Starting point is 00:00:51 really really well um you know i got up i went for a run today uh that's it like i just you know i pride myself in dragging my ass off the bed and like working out and what that means is like running around the soccer field with a bunch of little kids yeah i went to the gym at 7 a.m and i've realized that's the time you should go there's like really not that many people there dude that's what i've been saying to you i like if i'm not at the gym like if i'm not out the gym by 8 30 9 o'clock then i don't want to go to the gym because there's too many people there at that time yeah mondays mondays are cool though like not a lot of people be at the gym because they're hung over from the weekend yeah but like wednesday thursday oh we go to after 10 10 a.m
Starting point is 00:01:33 i've never at the gym after 10 a.m you crazy i know so you went at seven o'clock by yourself or you went with i went by myself because he was like he had death not coming at 7 a.m you got stood up your gym date stood you up no we go at 9 45 but he was like yeah 7 a.m girl i don't like you that much he was like my girlfriend said i can't come outside exactly my girlfriend said no uh she said we're not coming out tonight she said we're busy we're booked today yep uh sydney what were you an expert in this week i was an expert in roasting dead ass uh i've been roasting people a lot uh my good friend amina imani love her she's been on the podcast she's been at our shows we love her she's a good friend she was our uh frugal expert yeah
Starting point is 00:02:22 she insists on wearing these sketchers that are also birkenstocks and they are just so ridiculous like they hurt my eyes just they're kind of like a suede-ish situation but she's like they're memory foam i walked 28 blocks in these and it's like she knows how much i hate sketchers but on top of that they're birkenstock i'm like are you milking cows with these my girl like so i had her on my insta stories where you saw it tons of comedians saw it i roasted her for like i don't know maybe nine videos nine videos of sydney zooming into amina more toes me taking me taking her shoes throwing them in the garbage like just and then us walking because she's like oh i want to go i want to go out i want to go to the club and i'm like in those you want to go out
Starting point is 00:03:14 in those and she's like yeah i want to dance i was like you can dance in those and then i was like yeah they're not gonna let you in and then we get to the we get to the club and they let that girl in with the Skechers Birkin joints. Listen. And she was dancing and pumping and having a good time. I was really upset. Well, that's why I like Amina, right? She's good for having a good time. But like sis, like I
Starting point is 00:03:35 watched your Insta stories and it was like back to back to back to back to back to back to back video of her in them damn shoes. And I was like, how has Amina not punched you in the face? Oh, it's coming. Oh, she's definitely coming. I mean, we were at the chicken spot talking about the shoes. She had them on
Starting point is 00:03:52 again she's ready she's ready to throw down but she's she loves the shoes and she doesn't have any problems like vouching for her shoes so shut up she'll drop you before she drops those shoes exactly okay she drops her you know what never mind let me stop anyway and i've been roasting uh men a lot uh this guy had silver clogs on on a date on it how you know he was on a date oh they were holding hand in hand it was a saturday night this dude was walking with this beauty she was beautiful she looked like a model maybe she got him the shoes she def didn't get him she might have got him them ugly ass shoes do you really believe a woman would buy a man silver clogs sis maybe they're her shoes and they wear the same size i don't know i'm trying to see this
Starting point is 00:04:34 so i was like urban outfitters has a sale what's really good and he was just so happy to be in these shoes i mean his his uh ankles were all out cindy i feel like you're just trying to take somebody's joy right now and um i would just let him and his silver shoes live you know what i mean it's not my place you who takes joy out of hurting men's hearts left and right i don't know what you're talking about this week i was an expert at not managing my time properly i didn't break a single heart this week i don't think i mean i probably did uh but uh i had a an appointment and I was like oh snap I gotta be there at one o'clock so actually they told me to be there at 12 45 but I knew it started at one so I was like as long as I get there close to then I'm good
Starting point is 00:05:21 right I show up is 115 I'm buzzing no one's letting me in I go to the elevator it's not moving I'm like it's on the second floor I'll walk up I walk up the door closes behind me I was like oh my god I'm trapped but I wasn't but no one was letting me in so I email the people about this meeting like hey you know i'm here and they're not letting me in i'm just a little bit late and they called me like the meeting is next thursday that's so you i was late but then also really early no but like 15 minutes late but what like seven days early that's how you do it i mean they should be happy to have you on the roster thank you so much i feel like that but you see marie you see how i agree with you i'll lift you up i don't shut your thing down you down at all you
Starting point is 00:06:05 said i was taking away people's joy which is not true that man was sleeping with his hot chick in them ugly shoes i bring joy in everyone's life now i don't take it away joy to amina's life because amina is still devastated shout out to amina and mani i love you girl you are amazing you're so funny you're beautiful and you are a goddess from the ankles up look at you speaking from the ankles up uh our next guest is our first guest i mean our guest today yes our guest today we had a couple of guests anyway uh he is a comedian uh has beautiful tresses is that what you call it tresses uh you can catch him all around new york city give it up for our man bun expert steven bulls thank you thank you very much
Starting point is 00:06:58 tresses what's another word what's another word for hair locks i get locks i've actually never heard tresses before that's like tresemme exactly that's why i knew what you meant from tresemme ah thank you connected to and to but locks is what i usually get okay steven your hair looks pretty shiny it looks healthy i showered this morning for us yeah or for yourself you like for y'all for i knew i was doing a podcast about my hair i'm like i gotta wash it no no you're like it's gonna be two black girls they're gonna be judging the shit out of me that's what that's what happens uh well what shampoo do you use whatever three dollar shit i find no no no no how what you use like a vo5 do you use head and shoulders uh if it's in the shower oh my god
Starting point is 00:07:42 because you have roommates you just use yeah absolutely you use whatever your roommate has I just run out of whatever shit I have and then just use whatever they have until I buy more. You go, ooh, Moroccan oil. You say, ooh, ooh, ooh, when you have the Moroccan oil in the damn shower. You so rude. That's expensive, too. It's not even cheap. I don't know what that is.
