All right, Mike Heck here from MMA fighting, and my good friend Jed Mishu is here with me as well,
because Jed, the day has finally arrived.
It's App Day, the all-new SB Nation app.
It's live now.
It's live, Jed.
It's alive.
Yeah, man, I'm really excited.
And it's awesome, man.
Combat sports, like all sports, but combat sports fan especially, you guys are going to have your voices heard like never before within SB Nation.
MMA boxing, not me, but you, pro wrestling, Mike.
It's, it is a community-based app.
It's all about community with the new SB Nation app.
It's so easy to use and it can keep obviously combat sports fans connected to their favorite teams and all of sports too across the board.
So I can keep up with the Red Sox, the Celtics, the Patriots and the Bruins all on my phone.
And it's so simple to use.
Yeah, like you, you mentioned those teams, but there's so much more because I don't care about Boston sports, Mike.
But I get to follow the NFL, all the other sport, F1, the various sports that I care about outside.
side of combat sports.
And then there's the live experience because that's, to me, that's one of the coolest things.
You can chat with us during fight cards every Saturday.
And you can chat with other people in the communities as big events are happening.
So it's, it's a really good time.
So ladies and gentlemen, come fight with us over on the all-new SB Nation app.
Download it today.
Download it right now.
What are you waiting for?
Download it.
Between the links.
The iconic voice of Esther Lynn welcomes you to a brand new edition.
of BTL, happy Thursday to us all. We are back.
Shout out to the Twitchters.
We're hearing that even though we had some things set up
for Twitch, things weren't being broadcast to Twitch, but we fixed
that yesterday. Now we are being broadcast back into the
Twitcherverse, so we're live on YouTube, on Twitter, on Twitch.
With all of you on this Thursday, lots to talk about the fallout of
UFC Paris. MVP unemployed.
currently, but could
MVP going, could MVP
go to MVP?
Got Nochi UFC,
we got Connor Ben, Ryan
Garcia, UFC 332
has been revealed and people hate it.
All that and much more
to talk about.
And joining me to discuss all these things
or whatever it is you want to talk about
on this Thursday,
Mr. No Gray area himself,
the one and only.
Jed Michoud from M.M.AFighting.com.
Jed, how are we doing?
I saw No Bet's Bard back in our lives.
Is that accurate?
it. Yes, that did that. I'm off and I was off yesterday and that's been an issue of the last few weeks of scheduling of like, it's just me being lazy in a lot of ways, but like I get off on Wednesdays. I'm like, I'm not going to record this. It's my day off. And I was like, you know what? This noche card, while bad for a noche card and with the main event that's questionable is still a pretty fun card. Right? And I was like, and I got to get one down. Plus, there was.
turn of the, it's easy to skip out on no-bets bards and I'm not going to climb because that's
really the only thing I care about at this stage of my gambling life anymore. You know, I make the other
bets. I have some fun, but like I, as far as my MMA betting is concerned, in my other sports
betting, I care a lot more about various things. But the climb is consumed all my energy and
it's back this week, Mike. So a no-bets bar dropped yesterday. Go check that out on the M.A.
Fighting Podcast Network.
Great website.
Great podcast network.
Check out our app.
It's all great app.
Great app.
It's not the MVP fighting app.
It's the SB Nation app.
But I'll go check that out.
It's great app.
And yeah,
you know,
thriving, Mike.
Yes.
The Patriots are not thriving last night.
What a bummer.
I like went to bed.
I was like,
Seattle sucks.
I was like,
oh, you know,
it was 10 nothing.
I was like,
I got,
I'm tired.
Like,
they're going to win
because Seattle.
has no offense and also like the Patriots just need to score three more points and they couldn't do it.
So I should have stayed awake.
That was bad.
I would like to clarify because my friend Graham, we've met who's also a Boston guy,
we were on the, he said similar things last time.
I was like, yeah, they suck because on the fifth play of the game, their quarterback went down and Drew Locke came in.
Maybe give them a little bit of grace.
The offense was being run by Drew Locke and not their starting quarterback.
But, yeah, where are you out on the Romeo Dubs meter?
Do you want to eject him into the sun or simply cast him out to see kind of where?
Where do you fall on the what should happen to the $70 million man in Romeo Dubs?
I've been enjoying all the different memes and like parody videos and little clips of like bad wide receivers and bad football players.
And they're like, oh, here's Romeo Dubs.
So I'm enjoying that
But yeah, it was bad
I thought first game
For six weeks
At least
Yeah
At least it's broken
So there's that
But high ankle sprain
He's probably out six weeks
Yeah
And the minute he went down
I was watching that game
It was like
Oh your offense is just remandre now
Got it
It was a frustrating first half to watch
Because it was just like
All you have to throw
Like if you just take a few chances
Like you're up 24 to nothing
Right now
And they just don't
chances. Like, they just do not allow.
Then he took, then he started taking
some chances. Too late.
They were bad.
But the first half, it was like wide over, like,
throw the ball down field a little bit.
It was just, ah, it's just so tough to watch.
But I was like, the page of defense is,
is solid enough that they'll be able to hang.
Yeah, pretty solid.
Like, once the second half started, I'm like,
Drewlock, but still, they look pretty okay.
I'm like, all Drake May has to do is just like,
he could just hand the ball off three times in a row
and not throw anything.
And he threw three fucking picks.
The last one was, it was a long season.
It was a bad one.
The combination of a really awful decision and just an impeccable pick.
Like the footwork to get down there.
That decision was horrible and should not have been made.
But like that's still a hard pick to like complete.
And he did.
I was like, damn.
Okay.
I thought we were for sure had it over time.
Yeah.
Not great.
Not great.
Tough scenes.
Hey, we started off the last year.
We were the laughing stock of the league and then went to the Super Bowl.
When AJ comes back, I think you can take heart that apparently Drake May is willing to just hawk the ball down field and double coverage.
And that's where AJ Brown wants to be.
So that's a combo.
He's getting a little practice in.
So that's good.
So check your questions.
And shout out to Scott gifted 20 memberships to the crew today.
Scott does know.
Scottie does know.
about.
Scotty,
thank you for the kind words.
But also,
yeah,
this is tough.
This is right at the start
of the Patriots C-Hawks game,
we found out that Barry Melrose
passed away.
Dude, everyone loved.
Always a fun watch
when he was waxing poetic
on hockey and life.
ESPN mainstay,
had the mullie,
never got rid of it.
Barry Melrose, man.
What a legend.
That sucks, man.
Terrible.
Yeah, that is tough scenes.
But, you know,
He, I mean, not a but, you know, that's a bad transition.
Very tough.
But I have, when something like this happens, the same with Dolly Parton when she passed.
Like, you, nobody has had a bad thing to say about Barry Melrose in the passing.
It has all been glowing, you know, talks about how either individual moments of him touching their lives or just like, was a great dude.
good hang, best mullet, maybe of all time.
It's right up there if not.
And like, that's how, you know,
we should all be so lucky is that whenever we do go
that we are remembered as fondly as Barry Melrose will be.
Yeah, 100%.
So rest and peace to just a legend.
A legend of the hockey game.
I mean, legend of broadcasting.
Probably possibly the greatest mullet of all time.
Absolutely.
I feel, I say this to a lot of people.
Barry Melt, like hockey should be more popular.
but the biggest reason why hockey is so,
by the NHL is so popular in the United States
from like the late 90s
through the early to mid-2000s
and even like the early 2010s,
Barry Melrose deserves so much credit
for putting the sport over as much as it got.
And without him being with the SPN,
especially during that time where they were broadcasting those games,
I don't know where the NHL would be,
to be perfectly honest with you.
Like I honestly would have no idea.
So I think he,
He deserves a ton of credit for that RIP to a legend.
He, like, is when I think of what a hockey player is supposed to look like, it's like, yeah, it looks like you've got, you've got that, the goate and the flowy mullet and a little bit of gray peppered in there.
Like, that's how a hockey player is supposed to look in my head.
Yeah, he does his job, drinks a bunch of beers, and then the offseason just plays golf every single day with the mully flowing.
I mean, that's just what a hockey player does right now.
So shout out to Ace Buggy.
Thank you, sir.
Do quote unquote, wash fighters deserve a reset against lesser competition once the
quote unquote job is done?
Chandler's best days are behind him, but it's hard to gauge his level given his recent
competition.
I'd love to see him versus Terrence McKinney.
Jed, your thoughts on the washed fighter and where they should go after just being
thumped up by really good people, time and.
time again.
I mean, I think we're going to quibble with some terminology here.
Like, washed fighters don't deserve anything.
They should just retire.
Like, if you're washed, Israel-Azanya is washed.
Like, he's washed.
That's just it.
And I, it would be best.
Like, if you are purely, and here is the part that I think fans don't think about
when it comes to the UFC.
And I'm not even necessarily saying,
that this is right or wrong.
I think it is a matter of perspective.
You can view this as being acceptable and okay,
but very clearly, right?
Like, if Israel-Arasanya had personal management,
had people who were invested in him as a property
and maximizing his athletic career,
and that was their only driving force,
it was nothing else,
he would not have had the last, like, three opponents he's had, right?
Like, because upon losing the belt, okay, sure, you run him right back in for a rematch with, uh, with Pereira.
And that works and he wins.
Okay.
And then he lose the belt again.
Okay, you run him, you get a title fight.
So you run him right back in for the title fight.
