Good morning, afternoon, or evening. I don't know when you're listening to this, but this is Marie. That was Sydney. This is Sydney, right here. Yeah, that's Sydney. And welcome to the Unofficial Expert.
Starting point is 00:00:34 We so damn smart. Everybody's an expert on this show. Yeah, we only talk to the smartest people in the world. Honestly. That's why Sydney and I are friends. Seriously. Sydney, what were you an expert at this week? Oh, you know, just hanging out with celebs.
Starting point is 00:00:51 Don't hate. Like, honestly, not everybody can hang out with, like, a platinum recording artist such as Cam'ron. I'm sorry, you didn't finish his intro. A platinum selling artist who hasn't had a single since 2008, such as Cam'ron. Oh, boy. Hey, Ma. What up? Hey, listen.
Starting point is 00:01:14 Hey, Ma. Stop. See, I was working at my job because I have so many jobs. And I was working and he was performing that night and I got to, you know, serve slash hang out slash make fun slash take notes slash make fun some more of Cameron and his entourage. What happened with the entourage? Tell us the story. Well, so I was in the quote, quote, green room where they were prepping before the performance. And I was serving these great gentlemen, you know, Hennessy, cranberry, and pineapple juice on the rocks. First, he came in and he asked for Malibu.
Starting point is 00:01:57 And, you know, he just, I looked at him and shook my head and said no. My little sister drinks Malibu rum. That's, it's like Malibu is a starter drink in a club. You don't drink coconut liquor rum. Like you don't, that's not a, hey, I get bitches drink. No, absolutely not. So he asked for that and I laughed. And, you know, the girls that were with him were just obviously cousins.
Starting point is 00:02:23 What did they look like? Did they have on Fashion Nova clothes? Did they look like Instagram models? Missing a couple of teeth in the back. Damn. Edges were missing as well. We have a milk carton of just their edges. Wow.
Starting point is 00:02:37 And I tried to pour them champagne, and they were like, we don't drink champagne. And I was like, okay, I see what I'm working with. But anyway, we brought them some little waffles with, like, fruit on it. And one of his friends, probably wearing a sweatshirt from Jimmy Jazz, was like, ooh, those are delicatessen. Delicatessen. as in a deli yeah but he thought he said a delicacy Cameron do you hear this and when I tell you I screamed from the mountain top I said did you just say delicatessen and he's like yeah that's what they are and I was like man okay you right I'm wrong delicatessen and I laughed
Starting point is 00:03:27 so hard um i think that's the funniest thing when somebody is so confident in their incorrectness but that's like they can't like he just shouted it like he knew it to be fact well that's why he haven't had a hit in a while because that's the people in his crew you you don't even know what a delicacy or is or a delicatessen like it's ridiculous but i don't know i took a couple pictures with the boy and um you know he sounded like he had asthma but it was fine he was he did what he had to do he had on um i don't know pocket square that had a lot of g's on it i don't know if it's necessarily gucci but you know some people just like the label that's it i get it cameron if you're listening to the podcast i we'd love to have you on as a as the label whore expert
Starting point is 00:04:16 as as the bankrupt didn't he go bankrupt i believe donald trump went bankrupt and mc hammer went bankrupt and alan iverson if any of those three people are listening to the podcast right now we would love to have you on as our bankruptcy experts come through uh marie what were you an expert in this week uh i was an expert at um making people feel bad about my hair let me explain yeah so i am a natural queen and right now i'm wearing the world's most obnoxious uh 29 and a half inch weave and when people are like oh your hair looks great is that the silk straightening somebody asked me yesterday if i had a silken silkening treatment in and i was like what this is a weave and he's like yeah well you know black women you you can never assume that it's i said my
Starting point is 00:05:08 hair last week was at my shoulders and today it's down my butt crack so i yelled at him for that they can't see where you installed it thank you that little part right no i had a hat on you know the hat the hat holds the hat holds you look very mocha hauntus quite the hat holds the whole look together uh and you haitian so i was like you know she's west indian y'all got long hair it works i mean but then i yelled at this other dude for assuming that it was a weave um just confusing people left and right you're awful i mean it wasn't in the same venue but this other dude was like wow that wheat that's a lot of weave and i was like excuse you do you know my birth parents to just be assuming that this is a weave.
Starting point is 00:05:47 This is coming out my scalp. And he was like, oh, I knew that. I was like, can't you see this part, nigga? I was like, this is a silkening treatment. And he was like, I don't even know what that means. I was like, neither do I. Can't you see this part? It's a Brazilian keratin treatment.
Starting point is 00:06:02 So that's what I was an expert at this week. Oh, my God. Sydney. Yo, you would just be hurting everybody's feelings. They don't know what to do. I know. I'm surprised people even talk to you. Every time somebody speaks to me, I'm shocked
Starting point is 00:06:15 I'm like, why are you speaking Please don't embrace me, okay Every time You are so rude, and I love it, that's why we're friends I'm surprised you weren't rude like that to me But you know that you wasn't going to talk to me like that I, listen I don't talk to black women like that
Starting point is 00:06:31 You know, I talk to black men like that I'm like, who are you talking to right now Who are you speaking to right now You are in the presence of royalty how do you speak to white men white men i just don't talk to them oh nice i just i'd be i look through white men because you know they got that clear skin anyway oh my god i just be seen through listen the white guys that are listening marie is just having a moment she speaks to y'all don't she's caught up today what i'm sorry her installment is a little tight
Starting point is 00:07:03 installment is listen let me hold on okay let me let me correct myself oh wait no it's white men white men speak to me but i don't speak to them like she doesn't start the conversation no they'd be like wow and i'm like what and they're like that's normally how the conversations yo you know that listen yo when you turn up missing i'm gonna be right there doing the eulogy saying listen i told her stop talking recklessly anglo-saxons her body is in a bag right now listen if i come up missing you know you gotta search all the whole foods in manhattan listen you gotta search rose bar when you on that slab i'm like yo give me that hair give me them 29 inches i'll
Starting point is 00:07:53 take it you know what i'll make a nice wig speaking of wigs um our guest today does not have a wig she is a natural nubian goddess so natural i actually she's absolutely one of my favorites i feel like her hair is sydney's hair goals yeah i thought we were going to start in 2017 well i'm uplifting her i thought you were gonna uplift okay you know what let me go back let me go back let me go back for better reverse it um this guest is one of my favorite people on the new york comedy scene thank you right she's done the warm-up our show a couple times so many times people are mad they're in my inbox literally they'd be like well amina amani's been up four times i've seen her name on the lineup many times yeah why can't i do some time i'm like
Starting point is 00:08:50 Because we don't like you. Because you've been 86ed. You no longer allowed to do the warm-up. Listen, if you're listening to this and you've done the warm-up just one time and you're wondering why you can't do it again, it's because you might be on the do not call list. Marie, we're starting wrong. Do you know that?