Starting point is 00:08:00 I don't think I've ever used that before. Listen, with hair like this, you need to take care of it because, you know, it's blonde. It's like a strawberry blonde. Is this strawberry blonde? Yeah, it's strawberry blonde. It's just dirty blonde a lot of times. Emphasis on the dirty. Emphasis on the dirty.
Starting point is 00:08:15 It's a dirty-ass blonde. Yeah, it's been getting darker, especially in the summer it gets lighter, but, you know, it's been getting darker ever since I've been getting older. I was a lot more blonde when I was a kid. When I was in high school, this shit was like blonde. Yeah, you look like Jonathan Taylor Thomas as a kid. Jonathan Taylor Thomas. Who's that?
Starting point is 00:08:33 Y'all don't know who that is? JTT? Wow. Very good. Somebody listening knows. You missed that reference. Somebody listening knows. You missed that reference.
Starting point is 00:08:42 Wow. Hold on. I'm going to check his IMDb real quick. Can you please? Okay, so wait. So have you always had long hair? Yeah, for a very long time now. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:52 You always grew your hair out quite long. Because it was longer than this. Yeah, I just got it cut. Yeah, like a few weeks ago. It was like down a little bit past my elbows. So like four inches. Eight inches. Yeah, I donate it like once every year, year and a half.
Starting point is 00:09:05 Oh, that's beautiful. That's about how long it takes to grow to eight inches that they require. Wait, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. It takes you a year to grow eight inches? Sydney, how many years does it take you to grow eight inches? yo can you can you give me a couple bundles you gotta get some v05 shampoo that's what i need just don't burn it and dye it that's all you gotta do just i don't i don't dye it or burn it i mean your hair is dyed though just a little bit just in the front that's dyed but even when i wasn't
Starting point is 00:09:30 dying it wasn't growing eight inches in a year because you're using fancy ass shampoo you gotta get that i need to go to dollar tree and get my freaking shampoo and conditioner per plus exactly um okay so were you one of these kids that like like who is it rachel zoe or one of those like a lot of these like cool new moms don't want to cut their son's hair right yeah it wasn't quite my parents are actually both military so i was amazed they won they were okay letting you growing it out yeah i remember the story was in sixth grade i had like normal boys haircut i got it cut before school they cut it almost bald and i hated it and my mom i remember my mom saying i'm so sorry they messed up your hair you can grow it out as long as you like and she didn't think
Starting point is 00:10:13 i took that seriously i took that what a nice mom i know i didn't cut it for five years and got to be about where it is now like in high school and then just maintain it there ever since oh okay so what year did you graduate from high school uh 2011 so you probably looked like you were in a band yeah i've looked like i was in a band for the last decade or so you definitely look like be retired from a band you look like you played a guitar or like a bass electric bass see i know i saw it i see it exactly i fit the stereotypes i i'm very much what you see is what you get wait were you in a band i was in like a little trio like in high school what was it called we were called decades late because we played a lot of hendrix played a lot of clapping mostly all covers
Starting point is 00:11:00 a few originals kicked the shit out of a high school talent show one time and didn't really have any gigs outside of that we had a steady gig
Starting point is 00:11:07 at a Wings place for like a month or two listen what kind of Wings was it like a Wings stop all kinds of Wings it was called
Starting point is 00:11:14 Wings to Go Wings to Go but people would stay yeah they had a whole inside part of the restaurant I didn't understand their whole thing there's a band here
Starting point is 00:11:24 yes so you can stay while you have your Wings to Go there's a bunch of 17 year olds playing Clapton if you want to watch that
Starting point is 00:11:29 while you eat your wings so we would do that i'm here for that though i like that that sounds can we still go there do you think that there's a place where is wings to go virginia oh yeah i mean if the listeners want to get us a ticket to virginia so we can have wings even better if our listeners want to send us a box of wings to go we probably won't eat them no we'll think about it we'll shout you out on the ground okay so so you've been growing your hair out since forever um so are you the original because man buns i feel like are kind of new yeah new like the last three four years right so you were ahead of the curve which you were i i never wore the man bun when i was in high school you just
Starting point is 00:12:16 let it go yeah i always was a ponytail guy if i ever put it up in anything which i know okay okay like mid pony with a part in the middle yeah with the part in the middle okay because you didn't slick it all the way back no no i didn't do that no it's part in the middle uh to wrap it up in a ponytail that's why i like the man but i feel like it's this nice metamorphosis of like this shit-ass ponytail that i had for a decade and now it's like cleans up real nice that's why i like do you ever throw it in like a low braid uh i can't braid that well i'll let other people braid it if they want to wait steven you said it's a metamorphosis of the low ponytail So you're saying the man bun is a butterfly?
Starting point is 00:12:54 Yeah, the man bun is a... It is definitely not a freaking butterfly, my bud. No, because I feel like the ponytail is a caterpillar and then the man bun... Is that a bit, Steven? No, it's not. That's how I feel. I feel like that's a bit coming, just to let you know. Maybe y'all laughed at it.
