You're listening to the Vox Media Podcast Network.
Anime Fighting Studios, this is between the links.
And now your host, my...
The iconic voice of Esther Lynn, welcomes you to a brand new edition of BTL.
Happy Thursday to us all.
What a week it is, ladies and gentlemen.
We are getting ready for UFC Shanghai.
We are getting ready for Mike Perry v.
is Dylan Danes and whatever that freaking card is going to be.
Bellamere just lost a mixed martial arts fight as a minus 6,000 favorite.
Lots going on spot and fight night.
Glover Tashara versus Mauritio Shogun,
who so much happening in the world of combat sports.
And joining me to answer your questions and discuss all of these things is Mr.
O'Grayr himself, the hot take kid, Mr. Contender Series himself, Jed Bishu.
Jed, how we doing, buddy?
Good. Way better than I thought I'd be today, honestly, Mike. I'm old now, and my back rejects being old.
And so I ill-advisedly played Sim golf last night, despite the fact that I'm currently trying to figure out what's wrong with my back.
And I thought today I would wake up and be dead. And no, it's actually like not that bad.
So Prince of positivity, Jed Mishu this morning.
Nice. Yeah, I played golf with my dad yesterday. And yeah, third hole. I was getting ready to hit a wed shot and the right side of my lower back started flaring up as well. I'm like, golly. I got 15 more holes of the shit. And I'm feeling all right. Yeah, just got to battle through it. Mike, let's derail the conversation immediately. I was incredibly close to getting a hole in one on the sim yesterday. So close. So close.
that like as it was rolling to the pin
I was like I was standing there
thing like how do I celebrate this
because like it's not a hole in one
but it's not not so like
how excited can you be
for a simulator hole in one I guess is the real question
because I did not have an answer
I just sort of stood there like
please don't tell me my first hole in one's going to come
on a sim and I missed the hole by half an inch
And I was like, okay, thank goodness, I didn't have to sort this out.
But it was tough.
If you, I think if you get one on the golf course, your reaction is 10 out of 10.
Yeah.
I think Sim is, I think six out of 10 is fine.
Like celebrate it, get excited.
High five.
I would have been excited because it just would have been cool to do.
But it really felt like, like standing watching it roll.
Because like, it was one of those shots.
It was a 200 yard par three, by the way.
So it was sick.
And it was like it never left the flag stick.
And I was like, oh, that's really good.
And then it took the first bounce on the green.
I was like, oh my God, this is going to go in.
And the whole time I was just like, this feels, this doesn't feel like it's a real hole in one.
But it doesn't quite like it feels better than like a Mario golf hole in one.
You know, so it's just I didn't know what to do.
Didn't know what to do.
Yeah, I think it's, like you can't contact the USGA for like a black.
Yeah.
I can't do that.
Like they're not going to get a, well,
you're not going to get a social media post from the Sim place being like,
congratulations to Jed Bishu for getting his first hole in one.
None of that's going to happen.
But yeah, you get all the other,
you get the feeling of getting one.
And I think that might be more important than,
than ever.
Maybe it boost your confidence to get one on the real golf course.
It was certainly,
it was more fun to,
because I've had a couple of near misses on hole in ones.
But like for a lot of those,
you don't know how close or how far.
far away you are because you are far away from the hole.
But like this one, I just got to see it.
I was like, oh, it's going right at it.
It's going right at it.
And that's that's kind of fun, you know?
Yeah, that is very fun.
So what is also very fun is talking to the fantastic folk over in the M.A.
Fighting community, whether on YouTube, the Twitter, the Twitch, send your questions in.
Super Chatters get to the front of the line.
First off, shout out to Scott McCraight, the Santa Claus, the giver of the

There you go.
So collect those memberships.
Yeah, what a guy.
What a guy.
Aussie Strike, gentlemen,
Josh Thompson,
Mike's favorite on takes,
mentioned that Umar is under a lot of pressure
carrying the name to win.
What is your take?
Thanks, heaps.
So,
yes,
UFC Shanghai on Saturday,
super early in the morning.
Pretty fun main card.
really look at it and the main event is a heater.
Big one at Banimate, Umar Namaga Madoff, staying busy.
He knows he's not getting a title fight.
In fact, Maraude Welch, really and Piotr Yan are getting ready to have their trilogy
fight in October.
And now Josh is saying, Umar is under a lot of pressure carrying the name to win.
So how much pressure is on Umar and Amaga Madoff heading into Saturday?
Is this a must win for him in, in order to kind of stay in the title hunt, so to speak?
it's not a must win in the fact that he's still young enough
I think he's not even 30 yet let me look at him
no he turned 30 in January
he's 30 in January he is still young enough
and high level enough
that a loss here would be a huge setback
make absolutely no mistake about that
but he can string together enough
wins
the name will give him a little bit of a boost
even though the loss would really be pretty devastating
for his career aspirations.
But he could still go on a five-fight win streak
near the top of this weight class
if he loses on Saturday and find a way.
You know, find a way to a title fight.
But as far as like truly living up to the lineage of the name,
a loss would be catastrophic for that
because then he's, you know, we'll let you lose one,
but you lose two and you lose to a guy like Song Yadong
who, I mean, I'm going to just, I guess, perennially disrespect him,
and I'm sorry, your eye favor.
Whenever you see this, you'll continue to be mad at me.
But, like, is the bifurcating line between world class and very, very good?
You know, like, he beats everybody who's not a top five fighter,
and every top five fighter he fights, he loses to you.
Like, that is just who Song Yodong is at this point.
So to lose to that is really a differentiation.
if you are umar but like it's not entirely impossible to overcome this and eventually win a belt
but to win a belt put together a sustained legacy defining run you know like that's probably out the
window so there's a ton of pressure on him like no mistake at all a ton of pressure but he's not
this is not do or die for him i guess is the way i'd phrase it yeah i don't think it's like do or die
if he loses, he's in really big trouble.
The only thing that can actually help him in this situation
if he loses is if Marab loses to Jan again,
then they can do Umar versus Marab.
And they should probably just do that fight anyways.
If Yon wins, Umar again a title shot no matter what he does on Saturday,
because they're just going to get the shot on the matter.
There's not a chance whatsoever that that's happening.