Starting point is 00:09:05 I feel like we're starting correct. Okay, can you just bring her in? Okay, this person that we have here is a comedian, a mother, a sister, a friend. A philanthropist. You said that. you took all the guests that already thank you uh she's our um expert in all things frugal and money saving uh give it up for amina imani hey girl y'all are hilarious yo we we were really going in that was quite no i was like should i come in
Starting point is 00:09:39 honestly we can try to save them no just let them burn there's no saving us because You got to let it burn sometimes. Yeah, we're here. We're here to burn. We're incense right now. Amina, how are you? Please introduce yourself to the people listening. I'm good.
Starting point is 00:09:55 What's up, everybody? My name's Amina Imani. Are you from New York? No. I'm not from New York. Where are you from? I'm from Atlanta. I was born in Providence, Rhode Island.
Starting point is 00:10:03 Y'all might not know this. No, I didn't know that. I know where that is. That's where the poor white people live. Well, my family actually lived in Newport, but I'm a twin. So, they didn't have a hospital to deliver twins at the time. So, they had to travel. Amina, when were you born?
Starting point is 00:10:20 The 1920s? What? They couldn't support two babies? Well, you know, some doctors have specialty. Do they helicopter your... You know, for that town, they didn't have that doctor or... But isn't it just one baby comes out and then, like, the other baby comes out? Listen, that's the story I was told.
Starting point is 00:10:36 I don't know the specifics. I just know that's why we were born outside. They didn't pay your insurance in full. so they were like what your mother meant to tell you is one of y'all was born in Newport
Starting point is 00:10:47 and then she had the other baby in another place because they were like we not paying for two babies here anyway we didn't even live there that long
Starting point is 00:10:55 we were raised in Atlanta, Georgia because your mother was like we need better in our lives we're gonna go to Atlanta we also know Atlanta is like
Starting point is 00:11:02 black Hollywood like you can have $600 and you're like NeNe Leakes in Atlanta we had a big family I'm the youngest of seven so
Starting point is 00:11:10 wow your mom gets it well she only had five in her defense and my dad had two so we're a blended family like the Brady Bunch my mom had two my dad had two then they had us three
Starting point is 00:11:24 so you have two parents that's great Sydney's jealous she's dealing with it well extra parents if you really think about it because I know my sister's parents oh you know them too what do you call them by their first name you call them like other mom
Starting point is 00:11:40 Yeah, I call some by their first name, and then my mom's children, we call their mom and dad, mommy and daddy. Wow. Wow. I mean, so you used to live in Atlanta. You're one of seven. So is that how you learned to save money? Because your parents were like, it's too many people to feed in this house.
Starting point is 00:11:59 Yeah, I always had to share all the time. I have a twin, so it was like we had to share a lot of things. I shared- Clothes. Yeah, clothes. Men. Vibrators. No, we never-
Starting point is 00:12:08 Sheets. no but one time my sister came home and she was about to stop working and I was like oh she was like I'm about to quit my job
Starting point is 00:12:16 I was like no I need one and I worked with her for like a year oh no way are you serious that is hilarious but did you get
Starting point is 00:12:24 to keep the money all the money was mine I cashed all her checks and everything she had two IDs at the time yeah yeah yeah and then the whole time
Starting point is 00:12:31 she was working somewhere else yeah she went somewhere else to work so the whole time you just adding to her social security benefits yeah she was
Starting point is 00:12:36 at the time we're dependents and if you don't make a certain amount it doesn't matter yeah it wasn't like we was balling out it wasn't like i had a you know but you and your sister are not the same like you guys are not they look identical because we used to wear braids okay we were kids you know well you because you said that you guys are fraternal but you guys look exactly you guys really are fraternal but now you i feel like you can see as we've you
Starting point is 00:12:57 know definitely you look like differences has the complete glow up fraternal is wait hold on can you just tell can you just say what your instagram name is so or your snapchat is so people listening can just follow along. Everything is Amina Imani. A-M-I-N-A-H-I-M-A-N-I. Look at her spelling. That's great. Listen, if you look her up
Starting point is 00:13:16 on Facebook, her and her sister have... I keep the same alias. There's nothing different. Okay, boom. She ain't got nothing to hide. She talking to the fans. Who are you talking to?
Starting point is 00:13:26 Are you talking to an ex? Ain't nothing changed. Call a crib, same number, same hood. It's all good. And your dick was whack. Come see me, Darren. darren she she does better than a darren a stefan i don't know that sounds a little too
Starting point is 00:13:46 fancy that sounds like a like a nerdy steve urkel without his glasses so growing up in atlanta and you said you had to share all the time so like how did you end up in new york you know the city's expensive right i came here to do comedy oh and you're like i graduated i went to howard university shameless bug ate you you know okay and i was in dc were you in one of those oh my god yeah did you pledge we'd be doing the sound and the symbol i'd be crib walking no y'all are terrible i fully do not support any of their views and opinions right now if you would have pledged what which sorority would you have um i actually was a prospect for
Starting point is 00:14:29 delta okay yeah you seem like a delta so they put you on hold well no i'm not gonna lie i don't know if y'all know the background history but howard university is like we're all alpha like most of the chapters started right right so they were very serious and so the competition was extremely steep and you're kind of you're like you don't take things too serious and i barely believed in myself then so it was just like listen i don't even know what i want to do in life i gotta go Should I be here blushing? I just want to graduate and go. It's very, very competitive
Starting point is 00:15:02 and they're very tough. How were the men at Howard? I feel like strong black men. Our population was like 10 to 1. 10 women to 1 dude? Just like how the men act in New York where they feel like they're creme de la creme and you have to approach them.
Starting point is 00:15:17 That's how it was. That's all dudes. There's niggas in Wisconsin thinking they like fucking Will Smith. It's like, dude, you just got all your toes. That's it. Like you're not better than anybody Most of the guys I date, I only dated one guy
Starting point is 00:15:30 The whole four years on that campus Everybody else was like people I met Outside, like because I worked, I had internships And even like I dated a dude in Atlanta While I was in D.C. You worked internships, so you were making money, right? Interns normally don't get paid I started, my first job was when I was 15 years old
Starting point is 00:15:48 What job was that? I was a lifeguard So you're swimming, okay Yeah, that's how I went to school for free, I told y'all You went on a swimming scholarship? I did not know that. I did not know that. I didn't even know Howard had a swim team.