Starting point is 00:13:12 I got to try it on stage now. Okay, you have to. Well, no, I mean, women, I don't like man buns. i think it's not that it's feminine but i just feel like you're doing a lot with your hair i can't date somebody who has hair longer than me yeah i understand that i understand that's a big turn off for some people to turn on for some other people some girls really like the long hair what kind of girls like long hair guys white girls sydney white girls i was just asking the listeners wanted but more than just a white girl like it's a certain type of girl that likes
Starting point is 00:13:45 guys that have long hair like what does she do like is she like in pr usually into anime like the colored hair yeah like girls with blue and purple hair usually girls that work at high hot topic girls that work a hot topic for sure a lot of piercings any uh anybody that screams hot topic or spencer is usually fine with the long hair spencers so she likes snm and stuff like that sure yeah not this snm but you know the real sure so are you dating somebody right now no i'm not i'm not i just got out of a long-term thing a few months ago what happened get into it she was tired of getting your hair like pulling your hair out of her butt she was like i'm getting sick of that myself but yeah no it was a it was a long time coming it was a good thing though it
Starting point is 00:14:33 was a fun thing i never had a real girlfriend before you had a good run yeah it was though it was it was a two-year thing that's a long that was the first first girlfriend i ever had too so it was a long time it was a good thing but it was uh she liked the long hair which was nice she had really long hair herself uh i always like long hair on women a lot more than i like the short hair generally like i wouldn't say you have short hair i think your hair is still long at least shoulders you know what i mean naturally short naturally without this it is short but um keep just putting yourself on blast i don't care uh wait did you guys ever do like uh like twinning twinning like hairstyles nah nah okay that's too much nah you ready nah uh okay so uh what
Starting point is 00:15:18 happened you guys were together for two years it wasn't your hair was it nah it wasn't the hair definitely not circumstances weren't lining up right oh no that sounds like some bullshit what does that mean circumcision i was gonna say wow you ain't circumcised that's what it sounded like you're gonna say uh circumstances weren't adding up right yeah i don't know what that means what is that became one of those things where it was like one of her breaking points was she wanted to spend more time together and part of me was like i feel like i see you as often as i possibly can right now yeah it's like she's talked about like she was a musician so she says you know i've rearranged my schedule to hang out with you and then you tell me like a day beforehand or even
Starting point is 00:15:54 the day of like oh i got an offer to do this spot so we'll all do that and then we can hang out afterwards yeah that's the life of a comedian that's how it goes why that's frustrating for her but at the same time i don't have the luxury of rearranging my schedule you know i'm at a point now where i got to take as much practice as i can get yeah what it is yeah look at you focus i like that she should be happy that you're really concerned and like focusing your comedy i remember like three or four months into our relationship all my comedy friends from virginia moved up here moved up to the city i remember telling her like yeah we'll be doing a lot more comedy so this i don't know what's gonna happen i'm gonna be a lot more busy i basically like
Starting point is 00:16:29 way overestimated how busy i would be i was basically fine for like a year and a half and then finally recently got to the point of being busy to the point that it was a problem for us right right that's kind of where that's kind of where that's how you know you're doing great in comedy when you fuck it up in your relationship comedy is booming you got to blow up yeah that's what i mean you're going to montreal you're about to be on tv son so i make a late night set which would mean make it worth it listen you don't need love you got laughter yeah now that's the way i'm going now for sure it's it's a lot more fun not being tied down just because it's like after two years you owe someone a little bit more of your time you know what i
Starting point is 00:17:05 mean you bring to the choir here this is i feel like this is ringing in a lot of people's ears right now yeah i was with a dude i was with my boyfriend for three years and everything that he expected to from me after that was realistic but it was like nah dude like i don't want to move in here and i don't want to see you every day and i don't need to talk to you it was a lot of that it was a lot of that uh but also i was like a terrible person so that yeah you know i still remember one of the hardest things with the uh breakup was uh i remember it was a wednesday night we had a really hard conversation when you say hard like what does that mean the night of the week yeah because because it's important in the story because that's the thing is i tried to i don't know how to this
Starting point is 00:17:46 is my first girlfriend so i don't know how to break up with someone i didn't know you could just straight up like hey i don't i don't know if we should see each other anymore that felt too sociopathic so i was kind of walking on eggshells pussyfooting around the issue and then wednesday i remember wednesday we had a really hard conversation where it was kind of like kind of coming to a close and then the day afterwards i went to work and i met rihanna at work she was filming a movie there and i had to come back to my apartment where my girlfriend is just moping like she and you're like you're living yeah you're living on the front like it just wasn't the on the rihanna fucking day at work right there it's like she's all sad like wiping
Starting point is 00:18:23 tears from her face how was work i'm like you know rihanna was there you like work was lit yeah i couldn't even lie but i posted a picture of it on facebook before i even got home you're like work work work work work that's what you were talking about well relationships suck we get it sydney you in a relationship now you know what you talk about oh hell yeah but i mean i also know that you being in a relationship is not bad like you just need somebody who understands what you're doing is like going to be first and the relationship is going to be second that's all that means like you just need somebody to understand a lot of people don't like being second though no most people don't but if you i mean i don't like being second that's why i can't
Starting point is 00:19:09 date people with kids i mean yeah i know you who wants to be second but you know that if you met someone and they were doing this before you, that's going to be first. That's what that is. People get in relationships and they're like, well, we've been together for this long and you're still doing this little comedy thing. They still
Starting point is 00:19:30 don't want to be second. They want to be first. But you'll never be first because God is first. Oh my God. Then my family. Then you. You're actually third. Let's talk about this hair.
Starting point is 00:19:46 What do you do, like, on a... Because, like, black hair is, like, it takes a long time to wash it. It takes a long time to comb through it. It's your whole day. It takes a long time for it to dry. It's your whole day. So, what's your wash schedule like? My wash schedule, usually I shower, like, maybe every other day.