But if this were boxing where, you know, Eddie Hearn is promoting a fighter and he wants to maximize the value of that fighter, he would not then be like, okay, so Izzy has now lost several times.
he's well outside of the title picture
let's put him in again
against some like an
up-and-comer that's not
how that would go
as far as like promoting them
but because it's because it's the UFC
and like sure technically
is he has has his own management
but like we all know how this game works right
like the UFC is not
as a policy is not going to go
okay here is
the 100th best
middle weight for you to get your groove back
They're going to say, hey, here's an astronautianinovov, and then you go and you lose.
And then, hey, here's Joe Pfeiffer.
Because the UFC's incentive structure is not to maximize Israel to Sanya.
And again, that's not a moral imperative that this is correct or incorrect, right?
Like, it is a matter of taste.
But one of the benefits to the boxing structure and being invested in individual fighters is we would get more of what Ace Buggy is saying here.
We're like, Michael Chandler has lost a million in a row,
and we don't think anything of him at this stage is like a real fighter,
and he probably doesn't deserve to because he lost a million in a row.
But like, he wouldn't have in a,
if there was somebody actually looking out for his best athletic and career interests,
he would have gotten a tune-up fight after a couple of losses.
Like this is standard operating procedure in boxing.
Like, oh, okay, AJ's out of the title picture now.
let's get him a few softballs in there.
Let's let him,
because also there's so much of fight sports is confidence.
And when you lose one, two, three, four in a row,
like your confidence takes a hit.
So you just, it is the same with any other sport, Mike.
Like, you know, if a batter, if somebody's got a cold bat,
you're just trying to get them on base.
You're just trying to get, oh, man, we've had,
it's a no hitter through six.
Let's just get on base.
Let's start the process there.
and the fundamental structure of the UFC is anathema to that.
And that means we don't get almost ever really like,
once it's bad for a fighter, it's done for a fighter,
because the UFC is not going to reset them like this.
So, you know, and that kind of sucks because wouldn't it be cooler
if Izzy had gone, all right, I've lost the DDP,
I'm well outside of the title picture.
Let's just have a fun fight, you know?
Let's get him in there with somebody who's very beatable
that he can show off against.
He can build his confidence.
And then we re-you refatten the pig for slaughter.
You don't beat the dead horse until it no longer is viable to do so.
And that's kind of the UFC's operating procedure.
Yeah, I mean, it kind of depends, too, because with the Izzy Piper fight in particular,
that was kind of like a win-win for the UFC.
Either Izzy like bounces back with a win over a good prospect they were pushing or Joe goes out there and.
absolutely runs over former champion.
Turns out I was the latter.
Like,
they couldn't lose in that situation.
They're all win-wins for the UFC
because if Izzy wins,
oh great,
he's back,
but if he loses,
it doesn't matter.
Whereas,
like,
just give that man an easy,
an easy out so we can be excited about him again.
Yeah,
I think there's certain fighters
you could probably do that with.
Like,
if Izzy says,
like,
dude,
this is my last fight ever,
like,
guaranteed this is it.
Then we can have a little fun.
Like,
who do you match Izzy up with now?
Like,
who would actually make,
make sense at this point.
I mean,
if I'm looking out for
Izzy or if I am
the UFC. If you're the UFC.
You do
Bo Nickel.
Yeah. Like that's, I think, and that's,
you know, I think Bo has called for that fight a couple
of times. And that's
it. You're trying to get Bo over.
You can sell yourself a lie
that Izzy can win that fight because he is
a good defensive wrestler and Bo is still
a very nascent striker.
But like, yeah, if you are the UFC, you're just,
you're going to give him bow nickel and then he's going to have lost six or
or five in a row or whatever it is.
Whereas like, is he's done, his long-term career prospects are done,
but we could do more with him.
People, like, especially fans could have a better experience end of career.
Because like, look at Anderson Silva.
Andrew and Silva lost his last like nine fights in the UFC.
and it is primarily a product of him being worse and still getting matched hard, right?
Like it was a descending level of opposition,
but it was a descending level of opposition concurrent with his own decline.
So it's all just hard fights for him because of his relative level.
He leaves the O.C and starts boxing, and he does well and it's good and it's enjoyable.
And it's largely because he's just fighting worse dudes in boxing.
right like he gets to so we get to have this late career arc that basically does not exist in the
UFC it it happens very occasionally but i mean it is for it is specifically for guys like
jim miller who never got to the top and so they could sort of just pare him back down and be like
oh you can fight the next contender series guy because he never rose to the height or it's guys at the
very top of the sport and we just beat them out of it.
Like that's how this always goes.
And I would love it if they,
the UFC has embraced squash matches for prospects.
I would love it.
And too much so, honestly.
But I would love it if they also embrace squash matches as rebound fights for high level
commodities that they have.
They have not figured that out at all.
No, they're like I,
I've been saying forever.
They are,
they are currently WWE in 1985.
that's where they're at right now.
Like, that's how they operate.
It's working.
Like, financially for them, it's working.
And they could just put anything in an arena and tickets will sell.
We'll see if they could fix that problem in the next 10, 15 years.
I don't know.
Like, Izzy versus Hidalfa Vieira.
You know, like, he's not,
but Dolfo Vieira is not going to punch him in the face.
And he's probably going to gas out in four minutes or whatever.
Like, like, versus Dolfo Vieira.
Demolador even, who at least would run the threat of punching
is he in the face. And that might be it. Like, give the man a softball to
rebuild his confidence. Like that is, again, standard operating
procedure. And I think eventually they will get there. Like,
they haven't figured this out yet because like in a large part,
I think it is their, their holistic view is very childish of like,
I want, and we see this with other things I'm sure we'll talk about. It's like,
I want this right now.
If he's going to be champion,
I want him to be back there right now.
There's never a slow build.
Like,
they don't develop.
But they finally figured out squash matches,
which again,
boxing around for 200 years,
they've been doing this forever.
They finally added that into the repertoire.
And I think now they're going to be like,
okay,
like eventually they'll be like,
man,
you know what would be better for Ilya
than putting him in another fight
with Justin Gaci that he might lose
and irrevocably ruined his start of a career?
What if we just let him,
dunk on some fool.
And everybody was like, oh shit,
Ilya versus Terrence McKinney, that was
dope and he blew the doors off
Terrence McKinney. And now like, we're
excited because, oh, he's got his mojo back
and he does have his mojo back and it's
fun. I think they're going to figure it out, but
not in the next couple of years.
Would you do Izzy versus Fluffy?
No.
Why? Actually, that makes a lot
of sense right now. I mean, again,
I would give him the softest of balls possible
and I be like he could that's all of these or he could win he could have beaten um who joe Piper you know like these are on paper but i'm not giving him i would not give him a ranked dude or a dude near the rankings if i were in charge of his career uh i think if the u ofc wants to it that's fine
It's not like as high upside as doing Bo Nickel
because if Fluffy beats Izzy,
he's not really in the title mix.
So you've gained very little off the name of Izzy by burying him.
But I mean, it's fine.
Joseph, is the frustration about 332
because Valentina's actually injured when she carried women's flyweight on her back?
If 332 was Valentina versus Natty Ice,
would there be frustration among media and fans still?
there probably would be a little bit of grumbling.
I don't think there'd be frustration.
I do think the frustration is
this is just the manifestation of an ongoing problem,
which is I don't know who's behind the wheel of the UFC
and I don't think anyone does.
It feels like they are rudderless so often
in a way that they never were.
Mike, do you remember?
We used to know the main.
events for pay-per-views months in advance.
Like months in advance, we would have like the top five.
And now it's like four weeks out.
TBDs are thrown out.
Like they, it really feels so bootstrapped constantly.
And it's been this way for like a year and a half, two years where for 300, they were like,
I don't know.
Here it is.
Here's the three.
And it's, it feels like they have not done any long term planning.
And that that should just be somebody's job to be like, or like, they do it, but they
don't. They want to keep it a secret and not tell anybody because quite obviously the long term,
like the plan here was we're going to do Val versus Natalia Silva. If they didn't now, I honest to
God think people would be cooler with this. If a month ago they had announced Valentina Shepchenko
versus Natalia Silva. And then this, you know, last week or this week, whenever it happened,
they were like, Valentina's out. She has been injured. She's going to be on the shelf for about a year.
and as a result, she is vacating the title,
Wang Tong is stepping into play.
I think people would be cooler with that.
But being like, it's one of those things where when you have to keep asking somebody,
hey, can you do this for me?
Hey, can you do this for me?
Hey, can you do this for me?
Hey, what's the main event?
What is the main event?
And then you do a shitty job.
You get really upset with that person.
If you're like, if you ask your coworker to do this task 10 times,
and then they do a shitty job of it,
it's more frustrating than like any other experience.
I think that's the big feeling here.
It's like, why couldn't you have told us this two months ago that this was the plan?
And also, why was this the plan?
Why don't you have a better idea of what the fuck is going on?
This is your job.
Take this seriously.
And it does not feel like they're taking things seriously.
They knew this was going to be an issue a long time ago.
You instead gave both, by the way,
both October pay reviews and pretty much any pay-per-view they do or a numbered event.
They're being paid millions of dollars to go there and host this event.
So like the Utah slash Salt Lake City Tourism Board is paying the Upsie millions of dollars
to come to their respective arenas to host this event.
And yet Abu Dhabi is also paying more money and they get two very good title fights
while Salt Lake City gets this.
A fake title fight.
Let's go where it is.
It is.
I think I can confidently say this is the worst UFC title fight in history.