But if Marab wins and he wins, he's probably fighting Marab next.
one of the like seems likely yeah i interviewed umar he was on fire when it came to marab like just on a on a
heater so they could build that one up but if he loses man she's he's gonna need yon to win
and if he wins he's gonna need marab to win if he wants to get to the to the title fight so he's in
a very strange position right now and we'll see how it all plays out but yeah that's a big fight
I'm looking forward to it.
Speaking of,
odds that Mike and Jed are getting up to watch the Shanghai card from Danger Mouse.
100%.
I'm working it.
Yes.
So I don't believe you are because you are on location, as you can see behind you.
Yes.
But I'm not super pumped about some of this early action on this card, quite frankly.
But like, I haven't decided if I'm getting up or I'm staying up, like with a nap as opposed to like,
because the options, I'm working tomorrow until like the evening.
And so my options are either go to bed almost like directly after work
so I could get like a full eight hours to wake up and do this card.
Or I just take like a power nap around midnight for a couple hours and then wake up and do the card.
But I will be up and watching because I'm, I mean, again, I like the main card.
Honestly, there's a couple of spots on the undercard I'm into.
So I would probably, even if I weren't working,
I would probably set an alarm and wake up to watch the main card for this.
Like if I was just, you know, casually or whatever,
maybe not the full main card.
Like I could go back and watch Bilal Hassan afterwards.
Like, I don't need to see that live.
But the Sumadereji Alex Perez and up,
like I'm pretty into those final four fights.
So I'd probably set an alarm and watch those if I weren't working it.
Yeah, we, my dad,
said a 724 AMT time for Saturday.
And it's about a first guy,
not quite first guys out,
but you're out early,
finished quick.
Yeah.
From what I understand,
it's about a 30 minute golf cart ride
to get to the course.
So as we are driving to the course in the golf cart,
I'll probably have it on.
Yeah,
dude,
I played golf with my dad down here.
We drove an hour and 15 minutes in a golf cart to get there back.
Wow.
That's a long golf cart ride.
Yeah.
Yes, that was the round I beat him in.
So it was a great drive back because he was quiet.
But he killed, he clobbered me yesterday.
And he went out and shot of 76 and just.
Well, that's going to clover most people.
That's going to clover most people.
So Scott, well, pause, pause before we do this,
because this popped up in the group chat this week.
And we don't have to spend much time on it.
But since you just, there was a golf prompt.
What is the handicap?
or like roughly average score you think of a person shoots it to call them a good golfer
to call them like if i would call yourself like what's the line to be a good golfer like what's the
handicap to be a good golfer eight okay a little higher than i've just think anything in single digits
i think you qualify as a good golfer but the group chat has been um debating if that's too stringent in analysis
because, like, realistically, most people who golf are atrocious at it.
And so, like, but anyway, please continue.
I just wanted to get your take on that.
Yeah, I think if you're, like, someone who shoots 80 consistently,
I think you can say you're good.
But, you know, you can be like, yeah, I'm pretty good and feel confident in your game.
Lazy-Ber wanted to start early, but let's go back to Scott.
While I'm rooting for Bellamyer to succeed,
she looked more like the size of a flyweight to me anyway with her height and
reach of 66 inches.
After this loss, Jed, do you still see future champ in Bel-A-Mir?
She has taken quite a bit of a beating since Tuesday, losing to Alex Apodaca, had a good
first round, clearly lost the fight overall after losing the second and third.
Dana seems to think, hey, she just hasn't been in deep waters.
Alex took her there.
She'll learn a lot from this.
Do you come out of this saying, hey, this is...
This is good for her.
She's still going to be champ.
What's your reaction a couple of days later and where you view her ceiling right now?
This didn't really change any of my views on Belomir because she has four professional fights.
Like this happens.
This is prospect development.
Like she should have been a big favorite.
Don't get me wrong.
Probably nobody with four fights should be a minus 6,000 favorite over anybody.
Right?
Like that's just not really a reflection of how, like, fights.
tend to go.
And she, you know, probably comfortably won the first round.
And if she was knew more about fighting, I think she would have won this fight, right?
Like, she ran out of ideas and did not have any clue what to do when she ran out of
them because she's never run out of ideas before because she's barely fought before.
And, you know, you don't get a lot of ideas in grappling, right?
Like, the ideas are the grappling exchanges are happening.
But, like, fighting is different.
And so I, like, burying her off of this seems, like, some people are trying to do it.
That seems very overly aggressive to me.
It did raise some questions just from the view, like, viewing the performance.
She is not as good of an athlete as I thought she was.
She's not like a terrible athlete.
She's, I'd still say she's a plus athlete.
but like she just has a lot of work to do this is not just deep waters certainly that is part of it
but like she needs to learn how to box you know not just like throw with power and she apparently
doesn't have that much power she got like enough pop to to you know be in the fight but didn't look
like she had enough pop to ever hurt apadaka um yeah and yeah i do wonder about bannamway i know
she wrestled 145 pounds, 141 pounds.
I don't remember if the women's weight classes are the same or not in college,
but also collegiate wrestling,
you're not cutting as much as MMA fighters generally do.
So I think it is possible that she might want to drop weight.
She's also young,
so she might just bulk up in general and fill out more naturally at bantam weight.
It did seem like she could maybe get on a little bit better of an,
of, of, of, of, of, of, of,
program that like i don't know what she does to that extent but like this mostly just look like a 23
year old woman who has potential but is very very raw losing to somebody who had a good game plan
and from a gym that was really well prepared for what was going on here uh and yeah it's hard
it's hard to win fights it's very very difficult to win fights when you don't know what you're doing
and she does not know what she's doing yet yeah she's wrestling kennedy blades at 150 pounds
in that final X match.
Yeah, she's getting cooked because Kennedy Blades is
except and much bigger than her.
Yeah, she is an athlete and very
just she's in incredible shape.
So I don't see that going very well for Belomere.
But yeah, we'll see if she drops to 125.
I think that might be like the best bet for her.
Honestly, she's young enough where
she doesn't have to be a bantam weight right now.