Starting point is 00:20:02 You shower every other day? You don't shower every day. I wash my hair, I mean. But you wash your body every day. I wash my body just about, yeah. No, that means he washes every two to three days. That dirty beige body's on my gray couch. uh-huh i'm unprepared no he washed his body for you today he's washed his hair and his body okay
Starting point is 00:20:20 so do you shampoo and condition yeah absolutely or do you like sometimes just do like i'm just gonna condition nah i just do i do shampoo and conditioner if i can that's usually that's all it is i feel like you could use some more ends of it though yeah but i feel like you gotta get it's a little like frizzy it got a little uh flyaways going on you know what your hair is giving me right now hansen realness it is very hansen i get that a lot i feel like you could condition a little bit more though because it's a little dry in the back silky it is silky but it's also like dry right here here is all the silk and then the back that's why you have to go get it done there's like a highlight piece right here okay hold on just for the record i
Starting point is 00:21:07 looked up jonathan taylor thomas and he was the voice of simba in the lion king and he was like the son on home improvement but how do y'all not know who the hell simba is no we don't know voices sis great thanks for each one teach one i feel like he was also in the cupboard maybe i might be making that up anyway whatever uh so um hold on i'm just scrolling through to see what else he and nothing she's a mess so right what is the like do you trim your hair like do you get it cut at the salon or you just i usually i really only go like once every year year and a half just get one big chop and then send it in and then call it done let me tell you if you went to the dominicans my man yo when you come out do you ever blow dry your hair ever uh not typically no
Starting point is 00:21:56 you don't put no heat on it or dye it do you hear that's why it's thriving eight inches a year because he doesn't blow it out. I use my head like a hair farm, y'all. It's just once a year, just send in eight inches and then grow it back out like a harvest. Yeah, but you can donate hair even though you smoke?
Starting point is 00:22:11 Yeah. Yeah? Because when you smoke, it lies in your hair. Like, people know that you can do drugs through your hair. Well, yeah, but all your hair is dead anyway. So it's like,
Starting point is 00:22:22 as soon as you cut it off your head, Sydney, I didn't know you were a scientist. When you smoke, it lies in your hair. well it does oh my god it does you learn that from like csi you do the kids are bald and they need weed hair wow marie i read all the requirements for donations all it says is just don't have it dyed and don't have it uh straightened and have it clean that's all that's all they say i think there should be more requirements why like what kind of pillow do you sleep on is it down does it like sydney the kids just want
Starting point is 00:23:00 some bangs that's all they want yeah so how do you like what do they do with the hair that you donate uh they put it they put it on wigs um i read it takes about like uh i remember reading it takes like five or six eight inch ponytails to make like a proper wig um or at least that's what pantene was saying that's what i used last dayline i feel like you need more they call it pantene beautiful lengths i was sending it to locks of love for a minute but then everybody kept telling me that they really usually just resell the hair oh is that the real tea do you believe that i do yeah after looking it up yeah a lot of people have been getting on locks i know i have hashtag locks for sid so i believe that i definitely believe that locks for sid i hate you
Starting point is 00:23:42 so much okay so locks for love is one that like you don't trust so so you only do it through pantene uh now i am yeah last time last time i did it uh because i got a haircut a few months ago the one before that like last year i sent in blocks of love just because it was what i was used to doing right but now i send it to pantene they actually make wigs for um for for grown women which is good not just not kids they use the wigs for like adult wigs is there a different type of wig like for kids i think it's probably a smaller size yeah it's a smaller size but i'm talking about the style it's probably just like straight old people like curls you know like the golden girl's hair yo an old lady's walking around with your hair in a pressing curl right now
Starting point is 00:24:24 well you can't put they don't put heat on the waves do they it's human hair yeah that's right well look at you i feel like you're definitely going to heaven just donating your hair on top of that i hope so how do you donate hair though does it send you like an envelope or something nah you just uh you put it in a ponytail and as long as the ponytail is eight inches you put you have to use two hair ties one at the top and one at the bottom okay and as long as that is eight inches you cut it off right above the top uh top tie or whatever top hair tie they cut eight inches off your that means your hair was like down to my hair i had like i had like a homeless amount of hair before a homeless amount yeah it was like down it was
Starting point is 00:25:03 past my elbows you know that it was way but isn't that too like how do you isn't that uncomfortable like don't you get it don't you get caught when you're like laying down and you have to get up because it's like it was getting too long i'm like i need to send it in because i think i was waiting on it for a while just because i didn't think i was gonna make the eight inches i'm always afraid that i'm gonna get it cut and it's gonna be like above my shoulders i hate how that looks i do not like having hair above my shoulders i like having it fall yeah i feel like when it says your shoulders it's very trailer park but i could be wrong i remember getting a haircut and they just cut it like straight across like above my shoulder oh you look like you're in a cult
Starting point is 00:25:40 disgusting yeah it looked disgusting so i was like not never again so you have this this long hair how is it in the bedroom when you get you throwing it over your shoulder while you're throwing it back or not i need i've i make sure i have condoms and hair ties on me condoms and hair ties nigga that's an album if you want condoms and hair ties that's your that's your right there dude oh my god you gotta use that that's you right there dude that's your comedy album oh that's good yeah you're right though yeah you gotta hold it back because otherwise i can't see shit okay but but some girls well actually some pornos i've seen um the guy has his hair and it's kind of like very um i don't know like kid rockish like it's on the side of
Starting point is 00:26:27 their show it's on the side of their head side of their shoulder while they're like banging it out and like he's just putting his hands through his fingers through his hair. Did you watch his porn this morning? He's running his fingers through his hair and he's like. And throwing it over one shoulder. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:46 Do you do that? Not really. I usually. You're too neat. You're being neat with it dude. I do a lot of little mermaids. Yes! Did you see that? Oh my god guys. Listeners if you just saw what the aerial flip he just did. little mermaid i'm gonna get that in slow-mo yeah oh we're posting that my boo that's we're posting
Starting point is 00:27:06 that was beautiful wait can you do that one more time yeah of course i have you do you want to get on film you want me no no we just want to see yeah yeah that was so good that was perfect oh my gosh i'm gonna try to do that later okay it's not gonna look like that okay so sex is fine um do you have women playing your hair yeah for sure that's why i keep that's half the reason i keep it around really yeah for sure do you like people playing in your hair absolutely no i think that's it's weird i don't like people playing in my hair unless you're just gonna like hit it with some coconut oil on the scalp don't touch my hair but you know i see people like in relationships and the guy is like touching the girl's hair and he's running his fingers through it like i don't
Starting point is 00:27:51 find that sexy but you like when women do that yeah is it a turn on or is it just more like oh it feels good it's it's both it feels good especially if they you know they start doing that scalp shit and they start scratching your scalp that that's that's like dandruff underneath my nails no i can't no that's too much you know like can you go get like a shampoo or something salon they do that shit where they they do that it's that it's like a diet version of that and it feels great but diet that then you're gonna have to tip me bro did you know to tip me if i'm doing that nah playing with the hair yeah playing with hair is at least showing does your hair get caught in things like has have you ever gotten your hair caught like a train door or like somebody
Starting point is 00:28:30 that's marie's life right there that is my life it's never gotten caught in anything nah not usually my hair is usually i usually wear it up if i'm traveling because it's flat too yeah it's not like big like marie's hair is where it comes out yeah so like you're more prone to getting caught No, I smack people in the face with my hair regularly. Your hair's rude. No, I smack people in the face all the time. That's my problem, because I'll do some head and tooth and shit like that. Oh, wait.