Starting point is 00:16:00 I was going to the Olympics, and now they see black girls in the Olympics. It's kind of like, oh. And they're winning awards. You should have did what you're supposed to do. That's their winning awards. Wow, Lena. So you started your adult life correctly. No student loans.
Starting point is 00:16:12 No student loans. So what bills you got now? I mean, well, I have a whole two-year-old, so life has changed. But no, I mean, that's what I'm telling you. i live very frugal and we can get into it yeah let's talk about it like so how do you save money apartment hunting in new york well first of all when i first moved to new york i was staying with family and i applied to every lottery that i saw online what kind of lotteries the affordable housing lotteries affordable housing um lotteries so they would have them
Starting point is 00:16:44 listed um in the newspapers but now since it's 2017 they're all like online listed yeah just Craigslist too Yeah you can just Apply that way So I was actually Fortunate enough What's the income That you have to have
Starting point is 00:16:56 It depends on the building It's a different They have middle income Lotteries They have low income Lotteries I've actually been Rejected because I made
Starting point is 00:17:03 $170 over The amount Yeah they're very Specific You can't make $2 over What the minimum is At one point
Starting point is 00:17:11 He deposited over $50 in my account I had to explain to them But luckily The time that I was selected I was Half of the year
Starting point is 00:17:19 I was unemployed and the other half I was employed. So I just kind of blamed all of the money that I was getting on family donations and they were assisting me. They were like, wow. I was like, have you ever been to church and the collection plate? Yeah, that's what my family was doing for me.
Starting point is 00:17:36 They put my rent on the prayer list. So that's actually how I do, that's the main reason why I do survive in New York. Did you get a lottery? Yes, I do. So I have affordable housing. oh so rent for you is less than a thousand yeah rent for me is less than about that's beautiful
Starting point is 00:17:56 less than 800 less so you so you paying so you paying 40 40 wait how many rooms do you have it's a studio it's a studio okay that's the only you know so i'm not gonna be there forever but it is it's a great your bathroom is in your kitchen well no it's a it's a nice space like honestly this is the the space of this well they don't know but it's like 500 foot square well right now right now we're in the penthouse we're in the penthouse in midtown city didn't even catch it because that's how she says it too so we're in the penthouse right we're in the penthouse right now in midtown um so everybody get on that affordable housing listen my my roommate in la that when i lived out there
Starting point is 00:18:47 he's from harlem right so i came to visit his mother for brunch or something a couple years ago and we're in this beautiful like new building beautiful apartment like a two bedroom two and a half bath i was like this is gorgeous she was like oh i bought this place for thirteen thousand dollars in 2000 and i was like thirteen thousand dollars she was like yeah this was one of the first mixed income housing buildings in new york city all of those kind of programs if you just do your due diligence and watch. You got to do research and then you got to like. I know my friend, he was on 96 in Amsterdam. Their rent is like $800 for a two
Starting point is 00:19:20 bed room. Okay, so. Yeah. But Amina, how much is your rent? I'm not going to double that information. She don't need to, don't. I feel like that's like asking somebody how much they make in a check. Well, no, honestly, sometimes I'll tell, like, it depends how I feel that day. She don't want to say it on the podcast. She don't want to publicize it on the unofficial ad first. Well, you've been shopping today, so.
Starting point is 00:19:37 You did buy a new coat and some boots. Yeah, we saw your bag over there, so. And I would have put that towards the rent that I could have been potentially paying. So you don't have her priorities in order. So walk us through your expenses. What is it like being the mother of a two-year-old in New York City? Well, before I get to even being a mom, I just want to let y'all know I live very, very frugal.
Starting point is 00:20:00 So, like, right now I have Cricket Wireless. Oh, my goodness. My cell phone. Please don't plug Cricket on here. Well, okay. For real. I'm going to say a cell phone service that's not popular. and everyone uses them.
Starting point is 00:20:11 Cricket is popping in the hood. It really is. So why didn't you go with Metro PCS? Well, honestly, someone told me that Cricket was the same as AT&T. That's how bad AT&T is. They're like a little sister company to them.
Starting point is 00:20:30 Sister company? You mean that cousin that we never talk to company. They have like the same cell towers or something like that. No. I cannot complain about my friends. What kind of phone do you have?
Starting point is 00:20:40 You have a Sidekick? What kind of phone do you have? I have a 6 Plus iPhone. Oh, okay. Does it cut out in and out when you're having a conversation? See, that's the misconception, but I actually have a lot of my friends who have been switching over to non-popular cell phones. Okay, so now what is your phone bill a month?
Starting point is 00:20:57 That's what I'm saying. $60 flat. Okay, see, I have Verizon. Okay. Okay, I have unlimited data. Okay, I have five gigs of data. And it rolls over Are we really doing a debate on fucking
Starting point is 00:21:11 But my bill is Fifty dollars a month You're in a family plan though No I'm not That family plan ended a year ago This is me by myself You just paid fifty dollars that's it It's like fifty five
Starting point is 00:21:25 It's sixty dollars after tax But you pay sixty for cricket Yeah I just pay sixty flat But that's the thing because when I was going with Sprint it was you can't do none of these name brands when i went with um even when i tried to go with verizon they yo my phone bill is like 200 mine is a mine is a just one gig mine is a is a pay as you go i just switched to last month see well see that's still as you go it's like a prepaid situation oh it is yeah then a contract cell phone so yeah i do that yes i get i have more
Starting point is 00:21:58 data and i'm spending less money than when i was like doing so you just gotta look at little things like that like your cell phone try to you know okay so where else do you save money what kind of metro card do you walk a lot because i feel like you'll be ubering so i don't feel like you'll be saving a ton of do you juneau or lift different now but before there were no ubers okay and i only did my unlimited metro card okay yeah you have to do unlimited if you're catching the metro every day more than twice like down and back you have to get you have to just gonna be more well because a swipe is like 275 you do that twice every day for every for 30 days you're not saving any money you might as well just get the unlimited okay so i have wi-fi with um cricket
Starting point is 00:22:40 yeah no i don't oh i'll say with cricket no i have it with time warner and it's 40 a month and that's it before when i first started it was 20 a month and i wrote the 20 for like two three years because i was like listen we're not gonna use this podcast to plug motherfucking cricket or Verizon or your plans because we not doing that. Okay, well, I'm being specific. I don't have to be, but I'll let you guys know
Starting point is 00:23:02 that those are ways that you could minimize your expenses for the month. Okay, what else? Are you clipping coupons regularly? I do not clip coupons, but I do shop at, well, I don't want to plug.