But also do you want to spend the next five, six years
of your life trying to cut to fly weight when it's probably going to be a pretty difficult cut that's
i think staying at ban on weight is fine for her it's a worse weight cost again she should probably
fill out over the next couple of years a little more anyway and like just like do like a dedicated
strength and conditioning program to add a little bit more bulk um and maybe that adds a little more
power because like she i think there is there's obviously a lot of her father in her
game like watching her fights it's like oh yeah you probably were just trained by your dad
there's like a lot of like a broad ability to do things but like one of the things frank meir had
that was like genuinely super super special for him was the like he had raw horsepower in a way that
like yes most heavy weights are strong but like i don't know if you guys have ever done it i've
never done it. It's extremely difficult to actually snap somebody's arm with a kumura, much less
like Nogg's arm. Like he had that man could really are like crank things. And when she was in those
50, 50 spots in the wrestling or like in negative positions in wrestling, she did not have the,
this sort of raw horsepower I imagine she would have based on her wrestling background to just like
muscle through some of these bad spots she got put into.
Like she has,
she has insular technique, right?
Like she knows how to wrestle.
She knows how to grapple.
She doesn't quite have the like constituent parts to build like a full game out of it.
And she clearly lacked the horsepower to just be like,
oops I win anyway and just like make up for her flaws in technique and tactics with
just like pure power and athletes.
So she's going to have to fix one of those two things.
We shall see where she goes.
There's another follow-up question on that in a moment.
But let's go to Chase.
Mike, I need your insight.
I budget to go to one card per year,
and I'm holding out hope that I will get to see Tom versus gone in person.
Any movement on that fight happening prior to the end of the year.
It's tough to say.
I'll say this.
Two weeks ago, I would have said,
get ready to withdraw that money.
Today, I'm not as confident,
but I'm not ruling it out either.
So that's really all I can say about the matter right now.
Seems like MSG is where they want it to happen.
Am I as confident as I was earlier this month?
Not particularly, but not ruling it out either.
So that's really all I can say.
Sorry.
I wish I had more for you.
It just seems like they're going to have to fight this year because they don't, like, what are the,
the UCRD doesn't have enough fights to fill their pay-per-views.
Like, they're just going to have to.
So if I was a gambling man, which I am, by the way, no-bet's part coming later today.
I would bet that that card headlines MSG or that fight because, like, it's big, it's heavyweight, it's MSG.
I don't know what else is going to do it.
So that would be my guess.
I'll say if everybody is healthy and ready to go for that date,
that'll probably headline MSG.
If they're not, maybe we'll have to wait a little longer.
But, I mean, we haven't had a undisputed heavyweight title fight.
It'll be well over a year before that happens.
So hopefully we get some movement on that.
But yeah, we'll see how that all plays out.
Codan, also did you see Dana get mad at the reporter
for asking a pretty normal question about
those two contender series guys
that they should fight each other.
Yeah, I'm not loving, I don't know, man.
Dana, like we've been saying this for a while
and people have been starting to jump on board the train
for the last year, 18 months.
We've been saying for like four years
that Dana's been checked out of this whole thing.
He still goes to the press conferences
because he kind of feels like he has to.
Last year on Contender Series,
he did only two press conferences.
the first week and the last week and nothing in between.
So far he's done three of them.
I'm shocked.
I mean, not for Bellamy.
Obviously, he was going to be there and do this one, but I didn't.
I would say, I'll be stunned if he's there next week.
Honestly, I'll be stunned.
But he should probably, like, take a couple plays off.
I didn't think it was that bad of a question.
I really didn't.
But, yeah, man, he just, he loves to go out there and just dump on people.
and it was just a normal question of like two contender series guys fighting each other.
He wasn't asking about big time main event fights.
He was talking about contender series.
He wasn't even talking about actual like UFC matchups for UFC specific cards.
He was talking about a guy who won this week, possibly fighting a guy who won last week.
To call it a terrible question just seems super weird to me.
I don't know.
Whether life serves you an aim.
or an unexpected backhand.
The high-protein yogurt, Oikos Pro, is there to feed your strength
and help you turn every challenge into a smash.
Oikos Pro helps build strong muscles and support muscle recovery with high protein
and contains no added sugar.
Because true strength isn't about being able to take the hits.
It's about being able to bounce back.
Oikos Pro, feed your strength.
Visit oikos.ca for more details.
Yeah, it just read to me like he was a little frustrated or whatever and took it out on that dude.
And so that sucks.
And like the question's not great, honestly, but it's not one that you should be offended over.
It just is like, I do think it's a bad question in that like who possibly cares.
You have a limited time to ask Dana White questions about things.
Like, why can, might we see these two contender series guys face off?
like to me is a bad question,
but that's not like a question that anyone should be upset with.
It's just like, okay, whatever, man.
Good, good effort.
Yeah, you know, he gets grumpy.
Sometimes he's getting older.
As I've gotten older, Mike, I have mellowed a lot.
I used to be a much bigger asshole when I was a kid, like younger.
And like I still can be certainly.
I can still be crotchety and like all those things that all people can be.
but I have gotten way more just like whatever about many things and I'm very grateful for that.
Not everybody does that and I suspect that Dana White is not going to be the kind of man who ages in a way that it's just like,
ah, what a chill, fun guy to hang around.
Like he seems like a man who will, as he continues to age, just get a little bit angrier about things that don't really matter.
and have like shouldn't nobody should care about and so we'll probably see a little bit more of this
but you know like he also didn't got a little blown out of proportion and then like he just was like
that's a bad question and moved on he didn't harangue him like he has done some other people
in significantly worse ways for like similar or better questions but also like just remember
the reason he got like mad at all is he has no idea that dude was talking about he has no idea who
to us. Could not pick him out of a crowd of two. He saw him last week, doesn't remember at all what
happened. And, uh, like, that's almost certainly why he just had that reaction. It's like,
I don't know what you're talking about, dude, whatever. Who cares? Yeah. I don't know.
It's not great. You would, you would like the promoter of a, of a thing to be genial and welcoming
to people. And even if a bad question is asked, they can turn it into a thing. RIP Dolly
pardon, like being nice is legitimately like just a better way to go through life, but that has
never been Dana's way.
Just say, I don't know.
I'm not the matchmaker and move on instead of saying, there's always one terrible question,
and this is it.
Dana's not going to know, man.
Jose tells the story about being at a UFC press conference post-numbered event.
I don't remember what it was.
and he said that somebody on the staff
asked Jose to ask Dana a question about Kyle Dacus
and Dana like, and Dana just was like,
yeah, he did good.
And that was like, that was it.
We were just like, oh, thanks for doing that.
