intense fans, but now I think it's the Barbz. You think it's because the Beehive has collectively gotten older? I think so. Because I think after a certain age bracket, because I've seen my analytics, my fans are a little older and it's like they tired. So they might not get the ticket right away. They're like, we getting the tickets, but girl, we not getting when you put the link up just right now. I can tell who really hates me demographically.
Starting point is 00:34:06 It's other gay men. Really? But I think other gay performers also say that. That's messy, y'all. They'll be like. We're not able to support each other, really. Yeah. Like us as the people, we're all friends.
Starting point is 00:34:18 Like I'm friends with obviously Bowen, Josh, Aaron, George, Sam, Dave. Like these are all dear friends of mine. Right. Julio, you know what I mean? like these are all people that i love and like i support it's um gay male fans like on the internet get crazy they they they get it's just and they say and their listeners here hey gay fans on the internet like mateo mateo lane said one time like they're not gonna really ride for you unless you're a drag queen or like so fucking hot that that like and and like not trying to be anything but
Starting point is 00:34:58 that you know what i mean like they don't ride hard for like trixie mattel yes and they love pop to drag queen yeah exactly like i think drag queens like they get it in different ways like drag queens get insane abuse online from some crazy gay guys sure but like like the drag race fandom is so fucking insane to the point where you're like who are these people and you find out it's mostly like middle schoolers no way yes we gotta take the phones back from the kids
Starting point is 00:35:27 we gotta they're talking about a social media ban in Australia you have to be 16 before you can start social media I don't even think 16 I think you need to be 21 if you have a cell phone you can still get on social media you know what I'm saying like we gotta Melania this should be
Starting point is 00:35:42 your platform you gotta say what is it be best be best be best to these kids well didn't she I think she just came out
Starting point is 00:35:50 and said like she's gonna be like first lady light she's like only gonna half do it she's not moving into that house no she never
Starting point is 00:35:56 I don't think she's she's trying to move out of the New York house she already changed the locks on him she said get somebody else to do it I don't
Starting point is 00:36:01 y'all better get one of them you know the people who look like me to come in the body double she like with the soft filter on her
Starting point is 00:36:09 she's like no I'm not like watch when we find out that half the time we have seen her in public it hasn't been her oh that's what they're saying she got a stunt double and i would love that i want that for me i need somebody to tap in and do the the small things that i just
Starting point is 00:36:22 can't do i don't want to show up for that the appearances the appearances yeah there's there's a couple you know you know birthday dinners oh y'all need me yeah it's 20 of us here you're not really hanging out with me so you just need the body of me there to pay for my part but you don't So you're paying for the double and the double's food. I mean, that's the thing. They have to eat. And the double got to pay a little bit for the birthday girl. I think everybody should have a little bit of a double.
Starting point is 00:36:52 Life is hard. There was one celebrity that they were saying had a double a while back. And they were convinced enough that it was true that they somehow had the information that the body double had to do the exact same workouts. and eat the exact same food. Is this The Rock? No, it's someone. Do you remember what I'm talking about? There was a celebrity who they were saying had a body double.
Starting point is 00:37:18 It wasn't Britney Spears, but someone like that. Okay. Where it was like, oh, you know, half the time it's the body double who does the same workouts and eats the same food so they can keep the same exact body. Was it J-Lo in the studio? No, it was not. No, that's Ashanti.
Starting point is 00:37:32 That's Ashanti. But you know what, Matt? Speaking of fans, I think a lot of the fans, I want fans that are so delusional, but sometimes it's like you got to hold your person accountable. Like, that's what I get mad about the fans that like ride for these people. Sometimes it's like, you know, that person is dead wrong. Like, it's OK. Who's wrong? Name names.
Starting point is 00:37:53 I mean, there was a moment where I was like, OK, J-Lo, maybe you need to take a break. And her fans were like, no, she's just being her. But then everybody jumped on her and it was bad. but i think like uh like taylor swift fans i i'm through i'm done because they don't say the truth no they can't the barbs are crazy the barbs are great they're unhinged they they wake up and eat glass and then you know they drink dark liquor with no ice yeah they're pretty aggressive and she you know what's crazy about her she knows it and she feeds the fire she yes she's somebody who does feed the fire yeah do you do you ever like meet people that kind of like try to be like you
Starting point is 00:38:35 and bowen like do you see like during halloween or anything like that sometimes they'll come up and they'll be they'll know bowen probably yeah bowen is a list like that's that's the truth is like i'm sitting here around c minus no stop it i see you on the red carpets which one all of them I'm here to tell you the truth Matt knows where he is and where he's gonna be like we feel really good about the c-minus list I feel that's where I'm at Bowen is a list you know I knew it when he was on hot ones hot ones first of all hot ones is not for regular people that is the top booking hot ones is the top booking yeah that's really hard to book they booked out for the next couple years?