Starting point is 00:23:12 I shop at a wholesale store. What's the store called? Costco. Oh, you a member? Yeah, well, no. See, that's another way that you could become Google. She uses her sister's membership.
Starting point is 00:23:22 Exactly. It's a family membership. absolutely how did you know because you went to work as your sister for a year so i assumed you not going as yourself what is the costco membership cost um so for the year i believe it's like 65 dollars oh so everybody in the family just chips in five dollars that's what i'm saying sydney you want to go have actually you can do that with friends so even if you don't want to do it like the illegal way of just using someone else's card you can't come together and i mean technically that's not illegal costco i mean it's not illegal but i'm just saying if you want to be
Starting point is 00:23:54 honest, I guess. Wait, but where the hell is Costco? I don't have a car. I can't be carrying giant stuff. There's one on 125th Street. Nope, not going there. So you might want to consider maybe BJ's. I'm not sure what's in Brooklyn. Oh, I don't know what's in... That's why I said wholesale, because it's more than just Costco. Yeah, my mom shops at BJ's.
Starting point is 00:24:09 Let's think about this. Sydney, who's going to get us to and from Costco? Let's carry that big ass stuff. I know Costco delivers now. And that's another way I'm frugal. Sometimes I shop online to get free delivery, so they eliminate travel costs and time costs okay i like that that's cute i didn't even know any of this about
Starting point is 00:24:29 you this is really impressive i'm like where do you where do you buy your clothes yeah now are you somebody who like you only be thrifting well i have the same shirt as you so this is rainbow this is no the the bodysuit no no no you talk about the bodysuit yeah but that's that's um h&m logo that's logo what is it oh no that's Banana Republic this is rainbow I definitely have this let's go through Amina's
Starting point is 00:24:56 actually this is rainbow you know because they were closing this was five dollars they shut down the store over by where I live so it's five dollars by my house right now and that store is still open you thought you were going to sale you know what it might have been $3.99 seriously I just don't remember she might be lying
Starting point is 00:25:12 you know what she might could be lying Amina you seem like you'd be lying i shop no i shop at the goodwill i shop at anywhere i shop at yeah i like how do you do housing works no i never heard of housing work oh but i have been a beacon beacon let me not say this on the thing because i want people to shop but i anyway so needless to say i go thrifting but also i do go to stores that are like name brand or whatever by name brand you mean rainbow and strawberry because those are two names that i feel like you know well get the sales rank there's always so you go to old navy and you're in the sales rack listen only if you sell rock be like
Starting point is 00:25:48 legit a whole you never know what you can find and then also it's some stuff online that you well you have a son so you like you have to the stuff that you even though you want to stunt and go out and you have shows and you'll be wearing leather skirts and stuff but like yeah you got to be practical so but even beforehand honestly and that's what i like the first thing i did actually when i had my child was google broke mom nyc wow is that a website i took it to another level with me let me google that and see what pops up my son but that's because that's the type of person i am i did not know any of this about you i mean honestly his crib was free from where you found it on the street there are programs in the city when you are below a certain
Starting point is 00:26:29 income that are i mean how much was you making were you making one year 10 000 a year one year no lie my annual income was like six thousand dollars but that's because i was working part time and i was pursuing comedy i was pursuing comedy full time see when you say pursuing that means you're just getting nothing no money she was doing mics you were doing all bar shows y'all know i mean well y'all kind of like on a level your income y'all get paid hold on hold on hold on hold on but you know how it is when you're trying to do comedy like sometimes not not when i have a son you made six thousand dollars while you had a son this is the thing i stayed home i did not want to work i wanted to stay home with my son so i had to make those sacrifices yo
Starting point is 00:27:10 me living white women lives just like not going to work you had a kid i stayed home for 18 months your rent legit legit must be three dollars a month because how did you make that money and you wasn't afraid to be on the street but also people talk about this you have to have more than one income so even though i was only working part-time i did other jobs too so you were selling newports at one point i was i watched pets um i actually you said watch or watch yeah i was like a cat sitter okay yeah do cats need babysitting yes they do otherwise you'll come home and your cats will shit all over your bed sydney talk about it speak on it what and then after that happened what happened the cat then peed on the couch twice yo and you had to do
Starting point is 00:27:56 are cooking those cats right now. We're doing a nice catsuit. She's right, guys. Just so no animal cruelty. We're doing chicken catsuit. PETA ain't listening. If Cam'ron fans are listening, PETA ain't listening. That's crazy. No, and then also I
Starting point is 00:28:12 started doing surveys. So you do focus groups as well. You were working for Census? No, I didn't work for Census, but there actually was an app. I don't want to, I mean. Yeah, don't say it. Don't say it. We gonna talk about it later.
Starting point is 00:28:26 Well, anyway, it's a few apps that you have online that you could... I was literally taking pictures of the front of restaurants and menus, and I would get $5 each gig for doing it. Wait, what gig is that? And in one week, I would get like $125. Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. What gig? What?
Starting point is 00:28:42 This is all I'm saying. You just gotta do your research. I mean, what is that called? There's several ways. It's called GigWalk. G-I-G-W-A-L-K. I'm gonna write that down. W-A-L-K.
Starting point is 00:28:50 I'm putting that in my phone. You just dropping gems right now. that was another way so i would also you do hair and i do hair so i wasn't just like sitting around i would find other things to like and i babysat too this is beautiful so there are ways to create it's not income that's gonna have you balling but it's gonna sustain listen i will take that hundred dollars a week for taking pictures of terrible stores that's all i'm saying that's what i did okay i got it was doable and um and then also i unplug everything so like right now at my house so the heat not on plugged up no the only thing that's plugged up is the fridge because
Starting point is 00:29:24 you know you don't want to unplug your fridge and then your your stove you can't but if i was to travel say if i was to go away for over a week you're unplugging your fridge not bitch you how do you even unplug the stove where is the stove it's ridiculous but if my electricity bill every month is below 30 my electricity is included in my rent so you don't know oh you know what no No, that's not true. My roommate pay the electricity because she leave all the lights on. So she keep the lights on all day. So no, and that's the thing.
Starting point is 00:29:53 It's those little things. Like the TV, everything is unplugged right now. I keep it unplugged until when I get home, I plug it up. And if I'm using it- Wait, where is the plug-in for the stove? Yeah. You got to move it away from- It's behind the stove.