Yeah, just you don't need to say that.
Just be like, I don't know I'm not the matchmaker and move on.
But there you go.
Speaking of Bellamere,
and he takes on Bellamere's mother's comments
and subsequent apology on social media after her daughter's loss.
So yes, earlier this morning, Jennifer Meir, while the Boston just came out there,
released a statement, Jennifer Mia.
Jennifer Mia.
Just released a statement.
So if you guys are unaware of this, after the fight on Tuesday, Alex Apodaka was sharing a bunch of stuff.
She was obviously very happy.
And Jennifer Meir just kept going into the call.
comments and saying different shit.
One of the things, some of the stuff she said that Alex, quote, lucked out.
The judges were, quote, the judges were obviously in her favor saying her daughter, her comments on her black eyes saying from my daughter effing you up and a whole bunch of other stuff.
And then this morning, Jennifer released a statement.
Here's what she said.
Quote, I want to address the comments I made after the fight, but first I want to give you all a very deserved explanation.
After the fight, I went on to Bella's comments and saw comments telling my daughter to die and kill herself.
I reacted purely as an emotional and protective mother after seeing my daughter go through a hard loss and I let alcohol and adrenaline get the better of me.
However, that is zero excuse.
I want to sincerely apologize to Alex Apodaca, her team, the judges and the fans.
Alex fought a brilliant fight and earned that win fair and square and deserves nothing but respect.
My out-of-line comments were entirely my own and do not reflect Bella, her team, or the value she trains by.
I'm stepping back from social media to let Bella focus on her recovery, and I ask everyone to direct any frustration towards me and not my daughter.
Jed, what is your response to this whole thing, this whole saga, and the apology from this morning?
Good honor.
I don't think there's any excuse, and everyone should rightly be like,
like what you said was terrible and awful and stupid.
Um,
because like nobody alive thinks Bella won that fight.
But like I could quibble with this apology.
Um,
because it,
the,
the biggest quibble with the apology is it reads a little to PRE.
Like,
like she probably got some chat GPT help here,
you know,
to be like,
how do I apologize or whatever?
As,
as opposed to just being like,
look, because if you're reading between the lines there and what I think happened and how I
think like what her apology really is stating is like, yeah, I had a few. My daughter lost.
Social media is a bad place and I let it take me to a really bad spot. No excuses. It was really
horrible. Shouldn't have done that. I apologize profusely. That's like a good apology. Like,
for instance, Mike, I'm sure you've seen it.
The good good dudes can't figure out how to fucking apologize if you paid them a lot of money.
They don't know how to apologize.
Worst PR I've ever seen.
They are tanking.
I mean, you know, you can have a conversation about other things, but they suck at apologies.
Dean Thomas, not the world's greatest apologist, you know, like his apology was better than good goods, but not as good as this.
Right.
Like, and this is like, this is a human thing.
You can understand like a mother having a few too many and reacting really poorly.
That does not excuse it.
And she is not asking for an excuse of it.
And so like I think that this is this is good.
Like this is how broadly, like you apologize.
Like, yeah, man, I here's why, but that there's no excuse.
I screwed up point blank flat out.
And, uh, yeah.
Like, you know, I don't know.
I accept her apology because it was a good one.
Yeah.
It's okay.
It's fine.
You made a mistake.
It was a horrible look.
It's really bad.
People screw up.
That's okay.
I would, as always with something like this,
I would encourage her to perhaps,
or personal level,
be a little more introspective and figure out why her reaction was as
I don't even know the word I'm looking for but as much of it as it was
this is probably something else going on that she should address but
she made no excuses to full responsibility that's as good as you can get for an apology
I accept it
Akila Dana is still grumpier than Mike after losing J.B.
I didn't want to
lose jb but i can't i can't get mad about it and have him come back to the southics uh so i just
i was honestly trying to figure out who jb was yeah because i was like joe burroughs doesn't play for
the patriots i was like what what's going on here masters a little off topic mike and jenn do you
think mazadol will fight in the ufc again he's been saying for a while he wants to and is interested
in some fights he wants leon for example thoughts uh i don't think so because
Because I don't know why it hasn't happened.
He's been saying for like a year that he wants back in.
He's on the Deepwater show.
Like they, there's a,
there was an obvious fight to book of him versus Leon for like a year.
That's been an obvious fight to book.
And the UFC just, for whatever reason, seems to not be interested.
I can't, I don't know why.
I don't know what it is.
But that feels like such an obvious.
is low-hanging fruit, and they don't want to do it.
And it felt like if they wanted to do it, we would have already done it.
And so I think he's hanging around hoping that they'll change their mind,
but I don't know that they're going to.
So, you know, he can instead focus his energy on Mosswoodall,
bare-knuckle or whatever, Gamebred FC and their new deal with the zone.
I think he is going to fight again, but if he doesn't fight Edwards and what the hell are we doing here?
There's truly no other fight that makes sense.
Unless you run back Colby,
but even then like that doesn't even make any sense
because Colby's retired.
Yeah. Colby,
I mean, he's not really retarded, but
kind of so he can wrestle UFC guys in RAF,
which is fun.
What else do we have here?
Mike and Jed has Dana ever clash with you?
No.
I don't interact with him a ton.
But like whenever I've been to events and stuff,
you know um no he blocked me uh like over a decade ago on twitter and like if he like i would
i'll own it like i actually totally deserved it so it's fine this is before i was even really
working in media i added him about something and was you know i was being a little pissant
and he blocked me and it's totally like of the people who have blocked me totally justified uh
but like the interactions i've had minimal interactions with him i don't go to that many
events when I do it's fine yeah I don't think I've yeah I don't think I've ever like
I don't think I've ever been in the videos even the like the media says we suck or whatever
like the Dana used to do I think he's in them all the time all the stuff take it out of context
it's spectacularly funny yeah I don't think I've ever like really gotten into it with them I think
the only thing he like kind of really shut me down on was asking when I asked him about after the
Connor fight about the Porre situation and the lazy bed asking us on BTL like does UFC have a
wellness program like WWE has and I brought it up to him he said they did and I was like can't
can't he goes not going to say it here I'm like okay and then I just kind of moved on because
I wasn't going to like waste the whole press conference asking him about it but um
And then Oscar, and then Oscar, to Oscar Willis, to his credit, asked about it again.