It's just,
I won't say that,
but it's,
oh, dude,
it's so bad.
It's so bad.
The fact that way,
Antonio fought for the inaugural flyway time.
I don't really call that one the worst.
Which is the same.
I'm going to call that one the worst.
Yeah,
that was a real,
at least a reality show.
And like,
this is what happens to get us there.
Like,
there was a build to it,
All of the worst ones are frankly off tough.
But this, this, what, first of all, stripping Valentina is ridiculous.
Like, I know she hasn't fought in a while.
But like, if you go on her Instagram right now, if you like check out her Instagram stories,
like she's dancing around.
She doesn't look injured at all.
She looks like she's having the friggin time of her life out there.
Like, I don't know what's happening.
I truly don't know.
I know her coach released a statement, but like you check out anything Valentina Shepchenko
is done over the last week or so.
she looks healthy as a horse.
So I think something weird's going on.
In fact, you know,
I know Ariel's talked about this.
We've talked about it as well.
Anytime that flight was reported
between Valentina Shufchenko and Natalia Silva,
we were told, at least from the Valentina side,
like, we haven't been offered anything.
So now I'm like, now I don't know what this is all about.
And I'd love to hear from Valentina.
Ashley, no story is.
The thing that really irks me about this,
one, if you did this as like an interim title fan,
it was like, look, we had to scramble
and this is what we got,
like, fine. But you're stripping
Valentina Shepchenko. You're
calling Natalia Silva,
who by the way should 100% be in this
fight, to fight maybe
the fifth best alternate, like
alternative is insane
to me. Menon Fior
should be in this fight. She should
not be fighting on Saturday. Wang Tong
should be fighting Alexa Grasso on Saturday.
Men and Fior should be fighting Natalia Silva.
Who cares? Aaron Blanchfield.
Aaron Blanchfield is a better case than Wang Tong.
Jasmine Jezdefizzius, even though she's
got finished by men on fior has a better case for a title shot than wang tong right now there are just
there are better options and to say that wang tong after beating the ghost of tracy cortez
is fighting for an undisputed title in the main event of a numbered card isn't is insane to me
this is insane this makes no sense the fact that it's an undisputed title fight that honestly
is what irks me more than anything like this is the world we're living in we're going to have
50 numbered events for the next six years.
It's going to happen.
We just had UFC 325
with a horrendous main event,
arguably another one of the worst title fights ever made
between Alexander Volcanovokinovsky and Diego Lopez
a rematch nobody asked for and nobody wanted.
The rest of that card was terrible on paper,
except for like maybe one other fight.
This card isn't horrible,
but the main event is stupid because you put the word
undisputed into the mix here.
That's my biggest,
gripe about all of this?
My belief is that they are contractually obligated to deliver a title fight,
and interim title fights don't count.
That's my,
I think that's why this happened.
Like,
that it's just like Utah paid them $10 million or whatever the price is.
And part of the contract is we get a,
we get an undisputed title fight,
and they couldn't find a way to do it.
So here we go.
Haven't they had like BMF title fights headline their events over there?
Maybe BMF counts as different.
but like I just
I think very
if I was Utah tourism board
or whatever Salt Lake City
whoever's paying them
I would be upset about this anyway
but if the UFC came to me
and was like we're going to do an interim title fight
between these two women I'd be like
we would like our money back please
or a substantial chunk of your money
or money back
and I mean it's the same reaction
the fans have had everybody's like no
the people who live outside the US
who still have to pay for these events
nobody's going to buy this goddamn thing.
Yeah, and they don't care either, by the way.
They do not care.
I mean, all of the problems in the UFC boil down to they have a monopoly, and so they don't care.
They don't care about you, the user, the end user, the product.
They care about the business side of things, which is not our thing.
And that's like my frustration with this is because it's so, like I said, it is,
their apathy is so tangible, it's so palpable.
Because when they do care, you can see it.
They do occasionally care about things.
They cared about the White House.
And they promoted that thing for almost a full year.
And they gave an event that, you know, I have some quibbles with it.
Well, you know, some other issues.
But like, nobody can argue that that wasn't a big, exciting, thrilling spectacle of an event that was well produced, well managed.
and mostly, again, there are some quibbles to be made,
but mostly like delivered the expectations that you have for the UFC giving an effort.
And this is, oh, we've got, we are contractually obligated to deliver a pay-per-view event to these people in four weeks.
Here's the, I don't know, what's in the back of the fridge that we can pull out and throw it together.
Here it is. Eat it, piggies, eat the slop up.
And, you know, I'm sure there are people who are going to be like,
it's,
it's,
UFC's great ball.
Like, this is just,
there is,
I guess,
no limit to what you
will find is acceptable
because this is just so,
if this were a fight night event,
and that's sort of,
I guess,
another big feeling for me is like,
in the olden days
and not to be all old man
yon at the clouds,
they would either cancel this event
and they would never cancel an event,
but they'd be like,
okay, this is free.
It's now free on,
you know,
and because we're in the Paramount era,
it is kind of free for all of us,
but for the people who live outside the U.S., it's not.
They still got to pay for this shit.
And it's just like you got to care,
you got to just care a little bit.
And you don't have, again,
I know that they've done this before, Mike,
because they did it for the whole years.
You can plan more than what is directly in front of your vision.
It is not that difficult to plan six months a year,
five years out.
Like, you can't book fights five years out, but you can have your set schedule for the rest of the year easily done.
And frankly, right now, you could have your, here are our broad targets for next year.
Because we already know that next June, that's roughly when we're going to want Connor McGregor versus TBD for next international fight week.
You could have all of this out and you could just get them done.
Get the contracts done.
Let us know and people would be more into it.
but when you don't tell a shit forever and then it's four weeks out and you give us this,
it looks like you do not give a shit.
And if you don't give a shit about the thing you're selling me,
why should I give a shit about it?
Yeah.
And the problem is,
on top of this,
which I'm a little disappointed,
Dana was not asked about this card during his contender series scrum.
I want to answer this in a moment.
No one asked him about it.
But we already know what his answer is going to be.
So, like, it doesn't matter.
Like, if you don't like, you don't watch it.
Like, literally, that's what he's going to say.
That's the face of your company.
You have made him the face of your company.
A fighter will never be the face of the UFC ever again
because you've made Dana White the face of it.
And that is going to be his answer.
It's either, hey, it's for free on CBS.
Stop bitching.
It's on Paramount.
All the events are power around.
I love the TVS, by the way.
It's good.
And it's an hour earlier.
So I love that.
Like, our watch party is going to start at like 730.
that night. That's great.
I'll take that for 332.
Yeah. Is this the one that you maybe
have a conflict? Nope.
We do not have a conflict anymore because R.F.
moved their Vegas event back to the same
day as 333.
We should do. Because
we might should
do a virtual watch party for this car.
I'm just saying, man.
Look, it's an early day. We can
we'll be able to get some sleep. I'm just saying, let's have a
conversation. Yeah, there might have
conversation.
Look, 332 stinks.
Like, it's not good.
333 is pretty good.
331's fine.
Like, not the best card, but fine.
It's going to be fun.
I mean, the main event's awesome.
Hans-A-van is awesome.
Sarukin's going to destroy Ruffy,
but it's still like fun.
It'll be a fun build.
Yeah, it's a fun build,
and there at least is fake stakes on the line
because Dana's like,
well, we'll see how the fight goes
we'll determine a number one contender fight,
which tells me that John Anick might
be right that they're probably going to do
Ilya versus Jessica Gage again and that
and that leads me to this, Chase.
I want to answer this from Pope
real fast. Please. On the topic.
I bet it's more difficult than you think,
especially with injuries and such. I'm not coming
after you, Pope 85 for this.
I'm not saying that it's
easy, but they get paid $1.1
billion a year to do it so they
can figure it the fuck out. And I know
they can because this company's
30 some odd years old and for
28 of them, they did it.
We, again, this is, I'm not asking for them to do something even new.
I'm asking for them to return to a standard that they set that took them from a $2 million
company to a $1.1 per year to a $7 billion company.
Let people know more than four weeks out what the fights are.
This is, combat sports is not a new venture.
This has been going on for 200 years.
This can be done.
Them not doing it is a choice or it's incompetence.
It's one of the two.
Neither of them are good answers.
couldn't have done Volkanovsky.
We couldn't have paid Volkan Movzar a whole bunch of extra money
to just move the fights, Salt Lake.
Like, we couldn't have done this.
We couldn't have this six weeks ago when you knew you were going to run out of this?
They should have done Marab and Jan,
though doing that at altitudes a little funnier,
but like they want to do Mavsar and Volkan Abu Dhabi.
I get that.
That, you know, that's there.
Well, yeah, I mean, but Jan also fighting Abu Dhabi is paying way more than you.
Oh, yeah, way more.
They pay more than anybody, which.
which is why they get the,
but we could have,
they could have done more.
They could have done it.
And I understand injuries and stuff like that,
but you're just,
you're taking too many risks,
waiting for things to fall into place.
Like,
I understand Kayla being hurt and having the neck injury
throws things off a little bit.
I'm sure this is maybe one of the options, right?
Like I'm sure Charles Olivera,
maybe a Diego Lopez fight could have happened,
but like Nassimento and everything that happened there
and him,
unfortunately,
passing like Charles, if Charles wasn't going to fight
Arm and Saruki in two weeks before that, he's certainly
not going to go to Salt Lake City
and fight Diego Lopez.
Like, that's not going to work.
From light heavyweight belt, you know, like,
they had options.