Starting point is 00:39:23 That's like Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Lawrence, Bowen Yang. Bowen Yang. Like, that's wild. That's a list. That's the title. He'll get dressed up
Starting point is 00:39:32 as like a Halloween costume because also he dresses up like a lot of things on SNL. There's a lot of opportunity for it. Bowen Yang as the iceberg. All those lookalike contests,
Starting point is 00:39:42 like, you could do a Bowen Yang lookalike contest. You get the half moon glasses. Yeah. And, you know, like, he's dressed in these cozy little sweaters. or a blazer
Starting point is 00:39:53 or a blazer listen the lookalike contest you don't even have to look like them you just gotta know how to say the name cause the Timothee Chalamet
Starting point is 00:39:58 I was like I saw it though I saw it and they came in with the swag I felt like they they had the riz wait you know
Starting point is 00:40:05 who's getting one another one of our girls Rachel Sennett Rachel Sennett they did it already I saw it was it good it was just girls
Starting point is 00:40:11 with bushy brows and very like they had yo when Sarah when Sarah Sherman did Rachel on SNL
Starting point is 00:40:19 I couldn't believe it it was so good the cleavage the hair the pouting i was like literally like bowen and sherman being on fucking snl and rachel senate being an impression i was like we have changed lighting yeah that's how we know she's made it it has all evolved but like sometimes they sometimes it's a little this never happens but when someone comes up and goes bitch and i'm trying to sound like you yeah it's just a little mean whatever i mean then then then you're like oh you try to sound like me and you just scream the word bitch like great what example am i
Starting point is 00:40:55 setting but no i mean like and this is the thing is i don't experience it in interaction where it's too much ever yeah because because like who am i you know what i mean bowen is like um the kind of person who is like deeply meaningful to like queer people asian people like i've been with him where people come up and they're like clearly it's a moment for them because they feel seen by him I'm like, that's not happening with me. And if it does, like, that's really nice. Yeah. But I think that, yeah, it's just, I think people come up to me and they're, like, casual in a way where with him they come up and they're very, it's like, that is an exchange of import.
Starting point is 00:41:35 I think I want, to be honest, I like it casual. I don't, because the intensity of people, and I'm an empath, and I'm feeling their feeling, and then I'm feeling like I kind of owe them. Then you're crying, and I'm standing there like this. I don't want that. Well, I'm hugging. I'm out here hugging. You're hugging, yeah. Yeah, and then they're bringing their energy into you.
Starting point is 00:41:53 I don't need that. You're not hugging everybody? You're not afraid of pitbull? I'm hugging everybody. But I'm a hugger anyway. I hug everybody, Marie. I love it. Sometimes I'll be like this.
Starting point is 00:42:00 Oh, thanks. Thank you. Get this. One time, someone online said, I used to work with Matt Rogers, and he gives too many hugs. Ooh. I said, why didn't you say something in person? Yeah. If anyone had said to me ever once, like, I don't want to hug.
Starting point is 00:42:15 I will never touch you again. Again, yeah. I will never come near you again. I don't even want to. wait that's that's like a not a backhanded compliment it's like a a version of that no it was the person was definitely trying to make something weird yeah i was like i promise you my hands are over here it's an insult but not really it was it was it was insinuating something i did not like oh but you know what somebody did when i first started comedy um like male
Starting point is 00:42:42 comedians was like oh yeah yes you know sydney she was you know being nice to me and you know she's looking at me and then everybody's like no that's how Sydney is with everybody and then I was like so I'm just for the streets I'm just hugging and being nice to everybody and they said it in a way where I was like I guess I gotta just fucking push people and ignore people and be a bitch but then if you're a bitch then then you're a bitch then in the streets you're known as the bitch yes yes yes listen be the bitch because when people think you don't like them they want you to like them more no the thing too is like me at at rest like and i'm not saying this about myself for whatever like i am a nice person right like i i am out here like let me go on uh las culturistas
Starting point is 00:43:24 reddit let me see this subreddit no because they're lovely to me it's just every now and then people with the same account will come and say the same thing and i'm like maybe i should never have shared that i come on this but but i do want to check in and see what they the ones who like really like the show like yeah because i i it's important to me i want to you know be able to make a good show for them the people that like really care but then it sometimes crosses over into a little bit like once i start internalizing it and i'm i just then i realize like no this is just the same people who have the same thing to say and then you sit down and you you say to yourself get over yourself not everyone is gonna like you and that is the truth that's so hard
Starting point is 00:44:08 It is hard. It's the truth, but it's hard. Do you think Beyonce reads comments? No. Shut up. Yes, she does. She absolutely. There's some viral stuff that she will then take it.