And he still wouldn't really get into details, but saying we help these guys all the time.
So one thing Dana did bring up on Tuesday, which caught a lot of fire.
Do you guys really believe that there is a fighter who has earned $11 million that hasn't fought for a belt that came out of a contender series?
Kevin Holland said it's not him.
On, oh, contrary, he came out like three hours later and says, oh, yeah, shit, actually, it was me.
Oh, yes, I do believe that Kevin Holland has probably made a lot.
$11 million fighting for the UFC.
Yeah, I believe it, and it's good to be skeptical of anything any promoter says,
certainly Dana White does not always speak in truths,
or those truths may be different than the words that say them appear.
But, like, I just don't think he, because realistically,
that's one of those things that's not actually a brag.
If you are not, if you don't think, like, if you're not thinking,
about it, then it sounds impressive.
And then you think about it and you're like,
oh,
one non-title,
like,
fighter made $11 million.
So he's like,
I don't know.
What,
like,
Mike,
what's an equivalent NBA contract?
Because like,
uh,
I mean,
backup quarterbacks in the NFL get 10 million a year to not play.
Uh,
and that's,
quarterback but like you know what's an NBA like a 10 million dollar NBA equivalent is like
11th man like you're not quite you're not quite the last dude making a vet men but like that's
that is just not like compared to other sports that's a nothing as far as a a thing goes but it
sounds like oh that dude made 11 million dollars and then you then when you realize oh it's
Kevin Hahn, he fought 30 times.
Like, yeah, okay.
That's not.
The funniest part of that all to me, Mike, as I don't, like, when Dana was taught,
because this has happened a couple of times in a row, like Dana dropped up.
We've given $225 million.
We've paid that to contender serious people.
And then you do the math, and you're like, that's really, really not impressive.
But then he does this one, and he's talking about, like, this is an opportunity.
And the funniest part, Mike, is that it's Kevin Holland.
who they famously did not sign off Contender Series,
famously said,
I don't want him,
and then picked him up after her,
because a guy fell out of a fight.
So it's just like,
it's the funniest thing in the world like,
yeah,
look,
Contendor Series can change your life
if we don't sign you
and then bring you under a short notice fight later.
And you fight 30 times,
and one of them is a short notice fight against Hamzaa,
Chimae, which I'm assuming they paid him a million dollars.
Well, that's, I mean, that's really where a big chunk of that money is going to have
come from that.
Yeah.
And like bonuses.
It's like, it's so funny to me that his, his shining example of even if you don't want
a belt off contender series, look what can be had is a dude they didn't sign.
But that more so goes to the thing that we've been talking about is you don't become a star by
talking shit.
That helps.
You become a star by fighting all the time.
Kevin got over because he fought all the time in COVID.
He went 5 and 0 and had that big year and then was in a bunch of main events and he was
winning and losing and losing and getting taken down and couldn't wrestle and all that
stuff.
And then he stepped in and fought Hamzad and like everything changed from there.
Everything changed.
Now he's making, I bet he's making more.
And I said this back in the day when he was at post-Hams.
I was like, I bet he's making more than Marab as champion for each of his fights, which is pretty
wild considering how far he's come you're going to believe that yeah it's just one of those things
where you got to fight and and make it count and Kevin Holland has certainly done that and
probably he needs more uh you know probably should it be making more money but there you go
it's definitely Kevin there's no one else it could be that whole journey was also very fun of it's not
me guys oh wait actually I think it is me yeah actually oh yeah it is me uh chef nerd man more
Eddie's wife or Bella's mom?
Eddie's wife is more annoying.
I wouldn't say she's necessarily cringe.
Bella's mom, like that was really awful.
It's like a really, really awful thing.
And again, credit to her apology.
But like that's just gross.
Like, it's really.
Eddie's, like, Eddie's wife is just like loudly in support of him,
which is annoying.
But, you know, you want your, you want your people
to support, you know, you.
And Bella's mom wasn't like posting about how much she loved her daughter and she'll be back.
She was attacking the girl who beat her, which I guess is sort of support, but it's not good support.
Speaking of which, Holland has only fought once this year.
I mean, it's probably maybe that's why.
Because he's made 11 billion.
Yeah.
Yeah, he was supposed to fight Jacoby Smith, then got injured.
So I don't know what's going on with him.
Jacoby probably would have beat them, but you never know.
At this stage of the proceedings, yes.
Yeah.
Reactions to the landmark news of Chris Barnett signing with Power Slam.
I got to tell you, Jed, this, this just made me sad.
I was like, ugh, really?
That's when I was like, man, it's over.
Poor, poor Chris.
Every time someone signs with Power Slap, it makes me sad.
It's like, okay.
That in particular makes me sad.
That's really the end of the.
road for combat sports, right?
Like, you can do,
did,
um,
did page v ain't ever fight in any other thing after she did?
Power Slap?
I don't think so.
I don't look that up.
Did she do a Misfits boxing match?
I can't remember if that was after that or not.
Um,
and granted,
she's making all the money and good on her.
Oh yeah.
Um, like she's doing,
doing great.
So she fought L. Brooks in
24.
Her last power slap was 2025.
Okay.
So it's always possible she could compete again.
But no,
her three power slap ventures were all post the misfits boxing.
And that really, like, that's it.
When you have Luke Rockhold will be there soon.
Right now he's doing RIF.
But like after you've fought an MMA and then you try and do an influencer box,
and BKFC, the end of the line is PowerSlapp.
And so that's tough for old Huggie Bear.
It's tough.
Yeah.
I don't think Luke's doing PowerSlapp.
He doesn't need to.
Huggie Bear ain't getting the R.F call anytime soon.
Although he should.
He should.
Think of how fun that would be.
That'd be incredibly fun.
Masters MVP fights in a couple of weeks, too.
Many have said they found his UFC run under Well.
Do you think we'll see something special
and do you think MVP will stick around the UFC much longer?
Who's MVP fighting?
There's Sultan Ruudzabayev.
Throw that up again.
Let me see the full...
I think some special.
Do you think MVP will stay?
No, I do not think he's going to stay around.
And he probably won't see anything special.
Ruzabai is going to try and tackle him a bunch.
That fight's probably going to be terrible to watch.
And it just seems like,
for whatever reason MVP and the U.C don't work.
Their two visions, they don't quite align.