Starting point is 00:30:04 You got to move it away from the wall to unplug it? It's right behind the stove. You don't sweep behind your stove. Okay, so behind your stove is never- No, those are appliances all the time. I mean, behind your stove is not dusty at all. There's not one dust because you're always constantly going behind it. yo my stove don't move first of all you laugh at this but that's why i live the life i live
Starting point is 00:30:24 and i'm happy you're happy i'm not i'm happy that i don't have to move a stove every week it's a gas stove i feel like if i move it okay see that's different and it makes a difference so okay here's the scenario so you got you got a man y'all hooking up right the night before you get up in the morning you gotta get up to push the stove back and plug the stove back to make him a cheese omelet i said when there's a long period of time that i'm not home i will unplug it but on the day-to-day i'm clearly using it all the time i don't even own a microwave can we talk about can we talk about what's in your refrigerator yeah do you seem like somebody who's buying generic non-name brand groceries
Starting point is 00:31:14 well this is the thing i actually eat very clean at home so i don't buy i don't buy canned food i don't have frozen food no everything is fresh so i get vegetables i go to like trader joe's to get okay trader joe's is a good place yeah that's a good store and then um and they always have like the what is it the uh what do they call it when the grocery granola oh the circular yeah the Circular, and then you can find out what fruits and vegetables are on sale for men. Yeah, yeah, yeah, but I'm talking about like chips and cereal. I feel like you don't buy Cheerios, you buy like... I don't buy processed foods.
Starting point is 00:31:43 Circle-o's. So your son is not living the kid life? He's eating apple slices. My son enjoys butternut squash. Kale is one of his favorites. That's beautiful. He loves curry chickpeas. I cook very clean at home.
Starting point is 00:31:57 Curry chickpeas. Yes. That's beautiful. I like that. Yeah, he loves lentils. He eats... Lentils. Your son
Starting point is 00:32:04 He is two years Why is he eating lentils Like he's a foreigner Your son sounds like An 82 year old Yeah What's going on Like he got
Starting point is 00:32:12 Depends His diapers Are really depends I just make sure All the food that we eat Is healthy As fresh as possible And as clean
Starting point is 00:32:18 If we do eat something That is not Of like The healthiest It's like when we go out And we treat ourselves I mean Do you steal
Starting point is 00:32:26 That is That's a real ass question I mean Where When's the last time you took something when someone wasn't looking? Ready, go. Do you go to people's homes and take their plates
Starting point is 00:32:41 and their utensils? I do not steal. But for real, if you do want to buy stuff, make sure you buy stuff online. I know a lot of people like to go to Ikea sometimes. What if you want to steal, though? I do not steal, Cindy. Nothing.
Starting point is 00:32:54 Like, you don't go to Sephora and just take an eyeliner. You don't do samples at Sephora. Cindy, you be stealing from Sephora? All them points you got. No, I don't steal from people. I tried one time. But you can just find someone with a discount. I know somebody who was getting 60% off at Mac.
Starting point is 00:33:10 60% off? 60%. I feel like Mac himself don't even get 60% off. No. Yep. I mean, you are just on it. But that's the thing, too. So even when you do streaming online, that's all your network right there.
Starting point is 00:33:24 Every online application that I have that I stream on my computer is from someone else. Yes, me too, girl. i got somebody netflix somebody hbo go somebody's hulu infinity let me tell you and i don't miss a beat okay well actually you know what my computer when i was home for the holidays locked me out of all those things i don't know none of those passwords well i gotta give you the hulu back like somebody please did you have my netflix i had andrew's netflix i'll take your netflix he's not responding to my text messages no more i'm like yo andrew what's the netflix and he legit radio silent i'll give you my netflix and i had and i was using somebody else's hulu i think i
Starting point is 00:34:02 could get that back no yes i need the hulu because i can't i'm the one who gave you the hulu the first yes you were and adrian was like uh don't save the hulu and why are you saying this on the podcast like she don't be listening to these episodes i know she be listening now hey babe i love you i like your hair take your nosy ass to bed girl so here's what i have to ask you wait wait hold on i wanted to know about her social life though well i was gonna ask her about like taking her son out like how do you treat yourself like you said you go out like how do you treat him like do you guys do like free bronx zoo day or free museum day at the keep with the kids at one point we had a family card and it was a membership to
Starting point is 00:34:44 like over 160 attractions in new york that we can go to for free is that the new york city identification card do you have one of those those are one of the pluses i didn't get i didn't have to get one of those but i might have to get one now but before i told you like i looked up the resources and programs so we had a car for free so we went to everything yeah we went to the botanical garden saw the train show that's beautiful uh central park zoo okay um so we've done a lot of things but they also have free programs at libraries too like uh reading time oh for the kids yeah yeah yeah they've had like uh like late night slumber things for kids too Oh, I don't want my kids
Starting point is 00:35:20 sleeping in no dusty library. And then you text them for free. Where? And then if you don't, like, membership, sometimes, look at the place you go to
Starting point is 00:35:27 for memberships. They might offer a discount based on your financial situation. So, always ask for things like that. They're not going to publicize it.
Starting point is 00:35:36 No. But, like, my membership was half off for the whole year because I was just like, look, this is what I'm doing. Well, the way that I do it is, like, if I go to the museum and it be like,
Starting point is 00:35:44 suggested donation, $23. I'd be like, here's 23 cents and then they look at me funny at moma or the museum of natural history and i'd be like it's a suggested donation yeah i'm gonna give you a dollar like but it's a lot of good like you can catch a lot of deals like i'm all about going online and looking up deals like i remember me and my friends took like a little boat ride it was like ten dollars a little boat ride to where staten island was like one of those party boats no but i have been on the staten island
Starting point is 00:36:11 ferry several times for free why i've never touched the staten island ferry i've never even Statue of Liberty. I've never even touched a nigga from Staten Island. I don't like trash island. No! All her views and opinions about Staten Island. Marie just don't want to live. Marie is always talking reckless on here.