You could have done Pereira and Hokit for like
an interim interim belt.
Like, who cares?
Who gives a shit?
Be fine.
Yeah, you could just make up a belt.
It's totally okay.
The belts are meaningless anyways.
Look at the frigate main event.
That just tells you how meaningless the belt is.
They've stripped the greatest,
fighter in the history of that division and put together a nonsensical title fight.
It's unbelievable.
Let me say one other thing on this unless it's more of an offshoot.
But when they announced that Val was vacating, I think it's pretty clear she got stripped,
but whatever.
I honestly a piece of me that setting aside that this would not be the correct fight for
a vacant title in this weight class, obviously.
A piece of me was like, yeah, there's a way better weight class now.
Like, I'm way more interested in Flyweight.
And I like Flyweight in general, but, like, Val is a bit of an oppressive figure at the top of this.
Her dominance, her greatness is awesome.
But we've seen this over the history of the sport.
When you have a dominant champion, it depresses the rest of the sport or the rest of that weight class.
Like, I will go to my grave shouting from the rooftops.
Actually, Flyweight was really good.
it was just better and you guys are idiots.
Like I will believe till the end of my days
that Joseph Benavides is better than most of the other
fucking fighters in the world pound for pound,
but because he lost the DJ twice
and John Dodson lost a DJ and Kiojior Gucci lost the like,
he just beat a bunch of people and he was so good
it made the rest of the weight class feel worse.
I mean, Anderson Silva made middleweights feel worse.
Like this is what happens. We have dominance.
And so when you take the cap off,
I immediately was like, well, this isn't a good fight, but like if there's no longer the
val of it all, who's at the end of her career anyway, she surely can't keep doing this, right,
forever, then it's like, okay, now we're in a flyway division where you've got Natty Ice
and Menon Fior and Alexa Grasso back in the mix coming off a big knockout and Aaron Blanchfield
still here. And then you've got rising contenders coming up too. And suddenly, 125 feels alive.
And I was like, man, maybe the actual answer to all of this is instead of telling Valentina Shvchenko, we're stripping you, tell her, hey, we're going to strip you.
But instead of saying you have a back shoulder injury or whatever, even if that's true, what we're going to say is you've accomplished everything there is to accomplish.
And now you are going to challenge the winner of Amanda Nunes versus Kayla Harrison.
Whenever that fight happens, you are the locked in number one contender for that to change.
Chase greatness.
And I would like,
people would have been way cooler about that.
I think they'd be like,
all right,
yeah,
that's kind of fun.
It gives Bantameter's shot in the arm.
And it reinvigorated 125.
In my mind,
like,
as much as I love Val,
way better if she just doesn't come back to this weight class.
Kind of,
frankly,
like, Zhang.
Like,
115's better if Zhang just stays away
because at least new things are happening.
I mean,
technically,
if Val goes,
if Val leaves,
then Zhang doesn't have to
come back.
Jen can fight mental fuel.
And we could do this.
Jan can fight Natalia Silva.
And it would make more sense.
It would make more sense than Wang Tong fighting for the belt.
It's bananas.
Oh, my God.
By the way, this is, it's insane.
We're three-fourths away through the year.
We have one real women's title fight in the books.
That is also a liberal use of the word real,
depending on how much you view McKinsey Duren as the true champion at 115 pounds.
But in your eyes, Ted,
They should.
I mean, it's absolutely real, but I'm just saying.
Unbelievable.
It's just, yeah.
You know, they're going to load up MSG.
We'll see what December looks like.
That could be.
Again, I don't know.
I wrote about this last week and I will continue to beat this drum.
Majors.
Give us four majors, Dana.
You only have to care four times a year.
And I think everybody would be cool to be like,
all right, yeah, this is a shit pay-per-view.
But guess what?
MSGs, I think I pitched September something for the other,
so we'd actually be heading towards a real major.
But like, give us majors.
Come on.
So what did you do?
You would do like Miami as the first major?
So I actually, I suggested because I pinned this a little bit off of,
the both golf and tennis majors.
And so I went for Australia,
because they've gone to Australia in the very beginning of the year,
like three or four of the last five years.
I was like, that's fine.
You can have the Australian Open,
so you have the Australian major or whatever.
And then the second major is, in my mind,
you do it like the PGA or the U.S. Open,
where it's in the U.S.
and it's not in Las Vegas because International Fight Week is the third major.
That's, you know, the Masters or whatever.
But it rotates.
Like, you know, it goes from Shinnecock to, like, it's, you do that for the U.S. Open.
You do that for the second major.
It's in Miami.
It's in Jersey.
It's in Chicago.
That's rotating in the U.S.
So you go Australia to U.S. to Vegas to MSG.
MSG closes the year out.
It's the fourth major.
And then you still have, you know, your Paris trip, your London,
trip, your Noce.
Noce is like the waste management.
You know, we have fun.
It's easy.
Four majors a year.
One in each quarter.
That's also good for business because one in each quarter
means you have a reliable quarterly kick to be like, this is this for this quarter.
Everybody wins.
Yeah.
I mean, I would do Miami International Flyweek Abu Dhabi MSG.
And I know Abu Dami MSG is like kind of close to each other, but they're going to load
of Abu Dhabi anyways.
So like just make it a major.
Yeah, them being too close is why I chose not to, but like, that's also a fine answer.
Yeah.
There's no wrong way to eat this recent as long as you're giving us four majors, Mike.
Yeah, as long as you're trying.
Just because try.
Again, like, think about how much, and I wrote this in the proposal I wrote as an op-ed for our site.
Think about how much more we were willing to just swallow turds to get to 300 and to get to White House.
Like, yeah, this card sucks, but like,
300s around the corner.
That's going to be really cool.
Yeah, but honestly,
like,
White House is coming.
Dude,
we got,
I mean,
297 was bad.
Like,
that was a bad card on paper.
298 was Ilya versus Volk,
so we were pumped 29.
The goal of them were good,
but like all the other events,
it is so much easier to swallow
garbage apex card after garbage apex card
or trips to Houston or whatever.
If you have something to,
okay,
well,
we're moving to this.
So,
I'm convinced it's a great idea.
idea. They will never do it, but give us in the majors.
They should do this. And there was a time where it was like an unspoken rule that we were getting
that those are major events. Like that was the feeling. This was going to be a big deal. This is
going to be this. This is going to be that. And they veered away from it because
monies, like lots of monies. And George is getting upset. I haven't considered, I thought about
this and then my piece was too long. I haven't spent enough time thinking about the name.
of the majors but think about all the cool stuff you could do with major this was the other
argument that's where you could sell your sponsorships like that's just fun you want to you want to
call something uh the meta open or something like i don't give a shit that's fine i think you
could do so many cool things with it and uh i think it opens up uh an aspect that i had not
considered until i really like wrote out my proposal was like it opens up fun gimmicks
Whereas like, think about how much people in like the fan base loves Jim Miller fighting at the 100s, 100, 200, 300, 300, 300.
That is meaningless. It's a genuinely meaningless accomplishment.
It means nothing.
It's just, oh, you fought a long time and you're at arbitrary numbered events.
But people think it's cool.
I promise you, Marab Deval, if you announced next 2027 is the start of majors.
We're going to have four major events.
One, in the same way that every fighter was like, I want to be on white.
house you're going to have fighters vying to be there you're going and that is going to make them want
to be more interesting more exciting to be competing on the major events you throw some bells and
whistles about what it is you do bigger bonuses on the majors however you want to also make it appealing
but then you get fighters who want to do it and then you get somebody like marab who's going to be like
i want to i want to hit a grant i want to do the calendar grand slam i want to get a win in all four majors
one in one year
and doing like getting all four majors
like hitting the career grand slam
would be some level of an achievement.
These are silly stupid gimmicks.
Yes.
Silly stupid gimmicks are what make the world go round.
Like the sport.
WrestleMania?
WrestleMania.
Like that's a major.
WrestleMania Royal Rumble Survivor Series
SummerSlam.
Like those are the majors.
You work with WWE.
You guys can't get in a room.
TK.O.X.
We can't get Dana White, Hunter Campbell.
Triple H and all the geniuses over at WW in the same room to create names for these majors.
Yes, you can create them.
You can make it happen.
Sell the sponsorships.
It's fine.
And then guess what?
When these majors happen,
you think you're getting a bag of money to go to fucking Salt Lake City?
Just think of how much money people are going to spend to want to have octagon mania in their city.
Like, tourism boards are going to spend tens of millions of dollars to go there.
So you're welcome.
Yeah.
You could do, instead of doing, like I pitched,
an Australian Open as the first, but like International Fight Week and MSG, those are rock.
They live forever in those locations.
Like, I mean, the FedEx isn't technically a major, but the FedEx is always in Atlanta.
You know, Augusta always has the masters.
You could then do the major, like the other majors are, we've got the European major.
So bidding war between France and Paris and London.
Or I guess if somebody else wants to get involved to take the second major is in London.
Maybe Spain wants a piece.
Spank it in there.
You know, you get Australian Abu Dhabi.
Like you can take the just give us four on, like on paper announced bigger events per year instead of like every paper view is big.
That's not true.
Because look at this fucking Salt Lake City call.
That ain't big at all.
Nobody cares.
You can announce a date's a year in advance if you want.
I'm not asking you to care 42 times a year because I know you're not going to.
give me four.
K or four times a year.
And I think people would be okay with that.
I really do.
I went to look at this real quick because I was super curious.
This was the road to UFC 300.