I expected a little bit more from the promotion around him,
even if he never made it to a title fight.
And they gave him the early run,
but basically once he lost Ian Gary,
it seems like they just threw him out.
It's like, all, whatever, dude.
And so if he's pretty close to the end of his contract or whatever,
I think whenever that's done, he will go.
join MVPFL.
It's very possible.
He's doing RIF as well.
So maybe he becomes the RF, the English,
maybe the RFF goes to London and they can bring Michael
Venom Page with them.
Sure.
Page fought BKFC against a UFC fighter.
Her last BKFC fight, yeah.
Jocel lost to Britain heart.
And to me,
one of the biggest fumbles in BKFC history
was not making Britain heart a bigger star.
truly I can't believe they fumbled that one so badly
they had something with what's her face
oh god what is her name
what's her face
oh what is her name
Taylor Starling okay I mean they're doing stuff with her too
but they had something with her too
they just yeah they
they have a hard time like getting the women over
in that organization but shout out to BKFC
they're going to Fenway Park this weekend
and that is friggin awesome.
So good on them.
And shout out to Paige Vanzant, who won chopped.
So good on her.
Did she win Dancing with the Stars?
No way.
I think she did pretty well in it.
She probably did well in it.
I don't think she won it.
The couple reached the finals and finished in second place.
Oh.
She was a runner up on Dancing with the Stars.
That's pretty good.
that's extremely good
and she won chopped
I think she won chopped right
yeah she won chopped
I'm on her wiki now
one chopped
second place in dancing
with the stars
fought MMA
BKFC
power slap
boxing
and now just
pro wrestling
she was in AEW
for a hot minute
I did not know that
okay
and now she just
makes a bunch of money
on only fans
I assume she makes
a bunch of money
on only fans
so good on her
honestly better career than 99.9% of people who competed in MMA.
She was also one of the draftees in GFL and they're,
boy, they're fighting hard to get back in there.
They're trying to convince people that something's happening.
So thoughts on PowerSlapped doing shows at colleges.
I think it's a sign that they're getting,
they're not getting the national attention they expect,
getting drunk college kids instead.
Guys.
I have no idea.
Honestly, I don't have any idea what this would mean at all.
Because none of that shit matters.
What matters, and the only thing that matters in the growth of Power Slap is not the venue, not selling tickets.
It's not even the broadcast of the events.
It's the clips that come from the knockouts.
That's literally the entire business is we are just hosting events, hoping there's knockouts,
so we can post them to social media and everybody watches them for 30.
seconds. That's it. That's it. They try to get on TV. They had one of the, I mean, you could not.
It's horrible. It's terrible. It's terrible. Watching those events is brutal. I'm told from people who have
actually gone to events that it is way more boring than like a boxing card because unless you get
10 fights and 10 knockouts, like you're just watching one move over and over again. And if all of them go to
decision you're there forever watching one move over and over again it just seems brutal but they're
this they try to be on tbs they could not have asked for a better lead in this is when a w's red
hot they're a w's doing a million people watching their program when their show started a million
people were watching and then they would end with like 200,000 and it was just brutal numbers like
so brutal and that that was it
Like this is not a television entity.
It's not even a social, like, no one even watches them live.
No matter what the numbers say, you could fudge those numbers pretty easily.
You've seen that.
It's been proven.
It's all about the social media clips.
That's it.
So they could do a show literally in the middle of the street.
It doesn't matter.
Doesn't matter.
Yeah.
I, yeah, as far as why, I don't know, maybe it just is what you said.
There's like, I don't know, we'll get drunk college kids.
Maybe they'll tune in.
I got nothing.
I have spent my, since it's inception, I've spent most of my combat sports media career,
just not caring about it.
I think it's probably bad.
And if we voted on it, I would vote to not allow it.
I'm not going to be on a soapbox raging against it.
These are grown adults who get to choose how they live their lives.
They want to choose to be exploited for very small amounts of money.
I can't stop them.
I just don't care.
I watched,
I never watched a full event.
I've tried to.
I find it immeasurably boring.
And I don't,
I personally don't even care about the clips that are,
it's reasoned that you're like,
seeing that slap knockouts are just like,
it's not like,
that's just not interesting to me.
Like that is,
that feels like,
because it is exactly what it is.
Of like,
yeah,
if a defenseless person gets popped in the head real hard,
they're probably going to go down.
It's not like to steal Dana's phrase.
Like, he's in the oh shit business.
There's not no shit to me.
There's like no, oh shit about it.
It's just like, because the,
the, oh shit's come when I'm like,
I didn't know that dude was going to swing
and knock that dude out because they're engaged in a back and forth
offense versus defense dynamic battle.
Like, that's what oh shit happens.
Not, oh, yeah, that guy,
that guy fell that time like all right it's just no appeal to me whatsoever rs 40 thoughts on what's next
for fluffy i think you should try to get the bow nickel fight that might be a fight they could put him
right on right in the mix again losing back to back really hurts his title chances that might be
a really bad fight for him but i don't hate the hutzpah of it like that's a that's a bold
effort i don't think it would go very well for him um
What are your thoughts on, I think, I don't know if this is Mazel or Wyman on Deepwater said that he should go to 170.
If you could do it, I'd be interested in it.
It feels like you probably could do it.
And it seems like we've reached, like he can, he can be a top 15 middleweight very obviously.
He, my bigger concern is he does not have, he has like two ideas.
and that has carried him a very long way.
But when you can stop a couple of his ideas,
he does not have like a deep bag of tricks to dive into
to help overcome sort of setbacks
like we've seen in his last two fights.
He has always felt a little small for the weight class,
which has worked with his cardio thing.
But if that's starting to become prohibitive,
I don't know that he'd be more successful at welterweight,
but it would at least be a change of look here.
And maybe that's just what he needs for now because his middleweight aspirations are done for the time being.
I honestly, like, I think it'd be totally fine to be into it.
The bigger issue is he needs to, like, be better at fighting.
He's, he's very, very good at fighting.
But he's very good at, like, three things.
And he's, like, his career has been manifesting those things on opponents.
And opponents are figuring out how to not let that happen.
And that's getting, like, that's making him significantly worse.
Like when you're at the top of the,
Islam Markachev is the best fighter in the world world,
best fighters of generation.
He can do everything.
He can do so many,
like he has so many ideas.