Starting point is 00:36:31 I'm pretty sure Staten Island doesn't have Wi-Fi. Honestly, I thought Staten Island was like that and then I went there and it was actually a really cool... I pride myself in being somebody who's never set foot on the ferry. Listen, I was supposed to go out with this dude. We were supposed to meet up and he was like yo i just missed my boat so i'm running late and i was like what boat is he
Starting point is 00:36:49 talking about i dropped somebody off i dropped somebody off and i saw them go to the fair and it was like oh it's really not that bad i actually i was like it was kind of like he was getting deported that's how it looked i was like bye to see all the other water mobile girl you could have some like hood you know where you struggle ass dude named davante take you on some you know else you can see all the night boats from the bay in brooklyn you can see the skyline exactly but still no i've been um i've been just skiing in the hudson before so that's how i know you're really doing bad because why would you just ski in the hudson that dirty ass water you know how many dead bodies are under there i'm surprised you're not a mutant it was a different look to
Starting point is 00:37:34 the city it was a different look because dirt was flying in your eyes at the time i could not book a trip to like a tropical island so i was like well let's just let me just while you're talking about trips you're so frugal but you've been on so many trips let's talk about your trip amina let's talk about where you you've traveled or bought tickets to for the last six months on a budget you travel on a budget yes and you go to like very nice places well see this is the thing people think that a lot of things are unattainable but it's not my flight literally round trip to bermuda was 212 how yes how so my this is the plug on my sister she follows like a travel blogger who always posts constantly like cheap flights because like my friend called a flight to dubai
Starting point is 00:38:19 for 200 round trip yeah but your friend also now lives in dubai your friend is now trapped there she can't you can go on websites sometimes sometimes there are glitches um on yeah i've been hearing about that yeah and then they have to honor the price yeah but then people catch a cheap flight. Like, my flight round trip to South Africa, even though the trip was unsuccessful, it was $450 round trip. Can you tell us why
Starting point is 00:38:45 it was unsuccessful for the listeners? I mean, I was held up at gunpoint at the hotel in my lobby. Say that one more time. I was held up at gunpoint. Oh, man. By the people working in the lobby? No, actually, it was some goons, you know? Some people that had guns. African goons?
Starting point is 00:39:01 I think we were set up. We were set up. I think we were set up by our Uber driver. when that happened what were you thinking like what was going through your head so unreal and i really just wanted to see if that gun was real i wasn't really convinced so i couldn't take the change you're so you're so harlem right now i want to know if it's real yeah i just wanted to see him like just shoot could you you know what you you just like it here and then i get scared but i it was hard to listen this is what you should have done you should have been like listen my father has a special set of skills okay you know liam neeson that's my dad he will find you
Starting point is 00:39:34 and he will kill you at all you should have let was trying to say stuff he was like say one more thing i'm gonna shoot you it was over did she say one more thing she should have said one more thing did you say one more thing i think once you hear that you kind of just shut up no i feel like i would be like no no because we in another country we wasn't trying to like take chances that's why i just gave him all my stuff it wasn't even so how much stuff did you have like like did you have any valuable like luggage like you know i i've never like next trip i'm not taking anything valuable no like this trip i was like i took all my best stuff so what was your best i'm sorry so your best charlotte ruse so all your white shorts all
Starting point is 00:40:13 your full price rainbow body suits but no even like i do you know what a clarisonic is to clean oh you i had that i had my candle in my bag like because you thought you was gonna read in south i was i read you're gonna be on the safari you're gonna write a magazine you know a magazine is cheaper than a kindle my mindset was just i didn't know what i wanted to do so i wanted to have options so i just put everything in my bag like i put all literally i took all my jewelry tossed it in my bag when you say jewelry is it costume jewelry no i even had my pandora bracelet and then i had a special you never heard of a pandora no sydney don't know nothing about nice-ish hood things it's like silver it's like sterling silver um but i guess high end i guess
Starting point is 00:40:56 but you can like build like a whole bunch of it's a charm bracelet yeah and it's kind of like tiffany and co yeah but i think it's pandora maybe one step yeah but each charm is like 40 50 60 one of my charms came from another country and that was 150 what was the charm um where did they go i think they went to wait he took your bracelet off your wrist or it was in your bag it was in my bag i put everything yeah yo i know not to travel with my good jewelry did you have nice shoes yeah i had nice shoes i even my sterling when you say nice shoes what's a nice shoe for you like an aldo or like a top shop exactly it wouldn't be anything steve manning is a nice shoe for me oh you're not even a steven just steve manning
Starting point is 00:41:39 yo sydney is disrespectful as hell yeah i guess that's where my frugal lifestyle come in i'm about to get like... That's not where my life is right now. Why would I get... Yeah, I mean, it's like I'm throwing a Tom Ford shoe to go to... Yeah, for what? Sydney... We're not there yet. Sydney... I have an East Saint Laurent shoe. I've never seen you in it. First of all,
Starting point is 00:42:02 because it's open toe and you know how I feel about my toes. But most high-end shoes, like my cousin got a lot of... And she can't... She can barely walk in New York with them. They're not comfortable. They're not for New York. They look good. Well, you gotta know where you live. And then is your life getting in and out of a back backseat of a car that's what sydney's like my life oh well then well go ahead with your
Starting point is 00:42:20 hands up i'll catch the metro okay didn't wait didn't i just put you in an uber you did she did i felt so good as bmw came to pick me up she almost died anytime but then on the return it was kind of like what kind of car it was a it was a hyundai sonata i was like oh this is what i'm used to i can't do this so what are do you have any tips for like people trying to save money in the city of new york how how we saving money always definitely go on and look for uh either coupon codes go on those sites that are giving discounts for services you know i'm not trying to plug anything yeah you're gonna tell us off site yeah but but i'm always even when it comes to dates they have all these type of
Starting point is 00:43:05 activities you can do for like half on okay so when people ask you to go out on dates you'd be like let me plan it because you want to go judge or you just assume they don't pay we are but if we're not there then you either plan and spend your money so what's a good day for you spending my money then i'm looking for like painting deals you know like a painting sip a painting sip it's fun those are fun it's fun and it's inexpensive i did one it was ten dollars what's your paint game look like oh i have several paintings around my apartment is it I actually painted my apartment. That's another frugal tip that I did.
Starting point is 00:43:38 But you got the paint from Home Depot? I bought the paint from Home Depot, but I got somebody to quote me how much it would be to paint the whole apartment. He was like, $500. I was like, oh. You were like, I only have four walls. I put on some overalls, okay?
Starting point is 00:43:51 And I got some paper towel and newspaper. Did you put the paint tape down? I did get the paint tape, but use newspaper. Don't buy that expensive sheet paper that they have at Home Depot. Excuse me. Sorry. I ain't trying to turn nobody for me. Home Depot is going to be up.
Starting point is 00:44:06 Get those free newspapers that they have. They keep begging you to get when you get on the train. Oh, you mean the time out New York and lay them around your apartment and paint your, I painted the entire apartment. Yeah. But how does it look though? Awesome. Did you move the stove and paint behind the stove?
Starting point is 00:44:23 I mean, uh, I have since, uh, cuisine, you know, you're on the train and they like start giving out food. Do you ever take that food? No, I don't do that. But definitely another way to save money in New York is food prep. Every Sunday, I usually try to take out time to food prep. To cook for the week. Yes, cook for the week.