Starting point is 00:44:19 Somebody in her team has showed her something, and she's like, you know what? I'm going to flip this shit. I know. She might not look at specific comments, but she knows what the people are saying. She knows what the team is like. This is what they said.
Starting point is 00:44:34 You know, I recently talked to someone who is close with a big celebrity and they were telling me they're the person that like the celebrity trust to give them the information and what they do is they say tell me the good stuff and then like the next day they'll be like tell me the truth so that they can at least internalize stuff and then tell me the truth but the good stuff comes first right so that there can be like a bed of knowledge that there is love yeah and then the truth comes in and you know it's just kind of like an element to what is being said oh i like that yeah that might be the title tell me the good stuff then tell me the truth i like that because i think um oh there was a moment
Starting point is 00:45:18 on tiktok where the people were kind of dragging serena williams this one creator was said hey girl serena williams is always looking like a hot mess and then they showed a compilation of all the like clothes and makeup and wigs and stuff and then the next time you saw serena she stepped out yeah and she was together there was like there's no way that serena's stylist or makeup artist or people survived somebody did not know they that they saw that and they fixed it they were like sometimes taking notes you gotta do that because some of the girls they do need new styling they do need new makeup they do like something everybody can't the team can't stay the same the whole time we gotta level up also sometimes it's it is hard because i would imagine like
Starting point is 00:46:02 if you have like a bad stylist like you might really like the person's personality but they might make you look crazy and that might be right why someone doesn't change their stylist and keeps looking bad because the team is aware about the feedback when a huge because when you spend a ton of money to get someone ready for something and then they go out hit the carpet put that hand on the hip and the photo comes out and then the feedback is negative yeah it's on the it's on the fashion money was spent on it so they care like pr cares when someone looks bad and gets bad reviews well i mean if you're on a red carpet someone somewhere is reviewing the fit the girls get dressed up to go to the met gala and you know we got winners and then there's people who you
Starting point is 00:46:47 never even see their pictures you didn't even know they were there right so sometimes it's worse to not get mentioned at all. Oh, there's been times where Getty hasn't posted me on one of these red carpets you speak of. And I'll be like, the shade.
Starting point is 00:47:02 The shot on that. But I also think that, what the fuck are these people? Like, what do you wear? You're at Target every other weekend turning looks there. So it's like,
Starting point is 00:47:12 I feel like style is sometimes subjective. And these fans or these critics, you're rude. And you need to take a seat. And you need to you need to put that snuggie, take the snuggie off and maybe you need to walk outside because you're doing too much. Everyone needs to walk outside.
Starting point is 00:47:29 Yeah, that is ultimately the thing is everyone needs to touch grass. Yeah. And it's just a really easy time to be in the phone because we've gone through the election. We've gone through a time like I feel like one of the things that people live for nowadays is like is the discourse and is being in the phone. and it makes it feel like this world and a lot of the stuff we're even talking about is actually real when it's just like a few people can have their opinion and honestly
Starting point is 00:47:58 it's as long as it doesn't get dangerous and messed up and harmful, I'm good with it sometimes it just does it does because everybody pop culture people have fans sports athletes have fans politicians now have fans
Starting point is 00:48:15 standing a politician is as dark as it gets that's what MAGA is they at the rallies wearing the merch and they're screaming the lines with him and it's like
Starting point is 00:48:25 you're a fan yeah MAGA is crazy MAGA is stan culture but also like you know what MAGA is stan okay MAGA is stan culture
Starting point is 00:48:32 but I will say you know what what drove me nuts was that Kamala has the K-Hive have you heard about the K-Hive I know
Starting point is 00:48:38 I've heard about the K-Hive I thought that was the girls on Kid Me yeah I thought that the K-Hive I thought it was like it's both wasn't it Kamala HQ
Starting point is 00:48:45 people were going crazy about that but I didn't know she had a whole hive she has the k-hive well i didn't really show up i haven't heard from them in a while worker bees didn't work um okay so we do have we do have a couple of segments that we need to get come on before real okay so um we have a messy or just living uh segment okay we need you to tell us if this is messy or if this is just living yes okay so uh sister she's going to college yeah uh she's
Starting point is 00:49:30 19 or 18 or whatever she's going to college and she's like i'm grown now i'm grown and she's like i want to tell my parents i don't want to watch my younger siblings anymore i'm out you got to get somebody else to do it and she told her parents that and they were like absolutely not and do you think it's messy like to set boundaries like that are they are they paying for college oh you know what i didn't even think about that i was like yeah why don't you just get a babysitter it's like they're paying 50 grand uh they're paying you to be the babysitter you are yeah 50 grand we need more information yeah we need more information if they're not paying for college you don't know no you don't have to babysit if they're paying for college you might have to babysit once a week