Go watch the And Gary fight.
They came in with like,
here are our plan to attack you.
And some of it worked and a lot of it didn't
because Ian is very good defensively.
And as that fight went on,
he wasn't just doing the same things over and over again.
He was doing some of the same things over and over again.
He was doing some of the same things, some similar things over and over again,
because those things will work.
He kept going to outside single shots, right?
It's a staple of his game anyway, but he kept doing those and going for like crackdown finishes on the takedowns.
And then trying to like leg wrap and roll through.
Ian kept going to the same, I'm going to do this leg wrap and try and pivot.
And it worked a lot.
And in the fifth round, instead, Islam adjusted again.
It's like, all right, I'm going to suck your hips into me.
and we can't do this anymore.
And then he immediately got that pass through to the back.
He has so many ideas that when his athleticism or his plan A is maybe not even like getting
stopped, but is just not as effective as like he would wish it to be, he can pivot.
He can adjust to the adjustments his opponents have made.
Fluffy can do like a couple of things and he can do them harder and that's it.
and his last two fights,
that has been a real limiter for him.
He needs to add more tools to the bag,
or that's still going to be a problem
because more people are,
there's just more tape to be like,
all right,
punch him in the body and don't give up free takedowns.
Like,
you got to find a way to adjust
if it's easier to read you.
Yeah.
We'll see what happens with fluffy,
I don't like,
I don't mind the bow idea.
I don't mind that one.
It's really bold.
I think that fight is probably very bad for him,
but it's,
a high risk, high reward fight.
You lose three in a row, that's tough.
You beat Bo Nicol, you're right back in the mix.
So Dark Side of the Cage is coming back on Vice Jed.
Season two, it's going to debut.
There's no ending of stories they could do for that show.
Yes.
Tuesday, the season debuts.
It'll debut with the story on Jason Mayhem Miller.
He will be week one.
other episodes following will be
Don Frye, Tito Ortiz,
Chal Sunnin, Mark Coleman,
the tragic decline of Phil Barone,
and the
Connor McGregor versus Habib Nirmaga-Maga-Madhaed-off rivalry.
I'm sorry, run those back one more time for me?
Certainly.
Let me just pull it up real quick.
So we have Don Fry,
Well, Jason Miller starting September 1st, Don Frye, Tito Ortiz, Chal Sunnin, Mark Coleman, the tragic decline of Phil Barone, and the season will shed new light on one of the most heated feuds in UFC history, Connor McGregor versus Habeem Narmaga Madoff.
Okay.
I like that they're doing Phil.
One of my main quibbles from the first season was just like...
We knew everything.
I mean, I'm going to know everything on any of these.
Like, this is not a program for us.
It just isn't, and that's okay.
Like, I don't, but I've seen some,
I've certainly seen clips from Dark Side of the,
of the ring or whatever the, like, thing that shows around.
My understanding, or at least the thing I intuit it is, like, that's,
the name is correct, that it's about the sort of gruesome underbelly of professional
wrestling more than just like, here's.
like here's the history of the sport or whatever
and it did feel like it's like
that first season was not wholly willing to
because I can't I guess say this definitively
I'm not a pro wrestling expert
even may has like genuinely
wildly dark undertones
all throughout its history
in like really really grim ways
and they didn't like
they did the war machine
obviously like and that was more it's like yeah but there are like there are so many war machine
stories and it felt like they weren't engaging on those terms you know like this stuff was dark
but it wasn't like here's actually the worst parts of the history of this sport because you could do
that forever and uh this this grouping feels a little more still like we're not we're not really
diving all the way down into the muck of things but like
some of these are better stories to be told than others, you know?
Yeah.
And I like Dark Side of the Ring too.
And I enjoy Dark Side of the Cage.
The problem, the only issue with the show that I truly have is you cannot,
some of these stories you just cannot tell in an hour or less, honestly, with commercials.
Like you have like 42 minutes to tell a story.
Like, how are you going to tell the Jason Miller story in 42 minutes?
Like, you just can't do it.
Like, at least the pride thing you did multiple episodes on.
So that was kind of interesting.
And I know a lot of people were intrigued by that,
but it's just so hard to tell these stories the right way in 42 minutes.
But we'll see how it goes.
Obviously, some pretty good subject matter.
Aussie strike, any thoughts on the Noche main event?
Obviously, we found out John Silva no longer fighting Yaira Rodriguez.
What a shocker.
He is fighting Jose Delgado instead.
And yeah.
Risky fight for John Silva against a guy who not a lot of people know, but is very good.
And I don't know if this one gets him a title shot or not, but I don't know if you really had choice, but stay on the card and fight.
Thoughts on the new Minoche main event?
There are two thoughts.
They are very separate.
We have to go in different rooms, Mike.
These are not, we can't be in the same room to discover two rooms.
one room
the fight
the fight itself
super fun
we're gonna have a good time
Joseo god or Jean Silva
it's gonna be fun
every other part of it
no
just no like
remember the no
like noche is supposed to be a big thing
it's supposed to obviously
celebrate Mexican independence
or whatever
they do some
like the noche 306 card
was they was sick
like that was really good
to the sphere
but like
even before that, this was supposed to be like a big thing, a celebratory event.
And it feels like the quality has just continued to decline.
And I know that this is a short notice injury fight.
But like you got a no disrespect intended to Jose Delgado.
He's not a main eventor yet.
Maybe he gets there.
But like it's just you got to, you got to have a main event that you have a backup plan for if somebody pulls out.
Especially if that main event includes.
Jaye Rodriguez, who does not fight that often and is prone to pulling out.
They usually have a better plan than I guess we'll call Jose Delgado.
And, you know, we're doing Mexican independence in Glendale.
It's just like, it feels like Noche was a slam dunk.
Here's a cool thing.
Here's a figurehead promotion to build around.
And they have just almost immediately been like, whatever, who cares?
It's the same as anything else.
Yeah.
let's promote boxing.
Let's make that our priority.
But hey, before the boxing event,
we'll just give you this little UFC event during the day.
What a time.
It's just like, Mike, you know my thoughts.
I've said, I've pitched this forever.
Four majors.
You do four big majors a year.
And then you still have the other cards.
And even some of the other cards are like,
there's the debate about what's the fifth major?
You know, what's the players?