Starting point is 00:28:52 See, that is my number one pet peeve. I hate when people flip their hair and you don't look back. Can you please look back before you flip it? Because then you're hitting me in the eye. I feel like when you had the longer hair, you were flipping it and hitting people in the face. Oh, no, no, no, no. I would keep it straight. When it comes to that, because I hate getting hit in the face, but at the same time, if
Starting point is 00:29:10 I flip my hair and someone gets mad at me, I don't think too much of it. You feel like you should have moved. You're like, yeah, you were in the Splash Zone. Get the fuck out of the way. Listen, I'm very particular about my hair when it's straight. So I would always have it come to the front. I would never flip it back because then it would be unbalanced. And then there would be parts that would be thinner on one side.
Starting point is 00:29:29 That sounds like a you problem. Yeah, but I don't do the flip. I think that's very Caucasian. Yes, just what he just did. Wait, can we talk about work? where are you working with this long ass kid rock oh you can work anywhere oh i work as a barista it's i work okay see that sounds like where you should be no no i think that's nasty because you can get hair in the food or drink no it's tied up it's always in a bun you need a hair net my man
Starting point is 00:29:58 and probably well then he needs a net for his beard he got a beard hairs too yeah they're real no but actually your beard looks very nice it looks very well groomed it looks good let's talk about the beard what came first the hair or the beard the hair the hair definitely for a while the hair yeah it looked like it just finally grew in properly this beard it looked like you struggled with it for years like you've been taking your vitamins and praying and hoping that it would come in properly yeah i remember my dad told me i'd be 30 before i get a goatee and i i believed him because that's my dad you know he would know better than anybody else but it took forever to get this oh yeah it looks like it's finally like well that's like by the time i
Starting point is 00:30:41 got like all this in the little bit that was supposed to be where my mustache is the little bit that was coming in was all blonde you don't have a mustache what's going on with that mustache what's up with that i was like i'd rather shave it off and just keep the keep the chin strap you know like it's very it's very um like amish rock band yeah i've i've heard uh amish james vanderbeek before is what i usually i usually don't like guys who have beards and no mustache but this works for you this definitely works because when you don't have a mustache it makes you look really young so sometimes when men are like older men have no mustache at all i'm like when you're on the front creepy when you walk down the street do people be scream things that
Starting point is 00:31:21 you like jebediah where you going my man nah i've never gotten amish cat called before No, Zachariah, what's good, dude? I'm going to go to Pennsylvania and see how I do there. Steven, I want to bring it back. Growing up, did you ever get lice? No, not that I remember. Oh, that's blessed for you. Because in middle school, yo, they would have like every other month,
Starting point is 00:31:44 it would be like somebody got lice. Nobody can go to school tomorrow because we got to get this lice. Well, that's because you went to a dirty school. No, it's not a dirty school. We didn't have lice scares. I mean, I didn't because black people don't get lice. Yeah, black people don't get lice. they can't they can't uh the coil the coil in her hair lice lice don't like our hair and i'm cool
Starting point is 00:32:04 with hair lice is racist lice don't live here no more lice hasn't gentrified our scalps yet and i'm cool with that so wait you didn't meet anybody who's ever had lice before i'm sure i've met someone but i can't think of like in school like that never happened because if you had got lice i remember getting checked for lice when i was a kid but i never had them so maybe lice is just like an early 2000s thing then. Lice is a TV team. Lice is a TV team. Yes, it is.