At the apex, UFC fight night,
Rosenstrike versus Gadsiev.
That was March 2nd.
Then we had $2.99, which was an unbelievable card.
Then we went to back to the apex again.
More heavyweighty, heavyweight made of an action, Jed.
Taito Ivasa versus Marchine Tibera.
Then guess where we were the following week?
We were back in the apex.
Amanda Hebas versus Rosenomiunis.
And then we went to Atlantic City.
Aaron Blanchville versus Menon Fior.
And then we went back to the apex.
Although this fight ended up being an absolute slobber knocker.
Brendan Allen versus Chris Curtis, too, was the main event.
That is saying that is terrible.
before heading into UFC 300.
And then we got a week break
and then went back to the apex
with Bataeus Nicolao versus Alex Perez
as a made event before going to UFC.
And we were all okay with it
because we had 300 on the horizon.
And 301 was Pantosia versus Steve Urseg
is the main event.
Dude, it is arbitrary,
arbitrary deadlines,
arbitrary goal posts are like,
part and parcel of the human experience.
Like,
think about how like benching 225 is honestly meaningless it's just two plates on on each side you know
like that's but because like that is a goal it's an arbitrary goal but it didn't like it gets people
to work towards that as opposed to just being like oh i can binge 200 i'm good you know like that's
you have to have these things and we you know we get a sparing one we get a white house card
every now and then.
And we're so
thirsty for
effort from them
that we suckle at it
like it is the
water of life.
Like, oh my God,
you're finally trying.
You are finally trying.
Like, do it four times a year.
That's not even that much trying.
It's really not that much trying.
Four times a year.
And then do whatever else
for the rest of these.
It's easy.
Chase,
between the two of you,
who would be more upset
about the UFC seemingly setting up
Gaetchi versus Iliot,
Jed hates undeserved title shots and rematches.
And Mike loves Armin.
It promise it's me.
It honestly might in my fandom of the sport.
You might be, well, I would be just like, I would just shake my head.
I'm convinced they'll just never go to an armor in a title shot because they know he'll win and they don't want him as champion.
It's crazy.
He's a big star, but he will use that star power to his advantage.
And I think the UFC knows that.
So they're going to do everything in their power to avoid him being champion.
be in. So I kind of get it from their perspective, but it's still real stupid for a sport that says
only the best will fight the best, and that's just not true. But I'm willing to bet that there is
no person on planet Earth that would be more upset about this than you.
It genuinely might break me of the sport. And when Anick said it, my initial reaction has been to,
I hope that he's just, it's not true.
Because if they do it, I don't, I don't know what I'm doing in the sport anymore.
I got on it, like, what is, it's not a sport anymore if they do it.
It just isn't.
There is, just give them the title.
Because very clearly the only reason you're doing this is because you want him to have the belt.
Like if you do this and you let Pereira fight gone again, you just give the guys you want belt.
Just be pro wrestling.
I'm sorry that the WWE owns pro wrestling and you can't be it, but that's all we're doing.
There are just guys you want to have titles.
There's no merit.
there's no who gives a shit anymore if you are doing this the if i was an athlete i and they did this
i would i would i would quit m m i'd be like well there's no there's no point there is no point
because the game is not and i know that this has always been as you know sports entertainment
there's always a piece of this i'm not i'm not saying they have to go full meritocracy
though that would be better than whatever the shit we're going down is right now quite frankly
but like there has to be a baseline level of it or it is society doesn't work without following
like without unwritten rules and everybody following them the sport does not exist if you just
if you just say no we want that dude to have the belt so he has it we're going to give him as
many chances as possible to get it in the most undeserved fashion because like we would rather like
that's that's the outcome we want we on the sport and you can't do it
anything about it. You're right, I can't. But if that's the world we're going to live in,
I will genuinely have to rethink my career because I can't. There is no viable explanation for
doing it from any side of the ball other than this is not the outcome we wanted. And so we're
going to re-roll the dice. We're going to take a mulligan until we get the outcome we wanted.
Okay, you're not playing golf anymore
If you take a mulligan every shot you don't like
You're doing something very different
And I'm not into that
If you had to guess
Is this happening?
I don't think so
You don't think so?
I don't think so
Dana said something the other day
We were talking to Jim Rome yesterday or whatever
About he'd be interested in it
I don't think so
Because I want to believe that we live in a society
And even when
Anick said it, when Anick initially said it, he was pretty clear in couching it as I have,
this isn't me hearing things, you know, not reporting this, but I just think they might go.
And in general, you take some of that with a grain of salt because my broad belief is that when
assets tied to the UFC say something, they've heard something.
There is, they are, they are not ignorant to the world.
But I cannot, I cannot.
I also can't imagine you'd have to pay Justin so much money to take this fight.
Like how?
They would.
What would he?
I mean,
but like he could,
he could demand $100 million.
Like,
why would he ever accept that fight?
I,
unless it is general,
like $50 million to do it.
So I'm going to continue to hope and believe that it won't happen because it's so beyond the pale.
It would be the worst title fight ever.
given, bar none, like the worst title fight ever given.
Shameful shit.
And I'm going to believe that that won't happen.
But I mean this was all sincerity.
If they book it and it comes to pass, I will genuinely have to consider if this, if I want
to go be a lawyer.
Like, I cannot abide it.
I can't.
If, like, if I didn't work in the space, it would be easy.
If they booked it, I'd quit.
I just like, all right, I'm going to dive full into football.
Like, that's fine.
Because this is my career, I will have to, I guess, to think about it.
But, like, it is, I cannot put in, I do not have the appropriate words.
How disappointing, how bad, and how bad shit crazy it is to think about doing this.
I won't rule it out.
Not, this is no inside information at all.
I think if Armand lays waste to Ruffy, like, just smashes him and just finishes him and
in a round or two, like they will have no choice but to give him the shot.
Even if that means Justin retires, he is fighting for the belt in his next fight.
But if Armine goes in there and like 49-46 is him in like a just a forgettable fight,
I think they will absolutely think about running that one back.
It's so dumb.
God, it's so dumb.
But this is, it's about money, man.
That's all they care about is making money and selling tickets.
It doesn't make them any more money.
They make the money they make.
they make $1.1 billion.
This does not move a substantive needle
for them.
Like it is,
I don't travel to events.
I don't interview fighters.
Like that's not something I'm interested in.
They book it, I will have to.
Before I quit the sport, if I end up choosing to do that,
I'll have to be like, hey, explain to me
why Ilya Tuporia deserves this.
And when Dana says, look at all he's accomplished.
He accomplished a fuckload at featherweight,
and he came into lightweight, and he nuked one dude,
and he quit.
He had a no-moss moment by this motherfucker that you are trying to book him in again against.
So, by definition, he does not deserve this in any reasonable phrase.
Also, just so we're aware, it's entirely possible that the same shit happens to him again.
And if it does, you took the 28-year-old future of the sport and broke his ass twice over Justin Gachie.
That is not how you...
No part of this is wise, is smart.
is good.
You are not, show me the,
I need Dana White to show me
on the PNR report.
That's like, if Ilya fights Justin,
we make 30 more million dollars
because I don't buy it.
I simply, he's not like,
frankly, that big a needle mover
and you don't have that many markets
you sell pay-per-views to anymore.
This does not substantively change your ticket price.
If you just do Justin Gachie versus Armin Saurucan,
that is equally as big a stall,
like Armin is as,
big a star from like a broad casual drawing interest to sell tickets as iliet he's not in connor so
what are we doing what are just given the belt give him the belt give him the belt if you want him to
have the belt and do like call this something other than what you're calling it because it ain't
ultimate fighting championship because i saw them fight and one dude literally beat the other man into
quitting on the stool he beat him so bad that he said no moss in his corner threw in the towel
And you're going to run that back when that dude had no title defenses, one win in the weight class?
No, get the fuck out of here.
Be a goddamn adult.
Speaking of adult and speaking of light weights, Saladin Parnash shined in his debut and the media has him ranked number nine.
Where does he go from here?
It won't be Max Hollow.
The media had Dan Hooker at number nine, so they just slaughtered him in.
So I listened to Otno.
Mike, you know, I love you.
Um, I think that is the worst take you've ever had.
Worse than Waley is going to beat Val is that Max Holloway will not fight Salady and
Parnasse.
I think that that's the fight that's going to happen.
You guys all said I was crazy when Max Holloway was going to fight, like Max would fight
Quill and Sal killed.
Like I said they had the same take.
And then he literally came out on his thing and said, look, guys, I'm fighting Connor
McGregor, I'm fighting for the lightweight title or I'm fighting for the welterweight
title. Those are the three options. Nothing else is going to happen. He's not getting the light
or the welterweight and Connor's not till June. He could have to sit out till June. He could
sit out till June. Yeah, he doesn't need to fight. I don't think he's going to sit out till
June. He makes more money probably outside of fighting that he does actually fighting. Yeah, he doesn't
have to fight. Certainly. I don't think he's going to sit out until June. He's Max. Max wants to
fight people. I think he's going to fight Saladin Parnas. I don't think there's any chance that is.
He doesn't even know who Saladin and Parnas is. He doesn't even know who Saladin and Parnass is.
dude.
Yeah, he does he just beat the shit
of Dan Hooker?
He doesn't know who he is.
He doesn't know, Mac.
Mac, he probably saw it.
He breaks them down on his YouTube channel.
Yeah, when he,
like when he's being paid by stake.com
to cover a numbered event,
he's not bringing down Saladin Parnass highlights.