Starting point is 00:44:40 Right. Or at least two, because my food is usually fresh, so it's usually until Wednesday. But I'll cut up the season. I'll cut up the onions, the scallions. I do that in advance, put them in little sandwich bags. So when it comes time to cook in the middle of the week. You just throw it in there. Boom, boom, we good.
Starting point is 00:44:54 We ready to go. Amina, I'm so blown away, because you are so put together, and you got it together. but then you sound like you're like you have a thing but then you'll be in a diner ordering moscato and yellowtail chardonnay is like you're not going to label me and i tell people i enjoy the simpler things in life okay don't be trying to label me in a box well let's tell the story so the people listening can decide if they want to label you or not we went to a diner the other the day did you order food and and the the server comes over with a glass of white wine and we were all like anybody order that and amina was like
Starting point is 00:45:34 we were like amina only you would come to a diner and order a glass of moscato nobody does that first of all it was pinot grigio it don't matter what it was we're having a glass of wine everything a glass of diner wine it's first of all it's watered down wine they literally pour water it was basically the trader joe's wine it still had the stems in it but don't don't sleep on trader joe's wine the 2.99 one yeah the two buck chuck i know what you know you know there was a story there was an expose about that wine when they when they gather the grapes they throw the stems the seeds the leaves the roots of the plant in the little thing that's what you're I'm a google I'm a send it to you
Starting point is 00:46:20 I'm a send it to you so you can be like that's why it's two dollars one day I went and grabbed a couple of bottles and gave them to my co-workers they were like oh thank you you getting them $2.99 wine and you splurging huh and Amina you know what happened after that you had extra money that's why your co-workers got your ass fired
Starting point is 00:46:36 because they were like they could taste the stem and they were like we gotta get this bitch fired she gotta go a ladybug in my glass oh that's not why you got fired why did you get fired it was actually a department layoff so it wasn't just me trust me there's some hoes from the department that didn't get laid off and they're like i told them i mean it's not giving us a cheap ass line so you're going you have a trip coming up you're going to
Starting point is 00:47:00 bermuda yes i am now how do you save money overseas airbnb well i mean i don't know i just want to say i got something specific no airbnb i i did that we went we went to paris and we airbnb'd because my mom was like i want to be able to cook in my own kitchen type of people who go and like we'll go overseas and we'll cook our own food that's how my mom is you know a lot of people be like oh we want to eat out and experience that all and it's just like well you could do that once or twice yeah but you don't have to do that every night that you're there i mean let me tell you if somebody robbed me and took literally all the good stuff i would not be going out for the whole year first of all i wouldn't even have any clothes to wear because i wear my summertime clothes
Starting point is 00:47:40 in the wintertime as well because i'll be throwing on a midriff with another midriff and i'm like if you layer the midriffs bitch i'm warm that's almost a full shirt see that's frugal look at all my good clothes and my shoes oh man we live in new york i feel like something tragic happens to me every day here not every day but often enough to where when something like that happens you can't let it stop you from enjoying the rest listen if i was held up at gunpoint in south africa i would never say the word africa again i would never go south ever i would only be going east or west or north you can get robbed right here in new york and i never have let me go ahead and knock on wood amina sound like she's setting up some uh robberies yeah
Starting point is 00:48:22 amina some ocean 11s i told you amina it sounds like it's just you yeah you be leaving your doors wide open what you need to do is move your stove in front of your door so can't nobody get in That's what you need. Unplug it and drag it to the door. Let me tell you, Amina, crazy stuff has happened to me, but not Rob. I literally have fallen in front of my apartment, laid there for about a good 20 minutes, my bag all open. People literally just walked over me and they're like, the homeless chicks are getting cute in this neighborhood. That's all.
Starting point is 00:48:56 That is all. Robbing or raping, not happening. Yeah, well, just consider yourself black. lucky yeah no i went to uh mexico a couple years ago and my brother had just given me this really beautiful ring and i bought the ring to mexico because i was like wait oops oops our white woman whisperer he brought you he bought me a really beautiful ring he always gets me really good jewelry for christmas anyway i'd be like oh my god he went to jared anyway so i had this ring and we all got drunk at some club and we were with a bunch of terrible people and they're like
Starting point is 00:49:27 we should go uh skinny dipping you know everybody was it was white and i was like my guys my non swimming ass i'm taking all of my stuff off everyone's taking their clothes off the people from the hotel come out and they're like y'all can't be here so everyone's like grabbing their stuff to like get up and run so i get to the room my ring is gone you're butt naked in no ring no i had panties on and a bra because you know my body's a temple you can't just let these beige devil's gaze on this. He's out of control.
Starting point is 00:50:00 And your body was banging too. I had the habs out but the ring was gone. And now like if and when I travel I'm not bringing nothing that I wear
Starting point is 00:50:11 regularly. I'm bringing Claire's jewelry. Just keep it simple. I don't even have jewelry. I don't even wear any of that. Like that's not my thing.
Starting point is 00:50:19 That's how I stay frugal. I love jewelry. I see you have a necklace on, Amina. What is this symbol on your necklace? This is the Ankh, and actually it does mean fertility. Why do you say does mean? It's a symbol of life. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:50:31 I'm surprised y'all never seen it. I've seen it. I just don't know what it means. It looks like a stick figure. I've seen it, like Higher Learning and those movies, Do the Right Thing. I feel like Bilal wears one of those. It's a symbol. It's very Spike Lee-ish, so I love it.
Starting point is 00:50:45 Okay. Okay. She said, okay. Amina, do you have any tattoos? I do. I have a few. Did you pay for those? I did pay for these tattoos.
Starting point is 00:50:52 On Groupon. So it's not all the way shaded in? Was it a discount tattoo? No, so on my back, I have the G in Yame. It's an Indica symbol. It means fear God. And then on my foot, I have two dolphins connected. And that's you and your sister being gay together?
Starting point is 00:51:06 That doesn't even go with what was on your back, but I see it. Two dolphins kissing. Those don't coincide. There's the juxtaposition. In my defense, these both happened before I was even 20. I feel you. It doesn't matter. i have lots of diner wine huh listen i have one tattoo on my body and i got it because my friend
Starting point is 00:51:29 paid for it that's the only reason i have this tattoo i've seen it too and i'll be forgetting that it's there it's when i saw it i was like that doesn't look like marie at all thank you but i got it because my friend was like we should get some tattoos i was like i don't really know she was like i'll pay i was like all right okay so i'm looking through the book let me get my money together so we can get tattoos do you have a tattoo no i want to get any of that i want to get we should go get some tattoos yeah i don't put anything on my body unless it's plastic surgery like titties thank you i don't know like sometimes when i see women with sleeves of like tattoos i really dig that sometimes it looks good my sister be putting her little fake sleeves on and going
Starting point is 00:52:04 to the gym to work out i don't have enough muscle in my arm yet when i get the muscle up in my arm i will do that um amina we got some questions for that ass oh we want to test your expertise in just how frugal you really are. Yes, you have to put the expert glasses on. I hope you guys learned some stuff today. We learned a lot. And if you do want any follow-up questions, because I used to blog about this all the time.