Starting point is 00:32:33 Lice was real hot when Goosebumps was around. I'm going to Google that or I'm going to tweet it out and be like, when's the last time you heard anybody getting lice? Lice and crabs. Nobody has gotten crabs or lice in like over
Starting point is 00:32:48 10 years. Dude, I've never had crabs. No, me neither. Alright, Sydney, wink. shut up oh you're such a bitch never had crabs or lice sir just to let you know so has have you ever gone to your uh to your job and somebody said something about your hair or said they found hair in their food and you were like that's not my color or that's not me no i've never had someone complain they find hair in the food i have people comment on my hair all the time what what kind of things do they say nice things you know especially if sometimes i'll just wear it down for like half
Starting point is 00:33:19 a second especially like usually when i get off work and i'll just hop on the other side of the bar and just chill for a second and they don't even recognize me because i wear my hair in a pony or in the bun so often people like the bun like people compliment you on the bun yeah i find that hard to believe only a few people do they okay like the top knot more than they like the bottom knot no no i like the bottom knot the top knot is obnoxious and i think it's just too much that's why i like the top knot it's as obnoxious well because the low the low knot is like librarian shh you can't talk here like that low knot right that's like the well i have to wear the low knot because i have to wear a hat while i'm working so i have to wear the buns wait you're
Starting point is 00:33:59 you're one of those baristas that have like a visor on no not a hat dude not a visor a hat like a regular if you had a visor on he could wear the bun okay yeah sorry actually i'm gonna buy a visor like one of those clear you should it was a bun with the visor oh that's such a good look that's gonna be fun condoms and uh condoms visors and hair ties yes you should do that oh my wait so right so the low bun when i see people with that i think uh like librarian but when you put it up in a top knot i feel like that's like cool uh gentrified brooklyn artisanal mayonnaise that's low bun low bun feels very gas station to me yeah low bun feels very i don't know it feels very pretentious to me that's why that's why i don't pretend just you think no the low bun is
Starting point is 00:34:53 approachable i feel like you're approachable with this yeah yeah yeah low bun is like i might date black women yeah low bun low bun i can ask you for direction really it's like hey do you know how to get to uh dunkin donuts like that i feel like you i can talk to you like yeah you're gonna take a left rat here and then bust another rat i always just did the high bun just because it was easier for all my hair to reach this this the like crown of my head than it was for the to reach the bottom of my head because the hair from the front wasn't reaching initially when i started putting my hair in a bun how long it is he just threw it back for us ladies high bun feels very like you're you might be in first class low bun is very coach you like in the back it's more approachable i guess
Starting point is 00:35:34 very greyhound high bun is on the bus every day low bun is on the bus and high bun is on uh the amtrak okay uh what about fashion what what do you wear with these uh different what does a bun pair with yeah oh anything i'm gonna say no i'm gonna say a lot of uh a button down is a no with a high bun uh dude that's all i wear man it's very stereotypical i'm aware of that but it looks all right i get compliments on it it became because i used to work at a barbecue restaurant and our whole really what barbecue restaurant it's called blue smoke on that's a good one they have jazz there yeah hell yeah it's kind of expensive though you gotta you gotta bring your electric bass back out do you have a hook up there
Starting point is 00:36:20 can me and marie come through uh probably not all right then you can do nothing for us you got fired i've been uh no i quit i've been out the game for too long but i know a few managers one of my buddies that i started with as a manager there now so maybe what's his name catch a jazz show alex johnson my man hey what up alex alex is our man now hey boo uh we're coming to see you come to see some uh mingus mondays oh it's on mondays let's go next monday yeah let's go i'm down every monday um i'm here for it i am but no i'm gonna say i started wearing the button down with the bun because our work uniform was always just plaid button downs barbecue restaurant so everyone had to wear plaid button downs i remember wearing i never liked the man bun i was working at
Starting point is 00:36:58 the uh restaurant at the time i'd never worn a man bun before i think i was less than like a year living in the city i wore a bun on a sunday just calling it sunday bun day oh my god i love that i was bored and then everyone was like that looks so much better just wear that instead of and i'm like all right yeah i think i can do that you know y'all uh when everyone agrees on something i'll listen to them you know so i started wearing start wearing the bun uh the top knot a lot more and then that that's kind of where that was born from i don't know i just feel like a top bun is i feel like you're gonna take you're gonna take longer in the shower it feels very high maintenance look how healthy his hair is dude it feels like oh my god and he's twisting
Starting point is 00:37:43 it lady feels like you would ask me a lot of questions like when we're on a date when you wear a high bun i don't like high buns of course i am oh it looks good it looks good i like it thank you it looks good dude it gets off my neck that's why the top knot is such a fucking great thing because the low buns fine but this like my neck can finally breathe i feel like you should have some tattoos though i know i need more tattoos i want more tattoos i got these two i got the eyeballs on my wrist and i got one tattoo on my back but i feel like you need an eight ball going across your neck that's what you should do it like pairs well with that bun and i also feel like you should be sleeveless when you wear a high bun sleeveless yeah yeah
Starting point is 00:38:24 no sleeves yeah yeah yeah i actually can kind of see that very king of the hill see cindy you doing a lot i am now what's the end goal with the hair like we want to like we just gonna keep growing it out yeah i figure um i'm just gonna keep it long i figure honestly i'm gonna keep it long until i have a kid and then uh and then i'll probably cut it why because i don't think i don't want to have you don't think he's gonna respect you if you have a bun exactly you're like go to your room fuck out of here you got a bun smoking fucking comedian oh my god yeah exactly i'm gonna keep it keep it long until i have a kid and have to stop fucking around and then probably cut it then you can't throw the diaper
Starting point is 00:39:10 bag on the shoulder because the hair might get caught where the diaper bag strap is also if you put the baby in the little baby bjorn the little baby backpack and he's like pulling on your hair you don't look like a man yeah exactly plus my i was raised in a military town too so it's like i don't know i know none of the men i knew growing up had long hair they're all short buzz cut military but that's okay and i like what you're doing i don't know i think it's more like me projecting yeah i think so i respect dudes with long hair be the change yeah be the change i like this i think when you have a kid you should keep the bun don't you said you respect dudes with long hair a lot less yeah a lot less coming from somebody with i don't like dudes with ponytails
Starting point is 00:39:55 i don't think people know that that's one of my you wearing a top knot but you have problems with ponytails see i don't see what the difference is just like i feel like it's the same just like a do with a top knot talking down on people with ponytails yeah it's only because i know who you are i know why you're doing that we're on the same team you can't fool me i know what you're doing it's i don't i don't know i do you do you ever do like a half up half down or is it always oh that's terrible i'm just nah nah i don't do the half yeah that's gross it turns into like a pony bun if my shit starts falling out like if i don't keep track of it and then all of a sudden i turn around like half my hair is out the bun and half of it's still in the bun but that's only if i
Starting point is 00:40:32 and keep track of it and I've been working or something. I have a personal question. What's that? Have you ever like cried with your hair down?
Starting point is 00:40:43 Like a little curtain. Yes, and then put your hair back behind your ear while you're crying. Have you done that before? Because I see girls do that all the time.