Starting point is 00:50:13 something like that like it's if if they're still actively involved in your success you have them to thank for it in some part so if they're asking you to do something so because of your parents you now you this is a debt it's like hey i didn't ask to be born that's what you did you you opened the leg you popped it up your eggs got fertilized so now i so now i'm in debt i have to everything i do is for you well everything i did was for you so yeah as the mom maybe this is why i can't have kids i'd be like i made you yeah you know what that i always resented that whenever my dad would pull that like whenever my dad was dead wrong like objectively wrong about something and i would point it out it always came back to whose house
Starting point is 00:50:53 do you live in oh yeah and i was just like well now what that's toxic i don't like it what else i need to know this is my favorite segment um messy or just living um oh speaking of fans uh jonathan majors and megan good are engaged is that messy yeah yeah why why because i don't think i don't i don't i don't know the jonathan majors of it all yeah i believed the people that said he was doing what he was doing i know that like whatever but like that didn't seem above board to me megan goods can make her own decisions but for me for her um mess yeah i think i and that's this is the hard thing is like if you're say for instance you're friends with somebody right or if you're dating someone and people are coming out and they're like hey they're
Starting point is 00:51:44 not because if this happens like people's oh your friend is not nice and you're like that's weird because that like i've had a good time with them they're not mean to me but it's like when does the line draw where you're like well if people keep saying this person is an asshole they might be an asshole yeah they might be and i probably shouldn't get married to them because i'm gonna come around and be like you know what can you believe this person the asshole yeah we've been telling you girl we've been saying but i'm also like maybe they got engaged because it's like well what are you gonna do now she's stuck with him throughout the whole trial almost always almost always people that are like riding for a problematic partner always regret it like if you're
Starting point is 00:52:25 if you're like that is not how he really is like i'm gonna stand up like i'm gonna stay with you a lot of people aren't wrong well the streets are saying she was the one that he was texting that started the whole fiasco i don't know much about what the streets are saying i just i wish the best for megan good yeah that's great okay i wish the best for her because i've been a fan since cousin skeeter oh right and only only a fan would know that she's on cousin skeeter cousin skeeter who by the way the actor that played cousin skeeter or the lead of cousin skeeter ended up fucking Paris Hilton
Starting point is 00:52:57 in that House of Wax movie and I thought that was the funniest thing I'd ever seen I just remember Chad Michael Murray and Paris Hilton in that movie
Starting point is 00:53:05 there was also the guy from Cousin Skeeter and he and Paris Hilton fucked in that movie and I thought it was and then she died and that's when movies were good
Starting point is 00:53:13 don't we miss those days yeah cinema okay we have one message Marie do you want to read that one
Starting point is 00:53:24 it's right here whoo okay i told my friend i wasn't going out to avoid her then i see her out oops now anytime you tell somebody that you're not gonna go out and you do go out like you're an how do you moron right my thing is like if you're gonna go out after you say i'm not going out don't go anywhere remotely where you could run into that person like where do you live that you thought that you could get away with this babe like come on that's just amateur hour that's I don't know I've done it before and it's just like what you have to do is you have to get your friend's location more people should be sharing your location so you know where they at if you're
Starting point is 00:54:06 sharing your location and you told me you staying home I could see that you're out okay but then I heard right if you switch your location to where your iPad or your laptop is then you can then it says that you're there girl but you're really out girl it's a lot of loops and loops if you if i mean you didn't want to tell this person that you was going out but if you if you're gonna do the the dance yeah i'm just giving you a heads up put your location as your ipad and then roam the streets i just i feel like i i sometimes i go places where i don't want people to know and so if i were to share my location with the girls then i wouldn't be able to do that anymore Sometimes I need to be a little bit off the grid
Starting point is 00:54:47 And move in silence Like lasagna Like the G in lasagna Like the G in lasagna The G in lasagna, thank you Maybe that's how I can stop being late If I share my location with everybody They'll know when I'm like, I'm almost there
Starting point is 00:55:02 We can tell you, Marie's ETA You're still at the house I do have your location, Marie I know she ain't over here on time So it's alright I could have stayed for three more hours Matt, thank you so much for coming to Mass You guys know you're the best
Starting point is 00:55:16 Yeah Well you're coming on Lost Culture soon right Yes Yeah Do we have it on the books It became my problem Yeah