He has no idea who this guy is.
He does not watch fights unless he's paid to do so
or he is fighting on the card.
He doesn't know who Saladin Paras is.
Good time will tell.
I think Max will fight him
because it's Max Holley.
Yeah, he will fight him.
I don't be he's not.
now. He's not going to fight him based on beating Dan Hooker. He's not going to. That fight does nothing for him in his own mind. He thinks he can get Justin Gachie. He knows he can get Conner McGregor. Why would he fight Saladin Parnas and risk those paydays? That's crazy. He wouldn't lose Connor McGregor by fighting Parnas. That won't be a factor. And he's not going to get Justin Gachie. So if he does that, if he thinks that. Justin Gachie says, I want one more fight. It's with Max Holloway. Give it to me.
I want to try to get that loss back.
They will try to make that fight.
That would also be.
But they would do it.
That would at least be better, but it would also be awful.
Yeah.
We're just not going to agree on this one.
Yeah, we're not going to agree on it.
Unless they pay Max, like, this is the same thing where it's like, yeah, dude, he'll fight Oosterna Maga Madoff.
Why?
Why would he fight Usra Nirmagamatov?
Well, if the UFC pays him, he'll fight him.
Well, there's your answer right there, because they're not going to pay him any extra to fight Saladin,
or Usu and Ramagamadav.
or Quill and Sal killed, for that matter.
Max wants big money fights.
Those aren't big money fights to him right now.
They're awesome to us.
I would love to see Saladin Parnasse to fight Max Holloway.
That would bang.
It'd be incredible fight.
That's a must-watch TV.
I would cancel all of my plans to watch that fight.
It's just not going to happen next.
Even Dana was just like, yeah, cool call-out.
Bold by this kid.
I love it.
But he didn't say, like, yeah, I'd love to make that fight.
He was just like, yeah, seems like a stretch.
Exactly. Yeah, seems like a stretch, but I like the gusto.
Like, that was his reaction to it.
So even Dana doesn't even see that as like a true possibility right now.
Dana doesn't know what he and Parnas is.
Let him build a highlight.
Do you think Max doesn't know who Saladin Parnas is?
Dana really doesn't know who Saladin Parnas.
Nalini Parnas.
Yeah, they probably know as equally as much about Saladin Parnas.
Max isn't like because Max doesn't pay attention to the sport around him unless it's like big stars and things that hit his radar.
like if Ali talked shit about him under Islam's Twitter account.
Like he'll know about that because the team probably sends it to him.
But like,
he probably saw the highlight of Partass knocking out Dan Hooker,
but that's probably all he knows about him is they just beat Dan Hooker in his UFC debut.
I think Pornas is getting Holloway or Olivera.
That's my thought.
I don't think he's getting either of those guys.
Olivera would be,
I mean, it all kind of depends.
I don't think they're going to make him get one fight.
I don't think they're going to be like,
okay, you're number nine.
now you fight the number eight dude
when Michael Chandler blew the doors off
Dan Hooker they gave him a title fight
like he's not going to do the title fight but
because they had nobody else and that was a save the day
kind of fight. This is Wang Tong
fighting in Delia Silva.
I think he's getting a big fight and the only big
fight options are
those two so I think he gets one of them.
You know what I'd love?
We kind of would be good. Like why can't we just do that?
Because he fought in Paris
against the guy everyone.
He fought it. He beat a dude who was a minus seven
hundred favor over in his own country.
I was going to fight back in the rankings.
That's not back in the rankings though.
Moikano's ranked seven right now in the in the meta rankings.
In the meta rankings, he's ranked seven.
Why?
Are you kidding me?
I said Ruffy after he loses to Armin.
Rupi's ranked two spots above him in the media ranking.
That one is better.
Like that's also acceptable that that would be fine.
Yeah, that's, I think that's fine.
Like that's a great fight.
Jesus.
Why is Moyconon ranked seven?
Yeah, dude.
Have you seen the rankings?
Good God.
The media rankings have some issues, but they're at least better in this regard.
Do the meta rankings have Pavel Andruska ranked number eight?
That was really funny.
That was really funny.
That one's so bad that it's funny, though.
Like, if you're going to be bad, it'd be funny.
Fort Emanuel Wood.
I mean, look, that can look sick.
Did you look like the eighth best beta featherway of the world?
Maybe not the eighth.
We look really good.
Yeah, I
I would
They won't do this
And I actually think they shouldn't do this
For similar reasons they shouldn't book Ilya versus
Justin again
I would really love to watch Ilya
To Porio fight Salady and Parnasse
That would that would scratch me right where I edge
France versus Spain let's go
That's a great fight too
That is a fight that would feed
me
A lot I'd be really happy with that
so yeah you should just book illy versus patty this is not hard uh you do that and um armin should he
the winner of ruffie arman takes on gaichi this is very easy and the loser against part ass boom
nailed it and what are we doing with charles in this instance he's going to fight deagle
lopez for the bmph oh yeah correct look there we've solved it we've nailed it so i was not
wrong about any of this i mean i i i think it's fine i still think they're going to do max parnass like
That's, that is my belief.
I will truly, I will come on this program and be truly stunned.
We got to put the hand up sometimes.
I will shave my beard to a baby face if they book that fight next.
And not I'm not talking about.
They book him.
Clip it, send it to Dana.
And this is not count if they do Max Hall.
If they're like, Max Holloway is fighting Armand Syrucian.
And then a week before the fight, Armans hurt, Parnass is in.
If this is like, Dana goes on Instagram and says, hey guys.
we get you.
Mattis's Square Garden,
Max Holloway versus Saladin Parnais,
I will come on here and shave the beard.
I haven't done it in like three years,
so I'll do it.
Stakes have been laid.
Yep.
Question for Jed mainly,
because I know Mike's answer,
is Ruffy being overlooked.
Armid isn't the same style of pressure
and grappling as BSD
and hasn't fought anyone as dangerous
as Ruffy on the feet.
I haven't done a full dive into this one.
my answer is a little bit yes
but not enough to matter if that makes sense
the odds are quite long on this fight
I'm not looking at them
but I think Armand's like a five to one favorite
or something in that neighborhood
and while it's easy to see it
Armand shoots a take down grapples
we just saw BSD
I think Rufi has gotten a little bit better
in the half a year,
year since that fight happened.
I don't remember how long ago it was,
eight months.
And I do think that,
while he does not pose the grappling threat,
obviously that Charles Olivera poses,
Armin had a hard time,
just simply with like,
Oliverer's really big,
and Ruffy's really big,
and Armin is not,
he is very stout,
but he is short in stature.
And I think that could be troubling for him.
I wish this was five rounds.
I don't know.
It's not five rounds?
I assumed that it since it's co-main at three.
I thought it was five.
I didn't look at it.
I just assumed since it's not the main event, it's three.
Let's look.
I think they made it a five rounder.
It could be wrong.
But I'm pretty sure.
It's five.
It is a five round.
It is five.
I do think five rounds probably favors almond.
I think this is probably closer than Armine being a 5-to-1 favorite.
He's minus 390 right now.
Oh, okay, that number's a little better.
That feels more like, you know, 3-1, 4-1-1 favorite.
Feels a little bit better.
I do stylistically, Armine and I think is advantaged here,
but I think Riffie can make this challenging on him.
And Ruffy is really, really dynamic on the feet,
and that is a big part.
Like that's, you know,
Ian Gary learned the,
I don't know if you learned the lesson,
but the lesson you can take
from watching Ian Gary fight is the Makachev
is it is not just the ability
to nullify your opponents that wins fights.
You can nullify their offense,
but you have to have offense of your own,
and it's better if the offense of your own is dynamic.
And so,
Ravi, the first phase of engagement
for Ruffy is stopping Armin from doing what he wants to do.
And the second is knocking him the hell out.
He can do the second.
The first is the question.
So it's a great fight.
It's a fight I hadn't really considered.
I'm very interested in it.
I'm picking Armin, but I don't think this is a walk.
I think this is a hard fight for him.
I mean, could, is there a world where Armin tries to do too much on the feet and gets
caught?
It's possible.
I think the most undervalued part of this entire fight is that
and I've seen this a lot that people think Armand has like no chance on the fee with Ruffi
I totally disagree with that absolutely unequivocally disagree with that
he may not have the size and the stature and the overall like knockout pop
that Ruffy has like that one hit or quitter.
Ask big giant Joel Alvarez how hard Armin Sauru Kins
because he beat the shit out of it.
of the boogeyman Joel Alvarez.
This is pre-welterweight, Joel Alvarez.
He beat up.
A boy like that.
He beat the breaks off him,
and most of it was on the feet.
So, dude can hammer, man.
I'm looking forward to it,
but I think Armand's going to be smart.
I think he's just going to tackle him.
And the moment that happens,
Rufi is in a world of trouble.
So we'll see.
I will say that statistically,
Armand Surukin's only losses,
have come when he's gotten taken down a bunch.
Is it?
He has two losses.
He gave up 10 takedowns in those two fights.
Yeah.
I think Armand's going to try to tackle him a whole bunch.
Mike,
what are you going to apologize for?
That is something I don't have to apologize for
because while met on this,
it's got to be a bit.
Thank you so much.
I believe it's a bit.
Thank you.
Because if there was one person who was opo of that take,
in this space, it was me.
I just never bought it.
And much like I didn't believe A.J. McKee was the best featherweight in the world or really towards it.
Well, he just got, he got dusted today.