Starting point is 00:40:54 Like they're like trying to move their hair around while they're like crying. Have you done that? Plenty, yeah. You've cried before? Not in public. Not in public.
Starting point is 00:41:01 Like, you're like, nah, nah, nah, I'm taking this inside, yo. I'll fucking bottle that shit until I get home. Absolutely. That's how you cry. That's how a real man cries. That's some military shit. Bottle that shit until you get home behind a closed door. When's the last time you cried?
Starting point is 00:41:13 Suck those tears in. Probably like a month ago. Ooh, what happened? The breakup, yo. You cried over the breakup? Y'all broke up a month ago? Yeah, I was crying for a little while. But you met Rihanna.
Starting point is 00:41:23 I know. The night of your breakup, you met Rihanna. Also, she's sick now, so. I know, she looked great. um yeah no that's well the thing with the breakup that was hard was i i was the breaker upper so it's like initially it's like this weight that's relieved off of you but then it fucks with you later in ways that you're not anticipating especially as someone who's never been in a relationship before or broken up with someone before summertime this is a perfect time man
Starting point is 00:41:48 like you out here you got your man bun thriving like you know there's somebody out here for you so now you can chill you don't have to worry about having you know obligation you don't have to buy gifts like that's true you know christmas is gonna come thanksgiving like i had a boyfriend for three years and everything sydney's saying that you don't have to worry about as a single person i didn't worry about when i was in a relationship so that's probably why i ain't got no man now but i'm out here living my best single life uh and uh you know maybe he's better for it he probably yeah yeah yeah that's that's how i feel too yeah i i shamelessly stalk my ex on facebook from do you okay how does it feel when you're stalking let's talk about it for a little
Starting point is 00:42:28 bit with my ex while you talk about yeah it depends well last time i checked like i i think she's a musician and i check her page and she has like all these tour dates up for her band for like half a second i felt this like twins of jealousy that she's doing all this cool shit and then i felt relieved because i'm like she's doing way more now than she ever did when we were in a relationship and you think that's because of you yeah because you let her go because she's probably throwing herself into work now or if she's a smart ex she just threw up all them dates and there's not even real dates to make it look like she's doing shit maybe i don't know so you think she's doing shit maybe i don't know i hope she's doing shit so i'm gonna be like hell no she
Starting point is 00:43:07 is i'm sure she is i'm joking i'm glad you know but you know what i'm glad that she's doing stuff me too without you i mean artists need to go off and do artistry all the time now artists need to feel pain to release dope art remember adele that album where that she was talking about that dude who broke my heart what i'm worried about is hearing my fucking songs that she's gonna write about me they're gonna be good no they're coming she writes moody sad music really well i might add oh it's gonna crush oh it's gonna crush there's gonna be great songs but you helped her you you should be like yeah i did that yeah like you should take like full responsibility like yeah that's me when you hear that that's me that's what you should do she's talking about me right now
Starting point is 00:43:47 We'll see. We'll see. I feel like I fucked up a lot towards the end. I'm about to be a whole EP. Oh, wait. What'd you fuck up? What were you doing? It was a two-year thing.
Starting point is 00:43:55 I felt like my first year, my boyfriend game was unbelievable. First year? Yeah, you were like, what were you doing? Flowers for no reason? Flowers for no reason. My gift game was off the chart. What kind of gifts? Just knocking out the park for Christmas, Valentine's, little shit.
Starting point is 00:44:09 Okay, but let me hear one of the gifts you got her. I remember, you know what really got her? I remember one day I was working. I used to work you know I said I worked at the gym I worked at the kids club of the gym
Starting point is 00:44:20 and so I worked with kids all day so I made her a cootie catcher you know you remember when you were in elementary school a cootie catcher with a bunch of like cute shit
Starting point is 00:44:29 written inside of it about like your mom doesn't appreciate all the shit you do for her like stuff like that just like nice shit that I know she wants to hear
Starting point is 00:44:37 that's a gift yeah that was a gift fuck that ass I was like fuck that ass what is this that's a Wednesday afternoon okay that's a
Starting point is 00:44:44 That's not a birthday present. Yeah, I'm talking about, like, Valentine's Day. What did you get her for Christmas or Valentine's Day? One of those gifts. I remember, oh, on Valentine's Day, she had been talking about wanting to go fishing for, like, forever. This bitch wanted to go fishing? She wanted to go fishing. Oh, yeah, she was definitely a different breed of woman because I'm not trying to go Valentine's Day and fishing.
Starting point is 00:45:02 No, that's not going to work for me. Yeah, no, she was a keeper. Yeah, she wanted to go fishing, so I bought two fishing rods. Those are expensive. Yeah, I know. Those are not cheap. And then some lines, some hooks, all that garbage, some bait. You had to get worms and whatnot.
Starting point is 00:45:17 Okay. Bought worms for a girl. And then. That's hot. Yeah, that's super hot. And then we went out fishing. That was really fun. What else did we get?
Starting point is 00:45:28 Christmas. I remember getting her. I was kind of just tapped out. I didn't know what to get her. I got her a $200 gift card to Guitar Center. Because I knew she'd been watching music. That is a good gift. That's a good gift.