And it's just like,
No-Chi is.
should be that. It's like this is
better than a generic fight night
card. Maybe not quite
to the level of the four majors
a year, but it's still a point of viewing.
It's noche should
more than any of the other four
be the waste management.
It should be the one that's a party.
Like nocha should be a party.
And instead it's this. Like I want to
look up, I was trying to do this before I started
ranting again. I want to look up
the noche mains
of thing.
Oh, yeah.
Valentina Shepchenko versus Alexa Grasso was the first.
Yeah.
And then that was Grasso's upset win, correct?
Yes.
Then we got Rob, Sean O'Malley.
Yeah, in the sphere.
And then we got John Silva, Diego Lopez.
Yeah, like a fun fight, but like we went from title fight with a Mexican
contender,
uh,
sphere mega show.
like a solid fun fight or whatever to now this like come on make this and in glendale we went from
the sphere to like san antonio to yeah but san Antonio was supposed to be guadalajara wasn't it but then
there was like there was uh uh issues with like security there or whatever in the building there were
riots happening so they pulled it so i'm at least willing to be like they tried to go to guadalajara
that's cool this was just like we're going to glendale like why why
do better.
Like, it's okay to like your product.
I swear to God, UFC,
it's okay to like your product
and to make an effort to show that you like it.
And again, that fight will be fun.
Jose O'Don-Silva, it's a Jean-Silva fight.
It's a Jose-Ogada fight.
They're going to crack each other.
But like, it just feels like we had a,
like an obvious win,
and they are intentionally letting it wither and die.
Yeah.
A couple more if we're going to get out of here.
because I have to go to this press conference.
Extra and start, bench, cut.
This is a Jedbushu question.
Todd Gurley, Sony Michelle, Nick Chubb.
I mean, extra, and the question would be college or professional, obviously.
Sony Michelle is getting cut in either consideration.
How dare you?
He's a perfectly solid running back.
He was not remotely as good as either of these two.
either professionally or collegially.
Collegially,
Nick Chubb would be the start,
one of my favorite college athletes of all time,
one of my favorite dogs of all time.
Honestly, might actually just be my favorite dog of all time.
And then Todd Gurley sits and we cut Sony.
Professionally, it's probably still that order,
but there is a really good argument for Gurley over Chubb
because there was that season where Gurley won offensive
player of the year and was like the driving force behind the ram super bowl team that lost
the mike's patriots um like he chub had a longer career and still a very very very very good one uh i
think curly had or girly had a shorter career and i think his highs were just like like his
absolute peak was slightly higher than nick chubbs but he fell off like tremendously uh so you know i'll go
Chubb girlie
Michelle. But like Michelle
wouldn't even be the third I'd choose, honestly.
Big touchdown score.
Yeah.
That's like in college he was,
it was so funny when I got drafted
because it's like he, I never wanted him
on the field. And he was always a good player.
It was like you're taking snaps away from Nick Chubb.
Stop, stop doing that.
Just give the ball to Chubby.
He's the best man alive.
But yeah, you know, Georgia.
We produced really good running back.
There's an argument D'Andre Swift should actually be the third man there.
Before we wrap, Jedd.
Look, this event is crazy and I'm not overly thrilled with a lot of this stuff.
And trust me, when you see our coverage on this event, you will see what we're talking about.
But Mike Perry is fighting Dylan Dennis on Saturday.
That fight is happening.
I'm curious what your thoughts are on the fight itself.
And do you have a pick?
Do you have a bet on this fight?
I haven't seen where my book does not have an option for me to bet on this fight.
So I don't.
I probably just won't anyway.
I'm picking Mike Perry.
I don't have a world of confidence in it.
Mike Perry is just the more established and accomplished M.M.A.
fighter. Certainly, if this ends up, this is a pure striker grappler. If this is on the feet,
Mike Perry is going to kill him. This is on the ground. Dylan's probably going to cook him.
Mike has in general been like, I think Mike Perry is more athletic than Dylan Dennis. He's
mostly pretty good at defending takedowns. But like the thing is, it is entirely possible that Mike
just sort of like gets too bozo and gets taken down. And then suddenly Dylan's on his back. And for all the
that Dylan Dennis has and that I have with him.
It cannot be understood.
This is a legitimate world-class grappler,
and so if he can get the fight to his phases, he can win.
But it's like, my biggest issue with this fight is,
I don't know why this is happening on this Bozo show.
Like, this should just be MVP-PFL thing.
Like, just, because it's interesting.
It is a genuinely interesting fight with two guys who draw attention.
So I'll tune in, but I won't watch anything else going on on that card, quite frankly.
Yeah, I mean, there's some like okay stuff on here.
Like Phil Rose boxing.
The Jimmy Manoa fight is interesting.
Yeah, Jimmy Manoa is.
Jimenez-Mano is 46.
I don't need to see him punch people or get punched.
He's boxing.
Chase Sherman on this card.
So, yeah, we'll see how it all plays out.
I'm going to press conference.
I have no idea what the hell we're going to see there.
It's going to be a shit show if they do the two people that I hope they don't do.
They're doing everybody together, from what I understand.
Yeah, if that includes those two people, they're going to dominate.
It's going to be a nightmare.
Yes.
So we're probably going to edit around that as much as possible, but hopefully.
Yeah, because we can't monetize it.
Yeah.
And plus we're just not going to do it.
it anyways but uh the good news is uh i should be i'm pretty sure i'll be speaking with both mike
perry and dylan danis later on today so uh that's really the biggest reason i'm heading there
today so i got to get ready to head over there so that is the music yeah what uh what a busy weekend
tender series did anything else going on this weekend there's an i bf heavyweight title
oh uh moses thomas fighting philip herridge actually
That's not awful.
Spotten.
This event.
What's the spotting thing?
That is the Brazil card with Glover and Shogun.
Oh, that's the Glover thing.
I was like, yeah, it's like that sounds like something.
I just don't know.
Yeah.
He will be there.
Is there anything else going on?
The Atama Hergevich is like, that's a good boxing fight.
Oh, yeah.
I mean, it's heavyweight, so it's whatever.
But like, you've got an undefeated English.
heavyweight prospect fighting for a world championship.
That's pretty cool.
BKFC at Fenway Park.
Joe Lozon competing on that card and some other New England is.
I did not realize that was this weekend.
Okay.
That is this weekend as well.
So lots happening.