We'll never know.
We'll never know.
We'll never know.
They didn't fight, so we'll never know.
That's true.
I only woke up in time to, I set an alarm so I would see the A.J. McKee fight at Super Bowl.
Yeah, he lost bad.
He got 30, he got 30, 20.
seven.
Hmm.
That's a,
the rough run.
The rough run continues.
Yep.
So,
you look.
Thought a good dude.
I mean,
look.
In Saldia,
he's the,
he's the truth and the glory.
He's very good.
And apparently,
uh,
he has signed a multi-year deal with,
uh,
with MVP,
multi-year deal.
Uh,
two-year deal,
yeah.
Yeah.
So he will,
uh,
he will be with MVP,
M.
Great pick up.
Yeah,
um,
it's another,
one of those things that's kind of a bummer because this is smart,
this is a smart business move by MVP,
just trying to like steal this dude.
But the problem is,
I mean, how old is he,
how much, is 20, oh, he's only 25.
I think he's, he's got plenty of time.
So he'll go over there and go three and no,
four and oh, maybe,
make lots of money,
beat nobody.
And then he'll come over to the UFC when he's 27,
because they ain't keeping him full time.
Like he'll, he'll do one little run there.
He'll win all of his fights, have four title defenses,
and maybe fight for the lightweight bell when Usman leaves.
Or he won't because by then he will have seen the UFC give Ilya
five lightweight title shots and say,
it doesn't matter if I come to this to the UFC.
If they decide they don't like me,
then I'll never get to fight for a belt.
Armin is currently on a 36-fight win streak and is not challenged for title yet.
Yeah, great pick up.
I got to tell you, I hate that this sport makes me have to respect Jake Paul.
Because, like, I don't, I wish I didn't know about Jake Paul, quite frankly.
But instead, I'm just like, and I still dislike him as a person.
I think he's probably not a good one.
But he's unequally good for combat sports.
He has done very extremely positive things.
And this is, you know, he's not the brains behind this, I'm sure.
but adding his juice to get MVPFL to do stuff like this,
that's good.
That's good for the sport.
Yeah.
I hate it.
I hate that I have to praise Jake Paul.
Yep.
Well done.
Well done to the squad.
Guys very good.
I mean, I got to tell you, I was really, that fight was just super fun.
Other than it being in a ring, and I know EKD will fistfight me over this.
MMA is contested in cages, not in.
rings because the ring is stupid.
It's not a, it's not a space for grappling.
It just is not.
Especially grappling with strikes.
Be a little bit easier to pull off if like this were, you know,
jujitsu or whatever, but like it is,
it bothers me every time AJ's head like got out the ropes and Sajelav's trying
to punch him and they have to stop the action and wiggle him back in.
It's like, you know, or you just have a cage.
This isn't a problem.
This is not a problem.
AJ's like at one point was trying to hit,
like a, I think it was a
Haragoshi. I'm not 100%
sure where his leg was. He's trying
to hit like a toss, but he couldn't
because it was like just going through the ropes.
It's like, I,
MMA is a sport contestant in a cage because you need that
because of the grappling and striking aspects
together. But
other than that, I just, it was
a wonderful fight to watch. AJ McKiss
still very good. This was not a
situation where AJ lost because he's not
good. He didn't gas a little quicker than
I thought he would. But,
But, like, they just, that was just a really fun, scrambly fight.
Sadja Liev did not, like, he had the run of play, but he was not in total control the whole fight.
Also, that dude is hella strong.
Like, he switched to a high crotch when AJ had, like, a really deep underhook and was blocking the double.
And, like, as he was switching, I was like, there's no chance he finished.
like AJ's in good posture, good position with the underhooks.
I was like he can't.
And he just like picked him up like he was a child.
Like, oh, never mind.
Whoops, the daisies.
I was like, holy shit.
So Sond's a lot is really good.
But yeah, we've known that Risen has some very good fighters on hand.
Tom, not everybody has to fight in the UFC.
That's very true.
That's very true.
But the reason why people want to see you guys like him fighting the UFC is because
you'll never know how good he actually is unless he fights UFC fighters.
because whether you want to hear there or not,
the best fighters in every division are in the UFC.
I see people out there being like,
hey, if this dude fights Alexander Volcanowski right now,
who would win.
I'm like, not in the UFC.
And he might be the best heavyweight.
He might be.
Would you pick him against Tom?
He never lost.
Would you pick him against Tom Aspenall right now?
I think I would pick him against Tom.
I wouldn't.
I would not like bet.
Would you pick him against Josh Hokit?
Would you pick him against?
You would?
Okay.
I mean, I wouldn't feel like
is insanely confident in these picks.
But like,
I think in a straight fight,
I'm picking him over any heavyweight in the world right now.
Okay.
I just haven't seen enough to make me feel that way.
Like beating Henan,
Faheta.
I mean,
that's why I don't have the confidence.
He has not been super active.
But like,
if I'm going off of what he was when he left the UFC,
I'm like,
Tom,
like,
I wish we got to see it,
obviously.
But like,
Tom puts his chin right in the
all the time and that's just the worst idea possible against a man like Francis and Goddou.
So I'd love to see it, but we never will. But yeah.
Yeah. But maybe you got Francis, but that's heavy. I mean, but maybe not.
Outside of that, I don't, yeah, outside of that, you don't really have.
West fires in the world are really, I see because they're the ones consistently beating the best
opposition time over time. And we can have the most confident claim that they're the best in the world.
They have most of the best talent.
100%.
True dad.
Oh, this is good.
MVP making a move is very good.
Would you pick G.
Over Usman?
Yes.
Ooh, I am not certain.
I think I'd pick H.
I think I'd pick Usman.
I don't know.
I mean, again, I wouldn't feel super confident in it, but like.
I don't know.
Watching the success,
watching the success Paul Hughes at against Usman,
not once but twice,
gives me a lot of confidence in Justin Gich.
Like a lot of confidence,
because Justin Gachi is a better fighter.
than Paul Hughes. Certainly
a better striker. Certainly a better
striker than Paul Hughes.
You don't know that.
You know what? Let's book Justin Gathe
versus Paul Hughes. Let's do that.
That is better than me that.
Listen, I like Paul Hughes. But again, like
big news.
All I'm just telling
the faithful here
is just let's
relax a little bit. Let's temper our expectations.
Just because Kamar Uspin defended his belt a few times,
does not make him the welterweight goat,
just because Israel,
Azania defended Ed,
does not make him the middleweight goat.
Like,
all of these things,
like,
we just got to relax a little bit.
Like,
let time tell before we start booking
Zadjuliav versus Alexander Volkinovsky.
Come on now.
Let's chill out a little bit.
Who do you have ranked higher
in your sort of all-time fighter rankings?
Umarro or Izzy?
Ooh.
I've been thinking about this one a lot because I...
Oh, that's good.
I don't want to tell you my thoughts
because it gives away my answer.
it's probably easy
but it's close
just because of the variety of
opponent he fought
marrying his run
I think he's
I think tomorrow yeah
I think he's very superior
Kamar just I mean
Kamar's title defense run is just
when you look at it
it just doesn't age
terrifically well
it's awful
it's
it's super bad
it is aged
incredible
even in real time
it wasn't amazing
and it is age like milk
it is tough.
Yeah, I think it's easy.
I genuinely do not believe
Camarley spends the second greatest welter at a whole time.
I think that still goes to Matt Hughes.
Is he third?
Would you put him?
I think he's pretty third.
I think he's pretty third.
Though I'm open to a conversation
about Robbie Lawler.
I don't, I think he's probably gets it.
But like, I'm,
Robbie had like a real welterweight title run
and also just like, you know,
was a great welterweight title run.
weight for 20 some odd years.
I'm so open to an idea,
like a discussion about it,
but I think Usman's clearly number three.
But like I think Izzy's pretty obviously
the second greatest middleweight of all time.
At the stage of things, you know,
like things can always change rapidly in the sport.
And he beat a bunch of different opponents
and beat them all and some of them very,
like beating Robert Whitaker is better than any title fight win
that Usman has.
It's just better.
Been twice.
Um, you know, Usman's relative comparison is Colby, which is not bad.
Those are his best wins, but that's not as good as beating Robert Whitaker.
You know, like Paulo Costa, it's a good win.
And these aren't fun fights, but Joel Romero's very good win.
Like, yeah, so I have Izzy over him.
I think Izzy has a legitimate case to be one of the 10 greatest fighters of all time.
I'm not sure he's in it, but I think he has a case.
Yeah, I think it's a great career.
And people are going to forget that because he continues to fight.
And in the same way that, like, people sort of forget that about Anderson at times.
It's like he lost eight in a row.
Like, BJ's career has been entirely reconed because he lost a million in a row.
Like, Izzy's going to do that to himself because he keeps fighting.
He's going to keep losing.
It's Izzy just because his fights were fun to watch.
I bet on many post shows, say, with people saying,
there are a lot of fights he had that were not very fun to watch.
He had a lot of fights that were not fun to watch.
And as you know, Usman also had a few that weren't fun, but, yeah, no, it's a...
Go rewatch some of them fights, my man.
Easy right.
True.
You're right.
The best Adam Wade is on the UFC.
Also, they don't have...
Although Loma would be a damn good Adam weight.
Let's just throw that out of there.
Yeah, but CK is the best.
Sure.
They also don't have Women's 145, though they do have a man in Nunes,
has still on roster, so I guess they do have the best featherweight.
But like, you know.