Starting point is 00:45:41 And she's using that guitar. our money to make music about you now i made her a bong our first year together you made her a bong how'd you do that with an apple no i know it was legit do not talk down on my bong it was uh it was uh old i can't remember what the fuck kind of bottle it was i got in this phase where i wasn't doing comedy i was just making bongs i was bored and i had this glass no i'm not i ain't about that yeah you didn't bring us gifts these two queens coochie cutters yeah what's up with that i'll bring you guys uh unofficial expert bong one of these yes we'll appreciate that yeah absolutely i didn't i didn't think of it but i will soon but
Starting point is 00:46:17 her bong was uh it was a big uh big bottle and it had her band's logo that i engraved on the front like with a glass what a glass etcher i engraved in the front it was an intricate fucking logo yeah that's how you make the bong and you can draw shit on it usually you just write your name on whatever it is but you can draw shit so i etched her band's name and uh logo on the front of this bong uh and then gave it to her for her birthday that was her first birthday and then also got her uh that was not her only gift she liked to make edibles because she's a singer but she's also a big pothead so she didn't like to smoke so she always made edibles so i bought her like a high times cooking book look at that recipes you were thoughtful as a motherfucker like that
Starting point is 00:46:59 is that's impressive and then the second year you were like yeah all that shit i did the first year can that hold me over you look i got you two birthday gifts last year use one of them this here yeah exactly i'm not gonna i'm not gonna listen you can't keep that up that's why you gotta start low and then she got mad at me last valentine's day we did because she said i spent too much money which i thought was a funny complaint that's beautiful that she said that but she was really being like you didn't spend enough that's what she was saying her issue was like i was about to get a thoughtful gift for valentine's day she'd been talking about wanting to get a like electric scooter for like a minute i want an electric scooter can you give me one
Starting point is 00:47:37 can we fake date and you give me one and then i break up with you and scoot out of your life but those scooters are like three three fifty four hundred dollars so yeah i'm like fuck what am i gonna do and then she and then like a week or two before valentine's day she was like let's not spend too much money on valentine's i'm like fucking perfect let's not that's too much for valentine's day anything that's like a birthday gift yeah right i ended up spending 150 and then she asked me how much money i spent on her gifts why would she ask that i don't know she could have googled and found out why would she ask you that's rude that's rude that's like asking somebody how much they pay for rent yeah well that's what made me feel bad was her valentine's day gift was
Starting point is 00:48:20 fucking great what'd she get you she got me some doc martens that i love wearing how much are doc martens they're not cheap they're pretty expensive not cheap and then she got me the one that blew me away she got me a um she it was a it was a ring pop inside this little ring box and on the front of the box said i love you so much i want to da da da da da like she's gonna propose to me and then you open the ring box and it's just like one of the candy ring pops i love ring pops but here's the thing she had like carved out the middle of it into a little bowl filled the ring pop full of coke and on the inside of the box it said okay you lost me there you lost me at the coke bro lol jk let's do coke i'm like that is an amazing you are never gonna find a girl like
Starting point is 00:49:03 never again. Do you know how hard it is to carve out a ring motherfucking pop and then put cocaine in it? That means she had to pay for the cocaine on top of the fucking ring pop. Yo, you should have married this bitch. What's wrong with you, dude? Get your man butt
Starting point is 00:49:19 ass out of here. You failed at everything, my man. Wait, so what are some... Yo, dude. I'm overwhelmed. No one's ever going to get you a gift like that ever. I know I'm gonna have to buy my own coke
Starting point is 00:49:35 have you been in love like that to do that I've never bought cocaine for somebody I've never done that there's not one person I would have thought to do that for I'll get you a ring pop but it'll be in the little ring pop bag and I'm definitely not buying you coke it'll be a little bit crushed I'll probably lick it and then put it back in the bag
Starting point is 00:49:51 if I buy you coke I'm gonna do half of it and then give you the bag there was coke in this lick the rest there's a coke residue coke residual for valentine's day just breathe near my mouth you get some of this coke too oh man so cocaine makes me ask want to ask you what are some like common stereotypes that people have about guys with
Starting point is 00:50:21 long hair uh stoner is a big one that's actually true that's why i wanted to start smoking weed i had long hair before i ever started smoking weed i remember in high school people would crack stoner jokes all the time i would just go with it yeah it was good for a laugh yeah yeah exactly and then at some point i'm like i'm lying to all these people i gotta start smoking weed i gotta stop being dishonest so i started smoking weed to stay honest to stay honest yeah exactly it'd be virtuous hilarious what else people call people i feel like people think that like white dudes with long hair are like kind of rednecky yeah that's a big one no it depends on the depends on the greater hair because if your hair is stringy and oily that is redneck but the way you have the
Starting point is 00:51:01 volume it could tell like you know your dad is you have a mother like right also the beard that you have with this hair doesn't scream redneck i think redneck beard is like different but then again if i see you in like a vest a puffer vest you could look like a redneck yeah for sure it's very versatile it depends on what you got on what else what are some other things that people i mean you used to work with kids and you had long hair did you feel like people were looking at you like it took it took a while yeah for them to like adjust to that it was the only saving grace was that i'm great with kids so it was like their parents would come back and the kids would be stoked they don't want to leave well you are you seem like a kid you get you have like my dad's
Starting point is 00:51:44 been an elementary school principal since i was a little kid so it's like i'm used to hanging around with little kids i feel like a large child most of the time yes you're very youthful you have like give me youth vibes about like the the must shaving off the mustache makes you look a lot younger i feel like that helped a lot when i was working in the kids club because it's like people don't like seeing dudes in child care but then you see some young dude with a bun and no mustache yeah kind of fits a little bit better but then i'll be like does he change his sheets though because like my parents don't give a fuck don't think about that talking about his damn sheets make sure my kid's still breathing when i come back right okay don't give him to me in three
Starting point is 00:52:20 pieces um okay so what else what can you tell us about uh the life of the man bun dude in 2017 that you think people don't know like uh my neck's a lot hotter than most people think uh they don't realize how tactical the man bun is it's not often a fashion statement it's mostly just so i don't overheat walking around the city and that's for you but i've seen a lot of these dudes like they got mad product in it like you could tell that they have a certain brush they've brushed their they got designs and shit and then they shave they shave the back of their hair like it's a lot going on you don't respect those man bun i always i feel like you should only be allowed to wear a man bun if the hair from the front of your head in the back of your head reaches the whole fucking