Starting point is 00:52:25 Oh, you had a blog, too? You have to reach out to me. I haven't blogged this year, but I... What was your blog called? It was just on... Broke Black Mama? Don't do that. Oh.
Starting point is 00:52:32 I'm sorry. Don't do that. So, Amina, the questions are very simple. You know, you can improvise, go off the dome. We're hoping that you know what you're talking about. Yeah, I hope so, too, because I put the glasses on and everything. You look great in the glasses, actually. Honestly, truly.
Starting point is 00:52:49 Those are the 2017 expert spring sunglasses. Or no, regular glasses. We just saw those, too, right? Yes, we are. I see you put on your finest rainbow today. I see you. You're so messy. Question number one.
Starting point is 00:53:04 When a bill collector calls, what's the best excuse to get them off the phone? That's messy. I don't even do bill collectors. So you have no debt? No. I'm sorry, but this is what you should say. Wow, you have no debt? She went to school for free.
Starting point is 00:53:21 This is the thing. The bill collector calls the best excuse to get off the phone. Wow, there's a fire in my building right now. Farming. That's solid. Did you hear that, Bernie? Gotta go. This is not the best time.
Starting point is 00:53:40 please give me a call back in like 38 days. 38 days. I'm sure I've changed my identity. Is that how long it takes to get all your shit back from a fire? Yeah, that's how long it takes. 38 days? Yeah, 38 days. Good to know.
Starting point is 00:53:52 Thank you. You so smart. Oh my Lord. Question number two. Okay. What's the most expensive day to travel, and what's the best day to travel if you don't want to like deal with the expensive stuff?
Starting point is 00:54:05 The most expensive day to travel is on a Sunday. A Sunday or a Monday. If you start your trip off on a Sunday? Even leaving or coming back. Those are very too expensive days. Why? Yeah, I'm not sure. I just noticed that.
Starting point is 00:54:20 I always, like, if you travel, if you come back or leave, like, on a Thursday, a Tuesday, Wednesday, you're good. Come back. Even if you come back on a Saturday, you're better off. Really? Coming back on a Sunday or Monday or even leaving on those days are very, very expensive. Oh, I didn't know that. And that's with buses, too. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:54:38 greyhound genius. Here's a third question for you. As somebody who eats out at fancy diners and drinks Moscato, here's the question. What is 18% of a $110 check?
Starting point is 00:54:54 Woo! Woo! Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. 18% of a $110? I can make it easier for you. I can see. What's 18% of a $100 check? Okay, listen.
Starting point is 00:55:09 Okay. Amina, I feel like it's very simple. I feel like it's quite easy. $18? You're asking, so are you going to leave? You were not. The check comes to the table. Math is not my best thing.
Starting point is 00:55:23 I see. I see. But if the check comes to the table, it's $100. How much tip are you going to leave? You're leaving $18. Okay, do you ever, since you're frugal, do you ever, like, cheat the server just so you don't? Okay, good.
Starting point is 00:55:36 Only because I've been in the business of first. Yes. And so when you know that, you just, mm-mm. Who are we looking at? We looking at you. Maurice Damiel. My check has never been $100. I would be the type of person that will give the 18% and then let the waiter know what they could have did.
Starting point is 00:55:53 Oh, so you're going to workshop? You're going to grab somebody by the elbow and be like, let me talk to you. Before you give this 18%, let's just have a, is today a bad day? Is today your first day? You're going to workshop? Are you new here? next time you should do this and you should come and make sure the water is full i mean it's like you need to serve on the right and uh take away on the left listen i've seen somebody have told
Starting point is 00:56:14 me like oh you didn't bring me any water that's why i didn't give you 20 okay so that's why you gave me 10 right because i forgot to give you some more water even 18 she's just gonna also give you a tip and then i'm also gonna make suggestions and then say if the food is bad i'm gonna let you know so that could be taken off but i'm not gonna not tip you because the food is bad it has nothing to do with you that's true so but what if it's a really bad server like he got an attitude and he puts fingers in the plate when he drops the plate off like what you shouldn't even be eating at that restaurant you should get up and go we shouldn't even get the check at that point boom that's how i'm eating all my meals in 2017 his thumb was in the ramen bowl
Starting point is 00:56:50 let's go crew squad up i'm taking this drink outside um amina since you're frugal you save money um not only do you have a savings account uh what's the best place window where's the best place to save your money that's not in a bank looking to be the space where's the best place to save your money yeah that's not in a bank yeah i mean in your house but you're saying i'm like where oh you have a big like a real piggy bank i have like several piggy banks in my house but some people put their money like under the bed is that a good place sometimes i put money in like i have a little bookshelf in my closet and i just slide money you're gonna put this on a podcast i have a safe at my house i have two safe boxes you have a safe yes i have two safe box only
Starting point is 00:57:41 because you just never know out here in these streets wait wait is the safe behind the stove no it's actually above i have one above and then i have one in my chest uh well why am i telling people yeah because you like i think i'm gonna cut this out because like this is not gonna have the keys they're not gonna have the the yeah but now people are gonna come to your house looking at a bookshelf if you're not putting your money in a bank put it in a safe box in your house okay there you go where does one get a safe box you can get a safe i always shop on like amazon i get my stuff online so technically i could just take the safe and walk out your house with it yeah you could okay amina i feel like you seem like you know what you're talking about to me
Starting point is 00:58:23 yeah wait give her one more question what's another do you have another question sydney it doesn't mean we have to do it though oh here's one yeah are you ready for this i don't know y'all questions oh you gotta need some work on the question yes why i don't know because you don't think that math question that has nothing to do with being frugal yes it does it has to do with money amina said about that one okay here's one this has everything to do with being frugal what does atm stand for wow automatic teller machine yes but my bank actually reimburses me my atm fees back who you bank with west west well wells another frugal tip make sure you try to look at like credit unions federal credit unions because
Starting point is 00:59:13 they're for the people so they're not looking to gain as much profit as the bigger banks are So if you do bank, you should look at a federal credit union. Look at God. Amina, you have been fantastic. I mean, you honestly make me want to go back to school, but that's not going to happen because I owe them like 30 grand.