Amazon is also a legit former Belator champion will probably be champion.
I'm not willing to say probably will be champion.
I mean, again, guys.
He lost to Jason Jackson.
Who's good?
No, no, no, no, no.
He didn't lose to Jason Jackson.
He got the doors blown off him by Jason Jackson.
So, let's all, like, again, let's relax a little bit.
Who is Amazon beat in the,
UFC, he beat Neil Magny, which is a fine
win, and then he beat Joel Alvarez,
which is not aged very well.
Joel at Walterway is just not the same.
Yeah, it's just,
it's, can we,
can we see what he does against, like, better competition?
Like, he fought Jason Jackson
not that long ago and got obliterated.
That fight was not competitive for a moment.
He got the doors blown off of him.
Like, let's all relax a little bit.
Before we started, we start crowning
these guys champions,
because they beat Joel Alvarez, who went up to Welterweight.
He's good, and I want to see him fight.
That's why I said, like, I'm still getting roasted for the,
dude, just have Amazon fight Jeremiah Wells.
Like, Jeremiah gets to fight a rank dude,
and Amazon gets to fight somebody.
There you go.
Just make that fight.
Who cares?
Chef Nerdman, could beating Dan be fools gold?
Look at Chandler.
No, because
Here, you're about to hear me do something that is rarity.
You're going to put over the UFC, aren't you?
No, no, no.
I'm going to go to bat for Michael Chandler.
Because here's the thing.
Let's actually look at what you mean when you say this.
He comes in and he blows the doors off Dan Hooker.
Then he challenges for the title against, at the time it was not.
It was obviously not like a valid title fight, but it was the one they gave.
He was moments away from becoming the lightweight champion in the world.
Like he was extremely close to beating Charles Oliver.
He did not.
He lost.
Okay.
Had a fight of the year with Justin Gagee following that.
Justin Gage is the current lightweight champion of the world.
He punted Tony Ferguson out of relevancy.
Okay.
lost another great fight with Dustin Porre.
Dustin Poiré, after that, went to challenge for the title, you know?
Then lost to Charles Olavera.
Again, maybe next in line to challenge for the title.
So beating Dan Hooker just put him in line to have incredibly difficult fights.
And then he loses the Patty Pimble and Marisa Roofie,
who are both, you know, top-level lightweights.
But at that point, that also came after a,
two-year exit to wait for Connor McGregor.
Like, you know, it was just four years.
He was old when he joined, and he spent four years fighting the best guys alive or not
fighting.
So I don't think that was fools gold in that, like, this dude was two punches away
from, you know, being a lightweight champion.
I don't like Michael Chandler.
I've made that very clear of my time here in him and me fighting.
But I'm, you know, I'm willing to respect his quality.
as a fighter, even though he sucks.
You just love people with multiple catchphrases.
If Saladin Paranhas with 36, I would say, yes, this could be Fools Gold.
Because he does not have a huge window of time.
He's 28.
If he spends the next four years fighting the best guys in the world, he's still not going
to be past his prime.
So, no, I don't think so.
A couple last ones.
Ian calling on Morales is funny to me, says RS 40.
why?
I actually think that's what he should be doing.
I think every welterweight on Earth should be calling for that fight,
because they're not all going to get it,
but at least they can say,
oh, no one's called on morale, but he is, and that's kind of cool.
I also think he can win that fight, so I think it's just a good,
and he's right, if he does win, he's right back in the mix, so I think it's smart.
Mike and Jed, do you know what the longest amount of time
a contender series alumni has taken to debut.
Lewis Lee Scott from 2025 still hasn't made his debut.
He didn't miss Wade, but it got me thinking about this.
I don't know.
No clue.
Oh, I mean, it's got to be that dude who just fought the other week.
Because he bombed a drug test.
And then they kept him anyway.
And then he fought like a million years after the fact.
Let me see if I can remember.
I'm going to look through cards and try to remember who the hell it was.
Somebody in the chat will know who I'm talking about.
So Grant,
Grant Dawson
also dealt with something similar.
He got his contract,
August 2017,
didn't debut until March 2019.
He had a,
he had a suspension.
That's a really long time.
Yeah,
it was almost two years.
He had a suspension as well.
That got cleared,
that got cleared up,
I'm pretty sure.
But he was out for a while.
I mean, that's a very long time.
So fair.
Who the hell was it that got popped off of Contender Series and then was out?
He felt like not that long ago.
I cannot for the life of me to remember, though.
But yeah, you know, I didn't even know who you're talking about in this one,
but it's weird when they do that because it makes more sense to me
the contenders series guys fight like next month,
but sometimes you get signed and you don't fight forever.
And it's just like, okay,
so we just added a person to the mix that's not necessary to be here.
All right.
Yeah, the Dawson was weird now that I'm catching up on it.
Dossel was provisionally suspended after an out-of-competition failure
scratches UFC debut.
He was then cut by the promotion,
but chose to appeal a two-year suspension from Usada.
After an extended deliberation,
USADA reversed course and dropped its case against the fighter,
citing new research into the long-term metabolite.
M3.
Dawson then inked a new contract with the UFC and went on to rack up back-to-back
wins and fights against Julian Arosa and Michael Trezano.
So yeah, that was a long one, man.
That was a long one.
I mean, yeah, that's probably right up there.
Yeah.
If it ain't, it's in the running.
RS40, what are your expectations for Roberto Soldich's UFC debut and after it?
I have none at this point for him.
I would, we're past the sell-by-date for Soldich.
he can still be a good player
I'm looking up how old he is right now
I think he's old
oh he's only 31 I was gonna say he's 30
I thought he was like 31 or 32
I thought he was older than that
I'm still gonna temper them
basically because his run in one was just such a catastrophe
yeah
with the like you know
he had he had the loss
he had no contest I don't remember who he beat in one
he beat somebody
but it was just like
it was one of those things that very early on
became evident like
you signed with the promotion that doesn't hold fights
that was a bad call for where you're at in your career Roberto
and they he fought three times in four years
or whatever this shit it was
and it just wasn't
like he would have been substantially better off
sticking around KSW
and doing that and if he had
and he'd been the middleweight champ
for this period of time I'd be
stoked. I'd be super pumped like hell yeah.
Like this is, you know, next DDP.
I'm pretty tempered because of the
4A into one, but he's younger than I thought.
I thought he was like 34.
Only being 31,
he's still got tread left
on the tires.
So yeah, I'll
go ahead. Do we know what weight class he's going to compete in?
He's going to be a weight? Yeah, he's fighting
at three, Walterweight. He's fighting Chaos
Williams at 332.
Oh, that's significantly better.
I don't, because I don't think he's a middleweight.
I mean, I know he's two-division champion or whatever.
But, Mike, was he you and I?
No, it was me and AK that discussed this.
Because Dan Hooker was attempting to do something impressive
by being the first man to defeat two double champions from KSW.
He obviously failed in Saladin Parnas,
but maybe it's time for Dan Hooker to move up to 170,
and he can take on Hurt and Solditch to take on
another two division champion.
And then when that's all said and done,
Mamid Kaladov, baby.
Let's go middleweight Dan Hooker.
He's due.
He's so due to do this.
Love this.
Yeah, I like him.
Look, he made a bag,
or he thought he was making a bag,
going to one.
From what I understood during this whole free agency,
everyone's like, yeah, he's going to the UFC.
I'm like, hey, don't think he is.
the first free agency
because from what I
understood and I reported
this the money KSW
was offering him
to stay there was
I assume like it was holy shit money
it was like
seven figures of fight kind of money
he should have
so my whole take and my prediction was like
if he signs anywhere else then he is getting paid
more than a million dollars a fight
and maybe that's a one offered him at the time
something around there.
And I don't know how that contract work.
I don't know if it was per fight or per year.
I assume it would be per fight.
So he kind of lost out on a bunch.
I didn't think UFC at any shot at signing him
just because of how much money KSW was offering him at the time.
But now, like, yeah, he's just kind of in a position
where it was just like, yeah, man.
And even, I think he did an interview with Ariel.
And I was told this before as well.
He ain't making anywhere near what he was making before.
But that's okay.
he's got a decent offer he's happy with it and and there you go i don't know my expect like i don't look at him
as a guy who's going to like fight for a belt or anything but he's going to be super fun a super fun addition
to a to a division that continues to get interesting and there's some really interesting fights for him
so yeah i'm glad he's there wish it happened two years ago but there you go it'll be a good time
to see him there uh there's one thing i wanted to bring up oh here we go uh we go uh we go uh we
guys be covering Scott Coker's announcement this coming Monday? Yes, I will be there. I will be in
Manhattan for all of it. I got a little lay of the land of what this all is. It looks and sounds
very interesting. I'm told that whatever they're fighting in, I wasn't told exactly what it is.
contraption that they will be having their fights in
will be in this room, so we'll be able to see it.
And then Scott Coker's going to make his announcement

and then there'll be some interview opportunities.

you guys are going to have your voices heard like never before within SB Nation.
MMA boxing, not me, but you pro wrestling, Mike.
It's a community-based app.
It's all about community with the new SB Nation app.
It's so easy to use.
And it can keep, obviously, Combat Sports fans.
connected to their favorite teams
and all of sports too across the board
so I can keep up with the Red Sox, the Patriots, and the Bruins
all on my phone and it's so simple to use.
Yeah, like you mentioned those teams,
but there's so much more

but I get to follow the NFL,
all the other sport, F1,
the various sports that I care about outside of combat sports.
